San Diego Soccer's not a Texas twostep, but they took one step in
the lone Star state. One stephere. Six more points added to the
ledger for San Diego. Mister Sanchez, how are you on this lovely pre

time. Light comfortable merchandise, alsoJersey apparel San Diego Soccers. And you
know what, I love that introvideo. We're playing and we're not leaving
without another cup either of coffee.I mean, you know, it's Tuesday

(01:30):
at five. Big shout out togreat Soccers fan Frank Frank Siragosa who gave
me a big old bag of Cubancoffee beans at the last match. I
made sure to grind some up forthis particular CUPA and I thank you for
thank you for the java mate, appreciate it. On the show tonight,
two nights, two states, twomatches, two wins, two recaps.

(01:55):
We got a lot to do aftera busy soccers weekend. Special guest Guerrero
Pino will join us in about ahalf hour from now to talk about the
club's four and oh start, thechallenges of the weekend back to back,
and how the defense took a standfinally on Sunday night. Interesting weekend of
results has started to separate the contendersfrom the pretenders. We'll give you the

(02:17):
first ever Soccer's Overtime tier list comingup in MASL News. Did you make
the top tier? No, notyou, you didn't, but some of
you did. Plus should Brandoness goto see more time at forward? Would
that even work? Something we couldchew on in Soccer's News. Lot to

(02:38):
come right here on Soccer's Overtime Tonight. Big thanks to everybody joining us live.
We are live on Twitch, Twitch, dot tv, slash San Diego
Soccers. We're here Tuesdays at fivepm. Many apologies. I saw we
got a delay a game warning fromEddie Treviio. Appreciate that. Next one's
a free throw. We we're justgonna keep that going, Tony. We're

(03:00):
gonna keep that particular that going therest of the year, going the rest
of the year. Yeah, wehad a little mic issue. We figured
it out. We're here. Betterlake than never. For the YouTube viewers,
I mean, you're late to beginwith because you weren't here at the
live show, but hey, betterlate than never. Glad to have you
here. And to everybody who's listeningon audio as well, thank you so

(03:21):
much for being a part of thepodcast. All right, Tony again.
Two games Absolutely crazy. The travelchallenges that the MASL puts on clubs,
and believe me, it's not justSan Diego. I mean, if you
think you have a bad imagine beingTacoma. They have to fly literally everywhere

(03:43):
they go, you know, imaginebeing Monterey or Chihuahua. So it's tough.
It's tough for everybody. Everybody's gotit rough. Everyone's got some back
to backs, but for interstate backto backs this year for the soccers and
number one, Hey, you knowwhat, as we like to say on

(04:03):
the golf course, often after asuccessful miss, it it's not how,
it's how many and six points acquired. It's not how, but how many
they got all six? Yeah, this was definitely going to be a giant
test here at the beginning of theseason to really see what the soccers have
in terms of depth, in termsof discipline, in terms of being able

(04:26):
to recover on time. And that'ssomething that is going to be crucial later
on as well. And so ifwe can get the notion that this team
is able to go ahead and takecare of business on such a short turnaround
between games. We were talking aboutit, eight quarters in less than twenty
four hours or twenty four hours, that's a lot on the body, and
that's a lot to demand any humanbeing to recover from. Let alone get

(04:48):
six points and do what the SanDiego soccers did over the weekend. All
right, let's dive right into it, my friend, we got two match
recaps, so let's get blazon.Let's start thinking off down in Allen,
Texas at the Credit Union of TexasEvent Center for the Socckers and the Dallas
sidekicks. We'll get to those peskystrikers. A little bit later, we

(05:11):
got time for you, but notthat much time, Empire, and we'll
get to you when the time isright, baby. So you know I
mentioned this last week. I rememberspecifically saying on this show the soccers have
traditionally put some of their worst effortsforward in Dallas against the sidekicks, where
turning what should be a six goalwin into a one goal win has been

(05:32):
really just par for the course forthe soccers. So much like that,
we get from San Diego the exactfirst quarter, essentially that they want Tony.
A defensive first quarter, no goalsconceded, one nice counter attack,
and there it is a three vone Leo to Charlie, what are you
gonna do? Dallas doesn't know howto handle this. They were caught upfield

(05:53):
on attack and San Diego's up onenothing in a jiff, All right,
we're rolling, Well we're not rolling, so I mean Pardo comes up with
a good save. But now secondsseconds into the second quarter, San Diego
loses the plot, loses a mancoming down the field. Love Grove is

(06:15):
you know, front and center toPotter rebound, very nicely done, gets
back what he started and it's oneto one, and you know, kind
of an easy equalizer which will befollowed for one to two by something that's
almost akin to an own goal.Tony First, a little bit of pressure

(06:39):
for San Diego. Chris Wangambo isalways going to be there to stop some
shots. He's a pretty good shotstopper for Dallas. Soccer's get a little
unlucky right there. Christian Gutierrez missesthe wing. But right here, this
is where things start to get sloppy. Vic more legueway in the corner and
it's Christian Gudiera is passing a ballthat Felipe Gonzalez doesn't touch, guarding it
straight to that he attacked Flavio Guzman. Vick Morleguay was given an assist on

(07:02):
this. He never touched the ball. It was all soccer's feet. You'll
see it clearly right here, theright foot of gouty Eras directs the ball
towards the crease where everyone stands andwatches, and Guzman says, oh,
can I shoot you don't mind,I will just shoot this then, okay.
Yeah. It's a forest of legsin there, and there's not a
lot of communication happening in there, and that's exactly what happens. I'm surprised

(07:24):
that he got the assist, butyou know, these are these defensive lapses
that sometimes happened, as happens whenyou put the foot off the pedal.
Soccer is down to one, butBrandon Ascoto equalizes, I mean classic,
sure is three guys around him, goes behind the back, dribbles around,
stops and starts. Looks like aNintendo character, you know, you press

(07:46):
backwards, forwards, sideways, andnow forwards again. And Scoto gets the
to two tie. Soccer's come backat a free kick. Solid execution there
Morgan in the middle when the reboundis spilled three two. Things are starting
to get back into soccer's form here, you know, quick lapse first two

(08:07):
minutes of the second quarter on theroad. But now we're starting to put
things together. Very nicely done, and I loved this. Sean Callahan gets
a steal and there he is rightin the middle of the point guard on
the three v one break. Littlefake to the right pass to the left
coast acrosses to Ascoto four to two. Callahan gets no point for that,
but he gets the steal and hegets the initial distribution. I thought that

(08:31):
was just another under the radar, great play by Sean Callahan. Yeah.
Absolutely, And sometimes it's these playsthat you think may at three against one,
the abundance of options is a littlebit too much because of the speed
of the play that you overthink thingsat times. But cool elected Callahan definitely
should get at least half an assistfor that four to two going into the

(08:52):
third quarter, and suddenly, uhoh, it starts with a goal that
is is a yucky goal. That'sjust a yucky goal. I don't think
there's anyone on the field that feelsgood about this one. Charlie doesn't feel
good. Boris doesn't feel good.No one feels good about this goal for
four to three. It's not eventwo minutes later. How is this man

(09:16):
this open in the middle of thefloor. Soccer's running down the floor,
stretched out, not committed, andall of a sudden four two Now it's
four to four. You're you're noteven two minutes in. Obviously Boris guesses
wrong on that shot, so hedoesn't feel wonderful about it. But what
are you gonna do? Guess rightevery single time? You know, that

(09:37):
ball kind of knuckled away from himand all of a sudden, You've got
yourself a four to four match.Soccer's on the on the power play.
Stay with this one, very nicelydone. Brandon Piscoto had called for the
ball early in the play. Hewaits, he gets his space, he
finds room, Leo finds him.Five to four. Brandon Piscoto was a

(10:00):
forward, has a hat trick. You saw three right here, and really
was dynamite the last two games,Tony, Yeah, No, he's really
showcasing is arsenal and the ability thathe has to really create a creator and
be creative on the play. Andthat's something that is a Swiss army knife
that he's able to carry with him. And so we'll talk about a little

(10:22):
bit later as far as where hisbest placement is and where we can best
use him. But if he keepsplaying like this, it's going to be
something that we can go ahead andexpect the soccers to go ahead and see
in the future in crucial moments. This goal to equalize is one that I
don't see the soccers give up veryoften. To be honest, everyone's in
the zone, everyone should be onthis play, and yet as the rebound

(10:48):
comes out, it's a little bitof ball. Watch, it's a little
bit of unlucky. It's a littlebit of pinball. That's the nature of
this sport. Forrest came out totry and get that ball though, because
no one was on it, becausethe team was a little bit slow getting
down the floor. Now, thisone of the best passes of the year,
Charlie Gonzalez forward, arcing, curvingpass to right to the front right

(11:11):
foot of Tavoyd Morgan for the finishedsix to five. Again, this is
just a seesaw match, but socceris doing some very elegant things offensively.
It's so difficult to get those crossfield passes exactly how you wanted waited and
to have it be finished after adifficult cult control. That's such a beautiful
goal in my opinion. You know, the shots are great, but man,

(11:33):
it's mug me feek. Soccers haveopportunities to get that two goal lead,
you know, as you just kindof know with a team like Dallas,
you feel like you get that lead, you get to seven to five,
the game's going to be over.Soccers are on the penalty kill here
get the short handed breakaway. Gucciertais still looking for his first goal.
Of the year. Great save, kick save left foot extended by Juan Gamboa.

(11:56):
And then seconds later, just fiveseconds left in power play, Blas
Perez blind turning shot to the rightfoot takes the crazy ricochet he actually hits
near post glass. The ball isricocheting away from the goal when it hits
Boris Pardo's end and goes into thegoal. So look, what are you

(12:22):
gonna do? Yeah, you know, it's it's both unlucky, unfortunate,
and it's it's just un that's justan unplay for the soccers. It's sixty
six and now you know, likenow you know, right Tony, it's
six' six. You're you're halfwaythrough the fourth. This is gonna be
a close match now the rest ofthe way. There's no blowing anybody out.
What we do see though, howabout the skill Drew Ruggles weaving finding

(12:48):
room for that left foot roofing anabsolute monster goal seven to six San Diego.
Yeah, you really can't sleep onDrew Ruggles' offensive prowess here and that
shot that we've seen very very verywell executed over in Florida. Now seeing
it for the soccers and have thatat the disposal to be able to just
on a quick don be able toget that shot off and put it right

(13:11):
there. It's something amazing. Ontop of his great defense. For the
seventh time, we say, well, maybe this will nope. Dallas answers
right back. This is poor halfcourt defense. There's no getting around it.
You can see Felipe taken out ofthe play by a pass. You
see Charlie trying to run into theplay and he's out of it. What's

(13:33):
Boris supposed to do right here?Absolutely nothing? Absolutely nothing. The stats
go against Boris parto. What thehell was he supposed to do right there?
Seven to seven? Soccers now reallyin the blender. But guess what,
Just as soon as they concede, they take the lead. Layo a

(13:54):
pure skill goal self Wallace score apass, draws in the entire higher defense
somehow to void Morgan completely unmarked asthe time to take a touch before scoring
right in front of the net.Eight to seven. We have reached our
final score in this one, asthe soccers do manage to clean out the
last six forty five, neither concedingnor scoring. You would have thought.

(14:18):
In fact, in two nights theydidn't score against sixth attacker Tony, but
nonetheless for the Socckers to pull outthe win in Texas. I think from
an observers standpoint, a fan,a neutral standpoint, that's the best you
can say. It was obviously nota well performed game defensively by San Diego,

(14:39):
very creative offensively, some good finishedchances, you know, some unfortunate
plays in the back all the wayaround. You know, Boris had a
couple of goal off his hands orgot you know, wrong footed, near
posted a couple of times. Butreally the defense in front of him was
was bad. It was just itwas not the level of defense we've gotten

(15:01):
used to seeing here. Yeah, and combine that with those goals again,
the happenstance of the angles of ithappening, or the back of the hand
ricochet's it back into your own goal. It's just the luck was not with
Boris to begin with in this match. And if you have those taps of
defensive performances, that can put youin a situation and you mentioned Craig,
this always happens where you know,it seems like at the beginning of the

(15:22):
match they can score at will. It's like, okay, we got the
first goal, we're going to getcomfortable, we can score whenever we want.
It gets a little bit complicated lateron in the match, and then
it's like, oh, they aretying it up. This might be closer
than we think. We have tokind of do what we do. But
at that point it might be alittle bit too late because you have these
cavalcade of errors. You have thesejust plays that are just unfortunate. Like

(15:46):
I feel so bad for Boris onthat one. That's just you know,
that's an known goal as well,it wasn't necessarily on target, so he's
going to want this whole entire gameback. But ultimately like they're able to
pull pull it out, and obviouslyknowing that there's another game after a long
night of travel up ahead, youreally can't go one hundred percent, if

(16:10):
that's to put it nicely, becauseyeah, you should be in theory going
one hundred percent of every single minuteyou touched that field, But you have
to be smart with how you manageyour energy and your recovery time. Two
quick notes out of this before weswitched to Sunday's match. First, is
what happened after the match. Theclub treated the match like they lost it.

(16:30):
We heard from multiple people the playerskicked the coaches out and taught the
coach had some words for the teamas well, so you know it was
delivered from the coaching staff of theplayers, but also from the players to
themselves. We certainly saw it thenext afternoon inside the locker room. Boris
would looked like he probably looked theminute the match was done, look like

(16:53):
he just took that face, putpause on it, and then clicked playback.
In San Diego, it was.It was wild, so, you
know, a very upset team afterthe match, which they won. The
other note, I just wanted tosay, very briefly, I thought the
broadcast was really good. In Dallas, they changed their announced crew. Now

(17:15):
obviously Ed Piskarech went from being coloranalyst to head coach, so he couldn't
he couldn't stay on as color analysts, but they got a new color analyst,
new play by play guy, andI just thought it was so such
a higher level. The quality ofthe scream was really really high. You
know, I was able to putit up to the big screen and it
looked really good on Saturday night. But he was prepared, he had done

(17:41):
his research. He even mentioned listeningto Soccers overtime that day coming in,
which of course is going to giveus, you know, gonna lift you
up in our books a little bit. But I was really excited about that
because every time the Soccers went toTexas the last few years, whether it
was Dallas or Mesquite, I alwaysfelt like the broadcast was really just not

(18:02):
not of the higher levels of theleague, and in particular Texas was I
thought, honestly the worst in theentire league. And they changed their play
by play guy too, and Ituned into a little bit of the Texas
Kansas City match on Saturday and hewas much much better. So I'm just
really happy to see that the leaguetries to improve incrementally every year, and
making that change is nothing against thelast guy who was there. He just

(18:26):
you know, there are levels tothis, just like everything, there were
levels, and the level went up, and I was I was really happy
to hear and see that. Sogood on your Dallas. We'll be watching
you one more time in February orJanuary. I forget. Yeah, as
Susan in the chat exactly, weasked the sidekicks announcers for five years in

(18:48):
a row, do you have ourpronunciations. Do you know that it's a
scoto not a scatto? Do youknow like there were there were so many
of those every year, and thereweren't this year, So I was really
happy about that. Okay, onto Sunday Empire in town, Marco Fabian,

(19:11):
Paul Wright, the whole nine yards. Let's get crackling because obviously we
got Carero coming up when this isdone, so a pissed off Parto and
the Sockers looking to clamp down defensively. An Empire says, hey, we'll
play some defense too. As BrandonGomez is put inside the popcorn machine here

(19:33):
in about a two minute stretch,he faces on seven shots yeah, and
is able to be exactly where heneeds to be for those, and made
some really impressive saves and kept Empirein it for the most part of the
first quarter. Indeed, he didanother one, and another one and another

(19:53):
one. It was one after theother soccers talking on Heaven's door not getting
through Brandon Piscoto right there. Thatlooked like it was going to be such
a gorgeous, cool, same kindof pass that we've seen Charlie make two
nights in a row. Boris Pardoin on the act as well. Right
there, Alan Perez had a greatchance for one nothing, that ball ricochets

(20:17):
off of him. Gomez again kicksaves. We're into the second quarter still
nobody has scored. Gomez is upto about nine saves at this point,
and then on the power play, quite amazingly, no one sees now that
you know that it's there. Whenit happens, it's the most obvious thing
in history. Step on Mietovic likeliterally reaching out to slap the ball,

(20:38):
the most clear evidence of a penaltykick. Ever, all three of official
officials miss it. Phil Silvaggio hasto go to the flag. He gets
the correction. There's the penalty kick, there's the sock toss goal. Here
comes some socks. There they aregot Denis and there's one nothing, San
Diego. Well done there, Gomezcontinuing to be impressive as a shot stopper.

(21:06):
Pardo's turn to get a little bitbusy. Ooh, notice the kit
Boris Pardo in hiszllly toth throwback thathe had worn in twenty twenty one two
and twenty twenty two twenty three playeda lot better. One of the craziest
plays of the year, right hereTa Void Morgan, the pond is back

(21:29):
sliding and then the toe polk doingthe splits. This man is flexible,
unbelievable. A great pass here,Charlie Gonzales, the steal gets it back
to sort of. Honestly, theEmpire could have done so much better defensively
on that play. That was oneof the plays where I'm like, oh
again, there are levels to this, because how does this pass get all

(21:49):
the way? Obviously Israel Sees wantedto intercept it, but got all the
way. It just looked like aballoon going by him there for a few
minutes. And then the closing thirtyseconds of the quarter, Layo the Steel
finds Chiles in his office down there, camped in the low left corner,
point number three hundred and ninety eightin his MAASL career for Craig Chiles.

(22:11):
Three nothing. Again, the gamewill get competitive in the third. But
I thought it was a very justrock solid given the circumstance first half for
San Diego on Sunday. Yeah,And honestly, to give credit to Empire
and their defense in that first quarterand into the second half, I mean
they wanted to spoil the sack Toss. I think that's that was what was

(22:33):
put in the mind by Paul Wright, is they knew sack Toss tonight.
No, let's go ahead and notbe and not be the ones to allow
a great cause the soccers to beeven better in the community. But ultimately
the soccers are able to really punchthrough and persevere. And I think that's
the key for here is the perseverance, perseverance that they've been showing, and

(22:55):
the fact that they're doing it onincredibly tired legs is impressive. Indeed.
Now, look, I just wantto say, once again, as I
did on the air, the firstgoal for Empire is one hundred percent on
me. I cast a spell withmy words. I invoked the name of
Justin Stintson, I called into questionhis performance. I put that question into

(23:21):
the air, and then he puttwo goals into the net. So that's
me, that's me. I'll takethat one very frustrating. Here's Marco Fabian's
goal on the night it came onthe paraplay. This is Stinson's second coming
up here shortly, I believe, but and it came after this missed call.

(23:41):
This is what kind of got mesalty for the rest of the match.
That's an extended hand by Adam Jamesinto the back of Gabriel Costa.
That's an obvious foul. And bythe no call you get to this,
the soccer is obviously not committed tocome back very much at all. They
were not running back the level youwanted. Empire got down the floor and
all of a sudden You're like, come on, are we doing this again?

(24:03):
Are we doing this a second strip? Gordy Gerson said in the chat
that wasn't a foul. Now excuseme, I I think it was a
foul. Soccers, though, areknown for their answers. Here it is
the pick and roll. Here itcomes ready, here's the pick, here's
the role, and with Morgan comingright down the middle, there's no way

(24:29):
to stay on Charlie Gonzales. Itgives Charlie the space and this left footed
rocket is go a lot. SoBrandon Gomez, you have two hands.
Why are you stopping this with yourface? What your hands? Here's your
hands, they have gloves on them. Charlie's almost challenging him to be like,
all right, it's either going tobe a goal or your face,

(24:52):
and he was like, all right, I think face, so I missed,
Like, try try the hands nexttime. Child actually complained about this
call. That was the fun maybethe funniest thing of the match. Like,
dude, you two hands threw himto the ground. Just take a
seat in the bin. Short handedgoal, Yes, shorthanded goal, shorty.
I love you. First shorty ofthe year, it says our Sera.

(25:15):
Gutierres gets the assists. He's like, thank goodness, you didn't ask
me to shoot it in. I'mmissing again this year. Uh Serda shoots
it in six' three. Nowwe feel everything is fine. I think
at this point, when the soccersget the shorty and then kill off the
penalty to finish it, that's it, my man. Chip in the chat
exactly, says my seven year oldat the game with me. Why did

(25:37):
he move his head and not putup his head right there? It's the
money maker man. You know, there's a future maybe after this career,
for a next moment, then heshould use his hands instead of his face.
I think he's got it all backwards. Soccer's doing well. Defense,

(26:00):
Drew Ruggles gets taken down. Howdare Eustinson? That's all right? Justin
it just really it's a hair stylecompetition. It's it's the die versus the
threads. The Scoto finishes it offseven to three. Brandon limited in his
impact to this match a little bit, nonetheless, gets that seventh goal,

(26:22):
gets the touch that most importantly getsthe cookie goal. That's the cravery cookie
goal right there, goal number seven. Everyone gets a Cravery Cookie coupon on
the way home, which is honestlybecoming something everyone is anticipating. I think
we're going to start building that anticipationinto the broadcast at home a little bit
more tony, the excitement of this. And then a couple of great Parto

(26:47):
stops wrap it up. That's nota Parto stop, that's a Scoto cleaning
up his mess. Right there,Brandon dribbled his team into a into a
counter attack. Bryan Sigg admitted laterthat this was not a blue card.
I told you he was going totext me the next day. Oh yeah,
here. He wasn't happy with me. I don't think you'd be surprised.

(27:11):
I reviewed the tape. I wasn'tcompletely happy with myself. I'll just
say say the same thing I saidto him on text, I'll say it
on the broadcast. So I'm sayingit to you on the air now,
Ryan a yellow card on me becauseI gave you all the respect due of
a podcast host, as in someonethat I can goof around with and have
fun with, and not as muchas the director of officials of the m

(27:33):
ASL deserves. And it's to hiscredit that he hosts the show. And
I should not great save by Pardothere the Velcrow hip. Save he has
a magical hip. There's Velcrow onit. It's exciting watch see look sticks
it just sticks. Normally that wouldgo through, but when you have the
magic hit, it just stays there. So so I apologize, Bryan.

(27:56):
I should I should have not extendedthis out today night live riff of the
show is only becoming philivocal questioning yourcalls. I kept that motif alive,
like two jokes too many. Sowhile yeah, Ryan didn't have his best
night, neither to me. Youknow, like plenty of people don't have

(28:18):
their best night. Everyone makes Ryandoes the best job you can. And
you know what he is so Tony, he is such an asset to this
league. Tony, Tony here,he is such an asset to this league
because he is accountable. Yes,he is personable. He explains calls the
Friday Show makes people smarter about thisleague all the time. And believe me,

(28:40):
there's been plenty of times I havebeen wrong from the top row about
a call that I haven't been ableto see some element of the footwork or
something along the line, you know. And there's been times in the past
I've been critical of his teammates thatRyan has come to their defense eloquently,
but always with that you know, understand, cannibal thick skin that you have

(29:00):
to have as not only an official, but ahead of officials. So Ryan
is a tremendous, tremendous asset tothis league, just an absolutely tremendous asset
to this league, so much sothat I was, you know, giving
him the poke a couple of timeson the air, because like we're friendly
like that, and you know,I shouldn't just assume that it's it's us

(29:25):
boys talking, you know what Imean. So anyways, I just wanted
to say that for Ryan sig goodMan gave myself a yellow. As you
saw, the show started five minuteslate. I oh, boy, crying,
all right, I had to Ihad to start with five minutes and
then then there was a dead ballwhistle and then I was able to come
out and then the show began. So uh that that's how That's how everything

(29:49):
went. All right, is ourguest standing by my friend. We are
good to go. All right,Let's get to our soccer special guest tonight.
He is the most rugged defender inthe Major Arena soccer league. He's
a two time champion with the SanDiego Soccers that's looking for plenty more.
Joining us from his home, GuerreroPino, our guest on Soccers Overtime.

(30:12):
Oh Pino, it's such a pleasureto see you, my friend. I
guess joining us from your car,it looks like, yeah, yeah,
I was doing some how you guysdoing. First of all, thanks for
having me. I was doing somestuff and then it was a little bit
uh loud in there, so Idecideday, came to my car and then
just have a nice talk to youguys. So you're not the only one

(30:32):
that retreats from a familia. Sometimesit's a little loud and then you gotta
give yourself some space. So Idecided to do it in my car.
I appreciate that, and so doall of our viewers and listeners. Uh
everywhere, Pino appreciate it. Man. All right, so let's get things
started. Just with your initial thoughtson the weekend, that was too tough

(30:53):
contest, too big wins. Yeah, you know what I mean. Overall,
you can say it was a goodweekend because we got we got the
six points. But I think onSaturday game we were the whole team,
the whole organization was a little bitupset, a little bit disappointment of our
performance. I think, uh,if you asked me, I think that

(31:14):
was kind of like a wake upcall of like the season already started and
and then we cannot relax on anyteam where we can uh be considered as
many goals. We gotta work harderand then and then prove ourselves throughout the
season so we can get in therythm for for what is important for the
organization. No, that's great, and I mean talking a little bit about
that the win against Dallas, Right, we're talking about this as if alist

(31:38):
it was felt like a loss. What are the players in the locker room
saying about it? And and whydid it? Why did this win seem
to be necessary to have a talkbetween you guys. Yeah, you said
it right there. It was youfelt like a loss. To be honest,
you felt like a loss. Wewalked into the locker room and and
obviously the coaching staff did her part. They're a part on getting on us

(32:00):
and and and spinning all the truththat that we have to hurt. But
after that, I mean, weall players to stay there by ourselves.
And then we talked. We wetold ourselves like, hey, this is
this is not ours, this isnot an organization, and we'll we literally
remind ourselves what what this organization hasbeen all about the last five seasons.

(32:22):
We're the best defense, I willsay the last four seasons, and allowing
more than four goals is unusual forthis organization and for this team. And
we just reminded ourselves that. Andand we told ourselves, like, listen,
and we keep playing like this, and we keep considering that many goals,

(32:42):
there's gonna be a game that we'regonna lose. You know, we
cannot use rely on all. Wehave a lot of power offensively, and
we're gonna scut a lot of goalsand we can concede as many goals as
as we want. No, Imean, it's not like that. I
mean the defense and boys, wealways say like, we keep it,
we keep it under three, andwe're gonna win. So that's our goal
every single game that we step outand that's basically about it. I mean,

(33:04):
we talked the captain talk, andthen we went home, we went
to the hotel, and we knewthat we got to take care of business
on Sunday, which we did andI think it was an overall better performance.
Of course, Pino, in orderto take care of business on Sunday,
first you had to physically get fromAllen, Texas to San Diego,
California. Nobody has the teleport machineto make that happen, so it meant

(33:29):
a late night of recovery and earlymorning of getting to the airport and then
a four hour flight and then reallyalmost no time to recover before you get
to the match. I have beenamazed, honestly amazed at how well the
soccers do in these circumstances to puttogether a strong effort in the second half

(33:50):
of these interstate back to backs. And just as a veteran yourself, I
wonder like, what do you see, What are some of the things you
personally do tips tricks to be ableto get off the plane and not be
a dead man walking. I mean, if you want me to be honest,
it is because of the MVP plePull Summage. I mean he's the
MVP trainer of the league. Imean that guy takes care of the whole

(34:15):
team. After the game in Dallas, he was in every room late at
night doing treatment for everyone. Andthen Saturday morning we got in the plane,
we went to rest a little bit. I think we had what two
hours before we went to the arena, and then whoever needed treatment was at
the arena at two pm. I'mreadygetting treatment from Paul, from Anne Marie,

(34:37):
from Corey the car proctor, andall the doctors that are there.
So I mean the staff that wehave uh plays a big, big role
on those weekends. To be honest, I mean we have everything there.
You know, everything that you need. I mean you need to get in
the boots to flash your legs there, we have it. If you need

(34:59):
to get a massage, we haveit. So that plays a huge role.
He makes it easier for us.And as a veteran, I mean,
I mean you know yourself, youknow your body, so you know
you gotta get why you need toget up right after the game. What
do you need to do once youland in San Diego? And then what
do you need to do before thegame? You know, and at the
same time, you learn throughout theyears to manage yourself during the game.

(35:21):
You know that the first ten minutesare gonna be rough, and then the
legs are gonna get under you,and then you're gonna be able to cruise
control through probably till halftime. Andthen you're going to do a halftime and
you know, the first five tenminutes of the third quarter are gonna be
rough again and then get your legsagain and then and then it's pray that

(35:43):
everything goes well. You know,it was a you know, obviously you
know you're saying, you know thebody you're a veteran and somebody who's relatively
new, very new to all ofthis is part of the Empire Strikers in
their new look. What are yourthoughts about, you know, playing against
Marco Fabian and this new look forthe Strikers this season. I mean,

(36:05):
and it's always good to have playerslike him come into the league. He
helps it helps grow the league.I think the Empires are revealed. I
mean, they're trying to rebuild theirteam. You know, they they the
last three years, I will saythey had a pretty strong squad and this
year they're they're rebuilding. I meanthey have some experience with UH, with

(36:27):
with with UH Steenson and I meanMilatvich. So those guys can help the
new guys, and including Marco Fabianbecause I mean he's a rookie in the
league. They can help those newguys to to fit into the team,
to understand how the league is played, and and then I think they're gonna

(36:47):
be doing well. And then atthe end of the season, to be
honest, I think they're gonna endup in a playoff position if if,
if they actually do the right thing, it'll be interesting to see. And
of course you guys will have alot to say about that because you an
empire will face off five more times, so they have to figure out how
to make the playoffs without any winsin those six matches. That's that's on

(37:08):
them, that's not on us.That's a different show. Just a couple
more questions for you, Pino, and we'll let you go. UH.
On Saturday, Maxwell Rodriguez, theSoccker's first round pick under them asl Combine
he had been in the lineup, but he finally actually got on the floor,
got at least a few shifts foryou guys, he's in your position
group, part of the defensive cores. Just curious as to your thoughts on

(37:30):
Max. One of those young playerswho's trying to build his way into this
roster. He's a great guy.You know, he's constantly learning. He's
trying to fit into the group andkind of like getting to the ridom of
how the league and how the gamesare. So he's Gonta. He's a
great addition. I think he's goingto be doing great. It's a great
pick for the organization because he's he'srelatively young, young, and then I

(37:54):
think he's a lot he has alot of talent, so he's gonna be
in end up doing well in theorganization. And then look kind of looking
at the landscape of teams and howthey're changing some new elements here and there.
Who are who's a player that youmost look forward to matching up against
on the floor? You get youknow, I mean always always, I'll

(38:16):
say the big target, you know, Nick Brena from Paranam, from Takomba.
It's always tough to play against him. He's a great player, as
big as strong, great with theball, Dantas Morales from his squid,
and then all the Mexican forwards youknow, Taurists point is Tony, those

(38:38):
guys are good as well. Andthen if you come to the East,
which we're gonna face him twice thisyear. I mean, I think Sack
from Kansas City is doing great sofar. So it's always fun. It's
always fun to play against guit targetsand and and make it a game you
don't have a challenge, and andand go from there. Last thing and
we'll let you go. Guerrero.Just your thoughts on this club's potential.

(39:01):
It feels like a slightly different soccersteam this year. Obviously, the offense
has been just electric with with Costa. Drew is working his way into your
position group as well. The futureis always bright, Expectations are always high
for the San Diego Soccers. Butas you just kind of look around the
league, you've got a four gamesample now of everyone, how do you

(39:22):
see things? I mean, youstand it right there. I mean,
for this organization and we don't winthe championship, it's not good. You
know this, This phil and andthe and the coaching staff has done their
job to to build a roster towin championships every season and this is just
another one. I think the editionof Coast and Rogos is as important for

(39:46):
the for the club, and andI think they're gonna end up fitting well.
I mean, we know the potentialthat those two players have and and
I mean I think I think we'regonna be there. I think our goal
and our own league goal is tooto be in the championship game and then
getting another cup out of the oldArena, you know. I mean if

(40:08):
you looked at the whole roster,I mean, starting from back to back
to front, you know, fromBoris, the defense, all the midfielders
that we have, I mean, anybody can score now, and then you
have Taboid Christian and then Pray Childs. I mean, let's put them all
on Child's foot and it's gonna goin, you know. So it's gonna

(40:30):
be it's gonna be an interesting season. I think the potential is there.
I think the expectations are are highis because of the roster that we have.
But at the end of the day, it's gonna be up to us.
It's gonna be up to us inevery game, proving ourselves out every
when I win a championship, we'regonna win every single game, and then
just getting ourselves into the ralom toto get on full strain whenever we get

(40:54):
to playoffs. You know. Well, Guerrero just want to wish you a
merry Christmas. Happy holidays to theentire Pino family. So glad that you
guys get to spend it together. We'll see you back next week as you
get ready for Tacoma. It's greatto have the club have the holiday break
off, even better to be thereat four and oh so all the best

(41:15):
to you and yours. Thank youso much for your time tonight. I'm
sure we'll catch up to you laterin the year. Yes, thank you,
No, thank you guys. Thankyou guys for having me and thanks
for doing this for the club.Happy holidays for you too and your family
enjoys they save and I'll see youguys soon. Absolutely, thank you.
Once again, there he is,Guerrero Pino, once again one of our

(41:35):
great soccers every week coming through gettingon the show. You know, we
appreciate all these guys finding time they'vegot coaching schedule, they got life schedule
and to come on out absolutely terrific. Chip Mentioning brought a family to the
game who had never been there.Penal first to come over say hello,
you know, Tony, I thinkyou're really seeing it right, that connectivity

(41:59):
between the soccers and their fans. It's something that's really special. Yeah,
it really goes deep down to reallywhat this soccers culture is in San Diego
and how important the San Diego socersare just in general. Because look,
I know people who have been goingto these games since they were kids,
and now they're bringing their kids andthey hope that they're they'll be brought us

(42:21):
grandparents and go to the new frontwave areen and see what the new iteration
of the soccers will be. Butman, it's something really special because they
really take the time, the playersdo to talk to every single person who
wants to talk to them, andthey're incredibly approachable. And I know there's
going to be an opportunity to evenhave a little bit more of one on
one coming up with the players aswell. But man, I love seeing

(42:45):
that from Guerrero and the rest ofthe players as well. Thank you,
mister Pino. All right, maslcoaches, players, broadcasters, social media
people. You've got to start payingattention. Now. It's time for the
segment that makes us the show arecord in the MASL. It's time for

(43:07):
AMSL news. This is the onethat spawns controversy, spawns social media posts.
Here we go, h Tony.As you know, I've watched.
I haven't watched every single minute ofevery single match. I did not catch
UCFC Harrisburg and will be straight upthis week, but I've tried to watch

(43:28):
at least part of every match inthe MAASL so far. I like to
have a great base of knowledge uponwhich to deliver my opinions. And at
the one sixth poll, we're noteven to the quarter pole yet I am
ready to offer the first ever Soccer'sovertime tiers list. I've got three tiers

(43:53):
for the thirteen teams in this league. Would you like to hear them?
I would love to hear them becauseI got really with a preview that we
did at the beginning of the season, and I think it's kind of like
a maybe an adjustment in store orare we are we locking those in?
Are you still? There's always subjectto adjustment, always subject to adjustment.

(44:17):
There's always the potential for adjustment. There could be further adjustment along the way.
Will there be I don't know.Let's take a look now and see.
As Kate Ribbage says, everyone powerrankings, tired, tier lists,
wired, Okay, because who's tosay, Oh, they're number one,

(44:39):
you're number three? Oh what arip? You put them number four?
Uh huh? Tiers tiers. First, this is the championship tier. Here
are the teams that I do declarehave the opportunity to win the MASL Ron
Newman Cup Championship this year in theeast Monterey, Kansas City, and Utica,

(45:06):
Okay, in the West, SanDiego, in Chihuahua. I think
the champion of the MSL in twentytwenty three, twenty four will be one
of those five teams, I reallydo. That's tier one, call that
list contenders. Well. The nexttier is the aspirants. These are teams

(45:30):
that I think will make the playoffsand could maybe fringe in the yeah,
right situation, win a series, probably wouldn't win the title, probably wouldn't
get to the title. They needto take a step up. They've they've

(45:52):
got something to work on. Butthey're not bad teams. It's a three
team tier Milwaukee, Texas, itmight be a two team tier. Tacoma,
you got some work to do.Got a big win over Baltimore on
Sunday. Tacoma needs to like cleanout Empire in their matches in the next

(46:15):
handful of games, and then they'llbe in that middle tier. Do I
think Tacoma can win the championship?Frankly I do not, But could they
maybe win a series if everything justmaybe broke, you know, a lot
would have to break right in theleague. Could they beat Texas in a
series? Maybe? You know?Maybe so? Uh, that's my middle

(46:37):
tier. They're not out of it, but I don't put them at the
same level, and then everyone elsecan go in a bin. Saint Louis,
Baltimore, Harrisburg, Empire, Dallas. Put them in a bin.
They're they're they're non contenders. They'reteams that you need to beat. If
you're a contender, you need tobeat those teams every single time you play.

(46:59):
Who could Move? I think certainlyyou have to at least accept for
the possibility that Baltimore puts things togetherbecause of their history. They've never missed
the playoffs in m ASL history. This would be the first time I said
on our preview show. I thinkthey're going to miss the playoffs. I
think that more strongly now. Butnonetheless, they could move up. If

(47:24):
Empire figures it out, they mightbe able to move up. But they
need some help in the back. They really need some help in the back.
You know, Gomez did some nicework early in that game at keeper.
You know, might want to considerusing his hands instead of his face.
But they need some help. Idon't see them there, and the

(47:46):
fact that they have to. Youknow, they're one in four now and
you've probably got five more losses againstUS played Schihuahua again. Like you,
you rack up to ten, eleven, twelve losses really fast if you go

(48:07):
down that road. So we'll see. But there's my tiers. My tiers
are Monterey, Kansas City, andlook Utica undefeated. So I'm gonna keep
them up in that tier if theyif they drop games here and there,
they might drop down a tier.If Milwaukee gets hot, they might move
up a tier. But I don'tthink Monterey and Kansas City are ever going

(48:28):
to leave the top tier. AndI don't think San Diego and Chihuahua will
ever leave the top tier. Ithink those are the four top contenders for
the league this year. And itreally does look tony like something we thought
about back on the opening bell isgoing to be the case, which is
it's us looking at Monterey, Monterreylooking at us keeping an eye like,

(48:51):
hey, they opened the door, man. They got one overtime win,
so now all the soccers have todo is get twenty four regulation wins out
of twenty four. They've got this. They've got the inside track to the
MASL shield. It's ridiculous how closeit is. And I'm just really wondering
after seeing Monterey go to Milwaukee getthat overtime win and then beat Chihuahua on

(49:15):
the road and at home, reallyreally shut down the savage attack Christian Hernandez
in net on Sunday was just spectacularfor Monterrey, and as such, I
mean, I really think, youknow, if there were power rankings,
I think a lot of people arepower ranking Monterey won, and you know,

(49:38):
a lot of that has to dowith beating Dallas twenty two to five.
I throw that result out the window, but for me, it's the
result at Milwaukee. The two resultsagainst Chihuahua, like Monterey is really shown.
They're a great team. They're definitelythe championship contenders, and that's what's
best for the league, I feelat this point right you need those two
really good teams to really be contendersand and be ready for this heavyweight battle

(50:02):
that's about to happen later on andhopefully the championship for these both sides.
And it's gonna be really interesting becauseof the look that Monterey has. It's
just so dynamic on offense. They'rea fun team to watch and you get
to see them clabber against the Eastand you know, you got to give
credit to that. And I don'tthink it necessarily scares anybody on the San

(50:24):
Diego Soccers per se, but it'ssomething to take note of and and I
think the league is taking note ofthis Monterey Flash team. Despite twenty two
goals at you know, and insome instances they're still they're still gonna have
to work through some some battles andsome and some kings here and there as
well. But am I gonna sayit's not impressive? Now, that's definitely

(50:45):
something that's it should be of alarmif you are in those fringes that you
know, man, you gotta startracking up the wins because you're probably gonna
get dismantled by Monterey at some point, and you just got to play those
games a little bit smarter in thatsense. Yeah, I mean, Gabs
asking should he book his flight onValars for the Monterey Final? You know,

(51:09):
don't, don't. I'm not goingto throw Kansas City out the window.
Kansas City has looked really, reallystrong. Then they did lose to
Texas on Sunday. Now that wasthe end of an interstate back to back
and Paul Savage doesn't work for KansasCity and the Kansas City Commics didn't look
like the same club on Sunday thatthey did on Saturday. Also, they

(51:30):
didn't start netto you know, theythey rotated their lineup a little bit doing
the back to back, and Texasgot a big, big win in that
match, and that keeps Texas firmlyin that second tier. You know,
I really do think Tattoo's got somethingbrewing with the Texas Outlaws, in particular

(51:51):
on the attack, because Ortiz andMendez are two gifted playmakers who are both
dynamic scorers. Now you add thebig boy Dantas who can slow the ball
down. You know, he's notbeen the same since he left Baltimore,
but he's still a very very good, hard, solid veteran player, very
physical, difficult to move. AddingUzzi has its ups and downs for a

(52:17):
team, but at least there's moresize, there's more physicality in that defensive
backfield. The club is missing PoilCortes and I don't think right now Texas's
defense is of a championship caliber. But big win for them, big loss
for Kansas City because it really reallydoes look like, you know, the

(52:38):
Shield is going to be awarded toa point total in at least the mid
sixties. And keep in mind, seventy two is the maximum points you can
have in this league. That's twentyfour times three. So I could easily
see the shield winner being in thesixties, mid sixties, and I could

(53:00):
see it being a race. Icould see it being a race for a
long time, maybe all the waydown where you're twenty two to one and
wondering if you're gonna win the shield. You know, like it could absolutely
be like that. So it keepseverybody on balance, It keeps everybody excited.
It keeps the soccers engaged and itmakes it very interesting, I think

(53:23):
for soccers fans, because it's notjust Atlanta Braves ho hum, we're in
the playoffs, will wait till then? It's like, no, you gotta
man. If you don't fight forevery single point this year, you're gonna
be staring at a trip to Chihuabaor a crypto Monterey to win the championship.
Yeah, it's not gonna be aneasy road regardless. You're gonna face
a really good, solid team atsome point and if you're not on tip

(53:45):
top magoose shape, it's just gonnareally show. And so it's these early
awnings that really have to be anopportunity for growth for the soccers and really
come with a different look in adifferent style, because sometimes happening if something
doesn't work for the soccers, theyget themselves frustrated and they don't necessarily pivot

(54:05):
in game to make those adjustments becausethey want to go ahead and win the
soccers way. Sometimes with these players, I think you're going to have a
chance to really have an evolution ofthat with Costa, with ruggles with these
new ways to play on the powerplay that Lastripleta's like, it's a very
interesting situation to be in and it'snot necessarily the easiest. As we were

(54:28):
talking earlier, a three on oneisn't necessarily the easiest play because you have
so many options, so many chances. But you really have to know exactly
how you're going to go ahead andgo into these matches prepared with the squad
that you have. Hopefully everybody stayshealthy on every end. But it's good,
it's exciting. I'm enjoying. I'mreally enjoying the league this year and
looking across at other teams having successand and it's it's going to be very

(54:52):
very good, especially for Parody.I love this. Just reacting to a
couple of things in the chap beforewe move on. Kay Bibberts says,
Craig is UCFC a contender or pretenderfour and Ozer and Frank's not really scoring,
but it was blast in Harrisburg.Very fair point, k Vibbert,
you know, look like I said, UCFC Milwaukee, those are teams that

(55:12):
could exchange in my tiers, andit'll come down to their games. If
UCFC takes down Milwaukee, they'll stayup top. If Milwaukee can beat them.
You know, if Kansas City comesin and handles them, you know,
we'll see the year will play out. We're still very early on,
but I just I can't drop UCFCdown. They haven't lost a game,
you know, so they've done wellso far. Multiple people reminded me when

(55:36):
I was just riffing on Texas thatI left out Louise Morales, who was
actually their best scorer, their bestfinisher, can do it when both feet.
He's been great this year. That'swhat makes Texas a good offense is
because you have Orties, you haveMendes, and you have Morales, and
then Dantas can be the almost likethe full back on the line, buck

(55:58):
softening the defense, you know, jamming, jamming on his shifts, and
then Morales comes in and those guysare tired, and then Morales can zip
past him and get that strong shotaway. The last thing, Eddie says,
a Monterey final in their rec centerfield would be embarrassing for the league,
any worse than a final on abasketball court in Towson, Maryland.

(56:22):
Yeah, they played in Polytechnico, which is essentially, you know, like
a college campus auditorium. But ifhistorically kind of looking at the league and
how it's formed over there, andhow people enjoy to watch the misl or
indoor soccer. It's a perfect setting. It just works well. And I
think just the the need for agiant arena or something that they have at

(56:46):
Montre wasn't necessarily the best as well. It looked fun and looked great,
but that intimacy that is created nowat the Polytechnico is interesting that at least
for me, it reminds me ofhome when I see them promoting their tea's
like, hey, come to Ithink we the hey, and you know,
it's it's really it's really, it'sreally neat. I I mean,

(57:08):
I guess I'm in you wed tosmall fields? What I what I really
think is that Monterey has a giganticadvantage playing on a baby field, just
like Chihuahua has a gigantic advantage playingon a baby field. And the only
drawback to that is when you takea babyfield team and you put them on
a big field in a playoff match, you like to think that you're gonna

(57:28):
be able to slow them down, shut them down. The soccers have always
shut down Chihua in San Diego. The one time Chihuahua has won. It
was a mini game. You know, it was a mini game. There
was one nothing twenty two minutes orwhatever. So uh, that's the one
thing you can say. But also, if they can get to if they
can get to twenty four and oh, if they can get to the shield,

(57:49):
they'll never have to they'll never haveto win outside of that baby field,
and they could just win everything onthe baby field and take the championship.
So uh, you know, Chihuahuadid their thing. They gotta win
outside of the baby field last yearin the playoffs. We'll see what happens
last thing before we get off mASL news. I know you know this,

(58:10):
Tony, because we were texting aboutit. Saturday. Was it Sunday
morning? Saturday morning? Was Saturdaymorning. Friday night, Baltimore played at
Empire and they won. I meancool. The Blast a ten time championship
team that's never missed the playoffs inleague history, and started zero and two

(58:31):
on their home floor, started ohand two on their home floor, getting
blown out, blown out, roof, blown off the basketball court twice.
Well, they go to Empire, which is a team that dismissed over half
of their roster as a new coachhas knew everything and they won. Cool

(58:55):
Man, you won, but thatwasn't Next morning Baltimore had to put up
the You doubted us, you thoughtwe were down here we are rock,
high energy music, not so fast. Don't count us out yet. We

(59:20):
stay focused, We work hard,we play our game. Rome wasn't built
in a day. Everything good takestime. We're on our way hashtag to
the eleven. Let mean the eleventhchampionship. By the way, I want
to run through some wall and thatwall just happens to be drywall though it's
just not might think they use MichaelJackson. They don't care about us,

(59:47):
the immortal version parentheses. Guess whatthey did on Sunday? We lost.
They lost again. Where's the video? Show me the video. I'll show

(01:00:07):
you that right there. Oh youlost by three? Oh jeez oh man
after that video, you lost afterthe video. Don't count us out,
I mean, don't count us outyet. Okay. If you don't know
why we're the show of record inthe league, we're the show of record

(01:00:29):
in the league because just when Isay I don't think Baltimore is gonna make
the playoffs, and then they supposedlyproud ten time championship organization that starts zero
to two at home, beats arebuilding club on the road, and puts
up a don't count us out yetvideo like they're flexing on us, So

(01:00:54):
sorry you lost again. This isnow my thing. This is this is
now my thing this year, likeI want, I just I love this.
This is one of my favorite thingsin sports. I swear to God,
Tony, this is one of myfavorite things in sports. When a
team that just is not a goodteam does one little thing and it's like

(01:01:22):
you wants the equivalent of it's theequivalent of uh. And I don't watch
the Chargers, but I believe somebodytold me that when the Chargers were losing
to the Raiders like forty two nothingor sixty three seven, that Austin Eckler
got a first down right exactly thatway, like bruh ah, you're losing,

(01:01:50):
like have a little prime. Sothat was my favorite thing of the
weekend. And I would I wouldask that every bad team in the league,
every time they win a game, just completely get out of your hat,
pretend that you know they all doubtthey like, do the whole thing,
like go full Muhammad Ali. Youknow, pick out the most provocative

(01:02:15):
clip, you can come up with, the slickest video. You can just
celebrate. You know, when Harrisburg, you know, gets that one goal
win at home over Baltimore, like, don't count us out yet, better
yet, Harrisburg is way too class, way too They'll just be like,
cool, we won. That's nice. It's almost like if in Pretty Woman

(01:02:37):
she came back and strutted her stuff, but instead of coming back to the
high end shop, she walked intothe thrift shop and just like here,
I am, favorite thing, favoritething of the week. Empire was in
town. You know, I waslistening, listening for some whisperers, listening

(01:02:59):
for some whispers because last week wetalked about it, it was on the
MASL transactions list that Empire had acquiredWilliam Vinzella and Max Ferdinand. Not so
fast, my friend, don't anticipateseeing those players in empire Zebra's stripe pink,

(01:03:22):
gray, white and black uniform thisyear. It could happen, it
is highly unlikely to happen. Thescuttle but I got was that those players
are not interested in coming to Empire, and given that they are family men
who live in the East Coast, who have coaching jobs, who have everything

(01:03:44):
else, who have roots on theEast Coast. It's like, sure,
you can trade me, but we'renot going to play for you. We're
not coming. So I don't anticipatethis turning into anything. And if those
players play this year, I thinkEmpire will be trading their rights somewhere else
on the East Coast. So I'mgoing to drop that until there's ever any

(01:04:06):
reason to pick it up again.I think that the club you see an
Empire is the club you're going tosee. The one guy I'm curious about
is Lucas Roke. Like you tradedfor Lucas Roke. He should be the
number one player on Empire. Heplayed the first game and that's it.
So I don't know what's going onthere. I heard Philly and the Dock

(01:04:27):
kind of talk around it on Friday'sbroadcast, and it made it sound like
Lucas Roke could come back to theeighth strikers. I hope he does.
I want to see good players onteams. I think Roke could help them
maybe beat Tacoma, you know, maybe try and fight for that fourth spot.
I think the fourth spot in theWest is the spot to fight for,
so we shall see. All right, let's wrap up with some soccer's

(01:04:53):
news. It's a pretty quick episodeof soccer's news because there's no matches this
week holiday break. This should bea good break tony for the Sundaries,
in particular for number thirty one MitchellCardons, because he's essentially missed four matches
of four. He played one shiftin the first match before pulling up.

(01:05:15):
But now with two solid weeks offand the club having been precautionary and not
activating him this weekend, I thinkit's pretty fair to say that kind of
all the guys who have been bumpedand bruised and nicked, you know,
Ruggles was just a little bit slowto at the start of the year.
He's played all the way through.Pee Wee has been out, Wan Gonzalez
has has been out. I thinkthere's a good chance to see the club

(01:05:38):
return to a lot closer to fullHealth's full health for that match in the
thirtieth. Yeah, and obviously youcould definitely see that wear and tear already
here at the beginning of the seasonwith Ruggles specifically, he went down for
a little bit in later in thatEmpire game because you know there is that
you know they're playing at a highlevel, but they're always carrying injuries,
and it's good that, you know, especially for God of the Nust two

(01:06:00):
to get those minutes back in andstart really feeling them themselves in and starting
to learn how to play with eachother because there was really a chance to
do that and play with all yourpieces on the chessboard available. So hopefully
that's gonna be coming in soon. But you know, it's it's good that
they're gonna go ahead and get themselvessome rest. We all need some rest.
Crre, you need some rest too, That's right. Sure, absolutely

(01:06:23):
cave everybody asking about Ruggles, whowas down on the floor late in the
fourth. He's fine, He's okay. I think he got the wind knocked
out of him or something. Hewas It was not, it was not
a soft tissue injury. He wasokay. One other thing I kind of
heard poking around the arena on LuisPerez thirteen is a kid. Remember when
we were saying how there was adeadline and there was an opportunity to get

(01:06:45):
north in reference to Rojo, LuisPerez did that one Menuo Rojo did not.
I heard that there's there's a decentchance that Perez could start to become
available for selection around around the startof the new year. And that's a
kid that the players are really reallyhigh on. The players, the coaches

(01:07:12):
are very very high on Luis Perez, and when you watch him in practice,
he looks not like a second yearplayer. He looks like a guy
who's completely locked in to the flowof the sport. So not for nothing,
another midfielder. He could play alittle defender too, But Luis Perez
is a player that could be onthe come for San Diego in the next
couple of weeks. That would bethat would be super exciting. Skills clinic

(01:07:38):
is coming up January fourteenth, thatis, prior to the Soccers Chihuahua Savage
match. San Diego will be playingin Tacoma the night before, so this
is our second interstate back to back, but they'll be home for a five
o'clock match against the Chuawa Savage andfrom two thirty to three thirty pm a
pregame kids skills clinic on the floorinvolving soccers, players and coaches. There

(01:08:00):
from two thirty to three thirty pm. It's a special ticket that you need
to get to ALT. So kidsskills at d soccers dot com slash clinic
SD soccers dot Com slash clinic andyou can get your kid signed up any

(01:08:21):
skill level and go on out thereand have some fun and be out on
the floor the exact same floor thatthe Soccers and Savage will be tearing to
pieces just hours later. Yeah, let's make some future San Diego soccers here,
some future legends. Maybe the scoutingevent you never know that reminds me.

(01:08:42):
Thursday is the m ASL College Draft. The m ASL College Draft and
it is a regional draft, soplayers will be selected from the region that
they that they're teams are in.So stay tuned. There should be some

(01:09:02):
news on the soccers socials come Thursdaymorning or Thursday afternoon. I'm not sure
when the draft is being held asto the three picks the soccers can make
in the college draft. I wastalking to members of Soccer's operations earlier today.
They have some players they are targetingthat they think could make an impact.

(01:09:25):
It's not just here in the nearfuture, like a real impact in
the league. So this is excitingthe combines, exciting the college draft is
exciting. We'll have some talk aboutthat on next week's show. Very last
thing. Because I teased it atthe top, I can't not mention it
at the bottom. But it wasinteresting to notice the difference between Brandon Escoto

(01:09:47):
on Saturday and Sunday, wasn't it? Yeah? It was a different as
Koto doing things similarly to what weknow he does well, but definitely being
a little bit more productive on oneend, little bit more fish and water
in one and one's kind of likea fish in a pretty large tank,
but still not as free as hecould possibly be. So Brandon's been amid

(01:10:11):
his whole life here in San Diego, and he's often been running in two's,
meaning a thirty minute player as opposedto a twenty minute player in the
match. And the soccers have themost midfield talent I've ever seen on any
team in the Major Arena Soccer Leagueor the PASL for that matter. They've
got the most infield or midfield talentof any club I've seen in the modern

(01:10:34):
era. So you've got so manyguys that are Charlie Costa. Those guys
are running thirty minutes, Layo Philippe, Brandon Sean Callahan and I. Now,

(01:10:55):
by contrast, for two games,Craig Childs was unavailable coaching situation in
Tacoma, load management situation in Dallas. So Brandon moved up to forward and
he potted five goals in those twogames. Because he's getting out on the
floor, on the offensive side ofthe floor all the time and having success.

(01:11:17):
So what am I here to saythat Escoto should move to forward?
Well, who would you bench toVoid Morgan or Craig Giles or Christian Gudierrez.
There's literally nothing you can do.Brandonniscoto is going to remain a midfielder.
But I do find it very interestingTony, just how well he fits
in as a forward on this team, and whether that's two years down the

(01:11:44):
road, you know, at somepoint in the future, or just situationally,
to Void gets hurt or someone getssuspended, or Craig has another this
or that. Right, I justthink it's really interesting that when he's given
that chance to move up, heimmediately becomes one of the best forwards in

(01:12:04):
the entire league. Yeah, andit's having like a in Spanish, you
call it the comaldin the Joker andthe deck of Cards, right, where
he can really play in different waysin a very professional manner. But I
mean you heard me say in adifferent context on on Sundays broadcast, But
situations are situational, right, That'sreally when you need to have that very

(01:12:28):
versatile player that can slot in anddo various jobs proficiently, because again,
is your team going to be betteroff having him and the offensive side of
the ball because you have everything youneed to make him successful where he's going
to be. That's that's again thequestion. Not out of my pay grade,
Greg, Greg Salvagia will take careof that, hopefully better than I

(01:12:53):
could. But no, it's goingto be an interesting thing to follow here
and where he continues to get thoseminutes and you know, barring any injury,
it's it's good to I'd rather havethat on my team than not have
it on the team. And I'mreally glad to have these discussions because you
know, it's it's putting us ina weird situation where you know, what
if he flips it around in acouple of games and he starts being more

(01:13:15):
productive on the other side of theball instead of the midfield, that's it's
going to be something to look forwardto maybe the players themselves are looking forward
to knowing how can I get Escotoand shoot us a little bit more involved
with with the way that we play. Just something to think about for the
future in the present. I mean, look, we've got as good a
forward group as you could possibly havewith Devoi, Gudierrez and Childs. Anyone

(01:13:40):
would take that forward group over theirown. I think in the league so
much ado about nothing self generated controversyhere, but not again, like I
said, not to say that Brandonshould become a forward, just that he's
really really good when he does so. Uh kind of cool, kind of

(01:14:01):
cool. And with that, Seasonsix, episode eight of Soccer's Overtime stop
next week, we'll be here theday after Christmas, so you don't take
time. Everyone has Konica or whetheryou are getting ready for Christmas, whether
