Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning every one in the brand new studios in
downtown Indianapolis. James Boy, Kevin Bowen, Jeff Record, Mark Dyton.
We put him behind some glass. You can't see it
right now. All the cameras are going to be installed
in the next couple of weeks. They moved us into
this brand new studio today. It's our first broadcast. They
built all the stuff over yesterday, the missing pieces anyway,
so it could be a ride today. Anything that does happen,

(00:22):
Mark Dyton has saved us from whatever the catastrophe there
will be, correct, Mark Dyton, That's just how that's going
to go. Have you figured out how to use your
mic and put it on the area yet? No, he
is not yet. I can't hear him. No, we are
off and running. But man, do we have things to
talk about?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Now? I can hear you. Now you got there, you go.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
We're like the Colts quarterback situation. There's ten million buttons.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
I know how to do five of them. That's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
That's where we're at. Above the table in there, Mark,
that's what we're most worried about. Too many people in
there right now for that.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Caleb's in there with you too, So there you go. Yeah,
big day out of the Colts facilities yesterday. That's what
we're going to talk about most of the day Todayhlip
Rivers joins the practice squad. They have not yet made
him active. I believe they also elevated Brett Rippon to
the fifty three man roster yesterday. But I'll turn it
over to you, Kevin Bowen. What a whirlwind of the day.
I mean, could you We talked about all the time,

(01:14):
but it almost seems surreal for you to pull up
at West fifty six and go, yeah, I'm going in
and I'm going to talk to Philip Rivers about being
the starting quarterback again for the Indianapolis Colts, potentially on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
It was quite the scene, certainly a day I will
never forget in my you know, I guess journalism a career,
and covering forty four year old Philip Rivers at the podium.
I haven't seen Shane Styke and that fired up on
a Wednesday in quite a while. That is what I
was most struck by, was just I think the aura
of Philip Rivers is alive and well inside of Shane

(01:44):
stike In and I think he is all.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
In on it.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
James, I would say the thing I was most surprised
by yesterday was the fact that I walk away from
West fifty sixth Street. Riley Leonard was a full participant
in practice, and yet I still fully believe Philip Rivers
is starting quarterback on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
And I would not have guessed that going into the day.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I would have assumed Leonard was either not practicing or limited,
but he was full. And I think we're gonna watch
a movie on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I don't know if it'd been a good movie. I said,
a movie.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
You're so skeptical.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
You can you blame me. The guy has been away
from football for nearly five years. He's a grandfather, young
grandfather has a key referencing. But I felt the same way,
and that, to me cannot be understated. We probably can't
even overstate it to a degree, because in my opinion,
it was so clear that they believe this dude can

(02:44):
actually play. And I believe it was you or someone
else was like, Okay, if Riley is healthy to go,
is he your starter?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Well, we'll see.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Anytime you hear that phrase from a coach in any sport,
we'll see or you know, let's let's kind of play
this out, or we're evaluating everything to us.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
You the term they're making a change.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
So I would think that they're going to start Philip Rivers,
like you said Kevin on Sunday in Seattle, which is
crazy because what two weeks ago he was coaching his
son's high school football team.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
It's all fantastical, fantastical, It's crazy all the things that
are going on. I'm just curious, was what was it
like in the locker room the folks you talk. We
heard from Michael Pittman Junior yesterday in a lot of
things that he had to say. But there are still
twelve guys on this roster that played with Philip Rivers
when he was here last year. What's the vibe in
the locker room? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Unknown, Yeah, I think they love Phillip's juice. But I
mean they are human beings. I think they're just as
nervous as a forty four year old quarterback potentially going
out there as anybody else. I mean, you know, we
can get into this, and I say, in all seriousness,
Philip Rivers didn't look like a guy that all of
a sudden is gonna be running, you know, wind sprints

(04:02):
up and down the field for sixty minutes on Sunday.
Like I legitimately asked this question, how did Philip Rivers
feel waking up today? I mean, when is the last
time he is exerted the physical activity that was called
of him and practiced yesterday? James, he wore full pat
I mean the Colts were in pats yesterday. I was
surprised by that, Like they they changed up so much.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Of their script for Philip Rivers, so I I you
know again, I was kind.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Of struck by that as well, like, legitimately, how is
he going to feel a today? And then b what
if the Colts get into like a two minute situation
in the game on Sunday, Like how is he holding
up over the course of whatever eight.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Thirty seconds?

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I'm like that, yeah, but like again, are like these
are things that very well could be popping up on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
So it was.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
It was an odd day. I don't think there's any
other way to describe it. You know, there is good
news with the forst Buckner getting back to practice and
you know that aspect to it. But again I walk
away from yesterday surprised a little bit like I was
under the impression that Riley.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Leonard was too hurt to play.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
And in the NFL world, if you are a quarterback,
the starting quarterback in the football team, which again Riley
Leonard is the starting quarterback based off the death chart,
if you are the starting quarterback on the football team
and you practice Wednesday, let alone practice full, you are
the starting quarterback that Sunday one hundred times out of
one hundred, and yet my gut says it's Philip Rivers

(05:41):
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
I'm sure there's reason he's sticking around and putting on pads.
It'll be interesting to see what they do now. They
could always do if it becomes apparent after a quarter
quarter and a half James that this is not going
to work, then they just move on to Plan B.
And right now, if you say that Riley Leonard is
I mean, you know, is it Brett Rippon that comes
back in or at that point in time they bring

(06:04):
Riley Leonard back. And also, if you're Riley Leonard, you
didn't play horribly last week. But clearly the Colts have
stated if they start Daniel Jones, they're clearly going yeah, right,
Riley's not ready to be our quarterback? And who else
out there? For all the people who have been criticizing
this move, and I get it, but who else is
out there? Well, you already know, you already know the

(06:27):
guys that are out there cannot help you win.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
Right?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
So is Philip Rivers a better option than Riley Leonard?

Speaker 1 (06:31):
At least he's an unknown the rest of them. I
personally don't know where Riley's at in his development within
that offense. I don't see it every day like you
guys do. I don't know what his comfort level with
the offense is, what his comfort level with Shane is,
if Shane is comfortable with how he runs the offense,
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Like watching Riley Leonards Sunday in Jacksonville, I did not
walk away from that performance thinking you should call a
man that hasn't thrown a football in the NFL game
in five years. I never felt that. I didn't feel
that right. I mean, he wasn't that bad.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
I'm not saying, and you're saying, you know, build a
statue next to Peyton of him.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
But like I thought, Riley Leonard.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Did an okay job, and I was curious what he
would look like with a full week of practice. And again,
this knee injury does not seem to be anything that
is that impactful on a his practice schedule and be
him playing on Sunday. We see quarterbacks all the time,
this Wednesday practice, maybe even a Thursday practice, and still
playing that game on Sunday. But for Leonard right now,

(07:28):
maybe I had misread the room, But I read the
room of the energy that Philip Rivers brings is something
that Shane styke In is obsessed with and he feels like,
whether he wants to admit it or not, James, I
really feel like he've used this football team as reeling
right now.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
They've lost four or five. It's a sinking ship and
here comes somebody to save the Titanic, and he brings
juice and energy that can potentially do that.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
It's interesting you bring that up. It might have be
admitting your story, Kevin. But Philip Rivers is saying yesterday,
I'm not here to be a savior. We need to
play defense and run the ball.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Is what he said, Right, Steve didn't run the football, right, Yeah,
that's what he's said.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
I have to sometimes you have to clean Philip up.
You know what I'm saying, Well, actually you don't. He
never that's the joke, that was the point. But it's
going to be interesting. So they were forgotten for people
wondering he is wearing number seventeen with Daniel Jones not
on the active roster. Correct, Yes he is, So that'll
be number seventeen again. So at least you have you

(08:31):
have that consistency.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
I just hope he doesn't join him on ir Man.
It could get rough out there in Seattle.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Also, we have barely even spoken about Purdue last night,
a really nice bounce back game and an unbelievable game
again from Braden Smith. We'll be talking about that a
little bit later on today. That Mott is going to
join Hiss, the head coach of Butler basketball. That'll be
coming up at eight thirty today. So a lot of
college basketball to get to today. But you know, have
you been surprised, Kevin, the fact real quickly that that

(08:59):
Purdue has been early in the season a little inconsistent.
They've either had great games or struggle a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
I mean, I would really unless I'm missing a game.
Wasn't Iowa State really the only real bad game? I mean,
they went to Alabama and won.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
It wasn't a bad game, but it just I know
that mass I will say it was awful.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
But outside of that, I mean, they ran Texas tack
out of the gym and won at Alabama. So I
don't know if it's been an inconsistent start to the season.
You know, yesterday I thought that was a big time
second half of them. You know, the twenty to two
run right out of the gate, and you know, great
balance from them. You mentioned Braden so at both ends
of the floor. Hopefully his left hand is okay. It
looked like he was favoring that a little bit.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Throughout the game.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
But yeah, exactly what you would want from Purdue. Minnesota's terrible.
They're in your own building. Run him out of the gym.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Took a while, but they eventually got there first two.
And I was starting a couple of years for.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Purduing the Big Ten, which not something that would have
totally resonated with me, but I guess it makes sense
with the occasional December road Big ten loss.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
All right, coming up at a moment, we'll check things down,
We'll get you ready to go for a big day
for the Colts. Today. We'll see what happens in day two.
How does Philip Rivers feel after he slept off the
first day of long and vigorous activity yesterday? The Colts
man ice tubs and being gay? Right there you go, Ebsence, Baby,
it's all coming up next ninety three five one o
seven the Fan and one seven five the Fan. Good

(10:23):
morning everyone, walking into the Fan. Morning showed on with
Kevin bowen Man, James Boyd, Mark Dighton's got his own
little uh what do you want to call that? A
you like your own little special apartment back there.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yes, studio, but I have him pants on some of it, like.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
The kitchen or refrigerator, all kinds of stuff. I feel
like him being over in that space. He's just got
too much freedom on his hands.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Literally.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
It feels like his power meter just didn't went up,
didn't it.

Speaker 5 (10:47):
I know.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Uh, Here's what's going on in the world of sports.
Philip Rivers is indeed with the Indianapolis Colts. He's on
the practice squad right now. What do we expect to
see happen if if he doesn't fall apart in the
next two three days, Well.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
I would expect him to be elevated to the active
roster at some point this week and we all know
if that happens, he's gonna play. So that was my
biggest takeaway from yesterday. And as Kevin alluded to, that
was the most excited I've ever heard Shane Styken be.
And boy, if they are able to get into the
playoffs with Philip Rivers, he might, you know, I don't know.

(11:23):
We have to like rethink our uh our thoughts on
on Shane Stykeen and how excited he can be because.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
He's usually so boring. He was actually giddy, Kevin.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
He was giddy.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Again, that was the thing I was struck by the
most yesterday. It was just the pure energy level the
juice that Philip Rivers has brought at least to Shane
dyke And we'll see how much to the building and
we'll see how much the juice can be squeezed on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
But yeah, that's my my subject.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
And again I was surprised to see Riley Leonard a
full participatet in practice. I thought that was a part
of the Philip Rivers thing was you know, Ryle Leanard
isn't healthy enough to play in the game, and that
is not true. It is good to go, so, you know,
and Leus Philip Rivers tripped and falled a few times
in practice and wakes up today and is like, yeah,

(12:07):
I just can't do it.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
I expect him to start on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Kevin, what about the rest of the injury situation. You
mentioned that DeForest Buckner was practicing again. What about him?
What about Sauce Gardner? What about the offensive linemen that
are banged up right now?

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yes, on the good news front, the Forest Buckner was back.
First time he's practiced over a month. We'll see exactly
where he's at. You know, from a what does three
days of practice look like for him? Could he get
out there and play even a limited.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Role on Sunday?

Speaker 3 (12:31):
You know, typically guys that have been on injured reserve
for at least a month, usually it takes him a
couple of weeks. But Buckner would seem to be potentially
a unique case in that. No Sauce Gardner, no Braden Smith.
So I think we're looking at a rookie at right
tackle in Jalen Travis, and then at corner. We obviously
know Mooney Ward went on injured reserve. That happened, I
guess right, as our show ended yesterday, so to face

(12:53):
the top receiver in the NFL, you're back to Jalen
Jones and Makai Blackman as your outside corners.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Coming up on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
All right, that'll of course be Sunday afternoon for twenty
five kick. Now keep this in mind. On Sunday, we'll
have an Indiana Pacers game for you during the middle
of that, so you'll listen to some pre game with
us here at ninety three five one seven five to Fan,
but the entire broadcast will be in ninety seven point
one Hank FM. Coming up on Sunday. We'll remind you
that many times. Oh wow. Also, those headphones do work, Mark,

(13:21):
I'll tell you that. Last night college basketball, after Purdue
led only thirty five thirty two at a half, the
Boiler Rakers open the second half James a twenty one
nothing run. But here's the craziest part. That's already produced
third run of twenty or more points or longer this season.
We haven't even gotten to January first yet.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Yeah, I know, they got beat down by Iowa States
and the cyclone start out the Tyres Halliburton's alma mater,
but they're still a very good team. And unlike in
college football where we freak out every week about oh
my gosh, you lost and your season's over long season,
in basketball, great bounce back win for them.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah that was in Braden Smith Kevin. We got to
mention fifteen points, twelve assists, six rebounds, five steals. He
even had two block shots. That's one of the great
stat stuff.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
On the man, he could do a lot of great things,
but he's blocking side.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
He's on one.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Let's go, so they get the win there. Of course, Kevin.
Indiana will play again this weekend against Kentucky down in
Lexington Rupp Arena.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yeah, opposite the Heisman trophy ceremony.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
So who would have ever thought Indiana fans would have
to make a decision on IU Kentucky's basketball game.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
You just take your phone with you, don't you? You
watch watch the Heisman trouve May on the phone? Pip?

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Is Pip still a thing? Picture and picture? They still
do that?

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Do you still have it on yours?

Speaker 2 (14:39):
I used to love Pip back in the day. I
have no idea what you're talking about. Picture and picture.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Man, you get a TV and you'd be watching one picture.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Like Thursday Night football on tonight and then bottom right
corner you have whateverat Okay.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
They called it picture and picture se.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
My final game or something like that. I call it old.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Yeah. Now now you turn on YouTube, you get the
Sunday package with YouTube.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
So I'm a multiview person.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Get with the Times people.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
All right.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
In one of the stranger stories that we have seen
in quite some time, Sharon Moore was in custody last
night as a suspect in an alleged assault just ours
James after getting the boot at Michigan for having what
the school was calling, very frankly in their little statement,
an inappropriate relationship with the staff member. They have fired

(15:26):
him with cause, and then he goes into custody a
suspect in an alleged assault.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Yeah, I'm sure a lot more will come out about that.
It sounds like it's a very frightening situation. So I
don't want to make light of it, and we'll see
how it plays out. But suddenly, on the football part
of it, one of the biggest jobs in college football
is open.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Man oh Man. But hoping this late too, remember just
all the drama we've gone through, the pass cuping couple
of coaches exactly. It'll be interesting to see what happens NBA.
Last night, they continued play in the Western Conference for
the NBA Cup. The Oklahoma City Thunder guy one thirty
eight eighty nine winners last night over the Suns. I
think that's the worst beatdown the Suns I've ever had

(16:06):
in franchise history. Twenty four and one KB for the
Oklahoma City Thunder and they're averaging a win by seventeen
points a game.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
I like this final four for the NBA Cup.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
You know you got Thunder, Spurs, Magic and Nicks here,
So I mean you look at it, teams that can
be thought could be final sort of contenders, young talent,
up and coming teams.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
It's a really nice little final four here for the
NBA Cup.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
And this is the Wimby lists Spurs, So shout out
to the rest of that squad.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Yeah, Spurs one nineteen last night. Boy, they got talent
all over the place. And we always talk about Wimby,
but the Castle kid from Yukon, man, he's he's bawling
out this last year year and a half.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
Oh absolutely, it's been fun to We need some talent
like that to come on over to the Pacers.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
So again we have.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Thirty points and ten boards.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
Last I'm like, you know, I'm looking at that that
lottery you know lists, Like, hey, Payce, I know your
plan well as of late, but I wouldn't mind the
top five pick.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
We kind of buried it because of all the things
going on with Philip Rivers the other day. But do
you hear anything more if you heard anything from your
athletic brethren on how things might be going as there
was a sham's report that the Pacers could be looking
to trade for a center.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Yeah, I'll be honest, Jeff, I will love to dive
into those things at some point, but my head has
been deep in the River's archives, and honestly, I'm like
blowing a dust off of his right arm for him
getting them ready for Sunday.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
The memes were non stop yesterday.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Hey, I'm here for it at this point.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
We can get into it more throughout the show, but
I just think we are living very comical lives right now.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
All right, Well, we're going to continue those comical lives
coming up at a moment. The text line is up
and running here two three, niney, ten, seventy The phone
lines are up and running two three, nine, ten seventy.
I want to get your thoughts. We didn't get a
lot of folks on the air yesterday because of all
the new stuff with Philip Rivers. But honestly, how are
Colts fans feeling about this? Right now?

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Let's talk to him.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Well, I want to hear it, and we'll find out
moment seventy hits The Fan Morning Show along with Kevin
Pollen and James Boyd. I'm jeff Rickard Mark dyke in smoothest,
just seamlessly and smoothly running things in a brand new
environment over there. Good for you. We'll see all right,
we'll continue.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
To moute.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Previously on The Fan Morning Show.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Might see a negative two degrees on Saturday. Yeah, it's
it's insane. I mean.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Only I didn't say fudge.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
I said the word, the big one, the queen mother
of dirty words, the dash dash dash word.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
Wahn't the dumb button on that one will right right
to the I didn't say that.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Was close enough. You know you're gonna get in trouble.
Kevin's not gonna get in trouble. Here we go, I'll
get in trouble.

Speaker 7 (19:00):
The dumb button has been hit.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
I think I was the first time I've had in
dump Kevin. I'm like some others we've discussed today, I
definitely pulled out.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
There part of what happened yesterday. Kevin was on one
yesterday he was rolling, I'm going, who got my mouth
washed off with soap? When it was all said and
done though, let's how that worked? So good morning along with.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Jameisk Yeah, I'm back and got that switch going.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Kevin Bowen, James Boy, jeff Ricord. Also, how about I
also want to give a shout out to Spencer Thompson
from Thompson Furniture and Mattress. They sponsored a lot of
our butler stuff, including the Thad Mada appearance. Every week
they Spencer Thompson sent each and every one of us
a great yetty engraved with our names and our favorite teams.

(19:46):
So I think, Kevin, you got one from Notre Dame right.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Yeah, put it in the dishwasher last night, so I
cannot wait to use it. So shot shot Spencer text yesterday.
I thank you very very much to him. Really cool,
really cool that he'll be thrilled when I tell her
I don't want to drink the cup that has my
family on it anymore. I want to drink the one
that has Notre Dame on it. And you sound like me.
Mind you, I don't have the family. Noticed you didn't

(20:08):
mention Notre Dame on the checkdown. There, go ahead about
their win over Idaho.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Go ahead.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
You seem to do that quite often when it comes
to the Irish.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Jeff, you want to I would never get you going
with Notre Dame. I know how that is. But yesterday
they they had the Idaho Vandals. Last night, Kevin, how
to go Idaho?

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Very good mid major team life without Marcus Burton. A
bit of a struggle for the first thirty minutes, but
Notre Dame pulled away and impress a fashion So good
work for Michael Shusbury company.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
There we go. Yeah, it's funny. I was popping in
and out of the Purdue game last night and it
was fairly tight in the first half. But then man
watched maybe the first six minutes of that second half,
and it was Katie bar the door, twenty one nothing
run to start. Think, So that's how you went at home,
by the way.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
That's how you get that belt put on you.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Yeah, well, and Boody Colt's going to be back at
practice a little bit later on today. We'll see how
Philip Rivers bounces back from a very busy day yesterday.
And we talked a lot if you're just joining us
this morning, we've talked a lot already about you know,
how Shane Stikeen just seems in like on cloud nine
right now, Kevin like he is floating with with Philip
Rivers coming to town.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Yes, that is a great way to put it.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
I have not seen Shane Syken that energized in quite
a while. And you know, if you want to get
a little bit more into maybe okay, where are the
Colts at having lost four of five? They need an
injection of life now again. You know, Sunday at four
twenty five will be the big decider and exactly how
much the injection of life has occurred. But for now,

(21:38):
Philip Rivers undoubtedly he brings energy, he brings certainly he's
such a unique football player period. You know, you hear
Jack Doyle talk about him yesterday and we had him on.
You know, I think it's a very easy gravitational pull,
even during the COVID year that Jack experience with Philip
Rivers that guys you.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Know, might feel. But again, how long is all of
that going to last?

Speaker 3 (22:01):
I think that's kind of where I sit on this
Thursday morning, and I'll reiterate what I said earlier. I
expect him to start unless things just look awful in practice,
unless he woke up and felt like a forty four
year old that had worked out in a different manner
for the first time in five years, I expect him
to be the guy on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
It's interesting when you hear him talk all day yesterday,
James is he's answering questions and talking about why he
wanted to come back and why you wanted to be
a part of this franchise and all those kinds of things.
As a reporter, you're sitting in that room, and this
is kind of unprecedented. Right So, now, what.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
It truly is, and the way I look at it, Jeff,
and the way I can perhaps explain it best is
the fact that when we were talking to Zire Franklin,
he said talking to Philip is like talking to shame,
and that right there really summed it up for me,
because we can go through all of the other possibilities

(22:59):
at quarterback and also knew with Newsworthy shot out to
my guy, Parker Gabriel, who is a Denver Broncos reporter
for the Denver Post.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
He reported, and actually not even really a report. He
went and talked to.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
Sam because you remember we kept asking why he wasn't chosen.
Sam turned him down, so they reached out, and it
sounds like from his reporting Parker Gabriel again that the
Colts wanted to bring in Sam and Philip Rivers. So
this is me speculating at this point, perhaps it wasn't
as enticing for Sam to be like, all right, why

(23:33):
would I leave the situation I'm in where I'm a
backup to go somewhere else to be the backup? Because
he's not a dumb guy. He probably knows okay, I
know the offense, but not as well as that dude.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
So we will see how it all shakes out.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
But again, it feels like they're talking to each other
kind of like in the mirror, and one guy is
just physically what we think, able to play the game
where Shame will be coaching the game.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Mark are we able to cueue up any audio clips?
I don't know how we are from.

Speaker 7 (23:59):
A technological so sure, we're just throwing stuff against the
wall that we should be Okay, though I figure it out.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
Phil, He's so happy today.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
I'm a little clip.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Number four Mark Phillip Rivers on why he wants to
come back to playing at the age of forty four.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Trying to get emotional.

Speaker 8 (24:12):
Actually, you asking that as simple as as can be
as a coach that I love and an organization that
I really enjoyed being with. You know, mister ersay believing
in me in that year in twenty twenty when it
didn't go so good in twenty nineteen. And shoot, the
teammates that I was were able to play with, Shoot,

(24:34):
fourteen of them are still here. Training rooms the same,
pr guys are the same equipment rooms the same and
they wanted me, And you know, I try to keep
it as simple as that. And you know, a game
game I love to play, a game that I thought
it was was I was done playing. Certainly I wasn't

(24:55):
really hanging on any hope of playing again. I kind
of thought that ship that sailed, but something about it
excited me. And Uh, it's kind of one of those deals.
The door opens and you can either walk through it
and find out if you can do it or or
run from it. And I know, I know that there's
there's risk involved obviously of what may or may may

(25:18):
not happen, but the only way to find out is
going for it. And uh, I just felt almost like
it was a gift, another opportunity to play and cut
it loose with your guys in the game you love
to play and the dream that you got to live,
you get you may get some bonus time. So I
really kept it as kept it as simple as that
in my mind. And uh and here I stand.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
Yeah, I find it interesting James that Phillips said yesterday
he was watching the Colts game on Sunday Live when
Daniel Jones went down and he did think to himself,
will Sheanstak can call me? And sure enough, a few
hours later, Shanton Stakin dials them up and the rest
is history here. And so you know, one of my

(25:59):
big takeaways from yesterday is this has a lot less
to do with the health and availability of Riley Leonard
than I previously thought. Absolutely, to me, I agree with you,
is much more about Shane Stiken thinking that too football
obsessed individuals, given the state of the quarterback room right now,

(26:20):
can somehow, some way, Chess match their way into staying
out of bad plays, making the right pre snap checks.
This that obviously you have to rely on Jonathan Taylor
like no other. Your defense can't play anywhere near like
it did last week. And you pray for rain and
that the wet football luck bounces your way in Seattle

(26:40):
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Well, it's gonna be fascinating to watch. And obviously it's
a lottery ticket, James, you hope that it pays off
out of the well Willie Wonker right now, Well, you're
hopeful that you get that golden ticket because you clearly,
to your point, there's some juice. There's obviously the community,
the connection between the coach and the quarterback and all
that stuff. But when you look at the other options

(27:02):
that were available to you, you probably say to yourself, look,
we've lost four out of five. Anyway, this isn't looking good.
Maybe we get to Forest back. Maybe at some point
you get Sauce Gardner back. But to your point yesterday, Kevin,
if you just win two of four and so, if
you can bring Philip Rivers in for a couple of weeks,
two months, Max, let's take it all the way to
the very end for the complete Disney story. It is

(27:25):
a lottery ticket. It doesn't work out, then you just
stop playing him after the first half, right.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
First half, first half benching Philip rivers for uncle Phil. Nah, nah,
you can't come back for a half. You gotta put
a whole thing out Riley Leonard. If they try to
put you in there after it goes terrible in the
first half, you tell him I'm not getting killed in Seattle.
You get me ready for Monday night football. But jokes aside, Jeff.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
How long is it? How big is the hook? Though?

Speaker 4 (27:48):
That is a question, that's a very big question. A
lot of it I just don't know yet because of
the physical nature of the game. And he let that
out perfectly yesterday and eloquently and repeatedly.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
I know I haven't played football. I know I can still.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
Sling it, I can still throw it, but I haven't
played and I don't know until I get out there.
So part of it, to me is admirable to just
try to go out there and see if you can
still do the thing that you once did. But at
the same time, I don't think it'll be enough juice
to offset you know, five years of not playing the game.

(28:26):
So one of the funnier comments from the press conference
yesterday besides me asking if Rivers is he is older
than shane'sych and He's like, yeah, he's been older than
me in my entire life, James, You're dumb. So other
than that, I thought one of the funnier moments when
Kevin asked him.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Kevin asked, Shane.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
I need to read the transcript because this this is hilarious.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
We should have mark pulled this Mark if you can.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Maybe save for the eight o'clock hour of Marcus.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
I know you got a lot to deal with in
this new studio today, but I just read it aloud.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
This is hilarious.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Transcript might be funny.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
So we're all peppering same with questions and.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Questions.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
Yes, Kevin jumpsaying, is there any part of you that
says we've lost four or five we need juice? He
is juice and they have it written out he is
juice And I could not stop laughing at that.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
And the response was he he does give us juice.
So there you have it. Juice sub cults.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Yeah, I think it's real, Like I think that is
a big part in this feeling in the locker room
whip Rivers was. I don't know, I'm trying to think
of like a semi accomplished like all jokes aside if
he was Matt Ryan, Like okay, let's act like Matt
Ryan didn't put on a cold uniform. Let's act like
Matt Ryan retired as a Falcon when he when Rivers

(29:47):
did five years ago. We don't talk about Matt Ryan
in the manner we talk about Philip Rivers, right, Philip
Rivers has always been this trash talking, no cussing, unique individual,
high energy football Like Matt Ryan is his own you know, personality,
but he's not Philip Rivers. And I think, guys, and again,

(30:07):
just listen to Jack Gold describe him when he joined
us yesterday. When guys are teammates are around Philip Rivers,
there's just like this unique gravitational pull that he has. Now,
as I've said all morning long, you know how much
can that last once the ball is kicked off at
four twenty five. But for the time being, he does

(30:28):
insert some injection of life into your building.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
But I'll be totally honest with you.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Guys, and I don't know if this is politically correct
for me to say it or not. When Phil Rivers
walked in that room yesterday, I thought he was Tim
Allen to save Christmas.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
I love that. Tell us more?

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Am I not the only one.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Explain to folks Kevin that didn't get to see a.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Few weeks back? Hopefully Matti isn't less and she's probably
driving kids of school at this point. But uh, you know,
had a hell.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
Of a drive through some snow to get back in
time for the Colts game from Thanksgiving. You know it
was that brutal Saturday snow and you know I got
back to Indian thoughts to myself, I deserve a full pizza.
I deserve some Donato's pizza, And sure enough I decided
to eat a full medium Denado's pizza. I might have
had a couple of breadsticks, and boy, James, boyd, I

(31:24):
couldn't get off that couch for three hours, and I
thought to myself, you.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Can't be eating like your boy. Well I can't say
that any more. I'm a thirty year old man and
my diet.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
Listening to Philip Rivers answered the question about how much
he currently weighs, it got me thinking back to the
Donatal's pizza I had a few weeks back.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Wow. So here's my question about the Didn't.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
No one else think that? Did no one else think
that Philip Rivers looked out of shape and.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
He was in the best shape he's ever been in?

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Right, No, he didn't say that, but somebody said that
Philip was very honest.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Philip was like, yeah, which I.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Weigh a few pounds more than I did Buffalo, And
he countered with one of the great comments, and Mark,
you actually had that clip.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
This is Philip Rivers yesterday on his weight, not.

Speaker 8 (32:07):
What it was when I walked off the film Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
I can tell you that.

Speaker 9 (32:11):
But but then I'll follow that up with I ain't
never ran away from anybody anyway. So so I'm they
you know, people say, well, they're gonna know you're gonna
be right there, and it's like, well, they do that
for sixteen seventeen years.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
So now he's not wrong about any of that. But
at the same time, I do say.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
This in all seriousness, like where is he at from
a cardio standpoint? I'm not saying Philip Rivers is tucking
and running it RPO style, but like the stamina on
the eighth play of a drive.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
I brought it up earlier. What about a two minute.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
Situation at the end of the first half. I mean,
this is a dude that if we're playing the guests
in the weight game, you're grouping him in with tight
ends pretty quickly in terms of how much he's weighing
right now, if not some defensive ends on this football team.
So I asked, and I don't know, maybe.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
It's unfair of me to say that, but I mean,
we're talking about NFL football players here. That is a
legitimate question I have for Sunday.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
I get some of the text and the talkback JT. Sorry,
we'll get you if you want to call back there.
We're going on some stuff in there. But justin Techan says,
it's not shocking that this franchise continuously lets Ballard use
it as his own personal circus. Shane can have all
the confidence, but he's been in he hasn't been right
in one decision he's ever made with the franchise. That
might be a little bit harsh there, but there are

(33:29):
a lot of people that are justifiably so down on
christ And yet every time I hear people in the
national media talking about the Colts they say, other than
the quarterback, he's put together a pretty good team. Now
we can all parse that out, and I think all
three of us in here kind of shrug our shoulders
at that one. But it's but that's the NFL. You
got to find a quarterback. You're not gonna win in

(33:51):
this league.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Yeah, I guess the argument is you've had the rookie
who was just in a National championship game last year,
and it's a lot different playing the pros. He's been
a part of your program for a year now and
he's been there every day. You know, or you should
know what he's capable of, and maybe that's why you
do go out and get Philip Rivers. So to me,

(34:15):
it comes down to not the head and next stuff.
The dude knows the game, but just physically it's borderline
and it probably is unprecedented. I know people have referenced
oh other teams that brought guys that are retirement and
even a few of them with this time difference, But
I would like to go back and see how many
of them have been plugged into this situation where you're

(34:40):
eight and five and you still have a chance to
get into the dance and you're relying on a forty
four year old to do it, So that to me is.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
It is quite the endeavor to put it mildly and.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Look at the end of the day too. This is
going back to something Kevin said during check down a
minute ago. There's a lot of questions, a lot of
issues on defense right now, especially with some of the injuries. Well,
we're all going to focus on this quarterback thing all
week long, and I get it, but there's still there's
a reason that they'd lost four out of five and
wasn't all just offensive court.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah, I think that's a great point.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
And you know, you look at the run game too,
I mean, and losing four or five basically Jonathan Taylor's
ineffectiveness in those four losses has been a constant.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
And then of course the defensive effort.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
You saw and now you know, maybe to Forest Buckner's
back on Sunday, but you're defending I would say, one
of the better whiteouts period in the NFL, and I
think one of the better wide receiver trios with the
trade for Rashid Shaheed in Seattle, and you're doing it
without an all likelihood Sauce Gardner. And then of course
Mooney Ward now on injured reserve, and we should mention
as far as Philip Rivers and pass protection all that.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
You know, you're looking at the rare offensive line change.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
In all likelihood as a rookie in Braiden or in
Jalen Travis for Braden Smith potentially coming up on Sunday here,
So that is another element.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
But boy, I just I keep on coming back to
Riley Leonard. James and Ryle.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Leonard said all the right things yesterday, but boy, his
tone it just felt like, Damn, I can't believe they
brought in Philip Rivers to take my spot. And when
I say take my spot, I don't want to act like.
You know, Riley Lennard has earned this like unquestionable. You know,

(36:29):
no one can doubt him.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
As a player.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
But given how he played on Sunday, given him practicing
full yesterday, I just would have figured he would start
again on Sunday. And then if you would have told
me the alternative option was a dude that hasn't played
football in five years.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
If I'm Riley Leonard, I'm like, damn, that's.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
How they think about me, because that's a word of
bating right now, who is the better option for Sunday
in Seattle. Riley Leonard, who appears to be a lot
closer to full health than was made out to believe
earlier in the week.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Or forty four year old Philip Rivers right, or my
or your ex. You brought back the old chick. She
ain't supposed to be here. I'm supposed to be able
to enjoy my new relationship and you bringing her back.
So I do think chux aside he has every right
to feel that way, and honestly, if he didn't feel slighted,
I would question his competitive nature because you got to

(37:29):
be thinking, I'm twenty three, even with my knees a
and one hundred percent, I can still give you a
better chance than the guy who, granted has been around
the game, hasn't played the game. So I get that,
and I think that he more or less and perhaps
will plays audio throughout the show today or even tomorrow
as we get closer to the game. But one of
the closes that set out to me Kevin and I

(37:52):
actually use it for a story because I was like, oh,
this is him saying it, playing and clean for all
of us to really read it and digest it. He said,
it's as crazy to me as it is to anybody.
But yeah, it's cool.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
Those were his words. Yeah, his first word he said
yesterday and a scrum was it's weird, yes, and I'm not.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
This is awesome, right, this is And again for those
on from precedented, him and Philip Rivers are very close.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Yes, I mean they lived near each other. Philip Rivers
helped train him in the off season to get ready
for the draft. So I did see that text change
between those two.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
I appreciated Riley for that candor because it is odd.
Like again, I thought yesterday Philip Rivers was going to
start on Sunday, but I figured Riley Leonard was really
hurt to the point where either he wouldn't practice or
was really limited. And Riley is like, yeah, I should
have no limitations of practice today. And he was full,
full on the injury report.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
If you're full on a Wednesday injury report, you play
literally ninety nine point nine times out of one hundred
in an NFL game.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
We saw a little bit of video Philip Rivers throwing yesterday.
What did you guys see there?

Speaker 2 (39:03):
I think it looked fine.

Speaker 4 (39:04):
You know what's crazy to me? I maybe I'm just
not well versed in arm speed and talent. But the
people who when we post the clips, Kevin, I'm sure
you've gone through the same sort of thing in your
mentions and emails and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Who gloss over or not gloss over?

Speaker 4 (39:22):
But like live and die with every little thing in
these videos, I just don't know what we're really looking at.
I'm like, Okay, did he have enough zip? Maybe did
he not? I don't know, did he miss this guy
he's late? Like, I'm not looking at it through the
lens of Shane Stikeen or Chris Ballard. And I kind
of think of, Okay, if they worked him out Monday.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
With some practice receivers and I leave.

Speaker 4 (39:43):
Josh down Is actually on his podcast that a few
of the receivers that he looked fine. Then who am
I to really looking at, you know, fifteen minutes of
practice and say whether he has it or not.

Speaker 2 (39:52):
I got to see Sunday. Yeah, I think coleman Owen
on the practice squad, and I believe Eli Pancole the
Penalton Heightsky was a part of who he threw to
on Monday, who's currently on the Colts practice squad I've
never thought like Rivers has been this like big time
velocity dude, Like you know, you know.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
One was the guy that always got credit for throwing
guys open.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
Yeah, I was gonna say he throws with anticipation, and
you know, I think that's the point, the point he
has the pinpoint nature to him. But the general velocity
question slash continuing to throw at anticipation that is probably
right up there with just general movement as my biggest
question for for Sunday, because you know, these Seattle Seahawks defenders,

(40:38):
we have yet to see him throw with a defender
out there. I mean, all the throws we saw yesterday
were stationary. You know, Yes, he's throwing to Pittman and
Downs and all those guys, but it's not like they're
being guarded in front of us when we're out there.
So that would be the question that you have of Okay,
windows are going to look a whole lot different in
forty eight degree weather and spitting rain or whatever Seattle
is going to be come Sunday four o'clock.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
Yeah, and again I go back to what's the speed
of the game going to be like for him? Yes,
he played in the NFL for seventeen years. He understands
NFL speed. It's one thing to have lived it. But
it's five years later now, and oh yeah, those guys
are that quick. And that pass that I used to
throw in that spot, oh yeah, that I forgot. How
quick that guy can close on that right? I don't know,
is it all still there? Is it all still muscle

(41:22):
memory or does your body have a ramping up period
just to catch up with the speed again.

Speaker 4 (41:26):
I was listening to a lot of people weigh in
on this yesterday, one of them being Kurt Warner, who
joined our shower at the Athletic Scoop City. He was
saying that when he still trains a bunch of high
school athletes, I believe he actually does high school coaching
as well. And he mentioned that a few years ago,
maybe back in twenty twenty, or maybe I'm misremembering like

(41:47):
the actual timeline, but years ago, the Cardinals quarterback room
kind of got decimated and he was thinking, is there
a chance for me to come back and play?

Speaker 2 (41:55):
I can go out here and get ready.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
But he was like, YA can still outthrow all these
people when it comes to just drills. I can still
do that at a very high level. That's like riding
a blake. But he was like, your your mental clock,
your presence of the pocket, things of that nature, you
just can't quantify until you get out there. And that
is the risk that Philipps is taking.

Speaker 6 (42:14):
Well.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
In the moment of play breaks down on Sunday year.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
Aft, does he go to Peyton Manninggan just drop right?

Speaker 2 (42:21):
Oh, yes, absolutely absolutely he has to.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
Now you can look at that one of two ways. Okay,
he'll stay out of bad place, he'll just go down
drives will end in punts. Or also you can look
at it and say, well, that means the Colts have
to be absolutely perfect in everything else pre snap. As
soon as the play is snapped, like and what have
you go back to? Well, the run game is definitely
struggled here as a wait, but if you look at

(42:44):
Riley Leonard on Sunday, that first third down he converts,
that is Riley Leonard making a play. It's him get
out of the pocket, it's him extending, it's him finding
out at Pierce.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
Now again, maybe Rivers will say, hey.

Speaker 3 (42:55):
Pre snap, I know Seattle's playing this cloud coverage, and
I know that means boom and steps and that ball's
got to come out and it's got to go to
Tyler Warren.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
That's the other thing I thought of yesterday.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
I thought, boy, Tyler Warren's got to love this, and
Alec Pearce has got to think, damn, there goes my
chance of getting deep balls.

Speaker 1 (43:12):
I also wonder about the deep balls. That's the big question. Yeah,
but you bring that last name up. One of the
other things I would think would be attracted to Shane
in this particular offense and all the communication he's had
with Philip Rivers. Philip Rivers demonstrated he knows what to
do with a really good tight end in the course
of his career, didn't.

Speaker 4 (43:29):
He Yeah, Tyler Warren was saying, Hey, he's one of
the best of the best. Excited to play with him.
Well excited as Tyler Warren ever appears to be. I
don't think he gets excited about anything. I want to
see him win in the Super Bowl, just so I
see if his pulse raises at all.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
Yeah, because I mean, for all those years, Kevin Antellio
Gates was Philip Rivers' biggest weapon, the excuse to feel
at time. So a lot going on and the Colts
will get their first look at life without Daniel Jones
for a full game, and whether that is going to
be Philip Rivers starting at quarterback or is it Riley Leonard.
We'll find out. We got a lot of other input

(44:03):
to get to as well. Dad Moda coming your way,
the head coach with the Butler Bulldogs. At eight thirty,
It's the Fan Morning Show live from the brand new
Downtown Studios uh just off Meridian, Saint Jose. It's ninety
three five and one of seven to five of the
fan James Boyd grooving at Bruce Springsteen, the Boss. How
about you?

Speaker 4 (44:20):
I got so much room over here, I can I
can really break it down now, y'all hold this new studio,
y'all ain't ready.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
I know the studio would have been good for COVID
because we're that far apart from one another.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
That is, let's not bring back those times.

Speaker 1 (44:31):
Hey, Philip Rivers was saying for the first time yesterday,
it was nice to see you guys in person.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
Right, good segue there.

Speaker 3 (44:37):
Althos with It's the most sports media thing James ever done.
Dancing and Bruce Springsteen.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
Every old sports media person can be like, yeah, good,
do you think that comes on Spotify randomly in is
in his apartment.

Speaker 1 (44:49):
He just starts grooving.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
Look, I told you just before. I guess Mike Chappell
up and damn.

Speaker 4 (44:53):
I think there are certain songs no matter what age, demographic, race, whatever,
you got a groove to it, that's one of them.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
Well, that's always good stuff. We're in the brand new
studios this morning. A lot to talk about. Big Perdue
win last night as they bounced back from the Iowa
State game, and also big win for Notre Dame Kevin.
I don't want to leave I don't want to leave
the Irish out winning at home. What eighty sixty five
I think it was. You can leave them out Idaho,
the vandals.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
That's the cover of the spread right there.

Speaker 3 (45:19):
James Adam, do you think the first call was Sam
Ellinger or Philip Rivers?

Speaker 2 (45:25):
Well, that's a good question.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
I need to ask that question to some other people
behind the scenes, but I think the first call had
to be Sam because to me, that just makes it.
It's just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
I don't know, man.

Speaker 3 (45:40):
Maybe reporting from Parker Gabriel of the Denver Posts mentioned
that they were planning to bring Sam Ellinger in along
with Philip rid Rice.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
But again, who would have been the first who would
have been the star like this? It should have been sam.

Speaker 3 (45:57):
My thought is this And I know I said it
yesterday and I say it again today. Philip Rivers ain't
leaving a family of ten and getting on a plane
to hold the Microsoft service on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (46:07):
I just maybe it's his entry ramp into coaching in
the NFL.

Speaker 2 (46:10):
I know everybody needs a smoke breaker.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
I know everybody needs a smoke breaker on holiday season,
but that's not the vibe I got all by the way,
Anthony Richardson at practice yesterday doing his which we've seen
Anthony do before, but we haven't seen him do it
at least unless I've missed it in the last couple
of months.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
You know, he's mimicking kind of quarterback dropbacks. Looked like
he was wearing like some my boy was out there
like Horace Grint.

Speaker 3 (46:31):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was gonna say, you know, Jalen
Smith vibes a little bit.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
There's his sticks pasterer wise, So he looked at me
in good spirits.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
And you know, again I don't expect to return emminently
by any means, but still we'll note that on the
Anthony Richardson front.

Speaker 1 (46:50):
I two through ninety ten seventy, your chance to tell
us where you're thinking about Philip Rivers and the Colts
and is this just the the ultimate white flag. A
lot of people are saying that they're embarrassed. A lot
of people like, hey, lottery ticket. Why not? As you say,
Kevin brings a little juice. We'll see if that translates
to anything. Let's go to the phone lines though, two three,
nine ten seventy. Right now we will bring in no
peace drop off. Chris is gone, Chris call back and JT.

(47:11):
We're getting things worked out today, but we will. The
phones are up and run and we test them before
the show, so we should be good to go here
in the new studio.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Have a lot of nine hundred numbers?

Speaker 1 (47:20):
Is that what it was? A lot of nine hundred numbers?
Today started off right?

Speaker 2 (47:24):
Mark had too sweet relief?

Speaker 1 (47:28):
Do they have a nine hundred number for call a quarterback?
That's the question. But it's every time you think, I mean,
it's it's an oakless shake, Kevin, but it truly is
every time you think you've seen everything, something else comes along.
And I also have heard from all kinds of people
on the national media. People, whatever happens James, people can't

(47:51):
wait to see what's going to transpire on Sunday, whether
he starts or doesn't start, or plays the whole game
or gets hurt or whatever. People is going to be
a big rating on that game.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (48:02):
Well, let's go to the phone lines here and see
if one of these people wants to weigh in.

Speaker 2 (48:07):
We have Chris on the line.

Speaker 1 (48:08):
Chris is back, Good morning, Chris.

Speaker 10 (48:10):
Hey, I'm sorry about that, gentleman.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
I had to dodge a four f one.

Speaker 10 (48:14):
Fifty out here on over sixty five people are sliding
all over this thing on the north side here.

Speaker 2 (48:20):
Oh oh, sounds like a Lane Kiffin situation.

Speaker 1 (48:25):
All right, what's up the quarterback drive?

Speaker 11 (48:29):
Right?

Speaker 5 (48:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (48:30):
You know I was, I was thinking about this. I mean,
we've got a couple of options that we we could
have had here. I don't know if you've heard the
hot take that Cam Newton was willing to drop everything
that he's doing and come play for us. That's out there.
You know, you're looking at bringing back Ellinger, and you know,

(48:50):
we we decided to go with Phillips here, and I
understand why we did it. I think one of the
things that people aren't talking about too is, you know,
if we if we do throw Riley Leonard out there
and he ends up getting hurt, then what are we
looking at.

Speaker 12 (49:05):
Tyler Warren as our quarterback?

Speaker 13 (49:06):
Now?

Speaker 10 (49:07):
I mean that was the plan, right, I mean, if
something were to happen in that game and for whatever
reason Leonard went down, I think Tyler Warren was slotted
as our backup quarterback. You're damned that you do, and
you're damned that you don't, I feel in this situation, So.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
Chris second for the call. Yeah, I mean the cults
are desperate. I think you know.

Speaker 3 (49:29):
To me, that's where I disagree on the Jeff Saturday front.
For those that want to compare the two, I mean
the culture in a dire quarterback situation. We've read off
some of the names on Monday, you know, when we
thought Riley Leonard was legitimately hurt, which again does not
appear to be a case. Basically, we're debating should the
Colts start Philip Rivers or Brett Rippon. That was the debate,

(49:51):
and the only reason people know who Brett Rippon is
is because his last names are Ripping.

Speaker 2 (49:55):
There's Brett Boyd. They'd be like, wait, what hold on now,
the boy Nay, I'm putting some respect on.

Speaker 3 (50:01):
His last name from Bill's all time leading passer back
in the You know.

Speaker 2 (50:05):
Hey, I'm on I'm on the wall at my high school.
I'm a celebrity two thousands there. So I think that
is where you're getting. I agree with you, though.

Speaker 1 (50:15):
All right, let's go back to the phone lines. Aaron
is up next in ninety three five one seven five
the Fan.

Speaker 14 (50:19):
Good morning, Aaron, Hey, good morning brother.

Speaker 1 (50:21):
Are you going good man? What's happening?

Speaker 13 (50:24):
Hey?

Speaker 14 (50:24):
Man, I just want to weigh in on it.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Man.

Speaker 14 (50:26):
First of all, I want to say you have been funny.
It is to hear all the comments. I think this
is just really kind of an emergency to say ballads
and psyching stop.

Speaker 11 (50:36):
Man.

Speaker 14 (50:36):
But we have to say in that class man. He's
one of the greatest football minds, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady,
Drew Brees. So got to give it a shot, man.
That's all I have to say about it.

Speaker 12 (50:49):
Man.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
No.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
I think a lot of people the way too. And
it's kind of what I said to you a minute ago, James,
you got a lottery ticket.

Speaker 5 (50:55):
Right.

Speaker 1 (50:55):
If it works out, great, but if it does not,
only think too many people are going to be that's
the way that went right. But I mean, could it
be any worse than what we've seen for the last
five weeks?

Speaker 4 (51:06):
I always subscribe to the idea that he could get
worse and.

Speaker 3 (51:10):
Well, and this is what the Riley Leonard think comes
into play, Like, explain that would Riley Leonard offer you
a better chance than forty four year old Philip Rivers?
Because when we debated this Monday and Tuesday, guys, we
didn't think Riley Leonard was healthy enough to play right.

Speaker 1 (51:27):
Now?

Speaker 2 (51:27):
He just participated fully in practice, he said, does yesterday, James,
I'll have no limitations today practice right. So it's a
good point. That gets it.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
And again maybe we're splitting hairs here, but if we
want to hand out letter grades, and if you think
Philip Rivers is going to look like a D plus
on Sunday, and you think Philip, you think Ryley Leonard
could look like a C plus?

Speaker 2 (51:47):
Could that be enough? Does the fact that Ryley Leonard
has a threat to make a play with his legs.

Speaker 3 (51:52):
Say Hey, I'm Seattle Seahawks safety Kobe Bryant, and I've
got to react to Riley Leonard, and all of a sudden,
me being worried about Leonard allows Jonathan Taylor to crease one,
whereas the Philip rivers, Jeff, you would catch him in
the open field.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
I like I said the other day, I expect to
see a lot of seven and eight man boxes all
day and until he proves that he can beat you downfield,
until he proves he can throw that fifteen or seventeen
yard out, Good luck John and Taylor. I'm just gonna
start sending guys to you.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
I thought it was interesting that Philip said I'm not
here to be a savior, and I'm like, mmm, kind
of yeah. I'm thinking, you know, you got a little
Jesus in you. You know, you're very Christian and very
excited to be back out there. So I don't think
it's gonna be just a bunch of handoffs. So that'll
be part of the game plan for sure. But you

(52:44):
can't come back just to hand the ball off. You
had to throw it too, So I'm very curious.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
The story is undoubtedly awesome.

Speaker 3 (52:53):
Oh yes, if you ignore the consequences, potentially the story
is absurd. I mean, this man loves football more than
I love Tiger Woods. And if you are Colleen Bowen
my mother listening to Shane Steichen and Philip Rivers yesterday
talk and emotional Philip Rivers on multiple times, you're caught
up in that. Oh I was drinking the kool aid

(53:15):
until about four to twenty five at Sunday you're thinking
to yourself, Oh my gosh, this is one of the
wildest sports stories ever. Could you imagine someone not playing
NFL football for five years, let alone the father of
a tent father of ten, let alone the grandfather twice
the age of what half the people in the huddle
on Sunday, Yeah, and him possibly playing adequate enough football

(53:40):
for you to win a We need this December game
more than anything.

Speaker 2 (53:44):
I mean, colt are still in the playoff race. So
the story again, if you ignore the consequences of the
other side of the story for a second, well that's
all I do in my life. It's one of the
wilder sports stories ever ever.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
Like, you know, how many times do you think people
casually get into the debate of like, oh you think
you think you could play, you think you.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Can still do it? Like you hear that a lot,
and you hear from ex athletes a lot, and who
are the most illusional people? Ex athletes?

Speaker 1 (54:14):
I'm sorry because they always felt they could do anything
anyway exactly right.

Speaker 3 (54:17):
And like Philip, I think had the proper dose of
I'm a little ignorant and thinking I can do this. Yeah,
and he hinted at that a couple of times yesterday.
But I also think him and Chane Stike can have
this insane belief that their brains can get it done.
Their brains can get it done. Let me again focus

(54:38):
on the actual body part here, not leg, not arm.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
Brain.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
They feel like they will queue up something from a
preparation standpoint that's going to give them an opportunity to
be better, I guess than whatever they think Riley Leonard
could look like.

Speaker 1 (54:50):
On Sunday, to the nine ten seventy number to call,
Let's go to Matt next this morning and the brand
new studios. Good morning, Matt. What you got for us today? Hey?

Speaker 5 (55:00):
Real quick?

Speaker 15 (55:00):
I guess just a heads up on your new phone
lines too. I had to keep the radio up because
when we're on hold, we can't actually hear the conversation.

Speaker 1 (55:07):
You got ah good to know, Hey, to know absolutely.

Speaker 15 (55:11):
Now, Philip Rivers, you know you look back, Stan Humphreys
went to a Super Bowl. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl.
To me, the big thing is they did those which
is why I never understood everybody saying we couldn't win
with Jones.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
You know he's he's not that guy.

Speaker 15 (55:26):
Well, you can have just a solid quarterback and win
a Super Bowl if you've got a great defense.

Speaker 1 (55:33):
And you can run those two things. You've got to
be able to both.

Speaker 15 (55:36):
Yeah, I think a lot of pressures on lou to
to make some massive changes from what we've seen on
the defense the last couple of weeks. I think we
gave interception fumble and going forward on fourth down on
our on forty five. I think we gave away twenty
one points last weekend. But they could have won that
game with Riley Leonard. So I like Rivers. I think

(55:59):
spend the week man, we got to shout with this guy.

Speaker 1 (56:01):
Yeah, we'll see what happens. But they are playing a
really good football team this weekend. That's the other thing
that they will They've got the number one receiver in
the league and they are going to be blitzing you.

Speaker 2 (56:10):
Having a lot of touchdown two all day long defensive.

Speaker 4 (56:12):
But to this point, I do think that the defense,
and of course it's gonna get overlooked in our coverage
because the big story is Philip Rivers and I'm living
it right now. I cannot write any other story at
the Athletic that doesn't have the name Rivers in it,
or I might lose my job, Like they're telling me,
you got to talk about this, You got to write.

Speaker 2 (56:30):
About this, which is fine.

Speaker 4 (56:31):
But the defense is a part of the equation for sure,
because you can't you can't afford to be you know,
in a shootout with this team, your defense is gonna
have to help you out.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
Get a couple turnover, give you a short.

Speaker 4 (56:46):
Field, give you something to the effect of not having
to line it up and say, go seventy five eighty
yards against this defense four times to win this game.

Speaker 3 (56:55):
Yeah, I mean, some blueprint has to look like Jonathan
Taylor creases one or two, your defense shows up and
it rains and the ball bounces your.

Speaker 2 (57:04):
Way a couple of times.

Speaker 3 (57:05):
Yeah, I mean, that's inevitably how some sort of blueprint
is going to happen.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
You you bribed the twelfth Man to help you.

Speaker 3 (57:12):
Does Seattle get caught looking ahead to Thursday night with
the Rams? Like Seattle, Howard, Seattle has a massive game
a week from tonight with the Rams?

Speaker 2 (57:20):
Right do the Seahawks? And I say this and all shit,
are those guys foaming at the mouth for stat hunting?

Speaker 1 (57:26):
Are they?

Speaker 13 (57:26):
Like?

Speaker 2 (57:26):
Dude, they're starting a forty four year old ground. This
is where I get my all Pro week and pad
the stats. Yea.

Speaker 3 (57:32):
And if all of a sudden that leads to undisciplined,
is that where Rivers comes into play of like, oh wow,
these two dudes are trying to hunt and whatever.

Speaker 2 (57:40):
Get this sack or jump this route.

Speaker 3 (57:42):
If I have one pump fake and we can hold
up here, all of a sudden, you know, can you
hit something? This is all probably the far fetched thought process.
But again on the scale of James Boy to Jared Lorenzen,
it was a lot more Jared Lorenzen from what I
saw from Uncle Phil Walker in there yesterday.

Speaker 1 (58:00):
I was before we get to our X phone call, Matt,
I was gonna ask you about that because Radio.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Corey Goes is the first play going to be a bootleg.
I'm thinking Philip Rivers running a boot.

Speaker 1 (58:12):
So describe the body type that we're talking about now.
Is it dad bought or a grandpa bought?

Speaker 3 (58:19):
I said it thirty or forty minutes ago, and I'll
say it again. When Philip Rivers walked into the media
room yesterday, my first thought was, that is Tim Allen
here to save Christmas?

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Is Thor coming back? Remember when thora checked out for
a while in the Marvel universe? When he came back and.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
He was all, that's a funny reference, which.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
Again I think we all can get behind a little
Tim Allen action here we I mean, look, trust me,
Kevin Boonen's hands are raised.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
He looks a lot more like Tim Allen than he does.
You know, felt Santa?

Speaker 1 (58:56):
There we go? Mark?

Speaker 2 (58:59):
Was that a button? Was that your voice?

Speaker 1 (59:00):
That was me? I like it?

Speaker 2 (59:02):
That was excellent in there.

Speaker 1 (59:03):
I thought maybe you're starting to find all the drops
and stuff today.

Speaker 7 (59:06):
No, I don't have any Tim Allen drops of that.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
Let's go talk to Matt next to two through nine
ten seventy. Matt, you want to talk about coach taken?

Speaker 5 (59:15):
This is John John.

Speaker 12 (59:18):
Yeah, I wanted to talk. I feel like that as
a coach is your job to make players feel like
they can do what you asked them to do, and
if you've been coaching Riley Leonard all year, it's a
slap in his face to mentor him, to deal with him.

(59:43):
And then when it's time to count on him, you
go get somebody off the couch and say you trust
him more than you do the person you drafted, You
invested time in you, you gave all this responsibility to,
you had him second on the depth chart, and then
to go get Philip Rivers and consider starting him over.

(01:00:04):
This person that's been working for you, has been studying
with you, have been in the room with you for
all year, and then make him feel inadequate. I feel
like that's the same thing he did with Anthony Richardson
with things got bad. If you look at last year
in Green Bay when love went down Willis, nobody believed

(01:00:24):
Willis was gonna come in and do a good job,
but they put him in there. He won a couple
games for him. I just don't understand the commitment issues
of psyching Hanks boy John.

Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
I think there's so much accurate info there, so much
and James, That's where I've kind of sided on this
Thursday morning, one of my biggest surprises in the last
twenty four hours. Twenty four hours ago, I thought Philip
Rivers would start on Sunday, but I thought Riley Leonard's
health was a big.

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Factor in that. I no longer think that.

Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
I think this is purely Shane Stiken caught up in
the aura of Philip Rivers and thinking, believing we've lost
four or five.

Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
We need juice more.

Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
So than Ryle Leonard can't go. Ry Lander was a
full participant in a Wednesday practice. James, you have covered
the NFL long enough. If you are a full participant
on a Wednesday practice, you play ninety nine times out
of one hundred.

Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
And to be clear, when we were watching to move around,
this was not Daniel Jones on Thanksgiving two weeks ago
when we were all like, oh boy, is your leg
attached to your body right now?

Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
He looks fine. Hell, he looked better than.

Speaker 4 (01:01:40):
The old guy when it comes from a movement standpoint.
But one thing to note, and we'll get to the checkdown.
And maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the
order of the quarterbacks yesterday, which is typically how it
goes when it comes to reps, was Rivers Leonard then ripping.

Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
All signs point to number seventeen under center as long
as he woke up today and felt fine, which I mean,
that's a fair question.

Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
I feel like, do we call him seventeen A or
seventeen B seventeen DC. I like that, good job out
of you, Mark. Let's check it down.

Speaker 6 (01:02:15):
The Morning Checkdown on ninety sweet five and one oh
seven five the.

Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Fan talking about the new acquisition for the Indianapolis Colts.
His name is Philip Rivers and he may or may
not be the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. James.
He is still on the practice squad as we speak,
and if.

Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
We keep speaking by the end of this show, you
might be activated. That's how confident I feel in him
playing Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
And I think you pointed out yesterday just the reps right,
it was clearly Philip Rivers one, Bradley Leonard two, Brett
Rippon three.

Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
Yeah, for the portion that we saw in the media
viewing period, that was the order.

Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
It's funny I looked over in the locker room, James.
I know you caught that, but Tanner Bordolini was like
mimicking snaps to Philip Rivers as they were putting on
their pads to get ready for.

Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Kind of like that on deck batters taking as Philip.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Is shaking hands of these guys that he hasn't met yet.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
So yes, I would say again, as long as Philip
Rivers didn't trip and fall one hundred times in practice,
he will be the starter on something.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
So we know what happened yesterday in the public press conferences.
I'm curious what did Shane Stiken say to his team
about all of this.

Speaker 16 (01:03:19):
Yeah, I think you've got a guy that's done it
at a high level. Obviously it's been some time for him,
but the leadership that he has and the juice he's
going to bring to this football team is gonna you know,
I think it's going to be awesome for our guys
just out on the practice field in those meeting rooms.
Like I said, we're eight and five. You know, we
got everything we want in front of us, and we
got to go do it. You know, we got a

(01:03:40):
hell of a challenge this week in Seattle that we
got to get ready for.

Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
So there you go, Kevin, that's the masters to the guys.
Juice your word to start today. Juice for the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Juice so much squeezes in it. He is juice. He
is juice.

Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
College basketball? Where do I even go from there? James?

Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
You got to keep rolling. See that's the old problem.
So if you got to keep rolling.

Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
The Boilermakers set home Machie last night, they were winners
over the Golden Gophers of Minnesota eighty five fifty seven.
They had a three point advantage at halftime and then
started the second half of a twenty one point run.
That's big time, James Boyd.

Speaker 4 (01:04:17):
Yeah, I mean, this is still a very good basketball team.
And I get all the jokes, you know, a lot
of them from IU fans, and I'll be justice petty
after they got steamrolled as a number one team in
the country by Iowa State. But best believe that team
will bounce back and be there at the end to
say something about, you know, how the season could go
in the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
You want to talk about a line from Brayden Smith
last night. Fifteen points, six boards, twelve assists, five steals,
and two block shots in thirty one minutes of play.

Speaker 4 (01:04:43):
This is me playing maximall on one on one. Get
them ready, Kevin, So that works.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
Also a nice performance Treykoff and Ren bounced back from
a tough Saturday fourteen and ten for him. Oscar Cloff
had fourteen points and eleven rebounds. Fletcher Lawyer was two
for four from the field. He had ten points. It
was all said and done. Indiana will be playing on
Saturday against Kentucky down in Lexington. Meanwhile, Notre Dame played

(01:05:08):
a basketball game last night. Kevin Bell and I don't
know if you heard, but the fighting Irish at home.
We're able to hold off the Idaho Annals by a
score of eighty to sixty five in that game last night.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Thank you Austin for this. He goes juice is stupid.
Just drink water, Aka Riley.

Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
I like it. Go Beko. Johnson led this scoring last
night with nineteen points. For your fight in Irish.

Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
He plays for Idaho.

Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
I'm sorry he led the gate, he led Idah. Thank
you very much.

Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Yes, you don't even know your Notre Dame basketball personnel.

Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
No, I was.

Speaker 2 (01:05:38):
Don't worry, Jeff, I don't either. That was my best
friends here.

Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
That was my best Ron Burgundy right there.

Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Marcus Freeman in Michigan.

Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
How'd that happened? During a Notre Dame story. I don't know, James.

Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
Middle Finger.

Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
I fact I got Mark in my ear saying Marcus
Freeman and Michigan next.

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Speaking of Michigan, they are looking for a new head coach.
What a day for Sharon Morios today, Kevin, this is
just bizarre. He's let go by the school very publicly
for having an allegedly and inappropriate relationship with another staff
member there. But then later in the afternoon he's taken
into custody potentially a suspect in an alleged assault of

(01:06:19):
some type. They weren't real clear on all that. But
that's a tough day for a guy.

Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
I would say. Tough day is a very light way
to put it. Sound absolutely horrific. It sounds awful.

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
It sounds like I'd rather write the Philip Rivers story
three hundred and sixty five days out of the year
than cover this story.

Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
Uh so we'll see what they next.

Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
Oh man, I actually think that not nom serious? Get
given the j why not?

Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
I mean of the lack of options? Maybe did any
coach up there doesn't have a lake house in Michigan.
I'm not against it. Who else? Your options are very limited?
I'm limited Jesse Mintor from the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
Man, that's what's going on in college football. Of course,
we're getting ready for the playoffs to start, and we
won't see the ye We won't see the end of
those playoffs until Rose Bowl New Year's Day. So they
got a lot of work. And of course the tough
news yesterday Kevin that they did indeed lose one of
their key defensive players. Celebrating after the win yesterday, that's

(01:07:21):
still tough to sink in right there.

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Yeah, just awful, awful for Steven Daily and Indiana as well.
One of the more horrific injury scenes you'll see for
those unfamiliar. Daily, one of the more disruptive defensive lineman
all of college football this season. I had a great
game on Saturday night. I think he had the final
pressure of the game on saying had a sack as well. Now,
one thing about their D line group, I think it's

(01:07:44):
been their best unit all year long. I think it's
got great dev Pat Koons and company have done an
awesome job with that bunch. And you know, McHale Kamara
has been a little banged up this season, and you
last year you played at an All American level so
you know, I'm curious for this time off if he
could get back to that level. And I also think
the good news is, no matter who you play on
New Year's Day, Oklahoma and Alabama, their offensive stink. Alabama

(01:08:07):
negative rushing yards in the SEC title game and Oklahoma
just can't move it. So I do think that is
that that helps out Indiana in that realm. But still
just a just horrific. You know the video of him
high five and fans and apparently got hurt in that moment,
just awful.

Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
All right. Two quick scores. NBA Cup last night, the
West have their semi finals. The Thunder beat the Suns
one thirty eight to eighty nine and the Spurs over
the Lakers one thirty two one nineteen. Those two teams
will play for the Western I can't can't call it
a title of any kind, but that'll be the Western
representative in the NBA Cup Final. So that's what's going

(01:08:46):
on in the NBA. And Kevin, I promise from here
and I'll make you a promise. I'll pinky square no
more disrespect another.

Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Day, Bryan says, Phil Rivers is bringing prune juice. Jeez,
I ain't gonna.

Speaker 4 (01:08:56):
Only person I know my life that uses prune juice
as my grandma.

Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
Well, I'll just leave that right there.

Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
But I say, I think you've said it all, James
and joke rightesself. Yeah, all right, come out up in
a moment, no joke. Butler's playing pretty good basketball right now.
We'll speak with their head coach that Mada next. It's
ninety three five and one on seven five the f
Good morning, everyone, Welcome into the Fan Morning Show. James Boyd,
Kevin Bown, Jeff Rickard, and of course Mike Dark, Mark
Dyton whatever your what's your name, Mark Dydon on the

(01:09:25):
other side of the glass this morning, I want to say,
on the other side, it's way. You have your own
room now I do it with attendance and everything. You
got like an audience in there, all kinds of stuff
going on.

Speaker 7 (01:09:34):
I know, I feel a little bit of uncomfortable as
too many people right now.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
I can't take ants off.

Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
Oh lord, you know our next guest is on the phone.
You can hear everything. It's the head coach for the
Butler Bulldogs. I don't know what it's like sometimes around
where you're at, but who knows what's going to happen
here at that who knows. We like it that way.

Speaker 11 (01:09:55):
It's a good thing, right, I mean, there's there's nothing
better than the unknown, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:09:59):
We're starting to find out out a little bit more
about the Butler Bulldogs. They I think you've played well
so far. What have your thoughts been over these first
couple of weeks.

Speaker 11 (01:10:11):
Well, you know, we've had some good moments, there's no
question about that. And and I think as the whole
teams in college basketball, we're still a work in progress.

Speaker 13 (01:10:20):
And you know, just sort of getting.

Speaker 11 (01:10:23):
Guys experience at certain positions and and you know, kind
of looking at our rotations and seeing what guys are
bringing to the table with the bringing to the table.

Speaker 13 (01:10:33):
And you know, the hard part is no opponents the same.

Speaker 11 (01:10:36):
And you know from for instance, you know, you play Boys,
you stayed on on Saturday, and you got Providence this Saturday,
and there are two completely different basketball teams. And so
trying to get your guys to understand the preparation that
goes into what we have to do and and how we.

Speaker 13 (01:10:53):
Have to do it.

Speaker 11 (01:10:54):
I think that's the biggest things in terms of the
teaching and the coaching that we have to do.

Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
What did you see particularly, I guess that second half
when you know it's a pretty close game on Saturday
there with Boise and then they made that run and
you guys couldn't get back in it.

Speaker 13 (01:11:08):
Yeah, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 11 (01:11:10):
You know, it's uh when you play a team like
Boys Stay and I said this last week, they're they're
really really good team. And you know, we had some
some breakdowns defensively and you know, they just say they
made us pay for him. And then offensively, you know,
it's one of those games where we really really struggled
to put the ball in the basket. You know, we

(01:11:30):
missed too dunks at the beginning of the game, and uh,
I think we're one for eleven for three at halftime,
and and you know had some.

Speaker 17 (01:11:37):
That were great looks that went in and out, and uh,
you know when that happens, you got to you gotta
keep defending. You can't tie your your offense to your defense.
And uh, every you know the game like that, every
posssion is vitally important.

Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
Dad, I'm very curious about this when it comes to
college basketball schedule, you all have quite the gap in
between now and your next game and have you had
quiet the gap rather, what does that look like? How
do you plan for that when you know you're gonna
have your guys off probably a little healthier, but you
want them to stay in that competitive mind frame.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
For a big game comp against Providence.

Speaker 11 (01:12:12):
Yeah, you know this catching is is is crazy, to
be honest with you, And this is kind of a
slow week in college basketball, and then next week's finals week.
You know, I remember Peck the day when it was
taboo to play a game during.

Speaker 13 (01:12:24):
The finals week.

Speaker 11 (01:12:25):
We got h we're right yukon next Wednesday. I know
we got guys taking finals out there, but no, we
we've taken.

Speaker 13 (01:12:32):
This week and and you know, really tried to hone
in on us.

Speaker 11 (01:12:37):
As well as prepared for Providence. But uh, you know,
knowing that that we got a we got a lot
of areas and that we need to get better at
and we've addressed those.

Speaker 13 (01:12:45):
And we've also gotten some rest.

Speaker 11 (01:12:47):
We've we've been sick this week. We haven't had a
full roster. Uh, hopefully today we've got everybody back, but uh,
we've been missing like four guys and practice this week.

Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
That makes it makes it tough. Question about a fat
moda brought to you every week by Thompson Furniture and
Mattress and Columbus in business since the year before Heinklefield
House open, that's nineteen twenty seven. Lazy Boy Indiana has
made Smith Brothers Furniture, Stearns and Foster temper Pedic mattresses,
free deliberty the entire Indie metro area. It's worth the
drive to Columbus too. Check them out. Thompson Furniture dot

(01:13:20):
Net coach. We talk about the big guns all the time,
Finley Bizjack and we talk about Jai and guys like that.
From the bottom of your roster up. Who are some
of the guys that have really impressed you and have
worked hard and are making a contribution for you on
the floor right now that people don't always see.

Speaker 13 (01:13:35):
Well, Yeah, let me.

Speaker 11 (01:13:36):
Starting with Jamie KUIs. I think Jamie's is having a
heck of a season. We need him to get more
shots up throughout the course of the game, but you know, defensively,
he's had some really really good moments for us.

Speaker 12 (01:13:49):
I think you see.

Speaker 11 (01:13:50):
Drayton Jones is kind of coming into the player that
we were hoping he was going to be the mud
four shots, the other day, which we need the rim protection.

Speaker 13 (01:14:00):
I think Xavier and is growing.

Speaker 11 (01:14:03):
I mean he's nine college games into his career, and
you know, folks that who missed five weeks is getting
more and more game experience. You know, Johann we I
like the way when he's when he's on, he's playing
really well. We got to get more consistent throughout. But
I think he's doing a heck of a job for so,

(01:14:23):
you know, just really across the board, and you know,
the freshmen are coming along.

Speaker 13 (01:14:27):
We've we've been able to get.

Speaker 11 (01:14:28):
Them a lot of experience early uh in the season,
so you know, hopefully, and that's that's one of our things.

Speaker 13 (01:14:34):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:14:34):
We got to keep developing these guys all the way through.
We never stopped with the skill instruction and and all
the film work that we do on the side and
just trying to get him be the best they can be.

Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
Biggy Slay and open up here for the Bulldogs coming
up on Saturday. They got providence inside of Hankle a
to o'clock tip that model with us on the Payloss
Slickers hotline. Coach, I don't know if it's the Philip
Rivers storyline that has me going down a little bit
of memory lane. But we obviously saw Greg Odin on
your staff there a butler for a couple of years,
and he has moved on.

Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
For our audience, I might not know. Could you fill
us in on where Greg is at right now from
a professional standpoint.

Speaker 11 (01:15:11):
Yeah, you know, great went back to Columbus and is
doing you know, kind of the social media thing. And
talked to him not so long ago and really enjoyed
he you know, wanted to be your father, raised London
and be more more at home and that sort of thing,
which he's able to do.

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
It's always terrific to talk to you every week, coach.
We appreciate you taking the time out and doing that.
Good luck this weekend Saturday, Providence the Fieldhouse. You're ready
to go. Let's let's do it. Let's get another w Okay,
it's going It's.

Speaker 11 (01:15:39):
Going to be a high octane game.

Speaker 13 (01:15:42):
They play fast as we do.

Speaker 11 (01:15:43):
So it's bring your bring your track shues to this one.

Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
I like it, Thanks, coach. I appreciate you.

Speaker 13 (01:15:50):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
There is Dad Mada brought to you every week by
Thompson Furniture and Mattress Down and Columbus and Business in
the year before Hinklefield House open. That's nineteen twenty seven.
They've got Lazy Boy Indiana's made Smith Brothers Furniture, Sterns
and Foster temper Pedic mattresses, free deliberty the entire Indianapolis
metro area. Itselso worth the drive to Columbus Thompson Furniture
Dot and Spencer Thompson brought us all these beautiful yettis yesterday.

(01:16:15):
You got one a Bears themed correct with your name
engraved on it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
No, I got Illinois.

Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Oh you got Illinois?

Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
Yeah, I think Mark and Orange.

Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
You got the Bears, and you got Notre Dame Kevin awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Thank you Spencer for that. I shot him text yesterday,
really really cool. So yeah, good looking yetties. Even Matty
Bowen was impressed. Usually the Notre Dame gears.

Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
She's like, oh, no, I got.

Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
A right, so you can get your own Yetty down
there apparently engraved by Thompson Furniture and Mattress in Columbus, Indiana.
So go check that out. But thank you very much, Spencer.
Very appreciated here in the brand new studios as well.
We're probably not supposed to have these on the desk
of the new studio. But I told Nick Lopez, chief Engineering, Hey,
it's a sponsor related thing. We're gonna do that. He's like, okay,

(01:16:57):
So see they weren't even that worried about it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
I got a Bhil River's EU connection on the other side.

Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
Oh, I can't wait to hear that. Kevin Bowen juice,
not prune juice. We're going, oj baby, that's next ninety
three five, one seven five the fans. James is grooving
to the tunes again. It's nice, guys. Is it nice
to have windows in the studio for a change. You
can kind of see what's going on. What are you
talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
You can still see what's the people.

Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
You can still see what's going on there. The seat
through blind man, oh man, you're gonna walk over there
and open those blinds.

Speaker 2 (01:17:31):
I got this because first of all, Mark, stay in
your room, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
It's not even blinds, it's the sea through screen.

Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
Okay, all right, see see you have stayed up. It's beautiful.

Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
We're right across the street from the old Angie's building.
Remember the building. I don't know what it's called.

Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
Now that's that is just beautiful outside.

Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Thank you for that.

Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
I got a Philip Rivers, I you connection, what do
you got? Do we need good vibes for Yes, we
need a His first ever start on the.

Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
Road in college was in Bloomington, Indiana. Really as a
true freshman starter at NC State. His second career game,
first ever road start. Where you're going with a beat?
Antoine Randelel and the Hoosiers forty one thirty eight. Phil
Rivers threw for four hundred one yards in the year
two thousand, twenty five years ago, five touchdowns, four hundred

(01:18:27):
and one yards for Philip Rivers. The next year, they
beat Indiana in the return game in Raleigh.

Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
The position coach for Philip Rivers in the year two
thousand at INC State, I think I.

Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
Know this answer, so I don't want to like spoil it.

Speaker 1 (01:18:46):
Go for it.

Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
James Boyd, is it sig.

Speaker 13 (01:18:51):
One?

Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
Curtis Signetti?

Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
It was almost I was gonna say it about that
a totald. Guess that's because it's too crazy to be true.

Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
That's all true. I think I already knew it. How
about it? All right? The vibes for Sunday Phils thrown
for three thirty and three Offensive Player of the Week,
literally our entire show in the last two days.

Speaker 4 (01:19:10):
It's nothing is too good to be true because Philip
Rivers is out of retirement, so go for broke at
this point that just you.

Speaker 1 (01:19:17):
Know, you just it's crazy how life and sports is
never really more than one or two degrees of separation.
Everything seems to come full circle at some point in time.
But I would have never in a million years thought
other than just the reason you were asking it. Connecting
to Indian in the first place is the only reason
Signette would have been in my mind. Never would have
thought that twenty five years later.

Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
Well, you know, like I was a fifth grader, James
Boyd was five years old. Yeah, and Kurt Signetti was
coaching Philip Rivers. And now in this week in our
sports life, they are the two most popular name. I
don't know, house you want to describe it. They're the
biggest names in our city, yeahow in our state.

Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
You know, you talk about it being seven degrees separation
from somebody or something like that, it's like three when
it comes to professional sports. I feel like everybody's always
known somebody, So it is kind of serendipitous that that
is overlapping the way it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Has James we let off the show with this.

Speaker 3 (01:20:09):
I've never seen Shane Sdyke and his energized at a
Wednesday press conferences yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
It's it at least has been quite some time.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
But he didn't like he usually comes in there like,
you know, puppy's been hit by a car sort of vibes.
It is subdued, it is you know, you know it
almost wrote this morning the opponent and then you know
about puppies. No, no, no, I was gonna write this in
my story and actually did write it, but I edited
it out because I was like, that's probably too mean.

(01:20:38):
My original line in the story was Shane, who typically
has as much enthusiasm as a stop sign was.

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
And I was like, that's too mean.

Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
So why are we talking to the kind that white up?

Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
That's a little harsh.

Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
But so I went with, you know, saying it was
typically stoic, you know, reserve something along those lines.

Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Yeah, reserves subdue none of that. Shout out to my
voice saying none of that.

Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
Gotta love it. Let's go to the text line right now,
two through nine ten seventy you can call in as well.
Got the brand new digs here, Gary and Noblesville, like
a lot of folks, and this is no shame on anybody,
but a lot of people in the text line the
last couple of days have been saying, well, what about
what about Richardson? What about ar What's going on with him?
And he's as far as we know, still not close

(01:21:27):
to being back on the football field, right.

Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
So ort, Yeah, part of me was honestly related to
see him back on the football field yesterday, not practicing.

Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
He's still on injury reserve.

Speaker 4 (01:21:41):
We're just seeing him out there, Kevin mimicking the drop backs,
wearing the goggles and looking like he could actually move around.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
Because so much of your recovery from.

Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
What I've read online, this isn't like I'm reading you know,
fan fiction here, just like medical stuff WebMD. Yeah, literally
some of that stuff. When you have apital fracture, you
struggle to have the ability to move because of how
much force you can put on your body and that
reverberates back.

Speaker 1 (01:22:08):
Up hold your face together, so you can't.

Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
Like go jogging if your face is fractured. So he
I did talk to him briefly in the locker room yesterday.
I told him that me and him both need haircuts,
looking a little rough these days. I'm a lot going on,
but he was excited to just be back there in
some capacity. And the last thing I'll say is Shane
has not ruled him out for the season.

Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
So part of me at this point is like, let's.

Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
Open Ar's twenty one day window next week and have
it be Anthony Richardson and Philip Rivers and Riley Leonard
trying to compete for the starting job against the forty
nine ers on Monday Night Football.

Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
Four games to go. Who starts the most games at
quarterback for the Colts rest of the year? Rivers, Leonard, Richardson.

Speaker 1 (01:22:55):
Rivers, I'm just gonna be counter and safe. Riley Leonard.

Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
And what's going on with our cameras?

Speaker 4 (01:23:03):
Man, we got a single shot on Jeff here, you're
missing my hands.

Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
And say the computers have taken over.

Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
The computers are supposed to to adjust all those again,
a lot of dialing in over the next week.

Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
Or two, Jeff, you said, Leonard.

Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
I'll have our own camera soon, James, so you'll be
getting up close and personal. But go ahead, you said, Leonard.

Speaker 2 (01:23:20):
Aren't they telling us what they think of Leonard right now?

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
They kind of are, But I look, I make a
joke out of it, and I want this to work out,
and I can see all of the rationale on why
they want to do this, and I get where they're
coming from. I totally do. But this is why I'm
half serious when I say to you, James earlier this morning.
If this is going badly and he can't move and
he becomes a sitting duck and the velocity is not

(01:23:45):
there that he can make that fifteen yard out and
he can't push it downfield at all, to the point
where now defenses are just completely stacking the box against
against Taylor, What is the hook like, I really am
I'm curious. What does the hook look like if it
does not work out?

Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
I'm not so sure.

Speaker 1 (01:24:05):
And I bring all this up because we're not just
talking about a guy who's been out for five years
and that he's forty four. But when he was thirty
nine at the end, we were thinking, maybe he can
coax one more year out of that arm. But we
had started to have a little bit of a discussion
than Adam Wee Kevin about what his long term future
was going to be, not just because he was thirty nine,
but it looked like he did wear down just a

(01:24:26):
little bit as the season wore along. I don't yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
Mean, pushing the ball vertically is a major question for
Sunday and you know, moving forward for however long he plays.
In my opinion, like if I'm Alc Pis, I'm thinking, boy,
at least I showed out early in the year, and
I'm gonna get my money because I can't imagine the
opportunities are going to be too abundant down the field
for Alec Piers on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:24:45):
I want the first play from Skimmers to just go
for Just send Alec Pierce long and see what you
got James, just to tell the defense we're gonna try this.

Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
You need some time back there to get it through.

Speaker 4 (01:24:55):
So that's another thing I want to think of as
far as factors with his game. The offensive line a
little bit leaky over the last month or so. I
don't think they played at the level that they had
to the first eight games when Daniel Jones playing his
best football.

Speaker 2 (01:25:08):
So what does that look like? How does that.

Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
Factor into what Philip Rivers does on Sunday, assuming he starts,
because it would be at this point in the week
most likely a rookie right tackle and Jalen Travis caught
up with him yesterday. He excited about the opportunity, but
it's one thing again to think you can do it,
but to go out there and do it, it's totally different.

Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
I like everyone else, though, I keep saying this over
and over. I hope it works out. Can you imagine
the story and what we'll be talking about on Monday?
And this is a likely scenario too, Kevin, what are
Philip Rivers for this first game? Back plays okay and
the Colts stay competitive but lose to a really good
Seattle team. I don't know, twenty seven, twenty one, when

(01:26:00):
it's all over, now, how are we feeling about things
moving forward for the rest of the year and the
likely outcome that he plays okay but they still lose.

Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
I don't think you're feeling great because it's a loss.

Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
I'm not saying feeling great. But this is a really
good team.

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
Right, but you got four weeks left. You got to
win games again the playoffs. Yeah, you can't have moral victories.
I mean, like, yeah, you can sit here and say,
Philip Rivers hat tip, you know, the kid doing the
respect thing to Derek Jeter. Yeah, yeah, you can go there.
But when you're outside of the playoff picture.

Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
I mean, if you look at the AFC South right
now this week, the Colts are a double digit underdog,
the Texans are a double digit favorite, and I believe
the Jags are close to a double digit favorite. So
if all those.

Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
Play out, that means the Colts are going to be
even further behind those teams. So you just on December fourteenth,
you just can't really celebrate moral victories if you're trying
to end the longest playoff drought your franchise has had
in thirty years.

Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Curious, you guys have an opportunity to talk to the
players one more time today, right on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
Yeah, today, and uh Atona, I'm.

Speaker 1 (01:27:02):
Curious to see what their feedback is going to be
from wide receivers, especially on how they were feeling, not
just what they're rhythm with Philip Rivers, but how's the
ball feel when it's coming into their hands?

Speaker 3 (01:27:11):
Well, and how does phil Rivers feel right now? I mean,
when when is the last I asked us in all seriousness,
when's the last time you think Philip Rivers has exerted
himself in a physical capacity like he did yesterday five
years ago, literally the wild card game against Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Yeah, that's what I think that would be. Actually, not kidding,
I'm not here to say.

Speaker 1 (01:27:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
Maybe he's done a triathlon or maybe he's climbed Mount
I guess that he.

Speaker 4 (01:27:35):
You know, trains a couple guys a couple times a year,
and still to my knowledge, throws regularly, well seminar regularly
in his backyard and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
But yes, to your points of life, it's totally different.

Speaker 1 (01:27:45):
Yeah, your speed's different, intensity is different, everything's picked up,
all right. Coming up at a moment, we will continue
our discussion about the Cults coming up against the Seattle Seahawks.
Are reminder that you'll be able to hear that game
in its entirety on ninety seven point one HENK FM
this weekend because during that play window, the Indiana Pacers
will be playing and we'll be airing that game. I'll

(01:28:07):
tell you more about that coming up in just a moment. Here. Again,
get in touch with us on the fan text line
two three nine ten seventy. You can call us up
and get on the air the old fashioned way. We're
in the brand new studios down here in downtown Indianapolis.
We'll tell you more about that over the next sixty
minutes as well. It's ninety three five one oh seven
five the fan.

Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
How about we grow hair, Indy.

Speaker 3 (01:28:28):
I think right now, honestly, we all might be losing
our hair a little bit here. The gold standard for
hair restoration, that is what we grow hair, Indy.

Speaker 1 (01:28:34):
Look a lot going on around here right now, as
you know. The Purdue boiler Makers get a win in
basketball last night at Mackie A nice job bouncing back
from the Iowas Tate game. They beat Minnesota. We'll be
talking all morning long, and have been talking for the
last day or two about Philip Rivers joining the Indianapolis Colts.
But everybody around here is an Indiana football fan, Kevin.
They're still just kind of riding the high and taking

(01:28:56):
that cloud ride from a big Tin championship win, a
continued undef season, and now they're getting ready to play
a playoff game at the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
Is the number one ranked team in the country. Michael
and nis Alek or Nyslek covers the team for UH.
The indian University Athletics beat at the Herald Times down there,

(01:29:17):
and he has watched this evolution every step of the way,
and he's kind enough to join us this morning on
the Payless Likers hotline. Michael, thanks so much for being here.
We appreciate it. And even when this season started, was
being undefeated and being the number one overall seed in
the college football playoff? Was that a bridge too far
even in your mind at the beginning of the season.

Speaker 18 (01:29:39):
Uh, you know you could after what they did last year.
I don't think you could rule anything out. I mean,
you know, they had that much harder schedule obviously, but
everybody kind of thought they brought, you know, a core
group of talent, and obviously is the man in charge, uh,
you know, as a history of winning. So I guess
anything was possible, and it was.

Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
Mike.

Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
I hear you ask questions on conference calls all the
time and people say your last name like me speaking
wing Dings. Is that correct?

Speaker 5 (01:30:08):
Yes? Correct?

Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
Absolutely want to make sure I got tories all good.

Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
Mike Nasley from Hale Times with this yere Payless Lakers Hotline.
You are Heisman Trophy ceremony bound.

Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
Correct?

Speaker 5 (01:30:19):
Correct? Yes? Home to New York in the morning.

Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
Yes, I'm gonna guess that's your first time covering it.
If not, have you ever covered it and do you
have any idea like what Saturday will look like. I've
never even covered I guess an award show like that.

Speaker 18 (01:30:33):
Uh, yeah, No, this is my first time covering it.
I had had some colleagues that have covered it in
past years and and kind of spoke with them to
sort of pick their brain and get kind of a
lay of the land. You kind of go uh Friday,
and then they have a bunch of you basically talk
to the finalists. You have three opportunities to talk to

(01:30:54):
them once on Friday, once before the ceremony on Saturday,
and then the winner after the ceremony again on Saturday.
You don't media actually isn't allowed to like see the
ceremony in person. You stay back at the kind of
the media hotel and watch it. It's very limited access.
I mean even the schools and the players are granted

(01:31:15):
just a very you know, small number. It's a very
sort of intimate, sort of small uh.

Speaker 5 (01:31:20):
Setup.

Speaker 18 (01:31:21):
So we'll watch it back at the hotel and kind
of get ready to watch ask the questions to the winner.
I you know, I think Fernando takes it home. But
then that's kind of how how it's all set up.

Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
What would you say now that you're like a gambling guy.
But I'm trying to like equate it to a football game,
like I you, Iowa is what I'm coming back to,
Like Fernando Mendos, is I you about a touchdown favorite
over Diego Pavia?

Speaker 2 (01:31:46):
He would be IOWA in this instance.

Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
Is that kind of how like you're viewing it from
you know, potentially you know, straw polls and all these
you know, voting mechanisms that we're seeing here to protect
the Heisman winner.

Speaker 18 (01:31:57):
Yeah, I mean maybe it's sort of what maybe against
Trump Wildby I get almost everybody at home, they were
sort of favored by more twenty or more. So maybe
it's two touchdown favorites. Mendoza is is probably where I
would equate it. You know, it's come down a little bit.
I mean before it was like right after like the

(01:32:18):
the game was coming to an end, the Ohio State game,
the Big Tenttile game. His odds shot up to minus
five thousand. I think the last time I looked it
was minus twelve hundred. Diego Pavia is kind of the
guy that's kind of lurking. And it's hard to say, obviously,
because it's a.

Speaker 5 (01:32:33):
Big voting Bachum.

Speaker 18 (01:32:34):
I think it's like nine hundred and thirty sixty former
Heisman winners or fifty nine former high the Heisman winners.
They are still live. One fan vote and the rest
are media, and obviously it's media over over the country.
There's some regionality to it, you know. The guys that
you've seen sort of tend to get the more votes
in those areas of the South obviously actually see country,

(01:32:56):
they've seen Diego. Maybe he gets more first place bodes
from them. But I just can't see how the large
majority of voters are gonna, you know, even if they're
not totally familiar with what Fernando did during the season,
that big ten title game.

Speaker 5 (01:33:09):
I think we'll speak loudly.

Speaker 4 (01:33:11):
Michael, I'm sorry, FIU, My mica'shone here in a new studio.
Michael'm sorry, thanks taking the time for us and Michael
Nislick here for the Herald Times covering IU athletics. How
big of a loss is Stephen Daily and just knowing
how much he meant to that D line and that
defense and the uniqueness of the injury.

Speaker 5 (01:33:31):
Yeah, I've been asked.

Speaker 18 (01:33:32):
I got this this the other day, just in terms
of like you know what the impact would be or
do you do you do you worry that you know
they won't have anybody to kind of step in because
I mean they don't have a ton of experience, right,
But I mean I'm at the point where it's Brian Haynes,
this other guy, like I'm not questioning him, you know,
like what he's done. You know, Kayden Turner stepped in
earlier this season the fourth linebackground the team and had

(01:33:53):
an interception against Maryland, right, So it's like this, this
is a defense that has you know, Stephen himself is
kind of a guy that stepped in. You know, it
was splitting time with Kellen Wyatt and then stepped in
and was kind of one of the best defenders in
the country the last six weeks. So it's like, you know,
you don't rule just because of how they've been able
to have that. You know, obviously every coach says next

(01:34:14):
man up philosophy, but i mean, really they've lived it
the last two years, and anytime they've had an injury,
somebody's stepped in, they've still got macalkamara On the other side,
Daniel the Duke Way is probably the guy that's going
to step in uh there at that spot. I just
you know, they they've done such a good job with
anybody that's had to step in sort of an emergency
role all throughout the season. I mean, even DiAngelo Pond's

(01:34:35):
it was a huge game against Iowa, Rolling Gandy stepped in.
U got the job done. And you've just kind of
seen an instance after instance of them having a guy
come in when they've needed him. Will he be as
productive as a stealing Stephen Daly has been the last
six weeks. No, that's that's that's probably setting the bar
too high, but giving them what they need to get
through that game. That's I think where you set where

(01:34:56):
you kind of hope the where you set the mark,
and I think they'll meet it.

Speaker 1 (01:34:59):
Ye as far as we know, we talked earlier about
the big injury and crazy the way it happened. But
who we also keep an eye on, is we get
a week or two here to rest guys up, anybody
else that really needs this time.

Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Yeah, I mean they've had they.

Speaker 18 (01:35:15):
Had a very small injury report going into the Big
ten title game. Brandon Frankie was the only sort of
guy that was like questioned out, but so a guy
that could come back. He's their kickoff specialist. But I
think when you walked around the field after that game,
the toll of facing an Ohio State is kind of
like the physical part of that game. I mean, everybody
in the offensive line was limping, you know, like not

(01:35:36):
obviously not what daily was, but just like beat up
and feeling all the fifty sixty snaps they played. I
think this is another time, you know, we talked about
that off week kind of being well timed before the
Purdue game in the Big Ten title game to sort
of rest up and get guys on the fence that
were kind of you know, dealing with kind of the
season's long worth bumps and bruises. I think this is

(01:35:57):
another chance for them to rest up. Any it is
just not as deep as sort of the high end
teams like Ohio State.

Speaker 5 (01:36:05):
You know that they're just they're.

Speaker 18 (01:36:06):
Just not yet, and so I think this is a
chance for them to rest up and get guys just
said that that felt that Ohio State game, that that
big tentitle game, and just be in a better spot
and I think that that's what they'll they'll use this
and that's why they're taking basically the ten days from
now until they find out who their opponent is and
treating it like an off week rest and recovery.

Speaker 5 (01:36:25):
That's kind of what they're focused on.

Speaker 1 (01:36:27):
Good stuff. Michael Nilik, thanks so much for joining.

Speaker 4 (01:36:30):
Yeah, one more for Michael, because I'm very curious about
the Heisman speech uh that I assume Fan Mendoz will
be giving here shortly over the weekend. When did you
realize that the way he articulates himself is not a
bit because for those who are not used to that
Fernando MENDOZI experience. I know my father was talking about

(01:36:51):
over the weekend. He was like, who is this like
dorky but tough kid, Iu that's doing this thing. How
long did it take you out to realize that he
can again articulate himself that way but still be this
fiery competitor to do on the field.

Speaker 18 (01:37:06):
Well, you know, it's funny, like all quarterbacks have, especially
ones that have had kind of extra experience, kind of
gets to the point where they get very polished, right,
And I guess he's sort of been like a fully
formed media presidence since it starts like he he looks
at the camera no matter like, he doesn't look at you.
He looks at what your can't your devices, So he's
like looking straight at it. Anybody that asks will turn

(01:37:27):
and look at it. And it's very funny, but I
mean it's genuine. It is truly. I've talked to his
parents about this. They kind of laugh. A funny story
kind of. He was asked about the Heisman earlier this
season and he's kind of like, uh, you know, I
don't need that. I just really want a national title.
That'd be great, but I you know, you know, just
that doesn't matter to me as much as as winning
a title. And his mom was like, jeez, he just

(01:37:48):
doesn't have to go that far. He doesn't have to.

Speaker 5 (01:37:51):
Voters weren't listening, Like he doesn't.

Speaker 18 (01:37:53):
He could feel that, but don't say it, Fernando. So like,
that's just who he is. That's just kind of his personality.
He has so much he kind of wants to go
off his chest and spread kind of the credit to
his teammates.

Speaker 5 (01:38:05):
It's just just how he is.

Speaker 18 (01:38:06):
I think you learned pretty quickly that this he was
just a little different cat. You know just how he
was very just you know, humble, but like at the
same time, it's very articulate.

Speaker 5 (01:38:17):
And has so much on his mind.

Speaker 18 (01:38:19):
I mean, that's that business that cow business degree at work.
But he's a very thoughtful kid, and you kind of
appreciate that. Especially as a reporter. I'm somebody that takes
the you know, really takes it to heart. Answering those questions.

Speaker 2 (01:38:30):
Well, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 4 (01:38:32):
He might not brag, but I'll brag for him because
the dude can play.

Speaker 5 (01:38:35):
He can absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
Michael, thanks again, We really appreciate you getting up early
this morning and joining us. You can read his stuff
down at the Harald Times. You can also go online
Herald Times online dot com. Check out his coverage of
Indiana University. What a dream beat all of a sudden, Michael,
what a just a dream beat?

Speaker 5 (01:38:53):
Best team in the country, right, go get it man.

Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
Have fun?

Speaker 5 (01:38:56):
All right, thanks guys anytime.

Speaker 1 (01:38:57):
You bet I say that to reports, to have fun,
because when you're covering a team and they're doing well,
it's easier access to people. Everybody's in a good mood.
They don't duck you as much. There's just it's it's
just a much better environment, isn't it, James. I've always
found it to be.

Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Yeah, for sure, I would think so.

Speaker 1 (01:39:16):
Yeah. In the meantime, Hoosiers, like I said, they have
a chance to watch some football, and there'll be a
key on Alabama Oklahoma. Have you seen them play very
much this year? Seen Oklahoma about a half, maybe one
and a half games, Alabama probably seen twice. Watch them
a little bit in their their championship game against Georgia
where they just didn't look good at all. But have

(01:39:37):
you seen much of them?

Speaker 2 (01:39:38):
Yeah, Oklahoma's offense terrible.

Speaker 3 (01:39:40):
Alabama really struggled as of late, particularly running the football.
I know they've been banged up, so how much will
a little bit of time off help them?

Speaker 2 (01:39:47):
But I expect I.

Speaker 3 (01:39:48):
Haven't looked at, you know, an over under anything like that,
but I would expect this to be a low scoring game.
And again that's kind of the benefit I think of.
You know what opponent you could see for Indiana in
that quarterfinal game. I don't envision a high octane offense. Yeah,
I mean the over unders forty and a half. You
look at the other playoff games fifty one and a
half Miamia and m fifty six and a half two

(01:40:09):
lane Mississippi. Oregon's at fifty so expecting a low scoring
affair and you know, without Stephen Daily, I think you
know that could eight.

Speaker 1 (01:40:18):
I you in that all right? And also coming up
on Sunday afternoon, of course the Seattle Seahawks. How crazy
is We've hardly even spoken about the Seahawks because it's
all been about the integration of you know what, Daniel
Jones being hurt, Philip Rivers, and now we find out
you say that Ryther Leonard practiced fully. So this really
is a statement when you look at what people do

(01:40:39):
and not what they say. They don't like their quarterback situation.
They they wouldn't out and they would not have gone
out and gotten a guy five years removed from the
NFL at the age of forty four with a grand side.

Speaker 3 (01:40:51):
I think Chaine Second felt like you need a juice
and Philip Rivers as an aura. Philip Rivers brings energy,
and I think that's what the Colts are opting for.
I said it earlier. I think if Philip Rivers was
you know, insert your accomplished veteran quarterback here. I used
Matt Ryan as an example. I know, Matt Ryan might
not be.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
The best one because he actually played for the Colts,
but let's imagine he didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:41:13):
I don't know if you were to make such a move,
Like I think the fact that Rivers is who he
is and has a connection to Styken, I mean, that's
I think that's rather obvious to people. But you know,
Philip said it in as press conference yesterday, called his
oldest son, Gunner, the quarterback on the high school team
he coaches, and said, Gunner, here's one of the calls
in the play sheet for Sunday. And Gunner was like,

(01:41:34):
we called that in the semi final game the other night.

Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
You know what, I want to ask so badly? Did
it work? So they lose the semi final game.

Speaker 1 (01:41:43):
They lost the semi final.

Speaker 4 (01:41:45):
That's one factor that people were throwing out there is
like I think they would have maybe just finished up
their season.

Speaker 2 (01:41:51):
Yeah, I think it's like a week and a half
ago was the semifinal game exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:41:54):
But you know how much of that was a factor
in whether or not you take this series a.

Speaker 2 (01:41:59):
High ranked recruit.

Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
For those that you know have not been keeping up
to date with the Christmas card of the River's family,
he is big Christmas car Big Christmas. You might need
an eight and a half by eleven. He is a
very accomplished poster size junior quarterback here. Yeah, like one
of these TV screens we have in here, Mark, So yeah,
you know that's another part of the story.

Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
Seven girls, three boys, and a grandson.

Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
That's the life for Philip Rivers, along with trying not
to get killed by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, who
have not a lot of touchdown in two weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:42:29):
That's just one more aspect of this whole thing.

Speaker 2 (01:42:32):
They're trying to smoke some bird out there in Seattle.

Speaker 1 (01:42:35):
But there's one more thing about this, and you bring
up another level. Can you imagine if this Disney movie
gets pulled off and he has success, it wouldn't have
been Maybe it wouldn't have even been possible had been
playing first A championship this week.

Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
Yeah, I was laying out. I couldn't remember if there
season ended.

Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
It might have been last week like most most.

Speaker 4 (01:42:53):
Yeah, saying I'd also like to date Margot Robbie too,
if that's possible in the sky.

Speaker 1 (01:43:00):
Right now, the idea of Philip River winning a game
in the NFL is a lot higher than your meeting Mars.

Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
Probably it probably is.

Speaker 1 (01:43:09):
Speaks with her as she would Rollerrize and say good luck.

Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
She'd probably say take him off my hands. He's your
problem now.

Speaker 1 (01:43:17):
Ah man, it just the this story just gets you
bring stuff up. It gets juicier and juice here all
the way. See what I did there, Kevin.

Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
Is Philip Rivers? Is savvy vett or is he old?

Speaker 1 (01:43:31):
Can I tell you after the like the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:43:34):
I'm gonna tell you right now. You know how I
feel about this.

Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
And as the guy who I was, I was told
I was called old for the first time in my life.
Going to the jim irse Ymca checked in again thirtieth birthday,
they told me you were no longer a young adult
updated account, You're an adult now.

Speaker 2 (01:43:49):
I was like, oh boy, I'm old.

Speaker 4 (01:43:51):
He's old. He's old. I don't think this will go well,
but I'm here for the theatrics. If he does go well, great.
But if you're asking me right now, do I think
he's the wily old veteran?

Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
No, this ain't the YMCA. Yeah, And I'm gonna sits
the best thing in the world.

Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
I'm gonna say what I said earlier in the show,
and I've said it now several times. To continue the
YMCA analogy, James, he looked like the guy that had
the New Year's resolution of trying to lose weight walking
into the YMCA on January tewod that's what he looked
like yesterday to me.

Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
I mean, not that Philip Rivers has ever been.

Speaker 1 (01:44:24):
Would you say pudgy?

Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Yeah, I would say he's uh, he's Tim Allen trying
to save Christmas.

Speaker 5 (01:44:30):
There you go, I.

Speaker 1 (01:44:31):
Did it again. Oops, you did it again. Mark Dyton,
right there?

Speaker 2 (01:44:35):
What do you think witch again? I bring that up
in all seriousness of where is he at? Cardio wise?

Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
Like what happens if the Colts get on a ten
play two minute drive on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:44:47):
Riding the life cycle for twenty minutes every morning? Let's go, so.

Speaker 6 (01:44:50):
Where a golf cart go from drive to drive?

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
Where is he at in in that environment?

Speaker 3 (01:44:56):
You know it's what gonna be forty five degrees and
probably spitting rain. I mean, that's not ideal ideal football conditions,
I would think for the forty four year old quarterbacks.
So I think these are all questions the Colts have
to seriously weigh. But again right now, Every indication I've
gotten the last twenty four hours is it's gonna be
uncle Phil Grunkle Phil coming up Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:45:15):
Everything, you know, everything you've observed, everything you've watched about,
you know, statistic with the Seahawks and some of the
games that they've played, and watching the Colts all year long,
and now Philip Rivers coming back, Like it's almost impossible
to say, but what do you think is the most
likely Like, what's the line look like at the end
of that game for Philip Rivers? What's the most likely outcome?

Speaker 5 (01:45:35):
There?

Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
Are we talking how many times are they willing to
put in his hands and have him throw it? To
start with? Does he throw the ball twenty five times?

Speaker 5 (01:45:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:45:42):
You know, I know Jack dol brought it up yesterday,
like could they go kind of quick tempo to start
the game and just let Philip, you know, just really
rhythm manage the operation of the line of scrimmage. Now again,
when you say quick tempo, then obviously okay, where's yeah
cardio wise, But you know, sometimes you see quick tempo
and it's simply just hey, let's try and keep the

(01:46:04):
defenses eleven on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
Don't let them sub we'll get the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
And you know, Philip I brought this up a few
weeks ago when the play clock ran out and the
Colts got screwed. Philip Rivers is the king of milk
and the play clock. He wants to get every single
tell and read on an opposing defense.

Speaker 2 (01:46:20):
So again, could you muddle huddle?

Speaker 3 (01:46:22):
You know, Peyton did this a ton and you know,
do the no huddle thing, but obviously you would play
out the whole play clock.

Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Is that something that they try to explore.

Speaker 1 (01:46:33):
Well, we will find out Sunday afternoon. A reminder that
you'll hear all of that game in its entirety on
ninety seven point one Hank FM on Sunday afternoon, because
we'll have a Pacers game during that broadcast window here
at ninety three five and one seven. For everything else
that's happening right here right now, let's check it down.

Speaker 9 (01:46:51):
The morning checkdown on ninety sweet five and one oh
seven five fan.

Speaker 1 (01:46:56):
As I mentioned a month ago, Sunday afternoon, four to
twenty five in Seattle, James Boyd, the Indianapolis Colts still
fighting for their playoff lives. They are eight and five
on the outside looking in currently in the AFC, And
who is the starting quarterback Sunday afternoon for the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 4 (01:47:13):
I gotta find my cane. It's grab hoop Phil graandpap
Philip Rivers. I think we'll be starting that game Sunday
in Seattle, all right, And further injury updates.

Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
We've been talking about Phil and the quarterback situation. It
looked like Riley Leonard was full go yesterday at practice.
What else did we learn about other players?

Speaker 3 (01:47:31):
Yeah, the best news to for is Buckner back to
practice first time in a month.

Speaker 2 (01:47:35):
He was was he limited? James? Yes, Buckner, he was limited?
And then no Sauce Gardner. Right, So no Sauce Gardner,
no Bradon Smith.

Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
Those are probably the two big names on the DNP.

Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
So I just go over everything. We'll see if Buckner
can give it a go.

Speaker 3 (01:47:48):
You know, most times I would say guys that have
missed a month month plus need multiple weeks. But Buckner
is different, and he plays a position you could rotate at,
you know, and only keep him out there for what
like third downs or passport situation. So we'll monitor that.
But as James said, no Sauce Gardner. With Mooney Ward
going on injured reserve, you're down to likely Jalen Jones
and Makai Blackman flanking Kenny Moore the second at corner.

(01:48:11):
And that's going up against the best receiver in football
in Jackson Smith and Jigba. And then offensively, it's the
rare offensive line shake up. That offensive line has been
durable like no other this season. Thirteen games in the
end of the season, they have only needed a sixth
offensive lineman one time. But it's looking like it'll be
rookie Jalen Travis in for the injured Braden Smith. So

(01:48:35):
Philip Rivers potentially dealing with a rookie at right tackle.

Speaker 1 (01:48:38):
All right, keep it tuned for the latest information all day,
all week here at ninety three five one O seven
to five college basketball. Last night, I'm gonna lead with yours, Kevin.
I told you I was gonna be respectful, nice moving
forward after you're gonna say the league score plays for
Notre Dame like Notre Dame eighty sixty five over Idaho.
Four players comfortably in double figures for Notre Dame. Jyaln
Harrilson had twenty points Garrisundra had had a nice he

(01:49:02):
played nineteen minutes as a starter. But the other guys
that get double figures, Carson Tout had nineteen called certa.

Speaker 2 (01:49:09):
No way here Sundro was in double figure.

Speaker 1 (01:49:10):
Right, No, he wasn't. He played nineteen minutes. Brydon Shrewsbury
had twenty nine minutes played in fourteen points, playing really
well from behind the arc four for seven last I
saw like maybe three minutes of highlights last night, and
we're gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
Have to educate you more. On the Irish. You've been
a little, a little sparse to say the least.

Speaker 1 (01:49:27):
Here I yes, some yes, I'm just gonna go there. Meanwhile,
we've got the Indiana Hoosiers off until Saturday, will play
in Lexington against Kentucky. This has not been what Kentucky
fans and Mark Pope certainly have been looking for from
the wildfann or this.

Speaker 3 (01:49:44):
Year, I you sports fan, Fernanda Mendoza wins the Heisman Trophy.
There's five minutes left in the Kentucky game. You watch
Mendoza's speech or are you watching eye U Kentucky?

Speaker 1 (01:49:54):
I think can't you just hold that the game on
your phone?

Speaker 2 (01:49:59):
Goodness Live what are you watching live?

Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
You're make You're gonna watch history. You're gonna watch your
quarterback get a Heisman trophy.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Aren't you imagine saying that, I U Kentucky one possession
game and rot They haven't played since the Watchout anniversary
of the Watchout yesterday, I guess anniversary, or I should
say that haven't played since the Sweet sixteen game in
the Georgia Dome.

Speaker 5 (01:50:18):
Woit.

Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
I was there. That was a great atmosphere. Imagine saying that.

Speaker 1 (01:50:22):
I can't. It's hard to even wrap your brain around.

Speaker 2 (01:50:24):
But yes, Kentucky's been very bad. Their best win this
year is Valpo.

Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
Yeah, it has been tough. NBA Cup Last night, the
Western Conference finals for their entry into the NBA NBA
Cup Game are set as the Thunder went again. They
beat the Suns one thirty eight to eighty nine. They're
just steamroll in the NBA right now. James Like average
margin of victory seventeen points. That's the worst beatdown the
Suns have ever had in franchise history. And they're just

(01:50:51):
doing it night after night after night. They're twenty four
and one.

Speaker 4 (01:50:56):
They're the first team I believe to start twenty four
to one since the seventy three and nine Warriors. That
is remarkable, and I feel like it's honestly not that
talked about. That's how dominant they've been.

Speaker 1 (01:51:08):
Spurs beat the Lakers for the other spot there one
thirty two to one nineteen. So you're final four. Pretty
good this year for the NBA Cup.

Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
Kevin, Yeah, you know, I was thinking back yesterday to
win the Pacers were in that quarterfinal game inside of
Gamebridge Field House against the Celtics a few years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:51:23):
That was an awesome game.

Speaker 3 (01:51:24):
Like we don't talk about regular season NBA games very often,
but Pacer Celtics a couple of Decembers ago inside of
that building. I thought was kind of one of the
big like, oh wow, this young Pacers score might have
something here. That was pre Pascal Siakam. I was still
Buddy Healed and Bruce Brown and some of those Pacers
on that team. So definitely got me thinking about that
Pacers sixers by the way tomorrow and then all of

(01:51:47):
the Wizards on Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (01:51:49):
All right, that's what's happening in the world of sports.
Anything else you want to throw in there other than
do you want to talk Michigan football at all. It's
your own more No.

Speaker 2 (01:51:56):
Really are It's bizarre real quick.

Speaker 4 (01:51:59):
He was detained, well, he was fired at first he
scare from Michigan. They say he is alleged to have
had an inappropriate relationship with the staffer. And then later
on he was detained by the police. So very strange
situation there, and I'm sure more details will come out,
but prayers were all involved.

Speaker 1 (01:52:18):
All right, that's what t happening in the world of sports.
The one the only Jason Hammer stops by for your
other kind of juice, Kevin, You ready for that? Since
that's the word? Man, oh man, oh man, We are
good to go. Brand new studio here. Jason Hammer's already
found the place before his show comes up, Bud. You
guys debut yesterday or today today at the new studio today,

(01:52:38):
So we look.

Speaker 6 (01:52:39):
Forward to a well oiled machine this afternoon with absolutely
no issues whatsoever. At least that's what I've been told
to say by management. I hope it goes well.

Speaker 1 (01:52:48):
Thanks. It's always for being here because we are here.
You're here to help us, help our listeners make money.

Speaker 6 (01:52:54):
Yes, So Thursday nights this is I believe week fifteen,
We're ten and four on the game play, and like
I said last week, last week, the prop bets have
been a train wreck. I've abandoned, I've jumped ship, I've
gotten on the you know, emergency boat to get away
from the Titanic. But in terms of the game itself,
we're ten and four on Thursday nights. Now, I'm gonna

(01:53:16):
need you guys to kind of hold your nose on
this one tonight. Falcons and Bucks. Okay, conventional wisdom says
Bucks are gonna roll these dudes up. It's four and
a half point spread right now, Tampa Bay four and
a half points.

Speaker 1 (01:53:31):
Let's stay below. Well, here's why. Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 6 (01:53:36):
Four straight games of two hundred yards or less through
the air. Now, keep in mind, about a month ago
we were having a debate Who's going to be the MVP,
Jonathan Taylor, Danny Dimes or Baker Mayfield. Life comes at
you fast. Four straight turns from Baker. That Tampa Bay defense,
which is normally pretty good, you know, historically pretty good,

(01:53:57):
they've given up.

Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
Twenty four or more, and four of the last five.

Speaker 6 (01:54:01):
Tampa Bay is zero to five against the spread in
the last five and at Tampa seven wins this year,
five of them have been by three points or less,
so they're not blowing anybody out. And you look at
this Falcons team. I know they stink, but this is
a primetime game. If you're tanking and you're ready to
go to Cancun, there's only a few games you get

(01:54:23):
up for, and prime time games is one one of
the games you get up for, and two where you
can be seen for a new team next year.

Speaker 1 (01:54:31):
Well, they be as excited to play tonight as AL
will be to broadcasting.

Speaker 6 (01:54:36):
AL will let you know what the spread is at
some point, I promise you that.

Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
So Mike Evans back no Drake London and you still
are going Falcons.

Speaker 1 (01:54:44):
I like, yeah, I like the Bucks to night at home.
Give me Atlanta with the points.

Speaker 6 (01:54:47):
I think the Bucks win this thing, but I think
the Falcons hang around. Four and a half is such
a quirky number in gambling, so that basically frall intents
and purposes mean six because nobody wins by five. Hardly
anybody wins by four. Few people do twenty four to twenty.
But four and a half is the number. So give
me Atlanta. It's a glorified six. Divisional matchup. I think

(01:55:11):
it's close, holds your nose and let's pull for the
dog tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:55:15):
I know it's probably not on your list, but what
would you think in his first game back? It's his
favorite target over under for catches for Mike Evans. Do
you think today.

Speaker 6 (01:55:24):
He'll be targeted? I don't have the number in front
of me right now, but he'll get looks. So I
would bet if they're not easing him back into the mix,
which I don't know what their game plan is for
him tonight, I would assume four and a half to five.
That would be my handicap off the top of my

(01:55:45):
head for that, So I'm sorry again. I haven't seen
the actual Vegas number on his props because I gave
up on props because that was so awful at it
this year, Kate Beacon, back me up. Last year we
were a big Harry American winning machine. This year, I know,
Oh when I'm beat, I waved the white flag on
props and we're just focusing on games at this point.

Speaker 4 (01:56:05):
So my question is to further the NFL conversation, have
you looked at this Colts Seahawks game.

Speaker 3 (01:56:12):
I know you have, Oh yeah, oh, the biggest spread
in week fifteen, right, and the possibility of old man
Rivers getting out there.

Speaker 6 (01:56:20):
So remember when Cardale Jones was at Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (01:56:23):
You remember then he said, we.

Speaker 6 (01:56:24):
Didn't come here to play school Philip Rivers, didn't come
here to play on the practice team. He didn't come
here to just hand the ball off the Jonathan Taylor.
That's a big number you'll get at two touchdowns for
the Colts at Seattle. Listen, maybe I've had a few
cocktails this early in the morning. I'm not mad at
taking a look at the Colts with fourteen. Like odds

(01:56:45):
makers are treating the Colts like they're the Titans, like
they're the Raiders here. I mean, this is a decent team.
I know the quarterback situation is a hot mess, but
you've got the best running back in the league. You've
got a decent offensive line, a banged up but okay defense,
You've got a really good tight end, some pretty good receivers.

(01:57:06):
To say, the Titans, it's not the Browns. I'll take
pretty much any NFL team if you're giving me two touchdowns. Man, Like,
take a look at the Colts catching fourteen, and I'm
wondering once they announce who the starter is, whether it's
Riley Leonard or if it's old Man Rivers, if that
line changes at all, But I'm not mad at two
touchdowns at all. The Colts are better than that.

Speaker 2 (01:57:27):
It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (01:57:28):
This line started at three and a half pre Daniel
jones injury, rose to about ten once Jones got hurt,
and now has risen since the Philip Rivers smoke I
think has started.

Speaker 6 (01:57:39):
So do you think Daniel Jones is worth eleven points?

Speaker 1 (01:57:42):
Like?

Speaker 6 (01:57:42):
I like Daniel Jones just like the next guy. But
is there any NFL player that is worth an eleven
point swing in a game like if Patrick Mahomes goes
out like this week, does that line change by eleven points?
That seems a little extreme to me.

Speaker 3 (01:57:56):
Well, the drop is a guy that hasn't played football
in five years, whereas the drop from Homes would be
to Gardner Minshew.

Speaker 6 (01:58:01):
You know, and I keep hearing that he has played
football in five years. Well, you know what Gino Smith
played last week?

Speaker 1 (01:58:06):
And he stinks.

Speaker 6 (01:58:07):
Whoever, the Saints are limping to the finish line with stinks. Whoever,
the Jets are limping to the finish line with stinks.
I don't care if he's been playing, you know, catching
the street with a couple of fat guys. Give me
forty four year old Grandpaul Philip Rivers over some of
these turns in the league.

Speaker 3 (01:58:21):
Right now, the Hammer putting down the hammer, he looked
like Tim Allen walking up to the podium Christmas. Okay,
anything else we don't have obviously caught well. Army Navy
I think is a must watch every year.

Speaker 2 (01:58:32):
I think it's the first half under. We get patritree.
What is the over runner? Thirty eight and a half,
there's Army Navy.

Speaker 14 (01:58:38):
Now.

Speaker 6 (01:58:39):
Last year, like, is that sad that I need? It
was Under most of the game and then there was
a wacky fourth quarter if I remember right.

Speaker 1 (01:58:46):
So we're gonna.

Speaker 6 (01:58:47):
Play it safe this year. First half under. I think
it's nineteen and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
Jason Hammer.

Speaker 3 (01:58:53):
Course, you can hear him every afternoon at WIBC, our
sister station.

Speaker 2 (01:58:56):
That is the Hammer of Nigel.

Speaker 3 (01:58:57):
Show Degenerates next Door the podcast anything else you like.

Speaker 2 (01:59:02):
From a let's make some money this weekend standpoint.

Speaker 6 (01:59:05):
Not this weekend, but the first line of college football
playoff games are on.

Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
Friday, will be Alabama Oklahoma and then we get the
three games on next Saturday.

Speaker 6 (01:59:13):
I think Oregon just beats the absolute breaks off James Madison.
Twenty one and a half, I believe is the number.

Speaker 1 (01:59:21):
Twenty one and a half.

Speaker 6 (01:59:22):
That's not enough. Give me Oregon in that one. I
took a look at Tulane Old Miss, but the coaching
situation is a little quirky.

Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
To me an, Old Miss win by five touchdowns in
a rare season against them.

Speaker 6 (01:59:33):
But with lane kipd God, I mean, I don't know,
uh forty difference Maybe I don't know, he runs up
the score. He's that much of a petty a hole.
James Madison, though, this is like a contest winner. Somebody
was calling number nine and got to be part of
the college football playoff and your reward is going to Eugene.
Give me Oregon. I think they win that game big.

(01:59:55):
I'll lay the twenty one and a half. It's a
big number. But if I'm playing it, I'm laying it.
What are you you think about the one and a
half points spread. Alabama is favored right now against Oklahoma.
Alabama has not looked great in my opinion. Who is Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's got a really good defense and an NFL kicker
as a Tennessee ball fan. Let me tell you about

(02:00:16):
Oklahoma's kicker three point fifty plus yarders in Knoxville to
help beat Tennessee at home in a primetime game this
year in Essen's knocking them out. And while everybody's down
on Alabama, and you guys know this, I feel like
I say this every week. I'm a by low Sell
high guy. I can't see them being this bad multiple
weeks in a row.

Speaker 15 (02:00:36):
Now.

Speaker 6 (02:00:37):
They could be Simpson their quarterback. One week he looks great,
one week he's trash.

Speaker 4 (02:00:42):
What do you mean they have the best offense in
the country. He told us that after they did not
have best offense in the country.

Speaker 1 (02:00:46):
He looked confused for the second half of that game
against Georgia.

Speaker 6 (02:00:50):
Oklahoma's defense is going to come at him. But man,
don't count Bama out on this one. Man, that's gonna
be to me, that's the best game in the first
round by far. I'll take Indiana over the winner of either.

Speaker 1 (02:01:01):
One of those.

Speaker 6 (02:01:02):
But don't sleep on the tide.

Speaker 14 (02:01:03):
Man.

Speaker 6 (02:01:04):
Oklahoma's defense is good, but that offense isn't great. And
if Bama can get anything offensively, we got ourselves a
ball game down there in Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (02:01:13):
All right, I'm glad your card Key works for the
first day in the new building. So that's that's a
positive start.

Speaker 6 (02:01:19):
I say that every day I come to work, Jeff
the car Key works.

Speaker 2 (02:01:22):
I saw a hammer house house on, called a police
and said, who is this man?

Speaker 1 (02:01:25):
You get on the door? Man, give me work, give
me He's wearing a collared shirt, a colored dress shirt, jacket.

Speaker 2 (02:01:30):
He had hit a long night last night. He ain't
at home yet.

Speaker 6 (02:01:33):
I love I show up to work with pants on,
and everybody thinks, what's going on around here?

Speaker 1 (02:01:37):
What's the Christmas party you're going to tonight or last night?
It's tonight?

Speaker 5 (02:01:41):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (02:01:42):
Diamond's direct proud sponsor of the Hammer and Nigel Show.

Speaker 1 (02:01:45):
He says, thanks for stopping by, appreciate it. Thank you guys.
He's the one of the only Jason Hammer of good
stuff always every Thursday. Right here at ninety three five
and one o seven. Final thoughts on what to look
for at the Colts camp. Later on today, Philip Rivers
coming back for a second day of full team workouts
with the Indianapolis Colts. Although he is still get the
icy hot ready baby, still not on the active roster,

(02:02:08):
yet still on a practice squad.

Speaker 2 (02:02:10):
Only merely a formality.

Speaker 1 (02:02:12):
Joe, we'll talk about it next ninety three five. It's
the Fan morning show, The Big Bosses in today. Gotta
love that Ian Lovingston stopping by to see the brand
new studios and see what's going on. It's one of
those things where we're here and up and running. But Kevin,
I don't know if you've noticed the rest of the building.
We're still a little bit under construction outside.

Speaker 2 (02:02:29):
Yeah, bear with us. We appreciate your guys patience on it.
I think the stream is up and running YouTube wise.
I know some people have said.

Speaker 3 (02:02:35):
A couple app issues, but hopefully we'll get all that
figured out here in the next couple of days.

Speaker 2 (02:02:40):
So appreciate everybody sticking with us.

Speaker 4 (02:02:42):
Maybe you got to have my back. I got my
back turned to the door. So if somebody's you know,
I got a lot of haters out here. If somebody's
coming to literally stab me in the back, you gotta
high let you boy.

Speaker 2 (02:02:51):
I got you, I got you. I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (02:02:53):
Eight one two is a texted in new studio. Looks great.
A little dark in there. You might need some more lighting.

Speaker 2 (02:02:57):
Yeah, they gotta bright me up.

Speaker 1 (02:02:59):
You know, I'm a brother, and there will be there
will be things added to the studio as we go
to This is literally our first It.

Speaker 2 (02:03:05):
Was a light right here on the right side.

Speaker 1 (02:03:07):
Make sure you get that nice which is your good
side the YouTube strom all and teeth. We got to
get on your good side.

Speaker 2 (02:03:14):
Jesus man.

Speaker 1 (02:03:17):
I like having the long wide shot. Kevin, I know
about you, Mark.

Speaker 2 (02:03:23):
You care to comment.

Speaker 7 (02:03:24):
I mean, at one point the camera was falling Jeff
around like he was like a suspect or something, so
I know what was going on.

Speaker 2 (02:03:30):
There will show more action. Here is what you're saying
with with Jeff, you brought up Philip Beverson the practice squad.
I think people are a little confused by that.

Speaker 3 (02:03:39):
So James, just keep everybody up to date on NFL
rules and roster mechanics, if you will. Basically each week
around the NFL since COVID really, teams have been able
to promote two players off their.

Speaker 2 (02:03:54):
Practice squad for game days.

Speaker 3 (02:03:57):
The practice squad's expanded to sixteen during the COVID year,
and so, for example, last week, the Colts brought up
Blake Groopie as one of their practice squad call ups.
He was the kicker, and he's allowed to dress on
game day and play. Now, you're only allowed to do
that with each player three times during a season, So
this week they ended up bringing Groupie up to the
fifty three man roster. They obviously had open spots when

(02:04:19):
Daniel Jones was to IR and Mooney.

Speaker 2 (02:04:21):
Ward with IR.

Speaker 3 (02:04:22):
So for Rivers right now, I think the thought is,
let's just make sure the full week goes well again
he feels okay, whatever, he looks competent, and then on
Saturday they can elevate him off the practice squad and
he can start for you in the game even though
he is on the practice squad. Now, if he is

(02:04:43):
going to start the final four games of the season,
at some point they'll have to bring him up to
the fifty three man roster because again you only get
three of those each year for individual players. So hopefully
that clarifies everything from a Rivers practice squad designation standpoint.

Speaker 1 (02:04:57):
I'm curious they put do they activate all three guy
well at least two and one as an emergency quarterback
for Sunday?

Speaker 2 (02:05:03):
Yeah, that would be my guess.

Speaker 13 (02:05:05):
You know.

Speaker 3 (02:05:05):
Right now, Riley Leonard and Brett Rippin are both on
the fifty three man roster. So my assumption for Sunday,
and James feel free to chime in, I would say
the quarterback depth chart is Rivers, Leonard, Brett Rippon Brett
Rippan being the emergency third QB.

Speaker 5 (02:05:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:05:20):
I would also as this to you, James, because I
think it's in a lot of ways just as important
for that defense. What's the status going to be of
Buckner's he Is there a way he can get back
this week or is he just practicing again?

Speaker 2 (02:05:33):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (02:05:33):
We got to see what he looks like today. Honestly,
him limited yesterday. Technically he could play this week, which
would be the earliest that he could have returned from
injury reserve, but neck injuries having to have surgery, I
would assume on that neck, which he showed I believe
it was via Instagram, he flew to Panama to get
stem cell surgery on his neck. I don't know how
that recovery timeline looks. I guess it's a good sign

(02:05:55):
he's back on the practice field, but I wouldn't say
anything definitively just yet.

Speaker 1 (02:06:00):
Big nine of college basketball last night, Kevin Purdue played
and also Notre Dame one. You like this Notre Dame team, though,
what what are they? What are they capable of doing?
This year?

Speaker 2 (02:06:09):
Injury suf Yeah, the Marcus Burton injury is awful.

Speaker 1 (02:06:12):
For how long do we know?

Speaker 2 (02:06:14):
It sounds like it's gonna be multiple months.

Speaker 3 (02:06:16):
So just terrible for him, you know, mister basketball around
the state for anybody that watched him at Penn, I mean,
just a great, great score despite his size, one of
the better players in the ACC. So really tough. A
lot on the play to Jalen Harrison, the five star freshmen.
I think it's played really well here in recent weeks
and he's gonna be needed a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:06:33):
So yeah, their names that nice start of the year.

Speaker 3 (02:06:35):
You know, nothing great, great, but you know they're kind
of on the fringe of NCAA tournament conversation and position
themselves well. But life without Burton, I think is going
to be really difficult. So hopefully they can drum up
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:06:45):
More of what they're able to do against TCU a
couple couple of games ago.

Speaker 1 (02:06:49):
Also, in light of the Shirm Moore situation, I've seen
a couple of articles that you know, who could they target,
and one of the names on several of these these
articles have been Marcus Freeman. He's not going, I ask
you before the show. He's not going anywhere?

Speaker 5 (02:07:03):
Is he?

Speaker 2 (02:07:03):
Why would Marcus Freeman leave Notre Dame for Michigan?

Speaker 1 (02:07:05):
That's my point. I don't I think that, But every
Michigan or Alabama or LSU, they just assume they're going
to go get whoever they want.

Speaker 2 (02:07:14):
Yeah, Marcus Freeman, where did he play collegiately?

Speaker 1 (02:07:16):
Jeff not at Michigan, the Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (02:07:21):
The Ohio State. Man is going to go to Michigan.

Speaker 1 (02:07:24):
How much money were we talking about?

Speaker 3 (02:07:26):
Marcus Freeman will leave Notre Dame for two jobs, one
Ohio State and one and the other of the NFL.

Speaker 5 (02:07:32):
See.

Speaker 1 (02:07:32):
I kind of feel like, and you can't say this.
I do think that he may investigate the NFL at
some point in time, But.

Speaker 5 (02:07:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:07:40):
Once you become the coach of Notre Dame, don't you
just stick around until they kick you out?

Speaker 2 (02:07:44):
Stay away from investigate with how Shroan Moore is twenty
four hours have gone here? That would be my assumption,
That's what I would think.

Speaker 1 (02:07:52):
What do I know though? It's anything else? Final closing
thoughts for you today.

Speaker 4 (02:07:57):
No, I'm excited to see Uncle Phil back out on
the field. Baby, he's on whipper snappers.

Speaker 1 (02:08:03):
That I was done.

Speaker 2 (02:08:04):
They need some might be profen. Coming out of bed
this morning, all I.

Speaker 4 (02:08:08):
Know is if I'm Seattle, I'm thinking to myself, please
put him out there. Please put him out there, because
I'm going shopping for some new things.

Speaker 3 (02:08:18):
Kind of wild you would rather see your option is
a Day three rookie quarterback making his first ever NFL start,
And if you're Seattle, you'd rather see the other guy.

Speaker 4 (02:08:30):
Yeah, you're going shopping for the old guy. You're you're
going shopping saying hmm, and Christmas is coming up. I
need to make all pro I gotta make the Pro Bowl.
That comes to some kind of bonus. I would assume
put the old man out there. I got to pad
the stats, get to the upas.

Speaker 3 (02:08:44):
So Seattle would rather see the other guy than why
don't the Colts play the other guy?

Speaker 2 (02:08:49):
Because one player loves his coach.

Speaker 4 (02:08:54):
I love him is what Philo Rivers told us, and
then the coach also loves him back.

Speaker 2 (02:09:00):
This is love, all right. Love is what powered this.
Because logically I get there's some.

Speaker 4 (02:09:06):
Real football reasons there him on the offense, having previously
played for the Colts, still having played with many of
the guys on this team. But I think a lot
of it is I love this dude. We're super close.
He knows the offense. I'm gonna get my boy a shot.

Speaker 1 (02:09:23):
One other thing I caught out to very late, but
I thought it was interesting. And Cincinnati's not that far away.
There are a few Bengals fans that listen to us
down there. Joe Burrow yesterday very interesting quote. Did you
guys see what he said about his future in the NFL?
He said, quote, If I want to keep doing this,
I have to have fun doing it. I've been through

(02:09:43):
a lot. If it's not fun, then what am I
doing it for? And of course a lot of people
in cincinnatire like, oh, is this gonna be our Andrew
luck moment? If he has one more major kind of injury.

Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
Do they fire Zach Taylor and just let Joe Burrow
pick the head coach?

Speaker 1 (02:09:56):
I would no, he asked the question, and I would.
I thought about that before.

Speaker 2 (02:10:01):
I would think that would be a pretty coveted job.

Speaker 1 (02:10:03):
They haven't. They haven't gone anywhere. Once they made that
AFC Championship game in the Super Bowl, they haven't really
gone anywhere.

Speaker 3 (02:10:10):
Injuries, Yeah, a lot of injuries. Yeah, influenced some of it.
But yeah, those Burrow comments definitely were you know, I
couldn't tell if they were retirement comments or like a
shot at Zach Taylor comments.

Speaker 4 (02:10:22):
I think it was more related to probably to the
injuries and stuff he's been through more than anything, like
you're injured and you stink, So I can't both of those.

Speaker 2 (02:10:31):
So the R word or we're not going there yet.

Speaker 1 (02:10:33):
No, I think he just said I'm not having fun
right now. If it's not fun, why am I doing it?
So I would think, again, a setback, a bad injury,
moving forward, you would think that it'll get healthier at
some point and maybe maybe he comes back healthy and
ready to go and one hundred percent full tank for
energy next year. But I just didn't see that coming.

(02:10:55):
Didn't see that one coming. But all right, so that's
what's going on there. We don't really have game until
the Pacers play the Sixers tomorrow night. We've got Butler
on Saturday. We've got Indiana playing on Saturday as well
at Kentucky and I'm looking forward to seeing does Kentucky
start to get better at any point in time, and
if they do, can we please not do it during
the Indiana.

Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
Game Perdue Marquette also on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:11:18):
Inside of Mackie, Marquette has been terrible this season. Yeah,
I mean the Indiana Kentucky game. You know, Kentucky has
really really struggled to start this season. I mean Gonzaga
beat the absolute breaks off them on a neutral floor
about a week ago, So yeah, it is. I mean,
the Boobirds would be out early if I was able

(02:11:38):
to do something rupt And I think it's really important
for Darren Devreeze's bunch to get something in the non
conference again, Marquette one of their notable wins. They've been terrible,
So like from a resume standpoint, that Marquete win doesn't
look as good as a normal Marqette win would look
like on a neutral floor. Same thing with Kansas State
a little bit. You know, they be Kansas State at home.
You know that game doesn't have a lot of resumes

(02:12:00):
substance to it. So I think it's important for Indiana
to get true road win. The Kentucky win would still
look good on the resume, even though they've struggled.

Speaker 2 (02:12:08):
So I think it's a really important game.

Speaker 1 (02:12:10):
It's always good to beat Kentucky though, right.

Speaker 3 (02:12:11):
I mean, it's obviously the rivalry speaks for itself, but
I think it's important for Indiana to gets something before
Big ten plays starting.

Speaker 4 (02:12:18):
Yeah, so, Lamar Wilkerson, it worked out last time pretty well.

Speaker 1 (02:12:21):
You're also talking about Marquette up next, and then they
finished up some non conference to Auburn after that and
then kent State before going back into Big ten play.
