Speaker 1 (00:01):
The sun is shining out a cloud in the sky.
We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Some people on some skis, but we.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Would rather sit on down and talk some movies. We're
the avid Indoorsmen. Come listen to our show. We're the
avid indoorsmen. At home on the goal, We're the avid Indoorsmen.
We hope you love.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Its, so come on in and stay. We'll do our
best to make you smile.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Were the indoors man?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
What is happening? I'm Rob on one Quist.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
And I'm Bo and we here the l indorsement.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Hello everyone, How are you, buddy?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I'm doing good, pal uh, just living the life up here,
getting excited for a little tanksgiving. Oh yeah, I guess
this will come out later than that. It doesn't matter.
They know how things work, they know it goes. Yeah,
just to pump for that. How about you? How are you?
I'm doing good. We started up the Christmas shows?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
How those been they've been okay. I was battling a cold,
which I'm finally finishing.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
So it's just no fun on the road when you're
just feeling yucky and totally just having to navigate.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Singing through that is just the worst.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
It's the worst in the whole world.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
It's just so much more bandwidth, like thinking about it,
you know, you're just being like, Okay, how can I
do this without cracking or whatever the case may be,
right exactly. Yeah, so that was a big bummer.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
But what's not a bummer is that my my oldest
my little puppy is twelve years old.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Dang twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I just had her twelfth birthday. That's yeah, that's wild, dude,
isn't that crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It's wild to me. I gotta imagine it's for you.
It's wild for me.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
She's still just like so spunky and like hasn't really
slown down too much, which is really fun. We brought
her to pet Smart and got a little to have
these little like doggy birthday cakes. It got her some
toys and just like, yeah, she's just the sweetest.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
She's such a sweet girl. Man, she's been just that's wild, bro.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
I mean, I can't guess that makes sense, right, because
it was like it was we were still kind of touring,
like in the van and stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Maybe maybe it was the r vase it was before
you got married.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Then, right, Yeah, that was like right, at the same time.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
That's what I remember too.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, so that's wild. I know, such a sweet girl though.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
She's the best. That's awesome, she's the best. It's exciting.
Did she like birthday cake? She did?
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Didn't didn't go well later because we all got to
we all got to enjoy how that kind of messed
up her tummy a little bit. Then, Yeah, it's like,
it's fine. You deserve to be a little gassy.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
You're fine. Man.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Those dog farts, though, they can clear out a room, bro,
really can.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
They really can? They are wicked. Have you seen any
movies lately? I have? I watched an okay movie? Oh okay,
it was.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
It's on Prime and it is called Playdate.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I don't know that I would.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Recommend because the story is pretty dumb and some of
the dialogue is terrible.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
However, it's got.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Our guy Alan Richson, who we like from Reacher, and
Kevin James and.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
They oh it's that okay.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah, yeah, they're a pretty fun duo. And have the
material been a bit stronger It could have been. It
could have been pretty great. Sure, sure, sure, And I
did like I liked their chemistry. It was fun. But yeah,
I wouldn't say, hey, you need to see this, but
(04:20):
I was on a flight on my way home from
the first set of Christmas shows and it was good
for that. I probably wouldn't go out of my way
to see this one. I always have the hardest time
with these recommendations because I'm like, you know, I haven't
seen some just amazing classic movies. And then I'm still
(04:41):
just like, oh, Kevin James and Allen Richson and something.
I'm gonna watch that right away, Like.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
You know, Sophie's Choice is a better movie. But it's
not like it's going to be fun to watch them,
you know what I mean. Yeah, sometimes we just want
to you know, it's like reading a magazine or something
over Warren Peace.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
It's right venue for the rep situation. Yeah, I working
with here. If that sounds like something that you'd be interested.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
In, check it out. It was okay. I feel like
I probably will at some point. I hear some of
these movies though, I'm like, oh, yeah, that's a that's
a straight to streamer.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
That's a streamer.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I get it. Okay, Yeah, great for sure, that's what
this is. That's fun. Yeah, I like it. What have you?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
What was the last movie you watched.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I went to the theater and saw a crazy movie.
It was really fun. It's called The Running Man. Oh
tell me? Yeah, So this is the new Glenn Powell film, uh,
directed by Edgar Wright, which I think we talked about previously,
because I was surprised that that was what was happening. Uh,
(05:51):
really different than the first Running Man, which I found
I heard that. Yeah, I found out this is closer
to the original, like because it's a step k book
I think, or short story. It's one of it's Stephen
King wrote it. Whatever it is. It's pretty wild, it's
pretty crazy, but it is. I really enjoyed it. I
(06:11):
don't think it's like an incredibly like great movie, but
it's super duper fun. And if you're there for like
a you know, just like a shoot him up with
a lot of charisma going on, you're gonna have a
great time. I really really liked it. It's just like
you know, it's it's an action movie. There's plot stuff
(06:33):
that doesn't necessarily make like a ton of sense, but sure,
if you can overlook that, you're gonna have a great time.
I know I did, And you know, Glenn Pala just
continues to kill it. He loves movies where he can
get in a disguise.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Was he doing some accents too and stuff?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah? I think he does do a couple accents and stuff,
which he does it. It's like, I get it, that
would be fun to play around. Why not, you know
you're a big star, do it?
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Did you see him on SNL because he was he
was promoting Running Man.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I need to watch that. I heard it was really
good though, Right.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
It's the first one that I've seen start to finish
live in so long.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah, he gets to show off some more accents and
and his physical stuff, and it's really he's a really
talented guy.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, but yeah, it's a The like plot line is
is a they go kind of a little more it's
hard to say more dystopian, but they go slightly more
dystopian in this one. It's it's a little bit hunger
game z. Which did you watch the first Running Man?
A lot? I watched a ton I was super ever
(07:38):
saw it once. No, that's so wild. That's you know,
just the ones we miss. But yeah, uh that one,
that one's a little more insular. This one builds the
world a little bit more, which is fun. Yeah, I
really enjoyed it. I thought it was really fun. Uh
and it's a it's got the Edgar right, like he
knows how to action pack and action see he shoots.
(08:01):
It's so cool, you know, like it's like quick cut
like active. I don't know, it's something about his style
is really it's really a pleasing So yeah, I would
check it out. It's really good. You're gonna have a
good time for sure. Cool. Cool. Have you been streaming anything?
I have?
Speaker 3 (08:17):
I've been streaming the most bonkers show. I've watched the
first six to six episodes of The Chair Company on
HBO Max. What in the world is that? It's the
Tim Robinson show.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Ah, that makes sense?
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Yeah, okay, okay, it is absolutely insane. It's funny because
we don't get Tim Robinson being as nuts as he
normally is. Sure, but the entire plot line is ridiculous,
and all of the supporting characters are way out there
(08:53):
and they're doing more like Tim Robinson esque thing.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
So he's like.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
The ballast exactly.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Exactly.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Yeah, as much as he can be a straight man,
but it also has just this like underlying stress throughout
the whole thing. It can be kind of stressful. Some
really funny things go down as well, kind of dark,
just kind of weird. It's it's all based around this
(09:28):
one incident that happens that he just completely obsesses about
and then needs to dig deeper, and it's just it's crazy.
It's really crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
That's funny, and it's just active now. So like there's new.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
There's eight episodes total that will be out, but I
think maybe the seventh is.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Out currently, so the probably by the time, by the
time this comes out, it'll be you were going to
say the same thing, You're good good, Well, that's cool.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
I might have to check that out. I don't do
you think this is a good intro to Tim?
Speaker 3 (10:07):
I mean, I don't know, because dude, the I think
you should leave. Did you watch those now?
Speaker 2 (10:12):
I really should? I don't know. I don't know why. Yeah,
full disclosure, only because I think this comes up in
the episode. We're recording the opening after we did the
episode with Sammy, so I think we talked about it.
So it's just breaking my brain. I felt like I
had just call that out, as I said later, As
(10:34):
I said later, wait for it, you guys. I just
never I never have delved into his stuff. I don't
know why I'm not. It's not like intentional, it's just
kind of like just have it.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
So yeah, his stuff, it's it's just interesting.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
And but he just does so many different things and
this now is just so different from that different brand,
so it's it's hard to say gotcha. Like Sammy mentioned later,
Friendship is a is really out there and crazy as well.
One thing that's funny is that he keeps getting really
(11:11):
attractive women to be his counterpart, smart smart, his love interest.
He has Kate Mara in in Friendship, and in this
it's Lake Bell, so it's just oh.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Man, and they're both so good. Lake Bell is so
funny too, Yeah, so funny. They both are pretty Yeah,
that's she's really funny. So yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Check it out his on HBO Max. Yeah, that's all
I got. It's it's not super long episodes either. It's
like thirty to forty minutes.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Oh cool, that's nice. Yeah, nice to plow for room
sometimes cool.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Yeah, what have you been streaming?
Speaker 2 (11:47):
I'm gonna cheat and just do another theater film, but
I went and saw Roof, ma'am. Have you heard of
this movie?
Speaker 3 (11:54):
The Channing Tatum one?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
It was only in the theater for a hot minute.
We just happened to catch it. That's the right time. Yes,
Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst. Stanfield is in it, which
is really Tony Revelorie, who you'll know is Flash from
the Spider Man films. Oh yeah, his like butt head
(12:19):
enemy kind of guy. You know, those are kind of
the only giant names I remember from being in it,
And giant is probably overstating, but people would know this
movie was really interesting. I liked it a lot, I
will admit I sort of thought I was getting into
a different film than what it ended up being. I thought, so, like,
(12:40):
the the shtick is, this is a really smart guy
who has never like applied himself, right, And he is
in jail and breaks out and he's called the roof
Man because he that's how he broke into all these
places that he burgles, and he then like breaks out
(13:01):
and stays in a in a store for an extended
period of time while he's like hiding it. That's like
the stick, right, And I thought it was going to
be kind of like a little bit of a thriller,
but mostly just like a kind of lighthearted comedy romp
about living in a store. That's not really what it
is in a nice way. I guess maybe I should
(13:22):
have known because Kirsten Dunst is in it and she's
such a great actor. But it's a little more serious
than that. It's about like love that kind of morphs
and comes into the story and then a man trying
to like make changes in his life and do the
right thing. It's it's pretty interesting, but it was just
darker than I thought it would be, and you know,
(13:44):
more drama, I guess. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
I thought it was more lighthearted as well when I
saw the trailer.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Yeah, Like the trailer makes it look like it's like, oh,
he's gonna you know, he's eating peanut m and ms
all the time, because that's what the food is that's
in the you know. And it does have moments that
are really funny and great. Peter Dinkla is also in it.
I should have said him, he's great. I forgot that
he was also in this movie. Yeah, how fun. But yeah,
it was good. I definitely recommend it to folks, but
(14:12):
just know going in like it is a more of
a serious movie. There's some boohoo's in it and stuff
like that, and but I thought it was really good.
Channing Tandem. I really like him as an actor. I
think we've talked about him a number of times, but
I think he's really good and funny and pretty charming.
So yeah, yeah, I think Chan's great.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
I call him chand because you are.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
It's deal. We're not on that level yet, you know.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, yeah, I still call.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Him mister Katum when we text. It's a it's a
whole thing. But yeah, worth checking out for sure. But yeah,
what do you think should we do if you plug
our runs?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
I would really like that?
Speaker 2 (14:49):

Speaker 2 (15:44):

I can confirm. So check it out. And yeah, we
don't I think, no for sure what's next? So just

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Yeah we might be doing the sequel. That's kind of
fingers crossed. It's the hope can make that work.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, I love it. It'd be fun, So stay tuned
for that. But we're here to talk about, as we've said,
the twenty twenty four phenomenal film Wicked, And we really
had no choice on this one. As we said, I
think we I think I spoiled it already. But Sammy
is our guest here, and she watched it and was like,
(16:32):
I love this film. You must have me on it.
So it made it really easy on us, so so easy.
Let's welcome her back. She's she's wonderful, she's unlimited, she's perfect.
Let's use Sammy corrupted. What's up, Sammy?
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Hello, Hi, it's good to see me. Isn't it.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Good to see you? You're flay started out.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
I even planned that. I just thought of it right now.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I love that. That's great. I just thought you meant it,
and then I realized it's from the movie.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Oh buddy, I'm hi.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Are you.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
I am doing I'm doing really well. I'm on break
from work. I have seen the second Wicked movie. I
me too.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
That is guys, don't say anything. I want to talk
about it so much rop time yet. Okay, that's fair.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Yeah, I won't say anything, but I will say that
it's keeping me afloat that movie alone. Right now.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
I love that. I love that. One thing I wanted
to ask you right away, because you're such a reader.
You can go to Instagram the reading Jones and follow
your reading account. Have you read the source material for
this phill up?
Speaker 3 (17:53):
That's a good question. I thought so too.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Yes, of course I have. I Actually it was my
last read of twenty twenty four, but I think it
took me through January a little bit to finish. So
I read it this year technically.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
And.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
It is very different than both the stage play and
the film. Interesting, very dark, very like not for children.
When they made the Broadway musical, they took they took
the book and based on its themes, created something that
(18:31):
everyone could enjoy and also that children could learn from
because I think, you know, I'll get into it. But
this story has so many lessons that are so important.
But the book is like strictly for adults.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
And very interesting. I'm intrigued by that. I can't talk.
I got to remember we're talking only about the first one.
I'm sorry. This is my fault. It's also my fault.
I haven't said what we're talking about. We're talking about
Wicked from four. Yeah, it took the world by storm.
(19:08):
We can all agree, and we're so happy to have
you here to chat about it. This is the best
was the book just called Wicked.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
It's called Wicked, The Life and Times of the Wicked
Witch of the West. I believe.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Okay, yeah, cool, okay, thanks, love it, and you're perfect
for this music theater like book stuff, brilliant, you are magical.
This is all guys, this is all great. Really.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
I was telling Robin Beeks before we started recording ies
made for this moment, like literally when Wicked came out,
I was like, let me know the second you're filming,
because I'm ready. I'm doing I'm ready the podcast.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
And we were like, wow, people so rarely are interested.
This is great.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Yes, we're on board because I could. And I said
to Adam earlier today, I was like, they're going to
have to tell me when to stop talking because I could. Yeah.
He he knows firstand he's just in there listening to
me go on and on and he's just nodding.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
I told him. I was like, hey, I'm sorry, we're
gonna have to take Samy away for a few hours
on Tuesday. And he was like, yeah, she wants to
watch the movie with me Monday night. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
He really dominated his couple of days here. That's okay, Yeah,
thank you.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
I am. I am working on a PowerPoint for him.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
To like apprise him of the situation before the next one.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
Yes, because I love that and I without without like
spoiling anything. The second movie was so good that I
need him to appreciate it enough. So I'm laying the groundwork.
I'm explaining things. I'm giving him the loure I'm giving
him so.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
That, oh he'll like that. That's can Can I be
copied on that?
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Sure? I can send it out.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
I don't. I need to watch it again because I
didn't have that strong of a response, and I want to.
Speaker 5 (21:06):
Okay, yeah, there's there's a lot of little gifts for
the people who have seen the show on Broadway, and there's.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
I do bet that, which is have you ever seen
this show the musical?
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Okay, I did it in Chicago. I didn't get to
see it on Broadway. I saw in Chicago and did
the lottery thing and.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
And you've seen it, Sammy, right, it's I don't know.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
I didn't get to catch aDNA and Kristen.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
But gotcha.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
I listened. I wore that soundtrack out when it first
came out, and then I did see it on Broadway
and was just like.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
It's got to be so fun on stage.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
It really is. It really is. It's beautiful. It's such
a like it's it's magical to watch on stage. So yeah,
I mean I've loved it forever forever, and so I
almost feel like watching it on film like I need
to see it a few times, both the first one
(22:10):
and now having seen the second one for the first time,
I like need to go see it again because it's
it feels like it's so and aside from just Wicked,
like Wizard of Oz was like one of the first
movies I ever saw.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Yeah, I played with.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
Dorothy when I was a dancer. We did like a
production of Wicked, and I was Dorothy like, it's so
in my DNA that like it's hard for me to
absorb the movie for the first time because I'm just
like the anticipation of seeing this thing that I've dreamt
my whole life about is like it's overwhelming. So yeah,
(22:48):
it's this is this is this whole film coming out
has like just meant so much to me. I love
it so much.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
I love that love for this is unlimited. I'm sorry,
let into it, gang Rop, maybe you want to get
it started with just a rough.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
SYNOPSI sure misunderstood because of her green skin. A young
woman named Alphaba Forge is an unlikely but profound friendship
with Glinda, a student with an unflinching desire for popularity
following an encounter with the Wizard of Oz. Their relationship
(23:26):
soon reaches a crossroad as their lives begin to take
very different paths.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Nice, nice, love it. Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes. Hear
what they have to say. Critics have it coming in
a pretty rock solid eighty eight percent. Oh solid, that's
better than the what's the last one we did twenty
twenty three years.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
We've done a couple stinkers lately, but we liked him though.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
We did that. Audience members have this even higher than that.
They have it at ninety five.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
That makes sense.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Rash hot rash Uh, it is hot, and it's time
for our hot hot take. Oh that's a hot take.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
That's a hot take.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Ah. I didn't think of anything.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
We gotta think about stuff, dude. We've had a few
bad ones here. Yeah, something's hot.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
I don't know. Yeah, it's the bubble they ate that's
by sea sandwich and then they got bubble Guts and
that's what she's traveling around in. I don't know what
you want from me. I'll go first here. I really
like this movie. A ton I am a big fan
of Wizard of Oz. In general, I'm a fan. I
feel like people people will go like crazy for Wizard
(24:46):
of Oz. So I don't know, Yeah, I'm a big fan.
I feel like that's like our friend Lust is a
crazy super fan and has forever as well. Uh So
I don't want to misrepresent myself, but I liked it.
I love the source mat I love this movie. This
this iteration of it is a ton of fun. I
think it is wildly colorful and just energetic, this whole
(25:10):
movie in the best ways. I think it's a super
fun I love when we get source material that everyone
knows and we just do like little little twists on
a new retelling of it. I think that's really fun
when it's effectively done. Just really like that. The themes
in this of you know, that sort of tried and
(25:30):
true theme of like not feeling like you belong and
feeling like the world is also agreeing with you, and
then also finding your place and just finding your voice.
You know. It's a coming of age story in a way,
even though they're both maybe they're supposed to be younger
in the play, but they both seem like adults to me.
But maybe that's just me.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Is basically high school. Oh I think No, I guess
university is college, gotcha?
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Okay, so that makes sense. But yeah, that that storyline
is always just so great anyway. And you know, we
love a coming of age story here on this podcast,
so we sure do. We're big We're big fans of big,
big fans. But yeah, I just think honestly that the
biggest thing in this, aside from the actors, who I know,
we'll talk about a bunch, is just the energy in
(26:17):
this and just the I feel like you can really
tangibly tell how much they love this source material from
the Wizard of Us originally Wicked, the book, also the
you know, the stage show, Like it just felt like
a lot of people getting to getting to do what
they love, and that is that is palpable. I feel
like in this tons of great actors, tons of great
(26:40):
stuff going on, and some great tunes too. So I'm
a huge fan of this movie. I think it is
a ton of fun. My hot take, oh, I don't
really have one. I don't I don't know. I couldn't
really think of a hot take other than I'd never
seen the show and I didn't look up how the
(27:01):
second one was going before I went, which is not
usually I'll do a little read through, you know, for sure,
you know, just to see, but I didn't do anything.
So yeah, that's my tip and take very tepid, buddy.
Nice job.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Yeah, I had very similar to you, like usual. I
thought this is such an incredible film. I thought it
honored the stage show so well was able to make
it even better with the incredible production design and the
amazing visual effects. It was nominated for ten Oscars. It
won two for Production Design and costume Design. I was
(27:42):
directed by John m chu who also directed Crazy Rich
Asians in the Heights and a bunch of music videos,
so he was set up pretty well to do a
big musical production like this.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Stephen Schwartz is responsible for the credible score.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
He is a musical theater royalty after creating Godspell and
Pippin and of course this.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
I was completely blown away by the two leads, not
only with their extremely impressive vocals, but also their acting
was bonkers. Yeah, yeah, I thought it was just it
was really fun. They gave all the nons to the
originators of the musical, with Stephen Schwartz making an appearance
(28:31):
and both Kristin Chenowien and Dina Menzel having their stepouts.
I really liked that they did that.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Yeah, hot take.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Sometimes turning a stage musical into a movie doesn't work
very well. Sometimes it's meant to be on the stage
and it can lose some of its magic. But this,
I think just takes it to a new level. I'm
so happy that a musical that means so much to
so many people came out as amazing as it did.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
It had very high.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Expectations and I think it met them. And everyone clearly
put just so much time and so much love into
this project, and it shows love it.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Hot take, Pal, hot things, Thank you all right, Sammy,
the floor is yours.
Speaker 5 (29:16):
Okay, And like I said, you might just have to
stop me at some point, I take my takes aren't
so hot as they are just enthusiastic. I guess my
one hot take would be anyone who like any criticisms.
I respect if people don't like things, especially like if
(29:38):
they have a valeries and not just like that I
like it. I don't like care very much, man, but
I've I've I'm so immersed in the conversation surrounding this
film that when I see a valid criticism, I'm like,
you're wrong.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
My hot take is I accept zero criticism of these films.
I I have in like thought about every criticism I
have heard and been like, no, I actually I disagree
with that. I'm not just being defiant, Like I think
these films are perfect, and this film maybe even especially so,
(30:17):
because it set the stage like it is something that
we have been waiting for for so long, and and
they showed us right out at the gate that they
were prepared to they were ready for this, like they
and like like like you said, it was a bunch
of people coming together who loved what they did, from
(30:42):
John M two to Ariana and Cynthia down to like
the people who planted the fields and apparent, yeah, apparently
all of the like all of the Emerald City was
like functioning, like there were they made, they made snow
(31:05):
globes for the little like outdoor carts they made, like
the salon was fully operational, like crazy. The amount the
attention to detail that was put into this is unlike
anything I've seen, and it just it was it felt,
like like I said, like a gift to the fans
(31:28):
of this musical, like no stone was unturned and and
and A. I think you can feel the love that
was put into it, but I think you can feel
the the care, the attention, like the fact that like
so little of this is CGI, Like if this was
made by someone else, we might be seeing a lot
(31:49):
more CGI and a lot less practical effects, all the
makeup everything. It was just stunning visually. Then, like if
you're getting into like the emotions of it, here, here's
maybe sort of a hot take. I think Alphaba should
have always been black.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
I'm like, yeah, it's kind of wild that it wasn't
that way. I'm with you because it's exactly that makes sense,
you know.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
Yeah, And it's it's gotten to this point where like
the source material and this is part of my PowerPoint,
so buges you're getting a previews, it's it's gotten to
the point where the source material was so sacred for
so long, and for this to not only meet that
(32:36):
level but surpass it, and like for me far surpass
it is kind of been blowing my mind, like like
now this is wicked to me, When for so long
I was like, please be precious with this because it's
so sacred, and now now this has become what Wicked
(32:57):
is to me, Alphaba like since Thea's portrayal, and I
know we'll talk more specifically about each actor, but definite,
it feels like she should have always been black. It
makes so much sense to me. And yeah, I I
loved viewing it through that lens, and I love the
(33:19):
message of this story I feel like in Alpha ba
so but I also do really love Glinda's arc and
I and I'm excited for Rob and everyone else who
hasn't seen for Good yet to see where her art
continues to go. I think hers is a really important
story for a lot of like most of like Alphaba's
(33:44):
are not the norm, Glinda's are kind of more the norm,
and I think her story is really really important. Yeah,
I'm gonna stop myself there. I I just I can't
say enough good things. I love this deeply.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
I love it. Hot hot take I thought of a
hot take during that. And I know you don't like
you don't want to hear criticism, Okay, yeah, just give
me a chance. I just want to say the one
bad part about this movie. Those blonde eyebrows just do
not work for and as a person with blonde eyebrows,
it made me very self conscious. I don't know, I
(34:23):
don't like, no, I'm just kidding, but they I'm just
every time I looked at her, I was like, man,
those are definitely died, for sure died. And that's weird
to say in a movie where someone has all over them.
But it's it's through me. It's through me, And I.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Don't know why, because you know that she's not blonde.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
I don't know that.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
It's just like with that complexion.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
I don't really washed her out, as she's obviously beautiful
and great and you know, like, but yeah, as a
person with clear eyebrows, I was like, come on, come on,
come on, you feel bad. That's all I got. Shall
we talk about our favorite acting performance. Shall we name
(35:06):
the dude the dude?
Speaker 6 (35:09):
I'm the dude, So that's what you call me, you
know that, or his dude or duder or you know,
el dudo reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
But Sammy, you get to go first.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
Cynthia Rivo is my dude. It's the way I will
give credit to like the fact that this is for
the camera and and not for the stage, that maybe
(35:46):
the stage Alphaba's wouldn't even have this opportunity. But she
plays Alphaba so contained and like steely and reserved, and
it's I I And this is why I say, I
feel like she it should have always been a black woman,
because I feel like I feel her lifetime of understanding
(36:09):
being othered watching her just her slight facial expressions, her
like just putting up with just aggression, microaggression after micro aggression,
just like and just internalizing it. It. It was really
(36:30):
beautiful and I know that like a lot of people
were so shocked by Ariana Grande's performance because they weren't
expecting it of her, so she got a lot more
talk like buzz but and kind of for me as well,
because I knew Cynthia Rievo was gonna be perfect. Right,
But I I I have now seen this movie, I
(36:54):
think nine or ten times, and it's awesome. Her arc
every time like gets me like she sold it and
it's just she is Alphabet now in my brain, like, oh.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Have back. I did not know.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
I guess you didn't hear the doorbone heard.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Someone say that's great.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
Adam will be home soon and he.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Can on the way he does something.
Speaker 5 (37:36):
But yeah, I just I I literally, I think that
she was so this was so lived in for her
and so like realized, like she it was masterful to me.
So she is, my dude, I.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Love that you have.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
That's amazing. I of course picked her as well. She
has one of my favorite voices of all time. I've
said this a few times on the pod. She is
just she has a perfect tone and one of the
best live vocal singers I've ever I've ever heard. It's incredible.
(38:15):
And I've also said this a few times, but I
was introduced to her in a clip from The Color Purple,
the Broadway show where she out saying Jennifer Hudson, which
I thought was insane because Jonifer Hudson has an incredible voice.
But yeah, it's the best alphaba I've ever heard by
(38:41):
a lot. But not only vocally. She just she acted
her ass off those scenes where she's got tears streaming
down her face. Yeah, And like you said, Sammy, she
keeps it so contained in the beginning and even vocally
(39:02):
and then by defying gravity, you're just like there it comes,
and it's just like it gets me charped up just
thinking about She's just incredible. She's perfect, She's perfect love
that and also sorry she she told Sammy that she
looked great at this words. I just had to say
(39:25):
that again. I keep bringing it up.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Now, that's a great point.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
We saw she in theorevo and she locked eyes with
Sammy and it was pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
I have thought about that moment so many times over
the last year because I already loved her. But I
think I said to Adam today, I was like, I
am so lucky she said that to me when she did,
because I would have lost it. I would have lost it.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Yeah. This is before we saw her in Wicked, right, Yeah,
this was before.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
This was two cmas ago, so she was like they
were starting to promo it.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Yeah, and she just like she.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
Was like your beautiful and I was like, oh, which
I took as like like she liked my outfit because
she's a fashion girl and I was wearing this like
kind of uh asymmetrical, like kind of see through dress
and I felt like I looked kind of different and
(40:36):
she know, which is so alphabet of her she I
think she that's what I was thinking that she was
noticing that, like, oh, you're not in like a glittery dress,
and I like, like, what you're doing, and so she
complimented that, and I was I like, literally squeezed down
his hands so hard, and I was like, please tell
me you saw that. And then I was thankful that
(40:58):
you and Kelsey did because I was like laboration.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
Was. I felt like I was just as excited as
she was. I was like, oh my god, if that
was six months later, you were to just burst into
tears or something like.
Speaker 5 (41:17):
Yeah, so that I I don't know why we're talking
about this. I'm a mind blanked, but yeah, that was moment.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Yeah, I just brought it.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Wanted to dude, and why is she here?
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Dude? Yeah, it's a clean sweep. I agree with basically
everything you guess. I think other than Rob one Quist
of Home Free, she's the best singer on planet earthp No,
I never will get rid of me. She's awesome. I
(41:51):
totally agree with everything you guys said. I had a
comment to you, and I obviously I don't I don't
know anything about acting, but I assume you can get
away with those smaller things with the eyeball of the
camera being right here as opposed to stage where it's
you know, however many feetback. But her I loved when
you were talking about her like trying to hold it
(42:13):
in both of you. I just thought, yeah, that's what
it was. She was like a like a teapot just
like it was boiling, you know, like it was it
was so close to that one degree of difference, you know,
and have to keep like tempering it back. I just
think she's magnificent, and in a movie with other great
performances that are wonderful that we will soon talk about,
(42:36):
she was even a step above all that. I mean,
she's just perfect, perfect perfect. I don't yeah, I don't
have anything else to add other than she kicks ass.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
She's awesome.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Good call. Let's talk about some of those other folks though.
Show we name the Tucci, the tootill hard Sammy, who'd
you have for your tea? Well?
Speaker 5 (42:57):
I try to always when we when I'm on the podcast,
think of someone like truly like what the Stanley Tucci
word means to me, which is like someone who just
like comes in maybe not like a huge role. But
if you've seen my Instagram lately, I made a whole
TikTok about this. I well, TikTok and real, I guess,
(43:18):
but I if there are no Jeff Goldbloom as the
Wizard fans I am dead because I.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Talk about also perfect.
Speaker 5 (43:30):
Thank you. I think he is perfect in this role,
and watching it again today, I was like I wanted
to watch specifically with that in mind that I was like,
I just made a video like talking about how perfect
he was, Like do I actually believe this?
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Let me?
Speaker 5 (43:46):
Let me watch again? And I was like, yeah, no,
I literally I can't imagine anyone else in that role.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Yeah, and I've.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
Never seen it. I've seen it. I've never seen it
performed like the way that he did. Like they've always
been like sort of whimsical, but not Jeff Goldbloom is
it is in a category of his own, and I
it's twofold. It's like there, I think it's Oz would
(44:16):
have never allowed this person to come in from obscurity
and then become their leader if he wasn't so charming
and quirky. So I think that's so so important to
his character.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
But also, oh, were getting into spoiler territory.
Speaker 5 (44:37):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
I get you. I get you. We can just just
move past that.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
What what I will say is that no, I don't
want to say anything else.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
I love it. I refuse to talk.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Sim thank you for being so conscious of it, though,
I really.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
That's awesome because especially because you know.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
It so well, like not to go ahead.
Speaker 5 (45:10):
I get that the they did like a special like
a Wonderful Night in Oz or something special.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
Cool.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Yeah, I didn't see it yet.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
I didn't either.
Speaker 5 (45:19):
I refuse to watch it just because I was like,
I don't even want to hear how they sing the songs.
I don't want to hear the choices they make because
I hate spoilers. So yeah, I don't want to do
that to anyone else.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
I can't watch trailers anymore, I know.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
And because they've made it so that you see the entire.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Moment, they really lay it out for you now, Yeah,
for sure.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
But yeah, very appreciative of that.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
That that's a great pick.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
So yeah, I kind of feel like we should have
probably just gone into Ariana Grande right to Jason, you know,
because I mean, she was so us off. She clearly
listened to this so much growing up. She sounds so
much like Kristin Chenowith in her higher register in this stuff.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
That's yeah, you just know that she has sung along
to this her whole life. When she's such a mimic anyway.
Speaker 3 (46:25):
But yeah, I was. I was really impressed with her
operatic tone. It was really really professionally done. But she
also just completely embodied the character. I can't really imagine
a better performance from someone else, and I'm sure that
the list was very long of people who wanted that part,
(46:50):
but yeah, I can't imagine anybody else. She was so good,
she was perfect. So yeah, just crazy, go ahead, Sammy.
Speaker 5 (46:58):
Well, I was just going to say, like, I know,
because I've seen every interview they've done. I know that
she has been pretty much like manifesting this her whole career,
Like she's every chance if you like look through her
or like if see interviews and like compilations. The amount
(47:20):
of time she would bring up Wicked throughout her career
say I'll do anything, I will do anything, and then
or like now she says, like I she's Ariana Grande.
She's so famous. She can go to the head of
Universal or whatever Mark Platt is and bother him to
be like, hey, whenever you're starting to audition for Wicked
(47:44):
right here, like yeah, okay, So she was constantly I
feel like her whole life she was preparing herself for
this and and actually when she found out, when her
like team found out that they were starting to do
auditions for Wicked, she put her Ariana Grande career on
(48:04):
hold and started training for like six months before her audition. Crazy,
like the the work ethic is like like, like you said,
it's it's someone who loved it so much. And yeah,
I she she blew my mind. I was so surprised
(48:26):
by her. She Yeah, I can't picture anybody. And I
know of a few actresses who like got close and
every all those names. I'm like, no, I can't even imagine.
Speaker 2 (48:38):
Right, right. Uh. She's also so great at playing the
like vapid, you know, like that undertone under it, but
also in a very likable way, you know what I mean. Still,
if she tells that line so well, yeah, she's just
hysterical on this. It makes me think of her SNL
(48:58):
bits where when people were surprised she was funny. I
was like, guys, did we not watch that? How do
we not know?
Speaker 5 (49:05):
That?
Speaker 2 (49:05):
So good on a number of different things. But yeah,
it was just a few people that you know, I
guess just forgot that or never saw it. But I
think she's awesome in this, and you know, if if
the goddess cyn the Arena wasn't also in this, we
would have applauded her even more. I think so.
Speaker 5 (49:27):
Well, what I will say is the first act of
the show of Wicked is the is alphab becoming wicked like?
And the second act is Glinda becoming good?
Speaker 2 (49:44):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 5 (49:47):
Glinda gets her moment.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
Later yeah them, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
But this movie felt like really like Cynthia's arc or
Alphaba's arc, whereas Ari's arc as Glinda is a longer one.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
Totally yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, she was awesome. You want
to say yeah for otherwise I would have said.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
Jeff Goldbloom as well. The only other person I would
say that also would have been an amazing wizard, but
probably like twenty years ago, would have been Christopher Walkin.
That's the only other person that I could love that see,
just because you need somebody like super original, like absolutely,
what about.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
Our guy Jack Black. I really think he could it
be a different wizard.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
It would be so much fun.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
I think he could kind of do it, And.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
I mean I would love to see it really, you know,
and when you go there, then it's like, well, Will
Ferrell would be hilarious too, just like there it could
be great, but I was just kind of picturing, you know,
Jeff Goldbloom has such an iconic delivery, and it's just
there's nobody else like Jeff Goldblum, right, because.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
They're both have that kind of dancery vibe too. Because
wasn't walking to answer first, totally think right, So that's
a good call. I like that a lot.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
But I had him too. But then my my runner
up would have been Jonathan Bailey. I thought that I
wasn't familiar with his previous work, but I thought he fiero. Yep,
I think he just won Sexiest Man Alive as well.
Speaker 5 (51:19):
He makes me giddy.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (51:24):
Love that gay man so much.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
Yeah, he is wonderful.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
I mean he totally looked the part. He has to
be that like egomaniac but also show like a bunch
of empathy and like really.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
With me too.
Speaker 3 (51:38):
Yeah, and he had he had a pretty strong voice
as well and moved really well. And yeah, I thought,
I don't know, I've only seen him in that Jurassic
Rebirth after.
Speaker 5 (51:51):
I was familiar because he was he like came to
fame in I think he did stage stuff. Maybe I'm
wrong about that, but he came to fame in Bridgerton,
which I did not see.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
Or something, but.
Speaker 2 (52:05):
I've heard that now that you say that, that rings
a bell.
Speaker 5 (52:07):
But he like came into the show not in the
first season, and people were like, who is this man?
But yeah, I didn't know him until Wicked and I
was like, we'll see and I fell in love with him.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
You were like, well, we saw and that was awesome.
It was great. Uh uh oh. Sorry.
Speaker 5 (52:35):
One more thing about Jeff Goldboom's character is I I
think Christopher Walking is also a perfect like fits this mold.
But like so I saw a tweet that was like,
did they just did they not even hand Jeff Goldbloom
a script? They just like just stuck because he's so
(52:58):
like he's not from oz like he he and we
know that I think we like that's not from the
second part, Like that's just we know he comes from
somewhere in the Midwest and.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
Is it omaha he says omaha.
Speaker 5 (53:17):
Yeah, oh maha. I think he's Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (53:21):
Oh ma.
Speaker 5 (53:24):
So I like the whole point is that he doesn't
really fit in with these care like he is quirky
and weird and different and he he's just a guy.
From the Midwest to like a Carneye from the Midwest,
you know, like I love that he's so weird and different.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Yeah, yeah, it's really great. I love all those pics.
Those were all people on my list. I thought Bowen
Yang was really fun as so much fun friend and
I think there's some trivia later about I think it
was Ariana that's suggested him for the part, and that's
usually a lady right like it's a it's a pair
(54:07):
of ladies that are like the best friend, supplicants or
whatever they are. So that's really fun. I thought that
worked really really well, and I thought he was He
was very silly and great.
Speaker 5 (54:16):
It's so funny.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
Rob a person we saw on Broadway. Kala set set
all right, I wrote down, Yeah, I forgot fun to
see her. We saw her waitress back in the day.
She's also the bearded lady right in. She didn't get
(54:40):
to do much in this, but it was just fun
to see her. And I sort of took that as
like they were like, oh, yeah, she's amazing, let's just
get her involved and find out on.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
What I understand, that's not even a role.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
That's crazy made it the part for her.
Speaker 3 (54:52):
That's fine, Yeah, that's fun.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (54:55):
It was super cool. H And then she's got a
monster voice too.
Speaker 4 (55:00):
I know.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
I was like, how are you going to put her
in a show?
Speaker 2 (55:02):
And I guess at it is pretty wild, yeah, honestly.
And then another great voice. But I think just for speaking,
I've never heard anything but Peter Dinklish was He's just
that was so great.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
Love did you not see that syr No movie, like saying, dude,
it's like it's a musical.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Oh fun? No, Yeah, well that's cool. Uh yeah, and
everyone the the whole I will say I watched on
one of my rewatches. I watched, like I tried to
just watch the background folks, like the chorus folks, because
I was sort of like, I assume all these people
are badasses that have been in a ton of stuff too,
I'm sure, and they were having a blast and I
(55:49):
really liked that part too, So just shout out to
all them. I don't have others, but.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
Yeah, well and Michelle Yo, while not having like a yeah,
a strong singing voice, she got the job done.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
But yeah, she's clearly not a singer. Yeah, but yeah
she uh. I thought she was really good in the
scenes badass though, and absolutely not the worst singer we've
seen cast in a Russell still has that as far
as I know.
Speaker 5 (56:26):
That was way worse and like, yeah, like not a lot.
I think probably in total she had maybe maybe ten
lines of vocals.
Speaker 2 (56:37):
Yeah right, right, okay, pretty overlookable, right, like okay, and
she's the best, so and she's the best. Is the best.
Speaker 5 (56:46):
I've always been, like, even as someone who did the
musical theater route and like got my degree in theater, like,
I have always cared so much more if the actor
can convince me that they're feeling what they're saying that
like it being technically perfect.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
Absolutely so I love that.
Speaker 3 (57:07):
I just guess it's a huge role like jove air
when it means to be an amazing vocal.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
Yes, so bad. It was terrible.
Speaker 5 (57:24):
I just got out some candy tat and I realized
it's pink and green.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
Oh did you guys notice I'm wearing a green shirt.
It's the only green shirt I.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Have finally doing it.
Speaker 3 (57:36):
Guys, Oh my gosh, really pink and green flowers?
Speaker 2 (57:40):
Oh my god, stop it? My though is something to see?
Speaker 5 (57:43):
Stop it?
Speaker 2 (57:48):
I'm the wicked witch. Now that's weird. I don't know
what it was any other people.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
We have to say for the do you listed everybody
that I was gonna name?
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Let's move forward. Then let's talk about our favorite scene?
Shall we name the dingus? So think this is quite simple,
really dingus dingus. I could talk about my dingas all
night long. I'm gonna kiss you. What's your favorite scene? That?
This is not easy to pick, It's.
Speaker 5 (58:16):
So not I have three listed. Mmm, Okay, I'm gonna go.
This is maybe a cheat because I chose a song
love It.
Speaker 2 (58:29):
That's fine, into it. We've chose always an entire second
half of a movie before.
Speaker 5 (58:35):
Yeah, dancing through life sequence Love that was beautiful from
the library to the end of the oss Ballroom is.
Speaker 2 (58:47):
So great.
Speaker 5 (58:49):
The choreography, Jonathan Bailey's performance, Uh, the emotion, like the
relationship building that happens with uh, not only Alpaba and Glinda,
but Bach and Nessa and Nessa bringing that to Alphaba
and Alphaba going and doing a nice thing for Glinda
(59:11):
and getting morrible to take her into the class, and
then the everything that Alphaba goes through when she gets
there and Glinda like it's so beautiful and it gets
like I have not made it through that scene ever
without weeping.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Yeah, no spoilers, but say, yeah, so it's.
Speaker 5 (59:36):
My it's my I think it's my favorite, like overall,
like spectacle of the movie to watch?
Speaker 2 (59:42):
Does that include the circular bookcase Stuff's so cool just
from like a choreography and a totally amazing Yeah.
Speaker 5 (59:56):
Like I watched We Have We Bought It Wicked digitally,
so it came with all of these like like behind
the scenes stuff sure, and learned that there's so many
shots specifically in that one, Like there's a shot where
a guy leaps over and the camera like follows him
upside down. That was practical, Like that was like the
(01:00:18):
fun they choreographed that. Oh my god, that's fun.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
Yeah, so good, And so that was going all the
way through that like the scene thing.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Yeah, it's kind of a multiple scenes, but totally Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
I was so ready to be cringed out by that
dance scene and was like on the verge, I was
just like, oh god, and then it just like becomes
this whole, like really beautiful thing. I had a lot
of different feelings in that because I was ready to
just be like, oh, this is like this is the
(01:00:56):
part of musicals that I don't like, like, I'm ready
to just hate this. And then yeah, I was pleasantly surprised,
but yeah, and then even got emotional.
Speaker 5 (01:01:08):
Yeah, oh my god, I was gonna say I I
I think they want you to feel that. I think
they want you to be like, this is so and
then it because that's what that's what everyone who's around
hers is feeling. Oh man, that is so moving.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Yeah, I love what you're saying, though rap where you're like,
it's like teetering. It's going to be so cheesy, horrible.
Sometimes we see, oh go ahead, I have to.
Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
I locked down them out so I'll be one second.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
All right, you're good. Like I love the part when
someone is like, I don't know, I don't feel like
I belong. And then it's like, stop making up dances
in the middle of the school dance, you weirdo. It's
okay to just hang out by the snack table. It's fine.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Yeah, yeah, we don't need to choreograph our own dance.
I didn't feel that way, but there was a part
like you could make a funny bit about like, I
don't know, I just feel like I don't belong. And
then she goes in the middle, just like yourself, elbow dance,
just step touching step stay there, yeah, do you know?
Speaker 5 (01:02:22):
Do you know what that is? By the way them
talk about it, so it's uh, both Ari and Cynthia
have their own and no one knows what it is.
But they're spelling something out that means something important to
them with their elbow. Cynthia doesn't know Ari's, John doesn't
(01:02:42):
know either of theirs. It's just a personal thing. But
they are spelling something out that's meaningful.
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
Okay, yeah, nice. Or they had like rotator cuff injuries
and they're like, this is one of the that's a
great pick. Rob you haven't said I.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
Have not, and mine was easily define gravity, Like yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
I feel like a basic bitch, but absolutely absolutely, I
mean everybody, everybody was waiting for this song.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
Everybody's waiting for this number. It's clearly the biggest song
from the show. But it just was better than I
was even hoping for. It just was so incredible. It's
the best I've ever heard that song. The visuals are
so nuts. When she like slow motion like whips the
(01:03:44):
cape yes you know, and gets that's on the broom
and it's like, oh, hell, let's go, let's do this,
her flying all over the place.
Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
There's just so much more you're able to do visually in.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
This film than you were on stage, and it just
takes it to a whole other level. There's definitely some
boohooing in this for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
And I thought for a movie that did so many
things practically, like we've talked about the seag I have,
like the storm clouds and all that was so cool,
like I think her.
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Yeah, sorry, keep going, no, no, her when she is
like plunging and seeing her younger self and reaches out
and then the broom and just like sick. That's just
stuff you can't do on stage. This is incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Yeah, I love that. That's also what I would have picked,
and that like for nothing else than the and nobody
in all of it, like that whole thing and the
way she the way she made it her own while
still walking the line of like it is the song.
We know, she didn't take like too many liberties, you
(01:04:59):
know what I mean. Sometimes people can overdo it, and
it was just it was perfect. It was right down,
like you couldn't have done it better. I don't think
it's impossible. I loved it so much. And it's obviously
like the emotional height as well of that of that act.
And I'm a weird guy. I like act ones, like
(01:05:20):
generally speaking, way more than X two's. It's probably because
I am such a like a boohooer, but I'm just like,
I don't know. I like a little conflict, but I
like to see people really doing doing well and going
for it. But yeah, I'm with you, rop. I love
that scene a ton. A smaller scene that I really
(01:05:41):
really liked was the Popular song. I've always thought that
it's a super funny, silly song. It is one of
the most musically songs you know that's in the show,
which in the best way because I love those but
just the like the vocal inflections and they're like friendship
slash like kind of frenem me still at that point. Stuff.
(01:06:05):
It's really great. I really like that scene a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
Dude, that bit when she has her wand and then
she's like ball gown and then she's like doing the
vocal just like like grunting pretty much. I mean, that
is legitimately funny. That was really funny stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
Yeah, I like that too.
Speaker 5 (01:06:30):
There are a lot of like in the extras and
bonus stuff. There's a lot of like extra just improving
stuff that already did from from that scene. It's so
she's so funny, it's crazy great.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Uh what were your runner up, Sammy?
Speaker 5 (01:06:47):
Yeah, One Short Day in the Emerald City. I oh yeah,
I think that is my favorite, like the best choreograph
number I've ever seen in a film adaptation.
Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
Yeah, that was a spectacle. That whole scene was just
like whoa what is this is amazing because.
Speaker 5 (01:07:09):
The like choreography is so interesting to watch because it's
like not it's otherworldly literally, so they're doing these like
funky movements. But then also there's people doing different things
everywhere you look. It's not just one dance happening Like
it's crazy, and it felt.
Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
Like a continuous shot like and it was going through
the and maybe it was. It was just group after
group after group doing different scenes.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
It was really cool.
Speaker 5 (01:07:36):
How in the world did they choreograph this? Like yeah,
so just from like a musical theater a loving perspective
like that is the most fun thing to look at
for me in the whole movie. But and then the emotion,
for the emotional side, what the movie opens up with
No one warns the wicked pretty much? Is that what
(01:07:58):
it's called?
Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:08:00):
Yeah, with and of course at this moment the first
time you're watching it, you don't know everything that comes before,
no one more than Cycad, but it just gets It's
it's one of those scenes that like every time I
watch and now especially having seen part two, the depth
just gets deeper and deeper with that scene. It's it's
(01:08:22):
really really powerful and Arid did so good.
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
Yeah she killed it, Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
So that I think I included that because it was like,
it's surprising, I never really cared that much about that song,
but yeah, it was. It's a really powerful acting moment.
M what about you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Other one that I.
Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Wrote down that hasn't been mentioned was the Wizard and I.
It really gets to show you're like, Okay, let's see
what Cynthia has, and you're like, oh, she's just gonna
be so good. She's going to be so good. She
kills that so and you know she's got to go.
It's kind of your typical I'm out and about and
(01:09:08):
I'm singing and I'm fight and total musical song, you know,
but it's just so charming and just vocally there's just
nobody better.
Speaker 5 (01:09:21):
And you mentioned Raber like she like she was vocally
restrained at points. I think wizard and I is when
you can really like hear it. She's when I say immature,
I don't mean like you're so immature. I mean her
voice sounds younger in that song, less like experienced, like
it's I don't I'm not a vocalist, so I don't
(01:09:41):
even know how you approach that. But yeah, I don't
know either. Her voice literally sounds like it's like clenched
a little. Yeah, it's still beautiful, but yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Also loathing, I just love that tune. So watching that
scene is so fun and that song is so silly
and great.
Speaker 5 (01:10:01):
Is so you know, a lot of musicals have a
song like that built in because enemies to lovers is
like a big trope in musicals, and usually that that
loathing song is written for the romantic couple. So I
(01:10:22):
thought it was really cool that it was. There's also
there's some there's some something saffog going on with the
two of them, for sure, sure, but I I it's
it's it's just another thing that separates this show from others,
(01:10:42):
is that, like this is Yeah, there's a romantic side plot,
but it's a side plot. This is about these two
and it's I love I love their journey.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
I'm now just thinking about the the bonkers fan fiction
that has to be out there about this universe. Holy
you know it, you know it, like we got animals
talking and so boy.
Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
Anyway, I've got some things to google later. How do
we feel do we feel it? I feel pretty good
about a duel dingus of the library scene that you said,
I forget the song. I'm sorry, that's right. Dancing through
life and then define gravity. I have to find gravity.
What do we think? Absolutely, we're into it? Boom see
(01:11:31):
Should we start talking some quotes? Is the time to
show me the money, Show me the money, show me
your first say some quote.
Speaker 5 (01:11:44):
I don't really have very many.
Speaker 2 (01:11:46):
Tough didn't either.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
I'm with you to musicals because you want to just
like do the song.
Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
Yeah, right right.
Speaker 5 (01:11:52):
I was just going to say, I feel like the
best lines are lyrics, but I have a few. They're
mostly Ari in the very beginning, when she says to Bach,
you know what, I you know what. I believe he's like,
what she's like. Strangers are just people I've never met,
(01:12:16):
so great. She delivers it and it's like like it's
a profound thing. It's like, yeah, it's just.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
A fact, it's just the definition. But okay, cool.
Speaker 5 (01:12:24):
Yeah, like the polite the most polite way to turn someone,
like to reject someone. And then in their dorm when
she Elbet goes to shut the windows and she's like,
oh could you not? I just I so enjoy air.
Speaker 7 (01:12:45):
She like.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
The hair flot thing thing right, like that's straight from
the show.
Speaker 5 (01:12:54):
Oh yeah, I think so. I mean it's so like
it's it feels like it's like legally but like it's
so that that girl, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
She's stiff, but like Corre, I love.
Speaker 5 (01:13:15):
Okay, uh whatever they put it in the they put
it in the movie. There's there's there's there's a line
when uh Fierro and Alphaba first meet and she's so
she's so defensive with him, but then at the end
she walks away and she goes gets stuffed, And.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (01:13:42):
For reasons. I mean, I feel like.
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (01:13:48):
That's what I'll say. I love it after right before Popular,
when Alphaba and Glinda have been talking all night and
sharing vulnerable stuff and then Ari looks Glinda looks out
the window. Look, it's tomorrow. It's so cute. And that's
(01:14:09):
that's a line from the play that she was like,
I'm saying that there's a lot I meant to say this,
but like there's so much that specifically Cynthia and Ari
have advocated for like nope, we're keeping that from the play,
Like there's uh, there's a lot like that. And then
(01:14:29):
my the last one I have is it's in the
middle of defying gravity, but it's this like a talking moment.
It's when our uh Glinda says, sings to her you
can you can have all you've ever wanted and the
way I mean I've heard it a million times. Yeah,
(01:14:53):
I know the way, like because it's in the song.
I know, but I don't want it the way Cynthia said,
as I know. Yeah, she she's like I know, like
like she knows her power now, like she doesn't need
to be convinced of like I know, like yeah, because
(01:15:14):
because I feel like every alphabet I have seen is
like grappling with the like like saying that line more
grappling on the side of like I know, like it's
still really hard to let this go. But Cynthia was like,
I know, like I'm more powerful than him, Like I
don't want that, and it was, Oh, it moves me.
(01:15:35):
I have goosebumps just thinking about it. And it's just
I know that's the shortest sentence. She's so those are
all I out.
Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
Those are great.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
The Wizard saying the best way to bring folks together
is to give them a.
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
Real good enemy. Amen. Amen, that one. That one works
a lot. Glinda, something is very wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
I didn't get my way. I need to lie down.
Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
I like that. When she's like running along with the train.
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
Yes, She's like, I wouldn't want to impose, and she's like,
it doesn't it doesn't matter. Just come with me.
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
I couldn't possibly. This is your moment. I'm coming. I'm coming.
That That was pretty cute.
Speaker 7 (01:16:25):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Bow and yang.
Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
She's so brave, such braverism, she felt it felt like
he improved it. But also using their goofy language, yes,
which I enjoyed.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Yeah, their wordplay in this in this hole, it's really
fun and silly, Like it really brings you back into silly,
silly times, which is fun.
Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
When Glinda is meeting the Wizard and she's like, the
gut is silent and he's just like, hello, oh, Linda.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
I like pretty great.
Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
And the last one, uh, when she is showing Feara
feara through the library and she's like, and this is
the book place.
Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
I liked that. That's a great one.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
I love when they're in the room and she's like, Elfie,
can I call you Alfie? And then she's like, and
you can call me Ga Linda. She's like, that's your
that is your name, and she's like, let's not quarrel.
Just that cot. I love that, just like no. Also,
they're talking when they're writing the letters and she goes
(01:17:44):
dearest darling, mumsy and popsicle. That made me giggle a lot,
and I liked it. It was very fun. And then
at that I think it's towards the end of that
song when they're they're both trying to describe each other
and they're like, it's hard to say, and then they're like,
my roommate is unusually an exceed peculiar and all together
quite impossible to describe. And then Alpha but just goes blonde,
(01:18:06):
which is really I.
Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
Love that moment too. I was just talking about this
this morning, but that's such a fun little like moment
as a I guess in the screen player in the whatever,
no in the in the book, like that's in the
musical because they're both kind of not being truthful there, right,
(01:18:32):
Glinda is. The reason she doesn't like her is because
she's green and ugly, and but she's so concerned with
being seen as good that she's like it's kind of
hard to like, she's screaming her way around. And Alpha
(01:18:52):
BA doesn't not like Glinda because she's blonde. She doesn't
like her because she's judgmental and you know, entitled, But
she's so defiant that she's like and doesn't she has
such walls around her heart that she's like that it's
(01:19:14):
too vulnerable to even admit that. So she's like, I
just she's blonde. And so they're like both lying about
why they don't like each other. And I just love
that moment of writing.
Speaker 2 (01:19:23):
Yeah, A moment I really loved. We haven't really talked
about her. Vnessa Rose. She was good.
Speaker 5 (01:19:34):
Her name is Marissa Bodie. I met her the other day.
Oh how fun she was at she was at my theater.
Oh god, I made a school out of myself. You guys,
so I went Day one, which I knew the theater
would be packed, but I wasn't expecting there was a
(01:19:56):
group of like twenty four people that went right before me,
and a couple of people were in wheelchairs. I didn't
think anything of it, but then at the at the
very very end, when Marissa's name came up on the screen,
they all started screaming like I was like, oh my god,
these are her friends. It was like twenty four people
there for her. And when I leave the theater, people
(01:20:19):
are like talk like she's there and people are talking
to her, and I'm like, okay, I'm like still wiping
away my tears and I'm like all right, I like
everything in me says to just keep walking. But like
she's at a screening on day one, like she's good. Yeah.
(01:20:40):
So I was like, I'll just say something because I
don't want to, like I don't want to look rude,
Like I'm like, call me when Cynthia gets here, like no.
So I did go up to her, but I was
still like so overwhelmed from the movie that I started
getting choked up all lot was talking to her, and
(01:21:01):
then because I didn't want her, Okay, I know what
it's like to have to witness someone coming up to
someone and gushing and and maybe maybe like putting their
feelings a little bit too much on that person. I
know I've witnessed it, and so I didn't want to
do that. So then because I started getting choked up,
(01:21:23):
I was like, this isn't because of you.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
You're like, oh, I don't mean.
Speaker 5 (01:21:33):
I was like, this is it was just the movie
and she's like, it's an emotional movie. I was like, yeah,
it is, but I just wanted to tell you, and
then I don't know, I kind of blacked out for
the rest of it. I complimented her. She was kind,
but I walked away from that think I was like,
I just was like, I'm not crying because of you.
Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
Like right, I want you to know, Okay, yeah, I
don't want you to get a big head here. I'm uh,
you were you were fine emotional because of what I
just saw. Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 5 (01:22:09):
I was like, I don't think she thought of it
once satter. I'm but I was like, in the moment,
I feel like I was one of those people who
like the person is.
Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
Just like okay, yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:22:26):
But yeah, she was great.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
She is.
Speaker 3 (01:22:29):
I really liked her and this, Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
I didn't say the moment, sorry, the it's when the
might be Cilla comes up and is like in a
pusher in the wheelchair and they say in tandem, don't
help her slash me. I love that moment so much.
Number one, just from like people I've known that that
use wheelchairs and they're just like, hey, don't do that
(01:22:53):
unless we've talked or you know, like whatever. But also
just showing there they really the Arcolos sisters, you know,
despite being treated like very differently from one another. And
I just love that moment. I thought it was really
really great. Another small, tiny moment, but they did it
so well.
Speaker 5 (01:23:10):
That's great.
Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
Yeah, another one do I Oh, I loved the Alphaba
and Fierra. We kind of referenced it. But when she
goes into her list, when he first sees her and
sees she's green, is what she thinks, right, And she's like, no,
I'm not seasick, and he's just like, either mine, No,
I did not eat grass as a child, And he's like,
oh you didn't, I did, you know, and just like
(01:23:34):
kind of going opposite and then it's like and yes,
I've always been green and the defensiveness is that a
recent development? Sure? You just thought he was so he
was so great in that moment. That seems really fun too,
because he like immediately shows he's not just the heart
throb guy, because he's like actually talking to the horse
(01:23:54):
who is his friend. They clearly have like camaraderie. It's
not just a you know, all that stuff. So I
love that. And then it's early but that are people
born wicked or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?
I think? Is like I mean kind of the sentiment
of the show. Right, Yeah, So I just thought that
(01:24:17):
was great. Those were most of the ones I had that,
Like we said, love it.
Speaker 5 (01:24:23):
That's good. Those are good ones.
Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
Those are good ones. Well let's move on, let's go
to the crying games bugs boohoo moment. Why you probably
had many more than I thought. I had a tough
time because, for example, in Defying Gravity, I found myself
getting emotional like five different times.
Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
Yeah, yeah, that's fair.
Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
So I said, from five to ten times, love it.
And the first time was when baby Alphaba is taken
away and the sweet bear takes care.
Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
Of her, the sweetest that bear deserves a trophy.
Speaker 7 (01:25:03):
Absolutely, Yeah, absolutely the end of the Wizard and I
absolutely yes, yep, the oz dust ballroom hat dance scene,
the ugly hat.
Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
Oh yeah, yes, yes, yeah, when when Glinda puts the
flower on Elfie and says, oh Elfie, you're beautiful. Yeah,
that is lovely, lovely, And then yeah, I just said
so many moments in the last fifteen minutes. It's the
(01:25:41):
Wizard who should be afraid of me? When Glinda gets
the cape for Elfie, yes, and yeah, like five times
so to find gravity. So that's what I had.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
I didn't know if you were going to have any
of the Peter Dinklice is the goat what it was named,
doctor Dilman. I didn't know if any of that stuff
was gonna I did be emotional, Okay, I don't have
any friends.
Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
Well maybe just one that did get me, because that
is a beautiful little relationship that's happening.
Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
There were some good ones there and.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
Podcasts, you know, like that's kind of a trope, but
it's also just a thing. Sorry, I was gonna say.
Speaker 3 (01:26:28):
And then like the lion in the cage bit maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
Possibly No, that didn't get me for some reason.
Speaker 3 (01:26:35):
You neither.
Speaker 5 (01:26:36):
I don't know you hate lions.
Speaker 2 (01:26:38):
You hate I actually desperately love the cowardly Lion, and
I would love to play him someday. I think that
would be very fun. But yeah, no, I don't hate lions.
I just to test everything there about. No, that didn't
get me though, that seemed that specific. One should just
(01:26:59):
go through what I have. Yeah, Su're not wrong. This
is a problem with me emotionally. Musicals, especially first songs,
get me. So no one mourns the wicked, just like
that first the chorus coming in and everything that that
got me. That got me real good NESSA and Bach
(01:27:21):
when they say we deserve each other for a song anyway, Yeah,
I love that. I love you for a complicated moment
in retrospect, but yeah, we'll go on from there. I
did make a note basically just the last twenty seven
minutes I was crying, so there is that something has
(01:27:42):
changed within me. Obviously. Oh you said the cape, so
we had that think of what we can accomplish together.
It's so great. The line I hope you're happy now
that you're choosing this. I hope it brings you bliss
just felt so real, especially like anyone who's been in friendship,
(01:28:03):
romantic relationship, whatever where you were like, I guess we're diverging,
but it's not because we don't care for each other.
It's just like this road's done now you know it's
not for them, but you know, we digress. And then yeah,
just the whole defining gravity was just it racked me,
(01:28:23):
rock me. Yeah, se I think that is thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
Well, wow, we've been on a streak of zero.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
So it was good. It felt cathartic.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
Yeah, we needed Yeah, you needed I needed a thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
Listen, if you think the only time I cried during movies,
we have not communicated.
Speaker 5 (01:28:42):
Well, so I have a question about the Bahoo's is
is this How many times have you seen Wicked?
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
Only twice? And I think I do think if this
was a movie I've seen a bunch, it would be
way more more. Yeah, he gets weird, like when we
did that, that's that was like a million because then
it's like it was it's kind of like you're talking
where you're like these little moments and you think of
(01:29:12):
the whole breadth of their relationship and stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:29:14):
So is it when a tear escapes the eyeball?
Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Yeah, it is. It is a continuum of Misty to
tears Falling for sure, too ugly crime, which doesn't happen
in every movie, but it definitely happens in Endgame for instance.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
The first Yeah, the first time I saw this, I
saw it in the theater with Kelsey, and I didn't
get that emotional, but it was mostly because Kelsey gets
like emotional in movies.
Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
But not like she got in this really got her.
Speaker 3 (01:29:47):
It's like she was like sobb and so and it
was kind of like and I don't want to be
like you're taking me out of this, but it was
like I was kind of like are we good?
Speaker 2 (01:30:00):
Like do we need to leave? Like is there which
is like yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:30:06):
So it was it was nice being able to see
it again just kind of by myself and just like
get to feel those feelings, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
What I mean, she's next to you, just like.
Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
All right, and then but dude, it was so funny
because then we went into the car and like we
sat in the parking lot for a while, like she
was very upset, but not upset.
Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
Just like she was emotional. She was definitely feeling it,
and it was it was pretty fun because I seen
her do it from movies before, so it was really
so how lovely to have a piece of art touch
you in such a love you know, I like that
a lot. But yes, it is usually tears falling sometimes
(01:30:48):
because mistery you know, we'll see but I don't. I
don't take a lot of liberties with it. It's usually
pretty rigit.
Speaker 5 (01:30:56):
So I had I don't count my bahoo's this time,
but I I've seen. I think I've seen it either
nine or ten times. I saw I saw six times
in theater and a few times since, and uh, it's
it has it's now become like like for me, it
takes a lot to like physically get the tears out
(01:31:19):
like I can. I can like choke get choked up
real easy. But I was like, Adam, will you just
like kind of sit in here and take a note
every time I start crying.
Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
Just watching you like a hawk, that would take me
out of it.
Speaker 5 (01:31:35):
Be like, well, you know, he he's good about that.
He was playing a little game on his and every
time I like sniffled or something, he'd kind of look
at me in just like write it down.
Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
That's the best.
Speaker 5 (01:31:47):
But so I think there were probably moments that I,
like I was choked up, but he didn't notice or
like that tears never came out because I only had three,
And I was like, I think it's because I've seen
it so many times.
Speaker 3 (01:32:00):
That's how I am too. I think that, honestly is
how let's.
Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
Let's take it easy. I hear the saying. I hear it.
I heard normal people, is what I heard say normal.
I'm not saying you said it a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Many others would feel.
Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
Balanced people would probably responded.
Speaker 5 (01:32:26):
No, but I I I thought it would be fun
if you could guess which three got me. But I
feel like we've mentioned all of the crying moments, had to.
Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
Sure these of course these are.
Speaker 5 (01:32:42):
The three that got me, like yeah, yeah, the whole
like you said, the last half hour of the movie,
just yeah, what are the odds?
Speaker 3 (01:32:54):
Dust ballroom dance scene.
Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Yes, yep, yep, good call, good shot, good shout.
Speaker 5 (01:33:03):
It has been mentioned.
Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
I'll say that, Okay, m hm, mysel you look beautiful.
Speaker 5 (01:33:13):
No, it takes a lot, like I can't just like
a single line is.
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Not gonna make me cry a little, judge, but I
hear you.
Speaker 3 (01:33:19):
No, no, no, I wish.
Speaker 5 (01:33:22):
I wish it was that accessible.
Speaker 3 (01:33:24):
Glinda getting the cape for Elfie that's is that?
Speaker 2 (01:33:27):
K Yeah, that's what I thought to the.
Speaker 5 (01:33:32):
End of the Wizard and I no, I have in
the in the in the previous watches, I have absolutely
cried through Wizard, but this time it was no One
Wren so wicked because I'm telling you, the more you
watch this movie and the second one, that scene becomes
(01:33:53):
so much heavier, so that as probably that scene is
the only one in the whole thing that like, I
cry more every time I see it because I'm like, oh.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
I love that well very some boohoos. People cry it's
good for you. Yeah, and also seek help if you
need it, because you know, maybe you don't need to
cry all the time. I've said too much. Let's go
to some movie t rivia here. Apparently Stephen Schwartz thought
(01:34:25):
to modernize Glinda's Big Number popular by giving it more
of a hip hop style rhythm, and like you said earlier, Sammy,
Ariana Gronde was like no. She was apparently dead set
against the suggestion, and is quoted as saying, absolutely not.
Don't do it. I want to be Glinda, not Ariana
Grande playing Glinda, so good for her, that would have
(01:34:46):
been worse. I'm maybe better, but it would.
Speaker 5 (01:34:49):
Have scared me a lot, So it would have she
would have caught so much fuck for that, like as
if it was her decision.
Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
Everyone would have thought it was her idea. Everyone was yeah,
one hundred percent, let's see. As well as extensive CGI environments,
massive practical sets were built for the film's main settings.
As we talked about John Chu said that he just
wanted the world of Oz to feel like a real
place for the actors and actresses rather than just computer generated.
(01:35:18):
And this includes and we referenced this, but the number
is insane. They planted nine million tulips to serve as
part of the landscape for munchkin Land, and they did
still use video effects for some of those wider shots,
but nine million toolips were planted. Practically insane.
Speaker 5 (01:35:39):
Fun fact, it was the same man who was hired
to he grew the cornfields for Intertellar oh single.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Yeah, well they should keep doing that because it does do.
Speaker 3 (01:35:53):
It, It really does.
Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
Yeah, nine million, that's an insane number. Duo insisted on
singing live during filming, and according to director John Cheu,
he said, when we were shooting at these girls were like, naw,
screw this. Pre records we're going live, which is very
brave and cool of them. He was initially skeptical, he says,
(01:36:16):
but since there'd be a lot of wind in their
airpipes and just like a lot of moving around and singing,
and they basically were just like, yeah, that's what we do. Guy, Like,
we're gonna be okay. And I think the movie's better
for it, for sure. And it's also crazy impressive that
they did that so well.
Speaker 5 (01:36:33):
They were like, we you know, there's girls every single
night doing that in New.
Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Your City Broadway. Yeah tour, yea. But yeah, so I
just think that's really cool. The vocals for the ensemble
parts were pre recorded, and they were pre recorded by
a number of Broadway performers, including a bunch of the
alumni from Wicked on Broadway. So that's really cool. And
I think singing those live would be tough, but yeah,
(01:37:01):
so many people. Let's see, Oh, mursa bodie is it body?
So you said how you pronounced her. She's the first
person in Wicked's history that portrayed nessa Rose that actually
does use a wheelchair and has a physical disability, So
that's really cool. I thought she did a great.
Speaker 5 (01:37:21):
Job and a fact about it comes in act too.
But the reason they could never put someone on the
stage play who uses a wheelchair is because it's kind
of like an ablest storyline. She she like wants, she
like has given the power to walk. Yeah, so there
(01:37:45):
could not literally ever be in the way that the
stage play is now a wheelchair user.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
Be interesting to see what they do with that in
future like revivals now, because because the movie so you know,
kind of like the same as like, well, I think
she's just gonna be black now alfaba, right makes sense,
But yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens with that. Yeah,
it'll be neat uh Alphaba. The name of the Wicked
(01:38:14):
Witch was created by taking the phonetic pronunciation of the
original Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum's initials LFB.
That that was interesting. H To help publicize the film
on the day of its UK release, Jeff Goldbloom said
in London's is it Saint Pancras? I think that's right
(01:38:36):
International Railway Station playing the piano and drawing attention of
the surprised public and tourists. Oh cool, that'll been to
just see him out there. He's good? Yeah, is he good?
At it.
Speaker 3 (01:38:48):
He's a jazz pianist, for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
He is just the coolest man on earth. That's so cool.
Speaker 3 (01:38:55):
He's really cool.
Speaker 2 (01:38:57):
According to John Hue, several birds built in the constructed
forest set and would sing along with Cynthia Ribo when
she was performing I'm Not That Girl, to the point
that a production assistants had to project calls from birds
of prey in order to quiet the real birds down
so they could film. That's amazing.
Speaker 5 (01:39:19):
That's amazing, so great.
Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
The horse Fierro rides on this film is named Jack,
and Jack is the same horse that he rode in Bridgerton.
Apparently Jonathan Bailey felt such a good connection with Jack
that when he was making his series, he asked to
ride him again, which I think is fun.
Speaker 5 (01:39:40):
That's really cute.
Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
Good for Jack's agent. Two. The shadow that Alphaba's handmakes
when she's training with the Madame Morrible is it's an
homage to the famous photo of Margaret Hamilton from the
original list of Boss, of course, which is fun. This
is the first non Disney musical to gross over a
hundred million dollars domestically in its opening weekend. Wow weekend. Yeah,
(01:40:06):
that's crazy. That's a lot of that. That's awesome, but
they needed a lot because they had to pay for
nine million tulips at least. So during the popular song,
Glinda showcases the ruby slippers and then taps them together
three times, a homage to No Place Like Home from
the original. I also I had I don't remember if
(01:40:27):
I wrote it down or not, but the the ruby
slippers and this one are not ruby that was apparently
in the source material. They're diamond. I guess they're just
white and as part of the technicolor in the first
Wizard of Oz, they wanted to make them a color,
so they popped more, which I think is pretty fun,
and they look so good as rubies.
Speaker 5 (01:40:48):
And aside from sticking to the source text, I think
they literally don't have the rights to make them, really,
I think I I saw somebody chat about that somewhere,
like one of.
Speaker 2 (01:41:00):
The makers of the as Yeah, maybe because they wasn't
in the source but it was in the movie, so
then that's different. Maybe interesting.
Speaker 5 (01:41:08):
Yeah, So they were like, well, I guess we'll just
do what they do in the book.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
But that's cool. We talked about there was a lot
of ad libbing, which is fun and apparently in the extras,
you'll get to see a bunch of that, so go
buy it digitally if you won't do it. In order
to help the hair and makeup team, Ariana Grande bleached
her hair and her eyebrows, and Cynthia reveal, Wow, I
(01:41:33):
don't like the first one, but good for them. No,
that's pretty cool. Cynthia also wore green prosthetic ears so
that she didn't have to remove her ear rings, which
I think is pretty fun, and Ariana Grande admitted to
keeping a pair of the fake ears the ears.
Speaker 5 (01:41:57):
I did not know that.
Speaker 2 (01:41:59):
I think that's pretty silly and fun. John Chu cited
fantasy films Pleasantville and The Truman Show as influencing how
The Wicked story thematically portrays the land of Oz and
I just thought that was really cool and it played out.
After I heard that, I was like, oh, I can
see pleasant Villain there, you know, in like the way
(01:42:19):
they do things. That's really neat. According to the original
Broadway actress of Glinda Kristin Chenna, with the higher Glinda sings,
the less sincere she is during No One Warns the Wicked,
the number she sings particularly high. Take from that what
you will nessa rose is scene wearing the striped socks
(01:42:41):
with the jeweled slippers, also an homage to the original,
which is really fun. When doctor Dillmand explains to Elfabo
what's happening in Oz, he tells her that the very
old authoritarian tactic is to create a common false enemy.
As we talked about the fact that Dillomand is talking
(01:43:05):
about this, and he is a talking goat, and obviously
making a common enemy as someone to blame for something
is called a scapegoat, making them a scapegoat. So that's
just a fun little wordplay action that's happening there. And
then there's a few easter eggs that were listed in
this one referring to the original Wizard of Oz that
(01:43:26):
we haven't mentioned. In the opening shots of the film,
cameras follow the flying monkeys over a misty waterfall, creating
an aridescent rainbow, not of course, to somewhere over the rainbow.
In the opening scene, you can see Dorothy Toto, Scarecrow,
tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion walking on the yellow
brick road. Alva BoA's bicycle with a basket on the
back with the little lion cub in it is obviously
(01:43:50):
an homage to Toto being in the bicycle basket. Then
we have the ruby slippers. What else do we got?
Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
I mean, just the text that says wicked.
Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
Yeah, totally good call. And when facing the Wizard's animatronic
massive head, Alphaba is scared and begins to turn and
run the exact same way that the cowardly Lion does
in the original. So that was really fun. Oh yeah,
so that was all the ones I had. There was
a lot, rob did you have any that I didn't say?
Speaker 3 (01:44:23):
Just people that were up for other roles I saw
the Amanda Seyfried was actively pursuing the role of Glinda.
That's pretty wild and she took voice lessons to prepare.
But yeah, that didn't work out. Lady Gaga was offered
the role of Alphaba. Wow, she decided to turn it
(01:44:46):
down and play Harley Quinn and Joker fully adieu.
Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
Gross what a choice.
Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
Yeah, it didn't work out apparently. Sabrina Carpenter audition twice oh,
and said that she was physically flawless and very charismatic performer,
she didn't have the vocal range required for the role.
Renee Rapp auditioned as well.
Speaker 2 (01:45:15):
That makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:45:17):
And I'm sure there were a lot, but those were
the ones that I kind of picked out, and for Fierro,
I saw that Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, Spencer Sutherland, and
Ryan McCartin all auditioned. Mccarton portrayed Fierro in the fifteenth
anniversary cast of Wicked at the Gershwin Theater.
Speaker 2 (01:45:34):
Ah, lovely, that's cool. That's all I got.
Speaker 5 (01:45:38):
I'm glad the roles went to.
Speaker 3 (01:45:40):
Who they went to.
Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
Yeah, yeah, I hear you, Sam. Did we say any
other trivia that you have that you need to get
out or anything? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:45:51):
I got.
Speaker 3 (01:45:52):
I got a few nice I got.
Speaker 5 (01:45:56):
In keeping with the like Wizard of Oz homages in
Wizard And when she's running on that like wheat field
that goes to the cliff, she is like so excited,
which I also we don't get to see a lot
of alpha, but joy, that's why Wizard of Ice, Wizard
(01:46:17):
and I so nice to watch. But she's like so
excited and gets lifted up into the air and then
when she comes down, a bunch of bluebirds fly like
she like they were in the west And there's a
wide shot when she's jumping. I think there's a rainbow.
There's a rainbow somewhere in that sect, which I love. Also,
(01:46:39):
this is just like this is from the musical that
I did not know until I watched a video of
Stephen Schwartz explaining it that I'm not going to sing
it but unlimited.
Speaker 2 (01:46:51):
Right, Yeah, that's crazy. I heard this too.
Speaker 5 (01:46:53):
I say it unlimited My future is like those notes
are the same notes as Somewhere over the Rainbow, and
it's it's crazy because I've tried so many times as
I'm listening to sing Somewhere over the Rainbow, but it
sounds so different even though they are the same exact notes.
I guess it's because of like I don't know the
chords underneath it or something. I'm not sure, but yeah,
(01:47:15):
he was like, I kind of you're not gonna immediately,
especially if you're not musically trained. Notice that that's those
are the same notes because it sounds so different. But
I was hoping to infuse a little bit of like
a like a spark of something with those.
Speaker 1 (01:47:31):
I just love that.
Speaker 5 (01:47:32):
I love attention to detail when people are writing like that.
Oh yeah, I know, I have a Oh the flower
that Fierro puts in Ari in her hair during the
Dancing through Life sequence. She that's the one that she
puts on Alphaba at the end of Popular, which is
(01:47:58):
also like like the symbolism under there feels like about
the love that exists between the three of them, Like
he gives that to her when they're like lusting over
each other, but she gives out to her when she

actors from a film. When you know you're going to
ring in with your name. There's no negative points for
wrong answers. You just won't be able to guess again
for that movie. If their actors name is remaining, you guess.
You can guess those for a point each. If you
get any of any of those wrong, the other person
can guess for a point. All of these films have
(01:49:23):
something in common. When you know the theme ring in
at any time, you can get a point on it.
