Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to the best of the Fan morning show
on ninety three five and one oh seven five the Fan.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Super busy Football Friday. We sprinkle in a good amount
of basketball tonight as well. We'll try to hit all
of it for you here throughout today's show. But it
is seven point thirty. It is still high school football.
And I believe our next guest, who has just been incredible.
Usually at this point in the morning, he's three red
bulls deep. He's injected something into his you know, probably

(00:29):
just energy drinks to be perfectly clear here, probably usually
already crowdsurfed, the fat heads are out and about, I
believe though those have been put to the side for
this Friday morning. Dominic morand Operation Football from WHR. He
joins us here on the payless Lickers hotline. Are you
like on your couch right now? Is this a calm Friday?
He's in a snow Absolutely not.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
I will be moving forward, but I'm at the station
right now this morning. Yes, because it is true. Sadly
and unfortunately, Operate Football Sunrise kickoff has come to an end.
But it was our most epic season yet by far
bar none. We did a seat end of season recap
this morning in studio. We will be delivering the twenty

(01:13):
twenty five Spirit Award trophy next week, so we pushed
ahead to that and after a little montage our editors
put together it just with the show. What a great
season it was. Appreciate all the schools involved this year.
Awesome every single morning. But yeah, I have to get
up every Friday morning now, so I'm excited. I'm excited
about it personally, I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Now again, we're doing the show from seven to ten am,
so I'm not maybe totally up to date. Our morning
anchors on Sunrise are who right now?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
That would be Julia Mof and Julia Brooks.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Ok, so did they lift you up? Did you CrowdSurf
with them this morning? There had to be something right.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
No, they did decorate the studio though I'm about to
tweet the video or about to put the video out
on social media here actually conclude, but yeah, they did
the studio up really nice, said a lot of very
nice things, and team effort. Team effort. I'm always very
humbled to see the impact this makes in the community
outreach and everything. So no crowdsurfing, but a lot of

(02:14):
good vibes that's what we do on thirteen.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Sound like Tyler Warren answering a question Dominic Miranda.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Well, I'm just picturing Dominic Miranda right now and his snuggie,
you know, calling us and letting us know that Hey,
I am warm, I am indoors, and I am you know,
preparing my body in spirit for later this evening. One
last question of Operation Football. I know you mentioned that
you all will just hand out the winner of the
Spirit Award. I guess how does that work out? Do

(02:41):
people vote on it? Do you all decide? Take us
through that side of things.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Okay, So, as we talked about throughout this season, knew
this year was the Operation Football Sunrise kickoff fan vote
in the morning to decipher where we would be going,
which was a raging success. I might add a lot
of fan interaction there and every school we went to,
you know, wanted us to be there, so that was great. However,

(03:06):
when it comes to deciding on a winner, that is internal.
So what we do here everyone that had any sort
of part in the morning show and really throughout the
station any time of the day, we put a vote
out internally at WHR that people can kind of review,
like we kind of know that the top two or three,
so we kind of narrow it down. It's pretty easy

(03:28):
to tell throughout the year, and then we kind of
decide on a vote. But I'll tell you this year
it was it was close, but I think we knew
who was going to win for the last handful of weeks.
So I won't reveal it right now, but I will
say I think we've come to a conclusion on who
the winner will be and deserving winner. There was a

(03:49):
couple of schools that absolutely would have earned it, but
that's kind of how we come to a decision. It's
not like me just executive decision or anything. Everyone who
had a hand in the morning show and watched, you know,
they kind of go off fives like what made them last,
what made them really fired up in the morning. Different
kind of stuff goes into the rubrics. So but I

(04:10):
think we definitely chose the right one.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
An electric t's right there from Dominic Miranda of WHR
Operation Football our final regular season week. Dominic I said,
before you came on, I feel like we've never had
a high school weather year, like, oh my gosh, it
has been excellent. Tonight looks great again. Maybe a little
bit crispy in the air, but still looks pretty good
before potentially some rain this weekend. What do you like

(04:32):
in our final regular season week of the year tonight?

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Well, I like the weather, like you just said, I mean,
my goodness, it picture perfect every single week. I mean
last week was the first week that there was even
a chill, which I'm here for. I'm a fag, I'm
a fall weather guy. I'm an autumn myself, if I
might say so.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
But anyway, great, the most of Paul thing you've ever said, exactly.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Joe Tiger's, by the way, undefeated, rank eleventh the Division III.
So great week in store and setting the table for
sectionals at least small school sectionals coming up next week.
But our game of to night, and we're giving some love
to Bloomington. We're getting Bloomington South on the airwaves, all right,
rank second in Class five A, Center Grove paying them

(05:16):
a visit. That's right, We'll be taking our show on
the road to Bloomington. They are in our DMA, after all,
we got to show them some love. What better week
than the last week of the regular season. So Center
Grove coming off a crazy win against Lawrence North, every
single game Lawrence North is involved in, by the way,
is crazy. They are like the epitome of what growing

(05:37):
up Big twelve football way with you know, Geno Smith
playing Bryce Petty or something. Yeah, that is correct, so
really good stuff. Center Grove bounced back to looking to
end the season with just one loss. Bloomington South is
eight and oh but have they played anybody to the
level of Center Grove. I suspect not, so that should
be a fun game. Cathedral visits Warren Central. These are

(05:59):
two five and three teams who are better than five
and three. Cathedral is responsible for Center Brolle's only loss
of the season, So very excited about that. Warren Central
two back tough losses. The first one was Warrence North,
Like I said, crazy game, and then Carmel just looks ridiculous.
So excited about the Greyhounds and we got them on

(06:20):
the old tube as well, visiting Lawrence Central, who's no slouch.
HSSE is visiting Brownsburg. HSC was responsible for Brownsburg's only
regular season loss last year, So the Bulldogs, as if
they needed any more motivation to finish a right perfect
regular season, well, the Royals thwarted them of that goal.
A season ago in the last regular season game, So

(06:43):
I think that Brownsburg roles in that one because they're
going to be upset about that. Plainfield and Martinsville another
good one in five A that I like. Plainfield lost
to Whitelin last week, big win for the Warriors, and
then Ben Davis North Central we got as well, so
solid slate and I cannot believe we were about to
be complete with the regular season. It's been a fun year,

(07:05):
really good football this year, really really good football all
the way through. So tune in tonight we'll be up
Livington South five and six, and of course we'll have
all the action for you and recap at eleven o'clock
Eastern Standard.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Dominic is that Brownsburg team just to cut above. I
know they're going for their second straight state championship, but
this year seems like they might even be better than
last year.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
I didn't think it was possible because watching them last year,
I'm like, oh my gosh, they are good, and that
state game against Westfield was a classic, and the regular
season game Westfield and Brownsburg this year was classic as well.
They are a cut above. The only team that I
feel things the way I feel when I watch Brownsburg
is Carmel this year. Big credit to Kevin Wright in company.

(07:50):
I mean that the turnaround has been great. He clearly,
he's a cut above as far as head coaches go, clearly,
but Brownsburg, man, yes, they're good. Ten of eleven starters
on offense back is what I was the number I
heard thrown around Oscar Fry slings it Brandon Sharp's they
got a slew of running backs to everyone stays fresh

(08:11):
like they when I go to their games to get highlights.
If I'm there longer than twenty minutes, it feels like
something's wrong because I feel like I can get two
or three touchdowns within fifteen twenty minutes. To be there,
it's really impressive to watch. But you know, any any
given Friday, you know something can happen. Like I wasn't
expecting Westfield to keep it as close as they did,

(08:31):
and they about won that game, so you know, who
knows sex Every game in a six A state run
is tough. So we'll see. But I'd be shocked if
they didn't make it back there for sure. I think
I think we all want the Brownsburg Cama matchup. Personally,
I don't. I think that is the matchup everybody wants.
Hopefully we get it.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
But we'll see, all right, dominic, you know where I
want to go, Yeah, Saturday, right under the lights, we'll
see what Mother Nature calls for. HM could be for
the final time in a while, the University of Notre
Dame in southern cal.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Which we don't need to go there.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Okay, the rivalry needs to continue, that's obvious. It's it's
it's a come on now, college football traditions. Come on,
all that makes sense. You gotta have it, point blank,
you gotta have it. The injuries at center make me nervous.
Ashton Craig out for the year all of a sudden,
Gabe Rubyo their top defensive tackle. Notre Dame not gonna
have him on Saturday night. I don't love that. I'm

(09:33):
sweating thinking about it.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Your thoughts, Yeah, No, it's it's nerve wracking, to be sure.
I do think Mother Nature playing a role actually plays
in Notre Dame favor. I would agree because a just
like a matter of grittiness. I don't think I need
to say anymore. I mean, Marcus Freeman said it. If
snow is going to deter you from coming to Notre Dame.

(09:57):
Then you're probably not a Notre Dame guy. If you
need to play in warm weather like the California soft
guys over there, that's fine, you can do that, but
you're not a Notre Dame guy. What I will say
is Gruvio being out is super tough. Craig tough luck
for him back to back seasons with the injury bugs.
But this defense seems to me anyway, to have found

(10:17):
something in the past few weeks. Chris ash is getting
better and better. You know, I heard on the broadcast,
and this is the first time I heard this. His
family still lives in Florida because he was a part
of the Jaguars staff last year. So like, just from
a personal human level, like probably a tough transition in
this first year, and not trying to give the guy
too many excuses here, but just as like a human

(10:39):
that's gotta be tough. So they were talking about that
on the broadcast. But anyway, be that as it may
gotten a lot better on the defensive side of the ball,
I still have some questions on the back end, however,
and we got to get home. So Rubio being out
is tough. But if it's going to rain, if it's
going to be a matter of gritty and violence and
physicality like advantage Notre Dame, especially when you have Darian

(11:01):
Price who needs to quit fumbling by the way, and
Jeremiah Love in the backfield. CJ came back down to
earth last few weeks. But if you watch him and
don't think that he's going to be playing on Sundays
after next year, then I don't know what to tell you,
and I can't help you. That guy has the if factor.
The way the ball comes out of his hand, the
way he goes through his progressions, his poise, everything about

(11:23):
him screams NFL quarterback one day. So he's probably gonna
win the Hivens next year, if not this year, because
if they win this game and go on a run,
he's going to be in the conversation. I promise you
that in Jeremiah Love will be too. But when it
comes to this game, hold him under twenty a lot
easier said than done, but hopefully mother Nature helps in
that regard. I think Notre Dame gets it done. Homefield

(11:43):
advantage is huge and put a sour taste in the
Trojan's valve, make him never want to come back in
part of this rivalry, even though they should and if
they don't, it's soft. But I think not it Dame
gets it done. But I share your nerves. This is
the biggest game of the season to date.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Gosh, I want a head by you.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
I feel so colors in the studio so you can
do some drills or something after he just gave you
that peptike.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
A great just third down pass block set right here
from Dominic Moranda looking like Joe Alt, looking like Quentin
Nelson back in the day in South End. Absolutely excellent.
I am thrilled. Our convos will continue throughout the playoffs.
Like you said, small schools will get going next week
playoff wise, we'll sprinkle in five A and six A
after that and the great Dominic Miranda whr Operation football

(12:26):
with us here on this Friday morning, Sir, enjoy tonight,
enjoy tomorrow night, and have a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Brother, Hey, always appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
You guys are the best.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Let's have a great Friday, great weekend. All right now.

(13:00):
el's future today. Excellent excellent year with Dominic, Miranda and
boy whether it's been outstanding again. Pretty good slate here
in the final week of high school football, and we'll
get things started playoff wise pretty much. I think it's
all one, a four. I think there's a maybe a five,
A matchup or two next week with the playoffs, and
then we'll get the big schools involved after that.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
I'm excited for it. This is always as a former
high school sports reporter, this was always such a fun
time of the year, busy time of the year. Shout
out to Dominic, Miranda, Kylet Needen, reprim MINDI Star. I'm
sure we'll be out and about along with a bunch
of other writers and stringers, and so these are the
stories that kind of, you know, for a lot of kids,
it decides what your high school legacy will be as

(13:43):
an athlete, and most of them, we know will not
be playing at the next level. So this is due
or die times, so they gotta make the most of them.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Speaking of the kids, I would say one of my
earliest sports memories got refreshed this week courtesy of one
Jim Harball. I want to make sure we played this year.
Colts and Chargers coming up Sunday, four oh five. The
Colts a slight underdog in this one, and you know,
the Colts move here in nineteen eighty four, and you know,

(14:10):
for I guess are a little bit of our older audience.
They know full well nineteen eighty four to nineteen ninety four,
the Colts weren't good one playoff appearance, struggling times to
create a winning product, and then the magic of that
ninety five season occurred. They were nine and seven, a
lot of one possession games, not like they were this
you know juggernaut. Throughout the year. They go on the
road to face ironically, the Chargers in round one is

(14:33):
that Crockett a huge game. Then in round two it's
Kansas City, it's low scoring, it's Lamont Warren. And then
obviously the AFC title game. I think everybody remembers the
whistles not going the coltswy in that one Aaron Bailey,
et cetera, et cetera. In true Jim Harball fashion, he
wanted to go back down memory lane this week. Here

(14:54):
is the Chargers head coach, the Colts quarterback in nineteen
ninety five on that season.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
Been dipped the net Magic Waters. Uh, that's that's what
it felt like. The entire season, just everything just falling
into place and you knew it and there was a
great rapport among among the players coaches. I mean, it
was a it was a ball team. It was just
a real ball team. One of my favorite ball teams

(15:20):
I've I've ever been on. Everybody just getting to it
working and uh. And also whether it was on the
field or you know, the training room, the meeting room environment.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Uh, every could.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Laugh easy and uh, you know, just we just worked
hard and had fun doing it. I guess if I
could sum it up with a with a bunch of
great guys that come from behind winds, you know, they
start callings the Cardiac Colts, I think, and things like that, Uh,
just finding ways to win. And it was it could

(15:54):
come from anybody on the roster. I mean, it could
be Marshall fall, it could be Marcus Pollard, it could
be anybody. See like every game there was somebody else
that was contributing mighty uh to the winh is all
all the guys on the roster that entire year, you know,
played a played a huge part, took everyone and everyone contributed,

(16:16):
and I think that was great for morale. And uh
it was you know those moments those games. I say
it's dipped in magic waters, because I mean there was
some there's some magical moments. You know, there's some magic made.
So it was. Yeah, that's probably my as a player
by far.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
My favorite.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
My favorite season was the ninety five season.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
What if I just started talking like Jim Harbough only
refer to the Colts as a ball team.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
In the your magic waters, magic waters?

Speaker 2 (16:49):
My kids would love it. I think my wife would
probably hate it.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
I think she was like, yeah, that's kind of cringe.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Yeah, really cringe. In all seriousness. I tweet out that
video yesterday, James, and you know, again, that's probably my
first sports memory. Like I can still see Harball and
the Hail Mary, Like I can see that right now
in my head. But I couldnot tell you how many
people reached out when I tweet out that video yesterday
and saying that's when I became a fan. That's my

(17:16):
favorite team. And you know, it's kind of funny because James, like,
the Colts have won a Super Bowl, they've gotten to
another super Bowl, and yet that's the team a little bit.
I think pay survives from last year of the cardiac
nature and the underdog story and not totally expecting to
be there. I know you didn't grow a hell you

(17:36):
weren't even born in ninety five. Were you born in
ninety five? Yes, literally the end of ninety five that year, okay, yep,
so you have vivid memories of course, oh yeah, everything.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
But I remember my first steps.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
By the way, I think even like you've heard a
little bit about that that team.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Well, yeah, for me, it's always like why is he
in the Ring of Minor?

Speaker 2 (17:55):
And people are like, how dare you? Yeah, how dare
you bring this? No, Like people do have that quiet
like why is Jim Harball played for the Colts for
four years? Yeah, six ninety seven? Why is he in
the Ring of Honor? And it's a great question because statistically, oh.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Dude, I got killed for suggesting. Oh man, it does
you know Shaquille Leonard possibly getting the ring of honor.
No way, he didn't play long enough. I'm like, wait,
what happened during this four year stretch? But then you
get the backstory and you're like a little different.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Yeah, and again I can remember Crockett going off against
the Chargers and then a really low scoring game with
the Chiefs that that next week, and so many change.
I know people play the wef games, you know here
with his NBA Finals run game seven, I know a
lot of people do. I'm and was reminded last night
watching Starting five how big of a sour puss I
was the Monday after Game four. I think you and

(18:42):
Jeff thought about carrying me to my car after that
after that show there. But there's some what ifs of
that AFC title game too, which you know, when you're
nine and seven and you're on the road to start
the playoffs, you don't think of being a play away
of make it to the super Bowl. But pretty magical
run and the Colts will see Jim Harball coming up
on Sunday.

Speaker 6 (19:02):
You saw me wearing my letter rip shirt Monday that.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
I love that. That was one of the big sayings
from that ninety five.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Year Kim's an old soul he is.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
He is an old soul. The biggest advantage for the
Colts on Sunday is where James.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
It's a great question. I think your biggest advantage it's
possibly that their offensive line is banged up, and.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
More so than Jonathan Taylor against that run defense.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
I could lean there too. I guess I was looking
for like something that was kind of underlying. I mean,
JT is JT. This guy could probably go off for
you know, I feel like he's due for a twenty
yard game at some point in the season, right So
I think I'll probably start there. But if I'm looking
for more things that are like less in your face,
is probably that offensive line. When it comes to this
Colts pass rush, if you're ever going to have an

(19:55):
opportunity to get after the quarterback, it should be this week.
Going through numbers yesterday and Justin Herbert, as great as
he's been, he has been pressured on forty one percent
of his dropbacks this season. That's the third highest rate
of anybody in the NFL. And if you look at
those particular pressures, forty eight percent of those have been

(20:18):
an under two point five seconds. So again, Layoutu Latu,
you're looking at you know, Abu Kom Quitty pay Taekwon Lewis.
Those guys should be getting some pressure. It should be
getting home and getting at least a couple of you know,
sacks or pressures on Justin Herbert to keep them kind
of off kilter again.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Coming up on the other side, Greg Rakestraw gonna join
us Matt Taylor at nine o'clock. We've got plenty to
get to here. It's not just football. It's a busy
night of hoops as well, so we'll get you set
with all of it. Kevin bow and James Boyd, Caleb Zuver,
Happy Friday, everybody. Thanks for tuning in right here to
ninety three five one of seven to five the fan

(20:58):
James Boyd. One purchase you would make after putting pen
to paper on the Kurtzignetti contract.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Oh, that's a great question, selflessly for you.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
I I I get you know, Hey, I'm gonna whatever
you know, mom, dad, this that you know house, Oh.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
That wasn't gonna happen, No way that was gonna be
second to me.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
I'm speaking to people that actually have a heart, you know,
knowing you and how your egos were.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Yeah, I told you my parents didn't give me the
good nepotism. You know, I didn't get any of the
good stuff.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
You have the wrong last name.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
But it's just beside the family stuff. I think I'll
probably just go out and buy whatever car I dreamed of,
Like I don't know, a Lambau or something like that
where I wouldn't drive it super tooper crazy or fast.
But I always when I walk to like the players
parking lot sometimes at the Coldst facility, and they have
some nice cars, I'm just like, man, like, that's a
Rolls Royce that is worth more than people's houses. So

(21:49):
I would do something like that.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Yeah, my uh Honta Civic now you know, beat up
rogue stands out a little bit when I'm parking in
the generalfacentity, know what, I walked through there do a lot.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
The other day I saw a Toyota at the Avalon
and I was like, you know what, somebody's like me
in here. He's still in that rookie contract.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
It's one of those tryout kickers.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
It might be honest.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Who was there? I think I go. I would have
to have a yard big enough. I currently don't golf
hole in the backyard. Oh absolutely, I feel like, yeah,
give me at a part reaction in the backyard speaking
of a man that you know, it was probably one
that was a big fan to see that from Kurt Signetti.
He is a diehard EYU football fan. He is also
the voice of the Indianapolis Coltsy is Matt Taylor. Matt Taylor,

(22:28):
what would you do? What would be that first purchase
for you? With eleven point six million annually?

Speaker 7 (22:35):
I've always said if I struck at big time, I
don't think. I like to think I wouldn't change my lifestyle.
I don't think I would change how I dressed, the
car I drive. I wouldn't, you know, move into an
elaborate home. I wouldn't buy a big mansion. I would
like to think that I wouldn't change my lifestyle at all.
But the one thing I would do all the time
is I would just host epic parties. I would host

(22:58):
I would have huge parties. I would bring in bands,
I would have free beer and bar and keg and food.
And I would pay for all these parties. I want
people to come over and have a good time. And
the biggest thing I'd pay for is people clean it up. Oh,
and that's what that's I think how I would spend
a lot of my discretionary money if I had eleven
point six million dollars a year is just host epic parties.

(23:22):
Come over and watch the game, you know, come over.
We'll celebrate your kid's baptism. Will come over, we'll celebrate
you know, your daughter's first communion, whatever it is. I'll
have just come over to my house. I'll pay for
the party I'll get I'll get it catered, and then
I'll just I'll bring in a bunch of people with
clean that crap out of you.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Hell, you got a two eight on the report. Car
come on over.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
All right, I was gonna say this kind of sounds
like in all say, this is a joke, Jim irsay,
and how giving he was, And you know you won't.
I would always tell you all this and I will
literally leave Earth saying this, Jim irsay, did rich right?
That man enjoyed his money?

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Well?

Speaker 2 (24:00):
And I think Jim Harball said that very well earlier
in the week, and h and describing at Matt Taylor
before we get to your great tailor's tidbits. I can't
wait for Sunday. I think it's an awesome match up
here in week seven. I love that. I love when
you share this, and you shared the clip. I think
I saw it on Instagram of your final call of
the crystal Monds play against Trey McBride there to ice

(24:21):
the game, pretty much ice the game on Sunday, and
for the most part throughout that play, you're binocularing it up.
Are you a binocular guy most of the game. I'm
kind of curious. I don't know. Maybe it's only me
that cares about this. And obviously your NFL view depends
on where you're at in various stadiums. But do you

(24:43):
usually binocular I.

Speaker 7 (24:46):
Use the binoculars every plays, every play. Yeah, I use
them every play at every game, no matter where we
are home, home and road, no matter what the vantage
point is, because I mean, it's hard to see it
really is, and for me, I can only speak for myself.
I use the binoculars to track the ball because there's

(25:07):
so much ball handling now at the line of scrimmage,
right between play actions and RPOs. You know we're faking
jet sweeps. I just follow the ball until I know
where the ball is, and then if I'm afforded the ability,
I'll take the binoculars, you know, out of my sight line,
you know, away from my eyes, and then I'll I'll

(25:27):
call the play based on you know, my my vantage
point where I'm at, or you know, sometimes, as is
going to be the case on Sunday, we're going to
be in the corner. So if you're in the corner,
you just got to make it work between everything at
your disposal, your eyeballs, your binoculars, the jumbo tron, the
monitor that you have in the booth next to you.

(25:50):
Lara Overton, who helps spot on the field. She can
communicate with me in my headset off air, and so
she's helping me if the ball's on the other end
of the field, if we're in the corner for me
with line of scrimmages on the other end of the field,
and who makes the tackle on the other end of
the field. So all of those things go into it.
But yeah, I use the binoculars because you know, I

(26:11):
want to know who's split out wide to the right.
I want to know which tight end is over here
to the left because sometimes, uh, you know, depending on
formation and where they're at in the field. You know,
Drew Ogletree looks a lot like Moley Cox from Seven
Stories up right, So just use the binoculars on every
play to get as many details out there pre snap

(26:32):
and then post snap too.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
So last one about these binoculars because I do have
a pair as well, and so does Kevin. When did
you get your first pair? Because I got mine years
ago high school sports, and I swear to you, I
love Indiana high school sports. With some of these teams,
I'm like, why are you wearing white jerseys with gold numbers?
I can't tell that's a three or and eight? And
you know Mama Papa will get mad if I credited

(26:55):
the wrong kid on Twitter with a touchdown. So the
binoculars became a staple of the James Boyd backpack gear
for game days.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
Yeah, I mean just one more thing on that. I
mean just not to not to nerd out, but I
mean watching watching pregame warm ups is one of the
more underrated things is by play guy can do because
you watch you watch film during the week, and you
know you're watching it for you know, tendencies. I'm not
watching it like an analyst would watch it, but I'm
watching it also too to to figure out what what

(27:25):
does Travis Kelsey look like in his uniform. I mean, like,
but yeah, like, just give me some give me, give
me as many indicators on game day so that I
can identify you as fast as possible when you touch
the ball or when you make a tackle, so that
I don't have to think or guess or look down
at the roster, you know what I mean. So, are
you wearing pink leats that day? Are you wearing you know,

(27:48):
if you're if you're Tyler Warren. You know he's got
long hair coming out of the back of his helmet, right,
that's an indicator. Do you have a towel coming out
of the side of your of your football pants? I mean,
anything that could give me just one more indication piece
to identify you as fast as possible. And James, like
you just said, I mean sometimes eighty eight looks like

(28:09):
eighty one. I mean sometimes you know, you look like
Alex Pierce wears fourteen, but Tyler Warren wears eighty four. Right,
So I mean sometimes you just get blocked and you
have to guess and you're just going off of body types.
But you know you always want to pause and you know,
give that extra half beat to make sure you get
it right, Sometimes you don't. You got to move on.

(28:31):
But yeah, those are the biggest things where you know,
binoculars come into play. But my first pair of binoculars
I bought with my own dough. I bought them in
two thousand and eight when I started doing high school
play by play, and I still have them. They're they're
they're the same binoculars you saw on that video, Kevin.
They're lightweight, they're small, they're easy to handle, they're easy

(28:52):
to like transport. I've called every game I've ever done
with them except for one. And it was a couple
of years ago, a Colts home game, and I just
flat out left home without them, and I just felt
like I was naked. I did. I just felt like
I was naked without my binoculars. And so when I
pack my bag tomorrow, when I get on that plane

(29:13):
to LA, That'll be like top five checklist item.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
I got to have those.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
If that ever happens again, you slide down to James
Boy and I are watch and we will give up
our binoculars for you, sir. You are more important than
we are here. You got my back.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Yeah, amen to that. It'll be Matt Taylor, Charles R.
Buckal Are Overton Are coverage one o'clock, four oh five kickoff.
It's the award winning time for Taylor's headbits.

Speaker 7 (29:42):
All right, guys, I got a couple of good ones
here today. Hopefully they're good. Let's talk about the Chiefs,
or excuse me, the Chargers and the Colts, because they're both.
They both been really good against the AFC. The Colts
are four and zero against the AFC and the Chargers
are too. In fact, Los Angeles has won seven straight
regular season games against the AFC.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
It was so good it was a drop of mic moment.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
I'm not surprised. We will get him back all these
airwaves pretty soon. There.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
That was an interesting stat both teams undefeated in the AFC.
I didn't realize the Chargers of taking it to another
level here. Their losses are what Giants and commanders.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Yes, and I believe whoever wins this game would technically
be in first place in the AFC.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
I didn't even think about that. Had head tiebreaker with
that with the Steelers losing last night, yep. And that's
the thing. If you look at the AFC right now, James,
before last night and I guess the Steelers four and
two after last night?

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Right?

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Were they four and one? I think they've already had
their boys.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
They're four and two.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
I want to say, you have five teams at four
and two. So, boy, you think about the Colts win
over Arizona. I mean they easily could have been foreign two. Yeah,
it's a very jumbled group. And then Kansas City is
I believe the loan three and three team right now.
So again, probably a little premature to be dissecting standings,
but it is a reminder of, Hey, one game or

(31:04):
two and all of a sudden, you know, you can
go from whatever first and six in a hurry. All right,
Matt Taylor will cue the music back up. But that's
sat was so good that all of a sudden it
just fried our phone lines.

Speaker 7 (31:15):
I tell you what, Yeah, I tell you what. Everything
you know, technology is super fun, and here we go.
I was telling you about how the Chargers they've been
perfect in the AFC seven and zero dating back to
last year, and you know, it's one of those things
that has allowed them to be in contention to make
the playoffs. As of right now, you've got a four
and two team. But as of right now they're winning

(31:36):
the AFC West and they're also third in the AFC
pecking order going into this game. And you know, they've
got the seventh best overall offense and defense, but they've
only outscored their opponents by a total of two points
on the season. You know, offensively, they've been able to
move the ball and they're really good in a lot
of important categories, but they're only scoring twenty one points

(31:58):
per game. They've got three receivers with at least three
hundred yards, that's the most of the NFL. That trio
is Quinton Johnston, Keenan Allen and Ladd mcconkeey. They also
have the fit most exposed to plays over twenty yards
their fifth so far on third down. But what's killing them,
and I'm sure you guys have talked about this, They
are the worst team thirty second in the NFL in

(32:21):
red zone offense, converting just thirty five percent of the
time inside the twenty yard line. They only have seven
red zone touchdowns all season long. All right, let's talk
about them also the other way in the red zone,
right the Chargers. We talked about them being terrible on offense,
but they're great inside the twenty yard line on defense,

(32:42):
and that's what the Cults are going to be put
to the test when they've got the ball. They've been
outstanding the last two games. They're perfect ten per ten
scoring touchdowns inside the twenty yard line. But the Chargers
on defense ranked number two in the NFL in red
zone defense forty two percent. They've given up only nine
red zone touch downs all season, and dating back to
last year, they've allowed this twenty five red zone scores

(33:06):
since the beginning of two thy and twenty four and
the last one I'm gonna hit you with here, fellas,
let's talk about Justin Herbert. He's kind of like Daniel Jones.
He's been under siege a lot. Teams are boats to him.
They're trying to heat him up, and it splits aren't
nearly as good against the pressure as Daniel Jones's numbers there,
all right, Herbert has been pressured a league high ninety

(33:29):
nine times already this season, and when he's been pressured,
he's completing forty four percent of his passes. He's thrown
three picks, and its passer rating is amasately fifty four
point four. Now you compare that when he's not been
pressured all right, when the offensive line does a good
job and he's got time. Justin, Herbert is the elite.

(33:50):
He's in the upper echelon of quarterbacks and he's just
been surgical when he's got time. That's why it's imperative
for the Colts pass rush to have a better performance
than this game than they did last Sunday against Jakobe Brissett.
In totality, so when Herbert has not been pressured, he's
completing eighty percent of its passes, He's thrown eight passing touchdowns,

(34:12):
and he has a passer rating of one fifteen point two.
That is a drastic difference pressure versus non pressure. That's
going to be a big storyline in this game for
the Colts pass rush.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Boy, that that red zone staff for the Chargers is
really interesting, Matt, because I look at the Colts the
last two weeks ten of ten in the red zone,
and I was actually talking to the Colts PR staff
this week. I go like, historically that seems astonishing. Like
I know coaches mentioned this often, but if you're successful

(34:44):
in the red zone, that can be the difference in
so many games, and the Colts, you know, weren't great
in it and yet moved it so well early in
the season, and now the last two weeks. If you
look at last week, Colts are what four of four
and I think the Cardinals were three of six. It's
just that, I think is the nervous for me for
the Colts coming up on Sunday, because the red zone
feels like it can be such a snap of the

(35:05):
fingers and you just get it together.

Speaker 7 (35:07):
I completely agree. I mean, I mean, first of all,
I mean, how impressive is that in two weeks the
Colts go from I think ranked twenty fifth in red
zone to tenth. Right, you know, that's what that's what
ten for ten will will, We'll do for you. But
you know, just generally speaking, it's just so hard. That's
where games are more often than not one and lost.
You know, if you give up, if you're giving up

(35:28):
threes and you're scoring sevens, you're gonna win a lot
of football games. And just you know, the field shrinks,
the windows are tighter, and defensive coordinators they play it
completely different down there. They start blitzing more, they start
using different players as chess pieces, and the ultimate chess
piece this weekend is going to be Irwin James.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
That's safety.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
I mean, he is just a fantastic player. He can cover,
he can rush, He's really fiscal inside the box. And oh,
by the way, a little bit of a honorable mention
Taylor tidbit. The last time the Colts played the Chargers,
he got bounced, he got thrown out of the game.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Dueling hit. Yeah, the color Ross game, right, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (36:06):
He had like two personal fouls in actually I think
it was three. He had three penalties in the span
of like three plays before he got kicked out. And
he had the helmet the helmet hit on Ashton Doland.
But he's a great player, he really is, and I
think he's going to be an X factor, especially inside
the red zone when the Colts have the ball inside
the twenty yard line. Trying to get seven.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
Seat one A on the plane tomorrow, Shane Stiken, Seat
one B. Matt Taylor's binoculars. That's how it'll be heading
out to Lax. Matt Taylor, safe travels. We'll be listening
and James Wood and I will see you in a
few hours.

Speaker 7 (36:40):
All right, guys, always going to be with you.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
That's the best right there. The voice of the Colts
Matt Taylor.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
I think him and his binocular love is kindred spirit
to what I've developed over the years. You leave the binoculars,
you're naked.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
I think that was well said. I'm shocked he didn't
ask somebody for them, honestly for that game. What did
we haven't noted? I think this week maybe we have James,
but you know, returning kicks right now for the Chargers
is Naim Hines. And yeah, the story is just I mean,
it's an awesome story. He's made it back and I
think fans will probably remember obviously was traded from here

(37:18):
in twenty twenty two. Really was such a productive player
for this football team as a fourth round pick, and
hearing players describe him this week, I mean beloved and
a lot of defensive guys, yeah, expressing that the horrific
jet ski accident, you know, looked like it was going
to end his career. And then he joined the Chargers
this preseason. I was cut at final cutdowns, but then

(37:43):
the Chargers have had a couple of different injuries to
Najee Harris and Omar and Hampton their top two running backs,
and so Hines is back and he had a huge
kick return to spark that final drive for them last
week and they went over Miami.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
Yeah, very good dude, and someone who was always willing
to give his time to the media. Very can guy,
wouldn't give you the cookie cutter answers and so selfishly.
I always appreciated that. But it seems like Naim Heines
was a beloved teammate and I'm looking forward to him
possibly being on the field. Was Zya Franklin who claims
to have ran him down. He was like, Hey, you're

(38:16):
talking about Naim Heines being a four to three guy.
I got him to the ground. So I'm always some
happy banter there between those two.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Guys, draft mates, those two backs in twenty eighteen. Indeed,
it is another trip out to Cali. So if I
stadium again, are we getting the Ady Mitchell full revenge game,
full movie, same corner of that end zone, same pylon.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Well, I can't call it revenge because the revenge will
be against yourself.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Well yeah, so I'm gonna say revenge.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
I'm gonna say redemption. It is probably a better word there,
Fredy Mitchell. But it is a serious question of will
he be available to play, will they make him active
after being inactive for the first time his career last week.

Speaker 6 (39:01):
I think if he scores, he runs right to that
pylon where he fumbled the ball, like to did with
the Dallas Star, you know, and he scored with the
forty nine ers. You go right to that piline, You
open your arms and you look to the heavens.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
That's what you do. Could you imagine? Unbelievable? But I mean,
James great theater. James is right. I asked that in
all seriousness. So just to update everybody. We'll give our
Colts Chargers picks here in a few minutes, but just
to update everybody where the culture at injury wise. Okay,
So corner, it looks like Javarius Ward is going to
be out. We'll see about Kenny Moore. He's been limited
these first two days. I don't know. I don't have

(39:34):
a great vibe with it now. Part of me is
like Kevin, don't overthink it. He was supposed to be
back within this four week window and this is the
fourth week. So he's gonna play Sunday, But I don't know.
We'll see how today goes for Kenny. One thing to
note about the corners though, while the Chargers are definitely
deeper at white out than the Cardinals. At least the
Cults have had a full week. Like Jonathan Edwards is

(39:56):
out a full week to get ready for whatever role
you envisioned for him on Sunday, where as last week
he had ninety minutes to really really get ready. But
at white out, no Josh Downs again inconcussion protocol, he's
likely out. Ashton Doolan has missed the first two weeks
of practice or first two days of practice with a
chest injury, and last year when Downs didn't play, the

(40:19):
role went mostly to Mitchell with a little sprinkle of
Ashton Doolan in there. Would you then give it all
to Doolan? But again he's missed the first two days
of practice, So would you put mitchellin? Do you move
Michael Pittman Junior into the slot? Does Tyler Warren just
cure all? Does the presence of Tyler Warren just say.

Speaker 3 (40:36):
He mostly not a bad option.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
We're good. We'll just play two tight end sets all
game long, and it'll be Pierson Pittman and it'll be worn.
So the Colts do have several questions here. They do
have some whiteouts on the practice squad they can turn to, Uh,
Caleb Zuverer. Why don't you start us off one and
a half point underdog the Indianapolis Colts a forty eight
and a half over under. Where you going?

Speaker 6 (41:00):
I feel really good about the Colts chances here. I
just feel like it's time for a statement win for
this team. And I do think not only is this
a redemption game for eighty Mitchel, I think for everybody
on that team. I think they knew they missed an
opportunity a few weeks ago against the Rams. So I

(41:22):
do think it's gonna be close. They're gonna have to
make plays down the stretch. We talked about it all week.
That pass rush is gonna have to get home. I'm
saying twenty three to twenty one Colts.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
You're going low scoring ruin.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
I am. I am Huh, James Boyd, what do you
like here in Week seven?

Speaker 3 (41:38):
I like that the Colts quarterback is Danie Jones playing
at a high level. His I guess worst game of
the year was out in LA, but even then, I
don't think it was like a terrible performance. I think
that he will lead this offense. But also looking at
that Chargers run defense, I'm like, man, could there be
another big performance for Jonathan Taylor? So I will roll
with the Colts. They're gonna be a high scoring game.

(42:01):
I don't really trust this Colts defense, but give me
a game winning drive and you get just with them
field goal range. Michael Badgley, Hey, welcome back to the Colts.
Kick you a game winner.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
The Colts have two real advantages on paper. One Jonathan
Taylor against this run defense. The Chargers have really struggled
stopping the run here, especially as of late. Yeah, give
twelfth most yards per game in the league on the ground,
great opportunity for the Colts. And then when the Chargers
have it on offense, your pass rush has got to
show up. They have got to finally show up, is
probably how I should put it.

Speaker 3 (42:31):
Well, you're facing a unit that has a bunch of crutches.
I'm like, please get home.

Speaker 2 (42:35):
Yes, offensive tackle really really struggling right now for the
Chargers in terms of health. So again, advantage that is there.
In close games, I usually revolve my choice around head coach,
quarterback and kicker. Head coaches.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
Oh fair, I see where you're going.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
I could see pretty even with these head coaches. Quarterback
I gotta go justin Herbert and Kicker. I'd definitely go
with Cameron Dicker. I think it'd be a great game,
thirty twenty seven Chargers.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
I'm looking forward to it so far.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Stadium is quite the place, and I would agree Caleb
on the statement game element to it. And it's not
lost to me that in that postgame locker room Shane
Styken mention the Chargers specifically. On Sunday, Josh Down's running
off the field mention the Chargers specifically, it's not every week.
I don't think the Colts will be running off the
field this week, saying we can't wait for the Titans

(43:28):
next week. R in our own building, like you can
preach week the week and every week as a super
Bowl in the NFL. Yeah no, and that ain't true.
They know Herbert, they know the Chargers, they know Harball,
they know La all that stuff. So I do think
this is one that's been a little bit more circled.

Speaker 6 (43:47):
And to the point, I feel like James would agree
with me on this, where as he gives a look
at me like I don't know. Players always say they
don't pay attention to social media and what, but they do, right,
and so I'm sure that they see there's a lot
of people who have said, like, Colts haven't played anybody,

(44:07):
schedule has been easy. They got to look against Denver,
and I think this is a real chance against a
team that everybody kind of is bullsh on in the
Chargers to get that win. So I think that matters
in all of this too.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
A couple of Ziah Franklin thoughts from this week, well
from this season, rather a few weeks ago before the
season kind of really got underway. I want to say
it might have been after Week one. He said that
Justin Herbert was not a top five quarterback in the NFL.
So does the tune change after that game, or do
you get a chance to kind of make your case

(44:40):
as to why you believe he is not by going
out there and taking him down and making sure that
you keep him under wraps. And then on top of that,
he said that he felt when they played the Rams
that the Colts looked at that as a game where
they were tested or they were getting their first real test.
And He's like, no, no, no, no, We're the test for

(45:00):
everybody else. And I think that that is the mindset,
he said. He wants his team to carry into their
second trip out west.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
The radio call Matt Taylor, Charles arbuckle lera overten our
coverage will begin at one. The TV crew again the
CBS slot the number two team, Iron Eagle and JJ Watt.
I believe the first time Watt has called the Colts
game and Iron Eagle boy, I think it's been a
while since he has had the Colts, so really looking
forward to that aspect of it. It is a loaded

(45:27):
weekend sports wise, not just for the Colts. We'll set
you up for it all one final time Kevin Bow
and James Boyd Caleb Zuver on a Friday
