I Dostojevskijs berömda roman Bröderna Karamazov döljer sig en berättelse på bara nitton sidor som heter Storinkvisitorn. Legenden är författad av den intellektuella tvivlaren Iván Karamazov, som läser upp den för sin fromme broder Aljosha. Legenden utspelas under inkvisitionen i 1500-talets Sevilla, där kättarbålen varje dag tänds till Guds ära. När Jesus oförmodat dyker upp i Sevilla jublar folket, men för inkvisitorerna - som styr och ställer i just Jesu namn - blir han ett hot. Jesus ska kastas på bålet!
