Supermas. Welcome to episode two hundredand ninety one of the Supermedia Bros.

(00:31):
Podcast. I'm Richie Devin's on vacationfor the remainder of the month of
September, and between now and theend, we're gonna do some some guests
on the show. And today Ithought I might switch it up a little
bit. I'm gonna do a soloepisode today and I'm gonna throw out something
a little different. It's it's beena while since we've done a concert review
on the podcast, and I've wentto two of them in the last few

(00:55):
days, and I'm fresh off ofone from last night and about three or
four day is removed from the otherone. Not to mention, it's been
a while since we've had a goodmusic based episode on here, so I
guess we'll get right into it today. I'm gonna be reviewing both the Baby
Clock Tour and Ghosts reimpare A Tour. I'm gonna kick it off with the

(01:17):
Baby Clock Tour. Now, theBaby Clock Tour for those of you that
don't know, or if you're notlooking at the artwork for today's episode.
It's a joint venture by Baby Metaland Death Clock, the fictional band from
Adult Swims metal Ocalypse. Now,I know, upon first glance you probably
wouldn't impair the two of these bandstogether for a tour, but I've got

(01:38):
to say, having seen it andfrom wanting to see both of these bands
before, it was a great show. I was able to attend the Houston
concert which it was the kickoff date, which I've attended a few concert tours
where we got the first date, and it depends. Sometimes tours go really

(02:00):
well right out the gate, andsometimes the first show or two, you
know, there's some bugs or glitchesin like production or what have you.
But I've got to say this onewent off without a hitch, and I
hope that anybody that is catching anyof the dates on the remainder of this
tour gets a chance to do that. I won't be giving away entire set

(02:22):
lists or anything like that. Thisis more of a review based on the
experience of like, you know, production, quality of the performance. I'll
give a couple of things as faras the set list goes with songs,
I won't say front to back,but I'll know I'll point out highlights.
First of all, guitar virtuoso JasonRichardson is the warm up act, if

(02:46):
you will, And he's probably mostwell known as being the guitar player for
Bornobo Cyrus, and he also hasdone work and I think still does work
with all that remains, and thiswas really cool. I mean, he
plays by himself with a backing trackof instrumentals, but I mean there's really
no vocals to be done. It'sjust pretty much him shredding and it's metal

(03:09):
as fuck, honestly. But Ithought it served as a nice warm up
because you know, I think Ispeak for a lot of people when I
say like we tend to save ourenergy at concerts for the headlining act.
It's not that the opening acts areever terrible. I've I've been to a
share of concerts where the opening actwas it was okay, you know,

(03:29):
it just wasn't as high energy. You know. I thought this was fine.
Jason is a hell of a guitarplayer and extremely talented, and I
thought it was just a perfect act. Actually, I think to a lot
of people, surprisingly Death Clock windsup going first on the bill with Baby
Metal. I'm a little curious tosee if they actually are alternating headlining for

(03:51):
each show, because both bands ofdeath Clock and Baby Metal play for about
an hour apiece death Clock, ifyou've ever seen live, they tend to
black out the actual band while theanimation of Death Clock, the cartoon band
plays on screen in real time. And I got to give a lot of

(04:13):
credit to drummer Gene Hoglan, becausewithout him, this entire thing would fail
and fall on his face miserably funnyenough, I say they play for an
hour apiece, and honestly, it'swild to think that Baby Metal only plays
I think like eleven or twelve songs, but death Clock played around sixteen or
seventeen if if my count is correct. And the best thing about death Clock

(04:36):
is that in an hour, playingthat many songs is because there's really not
a lot of banter or talking inbetween songs. They just kind of get
right into it. And Death Clockis currently supporting the Death album four,
which just dropped not very long ago, and unsurprisingly they're only playing two songs

(04:56):
at least by my count from theshow, they only play two songs from
it, and most of the stuffthey played came from their first album,
which I fully expected because a lotof us are old school Metalocalypse fans that
are attending this, so they're probablymore likely to dig back into you know
what brought us all here in thefirst place. They definitely were playing death

(05:17):
theme, Go into the Water,Hatred Copter, Mermaider, thunder Horse,
you know, the good shit atwhat I consider good shit. I like
this band all around, but itwas my first time seeing them, so
I was honestly expecting a lot ofthe old shit, which I was not
disappointed, But if you're a bigfan, you're not going to be disappointed
regardless. Essentially, the way theconcert lines up is you get Jason Richardson,

(05:40):
who is an instrumentalist. Then youget Death Clock on stage, who
you don't really see unless you're upfrontclose to them, because like I said,
they blacked the stage out. Butthen you get to baby Metal,
who you see and hear all ofand they have excellent interaction with the crowd.
Now, for those of you notfamiliar with Baby Metal, it is
absolutely Kawaii id style Japanese music, like a trio of Japanese girls singing and

(06:04):
doing choreography over metal music, whichit's you know on paper, you would
look at it and think like, what the fuck is this? But it
is honestly some of the best shitthat is out there. I love it
because to me, it's highly originaland they've been around for about I don't
know, ten twelve years, Ithink, and it's it's amazing that they're

(06:24):
here in the States because it's it'svery difficult to get Japanese acts here in
the States, and I would thinkdue to travel arrangements and visas and all
that, but it's also very it'sa very big deal to have a band
like this over here, and Ilove the fact that this is the show

(06:46):
we're getting in such an intimate venue. And Baby Metal put a hell of
a show on for the eleven ortwelve songs that they played, most of
which coming from their self titled albumBaby Metal. They played some from Metal
Galaxy, two from their new album, and one from Metal Resistance. They
were very interactive with the crowd,a lot of us. I know for
a fact, I knew people thatwere there for the first time seeing them.

(07:08):
It was my first time seeing BabyMedal and I'm not gonna lie.
I fucking like fangirl the whole timebecause I'm a huge, huge fan of
this band, and as far asenergy goes, that it didn't let up.
That's definitely one thing I can sayabout all three of the acts is
that the energy is there, andbe it with the music or the stage
presence from and everybody involved. Youyou love to see it. You love

(07:29):
going to a show where you cantell the musicians on stage you're having a
blast and they're having a great time. And Baby Medal is no exception.
I think the backing band members inthat band are very much unsung heroes that
they're damn good musicians. But likeI said, Baby Medal put on a
hell of a show, and Ithink the order in which they played was
was a pretty good. It waspretty good for this show. I'd be

(07:53):
like I said before, I'd beinterested to see if Death Clock and Baby
Metal alternate headlining slots as far aslike who plays last and who plays beforehand.
But I feel like if this isthe actual lineup for the entire tour,
it's perfect given like I said earlier, how it starts instrumentally and then
you don't really see Death Clock, but then you see and hear everything that
Baby Metal has to offer. It'sa great way to close the show.

(08:18):
They send everybody home on a verybig high note, happy note, and
baby Metal is high energy the entiretime they're playing. So if you're a
fan of either band, if you'venever seen either band, or if you're
just a fan of one of themand you go to this concert, you
will be one over. I canpromise you that you'll be one over by
any one of these that you haven'tseen before. There's still several tour dates

(08:39):
happening in the United States. Aswith this recording, there's still tickets on
sale. I know for a factthat a few of the dates are actually
sold out, So if you livein the Boston area or the New York
area, I know for a factthat those two shows are sold out,
and the Chicago, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Denver, Colorado, Seattle, Washington
dates are all sold out, asis Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Los

(09:00):
Angeles. Tickets are still available forevery other show on the tour, so
visit the baby Clocktour dot com toget your tickets to this show if you
plan on attending a future one.As of this recording, the tour is
going to run until October the twelve. At Los Angeles California. So I
would suggest hopping on this and gettingyour tickets because they will sell out.
It looks like they're going to sellthe rest of the shit out. We'll

(09:22):
take a quick break and then wheneverI come back, I will talk about
ghosts. Re Imperator from Houston,Texas. You're listening to the supermedia bros
on the Odd Pods Media Network Don'tgo anywhere. Hey you there, We've
got a question for you. Areyou tired of clickbait stories and the loudest
voices driving discussions and culture and entertainment. If so, I'm Dylan, I'm

(09:45):
Kendall, and I'm Corey, andwe host the podcast from the Middle.
We're middle class guys living in themiddle of America, in the middle chapters
of our lives with points of viewsomewhere in the middle. We take a
more reasonable and centrist approach in ourdiscussions. Bring genres like comedy, culture,
entertainment, and interviews with really interestingfolks like business owners, comic creators,

(10:07):
doctors, news anchors, New YorkTimes best selling illustrators, professional stand
up comics and more. We reallyvalue a relaxed and conversational podcast, one
that we hope is so fun andlaid back, you'll forget you're not actually
hanging out with us. So searchat from the midpod just like it sounds,

(10:28):
or check us out everywhere you canfind podcasts. All right, and
I am back with you. We'regoing to talk about the Reimperator Tour by
ghost This is a continuation of theoriginal Imperator, which is the supporting tour
for their latest album, Impera. And this tour has actually been going on

(10:52):
since January twenty fifth of twenty twentytwo, and it's going to finally wrap
up in October on October seven, doing and have done seven legs of this
tour and the number of shows willbe one hundred and thirty by the time
it's all done. For those ofyou unfamiliar with Ghosts, a lot of
the terminology that I will be speakingabout may not translate with you. However,

(11:16):
those of you that are huge fansof the band, like myself,
will understand these terminologies, and Iwill do my best to explain. A
lot of us referred to the showsas rituals, which that's what they are.
They are rituals, and the albumsare referred to as sacred psalms,
and it's it's an entire thing thatyou can delve into. There's a lot

(11:37):
of lore and history to this band, and it's a lot of fun to
dig into. So if you're onlyjust now getting into them, I highly
suggest digging deeper. It's it's muchmore of an experience when you know all
the stuff going into it. ButI gotta say, from front to back,
I didn't expect this live show tobe a disappointment whatsoever. The opening

(11:58):
band is Amana Marth, which it'sone of those bands. First of all,
they are a Swedish Viking metal band. Also Ghost is from Sweden,
which I think is fucking kool ofshit. Amanta Marth is one of those
bands that it's not like I forgetthat they are around. It's just that
I don't go out of my wayto listen to them very often, but
whenever they're on I listen anyway becausetheir music is fucking killer and the live

(12:18):
translation is just as good. They'revery interactive with the crowd. The music
is good live, the band assolid as fuck. They have a hell
of a show that they put onand they only played for like an hour,
maybe fifty minutes at most, butin that time frame they packed a
hell of a punch and we haddamn near a sold out house in Houston

(12:43):
at the Woodlands, and listening toGhost, you wouldn't think that, oh,
like a band that is a littleheavier in terms of vocals and the
music itself, you know it Ghostor one of those bands where like,
who do you put opening for them? And you could really put anybody opening
from them, because Ghosts themselves haveopened for several bands, and ironically,
I think it's cool how Ghost isopened for several bands, but now some

(13:07):
of those bands are opening for them. Ghost had opened for Mastadon on a
tour not terribly long ago, andnow Mastadon, I think, on the
first leg of this tour actually openedfor them, and also towards the end
of this tour they're actually going tobe headlining Brazil for the very first time,
along with Argentina and Chile, andthey're doing an Australian leg in October.

(13:28):
However, I think the big storygoing into the lore of the band.
Every so often the quote lead singeris replaced by a different singer.
It seems to be almost every albumcycle. The big rumor going around is
that Papa Americus, the fourth whois the current incarnation of their lead singer,

(13:50):
is going to be killed off atthe Los Angeles concert. Now,
this is completely unconfirmed and it's it'sall rumored, but that's been the big
stories surrounding the lore and this tourbecause we're nearing the end of this album
cycle and it's going to soon betime to start thinking about what the sixth
Sacred Psalm is going to be,and hopefully we'll be released in twenty twenty

(14:13):
four. But as far as theactual concert itself goes, Ghost has so
much material that if you're a hugefan of the band like I am,
it's essentially like the Greatest Hits setlist. It doesn't matter what they play
during the set. Like I honestlycould care less what they put on this

(14:33):
set list. I was going tobe happy no matter what. And even
if you're not a fan of thisband, the showmanship, the musicianship,
and how even some of the banterthat Papa Emeritus does between songs, it'll
hook you in. There's humor, there's lightheartedness, there's metal as fuck moments,

(14:54):
there's rock and roll, there's operaticsounding stuff. I love Ghosts so
much because they encompass everything that Ihave ever loved about rock and roll music,
and it's all in one package. Now, one day, I'm sure
that we will get into this bandas a whole. With the lore and
everything. I'm only just kind ofgiving what I know fans of this band
are going to understand and hopefully enticeyou enough if you never listen to them,

(15:18):
to come check them out. Butwith so many elements of everything that
I've loved about rock music, beat the theatrics, the makeup, the
pyrotechnics, the showmanship, the musicitself speaks for itself. In my opinion,
there's so much to get into andlove about this Like if you love
rock music of any kind, thereis literally something for everybody. Parents brought

(15:39):
their kids out to this show.Everybody was done up in makeup. It's
a big fucking family or deal goingto see ghost the congregations, as they
will call us as their fans.We absolutely enjoy attending the rituals and getting
other people involved. It's a lotof fun. I've never seen so many

(16:00):
different walks of life at a concertbefore ever, Like I thought it was
cool as shit. We were leavingthe show, and they had to have
been like a seventy plus year olddude that I saw. He was in
a full suit dressed up as PapaNeil, which, if you know anything
about the lore, that is fuckingphenomenal. Honestly to see like a gentleman

(16:21):
that old that is into this band, because most people that are fans of
this band kind of get shipped on, and I think, I think it's
unfortunate because I certainly am a proponentof love what you like, it doesn't
matter what it is, enjoy whatyou like. But this tour, this
concert, this set list was oneof the best that I've been to.

(16:41):
And I'm not even being biased.I'm a musician myself, so I like
to look for production quality and Ilike to look at how tight bands are
rehearsed and how well they perform. And I've got to say like that there
were no missteffs or anything of thesort during their set, and noticing that

(17:03):
kind of stuff comes easier when youplay yourself, because as a musician you've
got to be able to cover upflubs or what have you. But from
front to back it was it wassuch an amazing time. It's such an
amazing concert. The song selection wasvery well done. I'm sure that people
who are huge fans of their firsttwo albums would be slightly disappointed, only

(17:23):
because between the first two albums theyonly play three songs from that era.
But for those of you that arehuge fans of Empera and Prequel and Meliora,
you won't be disappointed. There's avery healthy mix of songs from all
three of those albums, which alot of people that's thus the three albums

(17:45):
that they are drawn to. Soby the time that this episode drops,
there's only going to be two showsleft on this tour, and those are
the Englewood Slash Los Angeles, CaliforniaRituals, and you know we're going to
We're going to see what happens atthose because after that there's only eight shows
and those are between the Latin Americaand Australian dates, so you know,

(18:07):
we shall see. I'm very curiousto see what happens in the next chapter
of Ghosts ongoing story, and hopefullywe will have a new album next year
to look forward to and another tourto attend. And I will say this,
if you do have a chance tosee them, when their next run

(18:27):
happens. Absolutely go do it.It is a blast and a half.
You're going to be entertained. There'ssomething for everybody. I know. There
were people at this show in Houstonwho were attending for the first time and
it was such a blast. Icouldn't have asked for a better first experience
myself. This was my first ritualto attend. So definitely go check out

(18:49):
Ghosts discography and find something you like. I guarantee you there's something for you
there and catch a ritual the nexttime that they're out on the road.
