Speaker 1 (00:01):
They seized a fan morning show with Kaby, Shaby and
Jeff bringing the.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Lake fellows have hit a three, two point games, six
seconds to go, Haliburton driving, he's in the lane, he
nearly lost, and he backs up and unloads a three.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
It happened and hit the back of the rim, hit
my high into the air and it dropped gently through
the net.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Because wow, had it burtled you for this guy?
Speaker 5 (00:46):
Yo?
Speaker 6 (00:47):
Today spa to see your fuck.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Here comes Halibert across the timeline, cross court me Smith
into the corner.
Speaker 7 (00:58):
Can Bryant do it again? You know he can? You
know he can. Number three with a three into the
four court. Haddiburton all the way to the goal.
Speaker 8 (01:10):
He locked it to the.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Rim, check fait check, fate.
Speaker 7 (01:15):
Top in with a duck. Seven seconds left.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Time will run out and the Eastern Conference championship has
been captured. Five the Indiana Patar Cattleburton has.
Speaker 7 (01:27):
It with three driving with two pulling.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Up ahead headings with three tenths of a second to go.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
How many more times can this team do that?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
This goal?
Speaker 9 (01:42):
With three cents of a second remaining, chime out?
Speaker 6 (01:46):
Okay, see tyre's Halliburton does it again?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Mcconnall dances, spins, fumbles, mix it up and can't finish
it front rebound. The grateful nimbard over on the left wing.
It was tipping history. He grabbed it and laid it in
and then McConnell steals and the Pacers get four quick
points in.
Speaker 7 (02:06):
A matter of seconds to eight seconds to play. McConnell
on the.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Drive in the lane, open man and top of this
for three rebound punched outside.
Speaker 7 (02:15):
Shepherd fires and then can't hit it and that's gonna count.
He hit three as time expired. The lead is thirty.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Jem Jew.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Do you know you got to have this right on
the meat That is say college anthem right above it,
right there, Mark Dyton, excellent, excellent, excellent. We are back
tonight to the Indiana Pacers start up yet another season.
It'll be seven point thirty inside of Gamebridge Field House night.
Some nationalize on the Pacers as this is a ESPN broadcasting.
(02:55):
As those highlights played, Mark, I thought to myself, Damn,
I don't know if I'm ready to fully let go
of last season.
Speaker 10 (03:01):
There are so many memories just going through the audio
I had saved and everything like that, Like my God,
what a fun season that was, what so many moments.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
I'm not allowed to text that girl again. I'm not allowed,
So no, I have to fully move on my friend.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Well, and I started starting five yesterda because I just want.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Maybe clear when I text that doesn't mean she responds
and yeah, she's already watch your number.
Speaker 11 (03:22):
No.
Speaker 10 (03:22):
I started starting five yesterday because we were on vacation
when it drops, I didn't have time to watch it.
And even just watching the first couple of minutes, I'm like, oh, man,
I know you right, the fields.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Right, You're right.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
I was going to say, you don't have to get
more than three minutes into it before all of a
sudden you're like, oh my gosh, did I just smile
and cry and do all the emotional things within the
first two minutes of it? So great work on that.
That is, of course, Mark Dyton's excellence. I'm Kevin Bow
and James Boyd alongside. It'll be us three here coming
up this morning and tomorrow we got a loaded one
(03:52):
for you. I will introduce him as former pacer ball boy,
some might call him Pro Bowl tight end. Jack Doyle
going to join us coming up at eight clock. Diehard
pacer fan, he'll join us here talking about the cold season.
Thad Mada at eight point thirty as we continue our
Butler conversation. Scott Agnes at nine we'll try to make
some money for a second straight week with Jason Hammer
(04:12):
at nine to thirty. James like, what are your overall
thoughts leading into tonight? Obviously it's a bit of a
different feel. I'll speak for myself, but where are you at?
Speaker 12 (04:23):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (04:24):
And looking ahead of this Spacer season.
Speaker 13 (04:26):
Number one, I would expect Halliburnon to be in the building,
so I would expect some sort of rendov applause, just
knowing that this is going to be very hard for
him to not play, and he's talked about that already
on a few podcasts in different places. I'm sure during
Pacier's media day that it'll really hit him that he's
missing the season when he isn't able to suit up.
So I feel form in that regard, and then as
far as the actual team goes without him, man, just
(04:50):
wondering what your identity will look like when so much
of it was consumed by one player in a good way,
because like I keep saying, Halliburton is the system. He
is one of the most unique players in the league.
It's going to be very hard to replace that. Honestly
impossible to replace that. So how do you still try
to play you know, quote unquote Pacers basketball when you
(05:12):
don't have mister Pacer currently so very curiously how that
all works out?
Speaker 5 (05:16):
And the like mult people.
Speaker 13 (05:17):
Curious to see beyond the core four center rotation, bench
rotation and then how can you scratch and fighting claw
and hopefully make yourself competitive night tonight.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
A seven and a half point underdog, the Pacers and
the Thunder. The Pacers against the Thunder here tonight. You know,
when I go over the injury report, I don't know
if I need to say eighty two nights out of
the year. Tyres Aliburtn won't play, that's obvious. Cheris Walker,
Johnny Furprey sounds like they are good to go. We'll
see about again what that point our rotation looks like.
As Quintin Jackson is out for the Thunder, no Jalen
(05:49):
Williams and no Alex Caruso. Don't have to remind Pacer
fans any what he did as a thorn on the
side throughout the NBA Finals. He is in concussion protocol.
I want to say lou Dort maybe's questionable in case
and Wallace so Thunder a little bit banged up after
that double overtime game last night. But we had quite
a few performances last night in the association that stood
(06:11):
out more impressed by Webin Yama or more impressed by
Anthony Edwards or both.
Speaker 13 (06:17):
Oh, probably wouldn't be, just because I haven't seen anything
like that before. He made me stay up in loose sleep,
because I was just thinking to myself.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
That's the ultimate compliment. Yeah, yeah, can you make me
stay up in loose sleep? I kept thinking, the Spurs
are gonna have to pay that man a billion dollars.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Oh man.
Speaker 13 (06:32):
Yeah, it was video game like to see him do
the things he was doing, and I was like, man,
there's no way you were already coordinated at that size,
and you became more coordinated, like a better ball handler,
a better defender. And he made Anthony Davis, who by
the way, is one of the best defenders ever will
be a first ballot Hall of Famer, look like a
(06:52):
traffic cone or a lamp post.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
So that was remarkable stuff that I saw from him.
Speaker 13 (06:57):
Anthony Edwards, obviously big shot maker and he was making
some big shot certainly last night to get them over
with the hump out in Portland and then.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Also throw one more in there.
Speaker 13 (07:07):
Uh Kevin the rookie VJ Edgecombe from the Sixers scoring
four points in his debut. I believe it's the most
and SIXSS history past Allen Iverson. He's called thirty in
his rookie debut. So shout out to the answer. But
I mean, yeah, basketball is back.
Speaker 6 (07:22):
Yeah, the Sixers are kind of interesting because you know
they've got the old dudes that you're like, wait, can
they stay healthy? And then Edgecomb is just this like
Unbelievable's a freaking athlete.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
Ball of energy.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
If anybody watched Baylor last year, they saw that. Yeah,
Edgecomb at thirty four again Anthony Edwards forty one a
dagger there to kind of ice that web and Yama
in just thirty minutes at forty and fifteen and the
highlights are just I mean just.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Like little tights who it's a um maximum.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
It's AI generated stuff. Just what he is able to do.
That was against Cooper flag ten and ten for Cooper
flag rough shooting night in the day.
Speaker 13 (07:58):
Say this and I know not a Basketball Show. Don't
make him a point guard. For the love of all
things Holy, I'm like, why is he bringing the ball up?
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Yeah? That is a little head scratching to me. As well.
We should mention Miles Turner. Yeah, eleven points, eight rebounds,
five assists. Not used to that for Miles three blocks,
four of twelve shooting. As the Bucks were able to
control the the is it the Wizards? What did I
I was mystics.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
Wizards. Mystics might put up a better fight.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
Yeah, that is probably fair, So we'll get you set
coming up tonight again, Pacers and Thunder inside of gamebridge Fieldhouse.
Colts back to practice yesterday. It's a relatively healthy heading
into week eight. Jalen Jones return to practice. We'll get
more into the third year corner and what potentially his
return could mean for them. It is first versus worst
(08:50):
on Sunday. That's all I'll label this one. The Colts
are first and so many categories, and the Titans are
dead last, really worse than the Jets in so many categories.
And not only are the Titans bad, but their three
highest paid players didn't practice yesterday. Not ideal, so they
are also hurt with their best.
Speaker 13 (09:10):
Saw cam Ward out there, you know, asking the media
to recite play calls, and I was thinking, oh, it's
getting late early in Tennessee.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
Yeah, that is a good way to put it.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
So I saw Daniel Jones.
Speaker 13 (09:19):
If he walked in and actually tried to give us
like a play call to repeat, I feel like Shane
Stikeen would tell him to one, shut up and to
get back, you know, to.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
The actual real playbook.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
I had to.
Speaker 13 (09:29):
I don't have anything against it, by the way, I
just think that it's kind of funny.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
I forget which player said it yesterday in the locker room,
but it's a quote that I'm definitely not used to
hearing in an NFL locker room, certainly not used to
hearing in the month of October. Some player uttered the
phrase of like, we know it would mean the world
to them to beat us, and I'm like, that quote
is safe for like Georgia against Samford or like Alabama
(09:52):
against McNee State. It's it's not safe for NFL locker rooms,
let alone in week eight. We're not in week seventeen
when I this team is like two and fourteen, and
they're not wrong on the quote. But it was just
funny to hear that. I'm like, damn, you know life
is good for you and life is really bad for them.
When that quote gets uttered.
Speaker 13 (10:14):
Yeah, I mean, this is certainly and matchup where the
Colts are the heavy favorites, and rightfully so you can
spend it each way you want, talent wise, coaching wise,
scheduling whatever.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
I mean, this should be.
Speaker 13 (10:31):
A fairly easy victory for the Colts, and I know
I get it any given Sunday, But man, the way
these Colts have been locked in, and knowing how Shane
Stykeing was with us yesterday, he was very locked in.
I would imagine he's probably already finding some way to
tell him, Hey, you know, don't get ahead of yourself.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
Yeah, I thought his dog got hit by a car.
Listening to how subdued Chainsdiking was yesterday. Some Ben Matheren
Audio on no extension for him. We'll get to that upcoming.
And James, the little tease you had a lengthy conversation
with Adie mitchell I did.
Speaker 13 (11:01):
I did shout out to the wide receiver in his
second season, very candid, honestly about everything that he's kind
of gone through as a pro, especially this season. So
certainly want to get in some of that for sure.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
Looking forward to it. We'll get you set again a
little over twelve hours away from Pacers and Thunder starting
back up this twenty twenty five twenty twenty six season,
and continue to look ahead to Week eight as the
Colts and Titans. Reminder for twenty five kickoff coming up
Sunday inside of Lucas Oil Stadium, US three, Kevin Bowen,
James Boyd, Mark Dyke Den, thanks for spending your Thursday
(11:34):
morning with us right here on the fan ninety three five,
one oh seven five.
Speaker 7 (11:39):
Hello, time the.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Morning checkdown on ninety sweet five and one oh seven
five the fan.
Speaker 6 (11:45):
A little over twelve hours away from Pacers and Thunder
inside of Gamebridge Field outs tonight. Pretty much everybody I
feel like in the NBA has already played. The Pacers
will unveil a Eastern Conference champions banner along with I
assume opening night routine, James, as everyone gets announced, right so,
Tyry Talburn, I assume would be individually announced to the crowd.
Speaker 13 (12:06):
I would think so, and certainly you would expect a
huge war roar whenever that happens.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
Indeed, and again the Thunder come into this game having
won in double overtime on Tuesday Night, Shay Gilgess Alexander
that matchup, does it go to Benedict Matherin after a
series of Andrew emhard?
Speaker 13 (12:23):
Oh, that's a good question, honestly him or Aaron ese
with although Aaron Nesmith usually has trouble with SBA, as
most defenders do.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
So Hey, got to earn your keep.
Speaker 13 (12:33):
You want to get that you know, extra bag later
on your career or later later on down the line,
then perhaps you can do have.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
Will place some audio upcoming on Benedict Matherin and not
getting that contract extension. But that will be a storyline
to watch all season long, how the Pacers handle those
defensive matchups given their situation. So again, that's seven point
thirty tonight. It is also on ESPN, but year thirty
eight of Mark Boyle and year twenty of Christnari and
(13:01):
Company continues for ewing pleasure. All right, yesterday, but West
fifty sixth Street, I'd say a pretty decent day injury
report wise, James Josh Downs back to practice in a
red jersey, Ashton Doolan back to practice defensive end. Those
are the question mark. Sampson ebacom listed as week to week.
Taekwon Lewis did not practice as well. He is listed
(13:22):
as day to day. We'll see about Kenny Moore. It
was listed as an achilles injury for him after he
played sixty snaps on Sunday. Is that just simply a
veteran semi rest day for him. That'll be something to
keep an eye on. And Jayalen Jones back to practice
for the first time in over a month.
Speaker 13 (13:40):
Yes, he was very excited to be back out there.
We spoke to him in the locker room. He was
just saying how difficult this has been for him. Has
never really dealt with a major injury that's taken him
out for a skin of amount of time during the season,
so mental hurdles are there as well. But he was saying, hey,
I wanted to get back out their healthy defense and
they certainly could use him if he's able to go.
(14:00):
I wouldn't you know, think that he's available this week,
but I had sooner the better.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Again, a twenty one day window with these guys that
come off of avenged reserve before you have to make
a decision on them, so you could, to James's point,
have him practice for multiple weeks before you bring him
up to the fifty three man roster. All right, last
night in the Association certainly the busiest night of the
year so far. If I took Victor webin Yama off
(14:24):
the table, did you have a favorite moment or the
most impressive thing from last night?
Speaker 13 (14:30):
Honestly, can I go inside the NBA on ESPN oh,
I was. I was loving to see those guys again,
And honestly.
Speaker 6 (14:35):
I watched a little and if you would have told
me I was watching TNT, I was.
Speaker 13 (14:39):
And that's the best compliment I could give. I was
kind of worried, like, where are they going to change?
But they it seems like they just literally changed the
logo and let those guys do their thing. And so
I got a kick out of, you know, all the
jokes from Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Ernie Johnson, and of
course Shaquille o'neils. So I'm looking forward to again losing
sleep over those guys because they just make me laugh
so hard.
Speaker 11 (14:59):
Man.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Yeah, it is an absolute great great watch our college
football coming up this weekend in West Lafaetta's homecoming for
the Boilers, they will try to get their first win
of the Big Ten slate and same goes for their opponent,
Rutgers two and a half point underdog, and this one
is perdue. I'm pretty sure they are. I guess I
need to double check that. We'll see about Their starting
(15:22):
quarterback is going to be Ryan Brown after he got
hurt against Northwestern and down there in Bloomington. Two and
a half point underdog is perdue at home. Actually, so wow.
Nothing says quite the humbleness of a winless Big Ten
team coming in your own building and they're favored. But again,
maybe quarterback health has something to do with it. Quarterback
health for UCLA. I think Nico is going to play
(15:44):
based off some of the reports out there in LA.
But this is a big old spread. It's starting to rise.
Indiana North of a twenty five point favorite. Caught Omar
Cooper Junior on with JMV yesterday afternoon. Great great lets
and that is a dude that I him and Elijah Saratt.
I just love playing watching those two play football. Yeah,
(16:06):
physicality they play with. I don't think you see that, frankly,
that much in the college game, particularly at that position.
Omar Cooper Junior a little baby debo to him and
James's one of the few guys left playing very meaningful
roles from the Tom Allen era. Yeah, you know, so
much of it as the JMU infusion, so much of
it as a little portal like for Nando Mendoza. But
(16:29):
Omar Cooper Junior was a guy and he shared with
John it was a great story yesterday about he's certainly
thought about transferring out there and he has been a great,
great weapon and staying in Bloomington.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Absolutely.
Speaker 13 (16:39):
I think one of the best parts about when you
do have a dominant team like I you and of
course all the scouts are gonna come into your game
and watch the quarterback for Nana Mendoza, you get eyes
on the other guys, and so I think when you
look at Eliza sharrat Omar Cooper, you can say they
raised their stock, especially in a year where all eyes
are on you. So those guys are making themselves some money,
not only in NIL but perhaps for their future pro careers.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
College basketball Perdue will have their first exhibition game tomorrow.
That is inside of Rupp listening to Matt Paynter earlier
in the week, he has not only been a fan
of the Marquee exhibition games for a couple of years now.
He's a fan of going on the road. So they
went to Creighton, they went to Arkansas, now they go
to Kentucky. They actually, and I don't want to make
too much out of a winner loss in the exhibition slate,
(17:23):
they actually lost both of those games, Arkansas and Creighton.
But you know, Painter was kind of saying earlier in
the week, when we have at Alabama coming up in
a few weeks, I want some semblance of us having
to play on the road before that, And definitely makes
sense because you know, they've obviously had non conference success
really like no other in recent years. Indiana's got Baylor.
(17:43):
Don't think it's the same old Baylor, but certainly an
upgrade in competition here for Indiana. As they conclude their
exhibition slate Sunday afternoon, inside of games Scot Drew Fieldhouse,
that is indeed Drew And lastly we'll preview it more tomorrow,
but playoff wise, little chill in the air around the
state from an IHSEA standpoint when we I don't know
(18:05):
if we went to six A, but I think over
the years is you know, enrollments have shifted and schools
have shifted around classes. This first Friday of the playoff
slate is kind of reserved for the small schools. Yeah,
I want to say we have one five a game maybe,
but for the most part it is all about one A,
two way, three A, four A and even some of it,
particularly one A and two A. We don't get a
(18:27):
lot of that locally, so we don't have some local
games we'll hit on tomorrow, But for the most part,
it is a night for the smaller schools and a
night for those around the state of Indiana. So we'll
preview that coming up on the other on the other side,
and definitely tomorrow. Speaking of that, Jack Doyle going to
join us coming up in the eight o'clock hour, Thad
(18:48):
Mata as well. But up next, what are we looking
for tonight? From the Pacers and Thunder. I might throw
some minutes at you. I'm very unsure of what the
minute are going to look.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
Like A minutes.
Speaker 10 (18:59):
I should have brought my basket, sneaker. I knew Kevin was
a one minute man. I knew, I knew it. Wow,
Miss Elliott said it. In the early two thousands, Kevin's
ringing back into a.
Speaker 6 (19:07):
Little early for that, but honestly, sometimes you just pray
to get to a minute. That is the voice of
Mark take Day and I am Kevin Bow and James
Boyd opposite as well. Hell of a start here on
this Thursday, Jeff Ricord. Clearly our boss is not here.
We'll be back. It's the Fan Morning Show.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
They seized a fan Morning show with kb Hab and Jeff.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
Do not adjust your dial off Town to one. Got
a pull nimpart.
Speaker 9 (19:34):
No say it with your chest, Tyree Caliperton takes it
to the back.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
Horse Cross's over on Beverley.
Speaker 7 (19:41):
Fot game for the word Tyree. The terror turner with
the blunt shot the other way.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Top.
Speaker 12 (19:54):
La.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
You did see that, right, partner, I saw, Oh my goodness,
Obi Top Caliverton.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
Double team shot clock at four.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
The more it's gotta put it up step Tack has
three quarters, lem Heart got the three down, time out
next seventeen thousand on their feet, Siaka eight.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Three see up HiT's the three six his pacers.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Half the league Smith to the running story.
Speaker 9 (20:26):
Just destroy it Aremasement ten seconds, McConnell baseline trime, give
it up top in quarter.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
Three and Ronald Dan.
Speaker 9 (20:39):
Indiana pull fuck was sucker gatts?
Speaker 5 (20:42):
It put off?
Speaker 7 (20:43):
I guess thirty with sixty shoot auntwop.
Speaker 8 (20:45):
My pot chickens.
Speaker 9 (20:47):
Please give me some smothered ticket on that onom pacers
down three, Caliburn's got the ball, Caliburton.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Rises up, My goodness gets up.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
Three is found.
Speaker 7 (21:07):
You have got to be kidding me.
Speaker 14 (21:09):
I will see the faces of those guys.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
The hell what the helly, what the helly?
Speaker 6 (21:15):
They get it started again. Tonight's inside of Gamebridge, steal the.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
Chicken, give us his mother chicken on that one.
Speaker 6 (21:22):
Was that James Wood or was that Quinn Buckman? Oh,
let's go year twenty for Christenari again. Even though it's
on ESPN tonight, you will have opposite from a fandual
standpoint there, and of course on our airwaves you're thirty
eight for Mark Boyle. So very fortunate in this market
to have such legends over the years on it, and
(21:45):
we'll continue to get you set for that. Just a
reminder Sunday it'll be a little different from a listening
standpoint on our airwaves. Colts Titans, that's going to be
on our sister station, that's ninety seven point one Hank FM.
You can catch the right to kick off with jam
V of course, and that cults pregame. Hoddle that I'll
start at twelve thirty right here on the fan. Then
(22:05):
once game time starts, sister station four to twenty five
kickoff there ninety seven point one. The reason for that
is you have Pacers and Tea Wolves. Speaking of Michael Grady,
whose voice you heard there, probably one of the epic
regular season games of last year was when Obi Toppin
went off in Minnesota. There the Pacers will be in Minnesota.
(22:26):
Our coverage will begin at six thirty PM, So instead
of having this fourth quarter flipping over stations, Colts Titans
will be on ninety seven point one, and Pacers and
t Wolves will be right here on the fan ninety
three five and one oh seven to five. James, We've
talked about this a little bit, but that early start
to the season schedule for the Pacers, I think it's
one of the more difficult starts you could have, certainly
(22:48):
of many teams in the league. Again, tonight it's a thunder.
Then they will go back to back this weekend Memphis
and Minnesota. They'll wrap up with Dallas on Wednesday, so
it's a three game road trip Memphis Soda back to back,
then Dallas on Wednesday. You come home, it's a four
game homestand within that four game homestand Golden State and
Milwaukee two teams that you know kind of speak for themselves,
(23:10):
and then you go out West for four So you know,
right out of the gate, I think it's a very
difficult schedule, and you're doing it, you know, without TJ
McConnell for probably ten to twelve games as well.
Speaker 13 (23:22):
Yeah, so I'm very curious to see tonight who takes
on those backup point guard duties and how does that
all look, because that is a big, big role for
an NBA team. This isn't football, obviously, where the backup
quarterback never really plays unless something catastrophic happens. Backup point
guards in the NBA really really matter. And TJ McConnell
(23:42):
I thought it was arobably be the best backup point
guard in the league last year. So, you know, does
that mean the rookie Taylor Peter will get a crack
at point guard? I've been impressed with I've seen what
I've seen for him so far. But at the same time,
you know, you're relying on some guys who probably haven't
been in those roles before.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Has the bet been placed, Kevin?
Speaker 6 (24:00):
The bet, Yeah, it does need to be a placed
now that now that you say that, yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
I'm gonna need that number. We need that number.
Speaker 6 (24:06):
Two. We got to confirm with Jason Hammer. Him and
I were chatting about this earlier. I think the bet
I'm gonna go with is the Pacers is a top
six seed. I think he got that at plus like
three thirty.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
So not win total. You're just gonna go I like
that one.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
Okay, that is and it probably is a little more
juice honestly than win total, to be honest with you.
So for our non betters out there, that would be
like a ten dollars bet to win thirty three dollars
if it was at plus three thirty. So Jason Hammer
joined us at nine thirty. I want to confirm with
him and go from there.
Speaker 10 (24:36):
Max Bones college fund and Rosie's college fund is what
is this?
Speaker 5 (24:40):
How many years in a row? Have you hitting out
for three years?
Speaker 6 (24:42):
I think this will be year four? Yeah, yes, so
knock on that? Would you mentioned backups? Are we gonna
get our first? Riley Leonard NFL snap on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Garbage time.
Speaker 13 (24:54):
He's gonna say, you gotta be clear here, Kevin, Yes,
knock on some wood, man.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
Thank you guys for making me clarify that, yes, scarbage time.
Thank you, Mark.
Speaker 13 (25:04):
I think it's a real possibility the way this team
has been scoring. Man, you get up and in the
third or fourth quarter and you're up twenty points with
the rookie in. Let him get his first NFL experience,
and let's do to dame slash Colts fans really basking
the glory of him being QB two.
Speaker 6 (25:21):
I'm gonna throw some minutes at you tonight for the Pacers.
And to be fair, James, I got no freaking idea,
Like I have no idea what the second unit is
gonna look like. I know, and so this is an
exercise I did yesterday. I'm like Kevin, this is just
sounds stupid, But here we go. I got Nembar playing
thirty two minutes, mather In thirty two, Nie Smith thirty two,
(25:42):
Pascal thirty two. Just throwing rough numbers at some starters.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Okay, that's fair.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
My center combo, in some way, shape or form, does
an add up to forty eight some of these guys
will play power forward, mainly Obi. I got Isaiah Jackson
playing twenty starting, I got Jay Huff getting twelve minutes,
and I got Obie Topping getting twenty. I think you're
gonna see some be at the five lineups.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
I think that could be their best lineup. And like
I said yesterday, is.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
That what you finished the game with if it's close?
Speaker 13 (26:09):
Oh, I think it probably depends on the opponent. Maybe
if you want a bit more rebounding. But even then,
like you look at some of these guys that they
have in center position, they don't rebound that well either.
But I think it might be a field thing for
Rent Carlisle where you probably prefer to end with that lineup,
but you kind of got to go based off of
how the game has been flowing, because like I said,
I think that's a.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Gimmick, key kind of lineup.
Speaker 13 (26:30):
Not that they can't be competitive or successful, but I
just think when you have Obi at the five that
has like a shelf life on it and that clock
is ticking as much as he plays at that position
before teams kind of figure that out.
Speaker 6 (26:41):
So it's tonight more of a true center lineup then,
because it's chet Holmgrin and Isaiah Hartins.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
Then I do think you probably need a little more
true center.
Speaker 13 (26:50):
And I mean even then, looking back at the finals,
or trying to go back too far, you were able
to get away with a lot of obi top itself.
But again you had Tyree's Halliburton running the show. That
changes so much when it comes to shot quality. You
know how evolved guys are on the offensive end, how
you're able to turn defensive to offense so quickly. So
if that isn't happening, yeah, I do think you probably
(27:11):
want to have more traditional big out there because you know, okay,
see with their you know, length and size, they're going
to try to obviously crash the glass on you. And
I think that if anything is they're off and they
could just get five to six extra shots at the rim,
then that could be the game.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
Again, no McConnell. So the other bench minutes I threw
out there, I do think you could see some point
forward from Jaris Walker. I gave him twenty for tonight.
I gave Ben Shephard sixteen. Johnny Furfey probably his first
kind of true meaningful clock in the NBA. How about
fourteen minutes for the man down under, and then I
(27:48):
will go with Taylor Peter, the second round pick out
of Liberty, also getting some point guard run which he
is not a point guard. Yeah, Rick Carlisle shared of
does he literally went up to Taylor Peter. The other
is like, hey man, you ever play point guard? Let
me can you imagine? I mean, this is the NBA,
This is not you know, fourth grade to Romeoville, you
know whatever, wreck ball here, Taylor Peter.
Speaker 13 (28:11):
Shout out to fourth grade reg ball. Want a championship
with my sister back in the day, can your sister,
who my sister was like, run our test?
Speaker 6 (28:25):
She she had to.
Speaker 13 (28:26):
You know, the basketball career did not last long for
my fiery, inspirited sister.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
You can go a long way if you're gonna play
some defense like that. I'll give Taylor Peter ten minutes.
Speaker 13 (28:36):
Okay, I think I can get with that. I'm very
curious to see what benig Maverins role looks like in
his minutes and what that entails them both ends of
the floor, because like we said, oh, you want to
be more pacers like and move the ball and make
quick decisions. But at the same time, I'm like, wait
a second. If things get stagnant, I want to be
able to hit the Benedict mathere will get a bucket
(28:57):
button because you're gonna need that. I think more off
then then you did last year with Halliburton in the lineup,
and then defensive, like you said, because of his size
and length. And I do think Matheren has like the
physical archetype to kind of, you know, be a fairly
good defender. But you know, if you're lying on him
do that, how much does he have at the other
end as well? So I'm very curious how all this
(29:19):
shakes out because you're having to sacrifice certain things to
sort of flip your I don't know your strengths a
little bit because Andrew Nimharer, for example, is such a
great defender, but you just can't expect him to do
that and also be your primary ball handler for you know,
thirty five minutes a night mark.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
Let's give this audio again for those that missed it
earlier in the week. You did have a deadline for extensions.
We saw Aaron E. Smith get his. Theyt tacked two
more years onto his extension. He already was with the
team for two years and now it became I guess
a four year deal, so he is definitely part of
this core here for the foreseeable future. Benedict Matherin, which
I don't think it was very much a surprise to
(29:59):
us no extension, So right now he will be a
restricted free agent coming up next offseason, so the Pacers
will have first negotiation rights, you know, match offer sheets,
all of that. Benedict Matherin yesterday on the no contract extension,
I got.
Speaker 12 (30:15):
I mean, listen, it's not it's not that big of
a deal, man, you know what I'm saying. Obviously you know, well,
we'll love to but I'm not.
Speaker 11 (30:24):
I'm not worried. I'm not worried about that. I'm not.
I'm not worried about that, man.
Speaker 12 (30:28):
You know, it's just about going to the going to
the game, going to the season. My mind's trade knowing that,
you know what, I can have a great season, you know,
and uh and I can actually be who who being
wanted to be. So you know, there's no worse to
me about no extension.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
So again, I think Matherin kind of sides with everyone's
general thinking and James and We've talked about this over
the last few months. I think I understand why both
sides would probably say, you know what, let's see this
play out. You know, depending how it goes, you might
get an answer in February around the trade deadline. Yes,
(31:06):
this is true. That's just a bit of reality that
you can't totally ignore.
Speaker 13 (31:11):
And I believe Matheren is going to be a restricted
free agent correct after this season meeting. The Pacers can
match any offer, but you said you might get some
movement before then.
Speaker 6 (31:20):
And like, I mean, him guarding Shade and Night, I
mean that just sounds wild to me, Like I know,
I mean, I just a you're so used to him
and them aar, I mean, you know, we just I
mean we were ingrained with that for seven games, and
obviously their history growing up and everything.
Speaker 13 (31:39):
Because Jar's out there as well, does he draw a
little the SGA assignment given his length?
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Yeah, but yeah, because again Jared's walking and played in
the finals.
Speaker 13 (31:47):
Right, So I mean that's a very interesting proposition. And
SGA guy just he scores in his sleep. I was
watching the other night and the season opener and it's like, oh,
he's not doing much and then he ended with thirty five.
So yeah, again, this will be a very strong test
open the year for you against the defending champs, obviously,
(32:08):
But at the same time, I would expect Bene Matheren
in particular to be a guy who, you know, when
he says he doesn't care, I think he does care.
But I think he approaches basketball with the right level
of like brash neists, with this like I don't care
what anybody else thinks mentality that is honestly kind of
endearing when it comes to him as a player. This
(32:29):
is the same guy who called Lebron James before he
played an actual NBA game and hasn't blinked since.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
How about this news here from Sham Sharnia Olshams. Yeah,
Miami guard Terry Roseier arrested this early Thursday morning is
part of an FBI sports betting gambling probe Eastern District
of New York and FBI director Cash Battel will hold
(32:58):
a press conference at an am Eastern to announce arrests
from investigation. Oh boy, that's a little bit more prominent
than what's his name's brother? Porter?
Speaker 5 (33:11):
Yeah, yeah, I mean Tarots year was.
Speaker 13 (33:13):
You know, he's a rotation NBA player, a good NBA player,
but you know, maybe some questions about why you weren't
so good in certain games.
Speaker 6 (33:22):
This is amazing to me, Like trot Year, I have
no I mean, he's been lee for a long time
at this point. I mean, I'm gonna guess this dude's
made well over one hundred million dollars. Well, what in
the world, Like, what are you getting from a gambling
aspect that's satisfying your financial risk in that?
Speaker 5 (33:39):
But you know what, I think, are you getting.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
Adrenaline rush by hitting the under or whatever he's doing here.
I don't know if he's you know, if he's doing
himself or if he's just simply betting on other NBA games.
But like, I'm just dumbfounded by seeing, particularly these guys
like again Porters.
Speaker 5 (33:57):
How much money he's made, by the way, he's.
Speaker 6 (34:00):
Got to be well over one hundred million, right one sixty.
I mean think about that.
Speaker 13 (34:07):
But I mean, do you think that's why it's an addiction?
Though I'm not excusing it, but I think whenever I
see stuff like this and when things don't make sense,
there's the only explanation in my eyes is like you
are you must be addicted to doing this?
Speaker 10 (34:21):
Well do the world we live in? We have billionaires
that are like, how much more money do you need?
And they always say more?
Speaker 5 (34:26):
So maybe you know.
Speaker 6 (34:29):
Right, And I'm sure.
Speaker 13 (34:30):
We'll get more information out of this, like I don't
know if you owe somebody some money or got in
with the wrong guys.
Speaker 5 (34:34):
But yeah, I've talked to I mean, here you go.
Speaker 13 (34:38):
Yeah, but we've talked about this when Isaiah Rodgers went
through his suspension.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
Here, which again Isaiah Rodgers and like Porter's brother James,
I mean they were barely in the league at their
respective points. Terroorjira is legit.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 13 (34:50):
But my point about that is that I always am surprised,
like you said, about the idea to do that, but
also the that you're going to get away with it,
because if there is one thing we know about laws
here in America, money laws, brother, those are hard things
to you know, just kind of skirt. You can get
(35:12):
away with a lot of things, but you know, not
like paying the irs for example, or something like that
is not one of them. So I don't understand why
you think you could get away with something like that.
And also they have people who all get paid a
lot of money to regulate or check any irregularities when
it comes to sports Betty.
Speaker 5 (35:29):
So if you're if you go out there and you
stink it.
Speaker 13 (35:32):
Up, and you know what, don't do it during the show,
but you know, commercial break or after the show, you
google Terry Rozier, you know, point shaving. There's some highlights
out there where you're wondering, like are you playing real basketball?
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Like what are you doing?
Speaker 13 (35:45):
So, yeah, it's it's very interesting and certainly a world
of trouble for him. But yeah, people get paid a
lot of money to make sure that you're gambling correctly, because,
like I said, no one's going to give up that
gambling money easily.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
My center expectation for the pay tonight.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Low bar, Well, don't gamble on the game.
Speaker 6 (36:03):
Well, yeah, that would be wise. Don't hack, rebound and
Jay Huff hit an open shot.
Speaker 5 (36:12):
You know what you saw.
Speaker 13 (36:12):
I feel like you sound like every Indiana high school
basketball coach.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
Don't hack, don't hack, read, crash glass.
Speaker 6 (36:19):
And hit an open shot. I don't even know if
Indian high school basketball coaches would say hit the open shot.
That I might be giving you too much credit.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
True, but I will say this, Jay Huf can shoot.
Speaker 13 (36:27):
He can't In the preseason, did not but I mean
he's probably the exception. Now if I was there, Jackson
Sann won't step out and shoot the three ball crash glass.
Speaker 6 (36:36):
He's more of the don't hack well exactly, and Huff
both of them had issues.
Speaker 15 (36:41):
I'm worrying about the center position though, You're right and
like again Obi, with that group, yeah, that's probably your
best offensive group, but when you're playing Chet and you're
playing Hartenstein, you probably need a little bit more of
a true center in there.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
Rim protection was I think, you know, I thought Miles
waned a little bit at that aspect of his career
last season, but still, you know, he offered you more
than I think what you have right now on the roster.
So those are my center expectations for tonight, low Bar.
But can you check those boxes because in the preseason
that in turnovers was really wolf. In the preseason turnovers
(37:18):
was really wolf.
Speaker 13 (37:19):
Yeah, and again they want to play fast, but playing
fast can be a detriment to you if you are
not playing clean and fast, because that could lead to
obviously points alternatives for other teams. So a lot of
challenges for this Pacers team, and I think you're going
to go through some growing pains and I would costion
everybody that tonight of all nights is going to be
a test that will certainly, you know, it might stress
(37:40):
you out at times, but I wouldn't make it, you know,
referendum on your entire season because we know what Okay
so he does with their defense and how good they are.
So it's almost like you've been thrown into like the
PhD course and you're just like, wait a second, I'm
you know, trying to get a one hundred levels stats
class done.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
Fifteen minutes away. Jack Doyle gonna join us there the
Colts Pro Bowl, TI Dan, who have enjoyed him and
Matt Taylor have done some podcast here within the cold season.
It's a great listen. Jack hint of recap in every game,
and obviously he's been very fond of the other eighty
four with Tyler Warren.
Speaker 10 (38:12):
This season one of the more stressful days of college
when you had to go to the first day of class, like,
am I in the right building?
Speaker 5 (38:17):
Am I in the right class? Am I gonna sit here?
Speaker 10 (38:19):
And all of a sudden they're gonna say, like, welcome
to Economics four hundred.
Speaker 5 (38:23):
This is not right. I'm in the wrong building. Should
I go to lunch already. Those are stressful.
Speaker 6 (38:28):
Struggling with the U Indie campus map marked.
Speaker 10 (38:31):
I mean you're always like, hey, is this this is
the class I'm supposed to be at?
Speaker 5 (38:34):
Like I think so, Like, oh boy, that's not good.
Speaker 6 (38:38):
Speaking of college, this guy had a great run in
college to round out his collegiate career. The NFL start
hasn't been maybe what many thought of James You think
j T Twoey malowayle the rookiett Ohio State gets an
expanded role coming up this weekend.
Speaker 13 (38:52):
He should, right, I mean logically, I feel like that's
kind of similar to what we were talking about Jyalen Jones,
Like you know who else you're gonna play at that position?
I mean, who else are you gonna turn to if
you're down too of your defensive ends, if your a
second round pick from this year can't get in.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
At that point, I'm gonna start asking questions, like what's
going on?
Speaker 13 (39:10):
We're two months into the season at this point, and
I get that he might not be where you want
him to be for a LU and Arumo scheme that
from what I understand talking to different players is quite complicated.
But man if he can't get in and you don't
have any bodies.
Speaker 5 (39:22):
What are we doing?
Speaker 6 (39:24):
Yeah, based off where the colts are at right now,
and again Sansuin Avicom listed this week to week. He
had a brace on that right knee, so I would
assume he's gonna miss multiple games. Uh, he didn't practice
us today. Taekwon Lewis H Shane listed him as day
to day, So you know, I feel like in that lingo,
maybe there's a chance for Sunday, but if he's not
gonna play, Yeah, Touy Malabaws probably your third d M. Now,
(39:45):
I understand the cam Ward game plan might be a
little different than how you rush the other for sure quarterbacks,
but yeah, this should be an expanded role for him
and Jalen Jones at corner, you know, with him back
and then Tavari's Ward got to miss three more games,
there are some names at corner that, Okay, we should
(40:05):
get these guys back, you know, maybe sometime in November,
but we should get them back at defensive end. There's
really not those guys, right, tuumal Allows probably the closest
to it, right, But you know, again, rookie, all of
a sudden, having this huge second half of the season.
I don't know if that's totally fair to throw those
expectations on. What do you take from Jalen Jones chatting
with the media yesterday, This hamstring injury has been very
(40:26):
nagging for him all off season long. Back to practice
yesterday for the first time in over a month.
Speaker 5 (40:31):
One. He was very adamant about practicing.
Speaker 13 (40:34):
That was before we even knew that he would, and
you know, through the question out there is like, I'm
definitely practicing, and like, okay, well that's a good sign.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
And then he was talking about how.
Speaker 13 (40:43):
Mentally tough it's been because he had the hamstring issue
pop up during training camp, missed a ton of time,
then fights his way back for the season opener, and
then gets hurt again for his game back, and he
was saying, yeah, I definitely shed some tears.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
Those were his votes about.
Speaker 13 (41:01):
That, and just kind of navigating that for the first
time in his career, because if you look at his
NFL career has been very durable the first two years
and this year kind of an injury plague. Then then
he's kind of in a unique spot where he would
really go there, Kevin, I know me and you kind
of pressed them on it, like, hey, do you think
you could, you know, boost his defense and more or
less earn your starting job back. And he was just like,
(41:23):
I want to just help the team. It was very
business like, but I do think, you know, cut the
cameras off, give him some truth serum. He's probably thinking, hey,
I want to be back healthy, but b I want
to show that you guys need me as they do.
Speaker 6 (41:38):
Yeah, and I probably would consider myself like a member
of the Jalen Jones fan club, like I think he's
been a quality corner in the NFL.
Speaker 13 (41:47):
Yeah, but you know, like you said, though, the narrative is,
are you a Luin Orumo right?
Speaker 14 (41:53):
Right?
Speaker 5 (41:53):
But I'm like, man, looking at some of these other guys,
are you not?
Speaker 6 (41:56):
Like August twenty third, if you ask me, hey, what
do you think about Jalen Jones right now? I would
have said to you, I worry about him being a
louis an Rumo guy, right, not being a lou Aroumo, Right,
I guess is how I should say that. And at
the time, Xavier Howard was brought off the couch and
Jalen Jones just all of a sudden went to the bench.
Now I think Blu's got no choice. Whenever Jalen Jones
(42:18):
is healthy, you have to give him an opportunity. And
if Jalen can play like you did in the first
two seasons, then I do think he can help put
a little band aid over that situation right now. So
you know, there's part of me that thinks, okay, you know,
maybe this is a good opportunity for this opponent, Jalen
Jones get a little run in the fourth quarter. And
then also part of me says, well to a various
(42:38):
ward's going to be out two more weeks. You know,
maybe you look at and say, hey, what about DK
Metcalf next week? What about Drake London in a couple
of weeks? You know, do you hold off a little
bit longer? But nonetheless, the fact that Jalen Jones is
back to practice good news for the Colts in their
cornerback situation. All right, Coming up in about ten minutes,
Jack Doyle going to join us fad Mada at eight
(42:58):
point thirty Pacers conversation be very centric. Coming up in
the nine o'clock hour, Kevin Bowen, James Boyd, Mark Dyton.
Here it is opening night Pacers and thunder here. You
can hear it right here on the fans seven thirty
tip and thank you for starting your morning with us
ninety three five one oh seven five.
Speaker 14 (43:15):
I'm the fan.
Speaker 11 (43:20):
God.
Speaker 10 (43:20):
I can see Market Square Arena coming to focus here,
Reggie Miller, Michael Jordan.
Speaker 6 (43:26):
I don't think we had drone shots back then necessarily,
but like I can picture just a camera on Pennsylvania Street,
seem just scanning down there. And then yes, the flock. Wow,
I guess you know, maybe coming into Conseco field House
back then and all of a sudden, black socks and
shaved heads, maybe some snow covered streets. Yes, indeed it's
(43:46):
time for balls and pacers.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
You've got.
Speaker 5 (43:51):
Yeah, I try, I work on it.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
That's one of your better ones.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 16 (43:55):
We've got Marv Albert and Quinn Buckner in studio here.
Oh the chicken, I can't wait for the first mother
gonna get very many smothered chickens with Miles gone.
Speaker 6 (44:07):
Is this Jay Huff or Bust?
Speaker 5 (44:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 13 (44:10):
I thought Bennedict Matheren will give me at least one
or two smothered chickens this season.
Speaker 6 (44:14):
A breakaway block.
Speaker 13 (44:15):
Yes, the chase down I know you had one in
the playoffs against the de Andandre Hunter. I believe where
the cash stands were not too pleased.
Speaker 6 (44:21):
That got a little chippy after that.
Speaker 5 (44:22):
No, so bennitting Matherin, give me some smother chicken please.
Speaker 6 (44:27):
Pacers Thunder coming up tonight seven thirty will continue to
get you set for that one. They are a notable
underdog seven and a half point underdog for this one.
They will honor it. Sounds like kind of unveil the
Eastern Conference Championship banner. Don't expect it to be a
huge production, but sounds like they will do that here
coming up for opening night, Jack Doyle gonna join us
(44:48):
here in a few James. Are the Titans good in anything?
Speaker 5 (44:54):
I stumped?
Speaker 13 (44:59):
I was thinking, man like the movie remember the Titans
is pretty good. But the actual team right now that
I'm remembering from a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 5 (45:05):
No, They're not good. They have that really good running
back though. Gosh, remember the Titans one right on the tire. Oh,
I'll see what you're doing.
Speaker 6 (45:13):
Remember the Titans is such a great flick. I will
and how many feet are in a mile? When you
have when you have this matchup?
Speaker 5 (45:21):
Break my foot off of your I'm sorry, go ahead.
Speaker 6 (45:24):
This is literally first versus worst. I mean, it's the
Colts are the best point differential team in the NFL
plus ninety.
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Six, which is just nuts.
Speaker 6 (45:35):
By the way, the Titans are the worst minus ninety two.
That is one hundred and eighty eight points separate these
two teams.
Speaker 5 (45:46):
I was trying to get a math with my head
on do I carry the one? Do I do this?
Speaker 6 (45:49):
And like the Colts are easily first and the Titans
are easily last. Like, it's not like it's a it's
a close race to second on the list, or it's
a close race for Tennessee and thirty first on that list.
Here again I was. I laughed inside when I heard
one of the Colts players in the locker room yesterday
out of the phrase it would mean the world to
them to knock us off. How many times in NFL
(46:10):
locker room as a team said that about their opponent
in October? This is not like a two and fifteen
team in December.
Speaker 11 (46:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
And also it's a division rival.
Speaker 6 (46:20):
Right, Well, I don't know about rival, but it is
a divisional opponent.
Speaker 13 (46:24):
Well yeah, I mean, but you hate each other. That's
very well documented throughout the years. So I don't know, man,
that is I just feel for cam Ward. I'm like, brother,
you got drafted in sense of the ABYSS Titans.
Speaker 6 (46:40):
Three highest paid players all misspractice yesterday. That would be
Calvin Ridley, that would be Jeffrey Simmons, and that would
be Lugerious sneed So health also not on their side
heading into week eight. So again Colts and Titans coming
up Sunday, that is a four to twenty five on CBS.
Speaker 10 (46:57):
You mentioned your like Pacers bet earlier that you were
in towards like them being the sixth seed.
Speaker 6 (47:02):
Uh yeah, top top six seed. Uh huh oh so.
Speaker 10 (47:04):
Not specifically the sixth seed, okay, correct, No, just in
the playoff.
Speaker 6 (47:10):
I gotta confirm with Jason hamberhnho joins US at at
nine point thirty, but I'm pretty sure it was as
a top six seed. Maybe it was just the playoff bracket,
but again, you get the play in games. And that's
kind of weird, okay.
Speaker 10 (47:21):
Because I looked at like specifically, like them being the
sixth seeds specifically, and it's plus twelve hundred.
Speaker 6 (47:26):
Yeah no, no, no oh no, that's two yeah, like work, Well,
can you imagine the papers somehow got the five seed
and you don't win that.
Speaker 5 (47:32):
That's fah, I know, that's plus sixteed.
Speaker 10 (47:34):
Those are great odds that you just laid out there.
But Terry Rozier is very interested in those numbers.
Speaker 6 (47:38):
Yeah, quite the news item that we'll get to in
a sports checkdown here coming up in a few In
all seriousness about the Titans, if there is one one thing,
they do have taj Spears back, he didn't play in
Week three, Tony Pollard, taj A Spears. They are healthier
on their offensive line than they were in Week three. Again,
(47:59):
I'm really stretching here. I don't believe what I'm saying
to be clear, But if there's one thing that if
you're a Titans fan and you were trying to talk
yourself into it, maybe they can run it with some
effectiveness with those two guys. But yeah, I'm not holding
my breath at all. Yeah, no, not at all.
Speaker 13 (48:18):
I mean I'm looking at NFL pro, which for those listening,
it's like this website via NFL that you can set
up and look up certain I guess, just weird kind
of random stats about certain teams and usually give a
couple that are like positive. There are no positive ones
for the Titans. They say that cam Ward has just
(48:38):
four passing touchdowns this season, few us among all quarterbacks
to make more than five starts.
Speaker 5 (48:45):
Tough sledding, Nah.
Speaker 6 (48:47):
Very tough. That's why you're a two touchdown underdog here
coming up in week eight. All Right mentioned it earlier.
I've enjoyed the Jack Doyle podcast appearances over there on
the Colts Audio Network, him and Matt Taylor weekly and
the Pride of the East Side former Pacer ball, which
I think it's important to reference that on a night
like tonight, He joins us here in the eight o'clock hour,
Jack Doyle, good morning to you, sir.
Speaker 14 (49:06):
How are you?
Speaker 11 (49:07):
Yeah, good morning guys. Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 6 (49:10):
Your Your favorite memory as a ball boy?
Speaker 11 (49:13):
Ooh, there're some good ones. I remember getting. I wore
like a ragley pair of shoes one day as a
ball boy, and Jamison Brewer gave me a new pair
of shoes, a new pair of basketball shoes.
Speaker 6 (49:27):
Shout out Jamison Brewer.
Speaker 11 (49:29):
Jamison Brewer. They on the side of them in sharpie
it said a town. And I remember rocking the shoes
all around town. But Yeah, there's a ton of great memories.
I remember Reggie working Reggie's last regular season game. That
was obviously really cool. So yeah, really cool for a
kid who was obviously a huge Pacer fan.
Speaker 5 (49:49):
So Jack, I like to ask football players this all
the time.
Speaker 13 (49:52):
When did you know, Okay, the basketball court ain't my thing,
I probably should go to the grid iron.
Speaker 11 (49:58):
Yeah, I don't know. Basketball, It was definitely my first love,
you know, and then going into high school, you know,
kind of got sucked into the cathedral football world and
and and just kind of stuck with football. There was
never really an exact point where you know, I thought,
you know, football, you know, that was gonna be my future,
my true future. So probably more like college. But yeah,
(50:22):
you know, you know, my advice to kids now is,
you know, just just play as many sports, play as
many sports you can for as long as you can,
right because you know, it goes fast, and and enjoy
it while you're in it.
Speaker 6 (50:33):
Is there any more debate than an NFL locker room
than who is the best basketball player?
Speaker 8 (50:38):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (50:38):
It's talked about constantly, constantly, and then you and then
they always go after like you know, there's always you know,
obviously the Colts, and we have Moley Cox and and
he's the former basketball player, so every everyone's always going
right at him, right, so you know, they they're always
challenging Mo and being like, hey, I could take you,
you know. And and now there's basketball hoops up. I
think they got one in the indoor and probably one
(51:00):
in the team meeting room. But yeah, basketball is debated
constantly in the locker room.
Speaker 6 (51:06):
That is the voice of Jack Doyle. He's with us
here on the pay list.
Speaker 5 (51:09):
The picture of Jack Doyle GUARDI would be I think Jack.
Speaker 6 (51:12):
Doyle could give the pace for some some minutes tonight.
That's that's just me. I mean center position right now,
it's a bit dire, so you know, we could we
could use him maybe to pick up some fouls if
nothing else. On chet and Isaiah Hartenstein. Jack I asked
this to Shane Stiken yesterday, Like offensively to me, it's
I mean, it's historic, it's surgical, it's clinical. Like to Shane,
(51:33):
I said, Okay, of all the numbers, of all the
things you've witnessed offensively, what is the most impressive element.
And I'll ask that to you of everything you have
observed offensively, when you watch that side of the ball
right now. The most impressive element to it is what.
Speaker 11 (51:48):
The efficiency on first and second down. You know, it
just doesn't feel like we're in a third and long
really ever. And when we have been, we've converted. So
I've just been so impressed with with the lack of
negative plays and you know, maybe pilotis were up a
little bit early in the season and that kind of
you know, that's kind of just getting back into the
swing of the season. I feel like too, the refs.
(52:10):
The refs included in that. But yeah, just the the
efficiency of this offense. And I mean guys, I mean, Kevin,
guys are running wide open. It's just crazy to see.
And I think Shane's just you know, I kind of
mentioned it, you know, you said, you know we're doing
the doing the podcast with Matt Taylor. I just feel
like Shane's on fire as a play caller right now.
You know, he it seems like he knows what the
(52:31):
defense is doing, you know, before the play even starts,
and him and Daniel are so connected and the way
they're trying to attack a defense. It's just I mean,
I just as a fan, it's so fun to watch
this offense right now.
Speaker 5 (52:45):
Yeah, I personally.
Speaker 13 (52:46):
Think that Shane and Daniel are like AI components and
they just work well together.
Speaker 5 (52:51):
I don't think they're real people. I think they're kind
of just like robots.
Speaker 13 (52:53):
They go plug in and then download the new player
for the next week, and they go out there and execute.
Speaker 5 (52:57):
That's why it looks like this so far.
Speaker 13 (53:00):
But Jack, and more serious note, how much do you
think the arrival of Tyler Warren has changed the math
when it comes to this offense? Because as you've seen,
probably an understand more than anybody else, the way they
move him around is very unique, and it seems like
other teams can't quite contain him because of the versatility.
Speaker 11 (53:19):
Yeah, the versatility is huge, and that's a you know,
that's a play caller's dream is to have a tight
end that can that can do everything. And then you
you combine that with Shane and in the mind he
has and the way he sets up an offense and
and always attacking and moving guys in different spots. And
you know, in the NFL, everyone runs the same concepts, right,
Everyone gets to the same spots and runs the same place.
(53:42):
But it's how you you know, it's how you you
know put them in formation and the prestat motions and
the and hiding guys and and and the way you
attack can can look different, but you know, it's all
guys getting in the same spots. So when you have
a guy like Tyler Warren who can just literally do everything,
you know, you put him in the backfield and doing
Isell blocks and then he's in the backfield at fullback
(54:04):
and you're sneaking him out on over routes and corner routes.
I mean, like I said, that's a play callers dream.
So I know, Shane's just just loving, you know, having
Tyler on this team.
Speaker 6 (54:14):
He is mister Doyle to those at Saint Pius A
couple days a week as a pe teacher. He's with
us here on the Payloss Lickers hotline. That would be
Jack Doyle. And again the Jack Doyle Podcast with Matt
Taylor has been a great listen here in the twenty
twenty five season. Jack, I apologize, I do think it's
maybe a hair unfair when you're not necessarily in the building,
but you know, again your observations, I definitely hold it
(54:37):
high regard. When you look at twenty nineteen, you guys
got off to a really good start that season. From
a record standpoint, I want to say it was five
and two. And now you look at this year at
six and one again. I know you're not in the
six and one locker room, but just outsiders view, how
do you kind of view what you guys were doing
in twenty nineteen, albeit surviving some of those games one
(54:58):
score wins, versus what you witnessed here in the six
and one start.
Speaker 11 (55:03):
Yeah, the first thing comes to mind is, you know,
in nineteen, they I don't know the scores of those
early games, but it felt like they were all tight,
one score games. And the way that the cults are
just dominating right now. You know, I just heard you
say the point differential, what was it ninety six or
something like that. I mean, that's just that's just crazy.
That's just crazy that And there's no been no letdown,
(55:25):
you know from week to week. You know, you think
of the Titans game earlier in the year, you know,
we came out rolling right away after a great win
against Denver. So just not seeing the letdown and and
a lot of guys you know are still around from
that nineteen team or you know around from you know,
teams that kind of, you know, maybe we didn't carry
(55:46):
the momentum from game to game and we're you know,
you kind of didn't know what we were going to get.
So I think the veteran leadership has been huge early
in this season and keeping guys focus and locked in,
you know, and taking it week by week.
Speaker 13 (55:59):
So, Jack, You're last year in the NFL was the
same year that Jonathan Taylor won the rushing title, named
the first team All Pro. From that player to the
player you're seeing now, the difference is.
Speaker 11 (56:11):
What, Yeah, I mean, he was rolling at the end
of twenty one, and so I would honestly compare to
what he's doing right now early in this season to
kind of what he was at the end of twenty one.
I think the main difference is we probably have a
better passing game to go with that you know, would
go with right saying right now this season in the
way we're attacking teams because we're we're relying heavy on
(56:35):
Jonathan there and at the end of twenty one. But
you know, what I've seen from Jonathan and the way
he you know, the details that he's you know, he's
practicing and putting in each and every day. You know,
I can think back to you know, when we played together.
He was always off to the side, catching extra passes
right and and and always working on his hands. And
(56:57):
then you see the improvement he's had as you know,
picking up witzes this year. I've noticed that early on.
And so yeah, he just he just continues to get better,
which is crazy because how good. You know, how good
he was when he first showed up. And he's just
a high character guy and a great person. So it's
a lot of fun to see him rolling.
Speaker 13 (57:16):
That's what's so crazy to me is I'm looking at him.
I'm like, man, how did you get better?
Speaker 5 (57:20):
Seemingly?
Speaker 11 (57:21):
Now?
Speaker 13 (57:21):
Granted, like you said, the offense is better, but you
were already a first team All Pro. That's nuts to me.
But then on top of that, I have to give
some credit and I know you would love this to
the offensive line. I feel like, you know, they're they
have been understated, which is probably a good thing.
Speaker 5 (57:34):
We don't miss the offensive line. They're probably not messing up.
Speaker 13 (57:38):
Yeah as well, they've been playing well. But uh, for
a guy who played alongside Quentin Nelson, when you see
him do his thing, I guess as a teammate and
then also on television. Now, what is that like to
be in the same realm or locker room as a
guy who is that unique at that position.
Speaker 11 (57:58):
Yeah, he's special, man. I'm I'm thinking of the block
he had on like the twenty yard run Jonathan had
this past week against the Chargers, and he, you know,
reached the shade, you know, a shade on the center
and cut him off and Jonathan goes right behind him
and goes untouched for twenty or whatever for a touchdown.
And Quinton's just such a great leader too. I Mean,
(58:20):
we can talk about how he plays the guard position.
You know, he's a future Hall of Famer and all
time great and all that fun stuff. But the way
he he holds guys accountable. You know, you you don't
want to let Quinton down.
Speaker 14 (58:31):
You know.
Speaker 11 (58:32):
I remember back when we were playing together. You know,
I always got great joy out of like a Monday morning,
we'd be in there and Quinn come up to me
and be like, hey, on this play Jack. You know
that was an awesome block, and you know it made
me feel good. You know, he's highlighting you know, when
when when I did when I did a good job
in the run game or something like that. So he's
just a great leader obviously a great player man, and
(58:53):
he just you know, fa one of another. You know,
great thing about Quinton He's always the first guy to
go help up Jonathan too. You know. I always used
to try and raise him to the running back and
try and beat him there and be the first guy
to help up the back or the receiver whoever you
just got tackled. But he's always the first guy there.
It's like, man, how are you everywhere? And then still
blocking you know, a premier defensive tackle. It's just is
(59:16):
this crazy? What he does?
Speaker 14 (59:17):
You know?
Speaker 11 (59:17):
Play and play out?
Speaker 6 (59:18):
That's a holy spirit ram right there on the payloff
Stickers hotline, Jack Doyle with us here on this Thursday morning, Jack,
last one for me and I really enjoyed you sharing
this story a few weeks ago, you know, on your
podcast with Matt Taylor, when the Cults are getting ready
to play Arizona, it looked like Jacoby Brissett was going
to be the starter. Obviously, you and Jacoby plenty of
history together, I think, very close, and you told the
(59:40):
story about Jacoby's first start as a cult. Just to
refresh everybody's memories. Twenty seventeen, Scott Tolzene starts that first game,
Jacoby had just gotten traded here, doesn't go well, Colts
start Berseet then that second week and you said, there
was a moment in the huddle where you know, maybe
the full playbook wasn't fully known yet by Jacoby and
he just looked at you and told you what what
(01:00:02):
are you running here?
Speaker 11 (01:00:04):
Yeah? That was awesome, man. So it was fun to
think of that because you know, Jacoby comes, you know,
the Cardinals are back for the first time in eight years,
right back to Lucas Oil, and the last time they
were here, Jacoby was starting for the Colts in his
first game. But yeah, that's one of my you know,
early memories in that that game, you know we played
back in twenty seventeen and Jacoby's first start. I was
(01:00:26):
kind of, you know, running a middle read, so you know,
I had a you know, a steam bender route if
it was too high, and then if it was one high.
I was running a basic which is like an end
route at ten to twelve yard en route and we're
in the huddle and Jacoby called the play. Maybe we
were like in a TV timeout or something, and I
remember him looking at me and be like, hey, what
are you running here? And I, you know, I told
him what I was running and he was And you know,
(01:00:47):
when we kind of break the huddle, I'm like, man,
I go to line like I'm getting the ball, Like
he has no idea what else is going on in
to play, So I better be ready and I better
get open. And we ended up hitting it for a
first down. So yeah, it was a lot of fun.
And I, you know, I love Jacoby. I was, you know,
I kind of mentioned this on the podcast, like you said, Kevin,
I was. Uh, I was a little conflicted watching that
(01:01:08):
last job, to be honest, when the Cardinals were kind
of driving because Jacoby is one of my best friends
and uh, you know, I obviously want him to do well.
But I was glad he played well and the Colets
got the win. But uh, but yeah, Jacoby is the man.
Speaker 6 (01:01:21):
Yeah, it was a hell of a effort. Sound like
you played pretty well last week as well. All right,
Jack Doyle, pe teacher, what are we are? We three
days a week at Saint Pis Is that correct? Right
now to Monday Friday? Having a lot of fun, you know,
we're on volleyball now, so you know, Cyo volleyball season
for the girls just started, so they're super fired up.
(01:01:44):
I'm still trying to figure out how to set these
nets up.
Speaker 11 (01:01:48):
Any advice getting the yet getam tight. And then the
kids are just you know, they're purposely hitting the ball
into the net. Yeah, just hitting his herd and I'm
just like, don't touch the net, you know, don't touch
the net or or lap you know. So so that's
you know, that's the life of a pe teacher right now.
But no, I'm I'm kind of joking. I'm having a
ton of fun.
Speaker 14 (01:02:07):
You know.
Speaker 11 (01:02:08):
They're a great group of kids, you know, I think
they're enjoying having me in class. So yeah, we got
roller skating coming up next, so wish me luck, you know,
hopefully I don't Yeah, hopefully I don't break a wrist
or anything like that.
Speaker 6 (01:02:20):
But picture and watching like ESPN Classic back in the day,
and all of a sudden the Oat Show roller derbyond
and they're just elbowing each other over the over the railing.
Here your favorite either sport that you've taught or activity
so far in the gym.
Speaker 11 (01:02:35):
You know, I really enjoyed handball. Just we did handball.
So handball, if you know, you can't envision it, it's a
you know, it's basically, you know basketball with soccer. You know,
you use a kind of small ball that's bouncy, and
you can dribble, and it's a team sport and you're
trying to throw the ball in the net. But if
you can envision a basketball court, you can't. You have
(01:02:57):
to shoot from like the three point line and the nets,
you know, kind of at the baseline under the hoop,
and you have a goalie and all that fun stuff.
And yeah, I actually had a teacher at Western Kentucky,
you know, when I was getting my physical education degree
who played for Spain's Olympic team in handball. So I
learned a lot about handball through him. So it was
(01:03:17):
fun to kind of pass that down to the kids,
and I think the kids enjoyed the game.
Speaker 5 (01:03:21):
It's like water polo on land.
Speaker 11 (01:03:23):
I feel like, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's a good
way to explain it too.
Speaker 6 (01:03:26):
Yeah, every time I watched water the Olympics, I just
am reminded about how un athletic I am.
Speaker 11 (01:03:31):
How much I can't swim.
Speaker 6 (01:03:32):
Oh my gosh, I don't.
Speaker 11 (01:03:34):
Know how they do that. So true.
Speaker 6 (01:03:36):
I'm just like, can I just have a beer at
the side of the pool, the great Jack dough It's
been an awesome listen, Jack, great work with you and
Matt Taylor. Usually every Tuesday that thing posts up and
it's been a fun listen. So I appreciate you doing
that for all of us, and thanks for hopping on
to them.
Speaker 14 (01:03:49):
Man.
Speaker 11 (01:03:49):
Yeah, I appreciate you guys. Enjoy listening to you guys.
You guys do a great job.
Speaker 6 (01:03:52):
Best to you and the fan. That is a great
Jack Doyle right there on the Payless Liquors hotline. You
have a favorite elementary pe memory, Mark Dyton, you said, steal.
Speaker 10 (01:04:01):
The bake, steal the bacon when you saw that going
on that or if you're playing dodge while you saw
those rubber balls out on the court, you're like, yes, yes,
it's gonna be a good day.
Speaker 13 (01:04:11):
I remember, I don't know if it wasn't necessarily a game,
but remember when it had like the big uh like.
Speaker 5 (01:04:15):
Colorful, yeah, yeah, you throw greater and it was just like, yeah,
that that was the dream. I feel like to heaven
at that point. It was great.
Speaker 6 (01:04:28):
Shout out to mister will my pee teacher when I
was at Cherry Tree. I will never forget. One day
he is on the other end of the basketball court
and he is saying to all of us like something
to the effective, I guarantee you I can make this shot.
And we're at the other end of the court, and
I believe it was some sort of you know, hey,
if I make it, you know, you guys have to
run whatever X amount of laps and if I miss it,
(01:04:50):
you know, all run or you know, there's some sort
of reprieve there. And he is again, you know, seventy
feet away from the hoop, and our naive elementary three
kid ages we agree to it, and what does he do.
He turns around and just shoots a little four foot
bank shot off the other hoop. We thought he was
gonna shoot at full court.
Speaker 5 (01:05:10):
That's actually really good.
Speaker 6 (01:05:11):
And I'm like, man, that is that's like Shane stacking
Daniel Jones chest versus checkers. We were we are opposing defenses,
and he was dandel.
Speaker 5 (01:05:19):
Red Rover out there as well.
Speaker 10 (01:05:21):
But then they're like, I know, breaking arms, right, get
a little physical I know, I feel like people won't
do that anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:05:27):
Just looking back at all the things we did when
we were kids.
Speaker 10 (01:05:29):
What was the worst one where we were like, oh god,
when you saw like the rope when you had to
do the rope climbing, Oh god.
Speaker 6 (01:05:34):
How Presidential Fitness test man. When they made me start
to stretch, it was like, yeah, I mean just the
other one with just send me home.
Speaker 13 (01:05:42):
The pacer tests in high school. Oh yeah, the beat
you gotta go back in the cross.
Speaker 6 (01:05:48):
The pacers do the beat test. Now that's part of
their condition.
Speaker 5 (01:05:50):
We understand t. J. McConnell was the best at it.
Would start prize.
Speaker 11 (01:05:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:05:53):
I think Ben Shepherd was pretty good at it, which
I don't think is a surprise.
Speaker 10 (01:05:57):
What were those things where it was like at all
there's like the where with the four wheels on it?
What the hell were those things called?
Speaker 6 (01:06:03):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, this little scooter?
Speaker 5 (01:06:05):
Yeah is that what they were? Like seat scooters or whatever?
Those things were awesome. I know, like, how do I
take these home?
Speaker 13 (01:06:10):
I had a couple of fingers that, you know, regretted
being put on the ground.
Speaker 5 (01:06:13):
During those days. You also realized how filthy that Jim
floor was with your hand.
Speaker 6 (01:06:18):
Good lord, we could talk about this for an hour
that mound in a few let's hit a quick morning
checked out.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
The Morning checkdown on ninety sweet five and one oh
seven five.
Speaker 6 (01:06:28):
James injury wise for the Colts yesterday, seemingly improved health
at white out and questions at defensive end.
Speaker 13 (01:06:34):
Yes, you saw Josh Downs out there in a red
non contact jersey, but a good highning. He's practicing and
trying to get through the concussion protocol. Ashton dueling back
out there as well from a chest injury, and like
you said, defensive ends Sampson Ebukom and Taekwondus were both
not practicing yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:06:50):
Again, the Titans are bad at football and their three
highest payed players all been practiced yesterday. So uh, not
looking good here coming up Sunday four twenty five, fourteen
points face the Colts here in week eight Tonight. It's
a seven and a half point underdog the Pacers in
the thunder inside of Gamebridge Field outs. That is a
seven thirty tip for the Pacers. Jars Walker, Johnny Furfey
(01:07:12):
little nagging injuries, but it sounds like they are both
good to go for the thunder. No, Jalen Williams, that's
the good Jalen Williams and Alex Caruso, who I don't
need to remind Pacers fans what he did in the
NBA Finals. He is dealing with a concussion actually, Cason
Wallace lou Dort both questionable, So a couple injuries here
for the thunder Again. You can not only watch this
(01:07:32):
on ESPN, but also of course FanDuel twentieth year for
Christen Aaria and on these airwaves year thirty eight for
the legend that is Mark Boyle. We'll probably hit on
some other stuff as the show moves along, But James,
for those that missed it earlier announced by Sean Sharnia,
and feel free to provide any details that I'm missing here.
We have a sports betting gambling probe involving an arrest
(01:07:57):
of Miami Heat guard Terry Rogier that obviously is very
interesting on many many fronts. It's probably one of the
more prominent players in any professional league that I've seen
involved in this. So far, we await details. It sounds
like later this morning in a press conference will be held.
Have you read or found anything else?
Speaker 13 (01:08:17):
Well, here's what Shams is reporting in this. This happened
when Terry Roseier, who's currently a Miami Heats player, played
for the Charlotte Hornets in a New Orleans Pelicans game
back in twenty twenty three, and it says an unexpected
surge of bets, including thirty wagers in forty six minutes
from a professional better totally over thirteen thousand dollars came
(01:08:37):
in betting the under on Rosier's points, rebound, and assists
that game. And he played ten minutes and left again
with the foot injury. So, like I told you earlier,
that is a huge irregularity in sports betting because one
Terry Rozier a good player, but not like a star player.
And then while all of a sudden is everyone getting
those many bets in for the under in that short
(01:08:59):
amount of time.
Speaker 6 (01:09:00):
Interesting. More details on this coming up later today. All right,
on the other side, fad Moda, the Butler Bulldogs took
on Notre Dame over the weekend, great attendance inside of
hinkle FIELDOLS will chat about that and one more exhibition
game left here for the Bulldogs, so we'll do that next.
It is the Fan Morning Show right here are ninety
three five one oh seven five Ben quite the morning
(01:09:21):
in the NBA off the court. We'll continue to update
you on the latest regarding that and Pacer Thunder coming
up tonight. That is seven thirty opening night inside a
Gamebridge Field House, and talking about great nights, it was
a fun night inside Hinkle field House, going back to Friday,
A star studded night with plenty of notable attendees inside
(01:09:43):
that building for Butler Notre Dame. The first exhibition game
of the season for the Bulldogs off Indiana State coming
up next week before they transition, of course, into their
regular season slate. And to talk more about all of that,
he is the head coach of the Bulldogs. He is
a fad modic coach. I thought that was an awesome
atmosphere on Friday night exhibition game. I get it, But
kudos for you and Michael Shrewsbury for getting that done.
Speaker 17 (01:10:06):
Yeah, no, it was. It was honestly just a tremendous
night and in a lot of ways, you know, first
and foremost, like you guys said, the crowd was incredible
for an October seventeenth basketball game, and I thought for
our team, that was a great way for us to
learn a lot about ourselves. And you know, as I
(01:10:28):
told the team after the game, I said, hey, we
can take this, and we had a lot to learn
from and I thought not her name played as I
told the guys, like they had seven guys that had
played together. We played like we had eleven new guys
on our team. And so it's been good. We've we've
been able to really, you know, dive into the film
and say, hey, we thought we were maybe better at this,
(01:10:50):
We're not as good. We did these things well, and
so we've had a good since Friday, We've had a
great week.
Speaker 6 (01:10:57):
What did you like and what did you maybe not like?
I get you got a ton of new faces, obviously,
but what we're just kind of your overall thoughts on
the floor from Friday.
Speaker 17 (01:11:06):
Well, I like the fact that we were able to
get a lot of guys a lot of minutes. And
I think, you know, that was something that we we
as I told you guys going into the game, we
were going to do, you know, getting getting guys, experience,
getting new guys, just the opportunity to play in Hinkle.
You know, I thought we had some some good offensive possessions. Uh, defensively,
(01:11:27):
we weren't as sharp as I wanted to be. We
we Uh, you know, we gave them just too many
open shots. And uh that's been a real focal point
going into practice since the game. And and you know
we didn't we didn't get into our offense as quick
as I wanted to. And uh, you know, we've we've
got to play with more pace, that's for sure, Coach.
Speaker 13 (01:11:48):
What did you like from Finley Bizjack in particular, you know,
veteran guard for you and someone I would think you're
relying on a lot when it comes to leadership and
things of that nature.
Speaker 17 (01:11:59):
Yeah, I thought it was really good. I thought that, uh,
you know, you could tell that he was a veteran
for us, and and you know it fact he got
off made shots and and I thought he the thing
that probably went the most unnoticed. I thought he probably
played his best defense that he's played in his time.
You're at Butler and we need that from Findley. There's
there's no.
Speaker 11 (01:12:19):
Doubt about that.
Speaker 17 (01:12:19):
But uh, I thought he did a really really good job.
Speaker 13 (01:12:23):
So when you recruit a player from Trophy Club Texas,
I believe.
Speaker 5 (01:12:29):
Do you just think he's a winner? I mean, how
like movie esque?
Speaker 11 (01:12:33):
Is that?
Speaker 12 (01:12:34):
No?
Speaker 17 (01:12:34):
It is?
Speaker 14 (01:12:35):
It is incredible.
Speaker 17 (01:12:36):
I've asked him a couple of times like are you
sure it's called trophy? And uh, it's more the Fort
Worth area, but uh no, I mean, you know, we
we knew we had a really good player when we
got Findley, and it just just to you know, you
don't see this very often anymore, you know, see a
guy in the same uniform for three seasons, and you
know you I'm just very proud of his development and
(01:12:59):
and intend the guys that wants to keep playing better.
There's there's no doubt.
Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
About that again, And that's a voice of fad Mata.
He's with us here on the payloss Slickers hotline. Butler
will have Indiana State on Wednesday? Can hear that on
her sister station? Fuego ninety two point seven their final
exhibition game before they get into the regular season. You
begin coach with Southern Indiana and IU Indy right out
of the gate. I think there are some teams, you know,
(01:13:23):
that are considered whatever Power conference teams that might shy
away from playing in state opponents for whatever reason. Obviously
you try to regionalize it to some degree in the
non con but still playing the in state teams they
might shy away from you you don't really Why is that?
Speaker 17 (01:13:42):
Yeah? I think a lot of it just you know,
you're trying to fill these games and get them in there,
and hopefully if they're both teams, that did you learn
I FRO. I know they're going to have contrasting styles,
and I think from that perspective which you try to
get in the off season, no matter where they're from,
is is just just different looks that you're going to
(01:14:03):
play against throughout the season. So you've got reference points
to go back and say, hey, we've guarded this, We've
we've you know, had to go against this type of defense,
you know, I you Indy, they they press and and
that sort of thing, So that that'll be you know,
that's kind of what you look for. And if it's
in state, you know, so be it. But that it's
(01:14:23):
more to me about trying to get contrasting styles.
Speaker 6 (01:14:26):
I'm watching kind of the first big night of the
NBA last night, coach, and you know, they're showing a
bunch of games and all of a sudden, I come
across Minnesota and it's year nineteen. For your former point
guard in Mike Conley junior. Do you recall the first
time you watched Mike Conley play.
Speaker 11 (01:14:43):
I do I do.
Speaker 17 (01:14:44):
I think it was up at North Central High School
in a back gym, And I'll never forget the first
three times I watched Michael play. I did not know
if he was right handed or left handed. And I
remember like going out to my car being like, ohoo,
you know you're this big time college basketball coach. You
got to games together because I don't know what hand
he is. And obviously he was amidextrious and he played
(01:15:05):
left handed, but he was actually right handed. And I
knew right from the get go that kid had a chance.
And you know, he's just he's got those jeans, he's
got that body. He can probably play for another five
years if you wanted to.
Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
So now you got me going down the rabbit hole?
Speaker 13 (01:15:21):
Can can you just explain for those I think around
here they know how good Greg Olden was and why
he was the number one pick, because I swear I
get a Kevin Urrant, great player, all time, great number
two pick that year. But I feel like there's a
revisionist history in ro I talk to anybody around my age,
I'm twenty nine, who's.
Speaker 5 (01:15:37):
Like, oh, why did they do that? I'm like Greg
Olden was a monster.
Speaker 14 (01:15:41):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 17 (01:15:42):
You know, people asking me all the time, who's the
best player you've ever coached? I said, it's not a
fair question. You know, Greg was an anomaly to college basketball,
and you know, I'd never seen he was the most
dominant player I've ever coached, and just by being on
the floor. You know, you think about his one year
we had him, he led us to the national championship
(01:16:04):
game with one hand. His dominant ham was broken in
that cast. And it was just unfortunate with his with
his injuries, that he wasn't able to have the career
that he was going to have, because I think he
could have been one of the greatest to ever play
a game of basketball.
Speaker 6 (01:16:18):
Yeah, that is certainly certainly true. Coming up Wednesday inside
Hinkle Field, Aws, it'll be Butler in India State again,
continued best wishes to Matthew Graves in his recovery there
from heart surgery. The Sycamores will be inside of Hinkle
taking on that Mada's Bulldogs coach. Looking forward to more
convo throughout the year. Again, it was an awesome night
on Friday. Enjoyed being in there and good luck coming
(01:16:38):
up on Wednesday.
Speaker 17 (01:16:40):
That sounds good. Let's do it again Wednesday night and
hopefully you'll see a better basketball team.
Speaker 6 (01:16:44):
That is sad Mada right there on the Payless Liquors Hotline,
James Boyd. The NBA always seems to be in the news,
and it has been quite the Thursday morning. Here we've
mentioned Terry Rogier arrested in some sort of gambling. We
await more details on that current Miami Heat guard. I
don't think he played last night after double check that, uh.
(01:17:07):
And then the other name that has now been arrested
this morning, and boy, this must have been an early
wake up call for this individual.
Speaker 13 (01:17:14):
Hall of Fame point guard Chauncey Billups, who is the
head coach of the Portland Trailblazers, who just played and
lost last night against the Minnesota Timberwolves out there in Oregon.
Holy leap man, that is unbelievable. This is according to
ESPN sham Serandia. But yeah, arrested by the FBI never
(01:17:37):
sounds like a good deal.
Speaker 6 (01:17:39):
No, I would say arrested period. But yeah, when you
throw in the acronym of FBI, that's.
Speaker 5 (01:17:43):
Oh, Cam Jones is like in paradise right now.
Speaker 6 (01:17:46):
Yeah, yeah, talk about getting swept under the rug there.
Speaker 5 (01:17:50):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (01:17:50):
Uh so yeah, We'll try to share any details with
you as we get them here throughout the rest of
the morning for what it's worth. And again, correct if
I'm wrong, James, you said there is a report out
there that the billups side of the gambling was not
on Portland Trailblazer games. Is that correct?
Speaker 13 (01:18:07):
Yes, this was according to an NBC report that I saw. So,
of course, a lot more to come out of this,
and I believe you said earlier and according to multiple reports,
at this point, there will be a press conference from
the FBI at ten am to kind of discuss all
of these findings, and so i'd imagine between now and
then more info will trickle out. But I'm very curious
(01:18:29):
all of a sudden to kind of tune in and
see what goes on after our show ends.
Speaker 6 (01:18:34):
And I need to double check all this. But I
believe the rules from professional sports leagues. I thought the
NBA you were allowed to gamble on other sports, like
you can bet on the NFL, you can bet on
college football, those sorts of things, whereas the NFL, if
I'm not mistaken, you can't dabble in any of it
(01:18:55):
is that true. I believe.
Speaker 13 (01:18:57):
I believe the NFL players can bet on anything NFL games,
So it's just like the NBA.
Speaker 6 (01:19:01):
Both leagues are the same.
Speaker 5 (01:19:02):
I believe that is correct.
Speaker 6 (01:19:03):
Some reason I thought there was a difference between one
of the two leagues.
Speaker 13 (01:19:05):
No, you know what's crazy, And I've gone over this
and I'm like ninety nine percent around on this. NFL
employees who aren't players can't bet on anything, That's what
I'm thinking of.
Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
But NFL players they get the exception to the rule.
Speaker 6 (01:19:18):
That's what I'm thinking.
Speaker 13 (01:19:19):
So if you're you know, Matt Taylor, can't bet on
anything he works, can't bet on IU UCLA. But if
you are a cult player, if you are Daniel Jones,
you can bet on college football, which I mean, hey,
players get privileges. Who would have more insight a current
NFL player on a college football you know, teams over
(01:19:42):
under or you know the random guy who works for
the team.
Speaker 14 (01:19:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:19:45):
So again, this billups report sounds like here. Yes, there
is an initial report saying that it is not to
do with game s he coach. Nonetheless, the details should
be interesting. So welcome back, NBA. Here you go. Here's
your headline here on the first morning after your big
a slate to start the season. All right, much more
on all of it. Pacers Thunder opening Night, and we'll
do that. On the other side, Kevin bow and James Boyd,
(01:20:06):
Mark Dyton. You know I've always been team bucket hat,
and I know James Boyd supports me in that one
thousand percent.
Speaker 5 (01:20:14):
Oh you know me training camp, I could have used this.
Speaker 6 (01:20:17):
These are excellent. Thank you to Eddie White, the one,
the only you'll hear him tonight the world's greatest postgame show.
He's in studio with us. It's opening night and per usual,
Chris Kringle, Eddie White comes bearing gifts here, Eddie, these
are excellent. First off, the bucket hats and can you
put these up to the camera?
Speaker 11 (01:20:36):
Here?
Speaker 6 (01:20:36):
What we got here?
Speaker 18 (01:20:37):
Well, first of all, the bucket hats that you guys
are wearing.
Speaker 6 (01:20:40):
Where's the camera? Yeah right here?
Speaker 18 (01:20:42):
Ook, okay, here's showing them to the camera. You got yeah,
they are these are what do you call cake pops? Well,
the basketball theme. You know, they're with the Pacers color
team and that's for you guys to eat and enjoy.
And the bucket hats for those listing the first five
thousand people that come to the game tonight. We'll get
that bucket hat. And you guys look really good in
(01:21:03):
that bucket hat.
Speaker 6 (01:21:04):
Oh thank you.
Speaker 18 (01:21:05):
I mean really good something I couldn't wear. I look
like the skipper from Gilligan's Island. I'm not a bucket
hat guy. I'm more of a visor guy. But you
guys are good.
Speaker 6 (01:21:13):
Yeah, you're more of a visor and a stokey guy.
It sounds like you want to be in the building
early for many reasons. Coming up tonight, you mentioned that
I want to share this. Rick Carlisle texted this morning,
moment of silence coming up tonight pregame for Nancy Leonard,
and this from Rick. As most of us are aware,
(01:21:34):
without her, a strong case can be made that from
the perspective of professional sports, none of us would be here.
He wants to spread the word of fans attending the
game tonight that after the moment of silence and before
the national anthem, that everyone will engage in a standing
ovation to honor this special woman. Eddie. I know we
had you on. I believe the morning after Nancy's passing
goes without saying. Rick's right, I've said this many times
(01:21:55):
about Peyton Manny, But Nancy Leonard's in the same boat.
Without those people, us four are probably not in the
studio right now.
Speaker 18 (01:22:01):
No, when we talked, when she passed, it was her
idea to have the telethon. So a lot of times
people have great ideas, James, you have great ideas for
an article. If you don't have that idea, the article
never gets written. If she doesn't have that idea, there
isn't a telethon. If the telethon is not successful, the
team doesn't stay. So sometimes you got to go back
(01:22:24):
and see where was the first brick that was put
in the foundation. She was the first brick of this foundation.
If that lady didn't have that idea and then the
whole city didn't get behind and execute it, none.
Speaker 14 (01:22:36):
Of us are here.
Speaker 18 (01:22:37):
There is no there's no reason to have a fan
sports station in Indianapolis. There are no pacers, there are
no fever and I couldn't help but think as listen
to you guys driving down. There's that line in the
in the song by Garth Brooks the Dance, where it
says I could have missed the pain, but I would
have had I would have had to miss the dance.
(01:22:57):
And the dance could either be all the Pacers games
since Nancy and Bob started it, or could be we
can go back to just this past season. Those who
are eight years old, ten years old, who got behind it,
you guys who covered it. We all enjoyed it and
lived it that the end was painful, but the dance
(01:23:17):
is something that we'll never forget. It's why we all
do what we do. There's a line that sometimes when
you have in your worst day, remember these are the
jobs we wanted. And you know, that's why you cover
what you do. That's why you talk about what you do.
And when you have a magical run that they put
us on, which I don't think we'll ever see again,
especially the individual one that Aliburton did, and you couple
(01:23:39):
that with what the fever did, the resiliency. You guys
talked about it with just you know, the appoint where
they were in stickers, Hello my name is and then
this run at the Colts are on now, and then
you add in spread it out, produce basketball run, the
Indiana football run. You know, if this is a great
time either be a fan or cover the teams in
(01:24:01):
Indiana and again I'll get just tell you and now
I'm old, and as you get old, and you guys
will get old. One I go to a doctor every
freaking week. Enjoy the dance, whether Kevin, it's you with
your kids or it's us with sports. Enjoy the dance,
regardless of how it may end.
Speaker 6 (01:24:18):
Enjoy the dance. I got super well said. Kind of
pains me a little bit to give you that big
of a compliment, But I guess when you bring these
gifts in here, I guess I have to so again
pregame Eddie. You've got that will have the acknowledgment of
the Eastern Conference Champion banner. It goes out saying opening night,
especially giving the opponent, it's gonna be an awesome night
inside a Gambridge field House. But again, get to your
(01:24:40):
seats early seven thirty tip, just to remind everybody. So
getting those seats a little bit early probably a good
night to have a little bit of a later start.
Speaker 18 (01:24:46):
And doors will open at six thirty and we'll have
a little party outside on the Vice Centennial Morris Plaza.
And just in our building, which is the Saint Vincent
Centerwai practice. They put up pictures and stuff like that
and a lot of them are from that championship run
and you know, and you should celebrate that.
Speaker 5 (01:25:07):
I mean, we had had an.
Speaker 18 (01:25:08):
Eastern Conference championship in a long long time and uh,
and here we go again, and it's such a long season.
Speaker 5 (01:25:13):
Remember where we were last year fifteen games end.
Speaker 18 (01:25:17):
Of the sea, twenty games of the season were all like, oh,
what's wrong with Halliburton the team's on.
Speaker 5 (01:25:22):
That made the playoffs?
Speaker 11 (01:25:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 18 (01:25:23):
Yeah, can they make the playoffs? And then uh and
then again that that dance, that run and here we
are and it's something to just enjoy it.
Speaker 6 (01:25:32):
It's why we do what we do.
Speaker 5 (01:25:33):
So Eddie, what season is this for you? And does
it feel like that number to you? I believe this is.
Speaker 18 (01:25:40):
I joined them in the middle of the season. It
was January of some year. Was I joined them, like
the week before they let go Jim O'Brien. So O'Brian
was going out and.
Speaker 14 (01:25:50):
I came in.
Speaker 18 (01:25:51):
Uh, And so I think it's fifteen or sixteen years
now with the Pacers, but of course they've been around
here for thirty some years. And uh, but it feels
I just every you know. I talked with Boyle the
other night of the thing, and it's just like thirty
eight for him. And it's like when you get to tonight,
And a lot of times we used to open the
season on the road, you know, and then we'd say
(01:26:12):
our opening night, which now this is really opening because
it's the first game and it is at home. Because
of what we accomplished last year, it's gonna it's gonna
be a special one. So you just get energized because
you don't know what's gonna happen, and you hope you
have a There's no way we have another run like
last year, is there?
Speaker 5 (01:26:30):
I mean, I would I would want to say yes.
With Halliburton.
Speaker 13 (01:26:34):
It pains me to say probably not, But I think
that makes me say to what we saw even more
just because I mean the guy I was watching some
of the highlights, probably a couple of days ago, Halliburton
had like a career montage happened in a matter of
two months.
Speaker 6 (01:26:48):
Yes, Mark plays in these highlights the intro the show
and it'll be up on the podcast for those that
missed it. To lead off, And like I found myself
here at seven oh one and forty two seconds in
the morning getting chills listening to all of the different calls,
and then I find myself in Mark, I don't know
if you're this way when you hear the audio of it,
you're like, now, which.
Speaker 14 (01:27:05):
One was that?
Speaker 8 (01:27:06):
Was that?
Speaker 7 (01:27:07):
The Calvs one?
Speaker 12 (01:27:07):
Was that?
Speaker 8 (01:27:08):
The was that?
Speaker 6 (01:27:09):
The Bucks one?
Speaker 12 (01:27:09):
Was that?
Speaker 6 (01:27:10):
The thunder one? And then you you know you had
the Michael Grady one from the t Wolves game in
the season, like Obi topping that was such a magical
regular season night.
Speaker 10 (01:27:18):
Just there are so many highlights that go through where
you're like, wait, how many? Good lord, there was a
lot of highlights, remember regular season and otherwise dis We.
Speaker 6 (01:27:25):
Talked about the contract extension earlier this week. For me,
the Nie Smith, I'll remember the tip dunk against Cleveland
off the off the free throw, and then yes, what
he did in game one.
Speaker 5 (01:27:33):
Some of the greatest playoff forms is ever for the Pacers.
Speaker 6 (01:27:36):
Before you get to Halliburn hit one to the moon. Eddie,
remind us again, first five thousand and night, get the.
Speaker 18 (01:27:41):
First five thousand and get the bucket hats. You will
look as handsome as these two characters are wearing them.
And the door's open at six thirty and you're right,
so it's a half hour later. The normal starts are
at seven. Tonight is at seven thirty, and then we
go on a road for three games, you know, and
again the game. If you can't get there in person,
of course you can see it on television. You can
listen to it right here, Mark Boyle, Eddie Gill, Pat Boyle,
(01:28:03):
and to have the pregame show at seven and of
course after the game, the world's greatest post game show
now Marconi winning. Now you may be doubters like how
can you say that? Or this is how I'll leave
you with this. In the history of North American professional sports,
I include hockey, I include baseball, I include the National
(01:28:25):
Football League and of course the NBA. In the history
of those four sports and all their teams, never never
has a post game show had after a game a
head coach of one of those four teams call into
the show and a head coach of one of the
other four teams call into that show. It happened here
(01:28:49):
on a night when Frank Vogel and Chuck Bagono both
called in to Pacers overtime. And last year we had
now one of our famous callers. We don't take a
lot of callers, but Caitlin from down town.
Speaker 6 (01:29:01):
So hence Stephen from Carmel may be called Don as well,
Steve from the North Side, Steve yep, yep, yep yep.
Speaker 18 (01:29:07):
So I think it's very worthy of the tag world's
greatest postgame show.
Speaker 5 (01:29:12):
He is the quarterback of it all.
Speaker 6 (01:29:14):
He is the one, the only Edward Oblanco Eddie White
with us here in studio. Eddie, thank you, sir, Go
pacers go Irish. Amen, how about our running.
Speaker 5 (01:29:23):
Backs come on around.
Speaker 6 (01:29:24):
Jeremiah Love right here.
Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
Hey, let's get the rematch.
Speaker 6 (01:29:26):
Give me a little highs notre dame at I can't
take that. I want it.
Speaker 5 (01:29:31):
I want agree with.
Speaker 6 (01:29:32):
Everything you said until that, We'll talk a ton more
about pace with thunder On the other.
Speaker 1 (01:29:35):
Side, they sees a fan morning show with KB Kaby
and Jeff eleven seconds left to play, driving off of
Bryan screen to the wing of the baseline of the goal,
across the lane into the corner.
Speaker 7 (01:29:52):
An impossible three is trained by.
Speaker 2 (01:29:56):
Toppin' Aliberton with six tisshoe dances against a tete.
Speaker 7 (01:30:00):
Both gives to Turner three to shoot step.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Bag three left edge dagger Bagger. Turner hits its fourth
three of the game, McConnell again dropped it for Turner
and he's paid sorry.
Speaker 6 (01:30:14):
Tell them end of the lane and duncton t J.
Speaker 7 (01:30:17):
McConnell is taking over this game. The Pacers shake it
to the other end.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
Turner runs right into antetecoombo and the fence rises to
its seat as.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
He threw it down.
Speaker 7 (01:30:29):
Here comes Haliburt hits the timeline with seven outside the
yark with five driving in the lane at the.
Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
Goal, he lays it hands with one of three ten
seconds to go.
Speaker 7 (01:30:42):
Milwaukee has no timeouts.
Speaker 14 (01:30:44):
They have to go the lake.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Paul is going to be played in by a tetecoombo.
He gets it to tread and this one is older.
It's rebounded by Haliburton. Four seconds to go.
Speaker 19 (01:30:56):
Haliburton for three three all up top Indianna by one
one in one ten seconds to go inbound Merril didn't
get it off and this.
Speaker 7 (01:31:09):
Rivals the Milwaukee finish. Hardlow's gonna let him play. Haliburton
steps back and him hance.
Speaker 20 (01:31:18):
Tyrase Halliburton try to take Cleveland's.
Speaker 5 (01:31:22):
Heart sober The Aana.
Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
Pacers in a game two stunner. It's seventy two to
thirty seven. Do not adjust your dials, the Smith attacking.
He got to the baseline turner with it three to shoot,
two to shoot.
Speaker 7 (01:31:43):
Oh my goodness, what is happening here?
Speaker 8 (01:31:51):
Bar Oh my?
Speaker 6 (01:31:52):
A three from the left side.
Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
It's seventy five to thirty seven into the four Courtina
Smith turn.
Speaker 7 (01:32:00):
There is feeling it and why not?
Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
Why not?
Speaker 12 (01:32:03):
Why not?
Speaker 7 (01:32:04):
A three frost two miles away out on the left side.
This cannot possibly be happening.
Speaker 6 (01:32:12):
Is absolutely insane.
Speaker 5 (01:32:14):
That's going on in this building right now.
Speaker 7 (01:32:16):
A forty one point lead. Pacers have four seconds to
score one more time. Here comes ne Smith. He'll get
it off from the wing, and of course he hit it.
Speaker 6 (01:32:26):
Of course he hit it. Has the fans empties a
run that we will never never forget. Mark Dyton tremendous
per usual in a opening morning montage. I texted Mark
at about six forty this morning. I go, dude, I'm
(01:32:48):
sorry for asking for you this late, but any chance
we could get some openers. Mark responds, I'm already on it,
this guy.
Speaker 10 (01:32:56):
I feel like that's lost guy I had months ago. Actually,
I'm ready to go because I'm gonna.
Speaker 6 (01:33:01):
Say I'm gonna play these just a rerack from May
and June, right, Yeah, pretty much, so many games there.
You know, when Boyle is saying, you know, Turner shooting
it from Kocomo and all that, I mean it just
it brings back two miles away Game four of the
Cleveland series and they put up was it eighty three
in the first half. I'm trying to think what the
number was. Just incredible, all of it. So we'll get
(01:33:24):
to set again for tonight seven point thirty reminders the
tip time, but we need people off that concourse in
the seats well before that because you're gonna get the
unveiling of the Eastern Conference Banner and Rick Carlisle just
shared with us this morning. They will have a moment
of silence for Nancy Leonard and a highly highly encouraged
(01:33:44):
standing ovation for the legend that is Nancy following that.
So again, butts in the seats. I know, we like
to mingle and we like to do the whole concourse
thing for quite a while. You're gonna want to be
in the building early tonight, seven thirty tip, but getting
there early for both of those James before we get
to Scott Agnes. Quite the transition from a celebration of
(01:34:04):
opening night in uh, I guess our market here from
a PACER standpoint, but the NBA news cycle has been
quite juicy here this morning. Could you fill us in
on where are we at from a FBI standpoint? And yes,
those letters are applicable here.
Speaker 13 (01:34:22):
Yes, So this is the latest from ABC, which you
all know that ESPN is an affiliate of ABC. So
ABC News has reported that Portland Trailblazers head coach Chauncey
Billups has been charged in an illegal poker operation tied
to the mafia. Law enforcement sources have told ABC News
time say that again, Johncey Billups has been charged in
(01:34:45):
an illegal poker operation tied to the capital m mafia.
Speaker 6 (01:34:51):
Unbelieve this year?
Speaker 11 (01:34:52):
Is it?
Speaker 19 (01:34:54):
Later on?
Speaker 6 (01:34:56):
Is the mafia existing port That's what I said.
Speaker 5 (01:34:58):
I was so confused.
Speaker 13 (01:34:58):
And then it says my Miami heat guard Terry Rozier
was arrested in a separate but related betting case, which
is confusing to me because it separate is it related?
Speaker 5 (01:35:09):
I don't know. I'm not a part of the mafia.
Speaker 13 (01:35:10):
I don't have any idea what's going on, but yes,
I had to google like the mafia, and I feel
like that's something I see in like a Netflix series
or something like a documentary or a I don't know,
a drama, not an actual real life twenty twenty five storyline.
Speaker 6 (01:35:26):
Yeah, I feel like I'm reading the onion And just
to update everyone, I guess.
Speaker 1 (01:35:30):
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted
to be a gangster.
Speaker 6 (01:35:34):
Roach here in Billups a pro year in the league
for over a decade, made one hundred and sixty million
Chauncey Billups career over one hundred million year? What five
for him, mister trail Blazers fifth season? Just to kind of,
you know, check all the boxes there, boy, let's head
of the Paylostickers hotline right now. Nothing says good morning
(01:35:55):
to Scott Agnes like that, Scott, Welcome to the NBA beat.
Speaker 14 (01:36:00):
Every day is unpredictable, you.
Speaker 6 (01:36:02):
Got it, I mean unbelievable. I know you're probably just
getting this news just like we are. In details unfortunately
are still a little bit vague, but just your overall
thoughts on these headlines, yeah, what are we doing?
Speaker 8 (01:36:16):
Like, come on, guys, like you've made millions in a
great league like the NBA, and.
Speaker 14 (01:36:22):
Yeah, we don't know too much more well beyond that,
but when you.
Speaker 8 (01:36:27):
Accept money from gambling, you also accept the consequences and
in these cases that might be that that way, And
I mean Adam Silber, one of the main questions he's
asked about during all interviews is gambling, the impact, the
concerns and every day. I'm sure it's something they have
to talk about at the headquarters of New York City.
Speaker 13 (01:36:48):
Scott, I need you to, you know, put out a
statement on behalf of all Beat writers when it comes
to covering NBA team and say, hey, I don't actually
want to go cover the mafia as well, So let's
just make sure that all the pacers on the up
and up there.
Speaker 1 (01:37:04):
Breaking news from Nutty three five and one oh seven five.
Speaker 10 (01:37:08):
The fan Damon Jones of the NBA has also been
arrested with the FBI in connection with charges announced today.
No indication he's tied the bet on games, but according
to people familiar with the matter, he has also been arrested.
Speaker 6 (01:37:21):
Damon Jones like the old school basket.
Speaker 5 (01:37:22):
Damon Jones, former NBA player, Yeah, coach, I think he
coached the Cavaliers for a little while there.
Speaker 6 (01:37:29):
Like like I'm picturing shooter Damon Jones, right, that's a
good shoot Okay, gosh, unbelievable. Well, at this point, now,
I guess we just sit here and hope that nobody
associated the Pacers are involved with this.
Speaker 5 (01:37:40):
I don't want Scott to work like that or open
they cover the game really really j Yeah, let's can
we talk about that.
Speaker 14 (01:37:46):
Yeah, we got to celebrate the basket.
Speaker 6 (01:37:47):
Yeah, sure, I agree, Scott. I feel like at this
point every NBA team has played besides the Pacers tonight
seven thirty inside of gamebridge Field House, point guard, center,
which one you're more curious about tonight?
Speaker 8 (01:38:02):
I'm more so center, just because this could be something
that they are concerned and dealing with all season long.
Whereas point guard, I think it's kind of just can
you get to the next month and in the meantime
you can have fill ins and guys can play out
a position, but maybe, like look, center, you got guys
that have never been full time starting centers here in
(01:38:24):
the NBA, two guys coming off significant injuries, and nobody
really played confidently or solidified themselves or did it well
enough job of staying out of foul trouble in the
four preseason games that we were able to see. And
you look around and what was the biggest takeaway, at
least for me opening night, was size, physicality, aggression that
(01:38:46):
was both played by the players and allowed by the officiating.
And if that's the case, that's something to where the
Pacers obviously will have to adapt.
Speaker 6 (01:38:55):
Can you survive I don't want to say eighty two nights,
but can you survive I have a majority of your
nights with Obi Topping as the five man.
Speaker 8 (01:39:06):
That's the probably the question they're having to discuss in
the coaching room throughout this week is I think that
would work in Spurs. I just don't know if it
can be there full time, just giving the different matchups
and the size discrepancy right there against Houston or perhaps
even against an OKAC like we'll see.
Speaker 14 (01:39:23):
Tonight with with some of the size that they have.
Speaker 18 (01:39:27):
Now.
Speaker 8 (01:39:28):
I'm a big proponent of playing your best group, playing
the bunch that you are most confident in, rather than
adapting to your opponent all the time, right depending on
the opponent. But I think that's that might be the
case for the Pacers team this season is roll a
different center out depending on who's out there and leaning
into it.
Speaker 14 (01:39:48):
But is it sustainable all season long? I'm just not
seeing it.
Speaker 5 (01:39:53):
So, Scott, when I look at this roster, obviously you
know who the core four is.
Speaker 13 (01:39:58):
In one of those core four is I think in
a more unique situation than the other three just because
of this contract situation. So what in your mind would
define a successful beneting mathering season and can that be
paired with a successful Pacers season?
Speaker 8 (01:40:16):
Yeah, That's That's been the whole thing all along, right
is do his skill does his skill set in him
at his best match and empower the Pacers to be
at their best I think I think what a very
successful season for him would be to be one of
the top to finish the season in the starting lineup,
which mean it worked out, it would.
Speaker 5 (01:40:37):
Probably be a top three score on the roster.
Speaker 8 (01:40:41):
And have all of us been like man, he really
locked in defensively, took ownership at that end of the floor,
took pride on that into the floor, and he has
us wanting to see more out there. And so he's
still very young, He's being asked to do very different
things that he has in the past. It's just can
he do it within the flow of the offense. And
(01:41:03):
as much as they want to play fast and use
that as their weapon, against all these teams, you don't
want the ball to get stuffed? Do you want to
make that half second decision like so many of the
coaching staff has talked about.
Speaker 13 (01:41:17):
And Scott is that Do you think that's a bit
counterintuitive to a degree because you don't have Halliburton. Because
part of me, I'm not gonna lie if this offense
gets a little stagnant. I want to be able to
hit the Maverick will get a bucket button. And I
think that could come in handy this season, considering that
you're not going to be operating at your highest offensive output.
Speaker 8 (01:41:36):
Totally agree there, Yeah, absolutely, there'll be times, especially as
you know, the grind of the NBA season, the third
game and four nights and all right, so who's got
the energy?
Speaker 14 (01:41:47):
Oh it's mad? All right, Let's just keep feeding.
Speaker 8 (01:41:49):
Him like we saw in that one preseason game where
he has what like twenty one points in the first half.
Speaker 14 (01:41:53):
Like, you don't want to nick.
Speaker 8 (01:41:56):
His superpower, but you also would like to maximize it
within the flow of the offense, for sure.
Speaker 14 (01:42:01):
So I think to your point, I think there can
be good balance.
Speaker 5 (01:42:04):
There is.
Speaker 8 (01:42:04):
You can encourage this one thing, but look if if
the matchup is good or the way in which the
opponent's defending them. Hey, let's lean into that. I think
that's one thing about this coaching stuff, as well as
the adaptability and how they don't get pigeonholed into any
one thing.
Speaker 14 (01:42:18):
And they're not calling a lot of plays.
Speaker 8 (01:42:20):
I think along the same lines as they might have
to call more plays, may have to call situations to
get them more organized into flow of things when you
don't have your franchise point guard able to do that
for you.
Speaker 6 (01:42:33):
Is it too early to make a joke about this
Johncy Billups gambling thing.
Speaker 5 (01:42:40):
Leave Scott out of it?
Speaker 6 (01:42:42):
Well, yeah, I know, I probab should wait till Scott
was off the line. I'm simply relaying a message here,
this from Wes on our text line. I think we're
all familiar with, you know, Detroit Pistons, PA announcers, you
know Detroit basketball. Yeah, I feel like I have that
ingrained in my head. Those Pistons teams didn't They often
(01:43:02):
say Chauncey blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. But
Billups wasn't that also kind of a kind of a
go to phrase. How about a Chauncey blah blah blah
blah blah busted.
Speaker 5 (01:43:15):
Oh lord nothing boom No, not feeling that one, brother.
Speaker 14 (01:43:21):
I think it's well played. It's just the sensitivity of
the moment.
Speaker 6 (01:43:24):
Oh come on, yeah, it's the Pistons man. I thought
that would give Mark Dykon to crack a smile.
Speaker 14 (01:43:29):
Gee.
Speaker 10 (01:43:31):
His bigger issues right now. He's got the Mafia on
his tail. I think he's ducking a cover.
Speaker 6 (01:43:36):
He answer the door for the FBI or the Mafia.
I'd probably vote for the latter, honestly.
Speaker 5 (01:43:40):
Uh, it's gonna the Mafia look like in twenty twenty five.
By the way, you don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:43:44):
I love how James clarified earlier he's not a part
of the mafia.
Speaker 10 (01:43:47):
And be my strong boldie on door da running late,
trying to make sure you know we get everything you
know on up and up.
Speaker 6 (01:43:53):
James got his PACER's bucket head on record to.
Speaker 5 (01:43:55):
Make us You're like, hey, anything I've done. You know,
if I downloaded music from.
Speaker 6 (01:43:59):
Lottwire, I apologize how many YouTube MP three converters have
done in my day. Scott will end with this and
Mark's been playing these montages, you know, kind of all
morning long from last year's run. If I removed remove
Halliburton from it, one memory for you from last year's
run would be what you can't pick Halliburton good or bad?
Speaker 14 (01:44:21):
Yeah? To me, I come back to the city KB,
it's my hometown.
Speaker 8 (01:44:23):
It's the way in which this team, or sorry, this
city rallied around this team.
Speaker 14 (01:44:28):
How much joy it gave.
Speaker 8 (01:44:29):
How many times on walks around downtown Kevin, I was
walking and seeing just Pacer flags hung up like that
took me back to childhood.
Speaker 14 (01:44:38):
Where where this was not just a you know, happy
to be here. This was not just hey as it may.
Speaker 8 (01:44:44):
Yet it's time for the Indianapolis five hundred. So for me,
it was the way in which this team represented themselves
on the court, and then as much so, how much
the fans rallied behind that message and became believers in
a group that without the belief in themselves, would I
have gotten as fart as they did.
Speaker 11 (01:45:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:45:01):
I think that's really really well said. You know, I
remember saying it after watching Game seven unfold kind of
had a college high school feel to it, and how
connected I think so many fans felt towards the Pacers.
So get it started again tonight again seven thirty. Tip
you want to be in your seats though, Honor Nancy
Leonard also have the unveiling of the Eastern Conference Championship banner.
You want to make sure you're in your seats for that.
Well before seven thirty, Scott Agnes field House files his
(01:45:25):
coverage is there, Scott, A lot to get to this morning.
Appreciate you being a.
Speaker 14 (01:45:29):
Good sport Absolutely, Happy new year, see you guys.
Speaker 6 (01:45:32):
Happy New Year. Indeed, boy, Happy New Year.
Speaker 14 (01:45:34):
Two.
Speaker 6 (01:45:34):
Some others around the NBA. All right, before we get
to a morning checkdown, let's just go over everything, because
this is obviously the news of the morning. What would
you guys say? Around eight eight thirty, the first report
came from Sean Sharnia of Terry Rogier arrested for a game.
Speaker 13 (01:45:49):
Shots pable Tory based off the Tom stamps he scooped
him first a well toy, you know. When he's on it,
he's like a dog on a bone.
Speaker 6 (01:45:56):
He's our like bleed investigator of some of these big
sports stories right now. And on the Rose year front,
do we have any details yet on that? I apologize
I've been mostly a headline reader.
Speaker 13 (01:46:06):
No, not really, but I think what's been under investigation is,
like I said, that game that he played he remember
of the Hornets a couple of years ago, where suddenly
within about a forty five minute time period you had
a bunch of bets coming in betting the under. And
then he left that game with a foot injury and
did not play for the remainder of the year. So
obviously very irregular to have that many people suddenly want
(01:46:29):
to bet on a guy who isn't a star player
and to that point had averaged I think twenty one
points a game, and then you're suddenly at you know,
betting the unders on everything, and then he leaves the
game I think after a few minutes of playing.
Speaker 6 (01:46:41):
And this sounds separate from then Chauncey Billups, which the
yeah Phillips headline, and again just to cover all of
our bases herero Is Year has been in the league
for a decade, one hundred and sixty million, He's made
blah blah blah. Currently a reserve with the Miami Heat.
Chauncey Billups has been a head coach for the Trailblazers
here for the last four seasons. They have and good,
but it sounds like this one has nothing to do
(01:47:03):
with basketball by all accounts, and literally the headline that
I saw was a poker operation tied to the mafia, right,
and so the phrasing that ABC used was that it
was separate but related. So Terry Roseier case as well.
So we'll see how that all intertwines here. When the
(01:47:23):
FBI gives a press conference in about forty minutes I believe,
out in New York. And then on top of that,
Damon Jones, former Calves player, Calves coach as well, assistant
coach I believe. I don't know if he's coaching right now,
but he has been swept up in this as well.
So that is not ideal, boy, an ideal? Yeah, thanks lightly, I.
Speaker 13 (01:47:47):
Would say, I mean, I can't say what I really
want to say on the airways. I want to say, blee, blee, bleed.
Speaker 5 (01:47:51):
What are you guys thinking the mafia say?
Speaker 6 (01:47:54):
I mean, gosh, boy, I'm not gonna lie. When I
saw the Chauncey Billups gambling inside, it kept on thinking,
shout out to Kyle Klein's house. When I want a
poker tournament. I want three hundred dollars at a poker
tournament in seventh grade.
Speaker 11 (01:48:05):
There.
Speaker 6 (01:48:06):
I remember how hard in middle school. I remember how
hard I worked for the twenty dollars buy in, Like
I think I mowed lawns and you know, watch neighbors dogs,
and I was like, oh my god, you.
Speaker 5 (01:48:17):
Out that for twenty dollars. Well back in the day,
he wasn't making no money, was.
Speaker 6 (01:48:21):
Broke, and yeah, I just was so happy that I
had twenty and then as soon as it went away,
I'm like, now I'm sweating here. But then I won
the tournament. So hopefully the FBI won't be knocking on
this door. All Right, quite the news cycle here, We'll
keep it a little more localized on this morning.
Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Check the Morning Checkdown on ninety sweet five and one
oh seven.
Speaker 6 (01:48:40):
Five the ban So James tonight inside a Gainbridge field house,
injury report wise, the thunder No Jalen Williams, it's the
good one. Alex Caruso in concussion protocol, lou dort Case
and Wallace both questionable. So I could be looking at
some different thunder faces tonight here against the Pacers. Obviously,
I don't think I need to say Tyr's Halliburton name.
Eighty two nights out of the year. We know he
(01:49:02):
is out, We know TJ McConnell is out, but Jars Walker,
Johnny Furfrey, both the almost some injuries, they look to
be good to go. We did the minutes debate earlier
in the show. Who do you think gets a backup
point guard run tonight for the Pacers?
Speaker 5 (01:49:17):
Dare I say Taylor Peter?
Speaker 6 (01:49:22):
And I think there's a section of our audience that
has never heard of Taylor Peter.
Speaker 13 (01:49:25):
So for those that have pick from Liberty, he's a shooter,
can certainly fill it up, very efficient player in college.
But I mean you look at the guards that they have,
or rather not have at their disposal. He's someone I
think could possibly get into that rotation early in the season, and.
Speaker 6 (01:49:41):
Not a point guard.
Speaker 5 (01:49:42):
To be clear, Now this is here's the keys to
the offense, right, don't turn the ball over.
Speaker 6 (01:49:47):
We'll se about J. J. Dennis, you know, and you
know Quentin Jackson unfortunately is out with a hamstring injury.
So Pacer scrambled a bit here on opening night to
seven and a half point underdog with the thunder all
right over there at West fifty sixth Street. Ye yesterday
it was practice number one for the Colts. And I
would say a decent bill of health. Josh Downs still
in a non contact jersey, but he did get back
(01:50:08):
to practice with the concussion protocol. Same with Ashton Doolan
with a chest injury, but James defensive end. They probably
will have to turn to the second round pick out
of Ohio State for some important snaps on Sunday.
Speaker 13 (01:50:20):
Yes, JT tweem Molow I would expect to possibly get
a bigger role this week considering Matt sampson able com
is week to week with a knee injury and Taekwon
Lewis's day to day with a groin injury. So hey,
the guy's been, you know, unable to get consistent role
on the field this year, so kind of by default
(01:50:41):
will he get there on Sunday?
Speaker 6 (01:50:42):
And again first versus Worst coming up on Sunday. The
Colts are an NFL's fest plus ninety six in point
differential through seven games. The Titans are an NFL worst
minus ninety two in point differential. So why is this
a two touchdown spread? There you go on that, and
what a perfect time to have Jason Hammer join us
here in five minutes as we will do legal gambling.
Speaker 5 (01:51:03):
Ham in such a slow news day. I'm sure he
will have opinions about this.
Speaker 6 (01:51:07):
I know he's got a pacer bet that. I think
I'm gonna tell her more to say than me saying
it's not ideal. How about that she asked him, I
mean mafia guys. He knows he probably won't tell us.
But the favorite thing each of you saw last night
in the NBA, because opening night there were a lot
of impressive individual performances, James, I'll go to you first.
Speaker 13 (01:51:23):
Victor Wimmin Yamba. He is unbelievable. Shout out to Wimby.
That's why I wanted to have the Indie to Winby
shirts or Wimby to Indie shirts made years ago because
I knew this kid is gonna be special. Not saying
anything that's groundbreaking, but watching him last night was like
watching someone play against like your nephew or something. It
(01:51:44):
was unbelievable. He made Anthony Davis, who's a future Hall
of Famer, Froze brow the Hall of Famer looked like
a traffic cone.
Speaker 6 (01:51:50):
Forty and fifteen and thirty minutes for women's.
Speaker 10 (01:51:53):
Step back threes, donks blocks you name it, Mark, I
mean Webin Yama was outstanding.
Speaker 5 (01:52:01):
I was also surprised. Cooper flag debut not so great.
Speaker 6 (01:52:04):
Yeah, four to thirteen for him. In that same game
he did have ten and ten, but yeah, four thirteen
for flag.
Speaker 13 (01:52:09):
You know what, someone should investigate Jason Kidd all right
because the flag.
Speaker 5 (01:52:14):
He's not a point guard. The way the morning is going,
who knows. We just saw that we just lost the
poster behind you?
Speaker 6 (01:52:20):
Did I thought I taped that up pretty well.
Speaker 5 (01:52:23):
I see James's ones are coming undone too. Yeah, it's
better not be an omen man.
Speaker 6 (01:52:27):
Did you just jinks our season tape on the ball
with with this material? Probably not my best bet there.
A couple others. Anthony Edwards forty one a dagger last night,
rookie vj edge Com had thirty four for the seventy
six ers. He's out of Baylor. Miles Turner eleven points,
eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks, four of twelve shooting
(01:52:48):
for Miles and his debut as the Bucks got it done.
A couple other items college football this weekend again a
couple of noon kickoffs. It'll be big noon. The Fox
crew down there in Bloomington, Indiana. Very similar face as
last week. About twenty five points against Ucla and Purdue
a home underdog against Big Ten winless Ruckers. Somebody gets
(01:53:08):
their first Big Ten win this season, either Rutgers or Purdue.
We'll see your produce. Starting quarterback will be after Ryan
Brown got hurt last week. Much more on the gambling
investigation around the NBA sounds a couple different instances of this,
and Jason Hammer sets us up for Thursday night and
a couple other picks that he likes here on the
Fan Morning show ninety three five one O seven to
(01:53:29):
five the Fan. Well, it's been a hell of.
Speaker 10 (01:53:32):
A Thursday morning. I must say, Mark Dyiton, excellent, per usual.
Queued up the Goodfellow soundtrack. Thought that was appropriate on
this Thursday.
Speaker 14 (01:53:41):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (01:53:41):
Yes, I love very very good. As we have a
gambling probe involving a couple of NBA individuals and Terry
Rogier and Chauncey Billups separate the Billups one and I
say this in all seriousness about the headline involves a
poker whatever, a poker game or probably plural games with the.
Speaker 20 (01:54:02):
Mafia right now. Listen, don't be surprised. And again we
don't know anything yet. Presser's at ten don't be surprised
if that's Russian mafia, because those dudes have been running
poker and gambling rings around this country for years. Most
high profile example if you remember that movie from about
twenty years ago with Matt Damon Rounders, Oh iconic movie
(01:54:24):
Teddy KGB running the poker ring right pay that man
his MANI like, I don't know, maybe it is americanized,
you know, standard Italian mafia.
Speaker 14 (01:54:35):
Could be.
Speaker 20 (01:54:36):
We don't know yet, but don't be shocked if it's
Russian mafia. But I will say this is if Scott
Foster is a part of this by Parlay Hiss, I'm
one Scott.
Speaker 6 (01:54:48):
Foster away from.
Speaker 17 (01:54:52):
You.
Speaker 5 (01:54:52):
Just vote for probably all of like NBA gambling Twitter
right in Texas.
Speaker 6 (01:54:57):
The Ladies, by the way, I had the voice of
Jason Hammer. I think everyone knows joins us every nine
or every Thursday at nine thirty here in football season.
And we do have some cheers ing to do after
some wins last week. But Mark has had these great
montages for the Pacers as they get their season started tonight,
and I mean we're talking awesome highlights. And the first
response we got on the text line early this morning
(01:55:18):
was Scott Foster cost us a championship. The there we
are four months removed, these great highlights of Halliburton and
Nei Smith and topping and this and that in the
first one is yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:55:30):
Scott Foster the game four push off from from.
Speaker 6 (01:55:33):
SG believe the baseline push off there from.
Speaker 20 (01:55:36):
They don't give the nickname of the fixer to guys
that are calling a fair game. Right even at Home Improvement,
nobody called Tim Allen the fixer, and his job was
to fix things.
Speaker 6 (01:55:47):
So I'm just saying I'm.
Speaker 20 (01:55:48):
One Scott Foster away from cashing that four leg FBI parlay.
Speaker 5 (01:55:52):
Today, let's go.
Speaker 6 (01:55:53):
We have a ton to get to with you, Hammer
and you are ready to go here before we get
to your bets that we like and Eagle betting by
the way, here.
Speaker 5 (01:56:01):
First Chauncey Billups Lock of the Night coming up next,
brought to you by.
Speaker 6 (01:56:08):
And we'll do but I get tonight seven thirty facers
thunder getting your seats early. Not only that Eastern Conference
banner will be unveiled, but they will honor the great
life of Nancy Leonard and so you'll want to be
uh in your in your butts in the seats for that,
and then get your butts up because the standing ovation
certainly for her. All right, hammer, we got some cheers
(01:56:29):
in to do because last week you told us Joe
Flacco is the old man of the bachelor party. That
hit easily, the over hit easily. We went too out
of three last week. That's a winning weekend. Everybody cheers
the cheers here. Have a little shot.
Speaker 7 (01:56:43):
Here's for you, double barrel, double oak woodford here.
Speaker 5 (01:56:50):
M smooth, excellent.
Speaker 6 (01:56:53):
Oh boy, that is beautiful there that in a cake pop?
What more do you need here on a Thursday morning
to get the juices?
Speaker 5 (01:56:59):
Even I'm thirty seven yet.
Speaker 6 (01:57:01):
Okay, so I know you like a little Pacers action.
You also like a Colt's long shot. But let's stick
with what Scott is here Thursday night football tonight. I
actually like this matchup Chargers Vikings. Obviously long travel here
from Minnesota at Carson Wentz. Still there. I believe a
three point underdog as they hit the road, So tailor
of the tape here. Both teams had some pretty bad
(01:57:22):
efforts last week, but one team's at home, one team
has a better quarterback, and it's a field goal or less.
I'm trying not to overthink this too much.
Speaker 5 (01:57:32):
But I'm on the Chargers tonight and we're going to
lay the three. Joe alt back.
Speaker 6 (01:57:36):
By the way, it sounds like the Chargers stud tackle.
Speaker 20 (01:57:39):
Which is going to be huge, and I just feel
like the Chargers are in a spot here. I trust
Jim Harball to get this group back with Soda squad
going on the road, riding the Carson Wentz experience, leaning
toward the under. But the official play in this one
is we're going to lay the three. We're taking the
(01:58:00):
Chargers at home. If I'm going to play it, I'm
gonna lay it now. Prop bet wise, we're gonna go
with Justin Herbert over zero point five interceptions. I think
you can throw the ball on Minnesota. I think you
can throw it on him, and I know Joe alts
back and maybe they want to try to run the
ball a little bit. But I still see pressure getting
(01:58:21):
to Justin Herbert. And we saw it last week as
Colts fans. You put a body in his face, he's
prone to throw it to the other team. So we're
gonna ride the lightning over zero point five interceptions with
Justin Herbert and then tonight Keenan Allen over five point
five receptions, like you get plus money.
Speaker 11 (01:58:41):
I like this.
Speaker 20 (01:58:42):
That's a plus money bet over five and a half receptions.
Feels like a little connection may have been started last week,
and maybe that's the safety valve for Justin Herbert tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:58:51):
Yeah, I feel like.
Speaker 13 (01:58:52):
We saw a ton of those signs a least when
I was out in LA for the charges gave against
the Colts with the third and Keenan signs.
Speaker 6 (01:58:58):
So third down looking for Keenan all right, yeah, and
so basically we need Herbert to throw it, I think
tonight we want him to throw it successfully towards Keenan Allen,
but then have one hiccup here. Okay, you and I
mentioned this earlier in the show. You said a little
boost got you those Pacers' odds to get into the bracket.
Go ahead and cover that, because I know you and
(01:59:18):
I had that conversation earlier.
Speaker 20 (01:59:20):
So on Bette Rivers, one of the sites that I
play on, I had a profit boost. So not everybody
will have the same boost, but I had Pacers to
make a playoff series. Okay, so they could in theory
be the tenth team in the play in bracket. But
you would have to win your way into an actual series.
Mean top six, no, no, no, go ahead, it could
(01:59:43):
be top six, but if they get in that play
in tournament as a nine or ten, saying, as long
as they end up one through eight, right right, you
would have to win your way through to get to
a series. Okay, At the time I made my bed
it was plus two hundred. I think it's down to
one point fifty now, but I had the profit boosts
which put it over three.
Speaker 13 (02:00:02):
I like that though, I mean, looking at how east
wide open the East is in knowing how hard the
Pacers play, I mean, if you can figure it out,
it's center, it's a little bit you might be able
to sting into the playoffs with like a record that's
under five hundred.
Speaker 6 (02:00:14):
Honestly, I just don't see them waving the white flag
as quickly as other teams will. So yeah, this is
very simple. I just plugged in right now, plus one
fifty two pacers to make the bracket right one through
eight ten dollars bet gets you fifteen dollars and twenty cents.
Speaker 20 (02:00:26):
Vegas odds makers are saying the Pacers will not make
the playoffs because it's plus money for them to make it,
but if you have a boost of any kind, you
can throw it on that one. And if they get
through the playing round or one through six, your toes
are tapping here.
Speaker 13 (02:00:41):
Yeah, I mean I could totally see them getting in
at like forty and forty two or forty four or
something like that.
Speaker 6 (02:00:46):
Right again, Jason Hammer with this here Hammer and Nigel
you hear him every afternoon over on our sister station
WIBC Degenerates, Next Stole or a couple of gambling podcasts
he's got each week. Here. Is there any more Pacers
you like? Or should we transition to this Colts long shot?
Speaker 20 (02:01:01):
Let's do a Pacers bet Tonight's okay, first made three
pointer by a pacer tonight first made three pointer? You
can get Benedict Matherin at plus two ninety five. I
want contract year Benedict Matherin. I got a feeling if
the balls in his hands, it's going up. And all
I want is an opportunity here.
Speaker 6 (02:01:22):
Yeah, because Neon green light looks like a highlighter party
in college, right, so yes, and this is just for
the pacers.
Speaker 20 (02:01:28):
First made three pointer? Nie Smith is the favorite, and
then it's Matherin Siakam, Nimhart and Jackson, But there's not
a lot of difference between those folks. I think Matherin
at plus two ninety five feels right.
Speaker 6 (02:01:40):
I can get behind that. And again, he's never seen
a shot that he doesn't like. There on that, okay,
And then where are we at from a Colts and
plus two ninety five is pretty good juice on that?
Where are we at from a Colt's long shot? Because dude,
are you a philosophical Never touch a fourteen point spread?
Do you have any belief in that? Like a two
touchdown spread either way in the NFL, because it's rare.
Speaker 11 (02:02:02):
See this.
Speaker 20 (02:02:03):
Usually, if I find a home divisional dog in the NFL,
I'll hitch my wagon. But here you've got a very
heavy home divisional favorite. Fourteen feels like a lot. Don't
know if I want to touch that one, okay, because
that just reeks of a backdoor cover. I can see
the Colts being up by twenty one in the fourth
quarter and then it becomes rightly time or something happens
(02:02:25):
and you get that garbage time touchdown. Cam Woard tries
to be here right that beats you. But if you
want to get nuts Okay, we're playing with some profits
this week because we had a good week last week.
If you want to get nuts, Jonathan Taylor three touchdowns
at plus eight hundred. Now, the Titans can't stop the run.
I think they're second to last in the league in
(02:02:47):
defending the run right now. And three games this year,
and it's not like the Colts have played, you know,
a full season three times already this year, Jonathan Taylor's
had three touchdowns in a game.
Speaker 6 (02:02:58):
The odds are against you.
Speaker 5 (02:03:00):
It's certainly not a.
Speaker 20 (02:03:01):
Lock, but I think plus eight hundred for Jonathan Taylor
three touchdowns, I think it's worth taking a look at boys.
Speaker 13 (02:03:09):
You know what, I actually kind of agree with that
because I think I threw this out out there the
other week. He've got five games in his career with
three or more rushing touchdowns, and three of them.
Speaker 5 (02:03:19):
Have happened this year. Right For five seasons, it was.
Speaker 6 (02:03:23):
Two this year three, And that juice on that again
just to for our people out there that are not
you know, maybe as in tune to the plus and
the minuses. That would be ten dollars to win eighty.
So that is a very healthy return on investment there.
If Jonathan Taylor gets in the end zone three times.
Speaker 20 (02:03:38):
Looking at the Titans here, they've allowed eight hundred and
two rushing yards on one hundred and seventy nine attempts.
This is from the NFL Stats four point five yards
per carry. In terms of ranking, they're thirty first out
of thirty two teams in rushing defense this season.
Speaker 6 (02:03:54):
And Jeffrey Simmons is out, they're arguably their best defensive player,
arguably their best player period cam Ward.
Speaker 20 (02:04:00):
If you're looking for a prop on the other side,
passing attempts over thirty four and a half. If the
Titans are going to be in this thing, it certainly
isn't because they're running the ball down the colt's throat.
If they're behind, they have to abandon the run. Take
a look at cam Ward over thirty four and a
half passing attempts.
Speaker 6 (02:04:18):
That is Jason Hammer again tonight after a win last Thursday.
He likes Chargers minus three, so win by more than three.
Keenan Allen over five and a half, catches Justin Herbert
to throw a pick and then pacer action tonight. That
first three pointer of the game, Boy, that always gets
my adrenaline going early in a game. That's good money
man plus two ninety five ninety five for the green
(02:04:41):
light that has been Dick Matheren. I have no doubt
he will shoot the first three pointer. It's more of
if it'll go in. And then for Sunday, Jonathan Taylor
ten dollars to win eighty if you would like plus
eight hundred on three touchdowns or more.
Speaker 20 (02:04:56):
And listen, if we lose every bet this week, if
I go over three tonight, if we don't catch any
of our long shots, think of it this way.
Speaker 6 (02:05:03):
It could be worse.
Speaker 20 (02:05:04):
You could have to decide between going to federal prison
and ratting out the mob, like Chauncey Billups is gonna
have to do.
Speaker 5 (02:05:11):
Yeah, worst ways to spend a Thursday. You're saying, correct, correct, That.
Speaker 6 (02:05:15):
Is an accurate way to put it.
Speaker 11 (02:05:16):
Again.
Speaker 6 (02:05:17):
Degenderate's next Door a podcast twice a week. You can
hear them every afternoon over on sister station WIBC. He
is Jason Hammer Hammer, thank you for the Woodford, Thank
you guys.
Speaker 20 (02:05:26):
Let's win some Monday tonight, Let's win Chauncey Billups like
money tonight, Let's go bust.
Speaker 6 (02:05:33):
I still think that's a good one.
Speaker 5 (02:05:35):
I'm throwing a tomato at your brother.
Speaker 6 (02:05:36):
Oh my god. Yeah, I got showed a good hop
out of here. That is a great Jason Hammer exiting
our studio. All right, we'll close it out one final
time here on what has turned out to be quite
the busy Thursday here on the fan, well fitting on
a day like today and that I've got to place
my Pacers bets. What I have settled on, and the
bet was just placed, is for them to make the playoffs.
(02:05:57):
They are a notable underdog to me the playoffs, which
again I'm still surprised by, so to be one of
the top eight seeds. There you go, the bettest place
plus one fifty two. So a little bit of juice
on that there. From a Pacers side of it, Pacers
thunder tonight seven point thirty inside of game Bridge Field House.
(02:06:17):
The leading score for the Pacers tonight will be who.
Speaker 13 (02:06:21):
Bendnick Maverick over over Pascal Bendick, Like y'all gonna pay me.
I'm going to get thirty tonight and it'll be with
like twelve free throws because he always gets.
Speaker 6 (02:06:32):
Foult and he was wait about fifty the other night
in that press. Yeah, you know I'm curious just how
much they put on Andrew Nemhart's plate minutes played. You know,
if we get late in the game, do we see
Nemhart on shake kills with Alexander at all? I assume
it'll be ben Nick Mallin to start the game. But like,
when you get to those final few minutes, how much
will Rick Carlyle pick and choose his spots with them
(02:06:55):
hard or he's saying, hey, he's too damn valuable for us.
On the other end of the floor, I think.
Speaker 5 (02:07:01):
It's probably that. Man.
Speaker 13 (02:07:02):
You gotta have somebody who's available to run your offense
and fresh enough to do it at a high level.
Speaker 6 (02:07:09):
So again, we'll have your coverage beginning with Pat Boylan
that pregame show coming up at seven o'clock tonight. Just
remind everybody highly encourage from the Pacers get in your
seats early tonight. It's a seven thirty tip and get
in there early. Couple things first, they'll unveil that Eastern
Conference banner, but most importantly they'll honor the great Nancy Leonard.
There will be a moment of silence and then a
(02:07:30):
definite encouragement of a standing ovation to follow that so
it should be a fun night inside a Gambridge field House.
Here is the opener for the Pacers. Then they're on
the road. They're on the road for three back to
back this weekend, Memphis and Minnesota at Dallas coming up
on Wednesday, James as we shift gears for the Colts.
Practice number two coming up today, Josh Dollen's out of
(02:07:53):
a red jersey, Kenny Moore practicing. I assume those are
the two items that you'll be watching for.
Speaker 13 (02:07:58):
Yes and also Jaylen Jones is he a full participant
versus being limited yesterday? So a couple of housekeeping keeping
items there for sure.
Speaker 6 (02:08:06):
We didn't get a chance to get to that. Ady
Mitchell audio, I want to get to it tomorrow. You have,
you know, mentioned that your conversation with Ady you thought
was pretty enlightening and the new cycle this morning very
rarely does it derail us a bit here, but it did,
so we'll get to that coming up on tomorrow's show.
Speaker 14 (02:08:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:08:21):
I'll have a full story as well coming tomorrow up
on the Athletic website there. But just to recap everything
that's happened this morning, it sounds like we'll get some
more clarity here at the top of the hour, But
FBI investigation has led to the arrest of Terry Rogier,
longtime NBA guard currently with Miami Heat, and that I
(02:08:42):
guess is in reference to a game he played a
couple of years ago with the Charlotte Hornets. And then
a separate investigation has led to the arrest of Portland
Trailblazer's head coach Chauncey Billups for a poker game affiliated
some how, some way, shape or form with the Mafia.
(02:09:03):
Those are real headlines, just to clarify that with everybody here.
Have I missed anything else? Does anything else come out?
Speaker 5 (02:09:09):
Did you mention Damon Jones as well?
Speaker 6 (02:09:11):
Yeah? So Damon Jones is currently out of the NBA right,
but longtime player and former assistant as well. He has
been arrested. Is that right?
Speaker 11 (02:09:18):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (02:09:19):
So we'll certainly see affiliated with Chauncey or something separate.
Do we know anything?
Speaker 14 (02:09:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (02:09:23):
I guess that is what we'll find out here at
the top of the hour.
Speaker 10 (02:09:26):
And quite the timing. I just saw an ad on
my Twitter account. It's from DraftKings and it's his best
five to get three hundred and the face on it
is Lebron James. Probably not the best timing I would
say for that ad to bepulating.
Speaker 5 (02:09:39):
I feel like the whole sports universe would.
Speaker 6 (02:09:42):
Burn press conference upcoming at ten am to kind of
recap all of that Thursday night football. Tonight is Chargers
and Vikings and again Pacers on our airwaves coming up
seven thirty tonight. It is the opener, Pacers and thunder
inside of Game Bridgefield House. Enjoy that US three again tomorrow.
Thank you for listening to the morning show ninety three
five one seven five The
