Rick Wolter spent the majority of his adult life in prison. When he read about a program at San Quentin that was helping inmates prepare for life on the outside by teaching them how to code, he went about teaching himself through any means necessary.
Now that he's employed as a programmer, he's helping other formerly incarcerated and underprivileged individuals gain traction in the industry by building a community of experienced professionals as mentors and teachers.
Rick discusses the mindset, poor choices and environment that led to his prison sentence, the habits and relationships that helped him turn his life around and the steps he's taking to minimize the stigma of a criminal record to help people contribute to a better world.
