Speaker 1 (00:01):
The sun is shining out a cloud in the sky.
We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Some people.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
On some skis, but we.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Would rather sit on down and talk some movies. We're
the evid Indoorsmen. Come listen to our show. We're the
Evidendoorsmen at home are on the go. We're the evidendors Man.
We hope you love it olds.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
So come on in and stay. We'll do our best

Speaker 1 (00:36):
The indoors man.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
What is happening? I'm Rob Bluntchrist and I'm big and
we are the evid Indoorsman.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Hello, Hello, Hello, I'm doing well.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
You're so great. How are you? I thank you for asking.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Did you get to watch the entire Oscars that happened
the other night?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah? Pretty much the whole thing, Yes, last night in
our time. Yeah. I think I missed the first like
two minutes because it was it was starting a little
earlier than I anticipated. Thank you for the heads up
text that helped.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
I only saw it because when we were at dinner
it said the Oscars are starting in twelve minutes and
I was like what, Yeah, So I missed the first
like half hour, I didn't get to see it.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Oh fun. Yeah, uh it was good man, it was enjoyable.
I love Conan. I think he's great. I know you
do as well. It's fan He's just wonderful. I have
like the same gripes I have every year where I'm like, okay,
but maybe we don't do a twelve minute James Bond's
(01:52):
song montage and we just let these people who are
celebrating one of the high points of their career finish
their damn speed. It's like, especially like all these folks
that English is in their first language and we want
it to be more international. I don't know. That drives
me crazy. I know that, like obviously, you know it's whatever.
I know people are probably sick of me saying that,
(02:14):
but I'm just like, can we just let these people
have their lovely emotional moments please?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Because however, now I totally agree with you with the
the James Vond thing. Yeah I was, but that opening
I did go back.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
And wall opening was so yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
And that is one of the best, if not the best,
live vocal performances I've ever seen from Cynthia Revo.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
She's incredible. I agree. I don't mean let's get rid
of all that. I just mean like some of the
stupid stick stuff like we don't need it, you know. Like,
but yes, that opening was like it made me be
like I want them to win every award. Yeah, which
ended up being anura but uh, as it turned out,
(03:07):
I wasn't mad at that. No, same same here. Yeah,
I don't know, it was. It was pretty fun though,
I mean I don't there wasn't anything like super crazy
that happened. Culkin was funny with his like I get
to have another baby thing like that was funny. And
then I can't remember who it was. Someone called back
to it later, a young lady and I don't remember
(03:28):
if she was screenplay or something, it doesn't matter. She
like turned to her partner or her working partner. I
don't think they were entwined romantically, but she was like, well,
I'm not gonna have your babies, but I do love
you and thank you for always you know, being next
to work that. I was like, that's a good callback.
Nice work. I liked it, I know, so it was.
It was fun though, the best bit of the night
(03:51):
was oh what is her name? From Thelma the older
gal June Squib that he was so funny. Who was
she with? I can't even think of it right now.
It was Scarjo, that's right, Scarjo and her and man.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
That was cute.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I loved that little bit. She's like because it was makeup, right,
because she was like, and they did my makeup because
I'm actually and I can't remember the actor Bill scars Gard,
that's right, the guy who was it. She's like, yeah,
the Perfect Trinity or whatever, the Big Trio or whatever.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
It was Penny Wise and June Squib at the Oscars.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
The real June Squib is back home reading a book.
Like I just thought that was very silly and fun.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, that was good.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, I liked it. So you caught most of it,
though it sounds like I got most of it.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
And I went back and watched that, you know, this
Cynthia Revo thing. I got to see. The Adam Sandler
bit was funny.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
That was funny.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah, that was good.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
That like flew over my head. I thought it was
just an Adam Sandler bit and then I was like, oh,
the whole Ukrainian stuff that happened like that week, I
was like, I didn't even track that part of it.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Yeah, I wasn't thinking about that either.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, and maybe it wasn't even meant to be that.
I was just like, I don't know, Sandler's always just weird. Yeah,
yeah it worked perfect, I mean yeah, but yeah, that
was super funny.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Was Adam Sandler voice.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
That was pretty wonderful. I did really really like that
a lot.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah, it was fun.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yeah, there was a bunch of fun moments. I mean,
there wasn't as many like big speeches that were you know,
like Kiwai Kwan you know, was like amazing, and I
just was like bawling the whole time. There was definitely
some tears ship, but.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Not Adrian Brodie was trying to have that and it
just it felt like he didn't know what he was
going to say. Yeah, and it was just making me uncomfortable.
Yeah the whole time.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I also like, I understand that I'm I'm being confusing now.
I know. I just said, let's let them have their speech,
but they like they like telling them to shut off
the music. While I do think that's empowering, I am
like kind of a dick move a little bit, like, yeah,
you know, the producers are just trying to do their
(06:08):
job too, But I just think we should set it
up different. I'm a conundrum, but yeah, you really are.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I know.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
There's no pleasing me unless it's with a movie. Have
you seen any movies lately, Rob, I have?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I have, Yes. The last one I saw was September five.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Oh yeah, I just watched that too, right before the Oscars.
I did end up seeing that one kind of yeah,
funny movie, huh.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
It was fun. Yeah. So for people who don't know,
it's about the seventy two Munich Olympics where Israeli athletes
were taken hostage. It focuses mainly on the American broadcasting
crew and how they covered this situation. Yeah, it was
one of the first time there. It was the first
(06:55):
time in history that a terrorist situation was happening live
on the news. I thought it was pretty great. It
was intense, a lot of anxiety. Peter Sarsguard is probably
the biggest name in the film, although you'd recognize John
Magero and Ben Chaplin. I found it to be a
(07:15):
really good plot. It was made well, It moved along
and I get why it was up for Best Screenplay.
It felt short. I think it was like right at
an hour and a half but that's fine. Like I'd
much rather it feel short than have it be too long.
(07:39):
So yeah, definitely worth checking out. It's currently on Paramount
Plus if anybody is interested in checking it out.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
I enjoyed it. Yeah, I liked it too. Those like,
you know, sort of seeing an event from the sidelines
always works for me as a sort of like a
concept for a film, and the TV thing works so
well because it's so like high stress and whatever. Anyway,
I just think that's really cool. So yeah, I'm with you.
I liked it quite a lot. It was it was
(08:07):
and I didn't really know anything about all that because
you know, obviously it was from before we were around,
so but yeah, it was really cool.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
It had some crazy staff that there was like nine
hundred million people who watched it or something crazy nuts.
I don't know if it was that much, but it was.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
I think I think it actually was nine hundred million.
I'm pretty sure it was something close to that because
it was like crazy, what the hell are we even
talking about? You know, right, Yeah, yeah, it's pretty wild.
So nice. What movie did you watch? Well, I mentioned
mister keih Wee Kwan. I watched at the theater. It
Love Hurt or two Ago now already and man, what
(08:49):
a what a fun movie? This? This one's interesting because
it's only eighty three minutes, so another short one. As
it turned out, it felt like it really popped in
and popped out. Uh. It's a it's a little kooky
kind of fun story. It's a martial arts the action
film with some comedy in there. He is basically we
(09:10):
find out like a he's an assassin kind of guy
that has given up that life and now is a
real estate agent and so it's a lot of him
like being super wholesome and then turmoil happens after that,
and it's it's pretty funny and pretty great and it's
it's super enjoyable. I had a really good time. He's
amazing in everything. I think, you know, I we'll see
(09:32):
whatever he's in now. I feel like forever. Arianna Depos
is his like love interest in it, and she's just wonderful.
I love her too. Kwan's yeah interests, yeah, of sorts.
I mean they're definitely have a relationship. Maybe love interest
(09:53):
isn't quite.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Right, but it's a difference big.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Yeah, it's nothing like nothing weird happened so it's it's
almost like they were partners before or something. I don't know.
It is interesting. Marshaun Lynch is in it. He's really funny.
I really like hive him, and then just a bunch
of other great people show up that I won't wreck
because I think people should see this if you're looking
for just like a fun little it is definitely like
(10:20):
martial artsy So if like physical violence isn't your thing,
you know, stay away. But if you're okay with it's
not like super crazy gory or anything. People do die
and stuff, but it's nothing too wild, and it's a
pretty great you know, like fight choreography and stuff. So
I think you specifically will really like it.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
So yeah, I'll definitely check it out. I've heard nothing
about it.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah, it didn't. I don't even know if it has,
like what rating it got. Well this is it's only
five five out of ten on IMDb, So I thought
was fun. It's not like crazy memorable, you know, but
it's it was a good time, had nice time with it.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Cool.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yeah, have you been streaming anything?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I have, Yes, I believe you. I don't know if
it was the last episode or not, but you had
mentioned it Severance season two. Oh yeah, I'm all caught up.
So it's what six episodes, and yeah, I feel like
I know less about what's happening than I did in
the first episode.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
By do I agree with that.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
It kind of makes me feel like I did with Lost,
like I just have no idea what's happening. But I
like the characters. The filmmaking is awesome. It's good, dude,
so impressive.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
All the shots that they Yeah, it's so neat. I
love it.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
It's so cool. Ben Stiller is killing it. I'm still
into it, but feel like I'm gonna need some more
answers soon or I might start to lose interest, I
could say, but I'm currently still hooked. It's just a
little like give me something.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Yeah, I felt like we were getting answers and then
it was like and also, it's weirder even than you thought, right,
you know, you know, I'm with you. I'm still in
a fun way, so we'll have hope that they haven't
figured out. I just mostly am starting to get like, Okay,
is this gonna be like Lost where some of these
things don't matter? And they were just like introducing random
(12:26):
things like I don't want that please, no, thank you,
but we'll find.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
I don't think it's going to be like a Lost
in that way, just because I feel like Lost they
had so many more episodes that they were having to write, and.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
They legitimately part of that was they were negotiating a
contract I believe I've read, and so they didn't know
how many more seasons they had, so they were kind
of just punting, you know a little bit, and that shows.
But yeah, I agree, I think this will be more encapsulated, hopefully.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I hope. So we'll find. Yeah, what about you? What
have you been streaming?
Speaker 3 (13:03):
So I went to YouTube and watched a stand up
special by Ian Carmel, who I know I've mentioned to
you before. He does that All Fantasy Everything podcast. He
wrote for James Cordon and he actually wrote for this
is part of the reason I did it. He wrote
for the Oscars with Conan. He was one of the
(13:24):
writers in the room with them and actually has someone
asked him if the June squibbit was his, like on
Blue Sky, I think it was or something, and he
confirmed it was. So that's funny. So if you liked
that bit, you might like this. He is a special.
It's his first one. It's called Comfort Beyond God's Foresight,
(13:44):
which is really a that's a name, and it's super
super funny. I just think he's a super funny dude.
That is, he's got a really brilliant mind, but also
is like, you know, kind of just like a regular
schmo as well. So it's a it's a fun like
juxtaposition between like very smart comments and then stuff you
(14:07):
know that like I'm just down, I don't know, you know,
kind of the Nate Bargatzi kind of style stuff a
little bit. I think you would really like it, so
you should check it out. It's free on YouTube right now.
And yeah, Comfort Beyond God's Foresight. I really liked it.
That was fun, cool, cool, nice. Yeah, should we do
some plug us?
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Let's do it nice?
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Guess can visitis as always over on the Twitter Machine
where we're at Avid Endorsement with a Z. We're also
available on Facebook and Instagram and blue Sky, although those
Blue Sky handles I don't know what any of those are.
You're just gonna have to search or something. I don't know.
That's crazy Instagram do I say that? But if you
(14:49):
really want to hang out and be part of the
crew that's.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
About to go patreon dot com slash the Avid endorsement. Yeah,
it's a great time on Patren. We love our patrons.
We give them lots of perks. One of those is
getting a shout out here. Let's give a big shout
out to Marsha Greasiak, Mary Fox, Nanette Walkley, Johan Brostaid
deb Olk, and Noel Flores. You guys are wonderful. And
(15:14):
another perk excuse me that we like to give our
editors an extended version of every episode we put out,
we'll do a top five draft that pertains to the
movie we're talking about, and for this one, we decided
to do our top five movie characters that were recast.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
This will be interesting, This will be interesting. I feel
like there's some like ambiguity here, so that'll be fun.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Yeah. I feel like there's some really big ones and
it should be It should be good.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
I hope I didn't forget any obvious ones, like, say,
perhaps one of my favorite movies of all time.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
We'll find out, Yeah, Whips a Doodle, Oh gosh, but.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
We will look forward to that coming attractions. We're also
going to look forward to How to Train Your Dragon,
the original animated. We're gonna be doing that. That must
be having anniversary though I don't remember.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
The teenth I think fifteenth anniversary. And then it's right
before the new one is coming out, the.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
New one that just looks like a remake. But you
know what, action though, they're going to make so much money.
They don't care what I think about that either, all
the money. Yeah, so that'll be fun. I love that movie,
so it'll be fun to rewatch because it's been a
while for me anyway, So yeah, any who's that'll be great.
But we're here today for a little Marvel madness, ladies
and gentlemen, as we talk about Captain America Brave New World,
(16:38):
and you know, we had to get our guy back,
you know, for this Marvel guy, he's taking up the
shields and he's ready to hang out with us. So
let's give it up for Riley Zamber.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
What's up, Riley?
Speaker 4 (16:52):
Hello, my friend buddy, How are.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
You Fellas so good?
Speaker 4 (16:58):
How are you pal doing pretty good? Doing pretty good?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Yeah, exciting news, excited.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Very exciting news in the house here. Yeah. The cliff
Notes story is that I was I was procrastinating seeing
this when you guys asked me to be on the
pod because I hadn't seen it yet, and then I
was like, you know what, this is safe. It's still
like a week until my expecting little girl is supposed
to arrive, and I go to the theater. Kensa's like, yeah,
(17:27):
we got it. I think my sister in law was
hanging out and then I get a text when there's
about thirty five minutes left and she's like, hey, uh,
things are feeling different.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
And I was like, oh man, okay.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
She's like, you don't have to rush like from the movie,
but like cause she gets she would get a lot
of Braxton hicks, which are like practice contractions, you know,
throughout the entire pregnancy, and she's like, hey, those are
different today this evening, and I was like, oh okay.
So then I get home and she's like, yeah, I
was having to like stop cooking dinner a couple of
times and like take a really struggle breath. So then
(18:03):
lo and behold the day that we were supposed to
film this podcast. Last week, my daughter was born, which
is super super rad, adorable and yeah, so special and
so like we were just talking about a moment ago.
Ken's was like, you saw the movie, you need to
go do the pod. I got these kids, it's all good.
You go talk to the guys. And so I'm very grateful.
(18:26):
She's the best.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
She's the best. I felt so guilty just even texting you,
like do you still want to do this?
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Do have to record it? But I totally get it.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
If you cannot do it, cannot Yeah, if you don't.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
Want to it now or never, like you're invited, but
it's okay.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
No.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
It was very you were very kind and very but
and I was. I danced that as well. I was like, hey, babe,
and she was like, yep, you got it, you can
go do it.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
So so fun.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
Yeah, so I'm here. I made it.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
I also thought it was hilarious when you were like,
can we push the podcast because I am having a child.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Wednesday morning last week. I said, hey, guys, I think
I've got a pretty good scapegoat right now for needing
to postpone the podcast, and it's that my child is born.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Well that's great, buddy, We're so happy. Thanks for making
the tiends.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yes, she's the MVP of this episode. For sure.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
She's bad. If you want to support that bad ass,
go to hound Fox music dot com or any streaming
service ever and go listen to the two Lullaby albums
which might be getting some playtime.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
Get some playtime here at the house for sure.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Yeah, for sure, and all kinds of other stuff that
they have out there, so you know, it might be
a while. So there's something new which is understandable.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
But we got plans, but we're taking it slow, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
So much content is already there, which it's delightful. So
check that out hand, Fox Music, Doug com do it.
But fellers, what do you think should we get started
to talk about Captain America, Brave New World.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Let's do it.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Let's do it? Okay, rap, Well you could have started
with just a rough synopsis.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Sure, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international
incident after meeting with President Fattius Ross. He must soon
discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the
true mastermind has the entire world seeing red all.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Look what they did.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
There's a great good job. So happy with themselves with
that good Fattius.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
I went for it, like it.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
I liked it a lot. Let's go to Rotten Tomadelson
here what critics thought of it?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (20:50):
They have this coming in at a rock solid forty.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Not great. That's not good. Maybe the lowest of these
we've done in a while, in a while, in a while, Yeah,
probably not lowest. Ever, it's close. It's a good thing
to keep track of.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
I think it's close. I bet it's I bet it's
down there.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
It's gotta be. It seems well, we'll get into it,
audience members. They'll have it up at eighty percent, which
is pretty good, not terrible, not terrible, not bad. But
let's go into uh, talk about what we think. It's
time for our hot take.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Hot take.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Oh spices, that's a hot take, that's a hot taste
Red Red. I think in the comics he's like a
nuclear clear.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Oh yeah, his skin kind of burns his clothes off
a little bit. It's kind of they kind of lean
into that.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yeah yeah, but I think his thing, Hulk's thing is
that he gets stronger as he gets madder, and this
guy's thing is he gets more radioactive. Oh and then
actually physically warmer.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
You're educated sweaty, Yeah, sweat gets sweaty.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Anyway, hot take. Nobody cared about that, and it also
it might not be right. I thought this movie was
pretty good. I've seen it twice now, so I did
go back for a rewatch.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Wow. Nice, because you know that.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
I feel like I don't do myself or these movies
a favor when I'm trying to figure out what they're
doing and what direction they're going while I'm watching them,
you know, So I feel like the second watch is
always a little bit better for me usually, and I
definitely felt that way this time. I enjoyed the second
watch a lot more than the first one. I thought
there was a lot of good action scenes in it.
(22:34):
It is a little like Blase a little bit. You
can definitely tell that there was some reshoots. There were
some things that they seem to like have other ideas
about characters that you know, we'll probably get into as
we go on that they may be rethought and things
like that. But overall I thought it was It was
a pretty good movie. It had some interesting stuff. It
(22:58):
kind of just falls into the like everything after Endgame
kind of. It's just like I'm just waiting for that
that hook to really set and get me again. But
I'm obviously in for all of them anyway, so maybe
they're not worried about that, I thought. I thought there
was a why can't I think of his name right now?
(23:21):
Who struggling Sam Anthony Mackie, Sorry Anthony Mackie. I thought
he did a pretty good job, honestly, in a really
like difficult spot to be in with not a lot
of momentum in the Marvel universe. Anyway, He's taking over
the mantle in this movie. You know, he had the
(23:41):
show that was like also received with mixed reviews. I
actually thought he was pretty great in this. They powered
him up just enough where I felt like it was
at least conceivable that he could hang in some of
these fights more than he used to. I thought he
really showed, you know, some of the same like ethos
that can and you could I could tell why Steve
(24:03):
liked him right and why he thought he was the
man for the job. So I did like that at
the very least, I thought there was some compelling stuff
in this. They really wasted a couple bad guys, I
felt like because I just never I never really got
a feeling for who was the main baddie. I mean
I did, but I was also like, make me feel it,
(24:24):
don't just tell me, you know, like you know, kind
of really make it, make me go into it, but
I think more and more the part that I liked
was the as more like turmoil happens with all these
superpowered individuals and mutants and things like that. I think
we're getting into like a really interesting phase for maybe
(24:44):
like a totalitarian type government to come in, and that'll
segue nicely into some X Men stuff that they do
really really well. So I think that could be kind
of cool. Especially after these big movies coming up, There's
gonna be like a little bit of a backlash with
all the which I think will be interesting. And yeah,
I thought this movie was pretty good. It's like a
(25:05):
solid like B for me. I had a good time.
But my hottest take is this movie would have been
one million times cooler if I didn't see the flying
Red Hulk in every trailer that ever existed for this
movie coming. It makes me crazy on the inside because
they didn't. Just like the one where they showed an
(25:26):
arm that was like a Hulk arm and it was red.
I was like, Okay, that's like you're kind of giving
it away, but not everyone's gonna know. We saw like
footage of him fighting in the cherry trees, like on
that lane, which is the final scene of the I'm
I'm so mad that they do that and it and it.
(25:49):
They're so like pervasive. There's no way you can avoid this.
Really if you're especially if you're watching sports or anything
like that on live TV, you're gonna see these stupid trailers.
And it just made me so mad for this one
because I there was no reveal. I feel like they
could have had, you know, hearkening back to that sort
of like kind of like spy games, espionage stuff. None
(26:13):
of that stuff was really had any weight to it
because we knew it was coming. We sort of knew
what the third act was gonna be. So that's my
hottest take. I was real mad about.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
That's hope that there was going to be more to it.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
You know, like sometimes they'll fake us out. They didn't
fake us out at all in these trailers. They just
I think sort of as like, we really need people
to see this, so we have to show them to
get you know, people on board. They're in the same way.
But yeah, anyway, that is my overall pretty tepid take.
But yeah, no, that's a hot take.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
That's absolutely a hot take that I thought this movie's okay.
It wasn't terrible, it wasn't amazing. It was directed by
Julius Ona, who really hasn't done a bunch. He did
the last Cloverfield movie, The Cloverfield Paradox. I else did
a drama called Loose that I didn't see, but pretty
(27:10):
big film for someone with not a huge resume, and
thought he did pretty well. They brought in a bunch
of writers and a few of them wrote on The
Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, which I thought was smart.
It was really fun bringing Harrison Ford to come in
and replace William Hurt. It was pretty cross if you
(27:30):
got to replace William Hurt. Harrison Ford number one on
the list. He's awesome. Bringing Joaquin back from the Falcon
in The Winner Soldier was great. I'm a big fan
of that character and that actor. I would have never
guessed ever, that that Shira Haas, who I saw on
(27:50):
the Netflix show Unorthodox, would end up being a Marvel
character that's like kicking dudes asses. She's so tiny, he's
so little. She's a great actress and she I thought
she did a good job, you know, in the action
sequences and stuff, But man, I did not picture that
(28:13):
happening ever. No, I'm really glad Tim Blake Nelson got
a little redemption from his previous Marvel role in The
Incredible Hulk. His character got really goofy at the end
of that, so it was fun that he was able
to come back and and be pretty scary and kind
of a kind of a cool battie. It took me
a while to get into this movie, I felt. I
(28:37):
feel like Anthony Mackie's role is just like a little vanilla.
It like starts to get more compelling as it goes on,
but it just took me. It just takes me a while.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
I was into it by the end, but like it's
just yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Fault yeah. So it's just kind of me for me.
My hot take, I totally agree with you on your
hot take. Another thing just with like the filmmaking is
some of the worst overdubs I've seen in a while.
I caught several of them in the theater. Ooh, I
love and when it's.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
I didn't catch I wasn't paying attention. That's usually my thing.
I catch overdubs like they were early on really.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
And there was at least two very early and just
like a big budget movie like this. I feel like
I shouldn't be noticing things like that.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
And like cut around it.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Not only cut around it, but dude's AI At this point,
they can deep fake an entire face. You could deep
fake some lips saying something else to make it match.
If you've got to overdub something, you know what I mean,
there's other methods. It's unforgivable at this point.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I noticed too within the first twenty minutes, and I
like wrote it down. I'm like, what is happening?
Speaker 3 (29:47):
I think they were involving what I assume we're pretty
big rewrites. Yeah, for both what's that guy's name? Sidewinder,
the Sidewinder character, and then for the gal that you
said you're.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
That Sidewinder bit, Like that's another hot take, just like
why did we even bring him into this movie? An
amazing actor?
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Yeah, he was great, give him anything to do.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
He ate every moment that he was on screen. It
just was it was like woefully wasted.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Yeah talking about junk Carlos, Yes, for others.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
So I guess that's my hottest take is like why
why did we waste him?
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Yeah, that's the opportunities. Yeah, really he could come back,
but for sure.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
But yeah, it was weak. It was really weak, very strange.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Yeah, I'm with you, hot take pal, thank you.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
What you got buddy.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Okay, here's my hot take. First of all, I'll apologize
to listeners if my internet cuts out and we're all
like out of sink because it's a little bit wonky today.
But I definitely lean a little more towards Rob's feelings
about this. I will say I'm easy to enter, especially
if it's a superhero movie at all, let alone the
(31:03):
Marvel Cinematic universe. I'm easy to please. And I was
entertained in this, Like it was, like you said, bugs,
There's some really great action, some great cinematography. It was
very beautiful like looking, you know, which I can always appreciate.
And visually, wow, that was great, some really great you know,
v effects, especially later on with Red Hulk looking tasty.
(31:25):
It was awesome. But like it was really super lukewarm
for me, which is a bummer because the Cap trilogy
is awesome, you know what I mean. Like the worst
of the of the first three CAP movies is the
first one, just because it's a little bit like campy
and you know, and then Winter Soldier is legendary and
(31:47):
then Civil War is unbelievable, like yeah, and like I think,
I also felt like the Winter Soldier, the Falcon Winter
Soldier show was a little bit from me lukewarm, you
know what I mean. There's some cool stuff in there,
they introduced some neat things. It was very like politically driven,
and I don't mean that in.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
A bad way.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
I like it just was it didn't hold the same
excitement for me. And then I went into this thinking, oh,
they're trying to do some cool stuff connecting some even
bigger things, you know, like showing Red Hulk aside in
the trailers, which I also think, like you said, bugs
was so so bad. They could have done something where
they show like just his irises turn red just slightly,
(32:27):
just to be like, what's going on, just to get
you excited, because showing that whole showing his whole you know,
look and transformation, it's like, okay, spoiler alert, Like that's
that's the kind of thing that people lose their minds
for in the movie for the first time, not when
you watch the trailers. So it was very for me
(32:47):
in that sense, but like I have a hard time
kind of wrapping my head around what I didn't love
so much. I thought, I like it was like a
bunch of really great actors. I mean, I've always loved
Anthony Mackie as Samuelson. Samuelson. Every appearance that he's made
is great, from like sidekick zone in Winter Soldier to
(33:11):
like start like starting to helm his own his projects himself.
He was even I liked him a lot better in
Falcon Winter Soldier as a show, and I think that
boils down to a lot of like messy writing and
trying to like and like with this world building they
were trying to do. I think it was the perfect
attempt with this sort of grounded espionage stuff. You know,
that's where like Cap kind of belongs if he's by himself.
(33:34):
The intergalactic stuff is like really big for Captain America,
you know, so especially a not superpowered Captain America. Uh,
it makes sense to go this grounded like espionage route
with like this new president who was a hot head
general and all this stuff where they're you know, I
liked I liked Eternals a lot, so I thought it
was cool to see the celestial emergence come back in
(33:57):
this introduce the introduction of Vibrania of not vibranium, sorry, adamantium.
It's huge because that's like a big X Men thread,
massive x Men thread. I don't know. I'm excited to
see how they tie that into stuff. That was cool
because that was such a big question mark all this
like gigantic world size being starts to crash out of
(34:18):
the ocean. We're never going to talk about it.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
So that was cool to say that.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
And it was interesting that they went with this kind
of light incredible Hulk sequel vibe with like with Tim
Blake Nelson as as Sterns and like tying in a
lot of that stuff. I was surprised we didn't see
the abomination in this like you know what I mean,
like there was they really went with those threads. Also, okay,
side note, we're not gonna there's not even gonna be
a mention of Bruce. He's on Earth as like smart Hulk,
(34:44):
like not that he has to make an appearance, because
that's like a you know, but like they're not even
gonna talk about him. They're not even gonna, like Thaddeus
Ross should absolutely reference that this guy that he hates
that he hunted is now like a famous super hero,
you know, what I mean, like that he's that in
like Civil War was like you lost basically a nuclear missile.
(35:07):
In the Hulk, he's off world, like all these things.
Those were weird loose ends that I was confused that
they didn't tie in. Sorry, small tangent. It was just
everybody individually it like wanted to work so bad, but
it just didn't ever get there. Like you said, Rob,
it's real like at the beginning, I'm like, what are
we doing here? What is this about? Who is the villain?
(35:28):
And I think for me it was just a it
was muddy, you know what I mean. The cream of
the crop, the kream Dela creme of this movie was
the final fight with Red Hulk. Let's all just agree
that was breathtaking and amazing, but like but it was
like not too little, too late, just like that they
(35:49):
just wanted to get there. That's all they want to
do is just get get to that fight.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
But also like why are we getting I think they
did a good job showing Thaddeus having you know, some
like he's he is trying to change, he's trying to
be different, he's reaching out to his daughter. We get
live Tyler in the very end of the movie, Why
didn't she come When they talk about how it was
so special that they were in these cherry blossoms together,
(36:15):
why didn't she show up and be the one that
finally got.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Him back back?
Speaker 4 (36:19):
And it could have been a.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Cool sunsetting big.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Exactly, like exactly exactly, dude, exactly, I was one of
the same thing. And like that they you said it bugs.
I forget how you worded it, but it was like
they they just kind of told us all the stuff
that was happening. We were it was.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
They wanted to be.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Clever with it. They wanted to be clever with Stearn's
kind of poisoning Thaddeus over time and like causing his
anger and rage that's sort of latent within him to
like lead to this losing control and like this revenge
that he wanted against Ross. But like they just told
us it was happening. They just keep doing hyper close
(37:01):
ups of his little pills and then he just like
tells us halfway through, and I'm like, that's not clever,
that's just that's just your excuse to make him turn
into the Red Hulk, you know what I mean? They
could they could have just been dropping us little hints
throughout and not made it so like obvious that like Thaddeus,
he wants to be better and then all of a
(37:22):
sudden he's just being a douche. Like again, It's was
very hot and cold for me, and I couldn't quite
I couldn't quite figure it out, you know what I mean.
So long story short, I was sadly, like more disappointed
than I was hoping. I really wanted it to be
better because I love Anthony Mackie, I love all the
like ingredients were there, but something maybe it was the reshoots,
(37:45):
maybe they just were trying to lead into something else.
It just really never quite got there for me. Elements.
I loved characters, I loved interactions, VFX, fight scene choreography,
but as a whole, it just was it was just
messy for me. And that's a bummer because you know me,
I'm an MCU stand up.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
In here, but.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
I couldn't do it for me. Guys, I would give
it like a C you know, real average for me,
not the worst, not my least favorite.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
But yeah, yeah, dude, I were I feel very similar
the way you put it, for sure.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Great, well, some hot takes all around. Everybody talk about
our favorite acting performance. Let's name the dude.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Dude.
Speaker 6 (38:32):
I'm the dude, So that's what you call me, you
know that? Or his dudeness or duder or you know,
el dud reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing,
rather who you got for the dude.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
It was a hard one for different reasons than usual,
because I feel like the writing didn't allow these amazing
actors to shine as much as they could. Anthony Mackie
is a home run youly for me, and he felt
a little bit underutilized compared to normal Sam Wilson, you
know what I mean. Yeah, But and then Harrison Ford
(39:10):
such a legend. Again, I was a little bit like, whoa,
what do we do in here? Harrison? Like you know,
it was again, I think the writing the actors are incredible,
they just weren't given the right platforms to work with.
But I think I gotta go Anthony Mackie because even
all that being said, he really was the heart and
soul of this whole thing, and they're putting a lot
(39:31):
of faith. They're putting a lot of faith in him,
in Sam Wilson and Anthony Mackie as an actor and
a character within this franchise. He did a great job.
He really he did keep me engaged and like he
kept my heart in it despite being like ooh some
of my my gripes that I had, you know, so
I do got to give it to him. And it
(39:51):
was like a surprisingly small cast. Whereas a lot of
Marvel movies have like forty people you could choose from.
It was a little bit smaller, a little bit like
more I get grounded, you know. So I do think
I can't not give it to him. He was He was,
all things considered, still very enjoyable and I think did
a great job with what they were trying to do
with him, if that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Yeah, yeah, he did the best he could do with
what he was given. I get that. Yeah, I'm gonna
go Harrison Ford just because I love him so much.
He really can do no wrong for me these days.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
He's legend, a real prime right now. I feel like he.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Really is, Yeah, just killing it. But I thought it
kind of worked that it was a new actor playing
Ras since he had changed so much in this film. Yea,
and yeah, I thought he was great playing the new
leader trying to change for the better, but still had
all that baggage and he's just such a stud I
(40:50):
just love him.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Yep, that's nice. I love that. I had the same
sort of I went back and forth a couple of times,
but I think I am going to pick Harrison as well. Again.
I really I'm with you, Riley. I really like Anthony
Mackey a lot. I just feel like they didn't give
him anything in this for character development, because yeah, he's
really just the same dude the whole time.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
It really did. It really did feel like they were like,
we're gonna utilize Harrison Ford to the maximum in this,
and they almost it almost was like a Harrison Ford movie,
like he was more of a prominent, dominant character than
you would expect a sort of more secondary person to be.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
Totally. Yeah, which then I'm like, okay, lean into it again, right,
like have him do like the Gandal for Dumbledore thing
of being like it's not how long we get, it's
how we choose to use that time or something, you know, like, yeah,
have him give us some ethos then. But yeah, anyway,
but Harrison Ford, I agree.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
I'm on board with that. Yeah, he's just wonderful.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
He's really good in this and in a again a
film with not a ton of depth. He really brings
it to a place where it wouldn't have been without
am so oh for sure. Yeah, I'm gonna take him.
Like nice, how about we name all these other fine people.
Let's name the Tucci, the Tucci Duoche. Yeah, how about
(42:12):
this one, Riley?
Speaker 4 (42:13):
I mean, it's easily Harrison Ford because he was right
well sure, he was right there for me. I mean,
he's your guys' number one for me. It was hard
to choose between. But I think that my only trepidation
was that, you know, having rewatched a lot of the
MCU recently with Rowan like seeing you know, we lost
William Hurt, so there's no replacing him directly. But the
(42:35):
Thaddeus that William Hurt embodied was really nasty. Like he's
a nasty guy and really irredeemable. And that's part of
the whole point of this was that to try and
create redemption for him. But I didn't as amazing as
Harrison was, I was missing a little bit of like
what got him here, you know, if that makes sense,
(42:58):
Like like he's trying to turn a new leaf, and
he even make the joke about shaving the mustache, you know,
like they like lean into Okay, we got a different
guy playing the character. But I almost wanted to like
again sort of the not being being shown, like not
told exactly, like seeing a different side of him and
(43:20):
not because he seems he comes out of the gate.
He's just like I'm a new man. And then all
of a sudden he's like telling Sam, You're not you know,
Steve Rogers, and I'm like, whoa dick move? Like like
you have no idea how he was involved in this.
It just was very hot. That's very hot and cold,
you know what I mean. But he was stellar. It's
Harrison Ford. He freaking is. He can do no wrong.
He steps on screen and it's cold.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
I was thinking it would have been fun if he
would have chose to become Red Hulk, Like he had
all this stuff leading him up to it, and they
were leading him up to this point and then he
was finally like, you know what, I'm a wartime general
and I have this atomic bomb of myself here, screw it.
Speaker 4 (43:57):
I'm like, he's unaware of it. As as it builds up,
he's unaware. And then all of a sudden, that little
voice you know from Stearns comes in and then he
like actually actively gives into it. That's a very interesting
thought because yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
That would have been neat. I don't know how you
would have done that.
Speaker 4 (44:13):
But not sure. That's why we're not in the writer's chair.
But and then like I loved that.
Speaker 3 (44:18):
Yeah, get Danny.
Speaker 4 (44:19):
Danny Ramirez is his character. He was so great. He
was the he was the he was the Anthony Mackie
to Anthony Mackie, you know what I mean. So, like
he just brought such a lovely little humor. It was
almost like too humorous. I'm like, dude, you're like a soldier,
and it was like constant quips. But like, he was
lovely and very fun and I think embodied a great
(44:43):
Falcon for a new cap and he was great.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
Yeah, absolutely, Yeah, I loved him then that is why
I chose him as well. So I just felt like
he gave the film a lot of life. He's so
excited to be the next Falcon, very funny lines. I
thought he brought a lot to it. He was. He
was one of my favorites. I was debating for him,
honestly for.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
The dude nice that Yeah, he really felt fresh and new,
which was nice.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
And I liked him. He was underutilized in Falcon Winter Soldier,
and then he came into this.
Speaker 2 (45:19):
Yeah, yeah, right, agreed, What do you got, Viges.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
I liked Carl Lumley as Isaiah Bradley. I think is
a super compelling character. I wish they would have maybe
given him more again, still like lean into it a
little more, but I thought he did a great job
with what he had, And it kind of seems like
we're going to see maybe even a little more of him,
which will be kind of fun, maybe only for a
(45:46):
short while as we get into like secret wars and stuff.
But I thought he was really great. I really liked
him a lot. John Carlo Esposito, like we all said,
he's such a fine actor. That scene where he like
out of nowhere attacks Sam in the car is pretty cool.
But then just like nothing else really happens. You know,
(46:08):
that's just a bummer. I feel I really do feel
like they wasted him. Yeah, they and and talk about
underutilized that Shosha Rochmore, who could have been really interesting.
She was the like secret service agent for Thaddeus and
like was a friend of Sam's and I guess is
sort of like a love interest. I think in the
(46:30):
in the comics of sam they just didn't give her
anything to do. They kept talking about she was important,
and then she just didn't do a lot.
Speaker 4 (46:38):
No, she was just like a con She's just like
a conduit for things to happen.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
It wasn't like yes, yeah, so, and kind of the
same for oh, what was her name, Shira Harris. Yeah,
she just all I could think was she's so tiny.
The best I can guess is like they had more
for her to do, but she's from Israel, and so
they wanted to shy away because of the like Israel
(47:03):
Palestine stuff maybe or something. I don't know if that's
the reason, but it felt like, I don't know, like
why they They gave her enough development that I felt
like there had to be more, and then nothing else happened,
so just.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
Kind of fizzled.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
Yeah, she was a black widow, which I thought was
interesting and cool, and then just like she did kick
some ass in two scenes, but the whole time I
was just like, she is so tiny.
Speaker 4 (47:31):
Yeah, that's all you can think about it.
Speaker 3 (47:34):
It's like amazing.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
Yeah, But yeah, my runner up was going to be
Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Stearns. I love him as
an actor. Like I said, it was great that he
got a little bit of redemption for the way they
ended him in The Incredible Hulk. It was kind of brutal. Yeah,
I agree, one little gripe is just like I mean,
(47:58):
I guess they've done it in the past, but I
don't really explain how like little flashes on a phone
is going to make somebody just do whatever.
Speaker 4 (48:08):
That was super mcguffhany. They just were like, this happens
and then believe us please, and that was all right.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
Also he can he can see everything, including like things
that are on a celestial level. He can see probabilities
for those things. Yeah, so just just go with us,
you know.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
Right, believe us, just trust us. He can he can
see every iteration of every possible thing. But also he
got his ass whooped in the end.
Speaker 2 (48:32):
Still yeah, right.
Speaker 4 (48:34):
Again, I think I loved him as well, but underutilized
and also not the character like motivations in the narrative
around him not written as well. If he's supposed to
be so smart and clever, like show us how unbelievably
clever he is. Like again, he just it's just exposition
he's just like telling them what he's going to do.
I'm like, that's not what this guy that can see
(48:55):
every possible outcome would do, you know what I mean,
Like maybe he just doubts the human nature of the characters.
Speaker 3 (49:02):
But and again, like make him set them up to
make the choice.
Speaker 4 (49:06):
Yeah, exactly, that's clever. That's that's that's sneaky, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
Yeah, it's interesting. Uh yeah, any other runners up we
feel like we have to do.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
I mean, the one of the best scenes in the
whole movie is when Sebastian stan Yup comes back.
Speaker 4 (49:23):
Oh yeah, in my mouth, I was gonna say, it's
one of my favorite scenes him coming back. It was
so genuine and heartfelt and awesome.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
Yeah, he killed it really great. We know that he's
like is he running for congress.
Speaker 4 (49:36):
Congress or something? Yeah, which makes Thunderbolts look that much
more interesting that he comes kind of back into winter
soldieriness after being a congressman or running at least, it's
like super interesting. How that's gonna unfold?
Speaker 3 (49:48):
Yeah, yeah, and it'll be interesting for sure. I'm excited
for Thunderbolts. I think it's gonna be great.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
I'm really excited for that one. I'm super hopeful. I
think it's gonna be a choice and awesome.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Yeah yeah, I'm excited too.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
What uh that's all I have? I think, Yeah, Tyler
in it. But oh yeah, yeah, it was great to
see her. I was like, cool, we find this are
But it would have been cool.
Speaker 4 (50:13):
Like you said, she needed a bigger part in that
she needed to be part of bringing the humanity back
out of her dad, who's kind of a hot head. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
Yeah, And I hadn't thought about the Bruce thing. Bruce
should have been there, like even at the end or something.
I don't like teaching Thaddeus how to control them, so
should be like he did for she Hulk, but.
Speaker 4 (50:31):
Bring him in as a cameo like Live Make Live
happen earlier in the movie where she helps him, and
then have Bruce come into the raft and be like,
let me teach you how to how to work on
controlling that anger or something like that, you know what
I mean. Like that would have been such like acknowledged
that these guys still live in the same universe. They're
like enemies.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
Maybe they don't. Maybe that's what we're gonna learn or
something like who knows.
Speaker 4 (50:54):
Oh that's a hot little conspiracy take.
Speaker 3 (50:57):
I think there's I think there has to be. But yeah, yeah, anyhow,
let's talk about some of these scenes. Let's name our favorite.
It's time to name the danga is quite simple, really, dingus, Dingus.
I can talk about my dingas all night long.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
Not the dingis.
Speaker 5 (51:15):
Oh yeah, the Big Red Hulk, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (51:27):
Yeah, man, I really there were, like I said, visually
and like from a choreography standpoint, there's some pretty stellar,
like fight scenes in this some really cool stuff trying
to like utilize and show that like even though he's
not a super soldier, that Sam's still very capable like
as a fighter. So there's some rad fight scenes kind
(51:48):
of leaning into his agility and his like you know
that kind of stuff. Also huge bonus for him that
he just gets a vibranium suit that what I'm a
guffin right there to make it so he can survive.
Speaker 3 (51:57):
All of this amazing. Yeah, good for him.
Speaker 4 (52:01):
With Condon's for the assist on that one. I really
liked the dog fight around the celestial emergence thing. That
was a really good fight with like sort of these
mind controlled guys, and like the tension between like is
Japan going to counterattack? YadA YadA? That was pretty rad.
I like that a lot. And then the brief little
emotional scene with Bucky coming in and talking to him
(52:23):
was way up there. But like it's obviously the Red
Hulk fight scene. Like for me, it's what the whole
thing led to. They spoiled the whole damn thing to
us in the trailers, and it was it was sick
because he's just like this again, we go full rage monster,
but even with more of a like more more there
(52:45):
cognitively than the initial sort of Hulk raging. I feel
like had like he had it out for Sam specifically,
and it was well done. And again that was they
were showing, Wow, Sam is not invincible and he's doing
everything he can to not die against this like godlike being.
It was well done. It was like, not like I
(53:05):
said before, not too little, too late, but I wish
they had maybe gotten us there differently. But the scene
as a whole by itself so sick.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
It's what beautiful with those cherry blossoms, gorgeous.
Speaker 4 (53:18):
The vibrancy of his skin and like the little flex
of stuff burning on him. It was very well done
and made it like worth it in the end, I think.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
Yeah. Yeah. Also, they showed him getting cut the Red
Hulk getting cut by like the knives and the wings.
Speaker 4 (53:35):
Like the vibranium wing stabbies.
Speaker 3 (53:37):
Yeah, uh huh, that's cool. I liked that too.
Speaker 4 (53:39):
Was not immortal for sure, that was Yeah, it was
really that was the best by far from me.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
Yeah, man, again, very similar. My favorite dramatic scene was
Bucky talking with Sam at the hospital. My favorite action
scene was what you had said. My runner up was
the dog fight. Okay, that was awesome. The only other
thing that I wrote was very early on the fight
(54:06):
between Sam and Copperhead. Is his name the Big?
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Yeah, Yes, that's fun.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
Like that was pretty fun.
Speaker 4 (54:13):
It was a good one. Yeah, it was a very
good That.
Speaker 2 (54:16):
Was some good choreo. And I like that. Dude was
just so cocky and it was fun.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
Just giant.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Yeah, big, I heard a rib give or something.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
You need a minute?
Speaker 2 (54:28):
I like, I like that.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
You're right.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
If we're gonna let's lean into it. If we know
we're doing this, let's go for it.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
You know.
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (54:39):
Again, showing Sam is not as strong as Cap would
have handled out his ass on a platter Sam's Sam's
got to work for it a little more, and I
like that's a good way to show us right at
the beginning.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
Yeah, I love that also. Well, so I guess I'm
just going to add like add ons to yours because
those were mostly what I picked as well. That first
fight scene where they're sort of like storming the complex too.
That just the initial drop where he relies on the
sonic boom to then like push push everyone down. That
was a cool effect. I really liked that a lot.
(55:11):
I thought that was neat and super just like badass
and cool. I liked it a lot. I feel like
them also specifically saying the suit is made of vibranium
also means at some point adamantium is going to get
shown cutting the suit, you know, because that's like such
a big thing stronger, So that'll be neat someday perhaps.
(55:35):
I really liked that in that giant, big fight when
he throws the US flag like a javelin into the helicopter.
That was so cool really, like that was like pure
just like hell, yeah, I really liked that all It
was just really it was cool and man, they really
made the red hull c look dynamite in you know,
(55:57):
there was a couple of times where he didn't look
as good, but the ones where he did, he looked
like that CGI was perfect. It was really really cool.
I wrote down honorable mention to just the exposition of
the very first shot almost where they're talking about this
new that adamantium is inside of the you know, the
(56:19):
big the big beast. Yeah. I just love that from
world building that that might be the thing I remember
about this movie the most because it's gonna affect things
the most going forward, I think. And it just makes
me be like Wolverine, let's go, you know, like love him.
Speaker 4 (56:35):
So that's good. Let's efan go.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
Yeah, And just one one scene and it's just kind
of a shot. In this scene, it's when on the
plane Tim Blake Nelson is letting the president know that
he has been giving him these pills for this very
reason behind him and this is probably because I saw
it twice behind him. They're flying on Air Force one,
(57:00):
and it goes from sun filling the cabin through the
window behind the President as he's learning this to this
physical shadow comes over like covered by a cloud or
the or.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
You know, tea mud or whatever.
Speaker 3 (57:12):
It is, and it just darkens in that moment as
he realizes. And I loved that like from a pure
like visual you know, kind of like the in the
Spider Man movie Homecoming when we see like the green
light reflect in Michael Keaton's eyes, you know, when he realizes.
It felt very that kind of homage to me.
Speaker 4 (57:33):
And I really love those little mirroring cinematography. Why is
that mirror? What's just say?
Speaker 3 (57:39):
Nugget? I feel like I don't recognize that stuff all
the time. So oh that's cool. That's crazy done that
on purpose? Like that was neat. I really liked it.
But yeah, I think it's either the first fight scene
for me or the last one, honestly, or probably the
two if we're doing like big bombastic scenes.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think we do the last one.
Speaker 3 (58:01):
Love it.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
That feels that feels right.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Chosen, it feels right.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Well, let's do some quotes.
Speaker 3 (58:07):
Let's show me the money, show me the money.
Speaker 7 (58:12):
Show did not have a lot for this, No, this
is a hard one to harvest quotes from.
Speaker 4 (58:22):
There's a couple of gems and will probably agree on
them if we have found lists, so I will I
will give one instead of all of them and then
you guys can fill in the resk. I think it
probably goes without saying that it's a more heartfelt one,
and it's the it's the Steve gave people something to
believe in, you give him something to aspire to. That literally,
(58:44):
that one sentence or two sentences sums up the entire
point of this movie is that Sam's not Steve, and
therefore it can't represent the same thing that Steve represented
for the world in the universe. He's just a guy
doing his best and that's all we can all try
to be is just our best selves and that's what
he's trying to be in this So that they're like, Hey, Sebastian,
(59:07):
you're gonna like, you're gonna give us a one sentence
synopsis of this whole film, go.
Speaker 3 (59:13):
We're not showing them, so we need you to say it.
Speaker 4 (59:15):
Yeah, exactly, we're not show We're not showing them enough,
so let's specifically say it out loud here.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
No, I did love that. It was great.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
That's a good quote of the movie the movie for sure,
for sure. Absolutely, yeah, good call. Uh. And then I
only wrote down one other one and it was more
funny and it's just when Sam says, should have taken
the seerum Bucky's full of language.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
Yep, you also, but those were the moments I was like,
it's so good to me, Mackie cook a little bit,
you know.
Speaker 4 (59:45):
Ye, dude, he's so funny and everything else.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
Yeah, you know, go for it. I love that.
Speaker 4 (59:52):
Yeah, and let him like you said, let him go
and uh. It also implies that like there's others, there's
more super soldier seerum out there that he could have
that could be taken by somebody, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:00:02):
Yeah, I was, I was. I was confused by that
a tiny bit. I don't really remember what happened either, So.
Speaker 4 (01:00:11):
They glossed over it. They didn't say anything else.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
Yeah, it's interesting. Yeah, I don't know. I love that.
Was that that was your only one basically, Okay, I
have a lot because great, I love the we get
the Sam's version of on your Left or I guess
Joaquin's version of on your Left of no Dying copy
(01:00:35):
that you know that he says a couple of times.
I liked that a lot like that also is going
to be used to hurt my feelings later, like when
he's dying or something.
Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
That you're like, you're just waiting for the boohoo's.
Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
Well, they're going to manipulate me at some point. I
just know it. I know it's going to happen. But
I like that. Uh we said the rip one already.
I really liked that one a ton. Oh. I really
liked the the on the tombstone. This is a sad one.
But on the tombstone it said of Fattis's wife, who
(01:01:16):
I don't remember her name, but keep your face to
the sunshine and the shadows will always fall behind you.
I just thought that was like a really lovely little.
Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
That is a beautiful sent word of advice to us.
Speaker 3 (01:01:28):
All in a fight, the last hit is the only
hit that matters. I thought that was fun. That was Bradley,
Isaiah Bradley saying that when they were doing their little
training montage, I kind of wanted a little.
Speaker 4 (01:01:40):
More of a probably wanted more of that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
Yep, that's all right, another woking one. It's a long drive,
so we're gonna need some snacks. And then he's like, one,
I invite you. I loved that. That was fun. Let's
see what else we got. Oh, when when Harrison Ford
is riding the bike and he gives up the peloton
or whatever he's doing, and it's like he's like, if
(01:02:05):
the doctor asked, let him know, I did five. And
she's like, I'll tell the doctor three miles in change
and he's like five. It was just a fun It
was a funny little moment. It made me think, honestly
of shrinking in that moment specifically, Yeah, it felt like that,
let's seem because I was dying. Oh. I loved the
(01:02:35):
when the Black Widow lady was like tall, nice teeth,
great posture and they're talking about Bucky and then Sam
goes he's one hundred and ten years old and she's like,
I can work with that.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
That ament. That was cute.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
That was pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:02:54):
But I didn't write out rite, like write the actual
quote out. But I was intrigued by Stern's little mini
monologue in that post credits moment about the like the
others and needing to protect what are you gonna do
have protect the world from the others when they come
And it's like very classic Marvel Cliffhanger moment where you're like, oh,
(01:03:15):
what are we talking about? Bad guys? Other good guys?
Like that was a that tagged onto the end of
a really really good version of this movie would have
been like, oh, like Mike drop moment. It was a
really like they should have had Stern's cook like that
the rest of the movie, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:03:32):
Yeah, I still know how he can how he can lose,
but also know that that they're coming.
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
Like, we can't. We can't think about it too much. Bugs,
we can'teah.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
O, man, that's fun. Oh and I really liked this
was a serious one that Sam said, I feel like
if I don't I let down everyone who wants a
seat at that table. That pressure weighs on you. It
makes you wonder if you'll ever be enough. I was like, damn,
that's a good line. And maybe how he feels about
having to try and be Captain America as well, like
(01:04:08):
you know, Anthony Mackie thinking that a little bit. Yeah, yeah,
but yeah, those were all the ones I wrote down.
Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
Well let's move on to bugs Boohoo moments the crying game.
I picked three. There might have been more, but I
picked three. I picked when Isaiah Bradley is talking to
Sam from prison after he tried killing the president and says,
I'm gonna die in here.
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
Yeah, that was really like unnecessarily rough.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
I felt like Isaiah Bradley was doing great as the actor. Y. Yeah,
when Betty comes to visit Ross in the prison.
Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
Yeah, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
And when Joaquin is he wanted to be Sam growing up?
Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
So good love that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Yeah, those are the three.
Speaker 4 (01:05:07):
How many more do you have?
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Not you?
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
How many more do you have?
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
I have four? Four more? Four more?
Speaker 4 (01:05:17):
How about how about when either the Bucky scene or
I was going to say when Betty's talking to him
on the phone.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
Both of those are right when he talks to Betty
on the phone. And then the Bucky scene definitely got
me because that's also right after walking is down. Yeah,
and so like they're all that stuff is a.
Speaker 4 (01:05:34):
Critical condition and it's like super emotionally.
Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
Yeah, both of those got me real good.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
A right, nice, nice, nice nice.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
That's all.
Speaker 4 (01:05:41):
That's all I thought.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
There's two more, oh two more, and I'll just tell
you that I want to see just when Harrison Ford
they're like why why are you taking this or why
did you do this? And He's like, because I was dying.
God damn it. I really I thought he really brought
(01:06:02):
it in that moment. I thought he was really really good.
Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
I almost thought that's when he was gonna lose it.
I thought that's when he was gonna like start.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
To heat a couple of times, which I kind of liked,
but I rather would have just not known. And then
I don't know if I brought that up enough during this,
and then maybe you said this, I said, Bradley getting out,
Isaiah Bradley when he gets out.
Speaker 4 (01:06:28):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
I really liked that as well. That was nice.
Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
Yeah, the little the subtleties of that actors like performance
that really come across like that just sort of he really,
like you said, thought he was going to die. And
then that sunshine hits his face again and he gets
his suit back, and it's like, oh.
Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
Well he's also old, and that chick is clearly going
on a date with him at the end, so we're
gonna see more of him yeap, and more of them
together perhaps nice. So that's fun. But yeah, it was
just just seven, just seven for a pretty okay movie.
Speaker 6 (01:06:58):
A movie.
Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
Yeah, that's impressive.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
I did see it twice. I feel like you didn't
know that I saw it twice. That always. Yeah, do
a little bit of movie trivia here, but I kind
of said that one already. The final act of the
film is set in Washington, d C. Noted for its
cherry trees. Uh director Julius Ona had vivid memories of
(01:07:23):
cherry blossoms from having lived near DC in Arlington, Virginia
as a child, and to him, they aligned with the
film's themes of empathy since they were historically gifted from
Japan as a sign of friendship after World War Two.
I thought that was.
Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
Cool and scot parallel with like the tension with Japan
in the movie. Yeah, yeah, yep, that's nice. I like that,
very cool and just.
Speaker 3 (01:07:46):
A beautiful shot. Let's say that again.
Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
Those cherry blossoms, terry blossoms, the sunset while you fight
Red Hulk Man visually.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Glorious, glorious, let's see before Thaddeus Ross. The most recent
president in the mar Cinematic universe was James Ritzen, played
by Dermot mulrooney in Secret Invasion, which just no one
playing about because I was just moving. I didn't see it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
I didn't even see it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
It was worse.
Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
They're never going to bring it up again, apparently, so
don't worry about it. Presumably. Ritzen lost reelection in the
primary challenge or general election to Thaddy's Ross. I just
thought that was kind of fun.
Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
A little behind the scenes story stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
Yeah, uh, we don't get the Marvel studios like open
and front Air in this, which was kind of weird.
That felt strange.
Speaker 4 (01:08:35):
Language they didn't get picked completely, that's weird.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
What they do instead is a it's an homage apparently
to the old political like kind of conspiracy thrillers of
of days gone by, the day of the Jackal Lis Samurai,
point blank and clear and present danger of the four
that were mentioned specifically by the director, and they were
trying to cap the paranoia of trying to uncover a
(01:09:01):
mystery within, you know, a corrupt political and military establishment.
So yeah, I don't know that I really got that
from that, but I was like, oh, I kind of
missed the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
But okay, I very much more missed that now that
you say it, than gave it language so convoluted reason
to not you know.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
Yeah, this was a it's only been since every film
since Doctor Strange though, so it's not I mean, which
is a lot of films obviously, but it hasn't been
like every single film or anything apparently.
Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
So oh interesting I would have if you would have
asked me, I would have said, it's in every single one.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Me too, But I guess not. I don't know, but yeah,
let's see. Anthony Mackie is the third MCU actor to
receive an executive producer credit for the film. Scarlett Johansson
got one for Black Widow, and then Chris Hemsworth for
thor Love and Thunder. Okay, that's kind of fun. Yeah,
I don't know what that gets you. Is that just
(01:09:55):
like you get extra cash or something.
Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
Yeah, I think you just are slightly more involved with
the process than the average actors school, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
Good for him. In the comics, Sidewinder is a blue
eyed Caucasian and this is the reason why gian Carlo
Esposito was given the blue contact lenses during filming. And
they really, they really did like linger on that a
couple of times, and I was like, Oh, that's weird.
Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
What Yeah, gave him at slightly and slightly inhuman sort of. Yeah,
creepiness to him for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
Yeah, it was. It was interesting. Oh, I thought this
was fun. Harrison Ford, who replaces the late William Hurt,
lost the Oscar to Hurt for Kiss of the Spider
Woman in nineteen eighty five, while Ford was nominated in Witness,
which is one of Rob's faves.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Well, right, yeah, I definitely saw it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Yeah, you liked it, and not a lot of it
liked it. Okay, that's yeah. But yeah, they never worked together,
I guess, but I thought that was interesting that he
replaced him and they were directly in common petition, So
that's kind of interesting that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
It's funny.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
In the movie, Red Hulk is just as mindless and
savage as early Hulk, but in the comics, Red Hulk
retains Ross's intelligence right from the very beginning. Like Abomination,
he's stronger than Hulk is originally and is only defeated
because Hulk gets stronger than angrier he gets. And this
is where I mentioned the Red Hulk gets more radioactive
(01:11:26):
the angrier he gets, which is kind of fun. Yeah,
that was interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
Yeah, there's like seven or eight different Hulks that, like
I'll have they come from different like origins and stuff,
and they're not they're obviously not all Bruce Banner, and
it's fascinating. They like showed that, like you said a
little bit with that the sizzle on his like skin,
like there's something a little different about him. But I'm like,
they could have leaned into that more, like you know, I.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
Think so too, but maybe they will later, who knows,
maybe they will.
Speaker 4 (01:11:52):
Yeah, he's not. He hasn't gone anywhere. As we'll talk
about you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:56):
Sidewinder was, which is gian Carlo Esposito was added completely
during reshoots. So if that gives you any reason why
he wasn't utilized, well there you go. That's they wouldn't
have done that. That seems domb Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
I do feel like much.
Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
Well, yeah, and then they could have spent all that
time actually creating sort of like tension and like political espionage,
sort of like stuff with this shadowy figure that we
end up finding out is Tim Blake Nelson and his
his puppet mastering of everything and not like the bait
and switch the poor like bait and switch again. John
(01:12:34):
Carlos is a legend. He's so good. But yeah, that
was unnecessary.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
The song that the leader uses to activate his brainwash
victims is Mister Blue by The Fleetwoods. This foreshadows him
being revealed as Samuel Stearns from The Incredible Hulk. As
Bruce Banner and Sterns secretly communicated with each other in
that movie on the chat feature using the nicknames mister
Green and mister Blue, which I had forgot. But once
(01:13:05):
I read that, I was like, oh, yeah, I can
see them like typing that out, you know, when he's down,
I don't remember where he is.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
I really remembered that, like as a key thing. And
so when they say mister Blue, I was like, like, again,
I already had seen that. It was like Tim Blake
Nelson on the carpet and I'm like on the red carpet, Like, okay,
spoiler alert, he's in this movie too. But it's a
really nice little callback.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
Yeah. I thought that was really neat. So, but that
was all the ones I had, Rob, did you find
any others? There wasn't a ton Obviously there wasn't a ton. No, yeah, okay,
no Nice, Riley, any other?
