Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dad, the sun is shining out cloud in the sky.
We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Some people boot on some skis, but we.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Would rather sit on down and talk some movies. We're
the Avid Indoorsmen. Come listen to our show. We're the
evid Indoorsmen at home, are on the go. We're the
Avid Indoorsmen.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
We hope you love its, so come on in and stay.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
We'll do our best to excuse myle the indoors man.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
What is happening?

Speaker 5 (00:41):
I'm Rob Lundquist and I'm Bu and we are the
Avid Indoorsman.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Hello everyone, Hello, we.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Got our first first movie of the year.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Oh my god, I'm so excited.

Speaker 5 (00:54):
Twenty twenty five, twenty twenty do this.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Let's do it?

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Are you?

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Oh bod, I'm good.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
I'm wearing a Minnesota Timberwolves shirt because I'm all in
on the Timberwolves. Now that's the only sport that's really
going on for me right this second. Yeah, that's our
vikings lost last night is when we're recording this.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, it will likely come up again. I mean maybe not.
Maybe it'll be before we record, but there's no way.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Crew.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
Yeah, the our two guests are huge Vikings fans, so
it'll definitely come up. It was a crazy season, yeah,
one of the rare fourteen win seasons, and then.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Just super I was surprised. I didn't expect that by
any means.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
I didn't either, Like I was like maybe, like I
felt like we could definitely lose, but I didn't think
we were going to get blown out.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah that was the only thing, even winning that many
games this year, Like, I didn't expect that at all. No,
but yes, I agree. I actually kind of thought we
were going to win, because that's how I am. I
don't know that I'm emotionally ready to really talk about it.
It's just annoying more than you. No, it's not a
great way to end the season. This is my biggest

(02:14):
gripe about it, which would have been fun to see.
I would always just rather lose, like, wow, we played great,
but they just they played way better, you know what
I mean, rather than feel like, well that sucked, Like.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
What where did this team come to? Right the last
two weeks?

Speaker 3 (02:29):
It's like, what I didn't even do here? Apparently you
know or whatever, but whatever.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
I hated that because like two years ago we were
thirteen and four and the whole time nobody was like,
this is a team to beat. And this year fourteen
wins and nobody was like, this is a team just like,
when are we going to be legit?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Maybe never, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Well, who knows, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Maybe next year.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
It's always maybe next year at least.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
The Timberwolves aren't very good either, so we got that
going for us.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
But that's what we're going. And I'm going to the
game tomorrow night. I'm gonna see Steph Curry in person.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
That's right, I forgot you said that.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Fun. I'm very excited.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, that'll be great. The Timberwolves are good. They're gonna
get better too, I think so, baby. Yeah, I don't know.
Who knows other than sports would have been watching you
been watching any movies?

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I have?

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Thank you for asking.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
I actually watched a new movie that might be up
for some awards. It was up for six Golden Globes.
Six it won Best Screenplay by Heavens. It's a movie
called Conclave.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Oh, I've seen this as well.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
So you saw it in the theater, didn't you?

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:41):
I think so? Yeah, Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
So I saw it because it's currently streaming on Peacock.
Lovely and really enjoyed it. It kind of felt like
it could have been a play. Yeah, but it turns
out it was a novel by Robert Harris.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Ray Fine is definitely the star in this.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
But you got the tuc the Tuach himself, who was great,
of course. Of course, you got John Lithgow, you got
Isabella Rossini, and yeah, it's so it's all about choosing
the next pope. In that process, there's some conspiracies, there's
some plotting, there's some it's like kind of a thriller.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
I thought it was really well done. It's definitely worth
checking out. And risa if you missed it in the
theater like I did, it's on Peacock.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Do you think that could win Best Picture?

Speaker 4 (04:34):
I think it's going to be up. I don't think
it will win.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
That's kind of how I feel too. It was good,
don't get me wrong. Like I enjoyed it. It's like
a political thriller or whatever. But yeah, best Picture, I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
I think it could be up, but I don't think
it has any real shot to win.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
I don't have a good gauge though at all on
what's going to win Best Picture this year.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
I feel like, yeah, I mean neither so except what
everybody's saying this list that Adre Brody is gonna be
way up there. And again I have not seen that.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Nope, I haven't yet either. Very cool though, love it.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
Yeah, what have you been watching?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I watched a new film as well. I went to
the theater and saw a little film called The Order.
You ever heard of it?

Speaker 4 (05:19):
No?

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Actually, I think I rented it. I rented it, That's
what I did because I was like, why isn't this
But this is Jude Law, Nicholas holt Ty Sheridan, and
then a bunch of other people are in it. It's
directed by Justin Kurzel, who I didn't really like know
ahead of time. But he's been around, I guess, doing stuff.

(05:45):
He did that Macbeth in twenty fifteen. I don't know
if you ever saw that back in the day.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
No, I've only seen the tragedy of Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Same, But people really liked that, the twenty fifteen Macbeth.
At least I feel like I remember that. But so
I wasn't super aware of this, but this is a
cool story. This is a sort of a suspense thrillery
kind of thing. It's all about Jude Law is an
FBI agent who works like all these giant cases, and

(06:17):
he goes out west to kind of like slow down
quote unquote and finds out that there are some white
nationalists that are in the sort of Idaho slash Montana area.
I don't remember exactly where it is, but it's that
northwestern area, maybe even Oregon or something. But and it's

(06:39):
all about him like making a case against this, and
Nicholas Holt is one of the dudes in this. What
we find out is like sort of a cult kind
of white nationalist group. Really well done, super interesting, based
on you know, true stories and all those things. I
really like this movie a lot. Was super interesting. It

(07:01):
was it was pretty fun to watch it. It felt
a little a little too pertinent to today for my tastes,
but you know, like it is what it is, and
uh yeah, I recommend it. I thought was really good.
And Jude Law is just I mean, he's great in everything, dude.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
And Nicholas Holt is just he's.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Working me everything.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
It's crazy, dude and everything.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
And I also didn't realize that ty Sheridan looks so
much like the Uh, what's his name? The Irish dude?
That's very very Keegan, Yes, Kegan. Look at a picture
of those two by side and they are very similar looking,
because there was a moment where I was like, that's
not him though, like like something's wrong? Is that him?

(07:44):
How could I not have heard them? You know? Interesting
those two are. They have a similar look about them.
Ty is not quite as good, but he's a very
fine actor as well.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
He's been in a bunch of stuff too. See you
can rent or buy it? Uh, yeah, it's it's not
streaming yet.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
I think I rented it on Prime Video because I
had like a sometimes you get like the you know,
ten dollars off or whatever, like credits if you order
things or whatever. So sure I did it on this
because I was like a Jude Law movie. I didn't
hear anything about this. This sounds interesting, so.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
She went for it.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
But yeah, check it out. It's called The Order. It
was very fun. I liked it nice. I think you'd
enjoy it. How about streaming? Have you been streaming anything? Yes?

Speaker 4 (08:29):
I have.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
I had talked about this in our last episode the
Best of twenty twenty four year in review.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
Oh I love it Available.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Now available now, but only our patrons are able to
check this part out. I finished a Shrinking season two,
like I told you, Oh my gosh, and I just
adored it. I loved this season so loving all the characters.
The chemistry between them is incredible. Yeah, I felt like

(08:56):
they found their there, grew very quickly.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Agreed.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
It's hilarious. It pulls at your heart strings. They had
me boohoo and pretty good at the end of this season.
I could watch so many more seasons of this. I
hope that they keep doing it.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yes, please.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
You know, they only did three seasons of ted Lasso.
I hope they do many more of Shrinking. I feel
like you could do more, you know, yeah, and still
have it be effective and fun. So I'm super super
into it. I was sad to see it and can't

(09:37):
wait to see more.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
I love that. Did you know that? Because I only
recently found this out, that that Brett Goldstein helped create
this show and I didn't. I didn't realize that I
never connected those dots or whatever.

Speaker 5 (09:51):
That was kind of why I brought up the ted
Lasso because yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah, did he help break that too?

Speaker 4 (09:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Oh, this guy's a master.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Yeah he was one of the writers, dude, and then
they were like, you know who would be good?

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Yeahs Roy.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
He so he threw his hat in the ring. It
sounds like for this show they asked him to do it.
He didn't, like, he wasn't pushing for it.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Which is funny that he was up for the Roy camp,
like he did so well at it, But that is
so not like what his persona is otherwise, like he's
he talked, he talked really high and just like he's
kind of a happy guy. So it's a really funny
character that he put on for had him as kind
of a British Kermit. There I noticed it sounds like

(10:37):
British Kermit. He's Kermit's cousin across the Pond, Across the Pond,
Basil Basil Bazzle the Frog. Yeah, I love it, but
that's what he sounds like.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Oh I do know, isn't that?

Speaker 3 (10:52):
I feel like I'm nailing it.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
You're nailing it, glad.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
We all agree. Yeah, check out drinking right now, because
it's check it out.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
It's the best. He's killing it.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Every single episode laughed. I mean, it was just so fun.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
They really got me at the end though, that last
episode man, just beautiful.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
I heard someone say this week talking about that movie.
They were like, I always knew Harrison Ford was a
was a movie star, right and like an actor and
a star and all these things. I didn't realize he
was such a good actor until the show and I
was like, that's kind of fit. Like he really flexes
some different muscles. I feel like in this I really

(11:34):
like it.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I'm with you, yeah for sure.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Last episode.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
The boohoos were a flowing Indeed, indeed, what have you
been streaming?

Speaker 3 (11:44):
I streamed a movie that just like couldn't couldn't have
been made for me anymore. This is a movie from Netflix.
It's called Our Little Secret. Have you seen or heard
about this?

Speaker 4 (11:56):
I haven't heard either of your ones.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
This is the Lindsay Low vehicle that just came out
last year, the guys Ian Harding Christ and Channowith I think,
isn't it?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yeah, she was the mother So those are like the
three probably biggest people in it.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
This is a Christmas one, right?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
This was a Christmas one? Yeah, So I watched it.
It's not good. It's very like Lifetime movie.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
I was gonna say I thought it was a Hallmark
movie when.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
You first, it's pretty close to that. The thing that
got me, well, One, I have loved Lindsay Lowen for
a long time, haven't seen her very much lately, so
that was fun. And Two it's a fun So the
elevator speech forward is two people are no longer dating,
but they dated for a long time. They both end

(12:48):
up with new partners at a giant Christmas party and
find out their partners are in the same family, and
so then they have to like interact and see that
and they keep it a secret and it's a whole thing.
And I was like, I've actually never heard of that
conceit for a rom com. And it's a fun it's
a fun premise.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
Like they were keeping the fact that they had dated, yeah,
a secret.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
They were like for some reason, they you know, when
they meet, they have the moment they're like, i've ever
met you, you know, like they panicked, and then they
have to sort of deal with the follow out of that.
It's a fun idea for a rom com.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
I liked it.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
And they fall in love yeah each other again, and then
they Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
To be honest, they could have made a better movie
with that conceit, but yes, and also just like so
many of these movies. It's like, why don't you just
tell them the truth? It's not the big.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Right, I think, right, like, yeah, communications cool, just say
it right.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Away and then it's not You don't have to keep.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Like, oh we actually dated?

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Yeah right, Oh my god, this is weird but whatever movie?

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Yeah right.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
And I also being from a small town, like the
people dating people who are now dating this small pool
such a such a non factor in a small It's like, right, well,
I mean.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
That makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
You guys are friends, you know, right, Yeah, yes, so
it happens. But uh, yeah it was. It was pretty good.
I liked it. I don't know, wait till next Christmas
because it's very Christmas eve, so you might like, yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
I'm out of the Christmas season now getting out.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Don't rush out and see what I did? Enjoy it?
Well that's good, but yeah, what do you think should
we do? If you plug our runs? Let's plug it up, bro. Nice.
You guys can visit us as always over on the
Twitter machineere we're at avin Indorsman with a Z. I
can go to Facebook dot com. We're available on Instagram
and TikTok. I think we have a Blue Sky account.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
We do you have a Blue Sky account from.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
What I understand, Uh, we're all over the place, gang,
so come on out and say what's up. But if
you really want to hang out and be part of
the crew, the spot to.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Go Patreon dot com slash the it endorsement. Yeah, it's
a great time on Patreon. We love our patrons. We
give them lots of perks. One of those perks is
getting a shout out here. So let's give a big
shout out too. Marsha Grisiac, Mary Fox, Ninette Walkley, Yoham,
brost It, Jackie Houston, Debulk, and Noel Flores. You guys

(15:18):
are wonderful. Hell yeah, thanks for being patrons. And another
perk we'll give our patroons is an extended version of
every episode that we put out. We'll do a top
five draft that pertains to the movie we're talking about
in this one. Shockingly, bugs, let me know, we've never
done a top five monster movie draft.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I was as surprised as anybody, honestly. I mean, it's crazy.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
It's crazy.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
So I feel like we'll kind of we didn't really
say what constitutes on Monster, so we're gonna have to
chat about that a little bit when we're doing it.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
But yeah, hopefully nothing crazy comes. You know, we'll be
pretty lax, I'm sure, but.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
I'm hoping because otherwise my list is pretty short.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Yeah. I think it'll be pretty obvious cool.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I don't know, we'll.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
See, we'll find out.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
It'll be fun, but there's a crap ton of them,
so right, or at least I think there's a crap
ton of them. We'll find out. That's part of the fun,
so make sure to stick around for that. Do it
coming attractions. I don't actually remember what's next. I shouldn't
have said that. We just said it.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
It's a movie game.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Night, movie game night. Duh.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Yeah, movie game night by the way.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, well movie game night to start off the year,
So stick around for that, and then we got a
whole bunch more movies coming up after that, so that'll
be real fun. But we're here today to talk about
a monster movie that I think is in more than
just plot, is a monster movie because it's so much fun.

(16:54):
We're here to talk about Tremors today gang a silly
good time. We'll be had by all. And we had
to get just two of our favorite little monsters here
with us. They're beautiful, they're lovely. They chase us around
whether we want them to or not. Let's give it
up once again for Benny Ellich and Adam Renegade Wilson.

(17:15):
What's up, guys? What lovely? You guys are lovely. Nice
to see your beautiful faces.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
About a bad sexual episode I had last.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
I heard that or the right one came out of
nowhere like a graboid. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
Wow, doing some segues already.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
I I like snake oid better.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
But snake oid like a special kind of hammer.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Homember Walter says that there're trying to throw out.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Good.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Hi guys, Ben, how's the beginning of the year been
for you?

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (18:04):
Good. Benny's got a little bit going on.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Busy, busy do I have? Oh?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
I think you got a little movie coming out.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
Oh, just a major motion picture that's coming out, No
big deal.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Yes, I'm probably gonna for about four seconds. He can't
cut you stage true. This is Stephen Sober. Yeah, sorry,
and that's true. He can't cut me this time because
he cut me in the one before. He cut me
out of Full Circle on HBO, right, and then gave
me this part in this movie.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
Which in turn has come full circle and you're on screen. Now, great,
what if he just keeps me bring it back next time?

Speaker 2 (18:47):
You shouldn't plug it just in case.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
Now we're still plugging.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
It's coming out tomorrow that people are listening to this,
which is pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yea excited, But it's a cool concept. It's Steven Soberg
loves a high concept. It's called Presence and it's about
it's like a scary family in a house situation, but
you are watching it from the point of view of
the presence. Wow.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, that's very that sounds bad.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
I saw a trailer for it before something. It looks
very scary on Renegade's list.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Me.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
You guys don't like the scariest Yeah, they don't like scaryes.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Also, speaking of Steven Soberg, he's my one degree of
separation with mister Kevin Bacon. Nice hell yeah, because he
was in sex Lives of videotape. Oh yeah, and then.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Oh the nick I never saw that, So there you go.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
I love that. Is that what our game is going
to be? Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? Yeah, we already
it's done, Benny one.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Thanks for listening.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
I enjoy great outdoor indoors, indoors.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
It's inside poop.

Speaker 3 (20:07):
I always cut it when I screw those up.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Don't worry.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Well, that's fun. Check that out. That's in theaters only,
I assume, right, I think. So it's got.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Probably for you know, ten minutes, and then it'll be
on yeah, on the stream.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Go see it in the theater. Tell everyone you're only
there to see Benny Ellach. We'll get back and then
we'll get back to him, Sammy. I mean the check cleared, right,
What do we care at that point? I mean, I
don't know's.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Another credit on the IMDb. Correct, love it?

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I hope you're in it. I hope you're in there.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Thanks.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Well, great, boys. I think we should get started on
this movie because I'm afraid we might talk about it
for a while. It is celebrating its twenty fifth anniversary.
Just a fine film.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
Callirty thirty fIF calculator boy.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
I don't know, well, I stupid it's from ninety Yes,
that's thirty years ago.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Yeah, fifty pound man, I can say that.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
Yeah, nice, agreed, you should see this out? Never mind? Okay, great?
Uh well, Rob, will you geta started with Just a
rough synopsis I sure can.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
Repairman Val McKee and Earl Bassett are tired of their
dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada.
But just as the two try to skip town, they
happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned
seismologist studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help
of an eccentric couple, the group fights for survival against

(21:49):
giant worm like monsters hungry for human flesh.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Nice great read, great read. Thanks, I could have been
on the trailer. Good work.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
Hey, thanks cold I was reading it. Oh yeah, it
was very cold.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Yes, everything we do here is cold. That's why it's
to such a lofty degree. Let's rush on over to
rotten tomatoes now and hear what they did to say.
Critics have this coming in guys at eighty eight percent.
Shocked by that. I can't believe it.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
I thought you were gonna wow.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
I thought so too, Like I just assumed they would
pan it. They did not. Audience members have it at
seventy six percent. So yeah, if you would have asked me,
I would have said those numbers were reversed.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
For happened so often.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
It's very confusing. I don't know how it works. I
don't know.

Speaker 5 (22:42):
It was a critic and I believe I believe the
IMDb is at like a seven to two, which is
very good.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Great, That is great, good. Nice. Yeah. I feel like
movies that I loved as a kid are usually pretty
critically banned. Oh yeah, but not this one. And we're
dangerously close to the next little Guy here, So let's
go in and let's talk about our hot take.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Hot take. Ooh, that's a hot take.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
That's a hot take about spicy graboid elephant gun. I
don't know. I don't know what's spicy about this movie.
They're in a desert. Yeah, it's good to a good start. Professionally,
I will go first. I loved this movie as a
kid and continue to love it to this day. I

(23:31):
think it's really fun. I did not remember that it
is very horror movie adjacent at the beginning, and then
I feel like they kind of go away from that
a little bit, like it turns into something slightly different
to me. I don't know, I don't know how to
explain that. But at the beginning, it's very monstery and scary,

(23:52):
which was still fun to watch. But I just don't
remember that. I feel like I remember the Shenanigans more
than anything in this movie. Sure, I love the saccharin
version of you know, the sort of doomsday or motif
of the gun nuts. That was fun back when they
were harmless and just a nice, a nice little crew.

(24:15):
Rebo was wonderful in this I loved. Yeah, I mean,
all the people were really fun. I feel like this
movie tows the line really well between like monster movies
slash horror and then also still pretty enjoyable. Everyone's pretty charismatic,
and you have like a fun, a fun little swath
of characters that you kind of believe are, you know,
just in the middle of this tiny town in the West,

(24:38):
And I think that's really fun. But yeah, I think
this movie's great. I had a great time rewatching it.
It was super fun. It's been a long time since
I've seen it now, which was really It felt very
fresh and cool. It made me think that they whoever
wrote this had to like the Sandworms from Dune back

(24:58):
at that point because it had been out for a
long time. But I mean they're similar, so that would
make sense. But yeah, I think that's pretty great. My
hottest take on this movie though, is why did we
all just accept that there's only three? I mean, I
know she proved there was at least three because they
were happening at the same time, but they were four.

(25:21):
Oh yeah, that's right.

Speaker 4 (25:21):
Four tough.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Three left at the point where they talk about we
have these three modules or whatever. But like everyone was
just like, yeah, fucking three left. We're good, We're cool. Nope,
there can't be anymore none.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
That's fun. You gotta save that for the sequel after Shocks.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
That is true, which is great. I really desperately wanted
to watch all of them, but I was scared I
wouldn't be able to separate them, so I waited. Yeah,
she's smart, she knows about things.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Noise, noise on the ground.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Yeah yeah, so uh yeah, that's it. I like this
movie a lot. That's my hot take, hot take ooh ouch.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
I grew up with this movie as well. I watched
it a bunch with my dad, loved it. It's probably
been thirty years since I saw it last and still
had so much fun with it. It's written by a
guy named S. S. Wilson who was big in the
eighties and nineties. He wrote Short Circuit. He also did
another one that I loved called Heart and Souls. Did

(26:27):
you guys watch that one?

Speaker 4 (26:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (26:28):
And the director directed this. Underwood love that movie. I
don't think Hugh's just seen it either.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
My mom loves that movie.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
I loved it. He also did Wild wild West as well,
which is a bummer, but.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
She also loved.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
But I thought this was written really well. It was
great pacing, well developed characters. I thought in this, you know,
for a silly movie, I thought it was pretty Ron Underwood,
Like you said, he directed it. He immediately followed this
movie up with City Slickers, one of my all time shaves.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Which is great. He just stayed in the desert. He
was got better idea.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Right.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
Yeah, it looks like now he pretty much exclusively does television,
but still doing it. This movie, I felt like right
amount of funny and scary. It also doesn't seem like
they spent a bunch of money making it. The practical
effects though still like totally worked. Like the cinematography of

(27:33):
the you know, those fast shots like following the ground
like pretty effective, you know, and not needing a bunch
of CGI. I was impressed. I feel like even if
I had never seen it before that I still would
think that this movie was a good time. I am
biased because all that nostalgia, but I think it's legitimately

(27:53):
a really good time still.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
I wonder that a lot about movies from when we
were kids. If absolutely, if I'm just love it because
it's so deeply ingrained in me, or right, if I
objectively would still think it.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
Was good, Yeah, I think this one would be up there.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
Now.

Speaker 5 (28:08):
There is one thing, hot take. Today's technology makes this
movie not really work at all, with you know, cell
phones and being you know, just the internet being able
to be like, hey, there's this crazy.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Wor world you could do it if they're in the desert,
and maybe there's a way, Yes, maybe for sure.

Speaker 5 (28:29):
Another funny thing I saw on the internet that first
scene where fred Ward is in the sleeping bag and
Kevin Bacon Yell's stampede and then he falls.

Speaker 4 (28:39):
Off the back of the truck.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
The sleeping bag he like looks like a graboid and
he's falling off that's a truck, and it's like totally
foreshadowing the end of the movie.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
I also never realized that they're in the exact same
spot as late as the end of the movie. In
the beginning, Like I didn't until this rewatch, didn't realize
that that's fun.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
I like to I saw that.

Speaker 5 (29:01):
I can't take credit for it, but I thought that
was really cool.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
That was original.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Guys, it's me.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
I. We're gonna take those for yourself because I'm I'm
sure no one was going to go research that after
the pod maybe.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
Though maybe it was a rod.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
We appreciate your honesty, yes, absolutely, but yeah, super good time.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Love this movie, love it hot take, love it all right, boys,
but you would like to go first?

Speaker 2 (29:31):
All right? Uh?

Speaker 5 (29:32):
You know how die Hard kind of started its own
genre of die Hard on a bus on a plane.
Benny and I were actually kind of talking about that recently.
I think this is Jaws with giant worms. Ye that
love that takes obviously the the obvious answer is that

(29:53):
they're a small community being terrorized by a giant monster.
But more so, like how this movie shot with the
less is more like, the less you see of the
worms and graboids, the more effective it.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Is not to interrupt. But I think that's utue to
your point why the opening is more scary because you
don't know what's going on, the points coming.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
You don't see them for the first what thirty minutes,
it's like those little poofs of smoke and like the
the fence post breaking is much more effective than if
we were actually to see these giant worms.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Yeah, I do love that.

Speaker 5 (30:31):
I just think it's a testament to what Ron Underwood did,
because this could have been a terrible, terrible movie if
it was poorly directed.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Understanding the limitations of well knowing that we can't show
these too much because we're just getting it just.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
Like, I mean, that's why. Yeah, of course, that's why Jaws.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
Did that, because like the animatronic shark wasn't working and
so they're like, oh, let's just not use it.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Yeah, as much as possible.

Speaker 5 (30:59):
It ended up much more effective, and I think they probably,
I don't want to say stole that, but they learned
lessons from that how to do that properly and it's
very effective here.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
For sure.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
They could have used John Williams in this movie. However,
I say that I was gonna say. The one thing
is that there's essentially no score.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Is the dude's rug basically like just bringing it all together. Yeah,
they're really Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
There's it's very minimal if if not existing and.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
You really could have crushed one because it would have
been just front and center.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
I mean, it's just waiting for it, right, But yeah,
it's not not really there.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Yeah, that's great. Love that take take.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Benny, what you got buddy.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
This is a film. And for all your listeners out there,
you'll notice I said film, not a movie. Film, film
about friendship, teamwork, and may I say the hard working men, women,
and non gender conforming folk of the American Southwest.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Hell yeah?

Speaker 2 (32:15):
And is the monster really a monster? Or is it
just a meditation on the days gone by of a
of a Reagan led United States that we're trying to
leave in the rearview mirror. I don't know, you guys,
or is it just a fun monster movie?

Speaker 4 (32:34):
That's probably that.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
The monster is us.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
I'm sure mister Underwood probably wasn't going for that.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
It's amazing.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Also, I I watched this as a kid too. This
is one of those like if you didn't catch it
on VHS as a kid, like you're you're now and
you're like, what are you guys talking about movies? But
to all of your points, it's way better than it
should be or needs to be agree And like, yes,

(33:12):
maybe I could use all hair more character development. But
they don't waste any time in this bad Boy.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
They really don't run into it.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
I guess my hot takes, since you guys took all
the hotty hot takes. I like to think of Valen
Earl as possible lovers, yes, which I'm totally okay with
and everyone should be okay with. And I think, I
don't know, I just think it's there. They have such
a wonderful relationship, such a fun rapport. You know, they

(33:41):
don't even start them with any drama, which I feel
like nowadays, if you were making this movie, you'd start
with them having some kind of beef. You know, they
have a little playful tug of war a little bit,
but really they're just on each other's sides the whole time.
They're supportive. We made breakfast, you know, I mean it eggs,
blooney and what is it?

Speaker 5 (34:02):
Blooney and boney and beans, you know what I mean.
And that's what they're gonna leave at the beginning. They're
leaving together. They're gonna do something together. It's not like
they're going their separate ways. Leaving together smokes and you
got the lie.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
That's how we roll beautiful.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
I mean, I'm just saying kind of lovely. In fact,
we remade this, I say it just having to be lovers.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Yeah, it's Broken the Mountain part one, honestly exactly right before.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
They get into the campground, they had to fight this
crazy worm monster, which really is representing people and their hatred.
I'm just kidding.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Isn't fighting the crazy worm monster basically a gay marriage?
Isn't that what we're doing?

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Roby were taking this podcast podcast deep in.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
The new Yearly are this is way deeper than that.
We're gonna get for tremors, that is for sure.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Man, Yes, the tremors. You feel our hearts breaking. These
people can't show you feel.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
All right, it's a really great movie.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
It's fun.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
It's fun.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Yeah, hot, very hot, and we're okay with that when we.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Are absolutely right, I'm in favor. Well, I love it.
These are some hot takes. Let's go into our favorite
acting performance.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
Let's name the dude.

Speaker 6 (35:46):
I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
know that, or his dude or duder or you know,
eldud a reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
All right, who wants to go first to the dude scared,
I mean all the start because.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
I don't have a ton but it's fred Ward for me,
nice and just I've like always loved him me too,
But I looking at I don't really know why. I'm
just looking through his IMDb and I've seen like a
handful of his films.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Like.

Speaker 5 (36:24):
Yeah, like I don't know if he's ever really been
in like he's been in a couple like Oscar nominated films,
but certainly never. I mean, he's the definition of a
character actor. But there's just something about him. I think
everybody just loves him. He crushes every role he does.
I mean I can think of Naked gunn thirty three
and a third, you know, Yeah, these little roles that

(36:44):
he comes into in like movies that you love as
a kid, and he.

Speaker 4 (36:48):
Just I don't know, he just crushed it.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
But there's kind of no rhyme or reason to it, right,
But I just love him and I think he crushes
his role.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Yeah, he's great, also weird. In two other movies, he
plays Earl, which I think is pretty fun. Yeah, because
he's Earl in Sweet Home, Alabama, his other Oscar nominated performance,
and then he's in Road Trip as the dad. That
dad's name is Earl in there to fun, it's like.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
He's also the dad and Joe Dirt too.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
Yeah, I forgot about them.

Speaker 4 (37:20):
At the very end.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Anyway, he just kind of pops into these films.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
I love that. That's a great pick. He's great, he's great.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
We mean, my brother grew up with this movie that
no one has ever heard of ever. It's called Remo
Williams and it's it's Fred Ward is the lead. It's
kind of like they're almost trying to make like an
American James Bond Jason Bourne kind of a situation.

Speaker 4 (37:49):
The adventure begins.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
The crazy thing about this so the premises he's he's
a cop in this government agency, fakes his death and
basically he's gonna train him to be like a lethal weapon.
Basically cool, like a Jason Bourne. Right, But he gets
trained by this old Chinese man who is played by

(38:11):
Jewel Gray.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Oh wow, really wow?

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Which has aged wonder that great? It's a different time.
It's tough, but Jewel Gray is wonderful in it. But
it's inappropriate.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
Yeah yeah, yeah, but I.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Will say it worth a watch.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
It's very funny. Well, I'm gonna watch it. I saw
Wilfred Brimley's in it. Yeah enough for me.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
Yeah, he's you know, he's probably only like thirty, Like.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
He looks like he's probably younger than that. Honestly, at
that point we're.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Talking about what he's forty, he's like fifty in Cocoon. Yeah,
he's younger than all those folks, like itoks like the
oldest one. Yeah, it's insane.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Every time I hear the Jason Bourne and I think
of that line in it where he's like, geez hard,
my friend's just born, and all I want is now
a clip of someone's saying Jesus hard in My Friend
willis Yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
So oh, I just started saying that I didn't go
with what we were sorrying about. I mean, I have
to go with fred Ward too, and I'll say more
about it. I don't think Kevin Bacon's that great in
this movie Plugged. I feel like he's trying really hard,
and I feel like he's in like a different film. Yeah,
and I don't. I've just never seen him do that
in any of his other movies. Even around this time.

(39:34):
I'm like, he's like kind of being goofy and weird,
and I don't really know why.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
Yeah, it's interesting because there's a bunch of trivia about
this that I'll just cover now. He was apparently not
having a great time in life at this point, and
so maybe that's part of the reason it's weird, because
I'm kind of with you. I was like, like, I
couldn't get a gauge on what he was doing, and
he's always so good that I was a little eased
by it, you know.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Yeah, he was fine, He's just he's yeah, he's just
really he's like really ratched it up and he's very
like cheesy, and I don't know, I don't know. I've
just never seen him doing any other movie.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
Yeah, Yeah, because he talked for a long time about
this being like the worst movie experience he ever had.
He thought it was his worst movie he's ever been in.
He was like just on that ole time. Yeah, and
now he loves it. But yeah, he was, you know,
was really against it for a long time. So maybe
he was just going through it or something. Yeah, but yeah, interesting.

Speaker 5 (40:35):
Nice, Yeah, I'm with you, guys. Fred Ward was super
fun in this. I love that he's like older and wiser,
but he's like in the exact same.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Spot as Kevin Bacon.

Speaker 5 (40:47):
But he's not like he's better than him in any way,
but he likes to act that way. Yeah, he just
likes bosting him around. But yeah, I really enjoyed him
a lot. I thought he was a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
I do like that they don't give I already said
this one in the They don't really have any conflict
between them, right, Like they just let him just be,
which I'm totally fine with. It's like kind of just
I feel like, again today they would have jam that
in there, some kind of conflict.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
We've probably done some sort of love triangle.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
With for sure, he's they would have immediately encouraging him
to go.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
Yeah, he clearly is the one that puts the code
on her when they're sleeping on the rock. Like fred
Ward's like, he's clearly like setting him up for success.
He's the perfect wing man fred Ward. But it's like
fred Ward's not with anybody. Why wasn't he going for it?

Speaker 3 (41:44):
It's not about it, you know how.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
Valentine.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
He's trying to help the throttle.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
That's all makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
That is going to register on the seismic graph. Yeah,
it is interesting.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
You're right, because if they made this today, they'd be like,
like one of them would have wanted to leave and
one wouldn't write or something like that, you know, like
or one of them would have got him fired from
a gig and they would have been you know, yeah,
that's a super good point. They were just like, Yeah,
these guys are just buddies. I don't know, I like it.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
They're just cool, just like get to the monsters, let's go, and.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
They like fight a little bit, but it's more like.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
It's like fun nickering.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
Yeah, it's just like clickering exactly.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
Said when we were watching the other it's like they're
like a married couple.

Speaker 3 (42:31):
Yeah. Absolutely, they're kind of like the grumpy old man vibe,
you know, exactly. Well, I wasn't expecting this. This is
a clean sweep for the dude here because I also
picked fred Ward for all the same reasons. I think
he's really great. I love that he's supportive of him

(42:51):
and yeah, I don't know. I just thought he was
charming in this elected a lot, and he just seems
like the less brash version of Kevin Bacon this movie,
which is kind of fun.

Speaker 4 (43:03):
Nice. Let's talk about some of the supporting rest in peace.

Speaker 5 (43:08):
In peace, we lost them, huh a couple of years ago.

Speaker 3 (43:12):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
Nice Get out there and watch Remo Williams there. Yeah,
and Joel Gray is extremely racist performance, which I believe
was nominated for an Oscar for.

Speaker 5 (43:23):
Is that best makes make up, not acting macpers.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
So shame on them too.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
But give it a watch a watch, Let's talk about
some of the supporting roles. Let's go to the Tucci Waki.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
All right, so we got for t seems easy.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
This feels like a clean sweep too.

Speaker 5 (43:45):
We going, Michael Gross, I'm just gonna make them a
couple of.

Speaker 4 (43:51):
Had I had and Reba McIntire, You.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
Got it's that movie.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
It really is.

Speaker 5 (43:59):
Almost picked them for the dude because it's this is
what I think about. I'll show Benny I got in
my notes them. Every scene they're in together, they crush it.
They're a great couple, very well written couple. And we'll
get to in quotes. But Michael Gross has all the

(44:21):
best quotes in this movie.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
Yeah he does.

Speaker 4 (44:25):
And it's Reba's first feature film.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
She's wonderful in it too.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
Yeah, she's great. She really is great, especially for a
first off, Like, I mean, Kevin Bacon's way over acting
over her. She's she's believable as hell.

Speaker 4 (44:42):
Yeah, agreed.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Also, if anyone swears we should be saying, pardon my.

Speaker 3 (44:47):
French, I'll throw that over the top. I like it.
Part my French. That's Remo Williams.

Speaker 5 (44:56):
Nice, Benny, did you have that as well?

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Absolutely, I mean they basically steal the movie. I mean, agreed,
they're the best part of the movie.

Speaker 5 (45:08):
Yeah, they made the movie for me as well.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
And and and like mutes or whoever, just like it's
such a great there's such great characters written in that
they're kind of doomsday preppers. And yes, they have the
most the most realistic reason to be out here. Yeah. Right,
And it's total justification for why we just introduced it
part of my front, part of my friendship weapons into

(45:33):
the movie. Yeah, yeah, we can actually fight these things
because the Terminator two style underground bunker full of weapons,
which is amazing.

Speaker 3 (45:41):
Yeah, perfect.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
We never see that in the movie.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
It's like, yeah, yeah, what are we doing? What are
we doing?

Speaker 2 (45:47):
Yeah, they're the best.

Speaker 3 (45:50):
I think the weapons keep getting bigger and bigger too.
That's the movies go on, which is great.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (45:57):
Yeah. That elephant gun is so funny.

Speaker 3 (45:59):
It's the best.

Speaker 4 (46:00):
That's so great.

Speaker 3 (46:01):
Cartridges are giant.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
I'm not a I'm not a gun expert at all,
but I don't think he's holding it right.

Speaker 4 (46:09):
It's it's like under his shoulder.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
That's not what you.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
Want to do research for this film.

Speaker 4 (46:16):
I don't know if you want to put that on
your shoulder again.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
With that gun. You don't, but I don't know. I
also don't know how you hold onto it then.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
Right, It doesn't feel like the shoulder is gonna stay
where right?

Speaker 3 (46:29):
It's yeah, boy, yeah.

Speaker 5 (46:36):
One hundred percent those two for sure. You want to
talk about some of these other actors.

Speaker 4 (46:41):
Yeah, yeah, who do you?

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (46:46):
Well? I like to Oh, I went away from my
screen a Finn Carter. I thought she was pretty good
in this, like kind of nerdy, you know, just the
fun part. Also, I love when they like patching up
her legs after she gets the barb wire and stuff.
She has the hairiest legs of all time, and I

(47:08):
I can't listen. I don't find that to be a
big deal, Like, I don't care about that. There's no
damn way they're letting that happen in a movie today
without mentioning it like there's zero chance, and.

Speaker 2 (47:22):
I was actually I would say I would say today,
maybe they are if we go back like five years
and there's like a ten year window your window. They're
not saying they're gonna mention.

Speaker 3 (47:33):
It, like I'm a feminist so I can do everything
you can do or something, you know, Like, I think
it's realistic.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
She's out the desert.

Speaker 3 (47:41):
Out in the middle of nowhere, totally agree theology, yes,
from a movie and not allude to it. Yeah, yeah,
I just think that's wild. Are I think that's wild
because I I've long had the like I couldn't ever
care less about that, Like I don't, especially if we're

(48:01):
in a chance where something could happen. I don't care what's.

Speaker 2 (48:04):
Especially in that time period. You're right, it is. It
is amazing that they was such a realistic choice there.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
I loved it. I thought that was really fun. But
I thought she wasn't given a ton to do in
this movie, honestly, but she was pretty good in it.
I thought she was charming, she was like goofy. She
was also capable, which a lot of movies from this
time frame don't have.

Speaker 4 (48:25):
The lady being, you know, champion.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
She really killed it, so but yeah, I thought she
did a good job, and I don't think I ever
really saw her in anything. Again, the conversation about the best,
it's for sure my favorite scene. So it's gonna go there.

Speaker 5 (48:49):
But yeah, that's why I think I wanted to give
a shout out to Victor Wong.

Speaker 4 (48:55):
Plays Walter or three Three Ninjas.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
Part of my life.

Speaker 5 (49:07):
El Yeah, I would love to rewatch Three Ninches because
I bet it's just it's gonna be be terrible just
to see them in the theater, Like, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
I can't even think of a comp right now. What
I would be that excited about. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (49:25):
I didn't even get mad when people called me Tom
Tum forever after that movie. I love it.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
I finally got rid of truffle Shuffle.

Speaker 3 (49:36):
Tom Tom City Bro. I loved Three Ninjas.

Speaker 4 (49:41):
That was good, but the best.

Speaker 3 (49:44):
I love that guy Victor Wong. I forgot that he
gets murdered in this movie.

Speaker 4 (49:50):
For sure does too.

Speaker 5 (49:54):
He's got the like bloody nose before the thing, Uh
it gets him and that's always weird me up.

Speaker 2 (50:01):
Since it coming.

Speaker 3 (50:03):
Yeah, that was unrelated.

Speaker 2 (50:05):
The makeup team was busy putting hairs into uh, you know,
Finn's legs.

Speaker 3 (50:11):
This is actually where we learned. This is where we
learned the grabloids only kill people if they're already ill.
So it's actually they're the good guys there people. Yeah,
it is we who are the monsters you see?

Speaker 2 (50:29):
So you're seeing disease.

Speaker 4 (50:31):
Yeah, we're having fun. Benny, your other girl from Jurassic Park.
It's Melvin. Melvin.

Speaker 2 (50:49):
Melvin almost steals the film.

Speaker 4 (50:51):
Melvin's pretty great.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
What's that? Bobby Jacoby?

Speaker 2 (50:55):
Thank did his IMDb taper off after this one a
little bit?

Speaker 3 (51:00):
It?

Speaker 4 (51:00):
Did? He has a picture? Yeah? Yeah, I said, I
said he did have a picture.

Speaker 5 (51:06):
But he actually does have more credits than I would
have thought with someone with no picture, Like he did
do stuff but.

Speaker 3 (51:11):
E five credits.

Speaker 4 (51:14):
He did a lot of like.

Speaker 5 (51:15):
One off episodes and TV shows. But of course, you know,
you see his work in this film.

Speaker 2 (51:20):
Yeah, tell you what, I'm sorry, was your client Melvin?

Speaker 3 (51:29):
You're hired? Wow?

Speaker 2 (51:30):
Wow, he's not.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
Right at all for this, but we would like to
hire a lot of one episodes for him in various
TV shows over the years. Oh sure, sure, good brand man.
But he's been in a million of them. Anyway, I
like Melvin. I also do like that Ariana Richards though
the the Jurassic Park.

Speaker 4 (51:53):
Yeah, she's great in Durassic Parks. Yeah, she's got like
five lines.

Speaker 5 (51:58):
But she's in like one of the sequels, one of
the seventh sequels.

Speaker 4 (52:03):
Really like all grown up. Yeah, she's like.

Speaker 5 (52:05):
Maybe like in the fifth one or something.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
Watch every one of those dumb movies. I can't wait.

Speaker 5 (52:13):
You know who's in every single one. It's Michael Michael Gross.

Speaker 4 (52:18):
Yeah. Gross.

Speaker 2 (52:19):
Just he just did Family Ties and everything Tremors.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
Which is so amazing even do the TV shows.

Speaker 3 (52:29):
To god, that's a career I can get behind.

Speaker 5 (52:31):
I like he's making that Tremor's money making.

Speaker 4 (52:40):
That's good.

Speaker 2 (52:41):
I love that they do do a good job of
setting up this little group, though with like no dialogue.

Speaker 3 (52:48):
I mean right, yeah, totally.

Speaker 2 (52:51):
This little town and everyone's relationship. We're saying they sort
of short change Nestor both on his character name and
his story. But that's you.

Speaker 5 (53:02):
I'll get to him, so I needed more and nest
though you know we didn't.

Speaker 4 (53:07):
I'll get to him, and I'll get to him.

Speaker 2 (53:09):
In best quote, that type of the script with Nestor.

Speaker 3 (53:15):
That's that's fine, don't worry about it. That's pretty much
everybody in the movie though.

Speaker 5 (53:21):
Honestly cool, you guys. Let's go and talk about our
favorite scene. Let's choose the Dingus.

Speaker 4 (53:27):
Sons is quite simple, really, dingus Dingus.

Speaker 3 (53:31):
I can talk about my dingus all night long. Who
wants to start with the pole vaulting scene.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
We'll start with this film. When they're trapped on a
rock and don't know where to go, there happens to
be a perfect lead, straight poles next to.

Speaker 3 (53:51):
It, no woods, and nobody knows like you guys.

Speaker 2 (53:58):
Ever pull vaulted like we've all pulled vaulted, perfect solution.

Speaker 3 (54:04):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (54:04):
Off we go, It's amazing.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
No one asked one question on set. I love this.

Speaker 4 (54:12):
I just love that every rock is like perfectly.

Speaker 3 (54:16):
They're all seven and a half feet away from each other,
so exact.

Speaker 4 (54:19):
Nice. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (54:20):
Well, I can't remember exactly what plays out, but it's
like the two of the two guys are are are
bitchating each other about how to do it, and then
she's just like, these guys are just idiots.

Speaker 4 (54:28):
I know what to do. I'll walk over to this
pile of perfect poles. These no no, what are you
talking about?

Speaker 2 (54:43):
Never have so good Kevin Bakin's characters that never even
went to school in school.

Speaker 5 (54:49):
Ever, And the truck is just perfectly placed by the
rock as well.

Speaker 4 (54:56):
Yeah it worked out. It was convenient.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
She's smart enough to put the keys her mouth first.

Speaker 4 (55:01):
Oh yeah, Rob is a.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
Resources resources, full of resource.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
I love that scene so much. It's so good, so
good to me. That's where we switch from like horror
film to like it's we're driving a.

Speaker 4 (55:22):
Nice time now.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
Okay, it's true.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
That is the Swiss right there.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
Yeah, I tell you what. That's also in the score
kicks in a little bit too, and I was like, yo,
I'm a good time.

Speaker 5 (55:31):
Yeah, good time for me.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
Yeah, we're having a fun time.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
Monsterous.

Speaker 4 (55:39):
Fred Ward's like all into it too. He's like yeah,
I'll yeah, well I'll get you a pull too, dude.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
There's about forty seven yeehaws in this in this film,
and there needs to be about thirteen.

Speaker 3 (55:50):
But they were like, you know what, nah, we need
them all, every single one.

Speaker 2 (55:56):
Maybe there needed to be eighty. Maybe that's I love it.

Speaker 5 (55:59):
There are a lot of like celebratory like.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
Yeah, best celebration is just a new category for this
amount of celebration. There's so many and they just give
more and more. Insane.

Speaker 5 (56:14):
Yeah, they keep going like further and further. Yeah, way,
just like, wow, we are celebrating.

Speaker 3 (56:23):
Even after we learn the noise is not a great thing. Yea,
monsters like we might die in a second. I'm gonna
be happy now.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
It's true. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward got their little
bro five every time.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
So hell yeah, it's awesome. Oh so good? Uh gag,
what do you got for?

Speaker 4 (56:47):
Yeah, I can't top that.

Speaker 5 (56:49):
My favorite scene is the bunker scene, but particularly leading
up to it. I love when this is the real answer,
when they're when they're radioing into each other and then
you know, Burt and Heather still don't know exactly what's
going on, and then the grab By blasts through and
what is what is Oh my god, oh god, almighty

(57:14):
radio And then you know it cuts back to the
town and they're all, you know, straught, and then you
just hear the gunfight, the gunfire and going off in
the distance, and then they're like their ears perk up,
like we know what's going on fighting and then and
that leads into that whole scene, which is just the
clearly the best scene in the movie real the reveal
of the wall as they keep back out.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Came into the wrong basically, Yeah, the.

Speaker 3 (57:41):
Damn rec room. That's the best quote by car I
was going to miss it so we could say it
right later. You know that My thing, that's for sure.

Speaker 5 (57:52):
I was doing it was Yeah, it's that scene. I
didn't even write anything else down because that it's perfect.
It's a perfect scene. Yeah, this is this is well,
it needed to be sad, So I'm glad that we
talked about it.

Speaker 3 (58:11):
Man, sure it would be so loud to shoot that
many guns in that tiny.

Speaker 4 (58:17):
We were talking about that blow out.

Speaker 5 (58:22):
Yeah, I kind of always love that the station wagon
getting like pulled under the ground and then they like
see the headlights later.

Speaker 4 (58:37):
I always thought that was cool.

Speaker 2 (58:38):
I mean, we could talk about the special effects are
pretty sweet. I mean, yeah, for practical, all the practical
things I do, that's one of the ripple. The ripple
effect on the boards coming up as they're running into
the store is really amazing.

Speaker 3 (58:55):
That's the shot I think with this movie for whatever reason,
all the time, and I wrote it down as a
not will mention. I love that, like the effectiveness of
that and then the fence poles, Like, that's such a
good device that they use a couple of times really
effectively in this movie. I like it a lot.

Speaker 2 (59:10):
Even the people getting sucked down is impressive.

Speaker 3 (59:14):
Yeah, really cool.

Speaker 5 (59:15):
And the horse getting dragged down by that they really
did that. I mean, I mean, obviously they had a
trained horse. They just wrapped these things around it, but yeah,
you know they really got a horse to do that.

Speaker 3 (59:29):
Yeah, it's pretty wild.

Speaker 2 (59:31):
Yeah. All the car stuff looks great. I mean, yeah,
their effects are amazing.

Speaker 4 (59:37):
Agreed.

Speaker 3 (59:38):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
Do we know what the budget was this?

Speaker 5 (59:41):
I saw it was eleven million.

Speaker 2 (59:43):
That is cheap.

Speaker 4 (59:45):
And they built that whole town too.

Speaker 3 (59:47):
Wow, that's why that's right. And then they just like
tore down right away. I guess that's probably what they
always do, and that's what you do.

Speaker 5 (59:55):
It's a very wasteful industry.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
We're gonna need a their town. I love all that.
I don't I feel like I don't even have another.

Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
Scene to say.

Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
It's cool when they're when they're going out on the
big whatever you call that excavator thing, having chase, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
totally that's cool, and having to go off the cliff
like that was, Uh, that was pretty I like.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
The sequence too, when they're all kind of separated and
they're communicating between the.

Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Roofs roof and yeah, that is cool.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
And you know, I love when when they got their
little plan going and then I'm convinced did Michael Bay
steal this for Armageddon? When when Kevin Bacon when fred
Ward's about to go and they came kept baking. It's
some egos.

Speaker 5 (01:00:44):
Yeah, Harry, Yeah, Harry and aj move.

Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
Yeah, good call.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
Michael Bay was like, I got this idea my favorite
films in nineteen ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
This is what Harry's going to save the day.

Speaker 5 (01:00:59):
I had written down just Walter buying like the snake
tongue off of them for fifteen dollars. I just love
this fun like, I like the haggling and then it
kinds of him making money off of it.

Speaker 4 (01:01:11):
It's like just a fun just a fun little joke
in there.

Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
Yeah. I do like that a lot. That's fun.

Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
One step ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Also, that light pole was when we're still in the
horror movie portion, the like guy sitting at the top
of the the like electrical p Yeah, that's pretty scary.
That's kind of fun.

Speaker 4 (01:01:29):
It was scary.

Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
I like that scene. It was cool. They built a
lot of suspense early on with those couple of scenes
escalate and also, I think, Benny you said it, this
movie really goes zero to one hundred, like it's you know,
a little fun talking about breakfast and falling out of
the truck, and then it's like people are dying in
me big.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
I mean it to because they were just like, we're
gonna make this an hour forty a minute over, got
great and we gotta go out.

Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
Yeah, I'm there for it big time.

Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
Well I well we can all agree. Then it is
the pole vaulting scene and no other scene.

Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
Movie.

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Yeah, basically.

Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
The wreck room scene with all the guns and the
elephant gun madness and funnest fun times. Let's go talk
about it. These quotes. Now, it's time to show me
the money.

Speaker 5 (01:02:25):
The money show me.

Speaker 3 (01:02:32):
Who wants to start with some quotes?

Speaker 5 (01:02:35):
Well, I'll just start with a non quote. Uh, bird's
license plate is Ouzzi for you.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
I didn't see that. No, that's fun.

Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
You know what, two things. That's why I like you.
I'm gonna start quotes with a non quote.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
Yeah, I love that. I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Live on the Edge that's why we call them to
renegade everyone.

Speaker 4 (01:02:55):
You're gonna get a roll and who wants to go?

Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
Now?

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
What happened to the oozy? Where did that go? The
machine gun in your hand? You know, in the eighties
and in the nineties, what a fun movie weapon. And
now I just haven't really got him anymore.

Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
Isn't it?

Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
It really is I've been missing effective.

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
I think his last use was true lies.

Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
Yes, well, they were all like the first thing, I thought, we've.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Reached the high watermark?

Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
What do we need to use this for anymore? You know,
They're like, all right, we got to find.

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
A different answered my own question.

Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
All right, moving on?

Speaker 5 (01:03:31):
Actually here all I got one about what I was
gonna say about Nestor earlier. I just love when they're
in Walter's shop.

Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
And he's beat all cocky.

Speaker 5 (01:03:40):
He's like, I know, it'll use found five pounds pick axe,
and then you know you can't do that, and a
couple like a middle Lady's like.

Speaker 4 (01:03:49):
No, no, no, I'll use a chainsaw. That's what I'll use.

Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
And it's like this, this dude's part of my friend dad.
You know, this dude's getting sucked their a tire for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
I was like, bro they in the ground, I'm sure
this four and a half inches will be plenty of clearance,
titled he We're doing it three times? What's happening?

Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Friends?

Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
That's good. This guy is getting sucked through a tire
for sure. That's amazing.

Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
That's pretty great. I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
Go ahead, go aheads you guys.

Speaker 5 (01:04:34):
Yeah, I mean, you know broke into the wrong goddamn
wreck room, didn't you? Your bastard is for sure. The
quote of the movie really great.

Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Pretty much everything he says is pretty Yah.

Speaker 4 (01:04:47):
What kind of fuses that? Canon? Fuse? What the hell
do you use it for? My cannon?

Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
Canon?

Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
My cannon? I mean, it's much can it funny? I
loved that line so much my cannon? Okay?

Speaker 5 (01:05:02):
Yeah, man, I didn't write down a whole bunch. I'm
gonna be honest.

Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
Anybody else anything here else?

Speaker 5 (01:05:07):
I got my favorite bert One when they're on the
rock at the end and he's like something about starvation,
and he's like, I know what I'm gonna do. Take
one of these walk right out there with the fuse
lit and let them take me down. Boom boom, And
then was just like, good lord, honey.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
Another good bird one.

Speaker 4 (01:05:31):
He's trying to get Melvin going.

Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
You'll Melvin, this will make him think twice when he
hands on the gun.

Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
Yeah, he's gotta get smile.

Speaker 5 (01:05:39):
And say, Melvin instantly, just start shooting it at nothing.

Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
Obviously there's no bullets in it. But yeah, I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
I do like one quote I do like and I
can't even think of it right now. When he says
he says, you always better step on it, says a man. Sorry,
that makes for a great podcast.

Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
That's all right. I love what it's like. We got
that mother humper and then he's like Roger that Bert
and congratulations, but be advised there are two more repeat
two more mother humpers.

Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
I love pretty great.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
I also love and Gage looked into this because I
was saying, it's funny that they use pardon my French
so much, Yeah, because they don't really swear. They're like
using very easygoing words. But didn't you say.

Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
Yeah, because you probably saw us and try it that
it was originally are and they cut a bunch of
the swear words out to make a PG.

Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
Thirteen and you can really tell.

Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
And a couple of them are just dubbed over, you know,
like we've seen ane other movies like Galaxy Quest does
that too, but you can tell. I think Mother Humpers
was one of them.

Speaker 5 (01:06:54):
But at the very end it was can you fly?
You know, it's can you fly? Sucker?

Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
And that was obviously yeah, yeah, right right right? What
what was it?

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
Pardon my French? Which is funny because earlier they're like,
we killed it, we killed it, Pardon my French? Gave
him that one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
You get your one.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
Pardon my French? There so good. Well, I'm a victim
of circumstance. I thought you called it your pecker. That
was pretty good. I liked that. I also loved this line.
I think it was fred Ward. Is that the guy's name, Yeah,
fred Ward. I think he's the one that said it.

(01:07:38):
But when he goes they're talking about where these you know,
where these creatures came from, and they're like, I vote
for outer space.

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
No way.

Speaker 3 (01:07:46):
These were local boys that for some reason cracked me
up to know. And I really had fun with that line.

Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
That's funny. Is that like a Roswell joke?

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
I don't know, but I just love the no way
were these local boys. I also think it's great that
they're just I love movies that are just like, we're
not going to explain where these are from, and just
you know, like just move on.

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
I think that's so great again ninety to an hour forty, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
We have time for this.

Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
We don't have time.

Speaker 5 (01:08:21):
They probably get into that with the sea they do
in this. Like I said, I've only seen the second
they do. I think they've been around for thousands of
years and fred Ward's character does say, damn, I always
thought they were from outer space.

Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Yeah, that's funny. I like that.

Speaker 4 (01:08:35):
But yeah, they try and fail.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
I've never seen any of the sequels or awards in
the sequel too, he's in He's just in the second
one only. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
I think the third one is like a prequel and
like the eighteen hundreds or something.

Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
I believe. Well, yes, a period tremors movie.

Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
Let's serious.

Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
Yea, oh my god, someone got so stuff and.

Speaker 4 (01:09:03):
My and Michael Gross is in it like a different character.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
I thought you were part of my friend.

Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
No, No, we should watch tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
No, I think that four is that where the legend begins. Tomorrow.
I'm watching it when I get.

Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
We're stopping the pot now later.

Speaker 5 (01:09:26):
Back to perfection, right, now okay, yeah, okay, like views,
they all just bleed together for me, you know, That's
what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
It.

Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Actually, it took me a second when I saw that
the third one is called Back to Perfection.

Speaker 4 (01:09:40):
I was like, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
I was like, because they're like perfectly tuned killing machines.
And I was like, no, name of town.

Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Nope, genius, the name of the town. Got it?

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
In the second one, does he is? He like, so, earl,
where's Valve? He's like, you didn't work out. It didn't
work out. We're got another partner.

Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
Think. They just say like he found himself a good
woman and him and Ronda got married. Yeah, he left.

Speaker 5 (01:10:10):
They did get on People magazine though there's a cover
of People on his wall.

Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
Is there? Why have I not explored these sequels.

Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
To check them out?

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Yeah, we all know what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Okay, I guess we know what we're doing in January
of twenty twenty six, absolutely right here in these.

Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Seats, in these seats.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
Talking about Back to Perfection. Well that little segue for
you hosts, come on.

Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
Come on, this is yeah. I don't need anymore all.

Speaker 5 (01:10:43):
Yeah, sweet, Then let's go to Biggs Boom moments. Well,
I don't think he cried in this movie, Bud. I
hope you didn't cry in this movie. I got Walter's death,
No way, no chance. He cried seven times and face off,
I got that stick.

Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
I'm going to say. I'm going to say I think
I think last moment, last moment, kiss.

Speaker 3 (01:11:14):
Yiss. That was nice.

Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
That was a nice a little happy tear.

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
No, none of these were true, but I do have one.
I cried one time on a second way.

Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
Oh my god, he cried. It has to do it.
Everyone has to do with Heather and Burke. Right, you cried?
Did you cry when the couple when her husband got killed?
The house building couple.

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
It involved, it involves val and it's when all the
people come together and start making noise to save bal
as he's running out. And it was just a nice moment.
I liked it. She kicks like the water and all
that stuff. And it wasn't a big cry. That's all

(01:12:01):
just no way you think I was like, oh, this
will make me look good if I say I cried
the tremors.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
We never we never assumed you're trying to make yourself
look good.

Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
Job.

Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
That is shocking.

Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
Just you know what dude's never mind the cold sweeping
finger of judgment over here, no doubt. I'm with you,
big guy. Feel your feelings, feel your friend deep.

Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
They just supported me so much.

Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
There, you just supported They love him.

Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
They love him. That's great, they love him so much.
All right, let's go to some movie trivia now and
get away from this emotional film.

Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
Uh s. S.

Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
Wilson said that he got the idea for the film
while he was working for the US Navy in the
California Desert. While rest on a rock, he imagined what
it might be like if something underground kept him from
getting off that rock.

Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
He hadn't just watched Beetlejuice by chance.

Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
May yeah, maybe maybe a lot of films, a lot
of them. Uh, there's a big whole thing about Like
I said, Kevin Bacon thought this was like the worst
movie ever, and he was at the early time, but
he really liked it later.

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
I mean, I will say now, like Gene Hackman was
convinced that Hoosier's was going to be a piece right now,
I can get behind Kevin Bacon being on this set
being like this, probably where is Gene Hackman over here?
I'm like, come on, bro, like it's a basketball movie.

Speaker 3 (01:13:43):
What do you think is?

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Yeah, but I can give Kevin Bacon a little break
here like this.

Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Well, and like like I said, apparently apparently he was,
like I was super depressed and at a low point
in life kind of, so he was bitter about the
movie and everything at that point. So it wasn't just
this movie. But he is now said he doesn't watch
a lot of his films, but he has seen this
like dozens of times over the years, so he like
really enjoys it now and you know, looks back on

(01:14:10):
it ononly. So I just think that's fun. So this
was not a hit during its theatrical run, but it
became like a huge home video hit with the market,
and it tripled its original box office gross just with
VHS sales and rentals. And according to this note, here

(01:14:31):
was over sixteen million at the box office worldwide, so
it made you know, three times that just from rentals.

Speaker 5 (01:14:39):
And well, I think that's why it's a big film
for all of us for sure, because I had it
on VHS.

Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
I know that.

Speaker 4 (01:14:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
Yeah, And like we said, it was on TV all the.

Speaker 5 (01:14:50):
Time, and like the early nine is right when the
VHS was going on.

Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
Like they just blew up.

Speaker 5 (01:14:59):
Yeah, yeah, I can picture that, that poster with the
Yeah it's so great.

Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
Absolutely love it. That's what I should look for. I
would love to have that.

Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
That would be pressure.

Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
Yeah. It just makes me. I feel like I'm in
the movie store. Yes, looking at that poster.

Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
Absolutely. One idea by the special effects screw was for
the worms to have an outer shell. When above the dirt,
the shell would retract and reveal a slimier inner worm. However,
many production members started to giggle at the very phallic
resemblance for it, and it's thought it akin to a foreskin,

(01:15:44):
so it was changed to the big worms sprouting several
smaller worms from its mouth.

Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
That's probably the right move.

Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Yeah, yeah, I think so.

Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
The gag at the beginning of the film where a
val misses a staple eight times when he's hammering, which
I had never noticed.

Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
We we were talking about that that I caught that
the other day on my own. We were dying, you know,
we we knew were working here.

Speaker 4 (01:16:11):
Yeah right, yeah, we have a lot of carpenters here.

Speaker 5 (01:16:14):
We were watching it after work and I'm like, and
I had watched the day fo Im watched this so funny.

Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
I loved it, and I was like, did he mean
to do that? Apparently was not scripted. It was kind
of a spontaneous idea, and fred Ward's reaction is genuine
when he's just like Spress.

Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
Fred Ward didn't make a comment. Absolutely film like it.
Legit looks like it's the first time he's ever held
a hammer.

Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
Supposed to be a handy man. Yeah, so great hand man.

Speaker 5 (01:16:45):
He was not a good handyman, clearly, that's true.

Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
Test audiences loved the film, but would repeatedly chant kiss her,
kiss her at the end, So the studio paid for
reshoot featuring Val and Ronda kissing at the end.

Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Good call, Oh they didn't they didn't have.

Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
Them apparently not. Apparently not, so let's see. They were
also forced to add a scene toward the beginning where
Ronda is unknowingly stalked by the Graboid as she heads
into her truck, and then the scene where old Fred
is killed. They originally wanted no hint of a monster,
so that people thought that it could be like a

(01:17:27):
serial killer, you know that they kind of allude to.
But the studio wanted to market it more as like
this monster movie kind of Vibe, so they had to
have some on screen deaths before the big reveal. So sure,
I thought that was interesting. That could have been kind
of some interesting takes on it. Michael Gross began filming
only one day after shooting the very last episode of

(01:17:50):
Family Ties, so that's pretty wild. Wow, no breaks, no breaks,
I love it. The various sounds that the Graboids made
have become pop to reuse in other films. They can
be heard in films like Predator Too, Starship Troopers, ants,
something called mosquitoes, eight legged freaks, a kongskull Island, and then.

Speaker 4 (01:18:12):
A bunch more it said, so interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
I thought that was interesting.

Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
Yeah, I don't know, a bunch of comedic horror movies.
Those are fun.

Speaker 3 (01:18:19):
Yeah, yeah, really good stuff. But the at thirty two
minutes in the film, the first like appearance of the
full size grabber is a miniature with a matte painting
of mountains behind it, and I just think that's always fun.
And I did not notice that. I didn't clock that happening,
So I thought that was cool. And then the final

(01:18:39):
like death from a fall from the cliff and then
the explosion and all that was also filmed in a
parking lot using miniatures, so I thought that was cool.

Speaker 4 (01:18:50):
Fine, that is cool.

Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
Yeah, they did a good job working them in because
they didn't look all that weird. I didn't think anyway.
The original film ending to the film very different. Val
and Earle head out to Bixby, and Val doesn't hook
up with Rohnda, but it is implied that they might
in the future, and the two are looking for their
lighter and realize that Ronda still has it and they

(01:19:13):
turned to head back. So that's the end of the thing.
But like we said, audiences didn't like that, but it
is available on the DVD if you want to see that.

Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
All fun and let's.

Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
See, oh we we kind of alluded to this, but
when Chang is partially swallowed by the graboid and it
like swerves back and forth, it's almost identical to the
scene at the end of Jaws where Quinn slides in
the mouth of the giant shark. So yeah, good shout
on that. It's really really close. And I even saw

(01:19:48):
like a side by side with it, and I was like, oh, yeah,
it really did allude to that nicely. So yeah, I
love that, love it. That was all I had for
Trivia do anything wrap.

Speaker 4 (01:20:01):
I saw.

Speaker 5 (01:20:02):
Almost all the actors were cast through open auditions, a
rare practice for studio films. There were offers, however, for
the role of Valentine the Key to Bill Paxton, Matthew Modine,
and Bruce Campbell, among others. No fun, but they went
with Kevin Bacon due to his star power.

Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
Yeah, that would have worked.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
Him and Paxton would end up in Space together.

Speaker 5 (01:20:27):
Just a few years later they would Hell yeah, which
is also having an anniversary this year.

Speaker 3 (01:20:34):
Oh, hell yes, I can't wait to watch that.

Speaker 4 (01:20:38):
So good, so good.

Speaker 5 (01:20:40):
That was all I had, though, Did you guys have
anything else?

Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
He saw?

Speaker 4 (01:20:43):
I did a little research today, Benny knows this.

Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
I was.

Speaker 5 (01:20:47):
I was curious as to who Melvin's parents were, and
I always thought I always thought that Nestor was his dad.

Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
Yeah, is he not?

Speaker 2 (01:20:56):
I implied that he that he's his dad.

Speaker 4 (01:20:59):
That I but so.

Speaker 5 (01:21:01):
But something didn't seem right because they never say anything
and well a lot. So I googled it and apparently
there's a deleted scene where they talk about that Melvin's
parents constantly go to Las Vegas to gamble and they
just neglect him and leave him.

Speaker 4 (01:21:18):
No wonder he sucks cool. Yeah, so his parents are
just in Vegas.

Speaker 5 (01:21:22):
The slots part of my French idiot.

Speaker 3 (01:21:28):
They just leave him back to be a piece part
of my French.

Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
Yeah. But we were like, it's just one of those Like, well, one,
the way they have it really makes it seem like
his dad, but it's unclear. But two they could have
easily done in one sentence.

Speaker 5 (01:21:44):
Maybe you know, So who is nestor to Melvin? Then
nothing absolutely just to do what I figured out was
when he gets emotionally dies, I think that's the first
time he sees anyone die.

Speaker 4 (01:22:00):
Yeah, because he doesn't see Walter dies, I think he's
in the ship. Yeah, he's outside, So I think he's
just shut up the ship.

Speaker 5 (01:22:08):
Yes, yes, because I was because I was also joking
when fred Ward like it's like, hey, Melbourne, you want
to make a buck to like go off and distract
the grab boy, like you know, a minute after his
dad had died. That I was like, that doesn't really
make sounds pretty brutal.

Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
That's why I was like, I need to google something.

Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
Yet I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
Has been so caring towards fal the whole time.

Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
For no reason, but never thought that's a really good.

Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
Returns.

Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Jesus, I love that. No real gallows why renegade, you guys?

Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
He does his own reasons.

Speaker 4 (01:22:49):
I love it. That's great.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
You got any vaccine questions?

Speaker 5 (01:22:52):
Send him to Renegade, which it's basically a doctor.

Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
I don't do anything without asking this guy first. That's
all right, that's his own research. It's like Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 4 (01:23:06):
That's why I love him.

Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
I love them too much to compare him to Aaron Rodgers.
I know that. That's awful. Well, that's great. Well we
kind of already covered this one, but Judgment Day. Will
there be a sequel?

Speaker 5 (01:23:21):
There's several seven seven, there's seven, and the last one
was made in twenty twenty. It was a Tremors Shrieker Island,
and Michael Gross has been in all of them. He
is now into his seventies, still rocking this role, which, yes,
pretty great.

Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
Actually, you can make the argument that Melvin got out
of this situation, moved to California, went to cal started
playing football, went to cal and became Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
Oh I like that. I like that. Also, Raised by
the Desert doesn't have a great relationship with his family
from what it sounds like. That's true.

Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
That's true.

Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Family interesting, spend a lot of time in the desert,
do and I wash it?

Speaker 3 (01:24:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:24:06):
Yeah, Melvin could have a nice cannon on him. Who
knows who does arm his arm?

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
That we were talking about his grab boyd my bad.
I like it. I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
It's thee over under that you will refer to yourself as.

Speaker 3 (01:24:24):
The gotta go tangle with the grab oy. I'll be back.

Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
Personal.

Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
Don't tell me how to live my life.

Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
Get out of here, you.

Speaker 4 (01:24:37):
Get out of here. Well, do you guys want to
play a game?

Speaker 5 (01:24:43):
Yes, sir, I made a starting five.

Speaker 3 (01:24:46):
Love it.

Speaker 5 (01:24:47):
You guys know how this works. We've done it a
few times. I'll just tell our listeners. I'm going to
name five favorite actors from a particular film. When you
know the film, you're going to ring in with your name.

Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:24:59):
If you get it wrong, no negative points, but you
won't be able to guess again for that movie. If
there are actors names remaining, you can guess those for
a point each another person can steal if you get
any of those names wrong. All of these films have
something in common. When you know the theme, you can
ring in at any time for a point.

Speaker 4 (01:25:21):
Are you ready?

Speaker 3 (01:25:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:25:23):
Okay, number one. The first actor's name is Mark Rolston.
The second name is Bill Paxton, who apparently was up
for Tremmors. The third name is Paul Riser. The fourth

(01:25:48):
name is Michael Bean.

Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Benny Benny Aliens.

Speaker 5 (01:25:55):
Aliens is correct, and one more name remaining, Sojourney Weaver
Benny has two points. All right, okay, let's go to
the next one. The first name is Alice Braga.

Speaker 4 (01:26:16):
Sure.

Speaker 5 (01:26:17):
The second name is Walton Goggins. Oh, number three tofer grace.
Number four?

Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
Oh, Adam, Adam, Predators.

Speaker 5 (01:26:35):
You're correct, Ding, Ding, Ding, and you have two names remaining.
Adrian Brody, Yes, what the hell is creditors? Credit credit, credators, financeditors?

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
What you did.

Speaker 4 (01:27:00):
For?

Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
Sorry?

Speaker 5 (01:27:00):
Kid, I don't think she's in it, but Sigourney Weaver.
It is not Sigourney Weaver. There's one name remaining, you guys,
anybody want to take a stab at the last name?

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
No, all right, I'll say Danny Glover, but that's Predators too,
and I know it's not right. Right.

Speaker 5 (01:27:20):
This was Laurence Fishburn, Laurence Fishburn, but he got Adrian
Brody and Predator.

Speaker 4 (01:27:27):
So that's two points.

Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
I'd like to guess at what is the theme? It
is a one word title that is a plural.

Speaker 4 (01:27:36):
That's correct.

Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
M that's what I was going to say. Damn, I
should have just gone for it.

Speaker 3 (01:27:42):
Ye, I needed to do for my only point, so
I knew you.

Speaker 5 (01:27:48):
All right, Let's go to number three. The first name
is David Caruso, the second name Chloe Webb, the third
name Kelly Preston. Oh, the fourth name.

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
Danny DeVito.

Speaker 3 (01:28:12):
Benny Twins say, because I think you might get this one,
but my only chance.

Speaker 4 (01:28:21):
I was still thinking, like the.

Speaker 5 (01:28:25):
Damn, I was thinking maybe you guys would guess monster stuff.
But you over that you have one? Nay, there you go. Yes,
so two more points for Benny.

Speaker 3 (01:28:35):
I'm just Twins. That's not a good sign for me.

Speaker 5 (01:28:38):
Yeah, I really thought you were going to get that one,
Buddy crud muffin. As they say, let's uh, let's go.
This is a family show.

Speaker 4 (01:28:53):
That's good.

Speaker 5 (01:28:54):
A number four. The first name is Cherry Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:28:59):
Benny signs signs.

Speaker 4 (01:29:05):
That's the first thing I think for Cherry Jones too.

Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
She's a multier.

Speaker 4 (01:29:13):
She was the.

Speaker 5 (01:29:16):
Like state trooper who finds mel Gibson's wife. So you
got four names from me. He's going to clean house
on this.

Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Abigail Breslan and yeah, wow, I
thought he was gonna say I was gonna jump in. Damn.

Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
Five point for Benny.

Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
Damn.

Speaker 4 (01:29:43):
That was impressive.

Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
Great game, great game.

Speaker 4 (01:29:49):
All right, I like you for this next one. Okay,
let's go to number five. Number five. The first name
is Chris O'Dowd ben.

Speaker 5 (01:30:11):
That is incredible, sticks, that is incredible.

Speaker 3 (01:30:15):
Definitely putting me first in the edit.

Speaker 4 (01:30:18):
That is yes.

Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
Melissa McCarthy, Yes.

Speaker 5 (01:30:22):
I had her first, by the way, because she was rose.

Speaker 4 (01:30:27):
Another five or five Benny, for sure, you know whatever.
