In late 1978, Taiwan faced one of its most impactful challenges, when Washington announced plans to switch recognition to Beijing. Fears rose over Taiwan potentially losing one of its strongest allies. Members of the international community also worried about many other practical concerns, such as the continuation of English-language radio in Taiwan, and international schooling for their children. American lawyer Rob Parker played an important role in helping Taiwan through this difficult time, including actively lobbying for passage of the Taiwan Relations Act, establishing International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT), and Taipei American School. ICRT’s Tim Berge talks to Parker about his new book, "Derecognition", which gives a first hand look at this challenging time in history. Derecognition is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
