Speaker 1 (00:00):
Another weekend in a history and series the last two
years of huge weekends here in Indianapolis. Got a lot
going on. First place on the line of the AFC
South on Sunday, first place in the Big Ten on
the line tomorrow night in football at Lucas Oil Stadium,
and then you got some unbelievable matchups for college basketball
over the next twenty four to thirty six hours or so.
(00:22):
You got the Pacers in Chicago tonight. So much going on.
We had a great Thursday night football game last night.
If you had the over. If last night, if you
took and teased up Kevin the over at seventy three and.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
A half, you won.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah, highest over under in the NFL this season and
that number was easily a clip. So Jason Hammer a winner.
He gave us Lions minus three forty four to thirty. Right,
was that the first?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I was it for those that stayed up for it
last night. So that Lion's offense still plenty of potency.
Important win for them and the Dow Cowboys will have
to fight and uphill climb to get into the playoff picture.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Good morning, James, what everybody coming up all bundled up today.
I got my sweater and the long sleeve shirt underneath that.
Caleb's rocking in here for Mark Dyke today. He's got
the skull cap knit skull cap on. Kevin, you walked
in with a hat over, a big knit hat, and James,
you got you came in all bundled up today too.
It's just gonna be. It's that time of year, I
(01:24):
suppose in Indianapolis, right.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah, you know, like I said, when I walked in,
shout out to Kevin for saying happy birthday to me.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
That was pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
So at thirty, you know, the blood gets a little colder.
I felt like I got up and the back was
creaking a little bit. I was like, boy, I'm getting
pretty old these days. But no, you know, this time
of year, I feel like it is what it is.
If I could legally change my birthday is July fifth,
I would.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
We like it. You beat me to the post. But
it's getting ready to wish you happy thirtieth birthday today. Yeah,
I want to see lots of good wishes coming in
for James. On the fan text line today seventy and
your sister's gonna have parades and everything and you're just
gonna chill out right, Yeah, I'm gonna chill out.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I have no idea. My mom and my dad are like,
what are you doing later today? I have no idea working,
cause that's kind of what it is. Especially in school.
You guys always had tests. This is always around finals time.
So I never really had a chance to, like, on
the actual birthday, do anything kind of crazy.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
But my sister, shout out to Jessica.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
She works at a bank, so she gets all of
the Columbus Day and random days.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
You think are just for schools.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
She gets all those off, and she definitely never works
on her birthday, So shou out to her.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
So Kevin, I don't know if Kevin's wondering. I'm wondering though,
as a kid growing up, knowing that you were kind
of like taking your birthday and stride and your sister
was like, Hey, it's my birthday, let's go. Did your
parents as time went on feed more into giving her
the huge birthday that she wanted while you just kind
of took the back seat and moved on.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, I'm easy going, So whenever we were growing up,
it was always whatever she wants to do, I'm cool.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
With that.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I like that, KB. I know your family. I saw
Max yesterday. You had the he chose the Colts yesterday.
If you want to go check that out online. It's
always in one of my favorite videos of the week.
He's already like he doesn't care. He's wearing shorts outside
in the cold. I noticed that yesterday too.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yes, we did film that earlier this week amidst the snow.
He did rock some shorts in it and some sunglasses.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Had to be scared for us. I actually went and
looked outside. I was like, don't have to clime my
car off right now.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Yeah, that was recorded a little bit earlier in the week.
Sorry to strike fear, but yes, he seems to be
a little bit more biased towards the Colts lightly. But
we'll give our picks later in the show, and I
think Dad will be like Sun, I really think the
Colts will win on Sunday. I know I'm not unanimous
and not thinking I think in studio, but I do
think the Colts will get it done. And obviously, what
(03:45):
is a monumental one coming up Sunday afternoon?
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, I wanted to talk about that right after bat.
This is it what I call this is and really
everything in life is an opportunity, but this is a
big opportunity game for the Indianapolis Cults. I know they've
lost two of the last three. I know that they're
not technically in first place in the AFC South right now.
But here's a chance to take that first eight weeks
of the season where you put all that equity in
(04:10):
the bank and say, you know what, this is who
we are going to be moving forward. We are going
to go in on the road against a divisional opponent
and you can rationalize the lost to Houston all you want.
You can talk about. You know, the kicker messed up,
the referee had a series of bad calls at the
beginning of the fourth quarter that completely hosed us. Whatever,
(04:31):
you bounce back, you go on the road, you go
to a place James where you haven't won in a decade,
and you say this is who we are. I would
like to see the Colts with a beautiful mix of
run pass, But at the end of the day, I
want to see the Colts put a bloody lip on
the Jacksonville Jaguars. I want to see Clinton. I want
to see Quinton Nelson in that offensive line, just dominate
(04:52):
up front. I want to see Jonathan Taylor carry the
ball twenty five times for one hundred and thirty yards
in a touchdown or two. I want them to leave
Duval and leave a mark on the way out. That's
what I want this week. Start a Friday morning.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Guys, you got blood all week long.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
You got body left there?
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Ye bloody lift Colton won in the last month was
the Daniel Jones bloody lip.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I want to I was trying to give somebody else
that bloody lip this week.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
I think the Colts need the bloody lip. Right, isn't
the only win in the last month Daniel Jones' bloody lips.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
So you got to take a shot, give a shot.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
I want blood left on that field that I want
to win.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Coming home, well, there might be some things in that pool.
I don't know what's in that.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Pool, but the fan base is certainly welcome a win
for this team. But as I told you all, we'll
give our picks later in the show. I'll never pick
them to win in Jacksonville to I see with my
mom two us. I don't care what happens. I mean,
I actually think they're a better team than Jacksonville right
now at this very moment. But I will not pick
them because I was actually I put it out this morning.
I went through, uh, the last ten losses. None of
(05:56):
it makes sense. So if you try to lose logic
in this, I feel like you're doing that with disservice.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
The one this may be the one lingering thing that
does stick with me in this series of the last
decade for Jacksonville. The one game that I'll just never
get over Kevin is the six to nothing game. I've
never understand that game and get over it.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yeah, the six to nothing game. I think you can
largely chalk it up to somehow Frank w Reich's just
inability to concede a field goal, which I know a
lot of people have been bitching a moaning about Shane
Steikin's aggressiveness. They had I think five drives reached Jacksonville
territory in that game and just never kicked. Never tried
it out of military out there at some fourth downs.
It did not work out. You know. The most egregious
(06:37):
one is probably the twenty twenty one loss. Considering you
were playing for your playoff lives, Jacksonville had nothing to
play for Lawan Treadwell, who now is a cult special teamer,
score the first touchdown that game. So yeah, the streak
is a streak. I tried to offer some optimism yesterday.
The streak started ten years ago, Week fourteen.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
I'm here for it, Kevin.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Now it ends years later, I'm here for it week fourteen.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I think the.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
One consistent thing, James, and I certainly hear you out.
You know, there's been various scores, there's been various quarterbacks,
while the faces have changed. I think the one constant
is the Jaguars defensive line is absolutely with the Colts
offensive line on an annual basis, and that, once again,
to me, is the top of the storyline for Sunday,
(07:21):
and the Jaguars d lines will beat up right now.
The Colts offensive line once again is intact. I mean,
the health of the offensive line this year has just
been a dream. I get the Colts have had some
other injuries, but it's been a dream scenario to have
that group intact, and they need to I guess bloody
lip the Jags. If I could steal something from Jeff there,
so yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I thought Blake
Groupy had a little pop in the five to seven
(07:42):
leg yesterday.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Who was that a perfect seven for seven James, Yes,
including what a sixty plus yarder felt like at the
end of that kicking session. But as many pointed out
to me on social media, they were telling me, we
don't care about the distance. Make the pats and make
those short ones that have kind of plague you this year.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Smattering of applause and Blake group he got done with
his kicking session yesterday. From his teammates and a few
coaches in there, I thought Daniel Jones was moving a
little better. I don't want to act like it's, you know,
crystal clear, but maybe call it. He looked like you
getting out of the bed at the age of thirty
versus Mark Dyton getting out of the bed Sunday at
the age of forty.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
That's probably.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Uh, I'm good with that. I mean, I know Mark
will be good with that. He'll probably defend himself to
some audio. Yeah exactly that.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
We need to play audio Mark all day.
Speaker 5 (08:29):
I'm definitely teeing kick kick a parcel wall.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
They're down dial some of that up.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yeah, this is we're in the last real marketing hours
of our time in this studio with all these computers
before we upgrade to everything brand new, uh coming up
on Wednesday, and so just empty it all out. I
find whatever you can't want.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
To give a shout out to Kenny Moore the second
he is the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year
nominee for the Colts. There's a lot in the community,
teaches over at Cardinal Ritter on Tuesdays. Stay tuned on
that as far as the story I'm working on. But yeah,
he's a really good dude, well deserving. So it's cool
to hear Kaylen Jackson come in Colts owner give him
(09:07):
his flowers. And then it was funny because Kevin I
thought he was more nervous in that press conference and
you normally ever see Kenny. He gave maybe like a
fifteen second acceptance speech and that was it. I was like,
you know, you want to say a little bit more.
I want to brag a little bit more about yourself.
He's just not that type. But he really is well
deserving and just a really cool dude overall.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah, third time right that he has been the Colts
nominee for that, and you know he has done so much,
not only in our community, but also back in the
Valdosta area or back you know, in his home community
as well. And you know I said this to him
when he joined us at training camp. Kenny's a hell
of a story. He's just a hell of an NFL story,
a story period. But you know, label it in the
(09:50):
NFL world, you know, to be the undrafted free agent again.
He started in New England. I know I've shared this
story before, but the Colts played the Patriots early in
the twenty eighteen season and it was when Bill Belichick
was still the coach, and that was back when we
did the visiting coach conference call, and I thought to myself,
you know what, what is a question I could ask
Belichick that I won't get some curmudgeties on a Cincinnati
(10:10):
answer exactly. And I thought, you know what, let's ask
Kenny Moore question. Who knows, maybe he'll be like, yeah,
that dude was an undrafted free agent for four months
and I don't even remember what number he wore. H
And he gave about a two to three minute answer
on Kenny Moore And I'm thinking to myself, Damn, this
dude's been in the league for a little over a year.
Spent four months on your roster and you're given an
(10:33):
answer that's longer than anything else in this conference call.
And so that was still kind of early Kenny. And
obviously on the field and off the field, it speaks
for itself what he's done here, so very very deserving
and a guy that loves the local area. And certainly
Saturday nights it will be quite the scene in downtown Indianapolis.
So Purdue fans stay outside of four sixty five. You
(10:56):
might have your Monday in April coming up in a
few months downtown, But for Saturday Night, it is cream
and it is Crimson.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
We're gonna talk all about that. It's got the checkdown
coming up in a moment. Calebin for Mark Dyton today,
who starts is one out of the I think he's
gonna work two of the next sixty eight days.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
Yeah, something like yeah. He called it a bullpen excited
to be here. I love that, all right.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
We got it all for you on the way right
here at ninety three five and one oh seven five
The Faith.
Speaker 6 (11:26):
The Morning Checkdown on ninety sweet five and one oh
seven five, The Fan, Oh do we have a busy weekend.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
It starts today we'll start with, Man, the fan has
got you covered four huge games for you in the
next forty eight hours or so. We will start tonight
when the Indiana Pacers hit the road to take on
the Chicago Bulls. That one will tip off at eight o'clock.
Pregame at seven point thirty, and Kevin Bowen Ben Shephard
now has a calf injury and we'll miss the game.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, boy, everybody's out a calf injury, right, So I
would assume Jars Walker gets a little starting action here
for the Pacers. So yeah, up in Chicago tonight, we'll
see about Kobe White, one of their better players. He's
been dealing with some injuries. And these teams have already
faced off fights they split so far. Of course, you
had the Siakam game winner over this past weekend here,
So Pacers are a four and a half point underdog
(12:16):
up there in the Windy City.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Eight o'clock. All right, that's tonight, seven thirty year Times
starts here on the fan, tip at eight o'clock, and
then tomorrow all kinds of college basketball. We'll start with
the game that'll be played on the fan or hurt
on the fan anyway, that'll be Butler hosting Boise State.
That one will tip off at one thirty from Hinkle Fieldhouse. Again,
you'll be able to hear that one on the fan
and also downtown two fifteen in the afternoon. James Boyd,
(12:40):
I you and Louisville basketball get things going over at
the field House.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Big matchup because IU is coming off a terrible loss,
I thought, against a Minnesota team that really isn't that good.
So can you bounce back against a Louisville team that
has a little bit of pump in their resume?
Speaker 1 (12:54):
All right? And Iowa State, we'll be visiting Perdue. That
one starts at noon, and wouldn't be shocked to see
a Tyree'syliburton siding up there.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Would Ryan Conwell, by the way, with Louisville speaking of
the local action there. The Pike product he is transferred
around and he will be has had a really nice
start to the year for Louisville. And yeah, great game
in Mackie. So that'll start things off on CBS. Purdue
and Iowa State. I love the home and homes that
Purdue has put on their non conference schedule here over
the years. Iowa State can score and no team is
(13:21):
shot at better in college basketball this year than the Cyclones.
So yeah, I would venture to guest Tyres Haliburton might
make a visit.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
All right, that's what's on our basketball schedule over the
next twenty four hours or so. And then tomorrow night
chains eight pm. Lucas Oil Stadium, number one, Ohio State,
number two Indiana. I'm talking in the nation those on
the rankings. It's also for the Big Ten Conference championship
and another I've talked about opportunity at the beginning of
the show. Another opportunity for Indiana's show. We are ready
(13:52):
to sit at the big kids table and take our shots. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Saw the photo that Jake Query shot out to Query
and Company that he put out on his Twitter yesterday,
and that was a dope looking photo. Man the Indiana
Hoosiers logo in the end zone a Lucas Oil Stadium
look pretty sweet. So huge matchup. You haven't beat Ohio
State and what thirty plus years. Here's your opportunity.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
All right, they'll look forward to you are in the womb,
James Boyd on.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Your birthday, argu before I was even thought of. I
gotta tell you the story how my parents decided to
have kids. It was pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Ash, I was getting have we cleared this with your
parents yet?
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:28):
This is inappropriate. It's just funny because there there this
explains my parents.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Yeah, it's gonna be a big day of college football.
That will be the culmination obviously number one versus number two,
but uh, conference championships are gonna be decided all over
the place. And Kevin, I know, as a Notre Dame fan,
which ones are you most focused on and what needs
to roll your way for the fighting Irish.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Jackxas tech baby, Let's go Red Raiders. What did Bob
Knight say about that red sweater? I will say it
as well. If they can get it done, boy, that's
what another name is. Shameful, badly, badly need. So I
believe that it's noon tomorrow they are I think a
twelve point favorite over BYU Alabama Georgia. If you're an
under name fan, you want Georgia in that one. So yeah, busy,
(15:10):
busy day on the college championship front. But of course
nothing bigger in this market than tomorrow night. And again
it's ideal. You got house money because even if you lose,
you play for a trip to the National semi finals
in a month, which is a dream.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
How much fun is it to see that Georgia and
Alabama are playing at four pm in a conference championship
and you're like, yeah, but that's just like the appetizer
for today. We got to get to the Indiana game. James.
Love that different world we're living in. It's a different
world war, and I'm here for it all right. NFL
Week fourteen started last night Thursday Night Football. The Detroit
Lions put forty four on the Dallas Cowboys. They went
(15:47):
at forty four to thirty three touchdowns, rushing for one
Jamayor Gibbs at forty three yards, but man, he was
hitting the goal line every time. Snaps a three game
Cowboys winning streak, having to leave the game with a
concussion wide receiver C. D Lamb, and then George Pickens
becoming famous for not even trying to catch a football
that looked like it was ready to be caught on
a long pass down field. I don't know if you
(16:08):
saw that highlight this morning, Kevin.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Yeah, Richard Sherman was not holding back at all and
kind of calling George Pickens out for that one. So big,
big win. For the fighting Dan Campbell's as they prove
that that offense still has a lot of potency in it.
And for Dallas, they've got a steep climb to get
into the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Okay. Meanwhile, the Colts will play in Jacksonville on Sunday
one pm. Pregame starts at ten. You'll hear all right
here on ninety three five and one oh seven five
the Fan Big News yesterday. Kenny Moore is the Walter
Peyton Man of the Year for the Colts, and man,
you talked about some of the great works that he does.
But what I liked about learning more about that story
James is not as you go to Cardinal Ritter and
(16:48):
hang out with kids, but he spends like every week
a couple hours with those kids, building long lasting, long
term relationships.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Not surprised if you know the man who is kennymore
the set and so that's one of many things he
does in the community. And it was an easy choice
for him to be nominated for the third time as
the Colts Walter Payton Man of the Year.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
All Right, both teams Colts Jaguars eight and four on
the season, Jaguars technically in first place in the AFC
South Colts can change all that and also break a
ten game road losing streak against Jacksonville with a win.
That's what's happening in the NFL NBA. Last night a
notable event James. Did you see Lebron James streak of
one thousand, two hundred and ninety seven consecutive games scoring
(17:30):
double figures comes to an end. He's held to eight points,
but he gets the last laugh and Lebron James face
fashion the key assist on the game winning bucket.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
Yeah, I watched it.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I was streaming it because I want to see history
either way, and I think it's funny how people frame
it as, Oh, he sacrificed to streak to win the game,
which to a degree he did. He could have shot
it with the tai game. Could have shot it. You
make it, you get the ten points, you miss, you
got overtime. Do you have more time to get your
ten points? He shot four for seventeen. He shot a
(18:02):
bunch of bricks like he didn't sacrifice anything, and look
credits to where credit is due. It was kind of
poetic how it ended with him making the right play.
That's Lebron's thing, right, make the right play. The man
looks washed. I was watching him, he looks old, and
you know, he looks like me getting up this morning.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Now he looks like Daniel Jones last week. If we
want to continue that analogy. There one thing that I
thought was just amazing. They threw up the graphic last night.
You mentioned Jeff on two hundred ninety seven straight games. Yeah,
only twenty four players in NBA history have ever played
that many games. Oh wow, And he had a streak
of double digit points in that amount, and he's one
(18:39):
where like he whenever it's said and done for him,
he's gonna have all of these just absolutely absurd stats. Yeah,
that will never be reached like that. Only twenty four
dudes in the history of the NBA that have played
that many games. And he had double digit points and
all them.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
Yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
They said that he has nine single digit regular season
games in his career and he's been to the finals
ten times, So you have more finals appearance, you have
single discording.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
Is this that's crazy? It's crazy.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
That is maybe the most put it in perspective stat
I've ever heard.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Well, like I said, you know, I'm Jeff enjoy watching
Lebron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Urant. The latter two still
look like stars. This dude boy is getting later early
for the whole Bron.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I do want to update one coaching search. Penn State
continues to have troubles. They are now focusing on Iowa
State's Matt Campbell. It looks like Sataki's gonna be out
of it. From BYU, he looks like he's gonna stay
there with the cougar's there. But check this out. If
Matt Campbell turns them down. The players are openly lobbying
administration now for acting head coach Terry Smith to get
(19:46):
the job. He's been an assistant head coach and a
cornerback coach for a couple of years now. And I
hadn't even thought about this, but I was watching one
of the analysis James, and when the portal opens, we
already know that James Franklin's taken eleven then commits from
Penn State with him to Virginia Tech. And people are saying, yeah, wait,
you see what happens to the Penn State roster when
(20:06):
the portal opens and they all go follow him to
Virginia Tech. How crazy would that be.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
We'll see, but it's such a weird development for Penn State,
say the least man.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
It truly is. Uh, that's the world we're living in.
Penn State can't buy themselves a coach. Alabama and Georgia
are the warm up game, and Indiana and Ohio State
are taking center stage. I love college football right now,
love it, love it, love it all Right, that's gonna
bring us to a quick time out. We've got Greg
Greg Straw coming up at the top of the hour
eight o'clock. Matt Taylor will be on with Taylor's Tidbits
(20:38):
coming up at nine am this morning. We'll get to
your predictions of what's going to happen with the Colts
this weekend. But I also want to get your thoughts
on how monumental this weekend is for the IU Hoosiers
two three, nine, ten to seventy on the fan text line,
let us know. We'll get to some of those next
It's ninety three five and one oh seven to five
the fan. Happy thirtieth to my man James point Over.
(21:01):
People are already offering, Hey, what's your venmo, Let's send
him some happy birthday stuff, And you are very politely like, hey, man,
I just want some good wishes.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Yeah, no, I never do that. No disrepect anybody who
does it. That's their thing. But yeah, I can't be
asking for money out hear I get paid. Wait, people
do that flask Yeah, they throw their I think that's
honestly a younger generation thing where they turn a certain
age and they say, you know, wish me have a
birthday and they drop the vemo and you'd be expected
to give you cash for your birthday, which I mean,
(21:29):
I guess it makes sense if it's family who might
do that for you. But no, for those listening, I
will not ask you for money. I'm very glad that
you're listening, though I would ask you to keep listening.
That's about it.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, I think I can speak for the handle here.
None of us in terms of social media scams and everything.
Nobody here is going to ever ask you for money,
unless it's to go to like an official fundraising thing
for the Salvation Army that we're doing later on this
month with WIBC, where you can actually go officially to
a site and see what's going on there. Kevin's like,
(22:01):
I don't know, I'm starting to think about this now
all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
No, I don't pay for a couple.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
I'm still stunned by what James just told me.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
No, but a lot of content creators will have like
a link there in their profile.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Like by that's what I am now, Okay on this
radio grind and right and all the.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Platform content creator, we're the original content creators. You create
a massive amount of content every week.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Yes, so drop the vemo. Kevin Bowen got to create
that tip jar let's go.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
James, you're going.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
No umbrella, you said?
Speaker 5 (22:30):
And Jackson, no umbrella. I don't bring umbrellas anywhere. Okay.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Two things that I just don't have or probably will
never buy less I'm forced. Maybe the significant other in
years to come will force me. But snow boots. I
will never wear those again in my life. I hated
him when I was growing up. I feel like I
was the lamest kid ever when I ever had to
wear them the school And we're not in Siberia. You
got a couple of little bit of snow get to
the school, You're fine. And umbrellas. I feel like I'm
never walking outside long enough for me to have an umbrella.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Sunday's forecast in Jacksonville hours early becoming a steady rain
later in the day. Potential for heavy rainfall, rainfall possibly
over one inch.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
I'll bring the like the rain parka cold.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
I got a couple of Nike hoodies that are like that,
so I'll bring that and I'll be fine.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Rain better for the Colts of the Jags.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Oh, good question. I'll probably go Colts. They can run it.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Jt still an MVP caliber player, just needs to get
unlocked a little bit with his offensive line.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Old line's gotta give him some help here. Let me
ask you guys this. I was thinking about this on
the on the way in this morning, in the non
Jonathan Taylor, non star realm for the Colts. Who really
needs to have a good football game on Sunday off
the line?
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Yeah, I said it earlier. Again, I think the Jags
have whipped the Colts up front in this whatever decade
long streak down there. And yeah, I think that is
the number one key for me. And you know, Jacksonville
a little banged up on their offensive line. They'll be
likely without their left tackle. They're also gonna be without
their leading snap guy on defense, one of their starting safeties.
(24:12):
So Basically, if you put that into Colts terms, you're
looking at like a Bernard Ryman Zire Franklin loss in
a game. I would say that's rather notable. I obviously,
I know the Colts are dealing with their own injuries
with Buckner and him Sauce Gardner, but still Jacksonville gonna
be a little banged up. But yeah, I just boiled
down to the trenches.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Speaking of the trenches, I keep waiting and waiting and waiting.
Is there a breakout game in sight and a consistent
breakout game in sight? Consistent consistency being the key for
a lot.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
To I'm not sure. Honestly.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
I know he has what the three interceptions, and it's
the most in a single season for a Cols defensive lineman.
That to me is like an anomaly. He made a
great play, don't get me wrong, against Patrick Mahone a
few weeks ago. But when I look at his career,
we might look up at the end of it and
say he never got another interception again, cause it's just
kind of weird, like that you paid him and you
(25:09):
drafted him that high because you want him to get
after the quarterback and he doesn't do that. Have a
consistent basis, and what's weird about it is Kevin We're
talking about this actually with Mike Chapel. Shout out to
the Dean Fox fifty nine in the media room yesterday,
and he's on the list of all of the pressures
and you know, time to get after the quarterback and
(25:33):
QB hits. But it's not sacks. It's so weird that
he can't finish plays into a degree. I'm not saying
he's like a complete bus or anything. I think Abdul
Carter in New York for the Giants is what you
would call a bus. So far, I think he has
one and a half sacks through thirteen fourteen games. Latchu's
been fine, but that's not good enough for a first
round pick. You need him to be a disruptor and
(25:54):
a game changer. And really that's the next step I
think for this defense to take a leap, especially in
the absence of DeForest Buckner.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Well. One thing too about Lotswo is when you drafted him,
you know he was pretty ready made in the sense
of he produced at a high level in college. A
little bit of an older player as well. You know,
sometimes you see pass rushers drafted in Round one, and
you're drafting a little bit more on potential, a little
bit more on Hey, they maybe didn't have the crazy
eye poppy numbers, but we think we can kind of
(26:22):
mold that Clay. That was not really the thought with Lots.
I mean, the thought was he would walk into the
NFL and, compared to most young pass rushers, would be
able to give you pretty instant impact. And yeah, I
think you're just left wanting a little bit more in
the finishing of plays department.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Well, they're going to have to get some kind of
pressure on Trevor Lawrence, I think, to make this run
down the stretch and it starts on Sunday against Trevor Lawrence,
and you'd like, I keep I don't know, I keep
waiting for him to have like that two sac day
where he starts to maybe build on that and get
some confidence and show himself that hey, I could be
(27:00):
a game disruptor beyond just use great play against Kansas City.
But that's why he was brought here to be that guy, right,
I mean, I don't think you expect him to necessarily
be like Miles Garrett, but you'd like to see him
be a guy that puts consistent pressure on the defense
or the offense.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Who's the better player at their position? Miles Garrett or
the Dallas Cowboys kicker. Is the Dallas Cowboys kicker the
greatest player in the NFL? Right now?
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Are you allowed to ever choose a kicker over any
defensive player? Like that thing?
Speaker 2 (27:29):
You just compare that player to the rest of position.
You compare that player to the rest of his position.
Is Brandon Aubrey that much better than everybody else at
his position? I think Miles Garrett would be the only
other player. I'm still taking Miles, but yeah, yeah, but
like it's the only question in my opinion. And I
(27:50):
say that in all seriousness.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
So you're saying, like him and the gap between the
next person, So you're compared to his quarterbacks, comparing Jonathan
Taylor to all the running You might be right because
I also going to him and I was like, boy.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Did you see how many sixty two last night?
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (28:04):
I was thinking, like, how many teams would you know
trade a pick for him?
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Can you?
Speaker 4 (28:09):
I'm dead serious, Like, if you're a playoff team and
you know you're gonna get into the get into the dance, if.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
You could give up a Day two pick. Would you
do it to ensure that you have the best kick
round pick to trade for a kick second or third
round pick? That dude, exactly, I'm serious.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
If you're the New England Patriots, if you're the Denver Broncos,
you're like, you know what we might act? I just
got that going to run here we needed we didn't
make sure we, you know, top some loose ends.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
I want a soccer player another Dame Brandon Aubrey. By
the way, we have the FIFA World Cup drawl. Are
you guys into the World Cup at all?
Speaker 1 (28:42):
That's coming up later on today? Man, they making this
star studded today, aren't they?
Speaker 2 (28:46):
At noon today to the United States, will find out
who was in their group. We've already qualified. Why because
we're hosting? That sounds a little Is.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
That the only reason? Seriously? Yeah, that's hilarious.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
But yeah, I'm looking forward to.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
But I think.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
I enjoy watching what everyone else is kind of locked into,
which is why I watched the World Series and stayed
up that one night super late to see how it
ended or was it eighteen innings or whatever it is.
So I think seeing the excitement from the different fan base,
especially the countries, is always something that I don't want
to miss out on.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
So, and then just the moment. I mean, it's what's
once every four years, man, So if you miss it
or if you make the moment, it's always pretty exciting.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
I was doing some research over the weekname lou Annaarumo's
defenses have beaten the Jacksonville Jaguars four consecutive games dating
back to twenty twenty. Does that matter? Does that mean anything?
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Trevor Lawrence struggling against lou I'll.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
Not have to go back and look at what his
numbers actually are.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
They've scored some points, but they've come up short.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
They've scored Yeah, I thought I looked up in earlier
in the week. Twenty one and thirty one I think
are the point totals with Lawrence as quarterback. I guess
some of those games maybe includes not Trevor Lawrence a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Yeah, last year every so, yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
I mean twenty one and thirty one. I those striking
me as a decent point totals. Of you average that out.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Well, I guess it's only three games because the list
included the matchup between the Bengals and Jacksonville this year obviously,
and it wasn't the defensive coordinator then, but at least
he's come up on the right side of things against
them the last three times he's played him. James, I'll
take that. I'm looking for anything right now because I
still think that the cults are a bit better. I
think they have the opportunity to right themselves. Daniel Jones,
(30:26):
did he look like he was moving any better with
with helping Australia? Could you really tell? Could you see anything?
Speaker 4 (30:31):
He looked better than he did a week ago from yesterday,
for sure, But at the same time genius analysis from
James Boyd here tune in.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
People.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
You always look a little better when you don't have
big people diving at your leg. So how does it
feel on Sunday?
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Look, I mean I legitimately and James, you obviously had
that video last Thursday. I think if you compare the
last Thursday video to this Thursday, he definitely looks better.
Oh absolutely, I don't think it's by any means. You know,
if you really want to die like the video, you
still see that foot dragon a little bit and that
you definitely and I think in the video that you
had James. You saw like a noticeable limp after Yeah,
(31:10):
the specifics he don't want to put on his leg
last week, whereas this week I didn't notice that as much. Yesterday,
Well his former college team had gave him a bionic leg.
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
He's like, well Smith and I robot.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Maybe the confidence is just up to the education.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Confidence might be might not be enough to fix your fibula.
I think it's drugs and a nice pad they I.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Mean confidence in that sometimes when when it's new and
you're trying to deal with it and what's this going
to be like and how's it going to react? I
think you are initially a lot more protective of it
as opposed to you start to get more comfortable. Now
you've got that little little uh device that is that
his former duke roommate built that that's maybe giving him
(31:53):
support and maybe he doesn't feel like it hurts as
much as it did. I'm just saying maybe he feels
a lot more comfortable with this.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
Is like when Nathan Brown shout out to Nathan Brown,
I love his work at Indy Star, New Colts Beat reporter.
He did ask Daniel Jones earlier this week, is it
almost beneficial to get hit in the leg so you
know you can take a hit. And Daniel looked at
him and was like, no, not necessarily.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
I was waiting for Damshell's feel like that is an idiotical.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
I think he probably meant it in the vein of
a lot of players say that they don't feel like
they really get juiced into the game until they take that.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
I think it's the confidence thing, like Kate Ken, you know,
am I not going to like freak out if I
get hit? But I was thinking he's probably, you know,
willing to avoid testing that theory out.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Better chance the streaking Jacksonville ends or the streak over
Ohio State ends.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
Oh Jacksonville for sure, Jacksonville for sure.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
I feel like.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
Kevin is just a master with these questions.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Question.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
I think people talk about the Jacksonville thing is a curse?
Is the Ohio State thing a curse? Or I think
it's been a lot better.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
That's a I think that's just a different level than.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Thirty years about it. I just think Tomorrow Night is
such an awesome feeling for a fan because it's house money,
like it's one versus two. But the ramifications if you lose,
like usually when you talk about the biggest game in
your fandom's history, there.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Are some heartbreak on the other side of that.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Oh my gosh, there are tears if the result doesn't
go your way. Season's over, the other rival wins, you know,
oh my gosh, the dream is done. Like, no matter
what happens tomorrow night, in three weeks, Indiana's football team
will go out there and play a game where if
they win that game, there'll be one game away from
the national championship. Look, that's a dream. This is house money,
(33:44):
this is beauty. You are in Vegas and somehow you
have smartly put all your other chips in a bag
and you're still playing with a ton of them total,
and you're out money. Like, there's no negative. Again, I
don't think they'll fall out of the bye because who
is at five? Who's it five?
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Is it Oregon?
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Oregon? Yeah, you're not falling behind Oregon. You beat Oregon
at Oregon. I just think it's the ideal dream scenario
for Indiana. Along with the you could end obviously the
thirty year streak, and you can win a Big ten
title and you could be then in one team in
the land.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
That's what somebody in the YouTube chest said. It's deverse.
I don't know if it's d versus.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Four point spread. Let's not act like this.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
This is an Avalacian state trying to knock off Michigan
years ago.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
And I think one of the reasons they're getting a
lot more respect this year too, is when you look
at the way that they've been winning games like this
is a team that, like most great college football teams,
they are physical upfront on both sides of the ball,
and they have speed at the skilled positions. James, they
really truly do.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
You ain't gotta tell me I own a pair of
candy striped pants because they blitzed my team about a thousand. So,
assuming Illinois is not Ohio State on that level, it
should be a closer game come tomorrow night. But big matchup,
a lot at stake, and I think it will be
honestly really cool to see if you can knock off
big brother French Change.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Yeah, and Drew from Avon says Jacksonville for sure, Kevin,
I unfortunately believe that IU loses by fourteen plus. Hope
I'm wrong, but there are a lot of people that
I think are almost afraid to think that that I
use actually on an Ohio State National championship live a level.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
That I think, Kevin, you're hitting a great point because
I think when you hear Ohio State, okay, full disclosure
from Ohio, a lot of Buckeye friends, I myself may
or may.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Not even throw you out of the show. It's okay,
I'm gonna have to throw you off the show.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
What I'm saying is, like you hear Ryan daytalk like
they had three goals, beat Michigan, win the Big Ten championship,
win a national championship, like both teams care about this
game tomorrow, and all the talk about well what are
the conference championships really mean? Like, you're right, you have
this rare scenario where both teams are in they're okay
no matter what. But both teams care about this game
(36:00):
a lot, and so I can't wait to watch. I
think it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Yeah, and one thing too, We talked a little bit
about it yesterday. You know Indiana's big moments last year Kurtzy,
and he pointed out, you know, road environments where he
felt like they just didn't meet the moment. You know, again,
I think tomorrow will be a heavy Indiana crowd in there.
And then once again in the neutral site games, you're
not gonna have that. Remember how much Signetti was upset
with how they handled the noise at Ohio State. He
didn't point necessarily to the noise I think in South Bend,
(36:26):
but more just whatever. They weren't ready to face a
team of that of that quality, or however you want
to label it. That thought shouldn't be there on the
neutral fields. And again, I don't think Tomorrow night is
going to be a neutral field.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
You still think seventies. I'm leaning more towards you. You've
been saying seventy thirty all along. I think we were
saying James sixty five.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
I mean, we're not going to be able to tell
by the old aerial shot. I don't know, Scarlet different
than than.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
The up in the corner of Lucas Royle focusing on
the entire stadium. It's on.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
I'm just gonna pause the TV and start counting by Yeah,
you're going to have your color palette out.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Okay, what Crimson, Great.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
That's a Jay Saturday Night right there. I'm gonna pause
the screen and just start counting.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
You know what's crazy, I agree to do like some
radio interview during that game, So boy, they better be
ready for some loud people in the back.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Of real journalism.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
Yeah, they were asking, you want to come on and
talk about coltson you know Jaguar.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
Sure, and I did not think about the time.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Third time ever we've gotten one versus two in the
Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Who are the other two times?
Speaker 4 (37:28):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Michigan State six that I remember that one iconic game
and neither James nor I out of the womb. Jeff,
you recall Iowa Michigan in nineteen eighty five.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
I'm trying to think who the quarterback would have been
Iowa that year. I vaguely remember, but I don't have
sparkling memories of it.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
I want to guess the score that's got That sounds
like a seven to six game.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
Ten to seven game. Steel toad kicker makes the field goal.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
You know what, though, for all the talk and the
height that the SEC gets, you know that the highest
rated games the last couple of years have still been
Ohio State Michigan at noon.
Speaker 5 (38:08):
Well, it's the game, yeah, for sure, Not that I.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Mean you like that. You think again, like there's the
SEC championship game this weekend Alabama, Georgia. You know, you
think as rabbit as people are in that area that
it would go on. But eighteen point four million viewers
this past week from Michigan Ohio State. That's not shabby.
That is not too shabby. It's a lot of folks
watching TV.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
You know what, there's a little bit of random overlap here.
We brought up Kenny Moore, the second being the Walter
Payton Man of the Year, Ohio State's defense being led
by Matt Patricia. I was talking to Kenny in the
locker room yesterday and he said, Matt Patricia, when he
joined the league and was over in New England, was
one of the coaches that really told him he had
a shot to be good in the NFL and told him, hey,
(38:51):
just put your head down and work grind and if
you do that, good things will happen. So I wonder
where Kenny is. Allegiance kind of lies this upcoming Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Well, that is one of the bigger differences from last
year's meeting is Ohio State. They again their defensive coordinator
Jim Miles now was at Penn State. Ironically enough, that
was kind of a big drama in the offseason here,
and Patricia's new to Ryan Day's staff and Ohio State's
defensive stork has put up some historic numbers here, but again,
their offense coordinator Brian Hartline just took the job with
(39:23):
South Florida there, and I think, you know, Caleb just
laid out, you know how Ryan Day views the importance
of goals. I do think that emotional hangover could be real.
I mean, Michigan is Michigan. You know, beating Michigan's a
little different than beating Perdue fifty whatever to the hell
that score was last Friday night. Indiana has been circling
the Big Ten title for weeks now. Ohio State didn't
(39:46):
circle it until Saturday at four o'clock. Once, you know,
Michigan did a great job defending the fifty yard line
after the game.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
I think the interesting question for me is in the
big picture after this game. I mentioned this yesterday. If
it's a close fought game. Let's say that Indiana wins
this game twenty seven to twenty four, it goes down
to the wire. Do both teams keep their one in
two seeds going into the postseason?
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Yeah, A lot probably depends on what Georgia does. Is
the three right, you know, if Georgia looks impressive beating Alabama,
they could jump. You know, maybe the committee wouldn't want
to drop the loser down to four because then you
could get that matchup in the semi finals of seats hold.
So you know, again, I'll I'll repeat what I said earlier.
I think both teams will still get a buy and
(40:33):
really that's all that matters. I mean, when you when
you look at the bracket, you know, last year Oregon
got the one seed and they got the worst draw.
So it just so much of it is just get
the buy. I think that's the goal for these teams
in Indiana and Ohio State are definitely gonna get the buy.
I'd be stunned, stunned if well, I shouldn't say stuned
the committee is a bunch of idiots, But I really
(40:54):
would be surprised if the committee all of a sudden
put either of these teams playing that opening weekend. I
guess it would give you a home game. Are there
any Are there any Indiana fans that want that? Do
they want the home game?
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Boy?
Speaker 2 (41:08):
If you want that moment inside your own Stadium.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
To be some odd fans. I think for that to
kind of play out the way you're laying it out.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
All right, somebody who's been following, watching, consuming, and breathing
Indiana sports his entire life. Greg Rakestraw, the expert, the
authority on all things Indiana sports, joins us next. It's
ninety three to five and one fan. Ah takes me
back to my youth, the comedy team of Cheech and Chong.
(41:38):
This war I think, isn't it Caleb? That is correct?
Good stuff? And I think George Lopez uses some of
that too, doesn't he? James didn't never remind you that
it's good stuff?
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
On a Saturday morning, it's all good, because man, we do.
We have a pack weekend. We were talking about it
all morning long. Of course, Number one versus number two
college football tomorrow night, Lucas Oil Stadium, so much much
going on. It's taken so long for Indiana to get here,
but they have arrived at this place in time and
here to tell us more about that and get us
ready to go for another Jacksonville Colts tilt the one
(42:09):
the only. Greg Rakestraw joining us here on the payless
lookers hotline, Greg and your entire Indiana sports loving life,
did you ever think that up until about eighteen months ago,
you'd ever see the day where Indiana is ready to
take their shot at Ohio State for number one?
Speaker 3 (42:26):
Not really, there was a scenario like the second or
third year of the Big Ten Championship game, back when
they actually had divisions and Ohio State and Penn State
were both on probation and weren't eligible for the game,
and there was a scenario like Indiana could have made
it at seven and five with like three weeks left
(42:48):
to go in the season, and Wisconsin summarily came to
Bloomington and beat them sixty two to ten. So that
was kind of the reminder of, no, this is not
going to happen. So while this is not something that
was even a con up fifteen years ago, the fact
of Indiana being in this position and being number two
in the nation, potentially number one and playing for a
(43:08):
championship and maybe having the Heisman Trophy winner. The line
that I have most frequently used about it is a
Normandale line from Hoosiers, and that's like me and you
going to the moon. That's kind of what this is
with Indiana football.
Speaker 5 (43:22):
I'd like that.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
Yes, a shout out to the movie Hoosiers, a classic.
I've been out there to Knightstown to see the gym
in person. Rake, When you look at the atmosphere that
will be on tap tomorrow here in downtown Indianapolis, You've
been to a lot of big moments for this city,
in this state. How do you expect that to be
with I you Louisville on the hardwood in the early afternoon,
(43:46):
then obviously the big game on the grid iron that night.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
It's not gonna be Super Bowl weekend. I'm not sure
it's going to be closed because that is the Super Bowl.
But if you ask most locals JB about what they remember,
we'll be in here. It's the fact that there was
a quarter of a million people on the Friday night
before the Super Bowl and it was basically Indy Spring,
you know, Indy five hundred. Everybody just went downtown and
(44:14):
they literally if people had to stop, they had to
go to like radio television. People stop going downtown. We
cannot take we're full, don't go. I don't think it's
going to be that I think it's going to be
that level of atmosphere. So think about what would normally
be here, maybe for a final four and double that
(44:34):
or maybe even triple that, because you don't have people
just goes to show up and just want to go
to the party, and I don't blame them, I understand
that completely. So somewhere in the vicinity of what a
five hundred feels like or a final four feels like,
somewhere in the middle of that, I think will be
tomorrow in downtown Indianapolis.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
Rake, speaking of Hoosiers, did I read correctly that there
was like, I don't know, thirty or forty men. It's
cut out of the original movie and they're going to
release that here soon. I don't know what service we
watch it on, But did you hear anything along those lines?
Speaker 3 (45:12):
So I don't think it was thirty minutes. I think
it was closer to fifteen minutes. I think I could
be wrong about that. That did not make the original movie.
I think there is already a director's cut that has
been released, but I think includes it. Maybe I'm wrong
about that. What I can tell you is this the
fortieth anniversary of the release of Hoosiers is next year,
(45:36):
and there's at least going to be one event if not,
a couple or people are gonna be able to see
the full film that has maybe not been available on
a regular basis or shown publicly. So there are plans
in the works for that to take place in the
fall of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
He is Greg Rags. He's with us here on the
Paylost Slickers hotline. Let's rewind to last week, Rake. Obviously,
we had the State finals. I would say the four
A game in particular was a great, great game between
Roncolli and Dwanger. Maybe if I labeled the biggest surprise
from championship weekend across the six classes, you would go where.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
I'm not sure there's one that that would be a
huge surprise. I thought the overarching maybe the scoring in
andre And and Brownstown Central being a score being one score.
Even though Browntown has been good for a long time,
they have never kind of had that breakthrough moments. And
they don't play the toughest of schedules because there's just
(46:35):
simply not that many great schools in football around them.
So the fact I think a lot of folks out
that andre And might thump them just because Andrean does
play a very good schedule, and so that game being competitive,
he was a surprise. Maybe some folks were surprised that
Merrillville was competitive with New Pal for as long as
they were. And again the unfortunately for Meryville, the starting
(46:58):
quarterback gets hurt collar bone injury is what was suspected
and couldn't continue the game, and that will be a
massive what iff or you never know, you know, if
you're from the region and it's it's okay to wonder
about that. Newpal's really damn good. But Marravilla was toe
to toe with them for three quarters and with their
backup quarterback in there for the third of those quarters.
(47:20):
For Newpal, you know, kind of finally pulled away in
that game. So those are the surprises, But to me, Kevin,
the overarching theme was we really gonna have a true blowout.
You know. The largest margin of victory was the first
game with South Puttnam beating you know, Pioneer by twenty
six or twenty nine. But usually in the state files
there's a forty or fifty point game at some point
(47:42):
in time, and we had nothing close to that. So
going in I probably thought that five of the six
game is going to be pretty good, and that's kind
of how it played out last Friday and Saturday.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
Greg, one other thing I want to tie in from
high school football last weekend to Indiana tomorrow, and you
and I both had the opportunity, we're blessed to call
the six a game you on TV meal radio, and
we saw brown Brownsburg's Brandon Sharp just dominate the first
half like few players can. We know that he's getting
all kinds of look from power for schools all over
(48:13):
the place. Has Indiana gotten to the point where that's
the kind of school that a player like Brandon Sharp
would consider moving forward?
Speaker 3 (48:21):
I think so. Uh And and as good as Brandon
Sharp is, I will give you another player that I
think is the true you know, Canary and the coal
Mine has a has a has a negative connotation. I'm
not sure that the Harbinger how about that for a
for a positive connotation? Manchin Sales. He is a five
star recruit. He is rated as the fifth or sixth
(48:44):
best player in his class in the nation. His nickname
is Bema. You know you kind of you know, can
can tell you know the level of talent that he is.
You name the power school he's offered him. But yet
Omar Cooper ell Bybeon Chandler l N both wide receivers
at IU. Before that, Donovan mcully, you know down with
(49:07):
i U was an l N guy. You know, does
a national level recruit in your own backyard? Does that
guy go to Bloomington? That will truly to me. And
again that's the offense to Brandon Sharp, who's really good
and he's gonna play a major college, major level of
college football. But Sales might be the end up being
the top wide receiver in his class in the country.
(49:28):
And does he end up at a place like IU.
If that is the case, then Katie bar the door
for the Hoosiers. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (49:36):
I'm looking at his list of offers right now.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
Indiana is on it, as my Illinois fighting Line are
as well and pretty much every other school in America.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
Yeah. I think the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have made him
an offer. A lot of teams have have offered him
at this point.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
They're gonna add They're gonna add out the Saskatchewan rough Riders,
is what they're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Greg right, correct, Absolutely? Ray?
Speaker 2 (49:56):
Did I see coylein then rep Pad There'll be some
changes to the Mister Football Award? Could you share a
little bit along those lines.
Speaker 3 (50:04):
Yeah, I think what it is is instead of having
just a position finalist, they will change it to maybe
multiple players at a same positioner finalist. And let's be
honest about it, it's because Miles McLaughlin is listed as
a quarterback and Jet Goldsberry is a quarterback, and clearly
they are the two best players in terms of candidates
(50:26):
for this award this season, and it'd be a shame
if one of those guys wasn't a finalist. So yes,
it was a really smart move by the IFCA to
change it, given whom the obvious candidates are for this year.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Got it, so we used to just do top player
at each position now to be more like the Heisman
ceremony where you could have you know, Julian say In
for Nando Mendoza and Diego Pavia all there along with Jeremiah.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
Love direct And again that that change happened. And you
heard me cite this example before when they kind of
had four finalists Bourn in that amazing twenty eighteen class
and George Carl wasn't one of them. And I would
tell people, hey, you can get upset about it being
Jack Ties over David Bell The fact that George wasn't
invited to the party is the much bigger problem. Thankfully,
(51:10):
it seemingly hasn't affected him too much in terms of
his success in the National Football League.
Speaker 1 (51:15):
Last thing for me, Greg Sunday, big opportunity for the Colts.
It's been a while since they've been able to beat Jacksonville.
How does this work if the Coults are going to
come out with a win? Here?
Speaker 3 (51:26):
Jonathan Taylor left, Jonathan Taylor right. You have to be
I understand you have tendencies, and you have this is
the way I want to play. At some point in time,
you have a look around the room and go, hey,
we have to change this up. And again, this is
not a bad football team, the Indianapolis Colts. They're not.
They're just not playing at that same level they were
(51:48):
the first two months of the season. Injuries are a
part of it. Injuries affect every football team. So I
understand establishing throwing the ball first and then trying to
run the ball. I understand you have belief in your offense.
Let's take the opening kickoff. But now things aren't working.
You're losing close games. Now it's the part where you go,
all right, let's change things up. You in the opening
(52:08):
coin toss, defer, don't save Jonathan Taylor in a glass
case for the third quarter. The student body left, student
body right. You may want to break out of nineteen
eighty seven Eric Dickerson game plan if you're the Indianapolis
Colts trying to take some of the pressure off a
quarterback who is clearly one hundred percent but is obviously
your best option at this point in Daniel Jones, Rake.
Speaker 5 (52:31):
Where are you tonight? Are you calling a game?
Speaker 3 (52:34):
I am at the Burge Auditorium at North Central watching
my daughter sing in the accents as part of the
More Joyful Sounds Christmas Show, which is legendary in Washington Township.
Speaker 1 (52:47):
All right, well for yes, so.
Speaker 3 (52:50):
I'll make out for it by doing three games tomorrow.
Why don't you have tonight off?
Speaker 2 (52:53):
So good?
Speaker 1 (52:54):
Goodno for you.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
Let's the schedule tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
So I you Indy at two o'clock as they play
host to Young down State, and then I will have
the last two games of the Sneakers for Santa event
at Brownsburg, which has seven games in total. Tomorrow to
start at ten am. I will have Male High School
out of Louisville versus Pike, and then I will have
Fishers and Mount Vernon, which is likely a clash of
(53:17):
the best team in the state and Fishers and the
best player in this class and the mister basketball heavy
favorite in Purdue bound Luke Hurdle. And that game tips
at about eight fifteen tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
Well, enjoy your daughter's performance tonight. Man, that's cool, Thank
you appreciate it all right, there is Greg greg Straw
joining us on the Payloss Liquors hotline. In fact, next
time you'll have an opportunity to hear him tomorrow morning
Soccer Saturday at nine am. Passion play for him.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
He loves that machine, absolute machine. Greg raychal the energizer Bunny.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
And no question about that. So we talked a little
bit about the cult star towards the end, and Jonathan
Taylor left Jonathan Taylor Wright maybe taking Eric Dickerson page
out of the playbook and just and it gets back
to what I opened the show with, James, I would
love to see the Colts offensive line just punish that
defensive line for the Jaguars and just beat them up
(54:08):
and wear them down over the course of sixty minutes.
Is that possible?
Speaker 4 (54:11):
And give them black eyes and bloody lips. Don't don't
sell yourself short. Let's go, mister Rickard.
Speaker 1 (54:15):
I want him to be sore.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
Does Jacksonville live defensive strength bean stopping the run create
any pause for you, Jeff?
Speaker 1 (54:23):
That's one of the reasons I'd like to see him
just do that and take control of this division, take
control of that matchup, that strength on.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Strength, don't you three eight? A Hey, we should maybe
throw I think you have to see if you work
the weather to the side. No, I get that, But
Jacksonville's strength as a football team, he could really say,
is their run defense, and how their weakness is a
past defense.
Speaker 1 (54:43):
And what better way to establish yourself in the first
court and say we're going to be better at this
than you are today?
Speaker 5 (54:49):
Did Jaguars? I'm looking at it now.
Speaker 4 (54:50):
No player has had seventy rushing yards in a game
against the Jaguars this year have played.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
Jonathan Taylor and Quenton Nelson had a respect go.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
I do think this general discuss is interesting. If you're
Shane Styking again, put the weather to the side. Sounds
like it's gonna be a ton of rain. But the
debate of sure, Jeff, yeah, you would love to establish
a dominance in any time you're playing a big time matchup. Hey,
let's bully them up front, and you know, blah blah blah.
But like on paper it says to throw against Jacksonville,
(55:19):
it doesn't say to run. So I think that is
a very interesting dynamic for Shane stike In. Obviously his
best player is his running back, and Daniel Jones we've
seen some limitations with that passing offense. So uh, that
debate for the Colts offensively, I think is going to
be a really really interesting factor to this game.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Yeah, and I agree with all that, and I understand
one hundred percent what you're saying. I just believe there's
times in an NFL season, in an NFL game, it
is a physical game. Sometimes we talk about and I
don't know if I buy into it completely with Shane
out smarten himself, whatever. Sometimes I am a fan of
just line up me against you. I'm just gonna knock
(56:01):
you back yard and do whatever I want to do.
I think you, at least that is what they said
I on a half, I at least want to see
you give it a shot because I think you had
the personnel that could do that.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
Yeah, it just it hasn't developed here in recent weeks.
You know, that's just been an issue for this team
health wise for the Colts all what fifty two to
fifty three? I guess James practiced yesterday. Now we should
mention obviously to Forrest Buckner and Ashton Dulan are on
IR so they are out. But fifty two of the
fifty three Colts practiced fully yesterday, Sauce Gardner being the
(56:33):
one on the fifty three man roster who has yet
to participate this week. And I thought Daniel Jones looked
better for our audience that has not been with us
yet here on this Friday morning. We've made the analogy.
James Boyd is turning thirty years old today. Mark Dyton
is turning forty years old on Sunday. Last week, I
thought Daniel Jones looked like Mark Dyton getting out of bed.
Speaker 5 (56:52):
This week, I thought he looked.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
Like you getting out of bed, James.
Speaker 4 (56:55):
Yeah, you know, and I wake up doing the electric slides.
So Daniel Jones moving.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
Good to see that, Honestly, I want to see that
when you walk into the studio.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
Toothpaste on the two prone slide.
Speaker 1 (57:06):
In here to your spot when you walk in here
in the morning.
Speaker 5 (57:08):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (57:09):
I like that a lot. But yeah, that game will
be coming up on Sunday. And am I overstating this
James when I say it's almost a must win for
the Colts at this point in time, given the last
three or four weeks and what's ahead, right.
Speaker 4 (57:25):
Yeah, you lose this game, we're talking about will you
make the playoffs?
Speaker 5 (57:29):
Let alone be in the division race?
Speaker 1 (57:31):
And yeah, I still feel good about it.
Speaker 5 (57:33):
If they lose.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
No, I'm talking about I feel good about the Coats
going into this game.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
Oh yeah, he can feel about and say, oh man,
you have the most confident person in love.
Speaker 5 (57:40):
Yeah, you should feel good about it.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
But to Kevin's point, I am curious to see what
the game plan actually looks like because you don't want
to necessarily force something when there's an obvious advantage that
you might have in the passing game. And I see
some of the commiss on YouTube chat say, hey has
warned hit the rookie wall. I don't think so. I
do think that he was sick last week and he
kind of played like it even though he scored a touchdown.
He also had the muff snap there for the lost fumbles.
(58:05):
So perhaps if he feels better, does he help you
get back on track with.
Speaker 5 (58:09):
The passing game.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
Also comments on the text line, DJ and Eddy says,
Caps run the damn ball campaign is back again. To
your point, though, Kevin, it'll be just to see what
the Colts select to do against a top rank.
Speaker 4 (58:22):
Don't run it into a wall. You know, let's get
some variety in there. But it'll probably be a blend
of both. And I do kind of laugh when we
have these conversations onto the air ways because you know,
they are much more in depth over at Westletetic Street.
Speaker 5 (58:36):
It's not just hey, run the ball or pass the ball.
Speaker 4 (58:39):
It's probably a little bit of like, Okay, let's see
what advantages, what looks we can get them into, and
then take advantage from there.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
And again, if the weather plays out, you can't ignore it,
you know that, not at all, no to it. So
something to keep an eye on for Sunday.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
All right, let's check it down, Caleb, and get to
what's happening right here right now. Let's start with tomorrow
nights between number one ranked Ohio State number two ranked
Indiana Lucas Oil Stadium, eight pm. Kickoff. You'll be able
to hear it live right here at ninety three five
and one oh seven to five of the Fame with
our pregame coverage, and Don Fisher is gonna have a
(59:14):
huge day. You'll be able to listen to them play
basketball on WIBC in the afternoon against Louisville at two fifteen,
and then here Don broadcast the game beginning at eight
pm on the fan on Saturday night. What a just
a cool day for Indiana all the way around, Not
so much even for Don, but just for Indiana fans everywhere.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
A dream maya in your state capital to have this
going on. Hell, you can wake up in your own bed,
you can go to sleep in your own bed. It
is about as dream of scenario as you could really imagine.
I think one key we haven't talked about with the
football game tomorrow night. I think one of the most
consistent best aspects to this IU football team this season.
They're rushing attack and Roman Hemby and Kaylon Black. I mean,
(59:55):
they have been a really solid one two punch. Remember
they had the big injury earlier in the year Bebe
and yet that duo and even when the Fisher's kid's
gotten in Martin, He's been pretty good. But you know,
that balance I think is huge. And even when Mendoza's
had a little bit of a slow start to a
game here or there, obviously Sarat has missed some time,
that rushing attack has been really, really consistent. Can they
(01:00:17):
establish that provide some balance against the best defensive college football?
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
Yeah, you know, obviously that secondary is tremendous led by
Caleb Downs, the younger brother of Josh Downs for Ohio State.
But what I like over the last month or so,
Indiana's shown they got three or four guys that can
hurt you receiving with the football. The way they run roots,
the way they get open.
Speaker 5 (01:00:39):
Run roots, is it roots routes?
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
You sound like my kid's making fun of me.
Speaker 4 (01:00:42):
Now, yeah, we're running roots out here. But either way,
roots routes carve them up. Hoosiers get it done. But
on the other side, talk about wide receivers. Boy, Ohio
State is loaded Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith bawlers. So
you want to make sure, I feel like in these
types of games, these matchups, you want to make sure
you don't give up the home run play if they
beat you, so what do they go? You know, eighty
(01:01:04):
yards on fifteen plays. I get it, but boy, it's
always like one or two breakaway plays that can decide
these types of games.
Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Yeah, we talked about that football game Normai. Big day
of college basketball as well. Tomorrow at noon, it'll start
with Iowa State playing at Purdue. That could be a
high scoring basketball game, Kevin. You talk about the fact
Cyclones they just like to fill it up over there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
Yeah, best shooting team in college basketball this season. So
that's a great game right out of the gate. Again,
that'll be on CBS and not you know, I don't
want to get to too carried away with Perdue, but
you know they're able to win that. Auburn doesn't look
like the same old Auburn. This could be another undefeated
non conference schedule in a year when Purdue doesn't hesitate
or shy away from anything from a scheduling standpoint. So again,
(01:01:44):
that'll be at noon. Then you'll get to IU Louisville.
Louisville did lose earlier this week there, so you know,
we talked about it after they awful lost in Minnesota.
Indiana needs substance on the resume, and this is it.
This is a quad one opportunity. You'll get that next
week to facing Kentucky and Rup so important opportunity, especially
after the loss to the Gophers the other night.
Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
In between those two games, Butler will host Boise State.
That one will tip off at one thirty. You can
listen to it live right here on the fan. I
wonder do you think you think Minner will do play
by play of Red Panda Tomay.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
I would love him and Nick Gardner breaking down the unicycle,
breaking down the efficiency of the bulls hell. I would
love a fad Modo just said, you know, halftime speech
will be on on the bench. We got to watch her.
Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
I love the fact that the first time dad wasn't
coaching and took a year off, he and his wife
were at a game where Red Panda showed up and
he's like, wait, this is what happens at halftime of
a basketball game?
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Was in all he said? All he was, I'll take
the bathroom break for the first media time out.
Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
It all was set too high, because that's not every
that's not every day you're getting that.
Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
Yeah, lucky.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
Sunday, we turn our attention to the National Football League.
Talked about it a moment ago, the Indianapolis Colts taking
on the Jacksonville Jaguars, both teams eight and four sitting
atop the AFC South. Colts have lost two and their
last three, And can can you even overstate the importance
of a regular season game and a winner loss for
the Colts right now, James.
Speaker 4 (01:03:02):
No, you really can't. I mean, the numbers are jarring you.
You win this game, you put yourself in the driver's
seat of the AFC South title, your first title in
about ten years, I believe. But if you lose this game,
it goes down to about a coin flip for you
to make the playoffs according to our playoff projection model
with the athletic.
Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
All right, thirty change win or loss.
Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
And that's a lot of it has to do with
your schedule still being very hard and the other schedules
for the Texans and the Jaguars not being a stiff.
Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
Yeah, I can't. Also, just in sheer numbers, a win
for the Colts now, all of a sudden, they're three
to one within the division and you know, now, I'm sorry,
two and one with a division and that that counts
too as you start to move forward. So we'll see
what happens tonight. It'll be the Pacers in Chicago at
eight pm. Ben Shephard will miss that game with Dare
(01:03:51):
I say it, Kevin a calf injury?
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Yeah, and he played and I want to say he
even spoke to the media. It's like he got hurt
in the game the other night against Denver there, so
I assume that means jaris Walker on the starting lineup.
We'll see abou Kobe White. He's been a great player
for the Bulls this season. He missed last meeting with
the Pacers. Remember that was the Siakam game winner over
the weekend here. So Pacers will get a little bit
of time off coming up here that nd season tournament,
(01:04:16):
you know, them not obviously participating in the knockout stage
of it. So we'll see if that coupled with I
think we're kind of nearing that one month timetable with
Aaron E. Smith. I feel like that's on the horizon.
I probably need to double check the dates on that,
so we'll see if there's one last gasp here for
this Pacer Season.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
One NFL game. Last night, the scoreboard was lit up
by the Detroit Lions as they won a home game
over the Dallas Cowboys forty four to thirty on a
night when only Jamar gibbs three touchdown performance may have
been brighter than Brandon Aubrey, the Cowboys kicker who was
just drilling field goals from all over the place last night.
Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
Shout out to Jamiir Jamier Gibbs.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
Ball out.
Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
Did I say he tied Barry Sanders? I believe for
the most touchdowns your career before turning twenty four with
forty seven, and I looked it up. Jamiro Gibbs didn't
turn twenty four until next spring.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
That's crazy.
Speaker 5 (01:05:08):
My record is going down next week.
Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
Yeah he is. Yeah, he is an end zone machine. There.
Good for your fantasy team there. Yeah, high scoring. The
over under was fifty four and a half and seventy
four last night as what hit so quite the high
scoring affair and a big win for Detroit, much much
needed for the Lions and not good at all for
the Cowboys. We have a few of those games this
week Colt jagsby and one of them of these big
(01:05:31):
playoff swing games in both the AFC and the NFC.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
Yeah, if you're looking for college football TV, Tomorrow starts
at noon BYU and Texas Tech for the Big Twelve Championship.
At four o'clock, it's Georgia Alabama for the SEC Championship.
Two games on simultaneously, beginning at eight pm. Yes, the
ACC Championship game will feature basketball schools Duke and Virginia,
while Indiana and Ohio State of course played for the
(01:05:57):
Big Ten championship. But don't forget guys who other conference
championships tomorrow that could gum up the works for you,
depending how things fall. Troy plays James Madison in the
Sunbelt Championship in North Texas against Tulane in the American Championship.
Tell me again, how James Madison could eclipse Notre Dame
getting into the playoffs here? What would have to happen there, Kevin,
(01:06:18):
I know you've thought about these things.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
I have not thought about James Madison.
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
They could slide in depending on how things break out.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Well, yeah, but I don't think I would. I don't
think it's like either James Madison or Notre Dame. Wouldn't
they be an automatic qualifier? Wasn't that how they would
get them? Yeah, it's not like they're not large Notre
Dame is trying to be at large. Try to speak, Jeff,
I got enough things to worry about. I can't be
worried about James Madison and Troy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
I just wanted to see the look out of your
eyes got really wide when I started to.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Talk about we had me confuse there for a second.
Is there are you onto something? I need to be
paying attention.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
It's just that the only possible domino that could go
down is that only so many spots start to go
back from the Dame. It doesn't really involve James Madison
all that much, but it's either.
Speaker 5 (01:07:00):
With the automatic I wanted to get confused.
Speaker 1 (01:07:02):
I wanted to get you on the edge of your seat.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Well, now you have me confused. I'm going to need
to take a bathroom.
Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
I'm playing games over here. I apologize, So games, this game,
anything else you want to throw in before we get
going here?
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Our World Cup draw at noon for our soccer crew
out there. We'll find out what it looks like for
the United States coming up, as they will host the
World Cup in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
All right, we will continue talking about some of these
big games coming up. In a moment, I want to
get your thoughts on both games. Give me your your
double dose of prediction here for Saturday night with the
Big Ten Championship and Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville. Two three, nine,
ten seventy on the fan text line, we got Matt
Taylor coming up the top of the hour and tell
us more about that matchup. It's all straight ahead at
(01:07:44):
ninety three five and one seven. You made it a Friday,
and we are a day closer to the Big Ten
Conference Championship game, a day closer to the Colts and
the Jaguars, and a day closer to a monumental sports weekend. Uh.
And I say that to punt intended here as we
sit atop the circle for the last week before we
moved to the brand new studios just up the road here.
(01:08:06):
But man, oh man, oh man, it's just every time
I think that things are going to get better or
it couldn't possibly be better for sports in this area,
it just one ups itself. Kevin, and I pinched myself
the fact that we get to experience all this, Think
of all the things we've been able to experience just
in the less decade in this place.
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
Yeah, pretty amazing. I mean honestly, when you look at
the last twelve months especially, Yeah, it's wild, and you know, honestly,
so much of it. I think you want just to
have appointment events in your own city, and we have
been blessed with so many of them. And Saturday Night
involves another with the team in your state. I think
(01:08:46):
that's the unique nature to it. It's not just having
the Big Ten championship. It's the fact that you've got
one of your state schools there. It looks like the
secondary ticket market has maybe leveled out a little bit here,
so I'm still seeing here on stubub Cheapest is about
seven hundred to get in the building there.
Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
I did see six fifteen earlier this morning for a
single ticket, like in the upper six hundred level.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Would you do that? Are you a big enough sports
fan of any team to sit alone?
Speaker 6 (01:09:12):
That's one of my sports hot takes, Kevin. I think
as long as you're in the building, I don't think
people ever really are a stickler about asking you, oh,
where did you sit? If you can just say you
were there, Like for me, for instance, twenty eighteen Calves
Versus Raptors Eastern Conference Semifinal, I see a Lebron buzzer beater.
Was I sitting as you guys talking about yesterday next
to God?
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:09:33):
I was, but I was there to see an awesome moment.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
What about a couple. I'd love the line sitting next
to God, but I do I can't see in me
same way man National Title game. I was there alone.
Call me Stephen Glandsburg. I was sitting there alone, but
at least well no name didn't win.
Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
But I'd get a single ticket, I really will.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
I would do that, Yeah, because I feel like if
you love it that much to do it, especially for
a game like this, you're going to be in an
environment where everyone else is there for that reason, no
casual watching type of stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Are we partners with any secondary ticket markets.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
Jeff, Not that I'm aware of.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
It looks like on seat geek, it's a little cheaper.
Six twelve okay, solo ticket end zone here road twenty eight?
Is that the highest row in the building? Section six
twenty seven?
Speaker 4 (01:10:16):
I would imagine. Yeah, anytime you get start with the
section six. Yeah, you're Europe asking you to lock the window?
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Hey yeah, hey, Haleb zuver over there, will you locked
the window for us? Balls about to.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Be some are you the best seat in the house
because you get you know, when you pray, you a
little closer, your prayers direct.
Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
Con You can't face to face conversation right there.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
Now, not to like I want to.
Speaker 4 (01:10:39):
I want to be face to face now, you know,
I want to see Jesus years from now.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
But I was, you know, maybe get our people that
have already thought this. You know, I've I'm trying to think.
I've been inside of Lucasholl Stadium as a fan of
a of a football game for not many of them,
Notre Dame Perdue whenever. That was back a decade ago.
But I was told that one of the the smart
things to do is to try to get a table
in the bud light zone, so you can maybe get
(01:11:05):
like the highest ticket in the house. But if you're able,
and you got to probably get in pretty early, but
if you get in when the gates open, you secure
a table in that bud light zone, then you're able
to maybe view it from you know, a little bit
of a better level. So I don't know if I
if that's maybe that's not news.
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
Going back to what you said, though, I have seen
groups of guys three four five a couple of times
over the years that will go to like a super
Bowl together. They get individual tickets, so they go and
they do their party for a couple of hours before
the game. They might get together again at halftime, and
(01:11:44):
then they leave the game together as well, even though
they're sitting at different points in the stadium, so there
they are kind of going as a group, but they
are sitting by them.
Speaker 4 (01:11:51):
So that is the most guys going to the super
Bowl's a little different answer.
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Well, sometimes it's about the tickets you can get though, James,
is my point. But you were talking terrible.
Speaker 5 (01:12:01):
Planning on that group.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
You you get in there, if you're going to the
super Bowl, you get planned on sitting together.
Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
The plan is you paid figty five hundred dollars for
a ticket or seven hundred dollars for a ticket is
a difference. There are there really super Bowl tickets that
talking about Back in the day when I win.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
I feel like that was going on. There's a comma
involved in all of them.
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:12:20):
I remember going to a super Bowl once with my
dad and he said, uh, enjoy this. This is the
last time you and I will ever be able to
afford to go to a game again.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
One thing to note, James, you brought up cold schedule
in the previous segment. Again, hardest schedule in the NFL left,
or so they say. At Jacksonville at Seattle home to
San Francisco. That's the Monday night game home to Jacksonville
again to close out December. And then week eighteen, the
season finale is in Houston. That's five games. I think
(01:12:48):
if they go two and one in the three AFC
South games, they're good. I agree, those are the big ones.
If the three AFC South games at Jacksonville Sunday, you
close out the year with Jacksonville again in your own building,
and then at Houston, if you go two and one
in those three, you're in. I want to say you
win the division. I don't think I can say it
(01:13:10):
just yet, but I think you're definitely in because you know,
right now, with three AFC South teams all above five hundred,
you know even the runner up is obviously going to
be competing for the wildcard spot. So I would think
two and one given the tiebreaker situations. Yeah, obviously if
that one loss is Houston, for example, that means Houston
(01:13:30):
has swept you this season. They have the head to
head so maybe you wouldn't win the division title, but
I still think from a record standpoint, that would mean
you would sweep Jacksonville, so you'd be likely above them.
That would help you out in the wildcard department there.
So again, the five game schedule is daunting, but if
you want to boil it down to the AFC South
(01:13:50):
games two and one two and one, now that means
you got to win one on the road, either Sunday
or either the season finale in Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
Houston, by the way, this is their schedule moving forward.
They play at Kansas City this week. They play at
home against the Cardinals, home against the Raiders at the Chargers,
and then against the Colts. Easy, but it's not murderers
Row either.
Speaker 6 (01:14:18):
I think there's so many different teams that are in
the in line for this these last couple spots that
the tiebreakers too. Like the headheads, like Houston versus Kansas
City is not only big for both of those teams,
but like whoever wins that's gonna have a tiebreaker. The
Colts division games even with Houston Jacksonville, like one of
them is obviously gonna win the division.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
But say Houston wins it.
Speaker 6 (01:14:40):
Colts are gonna have a tie breaker against the Jaguars
that needs to be decided. Like all the It's gonna
get real interesting, it's gonna get real tight, and there's
gonna be a lot of teams vying for only a
few spots.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
You kind of think that Houston's gonna get Kansas City's
absolute best this week. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:14:59):
How many times we said the Kansas City look all that,
the Colts blew it and then they got beat by
the Cowboys. So I don't fear them, But I do
think Kansas City's offense will put some pressure on Houston
because Houston has been winning in spite of their offense,
I think to a degree. So we'll see how that
shakes out.
Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
It's in Kansas City. Is that that give you a knee?
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
No, I was. I went to Kansas City and saw them.
They do not scare me like they did in the past.
They're flawed, their flawed team and their defense isn't all
that great. I looked at some of their numbers as
far as like blitzes and stuff like that. They were
like the best blitzing team in the league the last
three or four years. They're horrendous this year. They can't
generate pressure without a blitz and then they're not blitzing
(01:15:39):
grades as it is.
Speaker 1 (01:15:40):
Yeah, just six and six so far. So Yeah, it's
one of those things where Houston could kind of put
them to bed at the end of the day, but
then Houston goes to seven and six if Kansas City
does win and whoever wins between you know, the Colts
and the and the Jaguars, Now.
Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
We got to get off put Kansas City to bed
train that that can't be a priority for Colts fan.
You are no, you want toy Sunday night. Yeah, period,
I know you want to get greedy and whatever. No,
you're you're not in that boat. You've made the bed
that you've.
Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
You're not impressed figuring out a way for both of
them to lose everything a few weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
No, you cannot be that greedy. That sounds like you
sit on Santa's lap and say you want to you know,
lake House.
Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
You don't. Hey, you're talking to Santa. Y ask for everything,
don't you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
Well, I'm gonna be you don't get it in this.
Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
Way you asked for it. Uh So that's what's going
on coming up this weekend. We'll talk more about IU
Ohio State. Get some of your feedback in a moment
as well. Phone lines open two three nine ten seventy.
You can say how to kleb and then talk to us,
or just to send us a note in the text
line of two three nine ten seventy there as well.
Speaker 5 (01:16:43):
It's all the question, yes after the break, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
I can't wait to hear it next. Mark's in danger.
Caleb's fitting the discs this morning, man, I like.
Speaker 6 (01:16:56):
It forever, young man.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
It's James and Mark.
Speaker 4 (01:16:58):
Right, I know, yeah, happy, hope, and I can stay young.
I'm hoping you'll go more gray hairs than you will
waken up this morning.
Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
Have you got a text from anybody in your family
yet this morning?
Speaker 5 (01:17:11):
Nah?
Speaker 4 (01:17:12):
I texted my sister at midnight there an hour earlier
in Chicago.
Speaker 5 (01:17:16):
So we do that as twins. That's about it.
Speaker 4 (01:17:18):
They know not to blow up my phone because I
gotta get up early, so I will talk to all
of them later today.
Speaker 1 (01:17:24):
Big three to zero.
Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
Man, it is funny, though I am not really like
the Facebook. Go on the page and give a shout out.
I appreciate those who do it, but yeah, there's probably
a zero percent chance I respond to all of them.
I just you know, put the post out there. Thank
you for the time. But it is cool to get
recognized a little bit, I guess. But I have a
question though. Yeah, that's not related to that as far
as birthdays go. So you know, we've talked a lot
(01:17:47):
about the defense and how they're not being hold Kevin
pretty much since they made the Sauce Gardner trade.
Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
And who do you think has been or.
Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
Will be a bigger loss for this team moving forward
over the next couple of weeks. I know the Forest
Buckner can come back next week technically, but with Sauce
now sideline to Forrest Buckner out, who's the bigger loss?
And I say this because the thinking going into this
(01:18:19):
season was Cheveriu's war will be your number one cornerback
and then you would have two number ones.
Speaker 5 (01:18:24):
But he hasn't looked like it. So has your feelings
changed it all?
Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
As far as who perhaps is more important, because I
don't know if I trust Schavari's ward as much as
I did let's say week one or two of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:18:37):
Yeah, that's a really good point. I do think I
have a little bit more of a pause to answering
the question because of what you just laid out there
of the cornerback play, specifically ward here of the last
few weeks, I still am gonna go Buckner just because
I think he is so impactful, not only up front,
but I think the trickle down effect is and I
get you could say something similar about Sauce, and I
(01:19:00):
do think he also impacts your back end and how
long they have to hold up. You know, I look
at this defense the last two weeks, and I know
Matt Taylor's going to join us in ten. He'll probably
have some more numbers on this. But James, they've been
on the field for over one hundred and seventy snaps
the last two games. For maybe that number doesn't resonate
totally with our audience. That is an insane number. One
(01:19:22):
hundred and seventy total snaps the last two weeks.
Speaker 4 (01:19:26):
I was literally, you play about sixty to give you
some kind of sixty to seventy.
Speaker 2 (01:19:30):
In the game, and some games honestly not even sixty.
You know, more in the in the fifties. So when
you look at the last two weeks, basically there's been
twenty real drives. I don't count kneel down at the
end to have some real drives. Twenty real drives for
the Colts defense. Nine of the twenty have been double
digit play drives by the opponent. So while the defense
(01:19:51):
has done a great job, which should be pointed out
and keeping them out of the end zone, there's only
three touchdowns allowed in the last two weeks. The problem
with allowing these double digit play drives inevitably, what does
that mean? It means that they're flipping the field. They
are creating field position in their favor, and so now
your offense has to drive how long? You know, instead
(01:20:12):
of maybe creating a little bit of a short field,
you're asking more out of your offense, and you know,
certainly your offense has not played complimentary football enough for you.
I don't want to act like the defense deserves some
massive amount of blame, but I just tend to think
that if you had to force Buckner out there one
of these last two games, he makes a third down
stop that wins the game. And that third down stop
(01:20:33):
might be in the middle of the third quarter right
or the middle of the second quarter, But when he
makes you know, there was that play where CJ. Stroud
on Sunday, James, the two ends kind of collapse on Stroud.
It almost looks looked like a Stroud sandwich. And next thing,
you know, he just kind of wiggles his way through there,
dumps it to I don't know, Schultz or Higgins or somebody,
(01:20:54):
and it turned into a third down pickup. And it's
like that little play. I look at Buckner as a
guy that finishes that play. You know, we talked about
a lot too, a lot in the last hour not
finishing enough. To me, Buckner would be that guy. So
it's a great question. You know, I certainly don't want
to ignore Sauce by any means, and I do think
Ward has struggled, but I'd go with number ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
And I do love that that observation about flipping the
field too, because he even looked back at the very
end of the game against Houston, Colts moved the ball
on that last drive, but they they came up just short.
What about the thirty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
And where that drive start? I mean, you were, you know,
pretty packed up, you know to start that drive. One
thing to note and James is simply us just putting
on our observational hats. We were out there at Colts
practice yesterday. They wore indoors at practice. We did see
Blake Groupie kick for the Colts. Someone did point out
he's wearing Adi Mitchell's old number. You could look at
(01:21:51):
that as a positive, right Jeff. After the game, Adie
Mitchell just.
Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
Had Adi Mitchell for president. Right now, let's just.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Going to say, there you go, Blake Groupy. I thought
kicked the ball pretty nicely seven for seven when we
were out there, Some very short kicks, some very long kicks,
and I thought the ball and you know, I just
sound like an idiot trying to dissect kicking. I thought
the ball had a nice little pop off the five
to seven and fifty six pounders foot, not Spencer Strader pop,
(01:22:17):
to be clear. But I don't think Michael Badgeley pop either.
Somewhere maybe in the middle.
Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
It's amazing that he can do what he does at
his size. Football teams are some of the more unique
cast of characters you'll ever see.
Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
Like that man is next to the Forest Buckner in
the locker.
Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
They play the same sport technically, which is crazy, but
a lot is being put on him to one deliver
in the normal moment.
Speaker 5 (01:22:44):
Which is the Pats.
Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
But also, hey, you might not get in the end
zone fully every single drive Sunday like you were the
first month of the season.
Speaker 5 (01:22:53):
Can you put some points on the board for him?
Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
So Buckner has Blake Groupie by a full foot right
on the roster, six seven to five, and Buckner's listed,
know what, Caleb, but you look up to four as
Buckner's hything away. I'm the guest two ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
Five what probably six y five.
Speaker 2 (01:23:08):
Hopefully six seven six seven, Yeah, And I don't say
that for kids in the car right now, sorry, parents.
A full foot on Blake Groupie. And what's his weight?
You say one fifty six for Groupie Buckner, I want
to say, is about two ninety five three hund oh
is he three hundred?
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
I wanted a round down one forty five so they'd
be double.
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
So three hundred to one fifty six. So that's what
one hundred and forty four pounds, one foot and one
hundred and forty four pounds bigger than his teammate.
Speaker 5 (01:23:36):
And they play the same sport fast.
Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
Naylor's incredible Coming up next, Taylor's Tidbits. Matt Taylor, the
Voice of the Indianapolis Coults at ninety three five and
one O seven to five.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
The fan.
Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
Better get on board, KYLEB. Caleb, let's go. I can't
even speak this way, like not the Colts.
Speaker 5 (01:23:59):
Small to say this way, you get some money. Then
I was gonna.
Speaker 4 (01:24:04):
I was to drop the viol Jackson, we're in the
building here.
Speaker 6 (01:24:08):
I didn't know Kaylen was in the morning.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
Shout to he. You've been knocking it out of the
park this morning, my man, good job out of you.
Speaker 6 (01:24:15):
Need some more birthday songs. Need people to drop some
birthday songs in the chat. I'm running out of ideas here.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Past the obvious like Beatles right, Today's birthday we.
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
Want I could have played I can play that as well.
Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
All right, h We are always celebrating the arrival of
our next guest here. He is the voice of the
Indianapolis Colts, good friend of the show, good friend of
the station, good friend to everybody. It's Matt Taylor on
the Payless Liquors hotline. Uh are you gonna wish Happy
birthday to James this morning?
Speaker 3 (01:24:42):
Happy Birthday, James. I did not realize this, man. I
feel I feel crummy. I apologize James, Happy birthday, and Caleb,
well done with the ojy's on the re entry. My friend,
you got everybody fired up on a Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
Thank everybody some warmth on a very cold Friday morning
here in the Circle City. Happy birthday, brother, much appreciated.
Speaker 5 (01:25:02):
I'm very disappointed.
Speaker 4 (01:25:03):
How to get a text from you from the first
time you woke up and opened your eyes this morning.
Speaker 5 (01:25:06):
My mother does with me, but I'll let you slide.
Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
Hey, kids, before I say a word to you, I
need a text, James boyd.
Speaker 5 (01:25:13):
Well, No, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:25:14):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:25:14):
You guys make the work day of the birthday pretty fun.
Speaker 3 (01:25:18):
No, absolutely, brother, No, that's all me, dude. I feel
like I said, I feel bad man, because grubly I'm
on top of that stuff. But you're definitely in the
circle of trust. Right back in the day the t Mobile, you're.
Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
In my five.
Speaker 4 (01:25:32):
The Voice of the Gold he is Matt Taylor. Anybody
under fifteen is gonna know. Probably twenty he's gonna know
what he's talking about. I'm gonna say, definitely older than fifteen.
He will give us his Taylor's tidbits, colts and jags.
Coming up on Sunday, Matt Taylor, I want to start
here though you are a big time I you football fan,
but I want to play it from the Don Fisher
side of it. Two o'clock game Bridge Field House tomorrow,
(01:25:53):
I you Louisville, and then Fish slides over to Lukasol
Stadium for the eight o'clock kick. Have you ever had
a day like that? And I guess what would your
preparation look like?
Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
Are you just throat lozengering up, not talking to a
single soul between four o'clock and seven thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Well, it's more it's you know, it's more about like
the week of Like I think Don's week this week
has got to be pretty crazy because remember he was
probably out of pocket, you know, for like a day
and a half because they had that basketball game in Minnesota.
Oh that's right, yeah too, So his week of preparation
has to be I've been there, you know. I think
(01:26:31):
the closest thing to that has to be, you know,
back in the day when I was doing high school
basketball in high school football at the same time, you know,
a couple of basketball games the week of Thanksgiving week
with state championship game, football games, you know, whatever it
was back in the day, you know, five or six
games in the course of you know, four or five days,
and that's what Don's going through right now. But I mean,
(01:26:53):
every I you sports fan is relishing this opportunity for
a guy like Don Fisher to be on the biggest
stage and to have these moments and to have some
signature calls coming up in the next forty eight hours,
So really really cool stuff for him. So I'm sure
he's had a lot of late nights, and I'm sure
his organization and his prep has been tested, but he's
(01:27:16):
still a total pro, still getting it done, and you know,
it's going to be really exciting. But there's no question
that he's going to have to compartmentalize and memorize a
lot of names and numbers and figures and keep it
all straight. And some of the biggest athletic moments that
Indiana University sports basketball and football has experienced in the
(01:27:37):
last couple of years, there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 1 (01:27:39):
Matt Taylor joining us on the Paylist Lickers Hotline this morning.
You ready to get to it, my man.
Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
I'm ready, all right, go Caleb, Let's go, all right,
let's talk about how big of a game. This is
in week number fourteen. I don't know if you guys
saw it. I saw it, so you guys probably saw it.
The Jaguars on social media, they've already proclaimed this is
their biggest regular season game in franchise history. You've got
two eight and four teams squaring off in Week fourteen,
(01:28:08):
only four games to play after this upcoming Sunday and
Sunday's game. It's gonna mark just the third regular season
game hosted in the city of Jacksonville in December or
January where both teams playing in the game have a
winning percentage of six sixty six or higher. The Jacksonville
(01:28:30):
is surging. They've won three in a row. The Coats
have hit a few hurles lately. They dropped three of
their last four. The Jags look like they're heading the
right direction from a franchise standpoint under first year head
coach Liam Cohen, who, by the way, prior to this
year has never been a head coach at any level
you know as a coach. But they're looking to pull
(01:28:51):
off the worst to first. At least one NFL team
has gone worse to first, winning its division to season
and after finishing tyor in last place in twenty of
the last twenty three NFL season, so Jacksonville looking to
do that this year. They were four and thirteen last year.
(01:29:12):
They've already doubled up their win total from twenty twenty four,
and it's a franchise that's made the postseason just four
times in the last twenty years, So there's no question
they're going to be hungary coming up on Sunday. And
I think one of the areas where the Colts need
to get back to prowess is running the football. But
that's going to be tough on the Jaguars because they
(01:29:34):
have held their last three opponents to under seventy rushing
yards and their defense currently leads the NFL giving up
only eighty two rushing yards per game. They've given up
less than a thousand rushing yards on the season so
far through twelve games. That's not great news for Jonathan
Taylor because he's played the Jaguars four times in his
(01:29:56):
career down at EverBank Stadium, and he's average just forty
three rushing yards a game in North Florida against the
Jaguars three times. He's been held to under sixty yards
on the road against the Jags. Now the Colts that
got to find a way to get that running game
going on Sunday, because this is going to be good
on good. The Colts have forty four carries of over
(01:30:18):
ten yards on the season, that is fourth most in
the NFL. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have allowed just twenty four
yards over ten or twenty four carries I should say
over ten yards. That's the fourth fewest so far in
the NFL. So I don't think the offense for the
Colts is nearly as dependent on Jonathan Taylor as it
(01:30:38):
has been in years past, but there's no question that
Taylor is still the biggest piston inside this engine offensively
for the Colts. Case in point there, the Colts are
six and oh this season when Taylor has at least
ninety rushing yards, but they're two to four this year
when he's less than that, and he's got less than
(01:30:59):
ninety yards in all three of their losses here recently.
And then the last thing I want to point out,
the Taylor tidbit, You got to keep Daniel Jones clean,
all right. The Colts that they've averaged, or they did,
average thirty three points a game in the first eight
weeks of the season. That numbers down to twenty one
points per game in the last four but Daniel Jones'
numbers have been controlled in that time as well. So
(01:31:21):
you look at his last four games a quarterback for
Daniel Jones, He's got an eighty six point six passer rating,
sixty one percent completion percentage, six touchdowns, four interceptions, and
he only has one rushing touchdown. And he's taken thirteen
sacks in the last month of the season. Now, Jacksonville
on defense, they only have twenty four sacks on the season,
(01:31:43):
but that's a little bit deceptive because they've got sixteen
of those sacks since Week nine, which are fifth most
in the NFL in that span. So teams are going
to keep coming after the Colts. They're going to send
those extra rushers until the Colts can prove they can
gash it for big plays and put up a big
point total and get a win doing it. And it
(01:32:05):
starts up front with great protection. Then it's Daniel Jones
needing to recognize where the pressure is coming from, get
the ball out on time. And then lastly, I think
Colts receiver is they got to do a better job
of winning on the outside, winning their one on one matchups,
getting free releases, getting open to make big plays outside
the numbers, or wherever that blitz is coming from from
(01:32:25):
the defense. Obviously, it's much easier said than Donefellas, but
I think big picture, the Colts are going to continue
to see that, you know whatever, it is a fact
simile of what they've endured in the recent past, until
they prove they have a winning formula to beat it
and hopefully kind of lessen the amount of pressures they're
seeing in the face of Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
Excellent per usual from Matt Taylor. The are the tailor's tidbits.
I wanted to go back to the run game element
map because we had this discussion a little bit earlier
in the show, and you know, one constant I do
feel like has been truth out this streak down there
is I think Jacksonvilles D line has gotten the better
of the Colts O line. And you point out the
run game has not gotten going for the Colts lately,
(01:33:07):
and considering the weather, you would think that would be
the blueprint. But that is what Jacksonville does stop really well.
That's probably their greatest strength as a football team is
their run defense on paper, so much of what points
to you throw against them. But right, you know, again
that's going against Jonathan Taylor and potentially against the weather.
(01:33:27):
So I think that's a very interesting dilemma for Shane
Steich and heading into Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
Yeah, and it's gonna be sloppy too, right, I mean,
it's supposed to rain. There's like a ninety four percent
chance of rain. I don't know if that's going to
be consistently throughout the course of the day, but I
think you're gonna have precipitation and it's going to impact
the field, which impacts the footing. So that might be
a little bit of advantage for the Colts and the trenches.
You know, maybe that lessons you know, the Jaguars ability
(01:33:54):
to stop the run. I mean, I think that I
don't think the Colts are going to run wild in
this game, you know, for something crazy like two hundred yard,
but maybe if they can get north of the ridiculous
eighty two that the Jaguars are giving up, that would
be beneficial. Jacksonville's just a really mysterious team, and I
think Liam Cohen kind of said it best because a
lot of people are looking at you know, how they've
(01:34:15):
done it, and it's not really flashy. You know, eight
and four is eight and four. But Liam Cohen just said,
like that team down there just has an edge about it, right.
They've got like a tough DNA makeup collectively as a group,
and you know, it kind of defies logic a little
bit because you know, you look offensively Trevor Lawrence, he's
not having you know, a sensational individual statistical season. You know,
(01:34:39):
like it sounds cliche, we say it all the time,
but I think it's true. Like a lot of teams
go as their starting quarterback goes. Well, if that were
true for the Jacksonville Jaguars, they should be four and eight,
not eight and four based on the season that Trevor
Lawrence has had. And another thing that's really weird about
their offense, and I think I pointed it out with
Jake yesterday, is that concerning going into this game for
(01:35:02):
the Colts because of what has happened the last two
games where the Chiefs and Texans have really ball controlled
the Colts to the tune of seventy seven minutes a
time of possession combined. The Jaguars are eighth and time
of possession, but they're twenty sixth and third down conversion rate,
Like I don't know how those two things can exist
at the same time, Like, how can you hold on
(01:35:23):
to the ball for that long but be that that
on third down? Like it just doesn't compute. But if
you look deeper, the defense is getting a lot of takeaways.
They're really good against the run. They're getting the ball
back in the hands of the offense pretty quick, so
that's kind of how they're doing it. So they're not flashy,
you know. Even in a big win last week against
Tennessee where they had seven punts and five three and outs,
(01:35:45):
they were still able to win by twenty two points.
So I think collectively, it's just a tough you know,
it's a tough team. They're very aggressive in how they play,
and obviously for the Colts, it's a difficult place to
play down at EverBank Stadium. And now you're going to
have a weather component to it as well. On Sunday, May.
Speaker 5 (01:36:01):
Do you burn some sage before you head down to Jacksonville?
Speaker 1 (01:36:04):
How does that work?
Speaker 3 (01:36:05):
You know? Like it really is so confusing because again
I say this with all due respect, you know, to
the Jaguars, because they they're the ones that have actually
done it. They've won nine in a row, so there's
something to it. But you know, EverBank Stadium, God bless it.
It's it's it's getting renovated and it's going through a
massive facelift for a reason. It's it's not an intimidating
(01:36:28):
place to play. You know, the Jaguars fans are great,
but it's not like Lambeau or Foxborough. Uh, it's just
I don't know what it is. Boys like there is
there is a curse in that building for this team,
and Kevin you mentioned it. You know that the line
of scrimmage has really been routinely controlled by Jacksonville historically.
Down there. Another thing that's popped up, and I know
(01:36:49):
we've talked about this in years past, is just turnovers.
The Colts have lost nine in a row to Jacksonville
on the road, and seven of those nine games they've
lost a turnover battle and their turnover differential for the
Colts is minus thirteen in those nine games. So you
don't really have to be a football savant to understand
why the Colts have routinely gotten on the plane in
North Florida and then flown back in pretty somber mood.
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
You go with David Busters tomorrow night to watch the game.
Speaker 3 (01:37:16):
Man, I don't know what I'm going to do. I
know I've got two friends coming down that are going
to be celebrating their fortieth birthday parties. So I'm going
to hit up with them and kind of latch on
to see what they want to do and where they
want to go. But I'm going to be front and
center somewhere watching that game. And that's the most disappointing
part about the IU football fan and the job that
(01:37:37):
I have is because every year, I know where I'm
not going to be this time of year, and that's
in Indianapolis because Lucas Oil Stadium is always hosting the
Big Ten championship game. And I've never really been bummed
out about it because my team's never been at it
until now. And so if there ever was a time
where I kind of lament, you know, the Colts being
on the road, it would be this this Saturday. But
(01:37:59):
I'll be watching from a far and uh, I can't
wait for it. It's it's it's such a special time,
as Jeff said, to be you know, an Indiana sports fan.
Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
Now you told me a few weeks back, fortieth birthday
parties are no joke, right, I.
Speaker 3 (01:38:11):
Mean they're kind of like they're kind of like bachelorette
and bachelor parties, like everybody tries to like one up
each other, and everybody feels they like they have to
go big, and to be honest with you, it's kind
of putting a strain on my wallet a little bit
because everybody wants to go do a dinner, or go
out of town or do Vegas or get a party bus.
And I'm like, we're forty, not twenty, Like I want
(01:38:32):
to be in bed by ten thirty, and I got
two kids at home, and I know you do too, right,
So it's like, what are we trying to do here?
But uh yeah, well, I mean I do, don'tut.
Speaker 5 (01:38:45):
You can pinch him later, Maye.
Speaker 3 (01:38:46):
I know, I know.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
I mean he started with the financial aspect. I can
totally understand that, and then he said I want to
be in bed vibe.
Speaker 5 (01:38:53):
Yeah, mate, you got to hit it with the cloud.
What's that? Coach? College goes, Oh, man, I'm forty. That's
what you gotta tell you right here?
Speaker 3 (01:39:01):
Just I need it, you know what you're right, I
need to beat my own ass after Uh I went
on that that rant right there. But I mean it
is fun. It's kind of like high school football open
house or high school graduation open house. You know everybody's
doing one, and it's great. You want to celebrate everybody,
but uh, you know everybody you know, and you're like
inner circle friend circles turning forty all at the same time,
(01:39:22):
and uh, it's it's it's fun. You get to see everybody.
But uh, there's no question everybody's trying to find something
new and different. You'll get there one day, Kevin, give
it about four or five. You'll know exactly what I'm
talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
Right around the corner.
Speaker 1 (01:39:34):
Throw one back for James tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:39:37):
Hell yeah, I one back for all of you.
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:39:41):
Make it to the you're there to call the game, mate.
Speaker 3 (01:39:45):
I don't I don't discriminate, Jeff.
Speaker 2 (01:39:47):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (01:39:47):
I like that's one of the things I love about you. Many.
Have fun this week and enjoy the game, stay healthy,
travel safe, and let's get at w Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):
You got it, my friends. I'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
All right, Matt, there is the one, the only man.
Taylor May Tay we call them here only pay less
Liquors hotline. I didn't. I didn't realize so many people.
I mean, everybody has birthdays every day, but in our
little world here a little circle to get everybody's having
a birthday right now.
Speaker 2 (01:40:12):
That might be the truest statement you've ever made. Every
day every.
Speaker 4 (01:40:16):
Day, but I'm saying, in our little role, we need
that audio.
Speaker 1 (01:40:20):
But don't feel special, James, No, I.
Speaker 5 (01:40:22):
Don't feel special at all.
Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
I told you my birthday gets over signed by the
person I share wish out to my sister.
Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
They should carry Don Fischer in like a throng from
gamebridge Field House over to Lucasoil Stadium, like have the
IU fans just carry them on one of those like
something you see like in a foreign country in these
parades or something. You know, I carry them down Georgia.
Speaker 4 (01:40:40):
How does you think the fans would be one, honored
enough drunk enough to do it?
Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
Yes, honored and drunk enough key two key ingredients for that.
Speaker 1 (01:40:50):
Also, I'd actually watch put it up on my computer.
On the side, I would love to see like just
this video stream of Fish calling this game Saturday night.
That'd be fun. You know, you get to see the
clips every once in a while.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
Who does a great job of that is Matt Taylor.
Usually we get, you know, a post game clip or
two from him and seeing the raw emotion of is
it him and Joe Rights again on Sunday? I think
it's road give for road game here, but yeah, him
and coach Van Tarry at the home games. And whether
it's Joe Wrights or Charles our Buckle on the road games,
all right.
Speaker 1 (01:41:21):
Let's check it down, Caleb lead story this morning. James
Boyd thirty years old today. You made it, my man.
Speaker 4 (01:41:36):
Yeah, I mean, the only other option was to not
make it. So I'm glad I'm here.
Speaker 1 (01:41:42):
Happy birthday to you and your twin sister today and
anybody else who's celebrating out there to that. I don't discriminate, James.
We've got IU Ohio State coming your way tomorrow night,
number one versus number two, eight pm, Lucas Oil Stadium.
You can listen to it right here on ninety three
five and one oh seven five the Fan. And it
comes down to this, I think for IU football fans,
(01:42:03):
Kevin Bowen and we've seen a lot of it on
the text line today. I know, we know what Indiana
has become. We've seen them go toe to toe with
everybody this year. We saw them win the line of
scrimmage against a team like Oregon on the road. Do
you believe that they are ready to play on the
big stage against the big boys tomorrow night? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
I mean, I you know, look at the Vegas line,
it's four points. You know, people are asking the YouTube
chat like David versus Goliath. I just don't view it
in that light. I don't think Indian like one versus
two here, not one versus fifteen or anything like that.
You know, James, you brought up yesterday with Ohio State.
It's something I say quite often. You know, when you
(01:42:42):
do see teams that have had impressive seasons, which obviously
Ohio State has had put game pressure on them, they
have not been in competitive fourth quarters. They haven't really
played a competitive schedule. If you really want to get
nitpicky with then in something that is to do with
the Big Ten in Texas not being as great of
a team as I think people thought they would be.
So if Indiana could create those moments in the fourth quarter,
how does Julian say and react to it? So, you know,
(01:43:06):
I think that'll be something to watch. But again, it's
house money. It's beautiful. The great thing about it is
even if you get if you lose forty to nothing
tomorrow night, three weeks from now, you'll play for a
trip to go to the final four of the national
you know, college football playoff. That's a pretty darn good
alternative prize.
Speaker 1 (01:43:23):
Side note the two quarterbacks playing tomorrow saying in Mendoza,
does the winner of this football game, then one of
the better stats win the Heisman Trophy.
Speaker 5 (01:43:31):
I don't know, is it the Vanderbilt kid like high end, Yeah, Diego.
Speaker 2 (01:43:34):
Pavia's odds are really up there. I think if it's
a low scoring game that could also help Pavia. I
could see the SEC country voting for Pavey. I mean,
how do we do it? We do with like a
bunch of people around the nation right voting on this
all over the place Heisman odds right now Mendoza plus
one sixty five, Pavey up plus one seventy five and
(01:43:56):
saying it plus one ninety five Jeremiah Love a long
long shot there and fourth. So it's going to be
probably one of the closest Heisman races ever unless we
get you know, some overwhelming performance from Saying or Mendoza.
Speaker 1 (01:44:09):
Tomorrow night, all right, eight pm, start all the pregame
festivities here. I'm ninety three five one oh seven five
the fan with Don Fisher. And tomorrow if you want
to hear Don Fisher colle a basketball game cotting in
the ninety three point one WIBC is IU takes on Louisville.
That one will tip off at two fifteen. You want
to listen to Butler Tomorrow at one thirty, We've got
(01:44:29):
that one for you right here on the fan. They'll
be hosting Boise State. And if you want to warm
up and watch some TV. I always stayed at Purdue.
I think that'll be an entertaining basketball great game.
Speaker 2 (01:44:38):
Yeah, two of the better offenses in all college basketball.
I alway State, it's the best shooting team in college
basketball so far this season. So yeah, it should be
an awesome atmosphere there at MACKI and I would assume
one Tyres haliburn I make an appearance behind the old
visiting bench.
Speaker 1 (01:44:54):
All right, tonight the Pacers take on the Chicago Bulls.
They'll be on the road. That one starts at eight
seven thirty airtime, here at ninety three five and one
seven another calf injury. Kevin Bowen.
Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
Yeah, Ben Shepard, I'm gonna be I don't believe he
got hurt during the game, or at least and leave
the game the other night against Denver due to that
calf injury. But yeah, I would assume that means Jarris
Walker into the starting line up here with Pacers have
seen the balls a lot already. The season is to
be the third meeting. Remember, Pascal Siakam had the game
winner against Chicago over the weekend, four and a half
point underdog, so you're not too big of a spread here.
(01:45:28):
Chicago's got several injuries either they are dealing.
Speaker 1 (01:45:31):
With all right. And of course Sunday afternoon, we've been
talking about it all day, the Colts at the Jaguars
and one o'clock that will also be hurt on the fan.
Our pregame festivity start at ten a m. In the morning.
Big news yesterday at a Colts camp, Kennymore named the
Walter Payton Man of the Year for the Indianapolis Colts.
Speaker 5 (01:45:47):
Yeah, well deserved for Kenny.
Speaker 4 (01:45:50):
So before practice got on their way yesterday, Kaylin Jackson,
the Colts owner came out and gave a little speech
about Kenny. He's working in the community and how much
he cares about things other than football when it comes
to Indianapolis. So well deserved for mister Kenny who teaches
over at Cardinal Ritor on tuesdays like that.
Speaker 1 (01:46:05):
Also, the biggest applause of the day practice came for
the brand new kicker, Kevin What was going on there?
Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
Yeah, when we were out there, a little smattering of
applause for Blake Groupie a perfect seven for seven on
his field goal attempts. So we'll see how that transitions
to an outdoor environment, potentially in the rain coming up
on Sunday again. Colt's a slight favorite in this one.
One thing to note on Big ten title for our
fans out there, either going to the game or simply
you know whatever, hosting a party. Are just curious about kicktime.
(01:46:31):
I saw eight eighteen, so welcome to life on the
big stage. They listed at eight o'clock eight eighteen for kickoff.
I believe gates open at six at Lucas Oil Stadium,
so FYI for people that care.
Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
It's eighteen more minutes for you on the road to
celebrate your birthday, James tomorrow night when you're on the
road getting ready for that game, going.
Speaker 2 (01:46:53):
Back because uh tag team with Matt Taylor and join
his forty year old birthday party.
Speaker 1 (01:46:57):
Boy, what I'm saying, gotta.
Speaker 5 (01:46:59):
Work that out, man'll be quite the show.
Speaker 1 (01:47:02):
I was heartbroken yesterday to hear this. I was listening
to Jay Query and they did the breaking new sounder Kevin.
I know you're probably were this. Marion University confirming that
it's a football program has been removed from the NEAIA
playoffs after using an academically ineligible player of for I
think three games. That it was an inadvertent mistake that
(01:47:23):
they make, but they owned up to it and they
will no longer participate in the nai Football Championship Series.
This week in West Palm Beach, I was crust volunteer yesday.
Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
Yeah, and again, I just know the details that I saw,
but it doesn't make sense to me, if I'm going
to be totally honest. Sounds like this was a player
that maybe wasn't playing a whole lot. Then simply yeah,
I guess made a mistake and withdrawing from a class
and therefore the other what eighty guys in the football
(01:47:54):
team get punished for it. I don't that's bureaucracy and
actually doesn't really add Again, probably in the wrong on that,
and I mean I probably should. I don't know. Maybe
rules or rules look more into it, but it just
doesn't really seem to make a little.
Speaker 1 (01:48:08):
Less James as a former Anyia football player that did
play in those playoffs a couple of years back in
the day. I can't tell you just from afar, not
even personally knowing any of those marrying kids, I just
know how devastating that would be.
Speaker 3 (01:48:23):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:48:24):
Yeah, you want to if you go out, you want
to be able to go out saying you've actually played
a game.
Speaker 1 (01:48:27):
So that stinks, I does think. All right, anything else
you guys will throw him before we move on to
some of our NFL picks for the weekend here.
Speaker 2 (01:48:33):
Yeah, again, we got the FIFA World Cup draw at noon.
So next year the World Cup will be right here
in the United States of America and we'll find out.
Speaker 5 (01:48:41):
That's what the drawings say.
Speaker 4 (01:48:42):
Like USA, we got to get it done. The US
charity entry into the World Cup and Lebron James one
and ninety seven straight games of scoring in double figures.
That came to an end last night. He did have
the game winning to Ruey Hotchamura in scoring.
Speaker 5 (01:49:02):
He sacrificed his streak for that eight What did he shoot?
Speaker 4 (01:49:06):
Four ver seventeen? Shot a bunch of bricks. Stop shooting
the ball. Pass it you win the.
Speaker 2 (01:49:09):
Game, James, Boyd, you get some Matt Ryan vibes from
Lebron James right now. Matt Ryan twenty twenty two Colts.
Speaker 4 (01:49:15):
I'm not gonna lie I am. The numbers are looking
pretty bleak. I think he has one twenty point game
this year. He's looking old, but it happens.
Speaker 5 (01:49:22):
To all of them.
Speaker 1 (01:49:24):
Father father time always wins, all right. Coming up at
a moment, we will take a look ahead to some
of the other games in the National Football League, including
our Colts picks. Before we get out of here, Caleb,
take us away. We'll be back in a moment. I mean,
everybody has birthdays every day.
Speaker 3 (01:49:37):
But.
Speaker 1 (01:49:41):
Happy Friday everyone. A lot of football, a lot of
great basketball coming up this weekend. Hit it, James, turn up, Caleb.
Speaker 2 (01:49:51):
I think it's on the DJ playlist inside of Lukasolo Stadium,
like maybe a seven forty five song. You know, you
start to get fans on the building a little bit
here and James Boys on tables in Jacksonville celebrating his birthday.
Speaker 4 (01:50:03):
No I like it, Oh yeah, you know, I'm just
being buttoned up for the show. Things get wild at
about ten on one to day when.
Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
The sun sets.
Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
Who knows, all right, Kevi, give us some good music here.
We're here to tell you about the best, the worst,
the closest, the most lopside of the most entertaining games
of the weekend. And then National Football League Kevin mone
you want to start off with your Which one do
you want to start off? I'll let you decide.
Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
Let's go the hardest start. I think you know honestly,
Jason Hammer said yesterday he would take the Packers in
an absolute route of Marks Bears. That's a six and
a half point favorite. I thought about that. I'm gonna
go Monday night Eagles at Chargers. The Eagles are favored
by two and a half. Is justin Herbert plaining or not?
Let's start there? How effective will he be? The Eagles
(01:50:51):
are reeling right now. You're telling me three time zone
travel and they're a road favorite. I like the Chargers,
but then again, Chargers have been so oh jackal and
Hyde this year, So that to me is the hardest game,
and it's the last game of the week.
Speaker 1 (01:51:03):
Here in week fourteen, Herbert had surgery in this none
throwing him.
Speaker 2 (01:51:07):
Correct left hand. He's got a little cast ish situation here.
He's practicing, but you know it's different than getting hit
by that vaunted Eagles d line.
Speaker 1 (01:51:15):
James, what's the most difficult game for you to predict
this weekend?
Speaker 4 (01:51:18):
I know we have what commander's vikings that is a
one and a half point fether from Minnesota. JAJ McCarthy
are gonna be back in the lineup. I think the
Commanders are still going with Marcus Mariotta if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (01:51:30):
Daniel's back to practice, but not Yeah, I don't know
he's fully clear to play it.
Speaker 4 (01:51:34):
So again, two quarterbacks and one quarterback's got awful. I
just don't really want to pick any of those guys
because you just never know what might happen there.
Speaker 1 (01:51:42):
Just I need him to keep throwing to Terry mclaur
that's all I need.
Speaker 4 (01:51:45):
Also, I don't think the Viking should be favored in
anything with j J. McCarty just starting right now. To
be honest with you, I am gonna stay. I love
me a good old slob or knocker.
Speaker 1 (01:51:56):
Nothing says that like AFC nor two six and six teams,
the Steelers and the race.
Speaker 6 (01:52:02):
You've never heard of that I've heard.
Speaker 1 (01:52:05):
I don't know what that means.
Speaker 2 (01:52:06):
No, I never heard.
Speaker 1 (01:52:07):
That means what we were talking about earlier. Hat on
hat line up and let's go bang helmets man. You've
never heard of Kevin? I know you've heard of that, Yes,
I have.
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Mark Dyton might be breaking into the studio though, if
you keep this audio up.
Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
Here, I'm ready to go. I'm fully on board with that.
Steelers Ravens. That's one of those that every year you
just know they are.
Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
What is the line of that one? Five and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:52:30):
Five for the Ravens, Jeff. I'm staying away from it, though,
from betting on it, because I just think you never
know what's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:52:37):
In then, Mark Jackson did not practiced yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:52:39):
No, he's been weird lately too. Something's not quite right.
He hasn't been right since that injury. So that I'm
staying away from that one. That's the most difficult for
me to figure out what's going to happen. And all right,
most entertaining game this.
Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
Year, I'm gonna go Bengals Bills, Joe Burrow back in
the lineup. Those two quarterbacks. I mean, those are two
guys that one day could certainly be in try. I
didn't Canton, Ohio. I was totally impressed by Burrow on
Thursday night last week for Thanksgiving and his return. I know,
I asked you guys yesterday who to start in fantasy
Kayleb Williams, Sam Darnold of Joe Burrow. You guys pushed
(01:53:13):
me in the Burrow direction. So I'm going there need
to shoot out and it's a high over under, so
entertainment wise, you're gonna get points. It looks like fifty
two and a half, I believe for Bengals and Bills James.
Speaker 4 (01:53:24):
Most entertaining game, I could go with the one that
I will be actually attending in person, which is Colts Jaguars.
But the interests of the rest of the division, I
think it's very entertaining to see what happens with the
Chiefs and the Texans. Can the Texans basically put the
Chiefs out of the playoff picture or do the Chiefs
stay alive, which would help the Colts in this case,
(01:53:46):
if they don't talk the Texans.
Speaker 1 (01:53:47):
Yeah for entertaining boy Mark wishes he was here. Another
divisional matchup, and I think this one who we're gonna
find out who the Bears really are. Green Bay Packers
hosting the Chicago Bears for twenty five Sunday afternoon. I
think that's going to be an absolute burner to watch
the biggest Bears game since when.
Speaker 6 (01:54:06):
I mean, I feel like you gotta go go back
to the little bit, maybe some playoff games with the
Trubisky like that.
Speaker 5 (01:54:13):
We're going the team.
Speaker 1 (01:54:14):
That was defeated by the Indianapolis Colts in the rain
right all the way to the Super I don't know
if I go that far, but yeah, it's a big
It's the biggest.
Speaker 4 (01:54:22):
Game in a winn relevant really truly since the game
between then and the double dointy.
Speaker 1 (01:54:27):
But nobody was expecting them to go anywhere. Uh Anyway,
That's where I'm at right there. No, I never took
the Bear seriously, loves of the final play of the game.
Speaker 5 (01:54:37):
That was a pretty big game for them.
Speaker 1 (01:54:38):
They were lost, all right, Easiest game for you to
bet on this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:54:44):
I can't believe I'm saying this out loud, but I
am going to bet on the Jets. Yeah, the Dolphins
are going on the road to face the Jets two
in cold weather. We know that doesn't go well, right,
And the Jets are getting points at home, and the
Jets have won a couple games here lately. So is
there so much of this? It says Kevin, you are
(01:55:05):
an absolute idiot. Just shut up and stay clear of
this game. But no, for some reason, I believe Jets
home getting points against TUA in cold weather.
Speaker 4 (01:55:16):
Jets James, I think I'm rolling with the Broncos and
the Raiders. The Broncos I've here about seven and a half.
I know it's a weird number. It's a division game,
but at the same time, the Raiders just absolutely stink.
Speaker 5 (01:55:31):
Nothing they do ever make sense to me.
Speaker 4 (01:55:32):
So I feel like they've got to that point of
the year where you might start getting some guys who
are ready for cant Con.
Speaker 1 (01:55:38):
I'm gonna go backs against the Wall. I think you're
going to see the absolute best that Andy Reid and
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelson or she Rice can bring
to the Houston Texans. They're playing at home. It's all
about either continuing on or being done. I think you
will get the best Chiefs or three and a half
point favorites. I think they'll cover that, James.
Speaker 2 (01:55:57):
That's where I'm going, big one, big one for the Colts.
Speaker 1 (01:56:00):
Who's easiest one for you? Man? Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:56:02):
Going going with me for this one?
Speaker 3 (01:56:04):
Here?
Speaker 6 (01:56:04):
I was actually I'm not gonna like Kevin.
Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
I was like, yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (01:56:07):
Think the Dolphins are playing at really well.
Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
Well that makes me feel a little better.
Speaker 6 (01:56:10):
Well, no, And then I was like you said that,
and I was like, yeah, it's a great point to
in cold weather, right, not a good bet, right, So
I don't know where i'd go. I might say Buccaneers
off of Bye. I think they're getting a little healthier
against the Saints. I know it's eight and Hike Evins potentially,
so I was gonna say the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
All right, that's where we're at right now. Let us
know if you disagree or be with any of those
two three nine ten seventy will also be back to
talk about the Colts in their game against the Jacksonville
Jaguars coming up in just a moment here at ninety
three five and seven The Fan, Great job today, Caleb
Wait to go, my man.
Speaker 2 (01:56:45):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:56:46):
One more. Happy birthday to you, James Boyd. Have a
great day.
Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
Yeah, today is a day in history where the greatest
human ever to walk this earth was born.
Speaker 5 (01:56:54):
So shout out to me.
Speaker 1 (01:56:55):
You know, I thought you were talking about your sister, right,
twins Jessica.
Speaker 5 (01:56:58):
Yeah, you know What's It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:57:00):
I have her name on my phone as Jessica with
no eye because I think I'm the only one in
my family who says her name correctly. Nobody in my
family says the eye is just Jessica Jessica. So as
a joke, I've had her name missed out on my
phone for the last twenty years.
Speaker 1 (01:57:17):
I love it. Anyway, We've got a big weekend coming up.
We've been talking about it all morning long, and now
it comes down to what we think is going to
happen with the Colts and the Jaguars. I know, taking
heat this morning because the Jaguars are good against the run.
I just think that you want to go take your division,
go do what they do well. I think the Colts
can run the ball as well as anybody. Strength on strength,
(01:57:37):
Let's go. Let's put Jonathan Taylor in between the tackles.
Outside the tackles, let's bloody them up a little bit
and go win a football game. I think the Colts
will be able to do that. I think they're going
to win this game twenty seven to twenty four.
Speaker 2 (01:57:49):
All right, all right, making our picks, I guess, okay,
I like the Colts as well. I think I said
twenty three twenty or maybe twenty four twenty something along
those lines. I don't really trust Trevor Lawrence either. You know,
that's probably an area we haven't talked a lot about.
You know, Lawrence, if you look at the games this season,
this passer rating hasn't been very very high, so I
(01:58:13):
think the Colts should have an ability to kind of
neutralize him. I did see Parker Washington, they're leading white out,
did return to practice yesterday, so they will likely be
without their left tackle though, so can you take advantage there?
So I will say the Colts end the streak twenty
four to twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:58:28):
And I like that full circle ten year thing you've
been talking about all week too. Man, that's the best.
So thanks for bringing that up again.
Speaker 4 (01:58:34):
And you James, you guys are not fooling me. I'm
not following for this. I've done this many.
Speaker 1 (01:58:39):
A times, but then in the tailpipe for you, yeah,
I'm not doing that.
Speaker 4 (01:58:42):
I'm picking the Jaguars because they win against this team
in Jacksonville on an annual basis for god knows whatever
reasons in the past life. I don't know if Jim
Ursay did something to that franchise whoever owns that team,
but for whatever reason, bad things happen when they go
down there. So all that mind, I'm picking the Jackaguars.
I want to say two zero just patrol, because I
(01:59:02):
feel like that'd be the weirdest outcome for this game.
But I'll pick the Jaguars to win twenty one to
twenty Was it zire fo twenty three?
Speaker 5 (01:59:10):
Twenty?
Speaker 1 (01:59:11):
Was it zire Franklin was talking about in the I
thought I saw him quoted yesterday saying, look, he doesn't
pay any attention to that different team, different you're, different players,
different coordinator, all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:59:22):
Yeah, but Zay, you've never beat that team of your
career down there, so I don't want to hear any
of that from him or anybody else. Like they tell us, Oh,
it's a talking porn for you guys, It's only that
way because you all never win there.
Speaker 5 (01:59:32):
It's your fault, not ours.
Speaker 2 (01:59:33):
Kevin.
Speaker 6 (01:59:34):
Yeah, I as much as I want to be a
real fan here and believe in my team, I'm siding
with James. I'm nervous about this game. I think the
Jaguars are gonna win twenty six twenty three. I think
I'm on the same boat James, when I'll have to
see it to believe it. My heart has been broken
down there too many times, and I'm starting to get
(01:59:56):
real nervous about where this thing is added. So, but
I don't they proved me wrong, So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (02:00:01):
How is your Ohio State heart feeling for tomorrow night.
Speaker 6 (02:00:05):
I think it's a cool personally, it's a cool thing
to just be here in this city while this is
going on. I have to say, like I lucked out
for sure. I think Ohio State is going to win tomorrow.
But I also think there's a chance we're going to
be getting a part two to this.
Speaker 2 (02:00:20):
Later on in the year.
Speaker 6 (02:00:21):
Uh it would. I like the playoffs, and I think
so I'll be interested to see, like if everything is
showed for both teams. I think that's a great point
to bring up. I think you again I think both
teams want to win this really bad. But I also
I don't know if Ryan Day is going to hold back.
I don't know if Signette's going to hold some things back.
So I think that chess match is going to be interesting.
Speaker 1 (02:00:42):
I'm looking forward. Kevin, how are you feeling about tomorrow night?
Speaker 3 (02:00:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:00:44):
I think it's a great point that Caleb brings up
of like, is there any sort I think when you're
in the heat of the moment, you know that stuff
probably gets thrown out the window, But like, yeah, I
mean when you're discussing the potential of these two teams
who I think many You know, if you look at
the odds right now, they are clearly the two atop
the list from an odds standpoint, then you know, is
(02:01:04):
there any sort of Well, this is the play we've
been talking about all year long. I kind of want
to save that for the one and done formatt not
the No matter what happens tomorrow night, you're still going
to be playing, and you're still likely going to be
a favorite in the quarterfinal round. So I think it'll
be a great game. I do, and I think Indiana
will will win. I think it'll be a very close,
close game, but I think Indiana will will get it done.
(02:01:25):
I think having Elijah Srot back and healthy and Omar
Cooper Junior, I think it's just I don't know if
he's underrated nationally, but I think he's a special talent.
I think he's got some Deebo Samuel vibes to him,
and I think he'll make a couple of really big
plays in this game.
Speaker 1 (02:01:38):
James, you saw what Indiana did to your team. They
came from behind and won a tough game at Iowa City,
they came from behind, won a tough game at Oregon,
they overcame that pick six. They just keep finding ways
to surprise people. Are you ready to predict them and
win over Ohio State?
Speaker 4 (02:01:55):
No, I can't go that far. Ohio State is not
Illinois by any means. So I have, you know, jumped
on the IU bandwagon, and I have certainly given them
their flowers. But I don't think they're going to beat
Ohio State tomorrow night. But if they do, I'd love
to see it. I definitely would. You know, I'm not
going to root against them or anything like that like
I was with Mahlma Mater, But Nah, this is a
(02:02:16):
different level of football and I think Ohio State is
going to show that again.
Speaker 1 (02:02:19):
I think Indiana's risen up to that level though. I
love the way they're playing again physically along the offensive line,
especially Kevin You talked earlier about Roman Hemby and Kaylin
Black and they're running the football. Well, we know that
Mendoza is a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, but
look at those receivers too that they've developed, and I
know it's this is going to be my favorite thing
to watch because of the defensive backfield for Ohio State
(02:02:41):
is maybe unmatched in college football. But Omar Cooper, Elijah Sharratt,
Charlie Becker's come on you still, They're just up and
down the roster. There's four or five guys that can
make plays for you just receiving the football and a
couple of guys that can do it on the run.
Then you've got the high I just love where Indiana's
this year.
Speaker 5 (02:03:00):
And then you look at the other side and they
got everything in that and more.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:03:04):
So do I mean they got Jeremiah Smith who could
have been the top five pick last year.
Speaker 2 (02:03:07):
James saying Illinois is not Ohio State is about as
true of a statement as Jeff saying people have birthdays
every day.
Speaker 4 (02:03:14):
I was just pointing out, like log I chose Illinois
solely because of where I graduated from and at the
time they were ranked pretty high.
Speaker 1 (02:03:21):
But yeah, no, this is not that well, it's gonna
be an unbelievable weekend of football coltson Jacksonville. And of
course I think you're onto something too. This might just
be part one of Ohio State Indiana Kevin. Before it's
all said and.
Speaker 2 (02:03:35):
Done, boy, those rankings. Can I get some prayers, James.
I know it's your birthday, but brother, if you've got
a prayer or two to throw out to me, I
will take one for the I.
Speaker 5 (02:03:44):
Mean, my birthday wished yet, so maybe I'll wish for
the Irish tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Notre Dame TCU down in Fort war big game for
the Irish. Trying to build an escas tournament resume. We
need some Quad one action here. Beating Missouri earlier in
the week. I'd rather take the win over TCU than
see Notre Dame and pop up in the bracket on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (02:04:02):
I like the fact Nelly's already got to witness a
few football games and basketball games for notre day. Right,
she's having running.
Speaker 2 (02:04:08):
Indeed, she heard the scream on Tuesday night when Cole
Serta hit the shot from el Kart there.
Speaker 1 (02:04:13):
I love that, all right, So what's what's your big
deal tonight? I knew you weren't able to catch up
on TV last night. What are you going to be
doing this evening? My man?
Speaker 4 (02:04:20):
I have no idea, to be honest with you. I
kind of just woke up and knew I had to
be here at seven and I'll figure out the rest later.
Speaker 1 (02:04:26):
No big birthday plan, No, not really.
Speaker 4 (02:04:29):
I'll probably try to get a good meal down in
Jacksonville tomorrow and celebrate that way.
Speaker 1 (02:04:32):
Kevin when he got going on this evening, what do
we have?
Speaker 3 (02:04:36):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:04:36):
I think we're going to yule Tie birthday shopping for James.
Christler's shopping for James exactly right, Mark, I.
Speaker 2 (02:04:43):
Got to get the red Mark, I love. Yes, that'll
be the gain of my niece turns one. Here we'll
celebrating birthday. Should say? So we're doing that tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (02:04:51):
Good deal, Caleb? Real quick? Anything? Yeah? Not much?
Speaker 6 (02:04:54):
Just getting ready for this huge sports weekend, so I'm
looking forward to enjoy.
Speaker 2 (02:04:58):
It'll be a blast.
Speaker 1 (02:04:58):
Yeah, I'm looking forward. I'll be boring and watch the
Pacers tonight, but I'm looking forward to see if they
can get a win again over Chicago tonight. You can
listen to it right here seven point thirty on the
fan Tip at eight o'clock. Have yourself, it's a great weekend.
Enjoy every single second of all of this. Have fun.
