DJI recently released its "GoPro killer" - the DJI Osmo Action. I've been using this camera for about a week now - so how does it stack up to the GoPro Hero7 Black? Both do 4k video and 12 megapixel stills. Both have incredible image stabilization (with a slight edge to the Osmo). But what about timelapse, hyperlaps and the other features action cameras are now expected to have? We'll take a look in this video. This video is s...

This is a short film with video footage and stills with the Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master portrait lens. I thought I'd do something different for this video since I had so much good stuff from the Sony shoot. So this is presented as a short collection of visuals without me talking. If you want to see the full review - the video is below. Thanks to Sony for organizing the event at the Greenpoint Terminal Station which is an ev...

The Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master lens is the 31st lens in Sony's full-frame, e-mount lineup. I quickly fell in love with this lens - it is outstanding. Designed for longer portraits, this has some of the best optical rendering that I've seen on any lens to date. This is the ultimate portrait lens. Bokeh is excellent, it has outstanding sharpness and the autofocus speeds are impressive. This has the same XD linear drive system tha...

There was a huge surprise in the mail today! I get some amazing things sent to me by viewers. Today I got two Sam Haskins books that are fabulous! Sam Haskins was a British-born, South African photographer famous for his photo books in the 1960's. These featured his style of "in camera" montage images. His son Ludwig Haskins sent these to me. What an honor! Sam Haskins https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Haskins S...

Canon has just announced a new entry level, full frame mirrorless camera - the Canon EOS RP. The most interesting features on this new camera are the RP's small size and its price. Its the most affordable full frame mirrorless camera to be introduced in the last year. But this makes me wonder, what is the point of the Canon RP? It doesn't have any more features than the DSLR cameras that currently exists, so unless your requir...

This weekend I went to Marfa, TX to visit the Chinati Foundation. Of course, no photography allowed. I'm always the first to defend the right to photograph, but in this case I actually agree with the policy. Experiencing the works of art by Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain, Robert Irwin and many others - it requires attention. These are experience and environmental works that can't be reproduced in a photograph anyway...

This weekend I'm headed to Marfa, TX. Why? The main reason is Donald Judd. Judd is one of the leading minimilist artists from the 1970's and 1980's. While working in New York City, he started purchasing property in West Texas to display his large scale environmental works. Today, Chinati features works by Judd as well as Dan Flavin, Claes Oldenberg and Robert Irwin. I'm going to be vlogging my trip over the next few days...

Panasonic has officially debuted the first 2 mirrorless cameras for its full frame, mirrorless L mount - the Panasonic S1 and S1R. Or at least they sponsored an event which had cameras that sort of worked. Despite the lack of final firmware and the minimal shooting time for those who attended, we do at least have a preview of what these cameras will do. I feel fairly optimistic. Panasonic Lumix is going to be a major pla...

Can I actually use my iPhone and my iPad Pro to replace work that I do on my iMac? The bulk of the work I do on a computer centers around photography and video. The idea of working on mobile is attractive to me because I spend a good amount of the year traveling. When I’m not traveling, I find myself back in the office chained to the desk for long hours of editing. Ideally if I could find a way to make mobile devices actually ...

A recent video and article have been going around recently claiming a photographer was dropped from a job for Canon because she didn't have 50,000 followers on Instagram. This video really got my attention - in fact, it made me angry because not only is the information not clear - its suspect. And its generally wrong. I have a few thoughts on the matter… Original article: https://petapixel.com/2019/01/28/photog-canon-drop...
