(04:02):
man, it's been a big day. It's been a long day. I
saw you pop up a couple ofthe comments. We finally got to make
the announcement this morning on ninety sevento three the Fan here in San Diego
that the ten am to two pmslot, the midday slot will be occupied
by myself and Annie Hilbrunn for thefuture going forward, and that our first

(04:25):
show will be Thursday morning at teno'clock. Spent pretty much the whole day
at the radio station today before droppingon down here. And you know,
first off, I'm putting that outthere just to let everybody know because I
know there's a lot of folks whoare fans and want to follow. And
yes, we're going to have aweekly soccer segment on our station. Yes,

(04:46):
the Soccers are going to be ateam that we will talk about from
time to time on our show. But the thing I want to make clear
Tony, to all the soccers fanson this podcast and on this forum is
that soccer is overtiming going anywhere.I'm not going anywhere. I'm not leaving
the game. I'm not leaving theteams. Uh. Whereas we're here,
we're double pinching. You know,we're gonna we're gonna just double shift it.

(05:12):
Uh. But it's gonna be aton of fun. I can't wait
to get started with Annie Halburn.I'm honored and excited to be able to
team up with one of the mostrespected people in town. Uh and and
to be a part of a mixedgender show on sports talk radio in San
Diego and to have the opportunity todo that. So it's been a long

(05:33):
day. Big thanks to everybody whohas reached out on the phone or on
social media. UH and whatnot. And again, Soccers Overtime, Soccer's Padre
sta all continues. Nothing's changing SanDiego, Wave PA. Anything else that
I can conjure up and do uhas as the year moves on, Uh,

(05:53):
It's it's gonna keep happening now.Congratulations, I know you know,
we we talked about this just beforethe broadcast, and honestly, it's something
that's gonna benefit this uh, thiscommunity in this in soccer sense, right
if we want to just talk aboutsoccer. Obviously, you're a treasure trove
of baseball knowledge. I've had theprivilege to sit next to you during a
Padres game and it was probably oneof my favorite Padres in Baseball viewing experiences

(06:15):
of my life. So that's gonnabe great. But in general, like
now, it's something that it's anotheravenue for the San Diego Soccers to have
a platform on it and soccer ingeneral. So I wish nothing but the
best. And as as far asAnnie, I mean, that's a that's
a somebody who has some knowledge nextto you. So I don't know,
you're gonna have to keep up Craigwith Annie. I agree. I couldn't

(06:39):
agree more. Uh, you know, and I can't wait for uh for
the show. And like I said, you know San Diego FC, San
Diego WAVEFC, San Diego Soccers. You know, these are clubs that we're
gonna hold close to our heart onthe show. And I think there's strategic
relevance as well to positioning as asoccer show because we are soccer city San

(07:01):
Diego. Hey, I don't carehow the prop G vote went. We
are still a soccer city and ithas been proven out over time. I'm
thrilled to be on the radio duringthis time in San Diego sports as opposed
to talking about AJ Smith and NorthTurner and whatever other charter is nonsensetogyout absolutely

(07:28):
so. And by the way,I just saw a question on the chat.
Our show will be on YouTube everysingle day from ten to two Pacific,
in addition to being on the airwavesand on the Odyssey app, which
is our parent company. So ifyou happen to be someone that you know,
wherever you're living and you're not withinthe San Diego region, you can

(07:48):
go to YouTube to the ninety sevento three the fan SD page and we
will be live there every day fromten to twelve, or from ten to
two, I should say so tento twelve and then twelve to two.
He's probably not your own schedule,Craig. Well, at twelve, I'm
just gonna get up and they're like, no, you're half done. Go

(08:09):
get a juice box and some gummyfruits and get back in their second half
still to play, So very muchunderstood. But yeah, exciting day,
very exciting day, thanks to everybody. I can't wait to go to sleep
and to play one more final roundof morning weekday golf tomorrow and then it's
in studio for the rest of mylife, hopefully Monday through Friday. So

(08:33):
great stuff. Okay, tavoys comingup at bottom of the hour, let's
get to it. We only haveone recap this week, so we had
a little wiggle room right here, but let's get into the Sockers and the
Tacoma Stars from Saturday night. Greatcrowd, really well seated crowd as well,
and here's Tavoy Morgan getting things offon the good foot. Tony,

(08:54):
I love it when to voice scoresin a maturally no surprise, he wound
up with three. Yeah, Tavoireally looks like a different ta Void Morgan
than we saw last year, especiallyat home, and he's really enjoying his
role and he even spoke to Melissaafter the match, spoke about how everything
is coming together, the defensive efforts, helping the midfield who then is helping

(09:15):
him do some of letting him dosome of these great just contributing ways in
the soccers because he's playing really, really really well even when he's not scoring.
Speaking of playing really well, BorisPardo was off to a great start
right away. But here's one goalconceded and this is just a Nick Pereira
specialty right here. The consecutive soulroles followed by the back heel use of

(09:41):
that six to three frame to wardoff one of the best defenders in the
league, Mitchell carden Is, andthen just creating that inch of space and
Ramos is a right footed player,so you know he put a left footed
boot into the top bins here. This is just a great goal for Tacoma
overall. Yeah, and you candefinitely see that Ta Coma has played the
soccers a couple times and they havesome sort of attack and strategy when it
comes to it, but overall thesoccer is prepared very differently, as Philosophogia

(10:07):
was saying for every single match,so this was no different. Now.
The other story, of course onthe night was Milestone Watch because Chris Toth
of the Stars was four saves awayfrom having the MASL all time record.
Here was his first big save ofthe night he needed four. Meanwhile,
Craig Childs needed two points to getto four hundred in his MAASL career.

(10:30):
We will see the one point hegot a little bit later. But really,
when you especially when you watch backthrough this, Boris Pardo stands up
at the beginning of this match tomake sure that there's no error along the
way, Like these aren't plus plusbonus saves, but critical saves, the
right saves. Just getting the jobdone was huge for this club and those

(10:58):
saves have consequences, right, Thesesaves then lead to a counter attack for
the soccers, or they lead tosomething that leads to a blue card or
a chance that Tacoma has to fouland just give the soccers a breather.
But it's from It starts from theback. And if it wasn't for Boris,
I don't know how this game wouldhave gone. Early on, it
wouldn't have been maybe that score line. But Boris just became a different animal

(11:22):
in that first half. Absolutely yousaw within Eddie Trujillo's recap there Soccer's got
away with it too many men inthe field penalty in the first quarter and
then get the lead back. Andthis was I think a really underrated play
by Brandon Niscoto, just to havethe recognition to see the ball in the
air, simultaneously see his target downthere and say I don't have to take

(11:43):
a touch, I don't have tobring this ball down and control it.
I'm going to go directly into apass and then to avoid knows to what
to do with it. But beforewe say anything else, let's talk about
this goal of the year. Sodirty, so dirty, Drew ruggles.
Why you got to do them likethat? Drew? It's just as pretty

(12:03):
as it gets. Like that's purepoetry in motion. You don't need to
rifle it in, you don't needto muscle somebody off. No, just
a simple tap in, knowing wherethe spaces are, and you know what,
if it didn't go in, whata great effort. But when it
does go in, pan it's sweet. Yeah. And I see Kate Ibberts
say, you know, it wasa cheeky goal, but maybe Charlie's was

(12:24):
the goal of the game. AndI get it. And there's different styles.
I just one of the things Itruly love about soccer, Tony,
you know, I mean, surethere's different kinds of home runs in terms
of an arcing home run or aline drive homer, but they all go
over the fence. Like in soccer. You can smash it one hundred miles
an hour or you can lobb itover the keeper. But sometimes just the

(12:46):
precision and the confidence to be ableto make a cheeky play is the difference
in anything. And the speed ofplay for Drew Ruggles and even you were
talking about a skul though it seemslike everything is just a middlesecond slower and
they see the field differently and that'swhen you don't need to be sprinting all
over the place, and you sometimesget just finesse in expressive. Man,

(13:11):
it's like a baroque painting. I'mjust in awe of it. Hey,
we just saw four to one ona Layo power play goal which goes off
of Corey heat Keat's heel, andI just want to say, because I
had to apologize in the last showfor casting a broadcasting spell to get Justin
Stinton going, how about it,Tony, I put Corey Keats in the
open, said he scores every timehe comes to town. And look he

(13:35):
scored again. Weren't wrong? Thestreak continues. Yeah, so my powers
can work for good and evil,as it turns out, I just need
to control them better and I'm workingwith Professor Xavier to get that done.
End of the second quarter, thisis really where Boris Pardo comes to shine,
and we're about to see him.Watch this deflect the reaction, Tony,

(13:58):
that's a goal nine out of ten. Now we're going to see him
Deny Perrera on the doorstep momentarily. But to stop a deflection shot like that
is special. Yeah, and that'sone of those skills that you know,
as you're getting older as a goalkeeper, sometimes they deteriorate the reflexes and that's
not happening with Boris. He's gettingit done in so many different ways.
Much like you're saying a goal canbe scored in different ways, a safe

(14:20):
can come from any direction, andit's something that if done right on once,
it's great. But he kept doingit in this particular matchup over and
over and over again. Here isGuerrero Pino scoring lovely counter half field counter
three v one. Gabriel Costa makesthe right decision to send in Pino clean

(14:43):
on this play. Absolutely outstanding recognitionand to put this one. And this
was the goal we talked about iton the broadcast, Tony, the goal
that really set this game up forSan Diego. If they come out and
concede early four to two, couldbe a different match. And what I
really appreciate about Saturday Night's match is, even though we see this beautiful goal

(15:05):
from Alessandro Canally, I mean, individual effort sick, absolutely great. Another
Goal of the Week candidate. Soccer'snever let Tacoma feel like they were really
in this game after the first quarter. Yeah, it seems like soccers have
hit a different gear. And obviously, seeing Tacoma now for the third time,
you have a recognition of the playstyle. And you know, obviously

(15:26):
Nick Perrero being as great as heis, but once you see him enough
times, you start to know whathis patterns are in trying to get lay
off the ball with his teammates,so you can cut those passes earlier.
But yeah, no, they neverlet off the gas. And this I
was waiting for that third quarter wherethe soccers just maybe let him back in
the game, but that just neverhappened, and I'm very glad to have
seen that. By this point inthe match, of course, Chris Toth

(15:48):
had already picked up his fourth savedand become the saves leader. He then
decided to just make it his lifeschool to deny Greig Giles his four hundredth
point. You know, Chris hada fine game. It wasn't like one
of his best games. And there'sa great goal by Charlie Gonzalez. As
Kate Ibberts said, maybe that wasthe goal of the match from a purely
aesthetic h I disagree. I loveRuggles goal. I mean, this is

(16:11):
just a really high skill goal rightthere. This is a high skill goal
by Charlie Gonzales. Terrific, terrificgoal. I don't know. I'm just
I'm going to vote Ruggles every time. Yeah, if I was, if
I was to vote on which one'sbetter, I think it'd be Ruggles.
If I was a player, I'drather score Ruggles goal. Then Childie's all
right there, here's Craig's chance forfour hundred. No, Chris To says

(16:33):
no, Chris To refuses, stillyrude. If you think about it,
on Chris, we gave you yourrecord. Nonetheless, here's the cookie goal.
Charlie Gonzalez scores Cravery cookies for everybodyseven plus goals in a soccers home
match. Cravery Cookie coupon redeemable inPoint Loma location or San Diego State.
I'll be going to the San DiegoState location to redeem some Cravery Cookie coupons,

(16:56):
probably tomorrow with my son. Andyou know the best thing is,
Tony, you get those Cravery cookiecoupons. You don't drive to the store,
walk in and go Hi, I'dlike one free cookie, please.
You always buy a couple more, you know, you buy a couple more
to way got two childs like that. Come on, yeah, no,
that was honestly, you can tellthere was some frustration in Craig because he

(17:18):
knew he was close, he knewhe's won away, and the team also
was trying to look for him andit just wasn't working out for whatever reason.
And man like, it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen. You can't
rust these things. And you knowyou got to three ninety nine. He'll
get in there and do time.Soccer's got another power play in the fourth
quarter. San Diego perfect on theirpower plays. Even though Tavoy had some

(17:41):
golden chances for a hat trick,he'll get Just stay patient to boy,
you'll get it there. It istime to dance the hat trick for Tavoy.
We're starting to see, I think, Tony, what we had hoped
to see with the San Diego Soccerspower play. I still think it even
has room to grow, gain efficiencyand get better. But and as Eddy

(18:04):
Bear asks, like, I mean, how talented are the soccers right now?
No room for Brandon Ascoto on thepower play? Well, what you're
doing as well as this group is, it's it's kind of hard and costa
is showing, Leo is showing whoare you going to take out? You're
gonna take out one of those guys. It's a tough call. They've got
a lot of talent for the manadvantage, and numbers don't lie right now,

(18:26):
especially comparing these power play goals comparedto what they were averaging last season,
and that's something that was asked offor this team, is to really
tidy that up. And as Isaid, there's still room and for improvement,
but it's just a matter of identifyingexactly which ways and what players are
going to go ahead and attack inthose in those scenarios. And again it's
it's a work in progress, butI think the Soccers are in a really

(18:47):
good spot right now. Just towrap up this highlight reel, we see
the Christian Gutierrez empty net goal andthat seems like mostly unimportant in the end
of a common dub for this SanDiego Soccers. I'll tell you what,
this might be one of the biggergoals of the season, Tony, because
this is one of your goal scorers, Christian Gutierrez. We're going to get

(19:07):
to watch ruggles here one more time. I just hang on. I celebrate
his entire catalog. This is thisis so pretty. Remember he had the
gumption to make a million dollar behindthe back pass in the TST final to
get the clinching goal. This kid'sgot chutzpah. I absolutely love everything we

(19:33):
see from this guy. But hey, a complete win for the San Diego
Soccers, a nine to three victory. And I was mentioning Christian Gudiere's twenty
two goals last year, seventeen inthe fourth quarter or overtime. This is
a big player for San Diego, and he's had seasons tony in the past
where he got off with a slowstart and didn't hit the net on his
first few chances and stopped taking chances. And we want Christian Gutierrez to put

(19:59):
his right boot through the blo.We want him to be to be golden
goody Eras and have those opportunities. And in order to do that, you
got to have confidence. So Idon't mind an empty net. Or just
like if a guy's in an ohfor twenty two slump in baseball and they
get a little crack bat ducks Nordover the second basement's head that dumps into
the green for a base hit,Like, hey, I like that because
you saw the ball hit the turf, you saw yourself get a hit.

(20:22):
Now you get that confidence. Ifeel like that could be the case for
Christian too. Yeah, and againit's a matter of when he's gonna go
ahead and peak too, because youhave this array of goal scorers, of
attacking options, and yeah, theyare getting it done, absolutely, But
if it comes down to it laterin the season where somebody has an injury
or somebody's a little bit of rest, and that's when Gotierra is starting to

(20:44):
peak on his own, then that'sgoing to be ideal for the soccer season
in general. Because again, ifGutierres is having won two goals chipping at
it, but then he explodes closerto the postseason, when things are getting
a little bit more difficult and tightas far as margins of error, then
that's definitely going to be a goodtime for him to step up. But

(21:06):
again, I agree with you, that's something that needs to happen. The
account needs to be opened, andLuke the others took that one to the
bank. Absolutely. Just a coupleother tags on this. I know for
soccers fans, this is routine. It's not routine in sports. After the
match. The soccers players literally didn'teven go to the locker room. They

(21:27):
first went around the pitch to individuallytake pictures and sign autographs for fans who
were hanging over the low barrier andinteracting, having those you know, player
fan connections, and then they allsat down at a row of card tables
for about an hour. And Imean you saw it. It was.

(21:48):
They didn't get up at like,oh, there's thirty minutes, now there's
twenty minutes. Sorry, you're cutoff. No, they waited till the
last person in line got every singleautograph they needed, every single pit picture,
every single connection, every single conversation, it all happened. I mean,
I was just talking in my otherline of work about another franchise that
I won't name, that they're afraidto put their winning player on the postgame

(22:12):
show for two minutes because what ifthey say no? Or what if they
what if? What if? Whatif? And the soccers are there to
connect with their fans every single match, whether we have a postmatch autograph session
or whether we don't. So Ijust I continue to be impressed by the

(22:33):
way these guys, and I knowthey don't make thirty million dollars a year.
I know, they don't make sixtyeight million dollars a year like Showyotani
will make when he's retired or whateverLionel Messi is making from Miami. But
these guys still put their all intoa match for well over two hours,
something they've planned for all day,and then sit down for another hour just

(22:55):
for fan service. I'm I'm continuouslyimpressed by this. Yeah, And that's
just the culture of of the SanDiego soccers through and through. Right,
you do have some newcomers coming inwith Ruggles and Bolls. You know,
they they know they automatically don't evenquestion it. There are some of the
first ones to get down there.I mean, you saw Ruggles just isn't
afraid to be himself. He's reallyenjoying being a San Diego soccer and and

(23:18):
that's that's part of it, right, just really being part of the community
and backing you know, your fanswhen they're getting yelled at, when when
the opposing team is maybe you know, being a little bit mean to some
of our friends and Cowboy and Gabenext to their bench because they're being a
little bit too loud. But honestly, that's that's beautiful to see and it
continues to really show why the SanDiego Soccers are the epitome of what a

(23:41):
sports franchise should be here in SanDiego, and they get it done on
and off the field, and Ilove to see that. So now things
start to get tougher and we'll talkabout it a little more at the end
of the show. Tony will talkabout Sunday's match against Texas. But the
Soccers have had one therefore weekend interstateback to backs. They knocked that out.

(24:04):
That's great. Then they got awhole holiday breakoff and then a one
match weekend, and then this comingweekend a one match weekend, as cushy
as it gets, but that's gonnalight the fuse on the bottle rocket for
the San Diego Soccers twenty twenty fourportion of their schedule, because now it
is the seventh against Texas and thenthe eleventh a holy cow, we have

(24:29):
to do this up in Anaheim Fuotsalexhibition at the Anaheim Convention Center against Empire
Strikers where one team has one hundredbillion times more motivation than the other team.
For the MASL Pro Indoor Cup.How are we gonna handle it,
Tony. If Empire sends their ateam against the kids like our college draft

(24:52):
and the kids that we've signed toour club and beats us on a futsal
court and then acts like we wantthe Indoor Cup, Like I'm gonna have
to struggle with that. Yeah, you know, it's gonna be a trophy,
that is it really gonna mean alot to us if we win it.

(25:14):
I mean it'll be good to Iguess have that and nobody else,
and especially Empire. But you justknow that's gonna happen, and they're not
gonna stop with you know, withreigning defending Cup champions Empire Strikers, who
now host the the team that wantsrevenge the Sandy right like they've always wanted

(25:36):
it. Undefeated in this tournament,Empire, undefeated, the all time footstal
dominant Empire Strikers. But I don'twant to lose the Strikers ever. But
if we lose in the eleventh,it's fine. But then the thirteenth is
at Tacoma. The fourteenth is versusChihuahua at home. So there's our second

(26:00):
interstate back to back, and it'llwrap up the seventeenth with Empire on the
road, so home date Texas meaninglessexhibition, but players are going to play
in it. Flight to Tacoma gameon the thirteenth, flight home the biggest
game of the year so far onthe fourteenth. It's a gauntlet. It's

(26:22):
an absolute gauntlet, and the soccersare going to have to walk through it
over the course of the next twoweeks. Yeah, definitely, and that
recovery period is definitely something that's incrediblyimportant. We saw the turnaround when they
had to fly over to Texas andcome back in eight quarters in twenty four
hours, something that's absolutely brutal inany sport, let alone soccer. Man
Like the indoor game is sometimes peopleI know see it and they say,

(26:45):
oh, it's a smaller field.No, because it's a smaller field,
it's more difficult, and it's tiresome, and it's harder to sometimes recover,
and the joints and the knees takea little bit longer to heal, and
then you have to fly over.I mean, it's there's a reason these
are all professional athletes and perform atsuch a peak elite level. All right,

(27:07):
it's the bottom of the hour,Tony. We have recapped a big
win for the San Diego Soccers. We are now ready to welcome in our
special guest. He is one ofthe top strikers in the Major Arena Soccer
League. He is our number nine. He was an MSL Elite six in
twenty twenty two, twenty three ortwenty one twenty two. Got a sneaking
suspicion he might be right back thereon the first team in twenty twenty three

(27:30):
twenty four. One of our dearfriends and one of the million dollar winners
from TST and Newtown Pride to FC, the one and only to Void Morgan,
is joining us live on Soccers Overtime. Ta Void, your smiling face
puts a smile on my face everytime I see it. How are you,
my friend? I'm good, I'mgood. After New Year's a tony,

(27:52):
that's all. It's great to seeyou, my friend. And thanks
on behalf of apps. Everybody uhin our audience, that's thanking you in
the chat as well for being here. Let's start off real nice and easy.
It was a great win on Saturdaynight nine to three. You got
the hat trick, you got thechance to celebrate. What were your thoughts?
You know now just a couple ofdays back on how the team came

(28:15):
together on Saturday night. Uh,first, we did want to get the
win to end the here going intothe new year. And for sure we
were pep here for this one knowingthat we got to get ridym going into
the new year. So it wasjust off from training grown it started for

(28:36):
that game, So it was itwas good to get that win. Love
it, no, And it's greatseeing you have that smile and have that
confidence about you and you're off toa great start this season. Talking about
that confidence, how are you feelingright now? I mean, you got
the hair going, you got themoves going, you got everything going.
It seems too at the beginning ofthe season. Ta boy. Yeah,

(28:57):
start with coach and the players, the new players that we get. You
know, I have Leo Charlie,I have players that like to pass the
ball. So I'm really happy inthe situation. I mean every game I
just have to like be an openspot and just finish my chances. You

(29:17):
know, it's been so fun towatch you to avoid because you came to
San Diego, and I think you'dagree it's still a young player, right,
young player in your career young playerin the indoor game, and we
know your natural talent. We sawthat shine in the COVID season when you
came over and we won that firstchampionship. But like you're now four or
five years into your indoor career,I'm wondering, like, what do you

(29:41):
feel you've learned about playing the targetposition, whether it's from Craig, whether
it's from other players as you've grown, Like what do you feel you've learned
that you're better at now that youweren't before. I'm still learning at that
time. I'm still learning from mycaptain because every target play different, so
I'm just wanting to be different fromeverybody else. As you know, I'm

(30:07):
learning, like to use the boardsmore off when the balls go to the
boards and stuff like that because Ilike ball at my feet, so I
just have to get used to thatmore. That's it. I love that.
And I'm speaking of target right.Somebody who finds you very often is
the Brasida. So what's your connectionwith Leo And why do you guys click

(30:30):
so well and so much on andoff the field. Uh, I don't
know, It's just just the heart. You know, we both have a
good heart. Just good spirit. Our teammates. I know, we band
on and off the shield. Youknow, I look up to him,
you look up to me. Hepushed me. So that's what I like
with him mostly. You know,he pushed me, said, come on,

(30:52):
boy, you know so I likethat. Off the field is we
leave neighbor, we neighbors. SoI go to him, I get food,
stuff like that. So the cutacshut is good. I liked it.
Yeah. Man, When I seethe two of you, whether it's
on the practice pitch, whether it'sin the locker room, I just kind
of feel like these are two brothersfrom another mother. Yeah. Yeah,

(31:15):
I told him that we brothers, you know. So yeah, Hey to
Boyd, let's talk about team defense. I think through the first three matches
of the year, hey, soccersare three and all. We love it,
but six goals, six goals, seven goals allowed. Certainly boris not
feeling it. You know, thedefender's not feeling where the team was.

(31:37):
I know you guys came out ofthat Dallas match almost feeling like you lost
it, even though you did winit. And since then three goals allowed,
three goals allowed. What do youthink about this team's commitment to defense
and how it's been able to getback to it the last couple of games.
Uh and the beginning Mitchell played afirst game and got hurt. Called
Mitchell is a big part for usin the defense and p you know also

(32:00):
you know Jew a little we're alittle bang. So it's all started from
bards. They're talking and stuff fromthe midfield. Serta also there covering up.
I mean, we just getting started. This is the new year,
and we talk about it. Sowe just get in there ready. As

(32:22):
you can see. If we wantto give up three goals the other day,
so that's served goals for the restof the year, no more than
three. Love and we've been hearingthat from some other players too, that
same number three three goals, nomore. You should be in the place,
h and talking about the new year. The first match is gonna be
the Sunday to come. Excuse me, the Texas Outlaws are coming to town.

(32:44):
One of the only two teams tobeat the Soccers last season. What
are you expecting from this match againstthe Texas Outlaws. I know they're going
to come full force and we're goingto be ready for that. We have
all the weapons and we take itfor practice. Well, we know they
got Vinnie and stuff both. Theyhave to also worry about us. Called

(33:05):
we at home. We don't loseat home, so we take care of
home, you know, so theyhave to worry about us. We just
got those door stuff in practice andcome out and pip here. Just following
up on that tvoy. You knowa couple of the kids who I think
are really making their name in thissport. Or David Ortiz, Sebastian Mendez.
Those are a couple of kids whowere at tst uh you know,
different clubs, but but still theywere at that tournament same as you guys.

(33:30):
Uh. They've shown their ability inthe league or tees. You know,
flashy, sometimes controversial Mendez, goodshot, good passing. You know.
Now they've got Morales, they've gotDontas, They've got some guys who
can finish it as forwards. Butjust what are your thoughts on those young
players coming in kind of you know, making a name for themselves. I

(33:50):
mean, honestly, they're good.I'm not going to lie. You know,
they good, but we are goingto be a matchup for them for
sure, So they're going to seethe tests that they needed. Just like
Casey who beat them the one game, so it's going to be a test
for them with us and also forus to it's a big game, so

(34:12):
we don't want to lose our firstgame and the new year. So yeah,
yeah, I love that. Andyou know, getting ready for this
week ahead. The two weeks thatyou have are very heavy when it comes
to travel, when it comes togames and matchups. How are you preparing
for this and what are you expectingfor this next couple of weeks moving forward
in the new year. We justhave to stay healthy, take care of

(34:36):
our body. Paul Savage doing agreat job as always every day in practice,
Coach doing a good job. Makesure that we don't overwork every body
and stuff like that. So wereally prepare and focus for these couple of
days coming up for the games.I know we're going to have some tough
back to back games, but it'sall on our body or mind. So

(34:58):
coach, make sure that we allstay focused. And Paul Savage so scooed
for host Paul Savage. You can'tsay him enough, Team MVP, Paul
Savage. Before we let you goto boy, let's dig into the big
topic dancing. This is something thatis near and dear to your heart.
You're very very good at it.You're an outstanding You love to dance.

(35:22):
So do you think I'm curious aboutprocess? All right, from one artist
to another, I'm very curious aboutprocess. Are you someone who like early
in the morning thinks like, well, what if I score my first goal,
I'm going to do this. Butif I score my second goal,
I'm going to do that? Oris it entirely spontaneous? Is all off
the top of your head? Likewhere do the moves and machinations come from?

(35:45):
From the locker room? Honestly camefrom the locker room. We miss
our own. Then I came upwith something this is cool, and then
all right, if I score,we're going to do this. So I
tell players to join me when Iscore, so they understand I showed him
the move. But it's started fromJamaica. The will the Jamaicans we warm

(36:05):
up. We have a lot ofdance group in Jamaica. So I used
to be at dance when I wasyoung, So I have a lot of
moves. It doesn't matter the music, I could still dance to it.
You know, I still have themoves. So I'm just trying to get
my teammates into that mood, youknow, like get fans smiling, show
that you can dance, you know, just let it out. So I

(36:27):
think you have a lot of greatdance partners. I noticed that you tried
to recruit your real Pino into adance Ye need more class. I love
it well, the boy man.You are one of the bright lights in
the league. You're a dear friend. It is so great to have you
here in San Diego. You're sucha critical part of this club. Thank

(36:51):
you for just being you, butalso thank you for your time here tonight.
I can't wait to see you outSunday at the field. Thank you,
Thank you. Opinion your to myfriends and one stay safe, bless
you. Thank you taking care ofmy friend. I have a good one
absolutely at Tavoy Underscore BALLA B AL A on Instagram. I'm wondering if

(37:15):
I'm allowed to dance. I'm playingthis in the in the soccer's halftime show
and we'll get to it here. But like, should I take one of
his moves? Should I make amove of my own when I make a
stop and then show it to him? And maybe I'm better dancer than get
at Alpino already. I don't know. Well, Okay, so now it's
tough because you're a keeper, solike it's it's hard to like make a

(37:36):
save do a dance the ball goesin behind you because you're dancing, and
you're like, so what I'm dancing? You know, but if you could
maybe safe one over the glass, like save one for a corner or something
at that point, Okay, danceis one hundred percent on, you know,
absolutely on. I'm down. I'mdown. Hopefully any somebody is good
enough to put one there where Ican get you know, well, Frank,

(38:00):
Okay, well okay, I'll figureit out. I'll figure it out.
I'll figure it out. Are yousure you want that art shot coming
in? Really think this through alittle bit. I see a lot of
support in the chat for Tony SanchezDance on Sunday, So I think now
we're we're definitely leaning towards this. It's just a matter of like maybe if

(38:22):
you make the safe and the ballgoes down the other side of the field,
right, get out to the topof the d do a couple moves
in the top of the d Ihave five seconds to do whatever I want
with that ball. You know, barring the refereeing decisions that we have.
This is not really the most sanctionedgame at times. But okay, like

(38:43):
I see people want, really wanting, and I'll think of something. Are
you gonna fallow Marlsia's advice and justmake a save? Chuck the ball into
the stance. Use that type fordancing. As long as I get on
the big screen and get that asa highlight and we can play it here.
I think I'll al must or somethingup. Yes, yeah, it's

(39:05):
give me ten seconds of us.I will I will have a whole dancer
team. I'll just do half ofthe smooth criminal dance for Michael Jackson.
I used to be able to knowhow to do that lean all the way
down and come all the way back. Ankles don't do that, and they
had, you know, different shoes. But I'll think of something. I'm
not. I'm a good dancer,but it's it's funny when I dance because

(39:28):
I'm a good dancer. It's justlike how is he moving like that?
Almost like in goal, Like howwas he doing that? How does he
do it? I'm supposed to dothat. I'm I'm I'm not at a
loss for words. I'm just I'mjust amazed. Okay, great stuff from
Tavoi, great stuff early in theshow. Let's get to it. Let's
get to the segment that makes usthe show of record in the m A

(39:51):
s L. It's time for mA s L News. It's time to
talk about the league. You know, just Saturday, being at the arena
before the match, hearing from people. Everyone tunes in Man, yeah they
do, and they listen tunes inAll league tunes in just in case,

(40:13):
do I dare mention their team? What's he gonna say? Now, all
right, let's get into it.Let's talk about the East. You know,
not much happened in the West lastweekend, honestly, you know,
chihuaba was off, Tacoma played EmpireStrikers fall to one and five. We'll
talk about them in a little bit, but I think the action was in
the East. Kansas City played ahome and home against Saint Louis. This

(40:37):
is a normal thing, the MissouriDerby, and you know, Kansas City
wins pretty convincingly at home. Theygo to Saint Louis Family Arena. It's
six' five, it's a prettyclose match, they still win it.
Kansas City wins twice. Kansas Cityup to six and one on the season.
I would say Tony that, knowingwhat we know about them a s

(41:00):
L and the way MASL voters vote, I think Zach Reggitt's got the inside
track to ma as L MVP.Yeah, there's a lot of really good
action happening across the league. Andand and based on what you're saying again
of how the voting usually goes andhow biased or unbiased it is against goalkeepers,

(41:21):
I think that you know, that'ssomething that the lead is going to
take notice of, and those votestend to usually go to those performing very
well on the offensive side, regardlessof how celestial of a being Boris Parto
may be. No, he's he'sa goalkeeper. He doesn't score the goals
they're they're not on the highlight packages. People don't you know, pay to

(41:42):
see the stops, I guess. But it's a shame. But again,
really good stuff happening across the ward. And uh, it'll be interesting because
there's other players that are popping offand other teams around the league as well.
Sure, and if we're just goingto give the Golden boot the MVP,
then you just kept just right away, say Luise Morales because he's off
to a tremendous start for Texas. And if our league is so basic,

(42:05):
so basic, that we just lookat the top point score and say,
well, that must be the MVP, even if he's on a five hundred
team or a losing team or afourth place team, which we kind of
do every year, then great, maybe Louise Morales is the inside track.
Of course, if the soccers holdhim to one goal or no goals and
beat Texas like a drum, votersjust won't notice that at the end of

(42:29):
the year. And I'll just saywhat I always say. I believe in
the NBA version of this, whichis who's the best player on the best
team, and that should be theautomatic favorite for MVP, not who led
the league in scoring. Who's thebest player on the best team, And
that's that's not the direction the leaguegoes. This is not a diss of

(42:50):
Zach Regor. I don't in casesomeone in Kansas City is watching this and
like, oh something, no no, no, no, no no,
no, Zach Regor is doing great, and I see Callum in the chat
bring it up. But I absolutelythink a change of scenery has done a
world of good for Zach reggittt. You know, we heard all of the
nonsense that took place in Florida withZach and it was not fair to the

(43:12):
player. And then the exile toHarrisburg for a couple of games, and
finally the trade that sent him toKansas City. He's in the right place.
He's excelling, he's in the primeof his career. He is playing
terrific. I mean, you knowthat goal he had where he warded off
the defender and swung into the theyou know, lefty kick that was gorgeous,

(43:36):
and then did push ups like he'skilling it. You know, Zach
Regan's killing it. I love it. I appreciate it, and I really
think, you know, a tonof credit to Kansas City, Tony.
They had over five thousand at CableDomer Arena, like a real five thousand,
not a fake announced five thousand likesome teams do for their game.
They're winning on and off the fieldright now. I think Kansas City is

(43:59):
the class of this league in termsof the total package on and off the
field, getting the job done, exciting a big time sports community that's got
plenty of Major league teams and reallyracking in the attendance. I'm very impressed.
Yeah, you have to be happyfor the health of the league because
of those numbers. I was lookingat it at the beginning of the season

(44:21):
and I'm like, oh, well, you know, usually the Soccers have
some some decent averages here and there, but you see the numbers that Kansas
City's pulling off on that blue turf, and it's it's rather impressive, especially
with the options. And I knowother teams here in San Diego locally like
to say, well, you know, people have the potters to choose from,
they have this to choose from. Why would they come People are coming
and watching mal action and they're doingsomething right over there. So again,

(44:45):
kudos to what's happening over in KansasCity. With the comments, I'm seeing
some really smart comments in the chatand I'm going to address those momentarily.
So Kansas City, Yeah, beatSaint Louis twice. They're up to six
and one. UCFC beats Harrisburg twice, Utica City up to six and oh
you know, they've got one morewin than the Soccers so far. They're

(45:07):
the current shield holders on the livestandings table at six and oh, and
you know, they beat Harrisburg acouple of times. And you know,
no disrespect to the capital seat ofthe great state of Pennsylvania and the fine
denizens thereof nor the folks who cometo the farm Show Equine Complex Arena to

(45:30):
watch Harrisburg play love it great stuff. But Utica beat him and Harrisburg isn't
having a good year at all sofar, just like the last almost every
year. And hey, big creditto Utica. They're getting the job done.
Frank has three goals to assists inthat game. We haven't seen the

(45:51):
King go off yet, but they'vehad scoring from other places. The kid
Ronaldinho Denise has been very good.See is winning. The Blues are winning
without Gordy, you know, doingmassive contributions to the team, Gordy Gerson.
So hey, big shout out tothe Blues. Utica City doing well
again off the field as well andon the field. Yeah, they're actually

(46:15):
one of the teams that I'm keepingan eye on because they just seem so
fun to the way they play,in the way that they're doing things over
there, especially what happened last seasonand how they rallied together to make it
into the playoffs. They were areally solid team at the end of the
of the season, and so it'sgood to see them carry that into this
new year with the new pieces thatthey have at their disposal. So now

(46:37):
I ask the question, is thereany reason for me to change my mind
about saying that Monterey is the favoritein the East? I don't know.
I don't know. Just we haveI don't think there's enough of a sample

(46:59):
side where you can put these teamsat their best head to head and really
see Monterey take, you know, take that leap forward. But it's very
possible, especially with the talent thatthey have, the play style that they're
excelling in, and obviously you know, they've had some very impressive results Monterey
bet. I mean again, maybethat's a change of scenery, right,

(47:22):
We're talking about it earlier with Reggae. Maybe that change of scenery is enough
to make sure that they are absolutelydominant over there. But I think they
will hold that spot for now.Yeah, I'm going to agree with you,
and I agree with my own question. So far, Monterey has played

(47:44):
the toughest schedule in the league. They've gone to Milwaukee, and won,
and they have won a home andhome against Yuala. No one else has
done anything close to that, Soyou know, I take the twenty two
to seven match completely throw it outthe window in terms of, you know,
rating Monterey because that game is irrelevant. But honestly, the Flash have

(48:07):
played good teams and just like KayRibberts says, who has Utica played,
They've played Baltimore and Harrisburg. Whohas Kansas City generally played Saint Louis,
you know these other clubs. Soif Saint Louis, or pardon me,
if Kansas City beats Monterey, ifUdica beats Monterey, obviously it's a completely

(48:29):
different story and will reshuffle. Butright now, I got to put Monterey
on top, and honestly, Ithink it's pretty solidly so still yeah,
no, and again I do likethat, Well, we'll wait to that
Monterey Utica City because again, thetides could turn in that sense, But
when it comes to longevity and thetalent and the depth that Monterey has,
I think they're more set up andbuilt for the long term success then Utica

(48:54):
is potentially you know, there's stilla question marks there of proved me wrong,
me wrong, territory and they're provingpeople wrong, they're shutting mouths up.
But let's see how long that thatthat stays that way. And hey,
look when you kind of look atthe overall calculus of the year,
the fact that Monterey and Chihuahua playeach other four times, and they're gonna

(49:15):
play each other twice this weekend again, They're gonna have four straight results against
one another. That's nothing but greatfor teams like San Diego and Utica and
Kansas City, because hey, Montereyhas won twice already. If Monterey wins
twice again this weekend, the soccer'spath to the Western title is wide open,

(49:37):
wide open. They could lose toChihaba twice and still be right there
as long as they took care ofbusiness against Texas. Not to say that
the soccers are gonna lose to Chihuahuatwice, just to say that the path
would be wide open for the team. And you know, Texas is tough
on their home floor, that thatlumpy, bumpy field at mesquit Arena,

(50:00):
you know, with the weird crowdand everything in the low walls, the
bouncy turf, it's a tough placeto play. But I still personally am
not going to change my conviction.I think Chihuahua is the second best team
in the West, and I thinkthat Monterey is the best team in the
East. And I think that's goingto play itself out over the course of
twenty four matches. And as sBarber said, as Susan says in the

(50:21):
chat, hey, even the soccershave mostly played Tacoma Empire Dallas on the
road. So we're going to lookat these next couple of weeks as a
much bigger temperature or litmus test forthe soccers to see can you take care
of business? You know, Texasat home? You should take care of

(50:43):
business. You should handle this team. You've handled them every time in the
past. Can you handle them again? And then you get the Tacoma road
Chihuahua home. Can you get throughthat with another two and zero? You
get that? Now the path iswide open for the shield, for home
field advantage. For all of that. Monterey is lurking man. And if

(51:07):
they sweep Shiwala again, you haveto really think about the odds of Monterey
maybe going twenty four and zero.Yeah, yeah, they have that setup
ready to go. And I meanwe've seen the soccers, at least this
season in a couple of small instancesimproving ways that I wasn't expecting where it's

(51:27):
like, okay, well, youknow, maybe the power plays will be
a little bit better, but no, they're they're again shutting mouths up and
doing doing it right. And Ithink that needs to happen a little bit
more when it comes to these youknow, trap games per se, where
they just need to get it done, and they do because we were waiting
for it. In this last roadtrip, they traveled all the way to

(51:49):
Texas, played a Dallas and we'relike, they might drop some points.
Hopefully they come back from this weekendwith six. But if they don't,
it's going to be fine. Buthopefully they do, and they did.
They got all the point they wereavailable, and they move on and they've
been healthy. Now they're recovering alittle bit now with me dri Gottlanas,
and I think if, like you'resaying, if Monterey keep this pace up,

(52:09):
it's going to be you know, concerning in a way where it's exciting.
A couple other notes here Strikers loseto Tacoma, fall to one in
five, just a couple of thingsthat I've been, you know, little
tweety birds out there. First thingsfirst, don't expect to see Lucas Roque

(52:35):
or William Vinzella or Max Ferdinand inan Empire striker's uniform anytime soon. I
think Lucas Roke got one look atwhat's going on and buggered out, and
he's in Florida with his family andthey're talking about it. It's a family
matter, as if it's something tobe resolved. Happily proved me wrong.
But I don't think we're going tosee anything. I see Kate Ibbert and

(52:59):
he's brought it up twice in thechat. I personally haven't heard anything about
Monterey's rik. You on Ponce comingto Empire, I'm not sure he's a
visent player, although he has beenin the United States in the past.
If they got him, he'd bea huge help to them. He's I
think thirty six now. But ericJon Ponce is a good player. He's

(53:22):
solid, he can have the ballat his feet, he can create,
he can be a forward. SoI mean the strikers need somebody. They
did a great job moving Stefan Miatovicup to forward from defender. Tony he
got a couple of goals, hada chance at the third. I mentioned
that to Paul when I Paul rightwhen I saw him at the Soccers match.
I'm like, hey, good movemoving Stephan a good coaching movie.

(53:43):
He's like, yeah, but nowwe need him in the back. I
consider cloning steff on mi Atovitch. This might be a great strategy for your
franchise. But you know, Ikind of I just I kind of want
to stick up for Paul a littlebit, like the situation up there in
Empire, and I feel like they'resetting them up to fail a little bit,

(54:04):
and I hope that's not the case. You know. I'm just really
excited to see a new direction forthe Empire Strikers franchise. And I'm a
little bummed in some of the thingsI've read and some of the things I've
heard in terms of what's happening inthat franchise. In regards to Paul,
I think you got to give Paula chance to set a culture. I

(54:28):
don't think you can talk about oneand five and be like, oh,
well, now we know things aren'tgoing right, Like, dude, you
were going to be one in fiveno matter who was your coach right now
or maybe oh and six. Itwasn't a matter of like, oh well,
if we had Jimmy instead of Paul, we'd be this or that.
Like, no, the club iswhere it's at. And give this man
who's got more indoor knowledge than theirentire roster put together, you know,

(54:53):
give him a chance to cook andto install a culture, install a system,
and see it come to light.I'd like to see that for Empire.
Maybe just because Paul's a personal friend. I don't know, but I
feel like some of the things Iread, even just in their own team
release, being like, well, now at one in five, we're gonna
have a hard time making the playoffs. Guys, what are you doing?

(55:15):
I know this is the franchise thatbrought us hashtag Championship bound, but like,
what are you doing? Like comeon, yeah, level set properly,
you know, yeah, And youknow you're not really doing yourself a
favor because you're shining this giant lightand putting the pressure, even if it's
off the field. With the MoncoFabian signing, like it's something that did

(55:37):
draw attention and it did put eyeson this team, you're sending them over
to Clipper games to swap jerseys, and you have this expectation of, well,
this was gonna go ahead and improve, you know, give us an
extra fifteen wins that we wouldn't haveotherwise. But that wasn't going to be
the case anyway. And I seethat that pain again. I study what

(56:00):
the great team over there does forcolor commentary, Philly Panda, and you
know, you feel that you feelthere obviously, you know, not happy
about what's going on, what theyhave to commentate over, because you'd rather
do a successful winning games. Butit's a situation that I don't know how

(56:22):
one gets out of it. Andas far as you're in with with Paul,
it's it's really tough to see thehuman aspect kind of be managed in
that way. And hopefully they're ableto turn it around somehow. I mean,
one in five is in a deathsentence, i'd say, as opposed
to what they're saying it is andjust throwing their arms already. But you
know, again, for the healthof the league and for the health of

(56:44):
the rivalry in general, right, diamonds cut diamonds, but you know,
diamonds also cut through Plato. Okay, that's the first time I heard that,
and I like it. I likeit. Diamonds do cut through Plato,
Tony like right through? Ye nogive. I used to get the
you know, there used to bethese things called newspapers and Sunday Morning cartoons.

(57:07):
And the thing about Plato used tobe when I was a kid is
that you got it out and you'dflatten it out, and then you'd press
it down on the Sunday Morning cartoonand there would be an ink transfer and
then you'd peel it up and you'dhave like a reverse of whatever it was,
Dennis the Menace or whatever, Kathy, I don't know, think of

(57:31):
those old comic strips and you'd havethat on the Plato and be like,
whoa. Can you imagine, Tony? How it was for children my age,
back in the dark ages, whenthere was no Internet and no photoshop.
This is what we did for fun. I'm old enough to be a
part of the analog phase, anda little bit longer because I grew up

(57:51):
in the Ijuana and I got marbles, I got the tops, I got
the yo Yo's, I got ourversion of them in the in the nineties
was when they came out with theimpressions that you can put for toast and
you can put goofy on your toast, and it was just the burnt image
of goofy on it. And butit was the same kind of concept.

(58:12):
We didn't have Plato over there.Unfortunately. Look that the chat has corrected
me and there are one hundred percentright. It was Silly Putty that you
did the transfer on, not Plato. I'm wrong. I played with both
as a kid, okay, andI conflated the two. So I do
apologize. I'd like apologize to theSilly Putty company. I'd like to apologize

(58:34):
to all fans everywhere worldwide who celebratesilly Putty and its ability to transfer ink
and recognize that it wasn't Plato. So I mean, you could try with
Plato, and I probably did.It doesn't work for sure, but it
is silly putty. There are onehundred percent right it is silly Puddy and

(58:57):
correct diamonds also cut through silly putty. It's just at that. Get that
clear as well. Thank you thatbrings it. That brings an end to
mes old news. Oh wait, one one other thing. Baltimore won a
game, so good on, goodon you blast uh kind of a Milwaukee
fan now because Kelsey, you andme, You and me and the chat

(59:20):
We're together now, Wave all theway because except for that one game when
Sandy goes to Milwaukee, because Uticaseems like a lock. Monterey is a
lock, you know, Kansas Cityis a lock in the East. So
there's one spot from Milwaukee or Baltimore, the two most heralded franchises in the
East. There's one spot for thosetwo teams. And I'm counting on the

(59:45):
Wave to take that so that theBlast missed the playoffs for the first time
ever. And I predicted it,and I'm gonna stick by it, Tony.
I'm riding this horse until it bucksme. The be lost, never
mind the Blast, the be lost. Yeah. Now, there's gonna be
a darkboard in the Baltimore's locker roomwith just your face me, you and

(01:00:09):
just gonna trip me from the anyand Elston Clippers gonna have me up right
in the center of the dark board. Boom boom, nailing me in the
nose. I understand. Yeah,it's okay, it's okay, all right,
that's m ASL news. Let's getto soccers news, wrap up the
show, get to the excitement forSunday, So Sunday five pm, five

(01:00:35):
or five pm Soccers Texas Outlaws Soccerssunglasses being given away while supplies fans alast
to all fans in attendance at PechangArena, San Diego. It's a yellow
frame, it's got the Soccer's scriptlogo on the side there, great stuff.
Absolutely enjoy it. So that's freefor you. But the big news,

(01:00:57):
of course halftime the annual Well SanDiego Soccer's media game. This is
a place where Tony's legend has beenborn and has grown to almost larger than
life, you know levels at thispoint, El Senor Sanchez. So while
I understand that this is going tobe a very exciting, very important night

(01:01:22):
in your life and your career, what are your thoughts right now we're going
to do the media game roster revealhere momentarily. What are your thoughts because
obviously it's an important match between SanDiego and Texas. But what happens in
those eight minutes during halftime, thatis the stuff of legends. So this

(01:01:43):
is going to be a very differentyear, right my first year being able
to play and being allowed to playin the Grand Old Arena, and then
I've dreamed of as a little boy, and that's that's not even I'm not
even kidding. That's one hundred percenttrue. My training consisted of not Todd
Dirkin was the opposing goalkeeper, andworking out for five hours and high fiving

(01:02:05):
Drew Brees' pals and just getting superI was snapping and I was like,
all right, I'm gonna get upand I'm just gonna roll out of bed.
It's a little bit different this yearbecause I do have responsibilities to go
ahead and do color help out withthe commentatios, and those stairs are unforgiving
Craig on the way there, andthat's my main worry. Where I will

(01:02:25):
have you know, some cortosol builtup pre match, getting up to the
booth and and getting everything settled atthat point. Some of the food has
been excellent, thank you, thankyou One one kitchen. Okay, see,
they are phenomenal. So that's somethingthat's also worrying me because if it's

(01:02:49):
too good of a selection, Ineed to watch what I eat in the
amount, just because again I'm verysuperstitious and I need to make sure that
I am able to fly around whenI need to and not have any sort
of stomach issues and that's absolutely crucialthe time that I eat, and then
I also have this giant target bymy co host on two balls and a
mic and sending open the boiler withChiva, who refuses to believe that he's

(01:03:14):
not going to score on me.And for the past two years he said
the same things that he's going toscore, that he's going to score.
Last year, I handed him agolden opportunity to score, and he hit
the crossbar and then some you know, hullabaloo happened. The buzzer rang and
the bend the ball rolled in,did not count, didn't count, did

(01:03:36):
not never counted, never happened. It literally didn't happen because the buzzer sounded.
So nothing after that matters. Youcould the whole arena could explode.
It doesn't matter. I mean,I hope it doesn't, but I mean
if it did, at least youralleged would be secure. Yeah, exactly.
So this is gonna be my year. The Grand Old Arena is going
to close its stores with Sandy withSoccer's chapter and this is the final opportun

(01:04:00):
unity that not only Chieva will haveto score on me. Uh. But
it's gonna cement my legacy as undefeatedthree and zero in in. I mean,
look, that arena is so special. The Rock needed to go yesterday
and visit to get that San Diegosockers aura into him and just really,
you know, make a part ofhis mana. That's the only reason he

(01:04:25):
showed up in San Diego, justgiving you guys a heads up. But
as far as this goes, thisis a very you know, this is
my game. Like I don't playSunday leagues because I'm this is this body
is a temple, and this templeis only open once a year, and
these scores are flying open. I'veretired Shannon McMillan, I've retired Darren Smith.

(01:04:46):
I've retired countless other individuals. Darrenwas actually on my team, but
whatever, she's still retired. Stillretired him. And guess what, anybody
who opposes me this year and isready to all be retired, good luck,
because this is going to be theyear that I have my best performance.
I've only allowed one goal, andthat was to boost the confidence of

(01:05:08):
a couple of individuals coming out ofa terrible pandemic. They needed it more
than I needed it. I stillremember exactly how I went through my legs,
and I made sure that I willnever go ahead and suffer the embarrassment
of letting a goal in in theeight minutes of glory on that legendary,
precious sacred field. Okay, So, I don't know if even if I

(01:05:31):
said this to you, but I'vebeen so behind today. I don't know
if you even have the rosters toshow this, but would you'd like to
know who's going against you? Okay, trying to score? All right,
all right, Okay, I sentthis to you. I don't know if
you have it to put up otherwiseI'll just just everyone take notes. Okay,
Travis, I know you're out therelistening right now, punk Raft Paint

(01:05:55):
take notes. Opposing Tony on BetoPerez, led by the Captain Betto,
one of the nation's great you knowDJs and FM disc jockeys. Betto Perez
will have, of course your foil, the man that you hook up with

(01:06:17):
year after year, the immortal BJMcPherson, one of the great San Diego
goals of all time and a mediagame regular. BJ will be in net
against you once again. It's goingto try and score on you once again
with the throw. It probably won'tmake it, but nonetheless bj is in

(01:06:39):
net Betto is the captain. FrankieV returns Frankie's producer Chris Martinez, who
apparently plays soccer. Oh okay, says he plays soccer. Chris Martinez will
be there. He'll be number twentyfive. Put that on your scouting cheet
outing yep, twenty five. Ofcourse, the great Scott Lewis voice of

(01:07:01):
San Diego CEO coach Louka will bethere. He'll be wearing the number nine
from the Ben and Woods show,my teammates on ninety seven to three.
The fan Paul Rindel will be there. Big party is out there. Okay.
Of course against you is Chieva, because like when I put you on

(01:07:23):
the same team, what am Istupid? Of course you're going to be
on the opposite team. Yeah,he betrayed his nation last year and went
to the US to play against me, and guess you know, you know
Mexico. I had a couple ofextra couple of extra shimmis that night for
him, So all right, that'sfine, let him so. Chieva will
be there from beer night in SanDiego. Noah Scoville will be against you

(01:07:47):
from Axeo San Diego. Andy Keats, the Great Andy Keats is back.
He's gonna ask for a Seals lacrossestick. We're gonna deny him that.
We're gonna tell me gonna have toscore with his feet. I can't wait
to see Andy. And he's inthe chat. He is. He is
harassing you right now, he's trollingyou. David Ferker will be there the

(01:08:11):
Excel battle Firker and Sanchez, It'scoming. I welcome the camera on the
GoPro on, David. I welcomethat just again show a different angle of
what you will have the privilege ofwitnessing on this field. And again I'm
welcoming the bad juju because again Iam feeling it and yeah you are.

(01:08:36):
Yeah, I gotta love about you, Tony. I'm like the early moments
were much like desiree I just fellin love with you was when I just
saw that confidence, like you're aman who rises to the moment. You're
not someone who shrinks from the moment. You're a man who rises to the
occasion. And I appreciate that aboutyou. Absolutely throw me in the water
and I float. That's what happens. Like literally, so all the way

(01:08:57):
to the top. The cream alwaysrises to the top, and that cream
is delicious. Would you like toknow your teammates? All right? Who's
gonna who am I gonna serve togo ahead and go and score and have
the glory because I got a cannon, let me tell you. And I'm
huh, I'm ready to serve upsome assists here, all right? So
I could probably stop with one nameon this list. You met him two

(01:09:23):
games ago. Andres himI Mendez fromm a s L TV, formerly of
Utica City FC, and he isnow transferred to the University of Miami where
he's a midfielder. Oh with theHurricanes. Andres Himy Mendez is on your
team. We're in number nineteen.Feed him, got it? Got it?

(01:09:44):
That's a hat trick, three eightminutes hat trick. Yeah. Last
year Andres was a last second ringer, came in wearing his Air Jordan's and
sweats and scored a goal. SoI feel like I've already set you up
well because you're my friend. Andreasim Mendez is on your team. Also,

(01:10:05):
the great Amoor Villa Oh from theTeakwana Reporter Extraordinaire. A man who's
told me that he should have triedout for the soccers himself. iMore has
asked for, requested and received thenumber ten, so iMore will be on
the club. He is with you. Johnny Richardson from Everything San Diego will

(01:10:28):
be joining you. Eric Fowler, photographer extraordinaire, is joining you from KF
and B Channel eight. The greatJake Garyani ooh okay is on your team
from My Friends at ninety seven threethe Fan. My new producer Braden Soprnant

(01:10:49):
will be there, along with theproducer of Gwyn and Chris Matt Scraby.
Oh scrapes, Yes, Scraby ison your team. He's actually the reason
that I did any of this.Just a side note here is that I
saw the hard work that that individualput and really followed a dream and inspired
me to go ahead and even considerstarting any sort of two balls in the

(01:11:11):
mic. Now I'm here with you, Craig on a soccer's podcast and invited
to ridiculously flaunt my talents as agoalkeeper. And it's a lot to do
with that guy, So I'm reallyhappy to serve them up a couple of
assists, and to wrap things up, two of our dear friends from New
Media, from the Gwintelligence podcast, the One and Only h J. Preller,

(01:11:33):
and from The Kept Faith. NickMcCann will be on your team,
So it's Sanchez, Richardson, Fowler, Sopranat, garyani, Via, Jimi
Mendez, Preller, McCann, Scrabyfourteen, Tony And for Team Betto,
it's Beto Perez, BJ McPherson,Frankie V, Chris Martinez, Paul Rendel,

(01:11:55):
Scott Lewis Chieva, Noah Scoville,Andy Keats, David Ferker. What's
the Vegas line, what's the Calienteline? I don't know. I mean,
I can I can tell that there'sa clear favorite here, but anything
can happen. Anything can happen, and I can get you know, four
goals scored on I'm not gonna lie, Craig. I forgot this happened up

(01:12:18):
until right now. I had adream last night preparing for this reveal,
and it was over in Mexico andI was playing indoor soccer where I used
to. We're at the and havinga great time, and for some reason
I was in a team along withCessa Serda and the rest of the San
Diego soccers. Orris was unable obviously. However, we lost seven to one

(01:12:45):
and they were all my fault,so I know it was a nightmare.
Oh no, yeah, And Iwoke up upset and disappointed, and I
don't know, man, like thismight be the year this? This is
it? Like? Do I getscored on again? Does chiev a score
on? Is my undefeated gonna goout the window before the soccer's undefeated?

(01:13:06):
Though? I mean, I don't. There's a lot to consider here,
but it's gonna be a great time. Somebody that I notice isn't on here,
which I'm actually really happy, isn'ton my opposing team, as Combata
Boy Jeff, because as much asI have some sort of legend that man
in this game. So I justwant to let you know, thank you

(01:13:26):
for bringing that up. I intendedto, but I kind of forgot.
Cabana Boy Jeff called me. Ofcourse, he was my first invite.
He's always my first invite to thesoccers media game. The only man who
have ever scored a hat trick ina soccers media game now was he set
up by Salzezoh? Yes, hewas, nonetheless the only player to score
a hat trick in a soccers mediagame, and he personally called me.

(01:13:48):
He didn't text her email to letme know that that weekend his daughter has
us. I guess it's Vanderbilt. She's going to college in Nashville. There
might be another university in Nashville, but I think Vanderbilts the one, and
they are driving across the country withtheir daughter to get her set up in

(01:14:11):
Nashville. And so he called topersonally express his regrets that he couldn't be
at the match, because, ofcourse, Tony, I would have put
him on the other team because you'vegot Andres, so you know, I
wanted to have that guy. Nowwe're gonna count on someone else to be
that guy for the opposing team.So is that chieva? Is is this

(01:14:32):
Chief's time to shine? Is thischief is time to say put the ninety
nine up top in the nine spotand let ninety nine in nine. It's
gonna be a set, you know? Is it Coach Lou Is it Andy
Keats? Who is it out there? Is it Frankie v Is it Beto?
Who's got the boots to put itpast the big tea? That is
the question that will be answered onSunday night at the Grand Old arena.

(01:14:59):
So there. It is the mediagame reveal. The chat is very pro
tony on this. You know,I do want to give flowers to the
other team. Maybe I'll root forthem, I don't know, yeah,
yeah, just for fun, likemaybe I'll look for the other team.
But either way, the game willbe on. We'll carry it on our
halftime match, you know, onour halftime show. As opposed to our

(01:15:20):
great interview with Duboi or other qualitycontent that the MASL could provide. We'll
go ahead and put our own sshow out there, and it's gonna be
an m show, a media show, and it's gonna be incredibly, incredibly
fun. So that is coming up. That is the media game reveal.
That is the big news. ECMoney says, Frankie V better score or

(01:15:43):
he's gonna stop listening to him inwhich market? EC Money, Frankiev's on
in like twelve markets around the country. Are you gonna stop listening in San
Diego? That's fine. He's gotlisteners in Atlanta, Seattle, Nashville,
anywhere else, so I think he'sfine. Okay. A couple other things.
Bud Light Knights are coming to theSan Diego Soccers home matches. We're

(01:16:08):
going to have four bud light nightscoming up in upcoming weeks. Very excited
for this. The first one isJanuary twenty seventh, when the Soccers take
on the Saint Louis Ambush. Butthose are going to be three dollars bud
light Saturday nights, not just alwaysSaturday nights. Pardon me, three dollars

(01:16:29):
bud light nights. Great stuff.I've got the full list here. Hang
on, buddy, give it toyou in five for three to one January
twenty seventh against Sint Louis. Februaryfifteenth against the Texas Outlaws San Diego Sports

(01:16:53):
Night. There it is there,it is brother March first, that is
March first against Empire and the finalhome match at Patchogo Arena ever March thirtieth
against the Tacoma Stars. Three dollarbud light nights. What else can I
say? Three dollars bud light nights. Let's get it happening. Yeah no,

(01:17:16):
you really can't beat that. It'sone of the perks of Sports Arena
has always been in the Pachango Arena, it's a great time to get out
there, whether it's the goals, whether it's anything that's going on. Three
dollars. Bud night lights is alwaysa great time. Drink responsibly, but
that's something that is very much afun time out. And you know,
knock back a couple of buds andbe amongst buds. You're gonna have a

(01:17:38):
great time. Absolutely, or itjust is a non alternative. Get an
uber or a lyft and drink irresponsiblybecause as long as you drive responsibly and
get home safely, I don't carewhat you do, take advantage of,
create a beer pyramid, do anythingyou want bud light nights. And yes,
Kelsey, I know you're gonna bethere, I think for the first

(01:18:00):
so I can't wait to see youonce again. It's great to have you
coming back out. And yes,Califino Tequila provides ten dollars Margarita's for every
home game, so you know,if you want to go you know,
slightly classier route, you can drinktwo margarita's or you can drink seven bud
lights. It's you'll pretty much getto the same spot. One will be

(01:18:21):
faster. One I'll have different resultsin the morning. Maybe not. Maybe
people are have have been in toleranceas to some than others. It's fine,
there's something for everybody at these SanDiego soccer matches. There truly is
there. It is the Califina Tequila, Califino Tequila Margarita special ten dollars at

(01:18:43):
the Concourse Bar. Only at theConcourse Bar. Don't go asking somewhere else.
Don't go digging down to the StellaLounge. They're gonna laugh at you.
Go to the Concourse Bar. CalifinoTequila ten dollars, Margarita specials every
single home game. Okay, footsall match in an I know you put
that up earlier, but just areminder, there's only a literal total of

(01:19:04):
seventy five tickets for this match. So if you want to go see,
if you're gonna if you are anOrange County person, if you're an LA
County person, or if you're consideringgoing up to the United Soccer Coaches Convention,
uh, you can get a ticketfor the Soccers Strikers match Footsol Exhibition

(01:19:25):
match. A great way to doit is go to st soccers dot com.
That's where you just pulled that linkright or you so you can go
to st soccers dot com buy ticketsthere, you can call eight sixty six
seven nine nine goal. You canbuy tickets there. Buy it from us.
Uh, you know, help usout. Buy it from us.
If you are planning to go.Don't buy it at the convention Center from

(01:19:46):
the Strikers. Buy it from US. Uh. But you can do that,
and I'm sure we're going to getthose seventy five tickets sold. Oh.
I love what Calenes Road. He'sremembered. He member remember the day
when the Ontario Fury were the AnaheimBolts, and the two years they played
at the Anaheim Convention Center. Andthat second year they had no glass around

(01:20:11):
the net, and so the bulkcould just skip over the wall behind the
net. And the very first goalthe soccer scored two minutes into the game,
Anthony Medina was crashing the net andhe scored and he kind of ran
into the goal and the carpet underneaththe goal slid under him and he surfed.
Thank god, both of his feetwere rooted, because he surfed on

(01:20:33):
the carpet for like six or eightinches. And I was like, and
then I got in trouble because Ispent the entire second half talking about how
someone was going to get hurt outhere. And it's a big mistake and
a nightmare. I'll never forget thatman, that match. I remember being
there and going like, this isthe low point of the PASL. It

(01:20:53):
is what I was thinking. Ihad been to Turlock, all right.
I had been right next to theTyson Chicken demolition factory there the slaughterhouse in
Turlock, and I was an Anaheim, going this is the nay dear of
the PASL. This is the lowpoint, and we can only go up

(01:21:14):
from here. I imagine it'll beway better at the convention Center on the
eleventh and I'll be there by theway. I'm gonna be doing my radio
show and then immediately treking up thefifteen and I believe me and Philly are
going to be on a live broadcaston Twitch for that Futsal Cup. And
trust me, man, if theywin, and he's like, Craiger,

(01:21:38):
give me the news, I'm gonnabe like, yeah, you guys scored.
Enjoy it. Do you have adoctorate in something? There's something you
would consider to have a doctorate in, even if it's not from an academic
thing, Like what would you bea doctor of? That's a great question.

(01:22:00):
Doctor of destructive commentary? I don'tknow. Try to figure that one
out. Good times, good times. So we've had media game, we've
had bud Light nights, we've gotfoots on match in Anaheim. Last thing
is January fourteenth, Soccer's Chihuahua Savagefive oh five pm. One of the

(01:22:24):
biggest matches of the year. Butbring your kids out prior to the match
because we've got a soccer's skills clinictaking place on the floor at Pachang Arena
from two thirty to three thirty pm. It is a special ticket for this,
but you will have the opportunity tohave your kids down on the field.
I believe it's ages five to fourteen. Sd soccers dot com slash clinic

(01:22:45):
for more information and if you signup for this and take part in the
clinic, you also get the opportunityto be a part of the parade of
Champions that night, be down onthe floor for pre match introductions, for
the player introductions, for the hypevideo and everything else. It's also Kick
Cancer Night on January fourteenth. Therewill be a soccer's belt bag giveaway or

(01:23:11):
some people call that a man purseor a merse, so Soccer's merse giveaway.
On January fourteenth, Kick Cancer Knight, tons of cancer charities out on
the concourse, opportunity to learn, educate, support that will be taking place
as well. So it's a hugenight. And above everything else, it's
the Savage man, it's soccer's Chihuahua. It's the first chance to get some

(01:23:33):
revenge on the Savage at home literallyif Monterey beats them twice this weekend and
then we beat them on the fourteenth, like wrap it up, you know,
wrap up the West for San Diegofor home field at least, if
nothing else. So you know, this is a huge weekend for Chihuahua.
Chihuahua needs to get minimum three pointsout of this weekend because they got zero

(01:23:59):
against Monterey last time around. Youbuck a four game losing streak, you're
not gonna win the West. Sobig, big, big weekend for chihuaba
this weekend. But that's for Savageovertime here on Soccer's overtime, just saying
skills clinic and then a gigantic match. Bring all the supporters. We want

(01:24:20):
to see maximum brujosts, maximum locals, maximum riptide, maximum everything. That's
the night to get loud, that'sthe night to get crazy. That's the
night that will define this season atthe almost midway point is Soccers and Savage,
So that's coming up. But thisweekend Soccer's and Outlaws. Also a

(01:24:41):
huge game. Also a game whereif somehow Texas came in and won the
whole league, would probably you know, like all those ratings dudes, Tony
would probably like rate them over us, and you know in the in the
rankings, you know, move thingsaround and Phil Avonko will be like,
oh, maybe it's Texas instead, like, no, it's either way.
But it's a big match, it'sexciting, it's gonna be fun. I

(01:25:03):
can't wait to see Mendez or Ties, Morales, Dontas Oozy Oil. There's
there's players, there's players on thatTexas team. They're a good team,
they are a team on the rise. So huge one this Sunday. Get
your tickets a sd soccers dot Comeight six six seven nine nine goal if

(01:25:24):
you come day of game Arena boxoffice. Absolutely, but very important Tony,
not to give them a breath ofof like, hey, maybe we've
got a chance in this, maybethey're not as good as we think.
It's important to set the tone.Yeah, absolutely, and it's definitely something
a goal that this team, theSan Diego Soccers has and and a resolution

(01:25:46):
almost to go into this new yearis to be that dominant team once again
because there is some competition, evenif it's for the supporter shield, which
is never a gimme, but youknow now it's it's a turning up the
heat with some great teams across theleague. Just to wrap up things real
quick, our Tibbets in the chatasked, has there been any public posts
showing the progress on front Wave Arena. I invite you to follow Front Wave

(01:26:10):
Arena on Instagram, on x onFacebook. They the arena now has dedicated
social media. They have somebody whois employed to do that, that's not
me, uh, And they areputting up regular posts. I saw something
in in late December, and youcan see regular updates at front Wave Arena

(01:26:31):
on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, social media, so on and so forth.
Marlicia asks tickets and Malicia, youknow how to get a hold of
me. You need tickets for riptides. You know, you know what's what?
You know what's what? Don't worry, don't worry about it, don't
worry about it, don't forget aboutit. Yeah, I mean no,

(01:26:54):
remember especially to invite everybody, butyeah, don't worry about it. And
that brings an end to this episodeof Soccers over time. We're hitting that
neat ninety minute mark. Big thanksto to Boyd Morgan. Absolutely love talking
to this anytime that we could. Thanks to yourself, Tony as always for

(01:27:14):
the outstanding program. And where caneveryone follow? What the most important te
podcast that is not about the soccers, but it's sometimes about the soccers in
San Diego, California. Uh,you can go ahead and find everything that
we are doing in soccer in SanDiego over at San Diego Punto Football,
