(00:00):
It doesn't matter whatyou've experienced in life.
You have the ability to ask questions tobring it back into balance and be able
to see it on the way, not in theway, and be able to appreciate, love,
feel grateful, inspired, enthused, certain, and present.
The transcendental state.
(00:20):
Have you ever had an evening whenyou're trying to rest, going to sleep,
and you had something happenthat day that was highly
infatuating, highly exciting,
something that was really attractive?
Maybe you met somebody that wassuper attractive or something.
And then you couldn't sleep becauseyou were preoccupied with this
(00:42):
kind of fantasy that you've created inyour mind about this individual that
you've now just met.
And anything that you really infatuateoccupies space and time in your mind and
runs you,
it's intrusive thoughts that comeinto your mind and it's hard to sleep.
You can also be reallyresentful to somebody or
despise or dislike somebody and
be really angry at somebodyand have the same thing,
(01:06):
have intrusive thoughts that occupiesspace and time in your mind and run you.
And again, have difficulty sleeping. And,
and most people have had thesethings distract their mind.
Anything that is highlypositive or highly negative,
that you're conscious of the upsidesand unconscious of the downside or
(01:26):
conscious of the downside, unconsciousof the upsides, activate the amygdala,
which assigns valency or emotionalcharge to these perceptions and
stimuli and events,
and then takes that and stores thatinformation in episodic memories in the
amygdala and into the hippocampus.
(01:46):
And what it does is it allows us tobasically have these intrusive thoughts.
Now, the reason why we have theseintrusive thoughts is because,
one represents preythat we want to consume,
when you're infatuated withsomebody you want to consume them,
and something you want to avoidover here that you resent,
that represents prey and predator.
And so we don't want to forgetthat because if it is prey,
(02:09):
we want to be able to capture it. Andif it's predator, we want to escape it.
So these are designed to distract yourmind and occupy space and time in your
mind and have intrusive thoughts,
and you're run by your imbalanced ratiosof perceptions of the world around you.
This is your survival self.
And anytime you have this to mildor moderate or extreme degrees,
(02:32):
your mind is going to have extreme, moderate or mild intrusions,
and you will not be present.
And you will be in a survival mode andyou'll be subjectively biased in your
interpretation of thisreality you have interpreted.
But there's a state that goes beyond that.
The Buddhist call it adetached state, or unattached,
(02:56):
or the middle path, thatis not elated or depressed,
it's not infatuated or resentful,
it's not conscious of the upsidesand unconscious of the downsides,
or conscious of the downsides, unconsciousof the upsides. It's fully conscious,
it's fully aware. Immanuel Kantcalled it the transcendent state.
(03:17):
It's got many names to it.It's moksha, it's liberation,
it's enlightenment, it'sa spiritual cosmic state,
whatever you want to call it.
But it's also the mostextraordinary and authentic you.
When you have these things balanced.
I can take a situation that'spreoccupying your mind,
that you're resenting and havingdifficulty sleeping at night,
(03:38):
and identify what specific trait,
action or inaction do you perceive thisindividual displaying or demonstrating
that you despise, dislike, or hated mostthat you're resenting, identify that,
have you go to the moment of theperception, and ask, what's the upside?
Because you're conscious of thedownside, unconscious of the upside.
(04:00):
If I come up with the upside of thatand I have you keep looking for the
upsides because everything has got twosides, and come up with the upsides,
this thing you think is terrible, you discover the terrific in it.
The thing you think is terribleor evil, you find the good in it,
whatever you want to call it. Andyou balance out that equation,
(04:21):
the intrusive thought disappears, and you enter into a altered state,
a middle path you might say,
where you're poised and presentand back on purpose and not
distracted. The samething on the other side.
If you're really infatuated with somebody,
I can have you identifywhat specific trait,
action or inaction do you perceive thisindividual displaying or demonstrating
(04:44):
that you admire most, that you look upto most, that you think is positive most,
and then I ask you in thatmoment, what are the downsides?
If I hold you accountable and make yougo through and identify the downsides
that are there,
and I've been doing this for 38 yearsand I have yet to find somebody that
can't do it, they justtake the time to do it,
they don't want to do itsometimes, but if they do it,
(05:07):
and I bring those backinto balance, there are no,
the intrusive thoughts disappear.
And what's interesting in the amygdalaand hippocampus, which has been,
used to be called the subconscious mind,
which is storing all those impulses andinstincts, seekings and avoidances, and
positives and negative perceptions,
(05:28):
the imbalanced ratios of perceptionsstores them, it liberates them.
The awareness that'sintrusive thoughts goes away.
And you're now present. You'renot storing those emotions.
You've integrated them.
You've transcended andrisen above the paradox,
(05:50):
as Einstein would call it. And you'veentered into a transcendent state.
Once those are in perfect balance,
you enter into a state of gratitude,
you realize there was nothingout of order there. You know,
Claude Shannon in his workon information theory,
said that anytime you have animbalanced ratio of perception,
you have a disorder.
(06:11):
You have a cyclothymic disorderwhich means you have mood swings,
as you're going from one to the other.
But the second you bring those intobalance and ask the questions that your
intuition is trying towhisper to you to get,
to try to bring you intofull consciousness, see
both sides simultaneously,
so you're not seeing thingsas positive or negative,
(06:32):
you're seeing things as neutral,
the moment you do yousee the hidden order,
instead of disorder. You start tofeel gratitude for that hidden order.
You feel automatically what is calledin the brain, a gamma synchronicity,
an aha moment, a eureka moment.
Your autonomic nervous systemof seeking and avoiding,
(06:54):
parasympathetic and sympathetic come intobalance. You have the most resilience,
adaptability, and the mostorder now. And you're present.
In that state you havegratitude, you feel love,
because love is the synthesisof all pairs of opposites.
You have inspiration because you've seenthe hidden order in what's going on and
(07:17):
instead of judging something that'srunning you, you're now running you.
And you now realize that there was amagnificence to that instead of something
that caused you infatuation or resentment.
Because infatuation resentmentis an incomplete awareness.
It's a subjective bias.
It's a distortion ofwhat's out there. You know,
when you infatuate with somebody youthink they're going to have you more
(07:38):
positives than negatives, butover the next few weeks or months,
you find out it wasn't what you thought. The same thing with things you resent,
you discover there was upsides to it,
and you may have not havebeen aware of it immediately,
but you eventually see it.
So when you have the wisdom of theages without the aging process,
by looking and asking thequestions to see both sides,
you enter into a transcendent state. And this is your most authentic self.
(08:01):
Because when you infatuate withsomebody, you'll minimize yourself.
And that's not you. When you resentsomebody, you'll exaggerate yourself,
by the law of contrast. That's not you.
But when you bring those into balanceand you just appreciate and love them,
don't put them on pedestals orpits, but put them in your heart,
you have gratitude and love. You're inspired. You have entheos,
(08:24):
enthusiasm. Entheos is not excitementas some people misinterpret.
It's the divine within. It's theperfection of the balance within.
You also have more certainty becauseyou're not having emotional wavering,
and you're present. Gratitudeand love of the heart.
Inspiration of the mind, enthusiasmof the body, certainty of the mind,
(08:47):
and presence, is the transcendent state.
Now I've been teaching peoplethe Breakthrough Experience,
which is my signature programnow for, gosh, 35 years, almost,
34 and a half years. And I take peoplethrough what I call the Demartini Method,
which is a series of very precisequestions that help you become aware
(09:08):
of what you're unconsciousof, so you're fully conscious,
and you balance out thoseratios of perceptions.
And I've taken literally over 125,000people now through that process.
And each time when they balance it andwe hold them accountable till they do,
once they balance it and see thethings they overlooked initially,
(09:28):
they enter into this transcendentalstate. There's tears of gratitude.
They have love for this individual.
They have inspiration about thecontribution that it's made.
They're enthused about what it's goingto do now once they understand that,
they're certain about it and they'represent with the individual and they have
feelings of love for them. And theyalso love a part of themselves,
(09:49):
because we can't judge other peoplewithout judging a part of ourself. Well,
whatever we resent in othersis a reflection of the
things we're ashamed of in
ourselves, but too proud to admit it.
And the things we admire in othersrepresents the thing we're too humble to
admit, even though we have it.
When we fully see both sides and havereflective awareness and full conscious
awareness, you might say, andwe're mindful instead of mindless,
(10:13):
we enter into this transcendental state.
And this transcendental state bringswellness, resilience, adaptability,
it gives creativity,
allows us to be inspired by ourlife, we see the hidden order.
It trains us to see both sidessimultaneously instead of being fooled by
misinterpretations of reality,
(10:34):
and allows us to maximize our potential. Our awareness, and our potential.
Because garbage in, garbage out,as they say in computer language,
if you have a disordered perception, you create disordered outcome,
a reaction. Your perceptions, decisionsand actions work in conjunction.
And if you perceive an imbalance, you'regoing to respond according to that.
(10:55):
And what's interesting, ifyou now perceive the balance,
you respond with the balance,
and your physiology comes intohomeostasis and wellness goes up.
And you have more, again, resilience. Why? If you're infatuated,
you fear their loss. If youresent them, you fear their gain.
If you have a perfectly balancedstate, you don't fear the gain or loss.
You live in a world of transformationand you're adaptable and resilient and
(11:19):
your heart rate variability demonstratesthis, and after we do the method,
you can see it in heart rate variability.
So we show resilience andadaptability. When we do,
we're most empowered and mostpresent, and most wellness,
if you want to use thatterm, and we're most mindful.
And this has all been demonstrated inmany different studies to maximize our
(11:41):
potential. It is thiswhere we're most authentic.
This is the transcendental state.
And in this authenticity statewhere we're not proud looking down,
or not shamed, looking up to people, but open-hearted looking across,
we have equanimity within ourself,
and we have equity between ourselvesand others, we're not judging them,
we feel love for them.
(12:01):
As Empedocles said in sixthcentury BC to fifth century BC,
that you know, there's love and strife. We've gone from strife and judgment,
which is empty, to the fulfillment oflove, the moment we see both sides.
You know, when you infatuatesomebody, you don't really know them.
When you're resentful to somebody, you really don't know them.
(12:22):
When you love them, you come to know them.
And the person you love hasthings you both like and dislike,
positives and negatives.
But when you're infatuated andyou have intrusive thoughts,
you're designed to have intrusivethoughts and be distracted with emotional
baggage and impulses and instincts,
whenever you have an imbalanced ratioof perception it's there to let you know
you don't have a full conscious awareness, you're not seeing things as they are,
(12:45):
you're seeing things as youmisinterpreted. You have a bias,
and you have a prejudice about thempersonally. An in-group, outward bias,
possibly.
In the process of actually balancing andholding yourself accountable to balance
it, which is what I teach peoplein the Breakthrough Experience,
I show them specifically thesteps on exactly how to do that,
(13:05):
to take whatever's happening in your life,
it doesn't matter whatyou've experienced in life,
you have the ability to ask questions tobring it back into balance and be able
to see it on the way, not in theway, and be able to appreciate, love,
feel grateful, inspired, enthused, certain, and present.
The transcendental state. Now,
if we were to imagine thatin the terms of physics,
(13:28):
if we had a particle of light,it can, a gamma photon of light,
a quantum of light can be dividedup into positive and negative,
positrons and electrons, if we putthose together, we make light again.
If we divide them out, we getemotions, you might say. So,
it was Paul Dirac in his principles ofquantum mechanics that described that,
(13:48):
and I read that when I was 18.
And that inspired me to develop theDemartini Method that I teach in the
Breakthrough Experience onhow to integrate the pairs
of opposites into a state
of enlightenment, or state ofmindfulness, a state of presence,
the middle path, whatever youwant to call it, the Daoist way.
There's many names for it. Butthis state is our authentic state.
(14:11):
This is our transcendent state. This is our full quantum state.
This is our enlightened state. This is our most fulfilling state.
This is the pleroma of the gnostics.
This is the fulfillment ofself-actualization by Maslow.
Whatever the name, it's called CosmicConsciousness by Richard M Bucke.
(14:31):
The name of it has beengiven different names,
but it's really the transcendentalself, that Immanuel Kant described.
So that's,
I wanted to take a few moments to go overthat because you have the capacity to
waken that state up. Andthat's the authentic you.
And the magnificence of who you areauthentically is way greater than any
fantasies you'll impose on yourself. And the reason why you get,
(14:54):
when you get infatuated or resentful,
you have those intrusive thoughts andyou can't sleep, that's not a flaw,
that's not a weakness.
That's the feedback of your body to tryto let you know you're not seeing things
fully. You're being blindedby an infatuation, resentment.
And when you do, you're creating symptomsin your body to try to guide you,
to ask new questions with your intuition,
(15:16):
to see the other side that you'reoverlooking and to balance the equation,
the mathematical equation of your mindand become enlightened and present again.
And to have the liberation andthe eastern mystical satori or
moksha as they call it, a spiritual state,
where you're truly inspired by theawe and eureka moment of the gamma
(15:37):
synchronicity in the brain, if you will. And this is the state of transcendence.
And this is the most authenticyou. And you have this capacity.
It doesn't matter whatyou're going through or what
you've been through or what
you've experienced.
All of the things you've experiencedhave the capacity to be transformed into
that state, if you ask the right question.
The quality of your life's based onthe quality of the questions you ask.
(15:59):
If you ask amazing questions,
you liberate yourself fromthese embondaging emotions,
and you get to be free to be yourself.
So I just wanted to take a moment to talkabout this transcendent, full quantum,
enlightened, authenticstate, this integral state,
where you've integrated the pairsof opposites and balanced them,
because that's real you. That's the part,
(16:22):
that's why I love teachingthe Breakthrough Experience
because I can show people
and take people through theprocess, the Demarini Method,
and guarantee that outcome,
as long as they're willing to just staywith it and just play with it and ask
the questions and answer the questions,
which is inspiring to do becauseit's educational, it's informative,
it's amazing what happens. And youcome out on the other end of it,
(16:44):
you have tears of gratitudefor the way life actually is.
The magnificence of theway life actually is,
is far greater than thefantasies we impose on it.
We don't need facades in our life ofputting on pedestal or put ourselves on
pedestal or pits or put otherpeople in pits or pedestals.
It's just time to havereflective awareness and see
that the world around you is
(17:05):
a reflection of the world insideyou. Balance the world's perception,
you balance yourself. Balance you,you balance the world perception.
The authentic you, the transcendent you,the full quantum you, the integral you,
the actually inspired you is worththe effort. It's the thrival self,
not the survival self.
It's the one that activates the medialprefrontal cortex and makes you awakened,
(17:30):
not asleep.
So I just wanted to take a moment toshare that and why I invite people to come
to the Breakthrough Experience, becauseI teach people how to go and do that.
And I don't let people, you know,go without getting that experience.
Everybody that comes in theprogram gets that experience.
I want them to know how tocreate that for their life.
So no matter what happens in their life,
they can transform it into somethingthey can be grateful for and feel love
(17:53):
about. We don't have tobe victims of history.
We become masters of destiny bybeing masters of our own life.
So just wanted to take a moment on that.
I look forward to seeing you at theBreakthrough Experience so I can share it
and actually have you go through theexperience so you know how to use that the
rest of your life no matter what happens,
no matter what your misperceptionsor distractions you have around you.
