The announcement coincides with Honor's preparations for an initial public offering and a surge in AI investment throughout China. Honor's move is also influenced by increasing competition in the Chinese smartphone market, where it has seen a slight decrease in market share.
The company is receiving significant backing from the Shenzhen government to support its research and development endeavors as well as overseas expansion.
