A.I. EP. 318: "Kinda Hot In These Rhinos" - Ace Ventura When Nature Calls 30th Anniversary

The sequel to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective turned 30 years old this year, so we brought back the guys we talked to during the original Ace Ventura film, Benny Elledge and Adam Renegade Wilson. We had just as much fun the second time and hope you enjoy this episode. SHIKAKA!!!!

the Jukebox tour. Yes, I think we did an episode while.

to the Christmas tour really quick.

And you've been busy too, what.

Were you mas?

I went up north for a week.

Was hanging out full week, right?

Yeah, I mean I was working from up there for
most of it, but yeah, just hung out with the family.
It's a dear camp season up there, and it was
extra special this year because it was one of Dad's
favorite times of the year.

So we just had some.

Speaker 6 (01:37):
Lovely family time and the niece and nephew came up
and the Northern Lights were out all crazy, which was
all right.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Dude, I guess they were even in the cities here.
We missed it, but I should.

Speaker 6 (01:49):
Send you some pictures that I realized now that I
haven't done that. They Yeah, we're doing stuff I'd never
seen them do, and I've seen them a bunch now,
but it was like red to the like with the
naked eye, which never happens.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
It was really cool. It was it was wild, so
we got to go see those.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah. Man, we had eat a bunch of food. And
did people get into deer? Is that what they do?

Speaker 6 (02:16):
The party got some deer? Yeah, I don't know what
the current count is. I don't hunt.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
I just go to hang out.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
And I've sort of turned into the camp cook, which
is a.

Job I'm ready for. So it's, uh, it's fun. But yeah,
we did all kinds of crazy stuff and also nothing,
you know, so it was fun.

It was lovely.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
You weren't able to eat the deer that fast?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Are you? Oh? Yeah? Did you eat.

Did you get some Venicon?

Ah, yeah, we had No, we didn't this year. Actually
that is strange. Usually we eat the backstraps the next
day as sort of a treat. But we had only
got before I left. I think they'd only got one deer,
like my brother had only got one year.

Otherwise it was.

Family friends who were in the party that got them.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
So gotcha them.

Speaker 6 (03:08):
But man, we had a lot of pancakes and feed
a Genie Alfredo. We made one night we do we
do like breakfast sandwiches all the time, and it was great.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
It was real good. Love it real real good. Yeah. Yeah,
that's all I've been doing. What have you been doing?
I guess you already said.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Just touring, man, And I've been home for like a
full week, which has been really nice. I went had
a big Minnesota sports weekend where I got to see
our Timberwolves lose in person and our Vikings lose in person.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
I didn't realize you went to the Timberwolves game. I
guess I missed that one. Fun, so it's your fault,
I guess.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
So, yeah, that was a bummer. It was really cool
because I guess it was the Prince night, so I have.
I have a Prince jersey now, which I'm I'm enjoying.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Them purchasing one. I'm pretty sure, because yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
It's the coolest uniform.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
But yeah, they.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
They just didn't do well at the very end, which
was a bummer.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Yeah, well they were playing Denver.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Denver's amazing.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
We just we've only beat teams that are under five hundred,
and we've only lost to teams over five hundred, so
we can't beat good teams. That's fine, really, yeah, I'll
figure it out. But I also went to the theater
just the other morning.

Oh what did you see?

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Well, I went to an empty theater because I went
in the morning and it's at the very end of
the theatrical run for one battle after another.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
Oh you were able to see it?

Speaker 4 (04:54):

I was, And I'm really glad that I saw it
in the theater me too.

What did you think?

I really enjoyed it?

Wasn't it great?

I really really loved it.

I had been kind of putting it off because it
was two hours and forty minutes. I could have seen
it on the road, and I was just like, that
would be my whole day up until which is like
and stuff. So it was just like cool, I don't.

Know, and then i'd be home.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I just like, I can't it's three hours, but dude,
it did not feel like it. I was entertained the
entire time. I think it might be my favorite Paul
Thomas Anderson film thus far.

I don't even think it is. I'm pretty certain it is.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
So much of his stuff is so dark, and this
one was kind of more of a thriller, really.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Like kind of a siller.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Yeah. It had a real silly thread through it, which
is so fun. Ye, I'm with you, I'm with you.
It was like, because all of his films I can
respect and like really well done.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Probably not going to rewatch ever, Like There will Be
Blood is probably a masterpiece, but I'm not gonna see
it again.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yeah, where this one.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
I feel like I would go back and watch this
because it was just fun and the characters were kind
of goofy and just I I really enjoyed it. So
I'm gushing, but I was very very glad I saw it,
and I would highly recommend it.

Love it. It's going to get some Oscar stuff too.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yeah, I mean it's definitely gonna be nominated, Like, but
it's because it's it's that like thriller kind of a movie.

I don't know if it's going to win any like, yeah,
that's fair real awards. You know. Javier Benisio you mean sorry, Yeah,
it was really fun. He was just so funny. He
like was just a charisma bomb. I think, I said, well,
and Leo was so much fun and yeah, kind of

a different character for Leo too, which is kind of
like Regina Hall acted her ass off. She was awesome.
She was awesome in it. Yeah.

I loved her in it a lot.

I could see it being up for some cinematography because
like that kind of ending scene, it was so intense.

Because of how they shot it.

Man, Yeah, I could go on and on. I loved it.

Yeah, so yes, exactly. Yeah, I did love that. That's
a good cable. And Sean Benn was so crazy. Go
check it out.

What was the last movie you watched?

Last movie I watched? Also in the theater, I saw
Springsteen Deliver Me, Deliver.

Me from Nowhere. Easy for me to say, uh, this
is the biopic.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
I was excited for it initially and then I didn't
hear great things.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
Yeah, and I kind of have like that a little
bit of a lukewarm take on it. I will say
the past things first. Jeremy Allen White is great in it.
Jeremy Strong is really fun in it. Paul olther Hauser
is in it. He's just always a joy. David Crumholtz
is in it, and you know, I like, there's there's

a bunch of fun stuff in it. Also just really fun.
I have now been to that part of New Jersey
with Chanson, Zami and stuff, so it was just fun
to see things. So that was like, Wow, that's really cool.

What is it s Eshbery Park. Yes, that's the second word.

Yeah, this is all it's.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
It kind of in a fun way, gets away from
the like it's too wide scoped because it's their whole life,
because it's pretty much only talking about his album Nebraska
when he was coming up with that.

I will say.

Speaker 6 (08:51):
Not the most compelling, Like it just didn't feel like
there was a lot going on. Like the acting was good,
the script was just okay. I thought some cool shots
and like the songs and stuff were really fun.

But it just didn't It just didn't hook me. I
had fun, but I just didn't.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Think it was amazing. I guess, so it's kind of
a lukewarm review. But it was a good time.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
It just wasn't like, I don't know, I felt like
they were going for like Oscar movie, you know, like amazing,
and it wasn't that for me. I'm not a huge
Springsteen guy though, either, so maybe that is part of
the you know, I know a ton of tunes from
that album, but I don't know, and nothing against him.
It's just like, yeah, he's okay.

He just never was a part of my you know,
life or whatever. So I don't know that.

I feel like that is worse than I want it
to be. But I had a fine time watching it.
I just don't think it's like an amazing film. Okay,
watch it on a plane, you'll have a guy, You'll
have a nice time.

Yeah, I've missed quite a few of those biopics when
it's when I hear that, it's like, okay, I'm like, yeah,
I might just miss it then, but that's okay too.

Yeah, I don't know, it was It was fine. Yeah.
I had some moments, for sure, sure, but yeah, what
have you been to? Stir?

Speaker 1 (10:10):
I finished the fifth season of slow Horses. Oh it's
so much fun, man. I feel like I say that
every time. There's only six episodes a season, so it
feels like it goes by so fast.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Yeah. I really need to get on that again.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, you say that every time.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
I know I liked it, but just like I don't
know what.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
The thing that I like about it is that I
feel like a lot of those kind of mystery thriller
shows feel like they lull in the middle, and because
this is only six episodes, it's like there's no time.

For that to happen. It's perfect. Yeah that is great.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Well, yeah, Gary Oldman is still amazing. The rest of
the cast is a bunch of fun. They added Nick Muhammad,
who we all know from The ted Lasso.

That's cool.

He played kind of a douchey politician in this season.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Yeah, just a good time. I'm a big fan of
the show. I like that. I like that someday maybe. Yeah.
Lots of stuff, lots stuff to watch, right, I know,
it's crazy, it's crazy. Fants.

I rented The Roses, which I don't think I've talked
about on here yet.

You have not talked about the Roses. Now that's like
war are the Roses? Kind of right?

It is a remake apparently, which I did not know,
which is the Did you know that was Danny DeVito directed.

That back in the day, Yeah, and Michael Douglas and.

I never saw it.

I kind of want to now.

Super dark comedy, very like surreal almost at points. The
cast is like insane. It's Olivia Coleman, Fanaedic Cumberbatch. They're
the main couple of Yeah, okay cool Olivia Coleman and
Ben the cumber Batch of the main couple both absolute

delights as well, all you know, Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg.

Uh, there's just a ton of people in it.

That Zoe Chow, who's been in a few things I've.

Really liked, Yeah, which I really have enjoyed. They're married.

And then like it's sort of one of those kind
of marriage story e about a complicated relationship that's sort
of going through some hard times. But this is like
the insane side of that.

Where like they're doing crazy things to each other, they
do love each other. It's very weird.

It's uh, it's really something, but it's super super funny,
and I was I was laughing out loud several times
in it really well acted as we would expect from
those folks.

I don't know that it's for everyone, because it does
get pretty dark.

You know the original one was Oh it.

Was okay, Well that makes that makes total sense then,

I really had a good time with it, and I
like that style, so it was fun.

I definitely recommend seeing it. It's not like the best
movie you're ever going to see, but it's it's pretty
fun and just to get to see these great actors
go crazy, it is pretty fun.

he's coerced out of retirement while on a soul searching

white bat from a village located in Africa. The sacred
animal was offered up as a wedding dowry from the
Wachutu Prince to the Wachiti Wachati Wachati Princess. And if

civil war will break out.

this movie a ton when I was a kid, and
I loved it a lot. Yes, it is not as
good as the original, but it does have just so
many funny parts. I think like watching it this time,
I was like, man, it's like, I mean, this character

was already goofy in the first one, but it's like,
while he was meditating with these monks, he was also
just sniffing glue the whole time. Because he is nuts
in this remake, which is really really fun. Let's just
get it out of the way early. The doesn't age
great with the native tribes and the African folks. That's
pretty rough at points. He's a big dumb idiot, So

there's that. I don't know, the parts of that are
not right great. I liked the take of him like
that's the one animal he doesn't love because he thinks
they're yuckie.
