Speaker 3 (00:51):
In the back of Kyle Yeomans.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
The schedule is out of course, it happens right after
we get off the air and always us, we're also
going to talk some OTAs, which, by the way, guess
when that happens, Tommy today, Right after what this Talking
Cowboys OTAs continues and we get our first look at
the twenty twenty five Dallas Cowboys team.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Glad you're with us, though, as we'll talk through at
the best.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
We know how, and then we'll wrap it up again
next week going into Mini camp, which starts right after
what josh OTAs talking Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Oh yeah, next week Tuesday. So you said I wasn't
being indigenous.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
That's okay, No, no, no, to be fair, don't think
of this as a late show, you know what I mean.
It's not late, it's not after everything. It's it's a recap. Yeah,
we're just recapping it. We're just hanging back, we're chilling.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
So yeah, we know, you know, the schedule currently breaking.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Any news on this show not until the season starts,
but then we get after it.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
We break news during the season, for sure. We do
quite a bit actually, because that's when it's going down.
Oh yeah, right at nine o'clock.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Isaiah's out of town.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
He'll be out the next couple weeks, and then Patrick
should be back next week. So looking forward to getting
everybody back. I do want to give a little bit
of credit here though, before we get things underway and
start talking about the twenty twenty five Cowboys schedule, I
want to give some props to Tommy Yarish, who yesterday
called the first ever girls Flag Football Championship held here

(02:17):
at the Star in Frisco, Arlington. Martin takes home the
Crown just down the street from AT and T Stadium
is where they are. They get to celebrate with state
championship aspirations. But Tommy Yarsh, Nicole Hutcheson, we're on the
call for those games.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
He did a great job. Miche well, thanks man, I
appreciate it. Yeah, Nicole was awesome, and the whole production
team was great and really tip of the captain. Danny
McCrae has been kind of the spearhead of pushing girls
flag football to the forefront. This is for their first
time doing this thing. He did an unbelievable job and
the fact that I just got to be a part

(02:50):
of it was really fun and so tip of the
cap to Danny and now hoping that the UIL makes
this a sanctioned sport so that girls all around the
state of Texas can participate and continue to grow the
game and make it really fun.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
It was a really cool event. There were so many
different teams represented. They played all day yesterday and leading
up into the championship and then and I know there
was another event in Houston, Texans and may have been
making a push for the Austin area and in the
Houston area, and then the Cowboys have Dallas covered up here,
and so it's really a statewide NFL push to continue

(03:24):
giving high school aged girls the opportunity to possibly earn
scholarships in college. Now, it really is a cool thing
going on. If you have any questions on that or
want to learn more, go to NFL dot com.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
I think it's slash backslash flag or something.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
I think there's also on the Cowboys side too. I
think it's an absolute lowboys dot com backslash girls flag.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Girls flag. That's the that's the site. And again, big
shouts to Danny McCrae for putting it together. And really
like anytime you hear that the girls flag football in
this building, Dann McRae has touched it. I'm saying like
he's he's had a part in it, and even looking
at the uniforms like that, that's so awesome that they
were able to do that, and so many schools involved
as well, I mean participating in schools like it's just

(04:04):
a laundry list.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Of fifty four schools.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
That's amazing. That's amazing.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
The first year, that's incredible.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
So you get credit.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Team and Charlotte Jones and the Jeene and Jerry Jones
Foundation doing a great job setting all that up, so
a lot of positives to go around for Girls Flight.
For one, it's only the.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Beginning, only the beginning, just like the beginning of us
knowing what the Cowboys schedule looks like. It was released
last week Wednesdays. The Cowboys pro right here.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Week one to week ten is kind of what a
normal NFL schedule is going to look like. You kind
of go with the normal divisional games mixed in with
a really tough one here and there, a couple of
tough road games there. You start, of course with the Eagles,
which we talked about last week, and then you got
the Giants at home, go on the road against Chicago,
back home against the Packers. That'll be a fun one

(04:55):
at the end of September. Then you go on the
road against the Jets following that. Then you get into
a couple of road games against the Panthers and the Broncos, Commanders,
Cardinals at home before the bye.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Week in week ten.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
The reason I set it up that way, though, is
because that's a normal NFL schedule.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
A couple of tough ones, couple road.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Games, couple home games.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Sounds like a monster truck commercials. Yeah, Sunday Sunday, Sunday Sunday.
So it keeps going.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
But the back half of the schedule, Joe Oo, might
be the toughest half of any schedule of all time.
It's the only time that an NFL team has ever
ever played eleven win teams in six straight games in history,
in history of all time, of all time, they have.

(05:42):
They have six straight games against teams that won eleven
games or more last year, starting with Philadelphia in Week twelve.
It goes Philadelphia, Kansas City, Detroit, Minnesota, Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Washington, Bang Bang Bang bang bang, And.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
It's four straight games including Philadelphia, Kansas City, Detroit, and
Minnesota of team that won fourteen games or more the
year before.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Now, to make matters worse, two of those are on
short weeks too. Oh yeah, you play the Chiefs on
a short week, and then you play the Commanders on
a short week.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
You also play the Eagles on a short week because
that's coming off of Monday Night Football.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
You're right, So it's three of.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Those games off of a short week.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
I mean, the NFL did not do any favors on
the back half of the schedule.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
No, they didn't. And this is you know, you look
around by whatever metrics some folks use. This is one
of the most difficult stretches, I think in maybe NFL history,
when you're looking at teams from last year. But if
you're trying to find some of the positive wrinkles in this,
if you're a Cowboys fan, that sits out there. One.
You know, you get some of these games, sure, on

(06:43):
a short week's notice, but you also get a little
bit of a longer break between some of them too.
You know, between Detroit and Minnesota you get ten days off.
Between you know, Washington and your season finale, you get
ten days off. So there's the positive spin for you,
but there is really not a lot to love here.
If you're the Cowboys, you play the two teams have
played in the Super Bowl last year four days apart.

(07:07):
That's that's tough, man. It's a tough stretch.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
And then you go against the team that was arguably
the favorite to win the Super Bowl last year, maybe
the favorite to win it this.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Year ten days later, ten days later on the road
top of it.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Yeah, Luckily you get four of those six games at home,
and you got an opportunity to maybe establish home field,
but man, I have a feeling we're going to get
the middle of December and we're just looking at this team.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Gast We were talking about a gauntlet last year to
begin the season. You know, you had those games against
the Ravens, you had the games again, I mean Cleveland
at the time felt like a you know, part of
a gauntlet game. But now, obviously you have it towards
the end of the season where everybody's healthy, of course, right,
everyone's super feeling great towards.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
The end of the season, right, Yeah, by the time
we were in December last year, this team had already
had like more IR stints than any other team in
the NFC, Yeah, other than maybe the forty nine ers.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
So it is tough, it is, but it is the
NFL schedule that is in front of you, and those
are the games you have to play.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Yeah, have you do you remember seeing a schedule like this?

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Honestly, man, I've never been big on schedules to begin with,
even as a huge fan outside of this outside of work.
Is for me, it was always just like, oh, who
we playing this week? Okay, cool and just go out
and play, right, But when you're looking at the schedule
now kind of here in the building, it feels really intense.

(08:29):
I've never seen anything like this since I've been here,
which hasn't been very long. Three seasons now or I
guess four. This is just insane. And looking at all
the Thursday games that's crazy, followed by you know, short
breaks between games, like you just said, four days between
the Eagles and the Chiefs. It just bonkers. That's all

(08:50):
I have to say about it.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, you know, if we're looking at teams on this
list that I'm like, okay, maybe they're not going to
be as high as they were last season. The two
stand out to me as a Minnesota I think we
Minnesota's got so many questions marks just because JJ McCarthy
is going to be thrust in that starting role no
more Sam Donald. You know, Justin Jefferson is quarterback proof

(09:11):
and Jordan Addison has really stepped into his role as
a second wide receiver on that team.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
Yeah, it was really funny just to hear you say like,
no more Sam Donald, like it was a bad thing.
It was because he had such a great year last here.
But I don't know if anybody in the NFL expected
that to be a year ago.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yeah, a year ago if you had said that, well,
yeah no, that's been like okay, all right, all right,
I'm down.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Yeah no.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
But I mean, seriously, it's when you hand the reins
off to a rookie quarterback who's coming off a major
injury like JJ was, everything's kind of up in the
air and you don't really know what that's going to
look like. And then defensively, that's a separate conversation. And
of course, you know the other team is the week
after that in the Chargers. You know, I'm never gonna
necessarily bet against a Jim Harbaugh team being consistently a good,

(09:54):
physical football team. But do they feel like they've got
enough now to be to compete at the top of
the NFC and to get back to the playoffs again?
You know, what does that team look like? I think,
you know, look at a Maryon Hampton. That guy just
screams Jim Harball, just screams Jim Harball. But are they
a team that has enough on the defensive side of
the football personnel wise to be able to compete with

(10:17):
the top in the NFC. So you know, both of
those games are at home plus there, but you know, Philly,
Kansas City, Detroit. You know, Detroit losing two coordinators, how
much of an impact does that have. I think their
personnel is kind of way too good in terms of
there to for there to be a massive drop off.
Like when you've got Jamir Gibbs and I'm and Ross

(10:38):
Saint Brown, You're gonna figure it out.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Arguably the best roster in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Absolutely from top to bottom. They are Philly loaded.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
I would throw them with Philly.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Those two are they're going to.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Be and you get to face them three times.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And you get total some three times and then you
know the Commanders too, I mean, as good as they are,
and I think they got better this offseason. Two. Dallas
played the Commanders well. Last year. I would say Jaden Daniels,
who was excellent and so much fun to watch, probably
had two of his worst outings of the year against

(11:11):
the Cowboys. They just had his number both times. I know,
the second the last game, he was kind of like, okay, whatever,
we're in the playoffs, so we're going to pull you early.
But in that first game he kind of found his
footing towards the end when that bonkers game started to
get calls itself, Terry Mike Zimmer. You got to give
him credit. He did a good job of being able
to limit him and take him away. And you know, now,

(11:33):
do you feel like, do they get the Commanders in
that second game at a point where Dallas is healthy
enough to have guys who can keep him in the pocket,
like a DeMar Von over shown or something like that,
to be able to kind of limit me.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Kenneth Murray, I know he's got some speed too, Yeah.
I mean you go up and down the schedule and
even some of the early games on the schedule, I
think green Bay at home.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Green Bay has never lost at AT and T Stadium
in the history of their franchise.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
They have never lost pouch including the Super Bowl, which
was not against the Cowboys, but since then they haven't
lost in a regular season game at and T Stadium.
You take the Commanders at home on August nineteenth or
October nineteenth, I mean, that's another tough game Denver on
the road.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Who knows what Denver is going to be this year?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Who knew they were going to be what they were
last year too? If you had to pick one game
out of what I would consider the Gauntlet of the
schedule the week twelve through week seventeen. If you had
to pick one game that was most likely for Dallas
to surprise somebody, who would it be.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
I'm going to go I kind of picked this game
already on Hanging with the Boys last week. It was
brought in sort of at the tail end of the
third segment, but talking about how important it would be
to beat Green Bay at home, how important that game
would be for not only the Cowboys, but for Schottenheimer's

(13:00):
coaching tenure his first year as head coach. Is he
able to exercise some demons and finally beat the Green
Bay Packers here at home for the Dallas Cowboys. I
think that, to me would be a litmus test not
only for him, but for the team as well and
getting them back into they're winning ways. Obviously, we had
three twelve win seasons last year. Notwithstanding, I think you

(13:23):
kind of can. If you get a good game out
of that game, you're able to carry that over. It's
like you exercise that you've conquered that goal. Let's see
what Philly Holton store for us later on in the schedule.
Let's see what the Lions holden sore Force, who we
have had really decent games the last two times. I mean, granted,
actually last year was terrible.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yeah, but we'll talk about it. We'll talk about twenty two.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
But the year before that, I mean, that was an
excellent game. So I don't know. I feel like, at
least if you can conquer that, man, the rest of
the schedule can really open up for you if you're
playing good football.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Out Here's the kind of wild card I'll say that,
for lack of a better term, that can change everything
is does Dak Prescott stay healthy? If Dak Prescott's available
in that backstretch, then I think you like the Cowboys
and a lot more of those games than you would. Sure,
if he isn't, that's going quarterback. That's gonna be your

(14:18):
biggest thing. And I know that's kind of like a well, yeah, no,
duh type of comment, But when you think about this
team now, at the backup quarterback spot, you don't have
Cooper Rush, who has gone in and played games for
you in one games for you. You don't have Trey Lance,
who has gone in and played a game for you,
but he's still there. Sure, you know, you've got two

(14:40):
newer guys and a Joe Milton who's still learning at
the playbook and learning the offense and has only played
in one game in his entire career. And you've got
Will greer So.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
And Will Grew hasn't played in a game since twenty nineteen,
in a regular season game nineteen.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
So that's what can really kind of take all of
this and just throw out the window. And again, it's
an obvious comment, but you know, with the fact that
Dak Prescott's only played two fully healthy seasons in the
last five years, it's something that you've got to consider.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
So what would your game be in terms of the upset? Yeah,
which one do you feel like is most likely to happen?
Since you said Minnesota earlier, pick another game.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Okay, I'll say they. I think they can get the Chargers.
I think that's a game where this is going to
be an all around tough team and as long as
Jim Harball's there, they're going to be a good defensive team.
They're gonna run the ball well. I think that plays
into what the Cowboys will be able to have from
a strength perspective, at least on the offensive side of

(15:41):
the ball. I think they'll be able to have success
against that defense. What concerns me about that game is
their ability to stop the run. But I think that's
one that the Cowboys can surprise some people late in
the season. It might be a game that they might
be in a position where, hey, they need this game
to make the playoffs, or they need a win to
get a better seed, if they're at that point in

(16:03):
the season. If they're at that point in the standings,
So give me the give me the Chargers game.

Speaker 6 (16:09):
Upset, Yeah, maybe a little bit wet, a little bit
of a wash.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Yeah, I mean that might be a little bit more
even than you'd think. But since you took Minnesota away
from me, that's that's the one that I would feel most.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
What about you, Klein?

Speaker 4 (16:21):
I was asked the question the other day, what's the
most important game? The most important game? And it's funny.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Because what would the coach's cliche be for that if
you were to ask a coach the next one?

Speaker 3 (16:33):
The next one?

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Right, The most important game to me is setting the
tone on Thursday, September fourth against Philadelphia and wink one.
And it's not a cliche. It's the fact that it's
the first game of a new era. It's the first
game with your starting quarterback back in healthy in quite
some time. I mean, god forbid something happened before then,
It's the first game where your full strength, and it

(16:55):
might be the only game where your full strength throughout
the schedule.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Cowboys were incredible last.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Year in the open.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I don't know if you remember back to Cleveland and
how much they just spanked the Browns on the road,
and it just never looked the same after that, whether
it was because of injuries or gameplay whatever, it may be.
No excuses for what happened after that, But in Week
one it all clicked.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
If it clicks again and.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
You're able to steal one from Philly, securing at least
a split in that series after what they did to
you in twenty twenty four, I would feel so much
differently about any part of the schedule because I'm confident
going in and seeing the Giants and the Bears, and
things get dicey after that you get the Packers. I
could see this team being if they beat the Eagles

(17:39):
week one, which is a huge if I could see
them being five to one going to Washington or welcoming
in Washington against the Commanders on October nineteenth, So if
you're able to start like that with the culture that
they're trying to build across the building, it doesn't matter
what the back half of the schedule is going to hold,
because you have that type of mentality that winners my

(18:00):
set from the early and from the jump, and you
did it against the reigning Super Bowl champions, spoiling their
party where they raise a banner and they get their
rings and all of that sort of thing. It would
be the sweetest of sweet victories that you could possibly
have outside of the playoffs, and it would be in
Week one. So yeah, the coach is cliche is the
most important game is the next one.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
But in my opinion, I think you have to.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Start it like that and the rest will fall into place.
Because if you tell me that you can beat Philadelphia
on the road in primetime night game where that fan
base is going to be as charged up as they've
ever been charged up before, in the first game of
a coaching staff, a brand new coaching staff, then I
don't think you can look at the rest of the
schedule and say you can't win a game, that it's

(18:42):
impossible for you to win a game.

Speaker 5 (18:43):
What if it's another situation where it's Tampa Bay opening opener,
you know what I mean, sure, where it's a really
really crazy game. Yeah, if you really close game and
you lose.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
I mean there's I'm of the mindset the the Nate
Newton school of teaching, where there's no moral victories, but
there's things you can take positively from certain elements, and
I think you would take positivity out of that. Even
if it's a close, heart fought game all the way through,
it's gonna end up as a loss, and that sucks,
and that's just you're gonna have to get over it
because you lost the game.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
You weren't better than them in that day.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
But if you can find things to build on, you
start with next week against New York.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Then you go the following week.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
With another road test against the Bears, who were going
to be much better than they were last year in
the NFC North. I don't think it would be a
win in my book, but it would be a positive
thing to look at, and we'll talk about it on
the show when it happens.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Of course, you can't say it's a win, yeah, but geez.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
If you can go in there and make it close
against that team, yeah, then you feel like you're at least.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
In the right heading into the right direction, and go
in that direction.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
You can say they're heading in the right direction. I
think that you know, at least how I view Week
ones is this is not the tell all in terms
of what your team is. And that's especially going to
be the case for Dallas because they're not going to
have Trayvon Diggs, They're not going to have Marvion over.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yeah, this is not not even full strength.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
At that, not at all. It's not This is not
going to be what the Cowboys are going to look like.
And you know, who knows what happens in training camp
as full strength you're going to get. Yeah, that's very
true because by the time though, by the time those
guys come back, other guys will be gone. No, you're
absolutely right. But nonetheless, you know, I completely agree with you.
If you make that a game and you show that
you can compete, that's a great sign for this team

(20:24):
and this coaching staff. But it's also a game that
this coaching staff is going to have two four months
to prepare for and they know that they're they're going
to go and get it. So you know that that
those opening games of the season. I think can can
kind of sway you a little bit into thinking, Okay,
this team is this. I think Cleveland last year was
a great example that obviously injuries and everything completely made

(20:45):
things different for the Cowboys going on later in the year.
But you know, once we get through that third game
against Chicago and even really I think the most telling
game the make or break early game. I think you
could categorize it as is that Green Bay game in
Week four, then we're really gonna know what this team is.
If they come out of that stretch at three and
one or somehow four and oh, then I think we've

(21:06):
got a really good football team on our hands. But
if they go two and two or one and three,
I wouldn't be surprised by that either.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Yeah, just because there's a Lions fan in the chat
giving all the Cowboys fans some flak right now, I
just would like to say that the most possible upset
on the back half of the schedule is Lions on
the road, because Dallas just likes to win in Detroit
and win against Detroit do pretty often, Yeah, do it
pretty good. I Mean, I know last year didn't go
Dallas's way, but if you look back at the next one, two, three, four, five,

(21:37):
six meetings going back to twenty thirteen, Dallas was six
and oh going.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
Into that game last year.

Speaker 5 (21:43):
Oh wow, that seems like a lot lions.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
So I just I think they could get the better

This segment of Talking Cowboys is brought to you by

Back alongside Tommy Yurs, Josh Rodriguez, Chris Beam in the back,
I'm Kyle Yeomens we have our YouTube comment of the
day out of the first segment. I'm gonna give it
to Camo. I liked this comment. It's all about confidence.

(24:47):
Surprise you saw it. I know it's just a one
liner because it's Oh, it's Camoot. It is a one
liner who cares everybody getting the belt talking about the
Cowboys schedule in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
I like the confidence. I like it.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
There was one comment that just flowed in a minute
ago said they disagree that the Bears are going to
be better than they were last year. They were five
and twelve last year. I I don't think they're better
than the Cowboys. I just think they're going to be
better than five and twelve, even with the first year
coaching staff. I know there are some people out there
that might think that there's a chance they win that division.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
There's no way that wait, they win that division.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
With them now Vikings and the Bear or excuse me,
the Vikings, the Packers and the Detroit Lions, who are
not very good and I just don't want to say
anything positive about them specifically because of who's in the comments.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
That's a tough division overall, it's a tough division.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
I still think they're a ten win team though. I
think they've got that kind of group. I think I
love what they did at the offensive.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
That's a five win improved.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
I know, I know that's as good as last year.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Yeah, I think they're twice as good. Oh man, I
don't know.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
I would like to see it. They deserve a decent
team in Chicago.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
They've been waiting for a good team.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
For Chris Chris, what do you think? What's the Bear
record next year? Chris Chris, I've got to turn down
so much stuff and.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Oh yeah, no, you got a minute. What do you think.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Up? He's got to turn more stuff down.

Speaker 5 (26:12):
He's turning it down.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
I have to turn stuff up.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
And and sorry, I'll say not looking at their schedule,
I'll say they go seven.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
Wins next year.

Speaker 5 (26:23):
Seven wins, that's better.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
Yeah, I'd say seven or eight. It's two wins better.
There's a chance they could fight to be five hundred
next year.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
I like it. Yeah, I like seven.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
You're thinking seven, I'm thinking seven. I think that I
think they improve more than that.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
I'd say eight or nine. There, they're gonna be right
on the cusp of five hundred. Right right around there
is where I'll throw it. But all right, OTA's in
the buildings. Starting yesterday, the Cowboys got on the practice field.
It's the first time the whole group has been together, rookies, veterans,
everybody on the field. Uh, who are some of the

(26:56):
guys that you want to see more of this week?

Speaker 5 (26:59):
It's like how Jones says, it's football players on a
football field. He does it every single time. Every time
you see Yeah, I try but.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
To the blitz, he's a good boys report.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
I like Jones. I like how he did a guy.
But Donovan Azraiku, let's see him. Let's see him. I
want to see how he can contribute to a defensive
line that is in desperate need of depth. Obviously you
want to see that. And then Tommy Arsh posted a
great article yesterday for depth chart on dallascobies dot com.
Please check that out. Where you have rookie defensive tackles

(27:37):
going up against each other.

Speaker 9 (27:38):
You have j.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Toya. Thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
It's really so we kind of got like tought on
that a little bit while we were in the locker room,
and it's almost like a d at the beginning it's like.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
A doya doya, doya doya.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
It's like a soft tea.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
It was really weird that you were there right whenever
he was talking about it, and so we were talking
with pr about it, and it's it's going to be
a weird pronunciation. I don't know what to officially put
it on there, but toyea is what the pronunciation is.
But it's supposed to be like an e, like a
like a soft tea. Yeah, doia what I heard at.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Least very interesting.

Speaker 5 (28:15):
And then you have Tommy King Basote as well, another
rookie that I mean, I.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Just want to didn't help us with these names?

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Did they?

Speaker 5 (28:22):
No? Not at all. But I think we got it
for the most part.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
We did. We can learn you nailed it.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
We can grow and learn you nailed it. Thank you.
I want to see how that battle plays out. I
want to see how the depth is able to step
up this year because we just simply did not have
it last year and we desperately needed it. Uh So
let's just see how these battles work out.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Let's uh, let's go through Tommy's ot A article yesterday
and answer the five questions the monitor as Cowboys began
ot a, how about will Micah Parsons participate on the field.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
That's what I wish I knew the answer to. We're
going to find out here in a couple hours. But
I would not be shocked if he doesn't, just because
you know, kind of hinted at it in the sense of, like,
you know, I'll be around in terms of, you know,
being able to learn and walk through it, see the playbook,
be around my teammates. I don't know if that means

(29:13):
he's going to necessarily partake in practice and those drills
and those kinds of things as he goes through this
contract extension talks with the organization.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
And we don't know if he participated yesterday either because
we weren't able to see you.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
We did practice, we are not so today it'll be
the telltale sign.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Let me ask you this. Do you guys care at
this point? No, we're not playing a game today.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
I don't care, not right now. If he's out there,
I'll see him out there later on.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
He's out there, I think if he's not there by
training camp, of course, and that's I would for right now.
I think you have you're better off per se. But
any any kind of work that you can get with
a new coaching especially with the new coaching staff. Any
kind of work you can get in together with your
new teammates and everything like that is going to help

(29:58):
you because then it'll who's Matt Eberflus and his staff
to get a look of like, Okay, this is what
this personnel package is going to look like, here's what
we can do when Mike is on the field. Here's
what we can do when he's on this side of
the ball, or what he's on this side of the ball.
When he's not there, it makes it a little bit
more difficult in terms of, like, Okay, obviously, since he's
their best player defensively, he's going to be involved in

(30:22):
so much of the conversation that when you remove him
from that equation, you're putting yourself on a spot of like, Okay,
we may not be in this situation a lot, but
here's what we're going to be doing. And so that
to me is the kind of catch with that is
you want your best players to participate in that kind
of stuff. And you know, Jerry Jones talked about with
us at the NFL's league meetings. We want to see
Michael Parsons grow more as a leader, and we've seen

(30:44):
the locker room shuffle and all kinds of things like that,
and Mike has talked about wanting to grow in that
department too. Yeah, it would be a massive step in
the right direction if he's out there participating with his team.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
I would love to see him out there. Don't get
me wrong. I would love to see him out there because,
like you said, everything he's doing out there on the field,
this something positive for the team, something positive as a unit.
But if you're asking me if it's going to affect
him as a player, I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
No, I don't think so either. I think there's more.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
He's not sitting on the couch podcasting or playing video games.
He's training elsewhere while he's also taking time away from
the facility.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
And I think that's important to quill any sort of
Devil's advocates that are like he's under condragt whise you
know they're participating. Yeah, I think it's it's safe to
say that, like, obviously he's going to get the work in.
And again, like we said before, just sort of open
this segment is like there's no game today, there's plenty
to learn. If he's out there, all the better, But yeah,
there's plenty of time to kind of work on that.

(31:40):
And if he's not that they're training camp, that's a
whole different conversation.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Yeah, I think they'll get a deal done and he'll
training camp will change things. But even mandatory mini camp
stuff like that, like the mandatory team activities, I would
love to see him there for that. I don't want
them skipping anything mandatory. But right now, at this point
in time, we're in the middle of June or excuse me,
middle of May. We're not been into JUNI yet. It'll
take some time and once they get it right from

(32:03):
a contract standpoint, they'll get there all right. Next question,
what does Ceede Lamb and George Pickens dynamic look like
on the field together. That's what I'm most excited to see.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Well going into it.

Speaker 5 (32:15):
We kind of saw it this past weekend, Tommy, I
believe you did an update on it.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Yeah, they hung out together at Kyler Murray's charity softball
tournament out in Arizona. And you know something that George
told the media when when we got to do a
conference call with him, and something that CD said too
is Hey, we're we're both ones, right like this is
this has been this conversation around Dallas, and even Stephen
Jones used the term wide receiver two or second wide receiver,

(32:40):
and you know, everybody thinks it's like it's it's.

Speaker 5 (32:42):
A tier list right of the hierarchy, Like.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
You've got to have this guy above this guy. And
you know, Ceedey Lamb and George Pickens are saying, we
can throw all that out the window. We've just got
two very good wide receivers lined up alongside each other,
which is true.

Speaker 4 (32:55):
Yeah, that I still think it's a one A one B,
which is still tiered.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Right. You know, you can tear it as much as
you want, and you know one's gonna have more production
than the other, and that's fine. But all your look,
if you're a Cowboys fan or if you are the Cowboys,
all you're looking for is for George Pickens to come
and take this offense to the next level, right, to
make some of the plays that the guys on the
roster from last year weren't able to make, right, like
those downfield shots that you know Dak Prescott loves the

(33:19):
seam routes and loves throwing in the seam. George Pickens
can can go up and get a ball in the seam,
and that that's what I'm looking for. The start of
OTA is the most is you know what kind of
routes are they running opposite each other? You know what's
George Pickens looking like from a separation standpoint. He hasn't
been great added for most of his career, but he's

(33:40):
just so much more athletic than everybody else that he
just goes and gets the ball and finds a way
to come down with it. So what does that look like?
And he continued to take the next step going into
a contract here, which is another motivating factor for him.
And then how does Seedy Lamb play off of that? Right?
Ceedee Lamb has been really good for the Cowboys after
the catch him just on quick routes where they get
the ball in his hand. Whereas you know, Pickens can

(34:01):
be the all right, we're going to try to take
a shot here kind of player where you go outside
the numbers and see if Dak Prescott put Ken put
the ball in the right spot.

Speaker 5 (34:09):
I just think having a player like George Pickens is
going to be beneficial to your team and it's going
to help in every way, in every way on the offense.
And you know, looking at even a player like Camante Turpin,
I think the opportunities for him will be more abundant
this year because you are afraid of those two receivers
on the outside. And just based on the interview that
they did from Kyler Murrays thing over the weekend, it

(34:31):
felt like they're they're on the same page. They're feeling good.
That's granted, without actually practicing on football field. That's actually
without playing a game. But I just think it keeps
defenses honest. I mean, they are going to see exactly
what CD and George Pickens are talking about. They're going
to see CD on one side and they're going to
see George Pickens on the other, and you have to
account for that.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
Yeah, And to your point with Turpin, it slots everybody
else into their role. Jalen Tolbert as a number two receiver,
I don't think any of us felt comfortable with him
being a number two receiver, but as a number three receiver,
as somebody who's the third option to make a play,
I think Jalen Tolbert's one of the better three receivers
top three receivers in the league right in terms of

(35:13):
a third guy on three yeah, third guy, third or
fourth guy on a depth chart. The depth now at
wide receiver looks fine. You are okay with it because
you have that second weapon, that second lethal, elite type
of pass catcher, because you still have the blanket for
Dak Prescott and Jake Ferguson. You still have him coming
back from an injury. Now he's had an entire offseason

(35:34):
healthy work with Dak Prescott. You get that connection back.
Hopefully he takes a step back to the Pro Bowl
caliber season that he had in twenty twenty three. Then
you turn around and you look at Turpin as a weapon.
You look at Jonathan Mingo as a red zone target.
Tolbert had seven touchdowns last year. If people forget how
effective he was in the red zone, even goal line situations.
He was effective, had the game winning catch against Pittsburgh.

(35:56):
All of that plays a factor now that You'reeorge Pickens
is in the fold. If you didn't have George Pickens
in the fold, I don't think you could talk about
Tolbert and Turpin and Mingo in the same light as
you can now because.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
You wouldn't be using him in their best practices.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Now you can use them where they are best utilized.

Speaker 4 (36:12):
Exactly where they can line up in where they're comfortable,
where they're proof lies in their best spot. I think overall,
proven is a big, big word for it. I think
those guys can be proven as depth receivers on your roster.
And now the Pickens is in the fold, they have
an opportunity to fall into that and have an impact
just like they have previously, just in a smaller role.

(36:33):
Speaking of impact, can Tyler Geiden, Mozzi Smith show flashes
of taking the next step? Couple first round picks that
people have their eyes on. I saw Mazzi the other day.
I will say he looks the part of a possible
either one or a three technique. You could really kind
of put him in the middle of both of those,

(36:54):
maybe even like a two technique type of body. He
looks big, he looks like he's been in the weight room.
We'll see him a little bit more today without the pads.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
On setting prs. Probably, dude, he looks massive.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
He definitely does so. I think there's one thing to
step in the right direction.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Tyler guid In another one.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Yeah, those are the two players that you look at,
and I think this is the second year in a
row that we've probably said, Okay, we want to see
more from Mozzie Smith. Of course, we want to see
him take that next step. And Tyler Guiden. It was
a roller coaster rookie season. It was I think more
down than it was up probably, but you know, with
that frame and the size that he's got, there's a
lot to work with there, and that's why you bring

(37:30):
in two guys who have been very good at developing
and taking guys to the next level on the offensive line,
and Clayton Adams and Connor Riley both at different levels.
Connor of course going from Kansas State where he's had
a lot of success on the offensive line with the
Wildcats over there, Couper bb being one of the examples
of that, and then Clayton Adams in Arizona when he's
had to work with some of those guys too. But

(37:51):
you know, the interesting thing with Mozzy Smith is when
Matty Reflucing his staff got here, I remember there was
a lot of chatter about, hey, we're really excited to
work with Mozzie Smith. Usually when you when you would
take this job, it's like, oh, we got Michael Parsons
to Ron Bland, Trayvon Dick, It's like that was excited about.
We're excited about Mozzi Smith and what we can do
with him. So that's not to say, all right, all

(38:13):
pro season for Missie Smith coming up, but I think
it's interesting that they pointed that out and that was
the first name amongst the many very talented players that
Dallas has on this defense. So another guy who's got
a good track record on the inside, especially with those
big one Texas, Aaron Whitecotton. You look at Quinn Williams
in New York, who you know. I think obviously Quinn
is a lot more versatile than Mozzy is than a

(38:36):
lot of the guys in the league are. But the
Jets had a pretty good defensive line and Aaron white
Connon was a big part of that. So if they
can take Missey Smith to the next level, then I
think you feel better about the defensive tackle position, because
right now, as it stands, I don't feel great about
defensive tackles at all, not at all. I mean, let
me let me read you the names the Cowboys have
at defensive It's.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
Not even I'll let you read here in a second,
but it's not even an if they can take Mazzie
Smith to the next level.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
It is a must they have to.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
With the way that this lineup and the depth chart
is a defensive tackle or else, it's going to be
the same thing as they were last year. They're gonna
be thirty second and stopping the run. Teams are going
to gouge them up the middle, and it's going to
be tough on your linebackers to stay healthy all season.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
Long read the list though, real quick.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
So it's OsO, Dicky Zuo, Mazzi Smith, Good, Solomon Thomas,
j Doya, Tommy A King Besote, Justin Rodgers, and Denzel Dackson.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
Defensive tackle room, Osa and Solomon Thomas as three techs.
I feel okay about. I think that's a good one
two punch of three tech. I don't feel good about
anything else.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
There no not and you should. I mean, until we
see you are. If you are coming into this season
relying on two seventh round picks to serve as important
depth pieces for you, that's not a great sign. I'm
not saying that Doya and a King Besota can't be
good for this team. They very well could, but that's
asking a lot of two rookies right off the bat

(39:57):
as soon as they get here. Yeah, and a team
that has struggled as much as the Cowboys do in
their front seven at stopping the run. That is, it's
a room that I think needs improvement. They can prove
me wrong, and that's fine. I mean, I'm sure the
Cowboys fans would want that, and the Cowboys would love
to see the growth in the next step. But there's

(40:18):
a lot to be There's a lot left to be
desired in that in that room.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
I think it's not like there season oververse gets some
one of the best run running attacks in the NFL, right.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Nah, you know Saquon Barkley kind of oh guy, you
know two thousand yard season last year? Got it something
like that?

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Man side bar to that.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
The one of my favorite parts of the NFL schedule
release is seeing all like the little easter eggs and
shots that other teams take at other teams. The Chargers
having the ghost of Saquon Barkley haunting the Giants in
the middle of like their room in their Minecraft schedule
release was hilarious.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
Yeah, it was so good.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
It just like pops out of the wall and it's.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Just Saquon haunting the giants, and that will haunt for
a while.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
Yeah, certainly will.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
All right, we're gonna take our second break.

Speaker 4 (41:03):
When we come back, we'll answer the other couple questions
on this list and continue taking a look ahead at
cowboys OTAs what else are we looking for on the
practice field momentarily when we come back with more talking cowboys.

Speaker 7 (41:16):

Speaker 2 (43:18):
To Talking Cowboys.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Back here on Talking Cowboys, Glad you're with us. Tommy Urrish,
Josh Rodriguez, Chris Bean doing great work in the back
of Kyle Yeomans. All right, we're going through Tommy's article
five questions to monitor as the Cowboys began. OTA's great article.
Go check it out on Dallas Cowboys dot com. You
can see a little bit more in depth even to
what we're giving at the moment. We've gone through receivers,

(43:47):
We've gone through MICHAEH. Parsons. How about how involved will
Dak Prescott be that's a big one right now. Where
do you feel like Dak Prescott's involvement should be at
this point in time coming back from the injury.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Seen him on the field a little bit, but not
like full speed.

Speaker 4 (44:03):
There's no pads yet, you think he should be fully
involved or just pitch count.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
At the moment.

Speaker 5 (44:08):
I think he's he's earned the right to do whatever
he needs to do on the field. I mean, obviously
they have him out there. You see him working out.
I mean I see him working out just about every
single day. He's out there, and he's active.

Speaker 3 (44:21):
And see it on social media videos too.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
Yeah, yeah, the social media videos. I mean he was
like catching puns out there, like just for fun, you know.
I Mean it wasn't anything serious at all, but like
he's active, he's having a good time clearly out there.
I think as involved as he wants to be in
OTAs he will be. And I think he's already on
the same page with coaches as far as like how
in fault he's going to be.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
He's been like an extension of the coaching staff, Like.

Speaker 4 (44:44):
Yeah, since he got hurt, even before McCarthy's era came
to a halted in the middle of the year or
in the middle of the off season. Now into the
Schottenheimer era, he was a big proponent for Schottenheimer to
be the head coach. Yeah, so he's going to give
everything he can to try and help Shottenheimer. I think
he's he's on the right track. He's putting in the
work for sure.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Yeah. Well, I mean going back to Shotty, I mean,
Dak Prescott was a big reason that Brian Schottenheimer's name
kind of got pushed to the forefront of the Cowboys
coaching search. He was a big advocate for him. They
have a great relationship and you know, Shoty talked about
when he got the job that they've got a relationship
to the point where they can have tough conversations too,
and they can push each other in the right direction.
Knowing Dak Prescott, excuse me, that's exactly what he's gonna want.

(45:28):
As far as how involved he'll be, I think the
Cowboys need to be cautious with this in terms of
you know, he's a guy that because he cares so much,
and Mike McCarthy talked about it with us several times,
he's a guy that can sometimes overwork and and do
more than he's supposed to. And all great players want
to do that. But when you're nursing an injury and you,

(45:49):
like I said, have only been played fully hit Nick Harris,
you got to can't call me during the show.

Speaker 3 (45:55):
I would say it's a bad idea, terrible idea.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
But you know, when you're coming back, like I said,
two healthy seasons in the last five years, you got
to be cautious and make sure that he's fully ready
by week one because that's what matters. Like we talked
about with Michael Parsons, like when he gets on the field,
you know, you can debate that it doesn't really matter
until trading camp. Dak Prescott, you can you can hang
your hat on. Okay, we've seen this guy play. He's

(46:22):
going into his tenth NFL season. He knows everything he
needs to know about our scheme. He's in the room
every day and he's still participating in practice. But we
don't need to have him taking every rep or go
on one hundred percent when he's still nursing back to
full health. We want this guy at one hundred percent
for seventeen games, so you can I think he played
a little bit more cautious with Dak Prescott.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
No, yeah, I think you can. And it was a
non contact injury to start, right. You don't want anything
else like that to happen, So continue to get him involved.
I think he's going to be really involved, just like
you said, based off of what we've seen.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
In the building.

Speaker 5 (46:54):
He's out there every single day.

Speaker 4 (46:56):
I think he'll be pretty much in the thick of
it as you would expect at this time of the year.

Speaker 5 (47:00):
And when I say out there, not with the clipboard
like he's run.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
Running around, got a jersey on and everything.

Speaker 4 (47:04):
Who can rise to the top in the running back
and corner back rooms.

Speaker 3 (47:09):
Now we just.

Speaker 4 (47:11):
Talked about defensive tackle. These two spots concerned me significantly.
When it comes to the Cowboys roster running back. I
like the veterans that they've had. I think Jaden Blue
can be a home run hitter at some point, but
it's not likely that you're going to rely on a
fifth round running back to be that guy off the
jump and to be a starting bell cow back or

(47:31):
even a change of pace back at this point in time.

Speaker 5 (47:33):
You say that, but I think that's a lot of
people's expectations. I think I think that's the fans expectations.

Speaker 3 (47:38):
That's unrealistic to think.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
And I think it's it's great if it happens, yep,
but the expectation of it would be unrealistic in my opinion.

Speaker 5 (47:45):
But I think we have to put it out there
that it's like, I don't think you want to go
into the season thinking that Jayden Blue is going to
be your every down back because he was not that
in college.

Speaker 2 (47:54):
Now he was not that.

Speaker 4 (47:55):
He never showed, but there's less tread on the tires,
of course, in around some great running backs. He had
a great run coach that's now coaching for some team
up north that wears blue and has a cat on
their helmet. There's a couple of things to kind of
keep in mind with him though. Is he had a
fumbling concern. He's not a physical back. There's a lot
of speed element to his game and a finesse element

(48:16):
to his game. He's gonna have to have to add
some size. He's going to have to add some physicality.
Pass protection is going to be a thing that they're
going to be concerned about early in his career.

Speaker 3 (48:26):
Running back corner. I look at and I.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
Say, there are still holes here, especially until Diggs returns.
He did put out a tweet yesterday that I thought
was kind of interesting, saying that he was returning quicker
than he thought. Initially, it kind of felt like he
was talking about his initial injury, like the one from
He was speaking in past tense, in past terminology, So
I don't know if he was talking about the first
time he had a major injury, but.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
This is a second time.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
So even if he does return earlier than expected, I'm
interested to see how he's going to fit into the
fold in this cornerback room.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
Yeah, and you know, if he can return earlier than expected,
that would be massive for Dallas because you know, you
look at the cornerback room, You've got Deran and Bland
in there, and then after that, it's really a lot
of question marks, like what are the Cowboys getting out
of Kyrie Elam who they traded for in the off season.
You know, does a fresh is a fresh start what
he needed to be more of what we saw when

(49:18):
he was coming out of Florida. Savone Revel the third
round pick from this year's draft. Is he ready to.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Go and been there to starting like that?

Speaker 2 (49:28):
Right? But he's been off to the side. He hasn't
been participating in any team activities and he won't as
he continues to recover from attorney cl but he said
he should be ready by training camp. So if he
goes through trading camp and does well, does this staff
trust him enough to start him on day one opposite
to Ron planned? And then, you know, the biggest thing
for me is who are you putting in the slot?
You know, with Jordan Lewis leaving this off season going

(49:50):
to Jacksonville, you know, do you look at Israel mcwamou
is that a guy that you want to put in there?
I know there's been some tretterary that's wherever he's out.
I know there's been a lot of chatter about Deron
Bland moving into slot. I don't see that happening. I
think that's less likely, but I think you can still
lay it out on the table. But those that position

(50:11):
the slot corner especially is going to be the biggest
question for me, just because I think it's a really
important role in today's NFL.

Speaker 5 (50:17):
I think that's the one answer that you don't really
find out until training camp. Until the start training camp
and when you see uh Savon revol Savone Rebel, Savone REVL.
I don't think it until he's healthy and on the
field and you know, taking reps. I don't think that
you really know the answer until then, because I think
you're banking a lot on how he's going to produce.
You're banking a lot on his production during the season

(50:39):
when you don't exactly know what he looks like in
the defense here.

Speaker 4 (50:42):
I don't think you can bank on anybody's production in
the cornerback room period because if you think of Deron Blan,
Trayvon Diggs, those guys have been injured, they've been out
of the lineup, they've been back and forth. Sure, Trayvon
did what he did a couple of years ago and
broke records with the interception. Same thing with Deron Bland
too years ago. Now broke records with the pick sixes

(51:02):
and had a great year. But they've had major injuries,
sometimes multiple in the case of Trayvon Diggs going into
this year, I don't think you can bank on any
of those guys because everybody that's expected to be a
starter right now had had some kind of injury last year. Bland, Digs, Carson,
and revel At the college level, all four of your

(51:23):
guys that could possibly be a starter in that room
are coming off of some level of injury, sometimes major injuries,
most of the time major injuries, and you're gonna have
to fit them in with the expectation that they're going
to be solidified in the cornerback spot.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
And I don't feel great about that.

Speaker 5 (51:37):
And that's exactly why I say I don't think that
question reveals itself or or it gets answered in any
way until camp. I don't think there's anything between now
and camp that they do until we get there on
the ground and then they start seeing.

Speaker 4 (51:49):
These You say the same thing, because I think I
could say the same thing about running.

Speaker 5 (51:53):
Back that I feel like it. I feel like we're
we're going to see something. I feel like we are
where we're at with running back. I don't know that
that change that all. I think it's you're going to
lean on Javonte Williams. I think he's going to be
your starter.

Speaker 3 (52:05):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (52:06):
I think Gavonte Williams is a little bit more juice
and we're giving him credit for Okay, I'm not saying
I would be. I'm not saying that he's, you know,
a Pro Bowl lock or anything like that. But I
think that he's got a little bit more left on
the tank than people think. Obviously, the injury passed with
him has been you know, really what what has changed things.
But we'll see what happens obviously, But you know, when

(52:27):
you look at a buy committee approaches, is what it
looks like the Cowboys are going to have to rely
on at least to start. I think Williams is your
spearhead there and then everything after that is is kind
of up for grabs. You know what kind of version
of Miles Sanders do you get? Do you get more
of the twenty twenty two Philadelphia Miles Sanders or do
you get more of the twenty twenty four Carolina Panthers
Miles Sanders. Right, that's an interesting one to look at.

(52:49):
And you know Jaden Blue watching him for since his
high school days at Cline Kane and then going to Texas,
you know, what he's able to do in the open
field with his speed and as a receiving back is
incredibly dangerous. And you know, in the open field he
is one of the harder guys I've ever seen to
bring down just because of what he can do. With
his legs and you know, making guys miss one on one.

(53:11):
But this is a guy who in his college days
had one game with eighteen or more offensive touches in
a game. So this is not a I'm gonna carry
the workload type of running back. Yeah, this is a
guy who you know, he can run in between the tackles.

Speaker 3 (53:27):
Think Tony Pollard coming out of Memphis.

Speaker 2 (53:28):
Yeah, he can run in between the tackles, and he
can slip out of the backfield on a wheel route
or on a Texas route and catch and run for you.
But he's not gonna be a guy who's gonna carry
the ball twenty twenty five times a game, which is
what it sounds like Brian Schotdheimer would be looking for,
because based on how much he wants to run the football,
he can give you the home run ability, but just
in a different way compared to some of the other

(53:49):
guys in the draft we were talking about, like a
Traveon Henderson or an Ashton gent or something like that,
just because his looks a little bit different. And it's
a good different, I mean, because he's so fast and
he can do once he gets the ball in space,
you know, But it does he is he able to
do enough and is he able to contribute enough? And
what Brian Schotenheimer's trying to do compared to what Steve

(54:10):
Sarkisian did a Texas to be able to find his
fit here. That'll be the interesting thing to watch. And
then of course Phil Maffa from Clemson is the other
wild card there. He's more of the you know.

Speaker 6 (54:19):
Bigger bodies, sugger bodies, get the yard right, pass protection,
and you know he's he's the thumper who can go
in between the tackles and have more success there.

Speaker 2 (54:28):
He's had a little bit better. He's a much better
history in terms of ball security compared to Jayden Blue,
who has really struggled with that. So it's a it's
a wide open room. I think behind Javonte Williams. But
like I said, I think Davonte Williams, I don't think
we've given him enough credit just yet. I hope you're right.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
I hope you are because I think he did some
things in Denver that was worthwhile, and and yes he
dealt with injuries there too and kind of had it
up and down ending. I just still don't feel comfortable
with either one of those positions, running back or corner.
I think so somebody from running back will emerge as
the guy. Now, does that mean they can't go get
some outside help or go sign somebody else. No, that

(55:08):
doesn't mean that that's going to end that. I think
it would take somebody being just through the roof for
that to be out of the equation.

Speaker 5 (55:14):
But aren't you at least a little bit surprised of
what they've done so far at running back? What do
you mean this offseason? I just mean, like, isn't any
of this? Is any of this surprising to you? What
they've done with the running back positions?

Speaker 4 (55:26):
Really really drafted a guy late, added two veterans. I
mean they've added veterans before. I think Javonte Williams is
probably the best of the veterans that they've added. Research
for think about guys like Royce Freeman and I'm trying
to think of even some of the other guys they had. Yeah,
like that was an undrafted free agent, Yeah, the same

(55:47):
kind of They.

Speaker 5 (55:48):
Haven't spent guys that are not gonna like blow you away.

Speaker 4 (55:51):
Correct, they haven't done the big move at running back
in since drafting Zeke. Really that was the last time
they did a big move at running back, and am
I saying you have to make a big remove at
running back. No, but you need somebody that's gonna sit
up there and run the football behind a revamped offensive
line and give you some confidence in pass protection, to
get your quarterback some time to throw, and to give

(56:14):
you a pass catch option out of the backfield. If
these three guys Blue, Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders can get
you that, then I think will feel Okay. I'm not
looking at this with the expectation of those three guys doing.

Speaker 2 (56:27):
That, though.

Speaker 5 (56:27):
Which of the guys most likely to do that?

Speaker 3 (56:29):
For probably Williams, Yeah, I would say Williams, and then.

Speaker 4 (56:32):
Blues probably in the second the competition with Sanderss guys
on a similar tier, mostly because Blue is gonna be
on a rookie deal. He's got a younger, quicker background
to him. He's also got a pass catching element to
his game. Sanders was almost exclusively a pass catcher out
of the backfield for Carolina last year.

Speaker 3 (56:52):
Was really where the majority of his production came.

Speaker 5 (56:54):
From, which is something that the Cowboys desperately needs They
need to incorporate in their offense. Non existent.

Speaker 4 (56:59):
Yeah, then that's where the running back by committee can
can work. But man, there's a lot that can fall
apart too, because what you might get in a positive
element from one player, you may give up in a
negative element in that same player exactly. It's kind of
inconsistive and take yeah, yeah, So that's gonna do it
for us though.

Speaker 3 (57:17):
Here on Talking Cowboys, I hope you had some fun
with us here.

Speaker 2 (57:20):
Over the last hour.

Speaker 4 (57:21):

for Josh Rodriguez, for Chris Beam in the back.

Speaker 3 (57:53):
Thanks for watching.

Speaker 4 (57:54):
