But we have another game, another opportunity and from Sudboch
and Brazlian player are coming up too.

let us know about his summer of professional tournament play,

year indoors, third year in San Diego. What did he
think about the game. What did he think about this

more than just the goals and the big saves. Soccer's
lost the opener last year too, sure did same score.
By the way, didn't get a point that night. They
got no points that night, and that wound up meaning
a lot at the end of the year with the
way Chihuabo ran out, and it meant that the final

(07:50):
was contested at the end in Mexico and the Soccers
fell in Mexico to Chihuahua. So not to say that
this result, oh no, the season's over, it's not. I
could also think of a season when the Soccers went
twenty three to Zho to one. It happened this decade.
I'm wearing the jersey from that season twenty one to

twenty two. And overtime loss isn't going to kill you.
You know, you get a result out of it, you
get a point. It's less than you wanted, but you're
on the board with a point. You know, Empire leaves
with two points, so it's not like they completely you know,
ran away and they're two or three points ahead of you. Now,
so hey, it's a poor game. And I think the

biggest thing that was kind of a thud for soccers
fans is last year, you know, fifteen to oh regular
season in playoff.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
But I always strive to.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Remember that the first match last year was also a
lot like what we saw, to be perfectly honest, on Friday,
Tony and that night fortune favored them.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
But this night it did not.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Yeah, And I mean, however way you want to see
it too.

Speaker 9 (09:01):
Credit to Empire strikers or what they were able to
bring on this opening matchup, and they were prepared, they
were ready. But for the Soccers, like you mentioned, it
was something that we've seen before, and that's kind of
where you know, where you hope you would learn from
past mistakes and learn from grow from those. We're here
at another beginning of the season, just kind of like that,
Russ just keeps looking heavier and heavier, and as time

(09:24):
goes on, it's not going to get any lighter. So
is this something that is just from here on out
Soccers game one? Like, whoever wants to beat the soccers
and get that done and get some records broken, just
face them in the first game, no problem, let's go
ahead and do that. So credit once again to Empire
and what they were able to do. But still on
the back end, this was a very winnable game, even

(09:45):
by poor playing standards that I know the team and
some of the players would hold hold themselves to a
higher standard, and I would agree if they all said that, yeah,
we could have played a little bit better collectively on
this last last game, in the first game, so it
was it was tough. It was really tough to to
kind of sit there and and and not praise again Empire,

(10:08):
and then on the other side, you're just like, they're
not being very soccer ish soccer ish soccer's ish soccerrific.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah, not enough soccerrific.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Over the course of Black Friday, a game they absolutely
could have won, and I've I've gone back and watched
the entire game film, uh, you know, every minute of it,
and they could have won. There's a couple of chances
that we might see in this highlight reel that that
went wanting, even in the last minute or.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
So of play.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
The final play was a thing of absolute beauty. I
mean honestly perfect execution, brilliant design, flawless from from front
to back. How how Empire built their overtime goals. So
there's really no shame in that you lost to an

(11:00):
incredible play. You lost to the kind of play that's
the stuff a legend. They should put that on a poster,
you know, a Lami's header and a Rosco's run, like
those things were incredible. But there's plenty to clean up
for San Diego, plenty to clean up, And let's go
ahead and roll the highlights and see what we saw.

(11:20):
Incredible crowd, we'll talk more about it later, but just
a great, great crowd of almost four thousand over thirty
nine hundred from Wave Arena, a great start for the team.
Here's Nick Perreira's first contribution. Just settles this down and
sends it out and then Gonton little dummy Costa. We'll

talk to him about it on this the one two
lovely finish, very calm finish by the veteran Keiko Gontan
and one nothing and everything is looking so great.

In minute number two, Tony, Yeah, and.

This is where I'm kind of looking forward to. Okay,
we're gonna see more Keko.

Speaker 9 (11:56):
We're gonna see some of these plays, some of these
one two just runs and really a next level for
his development. And bost I love seeing the way that
he plays, and everything just seemed so great. And not
to say the Empire wasn't gonna come with the offense,
because we know they have the capability to be offensive.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
Boris Parter was so good in this game. He played
the first half Chris to the second half. He was peppered.
As you can see, this is a three save sequence
over the course of a minute, and then coming out
of the free kick out of that another one handed
stop for Boris, who made nine saves in the first half,
a lot of those in the first quarter. And then

(12:34):
right after that good play, unfortunately Monier Alami well timed.
Cardonists only had one thought there, which was a pass
back to Boris, and Alami essentially intercepts it and walks
straight in and the two guys say, it's cool, we'll
get it back later.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
But that's a one to one for Empire.

Speaker 9 (12:51):
Yeah, a good good credit, high pressure that offense. Those
young legs up there. Alami, one of the best young
players the league has to offer, doing what he's taught
to do, be a poacher, and that means be the
first defender doing what he needs to do in a
solo goal. Great effort, but I know, uh, cardin Is
gonna want that one back for sure.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Well, if you positive for just a second, Wow, what
another save by Parto. Just the point to be made
on that, if you go back and look at it,
is that everyone else is run on this play on
one nothing, so everyone else is gone. And when Pardo
throws it to the corner to cardin Is, Cardiness only
has one, literally one option. If he doesn't shoot it

(13:31):
up the boards, he can only play Boris Pardo. In
that play, your watch as it goes through. First, Borus
makes the really nice save. Now everyone's gone. They're hoping
for a quick sprint out throw, but the play isn't
there Empires with all their men marking.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
So now what right there? What play does Mitchell have?

Speaker 4 (13:55):
Right?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, he's got Drew.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
You can see Drew on the front wave credit Union. Look, go,
that might have been an option. A Lombi has already
jumped the table there because it was way too slow
to get out of the corner.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
That was the issue.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
And when you're put into that spot, now it's one
v one right there.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
If the ball doesn't go immediately back.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
To Pardo, it's a chance for what happened, So not
to we're not picking on Mitchell, but that's just that's
how that play developed.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
You go, why did that happen?

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Because of the fact that everyone else ran down the field,
there was only one option other than a blind throw, right,
he made a controlled play and then it didn't go
fast enough and boom, Empire was a step faster.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
They were on it.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
They were a step faster, and that was a theme
over the course of sixty one and a half minutes
of this game will continue to see that pressure. As
the first quarter went on, I think we really noted
just how dominant this was. Here's a Lammie again on
the move and another saved by Boris part of just

(15:03):
keeping the team alive in the game. Could have been
two or three goals conceded. Here's a very dangerous situation,
and of course the goal results at the end, but
there was a foul instead, or there would have been
a goal fall instead. Look where the ball is. Here's
Marco Fabian, that power man.

Speaker 9 (15:24):
That's I mean, that's just incredible world class strength on
the right leg from micro Fabian, and it's difficult to
stop that just head on, like if you've been in
front Waverna. That's not a long distance at all. No,
I mean from the top of the arc.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
Borus makes that same yeah, because it's so point blank
and really he hit it pretty quick. The wall almost
seemed to screen him so late in the quarter, crossbar
and down, really difficult spot.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Could have been to two game of inches. Early second quarter.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
Now San Diego with the nice chance to move, shot
a little bit too high on that one, but you're
starting to get your feet underneath you. Of course, Taylor
Bond down there gives it away. Here's faby On again
and another great save by Pardo, this one diving to
his left, Bondo getting taken down along the wall. But
here's the save of this steal by Pacheco. This leads

(16:19):
to goal number two, bebe off the wall, Bondo has
enough time to truly line it up like a field
goal kicker and drive it through the bottom of the
net for two to at two twenty of the second quarter.
A good feel right there that the soccers could get
the match back on their foot.

Speaker 9 (16:36):
Yeah, Like it seemed like up until this moment they
were trying to find their footing and get a real
grasp on this game and find that soccer's momentum, control
the tempo, and they really were uncomfortable up until that moment.
And even then you kind of say, okay, well it's
Taylor Bond who's creating the offense. Okay, well let's see
some of this these offensive pieces come together and maybe

(16:57):
they can get themselves a goal. You know, great effort
by Bond, but you know, now Empire once again coming
back and responding.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Yeah, both of the plays you see on that highlight
realer just Empire executing to perfection. First you had a
Roscoe running across three lines and getting a shot away
that made it off the goalboards and just missed. And
then you get that tiki taka goal which was incredible.
Now you know our Rosco again, here's where it should
go wrong. This has got to be a goal. Like basically,
when you play them, if they're going to be on,

(17:28):
that's gotta be a goal or else you've got a
good chance of losing the result. You have to take
those chances when they come against the empty net scenario.
More great play by Boris that absolutely could have should
have been four to two. Empire open shot Fobby On,
high power, top of the arc, on target. Great great save,

(17:50):
world class save. Again that was hit so hard by
Bobby On and Boris. You know perries it to the right.
Both goalkeepers playing well and actually each of the two
goalkeepers for Empire played well in this match too. This
is truly a Boris part of highlight reel. Yeah, this

(18:12):
first half just everyone almost and then there's the kick
out by Robert Palmer who had four blocks and was
his normal obnoxiously good self right post for cardinis On
that try could have Ben, here we go again with
a Roscoe down the floor and losing it.

Speaker 10 (18:31):
And yeah, come on, get it in like yeah, if
you're going to get that far down you almost have
to keep going.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
I mean easy for us to say from here, but
you know, now, look what you get. You get the
counter the other way and Chris having to come out
make a brave play and take a big hit as
a result. Here this should have in my no, come on,
would anyone ever doubt that that's a handball on Robert,
that's a handbuff ball is.

Speaker 9 (19:04):
In a position to get scored, in a dangerous spot,
and it strikes the arm that is extended, not in
a natural position. You know, you can tell there's a
little nudge, so that has to be called a handball.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
If not, that's why we have what we're seeing slow
mo video review.

Well, the officials, who I thought a really good night
did not ask for this review, and certainly Empire wasn't
going to ask for it. There's the resulting play a
little bit later. That's Craig's best chance. Great save by
our Rosco on that one. Empire used the super power

play multiple times in this match. Both times what they
had a power play, Mendes tries to break it right there,
he misses just a little bit wide. Again, those are
the moments for San Diego that you can look back on.
This film is bond if you really take a look
at this back Tony watching Rosco, he's blaming the turf.

Hmmm.

He thinks he he wants to get that right leg
out there, and he's like, I look, my cleat stuck,
got stuck in there in the end.

It's it's It's the same for Boris on the other side,
and he seemed to be doing well on that side
in the first quarter. So, I mean, I guess an
outdoor game. He called that the Gophers gotcha, But it's
a it's a floor.

Yeah, I don't know.

I think he was completely on the on his left foot. Yeah,
I think it's what was on his left foot. So
he has to be a roquette to be able to
do that. Now, three three in the fourth another chance
for Childs. Soccers didn't score on any of their free
kick opportunities in the match. Certainly a couple of them
were quite good. There's another one that absolutely could be

four three. I mean, look at these great chances that
the club's getting great saves. That was Brandon Gomez who
played limited time but comes up with this huge save.

Speaker 9 (21:07):
Yeah, just one, just one having gone in would have
changed its entire matchup and didn't require to go to overtime.

Coaster right there after drilling drew.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Then Sebastian and Charlie get together on the steal and
Charlie makes the great goal and four to three San
Diego with six' one nine left on the. CLOCK i
should have noted that at the time you would have
thought it was a positive moment For San diego into
this soccer weekend as this is certainly the highlight of the.

Match great double team steel here by seb And. Charlie
they get it.

Speaker 9 (21:42):
Started, yeah and it's again this Vintage San diego soccer's,
dispossession not don't even let them get out of their
own third and just. Clinical that's the. Thing they were
clinical in the times that they did. Score it's the
times that they missed that unfortunately it was it was pretty.

Know the more you look at, this you have to
just say it's a complete screen On chris to that
leaves him kind of helpless to the situation As empire
gets this.

midfield for that. Play and it's such a difficult thing
to deal, with this sudden entrance of a sixth attacker
into these individual. Plays but as you can, see guys
falling the screen right in front of, him leads you to.

Overtime this was, clinical Like San diego basically never had the.
Ball they had already faked one run to A roscoe
and then they went back triangled and he got deeper
and even more, open and Then alami hits a flying.

Header, yeah it's a good.

Asso like there's almost nothing anybody could have done after that.
Shot maybe a little bit more pressure before the, shot you, know,
somebody it's a great. Play it's a great play that
deserves to be a game winning goal that takes down
a great goalkeeper Like Chris toath like you would you
would assume that's what it took to Beat Chris. Toath
and it's a fantastic, play a fantastic moment there For

empire to be completely, honest and the thing that just
keeps standing out through this highlight.

REEL i, mean as you see, that it's just it's
a crazy. Play it's absolutely crazy. Play almost impossible to
think that you'd be able to get your head on
this ball from the way that A lami is coming
in on.

It and look he.

Kind of bends, to you, know, right almost bends down
to get. There, YEAH i Think chris can. Do look
at look at that by by an what a millimeter
nothing of a lamb's. Hair the difference Between chris getting
a touch on this, Right.

Yeah and you have to be ready for it as
a as a as an. Offensive that's where you need to.

with the, shoulder with your head and whatever it, is
you need to make sure you're prepared for.

That can't help it say that though that it was
a zigzag down the field before this shot and this.
Finish so anyone who always looks and, goes, okay well
you know what happened to the. Defense now look what
happened to the back end of the. Defense you, Know
Briana ruscoe was able to run down the field and

get where he wanted to get pretty much all but
two times in this, match and the two times that he,
didn't and that's out of like a dozen or maybe.
Fourteen it's up to the coaches to break it down
to that. Level but out of however many times he
made it down the, field twice he got dispossessed in

both times San diego just missed on the other side
right one, time close missed the other, time played it, slow, slow,
slow and Then Charlie shott got cleared By, palmer who
was able to get back and do the header. Block
so you, know those are the moments you've got to
break down that zero goalie, system because the zero goalie

system is breaking down the soccers. Defense you, know it's
adding an extra, player it's adding a layer of. Confusion
they have no compunction about pulling the keeper all together
and going six attackers and if they had a slightly
more you, Know Robert palmer is the best defensive defender
right now in the, game but you don't think of

him as a huge offensive. Creator he's had his clutch.
Moments he had his gold in the. Finals i'm not
gonna you, Know i'm not trying to not give him his,
flowers But i'm just, saying if you had A sosa style,
distributor you, know thinking of a Classic John sosa like
if you you, know name your guy A.

Charlie, sorry used to have Him. Fury but their power
play would be so so.

Much more, potent, yeah than what they've got right now
if they had a one true playmate on the ball
that they could bring in as that sixth.

got so much.

Hustle they've got a great game, plan as you said
beautifully in the in the goal, CALL bossi two point.
ZERO i, mean what a debut for, it coming in
and out of things not being. PREDICTABLE i thought it
was a brilliantly coached game By empire and really left
the soccers with a lot to think about because they
were a step slow most of the match And empire

(26:29):
had just the overall speed edge in the. Game and
that's not denying any of the talent of the. PLAYERS
i think the guys all played. Hard WHEN i watched
the film, back you could you, know coaches will break,
down this guy could have been here instead of, there
but boo. Boop BUT i, mean When i'm looking at
the overall effort, level the soccers were playing. Hard they
just like there's the water was shut off for the. Forwards,

(26:50):
yeah you, know there was never really a moment where
you felt Like nick was controlling the. Game craig is
in for set. Pieces if he doesn't score on, him
then there's not much to. Say where's the contribution it's.
Coming in a coaching, Side Ta.

Void didn't really impact the offense very.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
Much he had one pass that could have been the
game winning assist late in the fourth, quarter And saysar
sort of missed a half open net before a time,
out like in the fifty eighth, minute fifty ninth, minute
so that could have been a great.

Moment you need a lot.

More you need just a lot.

More it's just the honest truth From tavoi and from
all the forwards from that forward. Group you've got so
much talent and production and historical production in that. Group
you just got to get output from. It and that
doesn't mean it's all on. Them it's on the guys
to get the ball in the right places with the

time to, operate and it's on the forwards when they're
not in a scoring situation to get it back to
those incredibly talented midfielders Like charlie And gabby and more And, kko.
Etc who can create goals you, know and keep the
ball moving team, teamway AND i just thought that there
was a lot more connection Through empire And match.

One, yeah and, again the pedigree Of coach of The
years is something THAT i you, know any coach of
the anything or player of the anything of the year
deserves to have that talent showcase And Nolah bossi did exactly.

That AND i was really impressed what he was able to.

Do and it wasn't something revolutionary on top of what
he was already trying to. Do he just did very,
incremental just slight adjustments because let's not forget The soccers
are the one team that have faced this style more
