Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shut up and welcome to.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
The Bricks King Podcast, where I'm gonna bend your you
are about Lego, review those amazing bricks of plastic and
discuss what is new and up and coming around the
Lego world. I'm your minif the ghost Matt let's belt
on it. Welcome in, everybody. How are you doing today?
You're doing well? You're feeling good, feeling all right, feeling happy, joyful?

(00:40):
Maybe not, maybe you're maybe you're having a rough day.
Well maybe for these next thirty minutes, I can take
that misery, that horrible day, that painful existence away, and
we can dive into something plastic and fun and merry
and joyful, because, believe it or not, we're gonna get
into something very merry. Piratey. Not a whole lot of death.

(01:04):
Not really any death on this one. You would think
with pirates, ah death, pillaging, cannon fire swords. Not today.
Maybe some swords, definitely pirates. So on the last episode
we were talking about one piece. We did the first
three sets. I said, oh, we're going to do the
next two. We are doing the next two. And then

(01:25):
after I went through and these were built and I
started looking and I was like, there is no earthly
way I'm going to be able to keep this under
an hour. So I decided we're going to break it
up and the bar Tee is going to get its
own episode, surely due to the fact that it's thirty
five hundred pieces. That's the biggest reason. Because there's so

(01:48):
much intricate detail that there's just so much to cover.
So today we're going to call upon the pirate ship
that Monkey de Loofy was able to acquire. Now, he
was able to acquire this from one of the characters
in the series. Her parents were shipbuilders, well, they owned

(02:10):
shipbuilding operations. They were wealthy, and he, you know, is
in his perfect worldview, I'm gonna I'm gonna take this ship.
I like this ship. He didn't technically steal it. He
was gonna steal it. He met somebody at the dock
who is one of the characters that we have seen
already and we've already discussed already, and then he went

(02:36):
forward with meeting this individual, this female and her wealthiness.
Her parents are deceased, I believe. Anyway, long story short,
everything works out. She's like, yes, you should take the ship.
So he took the ship in good standing, so he
didn't technically pirate this ship, which he's a pirate. That's

(02:57):
what you're supposed to do, so it's a little odd.
But anyway, the ship we're talking about is the going
merry pirate ship. Seventy five six thirty nine is the
set number has thirteen hundred and seventy six pieces. Yeah,
I know, it feels like it should be bigger. It
feels like there's a lot more here. Anyway, the retail
price on this thing is one hundred and forty bucks

(03:18):
into eight hundred and thirty euros. That is, that is
a hefty number considering what you're getting now. When you work,
when you work things out in your head, usually around
eight hundred, ninety hundred pieces, you know, a thousand, you're

(03:39):
more than likely looking at the one hundred dollars mark.
Anything over than that then then you really kind of
have to look at are we talking about big chunky plastic?
Are we talking about something smaller? There's a lot of
small pieces in this, not a whole lot of big
chunky stuff in here, so you're definitely getting a lot.

(04:01):
There are times, you know, you open a set and
you're like, where are my thirteen hundred pieces. There's no
way this says thirteen hundred pieces. Especially when you get done,
you're like, where did it go? If it's got big plastic,
you definitely start to feel it and you feel like
you got short change, right, Well, not the case here.
This ship feels like you're getting more than what is
actually here. So the ship itself, it is a it's

(04:24):
a merry ship, but it is quite a good ship.
It is a fun little build. I've got to admit
I had a I've built a number of ships. We've
seen everything from Ideas to Ninjogo. If you really want
to call those ships to a certain degree, they are
to Viking stuff to create a three in one stuff,

(04:46):
to you know, lego city stuff. Everybody's got a ship
or a sailboat technic. It's nice to be able to
get something like this to be able to add to
a collection. But this is more than just a display.
It is an actual play set that is themed around
the series. So I'm gonna do my best to go

(05:07):
through this. The building techniques on this were fun. It
looks like a ship should look, but you have a
lot of studs on the side building where you're building
sections of the hall. You're building sections of the side,
the aft, well not that I guess it's not called
the aft anyway, the butt end of the ship. But

(05:30):
you're building all of these things. Yes, you're stacking up
bricks and plates to a certain degree, but then you're
also stacking things sideways. Then you're tiling things sideways, and
ultimately what it leaves you with is a very clean
aesthetic on the outside with very very very very very
minimal studs, which makes it while it does look like

(05:51):
Lego having some studs and stuff like that, it definitely
feels more of like a model build kit than it
does something that you would typically build out of Lego,
out of Lego bricks. There's there's there's something about it.
The design of this, the design team in general. I
don't know who did this, but I think I think

(06:12):
we need to have an interview with him. I think
that is something that we need. So let's go ahead
and start in the front of this ship. We're gonna
kind of go all over the place. We're not going
to be like on the bottom side and stay along
the bottom and then the top side of whatever. So
but in the front of this you have a you
have a little tile shooter that is in here, and
it is nicely embedded into the into the hull of

(06:35):
the ship, into the very front, and it is underneath
the rams head. You have a brick built rams head
and you've got some stickers there for its horns. But
they also use the uh the life the life, the
round life vest type deals that have the single stud
to give it extra feeling of the horn of a sheep,

(06:57):
of a of a ram So I like the way
that that is done. It's all white. The entire thing
is white. It's a fun little addition. It looks sharp.
The deck, the very front deck is obviously simple. But
what is fun. I got to move some of these
minifigs out of the way. What is fun is you

(07:18):
can actually get into the compartment and the down underneath
the belly so that you can so that you can
play and do whatever you know you want to do.
But your stud shooter, you're probably wondering, like, well, how
how does my stud shooter work? Right? How does that
tile shooter work well? On the front of the deck,

(07:41):
just behind the rams head, figuringe figure whatever masthead, there
we go. You have this little cone that is sitting here.
It's a brown cone doesn't look like it should be here,
doesn't match the color, and it just kind of sticking
up out of the deck, like what is that fork?
So what you do is when you load your stud
or your tile into the shooter that lifts up. That

(08:04):
is when you want to shoot it. You press down.
That is how you get this thing to fire off.
It's it's a nice little simple design. It's a clean
design for the most part. And at the same time,
what it does is it accomplishes the feet right you
are shooting from the ship. It's just fun. So we've
got some railings made of the kind of some rubber

(08:25):
axles kind of going on. We've got some tubing around
the bottom side of the deck right there in the
front that are I guess supposed to be ropes or
some kind of ornamental design of of something. I'm not
really sure. But in the h in the frontier, you've
got you've got your cabin and you've got a bunch

(08:46):
of You've got a little bed that's in there. You've
got some some stickers that show some rope. You've got
some porthole stickers that are in there. You've got ah,
there's a I think it's the one piece I think
is the one piece scroll I believe is what they have.
But there's a scroll that's in here. You've got a

(09:08):
drinking cup that's in there. You've got some candles that
are in here. You've got some clips for your weapons,
which is nice. Again, it's like I've talked about with
Ninjago stuff and city stuff. When you don't have clips
for weapons, or you don't have clips for radios or
tools or implements, it sucks. You're stuck. What do I
do with it? I can't just stick it. You can

(09:29):
just stick it somewhere. You ultimately end up losing it.
It drives you insane. You can't find it, you get irritated,
and then you start yelling, right, maybe you start yelling anyway,
So that is what is in there. Now, what you
do is you step outside and then you're back into
the center of the ship on the deck. But before
we get there, up above that little room, the deck

(09:51):
piece that I took off, you have a treasure chest
and it's got some food in there. It's got a bone,
it's got a turkey leg or some kind of foul
leg that is in there. You've got a sausage that's
in there, and then you have a cup, and then
you have a bottle of whatever beverage your pirates happen
to be partaking in, usually milk on a pirate ship,

(10:12):
that's usually what I hear they drink anyway. So on
the sides, just around that area, you have some more
stickers again kind of the shell idea of you know,
almost like the ram's head, but it kind of looks
like a kant shell, which is kind of kind of
cool in its own right. You got a big one,
you got some smaller tiles for it. Then you have

(10:33):
your anchor. Your anchor is on a chain and it
is attached just by a stud to the side. It
is more for decoration than actual purpose. This entire ship
is flat on the bottom. It's just you know plates,
So your anchor does technically can work it just you know,
sits down there on the bottom. You know, if you

(10:54):
want to use it or if you do not, But
if not, you can just use this stud and stud
it back into position. So, as I was mentioning, when
you come out of that very front cabin quarter, you
step up onto the deck and you look at this
mast and there's this giant mast that is just well
bay them, just going straight up is the center line mast,

(11:16):
and it's got a giant Jolly Roger modified Jolly Roger flag.
That is Monkey de Loofy's hat that is on it,
because this is Monkey de Loofy's ship. Of course, there's
a tiny one at the very top, as there is
a tiny one at the very back mast, which we'll
talk about in a moment. But the mast itself, it's

(11:41):
typical of most other things that Lego builds tall. Instead
of it being encased with two by two rounds that
have the axle hole in the middle. There are a
few of them on the bottom there's there's three or
four of them, but the rest is just the kind
of tiny little axles that go together that attach, you know,

(12:01):
the little axel attachment pieces. So you have essentially a long,
thin brown mask that goes up that obviously attaches down
into the belly of things so that you actually have
something solid so it's not just going to go kabloom
flying off. Now, we do have these little rubberized ropes.
I've seen these usually don't see them as often with

(12:23):
the rubber. Usually it's of like the the string version
but they have a little handle holds for a minifig
hand or you know, to clip. You can put a
clip on there. You have two on each side that
go from the side of the ship up to the
mast itself. And that gives you your tensil not your
tensil strength. That gives you, you know, your strength there

(12:46):
that allows you to do whatever it does on a
on a mast on a ship. I don't know. I'm
not a sailor. I've never been a sailor, probably never
will sail. But anyway, so that is that is what
that does. You've got a tool that is out here
on the show. You got a little wrench in that area,
and you've got another tool in a little little hammer

(13:06):
or an axe. I guess you could say you've got
some a suggestion of wood with a printed tile here
for your wood out on the deck. You get a
broom here as well, and more clips for other things
again to be able to hold on to weapons and
or tools. Now, one of the other things that you
get to do here is in this section this one

(13:29):
opens as well. So what happens is you take the
top off and what do you have down inside? Well,
you've got a couple of different compartments that are down
in here, and this is this is a brick built thing.
But what you have down in here is you've got
your wanted posters. So there's four of them. I believe
that come with the set. So you have four of

(13:51):
your wanted posters that are down in there. And then
you have your various foods. You get a bag edd
you got a pretzel, you got a colored egg, You've
got some grapes, some chin an apple, banana. You know,
you got to keep your fruit. Gotta stay healthy while
you're out at sea, of course, And all that does
is you just put the top back on that, take
the top back off as you need it, as you

(14:11):
see fit, and that is all there is to that. Now,
the minute you go to step off of that deck,
you have two options. You can go down into the
back end of this or you can go up to
the back end of this. It is up to you.
Let's go ahead and go up top first. So I'm
walking up the stairs here. I've got a really decorated,
well done railing, brick built railing or brick built, not

(14:35):
just some cones with some tiles on top. Actually decoration
has some texture to it really sharpen the way that
is done. You've got the white railings across the top
on this entire ship. Some of them are just flat tiles.
Some of them is like I talked about with the
rubberized axle that we had up in the front. So

(14:56):
you stand up here on this deck and this is essentially,
you know, I guess if you will, the cabins, the
cabins the captain's quarters area roughly. So you you're standing
back here. This is now where we get into our
back the rear mast, whatever that mass is called. If
you're a sailor, you know, you probably know I do not.

(15:17):
So we've got the tiny little jolly Roger flag on top,
but then we also have this big old sale this
striped sail. It's the red and kind of a tan
color Monkey de Loofi's kind of his colors to a
certain degree that matches hat. But then you have your
little uh, your little control back here. I guess too,

(15:39):
I guess that is essentially maybe I don't, I don't
know how this works. But you've got like a little
rudder that is built in back here that is just
clipped into place. And what that does is I guess
it allows you to actually move the rudder that is
down in the very back end of the ship. In
theory again don't really know, not a sailor, but I'm
gonna I'm gonna go with that's how that works. So

(16:01):
that is elevated above your rear deck. All of that
is attached into place. It's not going anywhere. But what
is really nice when you come to the rear end
of the ship is it tapers. You get wide in
the center of the ship and then it's got this
really nice taper. Now to get that taper. What they
ended up doing is just kind of the techniques used

(16:23):
are not what I don't consider wild and crazy. There
are things that I could look at and say I
could do that, you know, use a model, you know,
follow along doing what the designers did here and kind
of make my own ship. And it's real simple in
what they did. It's essentially just not clipped. It's clipped
into place, but all it is is just a little there.

(16:48):
How can I best describe this. They're a one by
two plate. There's two of them, and they're attached so
that they can expand, so you can get like a
two by two brick or you can expand it open,
and that allows you to get different angles. I cannot
think of the life of me what that thing is called,
what that part is specifically called. But anyway, so that

(17:10):
gives you the opportunity to be able to create these angles.
When you go through and you build this further down
into the ship, before you start putting on the outside pieces,
that is where you get to see all the cool
little build designs. But on the very back end of
the ship you've got you've got some trees that are
grown back here. I'm assuming they're orange trees of some kind,

(17:31):
or maybe they're flower trees of some kind, but they
look like orange trees. I don't recall specifically them talking
about oranges. It might have been something that I'm just
glossing over at the moment, but anywaho, it is. It
is a thing that they have going on here. Alrighty,
So the next part of this, we need to get

(17:53):
down into the rear cabin quarters. Now there's a few
ways to do this. The first part of this is
the entire rear deck of this ship completely comes off.
Now when you build this, you're essentially building two tabs
into the front end of this and all that does

(18:13):
is when you go to put this back together or
to build it, those little tabs just sit down into
the deck itself and it really just sits there. It's
only held on by just amateur, tiny, tiny little stud deals.
It's not anything crazy. It's just real simple in the

(18:34):
way that it is done. Boom, it sits into place.
It's a beautiful little design. I had to go back.
I couldn't remember exactly how this, how this worked. It
was one of those things I was looking at. It
was like, I know it comes off, but just couldn't remember.
So you can take it off like that. But there's
also another section that is in the rear of this.
Remember what we talked about. I just talked about where

(18:55):
the orange trees are, So you can pull that entire
section off first, okay, And what that does is it
opens up. This just slides on rails and then it
opens up. So on the inside of this you have
a couple different things. You've got you got a spoon
and a jar. You've got some kind of gold that
is here. You've got a bucket, You've got some you've

(19:18):
got a bag that you know, sack of money. I
don't know what's in it, And then you have some
other different things. They look like potions almost they're not.
But that's essentially what you've got going on there. It
could be you know, your treasure. You're hiding your treasure, right.
You don't want somebody to find all of this wonderful,
lovely treasure. So you decide we're gonna hide it back here.

(19:40):
No one's gonna find it. They're not gonna be any
of the wiser. So you just fold that back up
and that can slide back into the tracks. Or you
do what I just did, and you pull off the
back end of the ship so that you can get
access into the kitchen, into the galley of the ship.
Now on the inside of this this is where our
new minifig character comes to play in this episode. Sanjy

(20:05):
or Sanjy or Sanjai, however you want to say it,
whatever you want to say, this is where he comes
into play. This is his specialty. He is a cook,
he is a chef. He is an amazing person for food.
This is his place to be. Now you have a
little brick built, little sofa couch that is down here

(20:26):
with a table so that you can sit and eat
We've got a lemon, a slice of lemon or orange
that is on a plate with some tea. I'm assuming
it could be the beverage. We've got some pizza on
a counter here next to our sink with a giant
cutting knife. Not really sure what that is for, but

(20:49):
I guess, you know whatever. We've got some plates that
are stacked up on the opposite side with our We've
got our cook top over here. Nice little brick built
details that are in here to make it look like
a kitchen. It's nicely done. Your salt and your pepper.
You've got a fork. You've got some stickers in here
to make it look like portholes or cabinets, you know,

(21:09):
decorative designs and such, so you have all of that.
It's a nice little area. It's not real big or
anything like that. You can have a few minifigs sit
in here and pretend they're eating, or have one that
is standing. This is the only door that actually opens
and closes on this ship. There is a door to
it that allows you to get access to the top side,

(21:33):
to the top side, to the middle section of the
ship if you want so. There's an opportunity for play
as far as kids go. For adults, this is a
really tiny space for adult hands. I have little fingers,
don't have big big hands, and I have trouble as
it is to be able to get in there and

(21:55):
really do anything. You do actually have more space on
the floor than what you would expect for something like this.
Typically with this kind of an idea, it's more of
a suggestion of this is the area where you can
go and do things. There's no doubt what you can
do in here. You actually have room to sit and
stand manifigs, So that is nice. Sometimes in the modulars,

(22:18):
you know somebody's behind a counter, for instance, and it
might just be a single stud with in there to
be able to fit them in, which is bizarre in
its own right. So anyhom we've got that in here,
and that is pretty much it for the ship. Just
some things that I want to touch on. On the side,
we've got different layers of depth to the side of

(22:42):
the ship, the different details, Like I said, some studs,
some nots. You've got tiles that are going sideways obviously,
but you definitely get some detail as far as different
plates and tiles that are used. It's just nicely done
for what it is. You know, it could be, it

(23:02):
could be so much less, and they just they just
went really above and beyond for what is what I
consider just a play set. This is a really good
play set in its own right. So you just slide
the rear end into the section and then you just
drop it like it's hot, and just drop it back
into the spot where it belongs. And that's all she wrote.

(23:23):
Then you're done. There's there's nothing else left to do. Uh.
The next time you want to bring it on out
to play with it, you just same thing, just slightly
pull back on it, just ever so gently, and out
it pops. And then here you go. You can get
back in there into your kitchen. Uh. Maybe maybe you
want to make a meal, maybe you just want to hide,
maybe you want to put the treasure in there or

(23:45):
something like that. Whatever you want to do with it.
And if you're uh, if you're a kid, you know
there's there's opportunities a plenty to play. So our minifigs,
we've got a few different minifigs that are in here.
We get Monkey Deloof again. Monkey Dee Loofy comes in
his standard garb that we talked about on the last
episode with his hat, his dull molded hat with the hair,

(24:08):
and his two faces as Smiley and his kind of
determined face that he has all throughout the series. Zoro
we get again green hair, same kind of ghee that
he's wearing with the black pants. He comes with his
two katanas and his white one as well that can
clip in around his neck, which is meant to be

(24:29):
in his mouth. Then we have Nami again, and Nomy
is in the I think it was in the second
seth that we talked about last time. I believe, maybe
it was in I don't, I don't, I don't remember. Uh.
But she is in her her garb where she is

(24:51):
wearing her or maybe no, we didn't, she didn't, she
didn't have this on anyway, so she is wearing in
this series. She he steals, she knocks out a pirate
and takes his clothing and he's I think he was
a marine. I remember we talked about the people on
the high Seas that are basically the police of the

(25:12):
of the water of the high Seas. Takes his clothing
and is wearing that. But she's wearing her orange bottoms. Here,
she's got her staff, she got the orange hair, she
got an angry face and a happy face. Then we
move along and I, for the love of me, I
was like, I know, I know this is different. And
sure enough it was U SAP with usap what we

(25:36):
got last time. He was wearing his green you know,
hair hat thing that He's got his bandana that he
had on. He's got his dual molded with the dreads.
This one is pink, so more of more of a
salmon pink color. He's got his satchel as well, and
he's got his wonderful little green slingshot. And the difference

(25:59):
here is he is wearing two different versions of clothing
from what he wore on the last one to this
where he's more in the all brown decked out in brown,
more of like a traditional I guess pirate attire. I
guess you could say maybe something like that. And then
we move on to Sangi and Soanji is in the movie.

(26:24):
He he's a kid. That he's a kid that we're
gonna talk about it on the next set. I don't
want to. I don't want to divulge at detail yet. Anyway,
he is your chef, he is your dude in the
kitchen in the galley. He comes with his blonde hair
parted in the front. He's got a smiley face with
an open mouth and a smiley face with a closed mouth.

(26:45):
He's wearing all black. He's wearing a suit in this
one with a tie. That is him, that is them.
Those are your minifigs. That is your ship. What do
you think? Well, I think it turned out pretty well.
I know a bunch of people are say, oh, the price,
the price. We're gonna stay away from the price. And
the reason I say that shearly simply due to the

(27:07):
fact it's a really well done ship. It feels like
it could have some more. It feels like there's more
opportunities in the belly of the ship to be able
to do some things. There's really not. It's not like
you've got these pieces that are crossing over, you know,
these cross members or anything like that that you've really
got to worry about. You've got your walls to your

(27:28):
separate cabins. There's really not a whole ton of other
room to be able to put a lot of different things.
You know, we've got two different spots where it's open
to the bottom, and then you have the rear that
pulls off, the entire rear pulls off. I know some
people were gonna say, well, I wish we got something
I don't. I don't. I honestly don't know. I don't

(27:49):
really know what else could have been added to this
other than just given the opportunity to maybe allow it
to float. We we know that's not gonna happen. Unless
it's a solid hauled ship. That's not gonna happen. Now.
I would like to see in the future and I
know this isn't gonna be cheap, and then you're gonna

(28:10):
be like, oh, it's why it's two hundred dollars. What
if Lego came up with a way they don't need
to build ships all the same size. They can be
different sizes. So, for instance, with Lego City, those ships
can float even if it's a big ship or a
smaller ship, because they already have this solid piece, the

(28:32):
solid mold that allows them to be able to do that.
To the big cargo ships, the big container ships, the
big I don't know, fireboats and stuff like that. What
if we had that opportunity with something like this little, smaller,
little slender Now the issue would be they would have
to justify the cost of creating the piece, designing the piece,

(28:56):
molding the piece, mass producing the piece. What are you
gonna use it for. There's only so many things that
you could use for. Oh but you could use it
for this, or you could use it for that. You're right,
but it's almost like it's too much of a specialty.
So I don't ever think we'll see outside of like
Lego City and probably some technique, maybe to a certain degree,
things that can float, just due to sheer fact that

(29:19):
he this is a place set could float. But it's
a play set. And it's also you don't have a
single molded hole piece just for this ship, and that's
all comes down to. It all comes down to the
playability of this thing. I think is quite good. They
spend a good amount of time on the ship in

(29:39):
the series, so you kind of have your base. This
is essentially your base of operations for the kids, for
the kids, whatever age they are in this series. So
again play idea. Right there, you have your your good
guy's ship. We need more bad guys stuff. It needs

(30:00):
to be a thing. We're getting one with the next
the next set we're gonna talk about, but we need
more bad guy vehicles and things like that. In this
case though, it's a solid it's a solid addition for
what the theme has become to this point. I know
it's growing in popularity based on something that I was

(30:20):
reading about the well maybe not the sets in general,
but about the series. So the popularity is there. Just
continue to give us some more plastic products, you know,
give us some more things, give us more options, more
things to play with, different things to try. It'll just
it'll be fine, it'll be fun. So my score on this,

(30:41):
aside from the fact that it can't float, which I'm
okay with, I'm gonna go eight point nine. I'm gonna
go eight point nine because I think the minifigs are good.
This is out of the first three sets. Okay, you're
getting a repeat Monkey de Loofy, and you're getting a
repeat in Zoro. But you're getting three exclusive minifigs here. Okay,

(31:02):
you're getting well, okay, you're getting essentially two exclusive to
this point, well three to this point.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
No me.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Okay, we have Sanji and then we have you Sap,
You stops in his different clothes, nam he's in her
different clothes, and Sonji. This is the first time that
we're seeing him. We are going to see Sonjy again,
but it's going to be different. So Sanji is unique
to this set. This version of him is only in
this set. So it's something to keep in mind, especially

(31:32):
for resale value. For instance. You know some people are like, oh,
you know, I could do that, it'd be wonderful. Yeah,
it's something to think about, honestly, But eight point nine
that's my value. I think as a whole, it encompasses
what I want. It's a play centric build. Minifigs are fun.
You get a five of them, right, you get a

(31:55):
plethora of different things to be able to do all
good guys. So there is that The tiles I had
a number of repeat tiles do not have all the tiles.
We'll talk about that on the next episode. I have
some thoughts on the tile situation because I definitely think
I definitely think something moving forward needs to be done.

(32:16):
If they're going to bring it back and do like
a wave two for season two, I think something needs
to be done about that. So that's your ship. That's
your Mary Ship. Now you get to go play and
have fun and do whatever else you were doing. I
know you were building with Lego and that is a
good thing. So until we meet again, i'm your minifiguels Matt.

(32:36):
Let's build on it.
