(00:00):
Hey, all.
Welcome back to the standout creatives.
And today I just wanted to doa little bit of an update episode.
And the first thing I'm goingto talk about is a big shift in the
way that I'm going to beformatting these podcasts from now
on.
I'm going to be dropping theintro and the outro little pieces,
because each of those takes alittle bit of time and effort to
put together.
And I think that's one of thethings that has kept me from consistently
(00:21):
posting.
So we'll go straight into theconversations because these are really
the meat and potatoes of whatis happening in the podcast, so you'll
be able to listen to thosemuch more quickly.
They're just slowing me down alittle bit.
So hopefully I'll be able toget a lot more stuff out there once
I strip all that down to the essentials.
(00:42):
This way I can also get theseepisodes onto YouTube because one
of the things that waspreventing me from doing that was
the idea that I need to havethis whole intro and outro ready
to go for each episode andneed to be unique and all that.
But I think what everyone isreally interested in is all the great
ideas coming from theseconversations with amazing creative
(01:04):
people.
So hopefully once I get tothat, I'll be able to streamline
things and get to the episodesmuch quicker and you'll be able to
hear all the amazing peopleI've been talking to.
There are also a couple ofother creative things that I went
through throughout the summer, starting in June and ending sometime
around August that took up alot of my time.
(01:26):
And I don't want to makeexcuses, but these were huge creative
endeavors that really got toall my time and attention, rightfully
so.
And the first one is my moveto Costa Rica in the beginning of
June.
I did talk about that a littlebit in a previous episode.
Along with that, I also didsomething called the Creativity Summit,
(01:49):
where a bunch of differentcreative people got together.
We had a few presentations onhow you can live and embody a more
creative life.
There are some storytellingelements to all of that, and one
of the things I do regret isnot talking more about that here
on the podcast, but hopefullythere'll be some more of those in
(02:10):
the future.
I did that with two veryamazing creative people and Mark
and Nikki, and hopefullyyou'll get to meet them soon and
we'll talk about that in anepisode of its own, because that
was something that was reallymind blowing for all of us to really
have done that and put that together.
(02:32):
And the last one is the GlobalZine Project, which was a collaboration
of a bunch of differentartists online, mostly through Substack
and.
And we compiled this PDF ofall of these different entries from
across the world into oneGlobal Zine.
(02:54):
And I will talk about thatwith the link in a little bit.
And I'd also like to shout outSteven and Tess for helping to get
that project together becausethey were very instrumental, especially
Slart Stephen, who was theoriginator of this idea.
(03:16):
So it would not have beenpossible without them.
And I did also want toannounce a new series that I am trying
to put together calledStandout Authors Unbound.
And the idea here is tointerview 100 authors through Substack
Lives, YouTube Lives andwritten Q&As with whatever format
(03:38):
feels best for authors.
And really it's about gettingtheir voices out there, amplifying
voices that have been suppressed.
I want to talk to marginalizedcommunities, anyone that really has
a story that hasn't been ableto get them out there.
And I want to show you thatyou can shine as an author, you can
(03:59):
stand out, and it's possible, you know.
And another thing that Imentioned previously with my creative
journey to Costa Rica, and thestory that I've.
I'm still writing to this dayis about my journey in Florida, why
we decided to leave, how welet go, saying goodbye to all those
(04:21):
things in Florida that we hadand loved and really starting anew
in Costa Rica, including theday of the flight, our journey here,
the first couple of weeks, andreally getting accustomed to a new
life here.
And through that, I also wantto do a little bit of creative work
myself with turning intosomething like a book, a play or
(04:45):
a TV script and see where it goes.
That doesn't mean it's goingto make its way out into the world,
but it is something that Ihave been thinking a lot about because
it's been really fun to writeand I love for you to really check
that out.
And that's just a reminderthat we need to follow our curiosity
in all the things that we'redoing, especially on the creative
front, because if you don't dothat, what are we really doing with
(05:09):
our creativity?
We really need to be using itto the best of our abilities.
And just a few other things.
I know there's a lot on myplate already, but a lot of things
that have been sticking intomy mind from before were creativity
parties.
I did talk a little bit aboutthat, and at this point I think it's
going to be a more virtual thing.
(05:30):
And that's really a spin onthe summit where it'd be a single
day where creative businessowners would get together, we would
work on our things, we wouldbreak through barriers, we would
help each other, keep eachother accountable and all that kinds
of stuff.
And I'd love to start runningthose with all of you.
(05:51):
And that's really it for this update.
I am going to be moving mostof my operations over to Substack,
so if you want to follow methere, that is standout creativebusiness.substack.com
and that's where I'll bewriting all about my journey.
I'm still doing that.
You can read about all ofthose things.
You can check out the podcastepisodes which I'll be releasing
(06:14):
there, as well as on yourfavorite podcast players.
And if you wanted to check outthe Global Zine project, it is globalzine.substack.com
and there you can find thelatest post which has a link to where
you can download the GlobalZine and see for yourself all the
(06:34):
amazing things that peoplecontributed to that because it was
such an amazing and beautiful project.
Yeah, I just wanted to keepyou up to date on this new direction
that I'm taking, and it's allabout making it easier for me to
share, connect and experimentwith all of you.
And I'd love to continuetalking to you, sharing with you,
(06:57):
experimenting with you, andjust having a really fun time standing
out as creatives, because Iknow that's what we're all trying
to do in this world, really.
So visit my substack, look outfor more episodes, and I'll see you
soon.
