Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Everyone back together again in studio here at ninety three
five one oh seven five the fan after spending some
time over at Colts Camp and me just trotting the
globe all over the place. Good morning, Kevin Bowen, Good morning,
James Boyd, Good morning, Mark Dicton. It's good to see
when the studio fully clothed.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yeah, it's been a while. I was doing the math.
I'm like, I don't think we've all been in this
exact same studio since like mid June, because Kevin had
his vacation, Jeff had his trek around the world. Now
we're all back after Colts camp.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yeah, what are you taking off? He's just doing some
colts traveling soon, right, James.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, I'll be going to Baltimore next week for the
preseason opener, joint practice, things of that nature. So football
season is upon us. I do want to say, isn't
there a game coming up tomorrow? I believe for the
Hall of Fame game?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
So yeah, it.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Really is here. You call that a game officially? Yes,
you know, in my heart probably not. But at this point, Kevin,
you take what you can get.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
I do think it's bizarre that there's an NFL game
in July. That is very idle. Think I'm sacrilegious.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
And also I would love to be in a board
meeting out in Vegas. By the way, good Wednesday morning, everybody,
thank you for tuning in to the fan morning. Joe
Tyler Warren that scheduled to join us.

Speaker 5 (01:07):
I guess it is Wednesday, not Tuesday, thank.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
You a little bit later Tuesday. But those in Vegas,
they somehow have come up with a betting line for
this game.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
How yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
In what way shape are they literally like being like, well,
Hendon Hooker versus Trey Lance. Let's examine this up on
the whiteboard here. So we have a Detroit minus one
and a half for tomorrow night in Canton, Ohio. Detroit
Lions favored by one and a half over the LA Chargers.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
I think it's more deployed to let's hurry up and
get people back on board. They're ready for the NFL.
We're never going to miss a chance to accept money
from people. I think that's really what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, I mean, the NFL is a money making business.
We saw Bernard Ryman signed for one hundred million dollars
and that doesn't happen without having all of the other
things that go into it with the advertisement of games
that we don't think that matter. And as I tell
you all the time, I'm always a guy who's like, oh,
I won't watch that preseason game. I won't watch a
Thursday night game. I don't really care it's not a
Colt game. And then it's on my TV. So I

(02:04):
am a culprit.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Everybody's mad at me already. I haven't been back twenty
four hours. People already mad at me.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Oh really, it's my fault.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
Some guy pulled a hammy. Yeah, in practice.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
I hope Jalen Jones is all right because he was
in some serious pain yesterday when he went down and James,
that's a guy that had had I thought a couple
of nice days in a row prior to that. He's
in that third cornerback competition. Really the first notable in
practice injury we have seen so far here for the Colts.
So yeah, fell bad for him. He needed some definite
help to get up on that golf cart yesterday before

(02:35):
they did cart him in to the practice field.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
So it was hot.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
It was the longest practice of camp. I thought it
was some amped up physicality, but yeah, it felt bad
for Jalen Jones going down with that, and so that
people are labeling that the Jeff Record curse.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I heard from Will Haskett online, so I wrote him
back with the scene from Talladega Knights.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Don't you put that evil on me? Don't you do it, Ricky?
So I'm not accepting it.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Worry about the Windom Championships this week or Charlie Woods
up in West Lafayette.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Which I think you should still go check that out.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Seven forty e teen off today, so I would have
to leave here.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, don't mean the fact that you know the t
to this is a bit weird.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Now one under part for Charlie Wild yesterday.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
I'll add though that it was disappointing also to not
see Juju Brents out there practicing. He had a hamstring
issue as well yesterday, and he's someone who's obviously been
through a lot with his body and injuries, and so
for someone who's trying to gain traction in that cornerback room,
he took a step back yesterday as well.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
Well.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
We will update you on all those things as camp
goes along. But good news for the players today, guys,
they get a little bit of a break. In fact,
they don't have to be back on the field until
tomorrow evening.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Right yet, tomorrow night under the lights out there in
Graham Park in Westfield. And I do think it'll be
an interesting setup because there are no lights out there currently,
so the Colts will have to bring some in. I'm
curious to see what that looks like exactly. I don't
know if the iPhone lights will work, Kevin, as you
showed us yesterday so eloquently, but it should be fun.
And in Laatu Latu said he's looking forward to it.

(04:03):
And honestly, I wonder if it'll give us a little
bit of like the Friday night vibes because of high
school football and how it feels with the stands right
there next to you, and so maybe that adds a
little bit more juice to it. And I believe this
would be their longest practice yet, Kevin, with two hours
on the duckets.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Everybody brings their car and put their headlights on.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, there you go, there you go. Look it's Brighton's studio.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Our YouTube chat out there. It's like an Encore, you know,
rule off for clips. Your deer cree here we go.
Everybody turn on your lights.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I'll just say this, if you go to the concert,
make sure you're supposed to be with who you're supposed
to be.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Say, here comes cold Player.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
I'm kidding, And we probably should mention, don't we. We
have upgraded brain power from the Dykedon family in the
studio easily well, certainly one of the cutest little girls
I've seen and one of the smartest I have already
talked with her in Norah Dyton in studio.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Mark, Ye, little one is with me today. It's she's
waving everybody good morning. Yes, starts starting a new job
today and unfortunately the and despite the first day of
school for the other two kids, preschool doesn't start told tomorrow,
so there's a little scheduling conflict. So try to go
to the babysitter. She was unavailable. Tried to throw the

(05:10):
hail Mary and ask my parents if they wanted to
come down from Illinois. No, no, go there because my
grandma's got some appointments. So I said, well, guess what,
Norah is gonna have to come to work and she's
gonna hang out. So she's our little helper today. She
has need her to go grab stuff, get a coffee,
to a coffee run. She can do that.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
Let me know, she'll take the car.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
We're all still adjusting from being in a different time zone,
way different time zone, three of the four of the world. Hey,
get four o'clock this Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I got a text from Jeff Ricker at at like
five thirty four, I believe, And I was thinking, this
man wants me to go into the studio and just
square up. I am not God, I'm not up that early.
I'm like, wif's my fuck.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
You'll be asleep when it happened.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Nah.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yeah, I'm a light sleeper actually, but it was. It
was good to know you're back this side of the.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Earth, all right.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
So we're having a good time there. As far as
being out of colts camp yesterday, A felt bad for
the players because it was hot and humid yesterday. Even
at eight o'clock in the morning. I was sitting there
just stewing in my own juices right there. I was
not good Mark.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
But I'm gonna get Nora to cut that.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
I'm wondering though, the reason I our headphones on here
here she comes.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
From the top row boom, the little wwe action like
you guys have at home. But I was wondering if
that played a part in Grover Stewart getting a little
heated yesterday Kevin with the Star running.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
Back all of a sudden, Yeah, Dan Jones, I threw
a little dump off Jonathan Taylor. Grover through Jonathan Taylor
to the ground. Jonathan Taylor then gets up, and honestly,
it reminded me of when I tried to fight my brother,
who's five and a half years older than me, back
in the day. Like Jonathan Taylor, you know, gets right
into Grover Stewart's grill and Grover just looks down on him,

(06:53):
and I'm thinking of myself, this is going absolutely nowhere.
There was no chance in the world that Jonathan Taylor
is all of a sudden going to create some sort
of whatever melee here. I actually thought maybe a few
more Colts offensive linemen could have come to his defense.
Quit Nelson of course, eventually got there, uh to break
it up.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
So yeah, see, I feel like it's easier to say
that Kevin, and he looked at Grover Stewart, You're like, man,
you know, do I really want to get in the
mix up?

Speaker 4 (07:16):
That aren't supposed to be an offensive lineman? Like, aren't
you isn't that supposed to be your job to fin
running back? What's you supposed to happen? And what did happen?

Speaker 3 (07:23):
You saw it. I mean, it's a natural order of
the things you saw. How big that guy is, I
will say jokes aside, he would have got thrown out
of practice and potentially keeped off the team if he
wasn't Grover Stewart. That was crazy. I was a little
surprised that he did that to Jonathan Taylor of all people.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Well again, I mean usually when you have a moment
like that in camp, it gets a little bit testing.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
And honestly, I think the reason why it perhaps didn't
lead to more is because it wasn't a run like
right up through the tackles. It was sort of in
the flat, so he wasn't play. Yeah, he wasn't near
all of his other offensive linemen. So that was a
weird play. And I was just thinking to myself, you
are a very good player and very respected and that's

(08:03):
the only reason you can stand this practice right now,
because if you were not that everyone knows Jonathan Taylor
is like another quarterback. You don't hit him, and obviously
he's very important to this offense.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
The other thing that happened right in front of me too.
Jonaan Taylor was asked about it by Jake Query yesterday
and he's like, hey, he's just ramping it up to
game speed man, that's how it goes.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yeah, he didn't.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
He almost laughed it off. He was like, hey, he was,
he was ramping it up a little bit. I was okay,
everything was fine.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
He didn't.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
He didn't make a big deal about it at all.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
JT always loves to give the company lines. But in
the moment, yeah, I would say he didn't feel that way.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
He didn't react that way.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
And Quintin Nelson was not far behind.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
I give him credit coming to the end of his
running back right there, and nothing really.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
Came of the whole thing. They looked at each other
for I don't know, three four seconds, and then everybody
went back to the huddle.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
I think the old line had a nice couple first
days and pads. You know, typically you will see some
moments with the D line is getting pretty clear sacks
at point here, but you know, you'd probably say it's
the best back to back days these quarterbacks have had
in camp so far, and a big reason of that
is I think they've operated largely from clean pockets. So

(09:12):
you know, the arrow could not have been pointed much
lower for Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones after last week,
and I'd say right now the arrow definitely is pointing
in a much better direction. And again, others around them offensively,
I think have helped them out. We haven't seen anywhere
near the abundance of drops we saw in the first
couple of days of camp, so again, better work from

(09:34):
the offense. Granted the bar was relatively low.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Yeah, but you know, there was a couple of plays
that I thought.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Anthony Richardson made the very end of eleven one to eleven,
scored a touchdown with a really nice pass over the middle.
Thought that was your guy. Riley Leonard completed a really
nice long bomb for a touchdown when he was on
the field for a minute. Daniel Jones showed, for the
most part, the accuracy that has kind of been the hallmark.
The one thing that he does do is throw the
ball pretty accurately. I think he's about it seventy completion percentage, guy,

(10:02):
isn't he?

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Daniel Jones?

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Ah boy, I'd have to look that up.

Speaker 7 (10:05):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
I think that high, but I didn't say it goes
downfield very far. But I think now yah had a
good start, kind of a poor end. That final period
was pretty rough for uh Richardson and the offense there.
And yes, Riley Leonard had the highlight of the day.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
And the completions have been few and far between for
Riley Leonard in camp, so he probably needed that one.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I tell you, the other guy that continues to look good,
it's Tyler Warren.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
We're gonna hear from him later on today. But he
looked good. He made some nice catches. He's just there.
He looks good.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yeah, he's gonna have to be there. And I think
that that's a big step as far as even whether
you start Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones, the tight end
position for the Colts have just not been productive enough
throughout the last few years, since the Jack Doyle days, really,
and so you see some of the catches that Tyler
Warren is able to make, and you think, you know what,
that could certainly make a difference, especially when it comes

(10:54):
to just keeping drives alive and all. Shane Styke has
harped on that a lot this offseason, the consistency and all.
And I'll have to agree with him there. It is
very hard to run an NFL offense when all of
your players are or boom or bust. And so maybe
he can give you some of that, you know, boring
normalcy of moving the chains.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
All right, A lot to do today. We're gonna hear
from Tyler Warren a little bit later on today Stephen
Holder is going to stop by at eight o'clock. We've
got updates on other things happening around the National Football League.
And finally, maybe I don't know if there's a resolution,
but at least a way forward for Trey Hendrickson for
the folks down in Cincinnati.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Lot's going on.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
We'll tell you all about it next this we continue
ninety three five and one to seven five the fan.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
All right, Lot's going on.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
The Indianapolis Colts have the day off today before they
show back up to a Grand Park tomorrow evening for
an eight PM.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
I don't know what would you call it scrimmage practice
and bab's practice. What would you label it, James Boyd.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
I don't know, something along the high school lines. I
would just call it a preps practice because that's what
it reminds me of.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Situational scrimmage, is what I've been telling, right, So we'll
see what exactly that means. I think literation again, Well,
put the team into some of the So yeah, I
don't think it's going to be outright, you know, Blue
versus White. Here we go opposite sidelines, but I do
think you'll get a little bit of a different, you know,
feel to it than just kind of a normal practice.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
A stiching situational scrimmage. There's your alliteration, James.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Yeah, honestly, the last time I was out there that
late was the Jades he trade the man, Kevin say Man.
Let's hope that there is nothing of that sort tomorrow night.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
All right. We did have some minor injuries.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
We hope there minor anyway, Jaylen Jones leaving the field
with what is being reported as a hamstring injury, but
he was in a lot of pain. They putting it up,
putting him on a cart.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah, disappointing for him, disappointing for Juju Brents also to
have a groin injury in not practice yesterday. So those
two guys are a little bit banged up. And yeah,
Jalen looked like he was in a lot of pain,
so that's something to keep in mind. Other injuries. Of
notes from practice is all from Shane Steichen. Cornerback David
Long had a growing injury, Linebacker camra Groan had a
quad injury, running back Salvin i Met had a back injury,

(12:57):
and then wide receiver Michael Pittman Junior had a growin injury.
So I'm getting this, I believe right. Growing kind of
taped up after practice, so we'll see. He didn't seem
like he was overly concerned about it, but again, we'll
see if they need some extra time before tomorrow's night practice.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
All right, to meanwhile, it's like Trey Hendrickson is reporting
the camp for the Cincinnati Bengals. He has been a
long subject of discussion this past offseason for Woody or
won't he re sign with the Cincinnati Bengals. Is this
a good step forward and they'll get things resolved, or
does it end up going right back to where it started.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
I think this is possibly a hold in. I mean,
when you hold out, you got to pay something crazy
like fifty thousand dollars a day for every day you miss.
I forget what the exact number is. But I had
to go through all the CBA findings. When Jonathan Taylor
was going through his thing and people were asking why
he was showing up, it's because he's under contract. When
you're under contract, they can find you, they can take
your money away, and it escalates too. So him returning

(13:49):
doesn't mean, in my opinion, that he's just silly gonna
play right away for the Bengals or jump back into practice,
But financially, it's probably smart to get back to home base.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
All right, as far as the WNBA is concerned. The
Phoenix Mercury are in town tonight to take on the
Indiana Fever. That one starts at seven o'clock and Kevin
Bow And we still don't think we're gonna see Caitlin
Clark in this basketball game.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
No will not. She has been ruled out. But boy,
there are some making some some fireworks tonight. I mean,
we'll see how the fever reacted to Wanabona returning to
play the team that she played for what two months ago,
and Sophie Conyningham also facing her former team. I don't
think maybe the ill will is necessarily there, but who knows,
you never know how it'll react. First time we've seen

(14:28):
these two teams meet this season, the Mercury are a
notable favorite four and a half points in this one.
So after this, the Fever will head on the road
for I believe it's five straight, their longest road trip
of the season.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
Again, that one starts at seven o'clock. Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Yesterday, the Los Angeles Dodgers with a one run win
over the Cincinnati red Yesterday, the Chicago Cubs drop one
in Milwaukee. Nine to three was the final score there.
Miami Marlin shut out the Cardinals.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
By a score of five. Nothing.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
So between Kevin, you and I and Mark and all
those Cardinals fans out there, Alex, nobody had a good
day yesterday.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Baseball doesn't exist right now now refreshment memory.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
You are a fan of the Rockies.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
I try to be.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
I want to be.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
They make it really hard, but I've been a lifelong
fan of the Reds. That was my first Major League
Baseball game. I did not know that, my true story.
I was a little kid. It was the fifth what
was it? It was an anniversary of the old Riverfront Stadium.
I want to say it was the fifth anniversary of
Riverfront Stadium and Johnny Bench hit a two run home
run in the bottom of the twelfth to win it,
making me a Johnny Bench fan for the rest.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Of some of that last night, they could have used
some bullpen preserving that four to two lead. I left
the bases loaded. I think it was in the fifth.
Maybe it was over at that point. So yeah, market's
Joey Erickson's world and we're just, I guess sadly happy
to live in it.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Well, you know that Jefferson Reds fan, He's described Elie.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
De beautiful only was it long? Only was it long?
But it was deep and why people excited.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
Now Nora Zier must have Dock Steffan's she's starting going back.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
To sleep, not we bored her to Tiers. In one
segment She's like, I want to go back to sleep,
and like, you did have an early wake up, so
you can go back to if you want.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
It is Apples Indians beat the Cubs last night, Iowa Cubs.
That is five to three on the road. Those two play.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
An afternoon game today at one o'clock, just after one o'clock.
Anything else you want to throw in before we move
along here we.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Will play a football game. As James Wood said tomorrow
night in Canton, it is the Chargers, It's the Lions,
the Hall of Fame game. As crazy as it sounds.
The Colts will play their preseason opener a week from tomorrow,
so can just remind people at Grand Park tomorrow night
of practice, Saturday Sunday mornings in Westfield ten am to
right around at the eleven fifteen eleven thirty those two days,

(16:43):
and then they're in Baltimore for about a handful of days.
They only have one joint practice in one preseason game,
but with travel and everything, there will be nothing at
Grand Park Monday through Friday next week. So for people
that have not been out there yet or looking to
get out there, there's a little bit of a schedule
look for you all.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
And if you guys want to find out more details
on how things are going with the Colts, you can
go to one on seven five thefan dot com read
all the stuff that Kevin Bone is putting out there,
or you can go to the Athletic and see what
James Boyd is up to. We elso I saw you're
a compatriot. Zach Kiefer was out at practice yesterday He
wrote a nice piece on the situation with Anthony richardson
starting off this season.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Yeah, be sure to check that out. Some new words
from Chris ballad in a whole situation. And obviously Chris
Ballat wants it to work out, because if it works out,
it could mean him obviously keeping his job. If it
doesn't work out, I don't know how safe he will be.
And honestly that goes for probably the holy trinity when
it comes to the quarterback, the GM and the head coach.
A lot could change after the season if they missed

(17:40):
the playoffs again.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
All right, coming up in a moment more on the
Colts and what they've done so far, what they need
to get done in the next week or so. We'll
hear from Tyler Warren a little bit later on today. Also,
Stephenholder is going to stop by at the top of
the hour, eight o'clock. It's all straight ahead. It's ninety
three five and one on seven five. Even at eight
o'clock in the morning, I was sitting there just stewing
in my own juices.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Good morning, you're just joining us. I know a lot
of people already.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
I saw a school bus yesterday making the round school
just seems to get earlier and earlier every year. So
I know some people are out on the road already
getting the practice stuff.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
First day for my kids.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Yeah, man, they're practicing getting kids on and off the
bus too. It was crazy and you your kids are
already there right today.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
First day.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
I got one going back.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Next Thursday, another one going on the Monday before that.
And that used to be when I was a kid
growing up. James school started the day after Labor Day
and then you got out like the first week of June.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
So what grades are your sons going into?

Speaker 5 (18:35):
Junior and senior?

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Okay, so Grant's going into his junior year.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, Grant, Grant drove. I was in the car, but
he drove to his own dogs appoint me yesterday.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
How about that, gran Ge, You a boy, a call man.
We got some joy riding to do. It's still summer
around here.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
He's got a lot of hours he still got to
get done. So maybe I'll employ.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
I'm telling him he got places to go, people to see.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Kevin, you need to be driven somewhere. Let me know
and we'll send Grant over.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Well, I believe Tyler. We'll share a little story about
having to be the show for for a Colts player
when we played that interview upcoming, right.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
Everybody's just here to help. That's it, right, just gonna
if we're just here to help.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
That's how some people would probably enjoy, you know, all
of a sudden, the uber being you're Tyler Warren. You're
number eighty four for the Colts, So thank you.

Speaker 5 (19:16):
Uh you know, it was.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
At his first practice I had a chance to see
for the Colts yesterday because I'd been gone. I thought
that both offense and defense, James Boyd kind of gave
a little, got a little yesterday.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
It wasn't too bad.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yeah, I mean I had a chance to really I
sat down next to coach Venturi, longtime NFL coach, and
he tells me about his one year in the CFL
as well. Got to count that and also now the
radio analysts for the Colts. So I spent a lot
of time with him yesterday, breaking down the game and
seeing what he saw through a coach's eyes, from the
quarterback play to the defense, and sharing his thoughts. I

(19:49):
only here on the air with us yesterday, but also
on this piece I have coming out with the Athletic
but from the players that I really did see. I
mentioned all that because I didn't watch practice as I
normally would, but I did think that overall, both quarterbacks
continue to look a little better in pads and they
had looked without them, and that is a promising sign.
I mean, I can't sit up here and say that
both quarterbacks yesterday were you know, Patrick Mahomes esque or

(20:13):
Peyton Manning with a ball never touched the ground. However,
for what we saw Kevin the first week of training camp,
this is certainly a different looking quarterback room now. I
don't want to get to ahead of myself and act
like it's going to change everything, but you want to
see progress, and I think progress has been made.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
Yeah, I would agree with that obviously. You know, we
could throw in the caveat of everything we say should
be met with it's still July. Yeh fair. You know, Honestly,
the Richardson stuff, I've tried my best to explain. I
do see differences, you know, I've tried to make poor analogies.
I'm sure they have been over the past handful of

(20:52):
shows of like, no, he's at least showing up the class,
He's at least doing things yesterday, Once again I did
not see wild and accurate on the underneath routes that
have plagued him throughout his career. So there continues to
be differences in a positive direction for him. Now, you
know when things get real, And you might say things

(21:13):
get real on Tuesday with Baltimore in the joint practice.
You might say things get real week from Thursday in
the preseason opener. Maybe you gotta wait all the way
till the regular season gets here on September seventh. Do
you revert to your old self? That would be probably
the biggest question I would have with Richardson. And then
if we want to take a step further, even if
this side of him trends down a positive path, you

(21:38):
still have the age old question with him of his health,
and that obviously is the hardest one to answer and
the one that has clearly plagued him a ton in
his two seasons. But yes, these last two days with
full pads on, I would say the quarterback battle looks
much more competent, And I didn't think the first couple
of days of camp and look competent at all. And
if you want to stretch it back, we're now at
kind of three of four good days one they both

(22:01):
either are like good or bad. Yeah, like neither of
them have been at one into the spectrum or the
other in an individual practice. They both have kind of
followed the same script here early on. Again, I thought
the defense had a really strong end to practice. They
really stifled Richardson in one offensive period there late, But
you know, largely I thought the quarterbacks had a nice
day yesterday.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
As far as field goal kickers are concerned, we're just
kind of slogging through this for a couple of weeks.
Did you see anything yesterday where anybody starts to get separations.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
It feels like Spencer Strader had the lead going into yesterday,
But I ain't seething remarkable one way or the other.
Did you.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
I think, based off of what Brian Mason said, I
would agree with that Spencer's Trader is in the lead.
He mentioned some of the situational stuff that they went
through with the kickers and how Maddicks his first day
out there kind of struggled a bit, and perhaps some
of that was just nerves and being an undrafted rookie.
But that's about it from that front. I mean, it's going,
it's about it, how it would expect it to go
Spencer Trader. They signed into a two year deal, They

(22:58):
are familiar with him from last year. He did make
all five of his field goal attempts for what's that?

Speaker 5 (23:02):
For?

Speaker 3 (23:02):
What that is worth? Last year? Now that are the
very small sample size. He did not kick anything, or
make anything, or even attempt anything beyond fifty yards last year.
And so my biggest thing is you got rid of
mad Gay because he cost too much to be kicking
the way he was and not have the efficiency. However,
he did not miss inside fifty last year. So when

(23:23):
you bring in Spencer Schrader, the expectation in my mind
would be that he's gonna make some of those fifty
yard kicks. And so that seeing him miss some moos
early on was a little bit difficult, but he bounced
back pretty well.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Anything else that struck here yesterday that was odd different
stuck out to you.

Speaker 6 (23:39):
Well.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
I mean again, it was the longest practice of camp.
It was probably the hottest day of camp, I thought,
and I would say this about Monday's practice too. You
know it's full pads, so now you look at the
offensive defensive lines a little bit more. I would I
think it's fair to say the old line is won
that battle here through the first couple of days. You know,
it's I think it's really hard to really get in
the weeds about the run game, but you know, I

(24:01):
think the run game is favorite the offense more than
the defense. So we'll see exactly how that continues to
play out. And this is kind of an under the
radar guy, but I would say arguably the best offensive
player through six days of camp has been Anthony Gould.
And for those unfamiliar with who he is, he was
a fifth round pick out of Oregon State last year.

(24:23):
Was your initial return man last year, actually lost that
job early in the season. We really never saw him
used offensively last year, but I was looking at both quarterbacks.
I believe Gould has caught the most passes of any
player in camp so far. I think he's just a
hair above Michael Pittman Junior. In the eleven on eleven practice.
We did see Pittman go down late in practice with

(24:43):
the groin injury, so we'll see about that availability. So
I don't know, James how Anthony Gould factors into like
consistent playing time offensively, He's Josh Downs' backup for those
that are kind of curious where he'd fall in the
pecking order, but for those that have been out at
Grand Park are going there. Number six has been very
very consistent, elite return guy out of Oregon State. But

(25:04):
I would say he's shown a little bit more offensively.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Yeah, and anymore, you have to be really good as
a punk return because kick returners, they the NFL almost
doesn't want kick returns.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Yeah. Going back to your point, Kevin, about Anthony Gould,
I think he's shown the ability and I think we've
talked about this. He looks like a receiver, and I
think a lot of the action that we saw last
year or the year before, you know, a lot of
it had to do with him being the deep threat
or just the return guy. Now we're seeing some of

(25:35):
the intermediate stuff him of the stuff in the flat,
which I think, you know, gives him a little more
diversity in that slot position. So he's having a very
good camp so far. And also as much as I
criticized the guy, I will give credit what credit is due.
I thought Ady Mitchell had a pretty good day yesterday
in the team periods, particularly there was one seven on
seven where it was taking you know, Daniel Jones, Ady

(25:56):
Mitchell money. He had the deep ball down the sideline.
He had another one where he just I mean, he
can get open with the best of them, and his
route running, his agility, spacial awareness, all that is there,
which makes him such a confusing player sometimes because it's
like everything but the finish. You know, I can hear

(26:16):
my dad telling me growing up playing basketball. You know
you got the sauce, Yeah, you got one hundred dollars,
move with the ten cent finish at the rim, like
you get all you get the crossover, you get get
by your guy and you smoke the layup. And I
feel like sometimes he just can't finish the play. But man,
when he does finish plays you saw yesterday. Now, the
question is with Adie Mitchell a lot of the time.

(26:36):
I thought last year was can you finish the play
when you know you might you're probably gonna get hit.
That's a big question for him. I think he has
to answer. But a step in the right direction for him,
and man, he he has all the physical gifts to
be special.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
But I cannot wait one day in the driveway to
say to Max Bowen one hundred dollars finish ten, one
hundred dollars.

Speaker 5 (26:58):
Move.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
Let me get it right, ten finish and say the
old philosopher mister Boyd taught me.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
He's got a few.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
I thought, when you say it, though, well, we'll see
how saucy he is with both the move and the
absolute brick on the on the finish there, I thought.
Jim Bob Cooter, the offensive coordinator, kind of an interesting
comment in regards to Mitchell yesterday, James. He said something
to the effect of, like, we're trying to put him
into some bigger situations, and I want to go back

(27:26):
to Monday's practice. Monday's practice he to quote the Boyds
Habachi Javerius Ward and back to back one on one reps. Again,
that was your fourth string white out going against your
number one corner. Let's go to tomorrow night. Tomorrow night.
Michael Pittman JUNR. We saw Hurd his growing late in
practice yesterday. I mean, I think the general thought is

(27:46):
when a player of Pittman's ilk certainly gets injured in
a practice, you probably won't see him in the next practice.
Tomorrow night could be a wonderful opportunity for Mitchell.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Did he more?

Speaker 4 (27:58):
First team run, schavarious ward match ships, those sorts of things.
So clearly they are trying to light the fire under
him a little bit more. And yeah, I would say
maybe the eleven on eleven reps. I haven't shown a
ton of production here the last couple of days. But
you brought up the seven on seven again, the one
on ones on Monday, which you know really is his

(28:18):
forte Frankly, Uh, it has been better from Ady Mitchell.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
All right, we'll talk a little bit more about the cults.
I have a specific question for you guys. There's there's always.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
A part of a team in every NFL camp. I
ever knew that just gets disrespected and I don't understand
why that is. And I want to get your guys
opinions on that, and I'll talk about it and ask
you the question next as we continue in ninety three
five and one seven five, the.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
Fan those are long, set long.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
This is you know what it is because I reverse
hours a couple of years ago for seven and eight o'clock.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
I got caught up in the eight o'clock hour. I apologize.
It's my first day back from vacation. Thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Second more minutes roll start question. Nothing.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
I'll just ask you the question now, will how come
every time every time the offense makes a great play,
they get a huge ovation from the crowd. The defense
makes nice play and they get like a little ooh,
why is that?

Speaker 5 (29:15):
Why does no one love the defense?

Speaker 4 (29:16):
James Boyd Because in fantasy football, you rotate your defense.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
And probably, I mean a lot of it is just
tailored towards what you can understand. I think it's easier
to understand a big play and everyone gets hyped up
for the long passes. And then I think also too,
this isn't a setting where you trust your quarterbacks. So
if someone makes a play on let's say Patrick Mahomes

(29:41):
and he's a rookie cornerback or rookie safety, he's gonna
get more love because no one's worried about the quarterback play.
They're like, well, you know what to get your hand
on that pass or to make that play, they have
to be, you know, doing the right things to beat
our guy. You know, one of the top quarterbacks in
the league. Not the same in Grand Park. A lot
of it has to do with, oh my gosh, they

(30:03):
broke up a pass. None of our quarterbacks can do
anything right, So I mean that's part of the stress
when it comes to crowds. But I mean, honestly, the
NFL and really all sports, I would think would always
like a little bit more offense because action, you know,
just gets people more involved.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
I just know that people get disappointed if a guy
makes a break up in the end zone.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Guy makes a great play, comes over defensively, stretches out,
knocks the ball away, and people.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Are like, oh no, we didn't complete that play. Defense
never gets low. So I've just noticed that everywhere I've
ever been.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Was that your Shane Steichen repping there? Kind of a
sudden change situation? Jeff record was he wanted a sudden
change on our feet.

Speaker 8 (30:39):
There.

Speaker 6 (30:39):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
That's what I was trying.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Can I give a shout out to listener Brad James
and Jeff I don't know if you saw him yesterday
he was a post up on the fence with that
Florida Gator. Oh yeah, yeah, cut off yesterday I looked
over there. Ken gates open up at Colts came at
nine for these ten am start times. I want to
say they open up maybe a little bit earlier tomorrow night,
So double check that with the eight pm start time
if you're taking the kids out there, Colt City is

(31:02):
a great spot. And he had the coldest looking blue
Power Aid I've ever seen, and I mean my mouth
was watering. I mean I thought to myself, that thing
looks immaculate. I want that thing, just mark, go ahead
and clip it out. I mean, that just looks beautiful.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
And so this is.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
After you told us you would, you know, if you
won the lottery or something like that, or sign a
huge contract beyond the basics, you would get a Blue
Power aide.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Was seeing your own really had a Blue Power Aid
yesterday because you said that.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
So thank you, I mean again, we talked about this
on Monday when Bernard Ryman signed there maybe it was
Rashaan Slater signed a nice extension.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
You know.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
James asked the question, you know, what would you do
with that money, and I said, the man Cave would.

Speaker 5 (31:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
Sure, you got you know, stock beer fridge, you know,
a nice little whiskey bar, et cetera, et cetera. But
also I need the Blue Power Aid, you know, soft
drink machine if you will, for lack of a better term,
uh in there and Brad flags me over after the
show ends yesterday, and he goes, I bought this for
you the concession stand. Oh, Brad, thank you. Unbelievable human.

(32:05):
I mean I gulped that thing down. I mean it
was below the label in you know, three seconds. So Brad,
thank you for that. It's lukewarm after practice, it's still
felt good. I put in the shade during practice, came over,
finished it off for Tyler. Warren came up to the
table for our interview. So Brad, thank you for that.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
I did not see I missed that. But again, location, location, location, Right.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
It's a really hot day.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
We're all sitting there and you saw just what you
needed to see in that moment, and then someone delivered
it to you. It's as good as it gets.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
And I'm picturing Happy Gilmore's Dreams of Virginia with you
know two you know, huge beers, and you know that
was my dream.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
Did you watch Happy Gilmore too? Yet? I did.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
I was a little underwhelmed, I I I there were
some moments where I laughed. Certainly. I thought Scotti Scheffler
was actually really good.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
I told you Scotty Scheffler stole the show.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
Yeah, I thought he was really good. I mean I I,
you know, daily and you know, there are a lot
of you know, individual acts that I did laugh at,
but I probably just needed to walk in the X
the whole time I watched it, Mark, I wanted to
watch the first one, huh, like that that was my
general thought. They kept under the flashbacks. I'm like, I
really just want to watch the first one again. Sequels

(33:19):
to comedies I think are borderline impossible. Like I think
a lot of people think sequels in general are really
hard from a movie standpoint, but sequels to comedies, and.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
They did two more Hangover movies, which is kind of crazy,
and yeah, American Pie sequels, I.

Speaker 4 (33:34):
Think it's really difficult. So yeah, I mean, obviously, I'm
a golf nerd, so I thought it was you know,
cool to see all of them involved.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
The amount of golfers that are in that movie are
just insane. I keep causing the screen like, Okay, who's that?
There's that over there?

Speaker 4 (33:45):
And by the way, if you really want to get
into the weeds with Happy Gilmore two and kind of
the whole behind the scenes, Mark, have you watched Full
Swing yet? Like the Netflix, I watched.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
The first season. We need to catch up.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
So this is like the behind the scenes of PJ Tour.
I watched episode one last night. They actually go behind
the scenes of the Happy Gilmore taping. Oh a little bit,
so yeah, so you can get a little bit more
into that, and it was funny. At one point, Ben
Steller comes up to Justin Thomasin's like, I'm a huge
full swing fan, and Justin Thomas like, Oh, there's the
camera right there.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (34:16):
Have a funny moment. That my favorite part so far.
I don't know if you guys saw this. On The
Rich Eisen Show, he had.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Christopher McDonald shooter McGavin, and he was telling some great
stories about when that thing was being filmed, and he says,
people to this day come up to him and give
him grief or blow on the pistols or whatever. Rest
of his life, no matter what he's done, he is
shooting mcalvin and he was okay with it.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
It's a great character, awesome character.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
I will say, I'm always skeptical of watching any Like
sequels years after the fact because I don't want to
like ruin my experience with the first movie. And I
don't know if that that's how you all felt or
didn't feel, but I'm always a little skeptical. So now
that you've talked about a little bit, I might tap
in and check it out. But I'm like happy Gilmour
is such like a It's kind of like a classic

(35:03):
movie to me to this point. So I'm like, man,
do I want.

Speaker 5 (35:06):
To screw it up?

Speaker 6 (35:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (35:07):
Do I want to ruin my innocence with this?

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Don't meet your heroes?

Speaker 1 (35:11):
That's kind of what I'm getting in. That's why I'm
not driving.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Up the Loafiette to see Tiger Woods. Watch Charlie Woods
play golf r No Tiger appearance yesterday at Ackerman Allen
Golf Course, a security guard wars with Charlie's group. Sounded
like a couple hundred people watching that. I really hope
that kid. What Charlie Woods in Arch Manning? I don't know,
Probably Charlie Woods more than Arch Manning, right, because Arch's
dad is not Peyton.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Here's the thing, though, I don't know that Manning last
name though, like in playing cornball.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
But like I guess in America, I don't know. In
football you can hide a little bit more like just
because it's team. Yeah, I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Here's the trust.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
I don't want to compare golf popularity to football popularity,
but boy, Charlie Woods, there's going to be so much
pressure on them.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
And what a tough spot to be in as a father,
because if you're Tiger Woods and you go watch your
son play, which we all want to do, do you
distract from what Charlie's doing because her Tiger Woods and
there's such an uproar around you know where.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
It sounds like he has watched, you know, fairly good
amount of tournaments that I want to act like this
is some you know, distant parent there, but I don't know.
Maybe he didn't. I wonder if you want to see
the West Lafayette scene.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
I could also see. I know that my wife and
I have done this when we've been traveling. We just
broadcast thing live to each other over FaceTime. Maybe somebody
does that for him.

Speaker 4 (36:24):
Boy, oh, Droana, five hours on the golf course, you
better have a great battery.

Speaker 5 (36:28):
In you know what, put it up your big screen.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
I thought about this, and this is maybe just me
speaking as the person without kids. I only there's enough
love in the world for me to maybe hold an
iPad up for the entire AU game. Or high school game.
I see it all the time and out to the
parents who do it.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
Love you.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
My parents would never maybe because I just wasn't that good.
That's part of it. But man, the amount of iPads
and phones I see that get recorded at these games.
I'm like, if I'm not paying to see you in person,
just let me know when you come home how it went.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
I mean, like recording a concert or the Fourth of July.
These fireworks, some fireworks on your phone.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Do you just rotate the parent, like you get one
parent a game like that's part of signing up for
the team, trying to both and everybody joins that call.
So like, if somebody's got parents on the FaceTime, they
can't be at the game.

Speaker 5 (37:14):
Something there watching it.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
I mean, because you know, I want to watch my
kid play stuff, and I might be on the road
doing a game or something like that, and I just
wanted to see a little bit of my sunplaying.

Speaker 5 (37:22):
Ball whatever it was. But yeah, it would be tough.
I don't know if I could sit there though.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Like a couple of moments it's cool, but if I like, man,
I got to hold this one the entire game, and
like Kevin said, my my battery juice ain't that good.
So I do want to pivot a bit. Though we
had Zach Keifer put out this piece involving Anthony Richardson
and Chris Ballard earlier today. You can check that out
after the show. But one of the quotes in here
from Ballard towards the end and after Zach has kind

(37:51):
of laid out the lay of the land, which we
all know. It's sort of a do or die season
for Anthony Richardson, whether they admit it or not, and
a lot of people's jobs are on the line depending
on how he'll play. And Chris Ballard says, do you
have the courage to say the path when things aren't
going right and believe that we're gonna come out of
this thing on the other end in a good way.

(38:12):
If it doesn't work, I might get my a fire,
but I'm willing to live with that because it's the
right thing to do.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
So what he said in that piece is that he's
willing to wait and be patient with Anthony.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
So then my follow up, Kevin, does he have enough time?
Like I understand what he's saying, and it's the I
believe the only quarterback he's drafted in the first round
during his tenure, which honestly, most gems don't get the
opportunity to draft multiple But this clinging to Anthony Richardson,

(38:48):
how real is it? And does he have enough time?
Because I understand you wanted to succeed, but you also
brought in Daniel Jones. We also know Anthony Richardson's injury,
and we also know that this season is a very
big one. No matter how much everyone tries to downplay it.

(39:08):
If you don't make the playoffs, who say you're gonna
be back? The guy who compared to Michael Jordan isn't
here anymore? So what does that mean for your future?
If Anthony just doesn't figure it out? Not from a
leadership standpoint or character standpoint, I think that from that
part perhaps he's grown. But at the bottom line, man,
you could be a great leader, great human, But if

(39:30):
you can't play, that means that whoever drafted you most
likely will not be there. So I'm just very curious
about your thoughts on that statement.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
Yeah, it almost seems like James and I don't want
to overread either party Chris Pollard or Shane Sykin too
too much here, but it almost seems like Chris Pollard
is much more content and on however you want to
describe it, Anthony and Richardson starting for a third straight year,
whereas Shane Syken's a little bit more open minded to
Daniel Jones and like, I don't think it's that black

(40:03):
and white, right, but I think there is a belief
from Shane Stykeen of like, if we can just get
some dude that again keeps the ship afloat, simply like
if we can just get that at quarterback, we can
make it work. Whereas Ballard's a little bit more on
the hey, you know again he throws out the analogies
that I don't think her Apple staffles at all, but

(40:23):
the Baker Mayfield's and the Sam Darnolds of the world.
And he's a little bit more on that side of
the fence. And then when I say that out loud,
I think to myself, how does carly Er say Gordon
view it all?

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Does she view.

Speaker 4 (40:36):
The three parties all tied together Ballard syching Richardson or
does she not? Or does she say, hey, just figure
it out and eight whoop do you do? That's exactly
what we need, like we need we think in a
somewhat positive sort of direction here.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
So because this is my next thing, when does self
preservation kick in?

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Like?

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Is he It sounds like he's willing to roll with
Anthony Richard until death do us part, basically, but at
some point I would think, hey, if this other guy
is available, wasn't the biggest thing is availability? He's exiting
this is this sichens call? That's a good question. He
probably follow up, and then I would think he's gonna

(41:17):
tell us that good.

Speaker 4 (41:18):
It's year nine for Ballot, it's year three for Stiking.
It's just it is a weird time to be a
Colts fan. I know I've said that phrase before, and
I believe that, and I will also say I also
think that when you draft Anthew Richson fourth overall, you
have to say to yourself, we need to give him
his first healthy offseason. Well, the healthy off season just happened,

(41:41):
so like you've got to at least get to that point.
And again, the financial ramifications of richardson, none of that
is kicked in yet. The first big one will kick
in after this year. So get to that point, and
you know, go back to our poll mark. What did
end at? Was it like eighty five to fifteen percent.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Something like that that I need to check the finals,
you know.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Simply we asked the question, you know, who would Colts
who would Colts fans rather see start week one? And
it was overwhelming in the Richardson camp, and James, you've
been out there every day, you know, you hear the crowd.
It's different when Richardson makes a good play versus Jones.
So I think everyone's kind of in the camp of,
you know what, I'd rather see Richardson just get clarity

(42:20):
on it one way or the other and move on
from there. Whereas again, I think Stichen's a little bit
more in the camp of, like boy, I don't know
if Daniel Jones can just be boring but not turn
it over, maybe we can scratch our claw scratching claw
in the way into the postseason.

Speaker 1 (42:37):
One two percent that Anthony Richardson's seventeen point six at
Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
The one thing that's clear, and you started the conversation
with that, whether it's Shane Stikeen, whether it's Chris Ballard,
they've got to find a way to make the playoffs,
whether it's Daniel Jones, whether it's Anthony richardson whether it's
a combination of the two. They've got to find a
way to get into the postseason because if they don't,
I'm pretty sure that Ballard's probably not gonna be here

(43:01):
after this coming season. And I don't know what that
means for Shane Stikeen either, But they've got to whoever
they decide on, whoever gets the job, or maybe it's
a combination of the two. If they don't make it
to the postseason, I think jobs are in big jeopardy.
There's a there's a new sheriff in town, and she
may not be as married to the general manager as

(43:22):
her father was. That's the sense that I get. And
as you guys saw, she's right out there with the guys,
watching practice every day, taking it all in. And we
talked to Rick Ventura yesterday, who vouches for her. She
knows what she's looking at, she knows what she wants
to see. She was brought up that way, So I
think I think her her presence and the way things

(43:44):
have shaken out, they either make the playoffs or they don't,
and I think it's a it's it's probably an ultimatum.
I would think in some ways whether it's unspoken or not,
those guys have got to find a way to get better.

Speaker 4 (43:57):
You think making the playoffs cures all.

Speaker 5 (44:00):
I think it's a big step.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
You can make a case that, hey, look we made
these moves, we've done this, we've done that, we've made progress.
Let's finish it out. You can at least make the
case at that point in time. Now, how many more
times can you make the case, Kevin? If you just
never get out of neutral?

Speaker 4 (44:16):
Yeah, again, part of me looks at and says, would
making the playoffs just be enough? You know, she was
what thrust in the position in May, If she was
thrust in that position in December, January, are those parties
still here?

Speaker 2 (44:28):
Good point, it's it's going to be interesting to watch
and we all just hope one way or another that
whatever they choose it works out to be well, and
it works out that they get to the playoffs, and
certainly want to see them win a playoff game. You know,
there were a couple of games last year, I mean,
heading in the last four weeks of the season, they
were right there in the mix and they just couldn't
get it done.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
Yeah, Well, more for you after the break. But certainly.
I have more thoughts on this topic as well as
all things cult, so stick with us here on one
seven to five to the fan for ESPN and Steven,
I will start here. We actually have a question from
our YouTube chat that I found very interesting, and Dustin says,

(45:09):
the conversation regarding the quarterbacks seems like it's no longer
quote we need to see if he can Regarding Anthony Richardson,
it has shifted to basically we need to confirm that
he can't be the guy moving forward. So from your perspective, Stephen,
where does Anthony's year three rank among the things that
this team sort of has to figure out when it

(45:30):
comes to their future. Do they have more time like
Chris ballad has insinuated? Or is this or make or
break here?

Speaker 7 (45:39):
Well, I'll start by saying I actually have seen the
Oklahoma drew in NFL practice because I've been around for
a while, but we won't be seeing that tomorrow. In
terms of Anthony, Yeah, interesting question. I actually would say this.
I think he has answered some questions so far. Now

(46:00):
let me be Claire. I don't think you can you
can you know, make a decision on a guy, you know,
based on what we've seen so far. You know, it's
a it's a week, right, and it's it's practice and
only a couple of days in past. But I think
we have more answers than questions so far, which is good.

(46:21):
It's it's going in the right direction for him. And
I think the other thing that he has done is
he has to answered some other questions I think off
the field, which is is he going to put in
the work. It seems like he has. Again, none of
this ensures that this is going to be successful, I
mean still tbd. But when it comes to working on

(46:44):
a technique and he got in better shape even right,
things like that, I think those are all very positive
science as it relates to like you specifically saying do
they have more time? And you know, in terms of
figuring this out, it is still I think the number
one question because quarterback is what has held them back.

(47:05):
I mean, shame stiken. I think if I'm mistaken, he
is a five hundred record without any quarterback consistency. So
what's holding the Colts back? Quarterback play? If they get
any quarterback consistency, they could be a playoff team. So
whether that's with Anthony Richardson Daniel Jones or someone else

(47:27):
in the future. They have to achieve that otherwise nothing
else matters. So they don't really have time they need
to figure this out. But I do think it's trending
in the right direction.

Speaker 4 (47:38):
Stephen Holding find his work from at ESPN. He is
with us here on the Payless Slickers hotline, Steven as
best you can guess, a week from tomorrow, they'll play
a preseason game in Baltimore. What do you envision for
Richardson and Jones? Each of them get a quarter? Do
each of them get a quarter in each of the
first two preseason games? Like, maybe Richardson starts next Thursday,

(48:02):
Jones the following week against Green Bay, and then maybe
week three you expand that a little bit more, maybe
you've named a starter by then. How do you kind
of map out what the preseason playing time looks like
for these two?

Speaker 7 (48:16):
Well, I think the thing you can't do is act
like you would when you when you have a quarterback
that's already determined, you know, in a couple series or
something like that. I think you have to let them
play a little bit. You know, practice is not enough
to make these determinations. If you want the full picture.
I mean they got to play in the preseason games,

(48:38):
and depending on how much the opponent plays their starters
and their key players, it may not be a great,
you know, a great indicator, but but you need all
all the available evidence you can get. So I think
you have to play them somewhat extensively. And you know
how that looks. I don't know, I guess I guess

(48:58):
my expectation is one guy starts, the other One guy
starts one game, you know, plays more, The next guy
start starts, the next game, plays a little more, and
then I don't know what you do week three. I
guess that depends they They have tended to kind of
I guess, not make a big deal about game three,
but then there have been times when they have so

(49:20):
I don't know what the what the philosophy there is yet.
I don't think teams have a have a real philosophy
on game three yet. You know, since we've gone to
seventeen games, it really varies widely.

Speaker 4 (49:30):
But anyways, they can't treat it like their other teams
given their quarterback situation.

Speaker 7 (49:36):
Yeah that's fair, but anyway, just sticking to the quarterback topic,
I think that they're they're gonna have to play I think,
more extensively than you would under normal circumstances. I just
think you have to get that additional look at them
and you got to, you know, look at they're risky. Yeah,
but I think you have to do what you have
to do. This is the path they've chosen. They've chosen

(49:57):
to have a quarterback competition, so dang it, you gotta
have the competition.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
We were just talking about this before you came on.
We all know that under Jim Orsay, a lot of
leash given to Chris Ballard and I know Shane Steikeen's newer,
but I see Carli ers Garden right out there watching
every play, watching every practice. How successful does this team
need to be for those guys to continue to keep

(50:25):
their jobs. Do you think that this new, new look,
new field that the Colts have, you.

Speaker 7 (50:31):
Know, I really do think it depends on what it
looks like as much as you know the number of wins.
You know, Look, I mean a ten win season or
a nine or ten win season can take different shapes, right,
And I think that that really will determine it. But
I feel like the playoffs. I'm not gonna say it's

(50:53):
playoffs or bus But I mean, I just think after
the last few years. I mean, you heard Chris Ballard
talking to the other day, asked him, you know, Chris Man,
you know, four years without the playoffs. I mean, what
are we doing here? You know? And and to his credit,
he was like, this is the longest I've gone without
ever making the playoffs. And he's like, I'm sick about it.
And and I think you heard that repeated throughout the organization.

(51:19):
I think players were echoing the same, the same sentiment
like this is crazy, Like where what kind of team
are we? And at some point, I mean that that
has to be the standard. You have to be a
team that's competing for the playoffs every year. Last year
they were actually less in contention than they were the
year before. So I think you have to get to

(51:39):
the playoffs and then let's see what it looks like.
Let's see what this is the big thing, the trajectory.
What is the trajectory of the team. Last year's trajectory
at the end of the season, I thought it was
it was not a positive trajectory. So let's see what
that looks like this year. And that, you know, look
at it maybe it's a vibes thing, right, I mean,

(52:00):
what are the vibes? Are they up or down? And
I think that's going to matter a lot.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
So piggyback off that, Stephen. When Chris Ballard said, you know,
this is the longest I've been without making the playoffs,
I really wanted to follow up and say, well, yeah,
most people don't get a chance to miss it four
times in a row and keep their job going into
a ninth season. I mean, that's just the honest truth.
But to pivot a bit to more of the on
field action from a enticing but yet infuriating at times,

(52:28):
standpoint your thoughts on Adie Mitchell, because yesterday he was bawling.
The day before that maybe not so much. So where
does he stack up in his wide receiver room so far?
And how do you see him potentially fitting into it?

Speaker 7 (52:42):
So here's the thing about ad Did you go back
to last year's training camp? And then I would add
this spring in OTAs fantastic? Okay, Like when we watched
him in training camp last year, we're like, man, you
know what, they might have a steal here. And then
we got to the regular season and it was as

(53:03):
if he was new to the game of football. Okay,
I don't know what that was. He looked completely overmatched,
deer in the headlights. He didn't belong out there. I'm
just being blunt. I can't help it. But and so
I say all that to say, now we come into
training camp and this is mostly last week. But last

(53:25):
week the player I saw was not this great practice
player that I had been seeing, you know, for the
last year. It was awful, drop after drop after drop.
I mean just awful. Just look completely unprepared, unfocused. That's
not okay. The body language not great at times as well,

(53:45):
which is a different argument or different issue. He has
come back, I think the last two days, and been
much sharper and much more reliable. He's been good, frankly,
So that's the practice player I've seen. But what I
brought up last week for this reason though, even when
he's been good in practice, it hasn't translated the games.

(54:07):
So he better be amazing in practice if I'm going,
if I'm the coach, if I'm going to put him
out there in key situations and ask him to make
plays for me, because frankly, I think they gave him
almost too much rope last year. I understand believing in
the guy and given second chances, I agree with all that,
but when games are on the line and a guy

(54:30):
doesn't come through time after time, at some point you
got to say, all right, you're gonna go have a
seat and we'll deal with you later. And they did
not do that, and I thought that was strange. I mean,
at some point there has to be some accountability. I
don't know if there was enough with ad Mitchell. He's
got to earn it.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
Frankly, Stephen Steven, do you think we hear it all
from Carly orse Gordon? When the joint practice rolls around
with Green Bay? Typically her dad spoke quite often. I
feel like during those joint practices, regardless of the years
or even the TV booth appearance that Jim Mercy would
make dur in the preseason with Greg Gregshaw and Rick Venture,

(55:06):
you think we hear from her at either of those
spots before the season starts.

Speaker 7 (55:11):
Well in a shocking development, the expectation that she's going
to talk a lot less than her dad did. And
I think the answer to your question is, we really
don't know. And you know, and I'm sure you've had
conversations with people. The feedback I've gotten is we'll see.
I don't think it is top of mind for her

(55:32):
to discuss, you know, or to think about, let me rephrase,
to think about when she's going to address the media.
I mean, I still commend her and her sisters for
having that initial press conference. Frankly, I thought that might
take longer than it did, you know, after their father's passing,
and to their credit, they came out. They were an
open book. They answered all the questions. That was great.

(55:54):
And I actually, you know, not having talked to Carlya
a lot over the years, just because she's not a
very public person, I didn't know what to expect. And frankly,
I was very impressed with how she handled herself. And
now I'm thinking, you know what, you should do this more.
And but I don't anticipate it. I think that she
will do it, you know, as you know, just from

(56:16):
time to time. But I don't think it'll be impromptu
all the time like her dad. I don't think we'll
be you know, cornering her outside the locker room after games.
I don't anticipate all of that. I mean, we'll see,
we'll see. It could it could evolve but but that's
not the Carlyer say I anticipate, even though I think
everything indicates that she's a wonderful person, But yeah, that's

(56:36):
just not her style.

Speaker 3 (56:38):
Hold her if they won the season opener, I need
her to be standing next to a private jet afterwards,
saying this is how we do things. It's new around here.
Please first season opening wins in twenty thirteen. But last
one I have for you.

Speaker 7 (56:50):
I would I would die. I would, I would fall
over and be deceased. It would be the funniest thing
in Cold's history.

Speaker 3 (56:57):
Let's just say, I'm not hold my breath for it.
That's for sure. Last one from me. We've had a
chance to talk to lu and Roumo about this defense,
and you know, I think the offense is kind of
bounced back over the last couple of days in pads. However,
there have still been some plays made, you know where
I don't think that those were necessarily scenarios that would
have been looking the same last year, given Guz Browley's

(57:18):
defensive scheme. So what have you liked or maybe disliked
about what you've seen from that defense so far?

Speaker 5 (57:24):
No, I love it.

Speaker 7 (57:26):
I think we have maybe been hard on the quarterbacks,
you know, those that first week or so. The quarterbacks
have been much better the last couple of days. That's
a great thing, much more efficient all that. But look,
I mean the passing excuse me, the completion rates were
not good for several days there. And I don't think

(57:47):
that was an accident. I think that the windows are tight.
I think that the coverage is aggressive and it's making
things tougher on the quarterbacks. So, you know, we'll see
if they can do that kind of thing against you know,
the elite quarterbacks they are going to face this year,
you know, the the Mahomes and the Justin Herberts, et cetera.

(58:09):
But but for now, it does seem to be making
life tough on quarterbacks. I really do think it's a
great sign. I thought, Look, this is not shade on
Gus Bradley. Uh there's there are different tactics and different
styles of defense, clearly, right, But but but I do
think there is something be said, uh for for challenging

(58:32):
receivers and challenging the quarterback and making throws tougher. And
and they're doing that here, they're doing it, and we'll
let's see how Let's see what it looks like when
it's all put together and and out there at full
speed and they got to tackle, which they have been
not great at. But right now I think what they're
doing is refreshing and and we've not seen this for

(58:53):
a long time. And they have the personnel to do
it too, which is the key, right you. You, I
don't care what you're playing. Personnel is the first thing
that matters. And they have the personnel and the style
to suit them, and it's working, I think so far.

Speaker 5 (59:09):
Steven is always good to hear from you.

Speaker 4 (59:10):
Man.

Speaker 5 (59:10):
It was good to see you yesterday, and we'll keep
in touch.

Speaker 7 (59:13):
Yeah, all right, talk to you guys.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
There is Steven Holder. See, he's been around long enough
to have seen the Oklahoma drill.

Speaker 3 (59:19):
Yeah, he reminds me of that often. He tries to
joke in that like he's this old relic, but he's still,
you know, relatively onion my eyes. I think that he's
just been around it and long enough to give me
some respective on how things have changed. And hearing his
thoughts I think on that defense was kind of confirmation,
perhaps confirmation bias a little bit from what Rick Ventry

(59:39):
has told us, what we've seen with our own eyes,
but just a little more aggression. I think that some
of those passing lanes Kevin could go a long way
with helping this defense take the next step forward and
perhaps even trying to help them win some games. Because man,
I go back to last year when when coach brought
up Coach Venturiy brought up tail a Heine kid from
a couple of years ago, and I was thinking, yeah,
they made him. He was a star Drew. Yeah, any

(01:00:03):
quarterback that had to play this Gus Bradley defense over
the last three years, I mean, they had career days.
I feel like too many of them. So that should
not be the case going forward.

Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
Yeah, the defense schematically was a joke. Frankly in recent years.
You just allowed quarterbacks to get into rhythms and oftentimes
it bit you. And I think that is a huge
change with what lou Anroumo wants to do, and I
think you've seen it. And also, you know, when you
talk about defensive investments, you know you have to talk
about the personnel as well. And I thought justin Wally,
the rookie hat of Minnesota, had one of the more

(01:00:36):
impressive individual plays of camp yesterday. Late in the day
the offense got Michael Pittman Junior isolated on Wally one
on one and again on paper, that is your number
one wide out against a rookie corner, a third round
pick on paper, that's a win for the offense. I mean,

(01:00:56):
it is a matchup driven league. It's all about matchups, matchups.
You know, how can we get a linebacker on this guy?
How can we get a safety on that guy? How
can we get you know, one of our top whiteouts
on one of your bad or lower depth chart corners
and on a dig route Wall. I mean, to me,
that was like teach tape. Wally read it beautifully stepped
right in front of Pittman Junior, no sign of any

(01:01:18):
sort of flag or anything where you know that right
hand sometimes when you step in front of him, kN
tug at the back of the jersey, and he knocked
that ball down, and that to me was just again
another sign that of why this staff has put Justin
Wally in the position that he is in right now.
Is unfortunate that Jalen Jones went down yesterday that did
not look good hamstring injury. So hopefully he can get

(01:01:40):
back as quickly as possible. But right now, that third
corner spot. It is clearly justin Wally's not just with
the trust he's earned from the staff. But again we
saw more playmaking from him yesterday.

Speaker 5 (01:01:52):
All right, let's check things down and get you up
to day on what you need to know for the day.

Speaker 8 (01:01:57):
The morning checkdown, Nut and one oh seven five the
fan culture off today.

Speaker 5 (01:02:03):
They will have a situational scrimmage out of Graham Park
beginning at eight pm tomorrow night, and that is a
week away from their first preseason game in Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
James Boyd, Yeah, this will be a different setting under
the lights out there in Graham Park, So I'm excited
to see how it unfolds and who's available given some
of the injuries that kind of piled up over the
last couple of days. Notable injuries Juju Brin's hamstring, Jalen
Jones hamstring, Michael Piman junior growing.

Speaker 5 (01:02:29):
And we'll find out a little bit more today on
the severity of some of those correct where we have
to wait to tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Eve think we'll talk to tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Yeah, everybody's going off today, all right, that's what's happening
as far as the Indianapolis culture concerned. The Indiana Fever
return to the floor tonight. They will play at seven
pm against the Phoenix Mercury, a game that could be
heard right here on ninety three five and one oh
seven to five. The fan still know Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
Insight, it sounds like James No, she's still out for
the foreseeable future and definitely the word I would use.
They haven't given really a timeline or an update on
her status, but the Fever have stats a couple wins
in her absence in a big one tonight against the
Phoenix Mercury, who have do Wanna Bonner, former Fever who
left the team. And also she is in my opinion,
that team, in my opinion, is playing really good.

Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
And you know, someone actually leaked the do Wanna Bonner
tribute video to me yesterday, so I was able to
get a glimpse of that. I sent it to Mark.
I believe the audio sounds like this.

Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
Well it was, it was fun while it lasted.

Speaker 5 (01:03:23):
That might be it.

Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
There you go, leaked audio of what the tribute video
will be for.

Speaker 5 (01:03:28):
De Wana Bonner.

Speaker 4 (01:03:30):
I think you could have a firework or two inside
a gamebridge Field House tonight. We'll see how things go
not only to want to Bonner against the team that
she mysteriously I guess left a couple of months ago,
but also Sophie Coneyham playing her old team. I don't
think Sophie Cuny dam Ill will is maybe anywhere near
the other, but we'll see how things go. Obviously, things
got very heated with the Connecticut Son earlier in the

(01:03:52):
year with a little bit of some overlapping ties on
that roster. So yeah, tonight could get a little juicy inside.

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Of Actually, I actually got leaked audio of her like
post game press.

Speaker 7 (01:04:03):
Conference it was time to you know, get out there.

Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
That that I very descriptive was her checking out of
the game. So it'll be those words with her checking
out of the game, that'll be the tribute.

Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
She has been pretty good with the Mercury coming off
the bench again. They are one of the better teams
I think in the league, and they have struggled here
as of late. But I think it's a good matchup
for the Fever. They are a notable underdog without Caitlin
Clark and again five straight on the road after tonight.

Speaker 5 (01:04:30):
All right, Major League Baseball, Yesterday not a good day
for our teams. To run here. Dodgers beat the Reds by.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
The score of five to four, Milwaukee Brewers over the
Cubs nine to three. It was the Marlin shutting out
the Cardinals five nothing. And if you're a White Sox fan,
they lose again to the Philadelphia Philly six to three
was the final score.

Speaker 5 (01:04:46):
In that one.

Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
Anything else you want to throw in, James boyd No,
I'll just say as a former south Side guy, my
dad growing up on the south Side, the Socks gave
us a little hope there, you know, recently, and then
they went back to being this.

Speaker 5 (01:05:00):
That was a short lived hope though.

Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
Hey, you gotta get in where you fit in.

Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
That's how that works, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
Coming up in just a moment, we will hear within
the next hour from Tyler Warren the tight end to
rookie tight End from Penn State, and we'll talk more
about the Colts and camp and everything else that's going
on around here. At ninety three five and one seven five.

Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
And a head bob from James bot Boy.

Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
They're not not necessarily the up and dancing, but little
little grooven head bob there.

Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
People gave a bunch of bsb baby. Yeah, people get
much cramp back in the day, like a boy bands
this song.

Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
Rules are great.

Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Everything's gonna give a Savage Garden coming up in a
little Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
I could I like Savage.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Yeah, everything is years ago is by people tried to
credit how cool it was in a moment, even like
clothing and music and like no, back then it was great.

Speaker 1 (01:05:48):
I got like, I get like, I have an Instagram thing.
I thought it's like nineties life or whatever it is,
and it's like they post daily, like on this day
TRL videos. What was the top ten back in the day.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
I love those? Yeah, those are out of those.

Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
I forgot about sun these songs. I need to follow that.

Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
Yeah, tonight you have a good time, Phoenix taking on
the fever seven o'clock. You're here at Live right here
on ninety three five one o seven five the fan
Our Keys to the Game, brought to you by the
Hubeler Automotive Group. Check out your next car at drive
Hubler dot com, Indiana's giant automotive group. And man, keep
it going for Kelsey Mitchell and that offense that have
been moving the ball.

Speaker 5 (01:06:23):
James Boyd.

Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
She's been scoring, she's been hot. They've been getting nice
shots on the wing from Lexi Hall. Just keep that
flow going and they do a really great job when
they're playing their best offensive basketball at sharing the ball.
It doesn't hit the floor and it moves.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Yeah, that's how they're gonna have to win, especially without
Kaitlyn Clark. I mean, anybody trying to do the Kaitlyn
Clark masquerade and trying to go one on one outside
of Kelsey Mitchell is probably not a good idea. So
big one tonight, I'm sorry. Yeah, tonight against the Phoenix
at home, and I think, you know, again, it'll be
a little animosity there because of Dowana Bonner, But I

(01:06:59):
like pettiness and all. So, although I do believe it's
fair to say she quit on the team, she has
gone to her new team and thrived, so I can
see why she wanted out. I can see both sides
of it. But doesn't mean that the fans are so
you need love tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Do you think a lot of it could have just
been Look her fiance or partners part of the Phoenix mercury.
She got here, she's in Indiana and she's like, man,
I'm just not happy where I'm physically at right now.

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
I'm not sure I would love to ask her that. Honestly,
she hasn't really spoken on it. I know she mentioned
that part of her departure was not because she came
off the bench where she has done her career and
at least she's doing right now for the Mercury. But
I want to hear from her before and after the game.

Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
You sometimes get wind of this training camp wise, you know,
and falling a little bit of around the league, and
you know, right now from a national training camp standpoint,
you know, the Michael Parsons story, the Trey Hendrickson story,
the Terry McLaurin stories. You know, contract stuff seems to
dominate it. But I don't know if you've felt this
at all, James, but it seems like right now now
the Week one opponent of the Colts, the Miami Dolphins. Yeah,

(01:08:03):
they are dealing with an absolute wrecked secondary room with injuries.
And remember they traded Ramsey Ramsey right before the start
of the season, So just something to keep an eye
on for a Week one. I get that September seventh
is a long ways away, but they lost a corner,

(01:08:25):
one of their better corners last yesterday for the entire season,
and this is like one of many secondary injuries they
have already had. They've signed guys off the streets and yeah, yeah,
the Colts you know had whatever Jayalen Jones go down yesterday,
But you know, it doesn't seem to be anything like Miami.
So just something to keep an eye on. As what

(01:08:46):
I have said several times and will continue to say
as we get closer to the start of the regular season,
I just think these first two games, outside of the
Houston games, I think they are the most important games
in the Colts schedule, Miami Week one, Denver Week two,
not just because this team has a Week one drought,
because of who the opponents are, and I think these
are teams that could very well be in the wildcard
picture and those tie breakers can be huge for you.

Speaker 5 (01:09:09):
I think I talked about this yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
I'd throw in the Week three matchup against Tennessee right
on top of that too, because I think if this
team comes out of that two and one at least,
and they got to, given how they start, given where
they've been in the division, to be one to zer
in the division, be two and one or even three
and ohero, I think that would set an amazing tone
for the rest of the season.

Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
James, absolutely, but I gotta see it. I mean, with
this team, they have to prove some things. And I
will say that obviously, the Dolphins are a lot better
with Tuey. I mean two I'm sorry in the lineup
than Snoop Huntley or who is the other one, Tim
Boyle last year. So that'll be a test for that

(01:09:50):
secondary early out the gay. I know, defensively, we talked
about some of the injuries following up Kevin, but Jayleen Wattle,
Tyreek Hill, those two guys with the quarterback that can
get them the ball are very, very dangerous and the
wind Lebroncos are as well coached as well. In Week
two and in what they're trying to build with bo Nicks.

Speaker 5 (01:10:07):
Yeah, and you saw Courtland Sulton just got his big
deal earlier this past week and that was a big
thing last year Bonnicks to Courtland Sulton. I know how
good the Broncos are quite right now.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
But one of the reasons that I think for teams
like Miami with the Tyreek Hill, with the Wallas, it's
one of the reasons they bring in the two guys
that they brought into the secondary. It's one of the
reasons they fortified that, and so they're going to get
a big test right out of the gate. Let's see
where they're at, right And Kennymore, I know Greg Doyle
wrote a nice piece on him this morning as well.
He's not going anywhere, and he's still a.

Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
Guy that I think makes things go back there.

Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
So they've at least fortified themselves, Kevin, it remains to
be seen how quickly that all comes together.

Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
Mark. Let's play Anthony Richardson's comments from yesterday, James. I
always think Anthony Richardson is pretty candid when it comes
to media sessions. It's certainly much different than Daniel Jones.
I don't know how much of that is New York's
scar tissue for Daniel Jones or what, but this was
Richard and yesterday, I believe you asked the question. I
guess I should let you go and tee it up, James,
And I thought Anthony's answer was one that might raise

(01:11:08):
some eyebrows, but this is definitely how he is wired.

Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
I was just curious to know what have you done
from a approach standpoint, a mentality standpoint, perhaps even a
maturity standpoint this off season to prepare for what will
be I think, the most pivotal season of your career.

Speaker 6 (01:11:23):
Not necessarily, honestly, I just feel like the things I
was doing, you know, last year and the year before,
I feel like there was more. You know, all the
greats they always do more, They do more than other
people are expecting them to do. And you know, after
last season, I feel like I needed to do more,
you know, not only for the team, but for myself.
You know, if I want a so called be great
and I want to be in the Hall of Fame

(01:11:44):
one day, you know, I have to do more. You know,
I have to go do things that other people won't do.
So I've just been doing that, you know, just taking
a day by day, not necessarily trying to you know,
you know, change anything mentally or anything like that, but
just taking a deeper dive and studying my playbook a
little longer, you know, a questions, you know, going through
my footwork, you know, walking through the players by myself,

(01:12:04):
you know, just stuff like that. Just trying to do more.

Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
And I'm glad he kind of gave us some examples
at the end, because that was gonna be my follow
up Initially, as you hear players often say, you know,
what'd you work on this offseason?

Speaker 6 (01:12:14):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
Everything? Yeah, well that's not an answer, but hearing him
say the playbook, you know, you know, having to do
things from a scheduling standpoint that are a little bit different,
a little more more demanding, all the little things. Because
even when he got benched last year, I think a
lot of people were wanting to find sort of the
smoking gun, the thing that kind of try that broke
the camel's back. But really it was, from my understanding,

(01:12:36):
it was like a bunch of little things kind of
piling up on top of each other and then you
you know, put that alongside the tap out and not
playing well, and it left him being benched. And so
I know we talk a lot about him getting better
at intermediate throws and accuracy and availability, but I still
think that from last year to this year, we need
to see a big jump in the operational approach to

(01:12:58):
the game. And I know he loves football. Obviously it's
changed his life, like he said another point in the interview,
So I'm excited to see where he's grown in the
maturity standpoint, but also credit where creditors do he will
win you. The interview is just can you go out
there and win the games, which honestly a lot of
people will prefer.

Speaker 4 (01:13:15):
Obviously, I think you listened to Richardson yesterday and at times,
if I was a fan, I'd be like, why did
it take three years? Why why did it need to care?

Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
I was a question through at Chris Ballady, and he
gave us that like weird. Well, you know your kids,
you tell him to clean their room, they don't always
do it. I'm like, Ah, kids don't get thirty million
dollars guaranteed to lead a franchise.

Speaker 4 (01:13:33):
Yeah, there's a little bit of holding the hand.

Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
Yeah, but I do wonder about that, and I do wonder, Kevin,
will we ever get that real answer, because hey, it
is a bit, you know, and I think it's layered.
I don't think it's just one thing like I just
alluded to earlier. It's probably multiple things. But dang, like
it took this long for you to kind of get
it all.

Speaker 4 (01:13:51):
Right, And you know, we can get back into the
Richardson background of he did not grow up in this
quarterback climate that Bryce Young and Caleb Williams and the
Mannings of the world you have, and you know, he
was not this five star lead eleven quarterback, you know,
anything like that. You know, he was drafted, obviously very young.
He did not start a lot of games at Florida. Again,
we could rehash all of that, and.

Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
To be honest, he wasn't good in college like some
of these other quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
Correct.

Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
But as we sit here on July thirtieth and throwing
the caveats facing his own defense with the Red Jersey on,
I have seen some improvement. The egregious misses aren't as there.
Sure yesterday he misses a left handed shovel past to
Tyler Warren. He had miscommunication with Alt Pierce. But like
the airmails, the hitting of the roosters, the ground balls,

(01:14:36):
back to the picture, stuff that we have seen in
recent years that has not been anywhere near as frequent
and as abundant. Now, you know, am I betting the
mortgage that he's going to be the most improved player
of the year or be the MVP of the league. No,
because you know, oftentimes you go back to your old
habits when the Red Jerseys comes off, or when you

(01:14:56):
face Baltimore or you face Green Bay, things like that,
and of course you still have the health question, which
you know, hopefully you don't have it all during the
training game, hopefully you never have it, but definitely during
training camp as well. But he's at three or four
good days. I think that's really fair to say. He
says he's got more control of the ball, wider base,
that's led to more stable footwork. He feels like that's

(01:15:17):
played into the lack of arrant throws, improved diet. Again,
we will see if all of this translates, but three
or four days have been good for him. And honestly,
three or four days have been better for Daniel Jones.
Not looking like Pro Bowl quarterbacks by any means, but
you know, the first two days of camp it was horrific,
and I would say lately the passing offense in general

(01:15:38):
has been better.

Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
Yeah, for Anthony Richardson, it still comes down to what
they thought when they drafted in. They had their eyes
on this unbelievable physical talent, and they thought that they
could teach him how to play quarterback in the National
Football League because he had only made thirteen starts in college.
We all know that, as Kevin said, we don't have
to relitigate all that, but they still believe that they

(01:16:01):
can teach him, and that was Shane Stikeen's job. Chris
Baller said, here is this raw piece of clay with
some unbelievable qualities.

Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
Can you make him an NFL quarterback?

Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
And that's where they're at in year three if you
go back to the Zach keeper peace in the athletic today.

Speaker 5 (01:16:16):
They believe that there's still time for him to develop,
that he's still young, that he's still relatively inexperienced, and
that they can teach him the NFL skills he needs
to go along with that otherworldly physical ability to flip
to the.

Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Other side of the football for a moment. Kevin, how
do you feel about Juju Brynts? Like, is he a
guy that they have to now look at and say,
or perhaps they already have and say, if you're a
part of this fifty three man roster, great, you know,

(01:16:52):
if you're the sixth cornerback in this room, great. But
I kind of feel for the guy, you know, because
we talked to him. I'll believe this must have been Monday,
Monday after pressure and he's telling us, Hey, I'm back,
I'm ready to prove myself and I've I've done all
these things for my body and then you missed practice.
So it's it's always We've talked a lot about the

(01:17:12):
starting stops for Anthony Richardson, but it's been the same
with the guy drafted right after him in the same class.

Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
Yeah, hamstring injuries. What the bold said again, you know,
hamstring injury is definitely not good. We'll see how long
he's going to be out. I would say before that, James,
you had to be pleased with where he was at.

Speaker 3 (01:17:30):
Ask what I'm saying, because I think when he's been out,
even when he played as a rookie, I thought, okay,
there's some stuff there. I can see why you would
be in theory a future starting cornerback in this league.
But man, he's not been able to string anything together
from a health state.

Speaker 4 (01:17:46):
I think if healthy, he's making the fifty three man roster.
I mean, and again, I guess we got to wait
on Jalen Jones's injury from me after.

Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
That make it seem like he's gonna get cut. I
was just saying, like, if these continue to pile up,
what's his future look like Indianapolis?

Speaker 5 (01:17:59):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:17:59):
I mean, it's a huge year. I mean, it's just
as big of a year for him as it is
Anthony Richardson. The only reason is he doesn't play quarterbacks.
That's probably why we don't talk about it in the
same light. So yeah, huge, huge year. You hope the
severity of that, I don't I don't think I saw
him at practice yesterday. Did you see him out there?

Speaker 5 (01:18:13):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:18:13):
No, I did not see him out there.

Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
Yeah. So you know, that's never I think, a great,
great sign. So you know, hopefully it's not very severe
for him because availability for him is just as important
as it is for Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
All right, coming up top of the hour, we'll hear
from Tyler Warre on the new tight end rookie out
of Penn State. Spent some time with him after practice yesterday.
You'll be able to hear that conversation. Also, check around
the rest of the there's your Savage garden Man.

Speaker 5 (01:18:38):
There you go, Kevin. So this is your anthem. I
don't know it's my anthem, but I like this.

Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
This is your anthem for this for Sussage garden ringtone
in the early two thousands, you called Jeff record this
is what he heard.

Speaker 4 (01:18:50):
And then he plays a snake game on his phone.

Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
Off you got me you got me, peg man, it's
right there.

Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
How about this?

Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
Have a cover one month from today, gentleman, any idea.

Speaker 5 (01:19:00):
One month from today? August thirtieth, what.

Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
It's gonna be? No, it's probably too early for like
a Pacers preseason college football.

Speaker 4 (01:19:10):
Oh my gosh, Pacers preseason.

Speaker 5 (01:19:12):
Got a lord of winning college football?

Speaker 1 (01:19:13):
You got that?

Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
August thirtieth, It is a Saturday. You're Purdue boiler Makers
in the Barry Odam era taking on ball State, sixteen
and a half point favorite over the Chrip Trippers. New
coach there, right, they got the h Uremovich right from Butler.
If I'm not mistaken, and year two for one, Kurt Signetti?
Am I seeing this correctly? They're only a twenty three

(01:19:37):
and a half point favorite over Old Dominion. Boy, just
hammer eye you in that one.

Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
Yeah, I can't like to think, so you'd hope so thought.

Speaker 4 (01:19:46):
I read Old Dominion hasn't had a winning record in
a decade.

Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
So too.

Speaker 4 (01:19:49):
Thirty kick from Memorial Stadium. One month from today college
football Notre Dame slots into the Sunday Labor Day matchup
down there in my Miami. They've got the fighting Stephen Holders.

Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
You guys gonna have a friendly wager and that one one.

Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Question you Cahoma drill put Kevin against the steven and
Oklahoma drill. We have James as the running back.

Speaker 5 (01:20:12):
What do you think?

Speaker 4 (01:20:12):
I think you can get some watchers for that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
Either way, I'm scoring regardless of what happens. You know
you saw the forty times, so I don't want James
boy back back there Cam Cam McCaffrey back. But I
do have a question for you, Kevin. So, as a
college football lover, I love college football. Are you a
hey get this to get kicked off at twelve? Or
do you prefer the big Saturday night a PM Ayes

(01:20:38):
on this game under the lights.

Speaker 4 (01:20:40):
There's something about the night game. There's just something about it.
It's just different. Now, don't get me wrong. I mean
like eleven to fifty. We don't discriminate, you know, no, no, no,
like eleven fifty five every Saturday. I mean you got
to be in front of the TV watching the end
of the game day.

Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
I think they are enough great games every week that
you can put one on noon in one tonight. Well
correct me if I'm wrong, and Mark, please look this up.
Week one college football.

Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
I think that's our final game day with Corso and
I want to say they've announced Ohio State Texas for that.

Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
Oh wait, is that a.

Speaker 4 (01:21:10):
Big Ten team scheduling a marquee non conference game. No,
here he goes, I didn't know that was possible. I
thought they played too many conference games in the Big Ten.

Speaker 5 (01:21:20):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:21:20):
And that I think is noon, James Woyd to your
point from the Horseshoe, I could be wrong on that,
Marco double checking on that it is noon?

Speaker 1 (01:21:28):
Yeah, that is the final game for him.

Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Do we have preseason polls out? Is that one versus two?

Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
I haven't seen any polls.

Speaker 4 (01:21:35):
I think a lot of people are very high on Texas.
You gonna put a Bucky Well, he's got on. He's
got on one final time.

Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
Right, Yeah, you'd think so.

Speaker 4 (01:21:43):
But he's definitely if I'm not mistaken. He's had some
Bevo experiences too.

Speaker 3 (01:21:48):
Yeah, there's some good games that day to Florida State
Alabama later on and oh man, I will And this
is another thing I'm supposed to get like work done
because once our schedule.

Speaker 4 (01:21:59):
Kiss in the NFL is given that weekend up, James,
the NFL used to try and do their roster cuts
that Saturday. They've now bumped that up. I'm so glad
to like that Tuesday, which the NFL has finally said
we will allow college football to have that. They don't
allow them to have playoff weekend. We obviously saw that
last year, but James, that is a that should be

(01:22:22):
a quiet weekend for the Colts in the entire NFL.
The next week, of course, is when the NFL starts
September seventh, So yes, one month from today, the fighting
Barry Otems and the fighting Kurt Signettes.

Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
Wait talking about the Coults and their ability to try
and get off on a really good start, and of
course they don't want to get behind the eight ball.
They want to get that first win if they can
finally get one in Miami. We've talked about following up
with Denver, a team that was going neck and neck
with them for a playoff spot last year, with the
Colts eventually lost, and then you got your first division game.
Checking around the AFC South yesterday, it looks like Jacksonville

(01:22:56):
is getting closer and closer James to trying to figure
out what they're exactly going to do with Travis. I
know there was a quote yesterday from new head coach
Lie and Comb, who said he'll go back to defense
before our mock game scrimmage and be able to kind
of use that mock as an evaluation, see, all right,
what do we need to do now? What did it
look like in the scrimmage? Do we need to maybe
get any more time on defense? So it sounds like

(01:23:18):
they haven't quite still figured out what to.

Speaker 1 (01:23:20):
Do with him.

Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
I just wonder if he's gonna hold up physically. That's
my biggest thing, and I've seen him do some special
things all of us have at the college level. You
can't not be special when the heisman. However, I don't
trust that physically you can do it in the NFL.
So I wonder if there's a couple packages they'll try
to throw out there. But at some point does he

(01:23:42):
just go to one position and say I'm going to
kill it here. Because it's so hard to play both ways.
And also from an incentive standpoint, you're not getting paid
anything extra for that. You're not being compensated anymore for
doing that. So that's something that I think that he
should probably talk to his you know, agent and management
about them. From a competitive standpoint, it's like, oh, I
want to do everything, I can do it all, but

(01:24:04):
from a financial standpoint, there is no incentive to do that.
So we'll see how it all shakes out.

Speaker 4 (01:24:11):
A thank you Liam Cohen for that. Colts jack seven
and a half wins. Both of them have the same
over under who finishes with more wins.

Speaker 5 (01:24:20):
I still feel maybe I'm am I wrong to be
a little more optimistic on the Colts this year than
most people.

Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
I think that they've got a chance to win ten
or eleven games this year. If look and I say that, no,
look at what they've done to the secondary.

Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
You can pay for some of the boys colleges. If
you bet that eleven wins right now, put some money
where your mouth is.

Speaker 5 (01:24:40):
Eleven maybe too many. But I think that they're going
to be in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
I think that they I always talk about the thing
about you've got to have marquee players. I think they
brought in two great defensive secondary guys to add to
Kenny Moore, and we've seen I know, hopefully they'll be healthy,
but we've seen what's happened with Jayalen.

Speaker 5 (01:24:58):
Jones and Juju Burro. It's looking a little bit better.

Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
There.

Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
We already know that they can run the ball. We
were talking about that earlier with JT. I like the
way that this wide receiver room is coming together as
a group, and I think, to your point earlier, James
Ady Mitchell could be really special when it's all said
and done.

Speaker 5 (01:25:15):
I like that Tyler Warren is there. I like that
they've got most of their offensive line figured out. I
believe that they've answered more questions than they actually have
right now, and that remains to be seen. I know,
this is just my thought.

Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
My biggest worry right now is can they put pressure
on the opposing quarterback? But outside of that, I think
they've addressed a lot of needs and I feel confident
and optimistic that things are going.

Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
To be better this year.

Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
You can throw money down on over nine and a
half wins right now at plus two to eighty.

Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
I think I'll probably do that.

Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
So you said the Jaguars and the Colts, Kevin.

Speaker 4 (01:25:49):
Correct, Yes, they have the same over under of seven
and a half wins.

Speaker 5 (01:25:54):
So I'm saying I'll take the overs.

Speaker 3 (01:25:55):
What I'm saying, I think the Jaguars quarterback is better.

Speaker 1 (01:25:59):
Yeah, Jaguars, I think.

Speaker 4 (01:26:02):
By Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas if they do that,
you know, if they put him offensively, I mean, boy,
and I know I'm probably you know, speaking more from
Brian Thomas what he did against the Colts last year,
but damn.

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
He did against everybody's He's already a better receiver than
anybody the Colts have had in recent years.

Speaker 4 (01:26:19):
Oh for sure. Yeah, yeah, that is quite the duo there.

Speaker 5 (01:26:22):
I think they'll both be better.

Speaker 4 (01:26:25):
So you got the Colts win in the division than
if they win ten or eleven?

Speaker 5 (01:26:27):
No, if they win, no, I think I still think
the Texans are a team to beat. I think they've
got some questions going like thirteen to four. Now they've
got some questions too. I probably should have said ten,
but I think there's a realistic chance that this team
can go ten and seven.

Speaker 3 (01:26:43):
I got to see something more from the quarterbacks. I'm
not I can't buy into it. I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (01:26:47):
The quarterback is not gonna be any worse than it
was last year.

Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
Well, I wouldn't say that.

Speaker 4 (01:26:52):
I was gonna say around these parts, that's like saying,
Kevin Bowen, take your shirt off and let's let's compare
him to what it was a week ago.

Speaker 3 (01:27:00):
We'll see that.

Speaker 5 (01:27:00):
I like the plus two Eddy on that. I'll tell
you that right now.

Speaker 1 (01:27:04):
All right, so put it down, all right, scratch.

Speaker 5 (01:27:08):
One of the reasons I am optimistic. I think he's going.

Speaker 1 (01:27:10):
To doing the money sign. She's saying, come on now.

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
I think to have a truly reliable weapon in that
short intermediate game is not going to hurt either one
of these quarterbacks. And we'll talk to Tyler Warren about
all that coming up next. It's ninety three five and
one of seven to five Defan chack Ford, Kevin going,
jeff Rickord, Mark Dyton, and Nora Dyketon hanging out with
us today. We appreciate that. And we've been talking about

(01:27:34):
the Colts all day long.

Speaker 5 (01:27:35):
We were talking about some overs and unders just a
moment ago, and I'm a.

Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Little more bullish on the Indianapolis cults than a lot
of people, and I'm okay with that.

Speaker 5 (01:27:41):
I accept that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:42):
I thought about that, and one of the reasons is Kevin,
they've really done a lot to improve their offense. They've
kind of gotten Daniel Jones to be a little bit
of an insurance issue against injury or maybe he gets
a better shot at with a better offensive line than
he had before. But I still think that this wide
receiver corp is solid and could be terrific if ad

(01:28:03):
Mitchell turns into something. I think our next guest is
going to make a big difference in short and intermediate
and maybe downfield. After one player saw yesterday with Tyler Warren,
I just think the offense has a chance to be
a really good offense and compete with teams.

Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
Well, I'd argue, really the only real improvement is Warren.
I would say the improvements are defensively much more than
they are offensively. They really didn't touch their O line
at all. Wide receiver, running back, I guess running back
maybe a little bit on the depth, but definitely Tyler Warren,
and I think if you've been out at Grand Park,
you have seen some of that security blanket stuff and
just a tight end that has a catch radius that's

(01:28:38):
a little different than the other tight ends in that room.

Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
We had a chance to talk to him right after
practice yesterday, and one of the things we did is
welcome into Indianapolis and ask him if he's getting used
to the heat and humidity in the middle of a
very hot morning and a very hot week.

Speaker 9 (01:28:55):
It's good and no starting to get used to it.
Felt it a little bit you know in April and May,
but just kicking them now. But it's been good and
I think it's been you know, only going to benefit
us in the long run. The full pads means what
to you, that's you know, as real as as practice
can be to a game, and that's really when you
find out, you know, what's your cable of on the
football field. And I think it's you know, probably our
most important practice. So I think it's been you know,

(01:29:17):
a good star tusk getting pads out here, and it's
been really really fun.

Speaker 4 (01:29:20):
Jim Bob Kuter said something earlier that he felt like
full pads would accentuate a few more of the characteristics
to your game. What do you feel like those characteristics
are when the full pads come on that you kind
of take it to another level.

Speaker 9 (01:29:31):
I think kind of in general, the offense, the toughness
can show a little bit more and kind of just
the physicality that that we play with as a group.
So I think that's the biggest thing that can kind
of shine through when you're when you're playing in full pads.

Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
So, Tyler, coming into camp, what has been the biggest
sort of learning curve for you when you go from
obviously playing in college, so now every guy on this
scene probably was a man where they came from in college.

Speaker 9 (01:29:51):
Yeah, I think, just like you said, in general, the
pace of play and the you know, everybody's good out
here and everybody's a professional, And I think the biggest
thing for me has been kind of the tighter windows
that that is considered open. You know, in the college
the NFL, it's you know, you never really wide open
unless you know, something crazy happens, so it's a lot
of bang bang catches and stuff like that. So it's
kind of been the the biggest thing I've been focusing

(01:30:12):
on getting better at. You know, through this camp.

Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
What do you think has helped you get more involved
in the offense over the last couple of days, some
downfield opportunities and things like that.

Speaker 9 (01:30:19):
I think it's just you know, doing our jobs is
tight end. Some days it might be you know a
little more run heavy, and some days we might be
catch more passes. So I think it's just kind of
the flow of the offense.

Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
Really, you haven't played a regular season game yet, but
you've had OTAs and now you've had a week of
camp and I felt anything different than you expected.

Speaker 9 (01:30:36):
No, I'm just I'm just learning as I go. You know,
I don't really know what to expect, so so as
I you know, learn, you know, don't let stuff happen
twice if I do make mistakes. But but really it's
kind of roll with the punches and learn while you're
here because it's you know, it's our first year doing
this as rookies. But it's been good.

Speaker 1 (01:30:50):
We're talking to you.

Speaker 4 (01:30:51):
Fellow draft made jt Te mom Alaw and he mentioned
how he felt like he needed four shopping carts to
get all the snacks for the D line room. You're
shopping experience, Do you feel like a mother of seven
kids for the tight end room?

Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
You have to do anything like that?

Speaker 9 (01:31:04):
I will say the tight ends, it's a little it's
better shot for the tight ends that is the D line.
So that wouldn't that wasn't too bad. And I think
they were happy with the with the snacks I brought
him for the room. But but yeah, I definitely am
happy to be a tight end when it comes to,
you know, the snack situation.

Speaker 1 (01:31:18):
So the tight end snacks a little bit of everything.

Speaker 9 (01:31:22):
Uh, nothing super healthy if that's what you're looking for.
But but yeah, really just the basic snacks, cookies, chips,
some some gummy stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (01:31:31):
So Michael Pittman Junior had told us that he needed
a ride to believe target or one of these days,
and we call you, so can you take us through
that experience? He gave us his perspective, He said, you
were great. You'd probably get you five stars if you
were an uber. But from your perspective as a rookie,
can you not answer that call?

Speaker 9 (01:31:47):
Well, that's the problem. I answered it right, So if
I didn't answer it, I might have been all right.
But but no, I got got a lot of respect
for pitt and he's been you know, a great you know,
vet in the program for me and it's helped me
out some things. So I'm you know, I'm willing to
drive him five minutes down the road if that's what
it needs. But yeah, that's that's part of the duties,
right as a rookie, you got to you gotta do
some stuff for the older guys. But but that was fun.

Speaker 5 (01:32:06):
So here you are a tight end. I had read
somewhere where you're the high school quarterback that dreamed to
be in a full back and you end up being
a tight end. Kind of take me through that, that metamorphosis,
that process. Yeah, I think it.

Speaker 9 (01:32:18):
Uh the basketball film out of high school help That's
something that that the tight end coaches really liked.

Speaker 1 (01:32:22):
But but it did take me a.

Speaker 9 (01:32:23):
While kind of to get the fundamentals of the block.
And I feel like I always kind of had the
want to to do the block, but it's a lot
more that goes into it than just, you know, wanting
to throw your head in there. So I think that
was the biggest thing for me when I was first
switching the tight end was was really how how big
a difference you know, your hand in an inch different
position makes.

Speaker 5 (01:32:41):
How much does having had that experience at quarterback though,
help you be in a tight end?

Speaker 9 (01:32:46):
Yeah, I think it helps just because we do, you know,
we do a lot within the offense, moving around emotions
and different different positions. So I think kind of just
understanding plays as a whole has helped me be able
to do a lot of different stuff within within the offense.

Speaker 4 (01:32:58):
Any individual goals or Tyler Warren here as a.

Speaker 9 (01:33:01):
Rookie, no, I mean as far as far as I
go as an individual, just being the best teammate and
making sure I'm doing my job and I'm helping the
offense and never you know, holding them back or doing
anything to cause negative plays or stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (01:33:14):
I do want to go back to draft night, just briefly.
I believe the Cult War are your only Top thirty
visit and if I'm not mistaken, So, did you think
that that was going to be the spot you ended
up when Thursday night rolled around or what was the
first thirteen picks or so like for you?

Speaker 9 (01:33:28):
Yeah, I mean you have an idea of then you
really don't know when you're sitting there that night and
you're just waiting to waiting to get a call. But
I did, you know, I felt good about Indian I
was hoping that's where I ended up, and so it
worked out really well. But but yeah, as much as
you might think you know that night, you're kind of
just you're really just sitting around waiting and it's a
weird feeling. But I'm glad it worked out the way
it did.

Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
Tyler. We've seen a few of your one handed catchers
throughout some of the team here is obviously you're not
expecting those throws to happen. But is it instinct?

Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
Is it town?

Speaker 3 (01:33:54):
Do you work on catching bad passes or off target passes?

Speaker 9 (01:33:58):
Yeah, I think that's just kind of when the air
it's you know, it's supposed to be mine, I'm going
to do everything I can to catch it. So I
think that's kind of you know, the mentality you have
as a receiver is you know, it's your ball in
the air, so you gotta do whatever you can to
catch it.

Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
And do you give a little grace because you were
a quarterback at one point You're like, you know what,
I probably didn't put it everything where I needed to
put it when I was in high school.

Speaker 6 (01:34:16):
No, I was.

Speaker 9 (01:34:16):
I was not a perfect pass by any means. But uh,
but they got a lot going on so so I mean, sorry,
job to make them right.

Speaker 5 (01:34:23):
Yeah, you never know, getting getting shut from behind, or
you have to step up, or you got to throw
around a guy. You go throw a guy. Uh, last
thing for me, how have you found in d so far?

Speaker 3 (01:34:34):
It's been hot since I got to camp.

Speaker 9 (01:34:36):
But uh, but no, I like it a lot and
there's a lot of you know, cool areas around the
city and the downtown is is more my my style
of downtown. Right, it's not a it's a big city,
but it's not like a New York city, right, so
you can still be down there. It's not super crowd.
So I really like it a lot, and I you know,
love the community around it.

Speaker 5 (01:34:50):
Have you run into fellow Big ten Alm Caitlyn Clark yet.

Speaker 1 (01:34:53):
Though I have not.

Speaker 4 (01:34:54):
Okay, that'd be cool though.

Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
Last one on my front, I know you were behind
a lot of NFL ros in just your tight end
room at Penn State. How did that prepare you for
the next level? Just I guy kind of waiting your
turn and then realizing when you did wait your turn,
you're right behind future NFL player.

Speaker 1 (01:35:09):
Yeah, I think that.

Speaker 9 (01:35:10):
You know, that's part of playing tight end at Penn State, right,
You're gonna play with with other guys that are going
to play in the NFL. And I think it only
made me better. I got to learn from him and
and you know, compete against them for a spot and
it worked out the way it did. But uh, but yeah,
I think that just kind of speaks to, you know,
what Penn State does as recruiting tight ends and how
they develop them.

Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
So I'm I'm I'm happy.

Speaker 9 (01:35:30):
That's why I you know, went to play tight end.

Speaker 5 (01:35:31):
Tyler State, thanks so much for stopping by. We appreciate.
Don't be a stranger.

Speaker 4 (01:35:35):
As time goes on, We'll talk to you soon, Yes, sir,
appreciate y'all.

Speaker 5 (01:35:38):
And we appreciate the chance to talk to him. Tyler Warren.

Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
And I was telling Kevin yesterday too, And and you know,
like Rick, I've been around a while a while, these
kids just keep looking younger and younger.

Speaker 5 (01:35:48):
All the time.

Speaker 2 (01:35:48):
You see this incredible athlete that's physical and does.

Speaker 5 (01:35:54):
All these great things. But man, he is he is
a still a young man, a lot of time to grow,
a lot of ways to grow.

Speaker 3 (01:36:01):
Yeah, I'm not sure if we're on right now.

Speaker 7 (01:36:05):
Mike.

Speaker 3 (01:36:06):
Oh, Mike, sounds a little weird. I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (01:36:07):
Yeah, I don't know what happened to our headphones.

Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
But yeah, he's, you know, big time player and obviously
someone who I think can make a big difference with
this group. And I think we've seen that early on Kevin,
because he's someone who is capable of catching the not
so pretty passes and there might be a few of those,
whether it's Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson when he gets
his opportunities. And also he's just like a no nonsense guy.
I feel like him and Shane Stichel will probably be

(01:36:31):
kindred spirit when it comes to the approach to the
game and maybe not being you know, as big personalities,
but just making sure you show up when you need
to on Sundays.

Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
And they will move him around. I am. I can't
stress that enough. I think if anybody's been out there
at Grand Park, he is not just this in line
blocking tight end. I mean they are going to split
him out and blame a fullback and blame a wild
wildcat and they threw a shovel pass to him. He
is going to be moved around a whole lot that

(01:36:59):
at the Colts in short yardage, the Colts inside the ten,
the Colts. You know, I don't want maybe want to
stretch you out of the red zone, but I think
inside the ten in short yardage that might be their
most elite element to their entire football team. A combination
of Richardson or Jones. I mean, for anyone again that

(01:37:19):
goes out to Colts practice, Daniel Jones can scoot. I
mean he's not Richardson, but like he is no statue
by any means, so Jones can make a play of
this legs obviously Jonathan Taylor, and then with Tyler Warren's
element what you saw at Penn State in a variety
of ways, how they utilized him. I think that is
the area of this Colts team, which it might sound
like a minute thing of like, oh wow, they're good

(01:37:40):
in short yardage. Who cares if you get into a
third and goal from the two and you now turn
that into seven instead of losing two yards and having
to settle for three, that's a four point play. Four
point plays add up a lot with parody in the NFL.
So I think that element of the Colts short yardage again,
goal stuff, I think they're going to be very, very

(01:38:02):
good and very dynamic.

Speaker 2 (01:38:03):
How much you put on his plate early on, you know,
it takes a whiles for rookies to kind of get everything.
How many how much is he involved in packages, this,
that or the other thing. I don't want to make
it sound like as bullish as I am on the
Colts and him and in this offense. It's not like
I see him becoming Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 5 (01:38:18):
Out of the gate or anything like that.

Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
But I do think that he'll be used a lot.
How much do you think they'll put on his plate, James.

Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
I think he'll come in and be there tight end one.
I think that's a fair statement. I know my male
Cox is kind of rotating with him, but from a
talent standpoint where he was drafted, he should be a
starter this year. How much on his play, I think
it depends on how well he can block, And he
did say he has to improved in that area as
he makes tradition to the NFL. And I know he's
got the want too, as he alluded to in the size.

(01:38:49):
But as I've heard from a few coaches in the NFL,
tied end. You know, outside of quarterback is one of
the hardest business to learn because you're learning two things.
You got to be able to receive and you got
to be able to block. And this isn't you know,
high school of college. These guys are really good and
so if he can get I think more acclimated on
that side of things, I don't worry about the receiving
at all. He's got talent there. It's the blocking part

(01:39:11):
that that I think. If he can get that acclimated
pretty quickly, then Yale he'll have a huge role for
this team. And then obviously it comes off to the quarterback.
Can you get him the ball?

Speaker 5 (01:39:20):
How much do you think they'll put on his playcam.
I even watched the culture.

Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
Yeah, I think a good amount. I mean they clearly,
I mean are trying to put him into a lot
of different situations in camp, and you know, when you
get in the regular season, you know, there's just an
element of week to week. You know, the game plan is, Hey,
we've got our Warren trick ish play inside the ten,
let's drill it this week. You know, it's not like,
you know, the whole playbook is open every single week.

(01:39:44):
You obviously focus on specific plays. You practice those plays,
so you know you brought up the quarterback angle to
him several times. I think that acumen is there with him.
You know, they got a new offensive coordinator at Penn
State this past season, and you know he kind of
implemented a lot of this stuff with Warren. You know,
Warren wasn't this dynamic tight end from day one at
Penn State. You know, again, high school quarterback wasn't this

(01:40:06):
super highly ranked recruit, So you know they felt the
need and yeah, I think I've told this story before,
you know, watching him in the Big Ten. I watched
that USC game a lot where he took over the
game and got them back and to win that game.
But you know, watching the Orange Bowl against Notre Dame,
I found myself as that game moved along, exhaling such

(01:40:26):
a sigh of relief when Penn State didn't give him
the football. It was like anybody but Warren. And ironically enough,
Penn State didn't have a wide receiver catch a ball
in that game and they still almost beat Notre Dame
without that. And Warren was just that good. He was
that freakish.

Speaker 3 (01:40:43):
Dynamic Keimon's eyes right now, he looks terrified looking back.

Speaker 4 (01:40:47):
When he sat down, I was like, if you knew
how much disdain I had of you, you know, back
a couple of months ago, you'd probably be upholled at me, frankly.
But he was that dynamic of player. Now, one thing
I am curious about was like, so much of that
element to him was sheer physicality, was almost throwing dudes
out of the club. Was you know these arm tackles

(01:41:10):
he just brush off. Does he have that same king
of the playground element to him in a man's league?
You know, we watched firsthand Grover Stewart take Jonathan Taylor
and tossed him into the ground pretty easily yesterday. And
Jonathan Taylor is by no means a small running back.
It's different up at this level. Does that happen to
the degree that it certainly did appen?

Speaker 5 (01:41:31):
Sate, Well, it's gonna be a lot of fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (01:41:33):
And again, how much he contributes blocking along that offensive line.
We talked about that a little earlier. You feeling okay
at center and right guard at this.

Speaker 3 (01:41:43):
Point in time, Yeah, because real football hasn't been played
just yet, So I would say to Kevin's point from earlier, yes,
the offensive line looks okay. They looked pretty good throughout
the first few first two Sorry Padditt practices. I think
Magansalvez I was talking to, you know, coach Venturi actually,
and it's in my story that just came out on

(01:42:03):
the athletic He was saying he likes Meganzolve has a
lot more inside and actually our draft guru, Dame Brugler
projected him to be a guard in his pre draft evaluation,
so you know, maybe he can you know, be a
little less on that island by being sheltered in that
offensive line, so he's shown some promise there. And then
the centers keep rotating with Danny Pincer and Tanner Borderlini.

(01:42:26):
So we'll see how the shikes.

Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
Out all it's gonna be a lot of fun to
watch and we'll truly, we were talking to Rick yesterday too,
we start to get a better feel for how things
are going when they play other teams, you know, next
week with the Ravens, a little bit later on, you know,
they'll play the Packers and the rest of their preseason schedule,
because at some point in time, it's when you're playing
against each other every day and the offense had a

(01:42:47):
really good day, Well, everybody knows kind of what's coming.
At this point in time, they know each other, they've
gotten a good, you know, grip on on what their
opponent is doing right now, and sometimes you wonder, is
our offense playing that well or do we need to
worry about the defense?

Speaker 5 (01:43:01):
Is the defense playing that well today? Or do we
need to worry about the offense.

Speaker 4 (01:43:04):
One thing coach Nterry said with us yesterday, and by
the way, if you missed that, that's up on the podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:43:09):
JT.

Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
Twumaloau, the second round pick out of Ohio State. We also
had on yesterday. He said something to the effect with
Daniel Jones. We've talked so much Richardson, but with Jones specifically,
Coach said, can you rehab the New York experience of
Daniel Jones? And you know, Sam Darnold obviously played in
that market, you know the infamous quote of you know,

(01:43:31):
I'm seeing ghosts on Monday Night football and obviously had
a great year with Minnesota last year. But like, how
do you look at Daniel Jones in New York? Do
you look at and say, ah, bright lights are just
too much for him and he'll be better suited living in,
you know whatever, the middle of Indianapolis. Or do you

(01:43:52):
view it and say the scar tissue of what he
went through and largely failing is too much to overcome.
And that's one of the hard things with Joones specifically.
It's like did the New York experience was it simply
just too much and now he's more comfortable on calmer etc.
Et cetera, Or did it ruin him?

Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
Well, that's that's the fear that I would have. Did
he get ruined?

Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
But I would think it'd be more. There were a
lot of things working against him. I thought that that
offensive coaching staff at times when he was there, was
awful and didn't know what they were doing sometimes. I
also thought that that offensive line put him in a
lot of tough spots all the time. What I like
about them picking up Daniel Jones on the contract that

(01:44:37):
they did, which not breaking the bank for a quarterback,
bring him in for what fourteen million a year something
like that. I like that you take a chance on a.

Speaker 5 (01:44:44):
Guy that at least you saw what he's capable of
doing in that twenty twenty two season. You know that
he's capable of playing at a fairly high level in
the NFL. Can he do it consistently and too?

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
Kevin's point, can he overcome all the bad things that
happened to him and that he did himself over the
past two seasons.

Speaker 3 (01:45:02):
He's had one great year of football, one good year
of football. And so to your question, Kevin, about you know,
is he better suited or even what maybe Rick alluded
to yesterday, better suited for the indie market than New
York market. I'm not so sure because in this market,
it's quarterback play that's why I thought Anthony Richardson faced

(01:45:24):
a ton of pressure from the start of his career.
Not only now you come to the franchise where outside
of Peyton mann Andrew lux is moving to Indianapolis, they
have stunk, they're irrelevant. So around here people are used. Yes,
fair enough, but again that's probably a future Hall of
Famer right there. So outside of those three dudes, that's

(01:45:46):
who you're going to be compared against. And obviously a
lot of it will be more so to pay Manning
Andrew Luck. So I don't think you can come here
and kind of look at it differently. Maybe from a
media standpoint, it is it as harsh from just the
volume of people around you, But no, I don't think
that it necessarily is less pressure. If anything, I think
it's more because to me, this is Daniel Jones's kind

(01:46:08):
of last gasp.

Speaker 4 (01:46:09):
Yeah, and even if you don't talk the pressure game
on field, and this goes for any resurrection project that
you have. Do you view it as that guy is
scarred from it not working out in the first place
that he was, or do you look at it as, no,
that was an important like learning curve, you know, things

(01:46:31):
like that, and he needed to have real growth and
all those things. I think it's a fascinating debate there.

Speaker 1 (01:46:39):
That.

Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
Having said all that, the hope is that Daniel Jones
never really gets a chance here, right, I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
At the end of the day, that's the hope.

Speaker 3 (01:46:48):
Correct, that will be the hope, but it will be
a bit of a naive one just because of the
injury history with Anthony Richardson. So that to me is
also such a big factor that we can't predict. We
can look at the completion percentage throughout training camp and
how he's throwing the ball and how he's reading the
defenses and all those things, but we cannot predict that
in two or three, you know months, is he going

(01:47:11):
to be available for his team when it matters the most.
Because Anthony Richardson, we all know the stats, seventeen miss
games due to injury throughout the first few years of
his career, and he's never started more than four games
in a row. He's never played more than a month
straight in the NFL. And you have to do that
if you want to be the guy.

Speaker 2 (01:47:27):
All right, let's check it down and let you know
what's happening today, tonight, and tomorrow.

Speaker 8 (01:47:31):
You're on the fan the morning Checkdown on ninety three
five and one oh seven five the Fan.

Speaker 2 (01:47:38):
We are in the studio today because the Indianapolis Colts
are quiet up at Grand Park today.

Speaker 1 (01:47:42):
They are off.

Speaker 5 (01:47:42):
They will return Kevin Bowen tomorrow night at eight pm
for what the cults are calling a situational scrimmage under
the lights.

Speaker 4 (01:47:49):
They've never done this, two hours eight to ten pm,
bringing anlines, right, I guess they are bringing in some lights.
But yeah, it sounds like a situational scrimmage, so it.

Speaker 1 (01:47:58):
Should be a grave.

Speaker 3 (01:47:59):
Just bring some struggle, Kevin said, just put up your phone.

Speaker 5 (01:48:02):
Everybody goes out.

Speaker 1 (01:48:02):
There's a phone party.

Speaker 4 (01:48:04):
Have Mark Dyke in DJ as you walk in Mouse
there you go. So I've there one of the longer
breaks of Camp air. It's like a fifty hour break
from when yesterday's practice endo, which was the longest and
hottest day of camp. I'll be curious, James I sire
Franklin makes his debut tomorrow maybe this weekend. He certainly
is looking like a dude that is nearing a return.

(01:48:24):
He usually works out on the side field and is
working up quite the latter there. So we could get
the camp debut of Zia Franklin very soon.

Speaker 1 (01:48:32):
Let's put the game of is it acid or a
glistering breath strip? That's what.

Speaker 5 (01:48:38):
Just spice things right up.

Speaker 4 (01:48:39):
It's quite the return to school party there from Mark
Dyk and there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
All right, the Indiana Fever at home tonight over at
the field House. They'll be taking on the Phoenix Mercury
and Kevin's favorite former fever.

Speaker 5 (01:48:51):
It's gonna be introduced on the scoreboard tonight right.

Speaker 4 (01:48:54):
Yes, her name again is to want To Bonner, So
we'll have to wait and see if we do get
a tribute video tonight for her and what the pleasant
Trees will look like. I guess she will enter the game, right,
she won't actually be announced with the starting lineup, and
we'll see about Sophy connyem too against her former team.
So looking forward to this one again. Caitlyn Clark going
to miss what is what a four straight game since

(01:49:15):
the all start break and at this point I don't
even think we've got a return to practice yet. So
this is going to last into the month of August
at least.

Speaker 2 (01:49:25):
And that one again starts at seven pm. We'll have
the fan pregame for you at six forty five with
Eddie Garrison right here on ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:49:33):
Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
Later on today, the Reds and Dodgers play at seven
to ten, an afternoon game. Mark you can watch the
Cubs taking on the Brewers today.

Speaker 1 (01:49:43):
Boys, can we get that done before the trade deadline?

Speaker 2 (01:49:45):
Saint Louis will be hosting the Marlins later on tonight,
and your South Siders James Boyd will play an afternoon
game at home against the Phillies.

Speaker 3 (01:49:56):
Get back on the winning track, White Sox, How did
that winning tren It doesn't really ring a bell or
sound very good because this is not possible. It seems
like for the Chicago Sports.

Speaker 1 (01:50:07):
White Sox have been playing better baseball since the All
Star Break.

Speaker 3 (01:50:10):
I know, which is so crazy to even.

Speaker 5 (01:50:11):
They couldn't have played worse though than they had the
first two months.

Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
They could have they could have been the Colorado Rockies.

Speaker 4 (01:50:17):
The Rockies describing the Anthony Richardson incremental improvements here describing the.

Speaker 3 (01:50:22):
White I can get him when it comes to pettiness.

Speaker 4 (01:50:27):
By the way, speaking of Dubs, the Ultimate Dub, thank
you to Evan Cheryl on Cluster Truck in Studio CT fan,
So that is c t When I think of CT
I think of that dude from the Weird Real World.
I believe his name was CT boy. He was so
intimidating CT fan. Your promo code there for Cluster Truck
and I'm seeing a little liv golf flyer. I think
they're doing some affiliation with that.

Speaker 5 (01:50:48):
Mark.

Speaker 4 (01:50:48):
Are we getting any more Jason Derulo music here?

Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
If you'd like something, I can play something for you.

Speaker 4 (01:50:53):
Because James Boyd and I standing next to each other
the other day, was it what.

Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
You say, James?

Speaker 3 (01:50:58):
Yeah, they played some Jason all I thought about you?

Speaker 5 (01:51:00):
Mark?

Speaker 3 (01:51:01):
That was funny.

Speaker 4 (01:51:01):
And Mark, have you seen the time for that concert?

Speaker 5 (01:51:04):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:51:05):
Double check me on this. I want to say, it's
like eleven fifteen in the morning. What in the world,
because well it's the pre round concert.

Speaker 1 (01:51:13):
Yeah, good lord? Is this like on the driving Range?
Is this like on the Putty Green?

Speaker 6 (01:51:18):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (01:51:18):
So I'm curious, like, where are the Jason Derulo concert
is happening here?

Speaker 1 (01:51:21):
You're gonna make it out there to live golf. I
have confidence that you're.

Speaker 5 (01:51:24):
Going to make of Chatham Hills the fifteenth through the seventh.

Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
James, what what do we say? The other side?

Speaker 5 (01:51:30):
Was that?

Speaker 4 (01:51:30):
Was that the song that we were also thinking of.
There was one more jam that Mark played a different one.

Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
Yeah, I want you to want Me? Yeah, that's that's
that's you hear that. Like all the weddings, I feel
like these days.

Speaker 4 (01:51:42):
Yeah, it's one of like the early songs as we
transition from like the older people songs to like the
younger folk. I think that's like a nice transition song.

Speaker 5 (01:51:49):
If you give you a reason to get out there.

Speaker 4 (01:51:51):
Sure, lust to move and your whole Ah. Yeah, I
don't know if I'll be out there.

Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
Coming up in a moment, we will talk more about
the great delivery from Cluster Truck and also take a
look ahead at the week that is to come over
the next really seven to nine days for the Colts
and Morris. We continue ninety three five and one o
seven five of the.

Speaker 1 (01:52:10):
Fan Westfield stand up. It's Jason Derumo at eleven Am.

Speaker 4 (01:52:17):
Bryson to Shambau just on everything you can imagine standing
in your front row before is shotgun two time at
two o'clock.

Speaker 1 (01:52:23):
There you go get James with the moves.

Speaker 5 (01:52:25):
That's twice you've gotten James out of his seat today.
How about that?

Speaker 1 (01:52:28):
I still need Jeff to hit the young jock. I
need that to happen.

Speaker 5 (01:52:31):
You might be waiting for a minute there. I'll tell
you what, guys. The last couple of weeks, I've had
some unbelievable food in some unbelievable places. I am so
happy this morning to be back with one of my
favorite all time dishes, the Korean beef and broccoli from
Cluster Truck YEP.

Speaker 3 (01:52:50):
Smelling up the studio good stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:52:52):
Evan came in last week and I feel like he's like,
we need Jeff back to get this Korean bea I
have so much surplus crean bee Jeff.

Speaker 4 (01:52:58):
He's looking for Cluster Truck in Paris.

Speaker 5 (01:53:00):
It was over there. Paris did not disappoint the things
you hear about food.

Speaker 1 (01:53:04):
There not a lie.

Speaker 5 (01:53:06):
There were no lies detected there.

Speaker 2 (01:53:08):
We were out yesterday. You got your Blue Power Aid yesterday.
That was as good as anything you've had for a while.

Speaker 4 (01:53:12):
Yeah, thank you to listener Brad for that. Greatly greatly
appreciate the cold Blue Power Aide. Also want to give
a shout out to a couple of other people that
have helped us out. Unfortunately, no more morning shows from Camp,
but Camp Blakenship on site engineer was outstanding for us
throughout the six shows that we did up there. Thank
you to Cam. I know those are early mornings, those
are hot days, so thank you to him and Grand

(01:53:33):
Park staff or Ken Yes delivering us ice cold morning
waters every single day. Thank you to Ken and also
Matt Contey and the Colts PR team. It can be
a little bit chaotic post practice trying to get all
the interviews sorted out, but trying to think of the
list of players Kennymore, Allowtu Latu, Josh Downs, j T.

(01:53:53):
Tumalowaw Tyler Warren. I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody else, yeah, Mmore,
I know, and John Evats and players as well.

Speaker 1 (01:54:02):
So yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
Bernard Ryman came on the show and then he got
paid four years later he did after Query and Company.

Speaker 5 (01:54:08):
Yesterday with Jake saw.

Speaker 4 (01:54:09):
Cole in the YouTube chat was pushing back against Bernard
ryman contract extension. James any issues with the lack of
Pro Bowls? I guess Cole had mentioned a few times
in there. Or you got no issue with Bernard Ryman's contract.

Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
No, maybe the argument will be better if you were
telling me all pros but everyone gets Pro Bowl notas
this year. So honestly, Bernard Roman would probably be a
pro bowler if he has a great season, or also
if he just wants to fill in for someone who
doesn't want to go to Disney. So I'm not too
worried about it. But in all seriousness, he's a very
good player. He's still relatively young at twenty seven, and
it's better to do it now than later. And I

(01:54:44):
honestly think if we look up and when we look
up in a couple of years, and if assuming he
stays healthy, the deal will look better as time goes on.
And that's my biggest thing, and that's why I kind
of commend the Colds for getting that done before the season,
because I'm like elsewhere you look at Cincinnati with Trey Hendricks,
different situation, I think, with the age and the position,
but also Michael Parsons, you know, Dallas has like a

(01:55:06):
reputation of waiting to pay guys is always kind of
dumb to me when you know it's a no brainer,
so they drag it out too. Yeah, and they become
more expensive because of that nice play yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:55:16):
I was thinking about defense and putting pressure on the quarterback,
and I don't know what it's gonna mean long term.
But we heard from JTM to him all out yesterday.
He had a really nice play breaking up a pass yesterday,
just long, just extension, and that could be a problem
for quarterbacks. He get those hands up and he's got
quick hands. He made a nice play yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:55:36):
Yeah, I wonder if he's going to give them some
of the inside outside versatility Kevin that maybe they lost
with Dieut. I mean, dial Oh Dangbo going to Chicago
and joining marks Bears. But I'm very curious to see
just what that means in this defense. But he's a
piece that surely should be in the rotation, and we'll
have some expectations on him because second round picks, as

(01:55:56):
most are expected to make some plays in that rookie
year and then lay out to a lot. I want
to see a jump from him. I think if we
look at players, you know, non quarterback, non offense, really
he's someone that has to make a leap after this season.
I would think we need to be talking about him
being a game record, just considering where he was drafted
and what that means. When you're drafted that high at

(01:56:16):
that position, you can change games and you can certainly
get paid for it too.

Speaker 4 (01:56:22):
Yeah, I would say after two days in full pads.
Let me emphasize that two days. But I think the
old line has been the better unit in the trenches.
There's been a couple of years, you know, honestly, there's
probably a couple of practices every year in full pads
where the d line just recks the day. Yeah, I
mean the quarterbacks just you know, they're blowing plays dead

(01:56:42):
because it's a sack and the quarterback can't even escape.
And yesterday, James, I don't remember too many times I
saw that. And I also don't remember too many turnover
worthy throws from either quarterback. It wasn't like a perfect
day for Jones and Richardson. I don't act like it
was that, But I would say I didn't recall many
like you know, dropped interceptions or risky throws or you know,

(01:57:06):
none of that really from either quarterback. Which you know, again,
when we talk about being consistent, we talk about keeping
the ship afloat, you know, things that the Colts desperately
need at quarterback. The first couple of days in full pads,
I think the offense is finally starting to get a
bit of its act together.

Speaker 2 (01:57:22):
Well, they're gonna need to do it, and we'll get
an idea of how they're progressing. Is as they have
these situational scrimmage from an night, but then a week
from Thursday they will take on the Baltimore Ravens. They'll
have some joint practices, and really it's those joint practices
I think we start to learn.

Speaker 5 (01:57:36):
About what this team is doing at this point in time.

Speaker 2 (01:57:40):
Are they actually getting better and improving or are they
gonna have to go back to the drawing board.

Speaker 3 (01:57:44):
Yeah, I think they're just ready to see somebody else
at this point, when we saw a Grover store throw
John Taylor down like he was a ragged doll, and honestly,
I was thinking, yeah, Grover's probably just ready to put
hands with somebody else. And I remember him telling us this,
I believe Kevin. This might have maybe last spring, and
he was like, yeah, after a while, it's one of
chokesbody out. I'm like, you know what, But he said
it in such a nice way.

Speaker 4 (01:58:03):
I know, and I know that sounds weird, but he
really did.

Speaker 3 (01:58:06):
I know, he's such a nice person outside of those
pads and then he puts those on and obviously a
lot of players going to a different mode, and he
is certainly one of them.

Speaker 4 (01:58:15):
Do you guys need a Charlie Woods update or is
that psychotic?

Speaker 5 (01:58:18):
Now? If you're gonna do it, now is the time
to do it.

Speaker 3 (01:58:21):
He just sound enthusiastic about that, Ken.

Speaker 5 (01:58:23):
Because I wanted, I wanted, I wanted to get it out.
I wanted. I want him to I'm interested in.

Speaker 3 (01:58:28):
He's just like, get it over with Kevin, who cares.

Speaker 4 (01:58:31):
Charlie was the son of Tiger Woods, is currently playing
golf at Purdue University. Purdue has arguably the best college
golf complex in the entire United States. Two great courses
across the street from each other. They're hosting the Junior
PGA Championships, So think of the pg Championship as a major.
This is the Junior PGA. It's a big time junior events.
Currently playing camping the harder of the two golf courses,

(01:58:54):
Charlie Woods this morning is four under par through his
first seven holes. He He's moved up forty two spots
on the leaderboard, currently tied for fourth. Boots on the
ground yesterday informed me that Eldrick was not there. Security
guard following Charlie Woods's group around though.

Speaker 5 (01:59:14):
I liked I like that update. I'm good with that update.

Speaker 1 (01:59:16):
Kevin's making a mad dash for the car when ten
o'clock rolls around and can get over.

Speaker 4 (01:59:19):
There and get up there by about whole sixteen something.
One of the toughest finishes you'll ever have you camp courses, Yeah,
and camping, his boy kicked my ass over the years.

Speaker 3 (01:59:26):
What makes sorry so challenges in front of Nora?

Speaker 4 (01:59:29):
What makes it so challenging is Nora still at the
age where she doesn't really get the cusswords?

Speaker 1 (01:59:34):
Yeah, not yet. Yeah, she's watching Blue right now, so
she's distracted.

Speaker 4 (01:59:37):
Max just says, smacking my booty and then he like
thinks he said, you know, ten cuss words after that
and just really cackles.

Speaker 6 (01:59:43):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:59:43):
Camping, it's long, it can be windy, there's some heather,
there's hazards. Pete Die is up to Pete Dye things. Yeah,
it's great, it's great. One of the best golf courses
in the entire state.

Speaker 5 (01:59:52):
I love it. I'm feeling generous today too.

Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
How about a family four pack to go see the
Indy eleven this weekend against the Tampa Bay rowdies. We
got that to give away right now, Markton, sounds good
to make me two nine ten seventy. I can't make
it too easy every day. We'll do caller five today.
Now everybody will be mad at me. Five whole callers.
How about that?

Speaker 1 (02:00:12):
Is going to learn some cuss words real quick?

Speaker 7 (02:00:15):
All right?

Speaker 5 (02:00:15):
Two nine, ten to seventy.

Speaker 2 (02:00:17):
You want a family four pac go watch Indy eleven
this weekend, and now's the time to do it. Gibbs
call and we'll hook you up. We'll finish up shrimp, Kevin.
Was the last time you went to a major League
baseball game?

Speaker 6 (02:00:28):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (02:00:29):
I think a Reds game last year? Maybe? Yeah, I
think so. I don't know all the years trying to
go to this point, yeah, I believe so. We usually
try to get down a great American ballpark, you know,
once probably every other year. So yeah, i'd say right around.

Speaker 3 (02:00:45):
There, James, not since I was probably in high school,
really that long. I think we need.

Speaker 2 (02:00:52):
I think we need to figure out when the Cubs
are going to be in Cincinnati next. I think we
need a show field trip to a major League baseball game.

Speaker 1 (02:00:58):
What do you think, Mark the Cincinnati early like tomorrow?

Speaker 5 (02:01:01):
Is it that already coming up?

Speaker 1 (02:01:03):
This weekend.

Speaker 4 (02:01:04):
I know it's maybe it's early next week. We have
to check that, but I think we need I think
we take Mark out of the car.

Speaker 3 (02:01:09):
Oh wow, dang.

Speaker 6 (02:01:13):
Like that?

Speaker 5 (02:01:15):
Do we drive it together the game?

Speaker 3 (02:01:17):
That's part of the fun. Somebody got to take that.
That lulls on the way back.

Speaker 4 (02:01:21):
I mean, let's be honest as much as smack. You know,
I try to talk. Mark tries to talk. It's Joel
Rickson's world and we're living in the brewery, is true.

Speaker 5 (02:01:28):
That's hard to that's hard to hear. I saw something
very interesting this morning on reds at Cubs.

Speaker 1 (02:01:35):
Uh starting Tuesday or Monday, August fourth, So next Monday.

Speaker 5 (02:01:40):
Training camp is probably not a good time to go.

Speaker 1 (02:01:42):
Kevin's not Brenda Wrigley. You need to check that box, man.

Speaker 5 (02:01:45):
No, you've never been to Wrigley.

Speaker 4 (02:01:48):
A ticking Rosie to her first noted name game. This
year we're going to Notre Dame Purdue.

Speaker 5 (02:01:52):
Have you gotten her to be a fan on? Just
watching on TV?

Speaker 3 (02:01:55):
I hope she's going to see the upset of a lifetime.

Speaker 1 (02:01:58):
I was gonna say, walks out of there with a wind.
You'll know, Kevin, she's gonna never going to meet with me.

Speaker 4 (02:02:05):
Again, dude. Now, the fact the amount of just like
weird feelings in my body when you guys just said
that is so pathetic. The fact that, like you guys
have fact Foyd said that out loud and my body
reacted in the way that it did is just Yeah, gosh,
I really got to tone it down.

Speaker 5 (02:02:22):
Yesterday.

Speaker 4 (02:02:23):
Uh easily the highlight we've seen so far throw that
was on the die, DJ Montgomery. I believe that would
have been eighty ar touchdown. I've said, I think I
said this. When Leonard's drafted, he's the white Anthony Richardson.
He's at his best when he uncorks it like that.

Speaker 6 (02:02:41):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (02:02:41):
I you saw that late in the game to put
the game on ice to Jordan face on.

Speaker 5 (02:02:45):
But you know he can move on the ground.

Speaker 4 (02:02:47):
He can move on the ground, he just cannot throw
it first second level. So I think we've seen that
in camp. James and I don't I don't know you
think Riley Leonard Jason Bean weirdly as a competition or
I mean we're one Anthony Rickson away from all of
a sudden if Reachedon has an injury.

Speaker 3 (02:03:05):
Yeah, mat Ley's probably still above Jason. I think Jason's
had a rough camp. I think so far, but in
my opinion, you'd probably want to bring somebody in Kevin
if one of those guys goes down. I don't feel
comfortable with Riley or Jason being being in a legitimate
backup role in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
No, you guys were talking about quarterback and just the
expectations of being a quarterback here. It's funny that happened
on cbssports dot com this morning. There was an article
where they ranked the all time list of quarterbacks for
every team in the NFL from thirty.

Speaker 5 (02:03:35):
Two to one.

Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
What do you think the Colts came in on that
ranking for all time quarterbacks?

Speaker 3 (02:03:41):
Probably top three.

Speaker 4 (02:03:43):
So if you count Colts three, sup pretty darn high.

Speaker 5 (02:03:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Peyton Manning, Johnny Uniteds, Andrew Luckbert Jones. With the four
that they listed there, they said, if Colts fans desire
solace after witnessing any these current state of affairs under center,
they need to look no further than their own record books.
Uniteds won three MVPs four titles as a prototype of
the modern quarterback. Manning was a calculated genius out of
the pocket for fourteen years. Jones also won MVP, and

(02:04:08):
Luck was a popular pick for the award before his
abrupt retirement.

Speaker 5 (02:04:12):
So I thought that that was an appropriate ranking. You
never know how those things are going to go from
the outside in, but I thought that was an incredibly
appropriate rank. So number three out of thirty two, I'll
take that.

Speaker 2 (02:04:21):
But that's the standard that whether you're Anthony Richardson or
you're Daniel Jones or anyone, you know, even Philip Rivers,
the standard at quarterback for this franchise is really high.

Speaker 3 (02:04:32):
Well it's really.

Speaker 4 (02:04:34):
Really ludicrous to expect these two guys to reach that competence.
Can you get to be a whatever, mid an average
quarterback in this league? And James, that's how I described
the competition so far. I would say the first couple
of days it didn't look competent at all. I think
the last couple of days it's looked like a nice

(02:04:55):
quarterback battle, not a Pro Bowl quarterback battle, not I
would say even and above at I'd say a nice,
average ish quarterback battle. Again, not an alarming amount of
turnover worthy throws by any means anything along those lines.
There's been, you know, for the most part, positive moments,
and you could probably stretch us back to Friday, probably

(02:05:16):
three or four good practices for them, and now we'll
see if it continues as we start to get shoppier
with the schedule.

Speaker 3 (02:05:24):
Kevin, I want to see when is the first time
one of these quarterbacks blinks, because it seems like when
they blink, they blink together, and they have bad days together,
or they have two really good days together, and so
will tomorrow night under the lights offer any more separation
or just sort of difference between the two, because each
day I kind of leave thinking that was bad or oh,

(02:05:47):
that was pretty good. So I'm curious to see how
that goes, because at some point you do have to
make that decision, and I do think as Shane's I
can keep stringing us along, and I will say, I
don't believe for a second when you add do you
know when you want to have a quarterback and he
says no, I'm wanna let this thing play out. I
don't believe that at all, not at all. I mean,

(02:06:07):
I know, I get he has to say that, but
there is no chance in the world I would ever
believe that. Shane Styken seem like the most planned out
person ever. So no, but for our purposes. Can we
see some of that decision making in real time by
who plays better as these practices continue to stack up,

(02:06:27):
and obviously next week is big with the joint practice
in the preseason opener.

Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
Yeah, I think the joint practices will tell the tale
of who's going to be your starting quarterback. And really,
to me, unless Daniel Jones is just head and shoulders
above Anthony Richardson, he's probably still your guy.

Speaker 5 (02:06:41):
You need him to be your guy if you're the
cult and Chris Baller, don't you.

Speaker 3 (02:06:45):
Yeah, I get that. Some of the national narrative I
think is probably pushing the Daniel Jones train a lot.
And he's more consistent, and they brought him in here
and he got paid X amount of money and he
had other suitors. Whatever, He's done nothing to win the
job so far throughout the first six training camp practices.
Not to say that he isn't in the running to

(02:07:06):
start or he's lost ground, but he hasn't gained any ground.
I think whatever happened in the spring is kind of
old news to me at this point.

Speaker 1 (02:07:12):
I would agree.

Speaker 4 (02:07:13):
So, I mean a weekend of camp, the fact that
Richardson has performed the amount that he's performed. Yep, I'd
throw that in there again. I thought we would maybe
be at this point of camp and still be wondering
if Richardson was up to full volume. But that's been
no questions at all. By the way, Charlie Clifford used
to be in this market here for Wish TV. Now
in the Cincinnati market doing great work down there. He

(02:07:35):
just said the Bengals have released Zach Moss. I thought
Zach Moss had a really nice run here.

Speaker 3 (02:07:41):
He had a career year here. And what was that
twenty twenty three in the guests.

Speaker 5 (02:07:47):
How old was it?

Speaker 4 (02:07:48):
Yeah, boy, that's a good question. Twenty seven ish. Still
it goes for running backs, it goes. I know there
was kind of like a weird injury situation.

Speaker 3 (02:07:58):
Yeah, he had like the next thing I think last
year that kind of messed him up. But he had
a really good year here. Very nice guy. I got
to know him quite a bit. Actually did a story on.

Speaker 4 (02:08:06):
His back the naim Einz Trade.

Speaker 3 (02:08:08):
Yeah, I did a store on his background as upbringing.
He beat a lot of odds against the NFL. So
I'm hoping from a personal standpoint, he's able to lay
on his feet somewhere get an opportunity to hopefully continue
his career. But yeah, I'm looking at last year he
was placed on IR with a neck injury and missed
the rest of the season in November, so tough break
for him.

Speaker 5 (02:08:28):
I hope he finds something and look, you're a veteran.

Speaker 2 (02:08:30):
At least a nice thing people can do is let
go of you early in camp and maybe there's somebody
who has a situation where they need a guy like
Zach Moss and they bring him in and they give
him another chance there. Hopefully he's healthy and ready to go,
and good things happen for him as we start to watch.
You know what's interesting is as cuts start to happen
over the next ten to fourteen days. And I know

(02:08:51):
it's a little bit later now because of the expanded
rosters everybody has, But are there still places the cults
could go for further help as things become a bit.

Speaker 3 (02:09:00):
We'll see for sure, But one player, I do think
that it's kind of carved out a role. Maybe we
can get in some of this later on the week,
but some of those and I think a lot of
it has to do with when we get further through
our training camp, But Kevin, I think Tyler Goodson has
kind of carved himself out to earn a spot on
the fifty three man roster. Yes, he is a running
back technically, but he's done something on special teams to
make sure. I think so far that he is a

(02:09:21):
lock for that roster.

Speaker 5 (02:09:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:09:23):
And I've seen a little pop from DJ Gidden so
rookie out of Kansas stage some good stuff yesterday.

Speaker 5 (02:09:28):
Yeah he did.

Speaker 4 (02:09:28):
And so again that running back room speaking his Zac
Moss has largely been retooled behind Taylor Khalil Herbert, the
veteran coming over, and then James mentions Tyler Goodson. So yeah,
I would say, you know, if Taylor were whatever to
go down, I think they feel a little bit more
comfortable about what is in that room than they certainly

(02:09:49):
did last year.

Speaker 2 (02:09:50):
All right, this would be interesting to see what happens
tomorrow night and the the situational scrimmage and looking forward
to see how guys perform a little bit. Again, it's
not you're not going like a to other teams, but
I think it's an interesting time to show coaches what
you can do in specific situations.

Speaker 3 (02:10:06):
It's all on the line tomorrow, everything for glory, for history,
for your place in Colt's lore. You think that's going
down tomorrow at Graham Park.

Speaker 2 (02:10:14):
You think the coordinators will give an impassioned pregame speech,
pre scrimmaged speech.

Speaker 3 (02:10:18):
I feel like lou Anroomwoo just gives him a look
like I dare you not to go out there and execute.

Speaker 4 (02:10:23):
It's the other person for Charlie Woods. Is he going
to set the course record a camp?

Speaker 1 (02:10:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:10:27):
I mean he's got good jeans and probably a lot
of talent in practice, so I wouldn't doubt it.

Speaker 4 (02:10:31):
I do think tomorrow in the staff's minds matters a
little bit more. I think we're starting to get to
these points of the camp schedule. Thursday night practice against
situational stuff. I know, like we can poke fun at it,
but Shane Stiken's a football nerd.

Speaker 5 (02:10:48):
It's important.

Speaker 4 (02:10:49):
He has brought up situational stuff sudden change as an
issue first football team. So if he thinks that's an issue,
and he says that publicly, then when he has a
practice focusing on that stuff, it's gonna matter a little more.
Brian Mason, the special teams coordinator, said yesterday Tomorrow night,
it's a big Kicking night. That would be Thursday night
for that competition, So you know, I think tomorrow night,

(02:11:09):
Tuesday in Baltimore, James will be there, you know, Thursday,
the preseason opener. We are starting to get to a
little bit more of these.

Speaker 1 (02:11:16):
All right.

Speaker 4 (02:11:18):
We're through Welcome week, We're through the first you know
assignment or two. The tests are starting to pop up.

Speaker 5 (02:11:24):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:11:24):
We're looking forward to talking more about that tomorrow. And
thanks so much for hanging out with us today. We
heard from the rookie tight end, Tyler Warren, and that
was fun for him to stop buy and talk to
us for a few minutes. A little bit later on tonight,
we have the Indiana Fever hosting the Phoenix Mercury. That'll
be over at the field House, but if you can't
get there, you can listen to it live right here
on ninety three five and one A seven five. The

(02:11:44):
fan Eddie Garrison will have the fan pregame show for
you coming up at six forty five tonight. We've got
that going on as well.

Speaker 5 (02:11:52):
And real quickly, Mark, we have a winner for the four.

Speaker 1 (02:11:54):
Pack, right Mark, shout out to him, Mark with a K,
all right, not Mark with the c Mark with the
key on the other aisle of though during our meetings.

Speaker 5 (02:12:01):
Nora, great job today, you made it run. We appreciate you.
We'll talk to you Jake at noon, JMB at three
