LOS ANGELES – June 26, 2025 – Shout! TV is opening the vault to bring fans classic and unseen episodes of one of the most acclaimed and celebrated TV shows in the history of the medium. “The Very Best of Johnny and Guests” is a 50-episode treasure trove of legendary late-night gold, curated by the Carson Entertainment Group and Johnny’s family.

The entire library of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” has been stored hundreds of feet below the surface in a salt mine in Kansas. Carson Entertainment Group along with Shout! Studios have selected 50 episodes of the show never before seen since their original airing. These beautifully preserved shows contain classic Carson moments that made Johnny and the show so great.

All 50 Episodes of The Very Best of Johnny and Guests will debut on Saturday July 5th on The Johnny Carson TV FAST channel and air all weekend long. This special marathon will re-air every weekend in July, giving fans multiple opportunities to catch these television classics. Hundreds of previously available episodes can also still be seen on Johnny Carson TV and Shout! TV.

The Johnny Carson Show is one of the most revered TV series in Shout’s entire library. Shout! started distributing the groundbreaking series in 2019 and we couldn’t be happier about the opportunity to add new episodes from the series,” stated Matt Arsulich, Senior Director of Brand Management for Shout! Studios. “We have an embarrassment of riches that we know fans are going to love to see, whether it’s Johnny opening an episode by singing ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, more animal antics with Joan Embery, or a truly raucous appearance from Robin Williams.”

The Very Best of Johnny and Guests programming spans 20 seasons of The Johnny Carson Show, from 1972 to 1991, featuring unforgettable moments with stars including Christopher Reeve, Bill Murray, Joan Rivers, Robin Williams, Jonathan Winters, Gilda Radner, Lucille Ball, and more. Viewers can enjoy Johnny’s legendary characters, Carnac the Magnificent and Art Fern, along with his signature monologues. Plus, look out for musical performances from The Jackson 5, Martin Mull, Steve Martin, and a special appearance by Ringo Starr.

The new episodes will be available to stream on Shout! TV and Johnny Carson TV; as well as the Shout! TV app on Roku, Android, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV; and the following digital streaming platforms – Samsung TV Plus, Prime Video, Local Now, PlexFawesome, Twitch, Pluto TV, Tubi, .css-j9qmi7{display:-webkit-box;display:-webkit-flex;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;-webkit-flex-direction:row;-ms-flex-direction:row;flex-direction:row;font-weight:700;margin-bottom:1rem;margin-top:2.8rem;width:100%;-webkit-box-pack:start;-ms-flex-pack:start;-webkit-justify-content:start;justify-content:start;padding-left:5rem;}@media only screen and (max-width: 599px){.css-j9qmi7{padding-left:0;-webkit-box-pack:center;-ms-flex-pack:center;-webkit-justify-content:center;justify-content:center;}}.css-j9qmi7 svg{fill:#27292D;}.css-j9qmi7 .eagfbvw0{-webkit-align-items:center;-webkit-box-align:center;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center;color:#27292D;}

Now your hosts of the boat. Well man, it's a

(01:52):
pleasure to talk to you today.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Well, of course, we're talking about my favorite television personality
of all time, which is Johnny Carson, and you all
are doing over there with him. So for the people,
let the people know exactly what y'all are doing with
Johnny and how this came about.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Of course, So as opposed to some other talk shows
where the host did not necessarily own or control the show,
that is the case with Johnny Carson. So for thirty
years he was the host of the Tonight Show and
over the years folks might be familiar with, there were

(02:28):
DVDs that were available for a long time. Reruns would
air on certain networks, and with the way that we
consume television transitioning more and more to streaming, specifically free streaming, Shout,
which the company I work for, partnered with Carson Entertainment Group,
which is run by a couple of his family members,

(02:50):
to put up nearly five hundred episodes that chronicles the
nearly thirty year run of him hosting The Tonight Show.
Can stream it for free on their platform of choice,
whether you use to be Roku, Pluto, they're all going
to be available there. We also have a dedicated channel

(03:11):
that's available on some of those service as well that
shows all these episodes twenty four to seven.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
So for people you know who know the Tonight Show now.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Of course, I grew up when Jay Leno was the host,
and then Jimmy Fallon took over for him after the
brief conan eighteen month run that he had, which was
actually a great run of the Tonight Show. But I
feel like Johnny Carson what he was able to do
for television and for launching the careers of so many
entertainment icons. I think the example that people give all

(03:42):
the time is Jerry Seinfeld. But to go back and
see Rodney Dangerfield, or Bob Hope or Dean Martin or
Frank stop By with Don Rickles, which is one of
these classic appearances, or even the infamous George Globel moment
where he says, you ever get the feelings that the
world was a tuxedo and you're a pair of brown
and shoes.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
There are these iconic moments from Johnny. So let me
ask you this.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Were you a Johnny consumer growing up? Was Johnny your guy?
Or who is your late night guy?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
I'm a little on the cusp with Johnny. I was
about nine years old when his run ended, so I
was a little bit more in the Jay era growing up.
Huge Conan fan, so I was mainly tuned into the
NBC of it all for Jay, then into Conan. That
was a very formative time in my life. But always

(04:30):
certainly was a fan of Johnny. I'm a big Simpsons
fan too, so I loved his appearance on the show
there and I was able to, you know, catch reruns
and thankfully my career has led me to work in
classic television. So, like you just said, seeing all these
icons who appeared in their younger or just you know,

(04:51):
more in their primes, that's just been fantastic to see.
You mentioned Jerry Seinfeld. We just debuted fifty episodes unearthed
from the vault that were never in syndication, that were
never on DVDs, and one of those episodes is Jerry's
very first stand up appearance in nineteen eighty one. So

(05:11):
that's just one of many many gems that we were
able to debut just a month ago, and folks can
now relive those moments.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
And that's what's incredible about what y'all are doing because
I know Carson Entertainment Jeff Satzing, who is his nephew,
ran Courson Entertainment for a long time and kind of
stewarding the legacy of Johnny Carson. Yeah, there's been times
where you could catch them on broadcast channels, you know,
CW or what have you, but never in an on
demand format, and even the DVDs that you mentioned, they
were like clips in the Carson YouTube channel does great

(05:41):
with clips, a lot of clips out, but to see
Johnny in his full glory in all these shows is
kind of what's to me the most exciting thing about
what you all are doing to be able to really
relive those moments. Because there was a time where television
wasn't fractured and everyone tuned into the Night Show.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
It was appointment viewing.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
If you didn't watch the Tonight Show, you almost felt
like you were missing out on something.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
When you've been.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Going back and seeing some of these classic episodes, are
there ones that stick out to you? Because there's the
famous moments that we know of Johnny, whether he's on
the couch with Dolly Pardon or like I said before,
with Don Rickles and ed Ames where he asked ed
Ames you know, threw the axe and hit the guy
between the legs. There's so many classic Johnny moments. But
to see these unearthed ones, because I think that these

(06:27):
tapes were what they were kept like.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
In a vault underground somewhere, weren't they correct?

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yes, kept an assault mine which sold my way to
preserve those tapes, and over the years, the Carson Group
has done a great job of cataloging them, so within
seconds you can search the archives in order to find oh,
this certain episode with this certain person who appeared. You
can look up what was the monologue topic. You know,

(06:56):
it's really really incredible.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
What has kind of.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Prevent Carson and us from being able to explain the
entire catalog, which is you know, thousands and thousands of episodes,
as you might be aware, is music, because we want
to have the most complete version of an episode out there.
But thankfully, again with these new fifty episodes, which we
dubbed the very Best of Johnny and Guests, we were

(07:21):
able to finally have some music appearances which were not
available before because of the issues with you know, music publishers.
So that's something that a lot of folks you know,
really wanted to see. So we have performances from like
the Jackson five for example, so you know you have
a young Michael Jackson in there. We also have some
comedic musical performances. We have Steve Martin playing the banjo,

(07:44):
we have Martin Mull playing guitar. It's just really really
incredible to again have these moments, you know, unearthed and
being able to be seen for the first time in decades.
But to circle back to your other question about other
moments regardless of music, we have Gilda Radner making her
one and only appearance on the Tonight Show, and she

(08:07):
does Roseanne and Rosanna Dana, you know, her iconic SNL character.
We have several episodes more episodes with Bob Yuker, who
unfortunately passed away a few months ago.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
So that's great to have more of Bob.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
He would show up on the show whenever the Brewers
would be playing in Los Angeles, so it was a
yearly thing with Bob, and so we were able to
add a handful of more episodes. But if you were to,
you know, say, hey, what's your favorite, I would say
we have multiple Robin Williams episodes that we just added,
including an episode from nineteen ninety one where it's just

(08:43):
Robin and Robin's idol Jonathan Winters, who actually they co
starred together on Morgan Mindy as well, and you could
just imagine the manic, you know, chaos that happens with
the two biggest riffers you know in comedy. Johnny doesn't
even say it work, He just sits there unless those
two guys go at it. That is probably again, if

(09:04):
if I had to make the choice, that's probably my
number one.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Yeah, Jonathan Winters.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
As for people who don't know, like somebody who Robin
Williams got a lot of his influence from.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
And yes, they were all more commended together and had
a lot of.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I'm sure improvisational moments from that show that they drove
their production crazy.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
I'm sure at times. Oh yeah, we can only imagine.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
But Robin also famously one of the last two guests
on The Tonight Show with Johnny in ninety two and
May of ninety two. But also every time he had
an appearance, he would take over, Yeah, the studio, it
was you go in the crowds, I mean, in a
phonetic energy he had.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Yeah, we cut a trailer for these episodes, and when
I was giving the direction, like it was impossible to
you know, pick my moments because I was gonna say, like, oh,
make sure we have Steve Martin doing the banjo, But
then I was like, but also have Steve Martin doing this,
And then I would say, okay, with Robin Williams, we
need to do this portion. And the portion that we

(09:59):
did is just him screaming you know, which again is
classic Robin. But probably the thing that I wanted and
you're touching on it too, is to yes, we want
to highlight you know, these iconic Hollywood and you know,
athletic greats. We have you know, Muhammad ad Li in
an episode, two music guests as well, but at the

(10:19):
core of it all is Johnny because he of course
has his monologue, but he would also do you know,
sketches and bits. Klar and Ak of course is a
big one. Art Fern is another one. There's an episode
where they just open with Johnny literally in rhinestone cowboy
get up riding a horse and just singing a Western tune,

(10:42):
not just again showcases his talent. There's of course the
moments where it's unscripted, but like they knew that that
something would happen, So there's more animal antics. Joan Embrie,
you know, of course, a stalwarts of the show, so
there's a few appearances of her and you know him
with a monk, he climbing on him, you know like that.
That's always going to be fun to watch. And so

(11:04):
that is why we dubbed this this batch of episodes
the very Best of Johnny and Guests, because we wanted
to make sure that you know, there's a reason why
the late night format you know, has been still going
for fifty plus years, and he was the one who
really kicked it into high gear. And so that's why
you know, Jay Conan, Dave, everybody can owe their careers

(11:24):
to him.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, and the Tonight Show existed prior to Johnny with
Steve Allen and then Jack Pahr, but it wasn't really
the Tonight Show until you know, nineteen sixty three, I believe,
is when Johnny Carson officially took over. Now let me
ask you this, there were these famous lost episodes of
Johnny from the early years when you're still in New York.
I think there was some issue with the tape library
or the tape gover. Do you have any access to

(11:48):
any of that footage? Can we see that a part
of the shout line us?

Speaker 2 (11:51):
As far as I know, it is legit lost forever.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
You know, back in the day as archival was just
not as big of an issue when tape literally was
a expensive and so you know, they had to reuse
and repurpose it. So if something were available, we would
go through the trouble to do it. But we still have,
you know, plenty for folks to view. If you literally
wanted to sit down in marathon it, it would take you

(12:15):
weeks and if you want to go ahead, but you know,
I don't necessarily recommend that, but there's gonna be plenty
of moments for you to witness, whether you watch it
on the channel or you watch on demand.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
And I think that more than the guest to spotlight Johnny.
Johnny at one point in his career, I mean, was
an American icon is an American icon still, but perhaps
maybe next to the President of United States, could say,
the most famous person in the US and the most
important media figure in a lot of ways, even outside

(12:47):
of hard news. Johnny kind of addressed all issues. Was
but it was almost the temperature of the country.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
And so when you do rewatch these episodes, it is
a amazing time capsule because you can kind of see
because again we have episodes spanning thirty years, you know,
so you can hear him talk about the nineteen eighty
Olympics and you know, the hockey team defeating Russia, and
then it'll pivot to the multiple you know, various presidents

(13:19):
who were in the White House at the time, and
he was not afraid to take his gloves off and
you know, make fun of Ronald greg And or Gerald
Ford or whoever it was, and so yeah, like you said,
he could you know, have a little bit of an
attitude and also he would still try to be in
every man and please you know, whether it was on
the coast or in between, because he's you know, from Nebraska.

(13:42):
And it was just again when I was able to
rewatch all these episodes, it was just amazing to just
see the chart of history, not only from his monologue,
but also again from you know, the guests who are appearing.
You see people in their early days or you see
people in their later days. You know, you had mentioned
Dean Martin, Rodney Dangerfield, we have you see a ball
for example, Have you know gotten early mid late career

(14:05):
appearances from these just amazing American icons.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yeah, and he he helped launch so many careers from
that couch, from the famous okay symbol that he would
give to a stand up comic and if he'd call
them over, you were a made man.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
You know, your schedule would be booked.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Up all around the country from this one appearance on
this to an eight show. And it just shows you
how important of an icon he was and how the
franchise has been and still is to this day. The
Tonight Show is an important place for people to go,
and that's because of Johnny. So what if people go
for Johnny and guess the very best of the fifty

(14:42):
episodes that you have up there?

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Now, what else can they see from your service?

Speaker 1 (14:46):
What are some other lineups of programming that people could
tune in and see? If they come in for Johnny
but they stay for what else could they might see?

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (14:54):
My goodness, gracious were for you? Yeah, thousands and thousands
of hours of programming on the classic side, you know,
a great compliment to Johnny. And again, another American icon
is the Carol Burnett Show. So she just like Johnny,
even though her show aired on a network, she owned it.
And so that's why we're able to have, you know,

(15:16):
a treasure trove of Carol Burnett Show episodes. We actually,
thanks to Carol still being with us, we're able to
film a promotion with her time to Mother's Day, and
so she filmed some brand new interstitials to give introductions
to episodes, get behind the scenes info about classic moments.
We've done that the Mother of All marathons. So that

(15:39):
was a fun event that we were able to do.
But again, if you're wanting to just relive all those
great moments, sketches, musical performances, et cetera with Carol and
the rest of her gang. Can't recommend that highly enough.
Plenty of other classic television is available on our service,
Father Knows Best, for example, the Gene Autry Show. Plenty

(15:59):
of stuff that you know, folks have grown up with
that is multi generational. That's kind of the beauty of
all this is that it's not, you know, gonna be
a trite experience for somebody. It's gonna be still fresh
and engaging and hilarious, whether you're an octogenarian or an adolescent.
That's what I really love about this is that it's multigenerational.

(16:22):
I can have content that's going to be universally beloved
that kids and grandparents and mothers and children are able
to watch together.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
I think that's also what's beautiful about not only those
shows from back in the day, but Johnny too, Because
Johnny was for all ages. Everybody stayed up to watch him, whether,
as you just said so eloquently, you were an octogenarian
or an adolescent. Everyone enjoyed the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Okay,
here's my final thing for you and maham, do you
have after you've combed.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Through all these hours?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Is there a favorite Johnny Carson monologue joke? If you
don't have one off the top of your head, it's okay.
I have a favorite of mine, which is he said,
I think it was oh cold today, lawyers will putting
their hands in their own pockets, which is a great
Johnny Lott.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
But did you have any that come to mind? Or
there's just too many to pick from? No, I don't
think I could pick one. Again.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
This was a very big labor of love where I
had to watch, you know, all these episodes, and I
could not pick a favorite monologue moment other than what
I said before. We're just at that episode where he
comes out he sings Ryan Stone Cowboy like that's something
I'm going to remember forever.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yes, Well, Shout TV to debut episodes of The Johnny
Carson Tonight Show, not seen since its original broadcast.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
I can't wait to spend all my waking.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Hours on the service watching them, as I'm sure that
so many of my audience will as well.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
And Matt, we really appreciate you joining us today. Thank
you so much.
