(00:00):
The super Media Bros. Podcast isa founding member of the Odd Pods Media
Network. Isn't it wild? Howfar The Evil Dead actually reached as far
(00:46):
as influence? Not as wild tome as how like you can make it
anything, Like how it can translateinto anything, how fool proof the whole
concept is, and how it justsort of translates to whatever culture. Also,
welcome to the super Media Bros.Podcast, where two best friends give
(01:07):
comedically informative takes on movies, music, pro wrestling, and more. I'm
Richie Devin and we are rolling forwardin Spooky Media Bros. Twenty twenty three
with Episode two hundred and ninety six. This is a cult Cinema Saturday.
This week we are talking about BloodyMuscle, Bodybuilder and Hell aka The Japanese
Evil Dead. This is a veryuh short, but very packed movie that
(01:30):
is essentially a Japanese Red Telling remakewhatever you want to call it, of
the Evil Dead, and it's gotjust enough originality about it to kind of
separate it. But you can absolutelysee every bit of what they pulled from
The Evil Dead. Now, alittle bit of background before we jump into
the bulk of the film itself, because I've actually waited to tell you about
(01:53):
about a lot of the shit justbecause I watch your fucking like legit reaction
to this. So, the EvilDead was such a fucking huge hit overseas,
and a lot of Italian filmmakers wereinfluenced by a lot of this shit,
and it led to a lot ofunofficial sequels. I'm not sure if
(02:13):
you've ever heard of the film LacasaNo. Okay, Well that actually wound
up becoming like a seven film series, and it was, yeah, it
was an unofficial They were unofficial sequelsto the original Evil Dead. Are they
good? Okay? All right? But like imagine how you had all the
Italian zombie films that had come outwhere it was just like, okay,
these were supposed to be sequels tolike Night of the Living Dead and all
(02:36):
that whit. Okay, So youhave stuff like that, and then you
had shit like Evil Dead Trap. But you also had a lot of shit
that was in America, like theUnited States, that were that was made
like a Frostbier, wind Beast,Savage Harvest, Demon Wind Chill Factor,
like all these fucking movies that wereinfluenced by the Evil Dead. This one
(02:59):
fucking guy. I don't want tofuck his name up. Shinichi Fukuzawa is
the dude. He's to kind ofthrow it to a comedy bit. He's
kind of like the Japanese Tommy Waizoin this sense, because this motherfucker wrote,
directed, edited, shot, startin visual effects, Like the whole
(03:20):
fucking nine dude did this movie. He was the crew. He was the
guy, And it's kind of oneof those things where, yeah, you
can tell that, like it wasn'ta professional behind any of this, but
for one day they may do witheverything that they were given, like everything
(03:42):
that they had to work with Numbertwo, it was a distinct vision,
Like it was very unique. Likethere's some shots that it has this really
like analog horror esque filter over.It kind of gave it that kind of
vibe. Bro Oh, I fuckingloved that. I'll give you some history
behind all that shit. So innineteen ninety five, this is whenever he
(04:06):
had planned on doing this shit.Okay, he found out that his dad
was gonna be demolishing their old housein Tokyo, and so he was just
like, you know, I coulduse this to shoot this fucking movie in
And this is his debut feature,so it's like, okay, location on
lock he decides I'm gonna do allthis shit myself, and the budget was
(04:28):
kind of up in the air obviously, like if you've seen if anybody out
there has seen this movie, whichit's available on to Be to watch for
free, or it's available through VisualVengeance to buy, which I suggest buying
because it's it's fucking fun. Heshot this movie on eight milimeter. He
wanted to shoot on sixty millimeter ora betacam, but he had like no
fucking money to do this shit, and he had no like way of processing
(04:53):
dailies like right after shooting, sohe blindly went and shot the whole fucking
thing and it turns right, Butit turned out that the shit that he
shot didn't work at all, sohe had to scrap it and completely start
over again. But now he can'tget the people that he worked with to
be there consistently for the shoot. So much like The First Evil Dead,
(05:17):
how it took four fucking years tomake, and how they had to like
because you can visually see Bruce Campbellage in that movie. Yeah, yeah,
so they had to do like whatyou know, the Raimi and Campbell
and Rob Tappert universe referred to aslike the fake shimps, like you know
from fucking three Stooges they call anybodyhas to be a stand in, a
fake shimp or whatever. So Fukuzawahad to fucking shoot whatever he could with
(05:39):
what he had, and it tookhim another seven years to process and digitize
the footage, edit it at allthe post production effects in and then another
fucking two years until he could releaseit. So yeah, so all together,
seventeen fucking years to put this out. I would love to see it
before and after picture of this man, like the aging. He probably fucking
(06:03):
stress aged this entire time. Butwhat's really ridiculous is like you can see
where certain pickup shots happened in thismovie, and you can see him like
he's got like a clean shaven facein one shot a five o'clock shadow and
another again very parallel to Bruce Campbell, which makes this fucking work as a
remake of this movie. Not evenjust that, but his fucking facials,
(06:26):
like he looked like a Japanese BruceCampbell. He really fucking did. And
let's get into the movie, dude, because goddamn, okay, it opens
up with this guy which he playshis own father in this movie, because
it's supposed to be you know, years before or whatever. I love that
you immediately were like, bro thefit. Yeah, it's absolutely Bruce Campbell.
(06:49):
The thing is is like it wasalmost immediately apparent that he really did
look like him and had the manners. I mean, I didn't read anything
about this movie, but I canalmost guarantee that he spent hours in the
mirror practicing mimicking his facials, likeand reactions and things like that. Yeah,
(07:15):
and it's it's very obvious because hemakes them over and over again.
Yeah, over and over again, but almost to a tee though. It's
funny as hell. Oh yeah no. And and he gets the style of
humor that is in the Evil Deadfranchise. Yeah, there's like slapstick,
but it's like Japanese slapstick in away too, which is fucking great because
(07:38):
Japan, like the culture over there, there's like its own sense of humor
and it's very reaction based, right, And I fucking love that. So
Shinji who he plays a character namedShinji in this movie, which is the
main character. So in the nineteenseventies, his dad kills his lover that
is possessed by a ghost in thehouse, and it's reminists of Ash and
(08:01):
Linda. Yes, it is solike there's even some shots where she's licking
the knife that she fucking you know, tried to stab him with and all
this other stuff, and he windsup like quote accidentally killing her. And
it's the whole bit where Bruce Campbellbut you know, he had that necklace
that he gave Linda or whatever,so he like the necklace comes into play
where the spirit actually like goes intothe chain and it's a whole kind of
(08:26):
like shot for shot thing of likewhen Bruce Campbell's digging the grave outside of
the cabin, but they don't gooutside of the cabin. He's like,
you know what, I'm just gonnause this shovel and I'm gonna pry up
this to tommy floor and I'm gonnaax the shit out of the wood underneath
it, and we're just gonna we'rejust gonna bury her under the house.
That had to have been a resultof everybody being like, you want to
go outside and do this, No, everybody's gonna stare at us. We
(08:48):
live in the suburbs. Nobody thinkswe're shooting a movie here. It might
look like a snuff film, Like, well, yeah, fuck dude,
I can see why they did that. I I could too. It's just
it's funny because I imagine him goingoutside, like then they're shooting all this,
and like, the practical effects areso good in this at a lot
of points where I would have believed, like, bro, did I just
(09:11):
see this man burying this woman?Yeah? She did. No, it
was fucking cool. Though. Also, we've said a number of times that
we wish horror movies looked a littlebit more dirty and grimy and old and
shit, this perfect like And thething is is it came from Visual Vengeance.
(09:33):
Okay, that's who's distributing this.I looked at their website. It's
a gold mine of movies like this. So it's kind of like, what
the fuck you mean? I couldhave had exactly what I was asking for
the whole time, Like I justI didn't know about this. Yeah,
And what I think is funny aboutthis entire shit is that when we were
(09:54):
viewed Lost Faith, uh huh,I know, I know you remember that,
because like, unfortunately we had tofucking sit through that, which it
was fun. I fucking yeah,I say, unfortunately, it was a
lot of fun because I mean weput that with champagne and bullets, which
is another like catastrophe of a movie. That's great. So Lost Faith is
also a prime example of what thismovie is, which is the shot on
(10:15):
video genre where outru all these movieswere literally shot on vhs. Yeah,
so Visual Vengeance did a great jobin bringing this back, and it's still
gets much more of a clear likelook at it, but there's still very
much the roughness of it. That'swhat I love, that grainy like like
(10:37):
it's clear you know what you're lookingat at all times. But I just
love the aesthetic. Yeah I didtoo, And it gets a lot more
stylistically charged if you will, likeas the movie progressor which I fucking love.
So after the Spirit enters the chain, we just kind of cut to
the present, which if you don't, if you don't pay attention, like
(11:01):
you'll find out later that it's thefuture. But if you don't pay attention,
you're just like, man, thisguy really just killed this bitch and
now he's all happy and shit like, because because it's the same guy playing
you know, you know his son, and you're like, he just he
really just killed his fucking chick andnow he's all happy, and she's like,
what the fuck threw me off atfirst, which I had to laugh,
dude, because like it opens onShinjy just getting ripped. Yeah,
(11:24):
his fucking basement, in his house. Okay, if you're working out in
blue jeans, you're kind of atool. You're kind of a douchebag.
But for some reason, in amovie, whether it's action or horror,
if the dude is working out pumpingiron no shirt with blue jeans, for
some reason, it's like baller asfuck. I don't know why, but
(11:48):
it just looks cool on film.It looks trashy, but like but like
in that fucking way where you're justlike this, dude fucks, especially if
you got the fucking belt on withthe gen Oh, dude, that man
is slaying some cat and it turnsout that the chick that he's with they're
not even dating at this point, because they start walking like she calls it,
(12:09):
which, oh my fucking god,I forgot about this. This phone
is ringing, dude. There areno voicemail on that bitch. Hell no,
and like this is like nineteen ninetyfive. I'm assuming, like,
you know, some of these shotsare from ninety five, and then some
of them are probably from like ninetysix whenever he had to reshoot the fucking
ninety six. So you're you're speakingand like, well, what I'm saying
(12:31):
is the phone is like arcaic isshit comparatively speaking to what we have now.
But but I'm saying, like, was that not a thing back then?
No, it definitely was. Butwhat cracks me the fuck up is
that it's just taken forever and heknows it's ringing. He's got to get
his reps in. Boy, he'sjust looking at like he finally fucking picks
(12:52):
it up. And then we getintroduced to his girlfriend and she's walking with
him along this fence line and she'slike, oh, you know, so
what have you been up to?And he's just like, oh, I
quit my job, and she's likewhen he's like like a year ago,
and she's just like what the fuck? Like she's just looking at like,
so, what are you doing withyour life? He's like, I've just
(13:13):
been working on the basement for likesix months, and he's like flexibles,
He's like I've been working out againsteeand it's just like, dude, that
this is why she left Joe assesYeah for real, It's like, what
are you doing with your life backin nineteen ninety five, before like social
media influencing was a thing. It'slike, my boy, what are you
doing to pay rent? And that'sthe thing he talks about how he's like,
(13:37):
well, my parents passed away,and like I don't I don't really
have anything to do and I don'thave anybody to care for, but like
I'm working out. Like it wasat that moment I had to ask,
Okay, the title of this movieis that a direct translation? I'm pretty
fucking sure. It's just it's funnyas fuck. I love that. I
(14:01):
love that. He was just like, so I want to do a Japanese
Evil Dead. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's awesome. What
do you call it though? Becausethe Evil Dead is such a perfect title.
It's like, I don't know,body builder, bloody muscle, body
builder in hell? Okay, yeah, because the Evil Dead wasn't known as
the Evil Dead in certain markets. It was actually called Dance of the Devil
(14:24):
in certain markets too. Damn.Yeah. So, like there's a lot
of different shit. Probably there's probablya reason why he was like, oh,
bloody muscle bodybuilder, and hell, you never know, man, they
might have made reference to Bruce Campbell'schin over there, and he's just like,
well, I don't have the chin, but I've got the biceps,
so yeat, you know what I'msaying. A dead ass though. The
(14:48):
Evil Dead what a perfect title. It was supposed to be called the Book
of the Dead at first, butthen you know, the marketers were like,
that's not gonna sell really well, and he's like, I fuck whatever,
the Evil Dead whatever, And hedidn't like that time, but they
fucking went with and the rest isfucking history. As a parent with this
fucking movie. Yeah, So MicahIs is his girlfriend. So Micah is
(15:09):
a journalist and she's filming reports abouthanted houses and she remembers that his dad's
house like had like some paranormal shitgoing on there because he shows her like
this picture and it's just this bigface in the window, and I'm like,
bro, if I if I sawa window that big from that far
away. But the face that justtook the whole goddamn shit up to the
(15:31):
point where only have to fucking faceis able to fit in the window the
whole thing. Why would you goin there? Yeah? Like you know,
like some people are like very sensitiveto ship, like they see it
or whatever. But like if I'msitting there, going you see this ship
too? Right, Yeah, we'regoing there. Fucking Oh, I don't
want to go in there. Ohsome white people. Shit, but white
(15:52):
people, it fucking really is.Man, It's like, yeah, let's
go in there. Fuck it.Fucking Caucasian activities, U M. Goddamn.
But Shingi is a skeptic here,Okay, so he initially is like
fucking with her for wanting to takea medium in there. And as soon
as they get in there, youstart seeing like some more shots where like
(16:15):
when the door opens, it's almostthe same shot as whenever they opened the
cabin for the first time in thefirst Evil Dead right, camera angles and
everything. There's a lot of cameraangles, obviously influenced by Raymi. And
then the movie kind of kicks intogear right here. Not not that the
movie ever has any like lulls init, because, like you mentioned while
we were watching this, it's asixty two minute runtime, but there's no
(16:36):
time wasted in this call it someforty one because it's all killer, no
filler, I'm telling you, fuckman, Like, it's so much packed
in at such a rapid pace thatit's almost like, fuck, how long
is this goddamn move It's sixty twominutes. I'm telling you, dude,
it's not It's not a long fuckingfilm. And it feels longer than sixty
(17:00):
two minutes because so much happening.Yeah, but that's not to say that
it's boring or anything. It's justlike you just rethink all of the imagery
and the dialogue and everything is like, no, there's no way, it's
just over an hour, right,But when they go in the fucking house,
(17:21):
the medium is the only one thatactually notices that there's a spirit in
the fucking house. And he getsknocked out by a fucking clock that just
falls off the wall and he justyou just hear, fucking he's just like
and he just falls the fuck downand he wakes up in the No,
(17:42):
dude, it's so ridiculous. Ifucking love anything from Japan that does that.
Shit. I don't know why,it's the reaction shit, yeah,
dude, So he he wakes upin the car that's out there, and
he becomes possessed by the spirit ofthe Father's lover, and this is where
(18:03):
the whole shit, just everything fuckingensues from here. So like the house
starts like this is all the EvilDead references, where like the doors are
locking on their own, the windowsare shutting, the doors are shutting,
and then the medium, which Ilove the makeup effects where it slowly goes
from his natural skin cone to likethis real bluish gray hue all over him,
(18:26):
which it's makeup obviously, but dude, he's like fucking with him real
bad, like giggling the whole fuckingtime, and like beating that shit out
of him. He's like like tryingto stab him with a knife. And
oh, there's a reference to whenShelley gets stabbed in The Evil Dead and
she's like screaming for that really prolongedperiod of time. I'm surprised to say
(18:48):
this. I enjoyed some of thedigital blood that they did. I did
too, because it's very charming.Like they didn't do a lot of the
CG because like they couldn't afford hecouldn't afford to do it a lot.
But like the little bit that wasdone. I think it's also in conjunction
with how the film grain was andhow really low budget it is is what
(19:14):
makes it charming because there's a lotof visual effects like combined in posts like
there's there's shots where he had touse like still imagery and then put like
you know, filming, like ahand coming up into the frame over a
still imagery just to make it looklike this chick's like eating like flash and
dude, that was one of thecoolest shots I've I saw it like that.
(19:37):
I was really enjoying this feels likeand it was like obviously a shot
in the nineties and shit, butlike, is it weird to say that,
Like some of this stuff felt likea very extremely low budget tool music
video and certain shots I can seethat. Yeah, I was trying to
pinpoint it. Like I said,it gives me analog horror vibes. That's
(19:59):
e exactly like the subgenre that itdoes teeter on like with the shot on
video vibes for yeah, shot onvideo and plus like like you said,
like it's a steal image but thensomething actually moving that but it's like layered
over or under it, and theydo it so sparingly that it's kind of
(20:21):
like when it does happen, youappreciate it if you made a whole movie
about that. It get old fast, but it almost like grabs your attention
because you forget, Oh yeah, they do this effect using it sparingly,
with all the splatter effects that werefucking done by hand. Mind you like
(20:41):
a lot of this shit, likeeven there is some stop motion stuff here
and there too. Again, that'swhat makes it fucking charming is that they
mixed it up so well and didn'tfeel like a one trick pony, and
it didn't feel like, oh,they're reusing this gag or they're doing this.
It's like, dude, there's somuch shit happening. Yeah, you
know, there's even the references towhen he has to ax him up.
(21:03):
But what cracks me up is whenthey start getting towards the end of the
film. But we'll talk about thatwhen we come back from our break.
You're listening to the super Media Brosand the Odd Pods Media Network don't go
anywhere. Once upon a time boring. It was the best of times.
It was the worst. You gotthat right, what's your problem? We
(21:26):

(21:52):
back half of this. So hewinds up seeing the ghost of his dad.
Shinji sees the ghost of his father, right, and this is kind
of a direct pull from Professor Nobyshowing up an evil Dead two, which
I should point out that even thoughthis movie is influenced by the first film,
it absolutely pulls like some elements ofthe second film with the decapitated head
(22:12):
of the medium having a hand underits neck like running it around the room,
and shit, he must have pumpedthis fucker full of like seventy shotgun
shells at one point. Bro.It was to the point where I was
like, you gotta forgive it atsome point, but yeah, like you
want to forgive it, but alsocontinuity management. Yeah, but he probably
(22:33):
wasn't thinking. He's probably like,I gotta get this fucking movie finished,
do you think like, and I'mnot trying to seem like a know it
all, but do you think heknew that shotguns only hold so many rounds
or do you think he thought itwas just like a pistol. I mean,
this particular shotgun probably could hold likea few shells at a time,
(22:55):
but not as many as he wasjust firing off. But I mean,
that's neither here nor there. Atthis point, it's just the funniest shit.
Everything's like it's like it's like DukeNukem levels of unloading a fucking shotgun
into somebody for real, which hedoes like a couple of the lines like
groovy and like yeah in English mindoh yeah, yeah yeah, and like
come get some and all this othershit. Baby you know dad, I
was about to say baby, yeah. And then when he says groovy,
(23:17):
he's groovy, Like you know whathe said, It was so fucking great.
He said it with a little extraseventies. Yeah, he's like groovy.
It's like, yeah, dude. But he gets visited by the ghost
of his father and he fucking gotthe crack up right here. So the
dad is like it's pulled, likehow Professor Nobe visits from evil dead too,
(23:38):
and the fucking dad is like sittingthere. He's just like, this
woman is out of her mind. You have to kill her. She tried
to kill me and I accidentally killedher and she's pissed off and blah blah
blah, she's crazy. And I'mlike, you gaslighting mother fuck her.
I know you were breaking up withher and she fucking was possessed that ship's
(24:02):
fire. Dude, you just sitthere like this. It's just crazy as
hell. And and like the Sun'slike, oh huh, yeah, okay,
I know what I have to do. And she's like, you just
serve to fucking die. You gasledthis, not dude, He's gonna be
immortal in that fucking TV. Iforgot he was in the TV when that
shit happens. Like, bro, like looking like a fucking zord on.
I'm you had to filter on andeverything. She fucking popped up Rangers.
(24:27):
Yeah, like SHINGI probably said, there the fuck is this fucking awesome?
Dude A bit about right too, because the Power Rangers were out like in
Big during that time. Oh mygod, that's fucking hilarious. That's probably
what he was doing. Because yougotta realize super SIMPI. I was like,
that was yeah, he's probably like, dude, let's let's fucking mix
(24:51):
all of this Jesus Christ. ButI have nothing to base that on,
by the way, that's just anassumption. Yeah, And I mean there's
like some hell Raiser references and likethe thing from Another World references. But
my god, that's fucking hilarious.Like his fuck Zordad there you go.
Yeah, dude, like fucking Zordad. That's fucking sick. Oh my god.
(25:12):
So he's like, oh, she'sfucking crazy. He's like, all
right, cool whatever. So hedismembers the body doesn't do shit. He
fucking shoots at a bunch, doesn'tdo shit. And then he's like,
yeah, the only the only thingthat can destroy the ghost is in the
basement of the house. And thismotherfucker Shinji realizes it's my muscles and my
(25:32):
dumbbells. Bruh. Fuck. Itwas at this moment I was like,
Yeah, I'm buying something from thiscompany because if all of the movies are
like this, count me in.I literally got excited watching you watch this
because y'all like, between like Devinand I this, this dude is in
like the this dude is in gymshape. Okay, like I'm losing weight,
(25:55):
but this dude's in fucking Jim shape. So I'm laughing my ass off
because, like, I see thelight in this man's eyes when this motherfucker
starts being like it's my muscles andhe fucking flexes and the shirt is ripping.
I can see this dude just fuckingshedding a tear and getting a fucking
erection at the same time. He'sjust fucking like, oh, dude,
(26:15):
I'm like, that's a man. He's sitting there watching it, saying this
shit, fucking crying, fucking boner, pulling this fucking website up, Like
I'm fine, every goddamn movie onthis website, I've never seen you this
app yet my fucking life watching somegarbage shit because it's the stupid at shit
known to man. But it's alsojust like, dude, this is the
(26:37):
kind of content I live for.I'm so glad we're doing this movie for
fuck's sake. This ship is fuckinggass. Dude, it's fun as hell,
man, like, because he doesall this flexing shit, he rips,
his shirt just comes off, andhe's just he's still just like I'm
flexing and he's like muscles, andhe's just like there's smoke billowing into the
(26:59):
room fucking nowhere. He's just likeripped his ship. So he rolls up
into the house portion out of thebasement with a with a barbell fucking weight
plates. That one he just fuckingthrows into this bitch's face like so hard
as dude, fucking Captain America, that bitch Jesus fucking knocks the pits out
of her. And he's got thebarbell strapped to his back and and a
(27:22):
shotgun. Then he's got like thiscrossbow which he fucking takes the barbel and
and pulls it back in and firesit through this chick's fucking mouth, which
she looks like a muppet at thispoint. Dude, like you've been beat
that like the dead eye of youknow, the fucking Priests has been beat
top fuck. I would love aMuppets remake of The Evil Dead, but
(27:48):
only Bruce Campbell is the one thatstays the same. Yeah, yeah,
exactly. Oh, I forgot hisgirlfriend gets bit and possessed, and I
swear we've watched the most disgusting fuckingshit before. But like your reaction to
when he sucks that shit out ofher neck. Well, it wasn't the
fact that he sucked it out.It was whenever he spit it out.
It's like it's like a water, but it was like this purple, grayish
(28:12):
black like I don't know what itwas. But the very next shot was
like a wound with puss, andI was like, oh, that's fine.
But the shot before where he wasspitting out like this weird like almost
velvet water, And for some reasonwhen he spit it out, I just
got this weird, uncomfortable feeling.I don't know. It looked like dirty
(28:37):
dishwater without the SuDS. Yeah,it just something about it just kind of
it made my skin crawl. Yeah, it was. It was pretty fucking
disgusting, honestly, I will admitthat. Like, and then the puss
shot, like that's the thing. It's like all the visual effects. It
looked gross, like he had likethe guts and the meat that was coming
(28:57):
out of this motherfucker. Oh ohgod. I can handle puss. Though.
Maybe it's because before bed sometimes Iwatch pimple popping videos. Dude,
I know so many people that watchdoctor pimple pop it's so satisfying. I
know people find that shit fascinating andsatisfied at the same time. Yeah,
maybe it's because of that, ormaybe also because like it's puss and blood.
(29:18):
I know what that is? That'snatural? That that weird liquid,
that's not natural? What the fuckis that? Correct? Yeah? I
get that. So he winds updestroying the demon with fucking dumb bells.
He he basically just curve stomps thisbitch with a fucking plate and her eyeballs
pop out and there's teeth in fuckingblood and shit everywhere, and you're just
(29:41):
like, what the fuck you pumpthis fucker full of lead? You axed
it? But any I'm talking likeblue half its face off, But you
know, I'm gonna stomp it,and that that's what's gonna do it.
I'm gonna fucking stomp it because,uh, once the priest fucking dies,
it's this chick. It's just thelover that just takes full form because she
(30:04):
comes out of the fucking the chainor whatever, and he sucks the venom
or of the poison or whatever outof Mica and she's okay or Mica she's
okay, And the ending shot ispretty much like how the originally again How
the Evil Dead was where Ash walksoutside and it's like daylight and ship you
(30:25):
couldn't see shit into or out ofthe house because the windows were all boarded
up and shit, so you couldn'ttell if it was nighttime or daytime while
you're in the house. And thefirst thing I thought was how jarring would
it be to like, like, cause the studio we're sitting in right now,
like our home studio, there's nolight coming into the room. And
(30:47):
if you just stayed in here, you wouldn't know if it was like day
or night if you didn't look ata clock. Yeah, imagine just we're
in here for I don't know howlong. Then you just walk outside say,
oh fuck is daytime? Jesus Christ, Like it blinds a piss out
of you that that's actually happened. That one time we did uh Verrotica.
Oh my fucking god, yeah weokay, so go back and listen to
(31:11):
this episode. This was like aproto supermedia Brothers right now where uh we
we did Veronica versus Cradle of Fear, and dude, we did that at
five in the fucking morning, becauselike you showed up at eight o'clock that
night. We'd been and record untilprobably like close to like four thirty five
o'clock because we watched both movies backto back and bullshitted for like hours.
(31:32):
Yeah, because at the time,I was going through a breakup and I
just needed to just get so muchshit off my chest, Like I had
a fucking full blown therapy session inyour kitchen, and you were just like
it's gonna be all right, man. So anyway Cradle of Fear, and
I'm like, not now, yougotta admit that that was that took your
(31:55):
mind off of it. Lott,It did it did? I figured.
So they leave the house and it'slike daytime and that's the end of the
movie. Like they're walking on andthey're like, oh God, Like I
could tell that dude was just like, fuck, it's daytime, Jesus.
How long were we in there?Probably like days. They were probably in
there for like fucking days. Andthen the movies, I mean, the
movie ends and it's over with beforeyou really know it. The way you
(32:16):
looked at me like when it ended, I was like, this did his
job. I'm happy you enjoyed itas much as you did. I figured
you would, but like, Iknow, it's kind of hit or miss
with some of the movies that wewatched, because like, honestly, we
either like we really enjoy all theshit we talk about, but it is
fun to trash some when it itneeds roasted. You know, this movie
(32:38):
is definitely roastable in certain ways. But I appreciate it, and I know
you do too. I appreciate thefuck out of the grind that this motherfucker
put into making and getting this outbecause when it initially got released in twenty
twelve, dude, it was onfucking dvdrs. Wow, yeah, only
a hundred. He only had ahundred on DVDR. Then he found a
(33:01):
production company that put the movie instores in twenty fourteen and it was,
oh, it was kind of successfulin Japan, and then they had an
international release in twenty seventeen with TerraCotta Distribution out of the United Kingdom,
and then there was like a DVDrelease in twenty eighteen, but like,
it literally was not until Visual Vengeancegot a hold of it and put it
out last year that we have likethe cleanest looking cut of this film and
(33:24):
the most widely distributed copy of thisfilm and it deserves to be fucking seen.
It absolutely is a cult film.It is one DIY to a T
again. I love the fact thatthis dude just he went he fucking went
through it to get this put out. Man. Yeah, he did,
(33:45):
and it came out pretty fucking cool. Like I enjoyed it. I did
too. It's definitely a movie tocollect. Like, if you're a film
collector and you like stuff like this, it belongs on your shelf, then
it should be watched every fucking Octoberat least every October. Come back next
(34:06):
week, we're gonna be talking aboutGhosts Opus Eponymous, which is their debut
album on Rise Above Records. Ifeel like this is one of those albums
that is fitting for a spooky monthbecause of all of their albums, I
feel like it is the most evil. Yeah, I could see that,
and then we won't see you guysafter that until actual Halloween Day. Like,
(34:28):
it's not gonna be a Saturday release. We're actually going to release this
episode on the thirty first of October. It is the Five Nights at Freddy's
movie from Bloemhouse, which has beenin the works for fucking years. It
will premiere on Peacock and theaters atthe same time. So if you want
to watch that movie in the theatersor watch it in the comfort of your
own house and then check our reviewout on Halloween, fucking do it.
(34:52):
So that's what we got rolling outfor you guys for the rest of this
month. Also, I should note, because it is a big fucking deal
our three hundred that pisode is comingup in November. God damn, I
