(02:01):
that is what we will be Welcometo the Show of Tom. Once again,
I want to thank you Ajy,and it's always a happy occasion.
Today is our seventh chat, sowe have been doing this for seven times.
Again, I want to congratulate youon getting this idea together of helping
(02:23):
us together focus on two countries thatare very important Indian Brazil. And we've
seen after seven chats that exactly thatthe importance has always been there. Drawing
attention to that importance is not onlyus talking about it, the world is
talking about it. So when wetalk about global self leadership, it's becoming
(02:47):
more evident of the place in andBrazil in the new global economy, So
thank you. Recently we had theG twenty meeting in it, so I'd
like to hear what happened. Howwas that? Absolutely, absolutely it was.
(03:07):
It was great and not I amonly saying it, but the world
is saying it and the world, even the world media is saying this.
And you know, the biggest thinghas been that India showcased what it thinks
in terms of diplomacy and their diplomacy, our diplomacy that we showcased from the
very beginning was that you know thatthe world is one family. We use
(03:30):
the word called them. That meansthat the world is world family. Our
Prime minister he said that very veryclearly. Even earlier on we talked about
the moon right moon landing, youknow, Jani, So there also we
also talked about them sort of athing that we talk only about the humanity,
(03:59):
about global and this is what Indiais all about, long long years
back. Our ancestors, all thosepeople thousands of years back, even though
when they had no idea how theworld looked like, they always talked about
humanity. So this is what theculture was showcased in terms of what we
think, we don't think in isolation. We think in terms of a global
(04:20):
world, the right world where weare, we are our family. And
in that sense, you know wherediplomacy was not diplomacy. It was much
more of the messaging that we are, we are, We don't want to
go it all along is it hasto be all together, a lot of
people together, the globe together itself. And that is the biggest victory.
(04:43):
That is where if you see foreveryone, was that the declaration which was
earlier looking like that it was notgoing to happen because there is no point
not going to be in consensus, but it finally happened, and it finally
happened with a lot of census andagreement there and that is where the biggest
success was that, okay, thisis India can can talk sense at the
(05:11):
high table and bring everyone to consensustheir consensus. So everyone understood this world.
Media also understood it. They reportedit like that even global leaders,
global you know countries also they haveunderstood that India can, which has been
taking on its responsibilities very very seriouslyin terms of global affairs, in terms
(05:36):
of a global citizen, as avery country, a conscious country who knows
about you know about its role inall sphears, either it is in terms
of you know, security, interms of in terms of climate change or
everything. India has been taking itsrightful position and it is not only taking
(05:59):
care of it it's own interest, but it is taking care of the interests
of the globe. And where youknow, this is what G twenty for.
If you want me to look atit, I could see it.
I can see it in that particularsense, and it is very nice to
see that it is moving forward andthe mantle of presidentship that is now passing
(06:21):
from India to Brazil. So PresidentUlula was here and there was a declaration
between India and Brazil there at pointin time, and there was a discussion
there. So I guess that wasalso a great thing. You know.
I was seeing that statement released byby your government government of Brazil and that
(06:44):
has many many points in there. So I would like to understand now that
now the G twenty presidentship is goingto be with Brazil from December though the
giver has already been given. Sohow do you look at it from that
side of well, very positively andagain from where we are and were,
(07:06):
it was like watching the football thesoccer match and sitting up in the upper
deck and watching the players play. All right, and we've talked about that
before, and what I talk abouta lot is multicultural communication. And what
(07:28):
your premier, Premier Modi did andstill does very effectively at the G twenty
was to bring together all of thedifferent points that you mentioned, because obviously
it was the world. We wouldlike to say it's one big, happy
family, right, but it's onefamily, but not necessarily happy, and
(07:55):
it depends on where you sit atthe table of how happy you are or
aren't now the attracted point and again, looking as a spectator from a country
that's sitting at the table right theG twenty table, it was very impressive
(08:16):
because to articulate relationships. We knowthat in business, business succeeds because of
personal relationships, and we have beentalking about business between two countries, India
and Brazil. So what we didsee was examples and speaking of Indian Brazil,
(08:41):
very favorable personal relationships between the BrazilianPresident Lula and the Indian Prime Minister,
which led to the statement that yousaid, which is also very favorable.
But beyond that, it was thestatements made to the other G twenty
to the rest of the world duringthat context. So that's leadership. So
(09:05):
when you lead at the table ofthe family and it's a small you know,
the father gets up or the mothergets up and says, well,
this is the way it's going tobe. What we did see and the
reflection was a of people coming togetherof maybe having different opinions because we know
(09:26):
that the developed countries have and haveenjoyed much more of the world than the
developing countries have. That's a fact. Okay. What we see and hear
from Premier Maudie and also from PresidentLula is that the seats at the table
(09:50):
need to be more equal. Eachone of the world's children need to have
a voice and need to adjust towhatever the reality is. Because the reality
in India we've talked about that, the challenges the successes Brazil is the same
thing, but many of the othercountries. So the leadership role in what
(10:15):
is being called the global self leadershipand Premier Mada has stepped into that.
President Lula will welcome that and willcontinue that to become the voice, become
the leadership of like a hundred othercountries that really aren't necessarily at the g
twenty table. But need to havesomebody speak in their favor. So that's
(10:41):
what I've taken away. Very positive, all right. Obviously challenges to get
statements and everybody defending their individual positions. That's from countries. But on a
positive site, it opens up forIndia and Zil more attraction. All right.
(11:03):
You mentioned the moonshot. We've talkedabout that here. We talked about
the laboratories here, so it didtake the chance of opening to the world.
Very successful engagements from India's part. That's prize. The world surprised us
this, all right. You knowIndia has gone to the moon, and
it's not going to the moon. It's what's behind that. The infrastructure,
(11:28):
the science, the business all hasto happen, and it does. So
that is the positives to see thatleadership now being changed to Brazil and the
continuity in the G twenty with PresidentLula again shows that continuity. There won't
(11:48):
be a I don't see a changecoming in that direction, just I say
more positive reinforcement of the same thingsthat Premier Maud and Lulu defense of a
sustainable world because the challenges in Braziland in India are very similar. It's
sustainability. Both countries are huge producersof food, but both have huge challenges
(12:15):
in feeding their own people. Sothat difference has been highlighted. And I
see the continuity of again talking aboutthe table, bringing the table. What
President Lula has done is also defendedthe presence of India at the table in
(12:37):
the United Nations Security Council. Right, So these are steps that I can
I can only say it's positive, right, absolutely, absolutely so, uh
Tom. In terms of now youknow India Brazil Global South leadership, So
(12:58):
this I guess yes, with theG twenty and now with the G twenty
presidency going to Brazil, A lotof you see the talk of G seventy
seven or the Global South if wecan, if we see this is almost
(13:18):
like India and Brazil will be leadingthe leading the leadership. The responsibility we
can see is the right word, the responsibility from now onwards. How do
you look at that? The role, the expanding role of India and Brazil
in the Global South leadership. WhatI see and what has been favorably expressed
(13:43):
in this statement. If we takethe statement and look into the details,
one thing is what was said ina collective environment, okay of telling the
world. The more important thing iswhat comes out in this the statement India
Brazil statement is it's the chat betweenAJ and Tom. It's what we sit
(14:09):
down and talk about, all right, And to that point, it's with
Premier Moody and Lula and the restsat down. Let's talk about what's important
for us. We don't want totake ourselves out of the world, but
we want to make sure that whatwe need mutually will happen, all right,
(14:30):
So what is the favorable point thatI see? There a number of
different forums, business forums we're agreedto be established between the two countries,
so that will be obviously lead tomore business type persons sitting down at the
table with more specific focus of theobjectives India and Brazil together. So it's
(14:58):
not to become my isolationists, butit's to say, how can we highlight
between the two countries the positivety. We're talking about science, We talked about
agriculture. There are a number ofareas that really need to be focused together,
so exchanges in terms of nohull,so we're talking at different levels.
(15:22):
So that actually came out. Isthat going to happen tomorrow? But I'm
positive that it will happen, sothat light of putting people together, all
right, real business type people, academics, scientists, journalists, having them
(15:43):
together, that will be the secondaryparts of how this goes forward in India
and Brazil. So that's what Itake away from a mega event and the
reflection that it will have on ourrelationships will certainly be right. Right.
(16:03):
So as the world you see ispassing through its own challenges and globally people
leaders will try to deal with it. How do you see China's role in
this? Because India and Brazil theyhave their own independent relationship with China,
(16:25):
and China is part of G seventyseven and where it says it is not.
So we always talked about G seventyseven plus China, it's G seventy
eight. How do you see that, you know, be calibrated by Brazil
and India in their own manner atthe same time, you know, taking
(16:47):
forward that whole leadership of the globalSouth. I think i'd use the word
pragmatism, all right, and tothat, obviously, Brazil has a very
intense relationship economic relationship with China, and we've spoken about that before. I've
(17:10):
said that they're major investments, notrecently, forever. The Chinese companies have
been here, They've been investing ininfrastructure in many other areas for a long
time. So the relationship between Braziland China has been ongoing for a while,
all right. And it's not antigonic, I understand, because even though
(17:36):
we have the investments coming from China, China is also one of the major
clients of everything produced to in Brazil. So we're talking about energy, we're
talking about food, we're talking aboutresources. So it is a two way
street. But again, China isnot our neighbor. China is india neighbor,
(18:00):
right, so it's in our mutualbackyards. But again at the dinner
table, having the family sitting aroundand having those open chats and being pragmatic.
I think that is the role forboth Brazil and India and China because
if we put if we take thatand say that's a tripod, China's a
(18:26):
power. You're not to say thatisn't it is has a massive influence in
your part of the world. That'sa physical presence, but it's the dialogue.
It's having the ability to talk andunderstand in a non belligerent way.
The easy thing is that let's fight. We don't want to do that.
(18:49):
The world doesn't need any more fighting. It does need pragmatic dialogue. And
that's what we've seen. The worldin the last year's has become so separate.
We see the right, the leftand everything that the poor guy us
in the middle. We don't knowwhich way to look. So this collective
(19:14):
relief I can see happening, butagain it's step by step process. The
statements that you mentioned, they showproof of that that it's possible. So
I think that the positivity people arelooking at the world where they're not looking
at the world. They're looking atout our space. We're talking about the
moon, we're talking about planets,we're talking about other things. So what
(19:37):
we do have to settle the challengesthat are here, and nothing better than
personal relationships. So the more wecan what can we do, What can
aj and Tom do? We cando what we're doing, just keep talking
about it, attract more people tothe opportunities that are there, right,
(20:00):
Tom, Right. So with theD twenty passing on to you know,
presidency passing on to Brazil, howwhat is the talk amongst the media now?
Are they hoping something big from this, what is the about the role
of Brazil for the next one yearour they're looking at it and especially you
(20:22):
know, one new development that hashappened is that this year, you know,
so African Union has been inducted asthe new permanent member and that is
this this part of the world isvery close to your part of the world,
well our parts of the world. What we are talking we talked about
the G twenty, but before wecharted, we talked about the Bricks meetings
(20:45):
right about the meeting was in SouthAfrica, so it's a cantinuity of conversations.
So we had the Bricks, wegot the G twenty. It's going
to be ongoing with the presidency here, with the presidency of banking institutions.
We need to talk about money,so having more people talk about that and
(21:10):
being involved in the dialogue and we'retalking about South We're going to talk about
this in a future shadow. Whatdoes that really mean? But again,
leadership is leading hopefully by good examples, and leading is people who want to
follow. So if I mentioned we'veseen the success of the G twenty from
(21:32):
the World leaders going to India andwhat they saw and heard. I mentioned
that President Lula is in the UnitedStates. That's the United Nations with over
fifty world leaders wanting to speak withhim there. So being a leader and
having followers. The premiere in Indiahas created that and nurtured that and will
(21:57):
so I can see this dialogue, including Africa's. We've talked about Africa probably
six chants ago, right, SoI think it's more inclusion, more awareness
that we need to talk and weam saying collectively the countries in the global
South will have a probably more permanenttypes of conversations than previously because there's more
(22:22):
structure. So that structure of havingtables in different places with chairs and sufficient
chairs to invite people to come andsit is probably the first thing that has
happened and needs to continue, soto welcome others to sit down at the
(22:42):
table and talk. Absolutely absolutely,So I see that, you know,
the future times are not going tobe off say keeping distanced, but you
know, but keeping much more closenessbetween neighbors or even the distant what you
(23:03):
call people distant countries. Also becauseyou just cannot be away. Earlier,
you even if you are not gettingtogether or were distance. Nowadays the leadership
is meeting in so many forums globally, and it's a continuous the dialogue that
happens. Maybe you know, maybenot in track one, but maybe in
(23:26):
track two. Somewhere in the inthe back alleys of the diplomatic world,
there is stuff going on. Andthis is a nice thing, you know
that. I think nowadays, intoday's time, people, no countries can
remain isolated. Now and back towhat we do. Your background is a
journalist, you know that we canheadlines could be good or bad, the
(23:52):
content could be good or bad. There is so much good happening. Many
times people overlook it. Let's goback to what has actually happened from the
G twenty and we're talking about Braziland India. Recent headlines that I saw.
The third largest manufacturer of airplanes inthe world is a Brazilian company called
(24:14):
embry Air right and Embryar at themoment is in discussions with India to set
up a manufacturing installation in India tostart manufacturing airplanes in India because India is
a massive market for air travel. So these are things that are happening.
They may not be up on thebillboard. Many people may not be seen
(24:38):
that. But this is just oneexample of many things that are happening.
What we need to do AJ isto highlight those good examples, and that's
what we will do in our chats. Absolutely, absolutely, India and Brazil
are big markets. India is amarket in its own manner. Brazil is
a market in its own mana. But one thing very much common is that
(25:02):
in terms of podcasting, both arevery solidly, very very fast growing places,
either in terms of listeners or interms of podcasters, or even in
terms of the world which wants toa lot of our guests. They want
to reach our respective countries and theywant to showcase their brand, their their
products, their services or whatever itis. And you know, and it
(25:26):
is nice to see that the spotlightis on the Global South. You know,
two top nations of the Global Southleadership. So with this it's a
wrap on this very special edition ofthe kJ Market Class. One of the
things I say and defense is exactlythat be heard, be found. So
(25:49):
before we can be found, somebodyhas to hear. So I think,
what you do, what I do, We try to help people here to
be found. So absolutely absolutely beheard, be found, And there is
no word here, there is noplace for you're getting lost here. That's
(26:10):
alway in b to be discovered bythe world with this, it's a wrap
on this very special edition of thekJ Masterclass Life. Thank you so much
