Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shut up and welcome to the Bricks King Podcast, where
I'm gonna bend your ear about Lego review those amazing

(00:23):
bricks and plastic and discuss what is new and up
and coming around the Lego worlde I'm your manifing host Matt.
Let's build on it. Welcome in, everybody. How are we today?
We have got some funky fun stuff to talk about,
and I am talking about the new Lego Ideas reveals.

(00:51):
Oh my goodness, is it ever so sweet, awesome and amazing.
There are a ton of news sets that are going
to be coming our way very I say very soon,
within the next year, at some point in time. But
my goodness, do we have a lot to talk about.

(01:12):
There were a just oodles oodles of sets to choose from.
There were fifty seven. Now it hasn't been the biggest.
I believe the biggest was what eighty something in the past.
Believe it or not. The new review period coming up
next has one hundred forty six, one hundred forty six

(01:35):
of them. I don't you watch It's going to end
up being something where they choose like one out of
one hundred forty six. I could see it happening. I could.
I can really see it being a thing, and everybody
kind of be like, what on earth, come on, man,
are you serious? You only choose? But uh yeah, so
let's go ahead and talk about some of these. Well,

(01:56):
we'll talk about all of them. We got eight projects coming,
and all eight of them, okay, almost all eight of
them are awesome in my opinion. They're all really well
done in their own rights. But let's go ahead and
kick it off with the Daft Punk concert by Robot Brick. Now,

(02:22):
these kind of sets in the past, I've kind of
sat back and I was like, well, I don't really
know that this is gonna work. We've seen some band
stuff before, We've seen some television show stuff before, and
it's just kind of been like, oh, yeah, I could
see how everybody sees that. I could see what everybody thinks,
but is it really gonna work? Now? The interesting thing

(02:47):
about this deal is just the sheer fact that it's
just it's colorful, it's exquisite. I don't I'm assuming we're
gonna get a light motion going on with this like
it has in the uh in the uh, the original
submission design, the look of it. If it does, okay,

(03:10):
that'd be neat. Some of the things though that I
don't like about it, just initially is some of the
tediousness of all those bars and stuff like that that
are coming together. I get it, I see it. I
don't hate it. It's just kind of like, ah, right now.
The question to me and for you, who who's going

(03:32):
after something like this? Is it a daft punk fanatic? Sure?
Is it somebody that just wants something different? Maybe? But
who who is the targeted audience? That's what I want
to know, because it's not me. I'm a music ye
music e I'm a music lover to a certain degree.
But I'm not gonna, you know, some of the bands

(03:54):
that I listened to, I'm not gonna go pick up
a lego set that has to do with them. Maybe
somebody will, Maybe somebody is. It's obviously popular enough to
get ten thousand votes to be able to even get,
you know, added onto the list of things. But I
don't know. I don't know who the target audience is.
Another one that was selected, The Old Man and the

(04:16):
Sea by Eon Ha. When this came about, I wanted
this immediately. I wanted this to be selected. I wanted
to have it. It is there's so much going on.
There's so much depth to this. I don't know enough
art terms and stuff like that, but things in the foreground,

(04:38):
things in the background. There's just so much here. The
structure alone is just exquisite. It's meant to look like
a book is folded open and the story is like
a pop up book idea behind it. This is gonna
be This is gonna be a fun set to build.
It's gonna be a fun set to just kind of display.

(05:01):
I know some people are gonna probably say, oh, yeah, well,
you were just talking about where are you gonna put this.
I already know where I'm gonna put this. I already
know it's an easy one for me. Another one here
is Downton Abbey the High Claire Castle by bro three.
I don't know anything about this television show. I literally

(05:21):
know naa. I know it's popular. I don't know if
it's still on. But you're getting a bunch of minifigs.
It looks like which is okay. This building looks really
really really big, just you know, getting a rough idea
of scale of it. It's gonna be an expensive set.

(05:43):
We're probably looking at modular price three hundred four hundred bucks.
I could see. Now obviously it's gonna go through its
design phase and then it's gonna get you know, picked
apart and then put back together, and so we'll be
curious to see. I'll be curious to see what that
looks like. One of the most unique builds has to

(06:06):
be by Mick Dudd. It's called Ramen. It is Ramen.
It's it's so simplistic, but yet it's not. There's texture
galore here with the little matt, the little plate slash
bowl that is brick built, the ramen, with all the
ingredients that are in it. I mean, there's so much here,

(06:30):
the chopsticks, There's just oodles of things to go here.
This is another one of those things. Though, who who
is going after this? Who is who is the the
main focus? This looks like could be a really fun build. Again,
some tediousness here making the ramen. But where's where's the intrigue?

(06:56):
I personally don't see it. This does not do it
for me. This does not get me excited, This does
not take all my fancy, This does not you know,
jumpstart my engine. This doesn't do anything for me. I
think it's great looking, but I just I'm sure the
build is fun as can be. The design is great.

(07:17):
I just can't see how somebody's gonna walk down an
aisle at a Target or a toy store or the
Lego story and say I need that. I just don't
see it. I think this could be a fun design
piece to be able to put on a shelf, maybe

(07:40):
in some way shape or form, put it under glass,
maybe on a coffee table. Maybe, I'm not real sure.
I don't know another one. It was selected Smurf Village
by the half Blood Baron. We are getting Smurfs, thank god,
and finally we are getting smurfs. This, yes, will have

(08:00):
nostalgia central for me. It's not gonna be a ten,
I can tell you right now it's not gonna be
a ten on my score chart because that is really,
really highly rare and unlikely. But man, the minifigs alone
are gonna be worth so much money in the future.

(08:21):
This looks great. You have a bunch of different Smurf huts.
You've got a little some scenery builds here of the
Smurf village. I might have to go watch some Smurfs now,
you know Smurf. Yeah, I can't remember what movie that's wrong.
But yeah, anyway, so we're getting Smurfs. I'm loving it.

(08:41):
That's McDonald's another one. The funny thing about this is
we just the episode for Gizmo is already out, and
we had just talked about Steven Spielberg just said about
Stephen's Spielberg, and we talked about the PG thirteen rating

(09:03):
and the violence of the movie. Obviously this is not
violent that we're about to talk about. But we had
a Steven Spielberg movie set come out. What last year
with the Jaws, We've got one with giz and now
we've got Et the Extraterrestrial from Lafa Brick. Hello. Now,
the interesting thing was this was one ET set that

(09:25):
was chosen out of two that were submitted, and we'll
talk about those. We'll give a rundown of some of
the things that weren't chosen that I just in general
that wasn't chosen, and then some things that I think
probably could have made it. But this, the other build,
is cool because it's more of a scenery build. This
is just Et holding the flower pod. He's got the
little the glowing finger on here out Et phone home.

(09:49):
You know you've got all of that. I will be
curious to see what happens when this hits the design team.
The potted plant flowers that are here are really just
just shiny, cool idea behind it. I don't really just
seeing the flowers. The petals that are done on these

(10:12):
flowers are just it's such a different take on a flower.
I mean, it's it's in you know what anti studs
that you're seeing. It's I'm really curious to see how
this is gonna come about. I can't wait. The printing
of the eyes is gonna be very important. I think,

(10:32):
just like we talked about with giz With Gizmo, you're
gonna need to nail the eyes. If they can nail
the eyes, I think this can really really do well.
Oh something else, I noticed his little the little trans
red for his little glowing heart area. That's cool. Oh
I see some I see some pins. I see some

(10:54):
dark blue gray sticking out. Okay, it's not the end
of the world. Maybe we can find a way to
work around that something. So we've got a few more
left to talk about, So let's move on to one
of my favorites. I did vote for this one without
a doubt. There were a number of these that made

(11:15):
it that I voted for. But The Golden Girls by
Martin Studio or maybe it's Martine Studio. We've seen some
film sets before, some filming sets, some location sets, that
kind of thing. I am really blown away by this
one personally. The cameras. I understand why they do the cameras.

(11:40):
I would probably take mine off. I know this is
going to sound really weird. I love The Golden Girls
the show. I love it. I loved it when I
was a kid. I love it now as an adult
in my early forties. Doesn't matter. I love everything about it.
It's such great writing, it's such good act thing is

(12:00):
such wholesome content. There's so much here. The minifigs, oh
my gosh, the minifigs, Oh my goodness, the minifigs. So
it's it's gonna be good. It's gonna be a fun
Who would have thought taking and creating a show around

(12:21):
four elder women and doing gangbusters, just blowing the ratings
out of the park. Who would have thought back in
the time, whoever whoever walked into that meeting, that production
meeting and pitched and said, let's do a show. It's
like with Seinfeld, let's do a show. About nothing. Right,

(12:42):
this is let's do a show about ladies that are
almost retired, or are retiring, or are retired, and let's
have it be about all four of them and their
mom's gonna live with them. What like? What, There's no way,
there's no way. Somebody's gonna sit in there and say, oh, yes, absolutely,

(13:04):
there's just no way. But it did. It worked. Somebody said,
you know what, let's greenlight this. Let's green light this.
Let's see what happens. You know, I still cannot believe
it happened, but I'm thankful it did. All right down
to the last two. The penultimate selection here was La

(13:26):
Katrina by Yop one one, seven to two. My goodness,
the Da de las Muertos the Day of the Dead.
This doll in a sense, if you want to call
it that, I'm gonna call it a doll. This is perfect.
This is gonna be great. I hope this. I hope
this releases next year October first. That would be perfect.

(13:51):
It would go well with you know, Halloween slash November first,
for a Day of the Dead. It would be exquisite
to have that. Build is phenomenal. There's so much different
depth and texture here. There's just a lot. I really
cannot wait to see what this final build looks like.

(14:12):
I'll be curious to see size. I'll be curious to
see price. It's really hard to kind of determine where
this goes, but I definitely want to see size. Or
we talk in something that's gonna be foot tall, we
talk in something that's gonna be six to seven inches tall.
Obviously it's gonna be taller than seven inches without a doubt,

(14:33):
but I'm really curious to see scale wise what this
looks like. And we move on to Go Go Power
Rangers Lego Megazord by Truman Bricks. Truman Bricks has endless
selections that are always in. I swear, whoever that person
is has like five submissions going at any one time,

(14:58):
and there's a bunch it didn't get chosen. Truman Briggs,
you are my new hero, my new buddy, my new pow,
my new friend. We need to talk this quintessential nineties
right here. The Super Sentai show that it is modeled after,
Believe it or not, is actually being canceled. Canceled, it's

(15:18):
going off the air after fifty years. We're not going
off the air. They're not making new seasons after fifty
years of it. That is what Power Rangers has been
modeled after forever. We got Voltron before, we've gotten transformers.
It's only natural that we got this. I figured it
was only a matter of time before we saw a

(15:40):
Power Ranger submission and something actually gets selected that was
quality enough to get selected. This is it. You get
your five minifigs of your five traditional original Power Rangers.
You get the traditional original Megazord. I just wish this
would be able to transform. That's really all I would care.

(16:02):
I wish it could transform. That'd be so cool. I
would love now with this. They had to get the IP.
You have to get the IP to be able to
do this. I don't know who owns it anymore. It
was Sabon Entertainment. I don't know if they still are
the ones that are in charge. Whoever owns the IP,

(16:24):
please do a deal with Lego, the Lego groups so
that we can get more Power Ranger sets. I want
the Dragons Ord. I want the Dragons Ord, and I
want Tommy. I want the Green Ranger. My goodness, this
is sharp, so this will be a fun build. This
is a day one without a doubt for me. So
those are your sets that are going to be coming

(16:47):
sometime in the next I would say twelve to fifteen
months is when those will be popping out. Obviously eight
is quite a few. It's going to be quite a
few to come our way. So one of the things
that I did is I decided to go back and
look and I wanted to see what else was out
there in this review period and what else did not

(17:09):
get chosen. So one of them was the Taylor Swift
lover House did not get chosen. It's probably the fiftieth
submission on here. Maybe more. I'm not sad that you
can get chosen. Medieval Night by Truman Bricks. Of course
it's by Truman Bricks. This is sharp. This is one

(17:33):
that I wanted to see. Make it with the horse
with the night that is on it. That would have
been sharp to see. Nice little display would have been fun.
The juke box with bluetooth speaker. Neat needs some work.
Love enlighten me. The bench of the lamp posts and love.

(17:54):
This was kind of neat. This is too, kind of kitchy.
I think there's a there's a special crowd that you
need to be able to have this. I don't know
that it's there. Twice fancy. Don't know what this is.
It's okay, I guess. I don't know if this is
a band. It looks like a band of some kind.

(18:17):
I think there needs to be more work done. Portal too, core,
replacement station. This is sharp looking in the way that
it looks. I just don't know that it has an audience.
No leonor Boeing seven three seven dash two hundred by
design and create. It's cool. You get a little forklift,

(18:38):
you get your plane. It's too it doesn't, it doesn't.
I think there's something missing. I'm not quite sure what
it is, but there's something missing. Heart stopper, be yourself.
I don't know what that is. A little scene here,
a little vignette. It's okay looking again, don't really know
what the audience is. The fresh Prince of bel Air,

(19:00):
the Bank's mansion, another set, movie set, TV set, film set, stage,
sound stage, whatever you're gonna call it. With all the
minifigs of the characters and stuff, this would be cool.
I think this would be fun. Leaves some things to
be desired. I definitely think there's some revisions that can
be done to improve on it. But as a whole.

(19:23):
I do like it. I would get it. Lego DNA
two point zero, the Double Helix History by DNA Double Helix.
Of course, this is neat. I believe there's motion in
this that would be cool. I just I think there's

(19:43):
just too much going on there. I just don't foresee
that being a thing. The mushrooms collection. This is okay,
it's neat. This would go under botanicals pretty well. I'm
always up for some fungi because I'm a fun guy.
You know, I made myself laugh. You better have laughed,
I'm telling you right now. The Ancient Roman Temple. This

(20:07):
is a pretty cool build, playing so much Assassin's Creed
into different time periods. I would love this. This would
be a neat little thing. You could throw this in
the middle of your Lego city or something like that,
you know, a blast from the past kind of thing.
Time traveled there. The next one here is a censor debica.

(20:27):
I believe that's what it is. I'm a little tram
car going through the city. It's kind of cool looking,
going on in an angle. Little kind of a vignette here.
The car is really cool. The electric electric train car
there is pretty neat r NL I Shannon Class lifeboat
by the Cranky Buffalo. I like the way this looks.

(20:50):
This would be fun. The little transport that it comes
with as well, it's just too naked. There's too many
things that the boat looks really good. That transp just
looks really naked. Definitely some work it needs time. The
Roman Bath. This one is cool as well well. Time
period piece here a little bit drab with the coloring

(21:13):
and stuff. I'm sure there's a way that that could
be adjusted. I don't know that the design team moving
forward would jump on that though. The Apple Store by
Truman Bricks. This is cool. This is not bad looking.
The only thing that I thought about this was it's
sure you have to get Apples buy in with this,

(21:34):
but I expect more from Truman Bricks. I expect more detail.
This seems below them. It's okay in my opinion. The
Ohio State University Marching Ban. It says Ohio State University
Marching Band. If anybody knows anything when they talk about

(21:55):
Ohio State, it's the Ohio State. So how can you
get that wrong? Some instruments that are built here and
in your little I guess you're band director now I
guess it's a drummer here. It's cool looking, just not
gonna work. The periodic table of elements. This is neat,
just too many tiles, Bob Ross. The joy of building

(22:19):
this one would be one that I would love. I
know somebody in mind that would. I would pick this
up and hand it to a heartbeat. You also get
some painting brushes here and then his little scraper thing
that he uses to mix paint. Civil engineering types of bridges, bridges,
revisited bridges did That's what it is, a couple of

(22:44):
different bridges and stuff here. It's okay again, it's gonna
be a weird group that you're gonna have to get
to go with. That kinetic tin toy. This is cool,
old old school toy there. Billy big mouth, Billy bass.
If this actually does move and they can get it

(23:05):
to move, that would be awesome. I don't know if
it actually does or not. Appa the sky Bison. It's
kind of cool looking, pretty big build the Mediterranean Restaurant.
I can see something like this going on the Brick
Link Designer program. The Halloween House voted for this. Want it?
This reminds me of the old the Mansion what was it?

(23:29):
Monster House was a monster house the Monster series the
Monster Fighters, I think is what it was. But the
monster series that Lego used to have, That's what this
reminds me of. Maybe that's what they did. Maybe he
took the set and just modified it a little bit.
Either way, I'm still in. Here's one that I wanted
because it reminded me of the mini plants that we

(23:49):
got with the Botanical Collection, the jellyfish collection. This is cool.
I still think there's potential here for this, potentially in
thet go Round. There's some pieces here that are gonna
have to get designed that I don't believe that are
in the Legos category right now. If they can manage

(24:10):
to do that, I think it'll happen. Disney's Phineas and
ferb doofin Smertz Evil Incorporated. Okay, cool. Peter Rabbit and
the Garden. This is interesting because there is a tunnel underneath.
You can actually see the tunneling of Peter Rabbit. That
is kind of cool. Junkyard with working magnet crane that

(24:33):
is fun. Just a bunch of stacked up broken cars.
You get a tow truck that looks like toe Mater
and modeled after Toe Mater. That could be a fun
little deal. Muppets, Stateler and Waldorf balcony key rack. This
is Kenny Neat. I'd put my keys on that e
t the extra tresh orail. Like I said, this is

(24:54):
your kind of your little senior vignette. They're in the
forest and then you see the bicycle goal shadow going
over the moon, the holiday rose Hill Cottage. This is
from Martin Studio as well. Okay, it's neat. Maybe in
the future. Coraline the Pink Palace. This is kind of
cool looking in its own right. I don't know anything

(25:16):
about Coraline, but this is this is kind of cool looking.
Brooklyn ninety nine by Ben Fenk. How many Brooklyn ninety
nine's are we going to see before they finally choose one?
I'm serious? How many? This is like the Taylor Swift
House that we have talked about endlessly, that we've seen endlessly.

(25:38):
I don't know that it's gonna happen. The Mini Moog
analog synthesizer. I'm up. This is up my alley. I
want to say the Mini Moog. I want to say
this is what was used to make the theme. I
just I just saw a video on this the other day.
I think for the original Super Mario, I believe as

(26:00):
how they did the sounds and stuff like that. I
think Booknook Story Laboratory. This is kind of cool. That
could be fun. But again, that's gonna be a little
shelf piece for you to have working cuckoo clock. I
wanted this. There's potential there, maybe in the future. How
I Met Your Mother again, another little set here. We've
seen a number of those. Don't think it's gonna happen.

(26:22):
The Art of Japan This I could see this being
getting another shot in the future. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
This one is neat. There are two of them that
are included in this wave of you know, selections and
stuff like that. You have the vehicle with the Christmas tree,
you have Uncle Eddie's r V, and then you have

(26:46):
the house. The house is okay, it's a different take
on it. Not my favorite by by far. Grand Central
Station again something I think this is gonna end up
as a bricklink designer program type deal. The Grizzwold Family
Christmas House. This one is more up my alley. The
RV is a little bit better. The house is covered
in snow the trees. This works for me. I like

(27:09):
the way this is done and the or you know what,
the house is not covered. I don't think it's meant
to be snow. I think it's meant to be all
the little lights and he has on the house Scooby
Doo Ravenswood Mansion V. Two. This is cool looking. Scooby
do stuff is gonna be hard, I think to get

(27:31):
by Gilmore Girls stars Hollow. Sure at some point, yes,
something like this is gonna make it. I don't know
if it's gonna be the Gilmore Girls, it's it's got potential.
I think the right audience needs to jump behind it.
I think there needs to be a big outcry for it.
Stonewall National Monument in New York. I don't know anything

(27:52):
about this. I've never heard of this before. But okay,
Paddington Bear, that could be fun. And this one that
I liked, Pixar's Pizza Planet truck. Doesn't quite look like
it needs to be revisited, but it is pretty cool looking.
It's a big bill and it's going to be expensive.
Mary Poppins back to Cherry Tree Lane. I don't think.

(28:17):
I don't think we'll ever see something like that the
world of Studio Ghibli. I think it's how you say it,
this one very fantastical. I don't know anything about this.
I don't know what genre this comes from. I don't
know what country this originates from East Asia somewhere of
some sort. Based on some of the buildings and such,

(28:38):
it's an interesting piece. It almost it's almost kind of kitchy,
similar to the Italian Riviera. I could see something like
this coming about in the future without a doubt. So
that is it. We touched on everything that is out
now well out that was selected, touched on a bunch

(28:58):
of them that weren't, you know, out of what what
did I say fifty seven, so forty nine got chosen
or forty nine did not get chosen. There were some
here that definitely have that ability moving forward. You know,
the cuckoo clock, like I had mentioned, without a doubt,
I think should be something that needs to be looked at.
The jellyfish, in my opinion, I think the jellyfish are

(29:20):
pretty cool. There's a lot of things I can see
ending up is the Bricklink Designer program, but there's also
a lot of things that you know, I'm not trying
to pooh poo on anybody's parade, but there's a lot
of things that need to go back into the workshop
and adjust. Because if you look at what got chosen,
and they chose a bunch of different things, but if

(29:41):
you look at a lot of the things that got
chosen and then you look at some of the things
that didn't get chosen and you compare, it's like, yeah,
you might have some work ahead of you to be
able to make it so the next review period. I'm
not sure. I don't have that in front of me
at the moment, but that'll be clo using with one
hundred that well, that'll one hundred and forty six, it's

(30:03):
not closing, it's already closed. One hundred and forty six
up for review. That is going to be wild. One
hundred and forty six. We probably honestly need to go
through and just kind of talk about some of them.
That's probably going to be God, it's gonna be a
long episode or maybe a two parter for something like that,

(30:25):
but most definitely really really really fun stuff to see
in there. There's a lot in that one hundred and
forty six project selection. It's just a matter of where
does the design team elect to go. I mean we're
seeing new things that are going to be coming in
the next like I said, year to fifteen months timeframe ish.

(30:47):
With the all the Lego Ideas projects coming, that is
going to be fun. I can only imagine what comes
off of the back of one hundred and forty six.
Even if they choose another five. You're talking a lot
coming very very very soon. So that's gonna wrap up
this episode. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Think about

(31:08):
what you're gonna be uh looking for? What are you
excited for the most? Which of these projects that got
selected are you excited the most about that? You're like, yes,
day one, this is for me. You know, the the
