När Jila Mossaed flydde till Sverige 1986 var hon redan en etablerad författare i Iran. Som 38-årig tvåbarnsmor bestämde hon sig för att skapa en arena för poesi även i sitt nya hemland.
År 2018 valdes hon in som ledamot i Svenska Akademien och har fortsatt publicera diktsamlingar både på svenska och persiska. Hon är flerfaldigt översatt och prisbelönt, och tilldelades 2022 det prestigefyllda franska litteraturpriset ”Le Prix Max Jacob” för boken ”Åttonde landet”.
