play because they've gotten the best outof the soccers the last couple of times.

it right now. To those listeningon podcasts, we say, how are
you? Hope the ear drums areworking well, Hope everything is coming through
loud and clear. Greatly appreciated foreveryone to be here tonight, All right,
Tony Soccer's Texas. Two games withoutBoris Pardoe, without Charlie Gonzalez,

(04:00):
another game without Gabriel Costa. Plentyof things to chew upon, plenty of
possible wiggles, and we got twentytwo minutes till we want to welcome the
cap on. So let's get started. With the San Diego Soccers and the
Texas Outlaws from Mesquite Arena. Boy, the first thing I would say before
anything else, what an improvement withthe game broadcast by Texas this year to

(04:25):
last year. My friend just reallysharp all the way from Joe Little and
friend on the mic to the cameraangles, the brightness of everything. I
just thought this was a big,big improvement for the league, absolutely,
and you'd love to see it.The more people that tune into these games,
the more they can really capture somebodywho wants to enjoy this game.
It's not granny, it's not You'renot really messing around with the antenna if

(04:47):
that's even a thing anymore online withTwitch. But kudos to everybody down in
Texas with the formerly known Mesquite Outlawsnow Podle Outlaws now. Also, the
field much flatter, and I heardthis from multiple people there that they fixed
the field, that we called itthe lumpy bumpy field last year, a
much cleaner role. Unfortunately for XavierSnaire Williams. The roles cleaned for Luis

(05:11):
Morales as well. But this wasreally a match of answers for San Diego
Tony. It wasn't a match ofstatements as much as it was answers.
Every time Texas scored until the fourthquarter. The soccers didn't just score,
they scored within a minute of gameaction. And here's the very first example
of that with the double header goalon the Salazar assist Wallascora walaheader for Ta

(05:34):
Void Morgan. I think that's aWalla wallascorer, right. He gets the
wallascorer Altopasse off himself of great reactionplay there with the header. Fantastic by
Morgan. Xavier Snare Williams of coursein net for the Soccers and challenged throughout
the match against Texas. He wasin the shooting gallery many times, coming

(05:57):
up with some great save, somegreat shots stops along the way, very
calm and composed in his keepers areaas well. Here's just a beauty child's
laying it off to Sarah who allof a sudden has found the offensive touched
the last three matches. Tony No, absolutely, and that's something that I'm
really excited to hear from copy ofthe copy. Donas's perspective is what's changing,

(06:23):
what's that mentality going into it forhimself now being on the road with
the team as well, is hegetting that consistency that he needs in order
to be more prolific on attack.Perfectly placed shot by the talented Sebastian Mendez
for two to two. There's justno question that the top three playmakers for
the Outlaws are all legit. Moralesis a natural goal scorer. Mendez is

(06:46):
sneaky and it's got a very accurateshot or tease. We know for the
long shots, for the toughness onhis team, but then right back to
its set piece magic. It's somethingto have that left foot out there on
the set pieces. I'm really enjoyingthe Craig Chiles and Drew Ruggles connection on
those set pieces as you're mentioning, and it seems like every game you get
at least one of these looks, and more than likely they go in for

(07:08):
Ruggles. Yeah, Drew is justsuch a savvy ad to this club.
He doesn't force his spot in theteam, but when he gets his spot,
he takes advantage of it. Niceplay by Jorge de Leion there.
But the soccers came to block shotsin this match. They had Pee Wee
with five blocks, cardon Is Pinofour blocks each. A lot of block

(07:30):
shots for San Diego defense. Showingup early and often in this match.
I have to give props to myman X and he's really been absolutely stepping
up, and especially in these roadmatches where you know it's difficult. As
we see Craig Chiles once again gettinghimself a point there. X has been
an literal X factor here and Ithink he's getting the recognition he deserves around

(07:51):
the league. Lovely little back heeledby Pee Wee, who again stepping up,
playing better and better in each ofthe last couple of games, just
doing child's things there to put thesoccers up by a pair. Texas is
going to try and answer back here, but again ball falling kindly for San
Diego multiple times through and the socceris doing a great job of seeing X

(08:15):
man on the back, seeing shots, getting an opportunity, taking advantage.
Soccers get a power play late andI got the call from Craig Chiles after
the match Tony to say, hey, take that goal away from me.
I didn't touch it. I didn'ttouch this ball. What I did was
I scared the goalkeeper and froze him. So Coosta swings it. Fake kick

(08:39):
of the ball by Craig Chiles swingsthe leg as the ball goes through Poio
freezes, thinks it's going to comeoff of Craig. He seems to tweak
himself in doing so, But that'sa phantom assist lower the socckers captain.
No, it's coming from everywhere. He's really getting it done in every single
way. Even without the ball,he's contributing into the goal scoring sheets.

(09:03):
You know, right about to thispoint in the game action, I thought
this was one of the most completematches of the year for the soccers.
Now they did go take a penaltyand that was lovely from the ex soccer
Andy Reyes to get it right tothe head of Vinnie dantas Uh for five
to three at that point. Butagain, prior to the penalty, I
was like, Wow, this thisteam is just they're doing it all.

(09:26):
They've got it locked in. Thisis such a clinical match. But something
happened around this point halfway through thethird quarter where it just felt like the
ball never came back to the soccerstoe until there was like twenty five seconds
left. That just the rest ofthe quarter, and obviously it's not literally
true. Here's the final goal, that's the game winner, that's the one

(09:46):
we talk about answers. That wasthe last answer for San Diego. Five
to three became six to three, and I guess we got to say it.
Man, So good to have Leonardode Olvera back on the floor and
take it to the sockers. Andyou know, this team, while depleted,
also really answered the call the bellhere. Good job on both teams
entertaining action for the hemisl in general, Soccer's up three and starting to bunker

(10:11):
in to defend. And somehow oncethat movement and that momentum started and boil,
how about a great reaction there Itjust didn't stop. And the rest
of this highlight reel you're going tosee is the ball on the team in
White's toe, the Soccers defending blockingshots and having Xavier Snaire Williams block shots.

(10:33):
Not a penalty, definitely a flopon that particular play reviewed, checked
out and determined to be as such. And the Soccers come this close to
getting seven to three on their side. But you know, when you have
a good team and you just givethem momentum and there you see it.
That was Reys and you know, hey, look we love Andy very much.

(10:58):
You take one more look here, try kind of wall pass to himself,
but Xavier stops short of him, completely stops short of and Andy did
a simulated tumble right there. Nowhere's a screen shot by Mendez Pino trying
to block the shot. Actually justscreen Xavier off the play for six to
four. And again, this iswhere momentum starts to change in this match,

(11:20):
Tony No, and that's where thesoccers really need to make sure that
they are also at their best. You can play three quarters, but this
game is one in the fourth quarterand at the end of that at the
end of that time, that reallydecides who the true top of the top
championship quality teams are. And Ithink the Soccers are really cleaning things up
even with this limited squad. Six' five wall pass finds its way inside.

(11:48):
Morales takes care of business here. Now look, that's, you know,
really well done. He's a rightfooter. He's bringing it down with
the left with his thigh, youknow, and then drops right to the
toe. Excellent work by Luis Morales. But now this is the point where
you have to start thinking as asoccers fan, uh oh, can we

(12:09):
get some possession? Can we getthe ball on our foot once again?
And really the answer is no.It's just NonStop pressure, non stop defending
chances, miss chances for Texas tillyou get to hear and a pee wee
steal and a foul and right then, okay, twenty six seconds left,
we're gonna get a free kick. Now I feel great about what's about to

(12:33):
happen. Here. Ball goes intoX's hands, just a real big mistake
by Texas just to kind of bootit blind to the crease. He throws
it away and there you go.The game is over. Six to five.
Soccers hold off, Texas get allthree points, one last shot here
to ramp up the match, butthe soccers essentially with that win, Tony

(12:56):
end the discussion of the Western vision, you know, you really look at
it. And of course, therest of the weekend's results fall with Texas
losing emphatically to Chihuaua at home sixto one. And now you look in
San Diego sitting even at ten andone. Before this, you know the

(13:16):
weekend was over, but now elevenand one, thirty two points, Texas
nine to five and one nine andsix, basically twenty seven points but three
more matches played than San Diego, and even going down to Chihuahua eighteen points
in the soccers with only one morematch played a fourteen point lead in the

(13:37):
standings, it's going to be nighupon impossible for a club to catch up
to San Diego. The soccers haveone loss, they could lose three more
games and not even be in anydanger of losing the top of the Western
table. Yeah, that's the definiteideal position that the soccers want to find
themselves as clear of the division asearly as you can, and you can

(14:01):
really start nursing yourself to full healthand full strength for these games that are
going to be really mattering at theend. Obviously, you have tough games.
You want to win every single matchupthat you have, especially coming up
one very important one at corners quatAreena against Shihuahua. But at the end
of the day, that's a calm, a calmness that has to come over
the squad overall of Okay, wetook care of business where we had to

(14:22):
take care of business. Now wecan go ahead and either keep going in
the same direction or start really adjustingand trying things out in a way where
there can be there are minimal consequenceas far as those standings go. I
would hope that the soccers have learnedsomething after this weekend, and we've got

(14:45):
a shorter highlight reel from Dallas toplay both because the sidekicks had just endless
technical issues in the third quarter andin the second half and just couldn't basically
keep their broadcast in the air,and then also apparently didn't have an archived
version to upload our John Green justsent us something a couple of minutes before

(15:09):
the game. In terms of whatDallas had sent, that reel is really
long, though. It's like elevenor twelve minutes long for a game that
was a seven goal game. EddieDruhiel here, let me send you this
link. Tony Allen right there, yep, that's the one. Let's get
it started perfect. These is justsome of the highlights. Beautiful back he'll
pass by Leo, talk about ahockey assist. Leo taking it from the

(15:33):
wall to Serda who's again surging offensively, over to Craig Giles who growing a
mustache equals Wow, what a justprescient play. This guy's got eyes in
the back of his head. Leonardoda a ly Vera, that's really just
you talk about ring awareness sometimes ina squared circle. This is just overall

(15:54):
field awareness and just having that sixthsense of where somebody's supposed to be and
getting that pall where it needs tobe to have a goal. And then
I love this goal, that secondheader goal for Craig Chiles. First one
got missed when they took a breakor they're I don't know. Their broadcast

(16:15):
just kept breaking down over the courseof the of the evening. But child's
just following his own head. Thisis a basketball player following his misshot and
coming in for the dunk. Beautifulstuff. Soccer's up five to three.
Of course they're going to run awayand hide in this game, but here's
such a pretty play nutmeg to avoidjust destroying worlds, taking Kingtana's soul and

(16:44):
having it escape in between his legswith that beautiful nutmeg play for six'
three. That really did feel likekind of the the stanky exclamation point on
the back of this first half forthe San Diego Soccers. Yeah, the
playground. As a kid, yousee that nutmeg and the chorus of ooh

(17:06):
happens from then on and and youjust have to finish the play. And
he did exactly that I were oneof my favorite goals this season. Tavoi
really strong. Two goals, twoassists in this game. You saw the
goals, the assists. That's oneof the two, but they were both
the exact same play. Give themthe ball with back to basket, so
to speak, have a run forthe one to two of the guy who

(17:26):
gave him the ball. This timeit was Charlie. Previously it was Brandon.
But the play is simple and yetKeystone coppying it defensively. Is Dallas
there running into one another to freeup Charlie for the goal. Here's the
soccer's third short handed goal of theyear, tied with Utica for the league
lead. Boy, it's nice tosee Christian shoot and hit the net,

(17:47):
Tony. I hope that's a signof things to come. Yeah, we've
been We've been pointing out every timehe does score and just have that contribution
towards the end of the games hereat times, but it doesn't matter when
that boost of confidence. It mattersfor with Theatras at the end of the
season and as he's going through itwhere he's gonna be able to contribute a
little bit more. And I reallyhope this is just the beginning of what

(18:10):
we're to see in that uniform forwith theiras. And here was just one
other look. You can see thechild's header goal there, his first one,
very nice, the first header, the second header. Dude's got a
head on his shoulders. There's noquestion about it. Soccer's win that one
ten to three, very routine match. We love to see it. We've

(18:33):
talked about it before. We've chidedthem for coming into Dallas with minimal effort,
coming into Dallas with that low intensityfeeling of eh, you know we're
gonna win. Let's figure it out. And always Dallas at least will give
him a little bit of a game. And in this time it was one
quarter. You know, for aquarter they were kind of hanging in there
with San Diego. But once thefloodgates open, forget it. Flooding occurs.

(18:59):
It's time for a fact exuation, and the sidekicks were evacuated from any
dream of winning this one. They'velost eleven in a row. Soccers have
beaten them every game since twenty thirteen. Haven't lost in eleven years to the
Dallas sidekicks. It's okay, good, okay, Yeah, definlaeyly good record,
clean cut. I like this resultafter another arduous road stand that is

(19:25):
almost done, almost done. Butlet's let's keep that for a little bit
later, because I'm gidding. I'mat Ponts Canal. He's fired up for
Soccers and Savage coming up on Fridaynight again. If there's something that the
soccers can take away from this weekend, I would like to hope that it

(19:45):
is a confidence that Xavier Snaire Williamscan handle the net for the San Diego
Soccers. In no way is thata knock on our veteran leader Boris Parto.
It's his net. But the Soccershave played the last two seasons as
if they didn't have a backup keeper. They've played where Boris starts every game,
Boris starts, back to backs, rest for a quarter here or there.

(20:10):
There is no reason a thirty nineyear old has to be put through
the ringer like that. When you'vegot a young man behind you, who
is strong, who is gaining inconfidence, who is an excellent shot stopper.
He's doing the job stopping the shotsfor San Diego. He was put
against a very talented offensive team inTexas on their home floor, came away

(20:33):
with the victory. Then in alow intensity game like Dallas still no lapses,
comes away with just three goals allowed. Rock rock solid. And I
hope this informs Phil Silvaggio's decision makingthe remainder of the year, because there's
just no reason not to alternate keeperswhen you have two games in a weekend,
there's no reason not to take advantageof the players you have on your

(20:57):
roster, so that in a situationlike we had the previous weekend, Tony,
you don't see a game where Borisstarts, plays three quarters, sits
up, comes back the next dayafter flying over two state lines. It's
so tired and angry he winds upgetting kicked out of the game. He
could have been fresh for that Tacomagame, sent the day before, and

(21:18):
just given the net to Xavier againstSaint Louis. That's the kind of thing
that I would hope would become routinenow for San Diego going forward, and
again it's very much part of thatpreparation that Xavier has undergone before the season.
Mentioned a couple of times seeing himwith soccers too and seeing how difficult

(21:40):
that was. In a not sopositive season for the second team here in
the MISL two for the Soccers. But I think the improvements and adjustments have
been incredibly exponential with the way thathe's carrying himself on that field. He's
not just a replacement goalkeeper, He'sthe goalkeeper. You're the lead leader and

(22:00):
general of the defense. Yeah, you have some great players with Pino and
Goda the nas, But at theend of the day, and this was
always something that was impressed on me, is that you as a goalkeeper are
the only person that sees the entirefield. So you have a job to
be able to direct the runs andto really be able to pick up on
the patterns. Where Texas Outlaws, for example, is a fantastic offensive team.

(22:22):
They have three lethal, lethal attackersthat can hurt you in many ways,
and in many ways that they did, but x really has been stepping
up, even at the point whereEast Last got some minutes out there as
well, the third goalkeeper on theroster for the Sockers. But I think,
yeah, look, if Boris Pardowould like and is able to also

(22:44):
kind of rest his body get readyfor those those times, those games that
we really essentially need him. Ifthere's points in the time, in the
day and in the season where Xcan get in there. It's not just
is he gonna go ahead and beable to do this, or are you
gonna have to have Boris still warmingup just in case it gets out of
hand. I'm confident with accessibility toreally carry this team through not just one

(23:07):
two quarters, just an entire game, and really be able to have the
soccers play San Diego's soccer style andfor philosophy throughout. So congratulations again to
X. He's been working incredibly hardand he did the man. The kid
deserves it to be honest. Hey, trust is earned, and you know,
just seeing a couple of things inthe chat, I want to be
clear, I'm not suggesting in anyway that there is a battle in net

(23:32):
for the starting job. It's Boris'sjob. He is the leader of this
team. You know, these twoguys are just at different places in their
career. Boris is toward the endof his career. I'm not saying he's
at the end of his career. That's up to Boris to decide how much
more his body wants to take.Obviously, he is still one of the
best keepers in the MASL. Obviouslyhe is still somebody who knows more about

(23:57):
the sport than Xavier could possibly know. At this point. You know,
it's that old classic. He's forgottenmore than you know. You know,
that's that's where you are when you'vehad the level of intense training and experience
that Boris Pardo has had. WhatI'm saying is very simple. This is

(24:18):
a watershed moment for Xavier in termsof installing confidence in the coaching staff,
directly installing confidence that they don't haveto panic if Boris were to get hurt
and say, oh what veteran goalkeeper? Can we go scramble and find who
could we trade for? What dowe have to do? What do we
know? Xavier's got it. Man, it's his third year. You learn

(24:41):
over time. He's a sponge. He's been taking things in and now the
soccers have a great situation. Theyhave two good goalkeepers. That's what you
want. Yeah, it's a perfect, perfect situation. If you're a philosophagio
excuse me, it's quite all right, man, got you all choked up
we start talking goalkeepers? Yeah, man, it's that position. It really

(25:06):
is true. Like seeing how younghe is too, Like look at look
at the age difference, and Isaw the comment here of like, yeah,
well, you know he's more athletic, He's more this than Boris.
It's a different type of athleticism. It's a different archetype of goalkeeper all together,
where you know you have the restthat's springing in the step of x

(25:26):
where you know that comes with theyouth, that comes with his style,
that comes with practicing the beach soccergoalkeeping position, because you need that extra
strength to push off of the sandand battle against five times ex gravity it
seems. But those are the thingsthat really contribute to the goalkeeping style that
makes these two individuals different. Butoverall, again it's that soccer's philosophy that

(25:51):
just is is impregnated in every player. It brings the best out of the
players, and it's bringing the bestout of Exis play style so far.
Also, guys, Friday hasn't happenedyet. All the folks getting froggy in
the chat in terms of changing andmaybe he's playing himself onto a different team
or all of these other things. No, Xavier Snare Williams is sticking around,

(26:15):
the Pride of Ocean Side is stickingaround for the club. That's moving
to Oceanside next year. I wouldn'tworry about that one. Bet. He
is a local kid. He's somebodywho's going to be sticking around with the
soccers for a long time. Iyou know, I just think it's funny
we start talking about that, andit's just like a quarterback you start talking
about the goal. Everyone's like,oh, well, him or him?

(26:36):
You know this or that controversy.Do we have a battle here? Like
no, this is great news becauseI'm here to tell you, you know,
before we welcome Craig on that therewere times in the past where I
know that from an organizational standpoint,it was like, hey, Boris is
our keeper, and if anything happened, we'll figure it out. I don't

(27:00):
know what we're gonna do. Let'shope it doesn't happen. And then it
didn't happen. You know, hestarted every game but one, every game
but two the last couple of years. Now you've actually got two guys you
can rely upon, you can beexcited about and to Friday. You know,
a year ago, Tony, ifit was x in net soccer's going

(27:23):
to chihuaba. I think a lotof people just be like Okay, well
all right, but I don't thinkanybody feels that way anymore. No,
and again we'll see what this nextmatchup comes the way of X and that's
gonna be a real test as well. So hoping for the best. He's
been stepping up so far. Hopefullythat continues. Is the Captain standing by

(27:45):
sir as a ces yet the NEMOcopy of the cup? You doneis?
Let's welcome in our special guest. It is trip to Mexico week. It's
time to bring the Captain back onthe show. Last time he was on
Soccer's were heading two chihuahua. Thewagons are circled again. The mustache is
in full effect. Craig Childs ishere on Soccer's overtime. How are you,

(28:07):
Casey good? What's up? Guys? Thank you for having me?
Of course, it's our pleasure. We're so thankful for you. Everybody.
Okay, with the monsoonal moisture, the atmospheric river. Your house wasn't destroyed
by a tornado today, was it? Nope? Nope. I think everybody's
doing well. You know, mostof the guys and Peter's are up on

(28:27):
the top of the hill, sothe water's running down outstanding well. Mustasher's
back. Craig is back on Soccer'sovertime. Let's talk about the ball club.
This was a big road trip forthe team, Craig, going through
Texas, going through Dallas, comingoff of the Tacoma game, and all

(28:48):
of the heightened emotions around it,all the discussion, how do you feel
the club did in terms of respondingemotionally? You know, honestly, it
could have gone a lot different. You know, I think everybody knows the
intensity in which we played Mesquite lastyear, and there was the bust up
at the end of the game anda multi game suspension for some players,
and so you know, we knewthat game against Seattle was a shit show,

(29:12):
quite frankly, and we needed tohave a really professional performance in Mesquite
and get the job done. Andso I think it shows. I know
it got tight there at the end, but I think for the most part,
we managed that game pretty well againsta really good Mesquite team on a
difficult field. You know, they'vegot a really good home field advantage there,

(29:32):
and you know, I was proudof the soccer's performance on that trip,
and I think, you know,we kept our head and we stick
to the game plan and got thewin. Absolutely, And as you're mentioning
Texas, obviously this was a statementwin. And you heard us a little
bit here talking about X as wellas no Boris, no Childlie and still

(29:55):
being able to manage to hold offa powerful Texas side. What's the that
kind of headspace and how was thatpossible at this point where people were honestly
doubting that this was even a possibilityof a great soccer's victory. Yeah,
honestly, you know, I thinkover the past few years, we've proven

(30:15):
that a couple of players can kindof float in and out of the lineup
in you know, our game planand our structure and style of play is
going to kind of maintain status quo. And so yeah, bum did not
have Charlie obviously having an unbelievable yearin Boris as well, but nothing changed,
right, It was it was wejust got to stick to the game

(30:36):
plan. Everybody should know their roleor their new role, and you kind
of put your head down and youwork hard. You know. We were
just talking before you came on,Craig about the performance of X over the
weekend and saying that if nothing elseI would imagine the coaching staff leadership walks
away from a weekend like this saying, hey, well, we know now
that there's no need to panic interms of if something happens, if there's

(30:59):
an you know, just whatever, some untoward event, that you've got two
goalkeepers that you can ride with onthe road and win big games. Yeah,
you know, honestly, we're proudof x in his performance, you
know. And and I think weall know from watching him train week in
and week out that he could bein a starting position on an m ASL
team probably, you know, acrossthis league. But he's getting mentored by

(31:23):
Boris in a really high end waywhere you know, it takes a few
years to really gain that understanding, and I think we're seeing the fruits of
that labor this year, you know. And so as x is doing well,
I know Boris is supporting him,and you know, Boris is a
big part of Xavier's consistency and performancesas of late. And you know,

(31:48):
as a team, we know, whether it's Bors or Xavier in the net,
we feel confident in neither of them, and we're prepared to go to
battle with both of them. Ilove that. And as we're seeing the
development of acts and some of theplayers. We're also seeing the development of
bonds, the development of i say, in the corporate world, team building.
Some of the outings that we're beingseeing on social media with some laser

(32:09):
tag, well, what's this roadtrip been like for the team and how's
that brought the team and squad together? You know, this was the first
road trip that wasn't you know, gung ho from from the airplane to the
field, to the airplane to home. And so candidly, we've got a
lot of new pieces in the teamand we need to make sure that we

(32:30):
bring it all together by the endof the season. And you know,
as a player, you can practice, you know, multiple times a week,
and you can gain skills and youcan get better in certain situations.
But when it's all said and done, if you're not prepared to fight for
the players around you, then noneof it matters. And you know,
not a knock on Kansas City, but I think you can see I think

(32:51):
Kansas City needs a little less soccerpractice and a little more team bonding and
team outages, because I think thatpart of the game is overlooked, you
know, and so getting out thereand playing laser tag together and messing with
each other in the go karts.Granted, I think I won by three
and a half seconds if you lookedat the score, I smashed everybody.
But you know, we're just allhaving fun, enjoying ourselves, and you

(33:14):
know it. It was actually agreat experience, and truthfully, I think
we all came back from that roadtrip a little closer. We got the
two wins and the job done, and we got to enjoy ourselves as well.
And I don't think it gets betterthan that. You know, you
guys have really grabbed a stronghold onthe top of the MASL Western Division.
The result that's upcoming Friday isn't reallygoing to one way or another alter that

(33:38):
you guys are really on pace tobe first in the West if nothing else.
But I imagine it has to begiven that Chiwuaba came into your house,
held you guys to almost to shutout, beat you pretty handily on
your home floor to end the team'shome winning streak of twenty five matches.
I imagine that going down to CornersportArena, a place that you have had

(34:00):
success in the regular season in yearspast, is something that weighs on all
of your guys' minds. Yeah, you know that that was a tough loss,
and I think we can all lookat the intangibles or excuses, you
know, but the point is we'regoing to go down into Mexico and we're
going to fight for a win.We know it's not going to be easy.

(34:20):
Janoni has set his team up verydefensive minded, I think in the
last X amount of games since he'sgot in and so I'm anticipating this being
a defensive duel and quite frankly,a dog fight. And so you know
we're going to travel in there,We're going to get ourselves ready for war.
And and you know, it's twoteams that have nothing but respect for
each other, to really quality groupsof soccer players that are intertwined off in

(34:45):
off season and for years, andso there's nothing but respect between US and
Chihuahua, and and we know they'regoing to give it everything they got and
we intend on doing the same.Yeah, looking looking forward to that barn
Burner match. And as you mentioned, it's a team that's being built defensively,
and this Chihuahua team is it adifferent approach preparing for them just because

(35:07):
this chess match has now turned differentlyin terms of having to go in and
you know, it's a different Chihuahuafrom what we saw at the beginning of
the season. How is that preparationprocess happening. Yeah, you know,
honestly, as you prepare for thegame, you can look at their players.
They have quality across the board, and I don't think there's any exact

(35:29):
preparation you can do to navigate throughwho might play. Might be towbar,
it might be planked as But Ithink what we can do is get ourselves
prepared for the size of the field, make sure we're sharp on long throws,
make sure we're sharp on picking upballs in the offensive end and second
second balls and stuff like that. And so we're gonna have a structure and
a game plan that we need totake care of in Chihuahua. We know

(35:51):
it's a little bit of a uniquefield and a unique atmosphere, but we
kind of relish that that environment alittle bit. And so you know,
they're going to be really good playersin Chihuahua that haven't quite established themselves in
the m ASL and we're kind ofseeing that and they're a little bit undercover,
but we know Kanyees and Puentez andthat whole crew is quality up and

(36:13):
down, and so we're prepared tomark all those players and try to limit
them on the field. But Ithink when it's all said and done,
we just have to make sure we'resharp on our free kicks, power plays,
long throws, are low pressure defenseand candidly. When we're prepared to
fight in battle and put our bodyon the line and get bodies behind the

(36:34):
ball, we're really difficult team tobeat. And so what we're not going
to do is going down into Mexicoand rollover. You know, We're going
to give them hell and we're goingto go out there and compete for the
win, and we know it's notgoing to be easy. But at the
same time, I don't think they'relooking at our roster thinking it's going to
be an easy game for them aswell. Yeah, right now the league,

(36:55):
I'm sure the two teams south ofthe border are just thinking together,
Hey, this is our season, you know, this is our season,
you know. And Chihuaha was sayingthe only team we've lost to is Mona
raey Montere is saying the only teamwe've lost we haven't lost anybody. We're
undefeated, We're fifteen to zero, and now we've got a chance for two
Mexican teams to meet West versus Eastsouth of the border in all Mexico Ron

(37:16):
Newman Cup final. I know thesedreams are deep in the hearts of those
players, players whom you have playedwith and played against over the years,
you know, I mean, Ithink about how many times you've lined up
against Diego Reinoso and Edgar Torre's Gonzalesand these cats over the years. But
just soccers are not willing to handthat title over so easily, is what

(37:38):
I'm hearing. No, yeah, they're They're gonna have to come through us,
I think, and candidly, youknow, I was joking around a
couple of weeks ago that, youknow, it'd be nice to win a
championship down in Mexico and celebrate downin Mexico, lift that trophy and enjoy
a night out down down south.And so I know, I'm I'm looking

(37:59):
past a whole bunch of rounds ofleague games and playoff games. But the
point is, it looks like you'regonna have to win down in Monterey for
sure, and likely we're gonna haveto win in Chihuahua as well, and
so you know, when it's allsaid and done, if we can get
lift this championship this year, there'snothing sweeter than knowing we had to go

(38:19):
through both unbelievably quality Mexican oppositions. And you know, everything right now looks
to be like that last final championshipgame where the trophy is going to get
raised, is going to be downin Monterey, Mexico by the looks of
it, and I don't see thatchanging. And so right now it's about
like gearing your brain to win inMexico and make sure that we understand what

(38:42):
it takes, making sure we've gotthe bodies to get down there, making
sure we don't have travel issues orvisa issues, and you know, and
so we're gonna we're gonna take everyleague game the same way we do.
We go out to win every singlegame, and we are not overlooking whomever
we get in the first round orsecond round of playoff. And so but
you can you can project out deepand go anybody who really wants to win

(39:04):
this championship is absolutely going to haveto catch a win in Mexico, and
as We know that's not easy todo, but it's possible, right.
Uh, Baltimore did it back inthe day, and we've done it once
or twice, you know, insome playoff games, and so you know
there there are teams that can getdown there and and squeak out the w
and it's just going to take yourbest effort. And every time I see

(39:30):
the opening package for us where CraigChild says we're going to bring one more,
I always respond, even though nobody'slistening, of Okay, let's do
it. Let's make sure to dothat. And it seems like Mexico,
as you're mentioning, is the wayto that Ron Newman Cup. But you
kind of touched on it here. The constant challenge of playing shorthanded in Mexico,
that is a huge factor that honestlythe teams and and just in general

(39:54):
have their arms tied. That's avery particular situation. And how do you
as a player kind of motivate theteammates that you have to move past that
to just push forward and not letthat be an excuse for any sort of
result that might not happen. Yeah, you know, if there are certain
players that are unavailable to play inMexico. It's all about who's next and

(40:17):
who's up, you know, andhow are you going to fit in and
what are you going to bring tothe table, you know. For example,
thirteen Perez, We've been sitting herewatching him at training every single week,
like waiting for his opportunity, andthis is going to be his game
where he can get out there andflourish, you know. And so we
know there are players that are hungryand ready to perform in Mexico. Most

(40:39):
of our team is obviously Hispanic andMexican descent, and we were built,
you know, five six years agoto win in Mexico, and I don't
think a lot has changed, andso whomever can make it down there,
we're ready to compete and win.And I think last year the club made
an improvement in terms of submitting somepaperwork to get to get a couple of

(41:00):
the important players like Leo and Charlieand Costa potentially available for those games.
And so last year I think wasin playoffs, was the first year we
were able to get Leo down inMexico and are down in Chihuahua anyway,
and so I think, well, the organization will have all that stuff prepped
when when it's absolutely necessary. Andyou know, for this game, we

(41:22):
may be a little bit shorthanded.I don't know if everyone's kind of caught
win. But Gabrielle Costa had thumbsurgery or wrist surgery, you know,
Friday, six hours after our Mesquitegame, and so he's on the road
to recovery. We should have himback by the end of the season for
some for some regular season games. And you know, Sean Callahan tours Tours

(41:43):
ACL and he had to have thatrepaired. And so those were two people
that would have probably been on thatroad trip. But you know, it's
just two more people that are gonnahave to step up and fill those spots.
And and uh and bring it well, Creigor, you bring it every
time you come on Soccers overtime, and you bring the knowledge, you bring
the detail, you bring the intensity. We appreciate you. Safe travels down

(42:07):
there across the border to TJ andthen hopping on a Volaras flight into the
state at Chihuaba, the capital seat, Chihuaba, Chihuaa. We will be
watching, the fans will be watchingfrom Califino for a watch party on Friday,
Tony, and I'll be doing Englishlanguage broadcast, so I hope I
get to do a few mustache butPapa powers over the course of the night.

(42:29):
Yeah, Senor Mustachio is back.Yeah, I know that. You
know, honestly, that atmosphere downthere is fantastic and they heckle us a
lot, but at the same timeyou can tell there's nothing but respect for
the players, and so I'm lookingforward to it. And it's a great
city. Honestly, I don't knowwhat people know, but the hotel Accommodations
is ten out of ten. Thelittle city that we're in, the downtown

(42:49):
district is beautiful, and the atmosphereis great, and so we're all excited
to play. You know, noneof us are nervous or anxious about the
game. We're ready to get downthere and get to business. All right,
Go get him, Casey, thanksso much. I'll see you tomorrow
morning and let me see indoor. Thanks for having me, guys. Craig
Chiles capitanas, as you like tosay, Tony, he is the captain

(43:13):
of the captains. He's the leaderof this team. I really appreciate the
confidence that Craig Childs has and I'lltell you what. It filters through the
club. It filters through the club. This was the first road trip that
the Soccers had this year that theyhad their captain with them, because all
the other times were little. Itwas a little one ups to Tacoma,

(43:35):
right just over and over one upsto Tacomas. So it's great to see
that this club is locked in inmid season spelling, mid season form,
I should say. I just saidmid season. Then I looked down at
spellcheck and I said, spelling. This happens sometimes things You see things in
your eyes and it goes into yourmouth. Now. Absolutely, it's really
interesting to be able to see thetangibility of the intangible with Craig Chiles.

(43:59):
It's something that you can explain. You saw it last season they lost against
Empire, and right after there,Craig came on this very show and pretty
much spoke not just to the fans, not just to you, and it
went ahead at mis but to theteam in general, just like, no,
this is unacceptable. We have togo ahead and turn this around.
And that's exactly what they did atthat point. And this is really just

(44:22):
another example of his leadership with youknow what, sometimes the team really does
need that team bonding. It lookslike they have posta board material for like
this is what happens when you don'thave that potentially in Kansas City, as
he pointed out. But at theend of the day, this is really
impressive that at his age, inhis capacity, he's still getting it done.

(44:44):
That goal, that double hop goal. I really wish people were to
understand how difficult it is to getoff from the Earth and with gravity pulling
three, two, five, sixtimes more than your body weight to get
that header in. We're exactly whereyou wanted to to be. And it's
just really good to have him belocked in intense. We mentioned it at

(45:05):
the beginning of the season. Helooks like a different beast. And I'm
glad that he's now making these travels. As we kind of pointed out,
like hey, man, like yougotta be at Eastacoma game, he got
to make these away games. Nowhe's doing it, and I think that
glue is really coming together. Thethe catalyst of the mustache, yes,
yes, as soon as I sawit before the Saint Louis game, just

(45:27):
the hint of black on the upperlip, I'm like, Okay, here
we go. It's Craig Child's time. It's time when child starts to grow
it out. And all of asudden, what do you know, two
goals, four point game, hattrick. Here we go. I know
it's it's absolutely true, and Ialso appreciate, you know how his chip
says. You know, it's funnywe here turn it around after one loss.

(45:49):
But that soccer's for you. Imean, this club plays almost a
college football type season in terms ofyou're fighting for the top of the table.
It usually means you can't lose morethan one or two games. So
every single time that you lose,it becomes a bigger issue. And then
it's like, well, oh hangon, team lost, Now we're getting

(46:10):
up. You know, everyone smellsblood in the water, everyone gets excited.
Someone usually gets suspended after we losea game. They seem to go
hand in hand, and it's like, Okay, the soccers are unraveling.
The soccers are this. The soccersare that. The soccers hold themselves to
a high standard. Is what itis. It's Ron Newman cup or bust.

(46:30):
And that's why we talk about lastyear as a disappointing season for the
soccers. Winning twenty two games, winning the MASL Shield, you know,
dispatching Texas in the playoffs, butlosing to Chuaha, you know, And
that's the last time San Diego lostdown there. It's the only time that
they have lost in Chihuahua is Gameone of the Ron Newman Cup Semifinals last

(46:52):
year. They've They've won every othertime that they've gone down to Corner Sport
Arena. Not saying they're gunna, because this Chihuahua team is playing at a
level I've never seen before in termsof defensive intensity and the ability to suppress
goals. It's going to be afight. It's going to be a battle,

(47:13):
and it's going to come down tojust game flow, game mechanics,
as Craig said, Whose power playclicks, whose set piece works, what
happens along the way. Those typesof things are going to dictate who gets
the result on Friday. But it'snot going to come from intimidation for San
Diego, and it appears like itmay not come from deep rostered taxation as

(47:35):
well. We know Coasta won't bethere, but from what I'm hearing sounds
like almost everyone else at least hasa chance to be there. I'm also
really excited. What Craig said isthe players that are available to thin.
We've mentioned his name on the broadcasta couple of times. We've seen the
flashes of what he's able to do, the fact that the players are excited
for him to get this opportunity.I mean, go back to Monterrey last

(47:59):
year had name that nobody really kneweither be Morhika and his breakout games and
his breakout games over in Mexico andhow that led for his career growth.
Now being a part of this MontereyFlash team, an important part of the
Morninoey Flash team that's absolutely destroying theEast. But I'm really excited to see
who indeed steps up. We've beentalking about X, We've been talking about

(48:21):
these opportunities that are going to beinlaid here and there's no bigger test away,
intense atmosphere, corner sport arena, some shenanigans that happen, and it's
some gainsmanship. It's really a pressurecooker situation. And I think this is
going to be the closest situation toplayoff games that we're going to see before
the actual playoffs for the soccers.Yeah, I mean the point I was

(48:44):
kind of making before we got toCraig is that you don't really have to
worry about the standings the rest ofthe year anymore. I mean, I
think Craig already is saying it himselfthat, like, they're not really worried
about catching Monterey and winning the Shieldthis year. Now. Listen, if
Monterey steps off a curb wrong,so to speak, and they drop a

(49:04):
game and they put the shield backin play, certainly San Diego will be
playing for that, because we playedto win every match that we take the
floor for. But they have ninematches left Monterey, they have gone fifteen
and oh and they have taken outseveral of the sign post games that we

(49:24):
looked at, Tony, because Ithink it was like three or four weeks
ago that we did the MASL Newssegment, will Monterey lose a game,
and we kind of circled four orfive potential spots. Well, they've gone
by a couple of those. Milwaukeecame down, they paced in Milwaukee,
they went back to Milwaukee, theywon an overtime. They just took a
West coast road trip. As weare transitioning here to MASL News, they

(49:47):
just took a West Coast road trip. They went to Tacoma and won,
They went to Empire and won. Now, they weren't dominant on the road
in those games, you know, five to three, eight four, but
it was honestly five three with ashootout at the toe of Stintson to get
to five to four halfway through thefourth quarter in the Empire flash game.

(50:12):
So not dominant, convincing signature performances. But you know what, they keep
on winning. They keep on winning. They keep on winning north of the
border too. Yeah, no denyingthat. That's literally the juggernaut of a
team that they have, and Idon't see a weakness in any of their
play so far. Yeah, itmay slow down, because guess what,

(50:32):
every team needs a breather, andif their breather is an eight to four
result in a different country, thenI think that you cut your losses,
and you know what, there areno losses to cut if you're Monterey now.
So it's been a very interesting season. I've really, really, really
enjoyed this season overall with m aslW the soccers. Yeah, it's not
winning fatigue, but I'd rather nothave to really have that debate in my

(50:57):
mind. But again, it's thedynamic have been really really interesting, especially
with Monterey and other teams that arerather surprising, and some aren't. Aren't
that aren't even the ones that aren'tare interesting to a degree. Well that
brings a Stampire right. They hada big collaboration with the City of Ontario.
They offered a lot of free ticketsto Ontario Civic employees for their match

(51:23):
against the Flash and they announced acrowd of almost four thousand and watching the
match. There were fans in thestands. It wasn't just a completely empty
announcement. There were definitely fans inthe stands for this one. It was
an exciting match. It was reasonablywell competed between the two. Monterey gets

(51:44):
late goals against the sixth attacker tobeat Empire eight to four and to kind
of clean out. Not that theywere ever in danger of losing this game.
They were ahead, you know,as you could see. They were
up to nothing in the first. They were five to two after the second,
so there was never really a pointwhere they were in danger in the
match. There was a chance forEmpire to really close the gap again.

(52:07):
They had a Stinton shootout, downby two. Stinton missed the shoot I
shot it right into Berni's chest theshootout, and then Monterey killed the power
play and then that was basically itfor the game from Empire's point of view.
But Marco Fabian scored two more.Marco Fabian has scored at least one
goal in every match for Empire Strikersthis season. Now they are I believe,

(52:34):
two and eight with him and oneand two without him. So he
hasn't had any impact on the teamwinning. They have not been winning,
but two point five points per game, fifteen goals in ten games, and

(52:54):
continues to seemingly draw attention. Hewas on a naw ESPN podcast a week
or so ago, you know, being feedted at an LA Kings game,
like, you know, they've donewell, I think trading off of the
status of Marco Fabian, and tohis credit, Fabian has done well to

(53:15):
put goals in and keep smiling.Yeah, and this is something that we
always question as far as that transitionfrom the outdoor game to the indoor game,
how it's going to let's give meplay out. But Fabian has done
well and been a good ambassador forthe team as well to get eyeballs there.
I know some Mexican media is alsopicking it up. Are when Amigo

(53:36):
m Senel Sanchez that we had onthe podcast a couple of weeks ago,
actually threw his name out there andfor was I'm a newcomer of the year
and and that's something that can definitelybe in that conversation because he's not just
a newcomer on this league, onthis team, he's a newcomer to the
sport in general. Yeah. Again, he's a professional outdoor player, but
it doesn't always translate as well asit does so again, very much as

(54:00):
you can see, I know Isaw a coming here by Kalla. What's
fun I've been up to since hewent into Empire, Well, there's a
different nothing exactly, not exactly.Yeah, Michuel Pontsday has been completely invisible
on the floor when he has played, and he hasn't played that much.
And the reason he hasn't played thatmuch is because he's not providing any impact

(54:22):
for Empire on the floor. Ithink you make a great point, Tony.
It's not a guaranteed transition. It'snot even close to a guaranteed transition.
But Fabian has a hard shot thathe can locate well, and he
can shoot from distance, and thatis something that is an absolute skill.
And I think if you've seen alot of Fabian's goals, it's been him

(54:44):
kind of hanging toward the top ofthe crease. You know, a lot
of times it's been sixth attacker orpower play time situations, but getting just
that little bit of a crease toget a shot in and then he'll put
it right inside the post like he'sgot a strong, accurate shot and that's
what you need to score and succeedin indoor soccer. Yeah, and then

(55:05):
just kind of addressing this toy runnercommon here, wonder what Fabian's past experience
with wopulo is. I actually talkwith Fabian in his first matchup here down
in San Diego, and he wassaying that, look, he grew up
playing foot rapilo until he was fifteen, and that that age is the cutoff
for when you really have to eitherchoose the pathway of outdoor indoor. He
chose the outdoor way when professional withthat with Chivas and went in through that

(55:27):
academy, So that experience is there, so it's not out of nowhere transition.
There was some experience there, andclearly he's been able to translate what
he learned on the outside game intohere, and he's trying chileanitas, he's
trying overhead kicks, He's he's cominginto his own So entertainment value wise,
I'm happy. I am sports entertainedwith Michael fag in the league. And

(55:51):
you know, Empire losing those effortssometimes that that's fine too. That's fine
too, boy, I've been rootingfor him. Is hard. As I
was the other night with Monterey intown, like, oh, when you
think I'm an Empire hater, NohandI had on my striker's year. I
was like ordering stuff online. Iwas creating a crown for myself. I

(56:12):
was considering secession ideas, you know, and anything it takes to be an
Inland Empire fan. I was.I was all the way in. I
was like, maybe we do needto have a brand new state in the
Union that only counts for the InlandEmpire of California. Maybe that is a
good idea, you know. Imean, I was one hundred percent bought
into that match, So lots offun. Monterey is fifteen to zero,

(56:36):
Empires three and ten. They're notgoing to make the playoffs, but you
know, they're building something. Miatovicis doing stuff. You know. The
kid keeper of Rosco has been prettygood the last couple of games, you
know, stepping in for Brandon Gomez. So you know, things getting a
little better for Empire. Good forthem. Striking Fury can can break it
all down for you with the dockand Philly and the panda comments. Holy

(57:00):
cow, now we're tripping into BlueTestament territory here. But an OT loss,
then five straight losses, then anotherOT loss. That's seven losses in
a row for the comments and saysthe streak is won. But that's because
the league's computer is whack and countsOT losses and losses as somehow different things.

(57:22):
Trust me when I tell you thecomments believe they have lost seven in
a row because seven straight times they'vetaken the field hoping to win, and
seven straight times the opponent has scoredmore goals than the Kansas City comments.
There were seven and one, there'sseven and eight. I can't believe it,
man, Like, this was ateam that my boss said to me

(57:45):
about a month and a half ago. He said, Kansas City is the
class of the league on and offthe field. And I said, I
really can't disagree. They're undefeated, they're drawing great crowds, they've activated their
community, they're doing it all andand look at this laid out a nightmare.

(58:07):
It started with that January twelfth, come from a head home collapse,
and then a six match road trip, first off MASL going to ma ASL.
You know, why not play halfyour road schedule all in one trip.
That seems like a fair distribution ofhome and away. Let's just do

(58:28):
all the away. To just doa way away away. But it's one
thing to do what they did.Go down to Mexico, get their clock
cleaned by Monterey, come back, come the closest anyone has come all year
to beating the Flash, especially atArina Boregos go to Chiuaba two goals.

(58:50):
I mean, that's the thing, the Jannoni Savage. It's not just that
they're winning, it's that they allowone or two goals in the game.
So just complete deflation. And thenhow about these last three results. They
go to Utica, they lose byfour. They go to the Baby Baby
Arena at Towson against the Blast ofall teams, the super mediocre b Last,

(59:15):
and they lose seven to five. And I watched that match. They
weren't in it. They were downfive to one. They were down five
to one early second quarter, andit was kind of like a well we're
coming back, you know. It'slike one of those comebacks. We're like,
well, you know, we're downby three now, like nothing nothing
going for them, and then theycap it off by coming from a head

(59:35):
to lose to the lousy Ambush.I'm sorry, the Ambush aren't a good
team. We've seen them in person. I am stunned. And not to
say that they can't turn it around, but eight lost teams don't win the
championship. Like already, I'm dismissingKansas City now thanks to this run of

(59:57):
results. And I'm sure they'll turnit back the other direction. I'm sure
they'll win some on the blue turf, you know, and our buddies will
get excited on the call and everyonewill start to get things worked out.
But you lose seven in a rowin this league, you're not gonna win
a championship. There's just no way. No. It's honestly almost impressive what's

(01:00:22):
going on with the comments. AndI think if we were to redo our
soccer's overtime tier list. I thinkthe majority of the switch. I think
we could just kind of take careof it now in verbatim is just comments
down and that's it, Like Idon't know any other movement, but it's

(01:00:45):
incredible. What's going on has tobe demoralizing. Just looking at that gold
dif French will in these last sevenmatches is is something to It's a stark
just comparison and where they were becausethey were doing fantastic. They started really
well, playing some great indoor soccer, scoring worldies, really putting it together

(01:01:06):
well on that blue turf. Butat some point it's just kind of all
collapse. And again I now thinkof that little inside that couple done Craig
Chiles gave us as far as likewell the team building this and I wonder
what they see just being inside ofthe league, being inside the walls,
what they're experiencing, what they're hearingfrom other places, and if that really

(01:01:27):
is the crux of this downfall forthe comments. It's interesting, It's very
interesting, you know, the onlything I can really point to because like
Susan is asking, well, whatis it, you know, like what's
happened to this team? I mean, first and foremost is that they've been
giving up a lot of goals. They haven't been It's not like they've been

(01:01:49):
sitting there playing rock solid. They'vein those seven losses, the second Monterey
match, the first Utica match, and the first half of the same Lewis
game, Kansas City played pretty well, but clearly they don't have the ability
to stop the bleeding right now.And the only thing I can kind of
point to and I don't just youknow, hand up, I don't have

(01:02:12):
inside knowledge. I haven't tried topoke around and get under the hood of
the Kansas City comments because quite frankly, I don't have to. One team's
going to emerge from the East.Eventually, we'll worry about them if the
soccers can can take care of theirpart. But Nikola Netto was off to
a tremendous start to the season innet and you know, as a Brazilian

(01:02:34):
national, I think he couldn't travelsouth of the border. I just know
that they're They're second keeper, PhilipJemadu started all of those games and now
has started four games for Kansas Cityout of fifteen. He didn't play particularly
well in those games, and Netto'sI mean, I think he's been okay,

(01:02:58):
I don't know. I don't haveit. I don't have a straight
answered for Kansas City. They've justthe switch turned off and all of a
sudden they're losing. You know,Listen, it's also about competition, right,
you played Monterey, Chihuahua, Utica. You lose all of those games.
It just tells me, like wesaw, maybe it's time to take
a look at the tier list andmake a little change of route. I

(01:03:21):
like that. Let's see what happenshere in Chihuahua too, because man if
a soccers takeing it from Chihuahua, that might you know, come from A
plus to an A B plus perhaps, But that's going to be something to
look forward to and look at theend of the day. This is another
testament to what people call you andI out on the chat on Twitch or

(01:03:44):
whenever we cite. Travel is no, no, no, Like the soccers
are traveling. It's crueling, butthey're still winning. And again it's a
testament to the soccers, and it'sa testament to the great work that goes
behind the scenes. But not allteams are built the same. Craig and
I think this is one of thosesituations where you can kind of look and
compare and contrast these travel schedules, say, look, this is what you

(01:04:08):
can have potentially, and that's notwhat the soccers are right now. That's
a great point, Tony, that'sa great point. Let's wrap things up
with soccers news. There will bean announcement by the club tomorrow morning at
ten am, something I actually gotto take care of tonight. It's a
good reminder to myself. I gotto take care of a little right through

(01:04:30):
tonight. But the club will beannouncing a player signing tomorrow of a free
agent. This isn't a trade. They will be announcing a player signing because
it's not official yet. I won'tmake any announcement. But it's a different
flavor of player than the Soccers havehad before, or a different la of

(01:04:54):
player then they've had before. Flawof flaw, flowing flobber like in his
interview flow, right, I Ikeep making mistakes like that, like letting
things out. I got a callearlier this week. I love Paul Savage,

(01:05:16):
our athletic trainer. Apparently I waslike in some sort of hip of
violation with the notes because I'm justI'm just trying to be you know,
providing the information to the fans.Like if this league ever actually got in
bed with gambling, where like youcould gamble on these games in Las Vegas,
this league wouldn't last two weeks. It would be done in two weeks.

(01:05:38):
It would topple upon itself in twoweeks. Yeah, on one side,
you gotta hip on the other.Just I'm telling you, just trying
to get the info to the fansand they could make informed bets, you
know, no, no, anyways. Yeah, So there will be an

(01:06:00):
announcement Wednesday morning. I don't knowone hundred percent of this player will play
in uh Mexico, but he could, but he could. Remember, Gabriel
Costa is out until close to theend of the regular season now with that
surgery, which I now can talkabout because it has happened. Listen,

(01:06:24):
you know, hang it. EddieBear figured it out. Oh boy,
we're gonna come out with just giantclocks hanging up Flaw. Flaw one of

(01:06:53):
the most groundbreaking reality TV shows ofour generation. Oh my golly, oh
my golly. So that is happeningtomorrow. Stay tuned for that. It'll
be announced at ten am. JG'sgonna have to press the button because I'll
be on the air with Annie andElston Monday through Friday, ten am to
two pm, Sandycus never one SportsStation ninety seven. Through the fans.

(01:07:15):
There's never been more soccer's talked onthe air than when they gave me a
radio show, like I actually givethe results and tell everybody what's what.
I love that. I've seen peopleshow up in the comments and both on
on Twitch and in person. Justyou know you're getting people out there.
I think some commission money has tobe coming your way, Craig, because

(01:07:38):
numbers are moving. I'm trying tryingto keep soccer alive in America's finest city.
Salzezo coming on the show Thursday. Not for nothing, fans of soccer,
fans of the great game. What'syour former Annie and Elston? Oh?
Okay, by the way, startingtomorrow now featuring Annie I love that

(01:08:04):
for like a month pretty much.So Annie and Elston now featuring new Annie
flavor starting tomorrow at ten am.Selze'sa will be on Thursday's show if you
want to hear some soccer talk onAnnie and Elston. Okay, so new
player signing Tomorrow ten am, Friday, six o'clock the Soccers and the Chiwawa

(01:08:27):
Savage. There will be a watchparty at the Califino Sublimit Lounge up in
Carl's Bad slash Carlsbad San Marcos Border. It's like, if you drive a
block, you're in San Marcos.Otherwise you're in Carlsbad. But there's the
address thirty two to thirty eight GreyhawkCourt. Type that in your Google map
and get to it. Doors openfive third. Doors will probably be open

(01:08:51):
just a little bit before that. But you know, if you want to
show up five ish, you're gonnabe fine. But five point thirty officially
the start. There'll be food onhand available for purchase. Beverages you know,
are taken care of. So that'sgood news for youse. That's good

(01:09:12):
news for yous. Hoping we'll havesome brujos up there. Obviously it's a
Friday, you know, it's it'sa difficult situation for folks who knows what
the weather's gonna continue to be.Is it gonna rain all week? I
don't even know. There was atornado where I lived, warning there was
a tornado warning there was and Isaw a picture on X that looked like

(01:09:35):
half a tornado, like the tophalf, but it didn't meet the bottom
half, which is great news.In the city of San Diego, it
was excellent, excellent news. Idid not like being on the radio earlier
today being handed tornado warning being explainedthat warning means like it's coming, and

(01:09:57):
watch is like, eh, itmight happen. And then to see the
city of La Masa in the sametornado and lamas I do not live in
Kansas. This doesn't make any senseat all, but yeah, it could
it have been a water spout.Could I mean, if it's if it's
over the ocean, it's a waterspout, not a tornado. If it

(01:10:17):
touches down actually on the earth,it becomes a tornado. Okay. Vibbert
says it touched down in the trueLivista Alcohol area. I listen. I
haven't watched the local news tonight,so I don't know if there was actually
ever a touchdown. I didn't seeany major reports of significant damage, which
if a tornado actually came rolling throughthe county, there would have been damage

(01:10:38):
on damage on damage, So hopefullythings wound up being somewhat okay. Amid
asks can we bring treats to shareto the watch party. What kind of
treats? Sammoned h, what kindof treats? Let's just turned into a
pot Look, I mean legal treats. Yes, yes you can. You

(01:11:00):
can bring legal treats. Don't bringa legal treats. That wouldn't be right.
Don't do that. No, kindersurpressas buenos marijuanas. No, no,
no, no no, don't doany of that. So watch party

(01:11:20):
on Friday, Califino Sublimit Lounge shouldbe a lot of fun. Now.
Uh, Tony and I are goingto be doing an English language broadcast of
the match. We've been doing thisfor the last three years, right,
We've been doing English language broadcasts whetherthe club is in Monterrey or whether they're
in Chihuahua. We're going to dothat again. We're working on the production

(01:11:41):
side of that. I sent anemail to the league today Tony asking,
you know, can we get thatclean feed like we did for the finals
last April, which was really nice. I think we enjoyed that. The
second question that you and I haveto answer once the show is over we
can have a little chitter chat afterthe show is over, is our personal

(01:12:03):
logistics because last year we did itwhere you are right now. We did
it in your two balls and amic, San Diego Punto Funpould studio.
We certainly couldn't do the English languagebroadcast down on the floor of Califino Lounge
because there would be the sinking issue. There would be the issue of us

(01:12:25):
watching the game on a tiny monitorand being four seconds ahead of what's on
the big screen, and then weyell goal or we go oh goal,
and then everyone knows what happened, and that would be a mess. So
you and I can chat about that, whether we're going to try and sequester
ourselves upstairs or whether we just doit from your studio. I've gotten permission
to go either direction on that.Of course, obviously I would love to

(01:12:46):
be up in Ocean or in Carlsbadwith all of our mates and at least
see everybody before the game and seeeverybody at halftime and whatnot. But you
know, we got a job todo, and to answer the question of
KVI, the English broadcast should beright here, should be right here on
the San Diego Soccers Twitch channel, right where you are watching this broadcast now.

(01:13:08):
It should be here. If theleague asks us to put it on
an MSL soccer channel. We willmake that announcement on our social media between
now and Friday, but four nowI would say that it will be on
this channel on the San Diego SoccersTwitch channel, So looking forward to that.

(01:13:29):
I always look forward to, ofcourse, announcing a game with you
under any circumstance, Tony. Butyou know, these ones are always kind
of fun. And in the pastit used to be the two of us,
or maybe the two of us andJerry alone inside the Califedo Lounge,
just us and Jake Grooney there makingsure that we don't burn the place down
and such. So it's gonna begreat to have the lounge filled. It's

(01:13:53):
just a mess for us to tryand do it like in the middle of
everything it does. And trust mewhen I tell you, it wouldn't be
as fun as you think it would. It wouldn't work out nearly as well
as you think it might. Whenyou just go, ah, hey,
who cares, come over? Welove you guys, Just come on over
watch the game with us. It'llbe fine. So and nothing against Carlos

(01:14:15):
and Jimmy and the great job theydo out of Chihuahua as well, it's
you know, just a simple fact. Just like they do Spanish language broadcasts
for when the when the soccers playModero, when the soccers played Chihuahua,
we do an English language broadcast whenwe played Chihuahua or we play Mona Ring.
So that's coming up on Friday, stay tuned. But hopefully everyone at

(01:14:36):
the lounge Tony will be watching ourbroadcast on the Big jun Yeah, and
it'll be fun either way. It'sreally cool to be there, and it's
a really cool space in general, and I really enjoyed either just solo or
alone or with a bunch of friendsa couple of rooms down. But yeah,

(01:14:56):
we'll get that synced up. We'llget it rocking and roll in an
and hopefully we can deliver a nonsilence broadcast and we can get that from
the league because it's possible. Weknow it's possible. They said it was
impact for Game one of the Championshipgame last year. They made it possible
for Game two and it was somuch better. Oh, it was nice.
I really enjoyed that Umi and Natorslast year knocking that out. That

(01:15:21):
was that was great until the blastfans got mad at us in the fourth
quarter of Game two, when itwas crystal clear that they were going to
lose the championship, and then theyturned on us harder than a wrestling crowd
turning on the heel when they getout the foreign object and conceal it from
the referee. We just got aman talk about a heel turn from the

(01:15:45):
chat last year. That was brutal. Man. Yeah, I don't think
it's led up since then. Honestly, it's only maintained that level of savagery,
no pun intended, just from thenon savage fans. But it'll be
fun either way. And look,I hope people really enjoyed and and maybe

(01:16:06):
maybe we'll see. We'll see howit works out with maybe feeding a microphone
down there to get some ambient sound. If that's the case, I don't
know. We'll make sure we havethe best that we can here for the
soccers fans. Yeah, we'll figureit out one way or another. Tony
and IL chat when the show's over, which is moments from now. It's
almost over. Shows almost over nextweek Tuesday, Thursday, Texas, Texas

(01:16:32):
heard some rumors last week on ayou know, particular Facebook site that is
whatever, but that the US futsalteam is meeting for training next week,
and that potentially Luis Morales and Mendezand maybe Ortiz or two of the three
could be away for these matches.I'm gonna tell you right now, I

(01:16:55):
hope not, because I like tosee Texas come in full you know,
full steam, full steam ahead.Yeah no, And that's something that's around
the league too. I believe NickPereiro, some of those conversations being have
a very important key matchups happening forthese these teams. And again we're talking
about the soccers kind of having thatclear headspace between first and second, but

(01:17:17):
the rest of the league is stillfighting and the rest of the division is
still fighting for their position in playoffs. So it's going to be very interesting
to see how that's going to bemaneuvered. It's just not a good place
for the league to be to nothave their teams at their best. And
this is going to be a gruelingroad trip for Texas who are away,
who are making up a game herethat was you know with you know what,

(01:17:40):
I don't think about it. I'mglad that they were able to fix
the piping underneath Pachang Arena before allthis for the flooding, because I don't
know, God, could you imagine? Oh my god? Yeah, Ken
the men here says footsal training inArgentina February fifth to fifteenth. So you
know, sucks to be them tobe gone. Good for them to be

(01:18:03):
part of a US national team.Great for them to be part of the
US national team. Would I wouldtry to generate some ounce of whatever about
it? The Outlaws have six losses, So what are we really talking about

(01:18:24):
here? You know what I mean, Like, what we're really talking about
is whether Texas finishes third or fourth. That's what we're really talking about,
is whether Texas finishes third or theyfinish fourth. And I think they'll probably
finish third, and if not, they'll finish fourth. I don't think that
there's too much doubt in my mindthat chihuaba will wind up the number two
team in the Western standings when allis said and done, when they finally

(01:18:47):
clear their sixth and final game againstthe Monterey Flash and you know, with
any luck, maybe they win thatone. But this coming game on Friday,
it's not about winning the division. It's about who's the better team.
It's about statements for the future, and if the soccers go down to Chihuahua
and lose on Friday, which theyvery very well may I mean, I'm

(01:19:12):
sure if there was a Vegas lineit would be Chihuahua, you know,
as the money line favorite in thisgame. They should be. They went
to San Diego and won by four. They haven't lost to any team not
named Monterey, and their defense allowedever since Genoni Martinez took over. I

(01:19:32):
think the most goals they've allowed usfour in a game, and that was
losing to Monterey four two. Soyou know, Chihuahua's loaded. Gannoni's got
them locked in. They are playingat an effort level. I mean,
I think we saw that so clearlywhen they came in for that January fourteenth
game. The effort level, thedesire, the blocking of shots, the

(01:19:57):
positioning, getting behind the ball, focus, shape, keeping your shape all
the time. Like all of thatis happening for the Chihuahua Savage right now.
And I think if the soccers godown there and win a game,
it makes a big statement for theMAASL that it's not kind of almost decided,

(01:20:20):
so to speak, because otherwise thenarrative is Chihuaba versus Monterey in the
final and is anything going to disruptthat along the way. If the soccers
go down there and make it zeroto two against the Savage and Chihaba clinches
the series before we get to thethird game, that'll be the narrative.
And I mean, who cares, right, That's what Phil and Alex get

(01:20:41):
to say to each other on MASLMonday. Well, it looks like this.
Looks like that they'll play the gameseither way. But I'm looking forward
to it. I think it's goingto be a very, very difficult match.
You heard Craig Child say it.Luis Perez tourteen number twenty five should
be in the lineup, San Diego. I saw some people in the chat

(01:21:01):
asking about one Manuel Rojo. Iwas asking about one Manuel Roj. He
has no ability to practice with thisteam at all because he cannot cross the
border. So whereas torteen, ifyou go back several episodes, right,
Tony, we talked about this waybefore the beginning of the year, that

(01:21:24):
there was a date and a decisionpoint by which if you came north the
club could work on your visa andyou could practice, or if you stayed
south, you're down there and that'sit. And that's what happened with JM.
Rojo. He made a decision. The decision was put to him.
He made a decision to stay downthere. The club did reach out and

(01:21:46):
contact him over the last couple ofweeks, nothing materialized in a manner that
would allow him to successfully contribute tothe team in Chihuahua without potentially having a
disruptive nature to just subbing him infor one game. Again, keep in
mind, Luis tortin Perez has beenwith the team all the time, He's
been practicing all the time, sohim stepping in is nothing for the team.

(01:22:11):
They they are completely used to himRojo stepping in all of a sudden,
we'd be like, well, wait, who's doing which, and what's
our pairing and who's and here's akid that's in there, and he's he's
looking to bust out and get acouple of goals because it's his only chance
to play, you know, Sothat's not happening. But it looks like
and even with a new lah ofplayer, then you know, we we

(01:22:36):
should be reasonably well set for forFriday night's match in terms of personnel.
You know, there's always that question, will says our Sarah will Brandon Escoto
Wi, Leonardo del le Vera beable to travel, and I'm not going

(01:22:56):
to come out here and say somethinguntoward. I'll say, let's go watch
the match on Friday and see ifyou see all your friends out on the
floor. And I've got a prettydecent thought that it's going to work out
for San Diego. But we'll figureit out. Marlicia says that that Torteen
was part of the winning street soccerteam at the Escondidochrome Ball Tour event.
Okay, he was out there outin about maybe sharpening from skills. Love

(01:23:21):
it, Stay Sharp, Stay Sharptourteen, Stay sharp. Last thing you've
been waiting for it. No onemore than my co host has been waiting
for it. Official word did comedown this morning that the media game,
which had been scheduled for January seventhand was scuttled when the water main broke

(01:23:45):
underneath Pachanga Arena, it has beenrescheduled. The media game is back on
from March tenth. March tenth,I believe that's Military Appreciation Night. I'm
just remembering off the top of myhead. I think it's Empire. Toward
the end of the season, weplay Empire almost as much as we played
Tacoma at the beginning of the season, and it is going to be the

(01:24:09):
halftime media game. It's happening, bigger, better, stronger than ever.
Cabanda Boy Jeff available once again.Boy, I'm I'm in for it.
I'm that's honestly. The only reasonI'm I'm I'm happy that we got it
in is because there needs to bejustice for Cobbata Boy Jeff, Alejandro Chi
in our little thing, No no, no, no, the the the

(01:24:31):
lineage, the legendary, the statureof Cabana Boy Jeff's play at Pachanga Arena.
It just needs to be that capstonefor the season. It can't be
the last season at the Grand OldArena without Cabana Boy Jeff and hopefully well,
I'm just so glad that we finallygot Jeff's p one visa issues ironed
out back on the floor where hebelongs. I know this is out not

(01:25:00):
out of context common but you know, yeah, one hundred percent, Yeah,
to visa issues. That's what visaissues, Yep, that's what was
keeping him. He was stuck. His vis wouldn't let him out of Nashville
last time. But it turns outhe's okay. Turns out he is all
right. So the media game willbe halftime of the March tenth Sunday five
o'clock match against Empire Strikers. Somedia game around five forty five six o'clock.

(01:25:23):
We're going to be rallying the troopsthis week, Tony, getting it
out there, getting everyone see ifwe can shake some more media members out
of the trees, because you know, usually when we were doing it in
January, all of the talking headtelevision football show types, not the football
that we enjoyed, but the handegg, the the one that they call

(01:25:46):
football but you hold it in yourhand and it's not even a ball.
It's this weird. Do you knowwhat we call it in Spanish? What
America? Yeah, like I actuallydo know, but just make sure thank
you for letting me go with thatone. I mean I was like,
maybe something else football though stupid though, you know what I mean? Football,

(01:26:13):
Tonto's those cup run is you know, I mean, it could be
it could be anything. I don'tknow what you guys came up with footballers.
So all of that coming your way. Media game March tenth again,

(01:26:34):
Tuesday and Thursday, free parking, three dollar bud lightes please take advantage responsibly.
Uh and ten dollars GA tickets, which means ten dollars supporters tickets as
well for those Tuesday Thursday games Soccersand Texas. Very very last note,
obviously, Soccers overtime will not benext Tuesday because Tony and I will be

(01:26:57):
literally announcing the game, So itwill be Wednesday. We will do Soccers
overtime next Wednesday. Wait a second, Tony, that's Valentine's Day? Hm?
Hmm, okay, who who putit? Who put Valentine's down a
Wednesday? Yeah? Who agreed tothis? Who agreed to this? Do

(01:27:23):
we do it on Monday? Fiveo'clock on Monday? I think I think
we can mat I think we coulddo I think we could do that.
I think we can do five o'clockon Monday. That makes more sense.
I'll have to do that and hotTub all the same day. That's fine.
I'll just have a super super impactedMonday night. We will have double

(01:27:45):
podcast nights on Monday. I lovethat. There you go, there you
go. No Friday, No nochance, toy Runner, not on Friday,
too late, too late, toolate. Monday night five pm.
That's what we're gonna do. We'regonna do it on the twelfth. We're
gonna do it live. We're doingit live live. It'll be Monday the

(01:28:10):
twelfth. We'll recap Chihuahua. We'lllook ahead to the Texas games. Maybe
it'll be a slightly shorter show, who knows. But we'll take care of
business Monday next week with soccers overtime. That just makes way more sense than
me pissing off my wife and youpissing off desarray your partner by being like,

(01:28:30):
yeah, no, we have tohang out and talk soccer on Valentine's
Day, like in the dinner hour. So that makes sense. That makes
sense. Hang, I just gotone last thing. Toy Runner keeps asking
about the statement. What is thestatement? Did I miss something along the
way? Didn't really catch that?Think somebody was talking about a statement that

(01:28:51):
was made in the first quarter ofthe Empire match. I also have no
context for this, and several peopleput the statement in quotations. So or
Tacoma Stroma's statement before their last homegame. What they're mad at us?

(01:29:13):
Can we just put them in therearview mirror? Like, honestly, I'm
tired. Honestly, I'm tired ofthe matchup of San Diego Tacoma. I'm
just I'm just tired of it.Pregame call out of the league. Oh
oh really, Tacoma announcer read astatement reiterating his position from our game versus

(01:29:38):
them complaining about the game, versusthe soccers interesting winners win, losers complain.
Yeah, I know that could sounda little bit cold. I said
everything I needed to say last weekabout that match, about the announcer,

(01:29:59):
about the city situation. I willtell you factually, the league had words
for that announcer that it was notunaddressed by the league, And I'm just
going to leave it at that,Like the Stars need to get over themselves

(01:30:26):
in a major way. The Leaguedidn't do him any favors with scheduling.
The Director of Officials has gone throughthat game point by point. Ryan Siggoch
said unequivocally on his own show thathe did not believe that Gabriel Coasta was
off sides on the shootout. Andit's honestly silly to keep going back.

(01:30:54):
When you keep going back and goingback and going back and going back,
you're not looking forward. That's themost obvious thing possible. So I'm sure
Nick Perera didn't want a statement tobe read. I'm also sure that in
this you know, little heapot wherewe have tempests that is the maasl that

(01:31:15):
somebody thought it was incredibly important thatthey had something to be said. Drop
it, straight up, drop it, Tacoma. So sorry that you gagged
away a three goal lead against theteam that then wound up beating you a

(01:31:35):
fifteenth straight time. Sorry, yeah, unfortunate for you, as Jeff prope
says to the losing tribe when hetakes away their flint. Sorry for you

(01:31:55):
didn't happen quite unfortunate that you hadtwo chances to defend a one goal lead
with thirty seconds and then with fifteenseconds left and found away to surrender a
gold which involved no referees, whistles, no this, that or the other
thing. If you can't look forward, you're stuck in the past. Man.

(01:32:19):
So I agreed, that's cool.Didn't see the start of that.
Didn't need to know that. Nowthat I know that, I don't feel
any better about the world, orlike you know, I don't feel like
I've gained anything substantively by the factthat that happened. It does make me
think about going back and checking outthe start of that broadcast just to see

(01:32:40):
it simply for the laughs. Yeah, because, trust me, I will
have a hearty chuckle. I willenjoy myself like that, you know,
something along those lines when I seethat at It'll be somewhere along that,

(01:33:02):
uh and and that and that'll bethat, That'll be that. Hopefully,
Tacoma, this long stretch of playingteams not named soccers will be great for
you, and I will not beupset if you wind up settling into that
fourth position. And then you cantake us on in the playoffs, Tacoma.

(01:33:24):
You can take us on in theplayoffs and get really, really really
mad if we win again. Ohno, it's so unfair. All right,
Yeah, let's go, let's gohave a burger, let's go eat
some soup. For comments. Todaywe did all right, we did fast

(01:33:46):
money. And I have no ideawhere the hell Braden comes up with.
The survey, said answers Tony,And it was what pairs with with the
burger? And the number one answerwas, of course rise, Yes,
there was soup. Who's dipping theirburger? And soup? Who has ever
had a burger and a soup. That is not okay, No, this

(01:34:12):
is I will stink. I'll takea stuff tamale in the riggies over a
soup Tamali Reggy's what goes best withchicky Reggie Tamali's Tamala's what goes best with
burger soup? Obviously, little chickenmatza ball right next to my double double.

(01:34:36):
You know what, Keith, Ilike chips and dip too. I
like chips and dip. That's agreat that's a great answer. Okay,
that's it for the show. Thanksto Craig Giles for joining us tonight.
Appreciate you, Cappy. Thanks toall our great San Diego Soccers fans.
Thanks to all the folks in Tacomawatching to hear if we said something along
the way so that they could maybewrite a statement. Enjoy pleasing joy,

(01:35:00):
Please enjoy crafting that statement. Considerutilizing an AI system to give you a
statement. Yeah. Maybe in Tacoma. That's what they have, the burgers
in the soup. Burger soup.Yeah, I can see that. I
mean, it's one thing to havecheeseburger soup. It's another thing to have
a cheeseburger and a soup. Yeah, dipping, Yeah No, that's not

(01:35:25):
how that works. That's not howea stock soup at least, I mean,
can it at least be a beefstock soup if you're dipping. I
think I think we're creating situations thatdon't need to be created. I completely
agree. I think this minute ofthe show doesn't need to exist. So
let's bring it to a sudden close. For Tony Sanchez and Craig Giles.
I'm Greg Elston. Have a greatweekend. We will see you hopefully in

(01:35:48):
Ocean Side for the watch party onFriday. We will talk to you on
the English language broadcast one way oranother, and we say have a great
weekend and go Soccers.
