I'm John Torek. And I'm Danny Sullivan.
What once seemed like a mysterious technology of
the future has become more and more common.
On the next episode of speaking of design,
we'll learn what it takes to become a
drone pilot, how drones are being used in
the AEC industry,
and how they're enabling exciting advances in design.

(00:20):
Just being able to get that bird's eye
view, I guess, it's almost like it's almost
like you are flying. It's almost like you
are a pilot yourself. That's what I enjoy
most about it, getting perspectives that not everybody
else can get. We can't fly an airplane,
but we are pilots. We're controlling aircraft. We're
controlling an FAA airspace.
So we do treat it like we are
pilots. We're looking at the wind and then

(00:42):
precipitation.
We're looking at just different things in the
atmosphere.
How are you gonna mitigate that? Where are
you gonna take off and land? We always
do a risk assessment before we start talking
about doing it. And so
if it doesn't pass that test, if the
risk is too high, then we don't even
do it. There's so many ways it's being
used from environmental
missions to helping understand an area to wetland

(01:06):
delineation,
looking at inspections all the way to
survey and mapping. You know, with all of
these services within the AEC industry, they're all
being very closely monitored and watched. And I
think there's a big turning point right now
with technology and how things are changing. Coming
up on the next episode of Speaking of
Design.
