Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning everyone. Welcome into a Tuesday. A little bit
win try outside today, and I've seen it worse, but
I've seen it a little bit better. Just gonna go
a little bit slower today, a little icy in spots.
I came up from the north side, probably took me
about ten minutes longer to get here. Everybody was kind
of just plodding along doing their thing. A patch or
two of ice here and there. I know that, James,
(00:21):
you're fairly close here in the city. I was your
commuting probably not too bad, right.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
No, it was fine. It's winter, snow is on the ground.
Drive slower. I always feel like accidents happened in the snow,
not because of the snow, because people do not know
how to drive in the snow.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Slow down, KB, you're kind of in between the two
of us. What was your commute like in this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yeah, a couple of minutes longer side rows meh. Main
roads I thought were pretty fine though, So yeah, safe
travels to everybody out there. I know a lot of
two hour delay, so definitely check that out. WBC's got
an updated list for those that it's part of the
morning routine. Make sure you check that out and I
think snow on November thirtieth and December first, just to.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
And I'm over it. I'm over it. And you know,
ever since I had the heart attack six years ago,
I have to take those blood thinner in the morning, right,
and so I get colder a lot easier. I'm just
letting y' all know now. I am full Long John
underneath the pants. I got the bass layer, long sleeve
bass layer underneath the shirt that's underneath my sweater. I
(01:20):
am toasty and ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
James Boyd, you look like you're ready for Notre Dame
IU Outdoors. Let's go years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Let's go. Put them on and I'll be there.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Ricord's rocking the Long John's, Oh yeah, yes, are up here.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Get those nice little tech ones. They're all black, and
then you know, they very nice, very warm. I like it.
Everything is nice and toasty, as it should be.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Marked Dan, Dan, this is more information than I need.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Okay, Well, I will say we got some relatively positive news.
I would say, Kevin on the Colt's injury front, if
you want to fill people in for those who.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Only have a few minutes here early in the morning.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
I was curious how you a transition. Were you going
to go, Well, the pay weren't very toasty last night,
but the Colts injury.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, I figured I wouldn't take too many shots at
the Pacers right now?
Speaker 5 (02:06):
Did they want to their last three?
Speaker 6 (02:07):
You know?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, Sauce Gardner just a strained calf. And I say
just a strain calf because you know, anytime you see
the manner in which he went down yesterday, I was
actually listening to a little bit of Pat McFee. Tyrese
Haliburton mentioned, I guess to Pat and the sweet when
he saw it, he thought, oh no, and obviously Tyres
Haliburton would be quite the source unfortunately when it comes
to that. So, yeah, strain calf going to miss some time.
(02:31):
Shane Stekind said, IR is not a possibility. So that
means within a four week window expect the return of
Sauce Gardener and the Achilles is good to go. So
I think by far the disastrous scenario has been avoided
with that. Obviously he's going to miss some time and
that is notable. But at some point here in the
next month, again there's only five games left, but at
(02:52):
some point here in the next few weeks, you should
probably expect him back.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
That's fantastic news, But I don't know you. They were
more nervous yesterday because of the way he was answering
questions in the locker room post game, right, James, because
you couldn't get a read on yeah, I mean what
he felt for what he.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, he said both things like I don't think it's
an achilles, but I can't say it's not an achilles,
and so you wait for more information, which you got yesterday,
which was positive. Now they did say, and shout out
to Kevin for asking this question, that IR is not
a possibility injured reserve, meaning if you were to go
on injured reserve, he would have to miss at least
four more games, which would knock him out until the
(03:29):
regular season finale. However, Shane Stikeen said, they're not considering
that he gave a defensive yes when asking if sauce
Gardner will play again this year. So perhaps it's more
like the kennymore the second situation from about a month
or two ago where he missed some time with an
achilles strain, and I think it was a three game
(03:50):
app since Kevin.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Anything else of note that Shane Stikeen was talking about.
Asked about let everybody in on yesterday.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
After that game, Kevin's best friend Michael Bagley.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, we'll see about a kicker try out. I think
there will be something, but we'll keep an eye on
that throughout today. You know, last time they did the
kicker try out on a Tuesday, that is player's day
off for those unfamiliar with how the Colt schedule works.
Then they'll get back to work coming up tomorrow in
full earnest. And I do say this half seriously. I
(04:21):
am curious how the weather will impact that. I mean, James,
you remember what this is about a month and a
half ago, Like Brett Rippen couldn't get here on time
in perfect weather. You know, he missed the first practice
as a cult. So you know, I you know these
kickers are not you know, you're not sending there say
jets to go pick up. You know, Matthew Wright and Harrison.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
You don't want to win. You don't want to win.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Who are random kickers out there? Is Eddie Pinero kicking,
Marcus Cairo Santos kicking. There you go. So yeah, Shane
was very noncommittal on it. He played the all defer
to Chris unfortunately is not available during.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
The seasons again by Joel A.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Erickson, and then he hit us with the well, I
love badge of the player, and I feel like whenever
I was growing up, he took coach.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Michael Badgeley a little bit, a little bit more like
in the He's my son light than I recall.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
I don't know if I'd go that far, but it's definitely.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
And he loved him. How many times he said that
he loves players on well, he says he loves.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
A lot of players, at least earlier this year. I
would think, backup, kicker, that's my thing though. I feel
like when you're struggling and the coach says I love you,
not a good sign perhaps for what's to come.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
He does have history with Michael Badgley, for what it's worth.
They were together in a previous stop. But still we'll see,
you know, there are anyway, if you guys want to
get into names, there are still some names from the
tryout back two months ago that are still out there.
Matthew Wright, you know I bring up that name. He
has kicked for three teams since then and has kicked
fairly well. They could you know, maybe sign a guy
(05:54):
off a practice squad somewhere else. So we'll see how
it plays out here coming up today, because this is
when the kicker try had occurred last time.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
But if he's kicked for like three teams, he doesn't
stuck with anybody, right.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Right, So their situations usually involved an injured kicker. Actually,
so yeah, kicked well, made all his kicks extra points
in field goal.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Oh the guy got healthy and that was that right,
all right, It makes a lot of sense. So anyway,
I got a lot to talk about today. It is
a winter full on. That's what happened sometimes the first
week of December, I felt like there was a nice
little three four year run there KP where it wasn't.
The winters just weren't that severe and we might have
got spoiled by that.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Do you think there's.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Anything louder than the hit of an upright in an
NFL game?
Speaker 1 (06:38):
I don't know, But it's more.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Of the louder noises I feel like I hear that's loud.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
I do think the mics at Pacers games are loud,
Like when you've shoot a brick at a Pacers game,
that brick is heard.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Is there a mic inside the upright too. There might
be can we get one on it for fair Baron's
extra points? We probably need that, But damn, I mean
I went badhen was watching the game yesterday and I
hear that badgely missed extra point. Yeah, it sounded like
a bomb was dropped.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
Not ideal.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I felt that in my soul when that one hit
by a.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Party, I would ask you the question, there's got to
be a mic on there.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
There's got to be a mic.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
It was so loud, and that extra point started left
to the upright. It was a miracle that it got
back to the upright.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
But it was closure of going through than the one
that was counted good by tennessee later on or by Uh.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
I can't go that far.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
I can't. I've watched it a million times. Was not good.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
One guy like clearly hit it that that that just see.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
The other guy missed it. I'm telling you, if those
uprights go straight up another ten feet, he doesn't. It
doesn't even hit the upright.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
I don't know if I can get into this.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
All right, let's move on there.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
And I'm holding it. I'll take that.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
I'll fight on the hill till I know the Pacers
matched the weather last night, just no for in that
first quarter. I thought that was really disappointing for me
because Cleveland is missing several guys, Cleveland is on the
second night of a back to back, and yeah, Donovan
Mitchell obviously is unbelievable, but that first quarter lead was
built by effort with Cleveland and a lack of effort
(08:16):
by the Pacers. I think that's what's disappointing. It's, you know,
talent wise, you're out of deficiency, that's obvious. But the
second chance points just a huge, huge number played from
behind the whole game, and you're not going to get
back in that game. So, yes, the shame says, you've
won two of three. But still last night, I mean,
I think Vegas had it a four and a half
point spread. You know, you felt like, okay, is this
one of these where you're catching the team in the
(08:36):
right scheduled mindset, you know, in terms of back to back,
could you be a little bit more competitive, and boy,
you just got you just got beat to every loose
ball in that first quarter.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
No like that, but turnovers were a problem, and they
just to your point one one more. Not just loose balls,
but rebounds too, the rebounds and turnovers with a difference
in that game last night, because I don't think I
think ultimately what Cleveland shot like fifty one percent, Indiana
shot forty nine percent, and it wasn't that big sta.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Points killed you.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah, gotta go get those other rebounds, possessions. Possessions will
get you, And that's what happened last night. But there
was a moment, did it feel when they got to
within six at the very end, towards the end of
the third quarter, like maybe a second night of a
back to back for Cleveland, Maybe they're starting to run
out of steam. Maybe Indiana can get on a little
run here. I thought that was gonna be the case.
Then I think Cleveland finished the third with a three
(09:23):
and scored the first few points of the fourth.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Fin Mitchel was so good. Yeah, I think it was
one of those fake runs. You know, you get close
and then all of a sudden it's like, oh, wait,
we have to go get more out of the old tank.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
I'm gonna say. And it takes so much energy just
to get back into the game, and.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
You didn't have your energy. Guy TJ McConnell and Rickle
Rick Carlisle at nine to day. By the way, Joel A.
Rickson coming up at eight, Rick Carlisle at nine. You know,
TJ McConnell only plays six minutes, Rick said afterwards, just
sore and didn't look like his normal self. Nothing injury related,
you know. Again, he's obviously missed time at the start
of the season. Friday Saturday was his first back to
(09:56):
back of the year. So you know, when you don't
have the inner g provider that McConnell is, you can
only live on Jay Huff and Garrison Matthews hitting threes
for so long.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Yeah, a lot going on this morning. It is very
cold outside, that's not quite to freezing yet. The roads
can be a little iffy depending on where you are,
especially the raised bridges and things like that that aren't
tethered to the ground that's been warm for a little
while now, So keep an eye on that. Just go
slow and you'll be fine. And I think a lot
check if you I've got kids too, A lot of
(10:28):
folks on delayed start today. Mark, did you guys hear
anything out in Brownsburg? No?
Speaker 4 (10:33):
I checked before I left the Ashley is her phone
by her, but no no word yet on a delay.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
They're tough out there. They just want to have time
for down.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
It probably have no will be driving in the snow
and any day it might start.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Two hours early. Today just to prove that. Westfield going
two hours away, two hour early.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Well, we've gotten the call of our school's out there.
Everybody's delayed, so we'll keep an eye on everything for
you as well. But we got a hot show for
you today. Carlisle coming up, as Kevin said at nine o'clock.
As the Pacers have one two of their last three,
dropped one to Cleveland last night. Donovan Mitchell Special tell
you all about that. Next it's ninety three five and
one oh seven ship down for the left Elliot. All right,
(11:16):
here's what's happening right here right now in Indianapolis. We
will start with the Colts. They've lost three of their
last four. They play a key divisional game on the
road against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, a place that's
not been traditionally kind to Indianapolis. But they are still
eight and four and in the thick of the playoff hunt,
and even in the thick of a divisional hunt at
the AFC South. That's why This is such an important
(11:37):
game coming up on Sunday at one o'clock. Question is
who will be healthy? Who will not be healthy? I
guess some good news, Kevin Bowe. They won't have Sauce
Gardner this week against Jacksonville, But it doesn't look like
a long term, devastating injury that we were afraid it
could be. On Sunday.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Yeah, Shane stake and said Achilles good to go and
that he will not go on injured reserve. We know
injured reserve means at least four weeks. So yeah, from
a long term standpoint, it's positive. Obviously Sunday is a
monumental game and you won't have Sauce Gardner and DeForest
Buckner is still on IR for one more week, so
that is less than ideal.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
H James Boyd. As far as other things concerning the
Indianapolis Colts, who will be the kicker on Sunday when
they line up, either for the kickoff or their first
extra point.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I don't know, but they definitely have to revisit that
topic after as Kevin has pointed out over the last
couple of weeks, the third missed point after attempt by
Michael Badgley. They've only had in the previous five years
combined four as an entire team, so the fact that
he has three and seven games is very alarming. Again,
if you're not gonna be the distance guy, you gotta
be the money guy inside of the distance. And even
(12:45):
in short kicks he's missing. So I wouldn't be surprised.
And we saw some tryouts come out later today with kickers.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
We do not know that for sure. We'll wait to
find out. Chris Ballard, though, has spoken glowingly of his
good buddy Michael Badgley, Has he not Shane steakh Change
Steichen not Chris Ballard?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Correct?
Speaker 1 (13:02):
All right? To make sure I get my facts straight there.
We've also got the Indiana Pacers dropping one of the
Cleveland Cavaliers at home last night one thirty five, one nineteen.
Two different times, the Cavaliers had a twenty one point advantage.
Pacers did manage to kind of cut it to six
towards the end of the third quarter, but never really
felt like they were going to get over the hump. James,
(13:22):
it was just one of those nights for Donovan Mitchell,
who scored forty three, and they just were out rebounded
and out hustled at times last night.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
Donovan Mitchell, what a guy?
Speaker 6 (13:31):
Do you know?
Speaker 2 (13:31):
His girlfriend is no Mark, No Coco Jones, who is beautiful.
He's won he at life right now. Shout out to
Donovan Mitchell. As far as the Pacers go, Yeah, no
Coco Jones for them and no dub last night. A
bad defense and a poor effort after I thought playing
pretty well over their last two games leading into that one.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
If you were watching the game and you saw TJ
McConnell get into the game and then never get back
after about five and a half minutes of action, it
was simply because Rick Carlisle, knowing that he's coming off
that hamstring injury at the beginning of the season, said
he was coming off back to back appearances and he
just didn't quite look himself, and so Rick thought he
would just pull the plug on that right here, right
now and not even get into it. So that's why
(14:11):
TJ never got back in the year.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
He didn't play in the second half. Then that was
the night you needed to match Cleveland's energy, which I
think is disappointing because Cleveland's coming off the back to
back they were missing some guys there, second half or
second chance points just killed the Matherin was awful. Jay Huff,
Garrison Matthews were literally outside of Siakam. Of course, we're
the ones that keeping the pacers somewhat somewhat in it,
and that's a stretch.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Thomas Brian get a tribute video.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
I was going to ask if you were there to
greet him.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
I was not there. I saw the snow and I
chicken down.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
You shovel his pathway away.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
I love me some.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Thomas Bryant my favorite pacer probably of all time. What
a great dude and hilarious player for very good reasons.
I would say more years for Thomas Brian or Miles Turner.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
Thomas Bryant. Thomas got him to you know, the finals,
baby game.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Three point shot man. Yeah. So anyway, the Pacer. We'll
try to put that one in the rearview mirror tomorrow
night and they will be back at the field House
hosting the Denver Nuggets. Your chance to go see Nikolajokich,
who's doing Jokic things all year again. Isn't he averaging
a triple double right now?
Speaker 5 (15:12):
If he's not, he's closed.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
It's just a standard with that guy one of the
best players I've ever seen ever as far as any era.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
It's crazy and you'll have the opportunity to watch that
tomorrow night. Meanwhile, the NCAA basketball rankings are out and
right now Purdue is still ranked number one, just ahead
of the Arizona Wildcats and Michigan Wolverine. Starting to get
some love. Indiana is now ranked number twenty two Kevin
Bowen in the basketball rankings.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Yes, it's a pretty good things started tonight. I know
the December Big Ten Game has struck some fear into
matt Painters squads in recent years. As odd as that
is to say, I believe they've lost a December Big
Ten game. I want to say three out of the
last four years, and not to it's sound like they're
playing like whatever Michigan or Michigan State in these games. However,
Rutgers tonight, I get that that venue has won that.
(15:58):
You know Big Ten teams year, they're awful. Rutgers is
terrible produce, favored by sixteen and a half. Fully expect
them to take care of business. So purdueill play tonight,
Butler will play tonight. I saw they came in in
the net rankings. He said, Indiana eleven, very very good
for Indiana early on. I saw Butler was twenty one.
Also really important for Butler and trying to produce a
(16:20):
non conference resume here. So you know, right now, you
know you're looking at three teams in state of Indiana
looking pretty good early in the season. Obviously a long
long way to go, but night starts in West Lafayette,
Bloomington and over there at forty ninth and whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
And the net rankings obviously a little more analytically driven
than just the like AP rankings are just writers who
vote on the poll every week.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah, yeah, again, a little bit more NCAA tournament centric there.
I saw the big dude for Purdue has made nineteen
straight field goals Daniel Jacobson.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Ooh, like that's that's if I throw that downstairs in
the basement all by myself.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Nineteen straight And they've played, haven't they played in that
stretch like Texas to It's not like they're playing you know,
Arkansas Pine Bluff and a bunch of six two dudes
nineteen in a row for Daniel Jacobson.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
He's gonna miss his first shot because you just said
that can't get to twenty because you gave him.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
The announcers jinks the Kevin Bonen Kiss of death.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
By the way, Butler will play on the radio here
ninety three five, one of seven. Five to the fan
tonight six thirty airtime, seven o'clock tip. As Kevin said,
they will host Eastern Michigan this evening. Indiana State. We'll
be at home to play Eureka Valpo at Marquette and
Missouri plays Who tonight Kevin Bowen.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Yeah, we're gonna be brewing the midnight Oil in the
Bowen household.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Nine pm. Tip for Missouri Notre Dame this evening. Missouri's
eight no this year.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
By the way, Yes, Notre Dame really needs it, really
really needs a big one tonight. You guys coming over.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
I will be asleep probably, but thanks for the invite.
Appreciate that.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
I'll come through. Shout out to Uncle JB. You're gonna
be to Nelly.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
You gonna be rocking Nelly to sleep.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
I ain't say all that.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I said I would meet her, you know, and I
will come over and say hey, nice to meet you,
and then you know, sit down and let appearents do
the thing.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
I found that badly mixed missed extra point. Would you
like to hear it? It is glorious.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Let's hear it.
Speaker 7 (18:06):
Alec Pierce with thirty eight receiving yards on that possession.
Man off for the extra point is Michael Badsley and
as you heard in the background, it smacks off the
left upright and it's no good.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
That's a gong shout out to Matt Taylor man from
being a professional, because I feel like I would laugh.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
It sounds like a firework one.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Yeah, it sound like a cannon, like after you score
a touchdown and you know, like the Buccaneers or something.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Yeah, yeah, that's what it sounds like. Raymond James Staten
was and Michael Badley missed extra point. Yeah, it's a
Purdue drum up close in person.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
I think that's that exemplifies exactly how things went for
the Colts on Sunday play.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Would you rather do that or do what the whe
kid did last night? Bad week for hose yep, first
Lane Kiffin and then Kicker. I immediately thought of Kevin
when that happened. What I saw last night, that's worse,
that's terrible. How do you pump fake a field goal?
Speaker 5 (18:55):
Attempt.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
How did he not get hurt? That's my first thought.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
When you just drag your your kicking foot into the
ground a good foot and a half.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
That was no drag. That man chunk it. That divot
when further than the rope, He's lucky. That was in
a grass field there. That looked like some of my
golf shots back in the day. I thought it was
an AI video when I first saw it, I thought,
no way, an NFL kicker is kicking this far behind
the ball.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
I was watching the Manning cast. They were having a
great time with that one last night, because you know
Peyton loves kickers. I don't know if you were aware
of that or not.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
By the way, like vander Jack very close, the Giants
are a complete joke. I know this isn't a New
York station, but I just want to get that off
my chest. They are complete garbage. That kick attempt a
dual car number three pick. I guess sleeping through meetings
and not showing up, getting bench to start the game again,
and then Jackson Dark getting lit up on the sideline
because you can't get out of bounds, and then saying afterwards,
well it's football, you should probably watch my high school
(19:49):
tape and how I played. All of you are clowns.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
All of you.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Uh, this is not high school anymore, Jackson. These are
guys that.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
I'm just like, I'm all right, I hope I don't
like look up in five years not playing in the
NFL anymore, dude.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
By the way, that one game in the NFL last night,
New England did beat the New York Giants thirty three
to fifteen. The one thing that did stuck stand out
in that game. I don't know if you guys were
paying to Drake may Can play football. There were a
couple of throws he made. They were just yeah, a
couple of really impressive deep balls. So now New England
heads to the by eleven and two. They are the
one seed, a half game up on the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
So just four weeks left and right now the AFC
will go through Foxborough, which in this market we have
said quite often over the last fifteen twenty years.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Anything else you guys want to throw him before we
move along here. All right, we'll talk more about the
Colt Spacers and some highly ranked basketball teams locally as
we continue through the morning. Here, it's ninety three five
and one oh seven five to the face.
Speaker 7 (20:45):
Alec Pierce with thirty eight receiving yards on that possession.
Man off for the extra point is Michael Bagsley and
as you heard in the background, it's smacks off the
left upright and it's no good.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
I haven't heard this one for quite a while, Mark Dykeden,
Where did you come up with that one? There?
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Going bank of songs here?
Speaker 4 (21:04):
I like the day figured ice cube is always solid.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Yeah, But speaking of ice cube, it's mid twenties right now.
I just went across the hall at WIBC. All the
school delays are on their website right now at WIBC
dot com. And they did tell me two hour delay
for all IPS schools at this point in time.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
So we start to list. We used to have to
watch the TV like it was a Super Bowl, like
it was the raft.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Wait for the crawl.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Yeah, it was like watching them for the lottery.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Now it's all on Twitter, it's all online. These kids
don't know.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Nothing flipping channels. Are they closest to my letter in
the alphabet?
Speaker 6 (21:38):
I know? Man?
Speaker 2 (21:39):
And then if you missed your letter, you're like, oh
my gosh, do I wait here does mom, just trying
to see if the school's open.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
You turn it on and you just missed the letter.
Oh yeah, I can wait another fifteen minutes now.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
For those at the end of today morning commute, I
didn't think it was too too bad by any means.
Side roads pretty math, but I thought once you got
to the main roads just kind of wet, so save travel. Certain,
But I think we're all in the general agreement from
our different areas of town that the morning commute maybe
a little bit longer, but nothing too strenuous today.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yeah, I think they've got a lot smarter as time
has gone on. Back in the old days, when it was,
you know, just horses and wagons. For me, James growing
up in Colorado, we missed. I missed my entire life.
They sent us home in the middle of the day
one time in Colorado uphill both ways. No, it was
just it was snow. You deal with it, put the
chains on the car and go. It's probably a little
(22:30):
smarter now with insurance and everything else going on they
used to have, so these kids they've got it better today.
People got smarter as we got older. I think, Kevin,
there is what happened.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
So did they even have snow days anymore.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
They just do like imact like is that a thing
where they just well, like so if Jake and Grant
can't come in for school, they say, Okay, we're gonna
hop on the iPad for the day. I would hate that.
I kind of liked the era I grew up in
where like we didn't have We had some technology, but
we didn't have And.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
I always feel like e learning for like the elementary kids.
I mean, what are these dudes just hopping on these
young kids just hopping on their zooms?
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Lear any means that you're going to be e learning
as well, right, So no child care for you, Kevin Bowen.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Yeah, I trust me. It seems very difficult.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
So check your specific school and district. But a lot
of folks in the area are working on at least
one and a half hour two hour delays this morning
on their way to school. And like I said, coming
in from the north side on the highway, a little
bit slower, Kevin, But I didn't find it too terrible.
Wasn't that bad?
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Yeah, a couple extra minutes from me.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Yeah, and you're like right around the corner, James. You
could probably walk the work as quickly as you drive
the work, didn't.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
You, No, not at all. That would be a very
long walk. But I enjoy driving and living close enough
to drive here.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
All right, that's what's going on on a Tuesday morning here.
It's ninety three five, one oh seven five the fan.
The Colts coming off a tough loss at home, a
divisional loss against the Houston Texans. They get ready for
another divisional game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and all at
all for a Monday games, it sounds like pretty good news,
Sauce Gardner. The guy you just traded two first round
picks and Ady Mitchell for is not going to be
(24:07):
lost for the season at this point in time.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Yeah, so Shane did say he expects him to play
and be back this season. And then on top of that,
it was a great question by Kevin to follow up
and then say, okay, Well is injured reserve of possibility,
which means an automatic four game absence, and he.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
Definitively said no.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
So they'll put more on the plate of the other guys,
starting with Shavarious Ward. And then I would say less
heralded players being Jayleen Jones and Makai Blackman.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
How do we feel about the state of the secondary
right now without Sauce Gardner and a diminished Mooney right now,
Mooney Ward.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yeah, Mark, let's play this audio from Mooney Ward yesterday.
You know, we talked a little bit about it on
yesterday's show. I feel like over the last couple of weeks,
Ward in particularly is a step slow, since coming back
from the concussion and cornerback to me is a position
where when you are step slow, everybody sees it. Everybody
(25:05):
can see it. And I thought, and I guess, just
go over everything with money War. The man has been
through just unimaginable, frankly things over the last year year plus.
Lost his young daughter a year ago. You know, we
talked a little bit about the concussion symptoms that he
had last month, was pondering if he would play football
(25:28):
ever again. So whether you want to look at it
from the personal tragedy or his professional life, he clearly
is dealing with a lot. And I think he's been
pretty candid throughout this past year about how that stuff
has clearly impacted him, and he mentioned yesterday it's impacting
his play right now on the field.
Speaker 8 (25:48):
I just just got to get my mind right and
my heart right, you know, once you know, once I
get my mind right, my heart right, I think my
physical physical body and the way I perform.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
That'll be good.
Speaker 8 (26:00):
But like I said, as long as my mind claudy,
I don't really play good all the time. So I'm
just trying to you know, focus in like and get
you know, get get focused in. I think I started
playing better.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Definitely feel for him.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
That was in response to when I asked him, what
areas of your game do you think you need to improve.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Because he said he wasn't playing to his standard previous exactly.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
And again this was not me thinking, oh, he'll take
this on a more personal journey route. It was in
my mind, I don't know something about technique or film
study or being a little quicker with your hands whatever.
And he really kind of opened up his heart a
little bit and vented about, well indirectly, about some of
(26:46):
the things he's been through. So I do feel for him,
and I do wonder how much of that weighs on him.
Just all of a sudden, he's been through clearly, and
I'm not going to sit here and say, you know,
it's time for you to move on or it's time,
but it is a point where I think professionally the
Colts have to ask themselves, can't he get back to
(27:08):
that level?
Speaker 5 (27:09):
And how can we help him do that?
Speaker 2 (27:10):
And I just wonder what that process looked like when
he mentioned this more mental than physical.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Yeah, And if you look at the rest of the season,
James five weeks to go against Sauce Gardner, the expectation
based off a change I can said yesterday's he will
return sometime the next four weeks. If you look at
the schedule at Jacksonville at Seattle home to the forty
nine ers, those are the next three games. You know,
Kenny Moore early in the year deal with the calf injury,
missed three games. Okay, let's say Sauce misses those three.
(27:39):
That means he'd be back for Jacksonville Houston in the year.
Which you know, again, if you're ranking these games, they're
all important, but those two could be absolutely vital. Now,
of course, you got to position yourself to be in
a decent spot come week seventeen, but you know, if
you're going to rank these games, the NFC games would
(27:59):
be formed five on that list of just general importance. Again,
right now, without crowd of the AFC is, AFC South is.
Everything is important, But if you're gonna rank them, if
Sauce is going to miss games, those would be the games,
okay whatever. If you're gonna lose any those would be
the ones that you would want to lose there. But yeah,
I just I really feel for Mooney war and I
(28:21):
think it is clearly impacting his play on the field.
I would like see Kenny Moore and a little bit more,
just like of their base personnel. It seems like when
they have just seems like Mikaile Blackman's on the field
too much, I guess to summarize it succinctly, in my opinion,
they continue to outsnap Jaalen Jones with those reps. I'd
like to see Kenny frankly just be that outside corner
(28:43):
with Sauce out the next couple of weeks. But you know,
the Jags are really banged up at wide out, so
you know that's a little bit promising. But the week
after that, Jackson Smith and jigb has been the best
receiver in the league this season, so there you go that.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
And he's been roasting everybody like no one has been
immune to what that guy's been doing. And you make
a great point, James. You always want a guy to
be able to get room to heal whatever is going
on with him physically, mentally, emotionally, whatever it is. You're
on his side. You want him to get better. But
there is a point where a team has to say, hey,
(29:16):
we're going to help you get better. But right now,
what's better for the cults is maybe we need to
do something a little bit different while you're on that
healing journey.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Yeah, I'm just curious about that.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
You know, can you get back to the love you're
supposed to if your mind and heart aren't one hundred
percent in it? And I'm not questioning the love of
the game. I mean clearly if you look at the
guy's story comes from nothing undrafted Jue Corau all the
above to getting not one but two pretty hefty deals
in the NFL, being a second team All Pro, most
past defenses in a single season. I think of forty
(29:47):
nine er history, all the above. But yeah, how do
you again? I don't want to say get passed that
because you can't get past losing a kid or lose
anybody you love, But how do you try to find
the best version of yourself in this, I guess new
normal for yourself or new state of your life where
there is going to be some tragedy in the hard days.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
So again, I feel for him.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Definitely don't want to speak out of turn when it
comes to what he's going through, but I appreciate the
candor as well. I mean, this is a guy who
he definitely when he gets in front of Mike, there's
probably some things that I don't know if I wear
his shoes, maybe I don't say, or I don't share.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
But he's as real as they come, and I can
always respect that.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Yeah, we just all wish the best for him, and
I hope that he continues to get through whatever he's
going through, because two of the three of us here
are dads. I can't even fathom what that must be
like Kevin, and you just hope the best for him
and his family and everything else. But on the other side,
there is a point for the Colts where they need
what they need as a football team.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
How about al Pierce Well hail Mary bat Down on
Sunday show, Al cam.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Bine him too for saying that he would have picked
it because he was like, could you imagine he was like,
you're taught to bat it down, and Alix Piers did
when he was taught. But he was like, could you
imagine catching a touchdown pass in a game and then
catching a pick in the same game and you're not
high school anymore.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
I mean when that ball was thrown, I mean he
obvious Pierce fashion, He literally positioned himself perfectly. Yeah, it'd
be the first one to touch it. I thought to myself,
if he picks us off, we might have an interesting
little fifty yard run back and see how long he
can make this happen here. But Alec Pierce, ever, the smart,
the former defender at Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (31:29):
That's his problem. He's not selfish enough.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Maybe he should play Maybe he should play corner right now.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Maybe you should have a little talk with him when
you meet the guy.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Yeah, yeah, shout out to Alex Pearce, who's actually from
near where I grew up, so I know him in
the family pretty well.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Man. He's turning into a terrific wide receiver. It's been
a lot of fun to watch. He saw last night
Patriots got to win over the New York Giants in
a game that wasn't even nearly as close as the
score might indicate Drake may look fantastic. The Patriots are
sitting there at eleven and two on top of the AFC.
Denver keeps winning games somehow, some way, by by crook,
they're ten and two, and then after that it's Jacksonville
(32:03):
eight and four. They will put the Ravens in the
fourth spot right now because they're leading their division at
just six and six, and then after that the Chargers
are eight and four and the Colts are eight and four,
So two are the Bills eight and four, And now
with that win, Houston is seven to five, just a
game behind Indianapolis. And losing three of these last four,
they've kind of lost that cushion they built up the
(32:25):
first ten weeks of the season.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Kevin, Yeah, there's no kind of about it. They have
lost it. So yeah, right now they are in the wildcard.
They have the sixth seed. Huge week, not only obviously Colts, Jaggs.
You mentioned Steelers and the Ravens right there, they are
tied atop the AFC North, So that is a big,
big game speaking from an AFC standpoint, and also Texans
(32:47):
Chiefs Sunday Night football right there, So yeah, we mentioned
it a little bit yesterday. I know people want just
get Kansas City out of there. Colts can't be greedy.
They need to root for the Chiefs on Sunday Night
football to beat Houston, and so I will continue to
keep an eye on that and again, any kicker movement today,
any kicker truts. Look, every option has warts when you're
(33:08):
dealing with a backup kicker. The problem for me with
Michael Basi right now is he has got warts in
two areas, three point shooting and layups. You can't have
warts in both. So who cares if you can't kick
from fifty plus your r It's fine. He's got to
make the layups and right now, those are the issues
that you have. So can you try and just band
aid that? Can you try and find somebody that at
(33:30):
least can give you steadiness from a layup standpoint. We'll
see how active the Colts are with kicker tryouts today
and what the rest of the week looks like.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Man all for the extra point is Michael Bagsley.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
It's the loudest sound in sports, and I feel like
it's only happened in the last four years that all
of a sudden so loud. I think it started with
what's his name? Was it Parky Double?
Speaker 5 (33:54):
How could I forget?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
I was gonna say that was right in your wheelhouse there, hunk.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
Yep, Matt Naggy look like a buffoon on the sidelines.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
What just happened? Your kicker stinks? And we knew that
all year?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
By the way, shout out to Daniel Jones's college roommate.
I heard them say in the telecast that his roommate
from Duke made the pad that he wore around his
injured fibula, and earlier in his career he had developed
some sort of medical device that he used for a
I think it was a calf injury earlier in his career.
(34:26):
Can you imagine, like those are your college roommates?
Speaker 4 (34:28):
Well, I liked how I was like, JJ Watt, what
are your roommates?
Speaker 9 (34:31):
So?
Speaker 4 (34:31):
And he's like probably drinking beer and being stupid.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
I mean, my college roommate j got thirty seven parking
tickets in a month span. I mean, like that's the
most thing he's proud of.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
Now, my cous roommate is living out in California, justice
side of LA and just bought a house, so he's
doing fairly well for himself.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Well, maybe. Yeah, I guess that's due education for you.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Yeah, yeah, shout out to my costroom is a mechanical
engineer and he is living the life. But yeah, I
did see that video and it looks like the pad
is on his left leg and it was three D printed,
if I'm not mistaken. And so yeah, smart roommates, and
I actually want to ask him about it, like, you know,
is this something where you really trust your you have
(35:15):
to really trust your college roommates with something like that,
Like how legit.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Is this business? Just going to team Yeah, I'm good, guys,
I've got my college to know.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
He probably won't get into it, but I'm very curious
about how that whole process goes, because this isn't just oh,
my friend gave me a hat to wear and promote,
like this is legit. I need this to go out
there and perform at the highest level.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Buddy's got a printing T shirt business.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Remember who was the running back who got the big
hats started? And he wore the big hat after the
game and it became like a big hat. I don't know,
but it became like a thing for a little while.
And he's like, oh, yeah, my friend made this company
and it's big hats and it took off.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
This is not that.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
This is I need you to make sure my leg
holds up throughout the most crucial point of my career
in a very violent gang.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
W do you Lane Kiffin rock in the big hat
at as LSU introductory pressor?
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Did you see the left is closed just like outside? Husband?
I love that his war.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Sec, I love it.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
He said that ole miss fans, we're trying to run
him off the road on the way to the airport,
and he said, I understand it.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
It's the passion of the sec. I was gonna is nuts.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
I believe him. Boy. The other part different down there, man.
The other part of that is, he also says, but
then I get here, l s U. It's been so
warm and everybody can't wait to see it and congratulates.
I'm thinking, yeah, go on a three game losing streak
at streetport and find out how that works out.
Speaker 10 (36:41):
Chef Kelly, how things are going right now? I'm sorry, Yeah,
they baton rouge. That whole area, Treeport baton rouge. Uh,
They'll turn on you so fast.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
So Kevin, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
I'm on a tangent here, but you are like my
resident college football watcher, expert type of guy.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
I love college football.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Can you explain, I guess, briefly, if that's even possible,
what the heck happened with that? Because I'm so confused
he wanted to coach ole Miss. There's no way you
should be able to do that if you take another job.
But also it's unprecedented because you had a chance to
win a national championship, best program season they've had in
a long time, and you leave, but you would have
(37:26):
got paid the same amount of money, but LSU has
more resources. So I'm just like, Okay, I understand that
you made the move, but it's just weird. I feel
like there's so many tentacles, and every time I read something,
I'm more confused than before.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
By the way, it's a great college of basketball. Sleeate tonight,
not just locally here if you're looking for something to
watch on Tuesdays, it's true. Basically, what I've gathered about
the Kevin story is Florida and LSU both wanted them really,
really bad.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
Right.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Florida was more hesitant about letting the lanekiff and operation
be run in their backyard. There's a lot that goes
with Lane, and a lot of it maybe might be
a little bit questionable.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
Did you kind of get like.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Not banished way? He was like not the hot ticket?
Do they go to Florida Atlantic?
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Well yeah, I mean hel Nick Saban fired him on
the tarmac and and you know he's got the U,
the Tennessee drama, the USC drama. So yeah, there's a
lot with Lane. I you know, I need.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
A book on this.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
So basically I think he views LSU is a little
bit more of a it's really hard to screw up.
But again, Brian Kelly is one of the few that
screwed it up. You know, when you look at it
from a head coach standpoint, what Les Miles at Ordron
and who else wanted to Yeah, I mean you know
all of it. You know, all those coaches seemingly just
followed a bet and you win there.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
But also the only one that didn't get fired eventually
was Saban, who moved on to Alabama. The other two
guys that won national championships were fired not too long
after they won those nationals.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
I think the old Miss nerves comes back to like
if we get back to being old Miss and you
start to have whatever seven win eight win seasons, will
they treat you like seemingly every other SEC program treats
you that seven to eight wins is not good enough?
And and I think Lane is also somebody that craves
(39:03):
a challenge and craves you know, wanting challenge to me
is the right word. But once a new opportunity.
Speaker 5 (39:10):
He's only fifty when it comes to coaching.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Holly did the NFL thing.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
When it comes to coaching exits, Lane Kiffin is on
the Mount Rushmore. He's all four heads because he's got
Al Davis given a PowerPoint as to why he's fired
in the NFL and escaping to Old the LSU and
all that it is.
Speaker 6 (39:27):
I mean, read this story.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
I read the story yesterday. It is from CBS Sports
about the Kiffin exit from Old Miss, and in there
they were describing the scene at the airport of the
Old Miss fans going the one finger salute towards coach
Kiffin as he boarded the plane. And I guess Charlie
Weiss's son, I didn't realize Charlie Weiss's son was the
offensive coordinator there. Charlie Weis Junior is also heading to LSU.
(39:50):
UH great writing detail here, James. You can appreciate this
boots on the ground journalism. It was mostly college age
young men decked out in new balances, but there were
alsoultiple children, including one infant wrapped in a blanket and
sucking on a pacifier. It's never too early, after all
to teach hate who what a bar? Well, if I
(40:13):
told Maddie, I'm heading to the local airport with Nelly,
we need to get out of the house into.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
The regional airport. Gotta flip this guy off.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
I've got outside.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
When you get I got a middle finger to get
up in the air.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
The only thing I will not necessarily well, I guess
the defend laying on is when people tell me, oh,
we like he's in it for the money.
Speaker 5 (40:31):
We all are. I'm gonna I'm gonna be very honest here.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
What you getting the money, if you would have been.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
Would have been the same if you're the old mess
side of that, right, it would have been the same, right, right.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
But for those saying like oh, even if they didn't
give him the money, then then you're a liar. If
if anybody comes to you and say, hey, you can do
the exact same job in a different state for six
million dollars more.
Speaker 5 (40:52):
You're leaving now.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Again, a lot of that has to do with the
money would have been matched, but the resources I think
at LSU are probably better.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Can we all get on board of this opening night
of college football next year?
Speaker 6 (41:02):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Yes, I thought about this, Yes night game, Yes, LSU
at I need this. Yes, inject into Vegas.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
I actually think that he would have to have a
ton of security to go back there.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
Yes, they said they go Ole Miss or LSU goes
the Ole Miss and Tennessee next year.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Oh, I just make make their schedule. All of Lane's
previous stops haven't played the Raiders to they're My only.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Prediction is that whether it's two years, three years, four
years from now, it'll end the same way it always
ends with Lane Kiffeit it will not end well for
him there.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
By the way, Florida at Duke, that's Cameron in door tonight,
Connecticut at Kansas Braylan Mullins back for the Huskies that
is at Allen Fieldhouse, And North Carolina.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
At Rock is Darren Peterson back?
Speaker 3 (41:46):
You think Darren Peterson The hope is he will play
him play in Vegas in that tournament there, so I
love that tonight he obviously got purduing Butler both playing tonight.
But from a local standpoint on campus venues, there should
be some great atmospheres and calle basketball.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
When my kids were little, like like Nell he is,
my favorite thing to do was just sit on the couch,
hold them and watch sports.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
I really thought for a second you were going to
say drive to the regional airport in Greek coaches.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Never done that. Maybe I should put Maybe I need
to get that off my bucket list.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
I'm trying to think who the Denver Broncos coach was
in nineteen, you know, ninety eight or something that you
could be booing Mike Shanahan.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
It was Mike Shanahan at that point in time.
Speaker 3 (42:26):
I guess you wouldn't be booing you.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
He won two Super Bowls to walk it off there. Well,
it did end well for him.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
Either Waite Phillips, you can give him the burden.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
There you go. Coming up in a moment, we'll talk
Colts with Joel a Ericson right here on ninety three
five and one oh seven to five of the Fan.
This is the predictable moment in time for anybody who
works in sports, television, sports radio, whatever, the people you
kind of know all of them now want to know, Hey,
(42:54):
can you get me tickets to the game on Saturday?
Have you gotten that yet? Kevin the Indiana Can you
know where I can find some tickets? Are you getting
any of that? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (43:03):
Good luck? Right, I just.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
Looked this up during the break, anything from if you
want to go to like nosebleed seats right now, you
can get secondary tickets at about four hundred and sixteen dollars.
What do you think, James, you would be paying if
you wanted to get Row one thirteen. I'm sorry, Section
one thirteen, Row three. This is over at Lucas Oil YEP,
(43:26):
Saturday night, Indiana, Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (43:29):
Oh, you're playing at least what five grand?
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Three thousand, two hundred and forty two dollars?
Speaker 5 (43:35):
Get out on it now for at five grand?
Speaker 2 (43:37):
Yeah, I have my high school principal reach out to me.
I want to say, might have.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
Been Facebook because that Taylor Swift.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Was coming to town a few years ago, Yeah, Indianapolis,
and he was asking me, because the Colts player Lucas
Oil Stadium, if I could help him get tickets for him,
his wife and his daughter, and I like the guy.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
I respect him, but I wanted to.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
I responded and said, no, that is not necessarily something
I can really help you with. But I wanted to
send him ticketmaster dot com so badly because that was
one of the dumbest requests ever got in my life.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
Gosh, what if you would have said that to him?
How would that have been? Like any relief if you
like finally saying to the principal, you're an idiot?
Speaker 2 (44:17):
No, I mean he's actually a really cool Dude's I
never had any issues with him. I just thought that
he was delusion or I honestly thought way too highly
of me.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Hardest football ticket in the last ten years for that building,
is that what we have decided on. You got to
go back to twenty thirteen for Peyton Manning's return. Sure
seems like that twenty twelve for the Super Bowl. I
guess Georgia Alabama national title was a big, big ticket,
you know a few years back.
Speaker 1 (44:38):
But but you got a much wider pool of people
looking for those tickets too well.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
And also it's driving distance for Indiana Ohio state fans.
Speaker 1 (44:46):
Yeah, let's turn our attention very quickly. Now of the
Indianapolis Colts. They'll be traveling to Jacksonville on Sunday, and
boy do they need a win. They need some good news.
And here to tell us nothing but good news. I'm
sure joy Ericson in the Star covers the Colts joins
us on the pay Less Liquors hotline. Right, Joel, nothing
but good news today? Right?
Speaker 5 (45:06):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (45:08):
Maybe not?
Speaker 1 (45:13):
What can you tell us? Do we have any good news?
Speaker 11 (45:17):
Well, it's good that it's good that Zaus Gardner's calf
injury is is not the season ending is not does
not appeared to be something that's going to keep him
out the entire time, So that that is good news.
I know there was a lot of a lot of
people who watched that happen and thought, you know, their
mind went.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
To the worst right away.
Speaker 11 (45:34):
But it sounds like even after a lot of times
when you talk to a player in the locker room
after after they get hurt, they'll say, you know, I
think I'm going to be fine, and then uh, it
turns out that, you know, the MRI disagrees. But this time,
this is this is one of the times that the
player was right about their own their own injury and
(45:55):
it's not a season ending or or something like that.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
I just remember standing in the scrum after the game
with Sauce Gardner in front of us, and of course
there's a bunch of cameras and reporters and Sauces describing
the injuries like, yeah, it felt like it was more
high up in my CAF, not really lower. And then
I have Joel behind me. He's going it was high.
He goes, yeah, it was high. And for a second
(46:19):
there I thought he asked him are you high? And
I was like whoall, Like this is not an appropriate
time to be asking those questions. But nevertheless, Shoe positive
news on that front. But we were talking about this
yesterday on the show in regard to the poor port,
and so I'll say the scene a little bit. I
saw the flag not a flag on kennymore than second
(46:42):
for the defensive pass interference, and I was thinking, man,
I'm always making jokes to Joel, who is our poor
reporter at these games, about having to do a poor
port for something tiki tak, but went over this time
and I was serious. I said, Hey, Joel, we might
need a poor port for real. So can you give
the listeners behind the scenes of what an actual poor
port looks like if you're the reporter involved in doing it.
Speaker 6 (47:02):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 11 (47:05):
You have to reach out to the league, usually through
whoever's in charge at the game. You reach out to
the league, and they want you to They want to
know exactly what you want to ask about. So for example, uh,
it wasn't enough to say, you know, the play work
anymore was called for past interference because you also had
(47:29):
to say you wanted to ask about the delay of
game penalty.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
You can't just say.
Speaker 11 (47:32):
One play and and then and then they want to
know that ahead of time.
Speaker 4 (47:39):
I get a phone call.
Speaker 6 (47:41):
I know.
Speaker 11 (47:41):
I saw some people saying, like I, I hope you
guys were sitting in that room laughing at these these answers.
But that's the thing. There is no room.
Speaker 6 (47:50):
It's it's it's a phone.
Speaker 11 (47:53):
Usually it's me in the tunnel because obviously we have
to get in the locker room and and talk to players.
It's it's a phone call. It goes through the league
to the even though even though again Clay Martin, the referee,
within the same building we were, it's a phone call.
And then, like I said, the hardest part is I
(48:14):
think the hardest part is that you go down thinking
you know what the explanation is going to be for
a call and getting ready to ask follow up questions
on that, and then if it changes, you don't have
the replay in front of you to come up with
something to ask right away. So like, for example, with
Kenny Moore's past interference, I was getting ready to ask
(48:37):
a follow up question about whether or not tangled feet
should be allowed to be a you know, be part
of a penalty, because in my understanding it's not, and
then the referee says that they called it because of
an arm grab, and I got to be honest, I
didn't see.
Speaker 6 (48:57):
An arm grab.
Speaker 11 (49:00):
Point in that play when I watched the replay up
in the press box, and so then you know, the
follow up I kind of lose it because I was
thinking one thing and then I'm.
Speaker 6 (49:09):
Trying to think they're an arm rep.
Speaker 11 (49:11):
I don't remember there being much really any contact at all,
and and it kind of throws you off a little bit.
So that's that's another thing. Is the other thing is,
like I know some people wanted us to ask about
face masks. If you saw the answers that we get it,
they kind of come back, and they just they just
(49:33):
stated as if the the penalty was the most obvious
thing in the world. We don't get really an explanation.
They just tell us this this happened, and this is
the way it works. And it doesn't really matter how
you follow up either. That that's kind of just what they.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
What they do.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Joel nothing against you, certainly. I just think the Pool
report is so dumb, like, at least in the NBA
town to minut report, they will admit if they're right
or wrong. That's the day after the fact. The Pool
report happens ten minutes after the game ends. They're never
going to admit that they're wrong. They're just going to
state exactly what you just said there about Kenny Moore.
(50:10):
We thought there was whatever a grab at the top
of the route. It's not like they're going to actually
dissect the film, go over it, and then have the
we were right, we were wrong, like the NBA two
minute report, which I get, you know, people, I mean,
there are a lot of fans out there that hate
all these sort of two minute pool reports whatever, But
at least from an NBA side of it, you'll get
the right or wrong. The NFL you get none of that.
Speaker 11 (50:32):
Yeah, I agree. I mean I think the poor report
system is essentially designed to make it so that there's
less questions asked. Because if we're if all of us
are shitting in a room and this the referee has
coming in answer these questions, you know, Well, what happens
in a press conference is your head might be going
(50:54):
one way, my head might be.
Speaker 1 (50:55):
Going the other way. But that means we end up
talking about.
Speaker 11 (50:57):
Both things that we're thinking about, Whereas with the pool report,
you don't have that it's on the phone, you don't
really have the chance to ask, you know, wide ranging questions.
It's it also like there's also a piece of it,
you know, I think James can James, you can back
(51:17):
this up, Kevin, you can back this up. A lot
of times when there's a call, we think about like, well,
do we need a pool report on this? And we
kind of know what you just said. We know that
they're going to just say it as if it wasn't
controversial or even really a tough decision at all, and
(51:38):
so it's like do we need like do we need it?
You know, do we need to go ask them for
something that they're just going to kind of speak from
like an alternate reality where this was really obvious.
Speaker 6 (51:51):
It is.
Speaker 11 (51:51):
It's designed, like I said, it's designed to to sort
of to me, it seems like it's designed to sort
of make it tamp down on criticism officials. I don't
know if it works or not, but it doesn't give
you a lot of leeway.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
No, it does not work. Joel A. Rickson from the
Indiapols stories with us here on the Payloft Suckers hoighline.
One thing before we move on, Joel, and you are
a NFL Fashinado, you propose a rule change for you
and see if you agree on it. I asked, and
you walk down to us during the game on Sunday, Hey,
what questions would you have for the pool report? And
I said to you, and I think I already know
(52:26):
the answer is delay a game reviewable? And I believe
you did ask that, so I appreciate that. And it
is not reviewable. Why don't we just do NBA shot
clock for delay a game and when the red light
comes on around the play the play clock, the play's
dead and it's a five year penalty. Why is the
unwritten rule there? You're allowed to have a forty first
(52:46):
second to snap the ball.
Speaker 12 (52:48):
I'm told with you on this, I don't I don't
know either, Like wait, the red, Like like you said,
the red, the red comes up in the NBA, and
we don't ever have to worry about this, and if
there's ever a question, we just review it.
Speaker 11 (53:03):
They have replay assists. Now it doesn't have to take
a long time. Like we have replay assists. They called
down apparently to the refs, and they tell coaches things
all the time that we don't necessarily know about. So
why can't we make delay of game review? But like,
it's not a subjective thing. It's not a judgment call.
It is cut and dry, did you snap it or not?
Speaker 6 (53:25):
You know?
Speaker 11 (53:25):
Sunday's the way they basically answered that question was they
just took us through the process of you know, well,
if we see Zeros, we're supposed to look down and
see if the ball snapped. And you know, if if
they looked at if they looked at Zeros and looked
down and see if the ball has been snapped on Sunday,
and I mean it had to be that had be
(53:46):
like the slowest lookdown of all time, right, that that
play was that play was definitely a second or two off.
If you have the red lights, if you have the review,
the replay assist. I think that's a pretty obvious one.
I think they should use that stuff for penalties. They
don't like to do that in the NFL, but they
should have replay four penalties that are cut and dry.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
Talking to Joeli Ericson and Andy Starr about the Indianapolis Colts,
what do you think the head goes zero to one hundred.
What are the chances Michael Badgeley is kicking field goals
and extra points for the Cults on Sunday.
Speaker 11 (54:17):
Oh forty percent.
Speaker 1 (54:24):
That means we get tryouts this week, right, I.
Speaker 11 (54:27):
Thought, so? I mean I still don't. I went back
and looked at what James takingsaid after he missed two
kicks in Berlin, and he said, we have faith in
Badge is what he said. Well, I was flying and
James was walking around Berlin and all that stuff. That's
what he said in the day after press conference that
he usually does. He has not said that. He said
(54:50):
he loved him. He said he's got to make those
extra points. He knows that. And to me, that usually
that kind of shift in tone with Shane's or shifting
words or Shane's sake and means something it's not, it's not.
Speaker 6 (55:04):
Out of nowhere.
Speaker 5 (55:07):
I would agree.
Speaker 2 (55:07):
I would agree honestly when it comes to what Shane
was saying. And I think Joel, your follow up yesterday
he left the door open. He basically said the same
thing he said after the game. We have faith in
whoever we put out there, and that whoever My bows
got raised little bit on that for sure.
Speaker 6 (55:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (55:26):
It.
Speaker 11 (55:27):
The other thing is like with with Badgeley, if he
was missing fifty plus yard kicks that they were going
to force to take, I think the Colts would be like, well,
this is the trade off we made. We won the
accuracy inside fifty. We didn't think that he was going
to We knew he was gonna be a little bit
dodgy outside of fifty. That's not what's happening, right, Even
though he does have a mess from fifty, he's missing
(55:49):
the kicks that they signed him to make.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Yeah, that's that's really, really well, said Joel A. Rickson
from the Star with Us here on the Payloads Stickers
hot Line. Joel, I the your one of the most
stand up individuals I've come across in my time on
this earth. You have three young boys. I would sign
off on a marriage right now for one of my
two daughters. Even Mark has said nice things about you before.
Despite your Cubs and your Brewers' venom towards each other.
Speaker 5 (56:15):
We'd put a house divided.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
Speaker 4 (56:17):
That's fine, the Brewers and the Cubs sign up. Yes, exactly, Yes,
house divided.
Speaker 1 (56:21):
If there's only one flagpole, who gets to fly the flag?
Speaker 6 (56:23):
Though?
Speaker 4 (56:24):
Whoever wins that day they both were rock paper scissors.
Speaker 3 (56:27):
Okay, Now, Joel, I don't think there is a list
of things you hate more in the world than the
location of this game on Sunday. I have never heard
a man talk about another city in the manner that
Joel A. Ericsson talks about the city of Jacksonville, Florida.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Now, this is the question. You have to ask him
how long he's going to be in Jacksonville. That's the question, Joel,
What is the itinerary? And do you hate anything in
the world more than Jacksonville?
Speaker 6 (56:58):
Did he wise? Not?
Speaker 11 (57:01):
Not any city anybody's heard of, Not any city anybody's
heard of. It's it's like there's like a few small
towns in Wisconsin I still have beef with from high
school football, but that's like, that's it. And so this,
this is the great the great injustice of this season
is that for the first time in like five years,
(57:24):
I have to spend two nights in Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
Oh, how the hell did that press? Why don't I
just drive? Why don't you just start, you know, leaving it?
I don't know, ten pm Saturday night. I don't know
if you get there on time? Probably not.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
It didn't work out. My flight is supposed to land. James,
James and Kevin know this.
Speaker 11 (57:42):
I frequently fly fairly late to games so I can
make my kids games on Saturday. So my flight lands
there at the normal time, which is very late, and
I just go straight to bed and then wake up
and go to this infernal thing they call a stadium,
which I know they're putting up a new one. Suppose, yeah,
you know that's gonna fix all whatever. It's still going
to be in Jacksonville, Like there's it's I don't care.
Speaker 6 (58:04):
How new it is.
Speaker 11 (58:05):
It's not gonna be great. But normally I get leave
the press box, do my thing, and go straight to
the air to fly back out. I couldn't do that
this year the flights did not work. My assumption is
that any Colts fan who is going has heard me
talk about this and thought, you know what, that's a
really good idea, and so they're not saying in Jacksonville either.
(58:27):
But I have I have many issues with Jacksonville. Number one,
why is it so far inland?
Speaker 6 (58:34):
The ocean is right there.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
All of the cool people are like, well.
Speaker 11 (58:38):
Jacksonville's not that bad. There's this thing over here, Like
that's not Jacksonville. That's like Jacksonville Beach, or it's done
by PPC Sawgrass. Those are not Jacksonville. We have to
spend our time in Jacksonville. The last time we were there,
they had they were like doing road construction on the
bridges or whatever, and instead of like making it look
(58:59):
nice or whatever wherever you have to put this road signs,
they just cut off pieces of old bridge and drop
them by the side of the highway like you're just
running a landfill at that point, like, come on with
your with your city.
Speaker 6 (59:12):
All right.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Fact, he just went on for over sixty seconds on
the things he doesn't like about.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
You should jam in the media room.
Speaker 5 (59:18):
This's the pv PG version.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
Gim me right now. I honestly think you know it.
Tell Zyr Franklin, you go in the locker room early.
They need to have Joel breakdown the huddle before this
team heads into the locker room to describe Jacksonville on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (59:30):
If they told Joel, if you put a shovel on
the ground and start digging, we'll move. We'll do Orlando
a year early, he would start doing it.
Speaker 5 (59:37):
Probably, I'll do that.
Speaker 3 (59:38):
Would you rather the Jaguars be in London?
Speaker 11 (59:42):
Yes, oh, one thousand percent. London is a fantastic city.
Jacksonville is a collection of buildings that just got stuck together.
Speaker 1 (59:49):
He's not wrong, He's not wrong. I just real quickly, Joel.
I mean, I just asked the computer for five random
small towns in Wisconsin. You tell me if they're on
your list or not. Okay, Okay, fish Creek now, Monroe now,
Chipwall Falls. Uh.
Speaker 11 (01:00:09):
Chipple, where I'm from, is not small. Chipp is one
of the larger towns around me.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
All right, Cedarburg, Peterberg is.
Speaker 11 (01:00:20):
We're getting closer there, but they're in the wrong part
of the state.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
So give me the one town that you just cannot
stomach in Wisconsin. All right, I never would have gotten there.
Speaker 11 (01:00:29):
So made a big defensive they were, they're twelve, They're
twelve miles away their arrival, and.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
Everything white out deeply to Joel on a crack legal crack.
Speaker 5 (01:00:40):
Speak there brother, it has been decades.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
He sounds like an SEC football fan going one finger
salute to whatever that city is he just named.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Joel, have a good day, man, Thanks for putting up
with our nonsense.
Speaker 6 (01:00:55):
You bet, guys, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
There is joy ericson indies starting. Not a fan of
the Jacksonville I think, we know.
Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
Yeah, there's a lot of truth behind that. I you know,
I've probably been to that stage in three or four times.
Not a big fan. And it's even more shocking the
Colts have never won there. Do you believe in that?
By the way, like, do you believe like there are
players in the football team that actually think about the
history and it's going to impact play on the field
on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
No, It's my favorite thing when I go through game
notes when they say, especially when I was doing basketball,
and I'd say the Cavaliers when visiting Indiana are thirty
four and seventeen on Tuesday nights.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Okay, Nah, this is different. I do think this is
a psychological thing. Seriously, Yes, I went there two years
ago and they did score a point.
Speaker 5 (01:01:38):
A single point Daniel Jones on Sunday. Yes, it matters
for all of them.
Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
But Daniel Jones has never been a part of these games.
Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
Well you mean, oh no, not for Daniel Jones, I
don't I don't think anything matters to him.
Speaker 5 (01:01:49):
That guy watches film and whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
But I do think just as a team, when you
put the uniform on, Yes, gonna make any sense to me.
But yes, so him included all of them. I don't
care because it doesn't matter if you look at the streak.
He doesn't matter who suited up for him. They all
go down there and lose. So I think it matters.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
All right, let's check it down all. I am open
and ready to accept any Jacksonville slander at all, all
week long, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
All nervous, started off with I'm opening ready.
Speaker 6 (01:02:22):
I was nervous where you were there.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
I was like, let's just get into the Pacers or
Monday Night Football or everyone has a long John's on.
Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
You just heard about the Colts and the Jaguars. Sunday
at one o'clock in the City of Jacksonville. Sauce Gardner
will not play, but will not be lost for the
season either.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
It sounds like James about the best case scenario you
can ask for. After he left Sunday's game with a
non contact injury. It is just a calf and quoting
Shane sich And, he said the achilles is good to go.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
All right, we wait to see whether or not there
will be actual kicker tryouts today or sometime this week,
usually on Tuesdays, though, right, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Yeah, I mean you, I guess cult are gonna walk through.
They didn't walk through again to Marrow James.
Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
I'll have to check the schedule.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
I think they are, but yeah, typically those would be
on a Tuesday, and then Wednesday through Friday is kind
of your big practice portion of the week. So we'll
see if that news shriggles out at all today.
Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
All right, let's talk about the Indiana Pacers. They had
one two in a row before last night, playing at
the field House against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland got out
to a quick start twice they built leads of twenty
one points. The Pacers tried to come back a little
bit in the third quart of it never got closer
than six one thirty five one to nineteen the final score.
Donovan Mitchell leading the way with an electric forty three
(01:03:40):
points for the Cavaliers last night, but they were out
rebounded and they just had too many turnovers last night.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
Kevin, Yeah, you know, obviously Donovan Mitchell out talented. You know,
so many players on the floor last night. But how
Cleveland largely built that lead though, was through effort and
second chance points. And given the Pacers makeup right now,
that's inexcusable because you know, they played on second night
of back to back Cleveland versus Indiana, had some rest there.
I think that's what was disappointing, you know, even given
(01:04:07):
you know what Mitchell did so really rough defensively after
some promising efforts on that end of the floor here
over the last week or so.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
And if you watch the game, you would have noticed
that TJ. McConnell did play for about five and a
half minutes last night, but then he was taken out
of the game by Rick Carlile. Never entered again, coming
off that hamstring injury that cost him the first month
of the season. But after the game, Rick Carlile James
said No, that was my decision. I just thought he'd
played back to back a couple of nights ago and
he just didn't quite look himself, and I didn't want
(01:04:33):
to risk it, so I just sat him down.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Boy, I know a lot of betters probably were mad
about that because the Unders got crushed.
Speaker 5 (01:04:40):
Oh boy, well he always got crushed.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
PACER's Playback presented by CNJ Water, the official water treatment
partner of the Indiana Pacers cnjwater dot com. We can
also tell you that Wednesday night the field house will
be busy again, this time that Denver Nuggets visiting the
Indiana Pacers. So if you want to go see one
of the best players in the league and call it Jokovic,
that's the probably a good time to go, Jokic said.
(01:05:05):
Jokovic did that. Jok thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
He's your tennis guy, right.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Yes, I got confused there, James, thank you very much.
As you know, I'm well aware of Yoki. So, uh,
that's coming up on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, NCAA basketball tonight, Kevin,
you're gonna be busy, uh, perdue. Rutgers starts at eight
and then Missouri Notre Dame at nine. O'clock this evening.
Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
Yeah, probably honestly with Butler. Let's start there seven o'clock
for Butler, a great start to the season. We'll see
about Jalen Jackson. That ankle injury. I think that could
be of concern for Butler. He's battled that for the
last few months. I think he's an important piece to
sustaining the really strong start they've had. So they're a
big favorite seventeen a half point favorite over Eastern Michigan tonight.
That is true TV. If you're not able to make
it out to Hinkle. As Jeff said, Perdue it Rutgers.
(01:05:48):
I know that strikes fear. Honestly, any Big Ten game
in the month of December strikes fear and Purdue fans
with how they've played in that month recently. But Rutgers
is horrific. So I fully expect to win this game.
This would be a Quad three loss if Perdue were
to lose it. That's how bad Rutgers has been to
start this season. By the way, did you see, James
(01:06:08):
that Alec Pierce's little brother visited Perdue.
Speaker 5 (01:06:11):
I did see that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
He is from what I understand, I believe he's sitting
out this year to maintain his final year of eligibility.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Yes, he's in the IVY League at Princeton, so you
can't do the grad transfer there. Really good player at
Princeton and so yeah, he is looking to play basketball
at Perdue or elsewhere. And I would think would be
a really coveted guy, like six to six kind of wing.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
Yeah, he was the IVY League Player of the Year,
you know, all Ivy League First team, second team, all
of that during his couples.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
To be for next year, just to clarify.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Yeah, So, but he's a good player. I think he
would certainly help any team he joints.
Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
Also tonight, Butler at home at Hinkle they'll be taking
on Eastern Michigan. That one starts at seven o'clock if
you want to listen to it right here at ninety three,
five one or seven to five the fan. Our airtime
starts at six thirty this evening. And CEAA basketball rankings
are out again due number one, Arizona two, Michigan three,
and Indiana checks in at number twenty two. Is they
are rising through the rankings right now. And we can
(01:07:08):
also tell you that the college football playoff rankings will
once again be announced later on tonight. This is the
last one to four conference championships, so I don't know
you're gonna see you see the rankings tonight is a
pretty good indication of what's gonna happen depending on some
of these conference championships.
Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
Yeah, again, we haven't really had a lot of top
ten upsets over the last few weeks, so it would
just have to be I guess re looking at resumes here,
and obviously for a team like Notre Dame, there's a
lot of attention on that and the coaching cycle I
think is also impacting some things to some of these
playoff teams. We talked a lot about the lang Kiff
and drama. Sounds like the BYU coach is rumored to
(01:07:45):
be the front runner at Penn State, so we'll see
how that impacts BYU. They could be a big time,
big steeler for Notre Dame and other teams coming up
on Saturday. So something keeping on beys seven o'clock tonight,
we'll get the latest college football rank.
Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
To refresh your memory. Ohio State was number one last week,
Indiana two, Georgia three, Oregon four, and Texas Tech fifth.
All Miss is sixth what happens now?
Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
Well, I mean A and M. Right, weren't they three
last week? And now that they will drop And that's
been the one, you know, big upset that we have had,
or a notable upset that we've had. So I assume
A and M will drop out of the buys.
Speaker 1 (01:08:23):
There were seven at eleven and one last time. I
sick the well.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
They lost this week and that was our first loss.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
So yeah, love it in one. So all right, we'll
find out what those official rankings are tonight a little
bit later on, So that's coming her way next as
we get ready to talk a little bit more about
the Pacers and also some more college football. I don't
know if you've heard, Mark, but there is a little
football game over at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday night.
We'll tell you about that and hear from the quarterback
(01:08:50):
next ninety three five and one oh seven five of
the Fan. I haven't really checked the text line too
much this morning. A lot going on, but people are
starting to wake up and get in on that. We've
got one here, that's Anonymous, says, tuning in late after
digging myself out of yesterday's second round of snow only
to be told to stay and work from home. So
I don't know if you've already talked about this morning people.
(01:09:13):
There's a lot of people stay at home to work today.
And I know that the most of the schools around here,
I know IPS is on two hour delay. Everybody else
around I know that our area up north there's an
hour and a half delay. So check your check your
specific school would be my guess.
Speaker 5 (01:09:29):
Looks like the guy had a question.
Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
Yeah, I'm getting there. Shane Stikeen's aggressiveness on fourth down?
Do you think it's being exacerbated or aided along by
the kicking mos Fourth and short? Sure, fourth and long,
like we saw Sunday, harder to defend. Thanks fellas, stay
safe out there. What do you think?
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Well, I'm trying to think, James, fourth and long? What
am I missing here? The end of the game, right,
was there another fourth and medium or longs that they
went forth on?
Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
You feel like when teams do not I have success,
the low hanging fruge is saying the place is horrible.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
I don't know long at the end of the game
they had to do. Yeah, but we did have this
conversation a little bit yesterday. Aggressive fourth is short. I
don't know. I think the fact that Michael Badgeley is
not a long distance kicker, I think there are some
times around that whatever thirty to forty yard line range.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Aus see what he Sam miss interpreted his question where
they are.
Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Going forward maybe a little bit more, or they're not.
You know, they don't believe they need to settle for
field goals in that distance. But as far as Sunday's concerned,
I didn't think there were that many fourth downs the
Colts actually went for that were questionable. I think a
lot of people brought up the Tyler Warren to B
sneak Again. I have no issue with that. Some people
(01:10:45):
are like, too cute, too cute. It's a tight end.
QB sneak. A ton of teams around the league run it.
Tyler Warren did it a million times at Penn State.
By having Daniel Jones initially in the shotgun, you're saying
to the defense, we're not QB sneaking it here. So
the defense is not going to pay those D tackles
in D linemen in whereas if you line up right
over center right away, you know they're gonna do that. Yeah,
(01:11:07):
you know, by motioning Warren in there you are, you know,
planting a little bit of doubt. At the end of
the day, professional athletes should execute a snap and a
QP snake.
Speaker 2 (01:11:17):
Yeah, I saw I'm interpreted the question. I thought it
was more like, you know why I see being so aggressive?
This is more so about is the kicker holding you back.
I didn't think that there were too many instances, even
in the Kansas City game, where I thought, Wow, they
have to go for this because they don't trust Michael Badgett.
I think that Shane has kind of kept the same
level of aggressiveness even throughout the kicking change. In my opinion,
(01:11:40):
and even the last few weeks, I can't say, oh,
since they don't have sister Trader anymore, they're definitely gonna
go for this. I think he's been aggressive like he
always has been, and to the point that Shane always
makes Yeah, when it works, you're a genius. When you
when it doesn't work, you're not. But I think the
execution is what really lacked on Sunday, not only from
the fourth down standpoint, but just overall. I mean, you
(01:12:01):
had to drop pass from Tyler, sorry not Tyler Warren
drop pass with Josh downs on a critical third down
there in the fourth quarter where you have a chance
to obviously be closer and convert that if he picks
that up. I thought that there were times where the
tackles didn't really play well. I know Bernard Ryman had
one day he kind of got bailed out for because
Josh has been another great catch and that got called
(01:12:22):
back and then Alec Pirez got it all back on
the next play because of the pass interference.
Speaker 5 (01:12:27):
So I don't know. I don't think that that's been
a big issue.
Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
I think this is a Michael Badgeley isolated incident issue
where he's not making normal kicks. It's not really affecting
your fourth down percentage, of my opinion, or your aggressiveness.
It's this dude ain't making the chip shots, which in
this case is the PAHs.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
Yeah, So, just to go over everything again from Sunday,
they had two fourth downs in the whole game they
went for. One was the final drive they obviously had
to go for that. The other was the Tyler Warren
QB sneak. So it's not like there were many fourth
down calls that Shane Stiken had on Sunday and in
regards to Badslee, I think there are some coaches that
if you feel confident in your kicker when you get
(01:13:06):
around that again thirty five ish yard line, your play
calling might be a little bit more resigned to, Hey,
we don't need to be as aggressive here because we
feel like our guy can make it from fifty five right.
Like basically the kicker on Sunday Cam Little for the Jags.
I mean he's got a leg and so you know,
Liam Cohen might have a little bit more of confidence
(01:13:27):
frankly in his kicker where Shane Siken when they get
around that area of the field, it's like, hey, guys,
if we don't get it, we're in the no man's land.
We probably should go for it versus punt.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
There's some one from Drew who says, I feel Mooney
and Kenny really haven't looked great. I don't understand why
lou doesn't like Jalen Jones. What do you think is
going on there?
Speaker 6 (01:13:48):
keV?
Speaker 3 (01:13:48):
Yeah, the Jalen Jones saying has been kind of a
mystery to me for the last few months. I think
he should get more snaps than Makaile Blackman. And to
go back to the conversation we had in the seven
o'clock hour. I'd like to see Kenny Moore kind of
exclusively be that outside corner when they're in the base defense.
It seemed like Kenny came off the field a good amount.
I understand when you go to three corners you want
Kenny in the slot, but I think when you have
(01:14:09):
two on the field, Kenny Moore is such a solid
football player, I want him to be one of those two.
So yeah, that's something that has been a little head
scratching for me.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
What do you think it looks like rotationally and guys
getting snaps now that we're not gonna have Sauce Gardner
coming back.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Well again, I mean, look like I just said, I
think Kenny should play every snap and be the base
corner outside corner when you're in kind of your four
to three alignment, which you really aren't in a whole lot,
and then when you go to nickel you have a
third corner in the field. I'd like to see Jalen
Jones get more snaps than Makai Blackman, but I'm not
(01:14:49):
holding my breath for it.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
Tom says we should discuss how many games of the
remaining five that the Colts might win. How many do
they need to win to make the playoffs? Three? I
feel three and two required three would get him to
eleven and six. That's probably what it feels like this year.
Eleven might be what you have to get.
Speaker 3 (01:15:11):
I'd be stunned if you miss the playoffs with eleven. Honestly, Tom,
it probably matters which of the three you win. I mean,
if you win the three divisional game, if you're in Yeah,
if you win the three divisional games, you're probably a
home game. Yeah, you've probably won the AFC South. If
the three wins are San Francisco, Seattle and you split Jacksonville,
then we're probably looking at Houston. Yeah, winning the division title.
(01:15:34):
So I think it really matters, not so much two
and three, three and two, I think it matters do
you get the AFC South games? And again, just to
go over the final five in order, it is at
Jacksonville at Seattle Monday night football against the forty nine
ers in your own building, Jacksonville in your own building,
and then you close out the season at Houston week eighteen.
(01:15:56):
Based off record, it's the hardest remaining schedule in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Man, it feels like a road win in Jacksonville had
gone awfully long way, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:04):
I mean, yeah, they haven't done that since I was
in high school. I mean twenty fourteen died to have
armpit hair the last time. Yeah, twenty fourteen, no facial hair.
And I think I was rocking the mohawk back then.
Speaker 4 (01:16:15):
And yeah, I was not married and didn't have kids
the last time they won.
Speaker 5 (01:16:21):
A lot has changed.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
I mean, if you look at the players who played
in that game, I think it might have been Jake
Arthur shouted Jake Arthur from Locked On Colts. He told
me were sitting there at the game Sunday, and I
think he mentioned that Darius Butler had an interception in
that game. And now the younger generation probably recognizes him
as a guy who's on the Pat McAfee show. And
(01:16:44):
Andrew Luck was in his third season, he's now in
his what second career as the football operator general manager
guy over at Stanford is alma mater.
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
Who's running down the sidelines for U pick six.
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
Reggie Wayne played in that game and now he's in
his fourth season as the wide receivers coach. I believe,
so that actually be probably a funny story to do. Like, Okay,
let's let's take a look at it. What the world
looked like, Well, what iPhone was out? What was our
latest iPhone? Back in twenty fourteen.
Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
A mad Bradshaw's scored a touchdown in the game. Your
three leading tacklers I believe were the Quel Jackson, larn
Landry and Greg Toler.
Speaker 5 (01:17:26):
It's one of the weirdest streaks in all of sports.
Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
Well, it's seally because the Jaguars have stunk, right, This
isn't like you're eleven year drought at Arrowhead, yeah, or
Foxborough or you know whatever this has been and you've
lost all sorts of games high scoring, low scoring. Andrew
Luck got shut out. There six' nothing To Cody kessler
in twenty. Eighteen so, basically if there's one common, thread
(01:17:51):
and again the personnel's, changed the common threat Is jacksonville's
d line has whipped you annually and. Turnovers you think
That colt's roster gets to Get they're like the seventy
Two dolphins and Crack champagne every year that the current
calls don't win At.
Speaker 5 (01:18:04):
Jacksonville where the last ones to do.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
It Andrew lux organizing a zoom.
Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
Grab the bottle.
Speaker 4 (01:18:09):
Opener here are the Scores pagano.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
Cheersing since since that, win when they were forty four
to seventeen winners Over jacksonville in twenty, fourteen they've lost
fifty one to, sixteen thirty to twenty, seven thirty to,
ten six to, nothing thirty eight to, twenty twenty seven to, twenty,
twenty six to, eleven twenty four to, nothing and last
year thirty i'm, sorry thirty seven to twenty and last
(01:18:32):
year thirty seven to thirty. Four so you're, right all
different kinds of.
Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
Games season Opener Philip rivers lost. There you're playing for
a clinch of a playoff berth With Carson. Wentz you
get run out of the. Building so all shapes and,
sizes by the, Way Rick carlisle coming up in fifteen
nine o'clock today for The, pacers.
Speaker 4 (01:18:51):
Been twenty years since they hosted The Super. Bowl this
is their Super bowl On sunday In. Jacksonville they're not
getting any Actual Super bowls. ANYMORE i don't Think Joel
erickson will lot stand for. That this is their Super
bowl On. Sunday Mike drocco says as. Much The Jaguars
reporter he, said the the fan base gets a little
extra zest and they do step when they builds come
(01:19:11):
to town these.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Days, stop are there Really jaguars?
Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
Fans there has to.
Speaker 3 (01:19:15):
Be there're all no one's in.
Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
There someone's in that THERE td.
Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Pool, yeah they're all making out in that pool up.
Speaker 6 (01:19:22):
There.
Speaker 4 (01:19:22):
Yeah Jackson deville's dropping from the sky some for some.
People we're gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Talk Big Ten championship next ninety, three five one, SEVEN
a little bit of a football game coming up On
saturday Night Lucas Oil, stadium second Ranked indiana taking on
top Branked Ohio state for The Big Ten. Championship last
time you can make your case for the upcoming college
football playoff with both teams certainly getting in regardless of
what the outcome of this football game. Is but, uh
(01:19:51):
we see a five and a half point favorite For Ohio.
State we saw some analytics this week that saw that
Maybe indiana has a slight chance to win this. Thing
that'll be. Interesting of the, players obviously a couple Of
Heisman trophy. Contenders, James we've been watching our Guy Fernando
mendoza all year, long and then justin saying has been
playing great quarterback nearly, identical even somewhat superior statistics At Ohio. State,
(01:20:15):
Julian julian me and names, Today, james thank you for
being here for. Me that's WHAT i was. Saying. Man
BUT i think AND i knew that was. Coming took
you a second to find.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
It it's all, Good it's not, good but, continue.
Speaker 1 (01:20:29):
Sir my point being is there are a lot of
names to look, for but defensively For Ohio, state there's
a kid Named Caleb downs who's got a little bit
of the story people around here might be interested.
Speaker 13 (01:20:38):
In.
Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
Yeah So Caleb downs is the, younger bigger brother Of Josh,
downs because he is a little bit taller and, stature
and he's an outstanding, safety one of the best safety
in college, football one of the best players in college.
Football many believe this to be his last year with
the Buck eyes in college. Football he started his correction
(01:20:59):
At alabama and that's been the last two years with
the buck.
Speaker 5 (01:21:02):
Guys and he's.
Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Outstanding and so during an interview, Yesterday Fernando mendoza had
a chance to talk about. Him he's asked about, him
AND i, thought, honest listening To, Fernando man, AGAIN i
go back to the tour guy, Comment, kevin he could
be a great tour guy because he explains a lot
of things in. Depth it's, interesting it's, complimentary but it's also.
(01:21:24):
Real so here's what he had to, Say, mark if
you've got a dialed up for us About Caleb downs,
again the younger brother Of colts wide Receiver Josh, DOWNS i.
Speaker 5 (01:21:32):
Would say it's.
Speaker 9 (01:21:32):
Versatility Whenever i'm watching. Film the way that he's able
to rotate down affect the run, game the way that
he's able to match whether it's zone or man and
lockdown that, receiver or the way that he's able to
flip his hips and drive on a seam ball or
just any ball in, general is truly. SPECIAL a player
that is able to play effectively at all three levels
(01:21:54):
is always something that you got to. Consider AND i
think that the nation has taken notice and given him
the hype that he, deserves as he is one of
the best defensive players in the country for a, reason
and it's going to be a great opportunity to go
against a safety like. That especially as a, quarterback your
eyes are always on the safeties and you're always trying
to evaluate the, safeties and that's a big part of
(01:22:14):
the structure of the. Defense and that's why you always
Hear Tom brady talking About Ed reid so, much because
that was a great safety that he played, against AND
i feel like NOW i have a great opportunity to
go against a great. Safety he was going to play
in THE.
Speaker 1 (01:22:25):
Nfl and, then, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
We Saw downs last. Year of, course have a huge
punt return to the house Against. Indiana it was a
really kind of a game changing play there in the third.
Quarter mark double check These heisman. ODDS i think we've
kind of been saying, this you. Know, YES i Think
Jeremiah love is a, great great. PLAYER i think he's
best player in college. Football BUT i realized that when
he got hurt On saturday night and then he came
(01:22:46):
back in the, game didn't put a great game by any.
Means His heisman odds are now. Done it doesn't seem
like this is just the winner of the game wins The. Heisman.
Though it seems like That vanderbilt Kid Diego pavia is
really up there in the.
Speaker 4 (01:23:01):
Odds, Yeah saying And mendoza are both tied at plus one,
sixties so they the, favorites But via is not far
behind plus one ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:23:08):
Five so he's right there and.
Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
He's got the flair he's you, KNOW i don't know
if you saw The heisman celebration him and his offensive
line over the, weekend and you, know SAYING i thought
had a couple of you, know nice moments certainly Against Michigan,
mendoza you, know obviously didn't have that in The bucket.
Game CERTAINLY i think Of mendoza and or, saying have
a big Game saturday. Night it'll be huge With pavia
(01:23:31):
not playing this championship. Weekend BUT i am curious how
we see this vote split. UP i, mean that's pretty
wild to have you said all of them are under
plus two. Hundred, YEP i mean that's pretty. RARE i,
mean you, Know heisman votes do you know by this
time next, week and to have all of them that
close is something you don't typically. See but, again should
(01:23:52):
be a hell of a hell of an atmosphere inside
Of Lucasolo stadium and a day That indiana fans dream.
Of you imagine having AN iu basketball game Against, louisville
UNDEFEATED iu basketball Against louisville and that's the undercard.
Speaker 7 (01:24:07):
For.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
You that's, Crazy, yeah that is. Crazy in your state.
Capitol i'm so mad THAT I i'll be In. JACKSONVILLE
i fought Signing. Joel i'll be In jacksonville Is, saturday
SO i can't be around BECAUSE i do think it'll
be a great, admoteer even for those who don't go
to the game in, person and that's most, people because
the tickers are going to be.
Speaker 5 (01:24:23):
Expensive but, yeah it's somebody buzzing down.
Speaker 6 (01:24:25):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
MAN a lot of excitement and a lot of, OPTIMISM i,
think and deservedly.
Speaker 1 (01:24:29):
So all, right coming up in a, moment we'll talk
basketball of THE nba. Variety the head coach of The
Nada pacers stops. By that's For carlisle next ninety three,
five one to seven, five.
Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
All, right nine o'clock on A, tuesday and on some
people might be just getting out of the house right.
Now commute in wasn't too too. Bad granted that was
whatever three hours, ago but certainly safe. Travels it's out side,
Streets Little, mah but main streets weren't too bad on
the morning. Commute, UNFORTUNATELY i think the weather probably impacted
a little bit of the atmosphere last night inside Of
(01:25:01):
Gamebridge Field house to talk more about The pacers and
The cavs last. Night he is the head coach of
The Indiana pacers and he's with us right. Now Rick, carlisle,
coach good morning to. You how are you?
Speaker 6 (01:25:13):
Good sounded like you guys were slow jamming the news
there for that, music little slowjam.
Speaker 3 (01:25:18):
Action can you get behind?
Speaker 9 (01:25:19):
That?
Speaker 6 (01:25:21):
Sure why?
Speaker 3 (01:25:22):
Not look At that's all? Right Mark dyton jot that.
Down we might need that for A Rick carlile reentry
here coming up later in the. Season. Coach, defensively you
guys have been very good over the last week and
a half two weeks or, so but last night a
lot of second chance points early in the. Game did
you see that as the biggest difference For?
Speaker 1 (01:25:39):
Cleveland?
Speaker 6 (01:25:41):
Yeah, yeah we didn't do a good enough job hitting
first on, blockouts AND i think they hit us for
nine or eleven second chance points in the first, quarter
and that Was that was a bad. Start.
Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Rick when you look at these games and you're able
to kind of climb back into, it what's the message
when you see the version of yourselves that obviously can't
play the brand of basketball you want to? Like is
that something that you revisit after the, game, Like, hey
this is that we have to play the entire four
quarters or you know how in your face with, it are.
Speaker 6 (01:26:13):
You well are you you're talking about how we're presently.
Speaker 5 (01:26:19):
Constructed, yeah because it.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Is you, KNOW i don't want to say it's an,
excuse but at the same, time there's some legitimate reasons
maybe why you aren't playing your your typical brand of.
Speaker 6 (01:26:29):
Basketball, yeah we've had to adjust a, lot AND i
think that's. Obvious and so, look we've made progress in
the last seven, games so before last, night in the
previous six, games we're number one in the league in.
Defense so that's that's, progress and that's something to be proud.
(01:26:54):
Of but as we, know it's you, know it's it's
not a. DESTINATION i, mean this this all requires continued,
work continued. Focus and, so, yeah we had slippage last.
Night pretty. Obviously cleveland came in here on a three
game losing. Streak give them. Credit they were very determined
(01:27:17):
and you, Know mitchell got going and we didn't have
very many.
Speaker 2 (01:27:21):
ANSWERS i know you mentioned your defense really planned at
a high. Level of, course some slippage last, night as you,
mentioned but on top of, that looking At Jay huff
and what he's really done for your team over the
last week or, so how have you seen him find
a groove offensively and? Defensively last TIME i, CHECKED i
believe he was leading the league in blocks per.
Speaker 6 (01:27:38):
Game, yeah he's he's made great progress and he's he's
a terrific. Kid you, know he came into a situation
that was quite different Than. Memphis there's been certainly an
adjustment period for. Him you, know a lot of things
with our team has changed this. Year but as we've
(01:28:01):
gone along and had you, know some moderate success over
the last seven, games he's Been he's certainly been a
big part of it with his ability to stretch the.
Floor he's rebounded, well and you mentioned the block. SHOTS i,
mean he's pretty elite in that.
Speaker 3 (01:28:21):
Area PACER's nuggets coming up tomorrow night inside A Gamebridge Field.
House Rick carlile with us here on The Payless Slickers.
Hotline you mentioned that number one, defense you know there
for about a two week. Stretch you, know what have
you liked from a chain standpoint on that end of the. Floor,
again we've seen some lineup, tweaks but what hasn't been
on the defensive end that's given you certainly much more
(01:28:43):
optimism about where you guys are, playing.
Speaker 6 (01:28:47):
Probably just simply the fact that we've been. Physical we've
done a reasonably good job of keeping people off the
free throw, line and we've had. Success our rebounding has been,
better you, know certainly with the exception of last night and,
(01:29:08):
so and you know it's NBA's is a difficult. League you,
know it's it's a difficult. League it's become more. Physical you.
Know we were certainly a part of that with how
played the last couple of, years and so you always
(01:29:29):
have to keep, adjusting and then you have to adjust your.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
ADJUSTMENTS i going to go back to over the, weekend. Coach,
obviously you guys win the back to back Against washington
And chicago and you See Pascal siakam hit that game.
Winner you guys been on the wrong side of several
those shots here throughout the early part of the. Season
if you could from your, perspective like what did you
(01:29:53):
see From siakam on that? PLAY i was particularly struck
by just his entire, demeanor, cool, calm, collected seemingly knowing
where the clock, is you, know the, pump, fake all of.
It could you kind of walk us through what you
saw From pascal in that moment to win the.
Speaker 6 (01:30:09):
Game, yeah he you know all the things you just.
Mentioned certainly he had a good feel for the. Clock
we tried to face the floor to give him an
angle in an area to go to to get to a.
Spot it was not an easy, shot AND i was
(01:30:31):
right behind him in line with the, basket and in real,
time just standing, there it looked like he just he
went to a spot and rose, up but there was
actually a hesitation and it reminded me a little bit
Of Dirk. Dewitzky you, KNOW i saw many game winners
(01:30:54):
during my thirteen years with. HIM i think eleven out
of thirteen were with. Him And pascal has the ability
to at the last, second you, know very calmly and very,
coolly change the angle of the shot to back up
a little bit and the ball goes a little bit.
Higher you, can you can go up to try to
(01:31:17):
block it all you, want but when he when he
makes that geometrical change and gets, it know. It there's
just no way to get to. It and it was.
Perfection it's difficult as it. WAS i, mean the only,
thing the only thing better would have been if you,
know the red light had gone on while the ball
was in the. Air but you, know point one on
(01:31:38):
the clock is uh is pretty damn Good and it
was an amazing shot and certainly much.
Speaker 2 (01:31:43):
Needed, YEAH i was saying watching that, game we got
to get the home clock operator and give him the
walk off win there with the point once he left
on the.
Speaker 5 (01:31:51):
Clock But, rick you touched a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
There but how much value do you think it, is
especially in a league like this where there's so many
guys that can you, know do multiple things now as
far as you, know, shoot drive past, Whatever but you
still have that one guy at least on your. Roster
AND i THINK benedicgg has some of this as, well
that when you're kind of in a, bind he can
still get a pretty good. Look you've been around the
(01:32:14):
game for a long. Time how rare a talent is?
Speaker 6 (01:32:16):
That, well this is you, know this is the definition
of a of a max. Player you, know a guy
that can that can create consistently create an advantage for his.
Team so, YEAH i, mean really the technical definition that
is probably can consistently create an advantage for. Himself but
(01:32:42):
In pascal's, mind it's it's all about the team and
what he can do for the, team and so, yeah
it's it's made, him you, know a very special player for.
Us he's a very special. Person and you know how
he's led through this difficult stretch has, been uh has
been quite has been quite exceptional because he's remained very.
(01:33:08):
Upbeat he's had great. Wisdom he he you, know he
picks the exact right spots to to interject on what's
going on and to help and, uh you, know his,
consistency he's been.
Speaker 3 (01:33:24):
Impeccable Then Rick carlisle with us here on The Payless
Slickers hotline as The pacers will get back to work
coming up tomorrow, night it will be The patriers And
nuggets inside of Gamebridge Field. House, Coach you've talked a
little bit these last two days on the show about
how this Weekend saturday specifically is kind of a dream
scenario FOR i you. Fans their basketball team will play
inside of your building coming Up saturday afternoon Against louisville
(01:33:47):
and they'll play in The Big ten title one versus
Two saturday. Night it kind of got me, THINKING i
don't know if you've ever asked you, this did you
have a do you have a favorite? Team you, know
any sport when you were growing, up or a favorite.
PLAYER i get you weren't filing up the league pass,
necessarily but did you have a favorite, team favorite player growing?
Speaker 6 (01:34:05):
Up? Uh you talking about football or basketball, EITHER i guess.
Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
Any just like, Childhood Rick, carlile did he have a
favorite sport or favorite?
Speaker 13 (01:34:13):
Team, YEAH i, mean you, KNOW i followed THE, nba you,
know largely through magazines growing, up because you, know we
didn't have CABLE.
Speaker 6 (01:34:25):
TV i THINK i probably told you this, story but you,
know early, on you, know WHEN i was ten or
eleven years. Old you, know that was When Louel sander
was drafted by The bucks and he And oscar were
playing together there AND i became a big fan Of Al,
sander who Became kareem and then and THEN i kind
(01:34:50):
of hooked on with The lakers in seventy two when
they had their run and at one point won thirty
three games in a, row AND i remember listening to
game ON am, radio you, know during the playoffs that.
Year you, know back in those days where we lived
up Near, canada you could pick UP am radio, signals you,
know late at, night and, uh it was it was pretty.
(01:35:15):
Amazing it was it would come through very. Clear you.
Know that was that was the year they had you,
Know Wes, goodrich, McMillan, Happy hairston And chamberlain as their,
starters and you know they were they were, great and,
uh you, know and then after, That i'm just trying to,
think you, KNOW i was somewhat of A nick, fan you,
(01:35:37):
know in the in the early seventies as. Well you,
know my dad grew up In, Elmsford New, york which
is In Westchester. County we went to a couple Of
knicks games early on at The. Garden those were very very.
Memorable you, KNOW i was in my you, know, eleven,
twelve thirteen year old you know range of. Age and
then you, KNOW i mean all that kind of came
(01:36:00):
full circle WHEN i got signed by The knicks and
this On december first of eighty, seven and that night
had my best game as a, pro you, know In
Massive Square, garden AND i just so much of that
stuff was was so. Cool and, then, uh you, know
when the when THE ABA nba merger, happened you, know
doctor j was was the guy that was you, KNOW
(01:36:22):
i was completely enamored, with you, know the style of,
play the grace The, dunks you, know all that, stuff and,
uh you, know of, course emulating a guy who you
could you could never in a zillion years hope to
play like was kind of idiotic in a lot of.
Ways but it, was, uh you, know it was it was,
(01:36:46):
inspirational you, know watching him and so uh and then you,
know the irony of ironies was you, KNOW i was
pretty much A celtic hater in those, days you, know
because of my love Of DOCTOR j and the sixth
and THEN i get drafted By, buston you, know and then,
uh you, know ONCE i got there and made the,
(01:37:08):
team of course all that. Changed and you, know very, interestingly,
uh the opportunity to play With larry for three years In,
Boston Larry, bird that, is and you, know became became
friends with, him and it it was one of the
reasons that you, know we ended up coaching together and
then working, together you, know a little further on down the,
(01:37:31):
line but you, know that's kind of the history of
my of my favorite, teams et. Cetera you, know as
far as far as football. Goes right, now it's The, colts,
baby you, Know i'm Just i'm dialed, in and you,
know it's damn officials the other. Day, wait you know
what a what a what a screwing that.
Speaker 5 (01:37:51):
WAS i don't think they can find you.
Speaker 3 (01:37:55):
ACROSS i love to follow, up But i'm worried about your.
POCKET i don't know if they. Can And Roger goodell
can step in, there, coach.
Speaker 6 (01:38:03):
He ain't gonna get.
Speaker 5 (01:38:04):
ME i love That.
Speaker 6 (01:38:06):
Adam adam could get me by, that But goodell. Can't he,
can't he can't get he can't touch.
Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
ME i love.
Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
It so last ONE i have for, You, Rick and
actually this sparked is from a DEBATE i have my
family During. Thanksgiving we always do, Like, okay whose era is?
Better you know you're era With lebron and you Know
sga now And yoki versus my dad's From he loves
The Michael jordan And Larry bird and all those guys
And doctor J like you said, so looking at we
were looking at The Michael jordan. Game we scored sixty.
(01:38:35):
THREE i believe you were On boston when this. Happened
and looking at the spacing from that, Game rick is
jarring to me because it's so. Different i'm not taking
anything away from the skill level that you know each era,
has but as a coaching as a player throughout the,
years what has it been like to evolve with the
spacing of the. Game and he talked about physicality a
(01:38:55):
little bit earlier in this, interview but the spacing so,
different and how is that maybe you affected how you
coach in the rotations you have and things of that.
Speaker 6 (01:39:03):
Nature, YEAH i mean the other it was maybe a
week and a half. AGO i WAS i was going
through the. Channels AN NBA tv was on and they
had game five of the playoff series Between philadelphia And
New jersey and it was it. Was it was a
(01:39:26):
series that went to a deciding fifth game in the first.
Round every game in the first four games was won
by the road. Team so you, know, Uh New jersey
won the first two games In. Philly philly won the
next two games In New. Jersey and this Is New
jersey with you, Know Michael, Ray, Richardson Buck, Williams Albert, King,
(01:39:51):
otis Bird, Song Darwin, cook you, know a lot of
a lot of good, players And philly was you, know
it was it Was Doctor jay and it really. Was
there pretty much championship team. Intact you, know a COUPLE
i think a year or two after the, championship and
so watching that, GAME i had the SAME i, HAD
(01:40:13):
i had the exact same. THOUGHT i, mean everything was
so bunched IN i don't THINK i saw one three
point shot. Taken in, Fact philadelphia was, down was down,
late and they had a couple of possessions. Left they
didn't even think about shooter, three you. Know so it
was so so much has. Changed and, look there was
(01:40:37):
a there was a scoring crisis in the nineties and
headed into the early two, thousands and Then Jerry colangelo
had a group that was put together By David. Stern
david gave them autonomy to make some rule changes to
make the game, better you, know to to help evolve
(01:40:59):
the game. Forward so the big change was you could
play any defense as long as you did not get
a defense of three second. Violation and so all of a,
sudden instead of grid lines that determined whether or, not you,
know you were legal or, not you could now. Guard
you can now double team a guy that didn't have the,
(01:41:22):
ball and that that didn't used to be the. Case
so the ball had to had to, move and as
the ball had to move more with you, know the
legality of zone, defense et. Cetera players had to develop
a different skill. Set the game started to breathe. More
(01:41:42):
the three point shots started to be realized as as
the potent weapon that it that it's viewed as, today
and that was kind of the beginning of the change
of the. Game and then you, know nowadays you have,
analytics you've got a three point, line a lot of
these guys are shooting from what would be a four point.
Line and you, know IT'S i love the way the
(01:42:08):
game has. Changed it's it's it's really the ultimate challenge to.
Play it's the ultimate challenge to defend in. It and you,
know it's, just, uh it's just super compelling because as
we've seen over the last two years, especially you, know
no lead is too large and no deficit is too,
(01:42:29):
big you, know and the three point shot and the
speed of the game is has has put a great
deal of excitement into. It so, Yeah i'm with you on.
That and watch that game five, Man i've never seen
so many people bunched up together in the. Lane the
only the only game that that THAT i would compare
(01:42:52):
it to That i've seen THAT i went back years
later and happened to see ON tv when we were
Playing washington back in THE uh it was around two
thousand and eight or something WHEN i first got To,
dallas they had Our Virginia georgetown, games so that Was
ewing Versus, samson and that game had no three point,
(01:43:14):
line no shot, clock and and we were sitting in
a zone and it was it was packed in and
possessions were super, long and you, know it was it
was like it was like watching paint. DRY i, mean
it was really it was really it was really. Arduous
and SO i Just i'm thrilled with the way the
(01:43:34):
games evolved over the. Years it had, to you, know
in some, way shape or. Form there was there was
always talk, about, hey the floor needs to be. Bigger you,
know maybe the rim needs to get, higher all that
kind of. Stuff you, know none of that stuff was
going to happen BECAUSE NBA nba arenas are configured to
be a certain. Size there are certain you, know the
(01:43:57):
high revenue seats were not going to go, away and
so the game had to adjust and it. Has and
and as we move, forward you know you're going to
see more five men that can stretch the, floor put
the ball on the, floor and do all the skilled
things as, well and it'll get harder and harder to.
Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
Guard always think of. Scoring you guys put up what
eighty something On cleveland in the first half of a
playoff game last, year and you, know twenty years, Ago Pacers,
pistons it was the first one to like seventy five
would win that series in The East.
Speaker 6 (01:44:28):
Final, yeah But i'll tell you, one like my first
year In, detroit you, know we we developed a team
that was a tough minded defensive. Team that was our.
Identity we gave up eighty six points a game for the,
season and you know that was that was kind of
the beginning of this era that my first year of
coaching was that. Year and it was also the first
(01:44:51):
year of The colangelo rule, changes and so you, know
we we were all. Adjusting but you, know we we
had we had. DEFENDERS i, mean we Had Ben, wallace
who really nobody really knew Who Ben wallace was at
that point in, time but he Became Defensive player of
The year his second year with us and went on
to win it like three additional. Times and you, know
(01:45:14):
under these under these new, rules you could still have
a great defensive. Team and so everyone wants to have
an identity and so right. Now you know with, us
our identity is we we we have we have found
a formula to defend. Well but it is it's great
(01:45:36):
dependent on the right kind of offense and the right
kind of. Execution at both.
Speaker 3 (01:45:42):
Fens PACER's have, one two of three. Again they Got
denver coming up tomorrow night reminder AND i think it's
a good reminder on a day like. Today you got
The Lloyd Pier Samuel cote drive coming up uh three
today over at The Goodwill Horizon house right off Of Washington.
Streets if you can make it out to, that certainly
do coach as, Always thank, You Sarah well chat next.
Speaker 1 (01:46:02):
Week.
Speaker 6 (01:46:03):
Cheers Stick care Of carlisle.
Speaker 3 (01:46:06):
Right there on the Pay Less liquors. Hotline Mark dyton
will have that up on the, podcast and he definitely
wanted to make Sure Roger goodell that you can't get
his back.
Speaker 5 (01:46:18):
Pocket, now he ain't gonna get. ME i love That.
Speaker 6 (01:46:22):
Adam adam could get me, that But goodell. Can't he,
can't he can't get he can't touch.
Speaker 3 (01:46:28):
Me the thoughts on The colts game On sunday and
the officiated.
Speaker 5 (01:46:33):
We'll screwing that was you got to get saying that
to return the.
Speaker 3 (01:46:37):
Favor, now do not Think Shane stiken would react in
that manner in front of a.
Speaker 5 (01:46:42):
Microphone be, glorious, though wouldn't?
Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
It, yeah it would.
Speaker 4 (01:46:45):
Be he should Hand carlile notes of what he wants
to say to officials And carlisle can say, it and
Then goodell can't Find, carlisle and then Anything carlile wants to,
Say Adam silver there he gives The Shane stike and
they passed notes like it's home.
Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
RUN i think, Teamwork, Mark.
Speaker 1 (01:46:59):
YEAH i think you're onto, Something mark.
Speaker 4 (01:47:01):
Yeah can't give cross league. PENALTIES i think they should do.
Speaker 1 (01:47:05):
THAT i have. It do you like?
Speaker 5 (01:47:07):
Me yes or? No do the? Circle you gotta do
the five.
Speaker 3 (01:47:10):
Thing just pray that it doesn't fall on the ground
and the, teacher.
Speaker 6 (01:47:13):
Do you like?
Speaker 2 (01:47:14):
Me yes or?
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
No what a?
Speaker 5 (01:47:15):
Time maybe bubble gum bubble?
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
Gums maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:47:20):
Check it down Culture. Jackuars hopefully a better prepared officiating
cruise shows up for that. Game colts try to win
In jacksonville for the first time since twenty. Fourteen kick
off at one o'clock airtime begins at ten. Am right
(01:47:41):
here at ninety three five and one oh seven to,
five the Fan Sauce. Gardner the ally doesn't have an achilles,
blowout that's great. News it is a problem in the
upper part of his. Calf but when does that mean
he can? Return James boyd not, sure.
Speaker 5 (01:47:55):
But he will miss some.
Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
TIME i would imagine he will return sometime within the next.
Month the so sense injurr reserve is not an option
in that would automatic knock you off for four. Games
so no ir is a good sign for Soft.
Speaker 1 (01:48:07):
Cardner colts currently technically trail The Jacksonville jaguars for first
place in THE Afc. South, obviously a Winning Jacksonville kevin
would change all that, around and it would send The
colts kind of back on an upward trajectory within the division.
Too they need this, one.
Speaker 3 (01:48:21):
Yes big of a game Of sunday was this one
probably rises in some value, Here so, yeah it is absolutely.
VITAL i think if you want a legit shot at
one in THE Afc.
Speaker 1 (01:48:33):
South all, Right The Indiana pacers just hurt from M
carlisle a moment. Ago they dropped one To cleveland last,
night one thirty five to. One. Nineteen Donovan mitchell led
the way for The cavs with forty three. Points they
will take on The Denver nuggets at The fieldhouse tomorrow.
Night they'll be looking for their third winning four games
if they can get that. ONE ncaa basketball coming up
later on, Tonight purdue on the road to take On.
(01:48:54):
Rutgers rutgers is five and, three but that's kind of
a deceiving five and. Three they're really not that, great are, They, Kevin, no.
Speaker 3 (01:49:00):
They are very. Bad SO i Know purdue fans they
think back To December Big ten, Games rutgers being one of,
Them Northwestern Penn. State last. Year purdue was lost on
the road in The Big ten here in the month Of.
December but This rutgers team is not good at all
produce like a sixteen seventeen point. Favorite Here indiana would
to open Up Big ten play tomorrow that is up
at The. Barn Another Big ten team that is not very,
(01:49:22):
good The Minnesota Golden. Gophers SO i think a nice
way to kind of ease you, know it's the, road
but still a nice way to ease into the conference
play for both of those. Teams and right, Now, Butler,
Indiana purdue all really strong starts to the. Year what
we've yet to see a loss from Any, WELL i
Guess butler did LOSE smu on that late shot, there
but that's it right. Now so really strong starts and
a really good night for college, basketball some good games
(01:49:45):
around the entire nation.
Speaker 1 (01:49:47):
Tonight you Mentioned butler that modest team will be At
Tinkle Field house tonight taking On Eastern. Michigan they are
six to one on the, year SEVEN pm, tip six
thirty airtime here at ninety three five, one seven to
five of the. Fan one game In Monday NIGHT footba
last night for THE Nfl New england over The New
York giants thirty three to Fifteen giants didn't look good at,
all but man Oh Man Drake may continues to. Impress
(01:50:08):
does Any James.
Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
Yeah might be THE mvp front runner at the, moment
AND i believe. What this is his third, year which
is pretty remarkable that he's in THE vp conversation met
early in his.
Speaker 1 (01:50:19):
Career he is getting it. Done also, Again i'm a uniform.
Lover Those patriots red uniforms with pat The patriot on the,
helmet those are. AWESOME i love.
Speaker 3 (01:50:31):
Those nothing better Than Young hoku's attempt at a field
goal last night hit.
Speaker 1 (01:50:37):
The ground a good foot behind the ball on attempt last.
Speaker 3 (01:50:40):
NIGHT i was right up there with The colts special
team second.
Speaker 5 (01:50:45):
Year, yeah she give me a decade Of.
Speaker 1 (01:50:47):
Carolina good, lord that's When North carolina used to be
competitive in THE. Acc sorry about? THAT i take? Another
DO i take Another pelotics? Shot right?
Speaker 5 (01:50:56):
THERE i won't stop.
Speaker 1 (01:50:57):
IT i apologize for. That we get college football official
rankings released again later on. Tonight you're, Right, Kevin TEXAS
a AND m had been at number, three but then
losing a. Game it'll be interesting to see what that
top five looks like when they reveal. THAT i would
Imagine Ohio state In Indiana state right where they're at
at one and.
Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
Two, Yeah and obviously the big drama tonight will revolve
are they reassessing those resumes on the backside of? It you,
know Notre. Dame it's the. Resume obviously has been one
that's been talking about a whole. Lot Is texas Or?
VANDERBILT i, mean they had some notable. Wins does that
do anything to kind of push themselves ahead of? It
we've kind of seen status quo really with a lot
(01:51:34):
of the bracket here over the last few. Weeks so
it's the final one before championship weekend coming Up friday And, saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:51:41):
And just when you think things have gotten even, crazier
you could possibly imagine in college football around the. Game
we saw what happened last night in Both oxford And Baton.
Rouge As Lane kiffen Leaves Ole miss to go TO.
Lsu he did not get a rousing send off at
The Oxford. Airport Diddy, James.
Speaker 5 (01:51:59):
No he did.
Speaker 2 (01:51:59):
NOT i would imagine there were a lot of fingers
that we probably shouldn't.
Speaker 1 (01:52:03):
Raise craziness continuing in the coaching. Carousel we'll talk a
little bit more about that in a. Moment gets you
ready to go for The Big ten championship game On
saturday night as. Well it's ninety three five and one on.
Seven good. MORNING i hope your your day is going
to get warmer and easier and. BETTER i know everybody
with kids had a little bit of adjustments to going
(01:52:24):
on this, morning with delayed starts and. Whatnot did you
ever find out If brownsburg had a delayed start mark
or you've just.
Speaker 5 (01:52:29):
Been much of the disappointment Of Ashley the.
Speaker 1 (01:52:32):
GOODNESS i know the ips.
Speaker 4 (01:52:34):
Those kids jumping out to school was that broad wave,
There it was so that there.
Speaker 1 (01:52:38):
Was another huge pile up ON i sixty five just
south of town In Johnson. County you, know we probably got.
Speaker 4 (01:52:44):
Too another three and a half four inches out In
bronsburg overnight.
Speaker 1 (01:52:48):
Snow so get him up and get him to, School,
mark let's.
Speaker 5 (01:52:50):
Go, Well i'm not, Me i'm already, here all. Right
the Problem in.
Speaker 1 (01:52:54):
The, meantime we got The bigs in championship game coming
up on The saturday, Night. KEVIN i was just messing
around during the break to see where the ticket situation
is right. Now and you can get tickets right. Now
you can go get, them but you better be prepared
to spend if you want to go low like in
section one, Thirteen row two, three four hundred and twenty
three dollars per ticket right, Now so for you, know
(01:53:16):
you And maddie could go for sixty eight.
Speaker 3 (01:53:17):
Hundred bucks by oh, sure, yeah not bad at.
Speaker 1 (01:53:20):
All.
Speaker 4 (01:53:21):
Yeah IF i give a quick shout out To jeff
for giving us Early christmas, presents, yes, yeah, yes, sure
he's SWEET a big.
Speaker 5 (01:53:26):
TEN i can't.
Speaker 1 (01:53:28):
Wait go wait at your office and don't move until those. Arrive, okay,
well don't go. Anywhere did? Breath so, ANYWAY i. ACCIDENTALLY
i was looking at some tickets that were like six
hundred just TO i was dialing around to see what's
there and accidentally hit the next. Button he, said.
Speaker 4 (01:53:43):
PURCHASE i was, like we're going for, Real, well this
scene's gonna be like what did you?
Speaker 1 (01:53:46):
Do BUT i hit the next button, accidentally which starts
the process of you is going to my and they
were gone. Already so if you're going to go spend
a ton of money on this or up and go
get it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
Done what do you guys think percentage will be in?
There indianna Versus Ohio state.
Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
Fans, well that's a good question Because Ohio state, travels
they travel very, well and they're.
Speaker 1 (01:54:05):
Drivable like you, SAID i bet sixty five to thirty Five.
Indiana does you think for as close as it, is
as long as they've been waiting for something like, THIS.
Speaker 4 (01:54:15):
I Think Ohio state is kind of like they're putting
their money towards the playoff game more than the they've
been to the big time. CHAMPIONSHIP i feel like basically
every year for quite a few.
Speaker 3 (01:54:25):
YEARS i Think i'm more With. MARK i think it'll
be north of. THAT i Get Ohio state. TRAVELS i
mean they do in their alumni basis, Massive but this
is the biggest day IN iu athletics in, decades maybe.
Ever you have literally in the state, capitol you have
the basketball team at two, o'clock the perfect little three
(01:54:46):
hour gap in between, games and your team trying to
win a football championship for the first time in their program.
History so what you're saying like eighty, TWENTY i mean seventy.
THIRTY i don't want to Underestimate Ohio state, fans but,
YES i think it'll be north sixty five to thirty.
Speaker 5 (01:55:00):
Five, OKAY i think.
Speaker 3 (01:55:02):
It'll feel like a home game For indiana and there
the game just.
Speaker 2 (01:55:05):
MEET i Think i'm rolling With jeff on this. ONE
i really do Think Ohio state because there's so many of.
Speaker 5 (01:55:10):
Them they're. EVERYWHERE i get there's so MANY iu.
Speaker 3 (01:55:12):
Fans that's, true that's.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
True BUT i feel like you can't necessarily, say, oh
they're gonna say their money to go to the playoff
game or.
Speaker 4 (01:55:18):
Whatever not every fan's gonna do. That, No BUT i
Think buckeyes fans, like we've been, there done.
Speaker 3 (01:55:23):
That, Yeah Ohio. State, Man it's it's a weird feel
to like one versus. TWO i. Saw it's the third
ever time we've gotten it in The Big. TEN i
remember the last Time Michigan Ohio state in six was
one of the, games, frankly one of the college football
GAMES i probably remember the. Most is the first time
we've had. It but it doesn't feel like maybe it's
at that, magnitude you, know because we're in this awkward
(01:55:44):
state with championship games right now of like what is
the meaning the winner hoisted? Trophy but from a playoff seeding,
standpoint you're, left you, know uncertain exactly of what great
benefits you get From Ohio state didn't even make the
game last year and what did they? Do mm? Hm
they won?
Speaker 1 (01:56:04):
It? All?
Speaker 3 (01:56:04):
YEAH i Mean oregon And Penn state played in the
game last. Year what happened to?
Speaker 1 (01:56:07):
Them things have changed so much. Too you talk about
two thousand and, SIX i mean the winner of that
game that was that meant something that.
Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Exactly and that that's kind of What i'm getting, at you,
know the true meaning of the. Game, again For indiana, football,
obviously A Big ten championship is just absurd to even.
Ponder but For Ohio, STATE i don't, know it just
seems like it's a shrug of the. Shoulders a little bit. More, yeah,
yeah a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:56:35):
More, Okay shane h might have the right to attack
to he, says those four hundred dollars tickets to get
in the door, seats they'll be closer to two hundred
Dollars saturday. Morning you, think right, THEN i.
Speaker 3 (01:56:47):
Mean unless a snowstorms come. IN i don't why would
they go? Down didn't we feel that way about like
Notreed aiu last year and they only went?
Speaker 5 (01:56:55):
Up, yeah that was crazy the.
Speaker 3 (01:56:57):
Closer and closer we got to and that weather was.
Awful you, know this is a controlled. CLIMATE i am
very curious How indiana Will AND i Think Kurtzy gnetti
has touched on. This he felt like At Ohio, state
especially last. Year you, know if you go back and
you think on that, Game indiana really played pretty good
football through the first twenty twenty five minutes of that,
game and then they dropped that snap on the punt
(01:57:20):
and it started to unravel from. There and that was
of course a road environment. There LIKE i IF i
were a betting, MAN i would Take indiana with these?
Points is it still five and a half?
Speaker 6 (01:57:30):
MARK i?
Speaker 5 (01:57:32):
Believe?
Speaker 6 (01:57:32):
See?
Speaker 3 (01:57:35):
Yeah to, ME i look At Ohio state Circling saturday
With michigan a lot more than THE a circle on this,
one Whereas, indiana you, know they really haven't played anybody
in a month or, so so this has kind of
been ever since Beating, oregon it's kind of been. This,
hey as long as you show up and don't GET,
covid and you're gonna make The Big ten title game
down to four and a, half starting to get some
money in on The, hoosiers that's what you're telling.
Speaker 5 (01:57:57):
Me, YEP i.
Speaker 1 (01:57:58):
Wonder IF i get close to like fourth three and
a half by the time kickoff.
Speaker 3 (01:58:01):
Comes you imagine these downtown.
Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
Businesses, yeah this is all hands on, deck right, This,
yeah this is all hands on.
Speaker 3 (01:58:10):
Deck and what that scene is gonna?
Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
Be?
Speaker 2 (01:58:12):
Like, YEAH i almost feel like you you should just
expect long lines and a lot of people, everywhere high
prices for a lot of, stuff, parking.
Speaker 5 (01:58:21):
Whatever but, hey you only live. Once, yeah pretty.
Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
Fair stay out of four sixty five On, saturday for.
Speaker 5 (01:58:26):
Real it's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:58:27):
Crazy you might have Your monday In, april but this
is gonna Be you're gonna hear this Is indiana blasted?
Speaker 2 (01:58:34):
Everywhere who? Who who who's. YOURS i might with the
candy stripes On. Saturday we'll see In. Jacksonville why? Not
have you seen everything else In? Jacksonville pretty wicky down,
there that's. True they won't judge. Me you might be
the best. Dressed actually.
Speaker 1 (01:58:49):
You. Might you might become the mayor Of jacksonville by
the time this weekend's.
Speaker 5 (01:58:52):
Over, OH i don't know about.
Speaker 2 (01:58:53):
That, well first Thing i'll do as a mayor is
make sure their press box doesn't leak true.
Speaker 5 (01:58:57):
Story like every every year we, go they towels.
Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
That line the windows of the press.
Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
Box is the pool above? IT i don't.
Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
Know it's it's very nique. Place to give you just
some context of how weird that place. Is we have
to scan our faces when we go into these games
FOR nfl And, kevin you know how it.
Speaker 5 (01:59:15):
Goes they have a little stand. There but In, jacksonville
you go.
Speaker 2 (01:59:20):
In this elevator to go up to the press, box
so you scan your face to get on the elevator makes,
Sense and there's literally no other floors between the floor
you get in on and the floor takes.
Speaker 5 (01:59:31):
You to the press. Box that's.
Speaker 2 (01:59:32):
It so you go up one floor and then there's another,
thing right when you get off to scan your face.
Again AND i remember walking past it once on accident
and the lady like stopped, me AND i was, like,
wait we should like give a skan your, face but
like there's nowhere you can go in the elevator. Ride i'm,
like DID i tell it port here or? What so
the everything they do there makes no.
Speaker 3 (01:59:50):
Sense, well that's why The colts haven't won there and
over a. Decade it's, true.
Speaker 1 (01:59:54):
All, right coming up at a, moment we'll finish up the.
Show tell you what we're going to be watching, tonight
a lot of great color basketball on, tap and we'll
take some of your final thoughts and comments on the
text line as. Well two, nine ten. Seventy we'll do
it next ninety. Three latest power rankings are out in
THE nfl ON espn dot com for whatever that's. Worth
The Indianapolis colts have fallen to number ten right, now
(02:00:16):
and it says The colts are five and oh When
taylor rushes for one hundred yards or. More that's a
bit of an oversimplification because he tends to close out
wins by running the ball and chewing up. Clock but
there is a relationship between The colts having an efficient
offensive performance And taylor being. Productive in recent, weeks neither
has been, true And india has lost three of, four
With taylor averaging sixty two point seven yards in those.
(02:00:39):
Losses how do you parse all of that? Out is
it one leads to the other or is it chicken
and egg kind of? There what's going?
Speaker 6 (02:00:47):
On?
Speaker 3 (02:00:47):
YEAH i mean SOMETIMES i think pure rushing, yards as
it's point out there can kind of be backdoored when
you have a lead and you put a game on.
Ice but you, KNOW i think it's also fair to
say just the overall effectiveness of the run game first
half or second half right now has not been at
the level that you. Want it's putting more pressure on
the passing, offense and right now you're passing OFFENSE i
think has some. Limitations With Daniel, jones is just inability
(02:01:10):
to move outside of the. Pocket you didn't see a
whole lot of bootleg stuff from The, colts and The
colts need more for some of their pass. Catchers Josh
Towns Michael Pittman. Jr, SPECIFICALLY i Thought Tyler warren just
looked a little he looked sick to. Me, FRANKLY i
guess On, sunday not.
Speaker 1 (02:01:25):
With, himself which he.
Speaker 13 (02:01:26):
Was.
Speaker 1 (02:01:27):
Yeah interesting Though James cults are still the highest ranked
team in THE Afc south according TO espn dot. Com
is that well having fun.
Speaker 5 (02:01:36):
At them LOVE.
Speaker 2 (02:01:37):
Espn don't care about their rankings because the real rankings
have them as a second team in THE Afc south
right now because of the tiebreaker with The, JAGUARS o
a huge game coming up when it comes to both
teams being eight and. Four you lose this, game your
grip on THE Afc south is very hard to get,
BACK i think at that point because of the tie
(02:01:57):
breakers and losses you might have against other teams in your.
Division so you definitely want to in that streak In
Duval county having won there in, forever but more importantly
for this singular, season get back on track and you,
know put yourself a position to not only win a,
division but make the, playoffs because, boy it gets bleak
if you keep dropping these division.
Speaker 1 (02:02:17):
Games, clearly we know The texans have an unbelievably good.
Defense that's that's carrying them and their. Offenses, look it's doing,
enough Right what Is jacksonville about right? Now What's Liam
cohen got? Going on with this, TEAM i got to
dive into. IT i usually get into that third of
stuff tomorrow And. Wednesdays BUT i do know that.
Speaker 2 (02:02:38):
They're a tougher team mentally nicer than to Be KEVIN i,
Thought and this isn't even Like Trevor lawrence is back
in his ball and he's playing great.
Speaker 5 (02:02:46):
Football he's been.
Speaker 2 (02:02:47):
Okay but they're just a gritty team and they find
a variety of ways to, win WHICH i think speaks
to what he's trying to build.
Speaker 3 (02:02:54):
There, yeah their offensive numbers aren't very. Impressive, defensively their
run defens has been very, good so to talk About,
sunday you know that matters. Now Trayvon, Walker Eric, armstead
two of their better defensive linemen didn't play in their
win Over, tennessee so that will be something to keep
an eye. On And Liam comb is pretty honest that
offensive line right, now they're banged up and they need
to play better up. Front so you know that obviously
(02:03:18):
would be an area that you would hope The colts
would take advantage of. IT i didn't think The colts
took advantage enough Of houston's offensive. Line, again that edge
pass rush continues to be a concern for, Me but,
YEAH i, mean just to put numbers behind What sunday
means playoff odd, Wise, james you guys had via The
New York, times if The colts win On, sunday your
(02:03:39):
playoff odds are at eighty five. Percent if you lose
fifty one, Percent and for THE Afc, south a win
would still be right out about a coin flip fifty
four percent a loss and it drops to fourteen, Percent
so you're talking thirty forty percent difference win or loss
(02:04:00):
On sunday for the playoffs or the. Division so once,
again as we've reiterated really for the last two weeks,
now this is the definition of a Massive december football.
Speaker 2 (02:04:11):
Game, yeah and it gives some perspective there of how
they kind of come to these. CONCLUSIONS a lot of
it has to do with the fact that The colts
end of season, schedule at least opponents they, face are
more formidable than the other teams in the. Division because
you look at The jaguars schedule down the stretch to The,
texans they're not facing the litany of playoff.
Speaker 5 (02:04:31):
TEAMS i would think that The colts.
Speaker 1 (02:04:32):
Are it's definitely a game that needs to be won
because just in terms of the, division you come out
of that three and one already against the, division or
two and two and your next two divisional games against
teams you've already lost. To it's, tough is what.
Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
Is As Josh down, said this is what you play.
For you want to be in these moments at the
end of the. Year so credit to him for having
that mindset and we'll see if that carries them through Come.
Speaker 1 (02:04:57):
Sunday all, right that's going to wrap it up for
us thanks To ricarli stopping by today along With JOEL. A.
Ericsson Jay query comes away from noon to three today
With koreer And company and then the ride WITH jmv
