guys, let's get into it.I'm gonna be sharing an article that

(05:40):
I got from the New York Timescame out September one. I'll give credit
to Dana G. Smith. Soapparently these might have been out for a
little bit now, these new COVIDvariants, but starting to hear rumors at
the MASK mandates are I'm back andpossibly lockdowns and all that bullshit again.

(06:03):
So I'm not too familiar up todate on these new variants, So we're
gonna learn about this together and seewhat they're all about. So what we
need to know about the new COVIDvariants. Concern is rising about the COVID
nineteen variants EG five and b Atwo eighty six. In August, EG

(06:26):
five became the dominant variant in theUnited States, and the World Health Organization
classified it as a variant of interest, meaning it has genetic changes that give
it an advantage and its prevalence isgrowing. B A two eighty six is
much less widespread makeup, making uponly a tiny fractional cases, but scientists

(06:49):
are learned by how many mutations itcarries. So how worried should people be
about these variants? Talk about EGfive first, while severe illness and older
adults and people with underlying conditions,it's always a concern, as is long

(07:11):
COVID and anyone who gets infected.Experts say EG five does not pose a
substantial threat, or at least nomore of one than any of the other
major variants currently in circulation. It'sa concern that it's increasing, but it
doesn't look like something that's vastly differentfrom what's already been circulating in the US

(07:32):
for the past three to four months. Said Andrew Picos, a professor of
molecular microbiology and immuno immunod I cansay the word immunoology at John Hopkins University
Bloomberg School of Public Health. SoI think that's what tempers might concern about
this variant at this point in time. Even the WHO stated in its announcement

(08:00):
that based on the available evidence, the public health risk posed by EG five
is evaluated as low at the globallevel. The variant was identified in China
in February twenty twenty three and wasfirst detected in the United States in April.
It is a descendant of the omicronvariant XBB one nine two and has

(08:24):
one notable mutation that helps it toevade antibodies developed by the immune system in
response to earlier variants and vaccines. That advantage maybe why EG five has become
the dominant strain worldwide, and itcould be one reason COVID cases have been
rising again. That mutation may meanthat more people are susceptible because the various

(08:50):
virus can escape a little bit moreof that immunity, doctor Pico said.
But EG five, which also hasbeen called eiris, does not appear to
have any new capacities when it comesto its contagiousness, its symptoms, or
its likelihood of causing severe illness.Diagnostic tests and treatment such as paslovid continued

(09:11):
to be effective against it, doctorPico said. Now, doctor Eric Taupel,
executive vice president of Script's Research inLa Jala, California, said he
isn't overly worried about the variant. However, he would feel better if the
new vaccine formulation, which is expectedto be rolled out in the fall,

(09:33):
was already available. Here we goagain. The updated booster was developed based
on another variant that is genetically similarto EG five. It is expected to
provide better protection against EG five thanlast year's shot, which targeted the original
coronavirus strain and a much earlier omicronvariant that is only distantly related. My

(10:01):
main concern is for the people athigh risk, doctor Tobele said. The
vaccines that they've had are too farremoved from where the virus is right now
and where it's going. Gotta getyour boosters. So that's EG five.
What about this BA two eighty six. The other new variant that scientists are

(10:22):
watching closely is B A two eightysix, nicknamed parola, descended from a
different omicron variant. B A twoeighty six has been definitively tied to twenty
nine cases of COVID across four continents, but experts suspect it is more widespread

(10:43):
now. Scientists are particularly concerned aboutthis variant because of the number of mutations
it carries. Many of them arein the spike protein, which is what
the virus uses to infect human cellsand what are immune systems used to identify
it now. According to Jesse Bloom, a professor at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer

(11:03):
Center who specializes in virus evolution, mutations in B A two eighty six represent
an evolutionary jump similar in size tothe changes in the first omicron variant compared
to the original coronavirus strain now.Data recently released on x formally known as

(11:24):
Twitter, by scientists and China showedthat BA two eighty six is so different
from previous versions of the virus thatit easily escapes antibodies produced in response to
earlier infections, even more than EGfive does now. The data, which
have not yet been published or peerreviewed, suggests that the updated vaccine will

(11:48):
be less effective against it two,but before you despair. The research also
indicates that BA two eighty six maybe less infectious than other variants. Those
studies conducted in cells and a labdon't always correspond to how I virus behaves
in the real world. Now,one possible scenario. One possible scenario is

(12:15):
b A two eighty six is lesstransmissible than current variants and so never spreads
widely, doctor Bloom wrote in anemail to The New York Times. However,
there's also a chance that the variantwill spread widely, and it will
just have to wait for more datato know. Well, there you go.
That's the new variants coming down thepipe. So I don't know what

(12:41):
this means. Like I said,I'm hearing rumors about mass mandates coming back.
So who knows? This might beround two pandemic number two. I
think the first one is just atest. It's just to see if people
would fall in line. I don'tknow, but either way, there you
have it. Let that marine inyour medulla. Oblan gatta for a minute

(13:03):
at the mass mandates, social distancingat lockdown start happening again. Just don't
comply. We have the power, not them, all right, guys,
Until next time, be safe,
