Speaker 1 (00:00):
There will be no coasting into the weekend on this Friday.
We got a loaded one for you last night. Excellent
in the Icy Hot Bowl. I was going to screens
trying to watch a little Starting five on Netflix. Could
not encourage that more. For Pacers fans, you might need
a clean ext or two but excellent, excellent watch and
(00:21):
James Boyd Caleb Zuver first off, Happy Friday, Boys.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Happy Friday. We made its happy Friday.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
You are off tomorrow, correct to LA early morning, late afternoon.
When'll we flying out?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Well, unlike the boss man, I do know who my
flight is. I don't have to ask the missus. It
don't have to miss his task. But i leave at
twelve thirty five and I'll get to LAG. Got over
in Las Vegas. But I'll get to LA at about
three thirty.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
No that then I'll see us. Might be over by
the time you land, depending on what happens tonight, so
ton to get to Obviously, Colt Chargers will set you
up for a football Friday. The injury report has some
interest in Indianapolis and out in LA. The Pacers preseason
and finale. We get the Darren Dvrees era started tonight
in Bloomington. You're four of fad mada up there at Hinkle.
(01:09):
And speaking of Bloomington, I know Darren Dereze. A few
weeks back he looked up to the crowd there upstairs
and said, next rounds on him. Kurt Signetty could have
probably the next eleven point six thousand rounds on him
after that deal yesterday agreed to terms. James Boyd, money talks.
Is that what you said earlier in the week your
(01:30):
money always wins? What was the exact phrase that you uttered.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I think it was money talks?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
And I texted you as soon as that news vrogue
and I was like, I told you, not saying that
I'm some genius.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
We all knew this.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
When you want to keep a guy around, you tell
him how much you mean to him, and then you
give him a bag of money.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
He said, hey, stick around.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
So as I like to say, you cannot put loyalty
or legacy in the bank, but you can't put dollars
in there.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
So that's how you keep him around.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Officially eleven point six million annually. It is an eight
Excuse me, it is an eight year extension. I get
choked up looking at the numbers. So that is through
November twenty thirty three. If you look at a public
university college football coaches that slots right behind one Kirby
(02:16):
Smart and one Ryan Day, it is quite the commitment
from Indiana. I have no issue whatsoever. I think Kurt
Signetti brings that type of potential revenue into your university.
And you know, Signetti mentioned something the other day of
you know, we're now seeing some donors start to dip
(02:37):
their toes, and IU donors this would be start to
dip their toes in the football program and not just
be a basketball thing down there. And I thought the
Scott Dolson quote in the press release really struck home
when he said, as much as anyone, he believed in
what was possible with our program, and he's turned that
belief into reality. It's hard to argue against that, and
(03:00):
it probably has come at the perfect time with how
college football has also evolved in that he was able
to bring the JMU crew with him. You know, not
every head coach over the last twenty five years has
been able to do that, so that has helped. But
still just to act like it's only that I think
would be a disservice to him. So Indiana fans, I
(03:22):
think you can rest easy on this one and enjoy
the homecoming route of Michigan State tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Absolutely, I think that is a good way to kind
of summarize what to place and also.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Just to put it all out there. If he is
fired without cause.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Now I'm not saying this has happened anytime soon, but
just the sheer number, the buyo will be ninety three
point five million, I believe.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
So that is who is my good goat on Monday, boys,
my good goat from the weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
It was the agent you were said, fired coach.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Oh yeah, the agent of James Franklin. It might as
well just be the agents of all college football coaches.
I mean seriously, I mean they like, we were texting
a little bit with my family. I think you guys
know this, or James, you certainly do it. You know,
I married into a pretty big EU family and actually
they used to be My father Wall used to an
AU football season ticket holder. And one of my brother
(04:14):
in laws is like, hey, what do you guys think
about the deal. And he's a very kind of money
type of guy, and you.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Know, we're just like each other.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
He's all into the numbers and everything. And sure, in
a in a great world of hey, you would earn
that contract, you would have made the whatever, the quarterfinal round,
the semi final round, the national championship game. But that's
not how the market works with college football these days.
You your feet are to the fire. You have no choice.
(04:42):
If you're Indiana, they had no choice because Kurtz Signani's agent,
and Kurt strikes me as a dude that could play the
game pretty well.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Oh Penn State face on that guy, Yeah, I forgot that.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
You know.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Grandma had this picture of me in a Penn State
jersey from back in the day. Yeah, you know, the
whiteout's always been something that I've absolutely loved. Like the
agent and the head coach, they can play that game,
and I don't the guy who really had any choice.
And yes, it is a absurd financial commitment when you
say it in that light, James, But at the same time,
(05:16):
when you consider what a successful football program means to
your university, yes it's worth it.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
I also think the coaches not only use it for
themselves to get a raise, but they also use it,
in my opinion, as a recruiting pitch, Like when Dan Lanning.
A couple of years ago, his name was linked to
the Bama job and he put out this social media
video It's like I'm not leaving Leo DiCaprio, Like.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
They used that and platform that for sure, one thousand percent.
It's a great, great point. That's Caleb Zuber. If you've
missed it this week, he's been in for Mark Dyton.
Mark will be back on Monday. Jeff will be back
on Monday. But us three round in it out. I
was really entertained last night, boys, And you know what,
Jeff Record deserves a lot of credit because I said
yesterday like, is Aaron Rodgers really like kind of good again?
(06:07):
And Jeff was like, well, he's now two years removed
from the torn Achilles And you know what, Rogers was
slinging it. I thought the Hail Mary was going to
be complete at the end of the game. I've seen
that movie happen way too often. And when he got
pass protection there, I'm like, oh my gosh, is this
about to happen? And how about Joe freakin Flacco.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, I was gonna say Aaron Rodgers didn't know Joe
Flecko was my takeaway from last night. Did you hear
him talking about the plays after the game. He was like, yeah,
on the short week, there were just a few plays
out there tonight where he's like, I didn't know if
I heard the call correctly. I didn't know exactly what
to do. But he's like, I swear we hit on
every single one of those plays. And it's like the
mixture of the old guy can still play versus like
(06:47):
it's like the childhood backyard football.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Okay, we're gonna get the football.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
We're gonna run this, you know, just run straight and
turn right at that parked car and then we'll get you,
you know, in the end zone. So it was kind
of cool to see, and it was a back and
forth game and great game.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
What I enjoyed about it was I.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Kind of knew going into it, or at least the
last quarter or so, because of how the score was.
It was like, there's no way they can really tie
this thing up or go to overtime. It was always
just enough distance for somebody to win the game in regulation.
But great game, great atmosphere, and I'm sure Jamar Chase
is probably like icing his arms and legs after getting
what was it sixteen catches last night.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Of twenty plus targets.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
That is one way I figured that Joe Flackle would
ingratiate himself with his new team.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Youven fine number one.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
When this trade happened, I think I said to you guys,
like I love it for Cincinnati. I love that they're
attempting something. They're trying to save their season. You know,
is it going to work? Who knows? Is it sustainable?
Who knows.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
We'll say Joe usually tapers off after like games, but
for now he's also.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Throwing in some white outs that yeah, you're right, that
are some dudes and the t Higgins Wherewithal it's a
slide after making that huge catch there late and basically
for those that didn't stay up for it, Higgins makes
a great play down the sideline for a catch he
could have ran in the end zone that still would
have given Pittsburgh the ball back with about ninety seconds
to go, and probably the lead would have been sixish,
And instead he slides. They'd milk the clock all the
(08:08):
way down to like ten seconds. Evan McPherson hits a
chip shot field goal and they're able to win the game.
Great play by Higgins, but you know Jamar Chase even
said it this past week of like, or maybe it
was last week when they made the trade, of like,
I appreciate the franchise trying something, you know, I mean,
the Jake Browning thing was probably gonna end exactly how
(08:28):
you would know. And the thought is all right, in
some way, somehow we get Burrow back for whatever, four
games to go in the season, and we'd be within
a game of the playoffs. Like that's the goal. And
you know, flaccoh yes to your point, James, we've seen this.
You know, maybe it won't last or be as consistent
throughout the next two months, but he is capable of
(08:50):
some efforts like this. And if you watch the game
last night, that man, I mean they probably had three
or four drops too. I mean he was slinging it.
He was on target. Chase was incredible. Sixteen.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
I had a run in there.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
He had a run. He was turning back the clock
a little bit there. So an awesome Thursday night game.
Jason Hammer all over the over boom, all over old
man at the bachelor party. Flacco over on past attempts,
two of three, Jason Hammer last night on those picks.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
You know, the Hammer is feeling good. After that perform.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
I usually get a text from him when you know
some of these things hit up. Well, maybe he was celebrating.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
I was gonna say, is he Is he still with us?
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Too? Too hard?
Speaker 2 (09:28):
You know, I mean like a party.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Speaking of celebrating, I believe for the Pacers preseason finale tonight,
isn't that Rick Carlisle with his daughter right at UVA
for her formal? Is it Lloyd Pierce tonight?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:42):
So rec announced this a couple of weeks ago. He
was not going to coach in the preseason finale for
the Pacers. He will attend his daughter's formal at Virginia.
I believe it. Carlisle will join us coming up on Tuesday.
So we are six days away from their season opener.
Did you watch any of Starting five on Netflix?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
So?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
If I look very weary eyed, it's because after that
Thursday night game went off.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I watched the first episode.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
And I won't give you what any spoilers, but I
will say they provide a lot of background on the
players and like what has happened throughout their careers. It's
really not just this season, and it adds a lot
more context in depth to each character.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Was a little surprised by that in a good way.
But so far, so good.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I think it's excellent. I think it's really well done.
I cheated. I fast forward through each of them just
to watch the Halliburton part and then I don't want
to share too much today. But the final episode is
pretty much all about the NBA Finals and it works
because again, of the five players featured, Sga and Halliburner
(10:44):
two of them. And I'm sitting there last night and
I thought about throwing in the towel, and Matty Bowen's like,
we're not no, no, no, no no, we're watching this.
She was locked in. Now. A lot of it is
about his relationship with his now fiance Jade, and again
it's well done. I'll share maybe a thing or two
throughout the show. I don't want to share too much
(11:05):
because I think Pacers fans should watch it, and we'll
watch it and they don't want to hear, you know,
spoilers by any means. But just really really well done. Again.
The Starting Five documentary out eight episodes on Netflix, about
forty five minutes each, although the final one had me
midnight oil in it last night, as it was an
episode that you had to watch all the way through.
(11:26):
On the other side, what is the Colts injury report
heading into this Friday. I feel weird playing so much
Jim Harbaugh audio throughout the week, but I think for
a lot of Colts fans it is one of the
more special seasons out there. Maybe it was the first
time you became a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. Harball
had some great comments on that ninety five season in
true Harball fashion. Maybe we'll play that coming up a
(11:48):
little bit later in the seven o'clock hour. I'm Kevin Bowen.
That was the voice of James Boyd. Caleb Zuver's been
outstanding all week long. He's on the ones and twos.
It's us three getting it at ten o'clock here on
this football, basketball, hell, volleyball. Last night over a gamebridge
Field Outs, we got a ton final night of high
school football for the regular season. We got you covered
right here, ninety three five one on seven to five
(12:09):
the fan no time to mess around. It is a
busy Friday. Checkdown, James Boyd, let's start at West fifty
sixth Street. One final practice remains Colts and Chargers. The
injury report, I think is relatively straightforward heading into this
final practice of the week. I guess Ashton Doolan is
probably the one up in the air. But I assume
(12:30):
you're in the same boat as me, thinking Josh Downs
and Shavarious Ward will miss Sunday's game.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah, I think, yeah, I think those two guys will
probably be out for that game unfortunately. And you definitely
want to be on the side of caution when it
comes to concussions. And then when it comes to Josh's
I wonder if because the symptoms developed kind of later
in the week, did that, you know, could that affect
these possibility to be available for next week? So you
(12:56):
just kind of got to wait and see there, And
I guess the other things. Kenny Moore, he's limited in
practice again with the achilles. Do you roll him out
there or do you kind of play it safe for
one more week?
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah, it's a good point. I kind of almost forgot
about Kenny. I should apologize for that. This is kind
of where I'm at. It's been limited two days for Kenny.
From a you didn't put him on ir standpoint. He
should play Sunday. This is the right this is the
fourth game, like or else you should have put him
on injured reserve, but I don't have a great vibe
for some reason, I don't know. I just don't have
(13:27):
a great vibe on Kenny's status for Sunday. So we'll
see what today's look today looks like. Ashton Doolan has
missed the last two days with a chest injury. He
matters even more in a week like this because Josh
Downs is likely going to be out. Maybe it's eighty Mitchell.
You could promote somebody from the practice squad preseason with
folk hero Colman Owen and Laquon Treadwell are both on
(13:51):
the practice squad if you want to go that route.
Chargers starting to get a little healthier. I still think
offensive tackle wise, we'll see. Joe Alt did return to
practice their stud tackle, but he's missed a multiple weeks,
so is two days just enough for him? So again,
the Colt's a slight favorite of you guys. Seeing the
jerseys the Chargers are rocking, I have not actually believe
(14:12):
they call this Charger power. It's all gold. It's quite
those ones. Okay, it's quite the look for the Chargers
here coming up of it. Brace yourself, I think, especially
for ya I can hear him Gyse. I can hear
my mom and dad crying to the TV having to
watch that all right tonight inside of or I shouldn'tay inside
(14:33):
Gambrige Field that was down in San Antonio the Pacers'
final preseason game, or take on the Spurs James last
year in the preseason finale, they did play their starters
twenty five ish minutes. Yeah, so that's a good run
for them. But you got roster decisions coming up on Monday.
It sounds like we should see the preseason debut of
Ben Shephard. He has been out anything in particular you
(14:54):
want to see tonight.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Can your censor score? Let's just start there and not Yes.
Goal of basketball is to put the basketball through the goal.
So I do think that is something we have attention
to because as much as we want to talk about
Benedict Matherin, Andrew Nimhart, those centers. Although I do think
it's a step back from what you had last year
with Miles Turner, you want to see more from them,
(15:17):
especially if you consider it to be a committee. You
can't have you know, three or four guys, all of
them not really playing well at the same time.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Again, Thursday. The Thunder will be inside a game Bridgefield House.
That will be the regular season opener, game one of
eighty two for this year's version of the Pacers. All
Right college football for this weekend, I guess the games
take a little bit of a backseat approach when you
have the news item from Bloomington yesterday announced late in
the afternoon, it is an eight year extension through the
(15:45):
year of twenty thirty three for Kurt Signetti agreed to
this eleven point six million. If you needed Signetti's words here,
they were released by Indiana yesterday.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
My wife, Minette and I love Indiana University, Bloomington, the
state of Indiana. The people we've met with have very
strong feelings about President Whitten and Scott Dolson. And you know,
we've accomplished a lot here in a short amount of time,
but still have a lot of work to do. So
I couldn't be more proud to be a Hoosier and
I plan on retiring as a Hoosier. And the way
(16:21):
that this state has embraced us in our success in
football has meant more to me than anything else. So
I just wanted to get on camera and let you
know that Kurt Signetti is going to work daily to
make Indiana the best they can be.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Inject that into your veins there, IU faithful. They will
have Michigan State coming up on Saturday. That is a
four touchdown favorite there homecoming in Bloomington. I think I
misspoke yesterday. Purdue is three o'clock tomorrow. That spread continues
to shrink at Northwestern. It's less than a field goal
Purdue as an underdog, and we'll see how mother nature
(17:01):
reacts up in South Bend tomorrow night. Potentially some rain,
potentially some wind in the forecast. It is Notre Dame
taking on Southern cal in what is a massive game
for the Irish. Have to win to keep their playoff
hopes alive. And this could be the final time these
two teams play for the foreseeable future. We'll see about
the future of the rivalry very much up in the air.
(17:25):
Thursday night football last night one of the best games
I've seen really this year in the NFL. You had
the icy hot Bowl of Joe Flacco against Aaron Rodgers. Changed.
I thought both quarterbacks are great. I know Rodgers threw
a couple of picks, but I was very impressed.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
His second interception was incredible by both of them.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
You play on the ball, yeah, DJ Turner, that was
I mean, And yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
It counts as an interception for Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
But you're not going to see that probably again this
season where the guy just sticks his arm and there
right before the sideline and rips it away from DK
Metcalf and it's a pick. But yeah, to your point
about the quarterback play, it was as if it was
ten years ago. These guys were with their former teams.
You know, you got Aaron Rodgers playing like he was
when he was an MVP for the Packers, and then
(18:06):
you got Joe Flacco turning back to clock and looking
like the guy let the team to the Super Bowl.
So no wonder Mike Tomlin was so upset to have
one of his division teams offer rough Joe Flacco to start.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
And as you pointed out, with last night's result, that
leaves one AFC South team with un laws. One AFC
team excuse me, AFC team, I don't know, I said
AFC South. Yes, one AFC team, and that would be
the Indianapolis Cool. No, I mean, I don't believe in James.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
I got a couple of people who are only for
a couple of days until I'm like, relax, Can you
enjoy the next couple of days?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Then yeah again, you can't. Can't be reading social media
mentions and acting like all of a sudden everyone's gonna
agree on something. There, I agree with me. Major League
Baseball last night the Dodgers, they're on the brink of
it now. Tyler Glasstown, former Indian, pitched very well for them.
Feel bad for Joel a ericson a three to oh
the Dodgers lead. It's been all road teams in the ALCS.
(19:01):
The blue Jays get it done. Did see Max Schurzer
telling John Schneider, you go back into the dugout and
I'm gonna stay on the mound here. Very sures are
like moment there, the Blue Jays get it done. So
Tou tou in that series again. College basketball tonight it'll
be the Darren Devreeze era. Sounds like some injuries still
there in Bloomington, so a little bit of a shorter rotation.
(19:23):
He did say yesterday, has been pleased with the defensive
improvement from their trip to Puerto Rico and their ability
to share the basketball, which he thinks will be super
important because maybe not a lot of one on one
creators on this year's Who's Your Team? And again bad
Mona welcoming Michaeh Shrewsbury back into hinkle Field House. I
saw Gordon Hayward. Was that practice yesterday with amzim shoes
(19:44):
new rule? I don't know if I saw the shoes
laced up or not.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Gordon, Brother, you come back. You gotta show the kids.
I used to do this for real.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I'd watch a little one on one between Gordon Hayward
and Michael Jaia. Absolutely, and so it'll be Butler and
Notre Dame, Brad Stevens sn. I assume Brad'll be in
the building tonight, but Brady Stevens I walk on there
for Michael Shrewsbury at Notre Dame and the Purdue women's
volleyball team getting done last night over game Breakfield now
three to one in the Moan on Spike match over
(20:14):
Indie Anna. It is our final regular season night of
high school football. Weather looks to be great. It's honestly
been a great weather year for high school football. Dominic
Miranda on the other side, Greg Greg Straw eight, Matt
Taylor at nine. It's myself, Kevin Bow and James Boyd,
Caleb Zuber getting at a ten o'clock right here on
the fan super busy football Friday. We sprinkle in a
(20:36):
good amount of basketball tonight as well. We'll try to
hit all of it for you here throughout today's show.
But it is seven point thirty. It is still high
school football. And I believe our next guest who has
just been incredibly usually at this point in the morning,
he's three red bulls deep. He's injected something into his
you know, probably just energy drinks to be perfectly clear,
(20:58):
here probabusually already crowdsurfed. The fat heads are out and about.
I believe though those have been put to the side
for this Friday morning. Dominic Moran Operation Football from WTCHR.
He joins us here on the Payloslockers hotline. Are you
like on your couch right now? Is this a calm Friday?
He's in a snow No, absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
I will be moving forward, but I'm at the station
right now this morning. Yes, because it is true. Sadly
and unfortunately, Operation Football Sunrise Kickoff has come to an end.
But it was our most epic season yet by far
bar none. We did a seat end of season recap
this morning in studio. We will be delivering the twenty
(21:40):
twenty five Spirit Award trophy next week, so we pushed
ahead to that and after a little montage our editors
put together, it just went the show. What a great
season it was. Appreciate all the schools involved this year.
Awesome every single morning. But yeah, I have to get
up every Friday morning now, so I'm excited. I'm excited
about it personally, I love it.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Now again, we're We're doing the show from seven to
ten am, so I'm not maybe totally up to date.
Our morning anchors on Sunrise are who right now?
Speaker 7 (22:10):
That would be Julia, my fan, Julia Brooks.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Okay, so did they lift you up? Did you CrowdSurf
with them this morning? There had to be something right.
Speaker 8 (22:18):
No, they did decorate the studio though I'm about to
tweet the video or about to put the video out
on social media here actually conclude, but yeah, they did
the studio up really nice, said a lot of very
nice things, and team effort.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Team effort. I'm always very humbled to see the impact
this makes in the community outreach and everything. So no crowdsurfing,
but a lot of good vibes. That's what we do
on thirteen.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Sound like Tyler Warren answering a question Dominic Miranda.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Well, I'm just picturing Dominic Miranda right now in his snuggie,
you know, calling us and letting us know that Hey,
I am warm, I am indoors and I am you know,
preparing my body and spear for later this evening.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
One one last question of Operation Football.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
I know you mentioned that you all will us hand
out the winner of the Spirit Award. I guess how
does that work out? Do people vote on it? Do
you all decide? Take us through that side of things.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Okay, So, as we talked about throughout this season, knew
this year was the Operation Football Sunrise kickoff fan vote
in the morning to decipher where we would be going,
which was a raging success. I might add a lot
of fan interaction there and every school we went to,
you know, wanted us to be there, so that was great. However,
(23:33):
when it comes to deciding on a winner, that is internal.
So what we do here, everyone that had any sort
of part in the morning show and really throughout the
station any time of the day, we put a vote
out internally at WHR that people can kind of review,
Like we kind of know that the top two or three,
so we kind of narrow it down. It's pretty easy
(23:55):
to tell throughout the year, and then we kind of
decide on a vote. But I'll tell you this year
it was it was close, but I think we knew
who was going to win for the last handful of weeks.
So I won't reveal it right now, but I will
say I think we've come to a conclusion on who
the winner will be and deserving winner. There was a
(24:16):
couple of schools that absolutely would have earned it, but
that's kind of how we come to a decision. It's
not like me just executive decision or anything. Everyone who
had a hand in the morning show and it watched,
you know, they'd kind of go off vives like what
made them last, what made them really fired up in
the morning. Different kind of stuff goes into the rubrics.
So but I think we definitely chose the right one.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
An electric ta's right there from Dominic Randa of WHR
Operation Football, our final regular season week. Dominic I said,
before you came on, I feel like we've never had
a high school weather year like that. Oh my gosh,
it has been excellent. Tonight looks great again, Maybe a
little bit crispy in the air, but still looks pretty
good before potentially some rain this weekend. What do you
(24:59):
like our final regular season week of the year tonight.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Well, I like the weather, like you just said, I mean,
my goodness, picture perfect every single week. I mean, last
week was the first week that there was even a chill,
which I'm here for. I'm a fag, I'm a fall
weather guy. I'm an autumn myself, if I might say so.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
But anyway, great, said exactly.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Go Tiger's by the way, undefeated, rank eleven's the Division III.
So great week in store and setting the table for
sectionals at least small school sectionals coming up next week.
But our game tonight, and we're giving some love to Bloomington.
We're getting Bloomington South on the airwaves, all right, Rank
second and Class five A Center Grove paying them a visit.
(25:43):
That's right, We'll be taking our show on the road
to Bloomington. They are in our DNA, after all. We
got to show them some love. What better week than
the last week of the regular season. So Center Grove
coming off a crazy win against Lawrence North. Every single
game Lawrence North is involved in, by the way, is crazy.
They are like the epitome of what growing up Big
(26:04):
twelve football was with you know, Geno Smith playing Bryce
Petty or something. Ye, yeah, that is correct, so really
good stuff. Center Grove bounced back to looking to end
the season with just one loss. Bloomington South is eight
and oh but have they played anybody to the level
of Center Grove. I suspect not, so that should be
a fun game. Cathedral visits Warren Central. These are two
(26:27):
five and three teams who are better than five and three.
Cathedral is responsible for Center Grove's only loss of the season,
So very excited about that. Warren Central two back back
tough losses. The first one was Warrence North, Like I said,
crazy game, and then Carmel just looks ridiculous. So excited
about the Greyhounds, and we got them on the old
(26:48):
tube as well, visiting Lawrence Central, who's no slouch. HSC
is visiting Brownsburg. HSC was responsible for Brownsburg's only regular
season loss last year. So the Bulldogs, as if they
anymore motivation, Definisial right, perfect regular season. Well, the Royal
fwoard to them of that goal a season ago in
(27:08):
the last regular season game, So I think that Brownsburg
roles in that one because they're going to be upset
about that. Plainfield and Martinsville another good one in five
A that I like. Plainfield lost to White Win last week,
big win for the Warriors, and then Ben Davis North
Central we got as well, so solid slate and I
cannot believe we were about to be complete with the
(27:30):
regular season. It's been a fun year. Really good football
this year, really really good football all the way through.
So tune in tonight we'll be up Limington South five
and six, and of course we'll have all the action
for you and recap at eleven o'clock Eastern Standard.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Dominic is that Brownsburg team just to cut above.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
I know they're going for their second straight state championship,
but this year seems like they might even be better
than last year.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
I didn't think it was possible because watching them last year, like,
oh my gosh, they are good and that state game
against Westfield was a classic, and the regular season game
Westfield and Brownsburg this year was classic as well.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
They are a cut above.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
The only team that I feel things the way I
feel when I watch Brownsburg is Carmel this year. Big
credit to Kevin Wright in company. I mean that the
turnaround has been great. He clearly, he's a cut above
as far as head coaches go, clearly, but Brownsburg, man, Yes,
they're good. Ten of eleven starters on offense back is
what I was the number I heard thrown around Oscar
(28:31):
fry Slings at Brandon Sharp's. They got a flew of
running backs to everyone stays fresh like they when I
go to their games to get highlights. If I'm there
longer than twenty minutes, it feels like something's wrong because
I feel like I can get two or three touchdowns
within fifteen twenty minutes to be there, it's really impressive
(28:51):
to watch. But you know, any any given Friday, you
know something can happen. Like I wasn't expecting Westfield to
keep it as close as they did, and they about
won that game, so you know, who knows sex Every
game in a six A state run is tough. So
we'll see. But I'd be shocked if they didn't make
it back there for sure. I think I think we
all want the Brownsburg Calma matchup. Personally, I don't. I
(29:14):
think that is the matchup everybody wants. Hopefully we get it.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
But we'll see, all right, dominic, you know where I
want to go. Yeah, Saturday night under the lights, we'll
see what Mother Nature calls for.
Speaker 7 (29:28):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Could be for the final time in a while, the
University of Notre Dame in southern cal.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Which we don't need to go there.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Okay, the rivalry needs to continue, that's obvious. It's it's
it's a come on now, college football traditions. Come on,
all that makes sense. You got to have it, point blank,
you got to have it. The injuries at center make
me nervous. Ashton Craig out for the year, all of
a sudden, Gabe Rubyo, their top defensive tackle, Notre Dame
not going to have him on Saturday night. I don't
love that. I'm sweating thinking about it.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Your thoughts, Yeah, No, it's it's nerve wracking, to be sure.
I do think Mother Nature playing a role actually plays
in Notre Dame favor. I would agree because a just
like a matter of grittiness. I don't think I need
to say anymore. I mean, Marcus Freeman said it. If
snow is going to deter you from coming to Notre Dame,
(30:24):
then you're probably not a Notre Dame guy. If you
need to play in warm weather like the California soft
your guys over there, that's fine, you can do that,
but you're not a Notre Dame guy. What I will
say is Gruvio being out is super tough. Craig tough
luck for him back to back seasons with the injury bugs.
But this defense seems to me anyway, to have found
(30:44):
something in the past few weeks. Chris ash is getting
better and better. You know, I heard on the broadcast
and this is the first time I heard this. His
family still lives in Florida because he was a part
of the Jaguars staff last year. So like just from
a personal human like probably a tough transition in his
first year, and not trying to give the guy too
many excuses here, but just as like a human, that's
(31:07):
gotta be tough. So they were talking about that on
the broadcast. But anyway, be that as it may gotten
a lot better on the defensive side of the ball,
I still have some questions on the back end, however,
and we got to get home. So Rubio b now
is tough. But if it's going to rain if it's
going to be a matter of gritty and violence and
physicality like advantage Notre Dame, especially when you have Darian Price,
(31:28):
who needs to quit fumbling, by the way, and Jeremiah
Love in the backfield. CJ came back down to earth
last few weeks. But if you watch him and don't
think that he's going to be playing on Sundays after
next year, then I don't know what to tell you,
and I can't help you. That guy has the if factor.
The way the ball comes out of his hand, the
way he goes through his progressions, his poise, everything about
(31:50):
him screams NFL quarterback one day. So he's probably gonna
win the HIGHBNS next year, if not this year, because
if they win this game and go on a run,
he's gonna be in the conversation. I promise you that
in there, my Love will be too. But when it
comes to this game, hold them under twenty a lot
easier said than done, but hopefully mother Nature helps in
that regard. I think Notre Dame gets it done. Homefield
(32:10):
advantage is huge and put a sour taste in the
Trojan's valve, make him never want to come back. Part
of this rivalry even though they should and if it don't,
it's soft. But I think that it didn't gets it done.
But I share your nerves. This is the biggest game
of the season to date.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Gosh, I want to head by you.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
So Conn is in the studio so you can do
some drills or something after he just gave you that peptike.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
A great just third down pass block set right here
from Thomic Miranda looking like Joe Alt, looking like Quentin
Nelson back in the day in South End. Absolutely excellent.
I am thrilled. Our convos will continue throughout the playoffs.
Like you said, small schools will get going next week
playoff wise, we'll sprinkle in five A and six A
after that. In the Great Dominic Miranda whr Operation football
(32:53):
with us here on this Friday morning, Sir, enjoy tonight,
enjoy tomorrow night, and have a great weekend. Brother, Hey
always appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
You guys are the best.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Let's have a great Friday, great weekend. All right now.

(33:26):
your child's future today. Excellent excellent year with Dominic, Miranda
and boy whether it's been outstanding again. Pretty good slate
here in the final week of high school football, and
we'll get things started playoff wise pretty much. I think
it's all one, a four. I think there's a maybe
a five, a matchup or two next week with the playoffs,
(33:46):
and then we'll get the big schools involved after that.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
I'm excited for it.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
This is always as a former high school sports reporter,
this was always such a fun time of the year,
busy time of the year. Shout out to Dominic, Miranda Toyle,
Nidmrip from Indie Star. I'm sure it will be out and
about along with a bunch of other writers and stringers,
and so these are the stories that kind of, you know,
for a lot of kids, it decides what your high
school legacy will be as an athlete, and most of them,
(34:12):
we know will not be playing at the next level.
So this is due or die times. They gotta make
the most of them.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Speaking of the kids, I would say one of my
earliest sports memories got refreshed this week courtesy of one
Jim Harbaugh. I want to make sure we played this yere. Obviously,
Colts and Chargers coming up Sunday, four oh five. The
Cult's a slight underdog in this one. And you know,
the Cults moved here in nineteen eighty four, and you know,
(34:37):
for I guess are a little bit of our older audience.
They know full well nineteen eighty four to nineteen ninety four,
the Cults weren't good one playoff appearance, struggling times to
create a winning product, and then the magic of that
ninety five season occurred. They were nine and seven, a
lot of one possession games, not like they were this
you know juggernaut. Throughout the year. They go on the
road to face ironically, the Chargers in round one is
(35:01):
that Crockett a huge game. Then in round two it's
Kansas City, it's low scoring, it's Lamont Warren. And then
obviously the AFC title game. I think everybody remembers the
whistles not going the coltswy in that one Aaron Bailey,
et cetera, et cetera. In true Jim Harball fashion, he
wanted to go back down memory lane this week. Here
(35:21):
is the Chargers head coach, the Colts quarterback in nineteen
ninety five on that season.
Speaker 9 (35:27):
Been dipped in magic waters. That's that's what it felt like.
The entire season, just everything just falling into place and
you knew it and there was a great rapport among
among the players coaches. I mean, it was a ball team.
It was just a real ball team. One of my
favorite ball teams I've I've ever been on. Everybody's getting
(35:50):
to it working and also whether it was on the
field or you know, the training room, the meeting room environment,
every could laugh easy and uh, you know, just we
just worked hard and had fun doing it. I guess
if I could sum it up with a with a
bunch of great guys that come from behind winds, you know,
(36:11):
the the start callings, the Cardiac Colts, I think, and
things like that, Uh, just finding ways to win. And
it was it could come from anybody on the roster.
I mean, it could be Marshall Fall, could be Marcus Pollard,
it could be anybody. It seemed like every game, there
was somebody else that was contributing mighty uh to the win.
(36:33):
Is all all the guys on the roster that entire year,
you know, played a played a huge part, took everyone
and uh, everyone contributed, and I think that was great
for morale. And uh it was you know those moments
those games. I say it's dipped in magic waters, because
I mean there was there was some magical moments. You know,
(36:54):
there's some magic made. So it was. Yeah. Probably as
a player by far, my favorite, My favorite season was
the ninety five season.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
What if I just started talking like Jim Harball only
refer to the Colts as a ball team in the
your magic waters, magic waters. My kids would love it.
I think my wife would probably hate it.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
I think she was like, yeah, that's kind of cringe.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Yeah, really cringe. In all seriousness. I tweeted out that
video yesterday, James, and you know, again that's probably my
first sports memory. Like I can still see Harball and
the hail Mary, like I can see that right now
in my head. But I couldnot tell you how many
people reached out when I tweeted out that video yesterday
and saying that's when I became a fan. That's my
(37:43):
favorite team. And you know, it's kind of funny because James, like,
the Colts have won a Super Bowl, they've gotten to
another Super Bowl, and yet that's the team a little bit.
I think pay survives from last year of the cardiac
nature and the underdog story and not totally exec to
be there. I know you didn't grow a hell you
(38:03):
weren't even born in ninety five. Were you born in
ninety five?
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yes, literally the end of ninety five that year.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Okay, yep, so you have VID memories of course, oh yeah, everything,
But I.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Remember my first steps, by the way, I think even like.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
You've heard a little bit about that that team, well.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Yeah, for me, it's always like why is he in
the Ring of Honor? And people are like, how dare you? Yeah,
how dare you bring this?
Speaker 7 (38:25):
No?
Speaker 1 (38:25):
No, no, Like people do have that question, like why
is Jim Jim Harball played for the Colts for four years? Yeah,
ninety four, ninety six, ninety seven, Why is he in
the Ring of Honor? And it's a great question because statistically,
oh dude, I got killed for suggesting.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Oh man, it does you know Shaquille Leonard possibly getting
the Ring of honor.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
No way, he didn't play long enough. I'm like, wait,
what happened during this four year stretch? But then you
get the backstory, they're like a little different.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, and again I can remember Crockett going off against
the Chargers and then a really low scoring game with
the Chiefs that that next week, and so many change.
I know people play the what f games? You know
here with his NBA Finals run game seven, I know
a lot of people do. I'm and was reminded last
night watching Starting five, how big of a sour puss
I was the Monday after Game four. I think you
(39:09):
and Jeff thought about carrying me to my car after
that after that show there. But there's some what ifs
of that AFC title game too, which you know, when
you're nine and seven and you're on the road to
start the playoffs, you don't think of being a play
away of make it to the super Bowl. But pretty
magical run and the Colts will see Jim Harball coming
up on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
You saw me wearing my letter rip shirt Monday.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
I love that. I love that. That was one of
the big sayings from that ninety five year an old soul.
He is he is an old soul. Biggest advantage for
the Colts on Sunday is where James.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
It's a great question. I think your biggest advantage it's
possibly that their offensive line is banged up.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
More so than Jonathan Taylor against that run defense.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
I could lean there too. I guess I was looking
for like something that was kind of underlying. I mean,
JT is JT. This guy could probably go off for
you know, I feel like he's due for a twenty
yard game at some point in the season, right So
I think I'll.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Probably start there.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
But if I'm looking for more things that are like
less in your face, it is probably that offensive line.
When it comes to this Colt pass rush. If you're
ever going to have an opportunity to get after the quarterback,
it should.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Be this week.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Going through some numbers yesterday and justin Herbert, as great
as he's been, he has been pressured on forty one
percent of his dropbacks this season. That's the third highest
rat of anybody in the NFL. And if you look
at those particular pressures, forty eight percent of those have
been in under two point five seconds. So again, lie
(40:48):
out to Latu. You're looking at you know, Abu kom
Quity pay Tayekwon Lewis. Those guys should be getting some
pressure and it should be getting home and getting at
least a couple of you know, sacks or pressures on
Justin Herbert to keep him kind of off kilter again.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Coming up on the other side, Greg Rakestraw gonna join
us Matt Taylor at nine o'clock. We've got plenty to
get to here. It's not just football. It's a busy
night of hoops as well, so we'll get you set
with all of it. Kevin bow and James Boyd, Caleb zuover.
Happy Friday, everybody. Thanks for tuning in right here to
ninety three five one o seven five the Fan Friday,
(41:25):
eight o'clock. Greg Rakestraw going to join us here in
a few reminder, Pacers Spurs tonight from down in the
Alamo Final preseason game. Rick Carlisle will not be coaching.
He is over in Virginia, that would be Charlottesville, UVA
today for his daughter's formal, So Lloyd Pierce on the
(41:46):
sidelines there.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Jimmie, we need Abby Carlisle, we need the TikTok okay.
This is the only time you got to butter him up.
You're his child. I need this so to get us
hyped for the season.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
And I'm hoping we get, you know, a couple of picks.
I remember, if it wasn't last year, maybe it was
two years ago. Rick sent us he did some picks
from If I have a correct I think it was
a petting zoo party that he attended with the UVA crew.
Looked like a great time and Rick blowing glowing remarks
when he talked about it with us here. So we'll
(42:20):
see if anything of the sort here tonight for Rick Carliles,
his boys are down in San Antonio again as they
wrap up the preseason and Thursday will be the regular
season opener. Speaking of our all stars, he joins us
pretty much every Friday at eight o'clock. He is the one,
the only Greg Greg Straw, Greg, good morning to you.
Speaker 7 (42:38):
Good morning. Has the Rick Carlisle experience started for the
twenty five to twenty six season yet.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
Tuesday We're going to kick kickstarted on Tuesday with their
regular season opener on Thursday.
Speaker 7 (42:49):
Nice congratulations boys.
Speaker 1 (42:51):
That has must listen to radio, Thank you, Thank you.
As is this segment. I must selfishly say it's a
courtesy of you every Friday. I actually want to start
it here Rake. Yes, it is the final week of
the high school football season, but we just played audio
on the other side. Where were you in nineteen ninety five?
Speaker 7 (43:08):
I would have been a sophomore at the University of Indianapolis,
so wearing flannel someplace.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
Jason Women on the south side, playing excellent tennis. All
of those things is what Greg? Greg starting to be
point at a time, What do you remember about the
nineteen ninety five Indianapolis Colts that they.
Speaker 7 (43:27):
Made the playoffs? They obviously got hot at the right
time in January. They were kind of flirting with five
hundred almost the entire year, did just enough to get
in and then went to San Diego in one and
won in Kansas City when it felt like Antarctica.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
Yeah, that was a really guys. They've had a couple
of really cold playoff games, if my memory serves correct,
I think one of those Painton years was freezing at
Arrowhead or at whatever the old one was Kansas City
as well. How do you view Sunday? Do you a
measuring stick a little bit more? Considering you know who
you're playing quarterback wise and just overall, I think the
Charger is probably one of the better teams you faced,
(44:08):
or do you look at it in a different light.
Speaker 7 (44:10):
No, No, this is absolutely a litmus test sort of game,
just like the Rams game was, and that was a
game where you know, the Colts learned some lessons. But
this is obviously and this is the case for virtually everybody,
and this applies to the Chargers as well. Even by
the time you get the week seven, it becomes injury Roulette,
it becomes survival of the fittest and no Mooney Awards,
(44:33):
so or unlikely Mooneyward. You would think, what does the
defensive back rotation look like that we see Kenny Moore
coming back and then now from a wide receiver standpoint,
you know obviously Josh Downs, you know exactly what you're
getting every Sunday with him. I'm not sure he's playing
this week, Ashton Dooland while he wasn't heavily featured last week,
(44:54):
you know that his number is ready when he when
he needs to be now and maybe he's not playing,
and that obviously have a massive effect on special teams too.
So yes, this is a test for the Indianapolis Colts
because of the caliber of team they are playing, who
are going through their own injury issues, especially at the
tackle position. But we have already gotten to this point
in time of the year where almost whom you have
(45:18):
is as just as important as to whom you are playing.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
So Rake, when I tell you the Colts are the
only team in the AFC with just one loss, what
is your reaction to that? And maybe how surprised are
you considering what you thought this season would look like
coming into the year.
Speaker 7 (45:37):
You know, I mean, we thought the Colts should get
off to a really good start this year. I don't
think anybody expected this. Nobody expected this offense to be
this good. And clearly from a defensive standpoint, you know,
we have kind of seen things in flashes. But the
fact if you say the Colts independently have the best
record in the AFC, that gets your attention as worthy
(45:59):
of praise is no doubt with that. The storylines to me, though,
is the fact that the Culture are the only team
in the AFC with one loss, that that everybody is
so similar, everybody is so beaten up and beats up
on each other so much that we are going to
the seventh week of the season in a conference and
(46:20):
you've got a team that has a loss. That is
crazy to me.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
Greg Greg saw with u C i C Sports Network, Raig,
where are you to close out the high school season?
Speaker 7 (46:30):
Tonight's gonna see HSC and Brownsburg. So our second chance
to have the Bulldogs on Mayan d TV and obviously
deserving number one team in the state, being the defending
six to eight champs, having not lost so far this season.
Uh and from an offensive standpoint, as good as any
team in the state of Indiana and clearly having numerous
(46:51):
Division IE level talents on that team offensively as well defense.
I think they're getting better. It's a bit of a
work in progress, but Brownsburg is clearly amongst the two
or three best teams in the state, if not the
best team in the state.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
It's a credit to him that I even offer this
up to you. It might be outdoors, it might be indoors.
Your favorite David Bell Warren central memory was what uh again?
Speaker 7 (47:16):
For a guy that played in the National Football League
and was an outstanding football player? Got to be the
shot against Romeo, Langford and New Albany, correct has to
be has to be the semi state game, and not
just because of of that warrant team going undefeated, but
the amazing atmosphere that was a part of that day,
(47:39):
you know, knowing that it was eight thousand strong at Seymour. Frankly,
if they could have played in a bigger venue, you
know that that might have been the equivalent of the
Damon Bailey game at you know, the then Hoosier Dome.
You had to player that Lucas Oil. You might have
gotten forty thousand for that game because the demand for
tickets was so insanely crazy. My standard joke of being
(48:05):
at Seymour that day is, you know it's a major
event when they people were gonna wait and not in
line for tickets because tickets were sold out. People were
gonna wait in line to get in the venue to
get their seat. They had to put in porta potties
outside because they knew that's how long the wait was
gonna be to get in the Barney Scott Gymnasium. So
that day is one of my favorite days of what
(48:26):
I'd do for a living. And David Bell was the
guy that hit the game winning shot in that game,
So that is the memory that will forever be etched
into my brain and Ray.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Walk us through the final kind of minute or so,
if I remember correctly, Warren had to go the length
of the floor right when Bell hit that shot off
the glass.
Speaker 7 (48:44):
I believe it was four point six seconds were left
in the game when he went, if not eighty four feet,
went about seventy feet to make that runner from the
right wing.
Speaker 2 (48:55):
Yeah, I'm looking at the video now and this is
does he look so young in his video? That's great stuff, Rake.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
I know when we talk every week about this and
I'm just fascinated by it because I just think it's
absurd the numbers that Miles Gloughlin is doing down there
for you know this this team in knocks And so
what's the latest on his chase to be Indiana's all
time leading rusher.
Speaker 7 (49:21):
Well, he got a knight in front of us last night.
He played the rare Thursday night games. They were playing
Bowman Academy and Bowman does not have their own field,
so to get the field they wanted to use, they
played Thursday night. So Miles and eleven carries at north
of two hundred and seventy yards. He has become the
second Indiana running back and eleventh in the history of
(49:42):
high school football in our nation to rush for over
ten thousand yards, so he is about seven hundred yards
away from Charlie Spiegel. I want to say Charlie's is
ten eight seventy something in that range. I think Miles
is a little over ten to one at this point
for his career, so in theory, he could easily break
(50:02):
that within two games. Now. I don't have knasis sectional
path in front of me, but his rushing total is
already in for this week, and legitimately, given his his pace,
he is two games away from breaking a record that
almost everyone thought was an unbreakable record.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
One of our favorites. We talk with him at pretty
much every Friday at eight o'clock. Great Greg Straw with
us here of course, Colts postgame show host. And the
news item of yesterday, probably in our state, was the
contract extension for Kurt Signetti again eleven point six million
annually raked. That slots him, I believe third among the
public schools. I think that's higher than Marcus Freeman. I
(50:42):
don't know, I'd have to go back and double check that,
but through twenty thirty three, as Indiana waste very little
time after the Oregon game and with the penn State
opening to give him a second extension here upon being hired,
of course, less than two years ago. Your thoughts on
the commitment for Mindiana University towards their football coach.
Speaker 7 (51:03):
Uh, I'll use initials so Caleb doesn't have to have
the Duff button ready. Indiana University did a great job
of avoiding FAFO. I think you know exactly what I'm
inferring there. Just if you are having success, don't mess
with it. Play offense. This is not just because hey,
(51:26):
look at that one against Oregon. It's hey, Penn State
fired their coach. Hey, Kurseagnetti is from Pennsylvania. Hey, let's
make sure he stays here. This is the price of
doing business. This is this is when you play big
boy football. And we talked about this last week in
terms of some sort of revenue disparity between Indiana and
(51:48):
Oregon and Phil Knight's money. Well, somebody's got Phil Knight
money right in Pienna. It's going to Kurt Signetti. So
Zach Osterman's piece in the Star was great in terms
of just how much you know, revenues have increased, just
how much spending has increased, but you choose to be
in the Big Ten. You choose to be competitive in football.
(52:11):
This is the type of scratch you have to spend
when you are now consistently a college football playoff team,
and in my mind, doing it back to back years
makes you consistently a college football playoff team. This is
the price of doing business these days in Indiana. Is
here to do some business?
Speaker 3 (52:30):
Break last one I got for you before we let
you go. I know, girls basketball season is about two
and a half three weeks away. Boys basketball around the
corner as well. Do you start geting a little tingle
around this time of the year knowing that this is
what you do? Man, I feel like at this point
from here on out, I might see you every three
days for the rest of the calendar year.
Speaker 7 (52:49):
Yeah, I'm gonna say that's I'm not sure if it's
tarticular or if it's the sound of like the avalanche coming,
you know, one of the two. So, I mean, here's
the crazy thing, guys. I'm sure you have lugged this
at some point in time. Butler basketball on Fuego ninety
two point seven to night because of playing Notre Dame
Indiana University, they still play basketball there. They have an
(53:10):
exhibition against Marion, and so yes, the high school basketball season,
or a girls standpoint, really starts two weeks from Monday,
but the college basketball season starts two weeks from Monday. Heck,
and I see we're producing a college basketball game next
Friday night. So it's it's here, man, even though you know,
(53:30):
I'm still like wearing flip flops out and about because
it's so warm. But it's it's college basketball season, which
means it's high school basketball season, which means I'll see
my kids like the next couple of weeks, and then
I'll see him again in March. So just kind of
the passing of the time on the calendar.
Speaker 1 (53:45):
I suppose Eric Glen of this Joe listener Joe reached
out and said, I paid one hundred dollars for two
tickets to that New Albany Warren game. He said, you
were selling tickets for a benefit, and that was don
He said, he drove up from New Albany to pick
up the tickets from you. Who's your hysteria.
Speaker 7 (54:07):
That is my buddy Joey that listens to the fan
every day from New Albany slash Floyd County and his dad.
I guess technically was my uncle my marriage for many years,
and his dad, Joe was one of my favorite people
that walked the planet. So good morning, Joey. I'm glad
you're tuning in today.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
I love it. Ray Kevin Blast tonight, HC and Brownsburg.
And you know we'll be continuing these during basketball season.
Speaker 7 (54:30):
You got it, Fellas, we'll talk soon.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
That is our favorite, Greg ray Straw right there on
the Payless Slickers hotline as he points out James, Yes,
tonight up at Hinkle, you've got Butler Notre Dame. Saw
Gordon Hayward visited Butler at practice yesterday. Again, he's now
in one of these I don't know, I say managerial rules.
That might be too much credit, but we were seeing
some ex or current NBA players do this with their
(54:52):
former colleges. But you could see the background of their
new ribbon, boar, new video boards. Looks awesome up there
at Hinkle. So again, that's tonight in Bloomington. Tonight is
the debut of the Darreon Devrees era and I was
kind of reminded of this when Devrees spoke with the
media yesterday. So they'll play Mariyan tonight. We've seen this
now for the last couple of years. Obviously Pat Knight's
presence at Mary and Steve Downing. Of course the ad
(55:15):
there probably helps this game. IU will then play Baylor
next week in an exhibition, and Devrees has not messed
around with this non conference schedule. They played Marquette the
second game of the season. I think in the Mike
Woodson era, we were used to Indiana really coasting largely
in their non conference, but I would say particularly early
(55:35):
in their non conference. So you know, deres Is mentioned
in yesterday, Hey, we're a little banged up. Some of
our depth guys might not be ready, like they're gonna
play Marquette here quickly. So you know, some of this stuff.
I get its exhibition, I get it's Mary and et cetera,
et cetera. But still it's gonna come at you in
a hurry for IU basketball, and I don't know, maybe
no one cares because their football team's doing what their
football team's doing.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
I still think there's gotta be a bit part of
the state that's like, I want to be greedy.
Speaker 2 (56:03):
We've got our football back, but basketball to a.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
Lot of I would stay fans, that's probably the introduction
to I, you fandom in love is you know those
basketball runs from yesteryear, so excited to see that new
offense down there. It should be a little more I
think modernized with the three point shooting and things of
that nature. So Darren devrees, man, I guess you don't
have like a hard act to follow with the way
that Kerksing Netty has turned things around for the football program.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
Maybe on the other side, we'll give I don't know
a snippet or two from you and I both consuming
some level of the Starting five Netflix documentary last night. Again.
This is featuring Tyrese Haliburt and one of the five
NBA players on it. There's eight episodes. You and I
both binged it to some degree last night. I don't
(56:48):
want to reveal too much because I don't want to
be spoiler by any means, but I thought there are
a couple of things that really stood out to me
on and off the floor that I think Pacers fans
will really enjoy. But as we hit a morning down,
let's make sure we lead off with what's happening Sunday
out in Hollywood? All right, James, Will we sit here
on this Friday morning four Colts have yet to practice
(57:09):
this week. Those four would be Tyler Goodson looks like
continued absence for him in that groin injury, Ashton Doolan
has missed the first two days of practice with a
chest injury, and then two guys in concussion protocol, Josh
Downs and Shavarious Ward.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
Yeah, certainly concerning.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
When it comes to Mooney Ward and Josh Downs, I
would expect neither to play.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
So we've been talking about it all week.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
Kevin, what does it mean for your wide receiver room
if you are without Josh Downs and possibly Ashton Doolan?
And could we see Adie Mitchell get out of the
doghouse and return to the place where he had sort
of his biggest mistake of his NFL career by dropping
a touchdown the last time he was in LA.
Speaker 1 (57:49):
Shout out to Will Haskett tweeted at me yesterday when
I mentioned no downs, no Doolan's still a practice, said
something the effective It's a shame Jeff is out because
I feel like twelve catch Ady Mitchell game incoming here.
Speaker 3 (58:03):
Boy, that would certainly be welcome. When it comes to
Jeff's counter again, he predicted that Ady Mitchell would have
eighty catches. I reminded him that eighty catches would make
him probably one of the top receivers in the league,
a number one receiver on the team, and he said yeah.
And he also said that they would go for seven
hundred and fifty yards, to which I said, if that
was the case, the Colts have the worst offense in
the league. They do not, So if Ady Mitchell has
(58:25):
twelve catches on Sunday, I would imagine that he goes
for over one hundred yards.
Speaker 1 (58:31):
Yes, indeed, I am super curious see how they feel
that Josh Down's absence, though obviously Tyler Warren's presence helps
a big time. Do you call up Lakwan Treadwell or
coleman Owen from the practice squad? Do you trust Mitchell?
That was the guy that you put in kind of
that slot role last year and Dulan now you know
what's Dooland's availability. So definitely some end of the week
questions here. And what I think is one of the
more anticipated games across the NFL in Week seven, that
(58:53):
is Colts, that is Chargers would be Matt Taylor, Charles R.
Buckle along Flair over ten of course, on our airway,
and then the CBS crew it's their number two team.
You'll get Iron Eagle, You'll get JJ Watt calling coltson
Chargers four h five on Sunday. All right. Tonight in
the Alamo, the Pacers will wrap up their four game
preseason slate with the San Antonio Spurs. Roster decisions I
(59:16):
think due by Monday for the Pacers again, no Rick
Carlisle Tonight it'll be Lloyd Pierce coaching as Rick attends
the formal for his daughter there at the University of Virginia.
I think for the most part, James, we know the
starting five. You know, that was a little bit of
a debate, I guess coming into the preseason. But Andrew Demhard,
Benedict Matherin, aaron Ne Smith, obviously, Pascal Siakam, and then
(59:38):
it looks like Isaiah Jackson will be that starting center.
But after that you definitely have some questions on your
depth pieces. And TJ McConnell injury has played into.
Speaker 3 (59:46):
This absolutely, And you know, I think it's a little
bit of remembering the Dunk Farm Summer League and he
had a big time dunk in preseason. But I got
Johnny Furfey always intrigues me. You know, he's got heigh,
he's got the bounce. The skill set obviously very very
you know, I think modernized with the NBA and the
way the game is played. So is he someone who
(01:00:06):
could crack the rotation? We talked a lot about Jeris
Walker and Matherin's roll, all these things, but Johnny Furfrey,
somebody eye I continue to just you know, be impressed with.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
I'm curiosity play tonight. You know, turned that ankle. I
think it is second preseason game, so whereas he at
sounds like Ben Shephard will make his preseason debut. So
again that second unit. There's some injury questions as well
with that group, but it doesn't sound like anything too
too serious on the Furfey front. All right, last night
and Thursday Night football, it was an excellent, excellent football game.
(01:00:37):
Call it the whatever geriatric bull call it whatever you want.
Those dudes were slinging it. That would be Joseph Flacco,
that would be Aaron Rodgers. What a game for both.
Jamar Chase once again showed why he is one of
the best, if not the best, whiteouts in all the NFL.
I was not overly impressed by Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
We say this every year about his brain, and I always.
Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Have Aursday Night is awful for Tomblin, like this Reackground,
Thursday Night is weirdly terrible. But the Colts play the
Steelers in a couple of weeks. I was looking forward
to watching that from that standpoint. Honestly, I was more
impressed by Rogers than anybody else on that football team.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
Absolutely. I mean, that guy can still slingy. He does
look like he's healthier when it comes to recovering from
the torn achilles that he had a couple of years ago.
But yeah, Joe Flacco got the last laugh there, and
he did the wise thing of throwing it a lot
at Jamar Chase and t Higgins. That usually works out
well if you can, you know, have those two at
(01:01:32):
your disposal.
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
Sixteen catches for Chase for one sixty one. Flacco threw
for three forty two and three touchdowns thirty three thirty
one Bengals over Steelers, as James pointed out, the only
AFC team now with one loss. Indeed, Shane Steikens Indianapolis Colts,
speaking of football, speaking of money, thank you to Jason
(01:01:56):
Hammer for helping us out last night and winning two
of his three bets. A lot of money going to
Kurt Signetti down there in Bloomington. Let's start with the
Signetti reaction yesterday upon agreeing to terms on the eleven
point six million dollar contract annually.
Speaker 6 (01:02:13):
My wife, Minette and I love Indiana University, Bloomington, the
state of Indiana. The people we've met with, have very
strong feelings about President Whitten and Scott Dolson.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
And you know, we've.
Speaker 6 (01:02:24):
Accomplished a lot here in a short amount of time,
but still have a lot of work to do. So
I couldn't be more proud to be a Hoosier, and
I plan on retiring as a Hoosier. And the way
that this state has embraced us in our success in football,
it has meant more to me than anything else. So
(01:02:45):
I just wanted to get on camera and let you
know that Kurt Signetti is going to work daily to
make Indiana the best they can be.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
James, A couple of items sot out to me from yesterday.
First off, I laughed the clip I saw from the
radio show last night with Don fit Year when Kurt
Signetti pointed out ten years ago he was making one
hundred and thirty thousand coaching. I think it was Elon
if I'm not mistaken, maybe he wasn't even I don't
even think it was that Jmu yet and now here
he is the third highest paid coach in college football,
(01:03:14):
making north of eleven million. And also sometimes when you know,
you see these press releases from schools, university, et cetera,
just kind of a lot of throwaway quotes. Yeah, Scott
Dolton had a sentence, so that stood out to me.
Dolson said this as much as anyone, he believed in
what was possible with our program, and he's turned that
belief into reality. You know. Kevin Wilson had a flicker,
(01:03:37):
Tom Allen had the one year like there's been a
moment or two in the last you know, and honestly,
Terry Happner, if you want to go way back, but
Scott Dolson or excuse me, Kurt Signetti looked at Indiana
and made sure that nobody was going to talk about
them in the light that they used to talk about them.
And I thought that quote from Dolson really stood out.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Yeah, I think there was just a genuine disdain for
the level of apathy that kurtz Signetti inherited and he
wanted to change that and change that fast.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
And you do that by winning at the rate that
they have.
Speaker 3 (01:04:09):
And I took Kle's point from earlier when you went
at this level and then you invest in him, you're
also investing in the players that will continue to come
down the pipeline. A lot of talent here in Indiana
in particular, but you know, you want to build your brand.
You get a chance to play the college Fotball Playoff
for the second straight year. I mean, you got kids
from all over the country watching and being enamored with
(01:04:29):
that rebuild, and who doesn't want to be a part
of that culture.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
I you nearly a four touchdown favorite over Michigan State
homecoming tomorrow from got one thing abound with Sparty.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
There was also the I think Kurtz Signetti would probably
welcome to Forest Buckner to his program, you know, as
a walk on. I don't know if the guy can
make the team or not. But for those you know,
I'm just weren't your candy stripes right that he was? No,
I did get that question, but it's got to fill
you all in the Forest Buckner, the former Oregon Star,
lost a bet to the owner. Kaylan Jackson, the youngest
(01:05:03):
daughter of Jim irsay she's an IU alum, a proud
IU alum. So yesterday during media availability, the Forest Buckner,
who has had many people have to wear duck suits,
and he had Tyler Warren wearing Oregon gear. He had
to kind of take some of that medicine himself walking
in with the famous candy stripe pants. He had the
IU hat, the IU shirt. We had Kaylin Jackson on
(01:05:25):
zoom and she loved it and no Kevin. I did
get a couple questions. They were like, hey, did the
forest reach out to you? Did he ask to borrow
the pants? And I was like, I'm pretty sure his
bicep will probably ripped through my waistline.
Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Yeah, you could probably fit in those candy stripes there.
I don't know if those were Tijon Job's candy stripes
from back in the day and not a lot of
blooms and sizes I think fitting to Forest Buckner, but
he's a great support about it. Yesterday, so getting Indiana
huge favorite Perdue just two and a half point underdog
as they try to get their first big ten win Northwestern.
That's three o'clock tomorrow and the Fighting Irish with a
must have win over Lincoln Riley and the Trojans. We'll
(01:06:00):
see how Mother Nature reacts to that one Saturday night,
seven point thirty in South Bend. On the other item,
I want to point out here Major League Baseball road
teams continue to be the story in the ALCS. The
Blue Jays even that one up at two to two,
and I do feel for our guy. Joel a Ericson
talking to him yesterday, he wanted to hopefully have the
series get to a Game five so he could go
(01:06:23):
to Game five with the Colts playing in LA And
it was the Dodgers three to one last night over
the Brewers, so they are up three nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
I know, my boy's hurting.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
That is, like I said, Joel is such a professional
when it comes to reporting on the Colts.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Has done great work.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Actually check out his story on Casey Foyt, the middle
daughter of Jim Mercy, that he put out this week
at Any Star. But my boy rides away with his
team and he is currently on the down side of
the roller coaster.
Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
Slipping or two from the Starting five documentary with Tyres Halliburton,
James and I watch that varying degrees. Last night, we'll
provide that. On the other side, get your set for
Week seven in the NFL and Colts Chargers picks still
on the way. Thanks for spending this Friday morning with
us right here. It's the Fan Morning Show, a voice
of the Colts Matt Taylor every Friday at nine. He
(01:07:12):
will be with us here in about a half hour.
I did have a start yesterday. We're you know, Daniel
Jones and all these NFL award talks. Why doesn't the
NFL have Most Improved and Comeback Player of the Year.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
That is a good question NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
I mean, hell, the Pacers made a living out of
the most Improved Player of the Year.
Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
Yeah, but I don't think the NBA has the comeback
player though?
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Why not both? Tyrese Halliburton should be a candidate for
Comeback Player of the Year when he does come back,
Jason Tatum, et cetera, et cetera. And then you can
leave the most improves for the you know, Andrew Numhard's
of the world or you know, Victor Oldy, you know
the Pacers. About a lot of guys win it, because
like that's the thing with Daniel Jones is he coming
back from being bad. Yes, no, you should come back
(01:08:03):
from injury.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
But even then, are you gonna say he's the most
improved He's I mean let of teams in the playoffs before?
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
Well yeah, yeah, but that was in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Now, well, like it's most improved, like just from one
year to the next. If you have like a bad
season in like Baker Mayfield, sod he went most improved.
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
I think, Well, I don't know, act like Baker was
that bad last year.
Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
No, I mean like earlier in his career, like if he.
Speaker 1 (01:08:24):
I think that's what some of the debates can be about.
You know, you can make a candidacy for hey, he's
been bad, it's all career or you know, largely bad,
or it's just been one year. But to me, like
I think, especially in the NFL, when the sport is
so physical and you have so many guys get hurt,
I think that award should be saved for the injured
guys and then you should create the most improved.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
Right because we've had last couple of years.
Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
I'm looking now Gino Smith and Joe Flacco in twenty
twenty two and twenty twenty three. Now they didn't play
a lot before that, but they won it and weren't
injured or anything. So yeah, I think it's an point, Kevin.
I think that would probably clear things up and make
it a little more.
Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
Fair, because then you have the awkward like Damar Hamlin
and was it tamor Hamlin and Flacco? Was that the
same year? I think so, two polar opposite debates. Yeah,
Damar Hamlet comes back from almost dying and Joe Flacco
comes back from being a jet?
Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Isn't my boy, Joe Burrow?
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
Hey, I mean being a jet ain't great, but you're right,
it's being a jet might almost be like dying.
Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
It's been rough, didn't my boy, Joe Burrow? I want
to say, win that award twice, the Comeback Player of
the Year.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
He's going four third. I would imagine if you can't
make it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Back this year, so should there be a cap on
how many times you can win Comeback Player of the Year.
Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
Don't fry my brain too much on this Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
I'm just asking you.
Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
Sent me down this rabbit hole, and now you want
to just pull me out. Naw we in there together? Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
The biggest laugh I had last night watching the Starting
five Netflix documentary and again Tyre Salibert, one of the
five players around the NBA featured on this. It's great.
I will start there. The biggest laugh that Maddie and
I had watching it. They show tyresee in his car,
I think, driving to the Pacers facility at some point
(01:10:10):
and you get a nice shot of a Ken Nun
billboard in the background. I'm like, if no one learns
anything else about our city, at our state, that is
exactly what life is like to live here. Just Ken
Nunn billboards everywhere and the hammer guy. I don't know
his name, but the hammer guy.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
I will say, it's weird seeing the places I go
to all the time on TV in that because you
gotta think when you're covering a game, you're not watching
the game. So even when I watch, like though, if
there's a rare time I'm not like at the arena
for a big primetime game and it's just a shot
of like the Circle or downtown and I'm like, I
know that place, I know those streets, that's me, that's us.
(01:10:50):
So that's been unique to kind of, you know, embrace.
But also we had a cameo from Anthony Calhoun. We
did in episode one, so Tony East.
Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
Gets some audio love a little bit later. Again, it's
eight episodes, and I don't want to go too far,
but I'll just tease a couple of things. That first episode,
you're gonna get some Game seven action right out of
the gate. Now they'll go further into Game seven in
the final episode, but if you watch episode one, you're
gonna get Game seven right out of the gate. And
again shake Gil just Alexander is one of the other
(01:11:20):
players feature Jalen Brown, James Harden, Kevin Durant.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
He struck gold picking those two.
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
Oh gold. I know, madd He's like, how how lucky
did they get with this? I think you see a
different side of John Haliburton. Uh so you mean he is.
Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
He's not only the guy who went to Good Front Giannis.
Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
He is not only the guy that went to Good
Front Yiannis. Now you'll see some crazy out of John Haliburton.
Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
Good I'm not surprised that man lives off crazy oftentimes.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
I enjoyed that. Again, they really get into Tyreese's relationship
with his then girlfriend now fiance, Jade. You know, Maddy
really enjoyed that. I would also say one thing that
was interesting was and I know we played the Regi
Miller clip earlier in the week. That is a pretty
emotional scene. You do get a little bit of Reggie
(01:12:08):
in there. Tyrese expresses some regret about Game seven. I'll
stop there. It's not the regret that I think you
would think it is. Yeah, that is in the final episode.
So it was just a great, great watch. I thought
(01:12:28):
it was awesome. The cinema is just incredible. Yeah, the
way they build to this, the climactic moments of Tyrese's
shots in the playoffs, Oh my gosh, like you're watching
it and I had to remind myself, like, wait a minute,
this isn't a fake Netflix documentary. That was real. Yeah,
(01:12:48):
all that stuff was real. There was one really cool
moment where the Thunder as a team or at Shay's
house watching one of the Haliburton game winners yea and
watching them react to it and then live it in
game one was pretty cool. So sang Man now highly
highly endorsed watching it.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (01:13:08):
That was like two months of just waking up for
the show and knowing that the entire city was going
to be listening because this guy just did something incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
I mean, remember the morning after Jim Mersey passing, Yeah,
all the Penske drama and the Knicks Pacers game one, right.
Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
Yeah, that was one of the more unique shows we
had to do because there was this balancing act of
we just lost this icon for the city who helped
change the landscape of Indianapolis to Oh, by the way,
we can be happy because this guy just hit one
of the luckiest shots you'll ever see.
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
And I'll say it tongue in cheek.
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
I don't think Tyrese the run he went on was lucky,
but that shot definitely was. I mean, you can't replicate that,
but even just the choke sign. And in my mind,
I was and I'm a bit of a pessimist when
it comes to sports because I feel like sports can
just scar you. But man, every single time they got down,
they came back. I was thinking, all right, the next time,
(01:14:08):
they can't do this.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
And they would do it again.
Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
I think Game one of the finals is when I
really that's and I mean, whoop the do James He
got on board late, but I think after Game one,
the game winner that he had, then that's when I
truly started to believe.
Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
Oh, they could win this.
Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
When Shane missed the shot in Game one to go
up three, and I think it Nie Smith maybe got
the rebound or Siakam, and once they got the ball
to Halliburn, I remember vividly saying to myself in my
living room, he's going to do it again. And I
probably had some expletives in there. I think I started
with a holy belief and it might have been the
hard four letter work, like how is he going to
(01:14:44):
do it?
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
That was my thought.
Speaker 1 (01:14:46):
I'm like, I know it, but is it going to
be a step back over ty Jerome? Is it going
to be the ball bouncing off the rim? Is it
going to be taking Giannis to the hole? You know
which one? Is it going to be? So again, for
those out there, I would highly h encourage you to
watch it. It is emotional, but you also get multiple
sides of it. It's got a hard knocks feel to
(01:15:06):
it of like, yeah, it's not just all game footage.
You will get a good amount of that. But I
think it's a lot about Tyres off the floor and
he opens up big time about a pretty dark moment
from last season that I think he kind of hit
on at some points last year. But I've talked to
him about it, but the Netflix won. He definitely goes
pretty deep into that shout out to listener Mark, he goes,
(01:15:27):
just as you were talking about this at thirty eighth
in college. Nothing says blue skies, the sunrising, and Ken
Nunn's face looking at you at thirty eighth in college.
Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
There are certain little things about this city. You just
gotta love it and you don't understand what nine.
Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
It's just Ken Nunn, But this is Indian NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
That's true though, man.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
Like I said, the one lesson on the Pacers, I
remember I put a line in one of my stories
when they were going to the finals, and I remember
the theme of it was they want to be misfit
champions because it will be so different to me. It's
it's kind of like when you look at the list
of champions over the last twenty five years in the
NBA and there there's that one Pistons year n O four,
(01:16:09):
where it's like, wait, they got one, and Shaq was there,
and Tim Duncan was there, and Lebron was you know,
becoming Lebron, Like wait what? And that's what I think
all of us were kind of looking at for the
Pacers to do where it's like, if they win this,
it doesn't matter what happens, you know, before or afters
whatever they've put it there, you know, you got to
respect them as champions.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
And obviously they didn't get there.
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
And I think, you know, last game, the injury might
have changed things, but that felt like Wo's yours over
and over again. And I think putting that line in there,
you know, Bobby Plump and all that, it felt like
ty Reeves was channeling his inner Bobby Plump before a
lot of those shots.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
And that's a little tease to some of that Game
seven regret that Haliburton does have, so I definitely watch
that to check it out. All right, another side, Week
seven of the NFL Colts Chargers, I think one of
the best games of the week. We'll give our thoughts
on this week slate coming up on the other side,
that music doesn't make you think of b ball boy.
Do have some hoops tonight again the Pacers preseason finale
(01:17:05):
in San Antonio. The Darren Dvrees Era Underway exhibition against
Marion coming up tonight. Shout out to Ava Wadjenk, one
of my former students. I saw she's going to be
on the sidelines for tonight Big ten Network plus for
our Indiana faithful out there that wants to watch that.
(01:17:26):
They got some student broadcasters on the call. Absolutely love that.
Of course, at Hinkle tonight it is Butler Notre Dame
in the two year agreement for exhibition games, so it
should be fun atmosphere and a new riven Board, new
LED video there up there at Hinkle. But let's get
into Week seven. Guys, entertaining hardest easiest game, Caleb Zuber,
where do you want to start entertaining hardest easiest. Well,
(01:17:49):
let's just do entertaining first. Okay. The best game, the
most entertaining game you think of Week seven.
Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
Is what I think the Dallas Cowboys are, like the
league's best league pass team, And for people who don't
know what that means, is like if you have NBA
League Pass, there might be a team that's kind of
a fringe playoff team, but it's really fun, scores a
lot of points, athletic. I think that's what the Cowboys are.
And I think opposing quarterbacks when they go against the
(01:18:16):
Cowboys defense, it's their get right game. So Jayden Daniels
Rough rough week last week, fumbling the ball late. I
think that's going to be a lot of points. It's
in the four o'clock window. I know the Colt scheme
will be going on, but I think that'll be a
fun game.
Speaker 1 (01:18:30):
James, where are you going?
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
I feel like I gotta go. Buccaneers Lions Monday Night.
Two highest scoring offenses, two quarterbacks who are playing out
of their minds so far this season. And anytime I
get to watch Baker Mayfield, I feel like it's an adventure.
You know, he's a gunslinger. He is all of the cliches,
and last week he had like that run for like
twenty yards. He was just weaving out of people and
(01:18:52):
running and diving. He'll talk trash to you. I enjoy
watching Baker Mayfield play football.
Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
Nobody's going with Mike Rabil against this former team.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
No, because I feel like it's going to just be
a beat down.
Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
How much can they score?
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
Exactly how bad the Titans won the NFL's weird Yeah,
if they won that game, I would I would.
Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
I think actually I probably vote for that to have.
Speaker 1 (01:19:13):
I wish it was one of those games where Rabel
could like seek out the owner, like you know, instead
of shaking Mike McCoy's hand in midfield after the game,
he gets seek out what is it? Amy Adams after
the game. I didn't think Colt Chargers would be another
one that you absolute from an entertaining game. Okay, hardest
game to pick from a betting line standpoint where you're going, kaled.
Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Well, you have two really bad teams playing Sunday afternoon
in my home state of Ohio, and I between the
Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns. And I think this is
hard because I saw some of the Cleveland media people
that I follow tweeting out that there's a chance for
sixty mile an hour wind gusts in Cleveland on Sunday,
(01:19:55):
and so that spread is Cleveland minus two and a half.
I don't know what's gonna happen. You have two left eqbs.
It's also aesthetically not the greatest football game to watch
in my opinion, But yeah, two bad teams, it's gonna
be tough.
Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
Yeah. That was actually mine as well, mainly from other nature.
Now some might say that's entertaining watching Dyan Gabriel and too.
I try to throw into those wins, but I have
no idea they don't exactly zip the ball either, so
that thing could float on them. Yes, James, where are
you going for your heart?
Speaker 4 (01:20:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:20:27):
I would probably go with Atlanta and the forty nine ers,
just because I feel like, I don't know should I
trust the Falcons. You know, you lost thirty to nothing
a couple of weeks ago, but then he came back
last and you beat the Bills. Are you good or are
you just good for one week? Which is kind of
how the NFL goes sometimes. And then Mac Jones, I
think he's gonna be starting again this upcoming week.
Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
What does he look like?
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
He's been dealing with a knee injury, So I feel
like every game that I watch that I watch, by
the end of the game he's hobbling around like he
needs a cane or something. So that's a weird one
of those spreaders. I think it's two and a half
in favor of San Francisco, so that's one and I'm like, eh,
I don't know, that could go either way.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
Yeah, and again in Lanta on a short week. Speaking
of Monday night football from last week, you will get
two Monday night games this week. Bucks lines that gave
you mentioned earlier Texans at Seahawks. It's kind of an
interesting game. Texans certainly need that in Seattle's off to
a four and to start. Bills and Ravens are only
by week teams here in Week seven. All right, let's
round it out. The easiest game for you to pick,
(01:21:28):
is what Caleb?
Speaker 5 (01:21:29):
Yeah, I don't think it's really too hard for me.
I think the Chiefs are back. They host the Raiders.
I have them winning.
Speaker 1 (01:21:36):
Big and eleven and a half. That's a big number
in the NFL with the new division.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
I think they're gonna crush them.
Speaker 10 (01:21:43):
Okay, okay, easiest just because you all know, like I
told you all, the New York Football Jets are not
good anywhere in America or anywhere on planet Earth.
Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
So I'm looking at the Panthers being one and a
half point favorite. I'll take that. I feel like the
Panthers proven that they can win a game this year,
which is more than the Jets can say.
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
So the Jets are trying to do the thing where
they come home and they play after London, which is
what the Colts did back in twenty sixteen. I think
the Colts actually won that game after London. All Right,
I hate picking a road team for the easiest game.
Speaker 2 (01:22:17):
But I just.
Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
Can't see the Eagles losing again. I don't know what
the Viking situation at quarterback is going to be with
McCarthy or Wentz this week. The Eagles are just a
two and a half point favorite. I can't see them
dropping another one there.
Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
Oh No, They've got some bad vibes going on over there.
Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
Now, and I think Minnesota's are the harder places to play.
But I still like the Eagles to bounce back and
win that one. So again Week seven Slate, I really
do think Colts Charger is one of the better games
of that.
Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
We'll get much more into.
Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
Colts Chargers with Matt Taylor, the voice of the Colts, upcoming.
On the other side. This is the Fan Morning Show
here ninety through five on a seven to five The
Fan James Boyd. One purchase you would make after putting
pen to paper on the Kurtzignetti contract.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
Oh, that's a great question selflessly for you.
Speaker 1 (01:23:08):
I I I get you know, Hey, I'm gonna whatever
you know, Mom, Dad, this that you know house.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
Oh, that wasn't gonna happen, No way that was gonna
be second to me.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
I'm speaking to people that actually have a heart, you know,
knowing you and how your egos were.
Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Yeah, I told you my parents didn't give me the
good nepotism. You know, I didn't get any of the
good stuff. You have the wrong last name. But just
besides the family stuff, I think I'll probably just go
out and buy whatever car I dreamed of, Like I
don't know, a Lambeau or something like that where I
wouldn't drive it super tooper crazy or fast. But I
always when I walk to like the players parking lot
(01:23:40):
sometimes at the Coast Facility, and they have some nice cars,
I'm just like, man, like, that's a Rolls Royce that
is worth more than people's houses. So I would do
something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
Yeah, my uh Honta Civic Now, you know, beat up
rogue stands out a little bit when I'm parking in
the generalfacentity, you know what.
Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
I walked through the do A lot the other day.
Speaker 3 (01:23:57):
I saw a Toyota like the Avalon and I was like,
you know, what's somebody's like me in here?
Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
He's still in that rookie contract.
Speaker 1 (01:24:02):
It's one of those tryout kickers. It might be honest,
who was there I think I go. I would have
to have a yard big enough. I currently don't golf
hole in the backyard. Oh absolutely, I feel like, yeah,
give me little part reaction in the backyard. Speaking of
a man that you know, it was probably one that
was a big fan to see that from Kurt Signetti.
He is a diehard EYU football fan. He is also
(01:24:23):
the voice of the Indianapolis Coltsy is Matt Taylor. Matt Taylor,
what would you do? What would be that first purchase
for you? With eleven point six million annually?
Speaker 7 (01:24:33):
I've always said if I struck at big time, I
don't think I like to think I wouldn't change my lifestyle.
I don't think I would change how I dressed, the
car I drive. I wouldn't, you know, move into an
elaborate home. I wouldn't buy a big mansion. I would
like to think that I wouldn't change my lifestyle at all.
But the one thing I would do all the time
is I would just host epic parties. I would host.
(01:24:57):
I would have huge parties. I would bring in I
would have free beer and bar and keg and food,
and I would pay for all these parties. I want
people to come over and have a good time. And
the biggest thing I'd pay for is people to clean
it up. Oh, and that's what that's I think. How
I would spend a lot of my discretionary money if
I had eleven point six million dollars a year is
(01:25:18):
just host epic parties. Come over and watch the game,
you know, come over. We'll celebrate your kid's baptism, will
come over, We'll celebrate you know, your daughter's first communion,
whatever it is. I'll have just come over to my house.
I'll pay for the party, I'll get I'll get it catered,
and then I'll just I'll bring in a bunch of
people with clean that crap out of here.
Speaker 1 (01:25:37):
Hell, you got a two eight on the report.
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
Car come on over all right, I was gonna say
this kind of sounds like and A'll say this is
a joke, Jim irsay, and how giving he was, And
you know you won't.
Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
I would always tell you all this and.
Speaker 3 (01:25:49):
I will literally leave earth saying this, Jim irsay, did
rich right?
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
That man enjoyed his money?
Speaker 7 (01:25:57):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
And I think Jim Harball said that very well earlier
in the week and h and describing at Matt Taylor
before we get to your great tailor's tidbits. I can't
wait for Sunday. I think it's an awesome match up
here in week seven. I love that. I love when
you share this, and you shared the clip. I think
I saw it on Instagram of your final call of
the Crystal Monds play against Trey McBride there to ice
(01:26:20):
the game. You pretty much ice the game on Sunday,
and for the most part throughout that play, you're binocularing
it up. Are Are you a binocular guy most of
the game? I'm kind of curious. I don't know. Maybe
it's only me that cares about this. And obviously your
NFL view depends on where you're at in various stadiums.
(01:26:41):
But do you usually binocular?
Speaker 7 (01:26:44):
I use the binoculars every play us every play. Yeah,
I use them every play at every game, no matter
where we are home, home and road, no matter what
the vantage point is, because I mean, it's hard to
see it really is, and for me, I can only
speak for myself. I use the binoculars to track the
ball because there's so much ball handling now at the
(01:27:07):
line of scrimmage, right between play actions and RPOs. You
know we're faking jet sweeps. I just follow the ball
until i know where the ball is, and then if
I'm afforded the ability, I'll take the binoculars, you know,
out of my sight line, you know, away from my eyes,
and then I'll I'll call the play based on you know,
(01:27:27):
my my vantage point, where I'm at, or you know, sometimes,
as is going to be the case on Sunday, we're
going to be in the corner. So if you're in
the corner, you just got to make it work between
everything at your disposal, your eyeballs, your binoculars, the jumbo tron,
the monitor that you have in the booth next to you.
(01:27:48):
Lara Overton, who helps spot on the field. She can
communicate with me in my headset off air, and so
she's helping me if the ball's on the other end
of the field, if we're in the corner, she's helping
me with line of scrimmage is on the other end
of the field, and who makes the tackle on the
other end of the field. So all of those things
go into it. But yeah, I use the binoculars because
(01:28:09):
you know, I want to know who's split out wide
to the right. I want to know which tight end
is over here to the left because sometimes, uh, you know,
depending on formation and where they're at in the field.
You know, Drew Ogletree looks a lot like Moley Cox
from Seven Stories up right, So just use the binoculars
on every play to get as many details out there
(01:28:29):
pre snap and then post snap too.
Speaker 3 (01:28:31):
So last one about these binoculars because I do have
a pair as well, and so does Kevin.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
When did you get your first pair? Because I got
mine years ago high school sports, and I swear to
you I love Indiana high school sports.
Speaker 3 (01:28:45):
With some of these teams, I'm like, why are you
wearing white jerseys with gold numbers?
Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
I can't tell that's three or and eight?
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
And you know Mama Papa will get mad if I
credited the wrong kid on Twitter with a touchdown. So
the binoculars became a staple of the James Boyd backpack
gear for game days.
Speaker 7 (01:29:01):
Yeah, I mean just one more thing on that. I mean,
just not to not to nerd out, but I mean
watching watching pregame warm ups is one of the more
underrated things by play guy can do because you watch
you watch film during the week and you know you're
watching it for you know, tendencies I'm not watching it
like an analyst would watch it, but I'm watching it
also too to to figure out what what does Travis
(01:29:24):
Kelsey look like in his uniform? I mean like, but yeah, like,
just give me some give me, give me as many
indicators on game day so that I can identify you
as fast as possible when you touch the ball or
when you make a tackle, so that I don't have
to think or guess or look down at the roster,
you know what I mean. So, are you wearing pink
leats that day? Are you wearing you know, if you're
(01:29:46):
if you're Tyler Warren. You know he's got long hair
coming out of the back of his helmet, right, that's
an indicator. Do you have a towel coming out of
the side of your of your football pants? I mean,
anything that could give me just one more, uh indication
piece to identify you as fast as possible. And James,
like you just said, I mean sometimes eighty eight looks
like eighty one. I mean sometimes you know, you look
(01:30:11):
like Alex Pierce wears fourteen, but Tyler Warren wears eighty four, right,
So I mean sometimes you just get blocked and you
have to guess and you're just going off of body types.
But you know you always want to pause and you know,
give that extra half beat to make sure you get
it right. Sometimes you don't, you got to move on.
But yeah, those are the biggest things where you know,
(01:30:31):
binoculars come into play. But my first pair of binoculars
I bought with my own dough. I bought them in
two thousand and eight when I started doing high school
play by play, and I still have them. They're they're
they're the same binoculars you saw on that video, Kevin.
They're lightweight, they're small, they're easy to handle, they're easy
to like transport. I've called every game I've ever done
(01:30:54):
with them except for one, and it was a couple
of years ago, a coult home game, and I just
flat out left home without them, and I just felt
like I was naked. I did. I just felt like
I was naked without my binoculars. And so when I
pack my bag tomorrow, when I get on that plane
to LA, That'll be like top five checklist item. I
(01:31:15):
got to have those.
Speaker 1 (01:31:16):
If that ever happens again, you slide down to James
Boy and I are watch and we will give up
our binoculars for you, sir. You are more important than
we are here. You got my back.
Speaker 7 (01:31:27):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (01:31:28):
Yeah, amen to that. It'll be Matt Taylor, Charles R.
Buckal Are overton Are coverage one o'clock, four oh five kickoff.
It's the award winning time for Taylor's headbits.
Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
All right, guys, I got a couple of good ones
here today. Hopefully they're good. Let's talk about the Chiefs,
or excuse me, the Chargers and the Colts, because they're both.
They've both been really good against the AFC. The Colts
are four and zero against the AFC and the Chargers
are too. In fact, Los Angeles has won seven straight
regular season games against the AFC.
Speaker 1 (01:32:03):
It was so good it was a drop of the
mic moment.
Speaker 3 (01:32:06):
I'm not surprised. We will get him back all these
airwaves pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
That was an interesting stat both teams undefeated in the AFC.
I didn't realize the Chargers of taking it to another
level here. Their losses are what giants and commanders.
Speaker 3 (01:32:20):
Yes, and I believe whoever wins this game would technically
be in first place in the AFC.
Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
Oh I didn't even think about that. Had head tiebreaker
with that with the Steelers losing last night, yep. And
that's the thing. If you look at the AFC right now,
James before last night, and I guess the Steelers four
and two after last night? Right were they four and one?
I think they've already had their boys.
Speaker 2 (01:32:39):
They're four and two.
Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
I want to say, you have five teams at four
and two. So, boy, you think about the Colts win
over Arizona, I mean, they easily could have been foreign two. Yeah,
it's a very jumbled group. And then Kansas City is
I believe the loan three and three team right now.
So again, probably a little premature to be dissecting standings,
but it is a remind of Hey, one game or
(01:33:02):
two and all of a sudden, you know, you can
go from whatever first and sixth in a hurry, all right,
Matt Taylor will cue the music back up. But that'sat
was so good that all of a sudden they just
fried our phone lines.
Speaker 7 (01:33:13):
I tell you what, Yeah, I tell you what. Everything
you know, technology is super fun, and here we go.
I was telling you about how the Chargers they've been
perfect in the AFC seven and zero dating back to
last year, and you know, it's one of those things
that has allowed them to be in contention to make
the playoffs. As of right now, you've got a four
and two team. But as of right now, they're winning
(01:33:34):
the AFC West and they're also third in the AFC
pecking order going into this game. And you know, they've
got the seventh best overall offense and defense, but they've
only outscored their opponents by a total of two points
on the season. You know, offensively, they've been able to
move the ball, and they're really good in a lot
of important categories, but they're only scoring twenty one points
(01:33:56):
per game. They've got three receivers with at least three
hundred yard yards, that's the most of the NFL. That
trio is Quinton Johnston, Keenan Allen and Lad mcconkeey. They
also have the fit most exposed to plays over twenty
yards their fifth so far on third down. But what's
killing them, and I'm sure you guys have talked about this,
they are the worst team thirty second in the NFL
(01:34:19):
in red zone offense, converting just thirty five percent of
the time inside the twenty yard line. They only have
seven red zone touchdowns all season long. All right, let's
talk about them also the other way in the red zone,
right the Chargers. We talked about them being terrible on offense,
but they're great inside the twenty yard line on defense,
(01:34:40):
and that's what the Colts are going to be put
to the test when they've got the ball. They've been
outstanding the last two games. They're perfect ten per tent
scoring touchdowns inside the twenty yard line. But the Chargers
on defense ranked number two in the NFL in red
zone defense forty two percent. They've given up only nine
red zone touchdowns all season, and dating last year, they've
(01:35:01):
allowed twenty five red zone scores since the beginning of
two thy and twenty four and the last one I'm
gonna hit you with here, fellas, Let's talk about Justin Herbert.
He's kind of like Daniel Jones. He's been under siege
a lot. Teams are boats to him. They're trying to
heat him up, and it splits aren't nearly as good
against the pressure as Daniel Jones's numbers there. All right,
(01:35:24):
Herbert has been pressured a league high ninety nine times
already this season, and when he's been pressured, he's completing
forty four percent of his passes, he's thrown three picks,
and it's passer rating is amasately fifty four point four.
Now you compare that when he's not been pressured, all right,
when the offensive line does a good job and he's
(01:35:45):
got time. Justin, Herbert is the elite. He's in the
upper echelon of quarterbacks, and he's just been surgical when
he's got time. That's why it's imperative for the Colts
pass rush to have a better performance in this game
than they did last Sunday Jacoby Brissett in totality, So
when Herbert has not been pressured, he's completing eighty percent
(01:36:06):
of its passes, he's thrown eight passing touchdowns, and he
has a passer rating of one fifteen point two. That
is a drastic difference pressure versus non pressure. That's going
to be a big storyline in this game for the
Colts pass rush.
Speaker 1 (01:36:21):
Boy, that red zone staff for the Chargers is really interesting, Matt,
because I look at the Colts the last two weeks
ten of ten in the red zone, and I was
actually talking to the Colts pr staff this week. I
go like, historically that seems astonishing, Like I know coaches
mentioned this often, but if you're successful in the red zone,
(01:36:43):
that can be the difference in so many games. And
the Colts weren't great in it and yet moved it
so well early in the season and now the last
two weeks. If you look at last week, Colts are
what four of four and I think the Cardinals were
three of six. It's just that I think is a
little nervous for me for the Colts coming up on
because the red zone feels like it can be such
a snap of the fingers and you just get it together.
Speaker 7 (01:37:05):
I completely agree. I mean, I mean, first of all,
I mean, how impressive is that in two weeks the
Colts go from I think ranked twenty fifth in red
zone to tenth. Right, you know, that's what that's what
ten for ten will will, We'll do for you. But
you know, just generally speaking, it's it's just so hard.
That's where games are more often than not one and lost.
You know, if you give up, if you're giving up
(01:37:27):
threes and you're scoring sevens, you're gonna win a lot
of football games. And just you know, the field shrinks,
the windows are tighter, and defensive coordinators they play it
completely different down there. They start blitzing more, they start
using different players as chess pieces, and the ultimate chess
piece this weekend is going to be Irwin James. That's Safety.
I mean, he is just a fantastic player. He can cover,
(01:37:49):
he can rush, he's really fiscal inside the box. And oh,
by the way, a little bit of a honorable mention
Taylor tidbit. The last time the Colts played the Chargers,
he got bounced, he got thrown out of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
Dueling hit.
Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
Yeah, the color rough game, right.
Speaker 4 (01:38:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:38:04):
He had like two personal fouls in actually I think
it was three. He had three penalties in the span
of like three plays before he got kicked out. And
he had the helmet the helmet hit on Ashton Doland.
But he's a great player, he really is, and I
think he's going to be an X factor, especially inside
the red zone when the Colts have the ball inside
the twenty yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
Trying to get seven, Seat one A on the plane tomorrow,
Shane Stiken, Seat one B, Matt Taylor's binoculars. That's how
it'll be heading out to Lax. Matt Taylor safe travels.
We'll be listening and James Wood and I will see
you in a few hours.
Speaker 7 (01:38:38):
All right, guys, always going to be with you.
Speaker 1 (01:38:40):
That's the best right there. The voice of the Colts,
Matt Taylor.
Speaker 3 (01:38:45):
I think him and his binocular love is kindred spirit
to what I've developed over the years.
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
You leave the binoculars, you're naked.
Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
I think that was well said. I'm shocked he didn't
ask somebody for them, honestly for the game. What did
we haven't noted? I think this week maybe we have James,
but you know, returning kicks right now for the Chargers
is Naim Hines. And yeah, the story is just I mean,
it's an awesome story. He's made it back and I
think fans will probably remember obviously was traded from here
(01:39:16):
in twenty twenty two. Really was such a productive player
for this football team as a fourth round pick, and
hearing players describe him this week, I mean beloved and
a lot of defensive guys, yeah, expressing that the horrific
jet Ski accident, you know, looked like it was going
to end his career. And then he joined the Chargers
this preseason. I was cut at final cutdowns, but then
(01:39:41):
the Chargers have had a couple of different injuries to
Najee Harris and Omar and Hampton their top two running backs,
and so Hines is back and he had a huge
kick return to spark that final drive for them last
week and they went over Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:39:53):
Very good dude, and someone who was always willing to
give his time to the media. Very candid guy, wouldn't
give you the cookie cutter answer, and so selfishly.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
I always appreciated that.
Speaker 3 (01:40:02):
But it seems like Naim Heines was a beloved teammate
and I'm looking forward to him possibly being on the field.
Was Zira Franklin, who claims to have ran him down.
He was like, Hey, you're talking about Naim Hines.
Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
Been a four to three guy. I got him to
the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:40:18):
So I'm always some happy banter there between those two guys.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
Draft mates, those two back. Yeah, in twenty eighteen. All right,
we'll give our Colts charters picks up coming in about ten.
Let's lead off with the latest injury report though. Here
for this morning checkdown, James, I'm actually gonna start with
the Chargers. It looks like Quentin Johnston, one of their
better whiteouts, will be back for this one. Again. That
is a very deep and balanced wide out core. I
think some of the chatter out there is still probably
(01:40:44):
another week on Khalil Mack. He has returned to practice.
The future Hall of Famer has but he has been
out with an elbow injury for a couple of weeks.
And then offensive tackle is the one to watch. They
did get Joe Alt back to practice, so basically they
drafted slator top ten pick a few years ago. He
was out for the year. I think in camp. Yeah, Alt,
(01:41:05):
another top ten pick, got hurt a few weeks ago.
We'll see exactly where his availability is though. With just
two practice days right now, they're scheduled to be starting.
I believe it's their fourth and fifth offensive tackle, yeah,
which is actually a step up from the fifth and
sixth they had last week. But Alt will be I
think the big one to watch today.
Speaker 3 (01:41:25):
Absolutely, And you look at the Colts side of things,
no Josh Downs, no Javeria's ward this week, as they
remain in concussion protocol.
Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
I would not expect either to play.
Speaker 3 (01:41:34):
And then you have Kenny Moore, the second return to
practice this week has been limited on Wednesday and Thursday.
We'll see if he advances further today to a full participant,
but I'm still kind of side eyeing, like, huh, would
you put him out there against the Chargers? He would
obviously be a big boost, But I'm also like, you're
five and one and you've survived well without him. Do
(01:41:55):
you want to sort of maybe risk that knowing that
you have a long season ahead of you.
Speaker 2 (01:41:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:42:00):
Again, I could be wrong in that I just don't
have a great Kennymore vibe right now heading into the
final practice of the week. But we will see that
upcoming here around noon. All right, tonight's in the Alamo.
It will be the Pacers their final preseason game again.
Lloyd Pierce will be on the sideline for this one.
Rick Carlisle attending the formal for his daughter over at
(01:42:20):
the University of virgin You know, we'll see the Pacer
starters play and how much I would assume they do.
Last year in the preseason finale they played north of
twenty minutes. And then James, we get into a little
bit of roster decisions. You know, where are you at
point guard wise? Where are you at center wise? I
think that's probably the big debate right as they cut
this roster.
Speaker 3 (01:42:38):
Down absolutely and you look at a guy like Campaign
who they brought in.
Speaker 2 (01:42:43):
Do you keep him around?
Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
And I would imagine that because of the interest of
that position, he's sort of insulated to a degree from
you know, roster cuts, but strange things that happened when
it comes to meeting the roster demands of the NBA,
and then, like you said, center as far as their rotation,
I think it starts with Isaiah Jackson and he kind
of trickles down from there. But how do those guys
(01:43:04):
look tonight and how do you kind of find some
continuity to build around those dudes? Because Miles Turner is
no longer here.
Speaker 1 (01:43:10):
Regular season opens up coming up next Thursday right here
at game Bridge Field House, Pacers and Thunder. Probably the
big news item locally from yesterday Kurt Signetti agreeing to
terms with Indiana on a second contract extension. I think
it was just north of eight million if I remember correctly.
Last year this won eleven point six million annually. That
(01:43:33):
places him third among college football coaches public schools. That
is behind Kirby Smart and Ryan Day. It is extension
through the year twenty thirty three for Kurtnetti. What do
you think you think this is Oregon when Penn State
(01:43:53):
opening both why now, I.
Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
Think it's probably a little bit of both.
Speaker 3 (01:43:59):
And you have to strike while the iron tot And
as much as we would love to believe that all
the figures that we have relationships with in sports, or
we look up to in sports, or we thank for
reviving our programs or being great players, that they have this,
you know, unabashed loyalty, that's not always the case. And
so just to give yourself peace of mind, you got
(01:44:21):
to give that man a piece of money.
Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
And you know, well deserved raised there.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
For Curtsey Netty, And honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if
they go on to the cop football playoffs do something
crazy like when this whole thing, you know, or do
we have more conversations about compensation?
Speaker 1 (01:44:35):
So you know, for me one more time, piece of mind,
piece of money. What was that again?
Speaker 7 (01:44:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
Sometimes, you know, to ease your peace of mind, you
got to give people a piece of money. Yeah, all right,
Like like Steven Holders told es yesterday on these air waves,
you know he is, you know, rocking and rolling right
now with ESPN because of ESPN is done right by him.
Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
I don't know if it's eleven point six million. But
I'm sure it's a very well competence.
Speaker 4 (01:45:00):
Nah.
Speaker 1 (01:45:00):
I'll have his.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
People, you know, talk to your companyable in at ESPN
and get him. We need a little boost there. You know.
Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
It'll be I you. Michigan State, that's a peacocker. Three
thirty tomorrow, big old favorite Michigan State. Tons of dysfunction
right now, Purdue three o'clock Northwestern. They are only a
two and a half point underdog. We'll see if the
fighting Barry Odams can get their first big ten win
and a huge one in South Ben I'm already sweating
thinking about it. Notre Dame in USC Notre Dame program
(01:45:26):
built in the trenches. They're starting center got hurt last week.
Their best defensive tackle got hurt at in practice this week.
So a little nerve wracking for a must win game
for Marcus Freeman. If the playoffs are going to be
in store here in twenty twenty five, we do some
hoop tonights outside of just the Pacers, that would be
college basketball wise. You know what, Butler, it'll be Notre
(01:45:47):
Dame and Butler up there at Hinkle. Big year for
that Mada upcoming big year from Michael Shrewsbury as well
tons of overlap. Mikah Shrewsbury, the assistant when Gordon Hayward
played there. Gordon Hayward will be in the building tonight.
Brady Stevens, the son of Brad Stevens. I'll walk on
for Notre Dame. Obviously, Michael shrew's Bury and Brad Stevens
very close, so it should be fun. One tonight on
the exhibition slate, Indiana has Marion. That is a seven
(01:46:10):
thirty tip down in Bloomington. Darren de Brees' bunch a
little banged up, says, The rotation likely to be seven
to eight guys here early in the season. A big
ten plus for this one. Do you want to give
a shout out? Nick Roadcap Graham Nash and former student
of mine Ava with jen Kee will be on the
sidelines tonight, so big ten network plus. I love that
(01:46:31):
other students get an opportunity to do this, which is
a really, really cool experience for them. Dame's the only
other stuff I had Major League Baseball. All the road
teams in the al Getta Donna's out two to two
is the Blue Jays. Max Scherzer tells his manager, no, no, no,
I'm staying in Blue Jays even up that one. The
Dodgers are up three to Nierlo. It was a three
(01:46:53):
to one win last night as they are about ready
to dust off the Brewers. And last night it was
a great one on Thursday night football, was it not?
Speaker 7 (01:47:01):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
Absolutely? It was the Relica Bowl or the Old Head Bowl,
the Uncle Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:47:08):
That's better than the Geriatric Bowl I gave earlier.
Speaker 3 (01:47:10):
Geriatric Bowl actually sounds like it would be a legit bowl.
So I would roll with that one over the ones
that I just threw out there.
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
Like a Tuesday Night and Detroit Geriatric Bowl here.
Speaker 2 (01:47:18):
Absolutely, so shout out to Joe Flacco. Got it done.
And now you have two Joe's on the roster when
it comes to the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (01:47:25):
And so you had one Joe on the sideline who
was injured with the long hair raising his hands up
like he was rocky after they got the win, and
he had Joe cool. Joe Flacco was sitting there probably thinking, man,
I'm ready to go to bed.
Speaker 1 (01:47:37):
It is kind of funny, like every time they show
Flack on the sidelines, I'm like, gosh, he's like not
even looking at plays or anything. He's just like off
in his own little world over there.
Speaker 7 (01:47:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
I gotta say though, it was cool to hear him say.
Speaker 3 (01:47:49):
Someone asks him, what do you want your kids to
learn from what you're doing, you know, going from I
think within eleven days you go from once in to
another bad loss to starting And he was like, I
just hope my kids know that when it comes their time,
they try to do hard things and chase the dream.
Speaker 1 (01:48:03):
So respect embrace hard. There's a big Marcus Freeman common
he chose to say too recruits about Notre Dame. Joe
Flacco using that as well, and shout out to the
pre volleyball team. They beat Indiana last night three to
one in a match at Gamebridge Fieldhouse. Sawid an aerial
shot there. Look pretty cool. That lower bowl pretty full
there for purduing Indiana playing in that NBA arena. All right,
(01:48:24):
on the other side, let's get some picks. Cults Chargers
one of the closest lines of any one of the
more higher scoring games anticipated in week seven. We'll give
our picks next. Indeed, it is another trip out to Cali,
so if I stadium again, are we getting the Ady
Mitchell full revenge game? Full movie, same corner of that
(01:48:46):
end zone, same pylon.
Speaker 2 (01:48:49):
Well, I can't call it revenge because the revenge will
be against yourself. Well, yeah, so I'm gonna say revenge.
I'm gonna say redemption. It is probably a better word there,
Fredy Mitchell. But it is a serious question of will
will he be available to play? Will they make him
active after being inactive for the first time in his
career last week.
Speaker 5 (01:49:05):
I think if he scores, he runs right to that
pylon where he fumbled the ball, like to did with
the Dallas Star, you know, and he scored with the
forty nine ers, you go right to that piline.
Speaker 2 (01:49:16):
You open your arms and you look to the heavens.
Speaker 1 (01:49:19):
That's what you do. Could you imagine? Unbelievable? But I mean,
James great theater. James is right. I asked that in
all seriousness. So just to update everybody. We'll give our
Colts Chargers picks here in a few minutes, but just
to update everybody where the culture at injury wise. Okay,
So corner, it looks like Javarius Ward is going to
be out. We'll see about Kenny Moore. He's been limited
these first two days. I don't know, I don't have
(01:49:39):
a great vibe with it now. Part of me is
like Kevin, don't overthink it. He was supposed to be
back within this four week window and this is the
fourth week. So he's gonna play Sunday, But I don't know.
We'll see how today goes for Kenny. One thing to
note about the Corners though, While the Chargers are definitely
deeper at White Out than the Cardinals, at least the
Cults have had a full week. Jonathan Edwards has had
(01:50:01):
a full week to get ready for whatever role you
envisioned for him on Sunday, whereas last week he had
ninety minutes to really really get ready. But at White Out,
no Josh Downs again inconcussion protocol, he's likely out. Ashton
Doolan has missed the first two weeks of practice or
first two days of practice with a chest injury, and
last year when Downs didn't play, the role went mostly
(01:50:25):
to Mitchell, with a little sprinkle of Ashton Doolan in there.
Would you then give it all to Dolan? But again
he's missed the first two days of practice, So would
you put Mitchell? Do you move Michael Pittman Junior into
the slot? Does Tyler Warren just cure all? Does the
presence of Tyler Warren just say.
Speaker 2 (01:50:41):
He mostly not a bad option?
Speaker 1 (01:50:43):
We're good. We'll just play two tight end sets all
game long, and it'll be Pierson Pittman and it'll be worn.
So the Colts do have several questions here. They do
have some whiteouts on the practice squad. They can turn to, Uh,
Caleb Zuber, why don't you start us off one and
a half point underdog the Nanapolis Colts a forty eight
and a half over under Where you're going?
Speaker 5 (01:51:05):
I feel really good about the Colts chances here. I
just feel like it's time for a statement win for
this team. And I do think not only is this
a redemption game for eighty Mitchel, I think for everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:51:20):
On that team.
Speaker 5 (01:51:21):
I think they knew they missed an opportunity a few
weeks ago against the Rams. So I do think it's
gonna be close. They're gonna have to make plays down
the stretch. We talked about it all week. That pass
rush is gonna have to get home. I'm saying twenty
three to twenty one Colts, you're going low scoring.
Speaker 1 (01:51:38):
I am I am huh James Boyd what do you
like here in Week seven?
Speaker 3 (01:51:43):
I like that the Colts quarterback is Danie Jones playing
at a high level. His I guess worst game of
the year was out in LA, but even then, I
don't think it was like a terrible performance. I think
that he will lead this offense. But also looking at
that Chargers run defense, I'm like, man, could this you know?
The big performance for Jonathan Taylor. So I will roll
with the Colts thirty three thirty. They're gonna be a
(01:52:05):
high scoring game. I don't really trust this Colts defense,
but give me a game winning drive and you get
just with them field goal range.
Speaker 2 (01:52:13):
Michael Badgley, Hey, welcome back to the Colts. Kick you
a game winner.
Speaker 1 (01:52:16):
The Colts have two real advantages on paper. One Jonathan
Taylor against this run defense. The Chargers have really struggled
stopping the run here, especially as of late. Yeah, twelfth
most yards per game in the league on the ground.
Great opportunity for the Colts. And then when the Chargers
have it on offense, your pass rush has got to
show up. They have got to finally show up, is
probably how I should put it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:36):
Well, you're facing a unit that has a bunch of crutches.
I'm like, please get home.
Speaker 1 (01:52:40):
Yes, offensive tackle really really struggling right now for the
Chargers in terms of health. So again advantage that is there.
In close games, I usually revolve my choice around head coach, quarterback,
and kicker. Head coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:52:54):
Oh unfair, I see where you're going.
Speaker 1 (01:52:56):
I could see pretty even with these head coaches. Quarterback,
I gotta go justin Herbert and Kicker. I'd definitely go
with Cameron Dicker. I think it'll be a great game,
thirty twenty seven Chargers.
Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
I'm looking forward to it. Sofi Stadium is quite the place,
and I would agree Caleb on the statement game element
to it.
Speaker 1 (01:53:17):
And it's not lost to me that in that postgame
locker room Shane Styken mention the Chargers specifically on Sunday,
Josh Down's running off the field mention the Chargers specifically,
it's not every week. I don't think the Colts will
be running off the field this week, saying we can't
wait for the Titans next week right in our own building,
Like you can preach week the week and every week
(01:53:37):
as a super Bowl in the NFL. Yeah no, And
that ain't true. They know Herbert, they know the Chargers,
they know Harball, they know La all that stuff. So
I do think this is one that's been a little
bit more circle and.
Speaker 5 (01:53:51):
To the point, I feel like James would agree with
me on this, where as he gives a look at
me like I don't know. Players always say they don't
pay attention to social media and what the other people say,
but they do, right, and so I'm sure that they see.
There's a lot of people who have said, like, Colts
haven't played anybody, schedule has been easy. They got to
(01:54:13):
look against Denver, and I think this is a real
chance against a team that everybody kind of is bullsh
on in the Chargers to get that win. So I
think that matters in all of this too.
Speaker 3 (01:54:23):
A couple of Zire Franklin thoughts from this week, well
from this season, rather a few weeks ago, before the
season kind of really got underway. I want to say
it might have been after Week one he said that
Justin Herbert was not a top five quarterback in the NFL.
So does the tune change after that game, or do
you get a chance to kind of make your case
(01:54:44):
as to why you believe he is not by going
out there and taking him down and making sure that
you keep him under wraps. And then on top of that,
he said that he felt when they played the Rams
that the Colts looked at that as a game where
they tested or they were getting their first real test.
He's like, no, no, no, no, We're the tests for
(01:55:05):
everybody else, and I think that that is the mindset.
He said that he wants his team to carry into
their second trip out west.
Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
The radio call Matt Taylor, Charles arbuckle lera over ten
our coverage will begin at one. The TV crew again
this CBS slot, the number two team, Iron Eagle and
JJ Watt. I believe the first time Watt has called
the Colts game, and Iron Eagle Boy, I think it's
been a while since he has had the Colts, so
really looking forward to that aspect of it. It is
(01:55:31):
a loaded weekend sports wise, not just for the Colts.
We'll set you up for it all one final time
Kevin bow and James Boyd Caleb Zuber on a Friday.
That is an excellent rejoiner for what is a loaded,
loaded sports weekend. By the way, shout out Caleb Zuber
outstanding all week long filling in for Mark Dyked and Caleb.
(01:55:54):
Thank you, Thank you you guys.
Speaker 5 (01:55:56):
I just want to say this is a dream come
true for me as a listener of this station for
a long time and just reading your guys's work, following
you guys like this has been the best week of
my life. Seriously, And I mean I'm not just saying
that because I'm on air and I'm sensatializing things.
Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
I know there's a lot of that out there, right James.
But I have just loved this.
Speaker 1 (01:56:15):
It's been awesome, and I appreciate you guys so much. Caleb,
your genuine love for doing this. I know it means
a lot to James and I. I know both you
and I have commented on that, James, so the feelings
of mutual brother So thank you so much. I think
Mark dyked innis thirteen more vacation days between now and Thanksgiving,
So it's thirteen more days for me. I'll tell you
that right now. I assume you'll be back here.
Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
Thirteen days. Is crazy if that were true, But yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:56:40):
Mark, if maybe when James, you never know.
Speaker 2 (01:56:43):
With Mark, that is true.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
But you know what, shout out to my boy, Mark,
that man is gonna use every ounce of his PTO.
Speaker 2 (01:56:50):
That is the American dream right there. We work our jobs.
We deserve to have our compensation.
Speaker 1 (01:56:55):
You bored the plane tomorrow out there to Cults Chargers.
What else you like this weekend? I mean you could
go a lot. We got a lot of hoops tonight again,
we got Pacers final preseason game. We've got IU first game,
the Darren Dereeze Era Exhibition. Butler Notre Dame up there
at Hinkle again college football slate. Maybe not as much locally.
(01:57:15):
Notre Dame USC is great, but yeah, maybe a little
bit more national coming up tomorrow. What else? What else
you have Rams Jags is kind of sneaky, good London
game to start off your Sunday. What else?
Speaker 3 (01:57:26):
Yeah, I would say for today, I'm thinking about going
to visit my buddy John Easter, who is one of
the journalism slash media teachers over at Ben Davis. They
close out the regular season, I believe against North Central
today over at Giants Stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
That's what it's called. I believe it's called that.
Speaker 3 (01:57:44):
So yeah, I haven't seen him in a while, and
I always like to kind of stop by to see
what they're up to. And I know he really pushes
his students to really grow when it comes to media
and things like that, so it's always good to stop
by and kind of give him the whole Hey, you know,
I'm young ish and you can still do this as
a real jobs. So that's probably what's on this late
for tonight, and then as the weekend goes. I think
whenever I booked my flights, it's like whenever I land,
(01:58:06):
the first thing I do is to try to find
something to eat and find a TV to watch whatever game.
And I feel like that's Saturdays are great if you're
an NFL reporter because it's like the one day you
don't have to worry about covering something.
Speaker 2 (01:58:18):
So but I will say I'll keep an eye out though.
Speaker 3 (01:58:21):
Every Saturday they announced the fines from the previous week,
so I'm very curious to see. Look at a couple
of those hits that Josh Downs took and now the
concussion protocol, Will that Cardinals player be fined for that?
Speaker 1 (01:58:36):
Are you thinking both hits? Are you thinking just the
one on Downs in the end zone? Are you thinking
that third and eight?
Speaker 4 (01:58:41):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
No, I feel like both that possibly be used again.
Either flagged during the game. Yeah, but that usually isn't
a big indicator.
Speaker 3 (01:58:49):
I mean, even last year there are a couple of
hip drop tackle penalties that they never flagged for but
they fined for. And yeah, I mean I posted those
plays on x slash Twitter earlier this week, and I
don't see how you can say that they're necessarily like
legal plays after going back and watching it. But perhaps
I'm looking at it through the from the colt's perspective.
(01:59:09):
The NFL is weird when it comes to fines, so
we'll see. But yeah, literally, this is obsessive.
Speaker 2 (01:59:14):
I am.
Speaker 3 (01:59:14):
I have an alarm set on my phone for every Friday,
every Saturday rather at four thirty pm Eastern time, to
remind me to check the fines.
Speaker 1 (01:59:21):
I think I have an alarm for four thirty eastern
every Saturday to crack a beer.
Speaker 2 (01:59:25):
Yeah, a life of a Germany. Hey, you want the
information or not?
Speaker 3 (01:59:28):
People lose their minds and about you know, the plays
and how the thing's unfolded.
Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
So yeah, well that's another Yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
Can go back and look, that's such a dumb penalty.
Speaker 7 (01:59:39):
It was it was.
Speaker 3 (01:59:40):
I thought it might have cost him in the moment.
It did cost him in the moment, but you prevail
and you kind of get swooped under the rug. But
there's a couple of different trends with that Colts defense
that I'm worried about.
Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
I wrote about it.
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Actually it went live today in the Athletic. Go check
that out for me when you get a chance after
the show. But I'm thinking to myself and the question
I keep asking myself with this defense as opposed to
the off which I am fully bought into, is this
fools goal like their fourth and scoring defense right now?
Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
But they'll get up with a lot of yards.
Speaker 3 (02:00:07):
They're thirtieth and third down you know rate when it
comes to giving up third down to other teams, and
I look at what the Charges have done on third down.
I believe that they're fifth when it comes to third
down conversion rate in the NFL. So something we'll have
to give there. So there's some cracks in thatck Colts defense.
Some of that due to injury, but some of that
just d to some I think bad football being played.
Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
So we'll see.
Speaker 5 (02:00:27):
I just really think again, I hate to keep hitting
on the passers, but like I just feel like that's
why I said low scoring game, because it's like I
believe that they are gonna come through at some point.
At some point they have to, so that that's why
I went the low scoring in our picks last segment.
And I think I think the Chargers has a good
defense too, But that's why I went there.
Speaker 1 (02:00:48):
And I agree with you, James, the thing about pressuring Herbert,
You've got to pressure and finish. Yeah, I mean, he's
not just a dude that I hate to bring on
Matt Ryan from a few years ago. But like if
you got within a whisker of Matt Ryan a few
years ago, he'd go fetal position and go down. Herbert
Ain't that dude. I mean, Herbert is. You've got to
(02:01:11):
get him to the ground. For those that have not
watched the final play of the Miami game, it is
absurd what he did.
Speaker 5 (02:01:18):
What was the Jim Harball quote earlier in the week, Caleb,
He said, you know, he'll be thinking of that play
when they poured dirt over him.
Speaker 1 (02:01:30):
We played a lot of hardball audio this week. We
decided to leave that one on the back burner. But
you do watch that play and you are blown away
by it. I don't know if I'll be thinking about
it when I'm six feet under frankly, but it was
quite the play. So again four or five coming up
on Sunday. I can't wait to be inside of Hinckelfield
else tonight. Shout out to the great Eagleston family for
letting my brother and I take Rosie and Max to
(02:01:51):
the game. So really looking forward to that. And it
sounds like Hinkel. The renovations from a video board, led
board standpoint point are tremendous. I saw a little bit
of a background shot of Gordon Hayward at practice yesterday
and looked really cool. So are they trying to make
it modern entertainment experience when you're in there, but obviously
keep hinkle Hinkle is probably a difficult balance. But I'm
(02:02:15):
looking forward to tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:02:17):
Question about Max Bowen, how's the jumper looking? I know
you showed me that photo. This was months ago and
he told me, hey, he's got good form, and I
told you I'd.
Speaker 2 (02:02:24):
Lock him up. So I'm just wondering when when can
I get about one on one.
Speaker 1 (02:02:27):
We went to the Children's Museum earlier this week. They're
on fall Break by the way. Shout out to the
Children's Museum. That's sports area there. It actually is so yeah,
freaking incredible, Like I could entertain myself. I don't know
if that's allowed for thirty six year olds just to
go there by themselves, probably not, But uh I loved it.
I mean, we did basketball, we did football, we did
(02:02:48):
the treehouse, we did the Indy five hundred and whatever track,
we did putt putt, we did it all. And Max
Bowen more than anything he's got into his head rebound.
Maybe I had a good sign for his jumper, but
if he can rebound, that's gonna get you a lot
of ext one.
Speaker 2 (02:03:04):
But I was about to say he's a junkyard dog.
I respect it.
Speaker 1 (02:03:07):
Rosie was. Rosie's jumper looked pretty wet, honestly, so Rosie
had a pretty good looking jumper.
Speaker 2 (02:03:13):
Well, you know, I'm not discriminatorius a Rosie. You can
get these buckets too. Someday.
Speaker 1 (02:03:16):
I'm thinking, you know, maybe if Santa could bring her
a fever basketball, that would be nice.
Speaker 4 (02:03:19):
Here.
Speaker 1 (02:03:20):
But a great time that we had at the Children's
Museum earlier this week, Caleb, as we mentioned, brother, thank you,
thank you, thank you. Great great work all week long.
Setting up for next week. James of course, will be
out traveling back from La on Monday, so it'll be
Jeff and I and I believe Jeff is then out Thursday. Fridays.
Speaker 7 (02:03:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
I will try to call in though to check in
with you guys like I did last time. That was
a little recap calling in from the plane. Everybody, enjoy
your great sports weekend. The great Weather High School football
final regular season Friday night.
Speaker 1 (02:03:49):
We'll talk to you Monday
