Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dead, the sun is shining out the cloud in the sky.
We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside. Some people
a boat on some skis, but we would rather sit
on down and talk some movies. We're the avid Indoorsmen.
(00:20):

love it, olds.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
So come on in and stay.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
We'll do our best to make use my.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
The indoors man.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
What is happening? I'm Rob Lundquist and I'm and we
are the Avid Indoorsmen getting the game?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Oh I like that? Oh wow? Yeah, what's up everybody?
How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Oh? I'm doing good. You know what I'm excited about?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Tell me everything.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
We got football, bro, football. We are recording this just
mere hours before the very first game of the NFL season.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Delicious.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I'm excited, Dude, me too.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
I love it. I'm excited to have sports on that
I care about more.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
O name, I feel like we're in quite a drought, well.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Especially when the Twins are poopy. Yeah, the links are
great and the playoffs are about to start. So we
had that and that's it. That's it. That is it.
That is it.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
And the Minnesota United I am. I am a soccer fan.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Their second in the Western Conference.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Which is very good. Nice.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
So it's not terrible, but very excited for the NFL season.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Very excite. It's going to be great, very excited. I like, yeah,
I don't know, I'm excited. Man, I'm with you. Oh,
gonna be the best. We decided to do a football movie. Yeah, dude,
so fun. I'm convincing.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
No, you're just like, dude, let's just do that movie.
We've talked about it forever.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I was like, I was like, immediate co sign and boom,
I love that movie.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
We're both like, this is our podcast. We will decide
we do it.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
It's not an anniversary, but you know what, it coincides
at the football season. I'm feeling like it's relevant.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Anniversary of our heart. If nothing else, yeah, if nothing else. Rob.
But before we get to all that, I would like
to hear, what's the most recent movie you've seen? Well,
I would love to tell you about it. Oh my god,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Netflix came out with a movie about a series that
I've been reading.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I haven't seen it into it. Oh, I'm so excited.
Tell me everything.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
So this is called the Thursday Murder Clup.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Okay, I feel like you've talked about it on here before.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
I know you've definitely to me. Yeah that's fair. Yeah
cool man.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
But I was so happy with how they made it.
Chris Columbus directed, who's done some amazing stuff. We've done
some episodes on his movies like Home Alone, Missus, Doubt Fire,
The First Couple, Harry Potter movies, and Yeah, so I've
read all the Thursday Murder Club books by Richard Osmond.
I am excited because he has a new book coming
(03:24):
out at the end of.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
This month, sick month for him. It really is, it
really is.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
But dude, I loved the casting. Everyone was perfect. Helen Marry,
that's so good, Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, They're perfectly cast.
And there's kind of the main character in the books.
Her name is Joyce in the books, but her it's
an actress named Celia Imriy and it sounds like she's
(03:51):
been in a ton of things, but it's more maybe
British stuff that I have not seen. Her name is Celia,
Celia Imri and she was one wonderful There's some other
really recognizable actors in there as well. They're great. I
loved how they stuck to the book really well.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, that's fun because that's not always on the Ghosts,
you know.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yeah, well, and it's you know, it's just a fun
kind of murder mystery. One of the plot lines they
changed would make it a little tougher if they are
going to keep making these into films sure, which I
really really hope they do, because they did a great
job on this one. I'm hoping that people watch it.
(04:34):
It's currently in the top ten on Netflix, so I'm
hoping that stays for a while so that they're like,
how to make another one of these.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
It's exciting, dude. You know, I've been circling it. I've
been I have my eye because I know you liked it.
Now that I know you like this adaptation, I'm in.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
It was really really well done, and honestly, out of
the four books that they have, I thought this was
the weakest plot line.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
So I'm hoping that.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
We can keep getting them and we get to be
with these characters and they just keep making them.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah, totally. That's really cool, well, very fun, and I
also liked they made it a movie rather than necessarily
a series. I mean, series are cool, but sometimes those
it's always hard between the two because it's like sometimes
the series can feel a little like drawn out. Sometimes
totally a movie can feel a little rushed.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
So yeah, I think this was the right play. They
did a very good job with it.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
I was.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I was very happy with it.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Well, very cool. I'm certainly looking forward to watching that
at some point. You can do that.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
It's on Netflix. What was the last movie you watched?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
So last one I watched was one you've talked about already,
but I went and saw nobody too.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Did you enjoy it?
Speaker 3 (05:46):
I loved it a lot. I was like it was
funny though a couple of times I was like, well, yeah,
I bet they had a blast watching this together.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
It was so much fun, dude.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
It is very silly and very fun. And yeah, I
liked it a lot. Very violent as well. So it
didn't one of us just like it's.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
A fun little rob you love it.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
My gosh, we're the best, but yeah, it is hyper violent,
so no that going in it was like even zanier
this time. If you can believe that U. Yeah, I
really like that was fun. I like it. They went
a different way than I thought they were going with uh,
(06:28):
with Connie's character Connie.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Is it me Smith Nielsen Nielsen?
Speaker 3 (06:35):
But yeah, just slightly different than I thought they were
going with her. But it was still really fun.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I liked it. Yeah, what did I think?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Was just so goofy in that movie?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Oh? They we never see Christopher Lloyd's eyes, Like, I
wonder what's going on if there's something with I know.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
That that's pretty interesting, pretty old, but like its weird
some like weird cataracts or something. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
He was aviators the entire movie.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
That is really I mean, it really fits with his
character obviously, But yeah, that isn't good call. Yeah, I
don't think I even clocked that. But now that you
say that interesting. But man, man, he's got to be old, right,
I feel like, yeah, he's.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Been an old man our whole lives ever since I've
seen him. You must have been.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I'm sure we talked about this. Well maybe not because
we've screwed up so bad on the back of the future,
But how old was he when he did those movies?
You think? I don't know, he must have only been
like mid thirties.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Man, he had to be older than mid thirties, had too,
has ninety now let me just look it up because
that was forty years ago.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
I guess he could could have been. Yeah, you're right,
he's probably forty five or something. I'm doing this to you.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Nineteen thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
He was born. I'm not good at stuff. I'm not either,
So he's eighty eight. That works. I'm gonna cut that
from the podcast. It's not right. What heir? Did you say?
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Thirty eight?
Speaker 3 (08:09):
So yeah, eighty seven hour C seven. I was counting
next year for anyone listening, I'm I might cut it.
I'm gonna bleep it and then they'll be like, did
you get right? Did you get it wrong? I don't know,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
So yeah, so forty years ago, so yeah, he was
forty seven. He was mid forties.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Man, he was older and older, yeah than this, you know,
And I was like, that old.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
He looks so old.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Bro. The white hair though, you know, the white hair
doesn't know.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, same with Steve Martin. He went white so fast.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Sure you know, good call anyhow, nobody too. I really
liked nobody do that to everyone we're having a nice time.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
We're having fun.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
How about streaming, You've been streaming O day.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I've been streaming so many things. One that I binge
real fast was the new Owen Wilson series on Apple
called Stick.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Oh. I haven't even heard anything about this.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah, nobody's really talking about it. Luke talked about it,
but he's a big golf guy. So it's it's about
a golf phenom who has some personal tragedy and ends
up not playing anymore than he sees a young talented
golfer and wants to be his mentor. Oh fun, kind
of has a ted Lasso feel. I'm certainly not going
(09:33):
to say it's as good as ted Lasso, because ted
Lasso is incredible.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Maybe what they were trying to do, yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
They're trying you know, it's funny. They're trying to pull
out some heart strings. I think they do that pretty well.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
I didn't love the younger folks that are in it,
like the main golfer and then some other people around that.
But yeah, Owen Well Wilson, his ex is Judy Greer there,
she's great. I love the chemistry between Owen Wilson and
Mark Marin that's really fun. And then we get then
(10:13):
we get Timothy Oliphant, who is.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Awesome, just looking handsome as.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Ever, and he really is.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
He's a good looking man, handsome. But yeah, they were.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Not super long episodes. Yeah, it wasn't the last thing
I watched. This was at the very beginning of my
China trip. But I finished. I finished it so fast, perfect.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Let's good.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
So but yeah, it's it's definitely worth checking out. If
that sounds interesting to you, you'll probably like it.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Did you say Apple TV?
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Is that what that is on Apple TV?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Okay? Cool? Cool? Very cool man?
Speaker 2 (10:47):
What have you been streaming?
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Uh? So, the last like two days I streamed all
of the Buffalo Bill's Hard Knock season, the couple of
nights which I kind of forgot was there, and I
was like, yeah, football, I'm ready. I'm ready to be
like I.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Kind of always forget about HBO Max for some reason.
I don't know what my deal is.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
But that wasn't that funny?
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Yeah, dude, that was the Buffalo Bills season.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Pretty fun. Actually, they had some interesting, uh interesting storylines
that they did. They had ah, what is his first name?
His last name is white and he's the cornerback Trey
Oh Tradarious. Yes, I can't remember exactly what his first
name is, but he's really good. He was he was
(11:35):
like a pro bowler I think for a couple of years,
but he's sort of at the end of his career
and he went somewhere else last year and now it
is back. I think he went to the Ravens or something.
But that was just a fun That was a fun reunion,
you know, at the beginning of camp with all the
people that he knew and stuff. It is tradeavious by
the ways, Okay, thank you. But and then they have
(11:57):
a rookie cornerback that I don't remember the dude's name,
but he so like they're in tandem and that's always
fun to be like these dudes are only seven years apart.
But also it's like a chasm, you know, and it's experience,
you know, which is kind of fun. And it really
like featured like the people's kids and stuff. I don't
(12:18):
know if more than past seasons, but it was just
really fun to see and the people interacting. They seem
like they have a great organization over there. They seem
like their friends are crazy. I think we all knew that,
but they're so supportive, they're so fun, like, you know,
I don't know, I really liked it and it always
gets me in the mood for like it's fall, like
let's put some football, let's watch some stuff, let's hang out,
(12:40):
you know.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
So do they get into the Josh Allen Hailey Steinfeld
relationship at all.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
You know, not a ton And it felt pretty like
pointedly absent to me, which I get he probably was like, well,
we're not doing that, or she was you know, or whoever, right,
But they definitely talk about it at the beginning of
the show and then they kind of just go away
from it other than you know, like random mentions of
(13:08):
things that happened, you know, throughout. But she never makes
an appearance appearance other than like some pictures and stuff.
I think maybe one quick interview snippet, not even with
them from a red carpet or something. So sure, so
she was not super active, no, which is kind of
a bummer. And I also one hundred percent get it right,
(13:28):
like it's understandable. So but yeah, it was just really fun.
They had some really great stuff on there. It was
a good time fun. I don't know if I'm a
Bulls or a Bill's fan necessarily now, but for like
especially the down the you know, depth chart guys. For sure.
(13:48):
Hopefully yeah, hopefully they do make it. That'd be fun.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Well, don't tell our good friend Adam Chance up because
the Dolphins are in his division and he would be
very upset with you.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
That's partly why I said I don't really think I
am I need that possible deniability. You know, although we
have talked about it, I think Josh Allen is pretty
like fun to root for.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Dude, that guy is such a monster.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Yea, and he just seems like a nice dude, like.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Nice guy, A really funny, great interview.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
I went to.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
It was the first time the Bills came to the
Vikings with Josh Allen. I was like, who is this kid?
He like in that game, leapt over something, He's like
he had a bunch of rushing yards, rushing touch just
like this guy is good.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah, it's pretty wild.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
I needed to know what was gonna happen. He came
out of Wyoming, so you're like, oh, we're just gonna
wipe the floor with these guys. He looked so good right.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Out of the gate, and he's a farmer's kid, which
is much like the person we're going to talk about,
Charlotte I love. But yeah, go check out hard Docks
right now if you want otherwise, I think we should
do some plugs.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
What do you think I think we should as well?
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Nice us can business as always on the Twitter machine,

Noel Flores. You guys are wonderful. Thank you for me, Patrens.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
I always get scared when I say something after the
first one, and then I'm like, dang it now time
no going to do it. You don't have to. Man,
you're good.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
You didn't and you won't.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
You shan't.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Another Another perk we like to give our patrons is
an extent version of every episode that we put out.
We'll put out a top five draft that pertains to
the movie. And for this one we had a few
different things we could have done. We went with top
five favorite movie bar fight.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Yes, and also I don't often have like, oh, this
has got to be number one. There is one that.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
A clear one.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
I like that, and I'm scared because that means I
have to beat you and it just never happens. Never
happens in the game.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Yeah, there's you in this where it's like bar fight.
It's kind of a diner fight. It's kind of a
night So I think we just go loose with it. No,
I want to be extremely strict. I want it to
be a bar.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, let's do that, okay.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Because that's fun. It's fun to be strict.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
I find that to be true. You got to be
cruel to be kind. Yeah. The lyric, right, that is
a lyric, not really the same thing. But you know
it's okay, guys, You guys are getting what you paid
for it.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
I don't get your time.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
You're having a good time, well, Barry fond. We look
forward to that. Rob. It's just you and I today. Whoa,
We're gonna have so much fun. Would you like to
get a started with a rough SYNOPSI.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, we are talking about the movie Necessary Roughness.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
You guys.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
I don't think said that.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
I say that. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Necessary Roughness came the year nineteen ninety one. The plot
synopsis of this movie is tasked with overhauling a university
football team that was dismantled for breaking collegiate rules. Coaches
Wally Riggendorf and Ed Gennaro pick unusual new players like
(17:51):
junior professor Andre Krim and thirty something quarterback Paul Blake
as Paul Courtz Professor Suzanne Carter. The team struggles until
the arrival of a female place kicker, who bolsters the
squad as it gets ready to challenge it's big rival.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah, love it, love it.
Let's go to rotten tomatoes. Do we should skip this?
Do we need to do that? Well, we have to
be honest with the people. Rop yeah, we must. Critics
have it at a rock solid thirty five percent. Nowhere
our worst very dumb and they smell bad. What is
(18:31):
our worst? Do we keep a rolling tally of that?
I don't know. We don't write it up audio.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
We do have wonderful folks that listen. That might be
will well.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
That's true. If someone could go through and find out
what the lowest one we have the lewist, I would
be interested lowest and highest, and then we can just
keep a rolling you know, rolling number from there.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Love it, but yeah, that would be fun.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
That would be good to know. Also, you know, if
you don't I get it, I'm not gonna I'm not
gonna do it, so certainly not. So I don't blame
you audience members. Rob had this and arousing forty seven percent.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
That is what I find most disheartening.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
That's really that's low. I it doesn't make any sense
to me, especially being like with how much you and
I love this movie. I guess I just thought it
was revered.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
I don't know how you can be like this is
just straight up a bad movie, like I would be
interested in hearing, Yeah, the reasons why it's a bad movie.
That bad of a movie at.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Worst, It's like whatever I feel like right, I mean,
like a silly sports movie. Whatever isn't that's what all
these people think. But let's hear what we think. It's
time for our hot hot take.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Oh oh, that's a hot take. That's a hot take.
Oh oh, he threw it so hard that now it's
a fire stairs out.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Gee nice, nice, I like it. I like that a lot.
I'll go first. I love this movie. I'm sure people
know because we've talked about it sort of unwarranted several times, unprompted.
But yeah, I think this movie is super fun. I
watched it a ton as a kid for whatever reason.
Just a classic.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
You know.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
The thing I like about this movie the most, which
doesn't happen in a ton of sports movies. They're not
very good, which I think is pretty fun. They end
up only winning the one game right basically the entire season. Spoiler.
Oh sorry, you should have watched it by now if
this is on you. Yeah, reps, like I've never seen it,
(20:45):
but you know, like that doesn't usually happen. Usually it's
like a team that you know, overcomes the odds and
then it's amazing the right time. So I thought that
was really fun. There's like a bunch of fun tropes
that happened in this the old guy, the you know,
the dude who can't catch the you know, all the things,
people reclaiming glory. But overall, I just think it's a
really fun movie about some folks doing something they love
(21:10):
just because they love it, not because there's you know,
maybe a career in it for him or anything like that.
It's just like some for the love of the game
stuff and it's really fun. I love it, and it's
it's a silly good time. I don't really know what
else I have to say other than I guess my
hot tag is are we certain Manu didn't kill Flat
(21:33):
Top at the end there? Because we never see him again.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
And that's a good point.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
That face mask flies and did you see the blood
on the rewatch? I forgot. They must have had him
have blood capsules or something and he like spews blood from.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Yeah this is like pre cgi, so yeah, right.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
But his like face mask comes undone like that's it's
pretty wild that we never see him again, So.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
He may have died on the field that day.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
I had to kill him. You know, he told them
don't don't lay hands on his kicker, So I guess that's.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
It angered him.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
He's a murderer.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
He's a murderer. I like that a lot that I
would say that's the best Dug got, Bud, how about you?
I have also loved this movie ever since it came out.
I also watched it all of the times, so so
many times. Uh. It's directed by Stan Dragotti, who also
directed Mister Mom and this was his last film. Really
(22:32):
went out on top.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
I think.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
It was written by a couple guys named Rick Natkin
and David Fuller. This was by far the biggest thing
they ever wrote, and I thought they did a pretty
good job. It was a fun plot. They created some
entertaining characters. There were some really funny lines in this.
I thought they did a really good job. It was
very fun seeing these actors. This is where my love
(22:58):
of Sinbad started. Then named my teddy bear hamster after him,
Little Sindbad.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
I loved him so much.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
It was the best hamster.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
I love Sinbad too.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
He was just the best man.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Right when the music started up, I didn't remember how
great the score was. Same like I was a surprisingly
great score. I looked up who did it. It's by
Bill CONTI who has won an Academy Award for the
right stuff. But he also, dude, he did the Rocky series,
(23:37):
no kidding. Yeah, so they went and got like a
major majorser for this, no doubt. And it was awesome.
Like I loved the theme, those big those big moments
were It added so much to it. One of the
best parts of the movie, honestly. And I love this movie.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Yeah, that's really great.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Yeah, this movie helped form my love of football. It
was very fun to watch this right before the NFL
season starts. I had so much fun rewatching. I feel
like it held up really well.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Dude, you too, Yeah, I'm with you. I think it
holds up remarkably well.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
It really does. Man, Like they were pretty like progressive
and we're not. Yeah, dude, I'm just surprised by that
because a lot of movies that came out in nineteen
ninety one, you can't say that.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Would not have especially there. It's a comedy movie. They
just would have expected him to go for more low
hanging fruit. I mean, it really doesn't.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
So I love this movie. My hot take, Oh tell me,
I need it. I think this is where the Philly
Special was invented. I think this is where they got
that idea.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Wow, you think so?
Speaker 2 (24:50):
I think so. I think who would that have been?
What coach is that? Doug Peterson? I think he was
a big necessary rifle from this, I think so. I
think he saw how well Paul Blake was able to
make it work. I thought, you know what I got,
I got Nick Foles.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
That to be true.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Wouldn't that be fun?
Speaker 3 (25:12):
That would be really fun. But I do think it
probably predates this if I had to, probably, But I
love it. I love that take a lot. But now
he might have been reminded of it at like a
team movie night or something. Now that is something we're talking. Yes,
we're talking. That's awesome. Let's give him the bacula. Yeah, dude,
(25:36):
I wish they called it the bacula.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
That would be great.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
I love that. That's a hot take.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Well, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Let's go talk about our favorite acting performance.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Shall we name the dude the dude?
Speaker 4 (25:53):
I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
know that? Or his dude or duder or you know,
eldudo reno. If you're not into the whole brevity thing,
would you like to go first.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
In this one?
Speaker 2 (26:07):
I can because you just brought up his name Scott
Bout It's Scott Bacula nailed it as Paul Blake.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
I agree, dude. I was such a Quantum leap fan.
I loved quantum leaking, so I loved me too, some Bacula,
But yeah, I thought it was fun.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
We had an older guy coming back to college getting
to live the glory days he never got to experience.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Really great.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Then he goes and gets in a romantic relationship with
the professor, who I found so attractive when I was
I have.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Such a crush on her. For between this and like parented, yeahs.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
She definitely has Yeah, good for her. I was just like,
all right, this is great. He's trying to be a
leader to these young guys all the while having just
an absent Luke Cannon for an arm. He could throw.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
That ball so a quarter mile probably.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Did you see what he did to Charlie Bank? Nope,
not Charlie Banks. It was Banks.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
It was Charlie Banks.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Was it cool? Did you see what he did? He
made him just like he almost killed him.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
That's hard, just like Manu did. It is Charlie Banks.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Charlie Banks. Okay, there we go he upended him.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
With Really, he was just he was a slight, a
wirtle guy. He was just a wirtle guy. But I
agree that's who I picked as well. Wow, and I
just for all the reasons she said, I think he
plays like he also plays the sore. Although damn it,
he's thirty four in this and they treat him like
(27:50):
he's a thousand.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
But dude thirty four with college kids.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Absolutely, I mean that's old for sure. It is. Well,
didn't they have like a twenty nine year old I
was just gonna say that pretty recently.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Well, they had that winky quarterback. He was pretty old.
He was like a Heisman Trophy winner. I don't know
if he was twenty nine, but he was old. Maybe
he was twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
I'm thinking of a different guy who was like he
was a starter, but he wasn't like a and I
think he was a defender. But he had gone and
like surfed in the army or something, and then you know,
something had happened, and then he came back and was
like I think I want to try this again, you know,
or whatever, which is crazy. But they made a big
bey all of that. As all I'm saying sure, So, yeah,
(28:39):
thirty four is pretty old. Yeah, but he looked like
he was a thousand. You know when he was he was.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Living hard man, he was smoking, he was he was
living hard. He was on the farm. I mean he
was a working man.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
He's a working boy, working boy. That's a working man's butte.
That's a blue collar. But what is that from? That's
from something that It really made me made me laugh Anyway.
I thought he was great in this. I loved Quantum
Lee back in the day, so it was just fun
to see him in this. And then his role in
Chuck was so fun back in the day. Oh yeah,
(29:15):
because he's Chuck's dad, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was
really really fun. But yeah, I think he's really wonderful
in this. And he plays the football stuff well, like
he looks like he can actually play and throw, which
is fun. But he also does the like the more
sentimental parts of it really well too. Ye like when
he writes that you know that letter and he doesn't
(29:36):
really want her to read it, but you know, he's
got some stuff going on in that dome too, which
is cool. So yeah, I really liked him, was fun,
love it.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Well, let's talk about we had so many great supporting characters.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
In this A million a million, and so.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
I think we should pick the Tucci AWATCHI, why don't
you go first on this one?
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Sure, but I get to pick the pair of them.
I would like to take Robert that note that's not
going the way you think it's going. Robert Loja and
Hector Alisondo, that's great, the coaches, the pair of the
so bad. They're wonderful, They're they're super believable as like
old buddies. They're hilarious. I think they had some of
(30:23):
the best lines in the entire movie between the two
of them, and they both just like have this gravitas
that you think their authority figures like the second you
see them. You know. I just really love them a
lot and have loved them and a ton of other things,
both of them individually.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
But yeah, man, by far the most accomplished actors out
of everyone there.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Yeah for sure, for sure.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Yeah, they were so good.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
There's really only one. I think they can even kind
of battle with them. But but yeah, I picked both
of them. Why don't you go and say who you.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Know to I would have agreed with you, and said
Robert Logi and Hector Elison. Sure, sure, who'd you have
back in the day, Sindbad?
Speaker 3 (31:08):
I mean, I'm with you. He was sin bed so.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Much, dude, I said pot thousand times.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
I love him. He's the coolest guy in this I
also love that he is cool and athletic and also
very smart. Smart don't always get.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
He loves science and he loves to part.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
Especially like there's a couple of smart like black dudes
in this movie. And that wasn't always the case in
nineteen ninety you know what I mean right right that
it was the case either. But yeah, man, I'm with
you on percent.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Yep, he was, he was it back then. I agree
with you. Probably the coach is now very high up there.
Just as a small aside, is Rob Schneider is Je Pieterman.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Every time in this movie.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
He kills it every single time.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
He's on perfect And what a fun part to record
because he probably had to be there for like forty
minutes or something.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Seriously, probably only a couple of days, Like he's only
in that boot.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
It's so fun. Except do you think it? Because I
tried to go back and listen, I couldn't quite tell.
Do you think he's also the announcer of the the
Cowboy radio thing, because I think he was, but I
couldn't he might have been. Yeah his voice just enough
to try and hide it, you know.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Yeah, which seemed like a weird move, like he's not
he's not going to be doing it. Well, maybe he's
doing the football games and the I mean it's probably not.
There's probably not that much going on down there.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Probably no money, and he's probably doing that.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
For free or credits. He's just a fan.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Yeah, yeah, right, But I just thought that was funny.
I'm with you though. He was super funny, and there's
a few things that he says in this that I
have said since then.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Yeah, I know, percent, Yeah, I'm with you, dude for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
When some of your runner ups, well we already kind
of talked about her, but Harley Jane Kozak, she just
great in this. I think she's really fun. I love
that she is like a teacher but also likes football
and things. He's interesting, you know what I mean. Like
it's no one is super one dimensional in this, which
(33:24):
is kind of fun, or at least like no one
gets put into one lane, you know, kind of are
just like, yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
I liked that they had the backstory of you know
that she was the cheerleader on the rival high school team.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
It was such a cute idea. I love that.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
And then she like was obsessed with him after.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
That and just his name right away. Yeah, that's really fun.
I like that for sure. Larry Miller is great in this. Dude,
so good.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
He is wonderful, horrible.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Oh he's just the biggest dick ever in the.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
However, just the perfect dean. I feel like, yes, I
feel like Jeremy Piven went and watched some Larry Miller.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Yes, one hundred percent agree. Like he's like, oh, I
just copy this guy. Great, she just did it. What
am I doing? So unlikable but really great at being unlikable.
He's so good. I love that Jason Bateman is in
this for a little he doesn't get to do fun.
Was that fun to see him? Also fun to see
(34:31):
him as a baby and then be like he'd already
been professionally acting for like fifteen years at that time, right,
you know whatever? It was Yeah, pretty wild.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
He was really fun, dude. I was obsessed with Kathy
Ireland after this.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Wow, me too.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
She was on I had a dude, and she I
felt like she was in every Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue
for like ten years right around percent like love.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Her she had because it's been a lot. I don't
know if I said this, it's been a long time
since I've seen this, you know now on this rewatch
she had a little bit more of a part than
I actually remember it. And I thought that was good too, Like,
you know, she was cool.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
I liked her and her and another character that I
loved and you talk about every all the time by
man Umana. There their chemistry, it was so much fun
or you know, they're fun. What they have going on
is just a good time. His name is Peter Navy
TUIs Sisopo. Yeah, and he was lovely.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
He's wonderful dude. He's so friendly, just like a gentle giant.
Gentle giant. I loved him so much. And it's so funny.
I apparently like Headcannon that they did one hundred percent
get together in this movie. It's like, well they like
there's some like allusions to it.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
But not really, no, not until the kiss at the
very end.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
Yeah. But I was like on the cheek as a
as a fat man myself. I wanted that to happen
for him. You know, we all did happened. I just
want to believe.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, he was just such a nice guy, such a gentleman, just.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
A lovely human. Yeah, he's great, just a good dude.
He's great. And I think it was interesting that he
was like, he'll never touch you or whatever when he's
just been getting his ass handed to him.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Though I know it's like, we're gonna just wait for
the last play.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Could we do it earlier? I don't know, maybe.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Maybe we could stry blocking in the first three quarters.
I was just gonna say. There were two actors in
this who were then in one of my other favorite
nineties football movies that we haven't talked about before the Program.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Oh yeah, which I haven't seen.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Dude, if you would have seen it when you were
a kid, you would have loved it. But Dwayne Davis's
Featherstone and Andrew brinni Arski as Wyatt bow Read, those
two actors were also very big roles in the program,
and in the program, Featherstone is like a hard like
(37:09):
middle linebacker, just like mean and tough. Yeah yeah, yeah,
So it was fun and I kind of forgot that
that Wyatt Bowdrey Well Andrew Brinnie Arsky is the actor's name.
I forgot he was in Necessary Roughness.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
He's a big dude, Dude.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
That was one big storyline in the program is that
he needs to like get really big and so.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Some likesteroids or something. So the program is like a
prequel to this basically like all the things they were
doing in the.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Pretty much pretty much dude, Yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Yeah, it's not.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
A college college.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
It is college, Okay.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
James conn is the coach from a river runs through it,
not Brad Pitt, but the other guy.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Okay, he is the he's the main quarterback. And yeah,
do you think I would like it now?
Speaker 2 (38:11):
I'm not sure. It's been many years since I've seen it,
but dude, that there were a couple of scenes in
that would just get me like, yes, just let's go.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Yeah, I'm surprised I never saw that. That's wild.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Yeah, I mean it's it's not a comedy, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
I mean, yeah, it's more of a drama.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Than Omar Epps Omars Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yeah, anyway, well, very cool.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
A lot of good characters in this.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
So many any others that you feel like I feel.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
That's all I needed to say.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Too cool.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Well, then why don't we move to our favorite scene
and let's choose the dingass sodas is quite simple, really, dingus, Dingus.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
I could talk about my dingas all night long. Uh,
you first think I don't know where we're at.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Yeah, this one. I mean it's hard not to just
pick the big game. Yeah, yeah, I feel like there's
so many things that happen. You have Gennaro has had
his heart attack, Coach rig has to take over. He's
wearing the suit. We don't like that. He then has
a big freak out moment he'd taking a suit off,
(39:25):
which is so much fun. They're getting their butts beat
by flat Top. They forget the how to block. Then
we get Gennaro coming back, which is wonderful. They start
playing better.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Indigestion indigestion, Yeah, he just had some gas.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Featherstone finally catches the ball.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
We love that that.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
They run over the Dean, which is so much fun.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
There was a moment where I was like, did Varsity
Blues rip off? Like throwing the football at them? You know,
it's like, is that what's going to happen? I was like, oh,
kind of but no, not.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Quite okay, cool, Yeah, dude, they do the Philly special.
They go for the win. We see the images of
the old dummy wearing the same number as Charlie Banks film.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
That's what makes this from a movie into a.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Film, right. It's beautiful poetry. And then we get all
this slow motion celebrating and it was with that amazing score.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
I was just gonna say, with that dope score underneath,
it's really good. Yeah, dude, really great. I'm down with
picking that for sure. That's fun.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
I feel like I feel like I had to say
that one. What's was that yours?
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Or did you have one that was? I think that
was the one. So I wrote three down that I
felt pretty strongly about. The bar fight is one. It
led to us talking about bar fights. Of course agreed.
I wrote that, well, I also love again, right, kind
of sticking with the theme of the movie. They're not
good at it not they do, you know what I mean? Yeah,
(40:59):
when he like and he's just like, ah, so good.
I love that. But that whole scene is really fun.
And then the sort of like after that where they're like,
well listen, coach, if we get in trouble. They also
get in Trouble or to the Dean, you know, like
all that stuff. I thought that was really fun. And
then I always loved the sort of Longest Yard homage.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Were the three I wrote down.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Bro, Oh, that's so great. We have the exact same three.
That's wonderful. The Texas State Penitentiary team comes in. Oh,
it's just all NFL stars. We got like butt Kiss
Jerry Rice. I mean I think I listed him somewhere.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Dander Holyfield, Yeah, that's right, which I thought is hilarious
because he ends up swallowing a finger and later on
his ear gets maybe that swallowed, but he became the victim.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
Yeah. I just love that scene. They're just getting their
butts whooped and it's really fun. And those nfls that
was really cool.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
So much fun.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
Yeah, at the time, I think I only knew Jerry
Rice Irving.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
No, IV was Michael Irving in there?
Speaker 3 (42:13):
No?
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Maybe maybe maybe not, because I think he was in
the Longest Yard.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
That's and see, I always get those conflated, like, yeah,
there were those scenes or whatever, and.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Dick but Kiss was kind of almost an actor back
then too, so I knew of him, but I certainly
didn't know him as as a football player, because he
was kind of.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Two tolls in that scene are read I might have
wroughte it, Earl Campbell. It was really fun. It was
I just liked that scene. It was silly, it's hilarious.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
And then you see the Dean just laughing his ass on,
just having a great time.
Speaker 3 (42:49):
He loves.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
I love that they only had one play and they
just completely destroy him. And then they get the shotguns.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Immediately they're like, all right, cool, let's it out of here, guys,
we're going back. I have a wonderful and they get
like that. But guess is so eloquent. Yeah, beforehand, it's
so great. Yeah, I love it. I love it, and
they're one of my favorite lines from this movie is
in that scene. But I'll say that for the foorst part.
But how are we good on scenes? Should we go
(43:18):
to that next part? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (43:20):
I think we should. Then we The Dingus is just
the big game.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Hell yeah, the big game, baby, the big game.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Well, why don't we talk about that quote you want
to talk about? And let's go to show me the.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
Money, show me the money? Show do you want to
go thirst?
Speaker 2 (43:39):
No, start it off.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
I'm trying to find where is that quote. It's when
Sindbada is talking. Yes, God, where is it? Oh? Listen, guys,
I just want you to know something. I believe you're
all in I believe you're all innocent. I really mean that.
I feel a lot of love out here today, and
they just get there. I love it. I love that
line much. It was really really cracking me up. Yep.
(44:06):
I don't think we ever said the nerdy quarterback guy
who ends up holding the clipboard house pop key. Yeah,
when when he's running after the RAF and just saying,
pull the whistle whistle cracks me up.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
There gets when he gets a bench or whatever because
he threw the ball instead of ran it, pull the
whistle whistle.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, it's so good. I love that so much. Uh yeah,
let's see they have the the man goes in motion.
The receiver on the other team, the Armadilla's are on defense.
The whole defense goes with him. Basically, they're all like,
that's my man, that's my man. He's and Schneider on
the voiceover going Armadillos are showing that receiver a lot
(44:53):
of respect right now. It gets me every single time.
I love that so much. A lot of respec back
speaking of Schneider fumble, fumble, ayah, fumble. We still say those.
We say I'm pretty regularly all the time.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
Fumble ruskisky uh.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
And then the last one I'll say right now, but
I have plenty more is big exact by Man of.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
The Slender, Yes, Minument of the Slender so much. Yeah,
you've said that quite a few times.
Speaker 3 (45:27):
I really have. I love it a lot. I love
it a lot. But why don't you say if you.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Pal, I'll say a few.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Hurts when they poking the chests like that. I love that.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
He's like about to green and he's like, hey, hey, hey,
you're making fun of me. When I was telling Yeah,
when I was telling my dad that we.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Were doing this movie, the first.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
One he said is maybe now isn't the best time
to make sure everyone is played.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
It's a great lie that. That was good.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
One that I don't didn't remember so much back then,
but it made me actually laugh out loud. When they're
in the tryouts and Featherstone is just he cannot come
down with the ball, and Gennaro is like, keep your
eyes on the ball, so on, and then you just say, wow,
you had to keep your hands on the ball.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
Really enjoyed that, really good.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
Yeah, shut up or you were anger me from Manu Manu.
When we first meet the Dean and he is meeting Gennaro's,
he's like, he's funny Carver. I like jokes and just
how he says it. It's just the way he does it,
(46:57):
you know, just like, oh, this guy sucks.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
It's like it sounds like you don't want us to
have a team. He's like correct, and it's just like
I know, it's reaction to it.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Yeah, most of his they're like great on paper, but
it's how he delivers them.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
His response is so great. Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 2 (47:16):
And there was when he catches them. When he catches
Suzanne and Paul Blake making out, she's like, we're consenting adults,
and he says, so we're Bonnie and Clyde.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
It's pretty great.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
So dumb and I enjoyed it.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
That's great.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
Why don't you say some more.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
One we've said a bunch follow me? Mister Blake is
pretty great. Oh, dude, definitely said that in high school.
Absolutely blocked as well as he did for most of
that game. So I guess. Also when Andrea comes in
and he's like Andre does not eat brom meat because
(48:00):
is a vegetarian. Whatever you want Andre, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
because he just throws that. He knocks the whole sledover
and that was so fun. This goes crazy. Also, Simbad's
a big dude. He's a big man. He's a big dude. Yeah,
he played pretty good football. I would bet he did.
He almost had to have, right, Like, I bet he
(48:23):
was fun in a lot. Seems like a cool guy.
I feel like we can, we should need him someday.
I feel like we can. That could happen.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
I know I was following him all around the country
at different theaters.
Speaker 3 (48:35):
I know that someday, someday this will happen. At one point,
the one coach goes to his knee because everything's going
so poorly. Gennaro goes, well, he get up. People are
watching not a lot, but they're watching a lot. Yeah,
you know that.
Speaker 2 (48:52):
He was like, if this was an astra ser if
I'd bury myself in a grave or something, myself a graver.
Speaker 3 (48:58):
Yeah, really great. Welcome to foot ball. Hey you the
nutter Butter's there, which is pretty fun. As they say,
everyone says it. I've said it at least once that
we know mahoma R. What are you talking about? Oh,
let's see. Oh and I loved the you go out there,
(49:22):
you tear their bets off and down their next let
us pray, Yes, but let us pray. And it's like
ten minutes before that probably it's so good, so funny.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
That is where I also cut it off. Just that
last nice, that's a perfect the rest of it.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
Pray, don't get me wrong. Yeah, that like down their necks,
let us pray, let us pray, perfect, really really really great.
I wrote down the mister Blake, he'll never touch you.
I don't know why we didn't do this earlier. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Another one that coach Ran did was I don't want
to put any undue pressure on you guys. But coach
Gennaro's last words were win or I'll die or all.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
That. It's pretty great. Oh okay, just that then my god. Uh.
I had one other one that was fun. Oh well,
at least we have home field advantage. And then he's
like the Alamo was the home field. Yeah, yeah, that
was really fun.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
One that I feel like the replacements. Yeah, and they
didn't completely steal, but same sentiment. Oh yeah, is Paul
Blake going you're hurt, you're tired, you're bleeding. I'm gonna
make you promise we get into that end zone, you're
not going to feel any pain.
Speaker 3 (50:46):
Yeah, I did love that, But yes, I agree. It
feels pretty similar on the news when was replacements. I
know we just did it.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
But like two thousand, I think so quite a bit later.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
So yeahs. I also loved the Dean at one point
goes eternal vigilance is the price of integrity, coach to
narrow and while he just goes, what an asshole? Yeah,
I don't know. It was just great. Not a great
line on paper again, like you said, but made me laugh.
(51:23):
I think that was all the ones I wrote down. Yeah,
man did as well. Nice, Well let's move on less.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Who mutes bohomments? I thought one and I think, uh
it was mister Blake, they'll never touch you up until.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
The winning of the game.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
I thought it was kind of all.
Speaker 3 (51:45):
One that definitely was was one for sure. There was
one more. There's two total.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
I mean, is it like the Suzanne and Paul Blake
stuff we did have to do with the relation ship stuff?
Speaker 3 (52:01):
Kind of Uh, it's when he says when he's talking
about he never lost a game in high school, and
he talks about how good that felt, and he goes,
I want to give these guys that feeling. Even Yeah,
I really see that. That got me. I liked that. Yeah,
that was good.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
But then they thought it was not a great line.
After that it was like, I, yeah, I was like,
I don't want him to die.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
I want him to win. Whatever. Oh they they they
die for you or something. I want to die. I
want him to win. But as part of the cheering
over the last bit, because you're right, that did get me,
was a hype here for Charlie Banks. So yeah, let's go, Charlie,
(52:44):
let's go. Baby. Got to hope your kids want to
play sports. I really want to watch sports and fun
and be affiliated with someone and not just be a
weirdo in the stance. You know. That's really the truth. Yeah,
that's the truth.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Today today I was actually looking to see, like if
there were any kids ranked that are like in the area,
because I was like, it would be fun to like
see a high school game.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
I would do that with you, for sure.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
And I've wanted to go up to Park Center, which
I haven't gone in twenty.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
I went to a game there today. I told you
that that was a couple of years ago. One of
my buddies kiddo was it was like a youth game,
but it was crazy. Yeah. Fun.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
I want to get up there at some point. For sure,
it would be fun.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
I would do that. That sounds fun. Yeah, sounds fun.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
Well, why don't you hit a man? I'm having a
hard time me too.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
I forgot my name at the beginning. I was like,
Eric Buer or do I say am?
Speaker 2 (53:44):
I think I just say I didn't really talk to
many people today, and I feel like my mouth is
just like I was just not working.
Speaker 3 (53:54):
Click clack in the old computer. Today. I think you're
doing great. You're beautiful. We're going to talk some movie
true rivia now, Okay, I don't have many There's not
a lot of trivia for this movie. So just yeah,
let's all be cool. The predicament of the fictional Texas
State football team is based on a scandal surrounding another
Texas college, Southern Methodist University SMU bro SMU. I didn't.
(54:20):
I don't think I knew this. Smad't. Neither had been
placed on probation three times in the eighties for repeated
recruitment violations, such as giving monetary enticements to players and
their families, and in nineteen eighty seven, SMU was punished
under the repeat Violator rule, better known as the death penalty,
quote unquote, all football was canceled. Scholarships were evoked for
(54:43):
nineteen eighty seven, and only away games were allowed in
eighty eight, which ended up not mattering because the school
canceled the eighty eight season. Anyhow, the team came back
together in eighty nine with an all tryout squad, and
the Mustangs did not have a winning season until two
thousand and nine.
Speaker 2 (55:02):
That's brutal.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
That's a long time. That's a really long time, long time.
But yeah, I didn't. So it's a kind of like
the replacements based on a true story, you know, with
some embellishment's likely, of course, but I thought that was interesting.
Speaker 2 (55:17):
That is interesting.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
Texas State's school colors of green and white are the
same as those of the University of North Texas, which
was the main filming location for this film. So that
was kind of cool. They were like, yeah, we'll go
with it. Let's see when Paul Blake and I never
noticed this. When public gets off the elevator to go
to his dorm room for the first time. You can
see the elevators have been labeled. The one he gets
(55:42):
off says sooner evator and the other says aggravator. So
I thought that was just silly and fun. Yeah, I kid,
being goofballs. Who reads the labels on a on an
elevator rop This person did. Lucy Draper Kathy Ireland plays
(56:02):
the first female place kicker on the Armadillo's team in
nineteen ninety one. Since the film was released, several women
have played college football. Most have either been placekickers or
holders for placekickers, but in twenty fourteen, Shelby Osborne became
a defensive back for Campbellsville University in Kentucky and played
a pass crazy. That's pretty awesome. That's really cool. And
(56:26):
I think there was a kicker even just last year
or something that scored the first d one points maybe
or something. I don't remember. There was a story, yeah,
at some point, So there's a ben some ladies plan
and stuff. Oh, they say Manu's name in Samoan means
run to the litter, but apparently, depending on spelling, it
(56:49):
could also mean seawater or sandwich. Okay, so there's that.
There wasn't a lot of trivia. Did I mention that?
That was all I did? But I like that Sandwich
would have been a good one. Sandwich is great. Yeah,
I love it. How about you? Did you see anything?
Probably not no Zoro things.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
I mean I saw the ones that you saw, but
they certainly didn't have people that were up for.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
Roles or anything like that. That would have been interesting.
But no, that's cool.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
So you know, Judgment Day, will there be a sequel?
Speaker 3 (57:25):
I think it'd be fun if there was. Yeah, yeah,
you would be like, yeah, uh, maybe Scott Bakula and
Harley Jane's kid is now of age to play. Although
that love that, it'd probably be too old. But maybe
they're old and coming back and you know, they both
(57:46):
look young.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
They could. It could just be true after that.
Speaker 3 (57:51):
But yeah, it'd be fun if they're if their kiddo
was playing maybe or something, and you know, maybe it's
just a family affair. We get my news kid comes.
Although I think think he died. I think Manu died.
Oh I didn't see that. Just the last couple of years,
I think check now that I said that.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
Yeah, Peter, Peter.
Speaker 3 (58:12):
Yeah, February of last year he died or not this year, sorry,
this this year February tenth of this year he passed
a rip. A lot of joy back then. Yeah, I
loved him. He's so good. Thank you. He's a big guy. Though.
I guess.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
I think that a sequel would be hilarious if Scott
Beckel had to go back and play again.
Speaker 3 (58:34):
I'm into it, sort of a Billy Madison situation. Scott,
you still got ye? Yeah, yeah, I like it.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
He's still has the cannon.
Speaker 3 (58:48):
What if it's like their kid is a wide receiver
and no one is good enough to throw him the
ball and he's like, I can do it, kid, I
can do it. I like it. I want that.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
I'll watch it today. Yeah, dude, I love that. I'm
there for it. That he is too old, right, but yeah,
probably not.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
It could be like a he helps you could keep
necessary roughness, but have it be like because flag football
is an Olympic sport now, so like a play on that.
Maybe not the ladies playing or something. Sure, maybe it's
their daughter, Like that'd be kind of fun. It'd be fun. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
I just want to see him back in D one football,
like like at sixty years old.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
A thousand. He just blows up into a puff of smoke.
At some point. I'm into it. I love it. Sign up,
I'll go, I'll watch it.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
Would you like to play a game?
Speaker 3 (59:48):
Sir, Yeah, I guess yeah.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
Scared, We're going to do a last man Stanton. I
put out a tweet love It to our folks to
tell us a favorite actor actress with a large filmography,
a list of some of them. Uh, we have Clint Howard,
which is pretty great. Ron Howard's bro. You just got
(01:00:15):
to think about every Ron Howard movie, Aaron Taylor Johnson.
Then I got, uh, somebody put four names down. We
got Stanley Tucci, Liam Neeson which we like did recently,
Helen Mirren and Pierce Bros. Then, oh, this person must
(01:00:36):
have seen The Thursday Murder Club probably, and then uh,
we have Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Heath Ledger, and Dolly Parton.
Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
Oh wow.
Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
Now, and we had a wonderful patron named Lorraine. Go
through and tell us all the people that we have done.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Okay, yeah, this is good. So I already don't.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Know, and it's quite a few We've done this quite
a few times. And we have never done Heath Ledger
or Eddie Murphy.
Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
We haven't done Eddie. That was the one that stood
out to me.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
I kind of think we should do Eddie mur Eddie.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
I'm into it, man, I love Eddie.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
And we want to give a big shout out to
at Symphonic Ellen goes by Ellen Hunt on Twitter. Thank
you so much for throwing that at us. Eddie Murphy.
I was surprised by that.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
I'm surprised we've never done that. Yeah, that's I know.
Who was the name of the person again, so Ellen Hunt?
Oh thank you Ellen. I'm going to know.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Now I'm paying attention. I'm right, I'm documenting all the
people that we use.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
You're smart. That's good.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
And I went and wrote Ellen Hunt, which isn't helpful.
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
Eddie Murphy is surf we want.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
That is what we want. So Eddie Murphy, and.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
He's been in a lot of things.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Huh, he's been a lot of things. Why don't you
start us off, buddy?
Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
Forty eight hours? Another forty eight hours? Damn uh.
Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
Beverly Hills Cop Beverly Hills Cop two three and then
Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley is the fourth one, said did, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
Back to you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
We did that so quickly, we really did. I did
six movies so quickly.
Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
That's probably the fastest we've ever done six of them,
right right?
Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
Oh, and we could if we want to keep going
that way.
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
I was just I was just gonna Shrek Shrek two. Now.
I don't think that's what that one's called. Oh maybe
it's Is it just the third one that changes? So
Shrek the third? Sorry?
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
Is Shrek forever after?
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Yes? And I think that was the last.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
One, making a fifth one?
Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Yes, bro, damn yep. Okay, so we did the Shreks,
and luckily all of them have ended with me having
to do another one right away. So that's.
Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Yay.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
What have we not said yet? So many movies?
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
Dolomite is my name?
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Oh deep.
Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
Deep game. I'll remember that, but I won't remember.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
You know, maybe one of our favorites. Coming to America.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
That's a good one. That's a good one. I mean
that was on my list. But that's a good one. Uh,
coming to America. There we go. That was what I
was looking for.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Love it another one of our favors. Trading places, great one.
Speaker 3 (01:03:54):
No sequel to that that I remember Boomerang is him though.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Right, No, Boomerang is definitely him. Yeah, yep, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
I feel like I get the title of that movie
wrong a lot, so I get scared.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
Let's go another voiceover. We'll do mulan.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Oh that's a good one. Good call.
Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
Uh dream Girls, dream Girls definitely the Nutty Professor.
Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
Oh, the Nutty Professor too, which is oh god, there's
a thing.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Oh yeah, mm hmm. I mean I'll give it to you.
But I think it was just called the Clumps.
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
Oh wow, yeah, you're right. Or that's another one. I guess.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
I think it's I think you're right.
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
It's just.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
No, no, no, I think it's Nutty Professor to.
Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Not hashtag. But yeah, okay, thank you for that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
By the way, no problem. Uh, we'll do one that
uh norbit norbit is what I'm gonna say.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
I never saw that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
I don't think I did either.
Speaker 3 (01:05:13):
Daddy Daycare.
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
Yeah that's right, Yeah that's him, I think, Yeah, I
never saw that one either. He also did. I don't
know if there is he also did Doctor Doolittle. Right,
Oh yeah, good call all.
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
Uh life life Martin Lawrence, that's right, Martin Lawrence. That's
a fun movie.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Actually, yep, another fun one that I feel like people
don't talk about, but it was. It was so funny.
Was a bow Finger?
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
Yeah, Martin good call.
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
He was really good in that.
Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
It was a fun movie. I get mixed up Bowfinger
and Boomerang a lot. Okay, it would have worked in
this game, but yeah, I think I watched them at
a similar time or something. I don't remember why I
felt that way, but uh, okay, boy, is it bad
that I'm feeling like we've done a lot already?
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
We have done quite a few. We've done pretty good
on Eddie right.
Speaker 3 (01:06:24):
Now, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, you beautiful man? Just seen it?
Charge anything up in me?
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Did you see that clip of him talking about his laugh?
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Yeah? Then he doesn't do it anymore because he feels
self conscious.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Yeah, I think we talked about it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
It makes me so sad. Yeah, that's sad. I don't
like that. Yeah, I get it from his standpoint, but
I'm just like, oh, I don't want anyone to feel
bad about their laugh. That's this. I think Pete Holmes
does this thing where he's like, oh, the moment of
pure joy. You want to make me insecure? About it. Cool,
that's great.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Cool.
Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
Shoot, I should be thinking of a movie by I
might be outrop Uh, surely there must be more though,
Oh got it? Uh Golden Child?
Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
Oh yeah, I never saw that. Yeah yeah, And then
I never saw this either, but I'm I have other
ones yea, yeah? But was he was he in the
movie Harlem Knights?
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
I think he wasn't Harlem Knights with like Richard Pryor.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
I think that's right.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
Yeah, yeah, I didn't see that one. But when you
said Golden Child, I then went to that time period,
so we are harm Knights is in it? Yeah, in
nineteen eighty nine, so he is in it nights?
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
Nice, good call to first built.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
I don't think I ever saw that. I didn't either.
What is it? I don't even know anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
It's set in Harlem okay, yeah, and they're like wearing
like old school.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
Like what are those called, like zoot suits? Like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah the Roaring twenties or something something like that. Okay,
mm hmmm. So I think I'm almost out anyway, So
I don't think this is gonna matter, but talk this
one through with me. I can't remember what the hell
the title is Is it just Vampire in Brooklyn? That
(01:08:28):
is what totally forgot about that Good Call. I liked
that movie a lot back in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
Yeah, that came out. I get that one mixed up
with Tales from the Crypt, not because they're similar in
any way, but they came out at like the exact same.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
Time when they're both scared.
Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
Yeah yeah, yeah, but yeah, but yeah, good Call. I
would not have thought of a movie actually.
Speaker 3 (01:08:50):
Or it was. I guess I have no idea what
it's like.
Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
Yeah, I still have some Well Tower Heist I really enjoy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
Oh I forgot I was. I still haven't seen that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:03):
Actually, that was a fun movie. Roderick in that one too,
Broderick Stiller.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
And the gal from based on.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Yes Precious Yes, Gabby something c to Bay or something Bay.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Yeah, and there's still like five more people like it's
just completely it's Alan Alda I think was the guy
who like owned the building. Yeah, it was a lot
of people in it. It was fun movie.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
I might be out now.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
One that I brought up a few times. It was
fun when I it was like one of my first
years in college was a movie with him and Roberts
Niro and Renee Russo called Showtime.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
Oh that Yeah, yeah, we talked about it, but I've
never seen.
Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
Yeah, we had the movie channels and so I've watched
it like twelve times. There's one that I just watched
with him and Kiki Palmer and Pete Davidson called The Pickup,
which is like Prime or like it just came out
two weeks ago. There was one back in the nineties
(01:10:10):
called The Distinguished Gentleman where he plays a politician. He
goes by the name of Jefferson and then a different
president's last name I.
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
Can't remember sure.
Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
And then one that kills in the movie Pyramid Game
is one called Mister Church that I've never heard of,
but either I now know because of those movie games.
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Damn, yeah, you were good at that. But we did
really good. I thought.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
I think so too. Man, we did a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Let me look and see so far we've hit all these.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
Love that old on.
Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
Let me switch to moves here.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
I think we could have technically done his stand ups,
but that always.
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
Feels kind of oh yeah, I don't love that. Oh
you people, I never saw that with Jonah Hill either,
