welcome this gentleman back to the program. Talking about the new movie The Painter,
which is available on vod right now. One of the stars of the
film joins us, mister John Voight. John, how are you doing,
sir. I'm doing good. I'mdoing good. You know. First off,
I love this movie. It wasso much fun to watch. And
these are the kind of thing Ifeel like they don't make enough anymore.
(02:01):
It's just a it's an easy story. It's a fun watch. You can
not have to think about all theproblems going on in the world and just
enjoy a fun film. Did youenjoy this film? Yeah, that's right,
exactly right. Description is right. It's a fun film. It's it's
a who've done it and it's ayou know, it's a lot of action
(02:25):
and the twists and turns and stuff, and it's it's a lot of fun.
And the performers are great, youknow, Charlie Webber and Madison Bailey
just terrific people. Lots of action. So anyway, I agree with you,
a lot of fun. Yeah, and and and I don't want to
(02:46):
give too much a way about themovie, but I really recommend everybody go
see it because there's a lot offun to watch your character in the film.
I felt like, you know,we talked about how fun the movie
is. I felt like you hadfun with this character even from the opening
scene throughout the rest of the film. It's a real fun role for you.
I would think, Yes, itwas, uh huh. And I
(03:07):
tried to you know, you wantto it's I don't want to talk too
much about it because it'll spoil it. I don't want to get into it
because the fun of it is inthe in the plot too. You don't
know, you really don't know whereyour footing is in this picture. You
know, you'll get an indication ofsomething here, something their clue and then
(03:30):
finally you find out, you know, in the end, where all the
pieces fit. So it was funto try to do that, you know,
to try to help that disguise anddifferent things and never let it be
anything but offended to Is that whatI guess you look for? You know
(03:52):
now, when, because I'm sureyou're all for films all the time,
you get a lot of scripts thatpassed through. Is that what you look
for? Something that engages you ina lot that you think, oh,
that's a new challenge. Well,it's a nice one. Every every part
I ever get the challenge to me. So and at this time, you
(04:14):
know, you look in the mirrorand say, well, I'm now I'm
this kind of guy. What canI play? And what I've been asked
to play recently are the guys whohave a little gravitas and and you know,
the the the older, wiser personoccasionally. But anyway, so each
(04:40):
part is new. You know,I've never done this before, so this
will be fun. Let's try this. That's the way it is. Yeah,
I've heard you say before you approachevery role like a clean slate,
and they all all for a uniquechallenge. Was there anything a unique challenge
I guess about this film in particularthat stands out well again, I don't
(05:03):
want to, right, I hearyou reveal the plot, so uh,
but there's a lot of there's alot of fun, and it's it's a
it's a it's a dance, youknow. It's like you think this is
going on, you think that's goingon, you see it, and then
you see, oh, well Ididn't know that. Well who is this?
(05:29):
You know this kind of thing. It's it's like that going on through
the movie, and I'm uh,and there's But the real thing is it's
a it's a dangerous movie, andit's in some sense. I mean there's
danger throughout the movie for all themembers and then you find out who they
all are quite interesting. Yeah,And for people listening, I'm telling you,
(05:50):
when you watch the first five minutesof this movie, you have to
finish it. There's no the waythat the movie is set up in the
plot. I know, trying notto say too much, job, but
I can't tell you how much Ireally enjoyed watching this movie and I highly
recommend it to everybody. You know, you mentioned the cast that you worked
with, and everybody really brought itin the film. Madison Bailey is a
(06:14):
young star on the rise you know, coming off of Netflix without her banks
a lot of Yeah, she's lovely, lovely person. What a nice person
she is, What a good actressshe is, the real deal. She
seems like the real deal for meas well, Like she comes across in
a whole different way than I've seenher before in this movie. And I
guess, like, when you seeyoung actors or actresses on the set,
(06:36):
do they approach you and ask for, you know, any tips or advice
or do you offer that you know, do you feel like that's your role
to kind of pass on some ofthe tricks of the trade. Well,
you know, yes, because you'reviewed that way because they've seen your movies
and they're impressed with them, youknow, and they're starting out to make
(06:59):
their way. But these people talentcomes from God, and these people are
gifted and and they then I couldhave learned from imitating a fellow like myself.
They may be inspired by certain things, and you may give them some
encouragement, but the talent that theyhave is you know, that's what's driving
(07:25):
them and that's what point away forwhere they have to go. But these
when you meet real talent and youlook at these people, say Oh this
guy does this, well, thisis interesting whatever. I'm watching these guys
like a fan, you know, jazz, wonderful, look at this,
and then I try to bring whatI'm supposed to bring, you see,
(07:48):
So it's I look at everyone asa peer, even the young kids.
Even when I've worked with pretty Schroger, it was quite amazing and chat and
he was just he was a boy, but he was he was wonderful.
He was magical. So anyway, well, no, I and sometimes I'm
sure you see something that another actordoes and go, wow, that's a
(08:11):
really interesting approach. Maybe I'm gonnaadd that to my repertoire if I have
a situation that calls for it.Right, Well, usually the things that
I'm impressed with are unique to thatperson, you know, in other words,
like who could do Jimmy Stewart,or you know, talking about whatever
the actor is for this particular day. You know, I just saw this
(08:37):
the the movie, the musical moviewhich this young actor what's it called,
remember the name of the movie. But he was so impressive. This guy
(08:58):
so oppresses He was in Doom. What's his name? Schmello? Oh,
Timothy shallow May, John, TimothyChallomie, Yeah, Timothy shallow May and
he's really he's the real deal.You know, he's a big star.
That he's a young young fellow. It's wonderful to see this kind of gift,
(09:22):
you know, on the screen. And anyway, so you get the
old ones and they're going and thenthe new ones will come in. That's
it. Well, you know, this film is called The Painter. It's
available on vod right now. Again, I strongly suggest everybody watch it.
I have time for one last question, and I wanted to ask you this
the last time we spoke, andI feel like I'd be remiss if I
(09:43):
didn't bring it up. And I'msure it's been asked of you a thousand
times, but how many times doessomebody reference your Seinfeld episode to you?
Oh? Quite a lot? Actually, that's that is interesting. Uh,
that's really a funny thing that theseguys. The fellow, one of the
writers on that show, came upwith the scripts and the reason why he
(10:05):
did it was because he was solda car. He bought the car,
uh, the baron, Yeah, the le Baron. He bought this Liveraron
on the premise that it was JohnVoy's car. It actually happened so when
I went to the set to dothis little piece where it bit claimer's arm,
(10:28):
he said, John, would youcome around the corner and just do
something for me. He said sure. So I went around the corner and
said, is this your car? There was a car that was the le
Baron was there? I said no? He said, oh, damn it.
It actually was the true story thathe was he had written, you
(10:50):
know, and he had been suckeredinto buying a car because it was my
former car. Anyway, it's sofunny, man, one of the great
episodes. I encourage everybody to checkthat out and make sure you watch the
Painter. You're so great in atthe Cats. You're so great in it.
Such a fun story. I can'trecommend it enough. Thank you so
much, John for taking the time, and God bless you, sir.
(11:11):
Good Bye, good bye,
