Speaker 1 (00:05):
Over Jonathan Taylor. There he goes again, fifty forty.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
The park sideline. You can do it again, turn touchdown.
Friday Conference championship has.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Been captured five in the Animation Challenge Paul, which the
one hundred ninth Indianapolis five hundred.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
This is a fan morning show with KB, JB and Jeff.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
And we are closing the book on week one here
in Westfield. It is another morning practice and four straight
shows for us at the facility that is Grand Park.
Good Friday morning to you. I'm Kevin Bowen, James Boyd
alongside Cam on site Engineered. Thank you very much for
getting us locked and loaded here to close out the week.
(00:54):
Mark Dyton is back in studio. A lot to get
to here on this Friday. The fee get a much
much needed win. I guess we have a Caitlin Clark update,
although I don't really know if there's much of an
update in that's and now we're recapping two days of
Colts Training camp practices. They'll go a hair longer today,
They'll go to eleven fifteen today, So again ten am
(01:15):
start time, still eleven fifteen today. Ninety minute practice Saturday.
That is a four to five thirty session and then James,
I believe we'll get to full pads coming up on
Monday after a Sunday off day. Good morning to you.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Good morning to you. I had a good time watching
the game last night with the Indiana fever in the aces.
I thought Natasha Howard played great last night, KB and
anytime you can have her, yeah, I mean she was
basically matching the output from Asia Wilson, who obviously is
an MVP and a champion in this league. So it
was cool to see them get that winning the Aery
(01:52):
McDonald with the dagger lay in the stair down, how'd
you like that?
Speaker 5 (01:56):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
When she shot it, I thought it was Kelsey Mitchell,
Like there are time and both of them are left handed,
but you know there are times when Ari shoots it.
I'm like, wait, is that Kelsey Mitch? The violent step
back through the legs. It was nasty. Put a dagger
on the aces. As we said yesterday, much needed, much
much needed when for the fever, So we'll hit on
that as well. Latsu lt To enjoyed that conversation with
(02:18):
him yesterday post show. We'll play that for you here
coming up in the eight o'clock hour, and I thought
Bernard Ryman has interesting comments with our very own j Querry. Yes, sure, yes,
from noon to three. So I want to make sure
if you did not get to that, we'll share some
thoughts on the left tackle of the Colts and that
contract extension. Pretty rare for a player to admit in
(02:41):
late July that the contract talks are going, I guess
not on the same page, but that's what Ryman pretty
much said absolutely.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
I mean I was a bit surprised to hear him
be that candid throughout the interview with Jake, but Jake
did a good good job of, you know, asking follow
ups and clarifying and doing things I believe of that
nature because I'm see I didn't expect Bernard Ryman to
perhaps go that in depth about his concert situation. But
most guys when the money's in the line, KB, they
(03:08):
will break rank and kind of speak up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
And I ask you this for a reason two days
in here at Grand Park, would you be pulling your
hair out watching these two.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Quarterback If it was a little bit longer, maybe I
had you know the afro back in the day, But
I think I'm okay for now.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Well, I asked that, because the Great, the one, the only,
Darren Andrews. Did I see the Butler sticker on the
back of your car pulling into Grand Park this morning?
Speaker 6 (03:31):
That wasn't actually my sticky, but I am a Butler fan.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Okay, all right, maybe I've seen something. The Great Darren
Andrews from We Grow Hair India is with us here
and we will get into the quarterbacks and if indeed
the context around it would provide pulling the hair out Darren.
Yesterday I rocked a bucket hat here at Tranny Camp.
It was hotter than you know what yesterday. I believe
the only human that wore a jacket in Indiana yesterday
was Stephanie White. I drank of Thanks Jackie that she
(03:56):
rocked last night. Today, I went, no, hat, How.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
The locks look looking great?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Good?
Speaker 6 (04:02):
Natural looking? Yeah, specific looks great.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Well, thank you to your great staff for that. It's funny.
We do a family reunion once every two years, and
it just occurred in early July, and it didn't hit
me until I saw these people, you know, or earlier
this month. They all were like, Kevin, look at your
hair right now, right, And I'm like, well, yeah, yeah,
thank you. I take it for granted, but I guess
(04:25):
I shouldn't. And again thank you to your staff for that.
Speaker 7 (04:27):
Yeah, well you see yourself every day, right, It's like
after the procedure, the heroes and gradually and people come
in for a follow up at four months. We have
a twelve month follow up process. And of course you're
coming at four months. You see them before picture and
you're like wow, because it's so great. You'll other people
don't see you for a period of time, they see
the change. So we hear that a lot.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Again. It's Darren Andrews from We Grow hair Indy up
at the Pyramids. That's building number two. Online, we grow
hair Indie dot com. The before and after pictures and
videos on that website. We'll tell you a great, great picture.
I tell people this a lot, Darren, and it just
simply get in from I told you this. I was
not necessarily walking into your office saying this is one
(05:05):
thousand percent something I'm going to do. But at the
bare minimum, get answers, get some education, and make a
big decision from there.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
Yeah, there's a lot of misconceptions. And the thing with
hair transplants is you see the bad ones right, So
everyone's seeing the old, bad procedures that you know, back
in New Zealand and the day I had an uncle
that had an old transplant done that looked terrible, looked
like corn rows. But now the way we do it,
because we move the follicles individually, it looks natural. And
getting that information and seeing what's right for you. And
(05:32):
we don't just do transplants, we do everything. So not
everybody needs a hair transplant.
Speaker 7 (05:36):
Some people need preventive early stage hair loss, and sometimes
you've got to dovetail those and transplants together.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
But that information and that education is super important.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, it's funny. I talk to some people that have
had procedures done out of state, out of country, and
they are horror stories.
Speaker 7 (05:51):
Yeah, you know, I think to a certain degree, hair
transplants in some cases have been commoditized.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
We've been doing this for twenty years.
Speaker 7 (05:57):
This is our twentieth year this year, and we've evolved
and changed with technology, and it's not a one size
fits all and it's not just about the procedure. It's
about the care and the follow up and being there
when you've got a question right and right through that
twelve month period we actually guarantee our results. So we
stand behind what we do through that whole twelve month period,
and that's important. It's a step outside of a comfort
(06:20):
zone for a lot of guys. Most guys in my
procedure twenty years ago, i'd never done anything cosmetic before. Sure, yeah,
and to the state, it's the only thing I've done.
May need some other stuff, but yeah, it's it's a
it's a nerve wrecking thing for a lot of guys.
But knowledge is power, and when you have the knowledge,
the process is much easier.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
And Amanda that even James Boyd was saying earlier, kind
of patting the back, need it.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
I was just curious. So when you when in our seriousness,
when you see the reaction after the time of recovery
from the men and probably some women as well, what
is that like to kind of have that gratifying part
where there was nervous at the beginning with it. Now
a couple of years later and you see this guy, yeah, smiling.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
It's a confidence thing. You know.
Speaker 7 (07:01):
You see guys when they first walk in for a
consultation and you know, losing here doesn't mean you're going
to go jump off a bridge, right If that's the case.
You come to see us, you're at the wrong place, right,
But you see guys coming when they've got their hearback
to carry yourselves differently, a bit more confident. Some guys
have lost weight. It can be a catalyst for other
things in your life. And everyone wants to looking fee
the abyss right. So when you feel good, you look good,
(07:22):
you look good, good things happen, so you know, it's
a gratifying thing to see that.
Speaker 6 (07:26):
It's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Cults training camp where we are at that would be
Grand Park just off of thirty one here, one hundred
and ninety first Street, the sun not beating down on
us just yet here on this Friday morning, and the
cults of practice from ten am to eleven fifteen. I
am looking forward to our quarterback conversation here in a
few minutes because I do think, as any day, there's
context around it. And you probably had, you know, one
(07:49):
of the more notable throws not in a good way
yesterday from Anthony Richardson in practice that we will get to.
You do have some cults flavor, if I'm not mistaken
correct on the VIP front.
Speaker 7 (07:59):
We do, mister Rick Demulling sure, Barry Cress so in
a few more over the years that have gone through,
that remained provati, of course, but we certainly did I.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
See a feel in this practice field that could maybe
dial you up.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Not to get to a person, but they gonna put
you in Oklahoma, Drew.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Okay, I'm not going to reveal any names, but you
know there's been a name or two that they pulled
me aside and said, tell me a little bit more
about it. And I said this to you. I honestly
one of my biggest worries when I first did this
was the recovery process. I was super nervous about that
and not just like sleeping up right for a couple
of days, whatever that was. You know, it is what
it is. But I had a boys trip to an
(08:37):
SEC football game the week after that procedure. It was
the week of the Colts playing in Frankfurt. Was the
weekend that I did that Friday. But I was more
worried about am I going to be able to go
to that Georgia Tennessee game? And I went, you know
a little bit of a fitting hat, sure, no issue whatsoever,
And like that is probably something I tell people the
most I'm not a big, like touchy feely human.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
You know, the.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Procedure day was long, but that recovery process I didn't
think was, you know, immense. I was back at work
on Monday. That was honestly one of the more reassuring
things to me throughout.
Speaker 7 (09:11):
Yeah, so with you, we did the robotic procedure, which
is a little bit of a longer day.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
I had multi init haircrafting.
Speaker 7 (09:16):
But the key thing now is a little bit of
planning so you can plan ahead when you have the procedure.
As an example, used to have to shave the transplanted
area all the time. Now we can work in between
existing here, so the cosmetic downtime is less.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
So planning is really the key. I remember the night
of the proced drivers at the Purdue basketball game.
Speaker 7 (09:34):
Yeah, and we were messaging and I think again, planning
just making sure that we're all on the same page, understanding,
and there's never a perfect time.
Speaker 6 (09:45):
A lot of guys like you know, I'm just gonna
wait for that perfect time.
Speaker 7 (09:47):
While there's a saying my grandmother used to use back
on the farm, if you wait for all the lights
of turn green before you head for town, you'll be
stuck at home forever. So a little bit, yeah, a
little bit of planning, but it's much more easier than
what guy, yeah realize.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
And it was a robot and don't make mistakes.
Speaker 7 (10:03):
They don't. And so we use it in a hybrid
kind of way. We use it to harvest follicles with
the IFFU we procedures, which is what you had done.
And then we've got such an experienced team medically. We
then placed the grops manually with that procedure type. So
it's uh, it's amazing technology.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
That is the voice of Darren Andrews again. We grow hair, Indy.
Simply throw the dot com on that northwest side Pyramids
building number two. It's day three of Colts Trading Camp.
Play out to lot to a man that's got some
wild looking hair.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Yeah, I don't know if he needs a hair translate.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
He might.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
He did tell us that he keep If he keeps dying,
he might lose it.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Rum of the defensive coordinator say yesterday about his hair.
It's it changes every day fire, he said.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
It's he said, I would say put it on fire,
but he changes it every day.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, honestly looks like a cheetah. I feel like I'm
walking through the planes at the zoom looking out by
out to Lots's hair. A fun conversation with Timble'll play
that upcoming for you at eight o'clock. Did you say
twenty years.
Speaker 7 (10:55):
You it'll be twenty years this year that we uh
let's started. Yeah, that's awesome. It's a big one. It's
one for us, very proud, very proud. You know, we're
seeing guys from all over the country now outside the
country in some cases. And if you had a said
to me twenty five years ago, personally, I'll be sitting
here talking to you guys about here from New Zealand
to here. I thought you were crazy, but here we are.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah, it's an awesome story. Last one, Darren. It just
simply if guys or gals have had questions, free evaluation,
private evaluation, of virtual evaluation, all of that is readily available.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (11:28):
Go to the website we grow herndy dot com of
course three one seven five two two two nine nine five.
That's the starting point. There's a lot of info on there.
Of course, your VIP page. We follow your story, which
has been a lot of fun. We appreciate you and
the commercials.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Yes, yes, so celebrity every day is I think there's
like a two minute TikTok on there that My wife
was like, wow, look at this thing. It's like months
just bundled into two minutes.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
Here you're natural on TV.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
But it's that that starting point is getting that that
information and there's lots of it on the website and
sit up the evaluation.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
I will tell you one quick story. You know, I've
done TV now full time rand the Colts season for
about the past three or four years. In the first
couple of years, they're like, hey, here's your makeup kit.
I'm like a makeup kid. I'm like, do I really
need this or whatever. Ever, since I got the hair
tress plant, no one has mentioned the makeup.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
It's that interesting thing younger you see.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
I'm like, geez, the skin looks great. Yeah. Now we
usually something about the gut. It might be some of
those doughnuts we had yesterday. Man didn't help. That is
Darren Andrews from We Grow Hair Andy. Darren has always
enjoyed the convo.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
Thank you, appreciate you guys, Thank you great.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Darren Andrews right here live at Colt's training camp. On
the other side, a lot to get to again. The
fever that was a vital one last night for them.
They get it done. And the stranger Things uniforms. What
is the Caitlin Clark update. Also, I thought pretty nice
afternoon yesterday for the first round pick Tyler Warren. Much
more on day two of Colts training camp. Kevin Bowen
and James Boyd live here in Westfield.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Morning checkout one five and one oh seven five the fan.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Day three here in Westfield Coals training camp ten am
start time once again, they'll go a little longer today
eleven fifteen ninety minutes tomorrow, so again four day stretch
here to start camp tomorrow. It'll be in the heat. Well,
I guess it's all hot relatively speaking. Four o'clock to
five thirty tomorrow, off day Sunday, back to morning practice
(13:27):
Monday and Tuesday. And James, we got a lot of
recap here up coming on the other side on exactly
what yesterday looked like. And Bernard Ryman speaking very candidly
on his contract extension.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Yes, whenever money is involved, players seem to break just
a little bit away from the company line of being
all in and for the whole shoe bucks matter.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, I would not have bad Bernard Ryman sharing as
well as yesterday, but nonetheless he did all right. Last night.
There were some good sharing by the Indiana Fever, unlike
Tuesday Day were the ones that kind of broke ahead
there in the third quarter. You mentioned it earlier. I
thought Natasha Howard just did it a little bit of everything.
You might not have been the flashiest, but she was
very key in the fever. Getting a w last night
(14:11):
over the Las Vegas Aces important for the standings, important
for a head to head tiebreaker, and again without Caitlin Clark,
for the foreseeable future, home games matter a whole lot, James.
They start five or six now on the road. They
need that one last night, and they got it eighty
to seventy.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Yes. Again, I thought that Natasha Howard went toe to
toe with Ajia Wilson and actually outplayed her. If you
look at the numbers, Asia Wilson had twenty points on
seventeen shots, seven of seventeen yes to day was six rebounds,
whereas Natasha Howard had eighteen points, thirteen rebounds, six of
nine shooting and a couple of actually three steals in
there as well. So she was all over the place,
(14:48):
and I think that she's been a very very good
signing for them as expected. I know, going into the season,
we were expecting for Dewana Bonner to basically be the
biggest signing, but obviously she's moved on elsewhere. But Natasha Howard,
I think every night.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
The Caitlyn Clark update before the tip last night read
is this. The Fever sent this out yesterday afternoon. Following
to July fifteenth injury to a right growing Indian a
Fever guard, Kaitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week.
The team can conform that no additional injuries or damage
were discovered through the evaluations. Clark will continue working with
the Fever medical team on recovery and rehab, with a
(15:23):
priority on her long term health and well being. There
is no timetable available for Clark's return and no additional
details will be provided at this time. Any further updates
will be shared as they become available. James, what did
you make of that statement?
Speaker 4 (15:39):
I do believe she has to be made available to speak,
maybe like a week or ten days into the injury,
something like that, because remember let the first time I
shot it down for two weeks. She was made available
to the media and kind of had to give an update,
so we will hear from her in the foreseeable future.
But to me, Kevin, it was just a smart decision.
Why do we keep calling it day to day when
we all know it should not be day to day
(16:00):
considering how valuable she is to not only the team,
but to the league and obviously to herself, you know,
the first and foremost, because you don't want to put
her out there at risk of making things just worse.
But I will say she does not ease the anxiety
of the fans because if you watched last night's game
from home, which I did, I decided not to go
in person and kind of relax after being out here
in the sun all day.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
But she was.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Jumping up and down and moving around. I'm like, girl, woman, please,
you know, relax. You're giving everyone out here a little
bit of harp palpitations because you won't relax. But I
don't know if she's capable of doing that.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
No, there's no chance in the world she is capable
of dying.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Did you see her jumping around? I'm like, man, like
the groin has to you know, get better.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
I know, there are times like she canna get a
technical again. Yeah, Sunday for the fever up in Chicago.
Major League Baseball, pretty quiet a day. And there's nothing
I love better than the Reds doing what they did
on Wednesday, the Cubs doing what they did, and then
not having any baseball on Thursday. So then if the
Reds just you'll pissed down their lake this weekend, we
all can forget about it by Monday. Oh no, no, no, yeah,
(17:01):
just that's a basket in this for a second day.
Speaker 8 (17:04):
For a guy whose teams eight and a half games
back in the talking a lot of trash after the words.
Pretty interesting, and.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
The ends three straight wins to start their home stand
here down at Victory Fields. Just a dislocated toe for
Justin Field. So we mentioned this yesterday, you know.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Which, by the way, it sounds horrible still. Oh yeah, yeah,
it sounds so painful.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
But again, when you hear carted off, yes, you know,
I tried to say yesterday when that news broke during
our show, like cart it off at training camp, it
doesn't sound like absolutely season indian injury as you would think.
The Colts indoor facility, for example, is like a thousand
yards away from their practice field, So anybody's gonna get
carted in.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Yeah, there's usually like some context within the season when
the guy gets carved off, it's a little.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
More and dire. Most likely it is a little different there.
Racing wise this weekend, of course, we've got the Brickyard
four hundred coming up on Sunday. Indy Car is out
at Laguna Seco, which has been a very busy month
of July. So Doug Bowles, he might be going red Eye,
he might be going private jet here, private jet there.
It might be a busy time. A balance in the
Brickyards and Indy Car. All right, upcoming on the other
(18:10):
side before we gets allowed to lot to in the
eight o'clock hour, what did Bernard Riben share about two
sides currently not on the same page when it comes
to his contract negotiation? And how did the quarterbacks look yesterday?
We'll break it all down for you. This is the
Fan Morning Show live here in Westfield, Kevin Bowen, James
Boyd and Mark Dyton. I stink, I suck, I am terrible.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
You were listening to a fan morning show on Sports
Radio ninety and one oh seven.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Fit in that I'll try to us left.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
This cards truly burn up.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
But yes, that.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Is it bad. My biggest memory of Hulk Hogan is
Hogan knows best the TV show.
Speaker 8 (19:21):
No, that's perfectly normal. I think that's okay for a
non wrestling fan.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Yeah, goys, those skies are looking awful. Do you see
those skuys up there?
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I do, And I'm having flashbacks of last year's monsoon. Gosh,
when I was driving home shivering because I didn't bring
any other shirts. But I am prepared this year. If
it rains, I have backup clothes in the car.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
I'll dial up the radar. Here alive in Westfield. Yes,
rest in peace to Hulk Hogan passing away. I think
just after our show that was announced yesterday afternoon. Colts
scheduled to be out on the practice field from ten
to eleven fifteen today, so a little bit longer coming
up eight o'clock. We'll play that lieout to LOTSU. He's
got a food recommendation correct, little, yes, a little he
(20:05):
does little door dash spot that he really enjoyed.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Yeah, yeah, you allowed to recommend the place if you
never stepped foot into the place.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
I mean, food is food, But I almost don't.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Blame him, because I don't think you can walk around
and be viewed as like a normal human being. Someone
would definitely recognize even if they don't know who he
is exactly. Wait a second, you must play a sport
because he's a very large human.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
I did notice yesterday Samson Ebicom coming back to the
torn Achilles took a little bit more of those starting reps.
So just something to keep an eye on. Quity Pay
looks to be a definite starter. We'll see how they'll
split up. You know, you rotate a whole lot of
the D line a lot too in Ebicom on the
other side. Want to get to that Bernard Ryman audio
upcoming in a few because I thought his comments were
(20:43):
very candid, and I thought one thing in particular stood
out to me that I was scratching my head at
about it. We'll play that upcoming in a few. But James,
let's go over the quarterbacks from yesterday. Daniel Jones, as expected,
got more of the starting reps that flipped from day one. Again,
it adds up to fifty to fifty. Yeah, but just
(21:04):
specifically yesterday it was a little bit more. Daniel Jones
whether you want to go Jones, whether you want to
go Richardson, whether you want to go both. What'd you see?
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Well to your point about flip flopping, Anthony started yesterday
with the first union, so anybody who's trying to keep
track it is, but it hasn't been even to your point, Kevin,
but I think optically people are always so obsessed with
who starts with the ones. Really, like you said, Daniel
Jones probably got a little bit more playing time with
that first unit. To me, what stood out the biggest thing,
(21:32):
and it's a negative, but the interception from Anthony down
the sideline. He was trying to find Ashton Dulan and
through it very short actually, which is not something we
usually say for Anthony Richardson, And it allowed Juju Brintz,
who was trying to make some plays himself and obviously
try to move up to depth chart. He ran underneath
it very easily for an interception. It wasn't like he
had to make it a spectacular play, just an odd play.
(21:54):
Jim Bob Cooter broke it down after practice yesterday and
said that obviously he once the quarterbacks stick care of
the ball, but on that particular play they were putting
in quote a new motion, So perhaps that was something
else that Anthony Richardson was adjusting to. A bottom line
is it wasn't a great throw. I think he finished
three or seven and eleven on eleven KB, And then
I thought Daniel Jones, if I had my Sallie's correct
(22:17):
with six of ten. But again, even Daniel Jones, there
were a couple of throws here and there. Each one
of them had a couple of throws across the middle
that were pretty nice. But again I didn't come away
from yesterday thinking that one quarterback was oh so great,
at one quarterback was oh so bad. If anything, the
more consistent quarterback through two days, I get it very early,
(22:38):
probably has been Daniel Jones, which in the back of
my mind, I'm thinking, is that something that Shane Stycken
is noting.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Yeah, I would say for a second straight day it
wasn't the abundance that we saw on day one, but
James and seventeen passes from those two ten Jones, seven Richardson,
I would count at least two maybe three drops.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
Yes, very good point.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Again for another day, I didn't think when fifty to
fifty balls are up in the air right now, the
defense is winning those ninety ten yeah, and the defense
is whipping the offense when it comes to those bang
bang moments. And again the expectation with lou Anarrumo is
the coverage will be stick here, they will get their
hands on more balls.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
They will to your point, when you do have opportunity
to sketch the ball, you have to. Because I thought
Anthony did do a good job yesterday have rolling to
his right in extending to play, he found Dj Montgomery
on like a little bit of an out route towards
the sideline and Dj dropped it. It was a tougher catch,
but hey man, this is the NFL. You gotta catch though.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
I thought Richardson's best highlight the Colts tweeted this out
was the rollout to the left in traffic to Michael
Pittman Junior. Yeah, I was a dome that was with
blanket coverage from traverious ward even justin Wally was closing
from the other side of the rookie out of Minnesota.
I would say, right now with Richardson, and this is
where you entered the caveat I'm talking about two days
of culturining camp practice on July twenty fifth, and remember
(23:55):
the bar is low with Anthony Richardson. But I've noticed
this in the individual periods. I've noticed this a little
bit in the early one on ones. I haven't seen
the outright wild inaccuracy that I have in years past,
like typically from Anthony. And these are not hard numbered
(24:18):
data right here, but generally, I think when you watch him,
even in these like routes versus Air James or you
know again, individual periods, he'll have one or two ground balls.
He'll have one or two balls that almost hits this
barn to the left of us, and I haven't seen
as many of those. And those are the like the
(24:39):
interception that you just painted for us a few minutes ago.
That's a throw he makes that's actually an NFL throw
that like he's usually on target with Yeah, I mean
when he throws a deep ball and he said it
after Jim Bob, I think you mentioned this a little
bit after breakst yesterday, Like that's usually an on target
throw for him. So again, the bar is low. It's
two days, and the raw numbers won't indicate this with
(25:03):
Richardson if you're just going off of eleven on eleven,
but I will say, in the early periods of practice,
when he almost always has a ball or two, that's like,
wait a minute, should they go get westfield starting quarterback
to come over here? Yeah, and let these guys catch
some passes. I haven't seen as much of that now
as we get further into camp, as obviously they get
(25:25):
into more eleven on eleven periods. I think today, maybe
tomorrow is gonna be more of a third down focus,
so it's a little bit more down the field. How
will all those mechanics hold up? You know, when the
red jersey comes off, But you know, I guess I
would label that as a positive. Again, it's a low bar,
but I haven't seen the wild inaccuracy with him underneath that.
I feel like we're used to seeing.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
But then my counter would be, what do you need
to see? And I get that it's very early, but
also every day counts. I mean, you don't have much time.
We're not talking about the spring anymore. You're every single
day you're out here being evaluated. So what do you
need to see to tell you that he's making ground
in this quarterback competition? Because for me, right now, if
they told me again after two days, take with it,
(26:08):
what you will after two days. If they told me
Daniel Jones was starting, I'd be like, Okay, I get it.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Yeah, I would do it reluctantly. I mean, like it's
and that's just the nature of this battle for I mean,
you know, someone asked me yesterday about Daniel Jones because
I think mostly you would say it's been thinking dunk.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
I don't think it's a lack of arm strength though, No,
he has arm strength. You know, we saw even in
the spring some attempts down the field of Alex Pierce
and things like that. I think generally it's just a
little bit more of a unwillingness and you know, wife
air again we you know again, it's been more of
a first and second down focus so far. I thought,
you say, one of his better throws will roll out
to the right. He found Alec Pierce yep, just before
the sideline there. I mean, neither of the options are great,
(26:48):
neither of the options are good. I mean, that's just
the reality one.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
That's the conundrum they found themselves in. But to your
point about him being reluctant to push it down the field,
he did push back on that a little bit with
us when we kind of mentioned that to him and
what we saw during the Giants days and as Kevin
Bowen takes off the headset and looks around and it's
getting a little spooky out here at Grand Park. But
perhaps that's the quarterback talk or the weather. I'm not sure,
but he said that he doesn't think it's an irreluctance thing.
(27:15):
So we will see as the days stack up and
obviously into the preseason games whether or not he's willing
to rip one and take a bit of a risk,
because that's the caveat with his style of plays. It's
very conservative, and honestly, do the Coles just prefer that
over someone who's gonna try to, you know, get a
chunk player or something like that.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
What do you think today will be rep wise? Quarterback?
Do you think we just go back to day one,
like Richardson takes more of the eleven on eleven reps
today and then Jones takes more of them tomorrow or
remember this is day three in a row, So do
we get any scaled back?
Speaker 5 (27:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I guess it all depends on how Anthony recovers. And
this is how nerdy I am. I guess will it
matter in my opinion that you've had more time to
recover from this practice to maybe next tomorrow's pctice because
in my mind, tomorrow's practice is in the afternoon. So
in theory, if you finished up today, you'd have more
time to recover with your arm and your shoulder and
(28:13):
your workload versus trying to get all that you know,
same sort of workload today. So in my mind, do
you scale him back today if you're going to do
it at all, versus tomorrow because you have more time
to recover between today and tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Again, that's the voice of James Boyd. Were live here
in Westfield Grand Park, day three of Colt's training camp.
Definitely overcast right now as we sit here on this
Friday morning. It looks like rate our wives. Hopefully it'll
stay north of us. Colt scheduled to go from ten
to eleven fifteen today. We'll play that Loaut to Latsu
interview coming up in the eight o'clock hour. He did
(28:49):
throw out some goals for this season, yeah, and sack numbers,
so we'll share that with you upcoming Yesterday. James, I
did think Bernard Ryman's conversation with Jay Querry was really
interesting yesterday. And you know what, I think he's hopefully
still in rem sleep so the ego won't be fed enough.
I thought Jake did a really nice job in furthering
(29:10):
some of those details from all crush that ego.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
After he did the interview, I was sitting right next
to him. He's asking me, did I do?
Speaker 5 (29:16):
Did I do?
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Okay? Should I've asked anything else? And I you know,
I'm like, dude, you're fine. That that is so he
does care about the craft.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
That is the most Jake thing I've heard. Mark. Let's
go ahead and play this again, maybe to set up
a little bit of the background. Bernard Ryman is in
the final year of his rookie contract. Typically players with
the career arc of Bernard Ryman in the Crisp bout era,
they get an extension. Now I think Quentin Nelson might
have signed his extension like the night before the season started.
(29:43):
Like it's not like they just get it.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
I remember this because it was my first year on
the beat and we were at a amazing Mexican restaurant
in Houston and Zach Kiefer, my former Kobe writer, was
writing on his phone as I was you know, taking
down to taco.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
So I say all that, like we hear the phrase
often deadline super action. Yeah, well, technically there's really no
deadline in this until mid March next year. Right, But again,
in the Ballard era, these decisions typically come right before
the start of the regular season September seventh, that would be.
When asked earlier this week about Bernard Ryman and a
(30:18):
contract extension, Ballard gave the very standard quote, I don't
talk about contracts. We think he's a very good player.
We think very highly of him. I want to play
kind of the full clip here, so it's a little
bit more than ninety seconds. But again, I thought Jake
did a nice job of just kind of clarifying some
things with Bernie, who was one of the more genuine,
I think quotes on this football team. So here was
(30:38):
the Colts left tackle yesterday with Jake Querry.
Speaker 9 (30:41):
Obviously we love it here, would love to, you know,
get things done, but I'm not. I'm not involved in this.
Obviously you have you have an agent that takes care
of this. From my own saying days they are on
the same page about things.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
So you say they're not on the same page as.
Speaker 9 (31:05):
Of right, now they're not exactly the same page right now.
So but I mean, as I said, for me as
a football player, I'm I'm preparing for the season because
that's what matters.
Speaker 10 (31:13):
Yeah, I understand when you talk to your agent about it,
when he says, hey, look, they're not on the same page.
Do you think that that means just in terms of
the Colts don't want to have the discussion yet, or
the numbers themselves are way off base.
Speaker 9 (31:25):
From my understanding is that the numbers don't always quite
add up yet, you know the way they they might
value a position differently than than than my team thinks
it is.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
But you know, we're working.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
We're working on.
Speaker 10 (31:44):
Your positions one of the most valuable here. You know that, right,
Like I'll be your agent for you here. Your your
position is really important, right so obviously I'm well aware
of that. You just want to make sure they're well
aware of that, right absolutely.
Speaker 9 (31:54):
And I mean I know that my agent knows that.
Hoping the Colts know that too. But obviously for me,
it's just it's about the here and now I'm improving.
I'm working on this. We still have a I have
a guaranteed season with the Colts right now. That's what
I'm working on. That's been working towards the Super Bowl
and everything else is you know, up to people outside
(32:19):
of yeah right.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Here, Okay, James, when you heard that yesterday again Bernard
Ryman Allen Quier and Company with Jay Querry yesterday from
Colts Camp, your reaction was.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
What, Wow, he broke rank. And that tends to happen,
as I alluded to earlier, when guys want to get paid,
because if you remember, and it isn't the same because
Jonathan Taylor is a running back, so his position has
kind of been devalued in the NFL throughout the years.
Left tackle will always be important because of obviously right
handed pastors being the prenominant pastors in the NFL. So
(32:51):
I thought it was interesting to hear him kind of
like JT did a few years ago, break from the
team company lines and say wait a second, I want
to get paid. And he talked about you know, when
Jake thankfully clarified like, hey, just to be sure you're
not talking about timeline, you're talking about money, and he
was like, yeah, the numbers aren't there, and hope they
value my position. And so I would expect, you know,
(33:14):
maybe to purpoor a little water on the tension here,
this to get done because it just makes too much sense,
not to Kevin, but it did sound like Bernard Ryman
and his representation aren't afraid to say you need to
pay me, I'm valuable, which is very true. I mean,
whenever he does get this done, I would think that
he's gonna be a top ten paid left tackle in
(33:35):
the NFL.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Yeah, let me be very clear, you have to get
this done. I mean, this is I don't care who
the GM is.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Yeah, it doesn't matter who the GM is, who coaches,
who the quarterback is. Left tackles who are as good
as Bernard Ryman have to get paid well.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
And like you can get in some technicalities when we
talk about Alex Pierce's contract.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Situation, Yeah, it's not the same at all.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
For example, Alec Pierce also in the contract your same
draft as Bernard Ryman. But like there's no Ady Mitchell
at left tackle. Hee thought that you have this waiting
in the wings guy, And let us not forget Braiden
Smith's a free agent, right and that's your other tackle.
And you know the thought here, I think is Jalen
Travis would take over for Braden Smith potentially as early
(34:14):
as next year. So it needs to get done. I
you know, Chris Ballard's precedent indicates it will get done.
I know we're in the camp right now with Ballard,
and you know, I mean I wrote the dude should
be fired last year, so clearly you know where I
stand on the fence. But we're in the camp with
(34:35):
Ballard that anything that is said or done about him,
people are just like, oh, I hate him, but now
he's the biggest idea in the world. That's the dumbest thing. Yeah,
But I bring that up to say this, James, who's
the best player the Colts have let walk in the
Chris Baward era.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Oh, that's a good question.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
The quality football players they have let leave the building.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
In my short time that I don't have would define it.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
I was gonna say, I mean I might grasp if
I say Stefan Gilmour or somebody like that.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Yeah, I was just gonna be for a trade. So
I would say Bobby Ocaraka like, oh.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
That's a good one. But even then we didn't view
that as like, oh, we were just like, you know what,
you have a bunch of linebackers exactly, and that you
scouted that person very well.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Well, right, right, So I say that to say, like,
you know, basically all of the draft picks that Ballard
has had, the good ones, the one that hit day,
they have re signed. So past president would indicate this
is going to get done. And look they have a
month and a half now. The one part of Ryman's
answer that I found particularly interesting there that I would
wholeheartedly disagree with if Chris Boward's stance is really this
(35:49):
right now with the Colts, is the positional value we're
talking about left tackle in the NFL. I mean, we're
not talking about long snapper. Yeah, we're not talking about
a full back. Yeah, I mean, what is the one
that just when I heard that as the reasoning behind,
you know, I could maybe hear Ryman was an older
draft pick. You know, he's battled a couple of injuries.
(36:09):
We want to see him play out of fourth year. Like,
if you want to get into a little bit of
that in terms of in the weeds, I could listen
to it. But the position, this is a dude that's
paid running backs, he's paid linebackers, he's paid guards. You
sure it's help better pay a tackle. I agree.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
I did wonder for a little bit, and I think
it would be honestly a poor decision. Could they use
a tag on him and then stretch this out. That
is a possibility, and they haven't deployed the franchise tag
very often throughout the Chris ballert of tenure, and I
believe Pittman might have been the first time under the
Chris Ballet regime that they use it. First time it's
Pat McAfee actually for the team itself, but I thought
(36:49):
that that might be a possibility. But to me, the
longer you wait, the more expensive he'll become, especially if
he comes out this season and has another great start
to the campaign. So to me, try to get it
done now, which I still think that that something would
happen before the season starts, because again, what are you
waiting for? What does it matter? And at this point,
if they're negotiating numbers and they said they're not close
(37:10):
to me, I wonder if that's about the guaranteed money
versus the annual average. I know we talk about that
a lot as far as contracts, and that's the first
thing I do. Get the calculator out oh, so and
so and so got five years one hundred and twenty million.
How much is that over five years? But the reality
is from most players and really if you're a team building,
you're worried about guaranteed money and when is that out
in the contract. So that's probably what they're having over
(37:31):
in my opinion, because talking to you know, agents around
the league, you know, having a few people I've talked
to behind the scenes here with the Colts and with
other franchises, you understand that oftentimes when there's hold ups
in contracts, it is guaranteed money that is the biggest
sticking point.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Yeah, the franchise tax an interesting point you bring up,
And I did think this when you know, we started
to get a little bit more into Hey, it's Carli
Ursa Gordon's time to lead the operation. Is there any
I guess mandate from ownership that says no extensions?
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Yeah, now again, which would not make any sense. Someone
would have to, you know, have a little week andumption.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Wee get there. Mister Boyd. We could have Max Bowen
be the Colts GM.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
Bernard Ryman needs to be the left hack absolutely, So
I don't, especially considering what you have behind him, which
is not very promising.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Yeah, no, I think that's a human I mean, are you.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Sure you want to? I mean, let's not forget what
it used to look like. That's the other thing. Don't
take it for granted. Matt Pryor, Yeah, that was my
first year on the beat. Heejan Fisher and correct me
if I'm wrong. Bernard Ryman is basically the the best
left tackle and the most solidified left tackle. Dave Hadsins,
Anthony Costanzo.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Yeah, A few people have thrown out some names on
the YouTube chat. Did Nico Autrey? You know, qual play
That's a good one. You know, I probably should have
thrown in the cave of let okay, like in their prime,
still in their twenty and I know, I.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Guess it would argue that, yeah, still had some good
years left.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Certainly, but you know, there's not many I guess ballor
draft picks that he lets walk that have proven themselves
right in the league. Will Fries people mentioned in here, Yeah,
I could. I could hear that out, but again, for
the most part, it doesn't happen very often, so I
would assume something still gets done here. And if there's
(39:16):
one aspect to that, Ryeman answer that I certainly almost
hurled up the lunch. It was the positional value comment there.
I thought Tyler Warren had a flasher. Two yesterday there
was a low ball by Richardson thrown on a rollout
to the right that Warren snagged and it was just
one of those bailouts. It was just one of those
like I don't know if I don't think a Colt's
(39:38):
tight end has caught that ball since Jack Doyle like
it was. It was just, yeah, it was not in
the ideal catch radio. It didn't allow Warren to have
any yak any yards after catch. Yeah, but he caught
it and he had a call. He had a catch
from each quarterback and eleven on eleven. So after a
quieter day one, I didn't think Tyler Warren got involved.
There was a fastball from Jones that grazed off his hands.
(39:58):
You know, that's one of those kind of gray area
drops that you could debate.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
Oh I counted as a drop, did you?
Speaker 5 (40:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (40:04):
I did, yeah, mainly because I'm like, if it's supposed
to be that dude, and I'm sure I viewed like
this too, how would he grade himself? He probably tells
his drop.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Probably yeah, probably calls it a drop. But all in all,
even with that, I thought a better day for more
and it just more activity towards it. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
I think he even got a little bit more involved
in seven on seven as well. To your point about
the Anthony throw to him, it was a little bit
low and kind of reminding me of what Gronk used
to do all the time, which is probably why he's
one of the best, if not the best. I didn't
ever a bit of a shoe string kind of lower
calf catch, and if that ball is thrown sort of
at his mid line, at his waist or at his chest,
(40:41):
extra five yards and you could see Anthony kind of
beating himself up in the offensive backfield because he's thinking
to himself, most likely, dang, yes, he bailed me out.
But in a game situation, if it's third and seven
and I hit him and he only can get five
because I didn't give him a good ball, that's still not,
you know, something that's very helpful for us. And so
(41:01):
I wonder, just again a little bit off here and
there for Anthony. But to your point, Kevin, outside of
the interception, which I think was just a weird kind
of fluky throw. He hasn't been all over the place
too much. And I know some people will say, well, James,
the first vio you posted on the first day of camp,
when he was warming up, he missed Molly cost across
the middle by I got a few feet over his
head to yes, I understand that. But for the most
part it hasn't been too crazy. It's just I wonder
(41:24):
how many good to great plays he needs to stack
to win that starting job over Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
That is the voice of James Boyd. I am Kevin Bowen.
Thank you to Cam Blakenship. On any relation to Rodrigo Camp, None, did.
Speaker 4 (41:39):
I see hot Dang you know what? But he was
related to him. He just cut him off after everything
went down a couple of years ago, after the Houston game.
He's been exiled. I thought I saw hot Rod.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Had a good year kicking in like the I don't
know CFL, XFL, one of those leagues out there all right.
On the other side, a goal has been set for
Loud through lat too, and he's got a restaurant that
he enjoys, the Door Dash here in Central Indiana. You
will chat and play that interview for you with Laotu
latsu coming up on the other side. This is the
fan morning show here Friday from Colts Camp. We'll get
(42:10):
to our combo with Laotu latsu here in a few
Colts training camp starting to come to life. I think
that brief little rain cloud that was over us hopefully
hit us to the north, so we are good to
go here again. Practice ten am to eleven fifteen. Not
a lot of morning practice left Monday Tuesday. That's it
from a morning practice standpoint here at Colts Camp. Before
(42:33):
we get to Latsuo, James, I did one thing from yesterday.
It's kind of late in the show, but the Colts
did announce some veteran rest days DeForest Buckner, Taekwan Lewis,
Braden Smith, and Kenny Moore the second Again, the bar
might be a little low. Obviously, there were a lot
of fans that were like, wait, at rest day on
day two of training.
Speaker 4 (42:52):
Camp, you're supposed to be well arrested.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Maybe if we'll forget this, James Day took day two
off last year. The whole team they didn't even practice
on day to a training camp last year, so on
the rest meter they actually are a little bit hunh
you're giving them credit for that than they were last year.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
The bar is low, very low. But what I can't
limbo underneath that thing?
Speaker 1 (43:13):
What did you make of the four rest days or
maybe the people that were on that rest list.
Speaker 4 (43:17):
I was fine with it. I can't overreact too much
to it. And honestly, if Forest Buckner says I'm not practice,
and I'm like, you know what you've played through probably
every the.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
Players matter to you, I guess is what I mean?
Speaker 4 (43:26):
Absolutely yeah. I mean you can't be Anthony Richison or
Daniel Jones coming over saying, oh, you know I need
a rest day. No, you don't. You're gonna go out
there and compete. So I thought the guys that they
did have rest, which I believe it was the Forest
Buckner and Taekwon Lewis, Kennymore the second and Braden Smith,
they're all established, they all know their roles, they're all
very roll defined and so if anything, it gives you
(43:46):
a chance to see what the other guys can bring
to the table. And so, for example, without Kennymore in
there yesterday, we got a chance to see Justin Wallay,
the rookie out of Minnesota in the slot yesterday even
more of them. He was on the outside on day one,
on the inside in day two, and again he continues
to turn heads here at camps. Little things like that
I thought was a bit interesting, just kind of see
who's going to be that next person up and if
(44:07):
they can kind of gain some reps and knowledge there.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
Before we get to the second year pass thrusher from UCLA,
I meant to ask him if he's going to go
down to that IU Ucla game in Bloomington this year.
I believe that's on a Colts home game weekend before
we get to lot too. Going back to last night,
Our Keys to the Game brought to you by the
Hubert Automotive Group. Check out your next car at drive
Hubler dot com, Indiana's giant automotive group. Bless you to
(44:32):
James James Boyd. Pretty balanced. You mentioned Natasha Howard. I
thought she did a whole lot and timely shot making.
I know, statistically like Kelsey Mitchell for example, definitely not
the most efficient night for herney means, but I just
thought she hit a couple timely ones there and they
were able to pull away from the aces late in
(44:53):
that game.
Speaker 4 (44:53):
And what I love about Kelsey is this. She's never
gonna stop shooting, She's never gonna become gunshy. She's going
to go out there, no no, and I think that
is why she's such a tough cover in the WNBA.
So not a super efficient night, but like you said, Kevin,
some big shots. I thought Leah Boston had a couple
of big ones l she had a big three lay
in that game as well. So again, this team continues
(45:14):
to show some resiliency which I've been very impressed with
and not to be overlooked. Sophie Cunningham four or five
from the field yesterday, three or four from three, she
is shooting a buff fifty percent, I want to say,
for like the last week and a half or something
like that. So she's been playing very, very well. And
so you're just trying to tread water, stay in the
mix and hoping that Kaitlyn Clark, oh, by the way,
(45:34):
relax on the bench a little bit, no more jumping
around doctor's orders, can get back out there and help
this team get into the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
And that is true that Stephanie White and Becky Hammonds
were the only two people in the state of Indiana
wearing a jacket yesterday.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
How do you feel about the blazer hoodie look? Because
Becky Hammond had that on it. I think it's all attached.
Are you a fan of it? I don't know if
I like that look because everyone on the aces bench,
their coaches that was wearing the blazer hoodie.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
Oh boy, I didn't really look into it that much. Okay,
is that what it was? Okay?
Speaker 4 (46:00):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's all attached.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
Wow? Was that was that Stephanie Whites too?
Speaker 6 (46:04):
Or was that?
Speaker 1 (46:04):
No?
Speaker 4 (46:05):
Stephanie had on like the starter jacket, which was really
cool by the way, Stranger Things starter jacket. Yeah, but
Becky hmmon, that's her look, that's their staff look.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
Man, it's wardrobe. I've been doing the show for four years.
No one's ever asked me and said, boy, Kevin, you
really look like you're wearing something I want in my
closet today.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
I was just curious about it. I feel like my dad,
who considers himself to be a very nice dressing. I
took my cap to Pops, but I don't know if
I like the hoodie blazer look. I feel like he's
just weird. I'm like, where one or the other, there's
no more requirements anymore.
Speaker 1 (46:33):
By the way, I tweeted out the young Jock video
last night, you know, and Maddie saying, you know, I
felt like I had rhythm, And Maddie said, it looked
like I was starting the lawnmower. Any final critiques, so
that you have largely backed me throughout this.
Speaker 4 (46:45):
No, No, I think you had you know, nice intension.
You had a little swagger over her. Absolutely, absolutely. You
gotta tell you you know your wife, Hey, you didn't
get with me just because I you know, I do radio.
I could dance a little bit, I can cut a rug, preach,
you know, preach. I'm always gassed up. Now, James Boyth
like Will Smith and Hitch right now we are alive
here and well look it's a little bit easier. We
(47:07):
already got the woman, right.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
I am that yesterday after Colts practice, this man was
absolutely drenched in sweat, but he made some time for
us here as our comblo with Laotuo Lotso, welcome back
here to Grand Park. Day two just ended for the
Innapolis Colts. It is hot and our next guest is
nodding his head at that comment right now to ltswo
is this California heat or is this a different level heat?
Speaker 5 (47:30):
Man?
Speaker 11 (47:30):
It was one hundred over the off season every day,
but this just feels worse really, Yeah, comity.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
Just the humidity.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
Yeah, you are drenched right now post practice?
Speaker 5 (47:39):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (47:39):
I mean, are you just cold shower?
Speaker 5 (47:41):
What do we shoo? Yeah?
Speaker 11 (47:42):
Coach shower, cold tubs. But shoot, we had a good day,
especially as a defense. So good to get back in
the meeting rooms and you know, critique some.
Speaker 4 (47:50):
Stuff a lot two as you look at the opportunity
you have in front of you with the departure of
Dio Dame Bow and obviously have an opportunity to have
more snaps. What's the mindset coming into this season knowing
that you're probably gonna be expected to do a little
bit more.
Speaker 11 (48:01):
Yeah, I mean just that I want to do a
lot more than I did last year. I want to
be able to make plays for my team and teams
when they need me and show up in those moments.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
The biggest challenge of a rookie year was what for you?
Speaker 11 (48:13):
Really just getting accustomed to everything, traveling and all that stuff,
and then just getting used to the play speed. Honestly,
But I mean over the off season I've been able
to work on some things and get better and feel
a lot you know good going into this training camp.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
Louianna Rumo's arrival, he spoke at his opening press conference.
Who's very high and you coming out of the draft,
in what ways do you think you kind of fit
what lou wants to do with that D line group.
Speaker 11 (48:37):
Well, I mean I'm athletic type, so you know, I
can drop, I can rush, I can play the run,
and really just you know, anything he has to me
as well as the rest of my D line.
Speaker 5 (48:45):
Group, you know we're gonna get done.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
Do you see that Trey Hendrickson position in Sincy or
is it a little different for what you will be asked
to do you think.
Speaker 11 (48:51):
Here I see in a similar way, and just in
terms of being able to use all of us in
our skills and attributes and you know, being able to
create you know, one on ones which will get us
home you know a lot, and be able to work
off each other up front.
Speaker 5 (49:05):
So it's dope.
Speaker 4 (49:06):
So I know a lot of your work obviously last
year trying to figure out how to win your matchup,
But what is it like Also in addition to being
more comfortable with the guys next to you and having
that full year under your belt. Another training camp getting
underway with some guys. Okay, I know DeForest Buck is
going to do.
Speaker 11 (49:18):
This or whatever exactly like I'm able to know who
I'm rushing with. I know, you know what Bucks likes
to do, what Grove likes to do, and you know
if I'm on the other side of Quitty yourself, so
I know how they play and I can work off
of that and be able to create some opening.
Speaker 5 (49:32):
So I mean, that's excited. It's exciting.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
So summer for you was what I know you probably
see a lot of time out with the coach Ed mcgilverroo.
I feel like he has all you guys out there,
So what was you know, we got the offensive side,
they did their thing. Did you have a chance to
work with some of your guys out there in California
or all there?
Speaker 5 (49:47):
What's so?
Speaker 11 (49:48):
I was out there with Quitty dial We're training with
Verse Sheldon Rankings. You know, just being able to pick
you know, some of the some of their brain and
stuff like that, and you know.
Speaker 5 (49:58):
Be able to you know, up my game, which was
just and yeah.
Speaker 4 (50:01):
And then what's it like to Jared Vord Verse obviously
had a great rookie season, and I'm sure you're paying
attention to at least a little bit. So what's the
mindset when you know what, Okay, this guy had this season.
I had my season. But we're friends, but I want
to make sure that you know my name is mentioned
with some of these guys as well.
Speaker 11 (50:16):
I mean exactly, We're all competitive and we all want
to be the best, just like you know, Chop had
a good year, Dallas had a good year, so you know,
we all we all fighting.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Number ninety seven. Allow to lot tos, whether it's here
live at Cults training camp after a hot one here
on day two. If you could take any skill set
from another defensive lineman in your room, what would you
take and who would it be from?
Speaker 11 (50:38):
M I would say that's a good one.
Speaker 5 (50:43):
That's a good question. Let's see.
Speaker 11 (50:47):
I would probably take like Quitty's ability to be able
to make a move off his first one and then
the second one and this third one, just being able
to you know, keep rushing in the counter. Yeah, and
I've been I've been picking up off of each one
of them. So you know, I'm super blessed to be
a part of the room that I'm in.
Speaker 1 (51:04):
Yeah, a little Birdie told us that Shane the other
night threw up the Grover throw in the Minnesota alignement
out of the club highlight in there.
Speaker 11 (51:13):
I mean, we love seeing that one in the media
room going a little bit hell yeah, especially the new
guys that came in.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
They're like, dude.
Speaker 4 (51:21):
So we had a chance to obviously get to know at
least you're def scorted right behind you actually, lou in
a room a little bit throughout the spring. What has
it been like from just some mentality standpoint. We talked
about scheme a lot, but from a no nonsense standpoint,
it sounds like he's not afraid to call anybody out.
So what has that been like for you? And how
much you appreciate a guy who, no matter your resume,
you gonna get this work.
Speaker 11 (51:41):
I was just gonna say I appreciate that I mentally,
I mean, dudes that want to get better are going
to take that criticism and going to take that coaching.
And he's someone that brings that to the table with
his you know, his mindset, and you know he's not
going to let you know, dudes b s and you
know he demands greatness and on and off the field.
So you know, I respect him a lot and makes me,
you know, want to play harder.
Speaker 4 (52:00):
And I know that secondary got a bunch of juice
added to it with you know, Tavarius Ward and camp
Bine them. And we're talking to Moody yesterday and he's
got some confidence about him a lot of confidence about him.
So when he says, hey, we want to go out
there and be a top five defense and Kenny Moore
saying the same thing, what is that like to? I
guess build the steps towards that.
Speaker 11 (52:17):
I mean, dudes like that, leaders like that, you know,
we're you know, we're going to follow and they're going
to create that standard and we're going to uphold that
standard and be able to take that onto the field
on Sundays and whatever day we're playing and be able
to go, you know, kick some ass.
Speaker 1 (52:29):
That is loud to a lot too with us here
again live in Westfield. It is Colt's training camp. The
best thing you did this offseason off the field? What
was the best thing you did Afield? Yeah, hobby anything.
Speaker 11 (52:40):
I did some hikes, you know on the weekends when
I was in LA and there's some hikes in Sacramento.
So just being able to you know, God, nature, you know,
give my mind the rest, you know, be closer to God. So,
I mean, I think that was probably the best thing
I've done.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
And I know you haven't called Indy home for a while,
But do you have a favorite restaurant, a favorite in
me that you uh uh?
Speaker 11 (53:02):
There's a Vietnamese spot called Chow that's good. We're super good.
I don't know where it's at, door dash it, but
they got a good bond Me sandwich.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
So a bond Me sandwich would taste.
Speaker 11 (53:14):
Like what like a like a sandwich just with like
steak in it and a bunch of like cucumbers, lettuce
and then their own like you know, Vietnamese sauce and
stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Sure us, you're talking to the palette of a couple
of third graders here, Dino nuggets here. I can't blame that.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
It's only once a week.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Judging me here over overla shoulder. Honestly, the best thing
about having kids is I can just eat their food
and I'm just like, all that mac and jeese you
don't want to eat, put it right in my belly.
Speaker 4 (53:42):
Well, I got one more for you. What's last on
your brother. I know he had signed earlier this summer,
so what of those conversations has been like with him
about the transitioning, the opportunity, trying to latch on into
the NFL.
Speaker 5 (53:53):
So he's been locked in.
Speaker 11 (53:54):
You know, he's asked me a couple of questions that,
you know, help him put a step ahead.
Speaker 6 (53:58):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (53:58):
When he went out to Buffalo early facility working out, growing,
you know, trying to get smarter in the in the room.
So you know, he wants to be the best and
I can't I can't wait for him to go kill
it too.
Speaker 4 (54:09):
And for those listening, uh, is it Kalecki?
Speaker 5 (54:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (54:11):
Yeah, So he walked in when he got drafted. You know,
laut brought his family yea, and then he walks in.
I'm okay, that's obviously the football player. His brother walks in.
I'm like, wait a second, this is the little brother,
and like, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (54:24):
So I thought we could feel the roster.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Yeah yeah, I was like, hold on, wait a second.
So he's got some talent too, And I'm glad you're
you know, giving him a couple of tips and.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Ropes that love.
Speaker 5 (54:32):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
Let's let's end with this YouTube goals individually, what would
be that for you?
Speaker 11 (54:38):
Well, shoot, I want at least more than eight sacks,
and I'm striving for, you know, a sack of game
and you know, just being able to go out there
on the field and you know what my team and
my what my team and my teammates demanded me. I
want to be able to go and do that and
fulfill that.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
That is number ninety seven for the Annapolis Colt slaugh
To lot to. It is a big second year role
coming up for him. Stay heal, healthy, stay cool and go.
Speaker 5 (55:01):
Sure. I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
That not two year two James Boyd that gold number
eight ish sacks. You know, I don't know if he
wanted to remember a spring conversation we had with him
and I asked him, you know, did you hit the
proverbial rookie wall. Yeah, and I don't think he wanted
to go there. If you look at him statistically, though,
I want to say the last five games last year,
(55:24):
James A lat two did not have a sack, a
quarterback hit, or a tackle for loss.
Speaker 4 (55:29):
Yeah, so it's.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
Hard to say he didn't hit that wall. What do
you think you think? Eight North of eight sacks as possible,
I certainly think so.
Speaker 4 (55:40):
It also depends on how much playing time he gets.
Is he able to solidify himself as that true number
one defensive end or at least a starting defensive end
next to Quity Pay. And if that is the case,
I think he'll have plenty opportunities to get after the quarterback,
especially with the revamped Luenarumo defense. But I did want
to point out that for as much as we've talked
about Jared Verse and how great he was last year,
(56:02):
and nothing to take away from him, because he was
indeed great. He really, in my opinion, exploded in the
playoffs for him and off the rams. But if you
look at both players's numbers statistically from last year, I
was a little bit shocked, honestly, Gonna look back and
looked at it myself. Four and a half sacks of
Jared Verse, two forced fumbles like got two Law two.
(56:22):
Four sacks, three forced fumbles. Now, obviously there's more context
to all those things when it comes to you know, pressure,
raid and time in the backfield and things of that nature. However,
I thought that, you know, from just the raw standpoint
of data, it wasn't this huge, huge discrepancy where I'm like, man,
one guy just completely smoked the other guy. I thought
that Laotu had some opportunities he might have just missed.
(56:45):
And I do wonder if a slightly more aggressive defense
Kevin will allow you to get that extra half second
to get to the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
Boy. This might sound wild, but when I saw a
lot Too yesterday, I mean that man was drenched in sweat.
Speaker 4 (56:58):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
By the way, is this is your first song, last
rock of the week.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
Yeah, I've been leaving in my car on accident. And
I finally remember that the YouTube chat would probably yell
at me if I thought forgot him for a third day.
They were gonna just tell me what you must want
to go blind? So I got to shaved. I don't
think I looked pretty suave.
Speaker 1 (57:12):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I almost then recognize you. When
I saw a Lats yesterday, I mean again, he looked
like a man that had just spent five hours out
and then just dead heat. He needed a cold shower. Yeah,
I said, you know what on the agenda this afternoon,
I need to go restock my beer fridge. So that's
what I did.
Speaker 4 (57:33):
I don't think that was on his agenda. I think
he told us what cold tub, ice tub, everything else?
Speaker 1 (57:38):
It was pathetic, how satisfying a feeling I got putting
the beer in the fridge yesterday, and honestly, you know
what I thought of as I was doing it? Okay,
well one, I was like, you know, okay, how can
I justify this? How can I spend so well? We
got some new neighbors and you never know, you know,
maybe they might pop over right right, I want to
be friendly to them. But every time I started to
(57:59):
put another beer in the fridge and I could feel
the cold air of the fridge and felt I was reassured,
I thought to myself, I can't wait for college football. Okay,
I love college football so much.
Speaker 4 (58:12):
Can I tell you? As someone who did not watch
out of college football growing up, blame my father. I
have learned to love it, and I do miss it.
I missed the craziness. I told you the other day.
I loved the argumentative nature of it when it comes
to scheduling rivalry games. All of it is petty, but
it's amazing and honestly the environment wise, I do want
(58:35):
to in my life, hopefully get to some of the
bigger college games, not like I don't need to go
to a national championship and all that. I mean just
true rivalry like white out at Penn State.
Speaker 5 (58:46):
Hold.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
I went to Georgia, Tennessee a couple of years.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Exactly, so I'm looking forward to it mainly because.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
Although neland stadium said dump, that thing was fair book
on the concourse.
Speaker 4 (58:55):
But at the same time, though, if you are just
content of that going into it, and you're there for
the vibes, good time, what's better than that? And honestly,
I spent so much time in airports because of the roads,
the schedule that we have, and I'm usually trying to
schedule my flights early enough so I can land in
whatever city before the first collegootball games kick off that day.
(59:15):
I respect that, So I don't care if the flights
had seven on a Saturday, or are you get up that early?
Because I need to be able to sit down and
watch some big ten game.
Speaker 6 (59:22):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Can you get behind the appreciation by find a well
stopped beer fridge?
Speaker 8 (59:28):
Of course? Why not? Yeah, like you said, new neighbors
might stop by. You want to have something in the fridge.
You don't want to be like, h we don't really
have anything, So.
Speaker 1 (59:35):
No, not at all. It's not a good look.
Speaker 8 (59:38):
Then those neighbors can say, you know what, I don't
need to go to the who's your hospitality?
Speaker 1 (59:41):
I do a question by the way, a couple, who's
your loggers? I did in the back of the fridge.
I kind of forgot I had those.
Speaker 4 (59:47):
So for you all with small children, when it's hot
like it is throughout this week, do you have the
kiddie pool? Do you have the sprinkler system? Because I
feel like kids as soon as it gets hot like
this and you tell them, hey, you want to go
get way, and they're like, oh yeah, they're just they're
already outside trying to fill water balloons or run around
and they're screaming they want to chase you down with
the water holes. Is that part of the initiative at
(01:00:07):
home these days?
Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
Thousand percent? I mean I think I've told you this.
I mean, Max Bowen's been naked for probably about the
past eight days as we're potty training him, so it
honestly works well. I could not believe how many little
kids were I practice yesterday. Yeah, I mean I get
they're not back to school yet, but I mean still,
I mean yesterday was hot.
Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Yeah, yeah, we've got the way you smoked some little
kids yesterday in the forty.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
Oh but yeah yeah yeah. So okay, So I'm over there,
you know, shout out to West Tall. You know, a
friend of ours from from our kids pre school. Uh
he said that his two boys were here. So I
was trying to go over to the kid zone to
uh spot him out. And next thing I know, I
see James Boyd signing a waver from.
Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
I'm like, I know I had to sign one.
Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
He's signing a waiver to run the forty. He cut
about thirteen kids in line to run the four.
Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
No, I did not that game.
Speaker 8 (01:00:58):
Excuse me, young and get out of my No.
Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
I did the Bill Belichick, he got it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
He got in the blocks and he tried to be
Usain Bolt And.
Speaker 4 (01:01:06):
Yeah, what was it clock that got four to seven eight?
Hand hand held time's respectable time, respectable time for to seven.
Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
I did feel in the Hampshire Rivals dot Com and
their recurring profiles, I'm like, wait, did your high school
coach stop watch you? Or is that a Is that
an actual?
Speaker 9 (01:01:21):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:01:21):
The most tumbling thing is like, yeah, you're as fast,
You're as fast as the guy on the football field
of one hundred pounds heavier than you. But Mark, I got
a kick out of that, you know, and in true
you know, hater fashion. I walked over and I told him, like,
which kid wants to lose? And it was a great
It was a great experience.
Speaker 8 (01:01:34):
Is Kevin clocking under six seconds if he does the
forty time?
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (01:01:39):
Yes, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
I'd like to think so, Mark got I think so.
The fact that Mark said that, it's just so disrespectful.
Speaker 8 (01:01:48):
Cubs. He won Oneds won one game. You're take in shots.
I'm just I'm just asking, don't fill out a waiver
during your break. You got no more live reads the
rest of the show, go do do it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
I don't know if I'm more afraid of anything life
than getting hurt doing that.
Speaker 8 (01:02:02):
That's so soft.
Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
Maybe you imagine Taron Achieley is running the forty and
here we get he got a kid coming in a
few months. I'm on the mend as madd A's you know,
thirty six weeks president, trying to walk around in this heat.
Speaker 8 (01:02:16):
Guess what you get injured. You've got a fridge stock
with fresh beer that you can just sit on the
couch and rest up on.
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
You are right about that. That is the voice of
Mark Dyton, Kevin Bowen, and James Boyd live here in Westfield.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Let's check it out the morning checkdown on ninety five
and the fan.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
All right, let's go into gamebridge Field House. From last night,
it was a much needed win. The Stranger to Things
theme was alive and what Fever were able to get
it done. S Howard, very good double double for the
veteran acquisition. Uh, pretty good balance honestly without Caitlin Clark,
some timely shot making and boy that Ari McDonald's step
back there to ice it. That was big time from her.
(01:02:59):
So eighty seventy the Fever get it done. They will
be up in Chicago coming up on Sunday, day three
of cold training camp. I'm starting to put the field
together out here in Grand Park ten o'clock to eleven
point fifteen today. They'll go ninety minutes tomorrow our first
afternoon practice of training camp, four to five thirty. James Boyd.
(01:03:23):
Any grand takeaway from yesterday. We'll get more into the
quarterbacks here on the other side, but any takeaway the
week had.
Speaker 4 (01:03:30):
A Tyler Warren sighting, so that was good.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
I thought multiple Tyler Warren's.
Speaker 4 (01:03:34):
Important to get him involved on day. We'll starry losing
my voice here.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
You're good, You're good, drink some water. Tyler Warren did
have a catch from Daniel Jones and Anthony Richards the
forty yard dash, as James Boyd choked up here on
this Friday morning. So yes, Tyler Warren pretty active yesterday.
So again a little over sixty minutes today and then
tomorrow they'll conclude this longest stretch of camp, first four
days here at Grand Park.
Speaker 8 (01:03:59):
Those kids, but those kids that lost to James in
the forty yard dash with Cayenne pepper in his water
this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
I was gonna say, was that like God humbling me.
I'm sorry if I talk too much trash, but hey,
I'll take my dove's where I can get him. If
it's a kid out there, I gotta win.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Ma. I know, we dropped out the other day talking
about Carli ers Gordon in the State of the Union
with the Colts, so I was afraid we had, you know,
something else like that. Today This from Brian, he goes,
same thing happened to my forty two year old buddy
two years ago. Second child was on the way. In
three weeks, he went to play indoor soccer, blew out
his entire knee on a non contact injury. Nine month rehab.
(01:04:32):
Wife was not pleased. There's no chance in hell you
get me over there running the forty. No.
Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
There was a guy over in Germany when we went
to Frankfurt and he did a flag football challenge. It
looked like it might have been in his forties, and
he looked like he blew his knee out when we
were me and Nate Atkins for me, and he started
watching it, and I was just thinking to myself, not
only did you probably tear something in your knee, you're overseas.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
I can still picture Alumni basketball a few years ago
and this dude breakaway layup towards ACL I can still
I can picture right now on the floor. Speaking of basketball,
did you see yesterday we knew Michael Grady would be
doing some NBC action with the NBA shifting over there,
Robbie Hummel sounds like we'll do some games as well.
So of course Humble seemingly does every college basketball game
(01:05:14):
that I'm watching, He'll also do some NBA.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
Actually weird because having j Billson a couple of NBA
games last year as well kind of threw me off,
but he did well.
Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
Yeah, so he'll be part. You know, he's done some
peacock stuff of course NBC there, so shout out to
Robbie Hummell again. Busy weekend from a racing standpoint, Laguna
Seca for Indy car obviously, the brickyard here in town
sounds like the Justin Fields injury is not too severe
at all. Dislocated toe, but thinking and Rappaport just tweeted
that he actually could take part some individual drills today,
So crisis averted there for the New York Jets. Quiet
(01:05:45):
day on the diamond. The Indianapolis Indians have won three
straight to start this home stand. On the other side,
what to make of the quarterback battle? What do expect
now as we transitioned into day three, we will hit
on that. It's Kevin Bone and James Boyd, Mark Tykon
back in studio. Day three o'clock.
Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
You're listening to a fan morning show on Sports Radio
ninety three five and one oh seven five. The fans
hogging the hell.
Speaker 4 (01:06:15):
You're damn right here.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Don't get a long story here, on whose side is
they don't you want? Are you talking about side? What
are you talking about? Yeah, sir, get him hug again,
don't get him?
Speaker 1 (01:06:28):
Good by, come on to get some of this now,
who's back down?
Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
Mars, I'll hugget.
Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
A rod ho?
Speaker 7 (01:06:39):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (01:06:40):
Good of God?
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
And see the third yet ann that? Hell? It's gone
on here he'll kking.
Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
That's very try say hey, that's a sorry man.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Look at manufacture. Oh my god, what the hell has
got out? Oh my god? Are you kidding me? Probably
the Lord shut he given to professionalist.
Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
Rest in peace to Hull Cogan family announce passing away
a yesterday. What was the age mark seventy one?
Speaker 8 (01:07:11):
Seventy one in complications from next surgery that he got
back in May. I guess that they said that all
of a sudden he was having trouble talking and then
he just took a turn for the worst health wise
and all that, and then yeah, all of a sudden
suddenly passed away. So seventy one years old. But obviously
I had some historic moments, some of the most the
greatest heel turn in pro wrestling history when he turned
(01:07:31):
and joined the nWo and WCW and while he had
some personal life issues and all that stuff, there's no
doubt he had a mark on professional wrestling the likes
of which I've never seen as he brought it into
the mainstream.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Who's bigger Hulk Cogan, The Rock?
Speaker 8 (01:07:47):
I would say, Hull Cogan. He is multi generational. I
mean my uncle who hasn't watched wrestling in forever. He's
always like, gu was Hulk Hogan still wrestling? Like no, No,
he's long retired and stuff like that. But you mentioned
pro wrestling to even like a grand or something like that,
and I think they would say, oh, yeah, the Hull
Cogan guy.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
They know him from that that solely based off of
just wrestling careers mark, because I'm just asking because that's
like The Rock is now like a pop star kind
of guy.
Speaker 8 (01:08:11):
I would agree that The Rock, the Rock is the
new version of Hull Cogan, But the whole Hul Cogan
is the og as far as that, like, like wrestling
was always like territorial and everything like that back in
the eighties and all that, and then when he joined
WWF at the time, he kind of brought it with
Cindy Lauper and everything. The whole wrestle the first WrestleMania
and all that. The popularity skyrocketed, and all of a sudden,
they're on MTV and they're doing all this other stuff.
(01:08:33):
So he brought into the forefront Alvis and he's doing
cameos and Rocky movies and and all that stuff. So
he was the the first big pro wrestling star that
that made it into the limelight and was all of
a sudden hosting Saturday and Live and all that stuff.
So he is the mainstream pro wrestler. So the rock
has followed since then, but Hull Cogin was Hogan was
the first.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Will carle Er say Gordon stay on the sidelines a
little bit on that here in a few minutes, James Boyd,
I'm simply just relaying the message from some people. But
some have questioned your forty yard dash time. I believe
you said four seven eight.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
It's on the video. It's in the video.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
You can see it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
They were saying, maybe the stopwatch the young volunteer, maybe
a little bit of a slow finger.
Speaker 4 (01:09:18):
To him, and so, oh, you know what, this is
what I always say to the haters. See it, meet it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
So if you got and watch the video on time
at ourselves.
Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
Sure, well free. It's my thing is.
Speaker 8 (01:09:30):
If it's a slow finger, that means he was faster right.
Speaker 1 (01:09:33):
No, no, no, I mean he's not starting it all.
Speaker 4 (01:09:35):
Oh, I got I get what you're saying. I think
he meant you stopped it late. Okay, No, Well, here's
my thing. For those out there, you know, who are
hating on the forty time, get out here and run.
This is like when we have the All Star snubs
every year. They're like, no, no, so and so on
and so it's an All Star. Well, who's gonna be
off the team. So if you call it my forty time,
I just want to see you get out there hard fare.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Hard to argue against that. That is James Boyd. I'm
Kevin Bowen.
Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
We are live here in stretch. I stretched. I felt
it in my hand strings.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Afterwards, you better stretch. Yes, Jamie learned the hard way.
Nine o'clock gates will open up here for Colt City
ten o'clock to eleven fifteen today, A little bit longer
from a practice time standpoint. We mentioned this earlier in
the week. JJS Tankovitz Colts dot Com did a really
nice job on a piece with Carl ors Gordon and
I don't know. A state of the union's a phrase
that's coming in my mind, but that's probably wrong. It's
(01:10:22):
more of kind of her vision in how she used
the organization and now being the lead voice of her
three sisters. And in the piece she did or JJ
pointed out that Carly acknowledged that she doesn't think she
can be on the sidelines or in team meeting rooms forever.
But obviously she's pointed out the knowledge that she feels
(01:10:44):
like she's gained from those areas. You surprised by that
doesn't sound like we'll see we still see her out
of practice. She's been out here, Yeah, notebook in hand
each of these first two days. You surprised that she is,
you know, apparently going to dial it back a little
bit from the sline or meeting room involvement a.
Speaker 4 (01:11:02):
Little bit, but not too much, Kevin, because I do
think that with the new roles principal owner, there's obviously
going to be a lot more responsibility within that. It's
like when Shane Steichen mentioned transitioning from going from an
offensive coordinator to now being a head coach. There's just
probably so much, so many more things that come across
your desk that usually were sent to your father. You know,
(01:11:22):
if you're Carlie ers Gordon, where now you have to
handle a lot more things that perhaps we can we
don't see as principal owner duties. And honestly, that is
a question I will have for her perhaps a year
from now, whenever we get a chance to talk to
her after her first season, is what are some things
that came your way as a principal owner that you
maybe didn't anticipate or didn't really understand, or whatever the
(01:11:43):
case may be, just as far as a learning curve.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
Yeah, you know when she said that answer a couple
I guess months ago at this point about the involvement
you know, in listening to the in game conversations in particular,
I thought that really stood out to me as like
that makes total sense because at that point you get
raw e motion, You really hear who's right, who's wrong,
who's offering important intel. I think an NFL game day,
(01:12:10):
there's just so much parody in this league that things
can shift on you know, one singular play. Yeah, and
if all of a sudden you get whatever the right
play call, or you have a better understanding of who
ran the wrong route or who didn't fill this gap defensively.
I think it can offer some insight over time, and
by that I mean this. You know, if for three
(01:12:30):
straight weeks you're listening on the headset and you feel
like Jim Bob Cooter's you know, had three pretty good
suggestions of Shane Seconds using the game, You're gonna sit
there and say, well, when it's hard to evaluate offensive coordinator,
you know, maybe Jim Bob Cooter should hang around, for example,
things like that. So I don't know, maybe the presence
of her on the sideline bothers some people, but when
she explained it, I'm like, that makes total sense to me.
(01:12:50):
And she obviously threw in there, you know, when you're
making million dollar decisions and you know, hard to argue
against that. So I get that was in the coulttot
com piece via JJ stink of Its in his conversation
with carly ERSA. Gordon. All right, coming up to on
the other side, we'll get you set on day three
of Colts training camp. What happened quarterback wise? What context
is there to provide with that for you? Coming up next,
(01:13:14):
Tony East gonna join us at nine o'clock. The sun
is out. Looks to be another nice, another steamy day
here at Colts training camp. We are live in Westfield.
It's Grand Park ats day three of Colts Camp. Honestly,
this is a song that they should have been playing
as I was restocking the beer fridge last night. Let's
go college football.
Speaker 4 (01:13:34):
Yeah, that would have me hyped. We'd have of someone
on Twitter reach out and say, hey, we keep ours
in the cooler year round. Harley D reached out and
said the beer fridge is just a backup. We keep
drinks on ice in a large cooler year round.
Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
Man, boy, that sounds like chess, not checkers. Yeah, man,
Harley D. That is impressive, brother, Good for you on
that front. By the way, shout out to the beatball
squad Indie Thunder. Thank you to Darnell for the They're
playing today at noon for a spot in the championship
game that would be against Philly. Looks like one versus two,
(01:14:07):
double elimination round, So good luck to them. Mark, you
said we had a caller earlier, Dave was at his
name asking about the QB competition.
Speaker 8 (01:14:15):
Yeah, Dave wanted your guys' opinion. Obviously, seeing Colts Camp
up close and personal the last couple of days, how
legit this actual quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel
Jones was.
Speaker 1 (01:14:26):
Well, James, I guess I'll offer a little bit of
thoughts and feel free to follow up. It is more
legit early in camp than I thought. You know, I
had the question entering camp, when would it get to
a fifty to fifty split, And right now we're there.
I mean it has been through two days. It's a
fifty to fifty split. Richardson a little bit more on
day one, Jones a little bit more yesterday. So if
(01:14:50):
you're asking just the battle itself, yeah, I mean I
think it's a real battle. And again I had a
question about that at the start of camp. Up now.
I don't know if Dave was asking him this light,
but if you're asking, how like you know, how upper
quality or how you know legit is the competition from
(01:15:12):
a high end standpoint, I'd say not very high end
at all.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
Yeah, it's been.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
It's a competition. I wouldn't call it a great competition.
Speaker 4 (01:15:23):
The fact that you have to just use the literal
definition to get through it kind of speaks to the
nature of the quarterbacks on it.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
I mean, I'm trying to be serious here, like I mean,
it is no I think what you said with a
very statement, they are battling to be the Week one
starters Miami Dolphins. So far. I get why people look
at this quarterback room and think it's thirty two out
of thirty two in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:15:44):
Yeah, because I haven't seen anything that's wowed me. I
haven't seen either quarterback, you know. So there's great command
of the offense, and obviously you'd like to see more
of that from Anthony because he's been here longer as
far as in this system, in this offense. But he's
been a little erratic all the place, as you mentioned,
throughout both these shows or all these shows out here
throughout the week. The receivers haven't really helped them either.
(01:16:08):
And then Daniel Jones getting back to him, I think
that he's just been okay, Like I never leave practice
all these last couple of days and think, oh, they
haven't totally figured out all. This guy's taking such a
big step forward. To me, it has been kind of
what I've expected from both guys. Daniel Jones a little
bit more efficient, perhaps maybe not as explosive. But then
(01:16:30):
Anthony Richardson really hasn't had too many exposive plays either,
and he's been a little erratic. So I think this
is what reasonable Colts fans would have expected.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Yeah, I I don't think we've seen like wild inaccuracy
from either. And you know we touched on this in
the opening hour. I do think the fifty to fifty
bang bang plays with the ball in the air, the
defense has won those seemingly every single time. I mean
I would say eight out of ten, nine out of ten.
(01:17:01):
So you know that's encouraging obviously from that side of
the ball, but not from a passing offense standpoint. And
you know, I'll go back something I said about Richardson
in the opening hour, and everything needs to be contextualized
and everything has to be put on the Richardson bar.
If you watch the early periods of practice, individual periods,
routes versus a are even seven on seven. I would
(01:17:23):
say in years past, Richardson on a given day would
have three four, sometimes more than that. Just horrific misses,
I mean awful misses, ground balls, air melt, almost hitting
the rooster behind us, hitting Westfield High School, all that
bad misses, and I would say through two days the
(01:17:44):
abundance of those misses has not been at the same level. Now,
you know, when they've gotten in the team periods eleven
on eleven. Still you want a little bit more from
an efficiency standpoint. Again, I don't think the pass catchers
have helped him out, But you know, I don't know
is at a drop of encouragement. It's July twenty fifth.
I'm just telling you what I know here through two days,
(01:18:05):
or what I have observed here through two days. But yeah,
I think your assessment of Jones is largely there. You know,
it's been mostly Deacon dunk. We'll see what happens on
a third down day like potentially today or tomorrow is
and for richards like Richardson's interception yesterday, it didn't bother
me as much as maybe some other interceptions would bother me.
That Richardson picked yesterday was a poor throw on a
(01:18:28):
throw he usually makes, Like that was a thirty yard
ball down the sideline that Juju Brent's just kind of
basket caught. It was an awful throw. But I'm like, well,
at least Richardson has shown that I'd rather see him
improve on the short underneath stuff, or he must improve
versus the longer ball stuff. I know that's in there.
Speaker 4 (01:18:48):
If that makes sense, I'll be honest, Kevin, that sounds
like a lot to try to bend it into a positive.
Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
Yeah, but I'm not sure bend it into a positive.
I am in reality, like I guess basketball analogy, if
ben Nickmatherin went three or four games without getting to
the foul line, but he had big time defense, I
think I would walk into the studio that next morning
and say, boy, what encouraging signs about ben Nick Gatherin
(01:19:17):
trying to become more of a complete player. I know
he can get to the foul line. He's shown that
throughout his NBA career. Anthony Richardson unquestionably has shown he
can throw the deep ball. There's no debating that. In
the NFL, he has been a very good deep ball thrower.
So like the pick yesterday, Yeah, you don't want to
see it, but I know that's in his game. Where
does he need to improve? Singles, methodical passing, boring stuff.
(01:19:41):
He doesn't have a good boring highlight reel. Second and
ten can't be third and ten. It needs to become
third and four, and again it's two days. And I
don't want to act like he looks like Drew Brees
out here, but the erratic nature that he has had
in past years in those portions of practice through two days,
I have not seen it at that level. You can
(01:20:03):
spend it however you want. You can say it's two days.
You can say I don't care. You can say he's
still gonna be a bust. Just telling you what my
eyes have seen.
Speaker 4 (01:20:09):
I think that's fair.
Speaker 9 (01:20:11):
Mo.
Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
Only thing is just Devil's advocate is like, okay, coming
off the shoulder, is all of that fine. And that's
the only thing that makes me a bit hesitant to say, Okay,
the d ball is still there. We know he can
do this, do we like, are you okay after the
you know, shutting down the shoulder? And I understand that
he went to all the doctors and they didn't have
to do anything to his shoulder, and he says, I
(01:20:32):
can hear you out there. You know he's got to
be you know more, I guess manage it. And even
when we were kind of asking him what is your
recovery process? Like will you monitor this? And he was saying, well,
you know I'm usually a little sore and this, and
then I'm like, okay, well what does that excuse me
mean for your short term and long term future and football,
not only just with the closest in general. And so
(01:20:53):
that's what makes me a bit hesitant. And honestly, again,
we're talking about competition, Kevin, make the throws that you
usually make, then, because right now, what do we have
to go off of to say this is a high
point of you? And it's again it's two days. I'm
not gonna get too high and mighty here, but through
two days of camp, what can we point to and say, hey,
(01:21:13):
that was a highlight. I think the one to Pittman
and traffic yesterday was it was a nice throw. But
other than that, what else can you look at and say,
this is where you've taken a definitive step forward. And
that's what we have we have to see because in
my opinion, all of the it has to come together.
We have to give them time. That sounds good from
Chris Ballard, that sounds good from Carli ers Gordon, But
(01:21:34):
the reality is that the clock is still ticking and
you're in year three and the other guys in your
class who are drafted just as high as you being CJ. Stroud,
being Bryce Young. The way they're viewed in their markets,
with their teams as face as the franchise is totally different.
We talked to Kenny Moore the other day, Kenny Moore
on the side of the building outside of Lucasold Stadium.
Most teams would like to have their quarterback on the
(01:21:56):
side of the building promoting their brand and their team,
not a cornerback who was still very good but hasn't
been a pro bowler since twenty twenty one. So that's
my thing with Anthony is like, what steps are you taking?
Just definitively well, we can see marked improvement. I mean
I'm seeing out here the potential, but again potential to
the backhanded compliment until you actually reach it.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
Tony, He's going to join us here in a few
AT's Teddy Fever focus. This is right to half. Every
Fever game, I pay less, the liquors get more and
payless at pay less liquors. James Boyd last night eighty
to seventy much much needed by the Indiana Fever. I
thought pretty balanced. Natasha Howard was very very solid. There
(01:22:35):
were some leaky moment. That was really a back and
forth game through about the first two and a half
three quarters, and I thought on like Tuesday night, the
Fever pulled ahead, they're late in the third, and they
are able to finish that off. They now have the
head to head tiebreaker if it'll matter with the Las
Vegas Aces.
Speaker 4 (01:22:51):
Yes, huge game last night, a huge one. I love
the step back, snatchback dagger for Mary McDonald at the end,
and she gave us the look like, yeah, I did that,
and so I've always wanted to experience that, Kevin. That
was a violent step, I know, And every time I
try to do something like that in the gym, it
comes after or before an airball. So I'll leave it
to the pros.
Speaker 1 (01:23:11):
Ninety players on the Colts roster, how many of them
do you have a faster forty yard dashtime?
Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
Though?
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
Man, I'm for seven eight for those that missed it earlier,
James Boyd and the blocks.
Speaker 4 (01:23:26):
Yet I'm hesitant to say any I'm not so sure, like.
Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
Oh stop, some of these offensive defensive linemen you can't outrun.
I mean, you go to Combine every year, they're not
They're all not.
Speaker 4 (01:23:39):
I feel like this, but this is the thing though,
I feel like if they lined up and it's just
like a true race, like maybe I can outtime them.
But if they lined up next to me, do you
think they're losing?
Speaker 5 (01:23:49):
No way?
Speaker 4 (01:23:50):
So out of ninety guys, I go, I don't know,
fifteen maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:23:55):
If you're running a legit four seven eight I think.
Speaker 4 (01:23:57):
Which is not legit. It's not like it's laser time.
Speaker 1 (01:24:01):
Gosh, you know how many people we could get to
watch that James Boyd versus Cults player in a forty
yard dash.
Speaker 4 (01:24:05):
I would actually do it too.
Speaker 1 (01:24:07):
Well. Yeah, I'm not worried about you. I'm more worried
about you know, the Colts signing.
Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
Off on that they want to get more physical.
Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Come on, tourney e Spacers Fever talk. Next, the fans
are the starting to starting to descend upon a Grand Park?
Is it family Day? Did I see that? Correct? Sun has?
Speaker 4 (01:24:29):
This is when I got to go find all my
illegitimate kids. They're out there somewhere the facility. Daddy loves you.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
See a lot of moms ducking right now as they're
walking by. James Voyd here ten o'clock start time, eleven fifteen.
We'll wrap things up at Grand park A and again
tomorrow tomorrow afternoon, four o'clock to five thirty. Out here,
let's go ahead, Mark, you said we got another pair
of tickets for the nd eleven. Is that correct? Tomorrow
night against Tulsa.
Speaker 8 (01:24:55):
Yes, sir, final pair of tickets Tulsa the yeger Mice
the USL Yegermeister Cut game against FC Tulsa tomorrow night
at Carroll Stadium at seven o'clock.
Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
All right, we're gonna make people work a little bit here,
show who's been listening this morning. Earlier, James Boyd shared
his forty yard dash time that he ran yesterday at
Colts Camp. So we need a number. It starts with
a four. I'll give you that. We need two decimal places.
He mentioned two decimal places after that four point bleep, bleep.
(01:25:28):
That's what we need. Three one, seven, two, nine, ten, seventy.
Mark Dykedon will take that for you. There as Queen
plays in the background. Here, we now will rock out
with our next guest. He is the elite guitar hero
player and the great follow for pacers in Fever Action.
He is Tony East. Tony, good morning, good morning.
Speaker 12 (01:25:49):
I was prepared to make a joke about James's forty
time being forty seconds, but then you said it was
four points something, so Joe ruined that that's not funny
Tony East.
Speaker 1 (01:25:57):
There's ninety players on the Colts roster. How many people
think James Boyd could be in a forty yard dash?
Speaker 13 (01:26:03):
Wow?
Speaker 12 (01:26:04):
If you're in the four, like, aren't iinman usually in
the fives? Right, So that's at least like twenty right there.
Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
Agreed, James, I thought sold himself short. If he's running
a four to seven eight he said he could only
beat fifteen. I'm hammering the over on that.
Speaker 13 (01:26:19):
Yeah, I am too. I am too.
Speaker 12 (01:26:20):
There's almost like some slow dudes who are there for.
Speaker 13 (01:26:22):
Other things, right, Like I think I don't know, I
don't know football well enough, but I feel like, can
you tell them special.
Speaker 4 (01:26:28):
This is the time Tony how to cut off? But
I feel like if you tell them this is the
time that some dude who's never played football in the
media has run, can you outrun him? They would like
find that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Extra gear t embarrass Melvison turned into Tyrens, That's what
I'm saying. I feel like pride and hatred, yeah, would
drive them. It's like Lily King against that Russian back
in the Olympic.
Speaker 4 (01:26:48):
There like something some nerd isn't gonna beat me.
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
Yeah, no chance at hell. Yeah, they're gonna media nerd
you once they cross the finish line. All right, Tony
East locked on Pacers that listen. I listened to it
on the way up here this morning. He was inside
a gamebridge Field ass last night. It's actually start there, Tony.
I don't want to overact to July twenty fourth WNBA basketball,
but that one just felt like it was needed.
Speaker 13 (01:27:09):
Yeah, it did.
Speaker 12 (01:27:10):
It's like the story of the Fever season, right, Like
they they keep finding a way to stay over five hundred.
They keep beating decent to good teams when they can,
and they lose to bad teams. Like it reminds me
a lot of the Pacers two years ago, and that
the quality of opponents just simply does not matter for
the Fever this year. They can win or lose any
given night regardless of who they have available. Right, and
(01:27:31):
last night was an interesting win just in that the
two stars they did have available a Leah Boston and
Kelsey Mitchell, neither of them.
Speaker 13 (01:27:37):
Were very good.
Speaker 12 (01:27:38):
They were both real the off neither of them were
you know, shooting, well, both of them were, you know,
sub ten points until about halfway through that third quarter.
But Natasha Howard, you know as James Shooter, was absolutely balling.
She was huge, and Soyvie Cunningham was steadying.
Speaker 13 (01:27:53):
They really needed that win.
Speaker 12 (01:27:55):
It was huge for their playoff outlook because they got
the tiebreaker over the Aces and the they're back over
five hundred again.
Speaker 13 (01:28:01):
So it is the summary of their season, but they.
Speaker 4 (01:28:03):
Got it at a key time, so Tony. At the
beginning of the year, Natasha Howard said that her goal
individually for the season was to win MVP. So after
last night, after out playing a league MVP and Asia Wilson,
is the MVP Natasha Howard campaign back on?
Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
No, No, it's not.
Speaker 13 (01:28:23):
She won Commissioner's Cup MVP. Does that count? Does that
me the criteria?
Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
Yes, that's what I'm saying. Look, I'm building the criteria.
I am starting the Natasha Howard MVP campaign. Might be
a little bit late as far as the campaign starting goes,
but the way she played last night in all seriousness,
what has that meant to this group, not only last
night but throughout this season? Where I feel like she
has really fit in well with this group she has, she's.
Speaker 13 (01:28:46):
Been a little bit better than I thought she'd be.
And last night was.
Speaker 12 (01:28:49):
Huge too, because the Ashes are at their best, I
would say, when their front court is clicking, and Asia
Wilson was pretty good, like she had some dominant stretches
of the game.
Speaker 13 (01:28:57):
But Howard's defense was.
Speaker 12 (01:28:59):
Really impressed in that game. And the Fever talked about
this post game, and they've talked about it a lot
throughout the seasons in various settings, but they feel like
they're at their best and their most fluid when their
offensive influenced by their defensive play, like they get enough
stops to run or they just never let the other
team go on a huge run and kind of bogg
them down or force them to switch to certain lineups.
(01:29:19):
And Howard's defense was very good in this game. Obviously
thirteen rebounds is part of that, but actually forcing stops
against Wilson, against Stokes, against whoever she was battling with
down there.
Speaker 13 (01:29:29):
And that was the part that I thought really changed
the game.
Speaker 12 (01:29:32):
And what she kind of hoped right her or MVP case,
I mean, you were there right, would be predicated on
was having a kind of resurgent defensive season. She has
been in the defensive Player of the Year conversations before,
right and at least he's won it. So to have
that kind of defensive game was huge, and that she
was pushed in transition, making plays from there, finishing in
a way that nobody else could last night. So putting
(01:29:54):
all of that together against an Aces team that doesn't
take that many threes.
Speaker 13 (01:29:57):
I only think they took fifteen last night was really
im horton.
Speaker 12 (01:30:00):
It was a big time for a big Natasha Howard game,
and the Fever got it when basically nobody else on
any sort of volume.
Speaker 13 (01:30:07):
Was any good.
Speaker 1 (01:30:08):
It's a voice to Tony East locked on Pacers Great
Listen Forbes. You can find his written work. He's with
us on the Payless Liquors hotline. Tony, your favorite Stranger
Things related theme from last night was what.
Speaker 5 (01:30:20):
Oh I do?
Speaker 13 (01:30:22):
Aren't those jerseys awesome? Can we say allowed to do
some like?
Speaker 1 (01:30:25):
And I've said all morning long, the only person wearing
a jacket in the state of Indiana. I stayed with
Stephanie White.
Speaker 13 (01:30:31):
Yeah, that thing was awesome too.
Speaker 12 (01:30:32):
I asked her about that postgame man, that might be
my favorite thing that was new, like I've seen the
jerseys before.
Speaker 1 (01:30:38):
That was a cool jadge.
Speaker 13 (01:30:40):
It was very cool. That was my first question their
postgame was orde you get that thing that was new
and different?
Speaker 12 (01:30:46):
They hadn't really rocked out with those they excuse me,
they've rocked out with those jerseys before, obviously. I think
this year is that even better timing with the show resuming.
My favorite thing, man Frett. Somehow they have a jersey
for Freddy like a stranger thinks Freddy size jersey.
Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
Is hilarious to me. They got the brands and Freddy
Fever correct.
Speaker 13 (01:31:05):
For those familiar I probably that's a good point.
Speaker 12 (01:31:08):
I should be more clear for those listening who don't
know who Freddy Fever is, look him up and tell
me what you think he is, because.
Speaker 13 (01:31:13):
No nobody knows.
Speaker 12 (01:31:14):
I have my guesses, but it's he's a He's a
frightening yet yet electric man. So I think that's probably
my favorite thing is just this massive Freddy with Stranger
Things stuff going on.
Speaker 13 (01:31:26):
But it is just spectacular.
Speaker 12 (01:31:28):
I mean, people already were wearing jerseys last time, like
people were going to the team store just to buy
Stranger Things stuff for the game.
Speaker 13 (01:31:35):
Like people love that stuff. It's so popular that.
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
Sounds like a Jake Query conversation. What is Freddy fever?
Tune in twelve to three today to query? I think
that he's a term, that's what.
Speaker 13 (01:31:47):
I think too, or a viral. Oh, I don't I
don't know about that one.
Speaker 1 (01:31:51):
Yeah, I don't know if you want to go around
marketing yourself like that Tony ship gears here to the
pacers when they get underway and whatever October coming up
this year they're starting two guard will be who.
Speaker 12 (01:32:03):
It's got to be Ben Matherin, right like, And it's
interesting because they haven't projected like that, right we keep
hearing about I think Carlile did this on a different
show a couple of weeks ago, and then Chad muckennan
on setting.
Speaker 13 (01:32:15):
The pace earlier this week, right like. They they have
said competition at the.
Speaker 1 (01:32:20):
Two and that would motivation or is this real? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (01:32:25):
I mean maybe it's real.
Speaker 12 (01:32:26):
Right, they did competition a few years ago when everybody
assumed that Jers Walker would be in the rotation. Heck,
two years ago, I thought Jeris Walker was going to
start over over topping, and then Jeris Walker wasn't in
the rotation at all, right, Like they've had competition to
determine minutes in.
Speaker 13 (01:32:40):
Spots like this before.
Speaker 12 (01:32:42):
Carlisle's about that, and I think that's totally fair for
a team that is in many ways trying to win games.
Speaker 13 (01:32:47):
But I mean, this year is like such a huge
Matherin season.
Speaker 12 (01:32:52):
They have to figure out how good he is, They
have to figure out how much they're going to pay him,
how much he fits with everybody.
Speaker 13 (01:32:57):
Obviously Halibert not playing is a miss there, but you
know they want to know that stuff like that, even.
Speaker 1 (01:33:04):
If he's not the best guy, Like they have to
know this stuff.
Speaker 12 (01:33:07):
Like it feels like it he should be the overwhelming favorite.
But I do understand, like, if they're coming from the
position of winning as many games as possible, at least
figure out if somebody fits better. And two years ago
in the in the conference finals, Haliburton gets hurt and
this they you know, they had Turner then, but they
started Nemhard Shepherd Nie Smith's Yakamna center, right like, they
(01:33:27):
started Ben Sheppard in that spot and Athern.
Speaker 13 (01:33:30):
Wasn't available at the time.
Speaker 12 (01:33:31):
But we've seen them make that choice before, so I'll
be curious what they decided to do chadby Candid. It
seem like ball handling at that spot would be important.
They don't want too much on you know, defend the
best guy all the time and handle the rock all
the time. From memhar Well, I would consider ma ethering
the best of their wings at handling.
Speaker 13 (01:33:49):
But if they love what they it'd be very good
for the Pacers.
Speaker 12 (01:33:52):
If Jaris Walker took a big enough step forward that
they could start him for his.
Speaker 13 (01:33:56):
Ball handling or whatever.
Speaker 12 (01:33:57):
But you know, I get why you want to have
a competition and give these guys a chance all the play, Marek,
because everybody in the mix is young ish or actually young.
But I feel like it has to be been matter
just to accomplish all the goals that they'll have this season,
even beyond winning basketball games.
Speaker 4 (01:34:13):
Tony, we saw the Pacers reportedly, I believe it was
your reporting they rescinded the two way offer to or
qualifying offer. I'm sorry, I believe Tenrique Freeman, and then
offered a two way contract to Peter out of Liberty.
So what can you tell us about that development and
what Taylor, Peter, Taylor.
Speaker 13 (01:34:30):
And Taylon you had it the first one?
Speaker 4 (01:34:33):
Taylor, Taylor, Peter displayed throughout the summer league.
Speaker 13 (01:34:37):
Yeah, he I mean I.
Speaker 12 (01:34:39):
Think he earned the spot right that that was our
last two red Jack Dennis Clinton Jackson had the other two.
Speaker 13 (01:34:45):
And regardless of what you think of the players, I
think they're both.
Speaker 12 (01:34:48):
Fine too way guys, like they need point guards in
those spots just because you know, with the Halliburn now
they only have two other point guards. So if that's
their way to get depth at the position, like they
might need those guys to play real games this year, great,
and they have him, so.
Speaker 13 (01:35:01):
Having two of them on two way, it does make sense.
Speaker 12 (01:35:04):
As for the Peter Freeman kind of debate, like in
summer the guy wondered what channel Peter would look like
outside of just the guy that you know the pitch
was at Arkansas Tech and liberty of make threes and
done can be athletic and like, don't get me wrong
on those are great skills, but can you do anything else?
Or like is the hope that you'll be better at
other things? And in the summer he did good things
(01:35:24):
in Vegas. He kept the ball moving, he defended it
actually pretty well with on ball reps.
Speaker 13 (01:35:29):
Like made mature plays, kept the ball moving.
Speaker 12 (01:35:31):
I would like it to Ben Shephard, and that was
impressive to me, the fact that he showed a wider
breadth of skills and just in fact he actually shot
it kind of poorly, right, He showed more more range
of ability than I think I expected, and played very
pacers e with the decisions that he made. Wasn't making
a lot of mistakes, like he earned that spot. He
played the genially good enough to get their final two
(01:35:52):
way Freeman was also very productive, Like it feels weird
to talk about one guy earning it and not talking
about Enrique Freeman, who shot like over seventy percent in
average and double level. They already have four centers, and
I probably would have tried to find a way to
keep Enrie K. Freeman as the pacers just because you know,
energy bigs that are smart.
Speaker 13 (01:36:11):
Are good players usually.
Speaker 12 (01:36:13):
But he'll be twenty five on like Friday or excuse me,
on like Monday, I think, and he's worse than their
other four centers, Like is it actually a development project
or a talent project? And maybe neither, right, So it
was hard to say exactly how he'd fit in this
exact season. If you don't think you're gonna keep him
on a two way were sending the offer, he might
have chances or opportunities to get a two way or
(01:36:36):
centard deal elsewhere and let it figure out there. So
it's not a guarantee that he'll be gone, right, They
could still sign him, but I would surmise that if
he's not a restricted free agent, given that the Pacers
have four centers, the best place for Nrieka Freeman is
not Indiana. So it seems like they've settled their roster
mostly to this point.
Speaker 1 (01:36:52):
Now, Tony, we will end with this and as always,
we greatly appreciate your time. Hopefully some quiet time is
on the horizon in the month of August. I promise
we won't bother you as much as we have. The
biggest thing that happened last night inside of gamebridge Field House,
Tony shared via Twitter fan named Emma just won the
free throw challenge during this stoppage, making four in thirty
(01:37:17):
seconds while the other contestant made three. Now, this is
directly from Tony's Twitter. Tony ads Emma was on the
line for every single attempt need an official ruling, So
outside of Emma's father knocking on the door of Tony
East last night.
Speaker 4 (01:37:38):
This was like a skill slade.
Speaker 6 (01:37:41):
How do you rate it?
Speaker 1 (01:37:43):
I occasionally will see this in a timeout or a
halftime show. You know, the rules itself might not be
administered to the detail that's necessary, and if we're on
opposite hoops, it could impact the integrity of the competition.
So you're ruling would be what.
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
I love you, Emma, I'm glad you're out there, but man,
gotta give you that ale. I gotta go to there.
I gotta go to the booth. I gotta, you know,
rescind some checks and nah bumped that. No, life is
about winning and losers.
Speaker 1 (01:38:14):
All right, all right, Tony clarity any statement from the
Pacers Sports and Entertainment. Immediately I reached out to the
w for comment.
Speaker 13 (01:38:27):
We'll see if they get back to it.
Speaker 1 (01:38:29):
Well, easy, now, So, uh did you know was there you?
Could you find the audible groan? Could you feel the
audible grown from the crowd? Did they express you?
Speaker 12 (01:38:41):
The girl who lost was taking real free throws like
dribble behind the line, the other girls on the line
taking jumpers going forward.
Speaker 1 (01:38:49):
It was like a crime of you know what, everything.
Speaker 4 (01:38:54):
I'll throw this out there, Tony, Now, if you're doing it,
based off of time. I got time for the whole routine. Now,
musclem and get the shots up, because you're real. He
bought a dribble to the right three times. Spin the ball. You'
got top of that.
Speaker 5 (01:39:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:39:10):
See, I don't know, I'm not I'm not feeling good
about the integrity of either side. You gotta give him
some tips to win this thing, Tony. You're Tony was
a great free throw. Did you know Tony never missed
a free throw in high school? That's true, never missed
a free throw one hundred percent from the line.
Speaker 1 (01:39:26):
Is this where I ask company for those who were
taken or no?
Speaker 4 (01:39:29):
No, no, you you shut up?
Speaker 13 (01:39:32):
Well alright, Kevin, just look at the percentages. My true
shooting looked good.
Speaker 1 (01:39:37):
The volume not important, not important, no exactly, Hey, per
thirty six is all that matters. Tony East locked on
pacers and we always enjoy our chats with him. Tony,
have a great weekend, brother.
Speaker 13 (01:39:49):
Yes, thanks guys, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
The craziest human here at Grand Park. I think, is
this Brian Mason, this cult special teams coordinator?
Speaker 5 (01:39:56):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
This is okay decked out head to toe. I mean
he's in full apparel and he he runs around these
fields in this heat. I mean, gosh, what a legend
out here before practice starts. You know, got to be
dripping sweat. Yeah, I guess to be Designs Will High School.
Brian Mason shout out to Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (01:40:14):
I will say, zionsvill House High School has a great
football facility. Went down there for a playoff game way
back in the day when I was covering the region,
and I've been there.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
Broadcast a couple of times with Brendan King, one time
against Signs Will Browns beat the breaks off.
Speaker 4 (01:40:27):
But I do think that you have some different type
of wiring to be a special teams coordinator. Like we
talk about guys being the special teams players, and Ashton
Doolan will tell me, you gotta be willing to basically, oh,
you got to sacrifice everything to be a gunner or
to be a punperturner.
Speaker 1 (01:40:42):
Yeah, not tighten in your head to be the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:40:44):
Who coaches those crazy dudes. You gotta be a little
crazy yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:40:47):
Uh yeah. Brian Mason making the rounds here. Colts training
can't beginning to come to life in Grand Park. Let's
lead off the morning checkdown right there.
Speaker 2 (01:40:56):
The morning checkdout on nutties five and one.
Speaker 1 (01:40:59):
Oh, James, I want to get back to those Bernardo
Ryman comments on the other side, what he said to
Jake Querry yesterday about him and the Colts apparently being
a part in contract negotiation talks. But let's focus on
the practice itself. Will go a little longer today ten
am to eleven fifteen for the Colts, and then tomorrow
it's four o'clock until five thirty. What do you think
(01:41:23):
quarterback wise? Do you think we go back to day one?
You think it'll be Anthony Rigerson getting a few more
eleven on eleven reps today and then Daniel Jones being
that guy tomorrow. Like we've seen so far here a
day one and day two.
Speaker 4 (01:41:34):
I think it could be flip flocked because you have
more time to recover, if that makes sense after today's practice,
So perhaps Daniel Jones gets a little bit more of
the action because of the recovery time, and then you
get a little more than twenty four hours before tomorrow's practice,
which is I believe starting at four pm, and I.
Speaker 1 (01:41:49):
Don't think any full pads till Monday. I believe that's
the first full padded session of camp. So they'll go
Monday and Tuesday next week. The night practice is Thursday,
the legit night practice. You e, we're gonna have lights
on out here, Matt Taylor. Are they wheeling lights for that?
Speaker 4 (01:42:04):
They are wow for that.
Speaker 1 (01:42:06):
I didn't know if we all were going who.
Speaker 5 (01:42:09):
Game?
Speaker 1 (01:42:10):
Yeah, exactly rossed night game Matt, Matt Taylor shipping in there.
I didn't know if we're going like iPhone flashlight here
for all of them? Is it a white out and
it's ended? Yeah, it's Zombi Nation. Is gonna be playing
here at at Grand Park coming up eight o'clock next week.
All right, last night it's tidy Ambridge Field. As we
just chatted with Tony East, the Fever eighty seventy and
(01:42:30):
James Again. I don't know if it's the most descriptive
way to describe a July twenty fourth win, but didn't
that just feel like the Fever needed it?
Speaker 4 (01:42:38):
Yes, I think it gets a bit harrier if you'd
lose that game, and on top of that, you get
the tiebreaker over the Aces, so if they end with
the same record, you still are in over them. So
that was a huge, huge win last night. I thought
that Erry McDonald had the dagger late, Sophie Cunningham shooting
the cover off the basketball as of late, and then
Natasha Howard probably was the game MVP Chelt's c Mitchell
(01:43:00):
as well. But again, this team, to their credit, has
shown some resiliency throughout this season while dealing with the
in and out nature of their lineup because of the
Kailn Clark injuries.
Speaker 1 (01:43:09):
The Kaitlyn Clark update read is this yesterday and I
quote from the Fever fall on at July fifteenth injury
to Kaitlin Clark. She underwent further medical evaluation earlier this week.
The team can confirm no additional injuries or damage was
discovered through the evaluations. Clark will continue working with the
Fever medical team on a recovery and rehab with the
priority on her long term health and well being. There
(01:43:31):
is no timetable available for Clark's return. No additional details
will be provided at this time. Any further updates will
be shared as they become available. James, what did you
make of that update?
Speaker 4 (01:43:43):
It was good to drop the day to day label
and just continue with Hey, we will evaluate this in
due time. I do believe she has to speak legally
or contractually by the WNBA within about ten days or
a week and a half of the injury, so perhaps
we'll get an update there. But on top of that,
I thought that she kind of gave us an update
(01:44:04):
herself last night when she was jumping around on the
sideline and flexing when our team was doing well, and
I just kept thinking to myself, Caitlyn, relax, sit down,
you know, don't take you know, this big of a
step or big of a leap, because we need you
to be healthy come playoff time. But it was it
was cool to see again the team rally around themselves
and her and get a much hed win yesterday against
(01:44:25):
an ACS team that looks so much different. I was
watching him, Kevin Bowen, Oh, this is not a championship
team at all compared to where they were a couple
of years ago. And keep in mind they have three
Olympians on their team and Asia Wilson four actually Asia Wilson,
Jackie Young, Juwel Lloyd, and Chelsea Gray and they looked
like that. That to me was very concerning.
Speaker 1 (01:44:43):
I don't think relaxes in the dictionary for Kaitlyn Clark
when it comes to supporting.
Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
No, she can't. But I'm like, we need to give her,
you know, some tips here.
Speaker 1 (01:44:50):
You I had PTSD earlier. Shout out to Aiden. Is
that correct?
Speaker 5 (01:44:54):
Aiden?
Speaker 1 (01:44:54):
Is that your name correct?
Speaker 4 (01:44:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
Shadowing Matt Taylor. It just said, has done tremendous observation work.
Matt Taylor has just been a great teacher to him
the last couple of days. But he's got this five
star notebook over there.
Speaker 4 (01:45:05):
Yeah, a and keel that up?
Speaker 1 (01:45:07):
Is that some PTSD right there from school? And can
you bring that up?
Speaker 6 (01:45:10):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:45:10):
That looks horrible?
Speaker 1 (01:45:12):
Back to school?
Speaker 5 (01:45:13):
Yuck.
Speaker 1 (01:45:13):
I feel like I would have here on the U.
Speaker 4 (01:45:15):
Yeah, I feel like I would have say.
Speaker 1 (01:45:17):
They say no free ads, so apologies to five star
here for the free ad. But I mean, does this
look like I'm going back to Target right now? It
does it?
Speaker 5 (01:45:23):
Does?
Speaker 6 (01:45:24):
You know?
Speaker 4 (01:45:24):
I would think that, you know, Aiden Walden shout out
Greenwood High school man, right, Yeah, shout out to the
Greenwood woodman. But I just feel like Aiden showed why
he's probably had this opportunity already in high school to
come out here cover camp a little big, a little experience,
because when I was in high school, the notebook was
one not that big and two probably didn't have enough
notes in it to begin.
Speaker 1 (01:45:44):
With, though he's on it, to say the least, speaking
of on it. They will be over at sixteenth in
Georgetown this weekend. I hope Tom Carnegie would appreciate that.
It will be the Brickyard four hundred and two o'clock
on Sunday. Lagoon a seka for Indy car So pray
for the dub Bowl sleep schedule this weekend here. It's
been a busy month of July for Indy car Out
(01:46:04):
in Monterey coming up this weekend. Quiet Day, Major League Baseball.
The Reds are great, the Cubs are terrible. You've ever
looked down and thought, wow, this looks heinous. He's so
I know he's waiting. He's waiting with baited breath as
they said, what an idiot. I'm such an idiot.
Speaker 8 (01:46:23):
I got a million, Kevin, So keep talking your Cubs,
jump man. When you win one game and you're talking
of chesty man.
Speaker 1 (01:46:31):
Awfully quiet day on the diamond. I'm just reiterating what
happened here. You know, momentum is a beautiful thing in
pro sports. Justin field. Sounds like crisis averted on that
dislocated to it. Actually looks like he's back to practice
this morning there. So again, when you see carted off
in a training camp, it can be a little skewy,
just because with a lot of these facilities, particularly this
one here at Grand Park, it's a long walk from
(01:46:53):
the outdoor fields into that indoor complex there. But James Boyd,
I just some reporting news here. I believe we're two
days into camp and I don't know if I've seen
a Colts player get hurt yet, which is good.
Speaker 4 (01:47:05):
Knock on some wood. We haven't seen.
Speaker 1 (01:47:07):
I'm reporting news, I know. Am I not supposed to
report news?
Speaker 4 (01:47:12):
You want to give a just a quick recap of
what's going on here?
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
Yeah, people believe in Jenxus. Can you imagine if I
had that type of power that I could somehow just
execute injuries like that, if I could stab my fingers
and three people?
Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
Yeah, I mean Chris Ballad was telling us in his
uh pre training camp news conference that if he had
that kind of ability, he wouldn't be a GM and
he'd be doing something else. And he did say that,
you know, making a ton of money, and I would
be working with him.
Speaker 1 (01:47:35):
I can't recall many days in my covering of Colts
training camp. That they've gone two days and I haven't
seen a player. I mean, if you even see players
like get worked at Alex Peerce. I guess a little
bit on day one, but he came back into practice,
did you not.
Speaker 4 (01:47:46):
Hey, their condition man. They're trying to go for the
long run. They said, they want to make the playoffs,
and so you can't be getting dinged up one day
two of training camp. But in all seriousness, that is
a good sign. I'm curious to see again what we
see Zia Franklin get out here in any capacity before
the week. Get's out. But if not, what does that
mean for just next week? Him and a few others,
you know, just as far as availability goes. But again,
it is good to not have anybody on the physically
(01:48:08):
unable to perform lists.
Speaker 1 (01:48:09):
What do we make of Bernard Ryman saying him and
the Colts are not close currently on a contract extension.
We'll hit that on the other side. Ten am to
eleven fifteen, Colts Training Camp, Day three live here in Westfield,
especially as of late, so the dude.
Speaker 8 (01:48:23):
Will excuse me, that was disgusting.
Speaker 3 (01:48:32):
You were listening to a fan morning show on sports
radio ninety three five and one oh seven.
Speaker 4 (01:48:39):
Yes, yes, boiled.
Speaker 6 (01:49:17):
There was something team.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
He did Chili Can.
Speaker 1 (01:49:38):
Speaking of hulking figures, the left tackle of Thedannapolis Colts
would be one of those. In Bernard Rieman doesn't kind
of look like a pro wrestler.
Speaker 4 (01:49:45):
He could be. I think he's one of those guys
that he probably could have been good at any sport
he pursued, including wrestling.
Speaker 1 (01:49:51):
Way too nice, I think to create an edge in
his pro wrestling man, I don't know, but he had
a little bit of an edge. I think an innocent
hedge yesterday when he joined Jake Quare. Let's play this
audio one more time, Mark, If you don't mind going
to cue this up, we will react to it. This
is Bernard Rayman on Querying Company yesterday, when asked about
his contract negotiations.
Speaker 4 (01:50:11):
I don't know what.
Speaker 9 (01:50:17):
Obviously, we love it here. We would love to, you know,
get things done, but I'm not I'm not involved in this.
Obviously you haven't. You have an agent that takes care
of this. From my understanding, days they aren't on the
same page about things. So you say they're not on
(01:50:41):
the same page as I've read now they're not exactly
the same page right now. So, but I mean, as
I said, for me as a football player, I'm I'm
preparing for the season because that's what matters.
Speaker 10 (01:50:50):
Yeah, I understand when you talk to your agent about it,
when he says, hey, look, they're not on the same page.
Do you think that that means just in terms of
the Colts don't want to have the discussion yet, or
the numbers themselves a way off base.
Speaker 9 (01:51:02):
From my understanding is that the numbers don't always quite
add up yet, you know the way they they might
value a position differently than than than my team thinks
it is.
Speaker 10 (01:51:17):
But I'm you know, we're working. We're working on your
positions one of the most valuable here. You know that, right,
Like I'll be your agent for you here. Your position
is really important, right so obviously I'm well aware of that.
I just want to make sure they're well aware of that,
right absolutely.
Speaker 9 (01:51:31):
And I mean I know that my agent knows that,
hoping the Colts know that too. But obviously for me,
it's just it's about the here and now I'm improving.
I'm working on this. We still have a I've a
guaranteed season with the Colts, right now that's what I'm
working on, that's been working towards that Super Bowl and
everything else is you know, up to people outside of
(01:51:55):
outside of Yeah, right.
Speaker 1 (01:51:57):
Here, okay, I want to ask you Ryman again yesterday
on with Jake Query some interesting comments and just to
provide I guess a little bit of background for audience
that hasn't been following the story super close. He is
in the final year of his Workie contract. As he
mentioned there Typically in the Chris Ballard era, players with
career arcs of Bernard Ryman they get an extension now
(01:52:19):
and we talked about this earlier. Quentin Nelson got an
extension on the eve of a season, when you literally
the Saturday night before the start of a season. So
when you say deadline sper action, I mean technically there's
not really a deadline until next March frankly with this,
but but if you wait till then in Ryman's case,
and feel free to fill in people that I've missed,
Michael Pittman, Junior Nelson, Braden Smith, Darius Leonard, those names,
(01:52:42):
they have gotten extensions before the start of this final year.
So given that, what you make of Ryman's comments, I.
Speaker 4 (01:52:49):
Thought it was interesting. He said, I have one guaranteed
year left here, which is true to a certain extent.
Think of franchise tag him if they wait till next offseason.
But when you say, Kevin, they have till next March.
But then at that point other teams come into play
if you don't franchise tag them, and the price with
skyrocket at that point. So I think the longer you wait,
the more expensive he'll become. But also if they're not
(01:53:11):
close on numbers, I would love to know more in
depth than I know. Bernard Romans like, I'm not talking
about this anymore because I've already said too much. Is
that guaranteed money he's talking about? Like are they okay
with the annual average? But as we all know, guaranteed
money in the NFL brutal sport. You know, injuries can
take you out of the game of any moment. Is
that part of the equation in which it always is?
And how much of that is why they haven't agreed
(01:53:33):
to anything just yet because I'm su they're having discussions,
But if I had the guests Kevin, that will get
done at some point this offseason because it just makes
too much sense no matter who your owner is, and
there's been a transition there. Who your quarterback is, who
your coach is, It does not matter general manager. The
list goes on. You pay left tackles, who are good
in the NFL. It's pretty much that simple.
Speaker 1 (01:53:55):
Yeah, I largely agree with the premise you just said
there if they will get it done. I mean, you know,
we debated this earlier. Who is the best? You know,
twenty ish year old mid twenty late twenty draft pick
Chris Ballard has let walk, he doesn't let good players
walk that he's drafted. Bobbio Suraka would probably be the
only one.
Speaker 4 (01:54:13):
And on your list you did it before anybody else.
Most indispensable cold you know Ryman.
Speaker 1 (01:54:18):
He's number one. And again part of the reason why
I had a number one is because of the lack
of depth. Like right now, the two big I think
extension debates are who Ryman and Alec Pierce? Well, the
Alex Pierce debate has the dangling Carreta ad Mitchell a
second round pick. This staff, you know, says is uber talented,
and then you can see some of that talent. There's
none of that at left tackle, none of that whatsoever.
(01:54:41):
Blake Freeland is the backup left tackle right now, so
it needs to get done again, You've got plenty of
time until the start of the season for it to
get done. The one I think gripe Colts fans should
have over Ryman's comments are if you're going to believe
his team saying that there's a disconnect between the value
(01:55:03):
of a left tackle, I mean, what the hell is that?
That's one of the most important positions in the entire league.
Speaker 4 (01:55:09):
I loved how Jake immediately pointed that out, like, oh, ja, yeah,
let's just make sure that we're on the same page here.
Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Jake did a great job
with that. So yeah, that to me makes absolutely zero
sense whatsoever. And you know, this is a team and
a GM that has paid guards, running backs, linebackers. They
sure as hell better pay easy for me to say
a left tackle absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
I mean, the only real knock I guess you could
have one bar Raemen is availability. He's missed a couple
of games, and even then I feel like I'm nitpicking.
What you have behind him isn't great. And honestly, that
position is so hard to find in the NFL, and
they don't grow on trees because if they did, it wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (01:55:50):
Be Valid's best draft pick in my opinion, Bonna Ryman
him or Leonard would you consider where the guy was drafted?
Speaker 4 (01:55:58):
Okay, I was gonna say, Quentin Nelson is like.
Speaker 1 (01:56:00):
Well yeah, y yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:56:02):
But like when you consider position, like how many time
where he was drafted positional value in the NFL?
Speaker 1 (01:56:07):
Find a book in left tackle in the middle round three?
That's fair?
Speaker 5 (01:56:10):
Not fair?
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
So uh yeah, I thought that was interesting and I
thought a great job by Jake. I'm afraid he's awake
so he might hear this, but that was terrific work
by him.
Speaker 4 (01:56:18):
Would you want him as your agent? That conversation he
I'll be your agent. Here to Bernard Ryman, what scenarios
are you okay with Jake Query being your agent?
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
He could be my agent if I'm shopping for cologne
or watches. And that's probably about the extent of I'd
want Jake Querry involved.
Speaker 4 (01:56:33):
I feel like I would want him to just hook
me up with stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:56:35):
Jake Query.
Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
I feel like he's always.
Speaker 1 (01:56:37):
You want Jake to be your agent? God? That sounds awful.
Speaker 8 (01:56:40):
Uh, Watches, colognes and then beers that have long since
passed as far as popularity, like the Little Kings that
came back, he brought those back from the dead, so uh,
stuff like that. He's got a knack for that kind
of stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:56:54):
Monetarily probably not yesterday.
Speaker 8 (01:56:56):
Monetarily monetarily no, or like.
Speaker 1 (01:56:58):
He can help me get some like random Canadian candy, right,
you know, catch up flavored chips.
Speaker 8 (01:57:03):
Kevin, do you want do you want ketchup chips?
Speaker 6 (01:57:05):
Who?
Speaker 8 (01:57:05):
He would say that to you? You want to go
to BUCkies? You'd say that as well.
Speaker 1 (01:57:09):
That was a great job getting closer to the mic,
kind of creating that tone there. That was really well
done by Mark Dyton. We'll be back in studio Wednesday
with Mark. Will be out here Monday, Tuesday. I'm barricading
the door. You guys aren't allowed back. I've enjoyed my
loan time. Well, oh well, you gotta put pants on
for a So you know, I few have asked, no worries.
Jeff will be back next week. I know some people
(01:57:31):
have been asking about that. There missing Jeff record on air,
and he will be back joined us. I believe Tuesday
he will be back with us. We'll get one show
in with him here at Grand Park before we are
back in studio. All right, let's do one final time
here live at Grand Park. This is the FANA Morning
Show ninety three five on a seven five the Fan.
We're back one final time here at Grand Park in Westfield.
(01:57:54):
I did have to chuckle. Camar on site engineers an
excellent job getting us ready to go all week long.
He just came over and said, who is Jack Wilson.
James Boyd, will you fill our audience in on the
Jack Wilson's stature.
Speaker 4 (01:58:09):
He is a cyborg and he is a huge literally
human being. Got into a couple of scuffles yesterday, but
I believe he got signed to the team last year.
He is, I want to say, an offensive lineman and
just a giant human being. He is listed at six
to eleven three ten and that is obviously a very
(01:58:30):
very very big person because football, for purposes of the sport,
usually you're not that tall. But he's tall and also
he's lean like he's I mean tall, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
There's no gut on that man. There's no fat nowhere.
He lived action figure.
Speaker 1 (01:58:44):
No, he's throwing you from here to the Kocoma Memorial Gym.
Jack Wilson. I look like he tried to throw his
a lan to the Memorial Gym yesterday a couple of
times there in practice. Yeah, Jalen Travis the other big tackle.
It's like Jalen Travis would usually be the biggest guy
in question. He's already the one of the bigger players
to put on a Colts uniform. But players starting to
get on the field today again, ten am to eleven fifteen.
(01:59:07):
The Colts will have practice four o'clock to five thirty Tomorrow,
nothing Sunday, and then getting you set for next week.
They'll go Monday Tuesday in the mornings their final morning
practices of camp. Yeah, Monday and Tuesday. Thursday will be
the legit night practice. I believe Matt Taylor said. They're
wheeling in some lights here at Grand Park at a
(01:59:27):
start time of eight o'clock for that, and then James,
they will will practice Saturday and Sunday next week before
they head to Baltimore for the joint practice with the
Ravens and the preseason opener thirteen days away a week
from Thursday.
Speaker 4 (01:59:42):
I will be going to Baltimore for that preseason action,
and so I'll have to give you all some radio
updates from on the ground there and try some seafood.
Never been to Baltimore in the summer, so I'm looking
forward to that experience.
Speaker 1 (01:59:56):
They practice at their own facilities, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:59:58):
They practice about Yeah, it's like six minutes from their
stadium in a car, six to seven minutes, not too
far away. And we'll have a chance to see some
real action, I think, and some big important action because
of the quarterback competition and other position battles that we
kind of monitoring throughout the summer.
Speaker 1 (02:00:13):
Laugh through lots of wee He was on with us
earlier in the week. So thank you to Hand, thank
you to Josh Downs, thank you to Kenny Moore. The
second we'll have some players hopefully join us coming up
next week on the show James Today Tomorrow. What do
you care about before the full pads come on Monday?
Speaker 4 (02:00:29):
Obviously quarterback play. What do you see from Anthony Urtsun
Daniel Jones. It can never be overstated that they are
two of the most important players on the team. But
beyond that, can a guy like Tyler Warren become more involved?
You know, are there any people who haven't really practiced
in one of the meetings are Franklin will he get
out here over the next couple of days. That's something
to monitor as well. And then we saw Johnnie Wood
(02:00:50):
sighting y seven on seven catch right, yeah, Andel Joe,
he had a couple of catches in seven on seven.
So again just who flashes, who pops and you know,
again just trying to monit. Maybe some of the under
the radar guys that could be, you know, one contending
for a starting spot, whether it's a cornerback or linebacker,
but also you know, who's that depth piece behind them.
Speaker 1 (02:01:10):
Do you think we will see the fifty to fifty
quarterback split all the way until they name a starter,
Lord have mercy? Or do you think at some point
they won't name a starter, but they'll say, hey, here's
seventy thirty or here's eighty twenty.
Speaker 4 (02:01:27):
I think for the purposes of the competition, in the transparency,
because we all have eyes at this point, you would
probably need to say something before you come out one
day and it's seventy thirty.
Speaker 1 (02:01:37):
Yeah, But I mean, could you say at one point, hey,
we you know, we like what Daniel is showing, for example,
we want to see a little bit more.
Speaker 4 (02:01:44):
Once we starts saying that I'm going to be asking, well,
he's your starter, right, See.
Speaker 1 (02:01:47):
Now you're not officially I mean, you don't need hell,
you don't need a name a week one starter until September.
That's true. But I think the longer lead on August
first and then on August fifteenth. If you have a
bad couple preseason games, now you're not leading anymore. I
guess do we get any of the good point? Do
we get into a jockey and race, you know, at
the quarter pole? Is this horse you know, leading and
then by the end of it a different one? Or
(02:02:07):
for the next month and a half, are we just
gonna get fifty to fifty to fifty to fifty.
Speaker 4 (02:02:12):
I think it all depends, honestly, Kevin. And that's what
makes it so unique is that you're dealing with two
guys who haven't really proven themselves at the NFL level
to be good quarterbacks or to really give you know,
you that sense of confidence going into this season. So
I think it depends on when they announced the starter.
And for me, yeah, probably need to have that decision
out there in the public. In the locker room, everyone's
(02:02:33):
on the same page by at least a second preseason.
Speaker 1 (02:02:34):
Game, Marky, I have more stupid Kevin Bowen audio to play,
But I'm sure you've got about ten more things you've
been waiting to press all the ten.
Speaker 8 (02:02:42):
I mean, we don't have enough show left. I could
go for two hours with just running Kevin Bowen stuff.
Speaker 1 (02:02:47):
Yeah, unbelievable here, Yeah, good luck to your cubs this
week of.
Speaker 8 (02:02:51):
Oh hiding the shell? You hear that, James all of
a sudden, he got a little got a little scared.
Speaker 4 (02:02:57):
No, man, how are you going to duck the smoke
you six through? You can't be duck in. We still
see you give me.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
I think it could be a shape of you just
said I pooped all over. It could be the shape
of my poop for all I care, and I would
still eat it. WHOA, I have no idea what that
is in reference to I think that's AI. There's no
way I said that. It's right there. This is twenty
twenty five. Man, everything's AI. Was that Brown's video reel?
Speaker 6 (02:03:23):
Or was that fake?
Speaker 1 (02:03:25):
Stage?
Speaker 5 (02:03:26):
Right?
Speaker 8 (02:03:26):
I don't have I don't have AI capabilities, but that
was definitely you.
Speaker 5 (02:03:30):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:03:31):
Luke's got a suggestion on the next big old pacer
bet he wants to go most improved player. You like
that Andrew Nemhart or Benedict Matheren for league's most improved
player next year, I.
Speaker 4 (02:03:42):
Would lean towards Mathering. I feel like Andrew Nymarer' sur
respect the opportunity, right, Yeah, so I think Andrew Nimar
is probably too respected to get the jump from Most Improved,
and honestly, they usually picked like top five picks.
Speaker 1 (02:03:52):
Matherin odds ten dollars to win three hundred, nem hard
ten to win one forty. So use some nice So
I'm gonna Goather improve player. Thank you Cam on site, Mark,
thank you back in studio, James Boyd, great work you
and I Monday and Tuesday out here. I believe Jeff
record on Tuesday. Everybody have a great, great weekend. Signing
(02:04:12):
off from Colts Camp.
