The super Media Bros. Podcast isa founding member of the Odd Pods Media
Network. Not surprisingly, this gotso many negative reviews, but I kind
(00:45):
of expected it to because it's aniche thing and not everybody's gonna get it.
Yeah. I'm actually very much lookingforward to this review because we have
not spoken a word about our opinionson it. You have been in the
trenches with this game for years, and I knew not a goddamn thing.
Welcome to the super Media Bros.Podcast, where two best friends give comedically
(01:07):
informative takes on movies, music, pro wrestling, and more. I'm Ritchie
Devin. This is the end ofSpooky Media Bros. Twenty twenty three.
Happy Halloween and all that other shitbecause this is this is Halloween Day,
and typically our last episode of themonth drops on Halloween, because god damn
it, what better way to endup with Five Nights at Freddy's. The
movie based on the video game franchiseof the same name. I fucking actually
(01:29):
loved this A Loto man, allright, let me get the shield Dog.
I was so fucking lost the wholeway through. It's okay, all
right, So I was actually watchingit with a group of friends and all,
but like one loves the games andso I recognize when things were Easter
(01:51):
eggs. For the most part, there were a couple of things that because
they were just watching the movie, they got quiet, and that instance.
There were moments like supposedly I didn'trealize until later on Golden Freddy they had
said the name. I assumed itwould be Golden and so whenever almost to
the end credits, I was like, wait, if that bear was here,
(02:15):
then I'm did I doze off?Why is he damaged now? Like
I thought it was the same fuckingFreddy. You know, little things like
that kind of lost in translation.Yeah, he taught all the animatronics that
are just shoved off in the backand they're just parts on the ground,
and shit, see that I understood. Those were little Easter eggs, nothing
more, nothing less. But I'mtalking like specifically when Golden Freddy went to
(02:38):
the house and all that stuff. But then when they got back to the
actual restaurant, my man's was stillvibing. Again. Spoilers about on everybody
for Fox's sake. The movie andthe video games are similar and a little
different. Like everybody was like,oh, they changed the Lord, and
I'm like, they really didn't changevery much about it. They were just
like small mm hmm, like smalldetails here and there. The whole thing
(03:00):
about the children being in the suitsis not something they got really changed.
It's it's it's something that's referred toin the games quite often. They even
made reference to it with the bigreveal at the end, which a lot
of people sadly got spoiled for themjust reading casting, which I think is
fucked up, because yeah, itdoes. They would. Well. I
avoided anything. I avoided anything forthis movie because I wanted to see what
(03:23):
it was like, because typically Ican't avoid spoilers because I run our social
medias and that shit is everywhere, right, Yeah, And I can't believe
that I did, you know,as long as I did. I watched
this at home. I didn't gosee this. My son actually went to
go see this in theaters and wejust watched it again this morning, and
he loved it. And he's ahuge finanial fan, so I figured if
(03:46):
anybody was gonna be as hard onthis movie like, it would be him,
and he fucking loved it. Hewas just like, dude, they
he was like, if anything theytook it and made its own thing with
what they did change. He saidit was pretty fucking faithful. Which it
was pretty goddamn faithful to the games. Like I said, just a few
things here and there were different, not by very much though, So listening
(04:06):
to you talk about it, Idon't know, it's kind of poetic in
a where weird way, very aproposbecause I was talking to a coworker shout
out to Aubrey Youston, and wewere talking about this movie and everything,
and she had said, yeah,I'm looking it up right now, and
oh god, the reviews on ronTomatoes are horrible, and I was like,
(04:29):
I don't go based off of thatanymore because so many movies I love
get lost in translation with them.Batman Vus Superman I'm unapologetic about. And
it's funny that I brought it upbecause after that movie ended, I felt
the same way that people that don'tread comic books felt with that movie,
because it was such a if youknow, you know kind of movie the
(04:54):
whole fucking way through, because Icould tell that something was going on,
like what the dreamsequences? Yeah?Uh, they they were talking about,
like, Oh, that's what thisis blah blah blah blah, he probably
doesn't know what it is. AndI was like, I think I get
it because that kid's got bunny ears. That kids got the hook, Like
I was picking it up, butI wasn't fully grasping objectively. If you
(05:18):
cut out everything that is related to, oh, you don't know the games,
just looking at it as a movie, I do think that there is
way too much going on. Youmean, if you do, you feel
like it would have been confusing foranybody that like is like you, I
don't think you're brand new because youknew of it, But anybody that has
literally never heard of fuck all todo with this would be just like,
what the hell's happening. My onlyidea of it was that a lot of
(05:42):
kids played it, so I ridiculouslyassumed that it was a children's game.
Uh. It wasn't until like peoplewere saying, what do you mean it's
not rated R? And I waslike, wait, what, it didn't
need to be rated R. No, God, there's so much to go
into here. I'm just saying like, I feel like this should have been
a very simple movie. I wouldhave done without all of the subplots,
(06:04):
like which ones damn near all ofthem. No, but but there's a
point to this, which subplots thesister, the custody battle, the uh
missing brother, the like. Tome, this could have this could have
been a five film pun intended series, and each one builds onto the varying
(06:27):
subplots. This should have been justa very simple security guard got fucked into
this situation. Maybe he's actually trapped, like he can't get out and he
spends five nights there. That's howI would have done it, cut out
all of the subplots, because asit stands, this is an over hour
and a half movie, and it'scalled five Nights at Freddy's, and it's
(06:51):
really thirty minutes at Freddy's. Heactually does spend a few days there.
It just didn't feel like I knewthat because of the the timeline, and
he kept going to sleep and everythinglike I recognized it. It was just
like it didn't feel like I don'tknow, I just kept waiting for more.
(07:12):
No, I don't think you havethis movie without the subplots. I
have a few reasons why, soI'll get into them as we go through.
First of all, if it's notbad enough that the main antagonist of
this movie murdered the shit out ofthese kids to find out that this dude
has been trying to keep this becausethat's the thing is, like, how
else do you explain this fucker keepingthis job? Why would anybody take this
(07:36):
job? Right, he's troubled, obviously, he's got shit going on.
Anybody with that much shit going andneeds a fucking job. He's got the
relationship he has with his sister, because that's what's driving him to do what
he's doing. That's true. Givingthe PTSD that he's got from losing his
little brother and how he finds outhe's gone and who he lost him to,
(07:58):
that all culminates together. And abig spoiler is a Boalon. Everybody
like three to one. Matthew Lillardis your big bad guy here playing William
Afton, but he's under the guys. Oh absolutely, he's under the guys
of a job slash guidance counselor forJosh Hutcherson's character, which you know again
if you didn't realize that was gonnabe the big bad and the character of
(08:18):
Vanessa I don't believe is his daughterin the video game series. She is
a police officer slash security guard thathad to do with Fanaffe like Forever Ago
or the Freddye Fasbera's Pizza Rea,But making that his daughter was a big
deal. It kind of added likemore of an element to the drama.
But finding out that the little brotherwas one of the victims of William Afton
(08:41):
is a big fucking deal. BecauseMatthew Lillard is so beloved as a person,
it's hard to picture him as abad guy. In fact, I
said during watching this, it's niceto see him play a villain again because
he's good at it. But theway in which he did it was fucking
just It's gross because where everybody's like, who should have been a rated R
movie? Didn't need to be PGthirteen, Where was the gore? First
of all, games didn't have asmuch gore as you think they did.
Our your imagination did that for you, and that's important. Secondly, that
(09:05):
is the horror of this movie,is what this man did to these fucking
kids. Yeah, and that isone thing that I really loved and wish
that they would spend even like acouple more minutes on because we always say
like, oh, I had fiveten minutes here, really and truly,
Like, if it's exclusively this element, two minutes will go a long way.
(09:26):
Two minutes of just them explaining, like, dog, there are actual
like ghostly spirits in these animatronics andit's like a rotten, decaying corpse in
there that's just mangled and gross.Like that's all stuff that I know they
touched on, but I just,dude, I would have I maybe it's
(09:48):
the Serial Killer documentary viewer in me, but dude, I could have gone
for so much of just that becausethat was sick and it was unexpected.
I didn't know about it. That'sthe whole thing. This is definitely something
to watch. It's one thing Iwant to say is that I think it's
a very good gateway for kids intohorror. Yes, it feels like a
(10:09):
Goosebumps sort of. I was gonnasay this is like Goosebumps. Sorry,
afraid of the dark and a lotof a lot of people that's like I've
seen people be like, this moviewas so terrible. It's the worst thing.
I said this on our social mediaand I'm going to say it again
right here. This was If you'rea horror movie fan, this was not
made for you. This was notmade for you. This was made for
five nights at Freddy's fans, andI think it delivered on every goddamn thing
(10:33):
that it was going to do.Now, Josh Hutcherson plays Mike Schmidt,
who is the security guard at FastBear's Pizza, which he gets this job
because we open up on him havinglike a security guard job anyway, and
he chases this dude down in amall. Who he It looks like he's
kidnapping this child. Yeah, andthis is where you like, well,
what the fuck? Like, Okay, sure that might have been a little
(10:56):
extreme what he did, but whenyou find out why he's doing what he's
doing, these subplots make you haveemotional attachment to these characters. If we
just said here's stupid bumble butt fuckoff in a security suit getting harassed by
animatronics for five days, sure weget the video game aspect, but there's
really nothing to invest in emotionally here. I think at that point people would
(11:18):
want it to be are because thenit's kind of like with Terrifier, and
you just want to see them doreally fucked up shit, and what you
don't see them do is even morefucked up because what little that you do
see them, do your like there, I actually had a holy shit moment.
Is it the eating? Yes,yeah, yeah, and so again
we'll get to that in a minute. But he's having what we think is
(11:39):
a friend of his watch his sisterbecause he's got custody of his little sister
while he's you know, at thisjob which he gets put there by a
career counselor, Steve Raglan, whois played by Matthew Lillard, and he
offers him the job at fas Bear'sPizza and he only accepts the job because
Social Services is threatened to take custodyof his sister and give them to their
(12:01):
aunt, who is a fucking bitch. Yes, and she's played by Mary
Stuart Masters in which I was actuallyreally shocked to see her in this because
like she's been in some fucking oscarwinners. Bro, Like she wasn't fucking
like fried green tomatoes and shit, and I'm like, bro, she's she's
a total cunt in this movie. You can tell that she earned those oscars
honestly, because like she looked atwhat the source material was, who the
(12:24):
target audience was and everything, andshe felt like the same way that uh,
Bela Lugosi felt in Dracula where it'slike everybody's talking all campy and everything,
and she's just and this bitch chewingthe scene. R. That's what
I'm saying. And then you getto Bella Lagosi and he's like, no,
I'm not doing Broadway, I'm actingfor a motion picture. Her she
(12:46):
everybody was taking this so deathly seriously, and she almost felt like she was
like, I wouldn't say hamming itup, but she was more like felt
like she had more uf she wasover delivering the best way. Yes,
and we need more of that, honestly in horror. Yeah, especially something
that you need emotional attachment and investmenttoo. I don't even remember how long
(13:09):
into the movie her character appeared whereI was like, I hope she gets
fucking got. I was like,I hope she gets fucking murked. And
then you got what was the dude'sname, Doug. The lawyer was a
Doug. Oh that poor bastard.Yeah, bruh. That motherfucker just did
not want to be there. Ifeel like, Okay, correct me if
I'm wrong. This is what Igot out of it. I feel like
he was all of us as theoutside viewer and where we're like, this
(13:33):
is uncomfortable. I do not wantto be here now that you're saying it,
because I'm gonna, okay, fulldisclosure to everyone. Not only have
I never played a fucking game, never even saw game play, but also
I was at a Halloween party andI just started munching on food and then
finally they were like, Devin, did you eat the twinkies with the vanilla
or the chocolate? And I waslike the chocolate, duh. So I
(13:56):
was fucked up on edibles during thismovie, filled with lure and from something
that I have no idea what thesource material is. What the fuck happened
to the lawyer liked because whenever Ifirst saw him, I was like,
is this a fever dream? Whatis this movie? And then later on
he goes, I'm a lawyer.I shouldn't be here, blah blah blah.
(14:18):
Did he die? Did we seehim again? Did he leave?
I'm pretty sure he left, dude, because okay, because I I missed
that and I was like, whatis happening in this movie? My man's
was slow key trying to take notesin this bitch, I think, and
like, I'm telling you because likeI was. It was so caught up
with all right, I got todo a review on this, all right,
(14:39):
I'm trying to watch this objectively, all right, I'm trying to keep
up with all the lower because Idon't know who anybody in this is.
Okay, I'm listening to all myfriends kind of talk about it, and
I'm picking things up as I'm goingalong. Okay, what what what?
What is this plot? Wait? What is that plot? Wait? What
(15:00):
what's going on? Like dude, and I tell you, it was so
fucking much. Yep, boy wasover stimmied that scene in particular, because
there's a couple of cameos from someYouTubers in this movie that I totally forgot
that was happening. I did pickup on that. Yeah, good for
them. Yeah. By the way, well, Mark Plier was supposed to
(15:20):
be the security guard the beginning.Yeah, that would have been so cool,
but he was filming Iron Lung sohe couldn't do it, and which
that would have been fun. Butmad Pat was the Sparky's diner waiter,
which Sparky the name Sparky is actuallya discarded slash like deleted character from the
Finaffe universe. Like that was anentirely different character that they just never used,
(15:43):
which I think is funny. Yeah, and his appearance got a big
pop out of the room that Iwas in, because I mean he even
said the thing. Yeah, that'swhat I was gonna say. Is apparently
it went over my head, buthe had said like a catchphrase or something
like yep, it's just a theoryor something like that. Yeah. Yeah.
And Corey Kinchin showed up as acab driver later. Oh wow,
okay, yeah yeah. So andand those two are along with Jack scept
(16:07):
the Guy and Mark Marketplier, theyare known for being fanaffe players. If
anything, Marketplier I think was thebiggest loss for this movie because he is
probably the most well known Fanaffe YouTubeplayer. Like. So, yeah,
because like they after the movie endedand everybody was talking about it, they
were like, oh, yeah,so it's a show such and such as
(16:27):
cameo and all that other stuff. And at the time, aside from the
diner, I didn't know who theywere referring to or when, but I
was like, dude, that's fuckingcool for them, though, right,
really awesome. And it's at thatdiner we get like the next little bit
of plot, which again this goesback to me saying we really need this
plot because the animatronics are not immediatelylooking at they're not immediately labeled as bad
(16:55):
guys per se, although they dohave intentions later on that are a little
revealed. We also find out thatthey're blinded by a specific thing that they
are not aware of, which againwe'll get to. But the aunt is
paying off the friend who's been watchingAbby, which this is fucked up.
She has been watching her to spyon Mike to get her like details on
(17:18):
Oh well I can use this againsthim and all this other shit. And
she's like, well, you haven'tfound anything other than he's good to the
kid and he's fucking doing his shithe's supposed to do him. So she's
like, you know, we'll justwe'll fuck up his job. And so
they send the dude that she's withat the diner and two of his friends
to go fuck this fas Bear's dinerup, and they do. But you
kind of needed that to get someof the first kills from the animatronics outside
(17:45):
of that first security guard. Now, this kind of leads to the holy
shit moment that I had where thesefuckers get marked greatly because I fucking love
the way they did it, andthe animatronics from Jim Henson's Creature Shop were
fucking oh dude, they looked incredible. They couldn't have done any better.
And that's another thing that I dowant to mention real fast is I think
(18:08):
that the set design, the characterdesign, and everything was so faithful,
yet they made it feel like thiswas an actual place. At the same
time, I kind of got thatfeeling because like this is coming from somebody,
like I said, never played, but hearing everybody being like, oh
dude, that looks just like thegame, you know, Like I kept
hearing that, so I was likemaking mental notes of like, okay,
(18:30):
so this was this part's well done. That part's well done. Like I
want you to go, like tonot even to follow up on this,
because I know they're gonna do asequel, but like when we do that,
definitely go check out some of marketPlier's playthroughs of it, because he
gives probably the most detail. Hascracked the lore of everything playing the games
like an intelligent the lore of thestory, and you get really great looks
(18:52):
at all the locations because the game'stime jump a little bit, because there
is a story that goes all theway back to like the late seventies,
in the early eighties, and shit, this this franchise and the look of
the entire interiors of the pizzeria,it's very much based on like Chuck E.
Cheese, the Celebration Station, anykind of chain indoor family event center
(19:15):
that revolved around pizza, you knowduring that era. Very well done.
Also, the movie was set intwo thousand. I was going to bring
that up because you had said timelinesand it made me remember that I saw
that on the security footage. Doesthat mean anything in the game's Lord,
Yes, because the first five minutesat Freddy's is in nineteen ninety eight.
(19:37):
There is an incident referred to asI if I fucked this up. I
know the fan base is going tofucking murder me, but there I feel
like I'm already a red flag targetfor them right now. Well, no,
the thing, okay, so thething is is like I promise we're
going to the movies and shit, but I need, I feel the need
to bring this lure up for fuckingreasons. Okay. Yeah. The Bite
(20:00):
of eighty three nineteen eighty three. The Bite of eighty three is a thing
where a kid was killed by oneof the animatronics at the facility. And
basically this kid was bullied by hisfriends and his brothers over his fear of
this place, and he is hewants up being the protagonist of one of
(20:21):
the video games. Oh so that'show far back in lare in time.
This goes as far as like thispizzeria has had issues and fucking incidents for
years, but with this one, they did it very well with William Afton's
role, because it was all inthe game. It's rumored that the victims
(20:41):
of the kids, like well thebodies of the victims, being the kids
that he killed, were shoved insidethese animatronics, like just stuffed to hide
the evidence basically because who the fuckwould they even said in the movie,
who the fuck's gonna look at achildren's pizzeria? Yeah, for the evidence
and shit, But that's pretty muchwhat killed the business off. That's why
its because all the rumors got toit and they shut it down, and
(21:03):
he kept it open because I mean, for Fox's sake, it's his baby.
Basically. Now anyway that they're fuckingthis location up and the holy shit
moment arrives when his babysitter Max,she goes looking for the dudes after they're
getting fucking killed, and she comesacross Freddy and she's like, what the
fuck? And she puts a chairdown and gets like within, like face
(21:26):
to face of him. Then yousee a handclaw come out and grab her.
Then you see the shadow of hergetting pulled into its mouth and you
hear a chomp, and then theycut back like away from the shadow and
you see like a bloody bottom halfof her body just fucking hit the floor.
And I was like, holy shit, because first of all, very
well done. Yes, that's gonnascare the fucking shit out of some kids
(21:48):
that are watching this. I fuckinglove it. It's funny because like,
uh, we were all talking, and the general consensus in the group was
it's not the fact that it's pagethirteen. It's a fact that you can
see where it didn't need to belike almost like they were like, hey,
keep them mind this pg thirteen, you know, And so they were
(22:10):
trying to I don't want to saycut the balls off of themselves, but
you see what I'm saying here, right. The thing is, though,
if that was R. That shockvalue gone, And that's my entire point.
Yeah, like to anybody, couldI agree with you, But like
anybody out there, there's good you'vebeen rated R nah, dude, because
a lot of the death and alot of the shock factor hits much harder
when you're not expecting it. You'relike, well this movie can so PG.
(22:32):
Thirteen. Holy. That's why Idid a holy shit, right,
because I was like, fuck,I was, I wasn't expecting it.
It's just like with the Watchmen comicbook, dude, where uh, it's
very subtly violent throughout the whole thing, and then you get to the Squid
and it's panel after panel of justcarnage and gore. Right, that's what
makes that that whole chapter so chilling. Yeah, is because the whole time
(22:59):
you didn't you live in that worldso to speak. I mean you did,
but just not as extreme. Sothat is one thing that I will
say, Like to the director's credit, it's such a fascinating movie to me
because I've been deep diving in reviewsand listening to takes on it from both
(23:22):
gamers and just film critics alike, and it really is split down the middle.
You can definitely tell without even listeningto the intro to each video or
review who played the games, becauseI think it's a lot like with me,
where the reviewers of just movies arecompletely confused and lost. And I
(23:48):
mean that that's another reason why Iwas like, this was not made for
horror fantasy, Like this is onehundred aimed at like the consumers of this
franchise, and there's enough of them, I mean, for they came out
of the woodwork when we did ourDamn Willy's Wonderland review. Yes, and
and I do love that movie.Same sick, same, but yeah,
(24:08):
Like, As the movie progresses, more of the story is unfolding, where
Mike is dreaming nightly about the eventin which his brother was stolen. He
doesn't know who did it, andthat's in his dream that he he can't
remember exactly who it was that didit, and he's trying, and he
keeps seeing these children that are hauntinghis dreams. But the children show up
(24:30):
when he's at the pizzeria, andwe come to find out that these are
the souls of the children that weremurdered by the owner of this place.
And they keep referring to a yellowrabbit. And as soon as they said
that, I mean, obviously Iknow the laur and shit, But as
soon as they were talking about,oh, the yellow rabbit, the ollow
rabbit, I was like, motherfucker, that is spring trap spring Bonnie,
Like that is like the suit thatWilliam Afton was wearing to fucking kill him
(24:55):
and shit, So I knew thatwas gonna happen at some point. The
way it happens later is fucking brilliant. But again, this all kind of
goes into the whole you know, story of Mike and everything, which you
know, I want people to watchand get into that on their own,
but eventually it it comes out thereVanessa knows about more than she's letting on.
(25:17):
And when you were referring to GoldenFreddy earlier, that is never like
explicitly mentioned. So unless you're payingattention, you really don't fucking know.
And that all kind of goes backto like if you if you don't know
this, you won't know the difference, right, because Golden Freddie is an
extra fas bear suit that is hauntedby a completely different kid altogether. There's
(25:38):
like there's a child in the inthe movie that has he's got like a
hat. There's a blonde kid whois the first kid to talk to Josh
Hutcherson in his dream where he's like, well, we want Abbey, they
give us anything we want Abby,Okay. So he's the blonde kid that
haunts Golden Freddy, which is youknow, it's it's a different fas Bear
(26:00):
altogether. But unless you know that, you kind of like, what the
fuck? You know? Yeah thatand uh my buddies kept saying, oh,
that's a purple man, the purpleman. Purple Man. They kept
saying it, and I was lookingaround and I was like, I don't
see a purple man. Yeah, that's I would dude, ev like I
like I brought up with Batman vs. Superman, So so much of the
(26:23):
criticism for that movie was, youknow, like just honest criticism, you
know, but a lot of ittoo was and you and I have talked
about it a million times where it'slike, dude, you just you don't
read the comics, like I don't. We enjoyed it because we we know
what they're referring to, you know, and the implications of this or that
or the easter, Like I fuckingget it now. I understand why Batman
(26:47):
Vus Superman was so frustrating for somepeople, because now I'm so fucking like,
there's such a disconnect. There's likea giant fucking wall, and I'm
so gonna confused. But I'm alsoso like, I have to know.
Would you say that it's fair thatyou're now gonna probably more than likely deep
(27:08):
dive of this lore. Probably yes. Uh. When the if you had
asked me late last night when thecredits were rolling, I was like no,
because I don't get this movie.Like I was looking at it from
a biopic perspective, where after agood biopic, you as an audience member
is like, well they touched onthis subject. I want to learn more
(27:29):
about this, or if it's amusician, I want to listen to all
their music. This movie didn't makeme want to play the games because I'm
so confused and pissed off. Butnow I'm just like hearing you talk more
and more and I'm like, Okay, well wait, this is all very
intriguing to me. I like thestoryline. I'm just confused, and when
(27:51):
we come back from this break,we're gonna unconfuse the fuck out of Devin.

Groove Podcast, part of the OddPods Media Network. All right, so
we're back, and we're going tocontinue to unconfuse the fuck out of Devin
and the rest of you that maymaybe get confused. I'm not sure,
but I think it's funny that oneof the first jump scares in this movie
was the balloon Boy, which I'msure your boys probably jump for that too.
Yeah, Yeah, they in thelock he losing. Yeah, and
(28:56):
it was a reoccurring little site gag. So even if it was even if
I was watching it by myself, which good Lord, that would have been
a fucking test. But uh ifeven still because it was a reoccurring site
gag, it was still excusable becauseit now becomes a running gag and joke
(29:19):
throughout the movie. So I enjoyedthat, and I enjoyed the Cupcake.
Mister Cupcake is fun. I fuckinglove that little bastard. Just yeah.
I enjoyed all of the unassuming natureof these costumes, because as the games
progress, the costumes get more andmore fucked. That's cool. I like
(29:40):
that. At one point, likethere's a Freddy that has like several sets
of teeth that are sharpened, andthere's many animatronics there. It's like the
obviously that there's Golden Freddy, andthese aren't just variations of Freddy. I'm
just talking to general. There's likespring Trap, which is another variation of
the Yellow Bunny. There's a lotof different shit. There's even a quote,
there's even a sister location video game, completely new characters in the lore.
(30:02):
But actually I did catch that inone of the reviews that I was
listening to that they said, uh, spring Trap and he was like,
oh dude, And in the secondone spring Trap, and I was like,
wait, I thought Springtrip was.So let me ask you this,
like, is a yellow Bunny gonnabe like back in the second one?
(30:23):
Like is this like okay? Oh? Absolutely? Is it like an upgrade
or is it a reincarnation? No, I will get there, holy shit,
because I wasn't sure if it waslike reincarnated because he said he comes
back, which also got to popfrom everybody, so I assume that's a
catchphrase of some sort. I wasn'tsure if it was reincarnation or if actually
(30:44):
Vanessa is going to survive and thenbe a copycat killer. I wasn't sure.
No, it's definitely a thing. So in the back half of this
movie, Mike is threatened by Vanessato never take her with him to the
pizzeria because he has to because Maxobviously goes missing, and he doesn't know
this because she's been killed and doesn'trealize that this has happened. So she
(31:07):
makes friends with the animatronics, whichshe figures out they love drawings because she
drew a heart for Freddy and youknow, it's one of those moments where
you're just like, oh, theselittle fuckers are They're nice, I guess,
And again it's giving you a littlemore sympathy towards the children that were
fucking murdered, because really you're onlyfearing what the animatronics are. These kids
(31:30):
don't know any different, like thanwhat they're doing or what they're believing,
because they're still kids. But Iwas bittersweet on that because on one hand
it added so much depth. Onthe other hand, it's like, I
think the issue is not the factthat there's so much lore. I feel
like some of it is. Dude, save that for part two, because
(31:51):
if we will fear these things throughoutthe whole movie, and then in the
second one you kind of see thismoment, I feel like I would have
been even more hudged in a way. There's more to it, Okay,
That's what I'm saying that there's there'sso much Lord of this fucking franchise.
You can go anywhere you want towith it, really, But basically what
happens is he dreams again, Mikedoes, and the children are like,
(32:15):
hey, you can stay with Garrett, your little brother forever, but we
want Abby and he kind of agreesto it, but he doesn't agree to
it. Whenever they bring your nameup, he disagrees with you. I'll
give you whatever you want whatever.M hm. So the blonde kid that
made this deal possesses the damaged Freddyanimatronic and shows up and kills the ant
and takes Abby from the house, and which I think is funny. This
(32:37):
is the cab driver Corey Kinchin cameothat's neat where he's in there and he's
like, yeah, well and helooks in the back he's like, oh
god, and it's like the bigfucking suit. He's like, man,
always get the weird ones. Andeven he drives off and shit, which
is that was pretty funny. Butone thing I thought was wild is that
anytime Mike got attacked in his dream, he woke up fucked up, kind
(32:58):
of how in the Freddy Krueger worldhappens. Yeah, And that's exactly what
I uh kind of made a mentaljoke of because I was like, wait,
so you're trying to have this dreamso that you can go into the
real world with this information, yourreverse Freddy Krueger. Basically, it's kind
of that way, but it's alsohim tapping into a subconscious where we very
(33:21):
shit. But it was funny tome. Yeah, like I understood it.
But after a couple of dream sequencesfirst one, like I said,
I was fucked up. Yeah, and uh Fox, he fucks him up
real real good dude, and I'mjust like, fuck, dude. On
the animatronics kind of have their asseshanded to them, you know, when
(33:42):
he extrocutes them and all this othershit. But Steve shows up and uh
reactivates them, and he's wearing thatyellow Rabbit suit. And this is the
reveal where Vanessa shows up and she'slike, Dad, stop because, like
she has told Mike, this islike her dad has done this ship to
these kids. And she shows likea picture of the yellow Rabbit and you
(34:04):
know, his little brother in thesuit, and he's like, well,
what the fuck? And you know, Steve shows up in the suit and
he reveals himself as William Afton, the owner and creator of all of this
shit, and like he fucking stabsor he say he murders her. At
first you think he's murdering her,but she survives, thankfully. He's he's
gonna murder his own daughter, andyou're like, God, damn, this
(34:25):
dude's fucked in the head. Yeah, But what I'm getting at with the
whole like, does he come backwhen he's like, yeah, I always
come back if these kids that areghosts are in these suits. How he's
wearing the suit, but the thingmalfunctions and starts piercing into his ribs and
everything else. Like he's basically beingkilled by this fucking suit. He's gonna
(34:47):
bleed out and become one with thisfucking suit. His soul is going to
be like merged with this PhOH yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's That's what I'm getting at,dude, Like, so he he's becoming
spring Bondie, like spring Trap basicallyin this fucking suit. I thought he
was just dead. No, hellfucking no. I was just like,
(35:08):
okay, so you kill off thefranchise is big bad in the first it's
happened before, and they come backor maybe to the credit of whomever,
they were, like, well,we we want to wait and see how
it's received. We want to makesure it makes money, etctera, et
cetera. Let's make this a giantlove letter to the whole franchise. And
(35:31):
if it is good enough, thenwe'll figure out how to bring him back.
And here's where I get to blowyour mind a little more. Okay,
okay, okay, okay, Williammath And is purple Man. He's
the purple He's the purple guy. That's what I thought. People were saying,
like all my friends and everything. But I was like, wait,
so is wait what but he's nowhere? Wait what? Okay, so,
(35:54):
so where does the name purple Mancome? Because I kept looking for somebody
in a purple suit or I thought, uh, that that one, that
one. Oh Bonnie Bonnie. Yeah, I thought Bonnie was maybe the purple
Man. I wasn't. I was, When I tell you, dog,
I don't know if I've ever beenmore confused by a film inception. I
(36:19):
was like, eh, yeah,I get it. I mean it obviously.
It takes you a watch or twoto get every little detail. This
one, though, I was like, please don't pop quiz me God's sake,
Purple guy is he looks this way? Because in one of the games,
there's a mini game where he appearslike this to the kids or whatever.
It's like a little small miniature game. But the whole I always come
(36:43):
back line is from Freddy Fasber's PizzeriaSimulator. That's it's from that game.
Okay, He's he's also in uhlike his soul lives on and is carried
on or his role as like themain antagonist gets carried on eventually by a
character called the mimic you know, who is also glitch Trap and burn Trap.
These are other fucking entities that appearway later or whatever. But that's
(37:06):
why I'm saying, like, youcould you could go further with this if
you want to, because he's he'skilled by the killed, you know,
by the animatronic suit. Because Abbydraws the yellow bunny murdering all the kids.
So when the children that are possessingthe other animatronics see this, this
(37:27):
is why they turn on him andfuck him up and they just drag him
off and shit. So are herdrawings, like, first of all,
is that an aspect of the gameor is it for the movie? That
was something for the movie, okay, But in the games, there are
several children involved in these little smallerlike game like miniature games and shit like
(37:50):
that, because the more you playthe games, the more that gets revealed.
For fuck's sake, the fourth gametakes place. You're in bed in
a house and the two doors oneither side of the quote security room is
not the security room. You're havingto check both doors to your bedroom and
closet and under your bed and behindyou, and shit, that fourth game
is probably the scariest game in thefranchise, to be honest with you.
(38:12):
But as far as the timeline goes, like, the second game jumps back
in time and then the third gamejumps even further in time, but it's
all correlating together with the same story. Like these these games reveal more about
the lore of this this whole storyas it goes on. This movie only
touches lightly. And the reason Ibrought up the Sister Location thing is because
(38:36):
when Sheika is trying to kill Abby, the animatronic she's trying to shove her
in is very reminiscent of Baby, which is a It's an animatronic from the
Sister Location game. So I waslike, Ah, is that a reference
there? It definitely could be.Because you know, the Easter eggs abound.
They may not have thought they weregoing to make more than this one
movie, so I understand why theywere putting what they put in there.
(38:58):
But yeah, the movie ends withall of that happening and the animatronics dragging
William Athen into a back room.Abby and Mike leave with Vanessa and she's
in a coma in the hospital andhe's looking after her, and then he's
still looking after Abby. But inthe end credits there's a distorted voice.
(39:21):
I don't know if you stayed allthe way to the edit. Okay,
So, okay, did you catchwhat it spelled out? Wasn't it like
confine me? Yeah? Yeah,so that was in one of the games.
Is is that supposed to be springTrap? Or is that supposed to
be like because I just assumed thatit was Garrett. No, No,
it's a reference to Golden Freddy.Okay, so it's the more than likely
(39:45):
the blonde kid, like what Iwould assume. The blonde kid to me
represented like the vengeful child of thefive that were murdered, which I mean,
you got to expect that at somepoint. But that's a reference to
Golden Freddy, which I thought wasa really nice little least dragg Again,
this movie already has a sequel indevelopment. Nice. It made a shitload
(40:08):
of money. If I'm not mistaking. This is Bloomhouse's biggest opening weekend.
I think you're right, and Ithink I read that, and I think
it is one of, if notthe biggest horror opening for a female director.
In the words of Jason blu EmmaTommy, Okay, cool. Yeah,
So she helped co ride the screenplaywith Scott Cothayin, who is the
(40:31):
creator of the entire franchise. Sohe absolutely had his hand in this,
which I thought was a really smartmove because most of the time when people
get their hands on properties, they'rejust like, just give us permission.
We got this from here. It'slike, Nah, Scott was very much
hands on the deck with this.Well, wasn't it a one man show
for all of the games anyway?Yeah? I mean he he hasn't had
(40:51):
anything to do with the games fora little while now because he's handed it
off, because he had been tryingto hand it off in general because it
was getting to be too much. And shit, I can get that.
Yeah, so makes sense. Yeah, so the movie by Okay, so
it's listed as a twenty million dollarbudget, but Jason bloom himself had set
it's twenty five million dollar budget. The movie earned over one hundred and thirty
(41:12):
million world wide just this weekend.Wow, and that's like to think about
this. This movie opened in theatersand has also opened on Peacock in the
same weekend. So that's impressive tome. Yeah, because I actually did
the math last night while we werewatching it. There was about eight of
us. Then I know you watchedit on Peacock, and I in my
(41:34):
brain, I was like, dog, if it's like ten bucks a ticket,
holy shit, you know, like, let's actually do some fucking quick
maths here, right. But youalso got to think the way they do
streaming revenue towards these movies that open, like they take into account households that
pay for this, that watch this, and I think what happens is a
(41:55):
part of your premium goes towards likesome really think that's how it works.
Okay, I actually didn't know that. I could be wrong, but I
want to say that that's how theydo it. And plus, like our
revenues, like ad revenues and peoplethat don't pay for premium that have ads
during this, that's where the money, you know what I'm saying. So
(42:15):
at the end of the day, once again, Horror turns a goddamn prophet.
And we've said we said this onOur Terrifier and Our Terrifier two episode
that horror has like the best turnaround, like from Y for budget too gross,
It's almost impossible to lose with horror. I've seen movies with like the
box office this movie has made.I've seen movies with over that in budget,
(42:37):
and it's ridiculous. I don't feellike you need too much on your
budget to make a great movie.I think this movie was Was it the
greatest note? I think it wasgood. It's better than people are giving
it credit for being. Yeah.I think so much of it was me
being confused and also kind of aquestion of like I had the questions of
who is this four? Also throughoutbecause of the tone, because I was
(43:01):
confused on like wait, so ifthe games aren't just for children, but
they have the children audience, butyou're leaning towards me, Like I was
confused and just lost and scratching myhead so many times. You know,
what I want to do is doa deep dive on the games and then
(43:21):
do a Redus review one day tosee if like things get altered in my
opinion, Sure, I think that'dbe kind of cool because I feel like
we should do redus reviews in general, because we've all been there where we
watch a movie we think we fuckinghated, and then sometime later we're like,
it's not that bad. Actually,Halloween three was that for me.
(43:42):
Then there was uh shit. Thenthere's also been instances where we loved something
and then realized we were just drinkingsome kool aid, you know, we
were just excited. Yep. SoI'd like to do that one day after
I understand what I saw. Yeah, I mean in this movie is one
worth revisiting in the future for that, because again, there's there's a lot
(44:02):
of lored to dig into, andthere's books. There's even books on this
where there's story. You don't haveto but they're their side stories and and
there's a little more to them. But if you don't want to play the
games, because I will admit playingthe games, it's frustrating. Plus you
know my schedule, dog like youwould, you would do best to watch
some of marks playthroughs. If youwant to see how the gameplay works,
(44:27):
then I would one hundred and I'lllink them to you. There's YouTube videos
that do deeper dives than we couldever probably do on this because there there
are folks out there. And whenI say the fanaffe fan base is huge,
I mean it's fucking huge. Thismovie proves that. I think there
are so many folks out there thatturn out and droves to see this because
they're fans. The fans are I'mdefinitely gonna tell you what what gave this
(44:51):
movie. It's a box office andthat makes me happy. Though, Like
sincerely, I do hope that fansof the games love this, because,
like I know, it means alot to them. I just need more
context. Did you happen to lookat the critics score versus the the audience
(45:12):
score on this? Yes, twentyseven percent versus what eighty eight? Yeah?
Yeah, that has got to beone of the biggest divides I've ever
looked at. Yeah, and that'swhenever I saw that. That's whenever I
knew. Okay, So there's justa lot missing. It's not a bad
movie, it's just one that Idon't get. I think that this might
(45:36):
be a primate. Okay, Soyou know how folks are like, hey
man, why wasn't this Spider Manmovie more accurate to the comics. Why
wasn't this Batman movie this much further, like rooted in the comic lore,
and they did all this shit forthe movie and blah blah blah. I'm
being objective here. I think thismovie is a good case in that score.
Actually is a very good case ofwhat happens when you give everything in
(45:59):
the kitchen sink to nothing but fansin the lore. M Yeah, and
you don't do nearly enough to drawa wider audience, in which I think
that's what they were trying to dowith the other subplots and shit like that.
Probably, Yeah, And then youhave folks that are horror fans in
general that were like, where's thegore? Yeah, you know, they
(46:20):
pulled the whole Bobby Fish, where'sthe lie? Where's the blood? Because
like, for folk's sake, dude, you didn't really need it. Again,
this this movie played on the wholewhat is your imagination gonna tell you
that that happened? And that's that'swhat the game does. They just pull
a fast one on you. Ireally feel like this movie did great all
(46:43):
things considered. It's just negative withcritics. I think it's hugely popular in
the eyes of the fans, rightnow, and the box office is not
gonna lie you know, oh forsure. I'll say this. There's not
a lot of exposition. And soif you don't know what you're already watching,
it really does come across as afan film. And I mean that
(47:06):
in a good way, but alsoin the sense of like, no,
this is not meant for general audiences. We have a specific target in mind.
So, like I said, BBS, you know where, Oh you
see this torched spray painted on Robinsuit? Well who is that? You
(47:27):
look closer and it's like that's aI guess it's Robin. But they never
touch on it. They never explainwhat happened to Robin? Who did it?
I guess it's Joker because of theha ha ha, But where's he
now? They don't even bring upJoker, They don't where did this all
come from? And you and mewatching it was like cinema. Yeah,
(47:47):
there's a fucking there's actually a pictureof rolling around and it's like a really
funny picture of like as older FreddyFasbear and he's got this shitting grin on
his face and this is cinema andit's pretty fucking funny. Well that that's
probably what it is, dude,is I'm just sitting here like I don't
know the lure and you're speaking tome as if I should. I just
(48:09):
I'm so confused. It's fun,Like I will say that it's fun.
I don't think this movie's poor inany any area really, you know.
And that's not me being biased. It's just me like telling people out there,
it's like, dude, don't youcan't go into this movie looking at
what it is expecting anything more thanwhat you're getting. I'm sorry. Yeah,
(48:31):
And I think that was another questiontoo, was like I didn't even
know up until like an hour ortwo before the movie started. I still
was like, what do you meanit? You're mad? It's not r
like, So that should tell youjust how base my information was. Right
right before we go, I wantto point out something that I thought was
(48:52):
really cool. They used the LivingTombstones song. Yeah, they did get
a a big kick out of that, because wasn't that like a fan made
song. It was the first songlike fans song that was written about five
nights at Freddy's. Because there's abunch of people out there tryhard. Ninja
is one of them that I reallylike a lot of his songs about the
(49:15):
franchise, but the Living Tombstone waslike the first big one, and they
used it for the closing credits song, and I was like, this is
so fucking cool. That's why Iloved the fact that it was such a
love letter to the fans period becausethe song is called five Nights of Freddy's
but it's it's very well done,it's fun and it's good. So and
(49:35):
then just just a big shout out. This movie was shot in New Orleans,
so yeah, we were talking aboutthat last night too. Is the
actual building, Like, is thata real building or is it like a
built studio. I'm sure they builtit. Oh that's fucking cool. Like
I'm sure they built the sets, but like the exterior, I'm sure was
(49:57):
a shot of something there. Butit'd be so cool if they actually kept
that place renovated and you could goat night, Like, dude, how
cool would that be? Make thata haunted house over there, yep,
where you could stay the night.Ah, like a like a dead and
Breakfast, That's what I'm saying,Like, dude, you want to make
some fucking money off this shit, let's fucking go if you can stay all
(50:21):
five nights without checking out. Youget your stay for free. But then
that's what drives people to scare thebuck out of you to get the fuck
out of this house. Yeah, like scare the kids so badly the kids
and want to fucking leave, andthen and then think you're a parent,
and you could just get guilted intoLike fuck, dude, that'd be really
fucking cool. I think Universal, because you know how Universal does the Halloween
(50:42):
horror nights every year. Hm,I think that this is going to be
one of them. That's fucking rad. Like yeah, so again, Uh,
there is a sequel in development forthis, uh and if they fast
track it, I could see twentytwenty five, okay, like October twenty
twenty five. I mean, ifthe strikes go. I know, I
know, I don't mean to laughat it, No, I just I
(51:07):
am just just not I should.I'm not surprised. I'm not like at
all, But I'm just dumbfounded thatthese companies that make all this fucking money,
I just don't want to pay theirpeople worth the fuck dumb fucking stupid
bastards any fucking way. Uh,do do support the actors that make these
(51:28):
fucking things happen, like, dosupport them because the writers strike as far
as I remember, had yes stopped, they reached an agreement. So please
support these film like for the writersas well, because like, god damn,
I know it's easy to think,do your actors you're making millions of
all, they're not. Well. The thing is is like they're not talking
(51:52):
about your Dwayne Johnson's and your ChrisPratt's and all that. They're talking about
your indie guys, your guys thatyour union guys. Man, Yeah,
like you're smaller guys that are justWe've all seen it in movies where man,
I'm just trying to find my nextrole like that. We've had people
like that on this fucking show inthe past, Like like our friends at
(52:16):
Cinema Epic are some of those verypeople that this is their livelihood, this
is their day job, dude, right, Like it's not a matter of
well, then just work more orwork harder, like cause I know I'm
very guilty of whenever I hear likeblue collar jobs talk about union, I'm
(52:36):
very like guilty of thinking, becauseI'm in a blue collar job myself,
I'm guilty of thinking just fucking work, just fucking put in overtime. If
you have to do something, weall have to work overtime. Motherfucker.
Do you see the economy, That'snot what we're talking about. This is
a completely different thing. It's aboutgiving them the fucking fair competition. It's
(53:00):
a it's basically look at it asdo you want minimum wage? Well,
yeah, I want that at leastWell they don't get that, like they're
not getting their their version of minimumwage right, and they're not getting paid
with their fucking worth at the endof the day. Yeah, you know,
so again, support the writers andsupport to actors and shit man.
And we talk about these movies toobecause of it, like we want these
(53:23):
fucking studios to also understand that, like goddamn, like, you're not gonna
have this type of success if youkeep fucking your actors and shit over because
the movie industry is going to fuckingtank. You know what, though,
this actually this movie, I'm soglad that. First of all, I
am glad that we talked about itand you explained it, because when that
(53:44):
movie ended, I was like, well that was shit. And now that
I understand more of it, I'mmore willing to like do a deep dive.
So good on you for explaining, but also even if your explanation still
made me go, well, Istill don't like this movie. It goes
to our point that we made acouple of episodes ago where I said,
(54:06):
make horror movies with iconic characters, because even if you make a first movie
that is shit, if you fallin love with the concept and the iconic,
whether it's the slasher or the mysteryof whatever the case may be,
you're willing to say I'll see thesequel though, because there's potential. I
(54:29):
just didn't like this one. Soyeah, So the studios out there,
case and point, do your fuckingjob. Yeah. Visit super med brospodcast

another day, but we're gonna celebrateit in our own way. Because one
of the first directors that brought Devinand I's friendship together was Zack Snyder.
So what better fucking way to celebratethis friendship in this fucking show's three hundred
(55:58):
episode than by doing three three hundred. I'm so excited. Same. That
is like when somebody's like, hey, man, do you know of any
movie that is just testosterone? Threehundred, three hundred, Uh Predator,
Mad Max Fury Road Terminator to JudgmentDay. Hell Yeah. Like I'm telling
(56:20):
you, man, we're gonna diein Hell with the fucking Spartans, and
we're gonna kick motherfucker's down holes. We're gonna beat that shit out of people
wearing nothing but underwear, you knowwhat I mean? Like, I fucking
I love that movie so much, dude. That shit is sick. Okay,
