One of the most shocking games Ihave seen in fifteen years of covering the

(01:47):
San Diego Soncers almost shot out ontheir home floor. We will break down
the breakdowns in a five to oneloss to the cheap Wah Wow Savage.
But the weekend was only half bad. Hey, turn it around. We
got something to like as well,a win, a six or five win

(02:07):
in Tacoma. We will talk tothe star of Saturday night's victory, Xavier
Snare Williams. That'll be coming upat the bottom of the hour. Is
Monterey gonna go twenty four to zero? Is Harrisburg gonna go oh to twenty
four? We're gonna reset the MAASLtier list, the Exclusive Soccers Overtime m

(04:25):
of things that you'll hear me saya lot over various sports broadcasts or iterations
of things. One of the thingsthat you'll hear me say quite often is
there are levels. There are levelsto things. There are levels to every
sport. You see. You canwatch any one team play another team and

(04:46):
see that team come out victorious andsay, well, that must be the
best team in the sport. Butthere are always levels to this. There's
always a higher level, there's alwaysa lower level, there's always something else
to aspire to. I truly thesoccers saw a higher level competition on Sunday
than they've seen all season long.Absolutely, the Savage came in and they

(05:11):
picked up almost immediately where they leftoff last year. And really the silence
was very comparable around the arena attimes as it was after La Roca's game
winning goal last season. And Imean, I've never been a part of
a broadcast that was on that sideof things, as far as you know,

(05:33):
such a departure from what we're usedto seeing, right, I mean
I don't necessarily want to liken itto that, but we all saw the
seven to one destruction of Brazil byGermany, and you just look at those
games and you think, well, that's not supposed to happen. Wait,
it's just it's keep getting worse, and it just keeps mounting and mounting and
mounting. And as the time rolledin and it looked like there might be

(05:56):
a blank of donut on the SanDiego Soccer side, I don't know.
It was a very interesting kind ofout of body experience at times, but
I don't want to do that again. That didn't feel good. I'm not
gonna lie. It did not feelgood. But definitely there are levels,
and you know, Chihuahua definitely broughtit up that match on that particular day,
any given day, and that iswhy I'm glad that there's parody and

(06:19):
that there's this competition and maybe storylinescoming out, you know, Chihuahua San
Diego like yes, and there's beengood games and now Chihuahua has to say
they have the w in the wincolumn. First time Chihuahua has won in
the regular season against the San DiegoSoccers. First time they've won a regulation
match in San Diego of any length, you know, in terms of playoff

(06:44):
four regular season, I should say, but of a regulation match. They've
of course beaten them in the minigame last year and a knockout game,
and really, you know, justa lot of things changed. A sixteen
match regular season winning streak ended,a twenty five match regular season home winning
streak ended. All those things cameto an end. That all happened on

(07:05):
Sunday. This is our recap segment. Let's say we started on a brighter
note. Let's go chronologically. Let'stalk about Saturday. First. I like
that the soccers and the Tacoma Starsand soccers tried to thread the needle this
weekend, Tony. They did nottravel Craig Childs up to Tacoma. They

(07:28):
rested four regulars who were either sickor battling some minor injuries in Lao Pardo
Serda, Mitchell Cardiness. Soccer's concedevery early two minutes five seconds into the
match, Rafael Cox just to counterattackdown the floor. That really didn't get
settled for one to nothing. Buthere's the funny thing. Tacoma had made

(07:49):
a tactical decision of their own Tony. They flew out to Empire a day
early, Chris Toath, Jamail JuiceCox, Michael Ramos, Alessandro Canale,
four of their absolute best players, kind of assuming that they would lose to
a full strength San Diego team andwanting to play against Empire, the team

(08:13):
that they need to beat more atfull strength. And I just find it
very interesting in that if they haddecided to go full squad on Saturday,
they would have had a real advantageover San Diego. Yeah. No,
it's a definitely like twenty foot twentythousand foot view of what the season is
on itself, and the strategy thereis sound in itself, because yeah,

(08:35):
that's good thinking on them that theymight lose this match and they'll have to
look at where they can pick uppoints down the line. But that's something
to consider as far as how thisgame actually went. If it was a
full strength to come with stars,I don't know, like this might have
been a double negative of a weekendthat we saw from San Diego soccer side.

(08:58):
Well, this was certainly a gamethat was a contest all the way
to the final whistle. We're insecond quarter in our replay highlight now if
you are watching US live on Twitchor watching the video replay on YouTube to
see the blue card called and apenalty kick called against Xavier Sneer Williams for
tackling a player in the box.And that's Nick Pereira against Lenny Islas,
making his ma ASL debut, afour second debut. Able to stand on

(09:22):
the goal line and see Nick Pereirascore. Welcome back to the bench,
Lenny Isslass, but welcome into thescoreesheet of the Major Arena Soccer League.
Facing Nick Pereira in a penalty kick. That doesn't seem like my favorite way
to make a debut. Yeah no, that's just like you drew it up
right as a kid growing up,wanting to don the San Diego Soccer shirt.
Four seconds through a penalty against theMVP current Rainey defending MVP three to

(09:43):
two on Je Salazar's first MAASL goal, first shift in maybe his second shift
total, and he gets a headeroff of the nice coast shot that was
saved by Luis Peretta, the Tacomabackup keeper. Sound just like the futsal
game, just into the match, onto the score sheet and a very outdoorsy

(10:05):
type of header there Tony, notjust straight with the forehead into the keeper,
but little nod to the side tobring it in. Yeah. No,
that's the strategy you want, right, That's how you confuse the keeper.
The bounce of the ground and theheader is perfectly located. Not too
much power to get it off target, but very well done there by the
youngster. A lot of different protagonistshere for the Soccers who played well as

(10:28):
a team four to two. Towardsthe end of the second quarter. One
Gonzalez with the steal and the twov one well exec I mean, honestly
could have been a little better executed. I think the shot was probably the
right play for one Gonzalez there, but Tavoy doesn't make a meal out of
it. He goes ahead and getsa snack, puts one into the net
for four to two. Really wasstarting to look like it was going to

(10:52):
be one of those more routine Soccersvictories. But then right here, guerro
Pino decides to and I a goalwith the old chicken wing. And that's
fine, but here comes the secondpenalty kick of the quarter for the Tacoma
start. I mean, yeah, you know, lying like the warrior he

(11:15):
is, but not not in thatway, man, so Perera boop okay,
four to three, nice way tostat the had the stats of the
MVP. Penalty kicks are very nicein indoor soccer. And four to three
score and then you get into aswe see late in the second quarter here

(11:37):
a guy knocked down and an injuryand Drew ruggles. Oh yeah, well
it's all what thin ou chees? No big deal? Uh, soccer still
in attack, great save, LuisBiretta. Luce Speretta played very well in
this match in his first game. Both guys in their first games of the
year, Barretta and Xavier Snare Williams. I thought both keepers played well.

(12:01):
You'll hear from Xavier a little bitlater in the show. We had to
pretape that interview today, but headmitted to you know, those nerves early
in the game. There's one thatactually he was able to guide down off
of that near wall. At firstthe folks on the broadcast thought that that
was a misplay. It was not. But now we're into the third quarter
and no scoring in the third quarterfor the San Diego Soccers. Nice layoff

(12:24):
by Pereira. They get the ballinside. Nice little one to two deflection
goal, centering pass hockey style onetimer goal there for four to four.
But just very interesting to look backand recognize, Tony that last weekend the
Soccers were shut out in both firstquarters and shut out in both third quarters
of their matches, and that issomething you would never expect to see.

(12:48):
Yeah, and altogether, you know, they always play a defensive style where
they're not necessarily scoring bunches in thosefirst quarters, but they will get one
or two back pouncing on the errorsat the US team does. That's not
what we've been seeing. And youknow, even if you do play great
defense, that doesn't mean that youdon't be as productive offensively because then when

(13:09):
you have an issue. Matt Brame, speaking of issues, Matt bram and
Drew Ruggles have issues. These guyshave beef. This is the second time
in the last two matches that we'veseen these guys face to face and head
to head. And I mean,that's a bad foul. That's a really
bad foul right there by Matt Brame. And that's Drew Ruggles sticking up for
his teammates. So you're not gonnahear me complain about that one bit,

(13:30):
not at all. But soccers don'tscore on the power play. Sanego's power
play ineffective all weekend long. Ofcourse, there were no penalties on Sunday.
Fourth quarter, it became Xavier SnaireWilliams time to shine. Fat's in
the fire for to four match andx starts kind of heating up. Barretta
kept pace as well to keep thisgame at four to four, and then

(13:52):
eventually you're gonna get to Nick Pereraand just fake, fake, fake role
role roll Nick Perera. He generates, yes, now standing offensive player,
classic player where you know exactly whathe's gonna do the time, you know
it's gonna go ahead and go tohis right for third foot and boom always
gets you at the end. Agreat player, and that was against Christian

(14:15):
Gudierrez. That wasn't against a slouchtype defender. Here's the play of the
game, Xavier Snare Williams out ofhis net, getting the ball to Gabriel
Costa, Gobi Costa Costa, lettingthe ball do the work, getting that
goal, tying things up five tofive. Finally, the soccer score in
the second half, their first goalof the second half, and I think

(14:37):
it really you can see how excitedXavier was coming down recognizing not only did
they tie it, but he gotthe assist on this. If it was
a taller player, it would havegone off the back of his head,
a good jump at gobby goal, just let it sail over his frame for
five to five. Still chances XavierSnare Williams would be tested as the match

(14:58):
continues. That was a great, excellent defensive play by Tavoyd Morgan though,
yeah, no, excellent tracking downall the way to the defensive side of
things. Originally called a foul challengedimmediately and you know, very very very
good defending there, like that's pictureperfect, get all ball first, neutralize

(15:18):
any type of counter attack there, fantastic, Stunningly this was called a blue
card, yes on ta Voyd Morganand the soccers in a five to five
game had to blow their challenge onjust a really badly missed call, to
be honest with you, and youknow, tough tough there, and of
course we have tons of respect forRyan Sigach, but the last time we

(15:41):
saw those guys there were some controversyas well. There's Xavier with his save
of the game. Nick Pereira, point blank, you start with the bar
down here. That's great news forSan Diego. But then Pereira is just
tracking that thing down and puts itinto the basket of Xavier, but he
got big. Now we get tothe game winner, it's getting the ball
loose. It's the two v oneand how about a right foot or Brandon

(16:03):
Niscoto who says he can only scorewith the left. Juras puts it in
on the far post two thirty threeto play for six' five San Diego.
Huge response by a team. Thisis what you have come to expect
over the years from the Soccers, challenged on the road, challenged by a
team that has been the better ofthem for a good period of time,

(16:26):
and finding that clutch play, findingthe clutch gene somewhere within them. There's
another big save by Xavier down thestretch, and despite the best efforts of
a sixth attacker, the Soccers defenseis able to swarm to deny Tacoma any
decent final chance, and the Soccerspull out a six to five victory.
So you know, was it aclassical win for San Diego? It was

(16:49):
not. I don't think the Soccersplayed particularly well on Saturday night Tony,
but on that night I was willingto say, you have no Quick Childs,
which is your offensive cap and youhave no Sasar Serta, who is
your defensive captain. You have noLao who is your organizer as an offense,
he is the number one midfielder forthis team. No Mitchell. You

(17:12):
know, you're missing a lot ofbut especially offensively, you're missing a lot
of firepower, creativity with Mitchell andSerta, you're missing, you know,
kind of your two of your topthree defenders overall. So with all of
that on the board, never mindthe fact that the Soccers were supposed to
fly out of Lindberg Field at twelveo'clock on Friday and they wound up leaving

(17:33):
after eight pm. I mean,I don't know if you've ever been stuck
at the airport for ten hours, but you don't feel good the next day,
Like it's not a good feeling.And I think that honestly had a
knock on effect for the entire weekend. But it was a nasty, nasty
weekend of travel for San Diego.Friday flight delayed over eight hours. Get

(17:55):
into Tacoma close to midnight, youknow, into their rooms around one am
on Saturday morning. Play the matchseven pm Saturday. Most people don't know
this, but on the way backfrom Assesso Show War Center in Kent to
the team Hotel Soccer's Paul Savage getsa call from the airline that their plane

(18:18):
was canceled. Or Sunday morning, the team had a flight for nine am
out of SeaTac to get back toSan Diego, and the flight was canceled.
And for about three hours Paul andhis assistant and coaches were calling around
trying to find flights, trying tofind even individual flights for players to start

(18:42):
leaving one and two at a timeon Sunday morning to get out and to
get to San Diego. And thenat midnight they got a call back from
either the airline or the travel agent, I can't say exactly as to who,
saying, oh, they found anotherplane for your flight. They answered
a different flight that had fewer passengers, and they've been able to find a

(19:03):
plane for your flight, so you'reback on for nine am. And then
when the team got to the airlineto the terminal, the plane wasn't there,
and the plane wasn't there at nineam, and the plane didn't show
up till about nine to fifteen am, and then they finally took off around
nine to forty five, closer toten on match day on Sunday, got

(19:29):
down to San Diego close to twelveforty five, basically straight out of baggage
claim right to the arena. Justa really, really really rough weekend of
commercial flight travel for the San Diegosoccers. So all those things, players
sitting, terrible travel, freezing temperaturesin Tacoma. That affects your pregame and

(19:53):
everything else. Six' five win, you know, book it common dub,
not a big deal, book thew and and hopefully you're leaving that
match going. Hey, they struggled, they didn't have all their top players,
A short handed Tacoma team took themright to the wall. That should
never happen like that. That side, even with Pereira, shouldn't be close

(20:17):
to San Diego in a match necessarily. But you get the dub, you
get on the plane tomorrow and hopefullyyou can get six points out of the
weekend. So yeah, several factors. You know. Obviously a lot of
the boys stepped up. Those whohaven't had as much time with real in
game minutes this season really stepped up. But another thing to kind of factor
in is I was, you know, rewatching the game and then rewatching some

(20:40):
of the highlights. Is some ofthe players that you are gonna see in
that highlight package and the Shiwawa Savagepackage. Some of the plays that would
normally go through, some of theruns, some of the touches, some
of the passing was much more crispover in Tacoma, where those simple bounces

(21:00):
that luck, that ball that travelsbehind Xavier that maybe goes in on Sunday,
And it's just one of those matcheswhere things weren't went right over in
Tacoma. Some were fortunate, youknow, they got themselves into a pickle
by their own errors at times. That chicken wing, you got a penalty
given by Exavier at there. Sothat's two goals right there to make this

(21:23):
closer than it needed to be.But I mean, all things considered,
we see this in other iterations ofthe sport too, in the MLS and
the Conka Champions whatever tournament. Thisis where a Mexican team was stuck in
an airport for who knows how longyou really have to keep that body moving.
You have to get rest. Again. Rest is such a key component

(21:45):
to this, and if you're notgetting rest between matches, let alone,
traditionally, if everything goes right, then you have these monkey rench thrown with
cancelations. It's just it's a recipefor disaster. And again I don't know,
it's it's bringing context to everything inthe weekend that happened. But even
then, also that's the Texas gainit didn't happen. That also plays a

(22:10):
factor because the players aren't in rhythm. They're used to having this game.
Absolutely, this game that was supposedto happen. The preparation goes into it.
If you take that week off,the body definitely feels it. You
don't have that high stakes matchup withwhat you're primed for. That didn't happen
against Texas because of the water mainbreak, But again that's all part of

(22:30):
that. You know, one dropat a time, one drop at a
time, and it ended up beinga one drop too many, which brings
us to Sunday and to the legendof Genoni Martinez. Genoni Martinez Paili scareda

(22:51):
over four hundred and fifty goals, over four hundred and fifty assists. Playing
in Mexico was part of La Razade Monterrey in MISL played for what was
it called CCM Sidekicks down in MexicoCity as well. That challenged the soccers
in the semifinals. In twy teneleven, when San Diego won, they

(23:12):
faced Jeroni Martinez in that semifinal.Chris Tost's first ever playoff win was there.
He played his career from the ninetiesand two thousands all the way to
twenty nineteen with RGV when he ledthat team to the playoffs. Geronti Martinez
is, according to the Mexican Indoorjournalists, the best and most famous indoor

(23:37):
player in the history of the greatcountry of Mexico. So Jeroni Martinez brings
an aura with him. I'm sureloyal players the first time Landon Donovan stood
in front of them with a whiteboardand started to talk to them, there
was probably this feeling of, Oh, my god, the greatest American player

(23:57):
is coaching me. And I mean, wouldn't you agree, Tony. I
saw a bought in, savage sidelike you could almost never see in the
MSL. But it's the type ofthing you love to see in sports.
Every huddle, every player connected together, listening, vibing, on Genoni Martinez.

(24:18):
Martinez just in them, in them, you know, the jockey with
the whip that just won't stop.Like he absolutely changed the culture in that
match. And I definitely believe thatyou saw that legendary status come out in
his first game as Chihuaalah head coach. Yeah. No, it's somebody who

(24:40):
you respect. The press release wasamazing because they call him in Kiffa.
The hiffis the chief of chiefs. That's the guy that's the king of everything.
That's the guy that we're gonna goahead and put our everything into.
You know what, Thank you verymuch. We're gonna go ahead and slide
you down. But here we go, Gannoni a guista. There you go.
And it paid dividends to be honest, and everybody wanted to play for

(25:04):
JANNONI and they wanted to do theirbest. They wanted to showcase what they
have and show that you know what, you didn't join any other team.
You joined the current reigning defending champions. And I think having that mentality also
is gonna be dangerous for everybody else. The MAASL wants to be a sport

(25:25):
that people can bet on, andI find that sleeping hilarious. I would
almost want to swear on soccer's overtime. I find it hilarious because the MAASL
is nowhere's near the level of professionalismneeded to be able to give Better's nationwide

(25:45):
in Las Vegas, worldwide sharps andfans alike a fair swing at a bet.
And let me give you an exampleof what I'm talking about. Okay,
this type of stuff happens semi regularlyin this league, and far more
often than it should. With Mexicanteams and especially coming to San Diego,

(26:08):
it happens almost every game. It'sgetting to the point that it happens almost
every game. Now I'll let youknow what I'm talking about. Every team
stays at the Dana in Mission Bay, right, that's the team hotel of
the San Diego Soccers. So whenclubs come to San Diego, they stay
at the Dana. And when youstay at the Dana, of course,

(26:29):
you submit a rooming list. Youhave to submit the names of the players
that are on the trip, andninety five out of one hundred times you
get that rooming list, and that'sthe roster for the next day, because
like, why would you fly someonethe next day or keep them at a

(26:49):
different hotel for some reason, likewhy would you do something like that.
It's the major arena soccer league. But something like that happened with the Chiwaba
Savage because we had the rooming list, we had the roster we created,
as Tony knows, our roster board, we create a roster board for every
single game. And we're out therewe record our broadcast, open down on

(27:12):
the floor for warm ups, andwe talk about Jeroni Martinez and we talk
about the Savage, and then Tonyand I turn around, we're done recording.
We turn around, we look aroundand there's Everardo Sanchez, the previous
head coach of the Savage, andhe is directing all of the training on

(27:33):
the floor. You know, he'sdirecting all the warm up. And then
we kind of look around. Ilook behind the net, I look on
the bench, look in the stands, like, I know what Jenoni Martinez
looks like. There's no Genoni. We watched the whole warm up. No
Gennoni to be found anywhere. AndI'm asking Tony, I'm like, in

(27:53):
your whole life, have you everheard of a head coach taking over?
And then the next aim is likeagainst the top competition and the coach is
just not there. Unlet's the assistantthat was demoted coach the game. We
were flabbergasted Tony and then we gotthe lineup card and we'll have to get

(28:14):
to the lineup momentarily. But Ganoni'ssignature was on the lineup card. I'm
like, are they I mean,it just said Genoti, going like did
they forge? This? Is thisreal? And finally out he comes in
a dapper, light blue checkered suit, Jennoni Martinez. He he didn't even
like, he didn't even want tolet anyone see him until it was match
time. I just thought that waswild gamesmanship. Maybe I don't know,

(28:37):
like we were trying to figure outis this the on the singstre is that
a lettergy looks like it? Butother than that, like I've never seen
that, And I mean, therewas just surprises left and right. And
you know, if this is theirversion or way of, you know,
manipulating the clock when when we're downin Mexico that they can do over here,
they can try to, you know, and the rules and test the

(29:00):
elasticity of let's see how much we'regonna get away with that might be part
of it, and I don't know, like it's very interesting the fact that
that even happened and got rolled out. So then we watched The Savage.
I'm kind of going jotting back intime just a little bit, but it's
okay. Imagine like a Tarantino movie, we're skipping back and forth in times

(29:21):
slightly. So again, there areTony and I having completed our pregame open
and we watched The Savage, youknow, jog out on the field,
and I'm like, we see thisbig dude with this weird hair, like
almost like a possessed razor, waslike flying around in a windstorm through the

(29:42):
locker room and just like boo ohno, it got me again, like
just taking off like chunks, likelike almost like something you'd see in a
zombie movie or something. Give themthe weirdest hair possible. And it was
a number that wasn't even on thelist, like no where to be found.
We're going, well, who's thisdude? And it wasn't until we

(30:04):
got back up to our broadcast perchthat we founded was Clebson Rodriguez and hey,
if your soccer's overtime viewer, yousaw our interview with those Carcanchez in
Monterey and he was talking about someof the issues with Juala, and he
included that they invested in these Brazilianfutsal stars, professional footsal league stars who
had not either played or contributed tothe club. Well maybe they were waiting

(30:29):
to pay him for a big match. Clebson Rodriguez was out there and guess
what, he got a goal andhe got an assist in the match,
and you know, he didn't lookgood and warm ups, but he looked
pretty good in the match, Tony, yah know, and just looking at
you know, now we've found outthat this person even exists, Like all
right, let's see who he is. And that's how we found out that.

(30:51):
Okay, you know, he hassome accolades in the Lego do Brazil
and Football Siete. He has acouple of trophies in the top tier of
footsaw over in Brazil. But that'sone of the surprises that that came along.
We're like, oh, okay, you saw him in the game flow
of things. There's definitely an understandingof what's needed in the mechanics to play
the game in Dora, and hehas He's very athletic, but just kind

(31:15):
of thinking back to the interview,I'm like, Okay, well, if
that's one of them, is arewe just going to have more surprises like
these, like what's going to happenwith this team moving forward? But I
mean he played well, but hopefullypay enough to get himself a better uh
you know, barber or hair routine. Yeah, I mean, hey,
if that's his choice, you knowYacondo, so it's fine. But also

(31:41):
not on the rooming list. Numberninety nine and Rique Ki Ki Kanyees,
who we've seen over and over hadn'tbeen playing. Boop, there he was.
Are tourovi eight, one of thestarting defenders from the championship game,
wasn't in the lineup before, wasn'ton the rooming list. Boop, there
he was. And then you lookedin at and I looked up and I'm
like, that ain't Terry Muno's that'sDiego Renoso. I know. This guy

(32:09):
by many considered the best keeper inMexico. At least prior to twenty nineteen,
it was undisputed that Diego Renoso wasthe best keeper in Mexico. In
twenty nineteen, he and Bernavaldovino's splittime for the World Cup team. When
they went undefeated, they would playhalf in, half out, and then
that wound up being their situation inMexico as well. And then when Monterey

(32:30):
came back, Diego went back toMonterey. That's where he lives, that's
where he usually plays. But Bernawent to Monterrey this year. It was
just Ivon, Terry Munos and akid from Brazil in net for the Savage.
But they've decided to pony up andthey paid for Diego Renoso, and

(32:52):
boy, we talk about a returnon investment. As we get to the
highlights. Tony Diego Renoso, he'sone of the best indoor keepers in the
world and he showed up against asoccers team that didn't bring a ton to
the floor on Sunday night. Nowright here, you see you know how
this team goes. They're an energyteam, Tony. If any one of

(33:14):
these early goals goes in, thesoccers find their legs and they feel very
excited. But there's a calumn Reynososaved. We saw Escalante kick one off
the line. There just proper planning. Reynoso is always in the right position.
He is an extremely well positioned, extremely calm goalkeeper. And early attempts
here by San Diego, just alittle bit off that deflected Drude, just

(33:37):
the spin a little too fast, not to get the slam dunk. We
get to the second quarter, Soccer'sa little lucky there. But by this
point, even just a minute intothe second quarter, it had been about
ten straight minutes of possession for theSavage, we just knew that the first
goal was coming their way. Iliterally said it like thirty seconds before it

(33:58):
happened on the broadcast, Tony sayingone, nothing is coming. And then
there was Papa Hernandez scoring again forChihuaba. Won nothing on the board again
for Chihuabo. All of it feltextremely painful. A little bit of a
touch for Boris there, nonetheless,as le Barson Rodriguez sent the pass back,

(34:20):
it's into the net. It's oneto nothing Chihuahua. And the second
quarter Boris Pardo gigantic save, hugesave right there, easily could have been
too nothing. This is just atremendous stop by Boris against Luis Midrano,
but the Soccers barely had a chanceon net in this quarter. Here's what

(34:43):
could have been one try knock down. Watch the physicality and the intensity of
this Chihuahua team defensively and when aball gets through, there's Renoso perfectly positioned
to kick it out top of thearc. That's the things we dream of
for San Diego. Child's into thewall, ruggle off the post, still
one nothing good saves by boris there. This is a highlight reel. So

(35:07):
what you don't see are all theminutes of chihuaba just carrying the ball,
carrying the ball, carrying the ball. Here's the look that you think,
Okay, first minute, third quarter, we're gonna score. Here's the thing
about that play. I don't knowif you could do it. We're watching
it right here. Watch good tierGutierres steps around, makes the unselfish play.
You know, Christian hasn't been shootinga lot. He's straight at the

(35:29):
net, but he might have hadhis shot blocked. He made the right
play. But in making that play, it allowed Layoll to get back into
the mat, into the play andto make the save. You see it
one more time, stepping around Popper. But there's layout. Yeah, and
as you're choosing the correct plays rightand they're just not going in Craig I
was. It was incredible to seehonestly, it was frustrating. More opportunities.

(35:53):
But Renoso again, you never feltlike he was truly challenged. But
that's the way Diego plays the position. He holds his ground. A lot
of times when goals are scored againstRenoso, you'll see him just kind of
standing there. And because the positionyou know, you shot the angle passed
his position, he just keeps calmand keeps his position. Great goal for
two nothing for Chihuahua, I saidon the broadcast. Two felt like seven.

(36:16):
Uh. This is the young kidCastaneda who wears three seventeen. In
the chat they said, the storythere is that was the date his mom
passed away, So definitely some heartbehind that number. And then there's Reno
so just ready to go, readingplays, keeping his eye on things and

(36:36):
stuff, starts to turn the otherdirection for the San Diego soccers. Castaan
Jeda in like, well there itis three nothing. Well not beautiful I
can say about that. It's againthe Savage were playing at optimum pace.
They were really efficient, like it'sgetting your car right after an oil change.
They got an oil change and atune up as well, and they

(36:59):
were firing on all cylinders here usuallyBoris, you know, gets a hand
on these or just it just wasn'thappening, and he played well. Boris
played well. But even then there'snothing that can be done when a team
is just all over you. Culbersonhas to be Cleverson, pardon me,
has to be excited bringing partter tohis knee there with the fake on the

(37:22):
role before getting the goal over him. That's a very clutch goal. Eyerol
tells the story from Boris right there. But just watch the technique here.
Perera asked the fake, oh dragthat brought him to the knees, right
foot to left foot. Gleb Ersonfor nothing. Chihuahua Frankoso doing his stuff

(37:46):
one handed save beautiful Coasta, nowanother one right, No, so just
soccer. Start the fourth quarter insix attackers almost get one back there.
You thought maybe if they got oneand then another in the first couple of
minutes, it might really just changethe dynamic. That's another one that they

(38:07):
could have had right there inside ofthe post and out another dribbler off the
post. Little things, little missesthe effort there. The team is playing
their second game in literally what let'ssee, twelve seventeen hours second game in
seventeen hours and in two states forthat matter. Chihualla no games this week,

(38:34):
week of training with their brand newcoach, chance to rest in San
Diego, chance to sneak players in. However, they snuck in Reino So
and everyone else. Finally a goal. Finally a goal. I really thought
it was going to happen. Iwas really afraid it was going to happen.
Don't give them that much space toVOI will score. Thank you for
giving him that much space to voicescored. We are not shut out for
the first time in modern soccer's history. Cherry on top from Miguel On Heldiaz

(38:59):
in the final minute for five toone, your final score. And I
don't I don't know at this point. I don't know if I need to
go back and look this up,but I believe this is either tied for
or it is the most emphatic homeloss in modern San Diego soccer's history,

(39:20):
if you just go back and seeand how great this team has been in
terms of a home team. Ithink this is their ninth all time loss
in fifteen years at home. Butto actually be shut out almost at home
by the Chiuwaba Savage you kind ofhave to put this one at the top

(39:42):
of the list, Tony in termsof opposing team efforts. Yeah, you
could definitely see there was a specificshot that we both looked at each other
going into the fourth quarter, andit's just the stark contrast. You have
Savage. Everybody's huddled up, laseredfocus in their winning. They are on
pace for a four to zero win, but they're still getting yelled at,

(40:05):
they're still getting instructions, they're stillgetting educated and what could be better and
how to finish this and how tokeep going. On the other side,
I didn't necessarily see that it wasa tired team. There was a team
that had heavy, heavy, heavylegs and there's nothing for them to have
done at that point. And Imean I saw comment earlier. It's just
talking about Rhinoso and how he's beenlucky against the soccers. And sure,

(40:30):
look, there's something that in thesoccer community and the goalkeeper community will say
is that a goalkeeper without luck isn'ta goalkeeper. That's just part of the
job that just comes with You haveto be fortunate in that sense. But
at the same time, it's theother way around. The soccers were not
sharp. They were not able toexecute in the last third to get anything

(40:52):
really past that defense who was lockingeverybody down. They were incredibly quick,
they were incredibly sharp with what theywere doing, and honestly, they just
got outplayed. They just got outplayedin every single sense. The Soccers did.
And I've never seen a soccers teamjust be manhandled this way. And

(41:13):
you know what, hopefully there's positivesto be taken and what would the Empire
is all I'm gonna say. Ifthings are well, the Empire coming up
on Wednesday. Yeah, Callen inthe chat brings up a playoff loss that
was a year I was away tento four. Sonora winning in San Diego
in the playoffs is the worst losshe's seen in his eleven years on the

(41:37):
mic. That's that's gotta be it. I was kind of thinking regular season,
Callen in terms of results, butI think you make a great point
there. That's probably the one.Just a couple of notes from my preview
material for tomorrow's match to underline this. Because we soccers fans, the team
loses and we go into well, look normally I look like this, and

(42:00):
then the soccers lose and I looklike that. I look like that.
Here's a couple of fun notes foryou. With that loss. The Soccers
are now eighty five seven and oneall time since two thousand and nine at
home, eighty five seven and onein the last four plus seasons forty seven

(42:25):
three and one, forty seven tothree and one at home. That was
the third. That was the third, right there. So this team dominates
on their home floor. This teamfinds wins all the time on their home

(42:46):
floor. They come back. Ifthey're down, they come back. And
I think that's kind of why thatgame was. I'll just speak for myself,
like that game was breaking me onthe broadcast. I was legitimately,
I'm just telling you my God's honesttruth, Tony. I was nervous when
I turned on the replay the nextday because the way I felt inside.

(43:08):
I'm like, I hope I didn'trip the team. Like that's what I
thought to myself, Like, Ihope I didn't rip the team. And
if someone on the team said, hears me say that the Soccers are being
dominated when it's two nothing, andthey don't like that, there are plenty
of soccer matches outdoors that are onenothing, two nothing, zero zero where
one team dominates the other. Andthat's what I was talking about. Possession,

(43:30):
control, game flow, all ofthat was dominated by Chuaala. The
scoreboard wasn't you know? Two nothingis is nothing right? Three nothing,
four nothing? All these scores aremeaningless. The soccers can score three goals
in a minute, we know that. But as each period went on and
the team is not only not scoring, but you know, you saw essentially

(43:52):
in that highlight video, we justplayed like literally every chance that the soccers
generated in the match, it's notthe number that we are used to seeing.
And you said it too, Tony. The shots of the bench in
the third and fourth quarters, andthe Chihuaba side being activated and together and
linked, and the soccers having halfthe guys listening, half the guys turning

(44:14):
the other directions, some guys staringinto the sun. You know, it
just it wasn't a great look.It looked like a really tired team that
got beaten physically, mentally, emotionally, just beaten across the board by the
Chiuava Savage. In many ways,it was a perfect storm. A tired

(44:34):
soccers team, a bad travel weekend, and interstate back to back. Janoni
Martinez his first game, Diego Reinoso'sfirst game, Cleverson Rodriguez his first game.
Like all of these things combine,Soccers lose five to one. The
only thing like, you know,we're sad, we're mad, we're frustrated,

(44:55):
We're going home. I'm thinking aboutline up changes, I'm thinking about
tac changes, I'm thinking about everything. You watch the game back. Watching
the game back didn't make me necessarilyfeel better about the game. Not gonna
lie to you. It didn't lookbetter the next day on tape. It's
about a pretty tape. It's atape. I hope Philosovagio and cheeky Luna

(45:15):
coach off for a month straight. The one thing that really disappointed me was
that you saw the players that theSoccers held home on Saturday night, and
Boris was sick, So you know, I thought he played fine. You
know, Serta Mitchell, those guyshave been dealing with some nagging things.

(45:38):
I thought, you know, wherethey like giant factors in the game.
No, but also you didn't seethem on the wrong end of many of
these highlights in the game flow. And obviously he's been a friend for years
and years, but the Soccer's captainis Craig Giles. And Craig hasn't traveled
yet. I think tomorrow he'll travelto Ontario. He didn't travel to Tacoma

(46:01):
for any of these road matches. He didn't travel to Dallas. He was
fresh. He was the guy thesoccers needed to count on on Sunday evening
for offense. You know, ChristianGutierrez was tired to void, Morgan was
tired. Those guys played full matchesthe night before. And Craiger put up
a zero on his zero, youknow, and he really wasn't. He
was barely even on the field inthe second half because of the game flow

(46:23):
and because of the nature of it, and of course at his age,
he's looking for set pieces, powerplays, corner kicks, you know,
ways to impact the match. Weall understand it. It's not Craig Child's
of twenty eleven, you know,it's later in his career, but healthy,
rested captain leader, zero zero onthe board. It's just it's tough.

(46:50):
It's one. I'm sure he doesn'tneed me to say it, you
know. I mean, this isthe guy who knows. It's like talking
to Manny Machado about his batting average. You know, it's like he doesn't
need me to say it. Heunderstands everything happened. But that was kind
of the one thing in the end, after I kind of storted through all
of it and all of it again, I'm like, gosh, we didn't
send five guys to Tacoma, andwe still looked like we sent everyone to
Tacoma because the guys who did restdidn't really impact the game on Sunday the

(47:14):
way you hope they would. Yeah, there weren't any combination of players I
think that would have made a differenceon Sunday against Chihuahua. And I mean
talking about Craig right, like, this is just you know, something that
I was thinking as well, isthat that pressure I think has kind of
seeped in a little bit. Perhapsthat big four hundred I mean, have

(47:37):
zero zero is again almost impossible.I would have bet anything to tell you
that, Yeah, no, he'llget into sis, he'll get he'll get
a goal, he'll get something hereat home. We've had back to back
chances to have that here at home. And you know what might happen at

(47:58):
Ontario might happen up north that atthe end of the day, that needs
to be the next step, atleast for Craig Child's sake, is just
get that out of the way.Just there's passes, there's times there's frustration
that you can see from Craig earlyon in the game, which you normally
wouldn't see. You still have thatintensity from Craig. He gets a bad
foul, gets a bad call,he's gonna be in the referees face.

(48:20):
But there's times where there's a chancethat just doesn't go his way, something
gets a bad rebound or a badmiss from him, and there's just there's
clearly a pressure there, and Ithink let's just get that taken care of.
Let's just move on forward. Butother than that, I think I
have to agree with you where it'slike, then what was the point of
resting players? Not that I understandwhat the point was, but if might

(48:46):
as well have played the same rosteryou played up there, Give the kids
a chance, give the get thekids some legs. I don't know.
It was. It was. Itwas hard to watch, it was difficult.
It was it was frustrating, man, it was frustrating for old Snockers
fans. You can see it inthe chat as well as so many of
our fans saying, it's not justa loss, it's the way it happened,
you know, a ton of physicality. Honestly, every single one of

(49:08):
Chiuaba's tactics were great. They weregreat, very physical. In the first
two quarters. You know, ShaneButler and Crewe, they weren't committing blue
collars though they really weren't. Theywere just committing fouls, you know,
And you can rack up in thisversion, in this MASL version of four
personal fouls for a blue cart insteadof sixteen fouls, you could rack up

(49:30):
over thirty fouls and a half withoutactually getting carded for anything. They didn't
rack up thirty, but they fouledthe soccers. They slowed the match down.
When they had the ball, theypossessed the ball. They spent the
whole first half possessing the ball. And it was just like a heavyweight fight.
Working the body, working the body, working the body. You know,

(49:51):
body punches for the first six, seven, eight rounds, doesn't seem
like it's doing anything at all,but slowly you were building that up for
to all fall down. And Ithink Chihuahba just had all the credit in
the world. A great game plan. Ultimately, motivated. Not a fun

(50:12):
game to watch. I agree,it wasn't a fun game to watch.
It by design and style, itwas not a fun game to watch.
It was a game that Chihuahua wantedto choke the life out of this match,
and they did it, and againin the second half, there was
no response from San Diego. That'sthe thing that's disappointing. That's the thing
that you just count on as asoccers fan is even when you're down three,
even when you're down four, theother team is going to be sweating

(50:37):
before this game's over. Even ifwe lose, it's going to be four
to three and the extra attacker isgoing to be in and you guys are
going to be on your heels andyou're going to be praying to be able
to survive this match. And thatis not the way it happened on Sunday.
So pick it up and recognize justwhat I said to start this very
long replay segment. We'll say tofinish it. There are levels. There

(51:00):
are levels to competition, and thesoccers need to know the top level is
Monterey and Chihuahua. It's not justMonterey, it's Monterey and Chihuahua. This
is the level. This is wherethe championship is. It's up here,
and the championship of this league rightnow, it's going to be Chiuala and

(51:21):
Monterey. The soccers have to changethat conversation. They can do it.
I have all the faith in theuniverse that they have the most talent on
their roster, that they have theleadership, that they have the character,
that they have everything that they needto win the championship. I firmly believe
that this team has what it takesto win the championship, maybe win the

(51:43):
shield. Although we'll get to MASLnews in a little bit. But there
are levels, and now you knowwhere the level is and what you have
to do. You should know nowwhat you have to do to get there.
Okay, earlier this afternoon because hehad to work during this time,
he's working tonight. Had the opportunityright when I got home from Manny and

(52:06):
Elston ten to two Monday through Fridayninety seven three the fans Sandy Goes number
one sports station, I got thechance to sit down and chat with Xavier
Snare Williams, the winning goalkeeper fromSaturday. Please enjoy this recorded conversation with
the X Man. All right, here he is Xavier Snare Williams joining us

(52:29):
on Soccer's Overtime. Obviously it's adifferent period of time. I got a
different outfit on. Everyone now knowswe're back in time. Xavier, thanks
so much for finding this time tojoin us. Of course, of course,
anytime you ask, I got you. Greg much appreciated my friend.
Now, we just talked about twogames. I want to focus on the

(52:49):
one we liked a lot more thatsix' five victory over Tacoma. And
it was your first chance to getbetween the pipes this year as a starting
keeper. How excited were you inanticipation of this match? You know what,
I'm not gonna lie to you.It was like a little bit of
excitement and then a whole lot ofdirt. I was so nervous, So
my mom I was like, man, I'm like, god, Edge,

(53:12):
I don't want to like look horrible, you know, I want to be
there for my team. And itwas like, so it was a lot
of It was a lot of excitement, but it was also, like I
said, like a lot of nervesleading up to the match. But you
know, the biggest thing for mewas just remembering, Okay, you could
be as nervous as you know, the tallest mountain in the world, but
as long as you get your butterfliesin line, everything will be okay.

(53:37):
And of course game action can dothat for you, right you get out
there, and maybe even the firstand second quarter it's a different feel,
but things really came together for youin the fourth quarter. They're making some
big stops and I imagine that's wherethe point where all that other stuff's out
the window and is just reaction time, right, yeah, exactly. Like
once the every quarter was like abuilt like a stepping stone. So like

(53:58):
the first quarter, I was likesuper nervous, but you know, it's
like, okay, we got this. You know, just focus on feet
and passing this and that, likesimple stuff. And then second quarter it
was like, okay, like gettingtothe game, we saw the lead.
Third quarter was like all right, you know we're in it, but now
it's like go time. And thenthe fourth quarter was like once we got
five to five, I'm like,we're gonna win this game. Like it's

(54:21):
is over, Like I will throw, like throw in front of everything.
So I was like no way,I'm like we got to get this way,
and then when we got it,it felt so good. One thing
I know that they have been workingwith you since your rookie year is footwork
passing, putting the ball in thecorner, getting that dump pass into the
glass. That's a usable pass foryour midfielder or your forward. You had

(54:45):
to be gratified to see the waythe ball kissed off the glass for Gabriel
Costa for that equalizer. Oh mygoodness. Okay, when I tell you,
I felt like a five year oldwhen he scored it. I was
just so excited. It was funnybecause it's just our job a keeper,
like right, get the ball down, help our teammates out, you know
all of that. But it justfelt like such a reward. When I

(55:07):
hit it, I was like Ithought it was too low, Like I
was just when I struck the ball, I was like, oh, I
was a little too low, tryingto like get it down there. And
then when it went through and hegot it, I was like, oh,
okay, like cool, and thenwhat do you hit it? I
was like, no, what isthat gonna go in? And I would
have wedded. I just felt like, oh my gosh, Like I said,
I'm a big fiber and running goinglike, oh my gosh, you

(55:28):
know, my buddy Di scored. So it was a really cool feeling that
everything came together and you know, really grateful for you know, Sean boys
coming early to help me like workon my feet, especially this year,
so you very grateful for that.Yeah, you have two incredible mentors every
day at training in Boris Pardo andthen Victim Melendez, your guys goalkeeper coach.

(55:50):
And obviously Boris is one of thegreat indoor keepers of the modern era.
He's a three time goalkeeper of theYear. He's the MASL Wins leader.
You know, like he's at thislist of stuff that it makes sense
why he starts twenty three, youknow, twenty two matches in a season.
But you're learning from the elite ata young age. What do you

(56:10):
feel you're what are you pulling outof this? I'd say the biggest piece
of advice I have to say Borisgave me that's helped me grow from like
that first year to now is it'struly a mental piece of the game of
I can hit a ball, youknow, saying eight out of ten times
perfectly, but if I'm in myhead I'll miss ten out of ten times,

(56:36):
so I might have the tool todo it, but if my mental
side isn't there to hit it,or like I'm like drowning myself in in
diety or whatever, and I'm messingup because I'm trying to be perfect instead
of just hit the ball. Thenthat's what I'm mess up on. But
if I can get out of myhead and then just go with the flow
of like everything, then I could, you know, do so much better.
So I have to thank him forthat piece of advice because it's helped

(56:57):
me like, okay, like calmand then hit. Calm, just hit.
So I'm very thankful for Boris tobe that mentor in that aspect.
You sound like me at the golfcourse, like get out of your head,
be calm, and just hit theball. I mean, and every
time that that happens, it's somuch better. I can't help but agree
with this advice. It's hilarious.Yeah. No, I remember there was

(57:21):
a time I can't hitting the ballright and he's like, you're thinking about
hitting the ball right, aren't you, And I'm like yeah, He's like,
keep thinking about hitting the ball rightand get hit even more right.
I was like, oh yeah, you started laughing. So I was like
I just thought about hitting, like, hey, I'm gonna hit to strike
it, just strike it. Andthen I struck the next ball. It
was perfectly fine, So awesome, outstanding stuff. Victor meanwhile comes up with

(57:43):
some of the more unique training regimentsthat I think you could see trying to
catch the squishy ball that's hit offof a tennis racket. What is it?
Something like sometimes when you see someof these new things, how much
how difficult is it to assimilate thatin I was like, now I'm used
to it. Now I'm like, all right, let's do it. I'm
like all about it. Because thefirst time I want to sales last year,

(58:06):
my first year in the on theteam, he started doing somewhere like
you throw the ball like you saidto squishy balls, but there's also another
one where you throw the ball up, you pass the ball back and catch
it, and I'm like, huh, like juggle it. So I'm like,
I was just so new to everythingand I was like a baby duck.
I could not do anything. Itwas hilarious. And so now that
I've gotten used to it, Ilove it because every little aspect helps where

(58:30):
it's like you throw the ball up, so you have to think about out
of your peripheral like timing and you'refocusing on hands. So like every little
thing he does, there's a reasonfor it and definitely helps like my aspects
of the game. So I'm verygrateful for that too. I got to
just say, it's so delightful tobe talking about all this pleasant stuff.
It's such a nice respite from talkingabout Shiuala and what we've had to talk

(58:51):
about in the first half hour ofthis show. But take us a little
bit inside the locker room because look, obviously the soccers and losing, it's
not something we ever want to getused to. And believe me, there
are locker rooms in every sport. They get quite used to putting up a
one to five, you know,to putting up a Hey, it's second
game of a back to back.We get crushed in this game, No

(59:13):
big deal. I know, thissoccers team holds itself to a standard unlike
almost any others. So after agame like that, respecting to the utmost
the competition of Chihuahua, how goodthey are? Now Genoni got him coached
up. What was the feeling likein the room. It was definitely a
feeling of like I don'tmost say todespair, but it was like one of

(59:36):
those like heartbreaks kind of like youknow, it works so hard, you
know we lost. It was likewow, and it's like a lot of
things we got to fix. ButI'd say everything in the nutshell is our
biggest thing moving forward, is likewe have to stay together and work together
and then just fix the little knutsand you know, bumps and to smooth
everything out. But honestly, likeone of the things is like we rather

(59:58):
have the loss now with them theplayoffs, So it's like we got a
taste of this bitter medicine, sonow it's only going to help us grow
stronger. And you know, wecould start sorrow to be the biggest thing.
Yeah, I mean it really feelslike there's a standard really being set
by Monterey and by Chiualma, Andyou know Chiuaba's only losses are to Monterey.
So when you look at those twoteams together, I mean it's just

(01:00:22):
clear that they've they're planning on howto beat you. And I think holding
that level in mind, like keepingthat centered is going to be critical to
the soccers winning a championship this year. No, I completely agree. Yeah,
we have to. You know, they're trying to beat us. Everybody
wants to bring their best game whenthey play us. So now it's just

(01:00:44):
how can we level up and notrestructure, but like fix things to be
more like a mystery, you know, because everybody studies us. Everybody knows,
you know, what we want todo. So now it's like,
okay, how could we surprise somebodyand you know, come out and you
know, give him that soccer's magic. All right, last thing, I'll
let you go. You went withthe green kit uh in Tacoma, and

(01:01:07):
it just made me think about, you know, a sweet pea being a
green pea and being out there inthe pod and you know, just excellent
choice in terms of going with thegreen there. I think for anybody who
doesn't know, Sweepee is the nicknamemy mom gave me because I know we
would be like sleep meat. Yeah, so that's Craig's love. It's like

(01:01:30):
an egg, you know, anybodywho games, it's like, sleepy is
my nickname, and it's finally out. Okay, you're three, you get
it, Craig, I give ityou. I love it. But you
know the irony is, I didn'teven think that we were about like we
wore green. You're completely right,it was perfect for the sweet beat.
I did not correlate that one, well none. I tipped my hat,

(01:01:52):
dude, Greg, the dad jokesare in reserved. You can hold it
for the right momento, drap itright in just like just like a pee
in the soup, you know, just drop it in right there and it
all works out. Savier, Iknow you got to get to work.
Really appreciate your time. Great gameon Saturday. Look forward to seeing you

(01:02:14):
out there again soon. Thank you, thank you. I appreciate you,
Greig, thank you for always havingme on you bet. I love that
kid. What a ray of sunshine. That's that's amazing. He's so excited
to be in the position and gratefuland I've ran into him and I saw
him in action with Soccer's two lastyear, and it's such a great person

(01:02:35):
and human being to have in thelocker room. And everybody needs an Xavier
in their life at some point,so it's good to have him. And
man like the way he was describingthose training sessions, it brought me back.
I was he was describing I'm like, oh yeah, like yeah,
you do this like kind of intomy own PTSD of soccer training back in
the day, and it's a verymystery me yangy way of doing things.

(01:03:00):
Boris. I was of like, what am I doing this for? And
then boom boom boom you put itan action in the game and you're like,
oh, okay, that's that's whywe do that. One hundred percent.
Big thanks to Xavier Snare Williams, who again is in a work shift
right now so we couldn't join uslive, but we got the chance to
crank that out. So thanks tohim for making the time earlier this afternoon.

(01:03:21):
Thanks to myself for making the timeas well. Big big ups to
both of us, head to allof you for watching, for watching the
interview. Thank you so much.We couldn't do it. We couldn't do
it without you. I just Icouldn't help. But notice the viewer count
start to tick up up up,you know why, because it's time for
MASL News. It's time for thesegment all the gms, all the coaches,

(01:03:45):
players, man. We talked aboutWe talked about Defender of the Year
a couple of weeks ago, Tony. I was at the footsal exhibition up
in Anaheim. Who sidles up nextto me, A man oozy tayu oozy
there and he was like, letme ask you a question, Craig,
what does it? What do youneed to vote for the Defender of the
Year. Like he started talking abouthe started chopping it up about stats and

(01:04:09):
everything everything else. Phil comes upto me, Hey, if we somehow
get postponed in CTAC and we can'tget back, I don't want you ripping
the league for the travel schedule. On Soccer's overtime, I'm warning you,
m MASL News. It's why we'rethe show of record in the league.
So listen, I'm gonna I'm gonnatry and help out a couple of teams.

(01:04:31):
Uh. In weird ways to startoff m MASL News. Monterey is
playing momentarily against Kansas City. Bomboscomments. Bombos comments, Uh, I'd
love to see the big Comets dubHowever, Comets were in Monterey Sunday and
they got smacked mapped twelve five andit wasn't closed. It was eight to

(01:04:51):
one at the half. It's whatwe dream of. That's what Monterey is
doing. The teams just sucking thelife out of them, crushing their and
then going into the halftime locker room. H twelve to five was the final
in that game. Monterey is nownine and zero, and it's a literal

(01:05:11):
question, Tony, can anybody beatthe Flash this year? Honestly, they
are doing something incredibly impressive. Andit's not to say that nobody saw us
coming. I think that once yousaw the roster they were going into this
season with front office and training staff, everybody considering the fact that Berna isn't
necessarily the first goalkeeper they're rotating. That's how good this team is. They

(01:05:35):
have a solid squad, solid depth, and they're able to get it done
home and away, and they're justrolling over and steamrolling of this competition and
makes me a little happy that, you know, they weren't necessarily in the
West this time around. It's goodand it's bad, right. It's good
in that you don't have to playMonterey. It's bad in that you don't

(01:05:57):
get to play Monterey. Soccer's beatthree times last year and therefore Monterey couldn't
finish at our level because we beatthem, so uh, you know,
there's the good and the bad withthat. If Monterey wins tonight against Kansas
City, I'm looking at their scheduleand I'm trying to find games that Monterey

(01:06:20):
could possibly lose. The next onewould be their next game on Sunday because
the JANNONI Savage instead of the ChihuahuaSavage, will be in Monterey for the
fifth of their six meetings. Sowill Chihuaba come off of the match against
US bring that same intensity diego againsthis former team? Can they? Can

(01:06:45):
they get the dub on Sunday? That's an opportunity. On Sunday, January
twenty eighth, Monterey goes back toMilwaukee, their second trip to Milwaukee.
First time they went there, theWave had the lead most of the match
and the Flash came back and theywon an overtime. Or was that in
Kansas City. I might have thetwo games mixed up. Nonetheless, Milwaukee,

(01:07:06):
that's a chance, right Milwaukee athome is good. That's a chance
for Monterey to drop a game.I don't think they're going to lose at
Tacoma or at Empire, but younever know about a team that comes to
the West Coast and flies people out. You know, it's not impossible,
but I'd say it's unlikely I wouldthen travel all the way down to Sunday,

(01:07:30):
February twenty fifth, Flash at UticaCity. I've said it before.
I think there's levels to this, and I think Monterey is probably at a
higher level. But that's at leasta chance to lose a game Flash on
a long road trip end of Februaryinto March at Harrisburg at Utica, Texas
at Dallas, March seventh at Shihuahua. That could be the Savages last chance

(01:07:55):
to beat Monterey. Losing to theFlash four times got Everardo Sanchez de noted
Genoni's there to beat Monterey, soyou gotta hope at least one of those
two Chihuabo games the Savage beats Monterey. I think you have to look at
Milwaukee at home as having a chanceto beat Monterey. Buddy, I think

(01:08:15):
that's it. I mean, maybemaybe on that long road trip, maybe
there's a game where someone gets hurtor someone's tired or or whatever. But
I'm looking at two or three matchesas the only opportunities for the Flash to
lose. So the odds are they'regoing to win somewhere between twenty two and

(01:08:38):
twenty four games. This year,Yeah, barring any potential injury that can
derail their seat. And I thinkthey even then, they still have the
players and the depth to move onthrough. But as you get closer to
the playoffs, these teams that arethis good tend to only get better as
time rules on. And that's thecompetition that's going to be facing Genoni and

(01:08:58):
the Savage and I think, youknow, I think if it gets to
it, you want those games tokind of align and situations, especially looking
at the chances of the Soccers winningthe Supporter Shield. And again, if
for whatever reason this season the Soccersjust want to punt that away, sure
it'd be great again, but thereal mission is to get the Ron Newman

(01:09:21):
Cup, then sure, but that'sstill part of this narrative and that's going
to set you up for success. And do you really want to have a
chance an opportunity to get eliminated beforethe Western Conference Finals? You want to
give a chance for another team tobe that a side and be as primed
as they can be. I'm notsure if the Soccers want to be in

(01:09:43):
that situation, But all hats offto Monterey because again they look like the
Juggernaut, not just in the East, not just in Mexico, but just
in the league record right now.On the flip, the poor Harrisburg Heat
went out last weekend and dropped acouple more and you know, shout out,
Joey Tabernsi, love you, palpat Healy former Blast. Yikes,

(01:10:09):
Baltimore beat them five to three.Everyone's beaten the Heat so far this year.
I did think it was funny whenwe did that season opener against Takoma
Tony. Yeah, and I talkedabout Matt bram and I just set off
hand like, must be nice forMatt Brame to go to a team where
he's got a chance to make theplayoffs. And I heard from Joey Tabernisi

(01:10:30):
directly. I heard through my ownerfrom the owner of the Heat. They
weren't happy. They were not happythat I would casually mention that the Heat
would probably not make the playoffs.Guys, being self aware is one of
the keys to wisdom, like andmaturity. You're zero to nine, You're

(01:10:53):
not making the playoffs. You're notgoing to win fifteen in a row from
here, but I'd love you towin a game. So can we find
a win for the Heat on thescoreboard? Can we stay away from a
from a bagel for the year,we get some of that Papa John's pizza
order and Harrisburg that we crave somuch for scoring four goals and maybe getting

(01:11:15):
a win. Let's find a winfor the heat. Harrisburg is hosting Utica
and Baltimore this weekend. Those arethe teams that have just creamed them all
year long. Like, maybe maybeyou'll beat Baltimore on the beat Baltimore at
home. February second, Harrisburg atSaint Louis. Let's go. Saint Louis
not playing well, going about agoal a game. Mm hmm. So

(01:11:43):
this is an opportunity for you,Harrisburg. I'd like to see you take
advantage of it. At Milwaukee No. Versus Monterey No, maybe you'll beat
Baltimore at Tacoma twice, Maybe youget them the second time. Maybe Tacoma
sleeps on one of those matches.Versus Dallas. I mean, Khan,
if there's a team you could beatDallas at home back to back, you

(01:12:04):
gotta get one of those to getone of those. If you get past
March tenth without a win, buddy, it's over. Yeah, it's over.
Last Judica blast. It'll be Dunzieduns Donzo at that point. So

(01:12:24):
we're rooting for the heat. Wouldlove to see him beat Baltimore at home.
I feel like it's something they doat least once a year's beat Baltimore
at home. Yeah, you don'twant to get blanked at all. That's
you know, that's not ideal. But come on, the win of honor,
yes, Ghana, is that whatit would be the it's a difficult

(01:12:58):
win of man man of Ghanamn. It's late, it's late, and it's
getting later. Not too late toget the tears list out though. Let's
do it all right, so let'scrank it up. I have it already
preset. Did you want me toshare that one? I can share one
that we can go and fill inas we go. But I already let's

(01:13:20):
fill it in. Let's fill itin, all right, let's fill it
in. Let's go here, boomboom. Maybe if I let me just
reset this because okay, you know, oh hey, as you we said
it. Dee Bishop in the chatsays Craig, talk about the doctor's comments
about the boy you passed last week. I didn't pass. I brought that

(01:13:43):
up on last week's show, Isaid that consider the source not disparaging Jonathan
Reimer, but he was repeating whatArto Hurrado was saying about to Void Morgan.
Arratohurrado, who is now a memberof Empire Strikers and who got in
fights with Tavoy Morgan at training twodifferent seasons. Those two guys did not

(01:14:09):
get along at all. Dorado didnot like Davoi. Ta Void did not
like Lorado. So for Herado tocome up to Empire and then start talking
and saying that Soccer's players don't likeDavoi, Gerardo doesn't like Davoi. It's
very simple, very simple. It'scalled projection. You have a thing you

(01:14:31):
feel, and you put it onsomeone else. You say, everyone feels
this way, now you feel thatway. Soccer's players do not hate to
Voy Morgan. Soccer's players are verygrateful for Davoy Morgan to be on their
team. All teams in every league, in every situation, from Semi pro
to the NFL Super Bowl, teamshave players who dislike each other, have

(01:14:57):
players who the team loves but onst certain days gets mad at or it
doesn't like a thing or a behavior. But then moves along and that's universal.
Okay, that's universal to all playersand teams. Corrado does not like
Davoi. Davoi does not like Corrado. If Tavoi Morgan was saying things about
her other Hourradro, I would sayconsider the source. When Hourrado says things

(01:15:24):
about Davoy, I say, considerthe sorts. Okay. By Calum Mclerk
notes, the worst loss in theregular season for the San Diego Soccers is
twelve to nine January eleventh, twentyfourteen, against Las Vegas. That's the
only three goal loss previously in soccer'sregular season home history. You don't have
to go back to pre Callen becausethe soccer is literally never lost at Del

(01:15:45):
Mar Arena. So wow, thereyou go. Okay, Okay, it
is tearless time. I like beforeyou know, many tierless on the tear
maker. It's s ab CD instead we have contender fringe the rest CD.
That's fine. Yeah, let's go. Let's go. I like s

(01:16:08):
O S Let's go A. Let'sgo. B Okay, are you ready?
Here we go. The S tierit's the Monterey Flash. That's it.
One team in there, all right, S Tier is Monterey Monterey is
the best team in the league rightnow. That should not be a word

(01:16:30):
of insult to a soccers player,or a soccers coach or a soccers fan.
They're nine to zero. They havedominated the competition, dominated, they
have blown teams out of the water. They have won in the United States
multiple times. S Tier is Monterey, and it's Monterey alone. Let's go

(01:16:50):
to the A tier. Let's putour club up there. Boom, I'm
not just counting the soccers. Theylost one game. Yeah, they lost
one game. Give me a break. It's not the Aztecs where we drop
them out of the rankings because theyjust lose one game. And you were

(01:17:11):
right. I saw some frankings floatedaround and I think you mentioned it in
between a commercial breaking like watch,we're gonna go ahead and be placed here
and this is the reason. Andthat's exactly you're a truth teller, Craig.
It just manifests itself, and Ithink it's ridiculous. Yeah, you
saw that right. It's on theMSL website. It's like Monterey's one and

(01:17:34):
Uticus two, and I think Texasis three and then us Yep, what
the hell are you doing? Frankings? These are the real rankings right now.
Next in the E tier Chia CHIHUAAmade it. Wow, tears over.
Tier is over. That's it,that's it. Tier is done.

(01:17:58):
There is a level to this thing. The level is Monterey and Chihuahua.
And the soccers are there too.Okay, I'm not gonna put Shiuaba ahead
of San Diego just for one win, but you almost could. You almost
could. Fact is there three andfour? Fact is also they're three and
ozero against every team not named Monterey. Okay, soccers can't say that.

(01:18:20):
Let's go to the beatier Utica CityFC, Kansas City Comments, Milwaukee Wave,
Texas Outlaws. Oh, here arethe teams that could win a series.

(01:18:45):
These are all teams that could wina series in the playoffs. Utica
looks good, but they are notat Monterey's level. Kansas City a little
bit of a dip. I wouldhave put Kansas City over Utica before this
weekend. Udica went to Kansas Cityin one. Got to give them their
flowers, man, got to givethem their flowers. Milwaukee Wave, They've

(01:19:06):
gotten a lot better over the courseof the last two three weeks. Those
are your top three contenders in theEast that are not named Monterey. That's
your playoff field for the East rightthere. And listen to Texas. They're
calling it the mom line right withMorales, Ortees and Mendez. Those guys

(01:19:28):
give you a chance. There's noquestion about it. There's no question about
it. Some folks in the chatmight say this is a little bit too
low. Let's go to the Seatier. Let's start it with Tacoma.
Yeah, Tacoma's only lost to SanDiego. You could put them higher,
but also, who have they reallybeaten? Yeah, like that doesn't seem

(01:19:51):
quite right, especially with the teensin that tier. So not distant Tacoma,
I'm really not. I mean, the soccer's are four and zero against
them, obviously, they're they're undefeatedagainst everyone. Okay, yeah they yes,
cave Ribberd they beat Utica CITYFC.Can we can we break that down

(01:20:12):
a little bit. Unica CITYFC playedthe night before in Milwaukee with their second
string goalkeeper and then went to Tacomato play the next day with their third
string goalkeeper who got hurt and thesecond stringer came in with a fever of
one hundred and two, so andit was still a pretty competitive match.

(01:20:34):
I think Utica scored like six orseven goals. True, my tears have
their reasons. Okay, the heartnose, with the heart nose, Tacoma's
in the seatier. Also when thecetier is Baltimore. Baltimore is good enough

(01:20:54):
to beat bad teams. But ifyou want to say they're back, they
ain't back, man, and they'renot back. They're good enough to beat
the heat and the ambush. Andthey've been beating the heat and they've been
beating the ambush. That's that's whatthe blasts have been doing. That's how
they've come back. There. Threewins are against Harrisburg, Saint Louis and

(01:21:16):
Harrisburg, all at home. Notrating that because let's get to the D
tier. Empire Empire today today right, Empire's got two wins on the road.

(01:21:38):
Empire has been struggling defensively. We'vebeen scoring some goals. They've been
struggling defensively. They can't be higherthan this. None of the teams above
them on the tier list Empire canlook at and go, no, we
are better to comb has already beatenthem a couple of times in Empire put

(01:21:59):
them in the D tier. PutDallas in the D tier. Put Saint
Louis in the D tier. We'rehoping for a win. Harrisburg. We're
pulling for you, buddy, weare pulling for you. We're pulling for
Harrisburg wins and Monterey losses the restof the year. And that's uh,
that's the Elston two point zero versionof the MASL tiers list. That's how

(01:22:21):
I see it right now, Tony, would you like to adjust anything,
please feel free disagree, engage.I mean, just looking at this,
it reminds me just like a foodchain, that picture of the little fish
eating the getting eaten by the biggerfish, and the bigger fish. I
think this this follows with Blast gettingthose wins against the ambush and the heat.
I think, you know, somebodyhas to beat them, somebody has

(01:22:43):
to not let the Ambush get anysort of tracking or the Heat get a
win. And and you know,at the end of the day, it's
I think as as sound as canbe. Honestly, I'm looking at that
a tier and if there's gonna beany other contender to join them from the
East, or if the Outlaws canget out of that that ranking, but

(01:23:08):
if any movement is possible. Isee maybe Tacoma joining the B minus level,
But other than that, I thinkthis is how it's gonna be the
rest of the season, barring anyinterest. But obviously you can have some
switches later on that could lead tothis situation or that situation. But ultimately,
I think this is as solid thatit's gonna be in looking back at

(01:23:30):
what's been happening this whole season.I think the data shows this is exactly
how it's been. And I mean, again, no dissing anybody else,
but show me the data the showthat tells me otherwise, show me the
games that shouldn't tell me otherwise.Everything considered, you have to understand that,
yeah, there's gonna be games thatthere's gonna there's gonna be situations that

(01:23:53):
happened with travel, with injuries, with that game with no goalkeepers with a
combined two hundred degrees by temperature betweentwo players is not okay. Ever,
especially the go keeper situation concussion protocols. I mean, with all that take
into consideration, when it comes toit, if if on a neutral playing

(01:24:13):
field with a ball being dropped,I think this this followers, and I
think I have to agree with theElson two point zero tier list. We'll
see. We'll see as we getcloser to the playoffs if this does change
in any kind of situation. I'dlove to have that same breakdown from the
league and their rankings as far asthis is why, this is why,
this is why. You know, that's why. Yeah, oh no,

(01:24:33):
they just said it with some algorithm. I'm like, there ain't no advanced
machine for the major arena soccer league. Whatever algorithm may have no algorithm.
What are you talking about? You'nicaCity's number two and we're four because of
one laws Like what, Okay, this is the list right here. Take

(01:24:57):
a look. This is the tierlist right here. If you're a soccer
fan and you're mad that San Diego'stwo on the list, get to that
level, get to that level wherewe feel like you're gonna beat Mona Ray.
If you're a fan of one ofthose Eastern squads and you're a little
upset, I've got you all ina I mean, I think it's very
logical. The Flash are the fearand away Eastern favorite, and then there's
three teams that are in a boattogether in the West. I believe the

(01:25:21):
Soccers and Savage are the Fear andaway favorites to meet in the con or
in the Division final. Texas hasan argument they're a tier below Tacoma could
take that place and flip flop withTexas if they can get results against the
Outlaws. Yeah, procrastinating Puma exactlyright. Yeah, they just went and

(01:25:45):
spent you know, a half milliondollars with some quant firm to come up
with an algorithm for their tiers list. They're using an easy bake oven guys.
I mean it's not that complicated.Have you ever heard of Football Manager
the video game. Oh yeah,it's a video game. Yeah, where
you just it's a soccer simulation simulatorwith no real actual soccer. You just

(01:26:11):
scouting in this and I think that'sthe engine they just createdsl teams put names
and just here you go and justlet it run and see how it goes,
and we'll run with that. That'swell how computer versus computer And you
know, at the end of theday, they had probably Baltimore blasts making
the championship run in this in thesituation, I mean, yeah, they
put in some historic numbers. Itwas it was an algorithm created by A.

(01:26:36):
W. Vanzella. We don't knowwho this was. But nonetheless,
all right, let's get to somesoccer's news briefly. Let's start off with
the latest cup in the cabinet.Eight put the cup in the cabinet.
The soccers are US Indoor Cup championschampions. It really cracked me up that
John Green changed I think our profilepick on Facebook or something to them holding

(01:27:00):
up that trophy. I'm like,it's on X two. That's the the
header. Look. I appreciate,I appreciate his passion. Where is the
cabinet asks procrastinating? Pum A goodquestion. The cabinet is, uh,
well, there's a couple cabinets. There's one at the sports arena down in
the Stella Lounge that has a numberof old trophies and all of the previous

(01:27:25):
championship rings. And then there's thekind of like side table at the soccer's
office where the current Ron Newman cupsand MASL shields are and I'm guessing that
they're using the Pro Indoor Cup.There as either you know, a candy
holder or you know paperweight some look, you shouldn't give out a cup for

(01:27:45):
an exhibition match. I think everyonecould agree that if it's a meaningless exhibition
that there isn't a cup associated withit. Thursday's footsol exhibition on many levels
was successful because this was a leagueendeavor. This was the league, the
major arena of soccer, league lookingto make inroads with the United Soccers Soccer

(01:28:08):
Coaches Convention, trying to get afoothold, an inroad to have indoor discussed
and contemplated at this giant convention ofoutdoor coaches. They staged this in order
for that to happen. I don'tthink the league was happy with where the
court was, which was nowhere nearany of the convention action. It was

(01:28:35):
around the corner down the way froma behind the scenes area. There was
no broadcast, for what it's worth, and the soccers wound up playing I
see s Barber mentioning it in thechat like they wound up playing a few
too many regulars. On Thursday.Charlie played to Void, played, Sean

(01:29:00):
Callahan played, and then he gothurt. On Sunday. You know,
a few guys, a few guysplayed in that match more than we'd like.
Absolutely, Susan. Absolutely, butremember there's no soccers too. Absolutely,
And because there's no soccers too, there just isn't that entire second team

(01:29:25):
of players that San Diego can conjureup and run out on a floor to
play footsal They literally didn't have themanpower to just you know, unless they
wanted to put like a seven manteam or an eight man team out there.
So Xavier played. You know, some guys that are on this club
played, and then those players woundup playing three games in four days over

(01:29:50):
the course of the weekend, andyou know, some of those players really
struggled on Sunday. To be sure, I really don't want to say that
much more about this. This wasan m ASL deal all the way through.
And you know, kudos to thesoccers and strikers organizations. Empire did
a lot of the setup on this, much more than San Diego did,

(01:30:12):
so big ups to the Empire crew. You know, Philly and the Panda
were there. You know, alot of the kind of infrastructure Empire was
in charge of getting that taken careof. Jimmy Nordberg doing a lot of
work there for Empire to make sureit was all organized. Shann Bowers for
San Diego doing a lot of workto make sure it was all organized.
Our front office was there, sellingmerch. You know, we were there
doing social media and whatnot. Itwas a big endeavor for everyone for a

(01:30:35):
thing that was in a back roomthat you know, tree falls in the
forest type situation. But if theleague was happy with it, good.
I really hope the Soccers don't playin the next one of these. I
hope it's somebody else. Entirely. The best thing that came out of it

(01:30:56):
was this kid wants Salazar. Youknow. Salazar was the third round pick
of the Soccers a point Loman NazareneUniversity in the MASL College Draft. Came
previously from cal State San Marcos, but prior to that he was a Columbiano.
He was playing on the streets ofColumbia until he moved to the US
when he was sixteen. And Salazarscored a hat trick in the futsal match

(01:31:16):
and then got the chance to goup to Dakoma and he scored a goal
in his first shift for the SanDiego Soccers in an indoor match. So
the thing I really like about SalazarTONI he's twenty four, he's six'
two, he's cut, and he'sleft footed, and he's got a scorer's
mentality, and you add all thosethings up and you've got a player that
might be able to make some damageon the offensive side of the floor for

(01:31:40):
the San Diego Soccers. Now,what does he know about defense? Nothing.
He's an outdoor forward that's just comeindoors, So what does he know
about defense? He knows nothing aboutdefense, and it will take a little
while for him to learn. Butif they could spot him in the lineup
in various ways, Tony, Iam really excited about the potential of one

(01:32:03):
Salazar. Yeah, And I wascatching up with him before the match on
Sunday, just congratulating him on comingin the hat trick and obviously getting his
first I may sell goal. Andhe's incredibly excited to be playing here,
and you know, being a pL and U alum, He's like I'm
at but he has that Colombian accent, like it caught me off card like,
hey, I called hi Juanito too. It was like it's that kinship

(01:32:26):
already. I've been like, heyyou, Juanito, look a mustas and
and even before we left he sawme again and said said goodbyes. But
really, really cool kid and reallya possibility for a good special player when
it comes on the offensive side ofthings, especially to throw in when things
might not be working. Uh withthe regularly scheduled programs. Maybe this year's

(01:32:47):
irving Mohika in a breakout sense away, that's a great call. And
by the way, every Mohica isstarting for the Monterey Flash next day.
You smile Rojo and Pio Ruiz. And if you want to know why Mona
ray so good, it's not justthat they got a whole, you know,
sheath of players from Chihuahua. Theygot three very important players from San

(01:33:10):
Diego as well critical depth players fromSan Diego. The Texas match has been
rescheduled the January seventh watermin match. We mentioned it on the broadcast. I
got a little note from Sean afterwardslike this isn't official, don't say it.
Well, then the next day itwas official. So there I am
out there spilling beans once again, spilling tea. But it is official.

(01:33:31):
Soccers and Outlaws will play Tuesday,February thirteenth. So downside the Soccers and
Outlaws, this is an important series. Obviously, Texas is right now with
three extra matches played, one pointahead of San Diego in the standings.
Soccers won all six of these points, and they're going to play a Tuesday

(01:33:54):
night and a Thursday night in thesame week, the only two midweek games
now for San Diego on the WHOhome schedule seven thirty on a school night,
seven thirty on a work night.I mean, these are going to
be two small crowds February fifteenth. We've got the three dollars bud Light Night,
We've got free parking we're trying. We've got the new kits that will
be by the way, we're revealingin two shows next I think next week

(01:34:16):
we'll do it. Next week,we reveal those next week on Soccer's Overtime.
You'll you'll get to see that onSoccer's Overtime in a week and start
to get hyped and you will gethyped for those kids on February fifteenth.
But question on AA toy asks,is the media game getting rescheduled? Yes,
the media game is getting rescheduled.I talked to Sean this afternoon and

(01:34:36):
he's like, Okay, well, right now we've got media game scheduled for
February thirteenth, and I said,we might want to change that. Yeah,
because there's a lot of media membersthat won't be able to be there
on a Tuesday night exactly. SoI'm angling for the media game to move
to March, to either March first, March third, or March tenth.

(01:34:57):
March first would be Star Wars Night. Oh, and I know that would
make Travis Peterson very upset because theSpinning Lightsaber exhibition that we've done in the
past might might not be available andinstead the media game. But I kind
of think I think Star Wars Nightwould be a really cool night to do
this a Friday night, you know, big crowd, festive atmosphere. Tony

(01:35:20):
approves. Yeah, March third,March tenth also possibility, so stay tuned
for that one. But we're lookingat we're looking at putting the media game
on a day that's not a Tuesdaynight reschedule. I mean, it's just
I'd kind of rather take the bulleton a Tuesday night and then get to

(01:35:43):
a chance to maybe build a biggercrowd for the media game. So that's
the reschedule. Oh there's a gametomorrow, Tony. Oh, Yeah,
yeah, yeah, there's a gameSoccer's an Empire Tomorrow night, Ontario Arena,
seven oh five pm on m aslUnderscore Soccer, Philly and the Doc

(01:36:08):
and the Panda on the call. You know, big big ups, big
big ups to what's going on withthe Ontario broadcast. I think it's great
Empire broadcasts, all right, youstill physically in the city of Ontario.
Empire isn't a thing, it's notan actual place. So much great work,
my guy, Mike Sapada. They'reputting up great graphics. They got

(01:36:30):
the Spanish language broadcasters now from BamboStrikers. They're adding Laco Toura d Espanol
into the broadcast. They're really doinga great job. They're well prepared.
That broadcast has just gone up,up up each of the last three years.
I'm just really, really really impressed. You know, Philly is now
doing ESPN Plus games for like UCRiverside. He's taking a big step up.

(01:36:55):
The Doc is just one of thegreat gentlemen and ambassadors of the sport,
ever positive, ever flowing with greatinformation. Panda, it's just really
cool, it's really really cool.I'm psyched to see good broadcasts. I'm
psyched to see people who are investedin the growth of this league, and
all three of those folks are deeplyinvested in the growth of this league.
And I know that Empire in SanDiego, you know, like a regional

(01:37:16):
rivalry and a couple of years agoYo Championship DOUN and blah blah blah,
and like you know, Empire gettinga little big in their breeches. But
these guys are are great. Iroot for them, I cheer for them,
I support all of their success, and I really think they've found their
legs as a broadcast. Yeah,no, it's really fun. I was.

(01:37:36):
I caught myself not being able towatch their last game, but just
being able to listen to the match. That's how you can really tell the
quality of a broadcast team is justbeing able to be drawn in. And
you know, I love myself someAM radio, you know, broadcast for
any sport, and if they canbring you in in that audio audio sense,

(01:37:57):
it's it's incredibly immersive. Then it'sa skill, and that's something that
you know, I strive to eventhink to be impossible if I can do
it. But you're one of thosealso that does that too. You paint
a picture. You guys do sucha great job. And honestly, the
strengthened commentaries on the West coast.I'll just say that much. I can't
disagree with any of that. Idon't think there's a lot to break down

(01:38:20):
for this Empire match. To me, this match is about the San Diego
soccers. Yeah, it's about howthis club reacts to losing and to the
way they lost. You know, there's there's one train of thought, and
I see Ky Ribbert in the chatsaying it, I feel sorry for Empire
and angry soccers team after a loss. If the soccers come in angry,

(01:38:44):
but forget about it, forget aboutit. Yeah, the soccers come in
sad or mopi or finger pointing orwith any dissension at all. That's how
you open the door for a fabyOn or a Ponce or a Stintson to

(01:39:05):
put a couple in behind you,to maybe take a lead, to maybe
get the crowd into it, togive the underdog an opportunity. I believe
the soccers on a not very goodday will beat Empire, even on the
road. I just don't think theStrikers are in a position right now.
As you saw, we did thetier list. You know, there's two

(01:39:27):
tiers in between the two clubs. So I see this as a soccers win
Tony. If it wasn't, Ithink it would be a major major statement
as to the psyche of the SanDiego soccers and how one loss became multiple
losses as a result, and itwould be a lot more about what Chihuahua
did to them on Sunday. It'sthis is really a check for me in

(01:39:53):
terms of from a coaching staff toa captainship leadership. Where is your mind?
Where is your ho art? Areyou connected as a unit? Are
you together? If the soccers aretogether, they're gonna wamp Empire. If
it's a close game, even aSan Diego win, but a very close
game. I think you can absolutelyfairly leave Toyota Arena saying, Okay,

(01:40:16):
something's up right now, there's somethingthat needs to be fixed with San Diego
before they get into some really toughroad matches at the beginning of February.
Yeah, I agree with that.A gut check is what this matches,
and really testing the metal of whois on this team and if you can
handle it here or take care ofit here, even if there was an
issue, you can get to takecare of it now before it starts festering

(01:40:40):
and becomes a bigger issue when thelights are brighter into the playoffs and then
you know, have that situation, then just get out of hand. Just
take care of it now. Ilike what common right here is just like
a business approach. Just come inand just take care of it. Let's
go and another one. Let's goback to a regularly scheduled sand and egals

(01:41:00):
soccer's way of playing. And that'schampionship mentality, which you know it might
have taken a little bit of ahit, but the heart of the champions
always there. And is this teamexactly that we'll see. Callen asked if
we've won a road match by morethan a goal this season. Yes,
the first match at Tacoma, Ithink they won either nine to six or
nine to seven. It was aneight to seven win in Dallas, and

(01:41:24):
it was obviously a one goal winup in Tacoma. Again, but soccer's
been really good in Ontario. Obviously, Ontario murdered them last year ten to
four with Tayu and Costa. Youknow, I think Tayo had four goals
and Coasta had six points. Andthose guys aren't there, so you know,
Fabian's there. Fabian is doing great. Fabian doing tremendous five games.

(01:41:47):
I think seventeen points. Like he'skicking ass and that's great. He's not
defending. I don't think Marco Fabian. You can tell me, Tony.
I don't think he's known for hisyou know, world class defending, but
you know, impressive and good forEmpire, you know, good for Fabian.
Poonce played that first game, hedidn't play the last game. I

(01:42:09):
don't know what the deal is withPonse down there, but we'll see seven
oh five tomorrow. Will the soccerscome out and run the show and win
eight two or eleven to three oryou know, twelve to four or something
like that. I'd say the majorityof outcomes fall into that bucket, But

(01:42:30):
I think there's still a goodly numberof results in another bucket of the soccers
still coming out feeling a hangover fromthe Chihuahua game, maybe still feeling disconnected
as a team again. Two straightmatches, scoreless in the first quarter,
scoreless in the third quarter. Soscore goal in the first quarter tomorrow.
That should be goal number one forthe San Diego Suckers. Is get goal

(01:42:53):
number one in quarter number one.If you do that, I think you're
going to be off to the races. Yeah, and I think again,
this is a perfect opportunity to reallytake that approach of let's put that in
the back, know that it's possibleto be in that situation, be on
a losing front, and now thatyou kind of have that, use that
as fuel as almost fear of neverwanting to go back there adult or even

(01:43:15):
close to it. So let's belethal, let's take care of business,
Let's do things as we know howto do it. And that's it for
this episode of Soccer's over time alittle bit longer because we had two matches,
but more importantly a loss to discuss. So dropping in the rankings,

(01:43:41):
I love that. What's you know? Or one city is eating in the
second quarter. Let me channel Wattleone. Maybe they did little tiny curse

(01:44:04):
on the floor. Will they possiblyeven lose one game and they're like,
we'll lose the game today, holdmy beer. Maybe that will happen.
