Although I may have spoiled one ofthem. I was looking at that

I'd probably would have checked before,But I like it. I like
that reveal. You know, peoplegot some good news at the top too.
Exactly about passive reveal, so tospeak, but indeed something that something,

(04:28):
Cool, Google, Spotify, whatever, throw us that kind review that
would be that would be great, that would be terrific. Okay, Well
that's all the housekeeping out of theway, Tony. Sometimes, you know,
this job can be easy and fun, and sometimes this job can be
Season six, episode seventeen. Youknow, they're not all they're not all

(04:51):
destined to be classics, and neitherof the games apparently. No. That
really kind of is the tone thatwas set, you know, by the
game last night, where honestly,I don't think i've I've felt that feeling
inside of Pachanga Arena since I thinksince the you know, the low blow

(05:14):
that was that shihuahua over a minigamewin, and just kind of that defeatedness
and just the malaise just working over. And I think this is maybe a
little worse because you saw it.If you were just looking at that game,
paying attention, you just felt somethingwas on the horizon and it wasn't
necessarily positive. Uh, But wellwe'll talk about it. Well, let's

(05:41):
start with the good news. Thesoccer has got most of their players back
for this game. They were onthe field. There's Charlie Gonzales, there's
t Void Morgan, you can seetwo guys who were out a week ago
that we thought would stay out.San Diego does get the one nothing lead,
great stick, touitive play by Brandonand then a lovely little assist I'm
almost behind the back type as cystto get the ball to Craig Chiles.

(06:06):
A great start for one nothing.Kansas City looked a little slow, to
be honest, on this defensive play. Maybe it was just unfortunate luck with
the bounce there, but boy,you see this, you see this start
to the match, and I'm going, okay, this is the second time
in two weeks, by the way, that you and I were down on
the floor before a match, completelyfooled by the tenor of the club that

(06:30):
was warming up. Kansas City lookeddragging, They looked dead, they were
tired. They had only flown infrom Kansas City a couple hours before.
A lot of guys with baggy eyeslike we looked at him saying hmm,
but you know, it's a nicething when you get one back. And
this was legitimately a really good play. Rihan Marquez getting his leg out and
Lucas Soza finding him. No,yeah, absolutely, and it took a

(06:53):
lot of great plays by Kansas Cityto also mount this wind, but they
had every excuse to not win thisgame and say, you know what,
it was a short it was ashort turnaround. We flew in today,
we're tired, we're this for inthe second second quarter as Regget goes down
one of their best players and looked, you know, serious enough to maybe

(07:14):
not have them being in the gamefor the rest of the match. But
they had every excuse and they roseto the challenge. And so again credit
to Kansas City and the comments andeverything that they did, but I don't
think that the soccer should have allowedthat to happen. As well, there's
the goal for two to one kindof sneaks through all parties involved, including
getting through Boris at the end. That's one that you kind of take a

(07:40):
note on for two to one isa goal that's allowed. There set's kind
of a bad tone for the half. Then we have soccers is another kind
of hidden moment. Soccers are onthe power play here down one, but
trying to equalize and couldn't you knowwe can talk about the fact we're seeing
the argument. Phil gets a yellowcard, Chad Vandergriff and Charlie got together

(08:05):
along the bench wall. However,it began with the Soccers unable to hold
and maintain possession on their power playand Vandergriff, of course a great defender,
but nonetheless he was working his wayup the floor trying to counter,
which is what led to this call. Kind of a strange call. And

(08:26):
when the soccer's four v four versionends, first of all, San Diego
gets a goal out of it,to Voice scoring that broke a thirty two
minute scoreless streak within the game forSan Diego. Great goal here, just
classic to VOI yeah, and thepieces start coming together. You're like,
ah, I missed Tavoy. Ididn't see Tavoy last match. And this

(08:48):
is what he brings. This isthe X factor that he's able to do
here. And you know he's beencontributing a lot on the assists side,
but he is lethal when it comesdown to it. But he was lethal
for I'll say a half yeah. And then before the mini power they only
had twenty seven seconds of power playKansas City at the end of that four
to be four, but it turnsinto a goal and three two. Then

(09:11):
an incredible Charlie to Tavoy pass threeto three, and once again you say,
well, look we're you know,at this point, we're about forty
minutes into the match. Almost fortyminutes into the match, it's three to
three. It's been kind of astumble around. We've seen this before from
San Diego, and then it getshot and it gets turned around. You
get a little flurry of goals andit turns around, and it was pretty

(09:33):
crazy to me that the flurry ofgoals happened. It happened for the team
in red. Here they come fourto three. Tough play. Guerro Pino
goes down right though in between Charlieand ruggles the pass to get to Ramon
Palmer for the tap in the walkit in goal for three to tough play.
It is a tough play, butit's kind of like there's four soccers

(09:56):
defenders there and everyone is looking ateach other to make the play. Then
quick restart team isn't ready there. They go five to three. Neither one
of those are considered necessarily like massivebreakdowns, but it's these are team issues
here. Just slow off. Itfooled on the restart. We've seen it

(10:16):
happen against the soccers. It happensto the soccers. Still shouldn't be devastating
five to three, this this isdevastating. Yeah, straight turnover instantly converted
into a goal. Part of wasthe one who turned it over put it
right to a red foot. Itgoes right back to Soza. Well done

(10:39):
by Kansas City and the soccers areleft to see it down by three and
you really start to see exactly thelapses in judgment, not necessarily just on
the field on the play, butjust the tone that this game took where
there was a lot of looking overto the refs, There's a lot of
misconcentration and just not directing it intoenough energy into maybe being better on attack

(11:03):
and being better when in front ofgoal. Again, not to say again
that Canna said didn't really play agood game, but as you mentioned those
couple of goals earlier on with peoplewere just looking around, granted for a
chance here and this is a greatgoal. Let me just say that this
is a fantastic penalty shot. Andwe'll get to this, but overall it's

(11:24):
just set the tone for errors, errors, errors across the board, on
and off the field. I'd sayzero point seven hundred for Craig Gilds his
second goal of the match, fourhundred seventy fifth goal of his career.
It's a penalty kicker because nikol Leonetto, I'm muted. I'm not muted.
Are you muted? Okay, everything'sgood, all right, I just want

(11:48):
to make sure now we get tothe critical moment of the match. First
of all, good saved by Netto. Lennis gets his hand up for a
handball. Hall is made, thecall is challenged, the call is confirmed.
It is a handball on Lennis. There you see the arms extended.
The ball comes office chest first, but then hits his extended arm. Could

(12:11):
have theoretically gone into the net fromthere, so it becomes a penalty kick.
We will talk about this more assoon as the highlight reel is over.
But this is Charlie Gonzales instead ofCraig Giles, who we just saw
moments ago finished a penalty kick againstthe backup Edjemadu. This one is against
Netto, obviously a bigger target, and before we rip him too hard,

(12:35):
this is a great shot that missesby a millimeter. You're muted. I
know it's this. You know toomuch country barbecue or malay. I don't
even know, but country night. But yeah, no, Charlie again,

(12:58):
not a bad shot taker at all, and you would trust them any other
night. But you have Craig Chowserand I know we'll get to that.
But it's a game of inches andcentimeters, and definitely the margins were small,
but Kansas City took advantage as yousee there. I know, can
we back up just to look atthis one more time, because when I
watched this back, I just feltand here we go through. This is

(13:20):
the mishot by Charlie. This isperfect. We just run it from here.
We've got the opportunity. Soccers pullthe keeper right there. That's got
to be a goal. That's gotto be six' five. And now
it's just a breakdown. It's it'sa pass back. It's around Boris,
but it's not in Boris, andthen Marquez is able to just pass around

(13:43):
him and put the ball in thenet. I can't blame that one on
Boris. It was the ball thatwas sent back to him on that play.
And then of course the soccers gofor the sixth attacker, and you
know, it's just two goals against, and instead of seven to four,
it's eight four, and now thanksto Zach record it's nine to four,

(14:03):
which sent me to the history books, meaning the MAASL website and going back
year by year. And you know, it's pretty easy looking for home losses
for the Soccers tony, because there'sso few of them over the course of
the last ten years. And soit didn't take me long to find out

(14:24):
that not only was this the worstregular season home loss since two thousand and
nine modern San Diego Soccers history, keep in mind the Soccers won their first
forty home games in modern franchise history. They had a twenty five match home
streak that was broken last year.So again, the home losses have been
few and far between. And ofthe losses, I believe it's now nine

(14:48):
home losses in the MSL at home, six one goal losses and then a
two. And then you've got thetwo losses this year, five to one
to Chihuahua minus four and nine tofour to Kansas City minus five. The

(15:09):
only other time in the last fifteenyears that the Soccers have lost by five
goals at home was the twenty sixteenPacific Division Finals. Solees de Sonora won
ten to five against San Diego thatwas a playoff loss. Nonetheless, it
was just as bad or worse tenfive, nine to four. You can

(15:30):
make your choice which one of thoseawful scores you'd prefer to embrace as your
favorite. But you know, scurryingto the history books. Last year was
the worst regular season loss the soccershave had in modern history, ten to
four up in Ontario to the Strikers, and now this year nine to four
at home, the worst home lossstatistically in soccer's history. And I think

(15:52):
the morale is also something to keepan eye here, because yeah, last
year, that ten to four wassomething that jump started the soccer into really
looking at themselves and saying, let'snot make that happen again. But this
is not the first time this happens. This season with this level of the
effort that I test of the SanDiego Soccers on the field is not a
positive one. And I really dothink that overall this is this is a

(16:18):
team aspect the team game. Youknow, I was sharing with you what
I really like about team plays isthat it's it. Everybody is going at
the same direction at the same time, and it feels like at times this
team is disjointed from from the benchto the defense, to the midfield,
to the attacking. It's not smooth. It's not silky smooth. And that's
usually what we give attributes to theSan Diego Sockers for being at all times.

(16:42):
And you know, maybe it's justnot that right now. Yeah,
you know, there's a number ofdirections to go. Let me start with
one that's really basic. This isclassic sports one on one. The soccers
had very little pressure on them rightnow. As a club. They came

(17:04):
into this match fourteen and two. They came into the match with an eleven
point lead on their closest opponent. At that moment, they had two losses.
Their closest opponent had five. Seemslike a very difficult gap to bridge.
San Diego has not clinched the topof the Pacific, but they're not

(17:26):
far away. They could have seena world quite easily where they won all
four home matches on this home stand, and by the end of it,
they had the West wrapped up likevery much a possibility, especially if they
beat if they beat Chihuahua next week. So from a San Diego standpoint,
there wasn't a ton going on goinginto this match. It was just a

(17:48):
matter of getting healthy, finding somecontinuity. And I really think a lot
of the emphasis of the week wason hell. It was on rehabbing injured
players, getting injured players back intopractice, getting their fitness up, getting
a level of form. Well,we're not worried about the form. We're

(18:11):
worried about getting the players back onto the floor. And major credit to
Paul Savage and to the soccer's trainingstaff, to doctor Corey and to Anne,
Marie and Kara and everybody else whoworks so hard to get the boys
healthy. Everyone but Leo and Costaback out on the floor on Sunday.

(18:32):
And you know, Leo's a waysaway coast, of course, is still
working back from the broken wrist. He's still got the cast on, so
you got to wait for that castto get off for him to be able
to get back on the floor. But it was a healthy team. But
you know, Tony, one thingI've learned over the years and just over
time and sport by sport, it'snot just indoor. It's one thing to
be healthy, healthy enough to play. It's another to be healthy enough to

(18:56):
kick ass and to dominate. Andwhen you're worried about your health when you're
playing, kind of with one backof mind thought, am I healthy?
Okay? I'm running? Do Ifeel good? I'm running out? Okay?
Can I go full speed? Youknow that that kind of monitor,
right, having that filter, thatmonitor in your head, playing at your

(19:18):
absolute best in situations like this, very very difficult, you know, to
avoid after a slow start, gottwo goals. Charlie had the lovely assist.
Drew Ruggles did not have a goodgame. Pee we you know,
classic pe. We took some fouls, got smashed to the floor a few
times. Flavio still a little bitoff, not quite there yet, not

(19:44):
quite in sync with this club. And so when you have that just even
the slightest bit of tentativeness, eventhe slightest amount of question, are we
all the way back? Are weninety percent back? Are we one hundred
percent back? I think when you'vegot another team on the other side that

(20:04):
is one hundred percent committed to gettingstuck in, to going as hard as
they possibly can, you get acircumstance like we saw last night Sunday night
at Pachanga Arena. Yes, andthat's apparent when you see Gerettropino and that

(20:26):
moment I kind of took that stepback and reminded myself that that injury list
after the Empire match was extremely lengthyand not just for a scratch here and
there. These are excuse me,these are injuries that you know are lingering
and they take time to rehabit. And again, great credit to the Sasanuel
Soccer's medical staff. But when Getatlpinowent down, that's just the reminder of
like, no, he's playing notat one hundred percent, he's playing hurt

(20:49):
and for him to go down ina heap like he did in that moment.
It wasn't in the first quarter whenyou're not really warmed up into the
game. It was right in thethroes of it. And at that point,
as a player, the last thingyou think of is what's hurting,
what's ailing you, until it's toolate or until it's really unbearable, and
that's that's a moment that could havepotentially been scary, but a stark reminder

(21:14):
that this team, like you said, has a waye to go in terms
of being at their absolute best.I agree, you know, with Leo,
with with Gabby or everybody's this teamis incredibly different. It's better,
there's movement, there's not a lotof the workload is spread out more evenly.
We saw Escolto had to do alot of heavy lifting coming out of

(21:37):
his illness, and you know, again this is a lot of there's a
lot of context for a team that'sclinched and a team that's at the top
currently and it's again a marker ofthat standard. But the thing that we
have these conversations and we're kind oflike, you know, looking over and
seeing this is not the soccer's best. It's because we know what's out there.

(22:00):
We know what Chiwa was out there, we know Monterrey could potentially be
out there. If this is happeningin the middle of the season where we
don't usually see the soccers give upthese games or give up these points or
be in these situations, then youknow, I don't think that you know,
this is a very interesting season altogether. I'll say it's it's not ideal

(22:21):
at all. Yeah, it's interestingin that sense of the old Confucius curse,
May you live in interesting times. It's it's very interesting. Not all
of the things that are interesting orgood, but they're fascinating nonetheless. So
yeah, I mean, you canlook at these factors as as part of
the overall picture. A big,big money word for you, the gestault

(22:45):
of what happened at Pachanga Arena onSunday night. You've got one Kansas City
like, we're gonna get TOMSL newsand break down the math a little bit
more. But like Kansas City hasa narrow path to the playoffs, it's
actually not guaranteed. There's nothing theycan do. If Baltimore wins out,
there's nothing they can do. IfBaltimore gets all twenty seven points available to

(23:07):
them, there's nothing they can do. Now. The odds that the Blasts
are going to do that are reallylow because Baltimore has some very tough road
matches ahead. I'm skipping ahead alittle bit in the menu. But if
Casey doesn't win this match on Sunday, they are down to kind of five
must wins in a row, andat a bare, bare bare minimum four

(23:30):
must wins in a row. Thesoccers absolutely not in the same mental headspace
last night. San Diego. Maybe more worried about their health than they
were about the match itself. Andone thing we're learning pretty starkly this season,
Tony, is that this is nota roll out the balls and dominate

(23:51):
soccers squad. They do not havethat level of connectedness and cohesiveness to just
roll out the balls and blow outany random opponent. And that really has
a lot of those factors that gointo it. But even then, like
I think the best soccers that wesaw was potentially stretch of one week where
they barely squeezed out in a Tacomagame, and overall, just we haven't

(24:15):
seen that top peak peak that wewere essentially promised with this roster of returning
soccers, adding Drew Ruggles, addingjust Gaby. Yeah, so it's I
don't know, I don't want tobe so necessarily negative, but just be
realistic. And I think the realisticnotion that yeah, this race for the

(24:37):
shield is kind of said and done, there's nothing really for San Diego to
play. Let's go ahead and havethat mental no to okay, let's go
ahead and try to be our best. We see Gabi out there, he's
still running out because he can.He doesn't have a leg injury, it's
a wrist injury. He can goahead and stay fit. So that's gonna
be interesting to see when he doescome back, if it's an immediate impact,

(24:57):
which I'm pretty sure it will be. But you know, at the
end of the day, this isnot this is not your mama, this
is not your daddy, this isnot your grandpa, this is this is
out This is San Diego Soocers ofnow this season. So it's a matter
of resetting those parameters, I feel, and just really focusing on how to
be the best during the playoffs. One thing that, uh, you know,

(25:18):
when looking back at the match onceagain, I think you and I
on the match broadcast last night,we're mostly praising Kansas City and the comments
coming in in a desperate situation. It's a Comets team, you know,
which we'll talk more about. That'sin some obvious transition right now in terms
of their two best, two mostrecognizable, two most famous players on the

(25:41):
club both being away from the club. Apparently a our struggle or division or
whatever it is. Blue testament cancover all of that stuff, but those
guys aren't there, and the teamhad been losing and losing and losing without
Leo Gibson and without John Sosa.So for them to put the effort together

(26:02):
that they did last night as neutralsup in the broadcast booth, I think
we mostly wanted to praise Kansas City. You may watch back the match broadcast
and hold this in stark contrast tolast Tuesday, when I felt like I
was down the soccer's throat much ofthe second half of the match, or
maybe from the second quarter until theend of the match. And it was

(26:26):
a similar feel in some ways interms of almost just like gloomy Gus soccer.
Things are happening, but they're notworking out for you on the floor.
But also Tuesday felt like they cameout kind of sleepy. Boy.

(26:47):
Maybe they did again on Sunday.I don't know. I mean it was
one one at the half. Butnonetheless, I think Kansas City deserves a
lot of credit. I think that'simportant. I think that more than ripping
the soccers, Oh did they careor effort? I think we gave you
those parameters which you want to avoidbut you just can't. They didn't have

(27:07):
as much to play for as KansasCity. They were probably more worried about
their legs and their health than theywere about the opponent. And they got
it taken to them. They gotit absolutely taken to them by a team
that I know. The soccers thinkthey're better than in terms of the Kansas
City comments, and they wanted itmore. It was very apparent that even
though they were tired, they wereeverything. There's a situation they wanted that

(27:30):
game more and the soccers were putin another situation that they're not really familiar
with. I know, we cantalk about just that sixth attacker situation where
honestly this season when they do gothem to six attacker, it's not a
place that the soccers find themselves usuallyin and so you can tell it's clunky,
it's rusty, the passes aren't smooth. Sess out on their set with

(27:52):
a with a goalkeeper kit, butit feels like it weighs one thousand pounds
on him because it's not the samey'all usually liking it when in wrestling,
when a wrestler puts on a refereeshirt, if they get pushed, they're
down for ten minutes. Right whenthe outdoor player puts on that goalkeeper kit,
they weigh down like it's a mentalthing. But those situations are are

(28:17):
sometimes something that they don't find themselvesin. They don't have that practicing,
they don't have they don't they don'tseem to really know what to do or
how to operate in those situations. And this is something that they're going to
have to get better at if thisis how the rest of the season is
going to go in because if you'rein Chiwawan, you're a sixth attacker.
We've seen it already. It didn'twork. They got crushed as well,

(28:37):
gave up a couple of errors overthere as well. These are the things
they have to work on in general. You know, you can't just not
work on penalties at the end orshootouts at the end of training because oh,
it's probably not going to happen. It can happen, so you better
be proficient at it at least.I do want to get to uh And
this was in the menu, bythe way, it's it's in the chat

(29:00):
as well. But we were gettingto this at this point either way,
which is the single thing that wewere the most critical of. You know,
that's I was kind of long preamblingto get to get there, Nick
and Key in the in the chatbecause I was saying mostly we praised the
comments. Mostly we didn't criticize thesoccers. I think the only moment that
we were really critical of the soccerson Sunday evening was when it was six

(29:23):
' four penalty kick and Craig Chilesdid not take the kick and it was
given to Charlie Gonzales, who,I want to be perfectly clear, is
absolutely one hundred percent capable of takinga PK taking a shootout. If he
was on many other teams, hewould be the obvious number one choice to
take a penalty or a shootout. It just so happens that he is with

(29:47):
on the same roster as the greatestPK taker the Sockers have ever had,
and maybe other than Bronco Sagoda evercould have, in Craig Chiles. So
you know, this is not abad shot. I thought, if it
was the head coach's decision that itwas a deeply, deeply, deeply questionable

(30:14):
decision because you're taking the ball offyour captain's foot and you're putting it on
another player's foot, and the lackof confidence, the anti confidence that could
come from a moment just like wesaw of the ball going bar down instead
of going bar down and in,you can have a literally game ending effect.
And I do believe that play fundamentallyended the game for San Diego if

(30:38):
they score there. I think they'vegot a great chance to come all the
way back and win. So afterthe match I asked Craig directly and on
the record, what was the situationand why didn't he take the second penalty?
And the answer I received is animportant one. It was Craig's decision.
It was Craig Childs's decision. Hehad the ball, he had the

(31:00):
penalty. That was the coach's callwas for Craig Childs to take the penalty.
However, Craig is a leader,He's been the captain a long time,
and he's got the type of latitudewith our coaching staff that goes above
and beyond an average player. AndCraig told me that he believed that it
was the right decision to give Charliethe shot because he was sure a that

(31:26):
Charlie would make the shot, whichis confidence in your teammate, and B
he thought that would light up Charliefor the rest of the match because he
hadn't seen the ball go into thenet. He did have that lovely assist
for Tavoy in the third quarter. But Craig's thinking was that not only would
this lead to six five, butit would lead to six six and seven
to six and eight six and SanDiego taking over the match because Charlie is

(31:51):
kind of lit up. You know, he's brought up to ten by the
moment. So it was a veryunselfish decision, was a very it's a
it's a decision based on belief. It's a decision based on instilling belief.
So it's coming from nothing but positiveground. Very very difficult to criticize Craig

(32:14):
Childs for making that decision in themoment. You know, analytics boy can
say it's the wrong choice and becorrect in saying that Craig child should take
every penalty the Sockers have, everlike. Nick Perrera takes every penalty that
the Stars have, ever Like.He doesn't just lay one off to Juice
Cox because he wants to heat upJuice Cox. He just takes every single

(32:35):
penalty and then he tries to collectthe MVP award at the end of the
year. You know, I mean, it's cool, I get it,
but Craig should take every penalty forSan Diego. But his reasoning, what
are you going to say other thanokay, I get it. Yeah,
and I really hope this is alearning experience for everybody involved, right from
Phil to Craig to Chadley, isyou know you live, you live by

(33:00):
it, and that's exactly what happened. Like Craig thought he was going to
go ahead and be that leader andsay, here you go, this is
going to bring up the entire teamand it's going to fire everybody up,
but also take into consideration the repercussionsof it and better be ready to then
bounce back and bring your team backup from that moment. And so that's
something that I don't think that soccerswere necessarily equipped with altogether, was being

(33:23):
able to have that possibility in yourmind of what if this doesn't go in,
What if this doesn't go six'five? What are we going to
do? Is there enough time?Yes? Absolutely, But because of the
headspace that everybody found themselves in afterthat penalty miss, you know it,
obviously it went to reviews, sothen you're just kind of standing there realizing,

(33:44):
well, this might be not ano goal and if it doesn't,
that's a double whammy in a sensewhere it's not only did you miss it
at the first time, they wentand checked it and you know, yeah,
one hundred percent you missed it.That's on you. But again,
it's being able to bounce back fromthose moments, and that's the championship mentality,
to be able to know how tonavigate those situations on the field,

(34:07):
regardless of any In every call goingback, I heard I don't even know
who I heard kind of point outat the referee. We were too distracted
by the referee. I don't thinkthe referee had anything to do with this
match. They've been in soccers havebeen plenty of matches where the referees had
something to do with the match andthe result and overall rose above and move
forward with a win. But Idon't think that's the case here. And

(34:27):
again, I hope this is atotal team learning experience altogether, and just
they hope to get better from hereon out. There have been matches this
year where the soccers have fallen behindand really didn't look good, you know.
I mean at Chihuahua home versus Chihuahuaobviously last night, you know,

(34:49):
did not look good. I thoughtwhen they came from behind in Tacoma,
which quite frankly could have should havewould have been another loss on the schedule
San Diego. I mean, theyabsolutely should have lost that game. They
didn't. It's ridiculous. It's kindof a miracle that they didn't lose that
game. But that's that's all.But everything in terms of their division lead

(35:10):
is that win up at Tacoma, those two points. So that made me
think, Okay, we've turned acorner the way that they gutted out a
victory in Ontario after being so shorthanded. But you know, there's also a
fallout factor. And I know it'sa week later. I do know it's

(35:30):
a week later, So you'd say, oh, it's a week later,
it's a video game. Everyone's backup green bars, one hundred percent,
plug them in. They're refreshed. But last week, not only did the
soccers play three matches in six days, but the second two matches they ran
in two's the whole match every positionexcept forward and then by the end forward

(35:52):
two. You know, by theend of last Sunday's match, it was
three defenders for two positions and onlyone break rotation out of every three shifts.
And that's going to have an impacton a team as well. They're
not going to have the full tankeven a week later. And I think

(36:13):
we saw that It's kind of like, you know, the pitcher who throws
a no hitter but throws one hundredand thirty six pitches and then yeah,
he got full rest. Oh evenhe gave him an extra day's rest going
into his next start, and hestill gave up six runs in the first
three innings. What's going on?I thought he was fresh, you know,
And I do think that has apart to it. So all this

(36:37):
we're about to get into. Tome, three things that are structural that
the soccers can and should improve upon, one of which they may not be
able to, but the other twothey can and should improve upon to get
to that championship level this year,to be able to win the championship this
year. The other things we're talkingabout, these are kind of explainers' excuses.

(37:00):
Is however you want to put it, for what's happening right now,
like for what's happening the last weekor two and the last four points being
dropped off the side of the shipfor the San Diego soccers. But let's
talk about the things. I thinkthat the things that are real and concrete.
The first you can't change, Tony. The first you can't change.

(37:22):
There's no Soccers too. I thinkit's just very clear and stark that last
year when the Soccers had depth issues, you could reach down and you've got
guys like Poyo and Irvin Mohica andIsmail Rojo that are waiting. Some of

(37:42):
those guys were visaed, you know, but you had guy even Callahan last
year at a soccers two level. You had players that you could pull up
that have been coached by Renee ortieves that have been wearing the soccers shield,
that have been playing the matches, and you could have a little bit
of confidence that you could integrate thoseplayers. Wan Gonzalez was playing for Soccers

(38:05):
too for a good portion of lastyear. And now when you get past
the first sixteen guys for San Diego, you know you've got one. When
you have as many as two injuries, right, you know, Leo Costa
hurt. Now you've got Juan Salazarin the lineup. He was a college
draft pick. He played the lastcollege season for Point Lomanazarin has no indoor

(38:29):
experience. You've got kids like JulianGarcia and Edward will Lett and Quentin Ivy.
These guys weren't open tryout. Theseare open tryout players. These aren't
coming up through the system guys,so when it's time for them to play.
You know, Max Rodriguez, thirdround pick in the MSL draft,

(38:50):
he came out of the combine aswell. These are all good kids with
great hearts that have hopefully a brightfuture with San Diego. But my point
is that today, when it's timefor them to play, the choices instead
to have the veterans who are olderwith older legs run in two and put
even more of a drain on thebattery, so to speak. So that

(39:15):
lack of depth for San Diego thisseason, that's not going to change between
here and the end of the year. Even if they made a move and
tried to add somebody, they're notgoing to be able to add the three
or four guys of depth that theyhad last year that you could count on
and call up in a pinch toget the job done. Yeah, the
soccer's DNA just doesn't seem to bethere at the bottom right where you usually

(39:38):
have and can go into younger, fresher legs because even last year, right,
these veterans that we see this yearthat we always you know, say
this grizzled veteran is doing everything thatthey can. They were doing it last
year, and last year they weregetting injured as well. Like that fatigue
was in there too, and goingdown to the well to get those M

(39:59):
two plays to get that because theywere also match fit. Those players are
also match fit. They know howto go. No slide on on Salazar
or anybody who's coming into it.But you really need to have the players
in the lab and you really haveto cook him up together. And that's
just not happening. And you havealso over Maclifornia. That was another avenue

(40:21):
where you know for M two forplayers to come in. That's not that's
not a thing this year, andit's really just a I think last year
they got lucky because they had Mtwo and they had good quality in M
two. I saw Jason pain beingbrought up. You know, he brought
the pain train in M two lastyear. And he's not available to bring

(40:42):
the pain train in San Diego. He's doing his thing over over East and
he went to Saint Louis. Ithink they released him, but I have
no idea where he is. He'sin the wind, he's somewhere in there.
But at the end of the day, like, yeah, no,
this M two situation, I don'tthink people put in no thought into it
or stock, but that's incredibly valuableto have as an organization. So you

(41:06):
know, nothing we can do aboutthat. Now it's the middle of the
season. We're about to end theregular season, and you know, you
got what you got, and thatcan be part of the load management strategy
that's happening and saying, hey,you know, maybe run at sixty seventy
percent for this match. Is itgoing to be enough? Maybe? And
sometimes it's not. Sometimes you allownine and that's just the nature of the
game. This time, Alan Crespow, I'm just remembering back in my Alan

(41:30):
Crispo, another M two guy that'sa Monterey player. He's starting from Monterey,
is starting guys who are soccer's playerson loan that are killing the league.
Getsmail. Rojos might win Defender ofthe Year, which we always knew,
we always knew was in him,Like everyone knew that that was in
him, that ability if he wason a team where he was allowed to

(41:51):
eat and not on a team wherehe was the sixth guy you know,
in his in his position group. So that's frustrating and listen, that's not
going to change. So you know, even if you had the same personnel,
you would have games every week whereMax Rodriguez and Edward Lead and Garcia
and Ivy at all were running andplaying and gaining that experience, and they

(42:16):
just don't have that. That wasa budget situation for San Diego. Our
money's in the arena. It's goingto the arena. A lot of things
changed for this team to make surethat that arena was finished being built.
This year, some of them arehurting them on and off the field.
It's part of a you know, risk calculation to get to twenty twenty four

(42:37):
fall and the soccers are going toget there. But this was part of
the risk calculation that's not working outon the floor now. Point two Defense,
the soccers are allowing more than agoal per match, more on average

(42:57):
than they did the past couple ofyears. San Diego this season has conceded
ninety goals. So ninety goals, got my little calculator here. Seventeen games,
five point three five point three goalsper match. The soccers have been

(43:19):
at four and four point one thelast two years. Last season, in
twenty four matches, the soccers concededninety nine goals. The year before that,
in twenty four matches, the Soccersconceded ninety eight goals. So right
now, with seven matches to go, they would have to allow nine goals

(43:39):
total in seven matches in order tomatch last year's defensive output. Obviously,
they are on a pace to allowone hundred and twenty five goals this year.
So the defense has taken a significantstep back in twenty twenty three twenty

(44:02):
four and it is frustrating because thedefense did not take a step back in
terms of quality of personnel. Infact, Seesarsera and Mitchell Cardin has had
their contracts extended in this offseason.Drew Ruggles was signed to a free agent

(44:23):
contract, Pee Wee had his contractextended. Pino is still here. These
are all players other than one ManuelRojo, and we have talked about his
situation and how he did not gethimself north of the border in time.
Frankly, I think one man roRojo's impact on this team was offensive and

(44:46):
not very much in terms of defensivegoal prevention. I think he was the
counter attack king for San Diego, not the goal prevention king. The goal
prevention kings are here, Mitchell Pino, Serda Pee Wee and no knock on

(45:07):
the man A player I love aman you know, a person I've known
and I'm friends with, have knowndeeply. These are just numbers, Okay,
these are numbers. Boris Pardo rightnow has the lowest safe percentage of
his entire MSL career. His rookieseason with the Wichita B fifty two's he

(45:29):
had a point zero zero one highersafe percentage than he does right now.
At six sixty five. His goalsagainst average is the third highest of his
career, and the numbers are prettysimilar to twenty nineteen twenty, And this

(45:50):
year is starting to remind me oftwenty nineteen twenty, and the soccers didn't
have twenty nineteen twenty and poorly forthem, because it ended poorly for everyone,
COVID shut down the season. Butat the moment that it was shut
down, the soccers were sixteen andfive and it was very clear that they
were not going where they wanted thatyear, and there was disconnection in the

(46:15):
back and it was tough, andBors's numbers weren't quite where they are this
year. They were a little bitbetter, but there they were thin shouting
distance of this year compared to histhree three goalkeeper of the Year awards in
the past five seasons. So always, always, in defense goalkeeping sports,

(46:37):
the goalkeeper's numbers are a reflection ofthe team's work and also the goalkeeper's work,
but also the team's work. Sothere's always blame to go around,
there's always praise to go around, and every member of the defensive group right

(46:58):
now has to reevaluate what they're doingbecause the level is lower for these great
players then it has been in pastyears. The numbers are there, they
are stark, and you can sayI am still every inch the player that
I was a year ago, twoyears ago, three, four years ago,
and I will believe each and everyone of you. You could pound
me in the chest and grab meby the lapels and tell me I'm still

(47:21):
the same guy, and I say, yes, you're the same guy.
Why are we giving up one pointtwo more goals per game than we were
the past two years? What canwe do to fix this? And you
look at the numbers and then theamount of players that have been playing together.
Essentially, you know, Mitchek, cut of the nuts in the beginning
of the season, had a coupleof weeks off as well due to injury.

(47:45):
We've seen that Drew came into theseason also carrying an injury as well,
and so he's been trying to getback onto this level. And he
was honest when he spoke about wantingto be in the soccers and this is
the standard of defense of soccer herein the MSL. And that's true.
That's the bread and butter. Sowhat happens when your bread and butter is

(48:06):
not breading and buttering? You haveto go ahead and make a change.
You have to either switch the mentalityof saying, Okay, well maybe we're
not that defensive stronghold that we havebeen. Let's work a little bit more
on the midfield. Let's try tooutscore the other team. But the outscoring
aspect just isn't happening because of thedisconnect also up front. So again,
I will always defend a goalkeeper whenI can, and I agree with that

(48:28):
goalkeeper's numbers are reflection of the entireteam. But looking at the time that
he had off as well, doesthat mean that that time that he had
because of that red card, thatsuspension, did that affect his gameplay?
Coming in? Perhaps was he alittle bit cold. When he came back,
he did well. He was verysick, but he still did well.
And like I said, I seethe Boris Parto that I always see

(48:51):
out there, hustling, doing hisbest, you know, just giving one
hundred and ten percent at all times. But I also saw a team that
saw Xavier on it that did prettywell as well and held their own.
And again, this isn't sort ofany sort of narrative of, oh,
you know it should be Xavier, maybe we should try to test them.
We should know this is through andthrough Boris Partos team Boris Potos position and

(49:16):
until otherwise, you know stated, this is going to be how it's going
to go for the rest of theseason at least. But those questions have
to be asked and it's only goingto be answered by the man in the
mirror, and that's the players themselves, and then come together in a giant
group mirror and say, all right, guys, what are we going to
do here? Where are we gettinghurt? Where are we gonna where?

(49:36):
Where are we're getting exposed? Isit these mental lapses when it comes to
playing out the back because they liketo play out the back. That's always
what they do. They build, they wait, they're patient, but they're
maybe being a little bit too patient. Maybe they're holding onto the ball.
Maybe they need to secure the balla little bit more in that transition,
because there have been a lot ofmistakes in the transition from defense to the
midfield, and that's what been what'sbeen causing a lot of these mistakes.

(50:00):
We saw it at you wahwah.Yeah, it's a small field, but
they kept happening. These things keephappening, and it's a pattern. And
I don't want to blame anything specifically, but once you start noticing a pattern,
you have to solve the root causeof it and not say, well,
the symptoms are this. The symptomsare that. You can treat the
symptoms all you want, but you'restill going to get your butt handed to
here and there. And that's justthe root of it. If there's one

(50:22):
thing specifically in terms of play thatI would discuss, I would discuss actually
an offensive aspect of the defense, which is getting out of the back.
I think the soccers at times havestruggled to get out of the back.
We saw in that highlight reel. You know, obviously goal six was a
direct turnover from the goalkeeper's foot toconcede a goal. But we've seen a

(50:45):
number of times, and I'll tellyou this, man. You know,
I've been to I don't know howmany hundred soccers practices I've been to,
but almost all of them, ninetypercent of them start with possession, which
is everybody is out on the fieldand you start with you can only have
a touch or then two touches, and then it's called all in. You
can have as many touches as youwant, but it's getting out of those

(51:05):
spots. You know, there's there'stwenty guys in the defensive midfield and you
got to bepppp and get the ballout of there. But also those drills
are done at a certain speed, none of this half speed. You know,
they're all competitive, they're all outthere, but it's kind of you
know, and I'm seeing the playsout of the back kind of being played
at the speed of the possession drill. It's moving, it's coming over here,

(51:28):
now, it's going over there. Now, it's going over here.
But when a team comes in incase, he did it a few times
and just bubble and Empires did it. If you just jumps, you just
gets in you. Chihwaba obviously wasin their shirt all sixty minutes of the
matches they've been playing. All ofa sudden, that goes from being oh,
yeah, we can possess possessed it. Oh, I'm in the heat,
I'm in the blender, I've gota guy in my back, I've

(51:50):
got a guy in my hip,I'm fighting. It's it's this hard just
to get out of the back. And then you get those those turnovers,
you get those careless passes, youget those balls that they're just kind of
punted into possession for the other team. And we've seen teams be able to
possess on the soccers, you know, more at home than I think we've
seen in a long, long longtime. Uh. And part of me

(52:15):
says, a little bit of itis that it's it's when you've got the
ball in the back, you've gotto get it up the fleet, up
the field. You've got to getit to your skill guys. Not that
the defenders aren't skilled, but you'vegot to get it up to the scorers.
And sometimes we're kind of noodling inthe back and get caught and it
get caught in a press as aresult. But you know, in the

(52:37):
end, when we talk about defense, what needs to change, what should
change? My answer is nothing. This is the group you invested in.
This is the group you built, you bought, and you reupt all the
way across the board. You're notgoing to make a change in net.

(52:59):
You're not going to make a changeof primary on ball defender, off ball
defender. One. Melwoo Rojo isn'twalking through that door. And are you
telling me that there were even ifyou traded for Robert Palmer, Like are
you are you one hundred percent surethat he's stepping in and he's gonna do

(53:19):
better than cardon this or he's gonnado beat I mean, maybe he's doing
great this year, But like thereare very very few people in the league
that you would say, well,we just need to add this guy and
take one of these guys down.Who are you gonna take out Pee Wee
Ruggles? Like Ruggles would have beenthe number one defender free agent in the
league last year. You added himto the group. What are you gonna

(53:40):
get rid of him? Like? What what are we saying here? To
me? This is simple? Andmaybe maybe Susan Barber's right, Maybe this
is Mitchell's fault. He cut hishair. I mean I was upset when
I saw he was upset when Isaid, who's that guy? Yeah,
like what wrong? Get a wigfor Friday? Just buy a wig.

(54:04):
No, nothing needs to change. The group needs to do better. This
is this is our group and theyneed to play better. But what if
it's just for now? Craig,Like, that's a frustrating part, right,
because we know they can do better. We know what they're capable of,
even at half speed at times, and it seems like they're not even

(54:28):
at that half speed and they aregoing at that. Okay, well,
you know we can turn it onlater, we can come back with the
soccers. We can do it.And you know, all right, they
got a couple of goals on us, it's not over. It's not over
until it's like, oh it's over. We need to go ahead and up
the tempo, up up the anteand it's already too late. You really
can't get going. And it's speakingabout you know, starting those plays off

(54:50):
the back and that pace, atthat practice space, at that drill pace.
That's exactly what happens when they transitionfrom the midfield over into the attack.
They are at that molass pace wherethey're looking and yeah, that's an
option over there. I have thisoption over here, and then you just
end up overthinking it and instead ofbeing lethal and boom directly to the point,
bang bang bang goal, you're justoverthinking things off over here. Now,

(55:14):
let's just pass it back. Okay, let's pass to the side,
lateral pass, later pass, latterpass in that you create an error.
The other team is being patient.Kansas City did this very well. They
are very patient and boom, they'llstrike back and you don't have an answer
for that at that point. Allright. We talked about the depth of
the club. That's a structural issuethat will not change. We talked about

(55:36):
the defense of the club. Thatis a positional group that will not change.
It just needs to play better. This is the most obvious, most
concrete, most glaring, alarming problemfor the San Diego Sockers. And by
the way, honorable mention Susan justput up discipline. Our discipline has been

(55:58):
pretty agreed, pretty shit this year. Straight up, it's been pretty bad.
Way too many yellow cards, wayway, way way way too many
yellow cards this year. But thatain't at either because we've been stupid in
past years two the power play. The power play is a friggin embarrassment.

(56:24):
I'm not gonna go full explicit tabokay. In England you can say yeah.
In England you can say the Sword all the time. It's no
problem. The power play is afriggin embarrassment. It is at twenty seven
percent after Sunday night. It isthirteenth of thirteen teams in the MAASL thirteenth

(56:52):
of thirteen teams, and the Soccershave ten power play goals for and they
have ten power play goals against. They are dead even zero plus minus on
special teams. By comparison. Lastyear, the Soccers were plus twelve in

(57:16):
special teams. Two years ago, they were plus twenty one in special teams.
This year dead even. That's terrible. Our buddy Eddie Traheue, who's
also in the chat, put togethersomething very quick. This is just one
clip from last night compared to aclip from the finals in twenty twenty two,

(57:43):
but it shows something that is Imean, you're gonna be able to
see it quite clear as day. This is from last night, and as
the ball gets to ta void, take a look at where Brandon is and
look at that wide open, yawningpath to the net. Yes, Berto
Palmer is in between Neto's there. It's not an obvious passing angle. But

(58:07):
you've got the dummy through Felipe asan option. But Brandon is way out
high watching. Now keep it rolling, take a look at a set piece,
but still not dissimilar. Where's Brandon. He's keeping an eye on things.
He's getting to that back of thenet. He's getting to that back
post here with that option. Wheredoes it go too long? Too long

(58:37):
on the toe? First of all, too long on the toe here.
Everything is too slow in that clipthat you just saw. Now, Callen
asks a great question. Does Leo'sabsence hurt the power play unit? Of
course? Just Coasto's absence at thepower play unit? Of course. Of

(59:01):
course, those are your two bestball movers, playmakers, So you can
be you can be like that. And I'm not that Callen is being like
that. I could. I'm justsaying you could simply chalk it up to
injury. Go Well, yeah, maybe your two best playmakers aren't out there,

(59:22):
but guys, the five of thesoccers are putting on the floor.
Almost every single team in the leaguewould take from a talent standpoint as their
power play unit. Almost every teamin the league would take this group the
talent that's on the floor. Andwe've seen them go to even lesser versions

(59:45):
of this and having Serta and Rugglesout there and Christian and have more success
than what we've seen of the onthe power play. This is what needs
to change for the this team. And I want to be clear and stark
when I say this. If theSan Diego Soccers aren't working on the power

(01:00:07):
play at least a half an hourevery practice, okay, twenty minutes every
practice every practice, it is malpractice. It's a definition, MAO practice bad
practice. Okay, they need goodpractice. This team needs to take this

(01:00:30):
seriously and that means getting everybody intoa video room with every beep beep beep
power play that this team has had, every single one of them, the
ten that worked in the twenty seventhat didn't, and go through those plays

(01:00:51):
and watch it and then drill itand drill it and drill it and drill
it and drill it and drill itagain, because you know what I see.
What I see is the lack ofspark. I see the lack of
that quickness, that sharpness that comesfrom an instinctiveness that comes from practice,

(01:01:13):
that comes from knowing instinctively, Ineed that ball to move. I need
that ball to go. I can'thold the ball over here. I can't.
I can't take that touch. Iknow it's gonna get bogged down,
because it's gotten bogged down every daythat we tried in practice. You need
snap, snap, snap, likeas soon as that ball got to the
corner, it needed to be goingLaterally, when you see one touch movement

(01:01:36):
on the power play, then youknow a team is working right there in
the corner. If Craig was onthe one touch, the passes open across
the free throw line to felipe rightthere, but it's not there because you're
taking that second touch. Its splitsecond. What changes is drilling? What
changes is having the repetition? Well, why aren't they doing it exactly?

(01:01:58):
Why aren't they doing it? That'sthe question that needs to be asked of
this coaching staff. And guess what, I'm here on the show asking it.
Okay, this needs to happen.I know the players watch this back.
They don't get to set the practiceagenda, but maybe it's time that
they're knocking on that door, andif any coach gets you need to practice
the power play every day. It'sridiculous that it's not hasn't happened to this

(01:02:22):
level, and it's obviously going tocost this team a championship if if it's
not improved, it's obviously going tocost this team a power play not scored
in a game that winds up goingto overtime that they lose. And if
that's me being negative, Noah, that's me wanting this team to win the

(01:02:44):
Cup this year. They've got todedicate to being the offensive stars that I
know they are, and that meansscoring on half your power plays twenty seven
percent. Let me tell you who'she Tay you was at the match last
night, and I don't know whyhe's not in textive, he's been around
it, but BUZI was at thegame last night when I told him where,

(01:03:05):
and he looked it up on hisphone and he couldn't believe it.
He literally could not believe that theteam was twenty seven percent. He said,
when we came in here in Ontario, what we would say is you
simply cannot give up a penalty becausethe soccers are gonna score, they're gonna
score every time, so you can'tgive up a penalty. And haven't I
said that on the show too,Tony. When you score fifty percent on

(01:03:25):
the power play, teams know theycan't foul you. Teams know they can't
use physicality and getting in your legsand getting stuck in and fouling the beep
out of you and getting you madand getting you irritated as a strategy because
you're just gonna calmly go plus oneplus two. And when you're plus two,
when the soccers are plus two onyou, how the hell are you

(01:03:47):
gonna win the game? Trying towin the rest of the game at even
strength, are behind strength at minustwo, You're not gonna do it.
So we see teams be physical withthe soccers. We're seeing teams get up
in the skirt. We're seeing teamspress the soccers up and down the field
and when and the soccers who leadthe league in power play opportunities, lead

(01:04:10):
the league in blue cards drawn. They have ten power play goals twenty seven
percent. It must change, mustchange, and unless it changes, nothing's
changing. I couldn't agree with youmore. And it goes down to it
and even in simpler layman in termsin Spanish. No, the product of

(01:04:35):
the hen or los uebos in thesense, right, that's something that's in
those moments. I don't necessarily seethat spark in that play, right,
Yeah, everybody's taking that extra second, that extra touch, to extra everything.
But even beyond that, if youtake a look at the off the
ball movement or the lack thereof itsjust no, there's just no energy there.

(01:04:58):
There's just no sense really wanting tohave that nose for goal, nose
for attack, get into get intothe into the box, be in front
of the goalkeeper, bother them, just be that pass, just go and
be exactly what this team has beenasked to do. If you look at
the numbers, if you look atthat trend. Last year, the San
Diego Sockers were asked to improve onthe power play because they were on a

(01:05:21):
downward trajectory. They came in thisseason and that was a point of emphasis
that this is going to be theteam that's going to fix this these issues.
They cleaned it up, and Ijust don't see it. I see
a lot of flat feet that arenot in the zone when they need to
be. And that's gonna be exactlywhat's gonna have hamper this team. You
can't just say we're the San DiegoSockers. It's going to turn on at

(01:05:43):
some point. We're gonna turn iton in the fourth quarter, because we've
seen the teams be smart to thatand really put take it to the soccer
and say, all right, cool, I'm gonna I'm gonna piss you off,
and you're what you're gonna do.You're gonna react, You're gonna cost
yourself self implosure, self destruction. We took care of it, and we're
still going to laugh at you andyour face. And that's what we're seeing
from these teams who are smartening up. This is a strategy. This is
a strategy that is being employed andmaybe not intentionally, but it's there and

(01:06:09):
it's paying dividends, and it's payingin other teams realizing this too. Because
it's not like these losses or thesetough games have been dissimilar. They're very
similar to how they break down. The effort of the soccers at certain points
in the third quarter kind of goesdown, the intensity goes down, and
that's when they hit and that's whenthe opponents note Okay, they're gonna go
ahead and be vulnerable here. Let'sgo ahead and do some fouls. You

(01:06:30):
know what, they're not gonna scoreanyways. Our guy's gonna be in the
box for two minutes. They're importantplayer now is going to be in the
box for five minutes because they startedmouthing off on somebody. They started mouthing
off. Their bench is mouthing off. They're costing themselves. Let them beat
themselves. And I think that's whatit's been. Yes, the comments got
that win. Yes the Outlaws almostgot a win, but at the end
of the day, it's the soccersbeating the soccers. And that's just inexcusable.

(01:06:51):
If you want to go ahead andbe that next level team that other
institutions like Shihuahua and Monterey are rightnow there you go, drop it,
absolutely beautiful. Well, listen, last thing on this. As we move
forward, you can make a changeon the power play. Every coach knows

(01:07:15):
those five spots are the most preciousspots on the team, the five spots
in the power play unit. Andtrust me when I tell you it's a
matter of status, it's a matterof ego, it's a matter of clout.
Every one of the guys that isa scorer on this team believes they
should be on the power play. And Escoto thinks he should be on the

(01:07:40):
power play. Tavoi, Craig Leo, Charlie Costa, keep Felipe, keep
going down the list, Drew Serda. All of them think they should be
on the power play. If thispower play unit stinks, change the members,
change them, switch it up.And you know how you do that

(01:08:04):
by drilling the bleep out of itand having an A unit and a B
unit and a C unit and actuallyhaving them work together in practice, in
training. You need that level ofdedication to this aspect of the match because
it's killing this team right now.And that's a place that a coaching staff

(01:08:29):
can make changes. You can't changeour defensive personnel group like you can't do
it, but you can make switches. You can pick out the guy on
film when you do a dedicated filmsession looking at all twenty seven misspower play
opportunities and running through them all andstopping them and pointing out the issues.
If you find the guy that youthink did the worst in that group,

(01:08:53):
hey vote him out of the tribe, not off the team. But off
the power play unit, you know, give his spot to somebody else that's
gonna execute the motions. Because whatI'm really not seeing this year from this
team is motions. It plays onthe power play, we're not seeing where
it goes here. But then thisguy crashes. As Eddie was showing in

(01:09:14):
this video, you know, ballgoes left, but this man's moving right,
and they know as the ball's goingleft, I'm making this cut.
Where are the cuts? It's perimeterperimeter, perimeter, perimeter, and then
occasionally if it gets into the voidto void, tries to make that quick
pass out of the middle. Butgenerally it's just been going around the umbrella,
down into the corner, around theumbrella again, try to get it

(01:09:35):
into the middle, knocked out, cleared. That's what we've been seeing from
this group. So if you don'tlike what you see, you know,
as Bruce Bochie said, you know, if you keep doing what you're doing,
you'll keep getting what you're getting. And if the soccers want to keep
down this path, they're going tocontinue to be a one fourth of the
time converting power play team. Andwe say this because we care, Craig.

(01:09:59):
It's not because because we want theteam to win. It's not because
we were just asking them to dosomething impossible. We know the elements are
there, the ingredients are there, but they need to go ahead and turn
on the stove themselves because it's notgoing to be any type of good cooking.
It's just going to have a bunchof stuff lying around, and that's
what we're getting. Two minutes ofbad play is really what we're seeing here.

(01:10:20):
Like these two minutes are very frustrating. When I see a power play,
I don't get excited anymore. Idon't think, Okay, this is
going to be I just think thisis going to be another opportunity for them
to keep adding and dropping in thatpercentage of conversion for power plays. That's
unfortunately where my headspace is at,and it almost seems like the soccers have
that mental headspace as well. Soyou got to take that out. You

(01:10:41):
gotta go ahead and just just forgetabout it. Forget about it, learn
about it, learn from it,but really move forward in being critical in
these moments. And I mean,if really, if you have those goals
in those situations, I can thinkof so many games it could have gone
so much smoother this season and you'rereally going, you're really going to the

(01:11:02):
playoffs based on the talent that youhave. I can't say that's the team
aspect that the soccers have had andhave been incredibly dominant that have put them
in this position. Individual talents andmaybe one or two year connections with Ruggles
and Craig, and you got ChadLee and Escoto and when Goby was good,
Goby was healthy, he was onthere contributing as well. But I

(01:11:23):
don't see that what you're saying,that team aspect where everybody's involved, everybody's
moving, the confusion is there forthe defense and it's just three or four
options for you to put that ballin the back of the net. You
don't even have that because you're nottaking the opportunities. You're not creating that
chaos. You're waiting too much onthe ball. Just shoot the ball.
Just shoot it. It's going togo ahead and go more than likely where
you're going to be placed that becauseyour placement is still good. The players

(01:11:45):
are where they're supposed to be,but they're just not moving into better positions.
Well, listen, you know we'repassionate for this team because we love
this team. You know, I'vebeen around this team since two thousand and
nine. I love this club.I've got six championship brings. I'm thrilled
and blessed. If I never getanother one in my life, I will
forever thank the San Diego Soccers forwhat they've given me and my family.

(01:12:08):
Trust me when I tell you that, if they never win another one in
my lifetime and I live to bea ripe old age, I will always
be thankful of the San Diego Soccers. But they could win the championship this
year. They absolutely could win thechampionship this year. And all that we're
looking for is for this team toput its absolute goal into that. And

(01:12:30):
I'm not questioning the player's heart orcommitment. I am asking about this.
Are we practicing the power play atthe level and at the skill level and
with the thought and intentionality that isneeded to succeed? And I'm here to
tell you the answer is no.Right now, Okay, And here's the
last thing I want to say, because I want to move on. MASL

(01:12:51):
news is coming. There's a lotof executives in the league that have been
like, stop talking about the soccers. I want to hear you talk about
my team. You know, Tony, I'm a huge fan of reality competition
shows, reality TV, but especiallyreality competition shows. The thing that you

(01:13:12):
need, there's skill sets that youneed to succeed. And the number one
is probably not clear to the tothe naked eye, it's self awareness.
Yeah, you need to be selfaware. You need to always be able
to recognize where you are in thegame. Am I high? Am I
low? Do I seem high butI'm actually not that high? Who is

(01:13:34):
really my friend? And who's notreally my friend? You know? What
are the power alliances and how arethey changing? Being self aware is the
key to success because you understand whereyou are and where you need to be.
I don't think the soccers completely understandwhere they are and where they need
to be right now. I thinkit's very very easy to point up fourteen
and three and go for fourteen tothree. Shut the shut up. We're

(01:13:57):
fourteen and three, We're great,We're going to win the Pacific. Who
cares? You know? But Iwant to win the championship. So that's
why that's why we're kind of comingdown on this tonight. You can't change
the defensive group. They've just gotto play better. You can't change that.
There's no M two this year. It's not going to change. It's
on the player group that's here thisyear. Nothing to be done about it.

(01:14:19):
You can change the power play. You can change this. You can
work on it. You can makeit the number one focus of the club.
And if you focus on a detailthat intently, you might be shocked
at how many other details come intofocus as a result of focusing on that
detail. Okay, ma asl news, times up, executives, you can

(01:14:42):
focus in now, that's yes.No, If I can just add just
one last thing, I'm sorry wheneverI didn't do my chores, Craig,
my dad would tell me this.If you don't want me to keep reminding
you and telling you and illing atyou to take out the trash, just
shut my mouth up and take outthe trash without me telling you. Just

(01:15:05):
take up the track. Just atthe end of the season. If it
happens and this has workedne, You'regonna shut my mouth up and I will.
I will recognize that, and Iwill applaud you for it because I
love that. I love it whenthe work is put. Just take out
the trash. Shout the trash,Shout the track. That's it. You

(01:15:27):
muted yourself. You got so excitedyou you put yourself on mute. Check
you out, kid, just mutedyourself out of joy. Unmute yourself.
You're gonna You're gonna give everyone aheart attack, all right, and may
I sell news? There you are? Thank god? Yeah, we're good.

(01:15:47):
My dad probably got the cord, yeah said, take out the trash
and shut the mic off or takeout the trash. Uh. Monterey finds
themselves in a tie match on theroad in the last minute of the fourth
quarter again, and the score again, and they win again, and the

(01:16:11):
Flash are now seventeen and oh thisseason? Are they eighteen and oh?
Hang on, they are eighteen andoh? They are eighteen and oh.
They are six wins away from thefirst twenty four to oh season in the
history of the Major Arena Soccer League. If you thought this was a rough

(01:16:34):
podcast in the soccers, I wantto offer again, from the same statistical,
leaning analytical mind, a note ofpositivity. Monterey this year is eighteen
and oh. They are eight andoh in one and two goal matches eight

(01:16:57):
and oh, they found themselves overand over on the road, tied in
the last minute of the fourth quartertwice in Milwaukee going to overtime in a
tie game. I am perfectly finewith Monterey winning every one goal match all
the way to the playoffs, becausethat shoe drops, baby, the other

(01:17:24):
shoe falls. And I will pointto twenty eighteen nineteen when our glorious Sockers
the twenty three and one season wentsix and oh in golden goal overtime,
and then guess what, they gotto the playoffs and they got to golden
goal overtime against the Monterey Flash andVaka put it in and the soccers lost.

(01:17:49):
And all of that six and ohand winning every one goal game in
the entire year, you lost theone that mattered, and that was the
only thing that mattered. So Montereylooks unbeatable. I am here to tell
you Monterey is beatable. They havebeen in matches, and I don't rate
the East as high as the Westin terms of the top. They have

(01:18:11):
been in matches on the road. They have been right there, ready for
the taking, right for the taking. So I look at that as not
a chink in the armor, butlike you can see a path, you
know, it's being told that thereis that one exhaust port in the death
star that maybe is able to beaimed at that can get the missile home.

(01:18:34):
It is a wombat size or whatwas the animal that they that they
I think you got it, Yeah, the wombat size the hole that they
have there. But again it canalso go the other way, where these
are the matches that they can buildon and a true champion wins these scrappy
one goal matches and not given themthe impetus to move forward and say,

(01:18:56):
yep, we went through the fireand did that. But I think to
your point, right, there isthose teams that are taking it to Monterey
that aren't Chihuahua, that aren't thesoccers because Shihuahua was very early in their
development and how they've turned it around. But overall I think that, yeah,
that luck eventually does run out,and that's just part of it.
Right. It's very difficult in anysport to see that undefeated season or just

(01:19:20):
absolutely crushing number one seed team gointo the playoffs into La Lilla and keep
that going because you've been doing itfor so long. Everybody peaks at a
different time. And if that's thecase here in the playoffs and they have
already peaked on Ray. Then thereis that window of opportunity and hopefully it's
it's the opposite fortune for the soccerswhere they are their trajectories upwards, and

(01:19:45):
if only there's a moment and windowwhere they just put their defenses down and
allow for that, then we're talkingabout some interesting matchups coming up here in
the playoffs. And if that meansit's all the way into the championship game
again, it's the one that matters. Yeah, you got to get there,
and that means getting through Chihuahua,it means getting through Texas or Tacoma.

(01:20:08):
There's a lot of road to getthere. But just the fact that
they're having not just a great season, and believe me, they're having a
great season. They're having a littlejust a little bit of a charmed season
too, and that charm Cinderella slipper, it sometimes slips off. So something

(01:20:30):
to keep in mind, just apositive note to keep in mind if you
are looking at this going my god, we're struggling and there's an undefeated team
on the other side, what arewe gonna do? Like, there's still
something The comments Okay, we justsaw the comments. The comments had lost
nine out of ten. Obviously, they kicked our butts, but they did

(01:20:53):
so without Leo Gibson and John sosaid, and without betraying anything or doing
anything untoward, because Soccer's overtime isthe show of record of the MAASL.
To be clear, both of theseplayers are listed on the active roster for

(01:21:13):
the Kansas City Look there he isnumber fourteen. Look there he is number
nineteen. They're right there. They'reon the website. What are you worried
about they're on the website. Well, they're not with the team. They're
not actually with the team. JohnSosa on his Facebook page a weekend ago,
put up a large, lengthy, wordy post. If you look forward,

(01:21:36):
it's John Bayren Sosa v a yRon John Bayren Sosa saying goodbye to
the Kansas City comments, saying farewellto the organization that he has known and
played for for years. Of course, he did come out for a year
to play for San Diego. Inthe three years that I was away with
Gulfs, he spent a year withthe Soccers. Might have been too,

(01:21:59):
I think it was just one year. Because Kansas City has been his home,
his family, everything, But notthere Leo Gibson, it's been the
head coach of the team for thelast several years, and Stefan Stokech was
his assistant that was on the benchbecause he was a player head coach.
Now, is he close to retirement, yes, But we saw in some

(01:22:19):
early season case broadcasts them talking aboutthe coaching staff working with Leo on his
finishing, as if Leo Gibson hadforgotten how to finish goals, and all
of a sudden, both of theseplayers are not there. And then in
their last home match, Zach Regorscored a goal, pulled out both of

(01:22:42):
his shin guards and he had writtennumber fourteen under one shin guard and number
nineteen under the other shin guard. So clearly there's been a power vacuum,
there's been a struggle for control.Perhaps there were people in our chat yesterday
which we didn't have open during mostof the match, but I saw a

(01:23:03):
little bit of it later saying thatthose are people quote unquote poisoning the locker
room. You're a chatter on Twitch. I don't know who the hell you
are making accusations like that. Theseare great players, they're well recognized players
in Kansas City. The one thingI heard is that John Sosa could be

(01:23:25):
traded. Oh, I don't thinkLeo Gibson is going anywhere. I think
Leo Gibson, if he's going anywhere, it's retirement. But I heard John
Sosa could be traded. Yeah, just try to look up. I'm not
his friend on Facebook. Sorry,Greg fair enough, you might need a
request. I don't know if Ican share screen from over here. I
could, I could give it toyou, but nonetheless, So trust me

(01:23:49):
when I tell you, because Isaw it and I was like, oh,
John, so he must be heardor it must be over you know.
I'm not in the Kansas City commentsgossip business out here in San Diego,
you know. But I was like, oh, okay, but I
heard that he is available for trade, and I'm wondering if the Soccers should

(01:24:13):
trade for John Sosa. Because ifthere's one thing John Sosa is great at,
it's the power play. He's kindof a child's of his own,
except he's an assist master. He'sa great set peace shooter as well.
The equal or better. I don'tknow. Craig is as good as I've

(01:24:34):
ever seen, but he's almost asgood as set peace shooter as Craig Giles.
He's even out. He's I thinkstill second in the league and assists.
John Sosa is not a defender. He's old. He plays defender.
He's not a defender. He's old. He's a step slow. The Soccers

(01:24:56):
have a defensive issue and he wouldn'thelp them. If you play him,
He's not going to help you defensively. I'm here to tell you that right
now. But you know what theother two places are that make the most
sense for a John Sosa landing spotin the MASL Texas There it is my
deepest regrets. I wanted to letyou know. I'm no longer part of
the Comments organization. Kind it onig thirteen years for the assist on that

(01:25:23):
one with the soccers or thirteen yearswith the comments. The other two most
obvious landing spots for John Sosa areTexas and Tacoma. And I think he
would really help both of those teams. So I don't know, Susan says,

(01:25:45):
don't we have enough old guys?Like yeah, yeah, no,
we do. No, I agree. Would Sosa help this team defensively?
No, and we just listed thatas one of the key issues of need.
But would he help on the powerplay? Yeah? Would that be
political to trade for a guy andput him on the power play. Yeah,
should we worry about the politics whenthe team's twenty seven percent? Maybe

(01:26:10):
not? Yeah, so I don'tknow. I don't know. Bring in
that compositionion, why not? I'drather play. I'd rather him here than
be against US in Texas setting upthe power play, setting up Mendez and
Ortiz. You know, even ifMorales is hurt, like he'd really help

(01:26:31):
them, he might help them wina home game against US in the playoffs,
like God forbid going to Chiwaba.I don't know. I don't think
he goes to Chiuaha, but Ithink Chihuahua was set the way they are.
But you know, you got tomake a deal. Line up.
But if you're looking for a wayto shake things up and looking for a
way to help the power play, even if you brought him in to help

(01:26:57):
practice them, yeah, yeah,Well we've hired our power play coach.
His name is John Sosa. WelcomeJohn. Yeah, anyway, nineteen's unavailable.
The Scoto's got nineteen, but wouldyou like to be ninety one?
Come on in? Yeah, andkeep them away from everybody else, because
again, it's not like the soccersare very potent defenders on the power play

(01:27:20):
as well, and they find themselvesin power play situations more than likely this
season. As as his cousin thediscipline section of today's re education through soccers,
it's just a thought, all right, he was here in the past,
So Craig and Phil and Cheeky aregoing to have an opinion to begin

(01:27:43):
with. I didn't run this bythem. I'm not saying necessarily the soccers
should trade for John Sosa. I'msaying he's probably going to be traded,
yeah, and it's probably going tobe in the West. So even if
it was a trade to just keephim from playing against you, exactly if
you if I can't have them,no one can. I guess we'll have

(01:28:04):
them something to consider going forward becauseit's probably going to impact the division one
way or another. So would youlike it to be your direction? Wait
and see the one race of realinterest in this league other than seeding,
right, there's there's there's seating races. You know, Utica or Milwaukee could

(01:28:27):
finish second or finish third and pickup home field against the other in the
first round of the playoffs. Youknow, same thing for Tacoma and Texas.
You know, Chihuaba's going to finishsecond. We've known that unless they
finish first. Stay tuned for Soccer'snews unless they finish first. But they're
not going to finish lower than secondthis year. But you know, Texas

(01:28:50):
or Tacoma could finish third or fourth. If you're interested in that, you're
a fan of one of those twoteams. Uh. The the only real
race of interest is who who winsfourth in the East, Kansas City or
Baltimore. And three weeks ago itseemed completely obvious that it was going to
be Kansas City, And then asrecently as like four fifty nine yesterday,

(01:29:16):
it seemed like Baltimore was definitely goingto finish fourth and Kansas City was going
to fall out and finish fifth. The Comets might have saved their season getting
all three points in San Diego. They have five matches remaining, and the
next four involved I believe a Uticahome match playing Utica at home, a

(01:29:42):
match that they blew earlier this yearto start their losing streak, surrendered a
multi goal lead and lost. Butthey've also got Saint Louis. They've got
four I think winnable matches between hereand March twenty third, when they play
the Soccers, and they play theSoccers at Cable Domer Arena on the back

(01:30:03):
end of an interstate back to backbecause the Soccers will play Milwaukee the night
before in Wisconsin, so not impossiblefor Kansas City to win out there.
You see, that's the overall schedule. If you just click on comments,
you can get to comments and thenschedule and hang on, hold on,

(01:30:28):
that's a match preview teams. Yeah, there we go, comments, schedule,
teams or comments. How about alldivisions? Click on that. This
is great podcasting for those of wholistening on the podcast, don't worry on
the video. Everyone can understand thatwe're navigating a drop down menu. Yeah,

(01:30:53):
this is all divisions. Try tolook for Kansas City's matchups. Look,
just hit the hyperlink where it sayscomments comment. Yeah, right there,
Yeah that yeah, click click again, Just click comments again. It'll
get you there. I'll get youthere. Just click where it says where
it says away comments. Just clickthat. That'll take you to the comments

(01:31:15):
page. I promise you. Okay, see where it says Toyota Arena to
the left, to the left ofthat comment. Just click there. Yeah,
Boom was navigating an entirely different pageand that click schedule. See where
it says schedule right their schedule.Yeah, ah, we did it there.

(01:31:36):
It is Empire Wednesday winnable, nota guarantee. Home to Saint Louis,
home to Utica at Saint Louis.Casey's got to win through. They
gotta win all four of those matchesand get the twelve points. That way,

(01:32:00):
the Soccers can beat him on thetwenty third. And if they get
to twelve points, then Baltimore willneed twenty one points out of their last
nine games to advance. Baltimore wouldhave to go seven and two through their
last nine. If Casey wins outand beats us again, Baltimore would have

(01:32:25):
to go eight and one. Now, take a look the next four matches
for Baltimore. This is tough hostingMilwaukee, one of the better teams in
the least, and then they've gota road trip through Utica, Chihuahua and
Monterey and I wouldn't be surprised tosee them potentially drop all twelve points in

(01:32:45):
those four matches. If they dothat and Saint Louis and Kansas City takes
care of beating Empire in Saint Louisalone, that'll take care of it.
That'll put the it's in the playoffs. If Baltimore digs any points out of
that road trip, lookout, likelookout, Brad Crossley can ship the jersey

(01:33:15):
out here in San Diego. There'sa great chance I'll have to wear it
on the playoff preview soccers overtime becausethe rest of the schedule for Baltimore,
you know, Harrisburg drops back inthere a couple of times, they're back
at home. They've got Dallas athome like they've got there. You go
the back end of the schedule, home to Utica at the end, but

(01:33:35):
Harrisburg, Dallas at Texas, Okay, could be tough. But hosting Harrisburg
like they're gonna easily pick up threeof those games. For sure, they
could pick up four. They've hammeredUtica at home as recently as the last
time, beat him by seven goals. So right, it's gonna be the

(01:34:00):
next two weeks I think actually decidethis. If Kansas City goes win,
win, and then Baltimore goes lost, lost, loss, that probably decides
this. It puts it like allbut away anymore. Stumble if Kansas City.
If Kansas City takes a dump inEmpire, I'm actually gonna be mad,

(01:34:23):
Like I'm yeah, I'm actually gonnabe mad, Like I will be
pissed off if Wednesday Night Empire goesout there and just smashes Kansas City,
I'll be like what, I willbe more mad at the soccers than I've
been before. So I'm expecting KansasCity to be an Empire after what they

(01:34:44):
did to us on Sunday. Butso that's kind of how that one race
now shakes out. It's as simpleas you know. If you if it's
five and zero for Kansas City, then it's got to be eight and one
for Baltimore. If it's four andone for Kansas then it's got to be
seven and two. If it's threeand two, then it's got to be
six and three. You know, you can do the math. It's that

(01:35:04):
straightforward in terms of how things aregoing to work out and pan out.
But I don't think any of theother I don't think. I'm not worried
Kelsey like, I don't think KansasCity's coming for any of the top three
spots. I think they're going tofinish fourth one way or another, and
it's just a matter of can theyhold off Baltimore or is Baltimore gonna catch

(01:35:26):
them? And that's where that is. Last thing, is a goalkeeper hat
trick really a thing when you throwthe ball across a basketball court? No?
No, no, I think Ishared my opinion on this, those
shouldn't even count as goals, Likeit's it's cool and all, you get

(01:35:48):
it, and it's a little point, but a hat trick and then the
parameters in which you play allow forthat to even happen. I don't think
that's a I don't think that's shouldbe allowed personally. I just think it's
funny, that's all. I justwanted to say that. I mean,
basically, just understand, anytime Iget a chance to make fun of Baltimore

(01:36:11):
playing on a basketball court, Iwill. But uh, congrats to Mike
Xierraffa you got the award and Vioclindeals like, I'm very happy for you.
Okay, Marlicia is getting antsy, which is surprising because we've had all
of this soccer's talk. But it'stime to get to soccer's news now.
First of all, I revealed ourmilitary kit here. It is here it

(01:36:38):
is. So that's Sunday. Thatis Sunday our military kit March third.
I think I gave you a graphicon this. These are going to be
auctioned. The auction starts right afterthe show. I think it starts at
seven pm, benefiting Navy League ofSan Diego. These will be Game Warn

(01:37:00):
Autograph jerseys Military Night Jersey auction. We didn't actually have to take over the
Comets colors because they beat us.This was a choice we made well before
the match was decided, well before, like at least by three point thirty.
So those are that's your Military NightJersey auction. That is Sunday but

(01:37:20):
Friday. Star Wars nine, let'sdo it. Are you sure? I'm
ready? Yeah, no, I'msure. We don't have a video there
it is. It's Yoda. It'sYoda. Everybody. Yoda is this year's

(01:37:40):
Star Wars Night Jersey auction. Yodalike mad Episode two, Yoda flipping around
with a lightsaber doing badass things.Yeah, that's when you found out.
That's when you found out what theYoda that train Luke Skywalker where we were
dealing with, We're like, whatthis crippled old Yoda thing? Nah,

(01:38:03):
you can. You can ball people. Forget that Yoda's a bucket. So
Yoda, who is a bucket,is going to be and this is again
game warn autographed jerseys benefiting Special Olympicsof Southern California. Bid on it you

(01:38:30):
will at Live Source. So theseare available for live source auction the Live
Source app. I believe according toour great Spencer and our great Ezra,
that the auction begins at seven o'clock. It may have already begun. You
can download the Live Source app oropen the Live Source app and check it
out. But all of the kitswill be available for auction until the end

(01:38:54):
of the night of the respective matchesMarch first and March third, and then
they will be washed. They havebegun, says Gabe Perfect. So they
are underway. You can go tothe Live Source app. You can put
in those first bids. You know, they'll be washed, they'll be autographed,
they'll be sent to you the actualkits that have been worn by the
players and benefiting Special Olympics in SouthernCalifornia, as well as beginning as befitting

(01:39:19):
benefiting sixth Hour of being on theAir or Navy League for these military kids.
So two great live source auctions. They are both underway. Here we
go. What do you think?I love the Star Wars Kids to begin

(01:39:39):
with, and it's about time wegot some green lightsaber action on there too.
I really do like the fact thatyou know, this is available for
the fans to really be in tunewith a team in a different way,
right, and it's benefiting for agreat cost of Special Olympics of Southern California.
And let me tell you, asI work with on my real job,

(01:40:00):
we're not saying this isn't a realjob. This is this is I
can't believe it is a real job. Actually, yeah, but I work
with children and and and this issomething that is very near and dear to
my heart. So get out there, even if it's not for the jersey
itself, which is premium primo.I love me some Star Wars Kids from
the soccers, but go for it. I really want to say that that
a Special Olympics is an incredible organizationjust in general, just angels, angels,

(01:40:29):
angels, angels and assault of theearth human beings there. So I'm
really looking forward to that. CanI bid? Am I allowed to bed?
Yeah? Absolutely? Okay, Okay, many times I have been trying
to catch the random like Christian Goodierasor you know Flo, Sean Callahan,
Jersey that's checking in at a lowcost. And then I always get I

(01:40:51):
always get all outbid at the end, and it's always by either Cowboy or
Gabe. So so sorry for drivingup price. Got Sorry, not sorry.
Really it's benefiting a good cause. It's it's all good. But there
they are, Marlicia, sorry tomake you wait. We had a lot
to talk about. The team lost, yeah, like the team actually lost,

(01:41:13):
so we had a lot. Ithink somebody's telling the soccers the odds.
Never tell them the odds, right, or we can go another way?
Do or do not? There isno try? Okay, I think
we're at that point in the seasonfor the soccers. Do or do not?
There is no try? You know, I'm just hearing from the folks.

(01:41:35):
I got to open up my LifeSource app on my phone because we
don't have a picture of the Livesource there it is. We don't have
a picture of the goalkeeper kid,but apparently it is shown on the Live

(01:41:55):
Source app. So I'm gonna seeif I can pull that up for you
guys and at least throw it upon my camera here to do. This
is always great stuff when you tryand log into something live. Okay,
I'm gonna wait. I'll try andget that to you by the end.
Okay. At some point, TonyI'll talk and I'll stop listening to him

(01:42:16):
and all try and get this donemade. Craig and I think people like
the sausage being made sometimes, andit gre's a little context. We're human.
You're human, even even though you'rean absolute veteran of the game.
It's it's incredible how you know greatyou are at this and how this doesn't
beop boop, need oil, beatup boop, need new programming. Okay,

(01:42:40):
all right. Paul Savage came tous on Sunday evening and laughed at
how wrong we were with our injuryreport last week on the show. Just
like every single one of you guysscrewed up. You're wrong on all of
them. So let's be wrong again. It appears everyone but Leo and Costa

(01:43:01):
Callahan's out for the year with aknee injury. It appears everyone but our
two beautiful Brazilians will be back forFriday and hopefully Sunday against Empire and against
Chihuahua. So there's you're always wronginjury report. Let's hope it's right this
time Friday against Empire. To me, there's conflicting agendas at play here,

(01:43:25):
Tony on one side, and Isaw it in the chat earlier, like
this really needs to kind of bea blowout win for San Diego. You
really want this to be one ofthose right the score games where they just
kick Empire's ass, you know, eleven to three or something, you know,
just really really smack them and ifthey get a couple of goals at
the end, so be it.On the other end, Sunday is the

(01:43:47):
match that really matters next weekend,So the idea of God forbid Phil never
does it, But like rotating thelineup, putting some young guys in against
Sampire and saving some veteran legs forSunday, I think a lot of coaches
would do that. The soccer seeminglynever do that. Now that the shield

(01:44:11):
is essentially out of reach, Iwould say it would make a lot of
sense to do something like that Friday. But I just describe it as conflicting
agendas. On one side, youwant to find your form, and on
the other side you want to keepyour fitness in health for Sunday. Yeah,
and that's a tricky thing about thispoint in the season is always the

(01:44:32):
phrase health is wealth Like, yeah, it really is true because if the
healthiest team usually is the one thatwins out in the championship situation. So
if that's something that you're aiming for, then then again be smart with your
load management. And again that's usuallynot a way that the soccer's way because
it's always go, go, go, win, win, regardless of who

(01:44:54):
it is. And at the endof it, everybody's relatively healthy. But
it's not the situation here. SoChihuahua Savage, that game is one that's
being circled, like I know, the players want that. This last time
here at home, they were waitingfor them. They were salivating for Chihuaua
to get another chance at them, and they developed like how it developed.
They went away and the players werevery inspired. They had just gotten off

(01:45:16):
some team building exercises on the road. Craig Chiles was there. We spoke
to him right before everybody was lockedand loaded. We saw what happened that
time. Is the San Diego Sockersprepared to face us the reality where they
are not prepared for the Chihuahua savageand get run off the field once again.
I hope not, but that's areality that can happen here. But

(01:45:38):
it's again it's managing those expectations atthis point and just going out for the
bigger picture. What is the greatergood here? And I think that overall,
if it's wanting that Ron Newman Cup, then just be smart about it.
Just be smart about it and don'tover commit at times. And if
that's the case, then then yougo buy that. You live and die

(01:46:00):
by that sword. So sometimes alittle focused goal can help a team to
get through a tunnel to a biggerpicture. And I would go into Friday
with a focused goal as a soccerside of ending Marco Fabian's goal scoring streak
in the m ASL. He's scoreda goal in every match in the m
a SL and you know what, almost every single one of them has been

(01:46:23):
the same way. It's been ona power play, or it's been a
ball from the high middle. It'sbeen you know, he's not like breaking
guys down and beating three guys offthe dribble and coming in and roofing one.
So like just if you've just specificallylocked down Marco Fabian and showed that
you can do that, that youcan take a player and go boop,
circle scratch, erase them out ofthe team. That's a skill you need

(01:46:47):
to repeat going forward. You know, whether it's a Puentes for Chihuahua,
or whether it's a Torres for Monterey, or whether it's a Perreira right a
Morales if he ever gets back healthyfrom his knee situation. So that would
be a specific thing. Yes,obviously, practice the power I don't even

(01:47:09):
care about results. Practice the powerplay every practice between here and the weekend,
and then lock down Marco Fabian andkeep him from scoring on Friday.
The other way he scores his powerplays, So be disciplined, right,
That can lead you to another greatthing. You don't want to let Marco
score. Be disciplined, don't giveup dumb penalties, don't give them a

(01:47:30):
chance for Fabian to creep one in. You know, and listen, if
he scored at the end on thesix feet five, what are you going
to do? Right, But thatwould be a great cool goal that could
maybe help unlock Friday. Then youget to Sunday and look Sunday is the
last chance to dance against Chihuahua. If you lose to Chihuahua twice at home,

(01:47:51):
two things are going to happen.First off, everyone's going to rank
you under them the rest of theyear, and you have every you have
nothing. You can say, wehave absolutely nothing. You can say,
what did I say about self awarenessbeing a key to strength? The soccers
will have to be self aware andsay we're not as good as Chihua.
If they lose to Chihuahua again, they're gonna have to say we're not there,

(01:48:14):
so hard, look in the mirror, what do we need to do
to get to their level, thelevel of the champions, because we're not
there yet. That's what happens ifyou lose, if you win. If
you win, you pretty much lockup the division. You pretty much lock
up having the same circumstance for thenext playoff, and you put the fear
back in Chihuahua. This is somethingwe have heard, and we have heard

(01:48:36):
Oscar Sanchez say as well down therethe reporter in Mexico that Chihuahua no longer
fears the soccers, that they wereafraid of playing us even last year.
Saying, well, yeah, evenif we went at home, we can't
win in San Diego. We've neverwon in San Diego. Now they beat
us by four in San Diego, held us to one goal on our home
floor, shut us out for fiftyseven minutes on our home floor. So

(01:49:00):
Chihuaba has the confidence now that theycan beat us anywhere anyhow, anytime San
Diego needs to regain just a seedof doubt, that mustard seed that can
sprout inside the mines of Chihuaba thatuh oh, we still have to come
back here, and these guys aren'tgoing to go away. These guys are
going to be really hard on usand we might not win that match that

(01:49:23):
that needs to happen. So obviouslySunday critical for San Diego, but it's
also critical for Chihuaba Gang because theSavage have two matches in hand on San
Diego. So take a look atthose standings there bs it says that the
Soccers have an eleven point lead, their true lead is five. Their true

(01:49:45):
lead is five. Chihuaba hasn't lostto a team not named Monterey all year,
So add six more points for thetwo games that they make up and
you pop them up thirty five points. Now Chihuahua comes in and takes all
three in San Diego thirty eight points. You're two points ahead of the other

(01:50:13):
team, and that leaves you literallyno margin forever the rest of the year.
Its regulation wins in every other matchto secure the Pacific Division. So
Kelsey's actually right, I've got anothershow, and you've got another show.
We've got shows, Yes, we'vegot shows. But that's what's at stake
this weekend. That's what's at stakeis when it's pretty much over the Pacific.

(01:50:39):
Lose, it's very much in doubt. You've got those matches at Milwaukee,
You've got that match at Kansas City. You have to sweep that to
guarantee the Pacific. Yeah, andit's a really tone setter coming up here,
where much like Chihuahua had that beliefthat they would face Monterey now with
Jenni Martinez and have the fortunes bedifferent and have the team to take it

(01:51:00):
to them, soccers have in asimilar situation where they have to have the
belief that no, no, likeyeah, it was no Fluke, but
we have that cape capacity, thecapability to really take it to Chiwawa,
who have honestly punched the bully inthe mouth. If Sandegl Sockers was the
bully for years, years, years, they were afraid to even show up.

(01:51:20):
Sanduel got punched in the mouth andwas taught a lesson, and hopefully
that lesson is okay. We needto adjust some things and we need to
change the same thing can't be happening. We can't be We can't just be
closed minded. We have to exploreour options. And maybe it's a different
place stops, maybe it's a differenttactic that we take. But either way,
it's going to be a really goodmatch. It's a fantastic matchup on

(01:51:41):
paper, and it's going to bea good match that Sunday, Friday,
seven thirty five Sockers and Empires StarWars Night Glowing Bam Bam Sticks, Star
Wars Kits and Yes, to answerJonas Jaco's question, both Friday Star Wars
Kids and Sunday Military kits will beavailable for sale the merchandise stand not game
one, not player numbered, etcetera, but they will be available to

(01:52:04):
be purchased as well. So FridaySoccer is an Empire, Sunday Soccers and
Chihuahua and Uh, it's gonna bea big one, folks. It's gonna
be a lot of fun. Shouldbe a good one. Uh five oh
five h for that kickoff on Sundaythe third, and that puts a little

(01:52:29):
boat on the end of Soccer build. Thank you so much. We're gonna
both make it to our respective itshows. I might even get to have
a breaking and changed the banner thosechanges. Hey, I want to let
you know it's not that people saidknow the soccers and react to a loss

(01:52:53):
differently than you think. Greg GilesPostScript barbecue for the team today. They
had the players over at his outsand their families another kind of team building
and bonding instead of analysis. Sowe were all here under the dark class
during the analysis on the show.Hopefully we weren't on their big screen as
they're enjoying barbecue and friendship and gettingback together for everything. But appreciate everybody

(01:53:18):
who's been with us for an extendededition of the show. And tonally let
everyone know what's going on with you. Yeah, you can go ahead and
find me and everything I do overat Underscore Tony Sanchez. That is Underscore
Tony Sanchez or San Diegos Football everything'sfrom Gold Cup Action to SDFC and we're
finding out what's happening and that's happeninghere in about an hour. Craig.

(01:53:42):
