Of those guys. Hey, what the helly, what the helly?
Speaker 7 (02:00):
We get it started again. Tonight's inside a game.
Speaker 9 (02:03):
Bridge give us his mother chicken on that one?
Speaker 7 (02:08):
Was that James Wood or was that Quinn Buckman?
Speaker 10 (02:09):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (02:10):
Let's it go year twenty for Christen Aari again. Even
though it's on ESPN tonight, you will have opposite from
a fandual standpoint there, and of course on our airwaves
you're thirty eight for Mark Boyle. So very fortunate in
this market to have such legends over the years on it.
(02:30):
And we'll continue to get you set for that. Just
a reminder Sunday it'll be a little different from a
listening standpoint on our airwaves. Colts Titans. That's going to
be on our sister station that's ninety seven point one
Hank FM. You can catch the ride to kickoff with
cham V of course in that Cults pregame huddle that
I'll start at twelve thirty right here on the fan.
(02:50):
Then once game time starts sister station four to twenty
five kickoff there ninety seven point one. The reason for
that is you have Pacers and t Wolves. Speaking of
Michael Grady, whose voice you heard there. Probably one of
the epic regular season games of last year was when
Obi Toppen went off in Minnesota. There the Pacers will
be in Minnesota. Our coverage will begin at six thirty PM,
(03:14):
So instead of having this fourth quarter flipping over stations,
Colts Titans will be on ninety seven point one and
Pacers and t Wolves will be right here on the
fan ninety three five and one oh seven to five. James,
We've talked about this a little bit, but that early
start to the season schedule for the Pacers, I think
it's one of the more difficult starts you could have,
certainly of many teams in the league. Again, tonight it's
(03:35):
a thunder. Then they will go back to back this
weekend Memphis and Minnesota. They'll wrap up with Dallas on Wednesday,
so it's a three game road trip Memphis, Minnesota back
to back, then Dallas on Wednesday. You come home, it's
a four game homestand within that four game homestand Golden
State and Milwaukee, two teams that you know, kind of
speak for themselves, and then you go out West for four.
(03:57):
So you know, right out of the gate, I think
it's a very difficult schedule, and you're doing it, you know,
without TJ McConnell for probably ten to twelve games as well.
Speaker 11 (04:07):
Yeah, so I'm very curious to see tonight who takes
on those backup point guard duties and how does that
all look because that is.
Speaker 9 (04:17):
A big, big role for an NBA team.
Speaker 11 (04:19):
This isn't football, obviously, where the backup quarterback never really
played unless something catastrophic happens. Backup point guards in the
NBA really really matter. And TJ McConnell I thought it
was gonna be the best backup point guard in the
league last year. So, you know, does that mean the
rookie Taylor Peter will get a crack at point guard?
I've been impressed with I've seen what I've seen for
him so far. But at the same time, you know,
(04:40):
you're relying on some guys who probably haven't been in
those roles before.
Speaker 8 (04:43):
Has the bet been placed, Kevin?
Speaker 7 (04:45):
The bet? Yeah, it does need to be placed now
that now that you say that, Yeah.
Speaker 8 (04:49):
I'm gonna need that number. We need that number two.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
To confirm with Jason Hammer. Him and I were chatting
about this earlier. I think the bet I'm gonna go
with is the Pacers is a top six seed. I
think he got that at plus like three thirty.
Speaker 8 (05:01):
So not win total. You're just gonna go I like
that one, Okay.
Speaker 7 (05:05):
That is it probably is a little more juice, honestly
than win total, to be honest with you. So for
our non betters out there, that would be like a
ten dollars bet to win thirty three dollars if it
was at plus three thirty. So Jason hammerg joined us
at nine thirty. I want to confirm with him and
go from there.
Speaker 12 (05:21):
Max Bones college fund and Rosie's college fund is, what
is this? How many years in a row have you
hitting out?
Speaker 6 (05:26):
For three years?
Speaker 7 (05:27):
I think this will be year four? Yes, so knock
on that? Would you mentioned backups? Are we gonna get
our first? Riley Leonard NFL snap on Sunday.
Speaker 8 (05:38):
Garbage time.
Speaker 11 (05:39):
He's gonna say, you gotta be clear here, Kevin, Yes,
knock on some wo man.
Speaker 7 (05:45):
Thank you guys for making me clarify that. Yes, garbage
time thank you, Mark.
Speaker 11 (05:49):
I think it's a real possibility the way this team
has been scoring. Man, you get up and the third
or fourth quarter and you're up twenty points. Put the
rookie in, let him get his first NFL experience, and
let's do to dame slash. Colts fans really bask in
the glory of him being QB two.
Speaker 7 (06:06):
I'm gonna throw some minutes at you tonight for the Pacers.
And to be fair, James, I got no freaking idea,
Like I have no idea what the second unit is
gonna look like I know, and so this is an
exercise I did yesterday. I'm like Kevin, this is just
sounds stupid, but here we go. I got Nembar playing
thirty two minutes, mather In thirty two, Nie Smith thirty two,
(06:27):
Pascal thirty two. Just throwing rough numbers at some starters.
Speaker 9 (06:30):
Okay, that's fair.
Speaker 7 (06:31):
My center combo, in some way, shape or form, does
an add up to forty eight. Some of these guys
will play power forward, mainly Obi. I got Isaiah Jackson
playing twenty starting. I got Jay Huff getting twelve minutes,
and I got Obie Topping getting twenty. I think you're
gonna see some Obi at the five lineups.
Speaker 9 (06:47):
I think they could be their best lineup, And like
I said yesterday.
Speaker 7 (06:50):
Is that what you finished the game with if it's
close ooh?
Speaker 11 (06:55):
I think it probably depends on the opponent. Maybe if
if you want a bit more rebounding. But even then,
like you look at some of these guys that they
have in center position, they don't rebound that well either.
But I think it might be a field thing for
Rent Carlisle where you probably prefer.
Speaker 9 (07:08):
To end with that lineup, but you kind of.
Speaker 11 (07:11):
Got to go based off of how the game has
been flowing, because like I said, I think that's a
gimmick key kind of lineup, not that they can't be
competitive or successful, but I just think when you have
Obi at the five that has like a shelf life
on it and that clock is ticking as much as
he plays at that position before teams kind of figure
that out.
Speaker 7 (07:26):
So it's tonight more of a true center lineup then,
because it's chet Holmgrin and Isaiah Hartin, then.
Speaker 11 (07:32):
I do think you probably need a little more true center.
And I mean even then, looking back at the finals,
or trying to go back too far, you were able
to get away with a lot of obi top it stuff,
but again you had Tyree's Halliburton running the show. I
think that changes so much when it comes to shot quality.
You know, how evolved guys are on the offensive end,
how you're able to turn defens in to offense so quickly.
(07:54):
So if that isn't happening, yeah, I do think you
probably want to have more traditional big out there because
you know, okay, see with their you know, length and size,
they're going to try to obviously crash the glass on you.
And I think that if anything is they're off and
they could just get five to six extra shots at
the rim, then that could be the game.
Speaker 7 (08:13):
Again, no McConnell. So the other bench minutes I threw
out there, I do think you could see some point
forward from Jaris Walker. I gave him twenty for tonight.
I gave Ben Shephard sixteen, Johnny Furfey probably his first
kind of true meaningful clock in the NBA. How about
fourteen minutes for the Man down Under? And then I
(08:34):
will go with Taylor Peter, the second round pick out
of Liberty, also getting some point guard run which he
is not a point guard. Yeah, Rick Carlisle shared of
does he literally went up to Tayling Peter the other day.
He's like, hey man, you ever play point guard? Let mean,
can you imagine? I mean, this is the NBA. This
is not you know, fourth grade to Romeoville, you know whatever,
(08:54):
reck ball here, Taylor Peter.
Speaker 11 (08:56):
So it's a fourth grade reg ball. Want a championship
with my sister back in.
Speaker 7 (09:01):
The day, can your sister who my.
Speaker 9 (09:04):
Sister was like 'run our test?
Speaker 7 (09:10):
She she had to.
Speaker 11 (09:11):
You know, the basketball career did not last long for
my fiery and spirited sister.
Speaker 7 (09:16):
You can go a long way if you're gonna play
some defense like that. I'll give Taylor Peter ten minutes.
Speaker 11 (09:21):
Okay, I think I can get with that. I'm very
curious to see what Benig Maverins role looks like in
his minutes and what that entails on both ends of
the floor, because like we said, oh, you want to
be more pacers like and move the ball and make
quick decisions. But at the same time, I'm like, wait
a second, if things get stagnant, I want to be
able to hit the Benedict mathere will get a bucket
(09:42):
button because you're gonna need that. I think more often
than you did last year with Halliburton in the lineup
and then defenses, like you said, because of his size
and length, and I do think Matheren has like the
physical archetype to kind of, you know, be a fairly
good defender. But you know, if you're doing the blind
him do that, how much does he have at the
other end as well? So I'm very curious how all
(10:04):
this shakes out because you're having to sacrifice certain things
to sort of flip your I don't know your strengths
a little bit, because Andrew Nimharner, for example, is such
a great defender, but you just can't expect him to
do that and also be your primary ball handler for
you know, thirty five minutes a night mark.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
Let's give this audio again for those that missed it
earlier in the week. You did have a deadline for extensions.
We saw Aaron E. Smith get his ayttacked two more
years onto his extension. He already was with the team
for two years and now it became, I guess a
four year deal. So he is definitely part of this
core here for the foreseeable future. Benedict matherin which I
don't think it was very much a surprise to us
(10:45):
no extension. So right now he will be a restricted
free agent coming up next offseason, so the Pacers will
have first negotiation rights, you know, match offer sheets, all
of that. Benedict Matherin yesterday on the no contract extension, I.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Mean, listen, it's not it's not that big of a deal, man.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Obviously, you know, well, we'll love to but uh.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
I'm no, I'm not worried. I'm not worried about that.
I'm not I'm not worried about that, man.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
You know, it's just about going to the going to
the game, going to the season. My mind's trade knowing that,
you know what, I can have a great season, you know,
and uh, and I can actually be who who who
I been wanted to be. So you know, there's no
worse for me about new extension.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
So again, I think Matherin kind of sides with everyone's
general thinking and James and we've talked about this over
the last few months. I think I understand why both
sides would probably say, you know what, let's see this
play out. You know, depending how it goes, you might
get an answer. In February around the trade deadline. Yes,
(11:51):
this is true. That's just a bit of reality that
you can't totally ignore.
Speaker 11 (11:56):
And I believe Matherin is going to be a restricted
free agent correct after the season, meaning the Pacers can
match any offer, but like you said, you might get
some movement before then.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
And like I mean, him guarding Shade and Night, I mean,
that just sounds wild to me. Like I know, I mean,
I just a you're so used to him and them aar.
I mean, you know, we just I mean we were
ingrained with that for seven games, and obviously their history
growing up and everything.
Speaker 11 (12:24):
Because Jared's out there as well, does he draw a
little the SGA assignment given his length?
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (12:30):
Yeah, because again Jared Walkerton play in the finals, right,
So I mean that's a very interesting proposition.
Speaker 9 (12:37):
And SGA guy just he scores in his sleep.
Speaker 11 (12:40):
I was watching the other night and the season opener
and it's like, oh, he's not doing much and then
he ended with thirty five. So yeah, again, this will
be a very strong test open the year for you
against the defending champs, obviously, But at the same time,
I would expect Bene Mathering in particular to be a
guy who you know when he said he doesn't care,
I think he does care. But I think he approaches
(13:03):
basketball with the right level of like brash neist with
is like I don't care what anybody else thinks mentality
that is honestly kind of endearing when it comes to
him as a player. This is the same guy who
called Lebron James before he played an actual NBA game
and hasn't blinked since.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
How about this news here from Sham Sharnia Olshams. Yeah,
Miami guard Terry Rogier arrested this early Thursday morning is
part of an FBI sports betting gambling probe Eastern District
of New York and FBI director Cash Bettel will hold
(13:43):
a press conference at ten am Eastern to announce arrest
from investigation. Oh boy, that's a little bit more prominent
than what's his name's brother? Porter?
Speaker 9 (13:56):
Yeah, yeah, I mean Terry Roseier was.
Speaker 11 (13:58):
You know, he's a roads an NBA player, a good
NBA player, but you know, maybe some questions about why
you weren't so good in certain games.
Speaker 7 (14:07):
This is amazing to me, Like Tiro's year, I have
no I mean, he's been in leaf for a long time.
At this point. I mean, I'm gonna guess this dude's
made well over one hundred million dollars. Well, what in
the world, Like, what are you getting from a gambling
aspect that's satisfying your financial risk in that?
Speaker 9 (14:24):
But you know what, I think, are you getting.
Speaker 7 (14:27):
Adrenaline rush by hitting the under or whatever he's doing here?
I don't know if he's you know, if he's doing
himself or if he's just simply betting on other NBA games.
But like, I'm just dumbfounded by seeing particularly these guys
like again Porters, like how much money he's made by
the way, I mean, he's got to be well over
one hundred million, right, one sixty? I mean think about that.
Speaker 11 (14:52):
But I mean, do you think that's why it's an addiction?
Though I'm not excusing it, but I think whenever I
see stuff like this and when things don't makes sense,
there's the only explanation in my eyes is like you
are you must be addicted to doing this?
Speaker 12 (15:06):
Well do the world we live in we have billionaires
that are like, how much more money do you need?
And they always say more? So maybe you know, right,
And I'm sure.
Speaker 11 (15:15):
We'll get more information out of this like, I don't
know if you owe somebody some money or got in
with the wrong guys. But yeah, I've talked to I go, yeah,
but we've talked about this when Isaiah Rodgers went through
his suspension.
Speaker 7 (15:26):
Here, which again Isaiah Rodgers and like Porter's brother James,
I mean they were barely in the league at their
respective points. Terroorjira is legit.
Speaker 9 (15:35):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 11 (15:36):
But my point about that is that I always am surprised,
like you said, about the idea to do that, but
also the idea that you're going to get away with it,
because if there is one thing we know about laws
here in America, money laws, brother, those are hard things
to you know, just kind of skirt. You can get
(15:57):
away with a lot of things, but you know, not
like paying the irs for example, or something like that.
Speaker 9 (16:02):
It's not one of them.
Speaker 11 (16:03):
So I don't understand why you think you could get
away with something like that. And also they have people
who will get paid a lot of money to regulate
or check any irregularities when it comes to sports, Betty.
So if you're if you go out there and you
stick it up and you know what, don't do it
during the show. But you know, commercial break or after
the show you google Terry Rozier, you know, point shaving.
(16:25):
There's some highlights out there where you're wondering, like are
you playing real basketball?
Speaker 9 (16:29):
Like what are you doing?
Speaker 11 (16:30):
So, yeah, it's it's very interesting and certainly a world
of trouble for him. But yeah, people get paid a
lot of money to make sure that you're gambling correctly, because,
like I said, no one's going to give up that
gambling money easily.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
My center expectation for the Pacers tonight, low bar well,
don't gamble on the game year, don't hack, rebound, and
Jay Huff hit an open shot.
Speaker 9 (16:57):
You know what you saw.
Speaker 11 (16:57):
I feel like you sound like every Indiana high school
basketball coach.
Speaker 7 (17:00):
Don't hack, don't hack, read about crash glass, and hit
an open shot. I don't even know if Indian high
school basketball coaches would say hit the open shot. That
I might be giving you too much credit.
Speaker 11 (17:10):
True, but I will say this, Jay Health can shoot.
He can't in the preseason did not. But I mean
he's probably the exception. Now if I was Jackson Sun
won't step out and shoot the three ball, crash glass.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
He's more of the don't hack well exactly and Huff.
Both of them had issues found I'm.
Speaker 13 (17:26):
Worrying about the center position though, you're right and like
again Obi, with that group, yeah, that's probably your best
offensive group, but when you're playing Chet and you're playing Hartenstein,
you probably need a little bit more of a true
center in there.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
Rim protection was I think, you know, I thought Miles
waned a little bit at that aspect of his career
last season. But still, you know, he offered you more
than I think what you have right now on the roster.
So those are my center expectations for tonight, low bar.
But can you check those boxes because in the preseason
that and turnovers was really wolf. In the preseason, turnovers
(18:03):
was really wolf.
Speaker 11 (18:04):
Yeah, and again they want to play fast, but playing
fast can be a detriment to you if you are
not playing clean and fast because that could lead to
obviously points alternatalles for other teams. So a lot of
challenges for this Pacers team, and I think you're gonna
go through some growing pains, and I would costion everybody
that tonight, of all nights is going to be a
test that will certainly, you know, in might stress you
(18:25):
out at times, but I wouldn't make it, you know,
referendum on your entire season because we know what okay
so he does with their defense and how good they are.
So it's almost like you've been thrown into like the
PhD course and you're just like, wait a second, I'm
you know, trying to get a one hundred levels stats
class done.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
Fifteen minutes away. Jack Doyle gonna join us there the
Colts Pro Bowl. Ty Dan who have enjoyed him and
Matt Taylor have done some podcast here within the Colt season.
It's a great listen. Jack hint of recap in every
game and obviously he's been very fond of the other
eighty four with Tyler Warren. This season.
Speaker 12 (18:58):
One of the more stressful days of college when you
had to go to the first day of class, like,
am I in the right building?
Speaker 8 (19:03):
Am I in the right class? Am I gonna sit here?
Speaker 12 (19:05):
And all of a sudden they're gonna say, like, welcome
to Economics four hundred? This is not right, I'm in
the wrong building. Should I go to lunch already? Those
are stressful.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
Struggling with the U Indie campus map marked.
Speaker 12 (19:16):
I mean you're always like, hey, is this is the
class I'm supposed to be at like I think so, Like,
oh boy, that's not good.
Speaker 7 (19:23):
Speaking of college, this guy had a great run in
college to round out his collegiate career. The NFL start
hasn't been maybe what many thought of James You think
j T Tooey Maloyle, the rookie at Ohio State, gets
an expanded role coming up this weekend.
Speaker 11 (19:37):
He should, right, I mean logically, I feel like that's
kind of similar to what we were talking about Jalen Jones,
Like you know who else you're gonna play at that position?
I mean, who else are you going to turn to
if you're down to of your defensive ends, if your
a second round pick from this year can't get in
at that point, I'm gonna start asking questions like what's
going on? We're two months into the season at this point,
(19:57):
and I get that he might not be where you
want him to be for a LU and Rumo scheme
that from what I understand talking to different players is
quite complicated. But man, if he can't get in and
you don't have any bodies, what are we doing?
Speaker 4 (20:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (20:09):
Based off where the Colts are at right now, and again,
Sansuin Avicom listed a week to week he had a
brace on that right knee, so I would assume he's
gonna miss multiple games. He didn't practice US today. Taekwon
Lewis Shane listed him as day to day, So you know,
I feel like in that lingo, maybe there's a chance
for Sunday, but if he's not gonna play, Yeah, Tuey
Maloaws probably your third DM.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Now.
Speaker 7 (20:30):
I understand the cam Ward game plan might be a
little different than how you rush other for sure quarterbacks,
but yeah, this should be an expanded role for him
and Jalen Jones at corner, you know, with him back
and then Tavarius Ward's got to miss three more games.
There are some names at corner that, Okay, we should
(20:50):
get these guys back, you know, maybe sometime in November,
but we should get them back at defensive end. There's
really not those guys, right, tuy Maloaw is probably the
closest to it, right, But you know, again, rookie all
of a sudden, having this huge second half of the season,
I don't know if that's totally fair to throw those
expectations on. What do you take from Jalen Jones chatting
with the media yesterday, This hamstring injury has been very
(21:11):
nagging for him all off season long. Back to practice
yesterday for the first time in over a month.
Speaker 9 (21:17):
One he was very adamant about practicing.
Speaker 11 (21:19):
That was before we even knew that he would, and
you know, through the question out there is like, I'm
definitely practicing, and like, okay, well that's a good sign.
Speaker 9 (21:25):
And then he was talking about how.
Speaker 11 (21:28):
Mentally tough it's been because he had the hamstring issue
pop up during training camp, missed a ton of time,
then fights his way back for the season opener, and
then gets hurt again for his game back, and he
was saying, yeah, I definitely shed some tears.
Speaker 9 (21:44):
Those were his quotes about.
Speaker 11 (21:46):
That, and just kind of navigating that for the first
time in his career, because if you look at his
NFL career has been very durable the first two years
and this year kind of an injury plague. Then then
he's kind of in a unique spot where he would
really go there, Kevin, I know me And you kind
of pressed them on it, like, hey, do you think
you could you know.
Speaker 9 (22:03):
Boost his defense and more or less.
Speaker 11 (22:06):
Earn your starting job back, and he was just like, oh,
I want to just help the team. It was very
business like. But I do think, you know, cut the
cameras off, give him some truth.
Speaker 9 (22:15):
Serum.
Speaker 11 (22:16):
He's probably thinking, hey, I want to be back healthy,
but b I want to show that you guys need
me as they do.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
Yeah, and I probably would consider myself like a member
of the Jalen Jones fan club, like I think he's
been a quality corner in the NFL.
Speaker 11 (22:32):
Yeah, but you know, like you said, though, the narrative
is are you a lou And Rumo?
Speaker 7 (22:38):
Right? Right?
Speaker 9 (22:38):
But I'm like, man looking at some of these other guys.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
That are you not?
Speaker 7 (22:41):
Like August twenty third, if you asked me, hey, what
do you think about Jalen Jones right now? I would
have said to you, I worry about him being a
Louis Rumo guy, right, not being a lou Aromo, right,
I guess is how I should say that. And at
the time, Xavier Howard was brought off the couch and
Jalen Jones just all of a sudden went to the bench. Now, well,
I think Blu's got no choice. Whenever Jalen Jones is healthy,
(23:04):
you have to give him an opportunity. And if Jalen
can play like you did in the first two seasons.
Then I do think he can help put a little
band aid over that situation right now. So, uh, you know,
there's part of me that thinks, okay, you know, maybe
this is a good opportunity for this opponent, Jalen Jones,
get a little run in the fourth quarter. And then
also part of me says, well to a various ward's
going to be out two more weeks. You know, maybe
(23:25):
you look at and say, hey, what about dk Metcalf
next week? What about Drake London in a couple of weeks?
You know, do you hold off a little bit longer?
But nonetheless, the fact that Jalen Jones is back to
practice good news for the Colts in their cornerback situation.
All right, coming up in about ten minutes, Jack Doyle
going to join us Thad Mada at eight point thirty
Pacers conversation be very centric coming up in the nine
(23:47):
o'clock hour, Kevin Bowen, James Boyd, Mark Dyton. Here it
is opening night Pacers and thunder here you can hear
it right here on the fans seven thirty tip and
thank you for starting your morning with US ninety three
five one oh seven five The Pride of the East Side,
former Pacer ball boy, which I think it's important to
reference that on a night like tonight. He joins us
here in the eight o'clock hour, Jack Doyle, good morning
(24:10):
to you, sir.
Speaker 6 (24:10):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Yeah, good morning guys. Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 7 (24:14):
Your Your favorite memory as a ball boy?
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Ooh, there're some good ones. I remember getting I wore
like a Ragley pair of shoes one day as a
ball boy, and Jamison Brewer gave me a new pair
of shoes, a new pair of basketball shoes.
Speaker 7 (24:31):
Shout out Jamison Brewer.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
Jamison Brewer. They on the side of them in sharpie
it said a town, and I remember rocking the shoes
all around town. But yeah, there's a ton of great memories.
I remember Reggie working Reggie's last regular season game. That
was obviously really cool. So yeah, really cool for a
kid who was obviously a He's Pacer fan.
Speaker 9 (24:53):
So Jack, I like to ask football players this all
the time.
Speaker 11 (24:56):
When did you know, Okay, the basketball court ain't my thing,
Probably should go to the grid iron.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Yeah, I don't know. Basketball is definitely my first love,
you know, and then going into high school, you know,
kind of got sucked into the Cathedral, Football World, and
and and just kind of stuck with football. There's never
really an exact point where you know, I thought, you know, football,
you know, that was gonna be my future, my true future.
(25:23):
So probably more like college. But yeah, you know, you know,
my advice to kids now is, you know, just just
play as many sports, play as many sports you can
for as long as you can, right because you know
it goes fast, and and enjoy it while you're in it.
Speaker 7 (25:37):
Is there any more debate than an NFL locker room
than who is the best basketball player?
Speaker 10 (25:42):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (25:42):
It's talked about constantly, constantly, and then you and then
they always go after like you know, there's always you know,
obviously the Colts and we have Moley Cox and and
he's the former basketball player, so every everyone's always going
right at him, right, so you know, they they're always
challenging Mo and being like, hey, I could take you,
you know. And and now there's basketball hoops up. I
think they got one in the indoor and probably one
(26:04):
in the team meeting room. But yeah, basketball is debated
constantly in the locker room.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
That is the voice of Jack Doyle. He's with us
here on the pay list.
Speaker 9 (26:13):
The picture of Jack Doyle guard would be I think Jack.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
Doyle could give the pace for some some minutes tonight.
That's that's just me. I mean center position right now,
it's a bit dire, so you know, we could we
could use him maybe to pick up some fouls if
nothing else. On Chet and Isaiah Hartenstein Jack. I asked
this to Shane Stiken yesterday, like offensively to me, it's
I mean, it's historic, it's surgical, it's clinical. Like to Shane,
(26:37):
I said, Okay, of all the numbers, of all the
things you've witnessed offensively, what is the most impressive element,
And I'll ask that to you of everything you have
observed offensively when you watch that side of the ball
right now, the most impressive element to it is what.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
The efficiency on first and second down? You know, it
just doesn't feel like we're in a third and long
really ever, and when we have been, we've converted. So
I've just been so impressed with with the lack of
negative plays and you know, maybe penlodies were up a
little bit early in the season and that kind of
you know, that's kind of just getting back into the
swing of the season. I feel like too, the refs
(27:13):
the refs included in that. But yeah, just the the
efficiency of this offense. And I mean guys, I mean, Kevin,
guys are running wide open. It's just crazy to see.
And I think Shane's just you know, I kind of
mentioned it, you know, you said, you know, we're doing
the doing the podcast with Matt Taylor. I just feel
like Shane's on fire as a play caller right now,
you know. He it seems like he knows what the
(27:35):
defense is doing, you know, before the play even starts,
and him and Daniel are so connected and the way
they're trying to attack a defense. It's just I mean,
I just as a fan, it's so fun to watch
this offense right now.
Speaker 9 (27:49):
Yeah, I personally.
Speaker 11 (27:50):
Think that Shane and Daniel are like AI components and
they just work well together.
Speaker 9 (27:55):
I don't think they're real people. I think they're kind
of just like robots.
Speaker 11 (27:57):
They go plug in and and download the new players
next week and to go out there and execute.
Speaker 9 (28:01):
That's why it looks like this so far. But Jack,
and more.
Speaker 11 (28:05):
Serious note, how much do you think the arrival of
Tyler Warren has changed the math when it comes to
this offense? Because, as you've seen, probably an understand more
than anybody else. The way they move him around is
very unique, and it seems like other teams can't quite
contain him because of the versatility.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Yeah, the versatility is huge. And that's a you know,
that's a play caller's dream is to have a tight
end that can that can do everything. And then you
combine that with Shane and and in the mind he
has and the way he sets up an offense, and
and always attacking and moving guys in different spots. And
you know, in the NFL, everyone runs the same concepts, right,
Everyone gets to the same spots and runs the same place.
(28:46):
But it's how you you know, it's how you you know,
put them in formation and the prestat motions and the
and hiding guys and and and the way you attack
can can look different, but you know, it's all guys
getting in the same spots. So when you have a
guy like Tyler Warren who can just literally do everything,
you know, you put him in the backfield and do
an I field blocks and then he's in the backfield
(29:07):
at fullback and you're sneaking him out on over routes
and corner routes. I mean, like I said, that's a
play callers dream. So I know Shane's just just loving,
you know, having Tyler on this team.
Speaker 7 (29:17):
He is mister Doyle to those at Saint Pius A
couple days a week as a pe teacher. He's with
us here on the Payloss Lickers hotline. That would be
Jack Doyle. And again the Jack Doyle Podcast with Matt
Taylor has been a great listen here in the twenty
twenty five season, Jack, I apologize. I do think it's
maybe a hair unfair when you're not necessarily in the building.
But you know, again, your observations I definitely holding high regard.
(29:41):
When you look at twenty nineteen, you guys got off
to a really good start that season. From a record standpoint,
I want to say, it was five and two, and
now you look at this year at six and one. Again,
I know you're not in the six and one locker room,
but just outsiders view, how do you kind of view
what you guys were doing in twenty nine team, albeit
survive in some of those games one score wins, versus
(30:03):
what you've witnessed here in the six and one start.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Yeah, the first thing comes to mind is, you know,
in nineteen they I don't know the scores of those
early games, but it felt like they were all tight
one score games. And the way that the Colts are
just dominating right now. You know, I just heard you
say the point differential, what was it ninety six or
something like that. I mean, that's just that's just crazy.
That's just crazy that And there's no been no letdown,
(30:29):
you know, from week to week. You know, you think
of the Titans game earlier in the year. You know,
we came out rolling right away after a great win
against Denver. So just not seeing the letdown and and
a lot of guys you know, are still around from
that nineteen team or you know around from you know,
teams that kind of you know, maybe we didn't carry
(30:50):
the momentum from game to game and you know, you
kind of didn't know what we were going to get.
So I think the veteran leadership has been huge early
in this season and keeping guys focus and locked in,
you know, and taking it week by week.
Speaker 11 (31:03):
So, Jack, your last year in the NFL was the
same year that Jonathan Taylor won the rushing title named
the first team All Pro. From that player to the
player you're seeing now, the difference is what.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Yeah, I mean, he was rolling at the end of
twenty one, and so I would honestly compare to what
he's doing right now early in this season to kind
of what he was at the end of twenty one.
I think the main difference is we probably have a
better passing game to go with that you know, will
go with right saying right now this season in the
way we're attacking teams because we're we're relying heavy on
(31:39):
Jonathan there and at the end of twenty one. But
you know what I've seen from Jonathan and the way
he you know, the details that he's you know, he's
practicing and putting in each and every day. You know,
I can think back to you know, when we played together.
He was always off to the side, catching extra passes
right and and always working on his hands. And then
(32:01):
you see the improvement he's had as you know, picking
up blitzes this year. I've noticed that early on, and
so yeah, he just he just continues to get better,
which is crazy because how good you know, how good
he was when he first showed up, and he's just
a high character guy and a great person. So it's
a lot of fun to see him rolling.
Speaker 11 (32:20):
That's what's so crazy to me is I'm looking at him.
I'm like, man, how did you get better?
Speaker 9 (32:24):
Seemingly?
Speaker 11 (32:25):
Now, granted, like you said, the offense is better, but
you were already a first seam all pro.
Speaker 9 (32:28):
That's nuts to me.
Speaker 11 (32:29):
But then on top of that, I have to give
some credit and I know you would love this to
the offensive line. I feel like you know they're they
have been understated, which is probably a good thing. We
don't missing the offensive line. They're probably not messing up. Yeah,
same as well. They've been playing well. But uh, for
a guy who played alongside Quentin Nelson when you see
(32:49):
him do his thing, I guess as a teammate and
then also on like television, Now, what is that like
to be in the same realm or locker room as
a guy who is unique at that position.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Yeah, he's special, man. I'm thinking of the block he
had on like the twenty yard run Jonathan had this
past week against the Chargers, and he, you know, reached
the shade, you know, a shade on the center and
cut him off and Jonathan goes right behind him and
goes untouched for twenty or whatever for a touchdown and
Quinton's just such a great leader too. I mean we
(33:24):
can talk about how he plays the guard position. You know,
he's a future Hall of Famer and all time great
and all that fun stuff, but the way he he
holds guys accountable. You know, you you don't want to
let Quinton down.
Speaker 7 (33:35):
You know.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
I remember back when we were playing together. You know,
I always got great joy out of like a Monday morning.
We'd be in there and Quinn come up to me
and be like, hey, on this play Jack. You know
that was an awesome block, and you know it made
me feel good. You know, he's highlighting you know, when
when when I did when I did a good job
in the run game or something like that. So he's
just a great leader. Obviously a great player man, and
(33:57):
he just you know, my f one of another. You know,
great thing about Quinton He's always the first guy to
go help up Jonathan too. You know. I always used
to try and raise him to the running back and
try and beat him there and be the first guy
to help up the back or the receiver whoever you
just got tackled. But he's always the first guy there.
It's like, man, how are you everywhere? And then still blocking,
you know, a premier defensive tackle. It's just is this crazy?
(34:20):
What he does? You know? Play and play out?
Speaker 7 (34:22):
That's a holy spirit ram right there on the Payloft
Stickers hotline, Jack Doyle with us here on this Thursday morning, Jack,
last one for me, and I really enjoyed you sharing
this story a few weeks ago, you know, on your
podcast with Matt Taylor, when the Cults are getting ready
to play Arizona, looked like Jacoby Brissett was going to
be the starter. Obviously, you and Jacoby plenty of history together,
(34:42):
I think, very close. And you told the story about
Jacoby's first start as a cult just to refresh everybody's memories.
Twenty seventeen, Scott Tolzene starts that first game, Jacoby had
just gotten traded here. It doesn't go well. Colts start Berseett.
Then that second week and you said there was a
moment in the huddle where you know, maybe the full
playbook wasn't fully known yet by Jacoby, and he just
(35:04):
looked at you and told you what what are you
running here?
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Yeah? That was awesome, man. So it was fun to
think of that because you know Jacoby come, you know,
the Cardinals are back for the first time in eight years,
right back to Lucas Oil, and the last time they
were here, Jacoby was starting for the Colts in his
first game. But yeah, that's one of my you know,
early memories. And in that that game, you know, we
played back in twenty seventeen and Jacoby's first start, I
(35:30):
was kind of, you know, running a middle read, so
you know, I had a you know, a steam bender
route if it was too high, and then if it
was one high. I was running a basic which is
like an en route at ten to twelve yard en route.
And we're in the huddle and Jacoby called the play.
Maybe we were like in a TV timeout or something,
and I remember him looking at me and be like, hey,
what are you running here? And I, you know, I
told him when I was running and he was, and
(35:51):
you know, when we kind of break the huddle, I'm like, man,
I go to line like I'm getting the ball, Like
he has no idea what else is going on in
this play? So I better be ready and I've better
get open, and we ended up hitting it for a
first down. So uh so, yeah, it was a lot
of fun, and I you know, I love Jacoby. I
was you know, I kind of mentioned this on the podcast,
like you said, Kevin, I was. Uh, I was a
little conflicted watching that last drive to be honest, when
(36:13):
the Cardinals were kind of driving, because Jacoby is one
of my best friends, and uh, you know, I obviously
want him to do well. But I was glad he
played well and the Coles got the win. But uh,
but yeah, Jacoby is a man.
Speaker 7 (36:25):
Yeah, it was a hell of a effort. Sound like
you played pretty well last week as well. All right,
Jack Doyle, pe teacher, What are we are? We three
days a week at Saint Pis Is that correct?
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Right now? To to Monday Friday, having a lot of fun.
You know, we're on volleyball now, so you know, Cyo
volleyball season for the girls just started, so they're super
fired up. I'm still trying to figure out how to
set these nets up. Any advice getting the yet, get
(36:55):
him tight. And then the kids are just you know,
they're purposely hitting the ball into the net. Yeah, just
hitting this heart and I'm just like, don't touch the net,
you know, don't touch the net or it's a lap,
you know. So so that's you know, that's the life
of a pe teacher right now. But no, I'm I'm
kind of joking. I'm having a ton of fun. You know,
they're a great group of kids. You know, I think
they're enjoying having me in class. So yeah, we got
(37:18):
roller skating coming up next, So wish me luck, you know,
hopefully I don't yeah, hopefully I don't break or wrist
or anything like that.
Speaker 7 (37:24):
But picture and watching like ESPN Classic back in the
day and all of a sudden, the Oat Show, roller
Derbyond and they're just elbowing each other over the over
the railing. Here your favorite either sport that you've taught
or activity so far in the gym.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
You know, I really enjoyed handball. We just we did handball.
So handball, if you know, you can't envision it, it's
a you know, it's basically, you know basketball with soccer.
You know, you use a kind of small ball that's bouncy,
and you can dribble, and it's a team sport and
you're trying to throw the ball in the net. But
if you can envision a basketball court, you can't. You
(38:01):
have to shoot from like the three point line and
the nets, you know, kind of at the baseline under
the hoop and you have a goalie and all that
fun stuff. And yeah, I actually had a teacher at
Western Kentucky, you know, when I was getting my physical
education degree who played for Spain's Olympic team in handball.
So I learned a lot about handball through him. So
(38:21):
it was fun to kind of pass that down to
the kids, and I think the kids enjoyed the game.
Speaker 7 (38:25):
It's like water polo on land. I feel like, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
Yeah, that's that's a good way to explain it, too good.
Speaker 7 (38:30):
Yeah, every time I watch water the Olympics, I just
am reminded about how un athletic I am, how.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
Much I can't swim.
Speaker 7 (38:36):
Oh my gosh, how I don't know how that how
they do that? So true. I'm just like, can I
just have a beer at the side of the pool.
The great Jack Dough It's been an awesome listen, Jack,
great work with you and Matt Taylor. Usually every Tuesday
that thing posts up and it's been a fun listen.
So I appreciate you doing that for all of us,
and thanks for hopping on today.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
Man.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Yeah, I appreciate you guys. Enjoy listening to you. Guys.
You guys do a great job.
Speaker 7 (38:57):
Let's head of the Palistickers hotline right now and says
good morning to Scott Agnes like that, Scott, welcome to
the NBA Beat.
Speaker 10 (39:05):
Every day is unpredictable, you got it, I mean unbelievable.
Speaker 7 (39:09):
I know you're probably just getting this news just like
we are. And details unfortunately are still a little bit vague,
but just your overall thoughts on these headlines.
Speaker 6 (39:19):
Yeah, what are we doing?
Speaker 10 (39:21):
Like, come on, guys, like you've made millions in a
great league like the NBA, and yeah, we don't know
too much more well beyond that, but when you accept
money from gambling, you also accept the consequences and in
these cases that might be that that way, And I mean,
(39:41):
Adam Silber, one of the main questions he's asked about
during all interviews is gambling, the impact, the.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
Concerns and every day.
Speaker 10 (39:49):
I'm sure it's something they have to talk about at
the headquarters of New York City.
Speaker 11 (39:53):
Scott, I need you to, you know, put out a
statement on behalf of all Beat writers when it comes
to covering NBA team and say, hey, I don't actually
want to go cover the mafia as well, So let's.
Speaker 9 (40:05):
Just make sure that all the Pacers on the up
and up there.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Breaking news from ninety three five and one oh seven
to five.
Speaker 12 (40:13):
The fan Damon Jones of the NBA has also been
arrested with the FBI in connection with charges announced today.
No indication he's tied the bet on games, but according
to people familiar with the matter, he has also been arrested.
Speaker 7 (40:26):
Damon Jones like the old school basket.
Speaker 8 (40:27):
Damon Jones, former NBA player.
Speaker 9 (40:30):
Yeah, coach.
Speaker 14 (40:30):
I think he coached the Cavaliers for a little while there,
Like like I'm picturing shooter Damon Jones, Right, that's a
good shoot.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Okay, gosh, unbelievable. Well, at this point now, I guess
we just sit here and hope that nobody associated the
Pacers are involved with this.
Speaker 9 (40:45):
I don't want Scott to work like that.
Speaker 7 (40:47):
They cover the game really really j Yeah, let's can.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
We talk about that. Yeah, we got to celebrate the basketball.
Speaker 7 (40:52):
Yeah, sure, Scott. I feel like at this point, every
NBA team has played besides the Pacers tonight, seven thirty
inside of game bridge Field House, point Guard Center? Which
one you're more careious about tonight?
Speaker 10 (41:07):
I'm more so center, just because this could be something
that they are concerned and dealing with all season long.
Whereas point guard, I think it's kind of just can
you get to the next month, and in the meantime,
you can have fill ins and guys can play out
of position, but maybe, like look, center, you got guys
that have never been full time starting centers here in
(41:29):
the NBA, two guys coming off significant injuries, and nobody
really played confidently or solidified themselves.
Speaker 6 (41:36):
Or did it well enough job of staying out of foul.
Speaker 10 (41:39):
Trouble in the four preseason games that we were able
to see. And you look around and what was the
biggest takeaway, at least for me opening night was size, physicality,
aggression that was both played by the players and allowed
by the officiating. And if that's the case, that's something
where the Pacers obviously will have to adapt.
Speaker 7 (42:00):
Can you survive I don't want to say eighty two nights,
but can you survive a majority of your nights with
Obi topping as the five man?
Speaker 10 (42:11):
That's the probably the question they're having to discuss in
the coaching room throughout this week is I think that
would work in Spurs. I just don't know if it
can be there full time just giving the different matchups
and the size discrepancy right there against Houston or perhaps
even against an OKAC like we'll see tonight.
Speaker 6 (42:29):
With with some of the size that they have.
Speaker 10 (42:32):
Now, I'm a big proponent of playing your best group,
playing the bunch that you are most confident in, rather
than adapting to your opponent all the time, right, depending
on the oponent.
Speaker 6 (42:44):
But I think that's that might be the case for
this Pacers team this season is.
Speaker 10 (42:49):
Roll a different center out depending on who's out there
and leaning into it.
Speaker 6 (42:53):
But is it sustainable all season long? I'm just not
seeing it.
Speaker 11 (42:58):
So, Scott, when I look at this roster, obviously, you
know who the core four is. In one of those
core four, Bitt Matherin, is I think in a more
unique situation than the other three, just because of this
contract situation. So what in your mind would define a
successful Bentig Matherin season and can that be paired with
a successful Pacers season?
Speaker 10 (43:21):
Yeah, That's that's been the whole thing all along, right,
is do his skill does his skill set in him
at his best match and empower the Pacers to be
at their best. I think I think what a very
successful season for him would be to be one of
the top would to finish the season in the starting lineup,
which mean it worked out, it would probably be a
(43:43):
top three score on the roster. And have all of
us been like man, He really locked in defensively, took
ownership at that end of the floor, took pride on
that end of the floor, and he has us wanting
to see more out there. And so he's still very young.
He's being asked to do very different things that he
has in the past.
Speaker 6 (44:05):
It's just can he do it within the flow of
the offense.
Speaker 10 (44:07):
And as much as they want to play fast and
use that as their weapon against all these teams, you.
Speaker 6 (44:15):
Don't want the ball to get stuffed.
Speaker 10 (44:16):
Do you want to make that half second decision like
so many of the coaching staff has talked about.
Speaker 11 (44:22):
And Scott is that Do you think that's a bit
counterintuitive to a degree because you don't have Halliburton. Because
part of me, I'm not gonna lie if this offense
gets a little stagnant. I want to be able to
hit the Maverick will get a bucket button.
Speaker 5 (44:34):
Now.
Speaker 11 (44:34):
I think they could come in handy this season considering
that you're not going to be operating at your highest
offensive output.
Speaker 10 (44:41):
Totally agree there, Yeah, absolutely, there'll be times, especially as
you know the grind of the NBA season, the third
game and four nights and all right, so who's got
the energy?
Speaker 6 (44:52):
Oh it's mad? All right, Let's just keep feeding.
Speaker 10 (44:54):
Him like we saw in that one preseason game where
he has what like twenty one points in the first half. Like,
you don't want they nix his superpower, but you also
would like to maximize it within the flow of the
offense for sure. So I think to your point, I
think there can be good balance.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
There is.
Speaker 6 (45:09):
You can encourage this one thing.
Speaker 10 (45:11):
But look if if the matchup is good or the
way in which the opponent's defending them, hey, let's lean
into that. I think that's one thing about this coaching stuff,
as well as the adaptability and how they don't get
pigeonholed into any one thing, and they're not calling a
lot of plays. I think along the same lines as
they might have to call more plays, may have to
call situations to get them more organized into flow of
(45:32):
things when you don't have your franchise point guard able to.
Speaker 6 (45:36):
Do that for you.
Speaker 7 (45:38):
Is it too early to make a joke about this?
Johncy Billups gambling thing.
Speaker 8 (45:45):
Leave Scott out?
Speaker 7 (45:47):
Well, yeah, I know, I probab should wait till Scott
was off the line. I'm simply relaying a message here,
this from Wes on our text line. I think we're
all familiar with you know, Detroit Piston's PA announcers, you
know Detroit basketball. Yeah, I feel like I have that
ingrained in my head from those Pistons teams. Didn't They
often say Chauncey blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
(46:09):
But Billups, wasn't that also kind of a kind of
a go to phrase. How about a Chauncey blah blah
blah blah blah busted?
Speaker 9 (46:20):
Oh lord nothing boom No, not feeling that one, brother, I.
Speaker 6 (46:26):
Think it's well played. It's just the sensitivity of the moment.
Speaker 7 (46:29):
Oh come on, Yeah, it's the Pistons man. I thought
that would give Mark Dykon to crack a smile. Gee.
Speaker 12 (46:36):
His bigger issues right now. He's got the mafia on
his tail. I think he's ducking the cover.
Speaker 7 (46:41):
Do you answer the door for the FBI or the mafia.
I'd probably vote for the latter, honestly, Uh.
Speaker 12 (46:45):
It's gonna the mafia look like in twenty twenty five.
By the way, you don't know.
Speaker 7 (46:49):
I love how James clarified earlier He's not a part
of the mafia.
Speaker 11 (46:52):
Be my strong boldie on door DA running late, trying
to make sure you know we get everything you know
on up and up.
Speaker 7 (46:58):
James got his PACER's bucket head on record.
Speaker 11 (47:00):
Make us You're like, hey, anything I've done, you know,
if I downloaded music from lotwire, I apologize.
Speaker 7 (47:07):
How many YouTube MP three converters have I done in
my day? Scott will end with this and Mark's been
playing these montages, you know, kind of all morning long
from last year's run. If I removed remove Halliburton from it,
one memory for you from last year's run would be
what you can't pick Halliburton good or bad?
Speaker 6 (47:26):
Yeah? To me, I come back to the city KB,
It's my hometown.
Speaker 10 (47:28):
It's the way in which this team or sorry, this
city rallied around this team.
Speaker 6 (47:33):
How much joy it gave.
Speaker 10 (47:34):
How many times on walks around downtown Kevin, I was
walking and seeing just Pacer flags hung.
Speaker 6 (47:40):
Up like that took me back to childhood.
Speaker 10 (47:43):
Where where this was not just a you know, happy
to be here, This was not just hey as it
may yet it's time for the Indianapolis five hundred. So
for me, it was the way in which this team
represented themselves on the court, and then as much so,
how much the fans rallied behind that message and became
believers in a group that, without the belief in themselves,
(48:04):
would not have gotten as fart as they did.
Speaker 7 (48:06):
Yeah, I think that's really really well said. You know,
I remember saying it after watching Game seven unfold. Kind
of had a college high school feel to it, and
how connected I think so many fans felt towards the Pacers.
So get it started again tonight again seven thirty. Tip
you want to be in your seats though, Honor Nancy
Leonard also have the unveiling of the Eastern Conference championship banner.
You want to make sure you're in your seats for that.
(48:26):
Well before seven thirty, Scott Agnes field House files his
coverage is there, Scott, A lot to get to this morning.
Appreciate you being a good sport Absolutely happy New year
you guys. Well it's been a hell of a Thursday morning,
I must say. Mark Dyiton excellent per usual. Queued up
the Goodfellow soundtrack. I thought that was appropriate on this Thursday.
(48:47):
I love it, Yes, I love very very good. As
we have a gambling probe involving a couple of NBA
individuals and Terry Rogier and Chauncey Billups separate the Billups won.
And I say this in all seriousness about the headline
involves a poker whatever, a poker game or probably plural
(49:08):
games with the mafia right now.
Speaker 2 (49:11):
Listen, don't be surprised. And again we don't know anything yet.
Presser's at ten. Don't be surprised if that's Russian mafia,
because those dudes have been running poker and gambling rings
around this country for years. Most high profile example if
you remember that movie from about twenty years ago with
Matt Damon Rounders, Oh iconic movie Teddy KGB running the
(49:33):
poker ring right paid that man his MANI like, I
don't know, Maybe it is americanized, you know, standard Italian mafia.
Speaker 7 (49:42):
Could be.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
We don't know yet, but don't be shocked if it's
Russian mafia. But I will say this is if Scott
Foster is a part of this by Parlay Hiss, I'm
one Scott Foster away from cashing that.
Speaker 14 (49:56):
Fo you just for probably all of like NBA Gambling
Twitter right in Texas earlier the show Ladies, by the way,
the voice of Jason Hammer.
Speaker 7 (50:06):
I think everyone knows joins us every nine third or
every Thursday at nine thirty here in football season. And
we do have some cheers ing to do after some
wins last week. But Mark has had these great montages
for the Pacers as they get their season started tonight.
And I mean we're talking awesome highlights. And the first
response we got on the text line early this morning
was Scott Foster cost us a championship. Like the there
(50:30):
we are four months removed, these great highlights of Halliburton
and Nei Smith and topping and this and that. In
the first one is yeah, Scott Foster the game four
push off from from sglieve the baseline push off there.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
They don't get the nickname of the fixer to guys
that are calling a fair game. Right even at Home Improvement,
nobody called Tim Allen the fixer, and his job was
to fix things.
Speaker 8 (50:54):
So I'm just.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Saying I'm one Scott Foster away from cashing that four
leg FBI parlay today.
Speaker 7 (50:59):
Let's go. We have a ton to get to with you, Hammer,
and you are ready to go here before we get
to your bets that we like and legal betting by
the way, here first.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
Chauncey Billups Lock of the Night coming up next, brought
to you by.
Speaker 4 (51:15):
And we'll do.
Speaker 7 (51:19):
I get tonight seven thirty facers thunder, getting your seats early.
Not only that Eastern Conference banner will be unveiled, but
they will honor the great life of Nancy Leonard. And
so you'll want to be uh in your in your
butts in the seats for that, and then get your
butts up because the standing ovation certainly for her. All right, Hammer,
we got some cheers in to do because last week
you told us Joe Flacco is the old man of
the bachelor party. That hit easily, the over hit easily.
(51:44):
We went too out of three last week. That's a
winning weekend. Everybody cheers, sights in the cheers. Here, have
a little shot.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
He's for you, double barrel, double oak woodford here, m smooth, excellent.
Speaker 7 (52:00):
Oh boy, that is beautiful there that in a cake pop.
What more do you need here on a Thursday morning
to get the jews. It's not even nine thirty seven yet, Okay,
So I know you like a little Pacers action. You
also like a Colt's long shot. But let's stick with
what Scott is here Thursday Night football tonight. I actually
like this matchup Chargers Vikings. Obviously long travel here from
Minnesota at Carson Wentz still there. I believe a three
(52:23):
point underdog as they hit the road, so tailor of
the tape here.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
Both teams had some pretty bad efforts last week, but
one team's at home, one team has a better quarterback,
and it's a field goal or less. I'm trying not
to overthink this too much, but I'm on the Chargers
tonight and we're gonna lay the three.
Speaker 7 (52:42):
Joe alt back. By the way, it sounds like the
Chargers stud tackle.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Which is going to be huge, and I just feel
like the Chargers are in a spot here. I trust
Jim Harball to get this group back with Soda squad
going on the road, riding the Carson Wentz experience, leaning
toward the under. But the official play in this one
is we're going to lay the three. We're taking the
(53:07):
Chargers at home. If I'm going to play it, I'm
gonna lay it now. Prop bet wise, we're gonna go
with Justin Herbert over zero point five interceptions. I think
you can throw the ball on Minnesota. I think you
can throw it on him, and I know Joe alts
back and maybe they want to try to run the
ball a little bit. But I still see pressure getting
(53:28):
to Justin Herbert. And we saw it last week as
Colts fans. You put a body in his face, he's
prone to throw it to the other team. So we're
going to ride the lightning over zero point five interceptions
with Justin Herbert and then tonight Keenan Allen over five
point five receptions. Like you get plus money.
Speaker 9 (53:48):
I like this.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
That's a plus money bet over five and a half receptions.
Feels like a little connection may have been started last
week and maybe that's the safety valve for Justin Herbert tonight.
Speaker 4 (53:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (53:58):
I so like we saw a ton of little signs,
least when I was out in LA for the Charges
gaming against the Colts with the third and Keenan signs.
Speaker 9 (54:05):
So third down looking for Keenan Allen. Right, Yeah, And
so basically we need.
Speaker 7 (54:08):
Herbert to throw it. I think tonight we want him
to throw it successfully towards Keenan Allen, but then have
one hiccup here. Okay, you and I mentioned this earlier
in the show. You said a little boost got you
those Pacers' odds to get into the bracket. Go ahead
and cover that because I know you and I had
that conversation earlier.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
So on Bette Rivers, one of the sites that I
play on, I had a profit boost. So not everybody
will have the same boost, but I had pacers to
make a playoff series. Okay, So they could in theory
be the tenth team in the play in bracket, but
you would have to win your way into an actual series.
Speaker 7 (54:46):
I mean top six, no, no, no, go ahead, it
could be top six.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
But if they get in that play in tournament as
a nine or ten.
Speaker 7 (54:55):
What just saying long, if they end up one through eight, right.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Right, you would have to win your way through to
get to a series, understand.
Speaker 7 (55:02):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (55:02):
At the time I made my bet, it was plus
two hundred. I think it's down to one fifty now,
but I had the profit boost which put it over three.
Speaker 9 (55:09):
I like that though.
Speaker 11 (55:10):
I mean, looking at how East wide open the East
is in knowing how hard the Pacers play, I mean,
if you can figure it out, it's center, it's a
little bit, you might be able to sting into the
playoffs with like a record that's under five hundred.
Speaker 9 (55:21):
Honestly, I just.
Speaker 7 (55:22):
Don't see them waving the white flag as quickly as
other teams will. So yeah, this is very simple. I
just plugged in right now plus one fifty two pacers
to make the bracket right one through eight ten dollars
bet gets you fifteen dollars and twenty cents.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
Vegas odds makers are saying the Pacers will not make
the playoffs because it's plus money for them to make it.
But if you have a boost of any kind, you
can throw it on that one and if they get
through the playing round or one through six, your toes
are tapping here.
Speaker 11 (55:48):
Yeah, I mean I could totally see them getting in
at like forty and forty two or forty four or
something like that.
Speaker 7 (55:53):
Right again, Jason Hammer with this here, Hammer and Nigel.
You hear him every afternoon over on our sister station
WIBC Degenerates, Next Dole or a couple gambling podcasts he's
got each week. Here. Is there anything more pacers you like?
Or should we transition to this Colts long shot?
Speaker 2 (56:08):
Let's do a Pacers bet tonight's okay, first made three
pointer by a Pacer tonight, first made three pointer? You
can get Benedict Matherin at plus two ninety five. I
want contract year, Benedict Matherin. I got a feeling if
the balls in his hands, it's going up. And all
I want is an opportunity here.
Speaker 7 (56:29):
Yeah, because neon green light looks like a highlighter party
in college, right, So yes, And this is just for
the Pacers first made three pointer.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
Nie Smith is the favorite, and then it's Matherin, Siakam,
Nimhart and Jackson. But there's not a lot of difference
between those folks. I think Matherin at plus two ninety
five feels right.
Speaker 7 (56:47):
I can get behind that. And again, he's never seen
a shot that he doesn't like. There on that, okay?
And then where are we at from a Colts? And
plus two ninety five is pretty good juice on that?
Where are we at from a Colt's long shot? Because
do you are you a philosophical never touch a fourteen
point spread? Do you have any belief in that? Like
a two touchdown spread either way in the NFL? Because
(57:07):
it's rare.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
See this usually if I find a home divisional dog
in the NFL, I'll hitch my wagon, but here you've
got a very heavy home divisional favorite. Fourteen feels like
a lot. Don't know if I want to touch that
one because that just reeks of a backdoor cover. I
can see the Cults being up by twenty one in
the fourth quarter, and then it becomes rightly time or
(57:31):
something happens and you get that garbage time touchdown. Cam
Woarred tries to be here right that beats you. But
if you want to get nuts, Okay, we're playing with
some profits this week because we had a good week
last week. If you want to get nuts, Jonathan Taylor
three touchdowns at plus eight hundred now, the Titans can't
stop the run.
Speaker 9 (57:52):
I think they're.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
Second to last in the league in defending the run
right now. And three games this year, and it's not
like the Colts have played a full season. Three times
already this year, Jonathan Taylor's had three touchdowns in a game.
The odds are against you. It's certainly not a lock,
but I think plus eight hundred for Jonathan Taylor three touchdowns,
(58:13):
I think it's worth taking a look at boys.
Speaker 11 (58:16):
You know what, I actually kind of agree with that
because I think I threw this out out there the
other week. He've got five games in his career with
three or more rushing touchdowns, and three of them have
happened this year. Right, For five seasons, it was two
this year three.
Speaker 7 (58:32):
And that juice on that again, just for our people
out there that are not you know, maybe as in
tune to the plus and the minuses, that would be
ten dollars to win eighty. So that is a very
healthy return on investment there if Jonathan Taylor gets in
the end zone three times.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
Looking at the Titans here, they've allowed eight hundred and
two rushing yards on one hundred and seventy nine attempts.
This is from the NFL Stats four point five yards
per carry. In terms of ranking, they're thirty first out
of thirty two teams in rushing dence this season.
Speaker 7 (59:01):
And Jeffrey Simmons is out, they're arguably their best defensive player,
arguably their best.
Speaker 2 (59:05):
Player period and cam Ward if you're looking for a
prop on the other side, passing attempts over thirty four
and a half. If the Titans are going to be
in this thing, it certainly isn't because they're running the
ball down the colt's throat.
Speaker 4 (59:18):
Nah.
Speaker 2 (59:18):
If they're behind, they have to abandon the run. Take
a look at cam Ward over thirty four and a
half passing attempts.
Speaker 7 (59:25):
That is Jason Hammer again tonight after a win last Thursday.
He likes Chargers minus three, so win by more than three.
Keenan Allen over five and a half catches Justin Herbert
to throw a pick and then pacer action tonight. That
first three pointer of the game, boy, that always gets
my adrenaline going early in the game.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
That's good money man plus two NI ninety five for
the green light that has Bendic matherin.
Speaker 7 (59:49):
I have no doubt he will shoot the first three pointer.
It's more of if it'll go in. And then for Sunday,
Jonathan Taylor ten dollars to win eighty if you would
like plus eight hundred on three touchdowns or more.
Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
And listen, if we lose every bet this week, if
I go oh for three tonight, if we don't catch
any of our long shots, think of it this way.
Speaker 7 (01:00:10):
It could be worse.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
You could have to decide between going to federal prison
and ratting out the mob like Chauncey Billups is gonna
have to do.
Speaker 12 (01:00:17):
Yeah, worst ways to spend a Thursday. You're saying, correct, correct.
Speaker 7 (01:00:22):
That is an accurate way to put it. Again. Degenderate's
next Door a podcast twice a week. You can hear
him every afternoon over on sister station WIBC. He is
Jason Hammer Hammer, Thank you for the Woodford.
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Thank you guys. Let's win some money tonight. Let's win
Chauncey Billups like money tonight. Let's go bustin.
Speaker 7 (01:00:40):
I still think that's a good one.
Speaker 9 (01:00:41):
I'm throwing a tomato at your brother.
Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
Oh my god. Yeah, I got showed a good hop
out of here.
