broadcast in them all.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
What's going on, Tony? How are you? I'm doing all right?

Speaker 6 (03:04):
A little kind of you know, bottled up with excitement
for San Diego's first win in the MASL.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
So you know, we got that to look forward to.
But it's gonna happen away. We'll talk about it here night. Yeah,
no time to rest. Friday night.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
San Diego is at Empire where they're expecting a crowd
of around six thousand, and they're expecting to walk the
Soccers around and deal them a third loss.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
To start the season.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
It is time to circle the wagons, but it is
time to keep calm and carry on. And that's what
we shall do with Season eight, episode five of Soccers
Overtime titled Low Tide.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
The wave is already crashed over us. Now it's receded.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
We can see the glistening sand, we can see the rocks,
we can see the path in front of us, including
the obstacles. Can the Soccers rise their tide and start
to roll? We'll find out starting on Friday. Here's what
we got planned for you on the show tonight, Oh
two no barbecue. Soccers have to regroup quickly after a

(04:15):
disappointing loss. On Sunday, We're gonna go through the highlights
and bring them to you and give you our thoughts
with you know, a good solid forty eight plus, you know,
sixty hours of reflection. We'll do that then coming up
at the bottom of the hour, about twenty five minutes
from now, Assistant coach Rene Ortiz rejoins the show. Try
to get somebody on the coaching staff for veteran leadership

(04:37):
on when the team's lost two in a row, so
he'll take on our tough questions about what's gone wrong
and what needs to improve going forward for San Diego.
In m ASL News, we'll take a look at what
happened during weekend two of the league. Kansas City drops
four points on the road. Baltimore succeeds on the field
at least. I think if you were there, it was

(05:00):
a successful day. If you watched it, not as much.
Tacoma is ready to get their season started this weekend
and in Soccer's News last night a Soccer's season ticket
member event and open practice where afterwards Craig Chiles, I mean,
it's not making news if you've already said it on
your own Instagram.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
This show every week's game notes and.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Everything else, but making it official just in case he
thought he was changing his mind. Now he'd have to
contravene all the graphics if he did. Craig Child's retiring
at the end of the year. We'll talk about that.
We'll set the stage for Friday's game. All that to
come on Soccer's Overtime, Season eight, Episode five. We're so
thankful to have our live audience here with us. Thank
you very much for being a part of this show

(05:48):
and for finding the show and staying with us. We
are a co production of the San Diego Soccers and
San Diego Punto Football, who gives us this platform upon
which we can chat.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
We're so thankful for that.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
Bobby Cressey plays our theme song, Beyond the South Bay,
available on his Cali native record.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Find it in your app, find it in.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Your Spotify, your Apple podcasts, your Apple Music, your whatever.
Find it, download it, find it on SoundCloud, download it
on SoundCloud.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
And give Bobby the money instead of Spotify or Apple.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Do that.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Thanks to everybody for being here. If you can rate
if the show, if.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
You're watching on YouTube, you can hit that thumbs up
button right away. That is super good for the show.
It'll maybe even help find a few more Sonockers fans
to come on over. For the folks who do listen
to us on audio, and we're glad to be back
on audio, thanks for being there. If you could throw
a little five star reviewer written review that might help
some folks find us once again on the audio side,

(06:48):
because for the last couple of seasons, this sort of
transition to just a video show.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
We're back on both sides.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
So wherever you find us, however you find us, whenever
you find us, thanks for being here.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Okay, tone, how are you feeling. I'm feeling all right.

Speaker 6 (07:03):
And uh, you know, I think you mentioned it right, like,
you know, just some time for reflection on, some time
to heal from what's what's happened. And I do like
the accountability factor of having a senior leadership coming up,
and uh, you know it is oh and two and
a lot of clubs wouldn't be necessarily panicking, not saying
that anybody's panicking in this organization at all whatsoever, but

(07:25):
for the standards of the soccers and oh and two,
you know, jump off the gate, maybe a false start,
just something to check. But you know, long season for
every team involved, including the San Dieo Soccers.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
It is the fifth time in franchise history that the
Soccers have started a season zero to two, and the
second time that they have done it at home. The
last time was twenty thirteen to fourteen, the last year
of the Professional Arena Soccer League the PASL. When the
soccer is law to Las Vegas and Monterey back to

(08:03):
back to start the season.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Las Vegas at that time was the.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Rival of the Soccers and had players like Felipe Gonzalez
and Seesarserta at a very young age. On that team,
Monterey was Monterey. They had kind of all the same
guys they had ten years later, just ten years younger,
and that team started Owen two rallied to make the playoffs,
lost to Las Vegas in the playoffs. The previous three

(08:31):
times were all in the glory years of the Soccers
nineteen ninety one, ninety two, nineteen ninety ninety one, and
all the way back to nineteen eighty one eighty two,
the first Soccers Championship, the very first Soccers Championship. That
year in an eighteen game schedule, they started on to
four not ohen two rallied to make the playoffs and

(08:55):
then eventually beat Tattoo and beat Tampa Bay Rowdies for
the first ever Soccers indoor championship. That's when you could
certainly win a bar bet on even with most Soccers
fans not named Eddie Trejuel, you could probably win that
bar bet. Nineteen ninety ninety one, nineteen ninety one, ninety two,
they won the MSL championship both those times. So three

(09:17):
of the previous four times they started OH to two
they won the championship. The fourth time they made the
playoffs and lost to the team that had beaten them
to start the year. So maybe it was a message
that was sent uh in that particular season. And now
we've got this season and OH one two isn't promised
Tony to stop Empires waiting at home with a huge

(09:39):
crowd and a young team that just beat San Diego
a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
They're ready to roll and try and make it owen three.

Speaker 6 (09:48):
And you really gave them a chance to come up
and be inspired right by having a performance away like that.
Now you have six k plus in attendance for you
and it's your your and to once again build on
what's been happening in Empire, and you get to do
it against sandyg Was Soccers. That's you know, anybody would
want to go ahead and do that in the league,

(10:10):
and you know that soccers have to be careful because
every other team that they're gonna face from here on
out has footage on them, and the footage isn't necessarily
the nicest, but also they also have a playbook on
how to play against the San Diego was Soccers. So
the one team that's seen them already in this and
now in this third game are Empire Striker. So it's
gonna have to be an incredibly focused game for the Soccers,

(10:33):
and really, I want to see something else from them
this season.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
Last little stat note then hopefully invites not panic but
instant perspective. This year's start is better than last year's start, right,
because the Soccers won their second game last year. They
lost their second game this year. So last year they
were one and one. This year there oh one and one.

(11:03):
Last year they had two points after two games. This
year they have one point after two games. So yeah,
it's a bad start, but it's practically identical to last year.
If Shane Butler makes the right call in game two,
we are oh one and one and in the exact

(11:24):
same spot that we are right now. So I say
that not to say like, oh, look at that the
Soccers are starting two years off bad in a row.
It's to say that where did they finish last year?
Twenty and four? So you can rebound, and as the
Soccers have done so many times, Tony, you could go
on a roll a tear, and given the fact that

(11:46):
everybody plays everybody, and everybody plays everybody multiple times, there's
more than enough time to reshape the table.

Speaker 6 (11:54):
Yeah, and it gives a chance to see some of
these veteran players who have been here for a while,
who have learned the soccer way, who have been with
the soccers, just to really get things going.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
And it's it's a well oiled machine, but you.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
Gotta start it, and you know, sometimes you just gotta
go ahead and get those sea legs underneath underneath you.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
But again, I just don't want to be sitting here
at the end of the.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
Season like we did last year and say, remember that
first Tacoma game, Remember how important those points were. That's
my only point of concern where these matches, as it
is being pointed out in the chat as well, it
is like these matches are important because there's only eight
teams in the league. Margins are a little thinner, and
so now that you're having these victories that you're just like, okay, well,
eventually the soccers will get there and they'll finish in

(12:37):
the championship game or just you know, these are the
margins in which they're playing with and I just don't
want to have any regrets for the team, and I
really hope that the players are able to respond in
that way.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
So we'll hear a little bit from from a sistant
coach Rene or Tisa on that one.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
But first let's get to the highlights from Sunday afternoon.
And as we roll this in, we say thanks once
again to Eddie Truhillo for putting together the package. And
right away Boris Pardo tested in the very first minute
having to make a save. There's another one three minutes
in the theme of this reel is going to be

(13:16):
soccer's defense, but not right here.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
This is wave get caught.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Everyone's in deep for a set piece and two guys
jump off the bench on a quick transition and there
they go, Charlie and Mendez two v zero and if
you don't finish this, you're really in trouble.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
They finished it.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
It's one nothing, one nothing, San Diego. But missed on
the robot camera there. They didn't show it. But as
Mario Alvarez passes Ian Alex Steinwasher Steinwasher does a little
shoulder fake here you can and he scoops the ball
to his left.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
And he just beats the rookie rokenaport down the wall.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
It's one v zero here, you get a little bit
better look at it still from very far away, but
kind of pushes off a little bit too, nonetheless creates
that separation. Beats Boris one to one.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
The score.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Sebastian Mendez, hang on, back that up two seconds there.
This is this is the type of thing that's going
wrong for San Diego right now. Mendes in this position
right here has beaten two players. Now they come around him. Watch,
he's going to beat them again.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Freeze it. Where's Craig Childs ready to tap that ball in?
That's what I see.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
That's an automatic goal if you pass it to thirty seven.
What's in between Sebastian and the goal?

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Two guys?

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Yep, he puts it into that. He shoots it wide
because there's no angle at the net. And what's Craig doing?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Still open? Still open? Two hands up? What the heck
are you doing? Yep?

Speaker 4 (14:58):
That's a gigantic missed opportunity for San Diego to take
a very calm to one lead and get a forward
engaged in the game. Instead, it's a little piece of
hero ball, and it turns into nothing. Here Drew's gonna
take a rip and he gets a little lucky break,
a little grays off of Max Ludwig. There, partial screen,
partial deflection. I definitely saw the ball move in real

(15:19):
time and as a result, it's to see though every
time I watch this replay, like where does he get
I think he gets it with his toe and it's
two to one looking okay, wide old chance for San Diego,
wide open chance missed. Boris Partos still playing well, off

(15:43):
to a great start to this season on shots, stopping
Milwaukee peppering the frame. But now we get to the
second period again Boris great shot stopping on an open shot,
but here Max Ludwig gets it loose to Flores. Two
defenders around him, two good defenders. But a little bit

(16:05):
late to that play was Charlie on the deflection. On
the opportunity for an intervention, and instead it becomes kind
of a mini two v one on cardiness as a result,
and there's the goal short side.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
There's two to two.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
Now down in the corner, other point blank save. We're
gonna fight for the ball. Can they get it out
of this corner?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Okay? Foul called? This time.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Started up oops, pocket picked Ludwig missus Carvallo doesn't three
to two.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
That was was probably one of the most frustrating players
I've ever seen the Sockers do and not necessarily saying like, oh,
like ruggles like this and then that that play, like
it's just elementary to not do that in that position. Right,
It's easier for me to say this in this position,
but are you trying to rule let the ball outside
in a dangerous position you lose it, And even then

(17:01):
it doesn't seem like it was completely intentional, like you
just kind of half gas that Roulette attempt and you
just let the ball roll and you put your team
in a bad position there.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Soccers get their first.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Power play goal of the season, moving the ball around here,
trailing three to two, approaching five minutes in the first half,
and Charlie sees Keiko in the corner, and Keiko sees
a very tiny window and puts it right in that window.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
Perfect delivery Tony for three to three.

Speaker 6 (17:31):
Yeah, Keko's one of those players that right now is
doing it for the sanding of soccers and I want
to see more of. But it's the supporting cast that
once they connect and put the players and help each
other out. They're able to execute just like this good
vision right here. And Keko just you know, has really
taken into shooting and I really like that. Usually he
just takes an extra second to think about it. That's

(17:53):
just a prototypical Spaniard outdoor player. But no, he's kind
of picking it up. There's a window of opportunity. Boom,
let's go.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Three to three tie.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
You think the soccers are getting something together, here's another
opportunity to void. Gets saved, but then play down into
the corner, fight for it, and as you know, Jose
Gonzales is trying to do the best thing he can,
but he inadvertently centers the ball to Ian Bennett and
that's a defensive misplay by San Diego.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
It's not one of intention, it's not one of you know,
lack of effort. It's you can't do this.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
You can't be down in the corner and trying to
use the corner wall or the goal wall as your
friend there. If you're gonna do that, you have to
smash it so that it goes way out to midfield instead.
It was a little tap and it was basically a
centering pass four to three. Great chance right there for Tavoi.

(18:51):
This one went to replay. I think they made the
right decision that the ball went halfway over the line
but did not go all.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
The way over.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
This was the best look that Amota could provide. And
right there, yeah, I still believe the ball is over
the line. Is on the line, I mean hovering over
the line.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
Yeah, it's a great saving, great effort by Edjimadu on
that one. But the margins again, like any any other time,
the soccer score.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
That four to three Milwaukee and a quick tap in
for five to three. And where's the defense on this one?
Slow to get back, slow to react. I'm pretty sure
if I remember, right, Can we get back to the
very beginning of this play. I'm pretty sure it started

(19:41):
with a double late change off of the off of
the bench. All right, yeah, right from here? Can we
see it.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
Now?

Speaker 3 (19:52):
It's another one later.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Then there's another one where we are we're really laid
off the bench, but you can see the team is
just trailing the play's that's a defensive breakdown for San Diego.
And the guys in the back aren't going full speed.
The guys in the front are doing the very best
they can, but they're out numbered in that spot and
it's five to three. Soccers get one back on a

(20:16):
great individual play boom. Nothing Willy B can do.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
On that one.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
It's over the it's right into the corner for five
to four. First point for Tavoi. He all he did
was lay it back in. About six seconds later, Charlie
takes the shot. But I mean, look, it's a good
trap by Tivoi. I don't want to diminish it. He
traps and controls the ball, which is what the target's
supposed to do. He gets it to the top scorer,
and the top scorer scores and that's some good ball
for San Diego.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Now here's the one that needs to be scored. Great
save by Willie B. And then.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Other side balls blocked, and now fourteen seconds left in
the half. As Charlie, there's Tavoi on the back post.
That's got to be scored.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
You have to score that.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
That simply has to be scored. Third quarter starts with
a defensive breakdown. Oris Pardo erases it a one v one.
That's a bonus save for San Diego. Now here comes Hoffman.
He's got another great chance. Great save, Milwaukee is stretching
San Diego's defense over and over in this highlight clip.

(21:28):
And then this is the one that you do have
to put a little bit on twenty seven Parto with
poor work with the feet just really gives the ball
to Sanchez, forces Pacheco into this blue card.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
And of course the sockers. This is the key turning
point to me in this entire match, Tony.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
It's been five to four the whole third quarter, which
means at any point, if San Diego scores, they're gonna
get the crowd behind him, they're gonna get the supporters
behind him, they're gonna have the momentum.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Instead.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
That was a mistake, right, a physical error, but nonetheless,
right here, you've got an outlet wide.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
You could go deep.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
Instead you take the short route and you basically it's
like a quarterback throwing an interception at the line.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
You know when you do that, you know it's gonna
be big trouble.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
But Checko knows it's big trouble, so he pulls down
Sanchetz and now the Soccers have to defend, and they
defend the entire minute forty six of the third quarter.
Powerplay one more look it was obvious, but you get
to the fourth quarter, there's the review and look they're
about to kill it.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
Five four three two. Uh oh, how do you get
your hands up there? So frustrate?

Speaker 4 (22:38):
How do you get your hands up there? That's two
hands raised. What are you gonna do successfully with two
hands raised out in front of you on an indoor
soccer floor. If he kicks the ball and hits you,
that's a card. Or you can hit him and that's
a card. And now there's one second and they have

(23:00):
to defend a five v three, which means Ricardo Carvallo
has this on a tee and all he has to
do is that. And not only do they score and
go ahead six', four but now they get an entire
another two minutes to attack And San diego defends this
power play with tired. Defenders they defend this next power,

(23:20):
play but right, there just Around, certa there's not enough
humans to. Guard Greig childs looks like he's gonna get
his first of the. Year this is that one back he'll,
try just misses that. ONE a couple of good chances doesn't.
Happen weaving. Strike that one's a little bit. Wide great
save By pardo doing his part once. AGAIN i think

(23:43):
parto for two games has been really there was that one,
play you, know and everyone's going to make a mistake
here or, there so nothing really to say about.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
That here's the.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Switch look at? It did You you paused it, Perfectly?
Tony back to it. Again here it.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Is this is a. Look, well you're still in this.
Game it's an indoor soccer. Game it's six to. Four
got the. Save now.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Here's the next movement back and there's watch two players,
oops both behind the.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Play just no sense of urgency. Whatsoever, well the.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Two guys getting off didn't get off as fast as they,
could could. They, Ye now you've gotten out manned, underneath
and you've got an open guy down, low and the
two defenders who could have cleared that ball are both
running into the, play and it's seven to four in
the game's basically over at this, point because now you
KNOW sd is going to go to a six attacker,
formation and at this stage in the, year the most

(24:49):
likely thing that's going to happen is what you're about
to see steal and a tappin' or rakin for eight
Four scockers give up on the sixth attacker, formation WHICH
i think was game appropriate but kind of a little,
sad and the score ends eight.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Four not really much to say that was a whole
team loss On.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Sunday there's no element of the soccers that can hold
their hand up and say we did.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Great.

Speaker 6 (25:23):
Yeah, no there was energy spent in ways that the
soccers didn't need to spend.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Energy, Right there was too much time defending powerplay.

Speaker 6 (25:30):
Situations there was too much energy trying to clean up
mistakes from simple elementary school connections that need to go
ahead and happen on. Offense it seemed like we were
just trailing one step behind everything that the defense was
already predetermined to go ahead and, do and it's just
these connections that weren't. Happening and in the pregame we

(25:51):
were talking about just how they were working on those.
Connections but you, KNOW i think that also once again
needs to be an emphasis again because you usually the
soccers save so much energy in the chemistry building that they.
Have they don't have to play all out one hundred
percent let's, go because they have that.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Finesse the finesse carries, them the talent carries.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
Them but when you have a situation where you're not
mixing talent along with a full on effort that we've
seen these players.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Have sometimes you just make mistakes like.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
That AND i, mean, again there's way too many opportunities
that were given for the soccers not only to, complete
but opportunities for waves to go ahead and you, know
just take it to down and that's exactly what they.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
Did, yeah it's it's really, frustrating AND i think a
couple of things are are standing out right.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Now you're not.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Getting anything from the forward position right, now your two
matches in and your forward snap zero goals. Combined and
yeah it's two, games there's twenty two to. Go they
could score six goals On, friday you don't. Know but
that's a problem because this team has forwards named To Voy,

(27:06):
Morgan Nick, Perera Craig. Chiles those are the three guys
that are expected to finish in the top five in
the team in scoring at the end of the year
and the top four in. Goalscoring so when they're all on,
zero and of Course nick had to sit out the
last game with a knee, issue that's a sign that

(27:29):
your offense is not doing things.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Right and SOMETHING i thought was.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
Really, interesting and that late change there reminded me of, It,
tony SO i looked it. Up the soccers have conceded
thirteen goals in two. Games if you'd like to take
away that last, one the empty, netter that's twelve goals
in two. Games eight of the twelve have come on

(27:58):
the long, change meaning the soccers bench being the furthest
away from the defensive zone as opposed to being.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Closer is it that or.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
Eight of the twelve goals have been scored in the
second and fourth quarters when a team could be a
little more tired early in the.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Game is it? Fitness is it?

Speaker 4 (28:22):
Speed are we fast enough to get back to our
bench on the long? Run these are the Questions i'm
sure the soccers staff and players players have to be
asking themselves at this. Point because this is a, proud
talented veteran group with over a half dozen guys who
have been in every season at THE nasl in their.

(28:42):
Career these guys understand that oh one and one isn't
a death. Sentence it's not at. All it can be
completely forgotten at the end of a championship season that
is thought back on as. Dominant, okay SO i want
to inject that positivity into the soccers. World this is
A french with high, standards and their standard remains to
win the title this. Year so oh one and one

(29:05):
is not ideal, obviously but it's not a deal. Breaker
the deal breaker is seeing guys jogging to the, bench
seeing guys slow on their, changes seeing guys not racing
into the defensive, zone uh to cover a rebound which
turns into a, goal a little bit of mental drift

(29:29):
Where i'm going to do a pirouette instead of a simple,
Pass i'm going to pass it off the goal wall
into the, crease you, know which is just you just
can never do like these all things happened last. Game
so in game two where you can't, say, well we're
just getting the rust, off where you, know we haven't
played in nine, months through to do to, Do like,

(29:50):
no it's game. Two you had a hard week of
practice after losing game, one and this is what you
came out. With SO i really think it makes for
a very interesting, storyline to be, sure and it leads
this soccers team to probably at one, level feel like,
hey why you, guys an't you know calm?

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Down basically, right keep, calm carry.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
ON i picked the cup for a reason, today, Obviously
but on the other, side it could be every year
the team gets older and the league gets the league is.
Concentrated this, year you gotta come one. Hundred you gotta
come one. Hundred i'm, curious and we'll put it straight To.

(30:36):
Renee let's let's bring them on in the assistant coach
of The San Diego, soccers a man who's been, there done,
THAT a man in, fact who's was a soccer in
A Milwaukee wave at the start of his. Career the
Great Renee artis is joining us right now on soccers overtime.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Coach how are, you, hey?

Speaker 7 (30:59):
GUY i thought the going and they're. Good thank you
for having.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Me, well the pleasures are.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Sir and whenever the team's in a little bit of a,
rout we want to make sure we get to either
a coach or a, CAPTAIN, uh to be able to
chat through what's going on and to to really talk
to IT uh in honest. Ways so what are your
thoughts after watching these two game films and experiencing from
the bench these two.

Speaker 7 (31:23):
Losses SO i will, say first of, all we're super
disappointed about the start of the season right when they were,
respected especially at. Home start zering. Too if you look
at the entire, game we struggle a little bit adjusting
to the to their format or or their. Strategy BUT

(31:43):
i mean at the end of the, day by the fourth,
quarter we're still loved with one. Goal, so, UH i
call that again like kind of. Accident maybe those don't
things happen sometimes you know you plan right and just
didn't go as well as planned the last four minutes
of the, game, Right so the question that we start

(32:04):
asking ourselves like is this something that we could have done?
Better it's a, strategy it's did we started the the opponent?
Properly did depends understood the roles on those conditions when
you were defending with his? Attacker? Uh is the team fit?
Enough so is an individual, mistake this is a group,
Mistake this is a coaching. Mistake so you try to

(32:27):
factor all this stuff to analyze what exactly. Happened and
first game of the, year, Right, so, Like, OKAY i
think it was a little combination of maybe players not
adjusting quick enough to to, strategy guys perform with the,
attacker and and we're just like the time game was

(32:48):
kind of like weird kind of lucky bounced and so
the last, game, okay so we prepare for the second In.
Milwaukee So, milwaukee we know it's going to be, difficult
more difficult or as difficult As, ontario but the Different
sealo software, now so we expect and for them not
to pressure, us which kind of. Happened they kind of
drop so our philosophy in the. Game and you have

(33:10):
been around for a long time. Too we like to
propose the. Game we like to keep the ball, well
like to be. Spectaculally we're going to go to the
goal opposite goal or create plays offensively when score. Goals
and at some point when we were, Ahead, uh it
was working till the kind of like the mental breakdown
on the. Team so mental breakdown defensively started to happen

(33:32):
right when they tie the, game when they went, up
and then before two and THEN i just kind of
like the battle of the, plan the thing that we
had nine didn't go as well as. Planned so we
go back to the same questions that we, asked Like,
ontario is it a, team is that individual and so? Forth,
Right SO i think right now the team is aware
ABOUT i think you said earlier the standards of this.

(33:55):
Club it's just not acceptable story like. That the performance
or some other, players, uh the performance mayle preparation needs
to be. Better SO i think anybody's just kind of
like ready for the next, one next game to just
prove ourselves once again that we are better than the
first two, games that we just.

Speaker 6 (34:14):
Perform, yeah and in speaking of that soccer's way of
playing in a spectacular the way that we know that
soccers know how to, play especially on. Offense you just
help me just and then just help break down what
happened here to shut down the offense in the second
half this Last sunday Against.

Speaker 7 (34:30):
Wave so they shouted down you, me, yeah, way. Okay
SO i mean we we did have a few opportunities.
AROUND i remember one taboi that the go ahead, goal
we're just going to power. Play that's a piece that
we're not really still like, finesse, Right AND i, think,

(34:53):
uh we just we didn't create many chances that we
would like. TO i think we struggle as a team
that they were super disciplined, defensively the energy, defensively and
we just couldn't break them. Down we're not passionate. Enough
and sometimes when you want to score so so bad

(35:15):
to tie the. Game obviously you're taking a risk of
putting people forward and you can count attack or the
energy defensively is not the same because you're so focused
on trying to score the, goal the tires or the
go ahead.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
Goal.

Speaker 7 (35:28):
Right SO i think it was a. COMBINATION i, Mean,
mark it was a combinational just. Everything when when things
don't go round, offensively by, consequence it might not go
as well, defensively, Right SO i think that's that's the.
Thing that's what. Happened we just didn't have enough ideas
or clear ideas to how to penetrate a team who

(35:51):
defensively was so.

Speaker 4 (35:52):
Organized renee along those, lines and we thank you again
for being. Here everyone's goal is to see the soccers
went on front and for these boys to come together
and you, know put a seventh banner for the modern
franchise up on the. Wall SO i know the questions
we're asking are the same questions you guys ask themself,
yourself and the same questions the players ask.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Themselves so here's the next, question which is the forward.

Speaker 4 (36:19):
Position you've got An All league player in Two Void
morgan AN mvp twice over In Nick perrera obviously couldn't
play the last. Game a three TIME, mvp all time
league scorer In Craig. Chiles these three guys are expected
to be three of the top five goal scorers on the,
team and your two games in and none of them

(36:42):
have scored a. Goal and in, PARTICULAR i will hold
my hand up as a critic and, SAY i haven't
seen To void be as aggressive in getting to, balls
in controlling the, ball in making calm, decision in being
aware and passing it.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Off he's got one.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Assist it was on a drop back That charlie, dribbled,
ribble dribbled and then, Shot so it wasn't passing a player.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Open in other, words he is just one guy on the.
Team it's not his.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Fault every guy is going to hold their hand up
and look in the mirror and SAY i could have
done this. Better but from that forward, group how can
the soccers get more?

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Immediately?

Speaker 7 (37:26):
Right so that's a BIG i, mean that's a concern
obviously about how can we get the players to play
to the maximum? Abilities? Right how can we get him
there to the players that we know what he can?

Speaker 4 (37:41):
Do?

Speaker 7 (37:41):
Right? Uh, taboy we talk About, Taboy we know the
bilder Of, taboy and the better that he, gets the
more difficult be for him to score because the way
they the teams are marking him, right super, tight very,
aggressive very physical and the most. Successful SO i think
with Ta boy is just a matter of time and

(38:04):
it's more mental than anything, ELSE i, think because forwarding
to pressure themself too much in the time when things
don't go, well AND i think that pressure can build
up until the release of pressure are scoring or making
a good. Play. Correct SO i think just amount of
time that uh That taball will get us will get
to the point that we know what he can do
for us unluckily or just the way the sketule was this,

(38:28):
year he played against a very too decent teams, defensively
so it wasn't Easy nick obviously the first game back
in a. While there's a lot of factors involved and
maybe the way he played right he got. Hurt and
the role Of childs as everybody, knows has changed this,

(38:49):
year right because it's his ability to it's not the
same as he was before and it's something that we're
all aware and he's. Aware so he's role is more
on the tactical, side, right more on the set pieces
and power, plays and whenever we need he can go,
inside he can go for a shifts or. Two SO

(39:10):
i think we're trying to find the. Balance fields is
going to try to find a balance between how to
get the best of each, one and it's not an easy.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
Task.

Speaker 7 (39:19):
Right on the other, hand we need to work with
our midfielders, say, okay how can we get advantage Of,
Taboy well he's in the, Field what type of ball
does he? Like what type of runs do you need
to make When nick is? There how we play With
nick and With childs and so. Forth so it's a
it's a. Process it takes a little bit of time
BECAUSE i mean from last year we asked What christian

(39:43):
And leason, played Whether pee is not, playing and you might, say,
well three or four guys will make a big different
one in The indo soccer game and team three or
four guys off the. Lineup it is an. Impact it
makes an, Impact, Okerry so so we're trying to adjust
our band came out from my, injury, right he hasn't
played a while and he was still. Rusty SO i

(40:05):
mean there's a lot of reasons that we can or excuse,
it but we don't want to use excuse. It we
just kind of how can we fix? It how can
we get? Better we believe in the group of players
that we, have they were bright in here for a,
reason AND i think that this is just a little
bit more time to get to the point that we
want to. Get and one hundred Percent i'd rather start
slow and finish. Strong they start super, strong, strong and

(40:27):
if not finished as strong as we. Started it's a long, season,
Right it's a lot of. Games WE i, mean you,
know in the last year in a championship, game we
end up with five guys that pretty much didn't play
In Rojo mohica because people were, hurt people were, injured
and smaller than As. Hiuahua so taking that, accountability we

(40:51):
want to force players to play when we know that
in the long run we need them. Healthy SO i
think it's a matter of, time, honestly AND i, again
we're super disappointed we're not expected to be going to
uh But i'd rather and, Honestly i'd rather have tho
stop of games now then. Later and this will be

(41:12):
a great express for all of, us right because we
can see exactly where we need to go and you,
know and we've got time to do.

Speaker 6 (41:19):
It, NO i, Agree and just like you, Know craig
was mentioning some of the firepower that there is on
offense and just give them time to cook us as
a long. Season as you're, saying just looking at those
defensive breakdowns in front of net. Too we see the
experience with these with these. Players we see guys in that,
ruggles we see everybody who's known to be. There what's
the message to those players on defense to just kind

(41:39):
of get them out of that funk as?

Speaker 3 (41:41):
Well?

Speaker 7 (41:42):
Correct SO i think it was a group bad. Performers
so when just when one thing looks, bad kind of
everything went, bad. Right and WHEN i say, Bad i'm
not Saying disastro's, bad but not to the standards of the, soccers.
Right so the most important thing for me is that

(42:06):
the players realized that what can they do? Better the
coach and staff was the plan to move forward to
make it. Better and we have confidence in this players
we're talking about the other. DAY i mean seven GUYS i,
THINK i don't, Know, craig you can help me have
won championship right.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
Before in the.

Speaker 7 (42:22):
PAST i mean they, have they have very they have
been very successful with, us so we have faith they
know what to, do they know how to do. It
they've been they've done. It BUT i think just the
beginning the, year the beginnd of the, year we're just
not there yet, physically, mentally. Tactically so although they think
we just need to get, better.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
Seven guys eight Counting nix And chris because they were
on the twenty and ten to eleven. Team eight guys
have lifted a cup With San diego and also, three, four, five, six.
Seven you've got guys who have played every year in the,
league And charlie's played every year but one in the.

(43:05):
League so you're talking about the maximum veteran experience that
a team can have now in saying that forty, one thirty,
six thirty, two thirty, three thirty thirty, two thirty, seven thirty,
three thirty, seven thirty, three thirty, four thirty, three forty,
one thirty, nine those are real ages of the players

(43:26):
on this. TEAM i noted right before you came on
that eight of the twelve goals allowed have been on
the long. Change uh and on the second quarter within a.
Half is there any concern about just overall team speed
because an older team isn't going to be a faster, team.

Speaker 7 (43:46):
RIGHT i don't want to use the bench to the
lent of the bench is further from the goal as an.
EXCUSE i think it was JUST u which is not
smart enough to on a situation to get back in,
defense wait to hold the ball longer and they'll be
exposed to those counter. Attacks we are a very, team

(44:06):
so that's not a challenge that we, have like how
can we manage to keep these guys practicing every day
and then perform?

Speaker 3 (44:12):
Right so.

Speaker 7 (44:15):
The SPEED i mean we. Do we do have A
we Have, keko we have A, checko we Have. MENDES i,
mean we have A, gonzalez Both. GONZALES i MEAN i
think we have enough Speed leo coming, back this just Coming.
Friday we don't Know felippe might come, Back so we're

(44:38):
Gonna we're gonna have enough experience with you, know speed
or ability to run up and down the field on
both offense and. Defense, so, uh it could be, well
think that it's just you're an attack and you lose
the ball and you, realize, Oh i'm not a wrong
position and we're just gonna get. There BUT i feel

(45:00):
more like it was more like a game situation that
that we're exposed on those goals than than speed or anything.
ELSE i Think paul right be doing a great. JOB
i mean from the coaching. STAFF i mean you said
the players, championship but from the coaching, staff parade won
how many CHAMPIONSHIPS i? Was i'm lucky enough to also want,
championship Feel chicky's so we we. Are we are aware

(45:25):
of what it needs to what we need to do
in order to win it. Again and that's that's the
more concern right now for for.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
Us, WELL i truly appreciate first of all that you
are here with.

Speaker 6 (45:37):
Us thank you again having the ability because again you
don't see this in a lot of, sports and you're
here being able to answer these so you know you
know all of. This then what are some signs that
you can give us and the people Of hope that
you see on the training, ground the way that the
players have. Responded what are some things that we can
look forward to that, say, hey you know, what we
know where we're, at but moving, forward ava, combat this

(45:58):
is what's going to.

Speaker 7 (45:59):
Change, Yeah so first of, all we're brave enough to
and mature enough to understand that we're that that we're making, mistakes,
right which sure enough to, understand, hey we're making. Mistake
we're accountable for, performance all. Right so that's the first,
step understanding that there's that you are not up to.

(46:21):
Potential the second is like every day you go to
work and you have a plan and you try to
make it. Better and we've started with individual, meetings with group,
meetings and we're doing some interventions they're probably never done
before because we've never been in this type of crisis.
Before and, uh we're doing all the tools that we

(46:45):
know how to do in order to turn this thing. Around,
Right we're just gonna sit back and hope me that
it's gonna fait by. Itself it's not gonna, happen, Right
it's not gonna. Happen so we do. Intervention we're trying
to get the players going understand what's going on in
affecting the game time or the, performance and try to

(47:05):
put the best producut there every time we stop on the.

Speaker 4 (47:07):
Field love, it, man AND i say it all the,
time AND i think you've heard it even within this,
Conversation like one of the THINGS i love the most
about my. Job And i've loved the most about my
job for seventeen years working with The San diego soccers
is that it's. Championships that's our goal is win the.
Title it's not, like, hey let's have a cool five

(47:30):
hundred season where we finish with the fifth seed and
maybe we'll get lucky and win this.

Speaker 3 (47:34):
Series you, know that's not.

Speaker 4 (47:36):
It even as a guy who's A padres, diehard, like,
hey we could win the wild, card you, know and
if we're, lucky maybe we'll get a break and we'll
beat that bad team and then who, knows all the
cards will. Fall, no the soccers are like from day,
one we're gonna win the. Title how do we win the?
Title so that's why you hear a little bit more

(47:57):
on our side of like.

Speaker 3 (48:00):
Where is? It where's not the?

Speaker 4 (48:02):
Win but we want to see soccer's, soccer you, know
and we know what it looks like and we want
to see, it and you guys want the same thing
and the players want the same. Thing and when everyone
is aligned that that performance wasn't one that you put
up on the board and, say, okay, guys you, know
let's just TWIST a AND. B, no this is a

(48:24):
like you, said interventions and making it right because the
soccers need to make it. Right next, game, though comes
your way in less than forty eight hours from right,
now and It's, empire And empire is a good young
team that's well. Coached they're going to have a huge
crowd in front of. Them it's that same system that

(48:47):
was bothersome in match. One so without giving away the,
farm obviously you know your thoughts on Facing obasi strikers.

Speaker 7 (48:56):
Again THEY i, mean obviously they are a different team you,
said they make a lot of changes and there's a
lot of players that want to prove. Themselves first of,
all they're capable playing this game and prove themselves to
the organization that they. Represent, Right so whenever we have
a motivated, player you have to watch. Out you have

(49:18):
to be careful because if you look at the, roster
you recognize more than three or four, players, RIGHT i
mean the goalkeeper and they have a couple of, defenders
and they Have stinson AND i don't know who, else,
Right so sometimes that's dangerous because you know the, players
you don't know what the billies are and you know

(49:38):
they're coming at. You you guys know. This every time
somebody play the. Soccers they play like for them it's
their final championship game and not to BE i don't
take credit away from, them BUT i never seen on teil,
PLAYERS i mean walk the way players so happy after

(49:59):
they beat us because it's been a long time for.
Them they beat the. SOCCERS i cannot remember time Lost.
ONTARIO i can remember the last TIME i, lost like
In Milwaukee. Wave so some of us need to understand
that every time we step on the, field they're coming
to get. Us they're, Coming they're coming one hundred. Percent they're,
vicious they don't. Care they just want to beat The.

(50:20):
Soccers so we need to be ready for. Them we
need to be ready for. Them this game is no
different than the first. Opener, okay they're at, home they're
twice and motivated because they just beat us at. Home
now they got to put themself to their fans and
to the ownership group and to the coach that they're for,
real just here. Right so we have to be super,
smart prepared for, combat and then get back our solid

(50:46):
play and get the confidence back that some of the
players probably are.

Speaker 4 (50:51):
Missing, Well i'm looking forward to seeing it On, friday my,
Friend it'll be an exciting one At Toyota.

Speaker 3 (50:57):
Arena for.

Speaker 4 (50:58):
Sure seven twenty is the tip, off tip. Off they
will not tip it. Off it'll be the kickoff AT Cbs.
Sports Galazo network is where you can Watch philly And
friends with all the. Action, renee thank you so. Much
grading midterms was probably more fun than this. Interview but,
nonetheless thank you for your time and best of.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
Luck to the club On friday night, anytime.

Speaker 7 (51:24):
Anytime thank yous for having, us and thank, you thank.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
You there he goes el, maestro el profe and that
is That's. Renee RTIs for sure the professor giving us
a lot of good information right. There and you, KNOW
i don't know if it calms the nerves of the soccers,
fans BUT i think it was a clear Recognition tony

(51:49):
that you know what we saw wasn't. Inaccurate you know's
there's stuff that they're trying to work on tiding, up
and there's stuff that they know they haven't done as
well as they.

Speaker 3 (51:58):
Should, yeah and being intentional about those. Approaches.

Speaker 6 (52:01):
Right we heard a lot of accountability there from Coach.
Renee just you, KNOW i wouldn't think that crisis would
be you, know where we're at with, that as Coach rene,
said but obviously there's a recognition that, like, no this
is not up to, parts not up to. Standard we
need to go ahead and adjust some of these. Things
and we've seen the soccers be able to bounce back

(52:23):
from this and be able to bring up those young
talents with. Them looking last year At Sebastian, mendez, right
same kind of. Start sebastian kind of floundered in his own,
style and once he locked in with the way to do,
things you had a fantastic player that integrated with the.
Soccers now you have the same thing With, pacheco who
is another young player who's out there, running, running. Running

(52:44):
both of them should have a north star from the
veterans of, like, oh this is how we're supposed to do,
this this is how we're going through these, motions but
they're not seeing that right.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
Now so once those things start, connecting AND i THINK.

Speaker 6 (52:55):
I do feel a little bit better after hearing Coach
renee and everything that's happening over, training that these things
will start coming together AND i don't ever see these
things as.

Speaker 3 (53:06):
EXCUSES i think it is more context what he was bringing.
Out one interesting thing that he dropped in.

Speaker 4 (53:12):
There if you heard is that they're hoping to Have
leo back On, friday AND i was just thinking through
that if you can Get leo back to, midfield that
means you can Get bond back to. Forward AND i
Think bond has a better chance of getting into That
christian gudieras spot Than Jose gonzalez does Because taylor has

(53:38):
a little more, speed he's got the, size but he's
got that edge that you want for your defensive runner,
forward and, furthermore he can contribute offensively as. Well SO
i like, that And bond in the midfield gives you
a little less of. That putting him into the forward
mix gets me excited that on a for, example free

(54:02):
kick on the left side of the field that doesn't go,
right that childs can run to the near door And
bond can run out the far door and make up
those fifteen feet and we cannot have an issue with
a long. Change so that you, know it's one of those,
things As renee, said details playing, smart like doing the

(54:26):
little things right with this much veteran no how on this.
Team it shouldn't be retaught each. Year it should be.
Instinctive but sometimes when you assume that you can lose
your rhythm just a little. Bit you, know you're all
accomplished studio, musicians but if you don't, practice you still

(54:46):
might miss a few notes no matter how good you.
Are Even bobby would say, that the Great Bobby cressey
would say, THAT i saw him doing lots of rehearsals
for this Big christmas show that he's doing in a
couple of, weeks and that's.

Speaker 3 (54:57):
Why and all those guys are like incredible.

Speaker 4 (55:00):
Talented you could throw the music in front of them
and they would play it and most people wouldn't, know
but they would make mistakes along the. Way and the
same thing can happen for an incredibly talented group like
The San Diego.

Speaker 6 (55:10):
SOCCERS i do like the acknowledgment to by Coach renee,
that you, know it was probably the biggest victory of
both of those teams in a, while especially against The.
Soccers and you, know just seeing the way That waves
celebrated at the end almost like they won in, overtime
just the eight to, five just a you, know just

(55:31):
it looked like they won the whole whole thing against The.

Speaker 3 (55:34):
Soccers and look if that's what it means.

Speaker 6 (55:36):
When when players teams are coming, in then it means
that the soccers need to be able to respond in
that same manner and be able to show them the
regality of oh you want to see the, Soccers we'll
give you the.

Speaker 4 (55:46):
Soccers then, indeed And friday will be, fascinating you, Know
and there's a lot of guys who have a lot
to put on the line AND i will be very
curious to see how they. Respond but to, me the
single biggest question of this team so far this year
is how do you Replace christian On. Gudierez how do

(56:08):
you replace his? Energy how do you replace him specifically
physically in the? Lineup can you get a player of,
like it's not going to be exactly the same because
he was the, fittest the most. Driven when they ran
six boards at the end of a, practice it would
Be christian.

Speaker 3 (56:27):
And then here came the rest of the. Guys There's,
christian and then here can the rest of the guys
the other?

Speaker 4 (56:32):
Way you, Know so you, know it's the kind of
thing that you don't just get to, like go no,
problem you, know as As renee, said, yeah you lose
three or four, Guys well that's you, know four guys
is twenty five percent of the, lineup and at any
point there's a tipping point where you go from, yeah

(56:53):
we lost one, guy but everyone can step up to,
no hang, on we've lost three or four.

Speaker 3 (56:57):
Guys now.

Speaker 4 (57:00):
Someone completely new is in a situation and everyone is
a little. Overloaded so doesn't mean they can't turn it
right around and win On. Friday AND i know that
they've gone To ontario and spoiled big crowds so many
times in the, past even rallying from like six to
one down in the second, quarter or seeing last Year

(57:24):
ontario rally from eight to four down in the fourth
quarter to tie the game and then the soccer still
found a way to win.

Speaker 7 (57:31):
It like.

Speaker 4 (57:34):
Those type of things have happened At Toyota arena many many.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
Times so.

Speaker 4 (57:41):
Let's see what happens this. Time that's pretty much what
we've got to. Do and that's kind of our striker's.
PREVIEW i mean to be honest when you talk ABOUT i,
mean you know it's that and can they solve can
they solve the goalkeeper?

Speaker 3 (57:59):
Situation you know it's well.

Speaker 4 (58:02):
Timed rosco makes open runs down the field And San
diego needs to hit on at least half their long
shots When erosco comes, up they missed all of them
the first, time and any one of them would have
won them three points in the.

Speaker 3 (58:22):
Game so.

Speaker 4 (58:24):
That's again it's like you can't panic in those. Moments
you've got to be thinking about it before it. Happens
like here comes To, rosco we're gonna block, it and
we're gonna get this one pass and this shot, away you,
know and with that intentionality you can beat that.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
System by the end of the. Year last, year the
soccers felt good against that.

Speaker 6 (58:45):
System, yeah and, look it's really crushing the spirits of the,
system right because that's the one big achilles heel Of
oboski ball is just having that big defensive empty net
and to have the confidence to have the reflex the skills.
THERE i can tell you, most if not, all the

(59:06):
soccer players can make it into goal from, anywhere even you,
know a tight angle that doesn't really. Matter but they
have to be able to take those opportunities and be
ready for a you, know a fitness.

Speaker 3 (59:19):
Showdown that's what it.

Speaker 6 (59:20):
Is because these players that are coming in they have the,
fitness they have the know how and are plug and
play into the system where it Doesn't it shouldn't matter
who's on the back of the, jersey whose name is, There,
like this is a soccer's way of. Playing they need
to go ahead and take control of the game and the,
tempo have the ball and you, know start, scoring even

(59:41):
if there is a goalkeeper in, net especially if there's
a goalkeeper in, net make sure to go ahead and do.
That and there's been some inspired play from goalkeepers against
soccers this. Year, sure, Okay i'll attest to, that but
still they have to take every single opportunity that's given
by the. Opponents AND i just you, KNOW i can
see this being the bounce back. GAME i don't want

(01:00:01):
to see another you.

Speaker 4 (01:00:02):
Know what is zero and three? Song, Okay i'm just
going to stop. There, YEAH i, mean you're really getting
into uncharted. Territory but even if they did lose In
ontario next, Week i'm not going to say the season's
over and the team needs to be broken.

Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
Up you.

Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
Know, now if they, lose you, know thirteen to, two
and everyone's jogging, back you might hear a different. Tone you,
know if somebody holds their hand up metaphorically and SAYS
i don't want to, play you, know that would be
a different. Situation but thinking About leo coming back it
then you you have to start asking the question Where's? Lao,

(01:00:40):
like you, Know leo's thirty, Seven he's.

Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
Not been.

Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
Full health and fitness the last couple of, years, uh
you know until maybe late in the. Season if he's coming,
back how how much does he have For? Friday because
adding one more minus speed play just creates one more counterattack.
OPPORTUNITY i do, believe AND i Thought renee kind of

(01:01:06):
hedged on that question, Appropriately LIKE i think this is
The achilles heal of the. Team The soccers are not
the fastest team in the. League so a fast team
is going to be able to beat you down the
floor no matter how talented your defenders are or how
talented your goalkeeper. IS a fast team is going to

(01:01:28):
find counter. Opportunities ontario is going to find counter opportunities
On friday because they Have manserrat And. Stintson they've got
guys who can, fly you, know and that is. Important
milwaukee had their. Guys lugwig like kind of came out of,

(01:01:49):
nowhere but he was a young guy who was racing
up and down the, field you, know and that was
good to get three points in a.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
Quarter so.

Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
The soccers have to beat. Tactical As renee, said they're
not going to be the fastest. Team you can't, employ you,
know some of the guys that are on the club
and say we're also.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Going to be the fastest. Team that's just. Crazy everyone
will tear their hamstrings.

Speaker 4 (01:02:11):
Trying like you, know but you have to be really,
tactical and you have to be really dedicated to making
the smart simple play defensively all the, time killing.

Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
Angles and by the, way you've got two.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
Great goalkeepers In boris And, chris so give him a
chance to see some, shots you. KNOW i, MEAN i
think it's not as much trying to block every shot
as making sure that you're in position to clear rebounds
and to turn around possession BECAUSE i Trust boris And
chris to stop the. Shot and If chris is Starting,

(01:02:46):
FRIDAY i Trust chris on an outman rush to stop
the shot if it needs to, happen you, know same
as we saw With boris in the last two.

Speaker 3 (01:02:54):
Games so.

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
And you, Know chris gives you some move out of
the keeper position as, well so it'll be an interesting
change of pace to see how that impacts What empire.
Does because we've got a guy who can move up
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
On his.

Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
Own so there's soccers and, strikers big. Crowd can you
for the set? Piece can a forward score? Goal but
can you tighten up all the? Things and then will
that be? Enough will that be enough or Will empire
be able to pull one out?

Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
Anyway? Yeah who?

Speaker 6 (01:03:35):
Knows and again this is a team With empire who's
evolving their own way of, playing, Right it's not necessarily
the Same empire strikers that they faced all of last.

Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
Year there is an added.

Speaker 6 (01:03:46):
Edge there is layers and dimensions to what Anul olbossi's.
Doing for, sure that's why he Was coach of The.
Year but, again even in that, aspect everybody has to
be focused and on. Point thinking about you, know the first, game,
right a challenge that was a little bit too early
may have saved that, game, Right we're talking about those

(01:04:06):
open goal opportunities that the soccers didn't. Take, well maybe
had we saved a challenge at a certain point and
then challenged a hamdball that you, know might have given
the soccers an opportunity to score and make that. Difference
like these are the margins in which the soccers operated,
with and you're gonna face another inspired team and empire

(01:04:29):
and they don't want nothing. More they would love nothing
more than to go.

Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
Ahead and have to a no on the, soccers and
if they, Did San diego would have four more chances
to win the season. Series you.

Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
Know so it is early days and everyone's going to play,
everyone and because of, that there's more elasticity in the
table than. Ever you're gonna Face Kansas city four times
in five games down the.

Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Stretch, yeah so.

Speaker 4 (01:04:59):
If you go on a, run you can push, them you,
know in, theory race and catch, them or if you were,
close race past, them or if you were a little,
behind you, know go, yeah or if they were, behind
they could. Go you, know like anything could happen when
you're playing that many games against one. Another one you're
gonna have a home and away against.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Everybody you, know like.

Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
Plenty of time doesn't mean they're playing well enough to
be happy about it if they, played But i'll tell you.

Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
That i'll tell you this right.

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
Now if they go back and play well On friday
and they do, lose you're not gonna hear me being,
like oh yeah. No on Next wednesday's, show BECAUSE i
need them to play. Better when they play, Well i'm
gonna take my chances with them against. Anybody they'll figure it.
Out but you got to play. Better you, know that

(01:05:50):
wasn't it On. Sunday so better days, Ahead better days.
Ahead if that's a max effort game for, them we've
got a different. STORY i, KNOW i think we all
know it. Wasn't so let's move on TO masl, news
of which there's very very little right. Now used to

(01:06:13):
be the time that the league had to hold their.
Breath baltimore got things started and they womped the comments
eleven to.

Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
Three.

Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
Unbelievable what a. Result they had a lot of issues
with their. Broadcast it was essentially unwatchable at certain. Points
and as soon as our broadcast is, Perfect i'll start
criticizing someone. Else's so you, know, listen things, happen AND
i absolutely get.

Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
That but it was. Tough it. Was it was tough.

Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
Going Then Kansas city went up To utica and almost lost.
Again they pulled it out nine to. Eight only new
NOTE i have here FOR masl news is where Was? Xavier,
yeah come, on get the.

Speaker 6 (01:07:05):
Like we didn't send him over to just be in
in in the bench like you, KNOW i understand, here
but come, on what are we?

Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Doing not?

Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
Okay not okay for? Me zero minutes For Xavier Snaire.
Williams what is he in the super comments pregame?

Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
Show he was he WISHES i, KNOW i know he
like what he would have been perfect for Those, god
he was going to be my.

Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
Superstar he was gonna be every, game every, game you're a. Star,
savior doesn't matter whether you play or, not every game
you're a. Star Uh, NO i, know, fine next, Game,
fine let the incumbents start the first. Game come, On,
tommy eleven, o'clock. TikTok let's go ahead and Get xavier

(01:08:02):
in the. GAME i want to see X men In Utica.
BLUE i want to see what. Happens so let's let's
get on. That and this Week baltimore goes To, tacoma
And tacoma will play two games at.

Speaker 3 (01:08:15):
Home we're in this weird spot right.

Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
Now The comments have played four, Times empires played, Once
Saint louis played twice in the first two, days and
they haven't played, since And tacoma hasn't played at. All
and there's holiday break coming, up so good chance to
get two under and this will tell us something About,
BALTIMORE i. ASSUME i GUESS i should just take a

(01:08:42):
look BEFORE i say that and see if the comments
have anybody that's going to scare The blast coaching, staff et.
Cetera looks like we've got our old. Friends Nestor hernandez.

Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
Is, there and we've got our old.

Speaker 4 (01:09:02):
Friends.

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
Yeah so it's the exact Same stars team Without nick And. Chris, okay,
well so you, Know Michael, ramos some young.

Speaker 4 (01:09:21):
Guys Ramon torres is still. There they've got some guys
who can. Run they've still Got Juice, cocks even though
he's like pushing, forty he's still, Fast Eddie, Naw Corey,
Keats Logan, Jones Kyle, Rivers Alex casaras like all The Doug,
Blima Adrian. Correa so we'll, See we'll. See If baltimore

(01:09:48):
goes and gets six, points.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
They might just be a. Problem.

Speaker 6 (01:09:53):
Yeah, yeah they had a really good run here towards
the end of the, season and it's that, team, Right
AND i think that's what's going to be highlighted this
season is the team aspects of each and of these
eight sides that you, know indoor soccer is a lot,
about you, know the, cohesion the, chemistry the almost the

(01:10:15):
telepathic nature of the sport where you have to know.

Speaker 3 (01:10:17):
Exactly where your teammates are at all. Times on offense and.

Speaker 6 (01:10:20):
Defense you pass sometimes blindly because you just know somebody
has to be. There but in order to build that
chemistry you have to go ahead and work with some.
Time there's a lot of new pieces for the soccers
at least, too but that's going to be highlighted the team,
aspect and that's WHERE i like about this, season is
that the better team, should in, theory be the, winner

(01:10:42):
and we'll see what that looks like at the end
of the.

Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
Season But, baltimore all. Right The brazilian sort of section
that they have is very interesting as. Well and.

Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
One thing that's definitely at least a little bit different
is the goalkeeping. POSITION i presume That Julian rodriguez is
going to take the. Net he started fifteen games last,
year ten to four and, one seven hundred safe, percentage
so he did. Alright But zerhoffer is not on the.
Team he's listed as, inactive so he was the strong number.

(01:11:16):
Two they've Got Jorge navarette who used to be In
florida they've got a young. GOALKEEPER i haven't really heard
Of Andre. Schaefely no bio, added no bio, added SO
i will not know anymore about. Him so But Chad
porch last year was The newcomer of The. Year he's

(01:11:37):
a pretty silky defender with a good, shot you. Know
And baltimore's got a lot of old players like we.
Do but we'll see how it holds up over the
course of the year because they've got some young talent as.
Well and that's it for AM asl.

Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
News that's. It nothing else is going. On that's. GOOD
i guess no news is. Good. Caws sometimes the league
just exhaled. Us, okay, okay, yeah you.

Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
Know soccer's at their season ticket member party On. Tuesday
if anyone just wants in the chat to ask any
questions or, whatever, uh you, know feel free to fire.
Away we're at the end of the show here. NOW
i WISH i could have been. There tuesdays are my
daddy driving, days AND i say that would. Love but

(01:12:25):
my son is on a swim. Team he's on a
team that you pay money, for you, know him to
be a part, of and he can swim six days a.

Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Week if he wanted. To oh, so, yeah so you're
paying for. It, yeah the boy has to, Swim.

Speaker 4 (01:12:41):
Yeah and he doesn't On mondays And wednesdays because they're
At El capitan those, days which he has already learned
to call l crap and has told me the pool
is not sanitary and it's not nice and there's a
lot of dirt.

Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
And it's like.

Speaker 4 (01:12:57):
Yucky he doesn't like to go, There and all the
other days Are Mona, Vista so like last, NIGHT i
drove him out To Mona vista and THEN i have
to pick him up and it's supposed to be two hours,
later but it's like two and a half hours. Later
Uh so some spent spent some time at your favorite,
company THE, Ymca yeah favorite non properly get my run,

(01:13:20):
in get my workout, in and then bring my iPad
and like watch the show While i'm waiting for. Him
BUT i couldn't go up there as a result because
my wife had a scouting commitment and she couldn't do
the driving. Aspect SO i Know craig announced to the
crowd what he's announced to it to. Everyone you know
that he's retiring at the end of the. YEAR i
didn't think it. WAS i, MEAN i didn't think it

(01:13:42):
was breaking. News but, yeah, NO i think we broke
it a couple of. Times, ACTUALLY i feel like we.

Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Had but.

Speaker 4 (01:13:51):
It's just about like literally we talked about it on the.
SHOW i think we asked him about having a retirement.

Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Bobblehead. YEAH i can't wait for the person at the
event that was just completely shocked of, like oh my,
god what, no don't do. It whoever that was bless.

(01:14:19):
You it's.

Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
Wonderful it's no. Problem you don't have to watch this.
Show nobody has to watch this show except the two of.
Us uh so feel. Free but, yeah it was very very.
Special you heard it from the goalscorer's. Mouth at, least
there's no doubt about it unless he changes his. MIND i,

(01:14:40):
mean Ze erberto retired like four.

Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
Times but, yeah maybe he was trying to throw a
curveball to the.

Speaker 6 (01:14:46):
Media you, know there's his media day and you, know
maybe he wanted to tell the fans face to, face like,
no this was not it.

Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
Is it is what it.

Speaker 4 (01:14:57):
IS i, MEAN i drove by a billboard how a
road that he bought this Says i'm retiring like two months.
Ago but that's not, true, No Marley. SHEEN i mean
he put it on his Own instagram like a mother
or two. Ago but, nonetheless you, Know craig has been

(01:15:18):
such an incredible soccer and you know he'll be a
big part of the coaching staff going. Forward you, know
who knows how that even if it becomes a succession
at some point in, time you, Know but he's just
the brain of the. Act and it WAS i, thought
actually fun to see him out there working in the,
corner you, know getting a little more than just power

(01:15:42):
play and set peace. Time he would have gotten one of.
Those he's gonna get, One LIKE i was trying to
look this up today if there's ever been a soccer
season where he's gone the first two and not, Scored and,
unfortunately the M asl game logs on the computer only
go back to twenty twenty two and then it just

(01:16:02):
cuts off, arbitrarily so at that POINT i have to
go try and dig up old notebooks or. Something SO
i haven't gotten that far, yet AND i hope not
to Because i'll these scores On, friday SO i don't
have to look up the last time that he didn't
score in three games to start a, season Which i'm
sssying is never absolutely. Never, Yeah marlsia will give a

(01:16:29):
big shout out to the. Supporters brujos are. Coming we
are working and we had a meeting about this today
about trying to coordinate better with the supporters. Group they
do not play music loud when the supporters are, going
and they do not play music at all when the

(01:16:52):
supporters are, chanting but sometimes over the drums when it's
just been, drumming they've had low music in the.

Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
Background WHAT i.

Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Want to see and THE sg has told me that
they're amenable to, it is to give somebody a headset
in THE sg so that they can coordinate directly with
match day promotions and be able to be LIKE dj,
layout we're about to do something, big or you, know,
hey we're going to back off for a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
And you can play a.

Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
Song, now we're gonna give the we're gonna give the
drums a break for three, minutes you know. Whatever there's
the ability to do that because this is not. Outdoor
you don't have to go forty five plus forty five.
Plus you can go four stop a little bit through another.

Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
Three you, know.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
It's not more buffet style LIKE i can do it here,
here this, one that. One so, Yeah i've been really
happy with brew hosts. Leadership we were working really well,
TOGETHER i, think Not wood so. Far you, Know i've
felt really good with their communication with me and our

(01:18:09):
follow through with. Them and it's going to get even,
BETTER i think and hope so going. Forward AND i
think for, folks one THING i do recognize And i've Heard.

Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
I've heard is that.

Speaker 4 (01:18:26):
There's been complaints from season ticket members about the actual
sound of the. Drumming, like you, know it's it's. Loud it's,
loud and if you're outdoors or you're in A, sg
you're used to. It, Yeah but other folks who have
been used to hearing a highway to the Danger.

Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Zone Or footloose.

Speaker 4 (01:18:47):
Or, ghostbusters you, know over THE pa while while the
balls in, play they're not used to.

Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
That and indoor is different than. Outdoor.

Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
Outdoor that drumming is shooting right up into the, sky
AND i think the whole thing will get tightened. Up
but you, KNOW i get, It, marley she it's two
straight shows you've said that the arena is playing music DURING.
SG i texted our director of match day and asked

(01:19:19):
is music being played right? NOW i Think i'm hearing
something and she said it's only, low you, Know and,
yeah you're. Right if you're right into, it that could
theoretically hit two different cadences or two different.

Speaker 3 (01:19:29):
Beats BUT.

Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
I want there to be no music at. ALL i
think the DJs are cool with, That but then THE
sg has to be like locked in because they're they're
afraid of.

Speaker 3 (01:19:46):
The.

Speaker 4 (01:19:47):
Miss you, know it's got to be a tight ship
when you're doing it, indoors when it's not going to
be outdoors where it's just going to run till till
the referee blows and points to, midfield you. Know H,
so and As susan just, said we're depending where you,
said it can be, loud right and some like as you, Know,
TONY i.

Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
Always wear two earbuds to the. Game, yeah When i'm
in the supporter.

Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
Section some people probably don't want to do, that or
earplugs or, whatever BUT i literally do, that SO i,
Understand like When i'm standing six feet from not five,
drums but like you, know fifteen drums or, whatever twenty. Drums,
uh you, know it's it's, loud but that loudness is
going to help it's gonna help the. Players it creates

(01:20:34):
an atmosphere that allows us not to be like every
other indoor team in the world playing Playing footloose and
every hit from the eighties and early. Nineties you, KNOW
i don't know Why i'm picking On. Footloose it's a
perfectly good.

Speaker 6 (01:20:49):
Song The footloose, Crowd, NO i found it bound it,
Bound and it's the same crowd THAT i also see
inversely on that same argument doing the little shoulder shakes
and getting into the drums and beats as. Well so you,
know just like there is people who may not be

(01:21:11):
vibing with, it there are new people Who i'm seeing
right in front of, us like look over and be,
like OH i recognize, that or Oh i've heard this.

Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
Before, hey this will nice little, Beat like let's go
ahead and just shimming with.

Speaker 6 (01:21:23):
It and it's part of, it like it's a it's
a growth aspect that's, happening but it's all for the
sake of helping the players on the, team and the
players really enjoy. It right after the game, boom they
all go ahead and be intentional and they stop right
there a little bit with the ruhles and say thank.

Speaker 3 (01:21:39):
You again because they've been hearing them and their efforts
outside as.

Speaker 4 (01:21:42):
Well, Yeah i'm just you, know AND i get What
gamee's saying, too like you don't want to just listen
to a quiet arena listening to those guys yell at
each other and yell at the refs and. Whatever and you,
know a lot of it's In, spanish but still like
it's not you, know that's that's not what you want to.
Here but trust, me the beats infectious and it becomes

(01:22:06):
part of the identity of being at a soccer. Match
and while that hasn't been the identity of being at
an indoor soccer match, AGAIN i must say what has
been has been Playing spotify's greatest eighties. Kits and you,
know every once in a, while if you have a BETTER,
dj they might be mixing in some newer, beats but

(01:22:27):
usually it's been just, like what did they do in
the misl in nineteen eighty, Six let's do. That and
it takes a while to break out of that, too
because there's a lot of folks that have had that
be the soundtrack of their indoor soccer, experience you, know
is having music playing during the run of Play baltimore

(01:22:49):
plays full.

Speaker 6 (01:22:50):
Songs, YEAH i, mean what was it The Florida tropics
and Just welcome to The. JUNGLE i remember our specific games.

Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
Like On, loop.

Speaker 4 (01:23:01):
You, know but at least they had a guy, there
THE pa guy that would always you, KNOW i can't
even get. Once IF i remember the things he used
to say that drove me, crazy Then i'll not forget
it and then it'll like be in a dream. Tonight
AND i don't need. THAT i don't need that for.
Myself so, Yeah i'm really. Excited you, KNOW i Thought

(01:23:22):
Super soccers went step up better To game.

Speaker 3 (01:23:26):
One we need to.

Speaker 6 (01:23:30):
Get some footage of that and then like analyze it
because like exactly what you, said what happened happened with
especially with a balancing ball a task. Master, yeah and
again up in the, ante we have an. Envelope we
have this we have like it's getting bigger and it's getting,
smoother and you can tell the players are are trying,
to you, know not lose to their Fellow Super soccers,

(01:23:52):
too Especially, Juancho like he he was the one that
was looking to the right and he's, like what AM
i doing?

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
Here?

Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
Guys you, know it's actually made me think about how
MUCH i would love to even do it more like
actual Task, master which would mean going to practice and
shooting a task there and then editing that video to

(01:24:19):
make it as funny and fun as, possible and then
having the guys sitting there and playing, it and then
you give out the points so when you're, done you,
know but it just it is the kind of thing
that you could do some more elaborate stuff if you
got out of the arena and did those things you,

(01:24:40):
know LIKE i can't set up for, example The clippers
basketball hoop on the, Floor, NO i, oh, yeah of, course,
listen they're, away like could could? It what if it
was rolled up right behind the, net and then we,
no like we, can't can't do.

Speaker 3 (01:25:01):
It so so we should look into A Fisher price
one the old school. Ones you put water or sand in,
IT i, Mean.

Speaker 4 (01:25:13):
Randy Says Saint louis broadcast sings along with the arena.
Music yeah they, Do, yeah they. Do you're, right they.
Do they sure.

Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
Do that's a that's a factual. STATEMENT i would like our.

Speaker 4 (01:25:30):
Arena to get to the point, where you, know just LIKE,
stfc everyone's doing the, thunderclap and then maybe everyone's doing
the next, thing you, know uh ole oleo zulie. Chrome
we Are San Diego Football club right At La. Dlah
but like that's one of the ones THAT i think
most of the crowd knows by. Now, yeah you, know

(01:25:52):
like when we get to that, point then everyone's going
to be a part of the, group you know WHAT
i mean in this in an extended.

Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
Way so it's as you, know.

Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
Trying to trying to just ramp up the culture around
this club a little, bit and sometimes it's gonna it's
not gonna be, linear perfect. Growth there's a lot of
things going on and we're gonna do the best we.

Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
Can AND i THOUGHT i Thought match two was better
Than match. One s.

Speaker 7 (01:26:27):
Exactly.

Speaker 6 (01:26:28):
YEP i was, like, okay an arena full of fans,
saying you, know a is, cool but you're gonna hear
a lot of roh.

Speaker 3 (01:26:38):
Right, yeah it's, uh it's probably not that.

Speaker 4 (01:26:48):
One BUT i do challenge the brew host to come
up with some original soccer's specific chance that we can
get everybody to, go you, know.

Speaker 3 (01:27:03):
And see how that. Goes yeah as, well.

Speaker 4 (01:27:09):
Which is it's kind of like saying. Bluish but, anyways
that's it For soccers overtime for. Tonight thanks for the Quick.
