Speaker 1 (00:00):
And Jeff the Reds are officially dead.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
You're hoping that the warts just stay on the butt.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
You would literally just get lost in the sea of
human being.
Speaker 4 (00:10):
Yeah, there's more pigs than people.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
With the beaver out in front, don't you the beaver.
Speaker 5 (00:16):
Yeah, get a full beaver shot, Kevin, if you can.
That's always a good thing.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Man just poo poo it all over his stuff.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Even at eight o'clock in the morning, I was sitting
there just stewing in my own juices.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
There is an object on the court in this case.
Speaker 6 (00:31):
Don't worry.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
It's hard lace.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
They are allowed to prepare the balls.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
That's way longer than I expected it to be.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Pull that mark.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Oh, I'm pulling it. I'm pulling it up really quickly.
Speaker 7 (00:41):
Whoa.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
We are live Halloween Morning from hightt off the Circle
in downtown Indianapolis. It's the fan Morning show within a
inspiring young sports writer. I'll tell you why. I can
tell you're aspiring still and the Baconator Kevin Bowen, How
you doing this morning, my man?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Happy Halloween everybody out there. Hopefully weather looks great for
tonight and we got a busy Friday to get to today,
So looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun. So you're
is this what you're gonna be rocking with the kids
tonight out on the streets or are you going to
go back to man on the street type stuff?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Uh no, why mess with success? I think I have
said before on Halloween.
Speaker 6 (01:28):
I am not a.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Limp Bacon individual. I am a crispy Bacon individual. There
is a key, key difference between the two. I want
to make that abundantly clear. And I am very excited
about the nice warmth that this costume also provides here. So, yes,
Kevin Bacon here for the umpteenth year in a row.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
No family.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
What is a family outfit? Yeah? Family? Are they?
Speaker 1 (01:57):
One year we did like I for you. Maddie was
a piece of toast and Rosie was an egg. We
you know, we did all that. You know, I'm very
high maintenance. We have to cater around my costume. UHM,
really it is true. You know, thirty eight week pregnant
Maddie probably not going to be one. That's you know,
dressing up too too much. Uh Max a dinosaur some days,
(02:17):
is Spidey the other days, and Rosie a cheerleader.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
So does Maddie have to, like, at eight months, walk
around all night long looking looking at everybody? Are you
going to take care of all that?
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Wow? Yeah? Yeah, go okay, well let's get into the
co parenting here.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
I'm just curious because.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
I think I've done a decent job and trying to
get our kids to sleep and putting them back to
bed when they wake up. I'm not rolling over sitting
to Maddie. Hey, will you go get Max back in
his bed. I'm talking about Halloween tonight. Yeah, I assume
Maddie will probably be inside. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I don't like Limp Bacon, No, he doesn't.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
This is why I know Mark, you're the aspiring young
sports writer today because if you were, well, actually you
should be the veteran, because the veteran dresses like you do.
Like you here, you do what you do, But an
aspiring young journalist would be like tie suit, all that
kind of stuff, trying to impress everybody.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Right, not in our field.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Okay, I'm trying to think I saw you at the
over since my travel dress, I.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Was gonna say, like, uh, I don't know who will
wear a tie on game days. I mean I give
it to Stephen Holder. He's pretty sharp, and I know
he's got that NAB will wear the tie because of
the wish TV obligations. But yeah, I would say the
majority of NFLB writers don't really get all that dressed up?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Is this firefighter Jeff fire chief Jeff fire chief, because
not only is it something that was convenient to get
this morning, but I do spend a lot of my time,
as Mark'll tell you, running around putting out fires all
day long, so we do that a lot too. So
stomping on a lot of bags of poop, usually usually
supplied by producers is.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
How that Mark looks like you're maybe rocking.
Speaker 6 (03:56):
Some sort of.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Can you come around here?
Speaker 8 (04:00):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Why not and try to talk at the same time
for our radio audience.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
We'll talk for him, but he's it's got number seven
on the back number and six seven.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
No, oh gosh, Mark.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Honestly, you're probably a legend around your kids right now.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
So do you want to I'm trying to kill that
that you one of my ten and twelve year olds
hanging on your leg trying.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
I'm trying to kill it by acting as uncool as
possible so that we can finally end then things I've
heard that thing daily for like three weeks.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Now, I'm really good for coloring in between the lines.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
I've been banned from saying that in my house with
two high school boys. Yeah, like they are not happy
with if I want to irritate him at this point
in time, and went to your kids get to be teenagers.
There will come a day where you want to irritate
him for whatever reason. You just go, you walk by
and casually just go six seven. Ery'll just drive them
up the wall. It's a good thing that you're not
saying that. Yeah, probably all right. So good morning, and
(04:55):
welcome into a Halloween show on the Fan Morning Show.
We are rocking it this morning and getting ready for
a busy weekend. Obviously, coltson the Steelers are coming up.
That's my phone going nuts right now. Uh, the Colts
and the Steelers coming up. At one o'clock on Sunday afternoon,
Pacers played the Commissioners cut their first game tonight against
the Hawks. I'd forgotten that it started this early. James
(05:16):
Adams the Commissioner's Cup, James Boyd.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Sorry, I was gonna say, James Adams, that was that
a president?
Speaker 6 (05:21):
Once?
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Is that a president?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Used to be a beat writer for the Denver Broncos bat.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
James Adams producer, Yeah, James producer as well, gonna say,
but yeah, I'd never Paen sent to the Commissioner's Cup
until they tell me when it matters. I guess it
matters now obviously for the points in the seating, but
I still don't get that. And I wish it was
just divisions, but I think they rotated every year, so
I forget who's even in the rest of their Cup
(05:45):
division this year. But nevertheless, the Colts not Colts, I'm sorry.
The Pacers just need to win. They are zero to four,
worst starts since I believe nineteen eighty eight eighty nine,
so trying to get on the board here tonight, and
they have a good opportunity because Trey Young will not play.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I don't take anything you can get. Of course, the
other night they had some guys on the sidelines, had
a clean shot at the end, couldn't get it done
in Dallas. So we'll see if they can turn it
around at Gambridge later on tonight, And of course we've
got a lot of high school sectionals coming up later
on tonight. We've been following it all very closely. All
your long dominicant. Miranda from Channel thirteen is going to
stop by at seven thirty today and give us the
(06:18):
skinny on what's going on. This is always that weird
round in high school football. We're on paper. You go
into it, Kevin, and you could see some real mismatches
this evening.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Well, we'll see if one of the more illustrious records
in our state is broken tonight. Miles McLoughlin. I think
is nearing the ability to break Charlie Spiegel's career rushing record,
which is just amazing that someone has challenged that. I
want to say he's like two seventy something away, which
given his season, two seventy is something that seems rather doable.
(06:49):
And I actually think Knocks, where he plays, has a
somewhat notable opponent tonight, So you know, it's one of
these things where you get in the plaoff round. Obviously,
the further you go in the playoffs, he's going to
that record bar an injury. So that'll be something to
chat about tonight. But yeah, PACER's got an opportunity a
two point underdog at home. As James said, No, Trey
Young doesn't look like the Pacers will be getting many notable,
(07:11):
if any notable people back tonight. Johnny Furfrey Taylor Peter
both upgraded on the injury report but still buffalosted as questionable,
and then the Colts. I would say the injury report
got a lot better yesterday from a health standpoint, But
Grover Stewart pretty rare to see him miss the first
two days of practice. He has been one of the
most durable players in this entire roster. I want to
(07:33):
say he's missed maybe one to two games due to
injury and his entire career suspended for six games a
couple of years ago, and you certainly felt his loss
when he was out there when he was not out there,
So that will be a Friday storyline to watch.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Something we talked about a little bit yesterday is how
the emerging AFC picture is looking, and a lot of
people were saying that even with the poor record that
they had to start the season off with, that the
Baltimore Ravens James would be a team to watch and
really maybe even the team to win the AFC North.
With Lamar Jackson back last night, and I don't know
how healthy that hamstring was but he looked pretty good
(08:08):
last night. The Ravens looked like the Ravens Or is
it more of the Dolphins are just a really disorganized
mess right now?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Probably a little bit of both. I think Lamar Jackson
went healthy is one of the more electric players, one
of the best players. Electric probably like a disservice to
his level of play, but I think he's a future
Hall of Famer. So he looked like it last night,
and then the Dolphins. As I'm watching him, I was thinking, oh, man,
Bradley Chubb. Jalen Phillips wouldn't mind seeing one of those guys
in the Colts uniform.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah, Bradley Chubb, I think would be terrific. Off the end,
I think it would probably come at at a relatively
reasonable price. What do you think it would cost to
get a guy like Bradley Chubb?
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Probably a mid round pick. But at the same time,
he has three years left on his deal. I know
he doesn't have any guaranteed money after this year, but
that might make it tricky as far as like cap
space and salary and things like that. So Jalen Phillips,
to me, is probably the more realistic Colt's target because
I think he's in a contract year. He's got some
injury history, so that's not always great. But when you're
trading for guys who are not Tier one dudes, you're
(09:10):
gonna come with flaws.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
One are the chances that Mike McDaniel is no longer
the head coach of the Miami Dolphins by the end
of the day today, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, boy, that seems like a fair question. Yeah, considering
where they're at right now. Yeah, I thought last night,
you know, Phillips and Chubb both actually had some moments
in that game. I know, they got blown out and
Lamar Jackson what four touchdowns to the first three quarters,
but they stayed healthy I think as well, which is
important anytime you're around the trade deadline for a team
like the Colts. So yeah, Miami has been one of
(09:37):
the I would say most disappointing teams in the league
bar none this season. And you know, Baltimore, I guess
you know is positioned well. If you look at the
quarterbacks they're about to play the next five or six weeks,
I mean, there is an ability there to get on
a get on a run. So yeah, I would assume
that Miami could be looking at and making a change.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
It could be a lot of changes in Miami and
maybe the Colt sort of the beneficiary of some of
those when it's all said and done. And I also
just want to shout out to the old guys again.
Travis Kelsey has been revived in Kansas City. He's playing
well and every time we count, Mark Andrews has done
and Isaiah likely is ready to take over for him.
The guy does what he did last night and you
look up and he's wide open for a touchdown. He
(10:18):
did it twice again last night. The amount of just
ingenuity and knowledge and experience of these guys to be
able to find themselves in open space. And you give
some credit to the offensive coordinator too for scheming that up.
But they just keep on ticking.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
They don't look like they're getting old James.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah, but again I think that is also just a
testament to what we've seen from the Dolphins. They are
a hashtag not good, Jeff, and I honestly think that
when you look back at the money they spent at
quarterback and on certain positions to not have a playoff win,
I believe they have the longest playoff drought when it
comes to not having a win NFL history currently an
(10:57):
amount of talent that they invested in with that program.
I'm sorry looking at Kevin, he's got one eye peeking
out of his bacon.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
We're talking to Bacon this morning.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
But yeah, back to.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
The point, it's it's damning simp right now, James, you
wouldn't be looking at me too too aggressively.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
No, I am with you on the Chris Bacon.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Did you just make Mark's Halloween right there?
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Am I wrong? Raise your hand If you're a fan
of Limp Bacon, No, no, exactly, nobody likes that.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
You also, begin you've worn this costume on an annual basis.
You start getting bit sweaty around the nine o'clock hour,
I know.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
And the the peripheral vision very difficult to drive in
this especially turning a lot of f f A rs.
If you're turning left downtown this weekend, be prepared to
wait about thirteen minutes. So the FFAs are everywhere everywhere,
and their jackets. Talk about comfy looking jackets. Their jackets
look so cozy there. I believe we have some coaching
(11:53):
Halloween uh snippets to play throughout the show.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Do yeah, yeah, We'll get to those as the show progresses.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Can I give one shout out here before we move on?
Anytime Bacon wants to shout out eggs, I'm good for it.
Last year I sees me yesterday afternoon, an excellent afternoon
show from JMV up at the Ale and Porium and
a terrific turnout to honor one of the great humans
out there, John Griffin, are retiring sales officionados. Griff is
an absolute legend. I love him. I love his voice memos.
(12:22):
The only people that I know that do voice memos
are Peyton Manning, Joe Wrights, and John Griffin, and those
are all three I think terrific individuals. Awesome, awesome to
see so many legendary faces, so many throwback faces, frankly
up there at the ale Emporium yesterday. So John did
his thing per usual and great to see so many
people out there to honor the legend that is John Griffin.
He will be missed.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I always love to talk to John Griffin, and he'll
be around a little bit too. He's still gonna be
working two things.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
One our Indy five hundred draw that we do each year,
literally drawing drivers, and also during Christmas season, he gives
us all a scratch off and how great is that?
Every year a Christmas card of the Griffin family. Bucks
this year and a scratch off. I want two bucks
this year from griff excellent.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Love it all right, shows up and running. It is Halloween.
We're gonna have a lot of fun this morning. I
we'll tell you what's going on in the world of
sports coming up in a moment, and a loaded boat
of a guest today. We'll tell you all about that
in a moment. As we continue on ninety three five
and one oh seven five the fans.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Happy Halloween and it's Friday.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
How about that. You gotta love when Halloween mark is
on a Friday night. That's the best for parents and
had kids and nobody's got to go to work or
school tomorrow. Or maybe some people too, but most people don't.
It's gotta be fun for a family Friday night.
Speaker 7 (13:38):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
I like it a lot looking forward to it should
be a good time.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
All right. And if you see Bacon on the street,
just say hi to Kevin and we're good to.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Go this morning.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
You can if you'd like, well, okay, Krispy Bacon Krispy
Kevin Bacon. All right, let's talk about what's happening in
the world of sports. Colts and Steelers play Sunday afternoon,
one o'clock in Pittsburgh, and you were talking a little
bit about it a moment ago Kevin Bowen injury report.
Who were we really worried about some of like Grover
Stewart could be a concern.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Yeah, So three guys have yet to practice this week
on the fifty three MANU roster. That would be your
punt returner Anthony Gould, that would be defensive end Samson Ebacom,
and that would be Grover Stewart. Again, very rare to
see Grover, who typically rests one day, missed two. James.
I don't know if I've even seen him foot injury.
Sometimes guys watch practice when you were out there, I
(14:26):
don't think I've seen him. Hard to miss big Grove
out there. So you know, one thing I would say,
defensive tackle depth has been much improved this season from
where it was. Yeah, and Neville Gallimore I think coming
over from the Rams also, but Grover is Grover, and
so you know, his potential absence would definitely be something
(14:46):
that again the team's not used to and we'll see
how it goes. So that is the big injury I
think when we sit here on this Friday, Jalen Jones
once again a full participant in practice. So his re debut,
if you will, in twenty twenty five, looks like it
could happen on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
All right. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens show up on Thursday
and night. Lamar Jackson back after a couple of weeks
missing with a hamstring no problem, twenty eight to six
on the road against the Miami Dolphins, visibly frustrated at times.
Mike McDaniel over on the sideline. You gotta wonder, with
this being kind of a mini bye week, is that
the end for Mike McDaniel over in Miami.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Honestly, if you're on that beat and you're a reporter
for that team, you should have had this story written
weeks ago. So all you have to do if he
does get the boot is hit published and change the date.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
That happens. Stories like that get written.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
I wonder that when I was a kid, like, how
did they get this story up so fast?
Speaker 9 (15:41):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (15:41):
I was plucking on your downfall the entire time They
come out of that buy and face the Bills, by
the way, so that's the.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Bills of course, Sunday, enjoy your time off. Bill's playing
Sunday afternoon against the Kansas City Chiefs, will be a
marquee matchup there. We'll talk about many of these NFL
games a little bit later on in the show. It's
also a big weekend, Kevin for high school sports. Sectionals
getting underway. Now. A lot of times you see some
mismatches here, but we'll talk to Dominic Miranda from Channel
thirteen about this in a few minutes. But every once
(16:11):
in a while you get an upset too, and somebody
who thinks that they got an inside track on a
state championship all of a sudden, that's the end of that.
So we'll keep an eye on all of that a
little bit later on tonight. And Cathedral playing at Anderson,
you guys worried about that at.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
All semi final round. Just to clear everything up on
where we're at again, six A and for the most part,
all of five A didn't play last week due to
the number of teams there. So semi finals of sectionals, yeah,
great matchups all around. Greg Gregstraw LLNLC where he will
join us from tonight, and so he'll chat about that
at eight o'clock. But yes, plenty of local ties. Is
(16:44):
now we get the big schools involved with the little guys.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
All right? College football coming up this weekend. Number two
Indiana taking on Maryland. You said it's a four touchdown
difference right now by the oddsmakers, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Four touchdown for Notre Dame Boston College. Oh, I want
to say, I you AirLand and Purdue Michigan are both
three touchdown spreads Indiana. Of course, the road favorites three
thirty on CBS out there in College Park, and then
Purdue up to the Big House seven o'clock. Michigan a
three touchdown favorite over Purdue. So literally perdue. As the
(17:17):
hardest Big ten schedule left in November, Indiana has the
easiest Big ten schedule left in November here, So for IU,
it is just get to the white tape and don't
get hurt.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
All right. Indiana Pacers return to the field House tonight.
They'll take on the Atlanta Hawks. It is the first
of the NBA Cup. I was I think Commissioner's Cup
is WNBA and the NBA Cup of course for the guys.
And as Scotty points out, mark kind of ironic that
it's the women's that's called the Commissioner's Cup. With all
the trials and tribulations with their commissions that they have.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Maybe that'll be in the new bargaining agreement they change
the name of that thing anyway.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
That one starts at seven to nights. Trophy on the ground,
six thirty airtime right here on ninety three five and
one oh seven five the fan. And we just got
done with all the exhibition basketball in college hoops and
coming up soon, guys, in this next week or so,
we will start to have real counts in the standings basketball.
(18:10):
And I bring that up, James, because of the Purdue
boiler Makers. They're all in. They want to go for
a national championship this year. I don't think they're going
to be satisfied if they get to the Final four.
As amazing as that accomplishment always is, it feels like
it's national championship or bust for the boiler Makers.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Yeah, and rightfully so, you have a loaded team. You
did lose I think some athleticism from last year a squad,
particularly when it comes to the wings. But at the
same time, you have I believe the best player in
the country and Braden Smith. It is certainly the best point
guard in the country. So how does he help lead
this team and what will be certainly a memorable season
(18:46):
for Purdue for great reasons or painful reasons. You know
how it gets when it comes to college basketball.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
All right, and we'll be looking forward to Game six
of the World Series tonight eight pm. You got to
be home with your kids by eight pm tonight, Mark,
I think that's a good excuse for you right there.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
You try telling the sugared up kids that they got
to go into bed early. I don't think that's going
to go very well.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Toronto, sugar kids.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
I can think better than liquor it up.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
All I can think of is later the liquor up Kicker.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Remember the Beavis and butt Head cartoon when when Beavis
is all sugared up? Did you ever see that one?
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Mark?
Speaker 7 (19:24):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Yeah, I think so years ago?
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Classic stuff, all right, And uh, that's what we've got
going on in the world of sports.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Anything else this weekend you're looking forward to. Shout out
to those that have the cord one for the chord
last night are YouTube TVs out there. Yeah, no ESPN,
no ABC as of midnight, So me paying half a
mortgage to keep the cord has worked out. You know,
what is this going to last for a while? Usually
(19:53):
deadline spur action. Usually we get these things solved.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yeah, I'll give it like a week or something, even
a week of.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
The long time week we got.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Oh, don't worry. Every time this happens, they just increase
my likelihood to becoming a criminal because I'm watching whatever
I need to. It's just risk wowing up your laptop.
Hey man, this one is actually mine. But you know
anything that's company use. Hey take one for the team.
The Athletic boyd log in again on russerver. Very good.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Yes, what's that VPN locator changer thing? ESPN, ABC YouTube TV?
Speaker 2 (20:28):
That is the Yeah, And I saw some weird ESPN
campaign like SVP. Scott Van Pelt shared it and a
few others field Yates and they're like, hey, go to
this website and click on like like save our Networks
or something. I'm like, this looks like you're trying to
get me to pick up a virus on my laptop.
I'm not going to bat for anybody who's already made
(20:50):
with bunch of money YouTube billionaire companies figure it out.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Walrus at the Zoo, Save the Walrus at the Zoo
sign this petition over here. That seems like quite the
statement there from the ESPN higher ups.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
All Right, we're gonna check in with Don Dominic Miranda
on sectionals and the semi finals. As Kevin said, for
a lot of them this evening on a Friday. We'll
do it next on ninety three five and one oh seven.
Speaker 10 (21:09):
Five they seesed a fan morning show with kb jab
and Jeff.
Speaker 11 (21:18):
My wife loves Halloween and she's really disappointed that she's
gonna miss miss it, uh this week. But kid, my
mother making me a homemade Superman or Batman costume because you.
Speaker 12 (21:32):
Know, back then we don't have a lot of money.
I mean that was high school. Maybe it was a pit,
but I.
Speaker 11 (21:37):
Think it was Superman, Batman. I was a snicker bar
when you see cup guy. So the costume one is
important to me is getting you know, all the candy.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Kurt Signetti kind of sounds like a Halloween guy right
there the way he's talking about that. But he's got
the Indiana Hoosiers looking scary to everybody else in college
football right now. That was I'm talking about Halloween at
his house, Indiana playing at Maryland this weekend. But we've
got a lot of great high school football coming up
later on tonight. And as we've been doing all season
long on Friday mornings, Dominic Miranda from Channel thirteen joins
(22:13):
us for a little operation football. Are you a costume
guy out and about with a camera tonight, Dominic? Are
you playing it straight this evening?
Speaker 9 (22:21):
Playing it straight out and about? Perhaps the costume at eleven?
I guess, oh, I like that.
Speaker 12 (22:29):
The tees, that's the teas all right.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Sounds like a play in so professional team I know.
So yeah, we've got a lot of football tonight. And
obviously at this point in the playoffs, you don't always
get a battle of the Titans. But are there some
real upset potential out there tonight?
Speaker 12 (22:45):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (22:45):
Certainly?
Speaker 9 (22:46):
And great to have five A and six A back
in the fold. Our first game of the week this
year was Warren Central Lawrence North, and that was an awesome,
awesome game. So why not go back to the well
Lawrence Central at Lawrence North. Laurence Central can absolutely win
that game every single game. MORENS North's plays in comes
down to the wire as a high scoring game, is
(23:07):
a crazy game, is a big twelve of old games.
So very much looking forward to that one. Another one
that got my eye on Zionsville visiting Westfield. Zionsville not ranked,
but probably one of the best, you know three and
five teams you're gonna see, I mean, really impressive season.
They've kept a lot of games close and they just
have a brutal schedule. So we'll see if they can
keep it close against Westfield. Westfold's got a great defense.
(23:30):
Another team we went we covered once this year because
they're kind of far away, but did Operation Football Sunrise kickoffs.
There was Cascade, all right. They ranked second and Class
three A. They're averaging almost sixty points this year, giving
up only eight. They put up ninety eight points in
a football game this year against Greencast. Yeah, ninety eight
(23:51):
to thirteen was the final there, and I think they
called off the dogs late, so I know you it's
pretty obvious by the what.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
The dogs out.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Yeah, caught them off late.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Ninety eight, scored ninety eight three quarters.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Who let him out?
Speaker 6 (24:05):
Dogs ran away? Dogs ran away.
Speaker 9 (24:09):
So they're playing at Try West, all right, and we
know what the Sorgy kid can do, so looking to
see if cascades for real, for real. This is a
great test, but I think they have a good chance
to win three a as anybody so really interested in
that one new poal visits playing field. We talked about
it New Palace and buzz saw Columbus East can give
(24:29):
Wiland some trouble and I think Danville could give bron
Collie some trouble.
Speaker 6 (24:32):
So outside of that, got our.
Speaker 9 (24:34):
Eyes on Brownsburg and Pike Greenfield Central Penalty Heights. But
it's going to be a great night, and I'm sure
that's something crazy is gonna happen between it being Halloween
and kind of the first round in earnest of sessionals
for five and six. Ay, something crazy it's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
So I'm excited, Dominic. So we have, as you alluded to,
Lawrence Central heading back to Lawrence North. They lost that
game by a touchdown earlier this year and last year
they lost a Lawrence North in the section round as well.
So how do you think this will? Patterson led group
is embracing this opportunity because it feels like that's the
(25:11):
hump they can't get.
Speaker 9 (25:12):
Over, right, Okay, I'm a huge Will Patterson fan, by
the way, really as the boys fired up talk to
him ahead of the very first game this season, like
we said, and the perfect guy to be leading that
program even despite the record, And I don't think there's
much to say, Like they keep it they keep it
close with almost everybody they play, I feel like, and
(25:34):
they play up to their competition. They play down to
their competition, Like they lose to Ben Davis by one thirty,
one thirty, not a great Ben Davis team. Very next
week they lose to Karmel by three. Karmel might win state.
So I don't know, like they absolutely can beat anybody
in the state on any given week. So I don't
think there's much to say of like, you guys can
(25:54):
do this. We've seen we can't play with anybody. Let's
put a full four quarters together. Because the great thing
about Indiana is record doesn't matter. You're gonna make the postseason.
I remember when I was a boy, all right, going
back in a time machine here. Two thousand and five,
the Northwood Panthers for three and six, entering sectional play,
(26:15):
ratted off a crazy run with a freshman quarterback one
three a state against Shatards seven to zero. All right,
anything can happen this time of year.
Speaker 12 (26:24):
That was my high school.
Speaker 9 (26:25):
By the way, napan in Indiana had to give a
shout out to the boys.
Speaker 6 (26:27):
But I think Lawren Central can get it done.
Speaker 9 (26:30):
I really do.
Speaker 12 (26:31):
So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Shout out to Will Patterson is a great player at IU.
Dominic Brando with us here whr where you can find him? Dominic.
Your least favorite Halloween candy.
Speaker 12 (26:41):
Is what candy corn?
Speaker 6 (26:44):
By far?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
I knew I liked you on Wednesday.
Speaker 9 (26:48):
I don't get it. Can we collectively as a society
come together in agreement and say candy corn is a farce?
Speaker 1 (26:54):
It's face Yeah, the pumpkin candy corn. I can get
by with a little bit, but yeah, the general candy corn.
I think it's so wins damn filling up my call
over there and the at the Colts complex and Dominic's
over there, and you know him and I make small
you know, chat about Notre Dame quite often, and next
thing you know, he takes a whole bag of candy
corn and just dumps it right in my lap when
(27:16):
he informs me that if Notre Dame wins out, they
are not a lock for the playoffs, Dominic Miranda, what
the hell was that?
Speaker 9 (27:25):
Look, I'm falling victim of influence of some anxious Notre
Dame fans from northern Indiana. All right, just doing the
math like you could have a one loss Georgia tech
a one loss Louisville, one loss Miami. If Vanderbilt keeps
winning that that talk about scary stuff on Halloween, that's
(27:47):
scary stuff. If Vanderbilt keeps winning, I just look, they're
just gonna need just a tad bit of help. Went
out beat the teams supposed to be, beat them.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
By a lot.
Speaker 9 (27:58):
Le the chips fall where they may. I think it's
about a seventy percent chances. No Dame win's out there
in but some crazy stuff could happen where if your
your two lost resume or just they need Miami to
win the agency in Texas A and m to win
the SEC.
Speaker 12 (28:12):
That's what needs happened. Also.
Speaker 9 (28:14):
But look, I didn't mean to dumb candy.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Come on here, you did?
Speaker 6 (28:16):
I think, what.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Of course you meant to do that?
Speaker 12 (28:20):
There was a.
Speaker 9 (28:21):
Stretch in that storytelling there there's a disconnect from reality.
You don't say, Look, I think the Irish makes the playoff.
All right, next question?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Oh next, he get you that Kirk Signetti.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
By all means?
Speaker 3 (28:37):
All right, Tom, Well, look for a spirited Halloween costume
from you tonight at eleven o'clock.
Speaker 9 (28:42):
All right, all right, I'm excited.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
Hey, tune in eleven oclock. I have a great show
for it.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Happy Halloween, fellas.
Speaker 9 (28:47):
See if the colts getting kids done, and I think
the Irish will have no problems with bost Of College.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Thank you, sir, appreciate that. Dominic Miranda. Channel thirteen Operation

(29:12):
Slash fa f SA to get started today, don't wait,
secure your child's future today. That's FAFT set faf SA,
get your kid going in college.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
All right.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
We're getting ready for some college football this weekend as well.
And you talked a little bit about Notre Dame there,
and I kind of feel like they do need to
win out But I do feel like if they do
win out there in Kevin, so I wouldn't worry. As
long as they take care of the business, you should
be okay.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
That is my assumption until Dominic said that, Uh.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Oh, I do one note on candy corn. You know
that the pumpkin and the candy corn, it's made of
the same stuff, right.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I'm a shape guy. You know,
maybe there's something.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
To do with the with the sea ball type of thing.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Yeah, yeah, maybe maybe it is. Maybe it takes a
little deeper introspection here, but I can I can deal
with the pumpkin, the candycorn. I don't know, maybe the
yellow ass. But I'm just not a fan of.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
So favorite Halloween candy.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Yeah. I was just gonna ask James if you got
if you could say, I only get one candy all
night long tonight on Halloween, what would it be for you.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
I'm a like sour guy, or I'm not really a
big chocolate guy.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
You want a warhead in your bag?
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Yeah, warhead limonheads, carry warhead Skittles, life savers, that sort
of thing. But I pick a favor, probably like sour
patch kids that's solid.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Mark. What do you saw from the kids when they're
asleep the night after Halloween?
Speaker 5 (30:31):
I mean whatever is available. I'm kind of I like, uh,
I'm with James. I like sour candies. Those are good too.
I'm also a sucker for like Laughy taffy I really
like those. I like Laughy Taffy's, so those go there.
The caramel, the caramel apple pops, those always get it.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Donner Fire, I will.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Say last year Max Bowen came home with a a
blast from the past, and I waited for that kid
to go to bed, and then I just hadg up
a dunk Garou.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
You've mentioned that before. You're a big dunko guy.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Man, you can give that away. I mean, I thing
he's giving on Halloween.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
A little packet of dunker ruse. I don't know, maybe
five six of the little ruse I guess, and then
you know plenty of I seen to do the dunking there.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Did he get any of those? He did not?
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Okay, he's more of a Skittles guy.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
I hear you shout outs to Skittles, which you continue
to undermine.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
But I'm as not the most popular, but I love this.
I always take it from the kids. The one hundred
thousand dollars bar Carmel, Well, why it's Krispy treats inside there.
I like it.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
I'm not familiar to a thousand grand, thousand grand?
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Is that the bar you're talking about? Under grand?
Speaker 3 (31:37):
One hundred grand grand, one hundred thousand dollars, hundred grand? Yeah,
one hundred thousand, one hundred grand is one hundred thousand.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Kevin, Oh, I get I guess you're right here. Clearly
the banking costume isn't helping my my brain on this Friday.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
So it is a sports are not an economics show. Yeah,
I've never called this one hundred thousand.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Bar, one hundred grand bar?
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Is that's it?
Speaker 7 (31:58):
Like?
Speaker 3 (31:58):
Give me that and I'm reseas is.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
You get me a hundred grand bar? I'm would think one,
where did you do your shopping? Because you can find
those anywhere.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Reseas is old, faithful, you know, Yeah, Tiger on a
Sunday and turn gran.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
I'm like, eh, demographic might be a little older.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
It's not a lot. It's not a lot different from
the TwixT. I'll take a twix.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
Too, twix Hey, but again, chocolate, I'm good all I
know is almond joy and mounds can kick rocks.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
You're handing those out?
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Be ready?
Speaker 1 (32:28):
You don't you don't like your whopper? Those are good?
Speaker 2 (32:32):
No, that's old school too, Whoppers and.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Milk duds and no trash trash, Nope, tosy rolls trash?
Speaker 1 (32:42):
What about totty roll Pope, Tootsier rolls look like my
kids give me a blowpop instead.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
I'll take the gum over the totsy.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Roll sounds good. We'll take suggestions on the fan text
line this morning on the best and worst of Halloween candy.
As we rolled through the day. Two nine ten seventy
is the number to call James and Kevin uh both
without even a bacon costume. On yesterday, you were out
at Colts Camp just to check out the festivities on
a Thursday, and I guess Thursday. The first thing you're
looking for is who didn't practice on Wednesday but is
(33:10):
back out there today, right, That's kind of what you're
looking at.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Yeah, so a lot of guys did return to practice
Josh downs and at Cross among those that have missed Wednesday,
But three guys right now have yet to practice this week.
Anthony Gould or punp returner. I assume that would go
to Downs or maybe a Mirabdullah if he were unable
to go, and then you had Samson Eviacom miss again
the defensive end. The biggest name though, is Grover Stewart
(33:34):
literally and figuratively. He has yet to practice this week
a foot injury, so his status very much up in
the air as we get ready for this final practice
of the week. I don't know if Pittsburgh is just
like punishing, you know, up the middle run team per se.
They're a little banged up in the offensive line interior.
But Grover you know again, has not missed much time
really at all in his NFL career. The six week
(33:57):
suspension is really the only time he's missed in the
last few years, so life without him would be interesting
to watch. Granted, I don't think this is maybe the
most menacing rushing attack necessarily to test you in that area.
So we'll see how it all plays out here coming
up later today.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
All right, looking forward to that to the Pittsburgh Steelers
on tap coming up on Sunday afternoon, and just another
opportunity for another AFC victory and continue to rise to
the standings. I mean, when you look at tiebreakers down
to the very end. If you assume that Kansas City's
going to start playing a lot better, I don't know
that Baltimore, they're probably too far back to ever catch
the Colts at this point in time, you would think.
(34:35):
But that's aside from head to head that would be
the conference record. So for Colts and Chiefs, I guess James,
that's starting to look like a big, big football game
in a couple of weeks at Arrowhead Stadium.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Absolutely, you know. I was looking up some status for
a story. I'll have a posts later today, but looking
at points per drive, I I will talk a lot
about that with the Colts and right now, if they
were to maintain their three point four to six points
per drive, it will be the highest mark of any
team over the last twenty five years. Number ten on
(35:07):
that list is this year's Chiefs, who started off, as
you remember, kind of slow. So I was I was
going through this, I was like, dang, like they already
bounced back like that, and so I think that number
and I have to get too nerdy about it kind
of lets you know how their offense has been operating
over the last couple of weeks, especially since the return
of Rahi Rice.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Well, anytime you get Patrick Mahomes a game breaker, lookout.
And you know what's crazy to me that over the
last couple of years, Andy Reid really hasn't had like
the stud running back Kareem Hunt. They kind of got
on the back side of his career. He's great for
goal line touches and short yarded situations. Isaiah Pachecko really
hasn't panned out that much the last couple of years.
Could you imagine that team if they had just even
(35:49):
a guy that could get you sixty seventy yards a
game on the ground regularly.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Yeah, I mean, I feel like Pa Check's a pretty good
running back. I know he's a little banged up right now.
You know, it's kind of going back to the Steelers
here on Sunday for just a second. Again, the Cults
are road favorite. Pretty rare for them to go into
Pittsburgh as that. I did a Pittsburgh radio hit the
other day and the host brought up if the Colts
score early, which when I hear if the Colts score early,
(36:16):
I more think of when the Colts score early. At
this point, given how they've been this season, they were
in full agreement that the fire Tomlin chance will be
loud inside of It's not Heinz Field anymore. I think
it's like Aristocrat Field, whatever that restaurant is at fifty
second College. They're restless there, and the Packers went, excuse me,
(36:40):
the Steelers had to go silent count in their own
building on Sunday Night football. I think Pittsburgh fans are
fed up with Mike Tomlin, as crazy as that might
sound to some people on the outside, but you know,
basically stuck in this whatever a notch above Jeff Fisher is.
That's what they feel like they are. You know, nine
and seven, ten and six every year, haven't won a
playoff game in years. So I think it's paramount in
(37:04):
a game like this for the Colts to continue to
have that great first quarter success like they've had, because
I think then it creates a little bit of a
maybe hostile environment on their own team, as wild as
that sounds. And for those that haven't been keeping track
with the Steelers, they are a mess on defense, absolute
mess defensively. I was listening to dan Or Lobski earlier
this week, says he watches Steelers tape and often writes down,
(37:26):
what are they doing here? So Shane Stiken has feasted
on Mike Tomlin and Tara Austin, their defensive coordinator in
recent years of Pittsburgh ball, accounts to one of the
more blah defenses in the NFL. So I think there's
an opportunity there for another big offensive day for the Colts.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Looking forward to seeing if this you know, I was
launching Chris Sims yesterday. I want to watch this offense
continue to roll. He called the Colts offense James almost
perfect at this point in time, and we mentioned the
historical run there on in terms of getting points at
the end of all these the fact that they're averaging
what three point six four point.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Yeah, three point four six?
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Crazy, right, three point four six I transcribed that. But yeah,
But to have guys who want to be critical and
try to be critical say that offense looks almost perfect
right now, that's crazy considering where this team was three
hundred and sixty five days ago with a different quarterback.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
And I know a lot of.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Things have changed, but it's to go from that to
this is insane.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Yeah, it's one of the more ridiculous or turnarounds we've
seen in recent years in the NFL, and again it
feels like if you were going to have a turnaround,
this was a year to have it, because everyone else
feels a bit vulnerable. I mentioned Kansas City a few
minutes ago, and yeah, they have still been the team
to beat every year in the playoffs in the AFC,
(38:50):
but they're vulnerable this year. They're not looking like they're
just some super crazy juggernaut. Same with the Bills, Same
with the Ravens obviously, who are trying to get back
into the playoff picture. So I think the Colts have
opened up quite the window for themselves.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Well, it's gonna be fun to see him go on
the road and start to do this as the as
I mentioned that the road starts to tilt up just
a little bit with the schedule from here on out,
and I think there're certainly as they seem ready, they're
in stride, they're ready to hit that schedule. Is there
any team right now other than Kansas City that really
really scares you even though the schedule is getting tougher, Well,
you mean on their schedule or just in general in
(39:26):
general one, but on their schedule specifically right.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
Now, the GAT Seattle would be an interesting game kind
of mid December. But yeah, I mean schedule wise, those
would be the teams. You know, from a balance standpoint,
it looks like Detroit has you know, they've been really
banged up defensively, they still come together. But in the AFC,
you know those quarterbacks that have won in January. You know,
what would a Josh Allen Bill's team look like on
the road here in opening round. I mean that could
(39:51):
be a potential matchup. Mark, By the way, I might
need some help in the bathroom here during the break.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Oh sure, volunteer me away.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Doesn't seem to be the most self efficient.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
You've made it the last few years. I don't know
why you need my assistance.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
All of a sudden, Mark, I've gotten someone pointing out
that Kevin's bacon looks a little limp this morning.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Oh that's slander right there.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
There's nothing limp about this chair right now.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
David Hammer from Greenwood says in Jeff's defense. The one
hundred Grand Bar's original name was the one hundred thousand
Dollars Bar, and it was renamed in the mid nineteen eighties.
It's been around since nineteen sixty four, of the year
he was born. David Hammer from Greenwood.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
Look at that.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
I just remember we called him. We always called them
hundred grand bars, even after the eight.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
If I see you a hundred grand bar, I'm letting
you know you must be retired.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Adam points out that, and I think he's right on this.
When you know those big variety bags that you get,
he says, mister goodbar is also elite and really carries
the team in those bags of the cheapest candy you
can get it.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Kroger, I got one of those. Those things are a
lot more expensive than I thought.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Everything's more expensive these days.
Speaker 12 (40:53):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
We got a lot of recas.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
If you shove up to the bow and Household, you're
gonna get some receas. Thank you to Jeremy. Here, I
laughed of this. He goes, hopefully your bacon doesn't start burning.
Not sure you want Jeff Rickard putting that fire out.
Look at that and start stomping on you. Look at that,
Jeff a firefighter.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Here, Kyle J says, your bacon just looks a little soft.
That's all who fighting words, Kyle, Kyle J.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Kyle Jay and kissed my ass. Wow, Jeff, is that
one of the lazier costumes. I've seen just walking out
the front door and all of a sudden you see
the firefighter hat and you're like, ah, I might as well,
half asses.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
You're not too far from being wrong.
Speaker 6 (41:32):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
I'm from the bedroom and kept on walking.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
I'm aut a point in life. I'm not spending more
money on hostume on co.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
So did you actually go buy this?
Speaker 3 (41:40):
No, it was around the house. It's been around the house.
The boys. One of the last things they ever were
when they were young teenagers was a firefighter. I'm like,
there we go. We're good. Plus, as I mentioned earlier,
it kind of goes with the job in general, just
putting fires out all day.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
So it's a lot of Halloween student sections tonight across
the I I would enjoy seeing some of that if
I was still doing the high school scene is ours
covering sports.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
They always had a lot of fun with that stuff.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
All right, we'll talk more about that. Greg Raagshaw coming
up in just a moment. We've got that Mata at
a thirty. Matt Taylor is always on a nine o'clock
Friday morning schedule. He'll join us to talk about the cults.
It's all straight Ahead, ninety three five and one seven
to five.
Speaker 12 (42:15):
Of the fan.
Speaker 10 (42:18):
They sei sed a fan morning show with kby HB
and Jeff.
Speaker 8 (42:23):
There are some people that really get into Halloween, you know,
with with the costumes, with some themes, the candy, all
that kind of stuff. I don't remember being that enthralled
with it. But the team did have a did have
a Halleen party a week or ten days ago, which
(42:45):
was pretty cool, and it was a it was a
it was a it was a pretty good bonding bonding thing,
and some of the costumes were pretty compelling. So Jil,
the number one thing is that hopefully everybody says safe Halloween.
And uh but uh, I had not.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
Given it that much thought.
Speaker 8 (43:05):
So I can't say I appreciate the question, but I
acknowledge the question.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Rick was playing ball with you the other day talking
about Halloween.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
He was going he addressed it profound words there from
Rick Carlisle. Gotta love that Happy Halloween to everybody. He
will rock this on the sidelines. What if Rick Carlisle
literally just wore costume tonight on the sidelines.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
I would love that, but I do not.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
And that's get the Pacers their first one in the season.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
What would the odds on that.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Be Probably not very high. Honestly, it will be saying
the costume not to win. I think the Pacers get
the first one in the season time.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
I think it would be funny if he wore the
bacon costume and then he got a technical foul in
the bacon because I can just imagine Rick Carlisle yelling
at a referee, yahizz with a bacon costume?
Speaker 9 (43:51):
One?
Speaker 1 (43:52):
Can you get AiZ like a smother chicken? Can we
get a sizzling James Boyd right here with your.
Speaker 6 (43:58):
Rick right now?
Speaker 2 (44:00):
That's very good.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
I like it. That's James Boyd. Kevin Bacon Old also
known as Chrispy Bacon. Today, excellent Mark Dyton has gone
with six seven. I've gone with the firefighter today. If
you're not watching on YouTube, that's what's happening on the
radio this morning. And now we bring in our next guest.
So I'm sure can't wait to be a part of
(44:23):
this discussion. The one the Only. Greg rag Straw joined
us on the pay Less Lickers hotline. Greg, when was
the last time you dressed up as anything on Halloween? Greg?
You're still with us?
Speaker 6 (44:38):
You there?
Speaker 4 (44:39):
Sorry about that all right.
Speaker 3 (44:42):
Was the last time you. I remember being at a
company sponsored kind of Halloween party about seven eight years ago.
I think you were wearing like the the smoking jacket,
weren't you something like that?
Speaker 6 (44:54):
So I was able to.
Speaker 4 (44:56):
Get my hands on the Peyton Manning direct TV bats
row and that's what I was wearing.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
That's what it was.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
I remember. Now, Yes, good stuff.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
You and the kids out tonight are No, You're gonna
be working, aren't you.
Speaker 4 (45:10):
I'm a little busy working this evening, and my kids
have about aged out trick or treating.
Speaker 6 (45:16):
It was never my son's thing.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
My daughter is going to a high school Halloween party.
So and we have not bought the candy yet and
the k straw household because if we had, I would
have eaten by now already.
Speaker 8 (45:28):
So normous the.
Speaker 4 (45:29):
Candy purchases like Friday is like Halloween afternoon at three o'clock.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
For safety once you leave for work, basically is what
you're saying.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
So smart by you, Rag. That's discipline right there, is
what it is. The Great Gregg. I went to see
her Payless Slickers hotline Rake obviously locally will have plenty
to keep an eye on tonight. But if I'm not mistaken,
and I know the number sounds like a big one,
but it looks like we could have a state record
be broken tonight, potentially up there in knocks.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
Correct, Miles nna Gooflin is two hundred and seventy one
yards away from the Estate's all time rushing record. Now
they are playing a good team. They are playing Griffith
who is nine to one coming into the game, so
it will be a challenge. But yes, he is absolutely
within the striking distance tonight of a record that most
thought was an unbreakable record set by Charlie Spiegel six
(46:17):
years ago.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
And you bring up a good point they're playing a
good team. I mean, it goes without saying, but I
guess just remind everybody. Obviously if they lose, then you
know it could be tonight or never for this record.
Here did I see last week? Rake? He was over
four to sixty.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
In the game.
Speaker 4 (46:33):
I have lost track of the astronomical nature of the
numbers at this point, but anything seems believable from a
yardage total for Miles given the season he has had.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
I think it was forty two carries for four hundred
and sixty nine yards, which is just incredible in a
single game. Okay, if it wasn't LC and LN tonight Rake,
what else has your viewing interest?
Speaker 6 (46:55):
All Right?
Speaker 4 (46:55):
So there's a couple of games locally that kind of
get my attention. One of those would be Newpal and Playfield.
That's a ranked versus rank matchup. Again, Newpal would be
the favorite because Franklin had favored in five A, but
again from a draw standpoint, they're literally gonna play a
ranked team every round of the tournament, so they will
be battle tested if they're able to lift that five
(47:16):
A championship trophy at Lucas Oil on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Other game from a local standpoint would be Try West
and Cascade. Try West ended Cascade season last year. Castgade
is unbeaten and frankly, they have not played a close
game really since Week two and that's the only close
game they have played, and that is against four A Danville.
(47:37):
Castgade is really good and potentially a team that could
be playing at Lucas Oil Stadium. This is a big
week around the state for three A because you've got
that Griffith Knox game up north, You've got Cascade.
Speaker 12 (47:50):
Try West.
Speaker 4 (47:50):
Locally, and you've got Memorial and Gibson Southern that may
just decide the state champ playing tonight. Memorial had a
bye last week, Gibson Southern played last week. But those
are two of the top three or four teams in
three a's. So of all the classifications tonight we will
learn the most about three A this evening.
Speaker 6 (48:08):
Rake.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
I know you've been known this for a long time.
So from your perspective, do you get a little more
juice going into a game where you know these kids
they're playing for in their minds, their lives, you know,
their futures, their legacies or whatever, and you know there's
going to be joy and glory on one side and
heartbreak on the other.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
Of course, of course there's there's more drama to it.
You see it in the faces, you see it how
they play. But I will do the math for you.
We have in the neighborhood between three hundred and ten,
three hundred and fifteen teams that play high school football
in the state of Indiana. After the night, there will
be ninety six teams left in the postseason. Before we
(48:50):
get to November, we will be lound to less than
one hundred teams still playing high school football, and so
that reality dawns that you know, two thirds of the
seniors are done with their high school football careers as
of this evening, So that is not lost on me
going into a nightlight tonight.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
Greg Greg Straw joining us on the paid Less Slickers hotline.
You've been around in the state of Indiana for a
long time, and I know we've talked about it a
little bit. Indiana on such a role and the schedule
seems to favor them, and you know their challenge is
to not take the foot off the gas pedal. But
as someone who's lived here and grown up with this
your whole life, what goes through your mind when you
watch Indiana just dismantling a team like UCLA last week.
Speaker 4 (49:31):
I've never seen anything like this from Indiana. And I remember,
you know, being a kid in a four channel existence
growing up in southern Indiana. When IU football was on,
you would want to watch it. And I was lucky
enough that like my formd of years watching football where
the peak Bill Mallory years, like, they made a bowl
game my senior year of high school and it was
(49:51):
like the fifth or six bowl game they had played in,
you know, over the course of a seven or eight
year run and so but nothing has been like this,
and even last year it's not been like this, and
they're just mauling people. Well, we say about the Colts
offensive line, we say about both sides of the offensive
(50:12):
and defensive line of scrimmage. As far as the Indiana
Hoosiers are concerned, and this is their toughest test remaining
of their schedule before they would get to a Big
Ten championship game, because Jeff, this is the only team
they are playing that has won a Big Ten game.
So far, the combined records of the four teams left
on their schedule of the Big Ten is one and seventeen. Now,
(50:38):
Indiana has never won an Happy Valley, so there's something
to be said for that game coming up next week,
even with Penn State cratering and kind of falling off
off the charts. So I'm sure Maryland will give them
a test tomorrow. But you get Penn State that's fired
their coach with Sconsin's got their worst team in thirty years,
and Purdue that has lost sixteen consecutive games to Power
(50:59):
for comp addition, that's what stands between Indiana and playing
in the Big Ten Championship game for the first time on.
Speaker 1 (51:07):
The plate of Greg greag shraw here this weekend. Obviously
a Colts postgame show coming up Sunday afternoon Indian Pittsburgh here.
Rake should Sunday have any influence on the Colts and
the trade deadline, which is Tuesday, No, I mean, I.
Speaker 4 (51:21):
Think they kind of know what their needs are. And again,
you know, from a defensive backstandpoint, you're getting Jalen Jones
back this week. You would hope Shavarius Ward is a
couple of weeks away and is back with you after
the bye week. It should be noted saw Mike Hilton
in the locker room yesterday and obviously he is, you know,
(51:42):
practice squad injured, but he's able to be called back up,
So that may affect whether they make and move from
a defensive backstandpoint, And then the question becomes, can you
get something at the defensive end position from a pass
rushing standpoint that helps you that is different from what
you have right now, And so I am probably leaning
(52:04):
towards I'm not sure the Colts are going to make
a move because I think they feel that the health
of players will improve what they've got maybe if things
go Hey, why are on something that might change things
for Chris Ballard? But I kind of think you know
what you are at this point going into week number
nine is.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
Greg Reig Shawl the payless liquor hotline always available to you,
my friend. Have a great game tonight and we can
find you win and where again this evening.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
So tonight seven o'clock on my indie TV and a
free stream once we get to the sexual and regional
rounds at ihsaatv dot org. Lawrence Central and Lawrence North.
When these two teams played back in week number one,
Ellen scored with two seconds left to go in the
game to get a thirty eight to thirty one win.
LC hung with one of the best teams in the
(52:51):
state and Carmel two weeks ago. I think this was
going to be really good tonight.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
All right, buddy, enjoy your evening. We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 6 (52:58):
Thanks.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
Alas there is the one, the only Greg rag Straw
joining us this morning on a Friday, on a Halloween.
And yeah, Greg walking around the Peyton Manning kind of
bathrobe always a sight to see. James Boyd, I'll take
your word for it. You're working hard over there today.
I know that you got a lot going on over there,
(53:19):
but you were out at the Colt's practice yesterday. I
guess one of the things that's going to be interesting
to me too. I know that there isn't unless DK
Metcalf has an unbelievable day. Kevin, you've talked about the
fact there's kind of a lot of no name receivers,
maybe some tight end play to look out for for
the Steelers, But we've talked about the fact that Aaron
Rodgers is looking a little bit better. Do you are
(53:41):
you worried all the way that he might be able
to attack the secondary and Luena Rumo's defense coming up
this weekend.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
Yeah, it's kind of funny when you think about Pittsburgh.
I would say more of the worry in recent years
has been okay, t J. Watt can wrect the game,
whereas they sit here forty eight hours from Sunday and think,
probably more of my concern is offensively, you know again
Metcalf without Shaverrius Ward, Okay, what does that matchup look like?
I was, I think too quick to just absolutely push
(54:08):
Aaron Rodgers off the cliff, although Mark probably wanted me
to do that. In that I think there was a
little bit left there in the tank.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
Oh casually he said that, you know Jalen Warren.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
And it looks like Pat Fryermith I think practice yesterday.
So their tight end group, as you mentioned, Jeff has
got some bodies there that can impact the game. I
don't want to undermine TJ. Watt by any means, but
Brainsmith's done a really nice job. Brainswith and the Colts playing,
I should mention has done a nice job in years past,
and it just seems like Pittsburgh's defense is in such
dysfunction right now. Plus the Colts are a wagon offensively,
(54:40):
So yes, I would say to answer it all, yeah,
there probably is a little bit more. You know, how
does this become a game? How is this kind of
a back and forth, et cetera, et cetera. I would
say Pittsburgh has a few more things offensively that would
keep me up than defensively, which is not something I've
said in the past about the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
All right, well, it's kind to come your way at
one o'clock one one of the other from Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon.
Our pregame coverage starts at ten am right here on
ninety three five and when on seven to five to
the fan. You can also hear it over on Hank FM.
And I also wander tonight you got Indiana Pacers coming
back to town there at the Fieldhouse, and I like
the fact that there are a lot of people that
think maybe tonight's tonight for the first win against the
(55:18):
Atlanta Hawks, who are coming in here without Trey Young.
Speaker 12 (55:20):
James.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
Yeah, absolutely. I mean we're not saying this is going
to be their first win because they played good basketball.
Is because the other team might be more banged up
than you and they're down one of their more orbital
is the right word. But the player who everything runs
through is Stray Young. So not having him is going
to be a big blow for that team and it
could be out for a little bit of time because
(55:41):
of that sprained. I think it's like a right knee.
So yeah, this is a golden opportunity. I guess pun
intended for the Blue and Gold to you know on
the board for the first time this year, and you know,
in the month on a high note.
Speaker 3 (55:53):
Last time out in Dallas where they came you wide
open three away at the buzzer from from maybe winning
their first game of the year. The starting five Kevin
was Pascal Siakam, Isaiah Jackson, Jeris Walker, aaron Ne Smith,
Ben Shephard. You expect that to be pretty much the
same starting five tonight. I'm team throw a point guard
in there? Which one I get behind? Really any of them,
(56:15):
but Ray J. Dennis would probably be the one. Mac McClung.
You know, Quentin Jackson's played some points, so that's where
I would go. I get that if you're listing out
your five best players, like Shepherd is probably one of them.
But right now, I just think the if you look
at two or Wednesday night, I mean, they was really
the starting unit that had the struggles.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
So I mean Nie Smith shot it horrifically. Jaris Walker
was a roller coaster. Shepherd struggled to shoot.
Speaker 2 (56:39):
It's sorry for laughing. I just think the word horrific
is so funny, especially with you sitting here in this
bacon custom.
Speaker 3 (56:46):
It's got a point.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
Can you see through my bacon, James? Can you just
you know, take me.
Speaker 2 (56:51):
Don't I have the what is it the Chauncey Billups
glasses or whatever, I don't have any of those working?
Speaker 1 (56:57):
Well, I say, horrific. I get you're probably more of
about how I look right now, but I say horrific
because it was a worshooting night the Pacers have had
in four years. Yeah, so I think that qualifies as
horrific there that was.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
Pre Halliburton then yeah, yeah, twenty.
Speaker 1 (57:11):
One, I believe I want to say, go goa Batadze
was in the starting lineup that night, So shout out
to Goga, who's still getting some clock I think for
the moment. So again, I just I don't know if
that's going to cure all, but I think having someone
that at least is used to being a point guard
Ben Shepherd is not, would provide some of that. Now,
having said that, tonight, the Hawks are kind of in
(57:33):
a similar boat. Without Trey Young. They don't have a
litany ball handler, so they're probably gonna be the Dice
and Daniels, Nick Hill, Alexander Walker, Porzingis. I mean they are,
what's what's the first overall pick Resa Scha from a
couple of years ago. They're gonna be a little bigger.
So I don't know, you know, maybe hythewise the Pacers
would would match that, But I just thought the offense
(57:55):
with the starting unit was just such a struggle to
watch that. I would like to see a point car
thrown into that group and see what happens with it.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
I think rag Jie had five assists and six points
in just thirteen minutes the right something like that.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
Hell, I feel like he had more than six. I
feel like he had six points in the last two
minutes of the game.
Speaker 3 (58:11):
I could look at that. I'm going completely off memory.
But ray Ja, Yeah, no, he was six of thirteen.
You're right, he had seventeen points. Yeah, to go with
those five. Sorry, I thought he had more than six points.
So again, six field goals, that's what I was looking at,
you know.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
Him getting a little bit more of the starting clock,
I think would be something to explore. So injury report
hasn't improved much. Johnny Furfey listened as questionable, Tayling Peter
bumped up to questionable, So still without Andrew Nemhart, Benedick Matheren,
et cetera, et cetera, and again back to back for
the Pacers. The Warriors played last night. Miles Turner I
saw had his best game as a buck. Miles Turner
(58:46):
back in the news yesterday, did I see that.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
Yeah, I went back and listened to the audio, which
we want to have time to play today, but we'll
certainly get into it Monday when he is or you
all can get into it as I'm traveling back from Pittsburgh.
But yeah, I think Miles is a bad way of
saying things that probably aren't all that controversial, but it's
just how you say it. Because the podcast Cliff that
(59:10):
went vioral yesterday of him saying like Tyree's talks a
bunch of stuff and he knows that he's not gonna
get beat up and all that that came after he
was like praising Tyre's being like a heel and a
troll and kind of getting under the skin of every
other team. So yeah, Miles would probably just stop talking
in Mike's well.
Speaker 3 (59:28):
To your point though, too, because I saw that initial
thing and I went back and listened to the same
thing you did, contexts everything. If you listened to the
overall interview on that podcast, he had nothing but great
things to say about Tyres for the most part.
Speaker 6 (59:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (59:40):
So again, being a fan of the sport, I like
the pettiness. I mean, hey, if fans want to just
take that one little piece and be like, you disrespected
our guy. I'm all for it.
Speaker 1 (59:51):
I know sometimes to get torn on the honest athlete criticism.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
Oh expand on that please, Well, we always want him
to say stuff, and then when they say stuff, we.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
Hammer him right, exactly right, exactly all we we think
Shane Styking and Daniel Jones are boring as hell in
front of a mic. So then when people are honest
and then you just immediately criticize him, then part of
me is like, why would they ever be honest if
we just criticize them immediately?
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
This is why no one could ever make me, Hey,
Kevin Durant so realist athlete of the twenty first century.
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
I do struggle with that at times of like the
immediate sort of all you want is honesty and candor,
at least that's all I want.
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
I think Daniel Jones is a burner. There's no way
he made it through New York media without getting a
couple clapbacks in there. Let's check his phone.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
He's too busy watching film.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
That's an excuse. He scrolled through Twitter or TikTok getting
his licks back.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
So you're saying he's late to the team Dinners, not
because he's in film study. He's actually just using the
burnt everybody. No, yeah, yeah, actually a good player, that
mister six seven. Let's check it.
Speaker 10 (01:00:55):
Down the morning, checkdout on Nutty Sweet five.
Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
And I do like the six to seven concept though,
to to just put a six on the front of
the shirt and seven on the back. Where'd that come up?
Where'd you come up with that one?
Speaker 5 (01:01:11):
Well, the Amazon delivery did not come, so I had
to adjust accordingly. And uh, I'd be surprised to know
I've I've pivoted from what the original costume was gonna
be in the in the case of a backup needed.
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
So what was the original speed? That's an off air conversation.
Speaker 5 (01:01:26):
Well, you're gonna wear it on the air, right, Well, yeah,
but I feel like talking about it on air as
opposed to showing it.
Speaker 7 (01:01:32):
You know me.
Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
It means if he actually says what it was gonna be,
I have to tell him, no, you can't do that
next year. No, I wouldn't do it next year. It's
not topical. Then all right, sounds like a plan, I
will say. The fire chief hat was the second go
to I thought about being a slee stack. You remember
those things The Star Wars Theater. Okay, no, it was
a Saturday morning live action cartoon and it was just
(01:01:54):
like a crazy character thing. But the mask. I wouldn't
be able to talk into the radio with the mask on, so.
Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
I went that, So you're gonna wear a seisty, as
young people say today?
Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
Is that what they call?
Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Yeah, they call it a seisty.
Speaker 6 (01:02:05):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
Man, Jeff's gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
Be in his rapper era of the coach would be
wearing white on Sunday, I believe, right? Is that the plan?
Speaker 6 (01:02:12):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
I hope the Steelers are not wearing what they wore
Sunday night. That's all I care about.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
They're like boot leg power Rangers you call Halloween costumes.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
Coats at Steelers one PM Sunday. Pregame starts at ten am,
and then the Colts go for their eighth win in
nine tries this season against another AFC opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers,
who have fallen on by Pittsburgh standards, a little bit
of rocky times right now, James?
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Is it though, Jeff? I feel like they do this
every year, like they always have a fairly decent record.
They might start off kind of hot and they fizzle out,
cool off, and then they get into the playoffs and lose.
This is the recipe that we've seen the last what
five six years. I want to say, they haven't won
a playoff games since maybe twenty sixteen. I know it's
been longer than the Colts as far as that drought goes.
(01:02:56):
So I'm I'm gonna say this is par for the
course for them.
Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
They there are four and three, and as we sit
here today, they are on top of the AFC North,
despite the fact that the Ravens are the betting favorites
to win that division. They won their third game of
the year last night. They're now three and five. Lamar
Jackson recovering enough from a hamstring injury to get on
the field and throw four touchdown passes, two of them
going to his tight end Mark Andrews last night twenty
(01:03:20):
eight to six of the Miami Dolphins. And the question
this morning, Kevin, is is that the end is that
the last game for Mike McDaniel in Miami.
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
Yeah, wouldn't sell me at all. You know, I think
you could be looking at that news item here anytime
you get the extended mini buy that could definitely be
in play. Here, and obviously what would that mean for
the trade deadline. I would think Miami falls into the
group of teams that could very well be selling. They
have a longtime GM who has really had up until
this point, kind of a similar resume to Chris Ballard, obviously,
(01:03:49):
those who are in two very different situations here in
the twenty five seasons. So could Chris Greer and Miami
down there, could they be selling a little bit. Bradley
Chubb Jalen Phillips both had some notable plays last night.
I'll be very curious if they are a dolphin come
Wednesday morning and again an NFL trade deadline Tuesday at four.
Speaker 3 (01:04:07):
All right, well, keep an eye on that. Our ears
to the ground, as they like to say. And he
had a pacers back at the field house. Tonight's seven
pm tip, six thirty yeartime right here on ninety three
five and one to seven five the fan. They'll be
taking on the Atlanta Hawks. It's their first appearance in
the NBA Cup. James Boyd that everybody is all excited
about right now.
Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
I want to see the court, the new court for
this NBA Cup. I think it's that boom baby court
which looks great. Okay, then not that I'm satisfied, because
I was gonna ask if we still have the boom
Baby reference on the court.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
Mark double check that for me. But I'm pretty sure
that's what we got to sidey Gambridge executive decision.
Speaker 2 (01:04:41):
Let's make that a permanent placement on there in the
hardwood and Gamebridge boom Baby shout out to Legendsleth Leonard,
I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Last night in the NBA San Antonio Spurs win again.
It's their first. It's hard to believe that this franchise
has never been five and zero in their history. Before night,
Victor wimen Yama leading him again twenty seven points, eighteen rebounds.
They are five and oh for the first time in
franchise history.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
How many windless teams are left? Pacers nets? Who else?
Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
I don't look at the bottom and standings very often.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
Well, unfortunately, that's where the pacers are right now.
Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
Yeah, I know, I'll look at.
Speaker 6 (01:05:18):
It once for them.
Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
I'm looking for the other bottom dweller.
Speaker 6 (01:05:21):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Pelicans? Maybe Brooklyn nets are zero to five? Yeah, Pacers
nets and Pelikans, that's it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Yep, everybody else. Washington only has one win, Pacers to
get the win tonight. Oh, I love this, court, Mark,
this is great.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Could you name the three undefeated teams in the NBA
right now?
Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
I think we've got San anton Spurs and four teams.
Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Four teams, Mark, is it your Bulls one of them?
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
The Bulls are undefeated, the Bulls, they're not my bulls,
but yes, Sixers are the other team, the Bowlers, Sixers,
thunder Spurs.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
VJ Edge comes to in a great and then Bed
plays like twenty minutes right, He's like very thick.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Shad's Winby's gonna win MVP to keep this up.
Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
Twenty seven and eighteen.
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
Do that a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
Also, World Series Game number six tonight, eight pm start
the Los Angeles Dodgers taken on the Toronto Blue Jays.
The blue Jays one win away. It's gonna be a
Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers going against Gosmin
for the Blue Jays. And I guess it's for if
you're Los Angeles. It's all hands on deck tonight, right.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Yeah, I think that's three to two means when you're down,
there's no Game seven unless you win tonight. Games will
keep Betts lock in Brother would be a Saturday there.
So yeah, back in Toronto here for Game six. That
should be quite the scene, Quite the atmosphere north of
the border tonight as the Blue Jays go for the
world's to as.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
A lifelong Dodgers in the last week, Mookie bets im
heartbroken over the way you've played. Get it together, Brother.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
More high school sections later on tonight. Some of these
matchups Zionsville at Westfield, Harrison at Carmel, Hamilton, Southeastern at Homestead,
Fishers at Noblesville, Ben Davis at Avon. We talked about
Laurence Central at Laurence North with Greg Rakestraw minute ago,
Brownsburg at Pike as they try to keep their undefeated
season going, Cascade at Tri Weston Cathedral at Anderson tonight, Kevin,
(01:07:09):
there you go, just for you.
Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Yeah, I don't know much about Anderson High School football,
but I've spent many times on that campus. Smith Hall
shout out there for colts training camp. I'm gonna guess
that's not going to be a very close one, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
College football tomorrow, Indiana plays at Maryland. That one starts
at three point thirty. Per Due at Michigan. That is
a seven PM game and Notre Dame as a three
thirty time slot against Boston College. All three of those
games with our in state teams on the road. Anything
else you want to throw out there, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Bowen, I feel like that's pretty much everything. We're facing
something correct on Sunday, right, So fall back with the
old clock situation there coming up on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
I do on a more serious no, give us out
out some Matt Gonzalvez, who's dad, William died earlier this week.
He was back at practice yesterday after missing practice on Wednesday.
I would assume he's practicing because he intends to pla
al in Pittsburgh. We'll get some confirmation probably later today
from Shane Steichen, but regardless of if he plays or doesn't,
we had a moment I think a few of us.
(01:08:08):
Kevin went over and kind of sent arcandolesys to him yesterday.
So for the Colts fan base, make sure you're giving
it some extra love to number seventy one this weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
Sounds good. Thank you for pointing that out. Coming up
at a moment, we turned our attention to college basketball
because it's that Timmy year two the Butler Bulldogs talking
about the head coach Dad Mada in a moment here
at ninety three, five and seven. That one still works today,
doesn't it, James get you going on your chair over there, Yes,
Sir Ray Parker Junior, Ghostbusters, great film, great song. Now
(01:08:40):
we have a great coach, Dad Mada joining us on
the line this morning and his weekly appearances. Brought to
you by Thompson Furniture and Mattress in Columbus, in business
since the year before Heinko Fieldhouse open nineteen twenty seven,
Lazy Boy, Indiana made Smith Brothers Furniture, Stearns and Foster
and Tip Repedic Mastresses free to deliver right to the
(01:09:00):
entire Indianapolis metro area. It's worth to drive to Columbus though.
Thompson Furniture dot Net. Coach Mata, Welcome on a Friday morning, Halloween.
I'm gonna I'm gonna guess, are you and your team
in the Halloween spirit or is it just time to
play basketball?
Speaker 6 (01:09:15):
Oh?
Speaker 13 (01:09:16):
No, We're in the Halloween spirit. And and I think
that's something that's very very important for our team, uh
to have, you know, the mindset of celebrating all holidays,
national holidays. And I really don't care if they dress
up or not, but they need to be thinking about Halloween.
And you know, one of the biggest things for our guys,
and we try to teach them, is you got to
(01:09:37):
find the house where you get the biggest candy bars.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
Where that is sage advice coach.
Speaker 12 (01:09:45):
Yeah, yeah, and we we talk about it. We show
film on it. Okay, this is a house, you know,
pictures of that.
Speaker 13 (01:09:52):
We're assuming that you would probably get the biggest candy
bar here, like the full one, not not the giant size,
but not to as many ones. And I think that's
important for the guys. That way, they may not have
to go to as many houses while they're trigger treating
if they can get the big ones.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Now, that is a coach I want to play for,
right there, King size or bust, Right, that's what I
want to I want to play for that coach. He's
got every detail comer all the.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
Time, right, That's why he's one of the one of
his coaches in college basketball history. Fat Mota with us
here on the Payloffs Liquors Hotline. Coach, let's go back
to Wednesday night. I do want to ask about the
format of the game because I thought that was a
bit unique. But uh, scoring points not an issue for
you guys at all. What do you like from Wednesday?
Speaker 12 (01:10:31):
Well, I think that you know, first the format. You know,
every kid aspires are playing the NBA.
Speaker 13 (01:10:37):
So I got with the Indiana State coach and said, hey,
why don't we give these guys a dose of what
they're eventually going to be playing in four quarters twelve
minute quarters. But no, for us, it was these games.
You know, they are quote unquote exhibition games, and you know,
we we thought if we can get our guys more
minutes and more opportunity to play, and it would be
(01:11:00):
advantageous for both sides.
Speaker 12 (01:11:02):
And we were able to do that.
Speaker 13 (01:11:04):
We were able to get you know, some guys twenty
seven and twenty eight minutes and our freshmen or new
guys still got a lot a few more minutes than
they had if we played a forty minute game, So
that that worked out well for it was a long game,
it seemed like.
Speaker 12 (01:11:16):
But and I thought we were better.
Speaker 13 (01:11:20):
You know, we were very specific in terms of what
we wanted our guys to do, both offensively and defensively,
and we did a better job than we had in
the previous exhibition game.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
Do you think obviously we see it in the women's
game with four ten minute quarters, and I know some
fans are like the kind of resetting of the fouls.
Do you think that's something that you would ever see
in the men's game or something you would want to
see in the men's game going to the four quarters
and maybe not twelve minutes, but maybe ten minutes.
Speaker 12 (01:11:48):
You know, I don't know, because, like you said, the
women do it.
Speaker 13 (01:11:54):
You know, everybody does it, all levels, FIBA does it,
you know, in the euroleagues thought except US college basketball.
So I don't know if if they'll if they'll make
the change. You know. It's like I'd love to see
the shot clock in Indiana high school basketball, and I
don't know if it'll ever go to that, but uh,
(01:12:15):
I don't know it'll be It'll be interesting to see
how it shakes out, because you know, it does give
you a little bit more excitement just in terms of
you got an end of the end of two quarters
that you don't have and you you know, put the
clock running down, that sort of thing, which is always
exciting in college basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
Dad Mata here trying to start a new I guess
battle when it comes to the shock clock conversation. Here
in Indian high school basketball, I have had these same
thoughts coach, and they have not always gone over well
with the purists who tell me go back to single
class basketball and shut up so we'll see.
Speaker 13 (01:12:48):
Hey, yeah, well, let's let's scratch everything. I didn't want
to start a battle.
Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
I'm just joking with you, Candy battle, not a shot
clock battle.
Speaker 3 (01:12:57):
Started a battle all I need.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
I will say this though, going back to Wednesday, what'd
you like and really throughout sort of like your preseason slate,
if you will, the shot quality you're getting, and particularly
when it comes to the three point shot, because we
know in today's game you need that to compete with
the best of the best. And obviously you sided pretty
well Wednesday against the Sycamores.
Speaker 13 (01:13:19):
Yeah, you know, I thought our shots selection was better.
We had you know, fewer ill advised still gold attempts,
and I think that's something we're going to really, you know,
continue to hone in on. And a lot of that
is is making sure guys know their roles of what
we need them to do and when we need them
to do it. But I know the three point shot
(01:13:41):
has sort of overtaken. You know, a lot of the
levels of basketball now, and we spend a lot of time,
you know, working on our three point shots and with
our guys and you know, trying to elevate that.
Speaker 12 (01:13:53):
And I think that's a.
Speaker 13 (01:13:55):
Lot of times it can be a great equalizer in
college basketball because I think in the Interstate hit eleven
and every time they hit one, it was like, oh
my gosh, the world is going to end. And but
but for us, you know, as long as we're taking
good ones and and you know, Finley showed his range
has increased on a couple of the meme made. But
(01:14:16):
uh no, we want that in our in our arsenal,
that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
Thatt Mallshad, basketball coach of the Butler Basketball Bulldogs, And
I'm looking forward to to watching this team kind of
come together of the course of the year. When we
started and we had our first conversation with you a
few weeks ago, you had so many brand new players
that have played together for the first time, that you're
putting on the court together for the first time three
four weeks later. Now, how are you feeling about how
(01:14:40):
they're they're coming together.
Speaker 12 (01:14:42):
I think we're making progress. I really do.
Speaker 13 (01:14:44):
I think guys are starting to understand what they need
to do to be on the floor, and you know,
it's it's I supposed the game where everybody has a
job to do, you just don't go out there and play.
Speaker 12 (01:14:58):
And I thought our younger.
Speaker 13 (01:14:59):
Guys did a really nice job of that the other night,
of saying, hey, I got to go rebound, I've got
to defend my tail off, and it was it was
good to see. And that's something that I think, you know,
every team at this stage right now October thirty first,
where everybody's still trying to find their role and their
identity of who they are. But I do like, you know,
(01:15:22):
since we've started talking, just the stride we've made in
that regard.
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
Coach last one for me and again that model with
this year on the Payloff Stickers hotline you added. And
we've seen this obviously around college basketball with various staffs
of a GM and the off season, I think defining
exactly what that GM does for a program, though, is
a little bit different at each school. How have you
viewed the GM position in terms of whether it's roster acquisition,
(01:15:50):
roster construction. How do you view that role within your staff.
Speaker 13 (01:15:54):
Well, it's very it's vitally important for us to be
honest with you because it takes me out of of
I don't want to say awkward situations, but but situations
that I don't think head coaches need to be and
very similar to the NFL or NBA or National Hockey
League or whatever, because you're dealing a lot more now
with agents and and kids have gids as agents, and
(01:16:17):
there's really good agents out there, and there's really bad
agents out there. But you know, R G and Joony
Blair is able to connect with those guys and get
a feel for what they're thinking and and and that's
that that helps a lot. I mean, they're they're constantly
in contact with those people, and it's just something that
(01:16:38):
our staff.
Speaker 12 (01:16:39):
Doesn't have to do.
Speaker 13 (01:16:39):
I don't want our guys having to negotiate and do
those types of things.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
So dollars and cents is on the GMS played and
you guys are there to coach more or less.
Speaker 12 (01:16:50):
More or less, yes, absolutely, I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
Coach, thanks so much for joining us. We look forward
to talking to you every week, usually on Thursdays, but
it might change depending on your schedule on how things
go Wednesday against Southern Utah, first game, and he go,
good luck, my.
Speaker 12 (01:17:03):
Friend, Southern Indiana will take the luck.
Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
All right, sounds good. There is Dad Mada coaching his
kids up on every aspect you can imagine, including how
to find the best candy bar and the full sized
candy bar.
Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
So they play Southern Indiana, right right.
Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
Okay, okay, Southern India.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
What do I say, Southern Utah.
Speaker 1 (01:17:24):
I believe I'd be quite the trip for Southern Utah.
Here the screaming, I don't know where I'm not mistaken.
The Southern Indiana, I believe Dan Guard So the head
coach there, Yeah, King size stad Mada doesn't mess around
when it comes to Halloween candy.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Check those ring cameras.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
He is, uh, he was adamant about that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Yeah, that is a level of wealth. I hope to
attain someday.
Speaker 3 (01:17:45):
Where you can just give out the big candy bars.
Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
Yeah, because I mean the boning household might be getting
those a bag of.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
Just like fifty pieces of candy. Unlike that clearance rack
is still pretty high.
Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
I know some house as you go, they go to
the dollar store and just get those big bags of candies.
Speaker 7 (01:18:01):
Dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
Man my perspective of all this has changed since I
started paying for things myself. That's how funny how that works.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
Our conversation with that Mada brought to you every week
by Thompson Furniture and Mattress and Columbus in business since
the year before hinkle Field House open nineteen twenty seven.
They've got Lazy Boy Indiana, mad Smith Brothers Furniture, Stearns
and Foster, and temper Pedic Mattresses free delivery to the
entire Indianapolis metro area. It's definitely worth the drive though
to Columbus if you want to go get some great furniture.
Thompson Furniture dot Net coming up at a moment Colt's
(01:18:28):
getting ready to take on the Steelers. We'll tell you
about it next. A ninety three five and one A
seven five to the Fan.
Speaker 10 (01:18:45):
You were listening to a fan morning show on sports
Radio ninety three to five and one oh seven five.
Speaker 7 (01:18:51):
The fan.
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
Heard you kind of chuck Alen of that one. You
like that one, don't you? James boy?
Speaker 7 (01:18:58):
I do?
Speaker 14 (01:18:59):
I do?
Speaker 9 (01:19:00):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
Movie?
Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
What's the scariest movie you ever saw? Mark my birthing video?
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
That got weird in a hurry.
Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
Good lord, I show us the birthing video in high school. Yeah,
I was pretty scar from that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
In your class. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:19:18):
I feel like the the one that's stuck with me
the most is like the Blair Witch Project. No, probably
like either The Conjuring or It Follows, which is about
a how about the Shining ear Muffs for the kids,
it's about a if you sleep with someone, you pass
along like a demon and you basically it just follows
(01:19:39):
you and follows you and no one else can see
it until it kills you, so you have to pass
along the demon to everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
It's kind of like a it's very fascinating, creepy. I'll
be checking out.
Speaker 5 (01:19:49):
It's creepy because it's just like you just look around
and there's like this old lady just walking towards you,
and no one else can see it, but it's just
like this creepy thing coming after you. That one kind
of stuck with me because I'm like, what if that
was like true with like someone was just following you
and you couldn't no one else could see it, but
you could be.
Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
That's what that hit me out.
Speaker 1 (01:20:03):
That hr dude from that company should say about why
he was at the concert with that woman. Yeah, it
follows with that, yeah, and then he had to get
the demon out of them, right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
Paranormal activity.
Speaker 5 (01:20:13):
That first one creeped me out too, because just like
this weird stuff, I don't want haunted houses. I don't
want ghosts following me around.
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
No thanks, So for me, the scariest movie I ever saw,
and it's been a while was the original Alien with
Sigourdy Weaver, right, but recently A Quiet Place with John
Krasinski and Emily Blunt. That was a freaky movie that
was pretty scary.
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
That's a good one. I like that one.
Speaker 3 (01:20:39):
Will you will you be watching any scary movies this
weekend or it's just standard fair?
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Uh, we watched a couple already and everything.
Speaker 5 (01:20:46):
But I also you know, with three young kids, you
don't want to freak them out and you don't want
to give them too much nightmares. Because while you're like, yeah,
I watched that when I was a kid, I'm also like,
I don't want you guys sleeping next.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
To me for the next week and a half. True,
That's kind of how that goes.
Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
This Fan Morning show along with James Boyd Kevin Bowen
the mister or Kevin Bacon Bowen today. By the way,
James is saying he misses the Bowen burger from the
cluster truck with the crunchy biscun thing bacon bits.
Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
I think we could be having some cluster truck back
and on the horizon here soon. Little tease there, but yeah,
hopefully come the month of May and a little bit
around some racing, hopefully a third year of the uh
Kevin Bowen Berger And as James Woyd points out, it
is Crispy Bacon on that burger. Yeah, I'll mess around
with the limp. Yes, I don't want to be going
(01:21:29):
soft over here. If it's limp, I send it back.
Amen too.
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
That the text line has kind of been getting on you,
calling you Limp Bacon today.
Speaker 5 (01:21:36):
That Keaven's is gonna fight somebody. Excuse I haven't seen
these texts there. I'd like a word with these people.
We got a Chrispy NFL slate. Should we give out
our entertaining hardest easiest games.
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
Let's do it right now? Sure, are you ready to
go with Mark Dygton run the show? Mark gets up
to you go get.
Speaker 5 (01:21:56):
All right, easiest I don't. I mean, maybe there's some
disagreement here, but I mean Chiefs Bills is that unanimous here?
Has anyone else the game?
Speaker 1 (01:22:04):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
No, I'm sorry, most exciting. Yeah, sorry, I don't even
think there's a second. There's not a close second, is there?
Speaker 1 (01:22:09):
This week six seven is getting to mark a little bit.
Speaker 9 (01:22:11):
I know.
Speaker 1 (01:22:12):
Oh yeah, Chiefs Bills. And this is a four o'clock window,
right so right after Colts and the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (01:22:17):
Yeah, I think it is.
Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
You know, both teams right now are in the wildcard picture,
which is kind of wild to say about both of them.
So yeah, I think this is a no brainer.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
Five and three Chiefs against the five and two Bills.
Both of them were getting knocked around because they started
off a little bit slow, but they seem to be
coming on now. And especially Kansas City. We talked about
with with Rashi Rice coming back, what if we took that.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
Off the table. Second most entertaining game.
Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
I can't say it might be like entertaining or not
or like like a great matchup. But I am sort
of intrigued by the Vikings and the Lions because of
the whole quarterback situation in Minnesota with JJ McCarthy back
being back, and obviously Carson wentz through god knows what
and he's out for the rest of the season. So
(01:23:03):
is JJ good? Is he healthy? I know Kevin o'connings
a lot of praise be in the quarterback whisper. You
better make sure this young man looks like something A
have to hold him out this long.
Speaker 1 (01:23:11):
Yeah, they're on a ton of exciting games. I'd look
at that one, but that could get ugly in a hurry.
Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
I would say exciting, but I think it's gonna be
kind of a boring defensive game the Broncos and Texans.
Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
Yeah, I could get behind a little bit of that
made some AFC South bias with that one. My hardest game, Mark,
I gotta go to your Bears h plus two and
a half point underdog against the Bengals. I don't in
Cincinnati's quarterback situation, I don't think I trust, But Mark,
I was so disappointing your Bears last weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:23:39):
Me too, So I don't know where I would go
on that. Yeah, it's weird because Joe Flacco's questionable like
that is legit, like he might not play at all.
Mean that with Jake Browning and it's got to be
the Bears, right, you would think. But the Bears also
all four of their starting wide receivers were on the
injury list as of all Tuesday, and it was insane.
Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
I'm like, got dB injuries. I don't like dB injuries
against Jamar Chase and t Higgin, their top three members
of the secondary.
Speaker 5 (01:24:01):
We're not playing the top four widers. Hopefully they get right,
But yeah, I don't argue with that. That's a very
hard one. Mine is actually Cowboys and Cardinals on Monday Night.
Cowboys are two and a half point favorites. I don't
trust either of these teams on a weekend and week
out basis that the Cowboys are the more talented team
on paper. But you're telling me to show up on
a primetime game that the Cowboys are going to step
(01:24:23):
it up against the Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
Kyler Murray supposed to be back and all that. I
don't know. I'd avoid that one.
Speaker 3 (01:24:29):
Just avoiding that one altogether. There are a couple of
games I would want to avoid, but I'd say that
was one of them. How'd you like to be Espnough,
that's your Monday night football matchup right now?
Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
I mean you're stuck with it, so you got to
deal with it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
I guess it's the Cowboys for them. They'll have some
people watching that. All right, Where are we going next?
Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
Easiest?
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
There are some big spreads this week. Have you noticed
We've got a couple of games that are double digit spreads.
Speaker 5 (01:24:53):
I feel like that's been the trend the last couple
of weeks. Now where we're like, these are like college
level spreads at some cases.
Speaker 1 (01:24:59):
Rams two touchdown favorite over Tyler Shuck and the Saints
first start for him. Packers Panthers is a huge spread.
I'm gonna take one of them. I'm gonna take the
Tennessee Titans to cover. I know that sounds ridiculous. Nine
and a half at home against the Chargers. Long trip
for the Chargers. I think the Titans can keep it
(01:25:20):
within nine points. Camboard, please backdoor it if you have to.
That's my easiest game of the week.
Speaker 6 (01:25:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:25:27):
I was looking at the other one too, the Carolina
Panthers and the Green Bay Packers. Panthers are four and four.
Packers are obviously looking like one of the best teams
in the NFC right now, but I think the Panthers
are sneaky better than people are giving them credit for.
It's they're not. They're not gonna win this football game,
but I do think they'll cover.
Speaker 1 (01:25:43):
Who's their quarterback that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
Remains to be seen. But Bryce Young has been taking
snaps this week.
Speaker 1 (01:25:49):
Dalton the thumb injury is that, Yeah, he's.
Speaker 3 (01:25:51):
He's I don't think he's gonna be able to play.
Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
So I will say, when I'm looking at this Rams
Saints game, fourteen and a half is a whole lot
of points for spread. I'm in the same stink there
starting the rooky quarterback. But I think with the way
the Rams kind of played this year, sort of up
and down. Yeah, and you're still a good record overall,
I feel like they'll win comfortably, but perhaps about maybe
ten or thirteen. Fourteen and a halfs a lot.
Speaker 5 (01:26:14):
I must say. The easiest one is the Colts and Steelers.
Colts are three and a half point favorites. I don't
think it's I don't think it's really agreed.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
That's a fair one.
Speaker 3 (01:26:22):
Yeah, you know, it's funny other than the Chiefs and Bills,
And maybe it's just this time of year. I had
a lot of really attractive games, not a lot of
sexing this year for these games this week.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
There's a lot of mediocrity going on in the NFL
right now.
Speaker 1 (01:26:34):
Mark, It's kind of crazy. The Colts have been the
pick now several times this season with the easiest spread
to pick in a positive direction for the Colts.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
Nice change of pace. I'll take it.
Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
I'll take that too. Coming up at a moment, we
will talk to Matt Taylor, dig in deep on the
Colts and get some of Taylor's tidbits and some things
about this team that you did not know. I guarantee
it's coming your way next at ninety three to five
and one oh seven five the fans.
Speaker 10 (01:26:58):
At least, he's a fan morning show with KB JB
and Jeff the Shane Steichen favorite Halloween costume growing up
as a kid man, that's a good one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:09):
Let me think about this for a second.
Speaker 15 (01:27:13):
Like the twelve year old, Yeah, twelve year old, I'm
going back to that right now. You know one time
I think I was, uh, you're probably like Joe Montana
or somebody, right, I was a fanatic. It was I
was called the fanatic and I was like a big
sports fan, and I think I had all these like
I remember, right, you know, I grew up in Suckerman. Now,
so I think I had a King's jersey on. I
might have had like some forty nine er football pants on,
(01:27:37):
and then I can't remember. I was just I had
a whole bunch of different things rolling, you know, going
through the neighborhood trigger tree.
Speaker 6 (01:27:43):
All right, very good, very good?
Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
All right, favorite Halloween candy for Shane Stiking.
Speaker 1 (01:27:48):
It's then end.
Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
Now, I guess you know, I think.
Speaker 15 (01:27:51):
I'm a big I like sour Patch kids for solid.
Speaker 10 (01:27:55):
Sweet, you know, and sour at the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
Indeed, I'm pretty good my kids like him too, so
it works out good.
Speaker 9 (01:28:03):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
We've been hearing from some coaches all day long about Halloween.
Uh even Rick Carlisle indulged your question, acknowledged it, talked
about it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:12):
Indulged probably not the word I would use. Acknowledged. Yes,
that's a fair statement.
Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
Heard from Thad Mada who instructs his team to scout
out the houses, make sure you go get the biggest,
best candy. James, you were all into that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
I love how mellowed out his voice was because it
sounded like he was being serious. But then you're hearing
his words and you're like, oh, you're very unseerious right now.
So that was a nice little trick. I don't know
if he meant to do that, but that was fun.
Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
And then we heard Kurt Signetti the back in the
day Batman and Superman. How about that class acton? I
could see that. I could see him being like the serious,
soft spoken Batman say, you know, I think my.
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
Favorite Halloween costume had to be like Allen iverson jersey
back in the day. I like it Allen Iverson jersey
sleeve head bam. I wouldn't go for the tattoos, but
practice shout out to my goat, Allen Arbison.
Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Let's talk to one of our favorites every Friday morning,
nine o'clock. It is Matt Taylor, the play by play
voice of your Indianapolis Colts. You're seven and one Indianapolis Colts.
How scary are the costumes at the Colts Complex today? Matt?
Speaker 4 (01:29:17):
I haven't seen one just yet. I don't know if
I'm doing something wrong or maybe going in the wrong
door or something, but I think we've got the Halloween costume.
I think we have that party coming up later on today,
so we'll see you know, people kind of kicking into gear,
go in the locker room and rewardrobe if you will.
But I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 6 (01:29:35):
But so far, so good.
Speaker 4 (01:29:37):
I mean it's kind of a normal Friday business as usual,
getting ready to take on the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (01:29:41):
So far, I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
Are you going to like going there dressed up as
like rivent Urry for Halloween? I thought that would just
involve you like carrying around a notebook and you know
rant and raven about defense.
Speaker 6 (01:29:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:29:55):
I need about eighteen different colors of highlighters, you know,
straggly like like being high like uh, you know some
some Definitely the notebook there just a generic polo that
is like it's like brandless, Like we're not wearing Colts gear,
We're not wearing NFL gear. We're just wearing We're wearing
brandless clothing. Like Rick Vancerry likes to do him like
(01:30:15):
where do you shop? He's like, I don't know, Miss
Sherry picks it out for me. I need that deal
for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:30:21):
Matt Taylor, Voice of Colts and with us here Colts
and Steelers coming up on Sunday afternoon. Matt, the last
couple of weeks you provided us with your excellence in
terms of a maybe a Don Fisher impression, maybe a
John Michael Vincent impression. We had a listener reach out.
I want to say it was after your segment last Friday.
Curious if you have mastered a Greg Rekestraw impression.
Speaker 4 (01:30:46):
No, I'm just gonna cut you off right there. I
don't want to embarrass myself.
Speaker 6 (01:30:49):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:30:49):
I don't have one yet for Greg.
Speaker 9 (01:30:51):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:30:52):
I mean I can talk. I can talk very loudly
because Greg does. He Greg Greg projects and he enunciates
better than than anybody in the business. But no, I
don't want to disappoint everybody by doing one that's not
very good, So I'm not going to.
Speaker 6 (01:31:06):
Do one at all.
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
Clearly, your self criticism here is very admirable. It sounds
like you have potentially practiced, though or attempted one in
the mirror. No is that true?
Speaker 6 (01:31:19):
Sadly No, sadly all right.
Speaker 1 (01:31:22):
Where does I don't know? It's not called Hinzfield anymore.
And it sounds like the atmosphere could be interesting coming
up on Sunday based off how recent games have gone there.
But where does this one rank road atmospheres?
Speaker 12 (01:31:32):
For you?
Speaker 1 (01:31:32):
And I get last time? Colts were there was COVID.
Speaker 6 (01:31:36):
Yeah, the last time I.
Speaker 4 (01:31:37):
Was there was twenty nineteen, which feels like just you know,
eons ago, but it's definitely up there.
Speaker 6 (01:31:43):
I mean, I I've been there.
Speaker 4 (01:31:45):
When Ben Roethlisberger throws for like four hundred yards in
the place is just I mean, standing on its head
going crazy. This is top five all environments and professional sport,
I think. I mean, I don't have this nugget in
front of me. I apologize, but I think they have
like like a seven eighty five home winning percentage as
(01:32:07):
a franchise since they call it now Akershore Stadium former
le Hinz Field, since it opened in two thousand and one,
and I think they have like the fourth most wins
in the NFL at home since it opened, you know,
about twenty five years ago. So yeah, this is this
is why I said earlier in the week that even
(01:32:27):
though objectively I think the Colts are the better team,
I think in all three phases in this game that
if you can get this win in that environment plus
is another AFC win, it's a road win, plus you
do it there when they're just desperate for a win, right,
they're kind of just clinging on to this lead. In
(01:32:48):
the AFC North, they're four and three, they've lost two games.
Urgency is going to be high, you know, the the
Native Jensers are going to be just dying for a win.
I think if you get this one, it might be
maybe a little bit more impressive.
Speaker 6 (01:33:02):
Believe it or not than two weeks ago that.
Speaker 4 (01:33:03):
Went on the road against the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (01:33:05):
Can you do a Bob level?
Speaker 4 (01:33:08):
I can't do a Bob level? Yeah I can.
Speaker 12 (01:33:10):
Yes, Would you like.
Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
To cook one up here at nine to ohh?
Speaker 2 (01:33:15):
He said yes?
Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
And stop, I know he did, and Matt full transparency,
I'm here wearing a bacon costume on this Friday morning.
Speaker 6 (01:33:21):
If you need any how many consecutive years have you
been to bacon?
Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
Yeah, I just showed up. I just looked at my
time hop and I've got a picture from ten years ago.
So I iron it October thirtieth every year.
Speaker 2 (01:33:31):
Oh so you iron the bacon.
Speaker 1 (01:33:32):
Yeah, iron the bacon. Make sure it's crispy, and make
sure it ain't limp, and it's ready to go. So
it's uh, it's pristine. The you know, every brunch place
around town should want my bacon.
Speaker 4 (01:33:42):
I just figured you like put in your locker at work,
like I was, like going to Catholic high school. I
just threw my my my school collared shirt in the
locker and just showed up to school in a T
shirt and put that on and then rotated it out
like every like ten.
Speaker 6 (01:33:56):
Or fifteen days or so.
Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
But that's the most strong college thing heard of my life.
Speaker 6 (01:34:01):
This is Bible level.
Speaker 4 (01:34:02):
Coming up later on tonight, we're gonna have a conversation
with the commissioner of the IHSA.
Speaker 6 (01:34:08):
All Nighty big Win.
Speaker 4 (01:34:10):
Coming up later to sectional finals of high school football.
Joining me now from w ZBD down in Jasper, Walt Ferber,
Walt big Win tonight for the Wildcats.
Speaker 6 (01:34:22):
Tell me who played well tonight?
Speaker 1 (01:34:28):
Did you guys? Did you know good? That might be
your best?
Speaker 6 (01:34:31):
Do you guys?
Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
Hear Pop lovel on the National Show Clinton Friends yesterday?
Speaker 1 (01:34:35):
Really yeah, no talking talking high school fooball you just
talking Indiana football and who's stuff?
Speaker 3 (01:34:42):
Matt Man.
Speaker 1 (01:34:43):
I love that, Matt Taylor, your best friends, don't at me.
Speaker 6 (01:34:46):
I'm big time. I'm on the National shows, brother, That's
what I do.
Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
I love, Bob.
Speaker 1 (01:34:51):
Something about your senior class usually you got to throw
that in there.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
As well.
Speaker 9 (01:34:55):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:34:55):
I mean that's what football is all about, coach. I mean,
you get a big win four order stop. Seniors play well.
Upperclassmen do what they do?
Speaker 6 (01:35:03):
Do they not?
Speaker 14 (01:35:06):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
Mark Dyke didn't get us to some tailor's tidbits Matt Taylor.
More great work for Matt Taylor.
Speaker 14 (01:35:11):
Let's dive into the nitty gritty that Grab a seat
and take notes their storylines all over the upcoming game.
Clark say, it's time for Taylor's tidbits.
Speaker 4 (01:35:28):
All right, guys, it is the Halloween edition of Taylor's Tidbit.
So I've got three tidbits today, and I have associated
them with legendary horror movie Dyllain.
Speaker 6 (01:35:41):
All right, Yeah, So if you don't.
Speaker 4 (01:35:44):
Like this, I spent an embarrassingly high amount of time
on this. So if you don't like this, just pretend
that you do, because I've put a lot of effort.
Speaker 1 (01:35:55):
I like it already, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:35:58):
The first tid that I have have is on Daniel Jones.
Daniel Jones is Sammy Terry. Do you guys know who
Sammy Terry is? No, Kevin, do you know who Sammy
Terry is?
Speaker 14 (01:36:11):
No?
Speaker 6 (01:36:12):
James?
Speaker 2 (01:36:13):
Come on, I help us out I'm sorry, Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (01:36:17):
Okay, all right, there's there's a lot of who's don't
go a lot there's a lot of Indiana.
Speaker 4 (01:36:25):
Natives like screaming at the radio right now, guys.
Speaker 6 (01:36:28):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:36:28):
Sammy Terry was a ghoul, and he emerged from his
coffin every week, beginning in nineteen sixty two on a
TV show to introduce horror films on Channel four. All right, Terry,
he looks scary, but he never harmed anybody.
Speaker 6 (01:36:45):
He was just on TV.
Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
He was the presenter of the movie every week.
Speaker 6 (01:36:50):
All right. That's Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (01:36:53):
He is the presenter of this scary offense for the
Colts that's looking for their fourth straight game of at
least thirty points coming up on Sunday. The Cults are
dangerous boys, with Sammy Terry leading to charge. They've got
three guls with at least three hundred and eighty receiving yards.
They've got six cast catchers who are averaging over ten
(01:37:14):
yards per catch. They've got the league's top rusher or
the ghost Man at Jonathan Taylor. He's averaging over one
hundred and six rushing yards on the ground per game.
Daniel Jones, great stat here on Sunday with one hundred
plus passer rating against the Steelers, he would become the
first quarterback since nineteen fifty with a one hundred plus
(01:37:37):
passer rating in eight of his first nine starts to
begin a season, and also with a pair of touchdown
on Sunday against the Steelers, he will have thrown at
least two passing scores in five straight games. That would
continue the longest streak of his career. They would also
be the longest streak of any quarterback in the NFL
(01:37:57):
so far this year. And there's a pretty decent chance
of those things happening because the Steelers they ranked.
Speaker 6 (01:38:03):
Deed last in passing defense.
Speaker 4 (01:38:05):
They've allowed at least three hundred and forty passing yards
in each of the last two games. Last week, Jordan
Love averaged twelve yards per completion.
Speaker 6 (01:38:14):
He threw three.
Speaker 4 (01:38:15):
Touchdowns, no picks, and JJ Watt and Cameron Hayward were
nowhere to be found, no sacks, and Jordan Love had
a passer rating of one thirty four.
Speaker 6 (01:38:26):
So there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:38:27):
Daniel Jones is Sammy Terry. There's your homework assignment for
you guys. Figure out who Sammy Terry is. He's a
who's your legend?
Speaker 7 (01:38:34):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
These guys on Wikipedia page.
Speaker 1 (01:38:36):
I just google him. This dude's frightening, man. I might
have to ask Alo Jones about him next Wednesday. See
if for you know, there's any similarities here.
Speaker 4 (01:38:43):
I'm telling you that's the leading question in his press conference. Hey,
Daniel Jones, you know who Sammy Terry is?
Speaker 6 (01:38:48):
Here we go, all right, the next tidbit. We've got
this Steelers, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:38:53):
The Steelers as a franchise, as relates to the Colts,
they are Jason Vorhee you guys knowing putting down right, Yes, Jeff,
I got you here, all right, from Friday the thirteenth,
all right, The Steelers they're like Jason because he's got
the match. He's got the sword and the big knife.
That's how the Colts feel when they play the Pittsburgh
(01:39:14):
Steelers on the road. The Colts are just one in
twelve against the Steelers in Pittsburgh since they moved to
town back in nineteen eighty four. But it's a new dawn,
all right. This is the fourth year in a row
these two teams have met in the regular season. The
Colts have won each of the last two meetings. At
Lucas Oil Stadium. But despite all of that, Pittsburgh is
(01:39:35):
still twenty six and eight all time against the Indianapolis Colts.
So when you do the mass, that's a winning percentage
of seven sixty five. That is the best winning percentage
of any team against another team in NFL history.
Speaker 6 (01:39:53):
But again, none of it matters. On Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:39:55):
Objectively, the Colts are the better team, even though the
Steelers have a future Hall of Famer playing quarterback and
the forty one year old Aaron Rodgers. A win on
Sunday would give the Colts an eight to one record.
And here's another fun little fact for you guys. Since
nineteen ninety, there have been forty seventeens that have started
(01:40:16):
eight and one. All forty seven of them went on
to make the playoffs. So if the Colts get this one,
they'd be number forty eight and they'd have, based on
the mask, a one hundred percent chance of making the playoffs.
All right, My last tidbit is Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 6 (01:40:34):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:40:34):
Jonathan Taylor is Michael Myers from Halloween.
Speaker 1 (01:40:38):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
He's the murderer who doesn't spare anybody, and then he
returns to the scene of the crime and is gonna
take even more victims. That's Jonathan Taylor right now on
the football field. He just keeps on coming back for
more and racking up defensive victims. He's got twelve rushing
touchdowns already, and then on Sunday, he only needs more
(01:41:00):
rushing scores to pass the great edgren James for the
most rushing touchdowns in team.
Speaker 6 (01:41:07):
History with sixty five.
Speaker 4 (01:41:09):
Now some context here, Edgrin James accomplished sixty for career
rushing touchdowns in ninety six games with the Indianapolis Colts.
Taylor on Sunday could break it in only his seventy
sixth career rushing contest. So, I mean, you talk about
the MVP, you know, considerations, and he's the best player
(01:41:31):
in football.
Speaker 6 (01:41:32):
It's hard to argue.
Speaker 4 (01:41:33):
All of that. He's on pace for his second eighteen
hundred plus rushing yard season of his career. He's on
pace for twenty five rushing touchdowns. That would break his
own record of eighteen rushing scores that he set back
in twenty twenty one. And he would come up just
shy based on his pace right now of the all
time record of twenty eight rushing touchdowns held by the
(01:41:57):
great Ladanian Tomlinson in two thousand and six. So there
you go, boys, Daniel Jones is Sammy Terry the Steelers
Jason Bories, and Jonathan Taylor is Michael Myers from the
legendary Halloween We Go.
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
Your effort is tremendous, dude, humble, that's a king sized
candy bar effort from Matt Taylor on this Friday morning.
Speaker 3 (01:42:18):
Who's Matt Taylor.
Speaker 6 (01:42:21):
Matt Taylor is like the guy at the party where
he sees.
Speaker 4 (01:42:24):
The villain come in and he just ducks and runs
and takes cover.
Speaker 2 (01:42:28):
That's who I am, smart man.
Speaker 1 (01:42:30):
He's the bed sheet. He's cut two holes out. Oh
I'm a ghost.
Speaker 6 (01:42:33):
Yeah, he says.
Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
I'm not the fastest man. I just need to be
faster than you. That's piss yes.
Speaker 6 (01:42:38):
Right, I'm not headed towards the tool shit.
Speaker 4 (01:42:40):
I can tell you that I'm just gonna run out
in the wilder there and take cover.
Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
All right, budd, It's always great to talk to you.
We'll listen for you on Sunday. It's gonna be a
lot of fun. I can't wait to see the second
half of the season unfold, and we'll listen to it
and hear it right from your from your our radios
with your voice.
Speaker 1 (01:42:56):
How about that?
Speaker 6 (01:42:57):
All right guy? All right man, Happy Halloween guys, you too.
Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
Matt Taylor joining us here. You never know what you're
gonna get with Mat. It's always a treat.
Speaker 1 (01:43:04):
The Bob lovelation was just and spawning. Mark Dyke den
is someone that has produced with Bob Lovel.
Speaker 5 (01:43:13):
I couldn't tell difference literally, I mean his I wanted
him to say forbuff jesuit because I feel like that's
a brief jesuit. I feel like that's a that's that's
a Bob level statement.
Speaker 1 (01:43:25):
You got a good Bob level in there. I think
I could hear a little bit of that. That was
good Mark.
Speaker 2 (01:43:29):
Thank you, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:43:30):
I'm starting to sweat. The bacon is really making me so.
Speaker 3 (01:43:32):
So we're going from crispy to limp noo? Is that
what's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:43:36):
Tell you not used to a lot of liquid in
the armpit area at nine eighteen in the morning, But
that's what.
Speaker 2 (01:43:41):
I got right now.
Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
It's grease. It's grea great thing.
Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
Thank you, Mark, h Sammy Terry.
Speaker 5 (01:43:45):
By the way, like I grew up in the Chicago area,
that's like SVENGOOLI remember sveng Googley, same thing. I guess
there's like a local host that just introduced scary movies
in every market apparently.
Speaker 6 (01:43:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:43:54):
I think Alvirus started off as a local you know,
presenting nineties on Friday nights and ended up being on
you want to say network for most of the nineties eighties.
Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
And Mystery Science Theater three thousand two.
Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
That was good too. It'd be fun to just your
job is to like introduce and talk about scary movies
every Friday night.
Speaker 6 (01:44:11):
That work.
Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
We need to reboots Ciskel and Eberts, so somebody get
on that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
All right, Mark, while we're doing that, let's check it
down and tell everybody what they can look forward to.
Speaker 10 (01:44:19):
This the Morning Checkdown on ninety thweet five and one
oh seven five The Fan.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
All Right, Colts and Steelers Colts will trying to make
it scary for Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon one o'clock start
ten am. Pregame show here on ninety three five and
one oh seven five The Fan. James, What I was
listening to Matt talk about some of the numbers that
Jonathan Taylor has been putting up, and he revealed on
the k Adams Up and Adams Show earlier this week
that before the Chargers game, he had a conversation with
(01:44:46):
the Danian Tomlinson just about how once you're in that groove, man,
things are going well for you. And right now he's
he's finding holes, he's seeing holes, and he is off
to the races.
Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
Yeah, he's bawling out and shout out to the big
guys up front, which he continues to credit because they
are certainly opening up with some massive avenues I can
call them holes avenues from the run through. So it
is all a collective effort. When it comes to this
Colts offense.
Speaker 3 (01:45:10):
Well going pretty well right now. Eight hundred and fifty
yards rushing, averaging just under six yards of carry in
the NFL. Six yards of carry. That's insane in the
NFL this late in the season.
Speaker 1 (01:45:22):
Second half in particular. So again, Friday Andrew report, nothing
to to I think, I guess quantity wise, nothing too
crazy on either accounts. But for the Colts, we've yet
to see Grover Stewart practice this week. It is very
rare to see big growth miss a game. I do
think the detackled depth has been improved this season, but
I think replacing Grover is a different question. So that'll
(01:45:42):
be something to watch for here coming up on today.
Speaker 3 (01:45:47):
I'm just curious this weekend tomorrow and college football Indiana
at Maryland, Purdue at Michigan, Notre Dame at Boston College.
I'm thinking about a three game parlay where they all
cover Kevin am I crazy to do that, Michigan covering Perdue.
By the way, you're gonna take Michigan all the favorites
to cover there? Well, I thought you were on the
bary Otam train. Have you gotten off the train? They're
(01:46:10):
struggling right now and they're on the road taking on
a team that wants to improve its position. So that
spells trouble for me.
Speaker 1 (01:46:17):
Ah yeah, So a lot of big, big spreads here
for the local teams. Three touchdown underdog Perdue, three touchdown
favorite Indiana, four touchdown favorite Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (01:46:24):
I still kind of like it, and see what happens,
all right. Meanwhile, we got the NBA basketball tonight at
the Fieldhouse. You can spend your Halloween over with the
Pacers as they will be taking on the Atlanta Hawks
without Trey Young and this is the first game for
them this season in the NBA Cup, anything else that
you're really keyed.
Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
In on in this game tonight watching the Pacers the
starting lineup, will it remain the same? I think, as
Kevin alluded to so eloquently throughout the show and his
bacon costume, they need a point guard. They need someone
up there to fry the bacon. So I think that
Ben Shepherd, as much as you trust him and you
know about his game, perhaps he can go to the
(01:47:04):
bench and you throw in a guy like Ray J.
Dennis or Mac McClung or someone who is more suited
I think to play the point guard role.
Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
I've had four different starting lineups in four games, so
maye five very well, and I agree I think it
should be a fifth. So I think a PACER's good
have done tonight. I think they will get their first
one of the season again. Steph Curry in the building tomorrow,
Miles Turner in the building on Monday. Prepare accordingly, all right?
Speaker 3 (01:47:26):
Major League Baseball, The World Series continues Game six tonight
in Toronto. First pitch is at eight o'clock. It'll be
a Yoshinobu Yamamoto taking on Kevin Gosman, it's all or
nothing for the Dodgers now, and you got to think
if the Blue Jays wind tonight, Vlad Guerrero Junior is
probably going to be the World Series MVP. The way
he's played the last several games, he has been on fire.
(01:47:47):
So look forward to see how that one all shakes out.
High school sectionals coming up later on tonight. Many great games.
I O Harrison at Carmel, Hamilton, Southeastern at Homestead, A
lot of people paying attention to Zionsville at Westville. I
saw a couple of different things, but the majority of
the things I've looked up now, Kevin say that Westfield
is the home team against zions built tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:48:05):
Yeah. Zionsville at Westfield. Yeah, so a little bit of
the smaller schools heritage at Minerovia. Shout out to Mark
Chains There, Park, Twodor, Lutheran, Casca, Try West. I think
that's one of the best matchups of the night period.
Winner of that could be viewed as probably a favorite.
In the southern part, they're of three A Danville at Roan, Collie, Greenfield, Central, Penalton, Frankfurt, Lebanon.
So some of the lower classes there little Friday love
(01:48:29):
should be a nice night, nice Crispy Knight in the
air and Krispy Bacon right here in studio and.
Speaker 2 (01:48:35):
Start a greasing fire. How much you're sweating over there? Yeah,
Kevin Christy, So I can't use water on a grease fire.
Speaker 3 (01:48:41):
How that goes?
Speaker 8 (01:48:43):
All?
Speaker 7 (01:48:43):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:48:43):
That's what's coming up as far as sports is concerned
for us. Anything else you want to throw in, Kevin Bone,
I think.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
That pretty much covers it all there from a weekend
say party in college basketball wise, we'll get going next
week after the exhibition slates here, And did you mention
Thursday night football?
Speaker 3 (01:49:00):
Last night? Lamar Jackson returns from a hamstring injury, and
they're all over the Miami Dolphins twenty eight to six
the final score. There four touchdowns passing for Jackson, two
of them go to Mark Andrews. They are now three
and five and still the favorites to win the AFC North.
How about that?
Speaker 1 (01:49:17):
Yeah, I would imagine Miami will be getting a lot
of calls for those pass rushers here over the next
few days. So I'll be very interested to see how
Bradley job and Jalen Phillips, if they are indeed in
a Dolphins uniform come Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (01:49:28):
It'll also be interesting to see if Mike McDaniel still
has his job as the head coach for the Dolphins
by the end of the day, considering it's now ten
days before their next game and things have not gone well.
Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
Bring me Jalen Phillips on your way out. That's my
message to Mike midday if he does indeed get moved
on from But in all seriousns, I think the Colts
could really check in and look into some of those
pass rushers for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:49:50):
All Right, we'll get into both the Colts and the
Pacers and the NFL weekend a little bit more as
we continue next at ninety three five and one of
seven to five The Fan on a Halloween Friday. I
think that's all. We get more Halloween play than I
remember it getting.
Speaker 12 (01:50:05):
Mark.
Speaker 5 (01:50:05):
Yeah, there's the Ramones version. There's this one from the
remake of Pet Cemetery. I like this version a lot
too great great movie, creepy movie, good Halloween movie to
throw on tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:50:16):
H James, you kind of like scary movies, don't you.
I think you've seen a few since since I've known you.
Speaker 2 (01:50:20):
Right, Yeah, I'm not a big scary movie, guy, But
I feel like I'll watch anything anybody tells me is
pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:50:26):
You've seen this new thing the trailers for Bognia with
with Emma Stone coming Home.
Speaker 7 (01:50:31):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (01:50:31):
I haven't enlightened me. Please, that's just.
Speaker 3 (01:50:33):
Been I've seen it all over my TV the last
week or so. I don't. Apparently some guys kidnap a ceo,
this female CEO that Emma Stone planes, believing she is
an alien out to conquer mankind, and so it kind
of takes I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:50:47):
Guessing this to be a show.
Speaker 3 (01:50:48):
It's black comedy, I think, is what I thought. They
they said, I guess it's a show, movie show. I
haven't seen it's gone one of the seconds the movie.
It's a movie, Okay, Kevin Bowen. I know Halloween's going
to be fun at your house a little bit later
on tonight. But kind of scary for sports fans that
rely on YouTube this coming weekend because YouTube tv has
(01:51:11):
dropped Disney channels including ESPN and ABC and of course
a feed dispute. And I got to think, Mark that
this is a lot of leverage by the Disney folks
in ESPN to just make you go by there over
the top app Now, I don't know if that's what
they really want.
Speaker 5 (01:51:24):
It's BS though you already raised your prices enough and
they're like, well, we really try to think of the consumer.
Oh really, because you used to be three five by
now you're eighty something dollars and I guarantee when this
gets resolved, they're like, oh, well, actually we had to
increase our fees a little bit while also boasting record
profits annually.
Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
That's what the companies want, you know, whether it's the
streaming services, whether it's anything. You're just you're there to
give them eighty to one hundred bucks every month.
Speaker 5 (01:51:48):
Yeah, stop lying to me and saying you're doing it
for the consumer, because you absolutely or not locally, for
our YouTube TV audience out there. I don't think you'll
have too much of an issue this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:51:58):
If I'm wrong, guys, But well, I guess Notre Dame
in Boston College if you care about that. That's on ESPN.
But I use what CBS perdue I think is Big
ten network with Michigan Colt Steelers or CBS and the
Pacers of course are on fan duel and I get
obviously people have ESPN and ABC for games other than
just the local stuff. But outside of Notre Dame in
(01:52:21):
Boston College, I don't think anything else will be on
those airwaves right now.
Speaker 3 (01:52:26):
Remember we used to complain about cable prices, but you
could get everything all on your cable cable box, and
now you got to pay extra for every single thing
that comes along.
Speaker 5 (01:52:35):
Nickel and Diamond people is gonna get old quick. That's
why I said the Russian servers are going to get
a workout if the don't resolve their ESPN issue on
YouTube TV.
Speaker 3 (01:52:45):
Yeah, I have no issue with anybody that goes around
the rules to go and stream some kind of glad.
Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
Look at the Look at the traffic in Indianapolis. Lots
of people watching Bucks and pacers. Very good, glaad to me,
very good?
Speaker 1 (01:53:03):
Maybe why are they booing Myles Turner?
Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
You want to provide maybe a little bit of that.
What dude does Miles Thurner?
Speaker 5 (01:53:08):
Dude to the pacers that do do not like him?
Why don't you like him? For me another vodka? I
just like to be I head over in Points.
Speaker 3 (01:53:16):
I'd like to spend ten minutes inside Mark Dyton's head
when he's on the way to work at five forty five,
ad off.
Speaker 1 (01:53:21):
I want to be inside of Mark Dyton at all,
to be totally honest with you, but I.
Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
Was that took a turn.
Speaker 5 (01:53:26):
It's used to be everybody out there usually just a
monkey banging a symbol in my head.
Speaker 1 (01:53:30):
Usually by the way, it's being Halloween.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
John Candy would have been seventy five today. Oh he's
a Halloween Halloween baby legend, one of the greatest. What
was your favorite John Candy movie?
Speaker 1 (01:53:42):
Boy, that's a good question.
Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
Planes, trains and automobiles.
Speaker 3 (01:53:46):
Michaele Buck was pretty good too.
Speaker 5 (01:53:48):
I always wanted to eat one of those pancakes, the
giant pancakes. They just I think a Halloween baby would
be awful. I don't think i'd want to be born
on Halloween. I want my own day. Everybody just kind
of groups.
Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
It, yeah, but then you can add they really group
of life that people do that. I feel like that's
more common for Christmas now.
Speaker 5 (01:54:07):
Well, because I'm a December baby and people always like, oh,
that stinks because you.
Speaker 1 (01:54:10):
Know you're early December.
Speaker 5 (01:54:12):
Yeah, but people are always like, oh, well you're in December.
That means you don't get as much. I'm like, no,
It's like then I was never I was never smited
because I was born in the month that Christmas was in.
It was always just like it always made Christmas more
special because you got double the stuff. It was always
a good time. So if you're born on Halloween, you
can always especially when you're young, you can just convince them,
like all these people know it's your birthday. That's why
(01:54:32):
they're giving you all this candy.
Speaker 1 (01:54:34):
Reminder, we might have a game seven tomorrow night, and
if we do, that will obviously push you into the
wee hours of the night. We will fall back in
the wee hours of Sunday morning. So well, daylight savings
action here. So what is it one am, two am
something like that, we fall back an hour. So I'm
terrified for your young children. Yeah, I was gonna say,
(01:54:55):
I think we have to keep them up on Saturday
because we want them to sleep in. We don't want
them getting up like when their normal body clock is
because they'll be like six am. I'm not trying to
hear that on a Sunday morning, that these toast tapping
at six in the morning. I know, choice, brother, Daylight
tabings with the young kids is brutal.
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
I'll tell you what else is brutal too? Like tell
the full disclosure. My best friend is my dog. He
and I are wish you just can't separate us when
when I'm not at work and he wants to be
around me all the time. He's awesome and we have
a good time. But I'm telling you, every single year,
when this weekend comes, he is putting his paw on
my shoulder in bed when I'm asleep. He's he's just
(01:55:33):
looking over the top of the bed, putting his paw
on my shoulder, saying, yeah, it's five thirty, it's time
for me to eat. Let's go. Every I guarantee you
I get I'll be awakened at five thirty on Sunday morning.
I know I'm not alone on that.
Speaker 2 (01:55:46):
When you lock the door.
Speaker 3 (01:55:47):
Those that that it's crazy there their body clock mark
are on the money.
Speaker 5 (01:55:53):
Do the one that brought you home. There's some baking
strips in the kitchen. Give me some little shut eye. Yeah,
shout out to KBA here in the YouTube chat. Yeah,
cool Runnings is a great John Candy.
Speaker 4 (01:56:06):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (01:56:08):
Forgot about that one. That's fantastic. Standing Jeremy wants to
say that Kevin hopefully you're bacon doesn't start burning. Not
sure you want me putting that fire out here as
a fire chief over here.
Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
James Boyd, what scares you about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I
thought I was gonna tell me about like life or
something on the couch and say, oh man, I want
my mom to lift forever. And so I looking at
what's scared about the chief? I'm not chief? Sorry the Steelers.
I think it's a tight ends for sure, because I
do not think the Colts have a strong suit in
(01:56:39):
their linebacker coverage. I think that can certainly be exposed
with the quarterback, especially the caliber of Aaron Rodgers. And
then when you look at what they're able to do offensively,
they can put up some points. I think that the
way I look at this Colts offense, I will trust
their offense more. But if you get in a bit
of a shootout, you know you don't want to play
with too much fire there where you're asking Daniel Jones
(01:57:00):
to go out there and hey, by the way, score
a bunch of points and not turn the ball over.
And because the more you go out there and you
have to throw it, assuming you're in a kind of
a shootout, you have more of a risk, I think,
to make a mistake, So that to me kind of
scares me. But overall though, I still have a lot
of confidence in this Colts offense. Is just who gets
the ball last in a sense, if it does become
(01:57:21):
one of those games where it goes back and forth.
Speaker 1 (01:57:22):
Yeah, I mean the Colts have been out sand An
avoiding third and lungs, but just avoid TJ. Watt getting
a few rev up moments.
Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
Shout out to my boy Braden Smith too, who I
caught up with this week. I know he's been through
a lot after being diagnosed last year with religious scrupulosity,
which is a form of OCD.
Speaker 1 (01:57:39):
Great work saying that he's practicing this.
Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
Yeah, you know, shout out to the annunciation my mom
forced on me when I was a kid. But yeah,
it was good to hear from him in his perspective.
And I don't be get a chance to play much
of that audio here on the show this week, and
maybe we can, you know, save it because it's pretty evergreen.
But I did ask him. I didn't even use it
in the story, but I said said, hey, do you
realize the amount of people you've helped because you were
(01:58:04):
so open about this, and he said in a way, yes,
like I did it for me and my family. But
I am glad that the big, tough football player was
able to say, Hey, I'm going through some stuff. I
need to get my head and my heart aligned. And
so I'm glad that he was able to do that,
and who knows how many lives he could have saved.
And so it feels good to check in with him
and know that not only is he playing well because
(01:58:24):
he played well last year before he left for the
last five games of the year, but he's playing well
from a much better and healthier mental state. Also, by
the way, I did ask him because he told me,
and he said this previously, when he was going through
his hard times, he wasn't really as engaging or present
with his young son Wyatt. So I said, this year,
I said, you know, obviously a better place for you
from husband's standpoint, father's standpoint. What is little Wyatt going
(01:58:45):
to be for Halloween? And he said he loves monster trucks, excavators,
and tractors. So they dressing him up as a construction
worker today.
Speaker 6 (01:58:52):
Excellent.
Speaker 1 (01:58:53):
Did you ask him about his breakfast meal?
Speaker 2 (01:58:55):
I did not ask him about the breakfast, one of
the pretty serious conversations. All I don't know if I
want to go let with the.
Speaker 1 (01:59:00):
PU was beautiful work by you on that. I kind
of hung around. Bob Cravis and I hung around a
little bit after, and he said something that I've found
interesting about the offensive line. You know, you hear players
say this often, and Zia Franklin, for example, James, you
and I were talking to him a couple of weeks ago,
and Zaia's like, Oh, it's the closest we've been in
whatever X amount of years. And I'm like, okay, Like
(01:59:22):
why or where did you feel that all of a
sudden starting to happen. Well, Braiden mentioned that he felt
like the offensive line is the closest in his time here,
which is a bit surprising, and then when asked to
expand on that, Bob actually asked him to expand on that,
Braiden went into the well, sometimes you've got somebody with
an ego, sometimes you've got a bad apple, and they
(01:59:44):
can bring the whole group down. I found that interesting that,
Braiden Smith. Again, this gets back to our conversation an
hour ago. All we want is for athletes and frankly
probably humans to be honest, candor right, that's what you want,
you don't want Vanilla answers. Well, when I heard Braid
and Smith say that, I'm thinking, Okay, who's in the
Colts offensive line room that's no longer here? Will Fries,
(02:00:04):
Ryan Kelly?
Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
I can't re meager? Would be Ryan Kelly?
Speaker 12 (02:00:06):
Would it?
Speaker 3 (02:00:07):
That guy seems pretty stand up.
Speaker 1 (02:00:09):
That's what we don't know, you know, behind the scenes,
you know Brayden was I thought, brutally honest and speaking
of like you know, he just offered that up. Bob
asked a very simple question of oh, why do you
think you guys are so much closer? And he went
he didn't name names, but he went down the path
of again, sometimes you have guys in there that have egos,
and he described more of an eagle lists room and
he you literally used the phrase bad apple. So I
(02:00:31):
found that interesting as well, because there's no denying it.
And it looks like the Colts offensive line will once
again be intact on Sunday, eight of nine games together
this season for the old line. That is unprecedented around
the NFL so far, and it will, you know, probably
be a very emotional Sunday out guess for Magan's al
us with the passing of his dad, and back in
the stadium where he played collegiately as a Pittsburgh Panther.
Speaker 3 (02:00:53):
All right, coming on for a moment, our picks for
the weekend on the way right here at ninety three
five and one or seven five. Another great job by
Mark dykon getting this ready to go for Halloween. And
I know you'll be out with your your kids later
on tonight. Kevin's gonna be with his kids. James gonna
be avoiding everything and probably just go watch a game
at a at a restaurant or something.
Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
Right, the boy might be on them streets. I ain't
work on the keys though.
Speaker 3 (02:01:16):
You gonna show up at people's doors looking for trick
or treat.
Speaker 2 (02:01:20):
No, Like I said, I ain't worried about none to day.
It's gonna be a great night, though.
Speaker 1 (02:01:24):
Mark, relaying from Lara Overton. She wanted me to give
you a shout out for your TV theme re entries.
I've heard that from a different people the last few days,
so Wednesday and Thursday, I know that was very prominent
on our reentries. So great work.
Speaker 2 (02:01:40):
We thought it was okay, you know, but it could
have been a little better.
Speaker 3 (02:01:43):
But yeah, sorry, how that goes. We need to get
on one of these days. The next few weeks Prebay off.
Speaker 1 (02:01:50):
To Germany, right, Yeah, are they going, James, Some of
them are going before. Team's going after practice Thursday, right,
so it's a normal week until Thursday. But I think
some people are going before that.
Speaker 2 (02:01:59):
I'm not sure. I feel like Lara has a lot
of jobs with the Colts. She does all of them
very well, so whenever I ask her what she's up to,
I'm never surprised. It is something I've never heard of before.
She doesn't definite job at it.
Speaker 1 (02:02:11):
I think this might be nerdy for some, but we
did this a couple of years ago when the Colts
twins to Germany, and people appreciated the segment. We're gonna
have Malaney Lowe join us Tuesday. She is the football
ops extraordinaire for the Colts, and the operation of sending
a team over to play in Germany just one week
(02:02:32):
out of the year is quite the endeavor. So she's
going to join us Tuesday. She's leaving, I believe Tuesday midday.
She's going to join us. Nine o'clock on Tuesday with
Rick Carlisle obviously at eight, but I think it's pretty
interesting just hearing some of the logistical hurdles to get
a team overseas, all the equipment, all the staff members,
et cetera, et cetera. Again, this stadium is a very
(02:02:54):
old stadium. I believe they have a soccer game this
weekend there. It's a historic stadium there in Berlin from
an Olympic standpoint. But you know, they got to go
in and knock down walls in the locker rooms to
getting ready for you know, fifty three man roster and
all of that. So that'll be Tuesday coming up.
Speaker 3 (02:03:11):
See you where Berlin.
Speaker 1 (02:03:14):
Head did Germany? Is that Kenny Moore announcing the draft pick?
Speaker 3 (02:03:18):
Yeah, Kenny Moore speaking German.
Speaker 1 (02:03:20):
We got to like that mm hm, getting it done
from Berlin, right, yeah, you announce that? Yeah? Interesting?
Speaker 2 (02:03:25):
Unless it was a green screen, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:03:27):
I tht it was.
Speaker 5 (02:03:28):
I was actually there, which is Crezzy, Hey, we need
you to fly to Berlin. Why we need you not
to draft pick?
Speaker 6 (02:03:34):
Right?
Speaker 2 (02:03:34):
Okay, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:03:35):
We've talked about it before, but just having Kenny Moore back,
it's just to me. It settles that entire secondary down.
Speaker 1 (02:03:41):
Yeah, he's a player that makes you sleep well at night.
He's not Max Bowen. He makes you sleep well at night.
Speaker 3 (02:03:47):
Max taking a straight right there.
Speaker 1 (02:03:49):
Dino or spiding for him here? Pick wise guy, we
gotta do my helmet pick now with Max?
Speaker 2 (02:03:55):
Now I think about it.
Speaker 1 (02:03:56):
What have we got here?
Speaker 2 (02:03:57):
Mark Dyke?
Speaker 1 (02:03:57):
Can you want to lead us off? Three point favorite?
The Colts one of the higher over unders of week nine?
What do you got?
Speaker 5 (02:04:05):
Colt's forty two Steelers ten colored Colts whacked the Mia
four old bones of Aaron Rodgers getting crushed down?
Speaker 1 (02:04:14):
How much is that your heart versus your head?
Speaker 5 (02:04:17):
That's hard, say one with Tim forty two ten getting
their asses kicked Aaron Rodgers. There's gonna be Aaron Rodgers
imprints on the ground that hasn't. That's like a hate
boost right there, so his ass. I am going thirty
one twenty Colts. So you're just over, yeah, just I
think it'll be, you know, somewhat of a competitive game,
(02:04:39):
having played in Pittsburgh in years, especially when it comes
to fans, so I do think that environment might be
a little tricky to navigate early on. But as they
put up some points, they should be able to cruise
and keep this thing rolling.
Speaker 3 (02:04:52):
I don't know how you feel, Kevin, but to me,
the three point spread seems crazy. That's one of those
I want. I just want to run and hit that thing.
Because I see the Colts winning, like by two touchdowns
thirty eight twenty four. They're just that they're on a roll.
I don't know that Pittsburgh passed Watt has much to
(02:05:13):
stop them defensively. I can even scale it down and
say thirty five twenty one, but I still like the over.
I love the over, and I love the Colts covering
three thirty.
Speaker 1 (02:05:22):
One twenty three Colts. The Seahawks have already won by
two scores in Pittsburgh. Green Bay did it Sunday night.
I don't think it's the vaunted place to play. And again,
you jump on them early, I think you'll hear some
fire Tomlin chance. One thing that does worry me a
little bit if it gets close in the fourth quarter
kicking outdoors. Chris Boswell is a great, great kicker, and
(02:05:44):
I still have some questions about Michael Badgley outdoors, so
that would be a little bit of a concern. But yeah,
I expect the Colts to cover this with the two
score win. I guess thirty one twenty threes, not two scores.
Let me go thirty three to twenty.
Speaker 5 (02:05:55):
Charlie Batch of any eligibility left because they don't even
need it. When Aaron Rodgers gets scraped off the ground,
Mark's channing, Tommy Maddox, Yes, TV.
Speaker 3 (02:06:03):
And Tommy Maddox, that's some of the great And I
say that you might Rodgers more than I hate Brian Kelly.
Speaker 2 (02:06:10):
I don't think it's close. I despise that man. Yeah,
I don't think it's close either, which is saying something
I really don't like Brian Kelly.
Speaker 1 (02:06:17):
I hope it's Bacon's limp. Where do I go from there?
Speaker 2 (02:06:23):
That is, start using it as a diss some of the.
Speaker 3 (02:06:27):
Other AFC South games. Jacksonville in Las Vegas, Jacksonville's four
and three? Any any chance the Raiders can throw a
throw a wrench into their machine right there?
Speaker 6 (02:06:36):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (02:06:37):
I don't. I don't believe in jackson.
Speaker 5 (02:06:40):
I don't believe in the Raiders either. Carroll's looking around
like I came out of retirement for this.
Speaker 1 (02:06:44):
Crosby can win a game.
Speaker 3 (02:06:46):
I know Houston is hosting the Broncos. They are three
and four, but it feels like they're starting to get
it together again. I think Nico Collins is going to
play again.
Speaker 1 (02:06:53):
We should be back from concussion protocol.
Speaker 2 (02:06:55):
He's a bawler.
Speaker 3 (02:06:57):
And of course Colt's playing at Pittsburgh. We've talked about
that one quite a bit and it's just starting to
feel like and I guess we'll mention the Titans are
hosting the Chargers, but they're not much of a threat
to the division at this point in time. But it's
time to make the move. And we'll listen for the
pregame beginning a ten kick off at one right here
on ninety three five and one of seven.
Speaker 1 (02:07:14):
Five to the fan, Have a great Halloween.
