Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, A minute to the midway point of the weekend.
We are just a day away from another cult's joint
practice against the Green Bay Packers. It's gonna be a
lot of fun. Indiana Fever stumbling fall last night. I
believe we were on the under of eighteen and a
half yesterday, Mark, so I need to pick the game
up a little bit today. Out of the gate. Mark
is holding a microphone this morning because his microphone's then
(00:21):
just snapped right as he was getting that.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
He talked to me during the Fever game last night.
He's like, juste, f why this thing is broken. I'm like,
we're really falling apart around here, a little bit like
the h That does look crazy.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
It's a lot of fun, I do. I was going
to start by talking about the Fever and again, another
horrendous referee performance last night. Didn't cost the Fever the game.
That wasn't the issue. It was bad throughout. But we'll
talk about that as the day goes along. But we
were talking about the the trash band is yesterday, right,
we were, Yeah, we were talking about nicknames remember from
all yea, Yeah, okay, trash pans And I thought you
(00:53):
liked the trash panda, and that's always been my favorite.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Nicka.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, and you asked, what's a trash pan and we
told you it's basically a raccoon. We talk about it
and it manifests because Mark is running just a couple
of minutes late today and Mark's never late, so I
call him up, go, hey man, you okay? Everything good?
And what's the story this morning? Mark Dyketon.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, I don't know if it was raccoons, but I
came out.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
You said that you saw trash bends this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
No I did not. I said the garbage was knocked over,
so I assume it was raccoons. But yeah, it's garbage
day today. So I went out there and I see
the garbage is tipped over, garbage on the sidewalks. I'm like, well,
I gotta clean this up. I'm not going to be
that guy, so clean it up and everything. But there's
maggots out there and everything like that's im grambing the
hose and all this stuff, Like I should not be
doing this. It's six something in the morning, so I
(01:37):
don't know what the hell happened. But yeah, see the
way he told them, it's gonna have a bit of
a mess to clean up one.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Well, you told the story of the first part. You're like, yeah,
some raccoons knocked the things.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Think they're raccoons. It's a pretty it's a twenty two gallon,
it's a gigantic tub, so I would assume some sizable
animal head to knock it over. And in the neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I just thought manifested raccoons into your trash cany because
we're talking abouts.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I don't know what they were, though.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Good morning everybody, jab Kevin, how you doing this morning?
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Yeah? All though sweat bees Mark, maybe those thousands of them,
just the non potable water in the carand together and
pushover Mark Dighton's trash.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
What it was.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
A little overnight rain. We'll greet you here on this
Wednesday morning. And yeah, one more cults practice coming up tomorrow.
Although I'm a little bummed, obviously. I hope Jordan Love
is okay, But it doesn't sound like the cults are
going to get quite the competition that they were hoping for,
with Jordan Love going to miss among others.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Well, that didn't matter last time they played the Packers, No,
it did not.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Malik Willis and the packers got the last laugh there.
But yeah, when Matt Lafleur is having to answer questions about, hey,
you're so banged up, did you think about canceling the
joint practice, that's probably not a good sign for where
Green Bay is from a health standpoint. So unfortunately, I
don't think it'll be quite maybe the peak competition tomorrow.
But nonetheless, one final day at Grand Park.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
And James, you had a terrific piece that we'll get
into later on today in the athletic where you just
kind of really zoomed in and focused on a d
Mitchell talking to some of the other wide receivers, talking
to some just really getting an inside look at who
this guy is and what potential he has locked inside
of him.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
There.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
Yeah, for sure, it was certainly an interesting piece. He
will usually request those at least once a year throughout
training camp. I'll take one training camp practice and use
the binoculars to watch every single thing that a player does,
and so it's a tedious but it is usually pretty fruitful.
So interesting piece. Hope you all enjoyed it, and yeah,
we can talk about it on the show, but I
(03:32):
definitely think we got to get into the Fever. That
was a painful loss. I see Kevin's got on the
Tito's hat. Maybe some people had that after the game,
the one point loss, but uh yeah, tough one last night.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Yeah, I think if there's such a thing as a
bad loss without Caitlyn Clark, last night would have been it.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
You know, Dallas without Rique, they had lost five in
a row. They aren't a great team to begin with.
You kind of add up all that, and it's not
like Paige Becker's went off off. I mean, she had
a nice game, but you know, it's not like she
had thirty and some highly efficient night there. And really,
the Wings deserve to win the game. I know the
Fever almost made kind of a roaring comeback there at
(04:08):
the end in the final ten to fifteen seconds was
pretty chaotic, But the Wings were the better team all
night long. So again, they've really avoided a lot of
these without Kaitlyn Clark. I think they've more than weathered
the storm. But you just don't want these two started
to become a common occurrence here as they close out
the regular season, and again, Kaitlin Clark's return does not
look like it's happening anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, it was. You got down by double digits in
the first half, and they rally, then you got down
by double digits again in the second half. In the
last five minutes of the game, they really start to rally.
As Kevin Apley pointed out, it was a really chaotic
last fifteen seconds. And as chaotic as it was and
as poorly as they played throughout the night, Kelsey Mitchell
took a shot at the end, not a great one,
(04:50):
but she took a shot at the end that could
have won the game.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
James, Yeah, I thought, honestly, the game probably got decided
with that hook call on Aleiah Boston. I thought she
actually got her arm pinned down by Lee you a
ru ru is she was, Yeah, But I thought she
pinned Aliyah's arm on that one play late and I
want to say it might have been the fourth.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Quarter, actually carried that across the lane, I think, And.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
They reviewed it and the call stood and it was
an and one, So obviously that's a three point swing
right there, And honestly, I just couldn't believe that that
call standed because if anybody watching the replay, Aliyah cannot
move her arm, she's not really doing anything but trying
to defend and got her arm pin and I guess
credit to Lee for forcing her ups to make a call,
But yeah, she was beyond that one play. She definitely
(05:36):
had a dominant performance and again a painful loss of
the Fever. But I would just you know, people will
get into the hole. They should have called time out.
You know what is Stephane White doing, Kelsey Mitchell, what
are you doing? Oh my gosh, this team is unlike
relaxed people. They they've won games they weren't supposed to win.
They finally lost when they were supposed to win. So
you know, they've been resilient all year. You know, the
sky isn't falling. They're stilling good spot. As far as
(05:57):
playoff position goes, it's just basketball sometimes, Yeah, you guys like.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
The reset rule. I missed it, Like okay, late last night,
Fever kind of have a mini transition after Page Becker's
misses a really good look. They're down one and Natasha
Howard I think was kind of handling it early. Nothing's
really there. So then Kelsey Mitchell gets it with about
eight seconds to go. She dribbles around for five or
six seconds. Nothing there. Again, Stephanie White is able to
(06:24):
take a time out, but in the WNBA they have
this reset rule where you don't huddle up in the timeout.
It's simply just to side out. So that's what happened
for the fever. I think it was one point seven
was on the clock when Stephanie White took that. Kelsey
Mitchell did get a shot off. Not a great, great look,
but generally, do you guys like the old reset time
(06:44):
out that the WNBA has.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
It moves it along. I like that. I wish going
back to James point about the pin down of Aleiah Boston,
My here's the thing that drives me crazy and almost
any sport, but I see it more and more often.
I think in the WNBA, maybe I'm paying attention to it,
but they go over there, they review the thing. Anybody
who's watching a TV screen, even the announcers are talking
about the fact that that's one of the most obvious
calls ever. You can see the pen down. You can
(07:07):
see her clamping her arm, dragging her across the lane,
and the guy goes, I had no contact. Call stands
and you're like, what are you looking at? Well, what
did we just do? For two minutes? So there's that,
But again, they would have had another time out. My
point is had they won that challenge, which they didn't win.
But at least the way I like the reset, I'm
okay with it because at least it just moves the
(07:29):
game along. You don't have two minutes stop, two minutes stop,
two minutes stop.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Well we did last night. It was one of the
rare currents, right, But I mean generally that's the three
ten game, the final three or four minutes there. Selfishly
for grays Burger, I was glad that that game wasn't
decided on her fouling Kelsey Mitchell. She is trying to
cling to WNBA life right now. She's with the Dallas Wings.
She closed out on Mitchell and had a huge foul
call late in that game. But yeah, I mean we'll
(07:53):
probably continue to bring up the end of the game
and the officiating. Again, the Fever didn't deserve to win
that game.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah, then there was another call earlier. Now, remember James,
when Lexi Hall is just all over the back of
a Dallas player for like three full seconds and they
never called that either. I just don't know what they're
looking at and what they're seeing and what they want
to see.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Yeah, I'm on the record saying I think the WNBA
is too physical, and not saying that as a slight
to the woman who play the game, but freedom of movement,
fouls and things like that. I'm like, man, you got
to probably give us a better product and call some
of the you know, other things. That way you can
actually get a basketball game versus what Kevin just said,
which was a Big Ten sort of feel. Whenever you
(08:31):
bring that up, I think if how Tyreese Holliburn when
he first got here and they were asking, Hey, you're
gonna stop by the Big ten tournaments at the tier
in your town, he was like, no way, I would
ever watch that boring basketball. So that comes to mind
when I think about the fouling and the Big Ten.
But nevertheless, you know, obviously you gotta all the cliches,
pick yourself up, hisself off, and see if you can
bounce back.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Also, listener Jason Ellis sent us an article about the
difference between a sweat bee and a hoverfly, and I
think we've determined that maybe based on the article he
sent in some of the pictures that the hoverflies are
what are bothering everybody up at campus this year. I
keep hearing sweat bees. I've never heard that before, but
apparently it's hoverflies. So Jason, thanks for sending me channel.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
The fogged it out, So I'm going to take Chapel's
word all right.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Hopefully they did. We'll find out a joint practices a
little bit later on tomorrow. I we'll take some of
your comments throughout the day, including phone calls to three, nine,
ten to seventy. You can also hit us up on
the fan text line, and if you were wont to do,
you can also continue to communicate with each other and
with us. The chat lives on the chat lot. The
chat lives there. We go and Mark, before we had
to break that you wanted to throw in about the
(09:39):
last twenty four hours.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
For we to lift this microphone up multiple times in
this first segment. You got the muscles over it out.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
You caught me. Yeah, this is a workout for you.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
We should probably tease Rick Carlisle going to join us
coming up here at eight o'clock. So, I think last
year our summer chat with Rick Carlisle curred right after
the Pascal Siakam re sign. This year, the summer chat
a little bit later because his basketball team played quite
a bit later here, So we're still about a month out,
a little over a month out from a media day
(10:08):
and training camp starting and all of that. Of course,
the NBA schedule is announced tomorrow. But Rick Carlisle Wednesday's
at eight, usually Tuesdays at eight. How about a Wednesday
at eight here on this August thirteenth.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
And Steven Older will join us at nine o'clock as well,
talk a little bit more cults. We'll do it all
with you as we roll through the morning here on
a Wednesday. It's ninety three five and one. I was
seven five fan, Good morning off. Your Wednesday is starting
off well. James Boyd, Kevin Bowen, Mark Dyke, and I'm
Jeff Rickard. The Indiana Fever lose last night to the
Dallas Wings eighty one to eighty the final score. Twice
(10:44):
they rallied from double digit deficits, but JB seventeen turnovers
in the end, key turnovers down the stretch, just couldn't
quite finish the job.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
No, it was obviously a painful loss for them, one
point loss. And you know you're gonna go back to
that last possession. Should you have called time out early.
But as Kevin alluded to earlier throughout the show, that
was a game they quote unquote they didn't deserve to
win because they played so poorly.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Kevin, you watched that game as well. Your thoughts as
they get ready to move on to Washington tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
No answer for am I saying it right?
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Lee?
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Your rou it is Lee?
Speaker 4 (11:18):
You you a roo? You a ru? So I need
to throw in an extra syllable, yes you a roo?
Was She is six seven and she came off the
bench and the Fever had no answer for her whatsoever. So, yeah,
if you can have a bad loss without Caitlin Clark,
I think this is it Wings that one of their
leading scorers. They lost five in a row. It's not
like the Fever are playing their first game back from
(11:39):
the Western trip.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
You know.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Sometimes you see teams struggle in that realm. So yeah,
disappointing to see against one of the worst teams in
the league Friday, the Mystics, that is next up for
the Fever.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, and I thought maybe there was a little lack
of point guard kind of caught up to him a
little bit last night. Kelsey Mitchell's been doing a good job.
She had just to assist last night. Sometimes you know,
it weighs on your game after game after game if
that's not your natural thing, and maybe they're running into
that right now. Yeah, I mean it's hard at this point.
You're trying to just get bodies out there. Odyssey Simms
made our debut for the Fever last night and hopefully
(12:12):
shared a better debut come or not better debut second
better second game come Friday.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
After going scoreless.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
All right, we'll move on to the Indiana Pacers. Rick
Carlisle is going to join us at eight o'clock this morning.
Ask him a little bit about what we do know
from the schedule that on the twenty third of October,
the Pacers will open the season against the Oklahoma City
Thunder over at Game Bridge. And I know that everybody's
looking forward to talking to Rick to see what he's
been up to this summer and get some more info
(12:38):
on I don't know, maybe the latest on Tyrese Haliburton,
everything else. We can also tell you In Major League
Baseball last night, since net Red got to win at
home over the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of six
to one, the Saint Louis Cardinals were shut out by
the Rockies. Mark, that's only the second shutout the Rockies
have posted all season long. We're in, We're on August already.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
It's crazy rock going on stink to high Heaven.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
They may be worse than the big Packers.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Well, nothing's worse than them, all right.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
White Sox over the Tigers by a score of nine
to six. Last night, the Indianapolis Indians won on the road.
They beat Scranton wilkes Bury. They were six five winners
over the Reial Riders.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
There.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
Those two teams will play again tonight on the road
at six thirty five.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
How about the Brewers just continually just so?
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Did I see that?
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Right?
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Eleven in a row for them? They are the second
NL team and Major League history to have two separate
eleven game win streaks in a season. The Mark's favorite team,
the nineteen thirty five Cubs. You know what the other
team to do that?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Livin died with that team.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Oh sure, I thought you had on for a while.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
The Mark Pryor's grandpa just helped us into presenters. Yeah yeah,
Carrie Woods offspring Yeah no. Today.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Also last night show hee O Tommy had his forty
third home run of the year, and he's.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Always in the news for other things besides baseball.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yeah yeah, apparently a partner dealing or being sued in
Hawaii for their interference nefariously. Someone claims of a real
estate deal out there.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
That was after his agent, Like what stole money from
him too? It's just like not the gambling agent, right,
this is another agent. Apparently I need to get around
some better people.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Show you know, show Hey, if you need a friend, brother,
hit me up. The dms are open k bo in
ten to seven.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
And you work much cheaper than those guys too.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
I'm guessing right, well, before I say cheaper, how about ethical?
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Wait, well, I think that one was saying that was good.
I'll we go without saying. What's a story song?
Speaker 4 (14:34):
You've got a friend in me?
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Right here?
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Hey, hand is raised, brother, share a kool Aid together,
armando whatever you want to call.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
It something kool aid squeezes.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Yeah uh.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
And the Indianapolis Colts will be back on the practice
field tomorrow. Kevin Bowen against the apparently Jordan Loveless Green
Bay Packers.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
We know left thumb a little procedure for him, so
non throwing, but he is going to miss sounds like
about a week for the Packers, so that is unfortunately
a bummer. And yes, Malik Willis, although I will say
that game was probably one more with Josh Jacobs and
the green Bay defense last year. But yeah, so it
will be Malik Willis's time, who I guess has really
struggled this camp through a couple of picks earlier this
(15:17):
week in of practice, green Bay again very banged up.
It's the battle of attrition. It sounds like green Bay
down like for their top wideouts and obviously the Colts
banged up in the secondary here. So the Jets really
handled green Bay and the preseason opener and that was
when green Bay did play their starter. So the plan
for the Packers they will play as many frontline guys
(15:37):
as they have coming up Thursday during the joint practice.
They will not not play them coming up Saturday afternoon
inside of Lucas Oil State. And one thing to note
in that game inside of Lucas Oil. I mentioned this
when Shane Stikeen originally laid out his preseason plan for
the quarterbacks. Just weirdly how the schedule has evolved here.
In Anthony Richardson's career, we talk a lot about how
(15:59):
much it costs to go to a preseason NFL game
and maybe the lack of entertainment you get for that dollar.
Anthony Richardson, I believe, going into Saturday, has thrown like
four passes in his preseason career inside of Lukosol Stadium.
He is seemingly only played on the road. Now it's
gonna change. He'll finally play an extended game at home. Obviously,
we hope go ahead and knock on wood wherever you are.
(16:20):
So for fans that are attending the game on Saturday afternoon,
you will get a little bit more of Anthey Richardson
than you're used to seeing in your home venue.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Let's hope he stays upright and has a nice night
and completes a.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Bunch of passes in nice afternoon right.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Yeah, after, I guess it is an afternoon, James, anything
else you want to throw it? Before we move along?
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Here?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Is the window going to be open? Is the roof
going to be open?
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:43):
We're going to get those tweets anymore?
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Makes the announcement on that now?
Speaker 4 (16:46):
I assume the Colts will just send it out from
their own account. Is it going to be hot? That's
probably a dumb question for me to ask.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Yeah, I'm going I'm you know, I haven't thought about it,
but yeah, I'm gonna miss the gym or say tweets about.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
Ninety two to guess that means roof closed, right if
you're in the sun. Yeah, that sounds awful.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
All knows. We only have one more day out there, Kevin,
one more brother.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
All right, that's what's happening in the world of sports.
Coming up in a few minutes, we'll talk a little
bit more about the fever last night. The Indiana Pacers
will look to get their schedule released done Thursday. Rick
Carlisle is going to join us on the program at
eight o'clock this morning. We'll talk a little bit more
Colts training camp, some notes around the National Football League.
It's all dead ahead and do we think now too?
It was it was raccoons or coyotes. People are pointing
(17:32):
out on the text line.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
I've never seen either in Brownsburg. So that you're a
good guess, is as good as mine?
Speaker 4 (17:38):
You describe Mike wells, oh.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
We found our perpetrator. I think that's so.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
It is Mike calling and defend yourself. He knows I
have audio be honest.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Unless that man's golf and he ain't doing anything at
seven twenty three in the morning.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
That's probably true. We will continue the program on a
Wednesday morning at seven twenty three as you were on
your way either to school or work or both. Will
continue next on ninety three to five and one seven
five the fans. Good morning, everyone, Welcome into the Fan
Morning Show high top the Circle in downtown Indianapolis. The
Colt's getting ready for a weekend preseason game against the Packers.
(18:16):
They'll have joint practices tomorrow. But Jordan Love, who had
surgery on a left hand ligament, gonna be out for
at least a week, they said, Kevin, so he won't
be around to play in this one.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Malik Willis, Sean Clifford, and some dude who went to
Mark please look this up, uh Wilford lorie A University.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Wow, I don't think I've ever heard Have you ever
heard of that?
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Kevin?
Speaker 1 (18:45):
I've never heard of that.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
It's got to be made up. There's no He's one
of those people that, like does the catfishing commit on
signing day to like school that you've never heard of Will.
I don't even know if I'm saying that, right, what
do you think Division III?
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Maybe they'd beat Wabash.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
On the Sweet sixteen a.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Few years ago, you'd think we did it.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
I'm famous Taylor Mark if if that?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Yeah, Taylor EGGLERZMA, which sounds like a disease you get
diagnosed with at the hospital.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
So what happens with that guy in the second half
is like eleven of seventeen for one hundred and fourteen.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Let's not go down that. But yeah, those are the
three quarterbacks, Willis Clifford and the dude who played at
some school we've never heard is a D three Mark.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Uh, it's Wilford Lawyer University. I'm trying to see what
division they are. I'm trying to even see.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Where they're the second word lawyer, la you are I
e R.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
I think French on that. Yeah, yeah, that's where I went.
I guess I should go with our French expert here, Jeff,
and ask him.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I've been there for a couple of weeks. I know
everything now. That's how that hapens.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
So yeah, Unfortunately, the challenge I don't think will be
as a men's gain. Green Bay rather banged up, I
mean defensively, you know, last year in that week to matchup,
they were pretty stifling. Jeff Halfley, their defensive coordinator, came
over from Boston College. He's one of those head coaches
in college became a coordinator in the NFL. So yeah,
I mean, anytime you see somebody else, I do think
(20:08):
it's more beneficial. But unfortunately, I don't think it'll be
maybe as big of a challenge as we once thought
it would be.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
That university located in Ontario.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Well, there you go. That's probably why I've never heard of.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
It, right m hm. Now see, we've all learned something today. JB.
I'm just curious any of you guys, Mark, are you
a UFC guy at all? Have you ever purchased any
of the pay per view or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
No, I've been at bars where they've aired, but never
like willingly purchased.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
I've never purchased one of those of you, JB, or
been around one or gone to a party where that
was going on or anything like that. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (20:38):
I've gone to a few one fights on in the background,
but I couldn't tell you a lot about UFC just
because I'm not a huge fan of it, and usually
if I'm going to a party about it. It's because
there's good food there.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Yeah, the pay per view days are over. As of yesterday,
Dana White and UFC signed a seven point seven billion
dollars deal. Apparently everything they do is now going to
be on Paramount.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
So Paramount is the CBS streamer. Yeah, yes, I feel
like Paramount's the one that's been last to the game.
And I could be biased here, like when I speak
from a Notre Dame standpoint, like they have air games
on Peacock for about the last probably four or five years.
I remember they almost lost a Toledo uh in a
game on Peacock. I think all the Notre Dame haters
quickly downloaded Peacock during that game. And yeah, so I
(21:26):
feel like that one has, you know, been a little
bit more prevalental. Fox Sports we're currently probably talking about
a bit of a streaming service given their new investment
in the IndyCar. But yeah, Paramount Plus, I I don't.
I mean, it's never crossed my mind to sign up
for Paramount Plus, I guess is what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Land Man right on Paramount, Yes, that is alone.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
I watched land Man. See what he did there?
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Yeah, so yere with shoe hee Otani. Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah's something you're doing.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Something's happening there.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
Yeah, so, oh, I can't do any of you, Mark, Jeff,
Do you guys have paramount Plus?
Speaker 2 (22:03):
We have it only because my sister in law has
it and we passwords share with them.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Yeah, but I don't really.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Does anyone organ anyone organically pay for paramount Lust?
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Jeff never, No, I don't you know.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
Came sounded like he was on the committee for Netflix
when they told us we couldn't share pass for.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
I'm not gonna sit here. Yeah, I'm on my moral
high ground here and I don't share passwords. But what
I'm getting now, it's Wendy hit them on the moral
high ground. What I'm getting at is paramunt Plus. I
don't think is one that a lot of people pay.
But having said that, this deal is huge, wasn't it
north the seven billion?
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Yeah? And look, if you're somebody who regularly pays for
the pay per view events, isn't it worth it to
you to just get a streaming service?
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Now?
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Yes, I would think so. Maybe people who do love
the UFC and watch it all the time. One of
the things that's kept me from really ever paying much
attention to it is. I just wasn't gonna pay for
the pay per view, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Because they are any ESPN Plus you had to buy
like the ESPN Plus subscription and then on top of that,
pay for the pay per view with that, which is
like another eighty bucks a month. I'm like, that's insane.
Speaker 6 (23:02):
Well as the person who carries all of my family
subscriptions on my freaking back, I'm not buying anymore.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
So I told you do it for grandma though, don't you. Yeah,
I pay for Grandma's but everybody.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
So my parents like, do we have this? I love
you guys, but I am maxed out. You have access
to my Max account. My grandma has Netflix, you got
Apple TV, you got ESPN Plus, Disney Plus.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
I'm done. So if you wanted my dad's like, do
we have Ladman? I have Lambman?
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Grandma, you will not get my only fans.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Well, that's late it quickly, but we already. All you're
gonna see is speedos shots of Speedos on there. Probably right, she's.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Gonna be asking who this Kevin Bowen character is.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
So it makes me wonder though, and I want to
get everybody's thoughts and feel free to either, you know,
call us up at two three nine ten seventy or
send us a text at two three nine ten seventy
on the fan text line. I'm just curious, are we
inching closer and closer to today's where we can't even
watch the cults here at some point without having a
subscription to somebody on streaming. I don't know that five
(24:04):
or ten years from now everything is going to be
on streaming.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Yeah, I don't think got days anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
I hope no, I hope not. But you look at
all the money that these these streamers are investing.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
I mean, what's when's the broadcast deal come up? I mean,
we obviously have to get to the end of.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
That two or three years away. Is that it will
take a look at it.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
I have a longer brought attention deal in that.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
But the point is like when our kids, you know,
my kids are sixteen and seventy, when they are ten
years from now, when they're twenty six, twenty seven, do
they still just get to PLoP down in front of
CBS at one o'clock on Sunday afternoon and watch the culture.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
The media rights deal is for eleven years. That the
twenty twenty three, so it's it's definitely not two or
three years away.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
We're going I can't even imagine ten or eleven years
down the road, to be totally honest with you, But
you know, I will say, from a sports standpoint, I
would say the thing that is probably gluing together one
particular entity more than any other is March Madness in
that TV deal. And when that comes up, I want
to say, it's twenty thirty two when that comes up,
(25:04):
the future of college athletics. Again, Imagining things seven years
down the road seems a hair ludicrous, but nonetheless, by.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Then Max Bowen's going to be trying to figure out
who do I want to go Division.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Football? You no chance by then my kids are gonna
be coming over and setting stuff up for me because
I won't be able to figure it out.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Can you imagine what a streaming service would pay for
the rights to March Madness or something along those lines.
May so, again, we are always aways down the road, yeah, Nora, Rosie.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
And it's not streams though too. So I'm just curious
and I want to hear from folks who love the UFC.
I would think it's a bargain for them if they've
been paying for you know, five or six times a
year whatever it is, mark.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
What's paramount a month?
Speaker 6 (25:50):
And it's going to I think it's like six bucks
a month or something like that, and I'm guessing it'll
go up maybe that based.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Off what if you got it?
Speaker 3 (25:59):
You know you want to.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
I already learned that you're not going to share your
password with me, so I know that.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Oh, no chance I cut family off though.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
It is what it is.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
It says it's seven ninety nine per month, and then
if you want to add it to get showtime as
well as twelve ninety nine. Yes, Aaron from Minnesota says
he gets it because a Landman and Tulsa King are tremendous.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Oh, it's it's also the streaming service thank you here
to this tweet for a lot of the UF Champions
League and all that.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Yeah, EPI on it.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
So that's probably something that I don't know a chunk
of the sports audience has. That's not my cup of tea,
but I totally get a good amount of people do
have that.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Yeah, I would imagine that people it looks it's probably
a bargain for them and Dana White doing something a
little daring again. I know people were lauding him for
that yesterday that they're they're stepping out. So I was
just curious what people are willing to spend. I'm curious,
do you know Mark what you spend for streaming a month? Yeah, Jesus,
this is like, because I know it's well over, what
(27:02):
are doing bucks in our house?
Speaker 2 (27:03):
YouTube TV? What is eighty two bucks a month? And
I just got the first of three installments taken out
for Sunday Ticket, which was one hundred and eight and
then yeah, good lord Disney plus Hulu all that. Yeah,
it's probably senior.
Speaker 6 (27:18):
W two over while you're at Yeah, I'm gonna you know,
access to you know, all of your last banks.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
You do share a lot of passers. I mean say
that what we do, there's no other way we're going
to be affording all this.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
They respect. More power to you.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
I do want to pivot a bit though, when we
look at tomorrow's practice. I do know that obviously Jordan
Love will not be available Kevin, but I honestly had
to remind myself of how Malik Willis had the game
of his life against this Colts defense last year, and
I see that tongue in cheek because I was it
like a sixteen to ten game or something like that.
But from a mobility standpoint and a I can create
(27:55):
something out of nothing standpoint, I do wonder how this
linebacker grew will respond to a player like him. I'm
not saying he's a great player, but someone who can
move on the run, who can you know, extend plays.
What does that mean for your linebacker core and how
do they respond to that? And I'm curious to see
what that entails because that's a group that I'm feeling
(28:18):
a little more concerned about after the preseason opener, and
I'm not feeling great about going into the second preseason
game just because from a coverage standpoint, I don't know
if I can trust them.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Yeah, I thought run game wise, that group got torched
in that first half of the Baltimore game.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
And again, Malik gives you some of that run elements.
So I'm like, between the run and the coverage is
like the duel threat quarterback the guy. Obviously, I mean
in theory, they're gonna cause fits for every defense, but
for your defense in particular, will it become even more
apparent like man, maybe we need some other players at
that spot.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Yeah, you know, I'm trying to think from a schedule standpoint.
I don't know. Kyler Murray comes to mind. I mean,
there's not a ton if I remember correctly, on this
year's slate. Yeah, we'll obviously see how you know play out,
because you know, one injury, I e. Jordan Love to
Malik Willis, and stylistically it's a vastly different quarterback than
what you're used to. Love is definitely more of a
pocket passer than Willis. So boy, I honestly, when I
(29:13):
saw that news yesterday and I realized Malik Willis was
the starter, it just brought up so many bad memories
a week two and again to your point, it's not
like Malik Willis sliced and diced you to three hundred yards.
But if I remember correctly, like Josh Jacobs just ran
all over the Colts in the first half. They protected
Malik Willis like no other and he had a couple
(29:34):
of like nice passes and that was it. And then
their defense was stifling. And you know, for those that
misremember last year, remember we had the Packers and Eagles
play in Brazil on that Friday night of opening weekend,
Jordan Love gets hurt, like on one of the last
plays of the game, like a flukeal Mary, he gets
(29:56):
hurt on and I'm watching it. The game was largely over.
This is like midnight, and I'm watching that play. I'm like,
what a break the Colts just got. Jordan Love just
gets hurt on a you know, very non consequential play
and then boom, next thing, you know, Week two rolls
around and the Packers get the last laugh and the
Colts start zero and two, and you know, for seemingly
the upteenth season in a row, you're climbing uphill again. Defensively,
(30:20):
it seems like Green Bay is in a better health situation,
so evaluation wise, that should be key, or at least
a little bit more of an accurate evaluation for the
Colts there. So again, this is it tomorrow Grand Park,
three o'clock. That will be the final joint practice and
then we'll obviously see the Colts starters for around a quarter.
It sounds like Anthony Richardson a little bit longer coming
(30:42):
up Saturday afternoon, and the plan for Matt Lafleur and
Green Bay is they will not play their starters, you know.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
And you talk about little PTSD for Colts fans last year.
That's why Gus Bradley's not around losing to Malik willis
losing two the Giants and the backup quarterback that they
had rolling in with Drew Locke and getting rolled over
with the running game and a lot of things they've
done in the offseason, particularly in the secondary. James to
(31:09):
try and fix that and then bring it in on Rumo.
And from that perspective, I can see why some Colts
fans might be a little more optimistic that they're going
to win a game or two more than than one
last year.
Speaker 6 (31:19):
Yeah, and then I think you look at the quarterback playing,
You're like, are you sure? Because it always comes down
to the quarterback. I mean, unless the defense is going
to score a bunch of touchdowns for him, they'll need
either QB to step up and have probably a much
better year, well not probably, certainly a much better year
than they had last year to have any type of success.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
You think completion percentage matters? James and training camp.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
In training camp, yes to a degree.
Speaker 6 (31:48):
I'm not going to like a loose sleep over it,
but well, can I give a cop out answer and
say it depends on who you're talking about, because if
you're telling me.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Well, I don't know, expand on that a little.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
If you tell me, oh my gosh, Patrick Mahomes is
completion percentage in training camp this year is.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Fifty, I couldn't. I couldn't care less.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
If you tell me to Anthony Richison the politioner percentage
in training camp is not good, I'll probably be thinking, Okay, well,
is he making any progress? So maybe I read more
into it depending on who the player is, but I'm
still not like too beholden to it as a stat
in training camp, mainly because it's also I mean, do
we even keep official stats?
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Can't we keep official stats? Then we're gonna show us
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
Yeah, it's in question that I threw Jim Bob Cooter's way.
Speaker 6 (32:34):
I saw you closing up to him. I said, who,
Kevin's on his PI? Well, detective work. He had, he
had the hat on, he had the sunglasses. He was
basically saying like, I saw you out, you know, late, late,
late at night.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Less.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
I was in front of everybody, but they were kind
of a logjam of people.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
It's a bad move I've learned it myself now.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
They asked if I could do that one off to
the side, So basically he said something the effect of
how you just kind of let off, like it does matter,
but it's not the end all be all, Okay, It's
something that they emphasize. They try not to overemphasize it though,
And he brought up a statement here of like, if
you want to as a quarterback, you can kind of
artificially boost that number, you can inflate it. So I
(33:14):
would ask this to you, do you think Daniel Jones
is artificially boosting his completion percentage? Like do you think
he's not testing things in camp? Or is this just
who Daniel Jones as a quarterback?
Speaker 1 (33:27):
I feel like having watched him with the Giants over
the last several years, it's kind of who he is
as a quarterback. He doesn't push the ball downfield. He
will take the safe, easy throw, which is fine except
that you don't move the sticks all the time. And
that's kind of been who Daniel Jones has been the
last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
What do you think James, Because he's about I don't know,
eight or nine percent higher than Richardson in camp, if
you want to get into the unofficial numbers, I don't know.
Sixty sixty one for Richardson, I think Jones is close
to seventy.
Speaker 6 (33:58):
Yeah, I mean, I just think Jones is a more
efficient player, So by default he's going to have the
numbers kind of be inflated in his favor.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
In that regard, So.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
For him, I again, I look at the quarterback more
so than like the police of percentage depending on who
it is. So for Dale Jones, the completion percentage to
me might not matter as much just because I know
you can, you know, get the ball to the receiver.
It's can you do it and move us down the field.
As I've said throughout these recent shows, you can't dink
and dunk your way to the playoffs. And I don't
(34:30):
care what anybody says. You can tell me, oh, he
completes eighty percent of his passes, Do they go anywhere?
Because if you do that long enough against good defenses,
you're going to lose a lot of football games.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
So I don't know, that's a good question.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
It's fan Morning show. You're at the ninety three five
one seventy fan get back to us.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Ken's got me like a philosophy clar.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
This, you know, when we get into the regular season,
I think pretty universally, Frank Raik for example, definitely Shane
Styke as well. The yards per attempt stat is one
that I think a lot of NFL coaches, particularly offensive minds,
will say that's a pretty good stat to evaluate quarterbacks on.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I think it's a better indicator in my brain of
your success.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
We don't all have that in training and again, nothing's
perfect in training camp. By no me, I mean, trust me.
There are times where I'm.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Like, I trust your official stats anybody else or not.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
You know, are you counting that as a completion or
are you not counting that as a completion. So, you
know a lot of people poke fun at you know,
why are you keeping training camp stats? And I get
why people look at it skeptically from the outside, So
I was curious. I was like, okay, you know, here's
Jim Bob Couter. For example, he called all the place
Thursday and practice Shane Steke and was like the ref
with the megaphone, and Jim Bob Couter was a play caller.
(35:43):
I'm like, okay, to the play caller, it doesn't matter.
It sounds like it does. It's not gospel, it's not everything,
but it does sound like it matters a bit here.
And you know, this kind of comes back to I
think the general question that Shane stike In probably has
to sit there and ask himself, at can I win
with a game manager? That's largely what you'd be going
(36:07):
to with Daniel Jones. You obviously hope his turnover numbers
would come down, But are you sitting here saying, wait
a minute. We have one of the best running backs
in the league. We have a first round pick, a
tight end of our top four wideouts, all of them
were taken in the first what three rounds? We have
an offensive line that we feel like is one of
the better units in the league. Given the ten you
(36:27):
have around that quarterback, there's probably a little bit of
a thought to Shane Sikins, like, man, if we can
just again get someone that keeps us afloat now, is
that enough? Or is your defense once again going to
be a bottom third unit in scoring defense and you
know you're gonna need more from the quarterback position. I
think that is the internal battle Shane stiken has and
(36:49):
trying to sit here and say, all right, what do
we need at quarterback in my third NFL season as
head coach.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Just curious knowing that they're going to reverse the roles
because Anthony Richardson injury last week. When do you think
we get a nod at starting quarterback? Any wait till
after the third preseason game or does somebody take a
step forward this weekend?
Speaker 2 (37:13):
When did they announce it?
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (37:16):
I would think they have to do it after this game.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
I would do it after this game personally, because at
some point you got to just walk into your locker
room and tell your guys who you're rolling with. And
I think two preseason games is enough of a simple
size and in that third game you probably want to
have it figured out. Someone's on everyone's on the same page.
I still probably play my guys, as Kevin alluded to,
I believe yesterday. So yeah, I think after this week
(37:39):
he should probably announce the starter.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Yeah, yeah, that's That's probably where I'm at as well. Again,
we will not see any practices moving forward after tomorrow.
Tomorrow is our fine. I mean we will see what
stretching and.
Speaker 6 (37:52):
Does that Kevin, use your hype brother and look over
the fences at what do we what are they paying
you for a one seven, five.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
To the fanal individual period. James is like boosting me
up into Maybe I can have Rick Carlisle just fly
me over the Eagle Airport.
Speaker 6 (38:06):
Will be one of those trench coaches. Wait, why I
get on your shoulders, I get the glasses and the mustache, and.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Interlock your hands and let him put his foot on
there and then boost him up over the fence.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
There be like andy defrain and like dig yourself in
just like the ground. There's multiple ways.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
To do this.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Crones, how about thrones?
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Yeah, to James's point, I don't know. I get a
little vibe from Shane that he would like to have
this done this time next ones. Yeah, but yeah, I
know this is where it gets back to, Okay, what
if Anthony Richson comes out and has a very blah
performance on Saturday? Can you really name him the starter
(38:45):
after that?
Speaker 6 (38:45):
I wouldn't if he came out and had a horrible Man,
what do you do next Saturday?
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Are you playing them each a quarter against Cincinnati? Are
you continuing through the preseason game. It's just you know,
probably once you get through they will still I assume
camp it up a little bit like Tuesday Wednesday at
practice next week. Right, again, we won't watch it for
the full allitment that we're allowed to.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
Now, but.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
He's got room on the schedule, I guess, is what
I'm saying, to probably do it for one more week.
Then the Miami stuff really takes center stage of all Right,
you gotta start preparing for week one. You know, we're
less than two weeks away from rosters, so if he
would like the schedule wise, he could probably keep it
going for another week. But again, from a let's commit
to someone, let's give them three weeks of the full
(39:32):
starting reps, that probably is something he would like to
entertain as well.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Yeah, it kind of feels like though. Still then unless
Daniel Jones does something special in Anthony Richardson is just
awful awful, it still feels like it's Ar's job to lose.
I know we've talked about that a little bit, but
is it that.
Speaker 6 (39:49):
Big of I was going to say, I don't feel
that way necessarily. No, what do you feel I've been
saying on the show the last couple of days. It's
closer than people think it is. And I think that
they could absolutely start Daniel Jones, especially if Anthony has
a bad game.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
This is look coming Saturday.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
But deep down, don't you think they want Anthony Richardson
to win this competition? They need him to win this competition.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
I think self preservation kicks in at some point. I
really do think that.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
I think that you can want it, and you can
wish it all you want to.
Speaker 6 (40:15):
But if this dude comes out against the Three Bay
Packers and he plays the most of the first half
and he looks bad or he gets injured again, there's
gonna be serious conversations about, Okay, do we actually play
this guy. I understand the upside where he was drafted,
but self preservation will kick in at some point. Everyone's
gonna have to come to the conversation. I'm saying, do
we want to marry our futures in our job ten
(40:36):
years to Anthony Richardson? And if the answer is no,
then you start the other guy.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
It's gonna be fascinating to watch it play out. But again,
we'll have a joint practice tomorrow Cults and Packers. Do
you point out, Kevin, that's the last chance that anybody
publicly gets to see the cults practice for a while.
That's it.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
That is it.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Earlier end to training camp than usual. So yeah, August fourteenth,
it is about what is it twelve thirteen days? I
think something like that if you have them all up
at Grand Park. So yes, tomorrow is it from an
open practice standpoint? And I guess for those that have
come across tickets or are trying to go, I thought
it was sold out. I believe this is one of
those premium practices. I think it does cause like five
(41:14):
or ten bucks to all proceeds I believe go to
the Flag Football Association. So just a little FYII there.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Last time to get your bucket hat signed by James Boyd.
I want at least two sides tomorrow. I don't want
to be damaging any more.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
You know, equipment out there for you know, protect yourself
from the sun and not my signifare two.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Signs of a bucket hat for James, and I want
Kevin to get someone bring Kevin another kool Aid package.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
Yeah, Blue Power Aid. The man in the Florida shirt,
I forget his name. That was so just nice of
him to bring that clutch with a little Blue Power Aid.
It probably started all this drama we've had over the
past few weeks.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
You very crotchety about all that.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
All right, Coming up in a minute, the head coach
of the Indiana Pacers, Rick Carlisle, stops by. The guys
will have a chat with him about his summer and
what's going on there. We'll talk about his thoughts on
the opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder and everything else Pacers.
As we continue next, it's ninety three five and one
a seven five the.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Fan and he had the coldest looking blue power rate
I've ever seen, and I mean my mouth was watering.
I mean, I thought to myself, that thing looks immaculate.
I want that thing just mark, go ahead and clip
it out. I mean, that just looks beautiful. Well, good
(42:26):
Wednesday morning to you. A little overnight rain will greet
you if you haven't been outside this morning. Looks to
be decent temperature wise, if you haven't made to the
State Fair or one more colts training camp practice coming
up tomorrow shouldn't be two too hots, But let's head
to the payloss lookers hotline right now. The NBA schedule
gets fully announced coming up tomorrow. We did see opening
(42:47):
night inside a Gamebridge Field House announced yesterday it will
be Pacers and Thunder coming up a nationally televised game
and to talk more about that. He is the head
coach of the Indiana Pacers. Our summer chat, if you will,
and to Tuesdays at eight, how about Wednesday at eight?
He is Rick Carlisle, coach. Happy summer, Good morning to you.
How are you.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
I'm all right, what's happening?
Speaker 4 (43:10):
We're living life? Uh I before we get into maybe
some basketball conbo, what's uh, what's been on the summer
agenda for you? Any any great trips, anything you've looked
forward to doing this summer that you've gotten accomplished.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
Uh yeah, some some moving around to different places. But
it's it's been good. And you know, it's a very
short summer obviously because when you play the last thing,
you play your last game of the season, of the
last possible day of the finals, it's, uh, the summer
is pretty short.
Speaker 4 (43:47):
I mean to ask you this, and and I don't
know if you meant moving around. Have you met within
the Indie area, but when you have been in Indy
obviously you were, you know, the head coach a couple
of decades agoing Now, have you always lived in the
same area or do you have a particular like a
part of town that you really enjoy.
Speaker 3 (44:05):
Well, We've we've lived in three different parts of town.
When I was first there as an assistant, we lived
in a pocket of homes called Golden Hill, which was
down kind of adjacent to Woodstock Country Clubs. It's kind
of like thirty eighths and Martin Luther King area. It's
a kind of an eclectic group of homes that's older.
(44:30):
That's pretty cool. And interestingly, when when I came in
nineteen ninety seven to work with Larry Bird, Dick Harder
also came with us, and we ended up buying a
house that Dick Harder and his wife Mary had lived
in when he was an assistant coach with Jack Ramsey
(44:52):
in the mid eighties, and so it's kind of a
coincidental thing. And the house also had been owned at
one time by form mayor Hudnut, so the house has
some interesting history. The second time we were in the
forty fourth and Penn area, I guess it's Merdy and Kessler,
and then you know, now we're up north in in
(45:12):
the Carmel area, So uh yeah, I'm mixing it up.
But I've enjoyed all three all three spots.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
Where canny pilot lessons.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
As of late, I've I've flown a little bit, but no,
no lessons. I'm not I'm not current right now. I've
got a few. I've got a few jet hours this summer.
But that's that simply means sitting in the left seat
with a highly trained instructor on my in the right
(45:43):
in the right seat, and you know, I'm doing the controls.
I'm doing takeoffs and landings and stuff like that. And uh,
you know I could do that stuff, but I would
I certainly would not be doing it by myself.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
I respect that.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
I respect that.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Any More, to the basketball side of things, we see
that ty Reice is making some progress throughout his achilles
rehab and I believe he'll be out of the boot
fairly soon, if he isn't already. So have you spoken
to him recently? And where is he at in his
recovery just mentally and physically right now?
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Yeah, I have spoken to him recently. I've spoken to
him quite a few times this summer. He's in he's
in great spirits. He's just you know, he always has
a positive outlook on things. And you guys saw where
he and his girlfriend Jay got engaged. That was pretty
(46:38):
spectacular event that you know, they head over social media,
which is pretty cool. That happened up in uh in Names,
Iowa at their alma mater, and that was a complete surprise,
but he pulled it off there in grand fashion. So
congrats to them. But this is I don't know, this
(46:59):
is all going by, asked. You know, it's been a
month and a half already, maybe even a little more
than that, and the thing's gonna fly by. This season
coming up is gonna fly by. You know, time is
is flying by, and before you know it, he'll be back,
you know. And uh, things are still cutting edge down
in the medical world that these guys you know now
(47:21):
now don't just recover from this kind of injury. They
make a full, full recovery. And so we're seeing it
with Isaiah Jackson and James Wiseman. Those guys have been
really busting their butts, you know, during their entire rehab
and yesterday, uh Isaiah did some five on five work
(47:43):
in the gym and they're doing real well. And Wiseman
is you know, they're they're right about neck and neck
in terms of where their recovery is at Wiseman maybe
slightly ahead, you know, because his surgery I think was
eight or ten days ahead of Isaiah's. But but the
hope is that those guys will be ready to go
come training camp.
Speaker 4 (48:03):
So summer Chat with Rick Carlysle normally Tuesdays at eight
it is a Wednesday morning and where you appreciate the
coach hopping on with us here. Really enjoyed you with
Caitlin Cooper on her podcast last week, Coach, and in
that you mentioned to her that, you know, at different
times this summer you've had people either randomly contact you
(48:24):
or just come up to you and say, how really
inspirational the run was all the way to the finals
into Game seven last year. Do you think, like anything
in particular is why that run has stood out to
so many people? Not I guess just purely Pacer fans, Like,
was there an element? Have people shared with you a
particular reason why it's that run that has felt you know,
(48:47):
people the need or the urge I guess to go
up to you and and and say that.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
Yeah, you know, when you run into you know, civilians,
non you know, non NBA people, they just you know,
they just talk about you know, uh, these the word inspired,
you know, it was it was inspirational, and it you know,
(49:14):
it just restored my faith in the NBA. Here's some
things like that, you know, like to see a team
play that hard and that together and all that and
this is this is all the credit goes to the
players for this. And so you know, talking to NBA people,
you know, running into people in Vegas. I was at
(49:36):
a zoom a couple of days ago with our executive
committee of the Coaches Association, along with some members of
the Competition committee. And and in fact, I ran into
an assistant coach with one of the Eastern Conference teams
about five days ago down here where we are in
(49:56):
South Carolina, and and he said, you know, you got
you guys. You guys are changing the game, changing the
way game is played, the full court pressure, the way
people are looking at roster construction, all that kind of stuff.
And so uh and I've gotten that comment or sentiment
(50:17):
on several occasions. And so obviously our fans should be
very proud, our players should be very proud. You know,
myself and the coaching staff is is proud. But you know,
the work is, the work goes on and it never
gets easier, and to to set a standard is one thing.
(50:38):
To maintain a standard and then and then work to
uh increase that standard is is something totally different.
Speaker 4 (50:47):
You obviously have to live in a world where pretty
soon you got to fully fully turn the page, and
maybe already have. But have you found yourself at any
point in this offseason going back and watching any part
of that run or maybe thinking back on any part
of it that really stands out to you? I mean
so many games. I was talking with somebody yesterday about it,
and it's like, it wasn't just that you got to
(51:08):
Game seven. It was really cinema. It was like Hollywood
type eight points to nine seconds. It seemingly happened a
handful of times throughout that run. Have you gone back
and watched any of it anything stand out? Or is
it fully turned the page?
Speaker 3 (51:25):
Yeah? I watched. I did not watch, well, I should
say I watched. I watched the beginning of Game seven.
I watched the first I guess it was four and
a half minutes where Tyree shipping his third three and
they call time out and I just shut it off there.
(51:47):
I didn't really want to see anymore. But you know,
you watch all the games obviously, you know, as you
go through that and I thought back to it, you know,
there have been some things that looked at this summer.
You know, when we acquired Jay Hoffe, I went back
and looked at some of the minutes where he played
(52:07):
against us when he's a Memphis because we played them
also in a preceding game last year. And so yeah,
I mean it's that, but I'm I'm usually pretty good
at turning the page and and moving forward. You know.
It's if things if things do end in a difficult way,
which just did, it's it's just is uh, it's it's
(52:29):
just to me. It's it's this great motivation to jump
into the next thing. And so the next thing is
is a year where you know, there's going to be
amazing opportunity for our team, our guys. You know, expectations
around the world, around the NBA world are going to
be significantly lower. I think we've seen that with some
(52:51):
of the Vegas predictions and wins and all that kind
of stuff. But this is that's why we played the games,
you know, so we're looking forward to it.
Speaker 6 (52:59):
Carlisle to the Pacers joining us on the Pale Stickers hotline, Rick,
you appeared on Kellen Cooper's podcast what You Already talked About?
But in that same podcast, you mentioned that the starting
two guard position is Benedict Matherins to lose, and you
mentioned he's a natural scorer, and within that answer you
also he's that he can score and get budgets in
(53:19):
a rat game. And we're asking, I think last week,
what is a rat game? Number one and then number two?
Speaker 1 (53:25):
What do you see this?
Speaker 2 (53:27):
How do you use this opportunity for bending matheren?
Speaker 3 (53:30):
Well, first of all, if you guys are not subscribed
to basketball, she wrote on Patreon, you making a big mistake.
In fact, for this, I might even I might even
pay for both of your subscriptions. I have such great
belief that this would be as knowledgeable as you guys are.
(53:50):
This would this would increase your knowledge of the NBA
and particularly the Pacers in an exponential fashion. I mean,
what Caitlin is doing with her site is really is
really amazing, the detail, you know, the writing mentioned on
the podcast that you know she's been approached by multiple
(54:11):
NBA teams that have tried to hire her, but she
is she stayed true to her mission, which is to
uh study the Pacers at the most meticulous level. She
loves writing and she's a great writer. And you know,
every time we play a game, there's a there's a
(54:32):
story that comes out. If you subscribe to her site,
it comes out, it comes directly to your email, and
then usually there's a podcast that follows, you know. So
I'm I'm really I'm really in awe of what she's
doing there, and so I would encourage you guys to subscribe,
or anyone to subscribe to that matter anyway. Yeah, so
(54:53):
the question about Ben, Yeah, you know, Ben, it's important
have been that to be a starter. I know that.
You know, he's told me that. You guys can see that,
you know, with the way that he plays. So yeah,
it's you know why why wait, you know he's the
starter on day one. You know. The the caveat to
(55:17):
that is that he's got to continue to move his
game in the direction of being a highly functioning part
of the Indiana Pacers. And that's gonna that's going to
mean that he's got to continue to play faster and faster.
He's got to run faster, run harder. He's gotta he's
got to play off with quick decisions, He's going to
(55:37):
be guarding a lot of great players, you know, and
you think about it with Tyree's being out this year
and Nemhar the starting point. So you know, Andrew Nemar
guarded the best perimeter player almost always is either here
at Nie Smith. But you know, with with Tyres out,
(55:59):
you know, and who, it's gonna put him on different
matchups sort of organically. And now Ben is going to
be guarding guys that are better players. So this would
be a great challenge. You know, Ben told us when
when he was drafted that he wanted to be coach hard,
he wanted to be great, you know, and and and everything,
(56:19):
and and I've always took him at his word. You know,
we have high standards for him. But he's gotta he's gotta,
he's gotta, he's got to keep he's got to keep
pushing it. He's got to keep pushing it. You know,
his gifts are pretty clear. I mean, he's a great
transition player. He shoots the ball long range with ease.
(56:42):
I mean he shoots the ball from thirty five feet
you know, just just he could just pop up and
just you know, flip in a jump shot. And so
you know, those those are the big strengths to his
offensive game. And so you know the situations where he
at times gets into trouble, driving into crowd, stuff like that,
(57:04):
you know that stuff's got to go away, and we're
going to work with him hard on that. He's having
a great summer, he's busting his body, he's gonna he's
actually up in I think he's in Toronto right now
spending time with Team Canada. I don't think he's participating
in the World Championships, but he's there. And I don't
know that he's participating in the workouts, but he is
(57:26):
there watching. If he's not participating, and and he's uh,
I believe, you know, I would certainly have to believe
that he's a big part of Team Canada's future. So anyway,
all good stuff on Ben Mathern. I know that Kevin
is the president of the Ben Mathern Fan Club indeed,
and so uh, it's so it's so there, so there
(57:48):
we go. And so as president of the fan club,
you should you should be pushing all the all of
your all of your members to uh to hit him
on social media about the things that he needs to
do to con the needed work to be great.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
Move that to the top of the monthly meeting coming
up here next week.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Well, I will say this fort I subscribe to basketball.
Speaker 6 (58:07):
She wrote, actually have a shirt as well, Kaitlin Cooper
so been a long time subscriber for probably over a
year and a half or two years at this point.
And one quick follow up, what is a rat game?
Can We were debating this last week and we have
no idea how you view that or what that means.
Speaker 3 (58:23):
Yeah, I mean, no disrespect to rats, but yeah, it's
a it's a term. It's a term to me that means,
let's say you're playing a team that's a very hard playing,
physical team that does a lot of switching and does
a lot of things to junk up the game, and
(58:44):
it's just gonna be it's gonna be a game that
looks like it's a little detached and a little clunky
on a lot of on a lot of levels. I mean,
he's a guy that is in the in the flow
or non flow of a game like that. He's gonna
find ways to get the ball in the basket and
get to the free throw line, and it's a it's
(59:05):
really it's a great compliment to him. And so you know, look,
we saw it a little bit in game seven of
the of the finals. I mean it was physical, there
was a lot of switching, and he ended up being
our leading scorer in the finals. But you know, we
don't we don't want to see a bunch of games
where he's the leading scorer and we lose. You know,
(59:26):
we we we want him to keep developing the acumen
to be a great scorer, but to be but to
be a part of the team's success and to you know,
meld those ability, those individual abilities with the the style
that our that our team has developed, which so many
(59:47):
people have become smitten with.
Speaker 4 (59:50):
Uh, with the important caveat of no disrespect to rats
Rick Carlisle with us here on the Payless Slickers hotlines
a few more minutes, we appreciate the Pacers head coach
joined us here for US summer combo. This is our
first chat since really, I guess right after the playoffs,
and obviously the first big bit of news in the
offseason was Miles Turner joining the Bucks. Were you as stunned?
(01:00:12):
Does it sounded like Kevin Pritchard was when he found
out that news?
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
Yeah, I was. I was surprised. I was surprised, but
it's pretty clear what happened. You know, Milwaukee found a
way to come up with enough cap space in a
very short period of time. It's my guess that they
did all this, you know, they did it by waving
Lillard and stretching him and all that kind of stuff
(01:00:38):
created whatever it was, twenty some million extra in space.
And and I think what I think what happened was,
you know, they they talked to Miles of Agent or
Miles the end of the agent and said, look, we
have this offer. This is a number, you know, presumably
a number that you guys are trying to get to.
(01:01:01):
We need to know that if we offer this, you
guys are gonna take it and you can't shop it,
you know. And that's that's a that's a frequent you know,
a tactic of negotiation. And so pretty clearly they they
took they took the offer. It's they're right to do it.
(01:01:22):
Will certainly, miss Miles. I know that there were a
lot of there was a lot of talk about you know,
some of the some of the things that he said
as he left, But I just I just feel, look,
we're going to give Miles the benefit of the doubt
on all that stuff. The guy is the guy was
a was a pacer through and through for ten years.
(01:01:45):
He lived and breathed that he disregarded trade rumors. You
know when they when they happened, he was all about.
He was all about in the end all the time.
Sometimes things in the business aspect of Basket Paul become
super dynamic and nuclear and they happen on a you know,
(01:02:07):
on they turn on a dime. But you know, everything
that Kevin Pritchard said is absolutely true. This this this
franchise was was ready to go as far to the
tax as we needed to keep him. But you know,
things can change quickly. They did. He's moved on. It's
(01:02:30):
a division rival, so there's always gonna be plenty to
talk about there. But Kevin and Chad were able to
acquire Jay Huff, who's certainly not the experienced level mouse turner,
is not the exact same kind of player, but he
can make trees, and he can protect and protect the rim,
and he can do some other things that are strengths
(01:02:52):
of his and so we feel like he's a piece
that can that can work for us. We don't know
exactly who's going to start at five. But I've had
seasons where I've had three centers and pretty much consistently
played three centers every game. It was it was two
thousand and thirteen fourteen with the Dallas Mavericks. Sam Dallen
(01:03:15):
Bear was our starter, Dwan Blair and Brandon Wright played
back up, and there were way more games many There
were way more games than there weren't where all three
of those guys played. And so, you know, maybe the
center position is more of a Swiss army knife type thing.
(01:03:36):
We'll have to see, but we have we have Huff,
we have Isaiah Jackson, we have Wiseman. Tony Bradley's going
to be in camp. So there's four guys that are
going to be slugging it out for the you know,
presumably three center spots. So as we get into it,
we'll see what's what. But you know, nothing but love
from from my perspective. From on Miles Turner. I had
(01:03:59):
a really nice, nice conversation with him after, you know,
after he made the decision to leave, and what a
lovable guy. So we'll miss him.
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
Last one, coach, and again, thank you for the time.
Unfortunately we didn't get to see him late in that
playoff run due to injury, but certainly minutes now with
that second unit, with Benedict going to the starting lineup
are there for a guy like Jarris Walker. How is
he doing health wise and where do you want to
see growth for him entering I believe his third season.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
Yeah, his health is good right now. You know that
that was a serious injury that he suffered in Game six,
And I think it's important to note that Jared's had
a very productive year. He played I think over fifteen
and a half minutes a game. You know, he played
(01:04:55):
very effectively during certain stretches of the playoffs. He was
a big factor and Game four at Milwaukee, where you
know we were able to get ourselves in a position
to steal a road game that was that was a
big deal. And you know, he played well throughout the year.
And so the big things for him are going to
(01:05:16):
be conditioning, motor, toughness, rebounding defense, and in a real
high degree of understanding of the importance of possession of
the ball. And that's not just him, that's everybody. I
think with what we're going into this year, you know
(01:05:37):
we're going to be without a guy in Tyreese, who's
historically great with his ability to do amazing things on
the basketball floor, creating pace, scoring, getting the ball to
the rim, hitting floaters, throwing it ahead to teammates, getting assists,
(01:06:00):
and with the usage rate that he has, his ability
to have security with the ball and not turn the
ball over is like you know, has been has been historic,
and so our team is going to have to really
develop an even greater understanding and appreciation of the importance
(01:06:21):
of possession. But in a year like this that we
have coming up, Jarrius is a very important guy because
he can play multiple positions really including point guard. I mean,
you know, he handles the ball that well, but I
want I want to see him be able to get
a rebound at one end and put on the burners
(01:06:43):
and go coast to coast with speed and attack the
rim at the other I think he has the ability
to do that. So I know he's working on those
those that those things along with a lot of other things.
But it took him a good two months before he
was back on the court going and so uh it's
(01:07:03):
gonna be an active end of the summer for him.
But you know, he's people should be excited. People should
be excited about Johnny Furfey after watching him in the
Summer League. I think furfy is another guy that you know,
he's he's a lot like Ben Sheppard. He's a he's
a he's a seamless fit into our our system. He runs,
(01:07:26):
he rebounds, he passes it, he moves it. He's a
great cutter. He doesn't need the ball to be effective,
you know. And he's, uh, he's a lunch pale guy. Man.
He's he's going to work so and some of the
stuff that that he did in the Summer League, you know,
some of the dunks. You guys saw those pretty pretty
pretty pretty awesome stuff. And so he's become a fan favorite.
(01:07:48):
And then we've got the two rookies. You know, We've
got Peter and and Jones. We like those guys a lot.
Both of them improved as the Summer League went on.
So a lot of opportunity, you know, a lot of
excitement from my perspective. We'll see what the schedule shows tomorrow.
The good news is on opening night, we at least
(01:08:10):
we get Oklahoma City and a back to back. You know,
they're getting they're getting their rings the night before and
so we'll have to try to figure out a way
to take advantage.
Speaker 5 (01:08:17):
Of that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
Last last one. And again we appreciate the time. What's
left about a month ish to go in the off
seasons or anything you're looking forward to away from the
floor before training camp starts up. I assume late September.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Well, Abby Carlisle arrives tonight down here where we are,
and she spent the summer taking some summer classes in
New York City at NYU, and so she'll be down
here for a week or so, and then we'll drive
her down to uh I should say, up to Charlottesville
and we'll spend some time there and then eventually meander
(01:08:55):
back to Indianapolis, where we're really looking forward to to
getting back and getting going. But you know, it's it's
been it's been quite a year. If you go back
a full year to you know where we are now.
So you know, we're mid August, you think about mid
August twenty twenty four, and you know the way everybody
(01:09:19):
looked at last season, you know, coming off the conference finals,
there was anticipation, and then you know, we got into
the season and then it was we were ten and
fifteen and we were banged up, and you know, it
was didn't seem to be a whole lot of good
stuff happening. And then you know, we started to get healthy,
and you know, Nemar came back, and you know, we
(01:09:44):
we went from there. We won three games on the
on the road to to get the five hundred at Christmas,
pretty much similar thing we did in the previous year,
and then a lot of great things happened. So this
year is is another mystery at this point, but we're
looking forward to putting the pieces together.
Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
Well, we got this text during the Conbos said, please
tell Rick this run inspired me and my group of
friends to get back in the gym and start hooping again.
So the inspiration is impacted the local men's leagues here
in the great state of Indiana. Coach enjoyed the time
with Abby Safe Travels back up here a little bit
later in September, and I greatly appreciate the time.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
Thank you, cheers, guys. Stick here.
Speaker 4 (01:10:26):
Rick Carlisle right there on the paylesslickuers hotline, no disrespect
to rats, and plenty of other takeaways we've got from
that combo. We'll do it on the other side. It
is the Fan Morning.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Hope your Wednesday's going well. Thanks for joining us here
in the Fan Morning Show. Hope you enjoyed the conversation
the guys had with Rick Kyler Carlisle just a moment ago,
the head coach of the Indiana Pacers, Kevin, Your biggest
takeaway from that nearly thirty minute conversation with the very
relaxed summertime Rick Carlisle.
Speaker 4 (01:10:53):
Mark, how many times did I look at you during
the interview and say, clip that clip that quite a
bit clip that? Uh yeah, I thought, really floor Obviously
there are some stuff that will continue to get to
here over the next month, but also off the floor,
So really appreciate Rick's time there. And yeah, it'll be
a different season. I mean, that's probably the simplest way
to put it. But at the same time, I enjoyed
(01:11:14):
Rick's willingness to at least look back a little bit still, because,
like I said to him, I was talking with someone yesterday, like,
it's not just you got into the brink of it.
It was truly a movie. I mean that run, I mean,
the run naturally speaks for itself, but on top of
it it might have been just a cherry. It was
an unbelievable historic you know where were you win this game?
That game that shot this moment, all of it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
So thank you to Rick for the time, James Boyd
your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (01:11:42):
Speaking of the movie part that Kevin just mentioned, I
do want remind people that we will have that Netflix documentary.
I believe it's starting five the Tyres Halliburton was in
so we should get some sort of inside look at
that incredible run. So excited to watch that eventually later
on this year. And obviously always good to hear from Rick.
And I thought his answers about Benedict Matherin and Jarris Walker,
(01:12:04):
in particular their roles, how they could increase what he
wants to see from them, and naming Kevin the president
of the Benedict Matheren Fan Club was also very noworthy.
Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
I did hear that again, No disrespect the rats, Yeah,
really important caveat that Rick through in that that's hilarious.
I think all fellow Carmelites will appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Last night at the Fieldhouse, it was all about the
fever in the WNBA. But it was not a happy
ending there either, as a final score of eighty one
eighty goes in favor of the Dallas Wings, who twice
had double digit leads erased seemingly by the Fever. But
the Fever just kept turning it over at key times
and just couldn't quite finish it off.
Speaker 6 (01:12:44):
Yeah, tough loss for him, one point loss. You would
love to see that lap possession go a different way,
perhaps call time out sooner. But I don't hate decision
personally myself. I understand why Stephanie White wanted to go
with like the live action, but perhaps he need to
call that time out a little bit sooner. And then again,
on top of that, DLVIA chance to bounce back Friday
against the Mystics.
Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
The Mystics are coming to town, and I will tell
you that the Fever are now a two full games
behind Phoenix for the fourth spot in the playoff race,
that of course would give them home court in the
first round. They are two and a half games ahead
of LA who was the last team out at this
point in time. And again they are eighteen and fifteen,
(01:13:25):
but they've lost three of the last four. We can
tell you that the Indianapolis Colts will be back in
action for a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers
tomorrow but Kevin Bowen Packers will be without their quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:13:37):
Yeah, Jordan Love procedure. I believe yesterday left thumb. It
is non throwing, but he got hurt late in their
preseason opener. He tried to practice the other day and
just said whatever. It felt a little awkward to the
point where I felt like they needed to get something
done here and should be ready to go for the
start of the regular season. So, you know, obviously a
(01:13:58):
bumber for the Packers, a bummer for the Colts, and
trying to evaluate your defense against you know, one of
I think the better, certainly one of the better quarterbacks
in the NFC, and Malik Willis time who didn't need
to throw them any passes last time these two teams
met back in Week two. So it sounds like Willis
has had a pretty rough camp and in general Green
Bay's a little banged up, so, you know, maybe not
quite the Bromter you were hoping for, but still I
(01:14:20):
think anytime it's a different color jersey that involves some
step up in competition.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
Outside of the obvious quarterback battle. What's the one thing
you're focused on tomorrow in those joint practices.
Speaker 6 (01:14:30):
James probably health, number one, who's available? And Ali Pierce
wasn't out there the last couple of days. And I
know Nick Cross wasn't out there the last couple of
days as well. So who's going to be back in
practice potentially? And also, like I said, I want to
see what that linebacker group looks like when it comes
to some of the run fits, whether it's in their
preseason game on Saturday or obviously before that the joint
(01:14:50):
practice tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
All Right, a couple of NFL notes to pass along.
This one's a tough one. Vikings receiver returner former produced
are Run Moore suffered a season ending left knee injury
and Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, the team confirmed
last night after reviewing his MRI tests. And James, that's
the second year in a row of no games because
(01:15:13):
of injury for ron Dell Moore. You just I love
that kid. I love watching him. I love his dynamic
and you know, he's just so dynamic. I love watching
him play. It's just tough to hear. Tough, tough news.
Speaker 6 (01:15:23):
Yeah, I mean the game is crewe cruel sometimes and
I do think, and I've talked about this, some players
you think about what the game can give you. And
sometimes it's fortunate, it's fame, it's an opportunity to change
your family's life. But other times it's the injuries and
it's the brutality of the sport. So prayers up for
him and obviously hoping that he can, you know, mentally
and physically recover pretty quickly.
Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
I'll show up in Buffalo after a hold in the Bills,
James Cook gets a four year, forty eight million dollar deal,
so that hold in is over and the Bills get
their star running back back. Major League Baseballs up.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
With Hendrickson, by the way, with the Bengals, has anything
with that. No, he showed up because he knows he
has no choice. Whatt you show up.
Speaker 6 (01:16:05):
They're not gonna pay him. I don't think they're cheap.
I mean, the Bengals are known for being a very
cheap franchise.
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
Vakes Paul Cincinnati Reid's beat the Phillies bus score of
six to one. Last night, the Cardinals were shut out
by the Rockies. White Sox beat the Tigers nine to six.
But eleven wins in a row for the Milwaukee Brewers
and that's the second time this year mark they've had
eleven wins in a row. That last time that happened
was nineteen thirty five with the Cubs. It's been a minute,
(01:16:34):
the Golden years. And they beat up on Paul Skeens
last night too.
Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
Paul Skins. I saw, they said against the Brewers this year,
Paul Skins is an era of almost six and against
every other team it's like one point seven.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
Like, of course, of course it's the Brewers.
Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
So Livy Dunn hates Milwaukee just like we hate Milwaukee,
right about you? Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Is that where the similarity stopped between.
Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
Probably it was fourteen nothing. The Brewers ended up getting
your both TEMs. The India somewhere they are Indianapolis. Indians
beat these Scranton Wilkesbury reil Riders six to five last night.
They will play in tonight on the road in Scranton
Wilkesbury at six thirty five. Anything else she goes wing
to throw in before we move along.
Speaker 6 (01:17:11):
Here we have someone in the text line saying that
they would like for whenever Rick Carlile joins the show,
for many Men to be played like it is during
his intro at Gambridge shield House.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
So if we can make that happen.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
You know what it wasn't it was?
Speaker 6 (01:17:27):
Actually it was Halliburtons at first, and then though what
the Halle song came out?
Speaker 2 (01:17:33):
So I think they just pushed it back in the queue.
So now you got I don't think he really chose it,
but he certainly embraces it.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
I think that he hears it.
Speaker 6 (01:17:42):
And you know, I think of the Rick Carlisle meme
when you got the shades on, He's throwing up his hands.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
That's cool Rick right there.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
Honestly I have figure of the Ron our tests. You know,
when Ron that's even better hands than the disc man.
And and Rick's got the headphones on, which we have
asked him about prior before.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
So all right, coming up at a moment, we'll talk
more about the Indianapolis Cults back on the field for
joint practice with the Packers tomorrow and then another preseason
game on Saturday. What do we need to see from
those two quarterbacks and what do we need to see
from the receiving corps as well. We'll talk about it
next as we continue at ninety three five and one
on seven five of the Fan he Dancing, James Boyd
hanging up with us this morning on a Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
I love this.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Sometimes you just can't stay in that seat that you
gotta get up. I noticed done your piece about the
Ady Mitchell yesterday. You were documenting all of the songs
that he was grooving to.
Speaker 4 (01:18:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:18:29):
I was just, you know, I was vibing there for
a second, you know, me living my suburban life singing
many men by fifty cent. It's probably not the most
accurate representation of how I grew up, but in that moment,
you know, I feel like ri Carla a little bit,
you know, And so I cannot repeat a lot of
the things that we're setting a song on air, but
certainly a banger. And yes to your point, Jeff, I
did kind of stalk Ady Mitchell through the binoculars at
(01:18:51):
practice on Tuesday, and I thought it was honestly pretty
uh I'm sorry, on Monday, and I thought it was
actually pretty eventful and kind of insightful for people who
aren't really that locked in. And it's hard to do
for one player, but I think you got a good
glimpse of who he is, who's trying to become and
why he uh, why they think he has so much
talent and upside.
Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
Because I make sure I have the clean version of
those songs.
Speaker 6 (01:19:14):
Oh yes, yes, which is basically just a bunch of
blanks because he doesn't get tore cleaner than that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
Kevin No.
Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
I thought that was well done piece, Jams. I wanted
to play the Reggie Wayne audio we heard over the
weekend two uh from Adie Mitchell. You know, Reggie I
think has always been largely a pretty public backer of
eights and that I don't think is necessarily like Reggie's
total m O. I think he's you know, not afraid to,
you know, speak to improvements that are necessary here. And uh,
(01:19:42):
I thought maybe the end of this quote kind of
summarized you know again, they're overall pretty happy with Adie Mitchell,
but they just want to make sure you keep one
thing in line.
Speaker 7 (01:19:52):
Was pointing up right. I think it's hitting right on time.
We just got to make sure he's just consistent and
do everything that's everything that we're supposed to do, and
just try out the freestyle as much.
Speaker 4 (01:20:08):
He know that the freestyle is arguably the greatest gift
of ad Mitchell, and it probably is also the greatest
curse too oft times. Is there too much freestyle? And
are you not in the right spot, and again Saturday,
I will continue to say in a game setting, that's
what I want to see. You know, if you look
at last Thursday night, guys six targets to ad Mitchell,
(01:20:31):
two catches. Again, I don't think that ratio is a
true indicator of ad Mitchell screwing up or not in
the right spot. But that was kind of the trend
we saw last year, just inefficient targets to him. You know,
you throw it to him and more often than not
it'd be incomplete. He had one of the worst catch
rates in the entire league, and so that's where I
(01:20:52):
think there's so much you like. But again, can you
keep the freestyle and just reined in? It's probably a
fine balance, honestly. You know, there was one moment there
where I think Daniel Jones thought Adie Mitchell would be
here and he wasn't against Baltimore. Just that stuff. Can
you continue to kind of clean that up.
Speaker 1 (01:21:07):
And catch the football, just keep hanging on to it,
which he's been better at in camp.
Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
Right, Yes, I think he has been.
Speaker 6 (01:21:13):
I mean he started off pretty bumpy, and I think
he's responded well to that. Another question becomes, can you
do it when a guy's going to hit you in
the ribcage or in the knee or something like that,
Because there have been moments last year, and not a
whole lot, but a few times where I think you
could honestly say, I'm not sure he wanted to get hit,
(01:21:33):
Not that you you know, want to get hit hard
in football, but alligator M. Yeah, you do sign up
for it, though, and so can't he do that? And
I think that's the question that we can't get answered
until the real games happened.
Speaker 3 (01:21:44):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:21:44):
The other thing I took from that article too, I
love the references to Reggie Wayne and what a what
a detail oriented task masker and coach he's become, or
a I think ad and I'm paraphrasing here described him
as look, he's on you, but it's positive, right, kind
of what you got from that. But I liked getting
a view of Reggie Wayne as a coach.
Speaker 6 (01:22:05):
I think a lot of it is it's just tough love,
but it's real love, and so you know, as long
as you're honest. I don't know if any player can
really be mad at a coach if they're honest with
them and they're staying on him to try to get better,
and if there's anybody to listen to, obviously Reggie Wayne
is the guy who listened to. He's probably a future
Hall of Famer and obviously a Colt's legend. And as
(01:22:25):
much as Reggie talks about he wants to be on
the beach and he doesn't like talking to us in
the media. That dude loves coaching, and you see it
in his actions because again, if it's not Ady Mitchell
going up to him, it's Reggie Wayne going up to
Adie Mitchell and others and always constantly going over the minute,
little little details of how to be a great receiver.
Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
James, I forget which undrafted free agent it was. The
other day you and I were in the same vicinity
and caught Reggie Wayne.
Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Saying, oh, I do know this.
Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
It was Aju Aju.
Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
That guy tries to make a one handed stab at it.
And again, correct me if I'm wrong, James. But Reggie's
direct quote was you ain't good enough to catch the
ball with one hand.
Speaker 6 (01:23:06):
Well, I heard it as I wrote it down on
my phone, and he said two hands, because you ain't
that good.
Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
And I was like dying. But if you're Redua and
you can say that right, yes, and again is it
tough love?
Speaker 1 (01:23:19):
Yes? Is it real love?
Speaker 3 (01:23:20):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
And what did the guy?
Speaker 6 (01:23:22):
What is the guy gonna say? What can you say?
And honestly, you're practicing bad habits. You know, you shouldn't
practice one handed catches. You're not gonna go up a
game like that. I mean, when we see Tyler Warren
and I am I do want I should probably go
around the locker room and ask this question to why receivers,
like how often do you practice the one handed catches,
the off platform catches or is that like a natural
(01:23:42):
instinct that you kind of build on, because I can't
imagine practicing one handed catches with nobody hitting you is
a good way to go about your business. I mean, yeah, look,
it looks cool warm ups, but you're not gonna catch
it with one hand that somebody decks you. So you
used too, Yeah, that's.
Speaker 1 (01:23:59):
Funny when you seek Tyler Warren some of the catches
that he's made in camp, that's a that's just a
product of his focus and being in the moment and
going wherever that ball takes him and just making sure
he secures it. I think it's just instinct, right, that
just happens. Yeah, so that's something to keep an eye on.
We're going to talk to Stephen Holder about all this stuff.
He covers the team as well at ESPN. He's coming
(01:24:21):
up in just a moment here as we get ready
for one more joint practice for the Colts. They'll be
going up against the Green Bay Packers tomorrow. You may
be closing in on eighteen and a half for the
over under today.
Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Mitchell ling him by full name, and that's what's going
to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
We'll talk about all those things coming up in a moment.
You can get back at us on the fan text
line as well. Two three nine ten seventy. You can
also call us up a little bit later on in
the show after Stephen is on a two three nine
ten seventy, or get to us on the chat room
there on the YouTube feed, So all kinds of ways
to get a hold of us and let your voice
be heard. We'll talk about it all as we continue
next on ninety three to five and one good morning,
(01:24:59):
walk up to your hump Here along with James Boyd
and Kevin Bohen, Mark Kich, and I'm Jeff Rickard. We're
talking about the Indianapolis Colts. I'll have joint practices with
the Packers tomorrow and then Saturday afternoon at a pre
season game and joining us now. Someone who is on
the opposite end of that mark would be our guy,
Stephen Holder from ESPN, who covers the Colts as well,
and he joins us on the pay Leslikers hot line.
(01:25:21):
Good morning, Steven Holder, You've almost made it through training camp.
We're almost there.
Speaker 5 (01:25:28):
Oh my god, where do I win?
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Freedom? Freedom?
Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
A quarterback battle between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
That's what you want, right, And.
Speaker 5 (01:25:39):
It's not even over. We don't even get that. We
don't even get the winner, the outcome, right, So anyway,
hopefully we get it too.
Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
Will it be over if we talk to you next Wednesday?
Speaker 5 (01:25:53):
I want to say yes, I think it should be over,
But I'm not so sure. They have done a great
job of not anything about how they feel about this.
I think that's commendable because it definitely suggests there's no
favoritism or that this isn't leaning one way or another
(01:26:15):
in someone's head. You know, they've definitely been more backwards
to not do that. That's the coaching staff that is
so I give them credit for that, but I think
they have to have some idea. I mean, they practice
every day, They sit around for hours and meet about
how their team's performing, and go over the tape of
practice every single day. You have to have some sense
(01:26:38):
at this point of which way this is going if
you're the coaching staff, and I think they do. I
don't think they'll I don't know that they will tell
us by this time next week, but I think they know.
They must know they have enough information.
Speaker 4 (01:26:50):
But by this point I think, Okay, So when you
say they should be over phrase that that is not
necessarily because you think one has an overwhelming lead. It's
more because August twentieth, quarterback competitions are largely unhealthy around
the NFL.
Speaker 5 (01:27:05):
Yeah, exactly right. Not not it should be over like, uh,
it's obvious. It's not obvious, I think. In fact, I mean,
I think they're very different quarterbacks and they've had very
different camps. So Daniel Jones is kind of who we
thought he was, which is a guy who's going to
be more efficient than Anthony Richardson but certainly less explosive.
(01:27:27):
And and maybe that's okay, right, I mean, that may
be what they want. They may want the steadiness Anthony
Richardson Less. I think less up and down for sure.
It's been his best training camp, and I don't think
it's close. However, Look, he's still who's who he is, right,
He's not gonna be He's never gonna be some seventy
percent passer. That's just not in the cards for him.
(01:27:49):
You know, you wouldn't say right now, right, So he's
still gonna be that guy, but he's definitely gonna give
you the explosiveness. I will say what I've said on
every show that I had this epiphany the other day.
Maybe this is obvious to people, but I'm just gonna
say it again. I think they get to the same
place no matter who they play. I think this boils
down to the rest of the team. And what I
(01:28:10):
mean by that is, I think the outcome for both
guys is gonna be largely the same. They'll just get
there in different ways. And I'll leave you with this.
Go back and look at their QBR rating from last year,
almost identical. It's very telling, That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (01:28:27):
So we've heard it here first on one O seventy
five of the Fan that Stephen Holder is lobbying for
Riley Leonard to start at quarterback, for the Colts to
see something different because obviously the first two quarterbacks are
just the saying you know, versil, that's the root of
Jason Bean No, I forgot. Yes, Jason Bain and Ry
Lennard talk here on this Wednesday morning. But on a
serious note, Steven, when you look at these skill pusion players,
(01:28:51):
and we've seen Ady Mitchell have some moments throughout this camp,
and you hear Reggie wayans to the arrows pointing up.
Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
What is the next step for you? Is it just
seeing it on game day? Is it a physicality?
Speaker 5 (01:29:03):
Like?
Speaker 6 (01:29:03):
What is it about Ady Mitchell that you need to
be convinced a little bit more about? And I would
say all of us to a degree need to be
convinced about.
Speaker 5 (01:29:11):
Yeah, I mean he has to do it on Sunday.
There's no question about that. He has been notorious for
not finishing plays. And whether that's because he is reluctant
when it comes to the engaging in the contact or
whether you know, whether that's a part of it or
whether it's an execution thing. I think there's been some
(01:29:33):
of both. I can't read his mind on the contact.
But but if you look at it when there's when
when catches are contested, he's not as aggressive, There's no
question about that. And then there's really just the overall
lack of concentration that we saw from him last year.
I think back to the green Bay game. The green
Bay game and Week two showed the entire gamut of
(01:29:57):
Ady Mitchell's problems last year, which was a drop ball
where he just turns and turns to run, he's wide open,
turns to run before he catches the ball, So that's
a lack of concentration. Then he has another one where
he doesn't really attack the football, the air up on it,
you know, And those are the things that you can't do.
(01:30:20):
He has too much talent, but that talent will never
be realized if he doesn't do all of the little things.
It's in him. He can do it. But I think
there's some little things are going to be what determines
really the trajectory of his career. But man, the talent
is they're salivating over it right now. Over there.
Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
I'll ask you the same question I asked Kevin and
James a little while ago. Steven, what are you most
interested in seeing other than the obvious quarterback battle this
weekend against the Packers.
Speaker 5 (01:30:52):
Well, I would say, I want to see how this
secondary starts to come together. I mean, it's not coming
together this weekend because the personel isn't there, but you know,
the attrition has has started to kick in there and
they're gonna have to find some depths there. So guys
that maybe we didn't plan on talking about, they're now
(01:31:12):
gonna have to prove something and show something. I don't
know who's gonna be available come week one, but as
of right now, you know, I think, you know, we'll
see if Kenny Moore, we'll see what his status is.
I don't think it's a long term thing, but but
he's down right now. And then you've got two other
corners Juju Brins and and Jalen Johnson and Jayleen jonescuse me,
(01:31:33):
and I just wonder where's the depth gonna come from,
especially now that you know they've lost Justin Wally for
the season. So that is the position that notoriously you
have to tap into your depth and then and if
the depth doesn't step up, it can literally lose you games.
So they got to step up there and figure out
(01:31:53):
what their pecking order is.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
I think Steven Hilder's work over on ESPN ESPN dot
com he's with to see on the Payless Slickers hotline. Steven,
it feels like on the areas of improvement lists, the
Colts feel like they are improving defensively, and I think
they'd also say they've improved at the pass catcher spot.
Which one would you be more willing to bet on
(01:32:15):
playing out in that manner? You more bullish on the
pass catchers taking a step forward or the defense taking
a step forward.
Speaker 5 (01:32:25):
I mean, I would say I liked the pass catchers
last year, so don't I don't see the steps there
being as big and so this is not a knock
on those guys. It's more I think the defense just
had more room to grow and more need, frankly, to
grow and to improve that defense we saw last year.
(01:32:46):
I don't think we spent enough time talking about just
how underwhelming it was. And you know, we can talk
about some accompanying factors like the offense not staying on
the field with the factor, those kinds of things, but
you know, personnel, the fact that but but that's all
part of it. The bottom line is they didn't get
(01:33:06):
it done, and it was it was a much bigger
part of their failure last year than I think we
we want to, uh, you know admit perhaps so Anyway,
I think that was reflected by the way they handled
the off season. You know, he saw free agency big
splashes on defense and the draft. Certainly not the first pick,
(01:33:28):
but you saw it in the following rounds, right, I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:33:31):
With J T. T.
Speaker 5 (01:33:32):
Twoey Malou I said that terribly who it's pretty good
at that? Is that?
Speaker 1 (01:33:41):
Right?
Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
Yeah? Anyway, I know how to say it. I just
I just can't do it. And and with other people
listening and so and and the Wally pick was obviously,
uh a suggestion that, look, they had to get better
in the secondary as well, like free agency. So they
admitted that, and that's why they pore the resources into
the defense. They had to get better, and they know
(01:34:05):
they had to get better. And I actually do think
that defense will have a lot to say about what
their results are this year. If that defense is actually
significantly better. The quarterback position matters a little bit less.
I'm not saying it doesn't matter. It definitely matters, but
they can make it matter a little less. So I'm
(01:34:25):
interested to see just how lets that defense can produce.
And I think the pass rush has to come through,
absolutely has to come through.
Speaker 1 (01:34:34):
Steven Hallder, we appreciate you. We'll let you get back
to practicing that name, and we'll talk to you again soon.
Speaker 5 (01:34:40):
All right, talk to you soon. Guys.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
There you go, Savage over there, Mark Decton. Even with
the guys, Savage, you're.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
Not the only one that gets buzzed.
Speaker 1 (01:34:52):
Text a funny line now that should be you should
save that clip from yourself right there.
Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
I will.
Speaker 2 (01:34:58):
I don't discriminate.
Speaker 1 (01:35:00):
Anything you heard from Steven. That that James you think
to yourself. I'd like to dive into that a little
bit deeper.
Speaker 6 (01:35:10):
I think the one thing that I probably didn't get
to with him is like, does he view this quarterback
head coach GM as all one package of deal. I
know we've talked a lot about, you know, quarterback competition,
who's gonna win it, who's going to start all that?
But I think ultimately the big picture question is is
all of this tie together?
Speaker 3 (01:35:30):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:35:31):
Do we get an answer from carl Ers Gordon and
the old TV booth coming up Saturday afternoon, that'll be
an interesting coming.
Speaker 6 (01:35:36):
But are you allowed to ask that question if you're
working for the team or and that is a that
is a fair point. We'll see Kevin Bowen in the
background on the broadcast like, hey, Carly, well you know
the commercial break, let me get one.
Speaker 1 (01:35:48):
Feels like holding up a cardboard signing with the question.
Speaker 4 (01:35:50):
He i greg Gregshaw voice, because lord knows I cannot
impersonate the beautiful vocal cords that Greg Greagshaw possesses. But yeah,
I mean I don't know her father at times would
anwer quest and then next thing, you know, he's telling
you something that maybe you didn't think you'd tell you.
I don't know if Carly is going to be in
that same boat. I would venture to guess no. But yeah, James,
I think it's a great question. And again I tried
(01:36:11):
to ask that back in the opening press conference, and
I think she kind of missed. She thought I was
asking more of I.
Speaker 2 (01:36:17):
Thought she's just to keep in timold you like I
did this out of here, mister Bowen.
Speaker 4 (01:36:21):
She turned it into he used to work for me?
Do they get along?
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
She then referenced I don't think she referenced it directly,
but She indirectly referenced Chuck mcgonnon and Ryan grickson not
getting along. When I say tied at the hip, you
know I'm more made up from the hired GUYE nine
years ago in ballad versus three years ago and stich
In are those two.
Speaker 2 (01:36:43):
I'm learning.
Speaker 6 (01:36:44):
I'm like, if we get the opportunity to talk to
her again, I'll have to write down the questions and okay,
I need to say it and phrase it exactly like this.
Speaker 4 (01:36:51):
Yeah, roster cuts a week from Tuesday. James, let me
throw a couple at you. Wide out and tight end.
I have no debate on none. I don't think the
Jilani Woods thing is a debate. You're not keeping five
tight ends. Will Mallory's your fourth, Okay. I think wide
receivers pretty obvious too, and keep him. Uh six Michael
(01:37:12):
Pittman Jr, Alec Pierce Ady, Mitchell, Josh Downs, those are
four obvious. And then Ashton Doolan Anthony Gould, Uh it
makes sense impact a lot on special teams. And then
I also think have been nice white out. So those
two I don't debate any linebacker. I've got no freaking
idea and corner I have no freaking idea. I have
no idea.
Speaker 1 (01:37:32):
What's your best guess at how many linebackers they keep?
Speaker 2 (01:37:35):
James, I don't know. Maybe I don't know four five.
Speaker 4 (01:37:40):
Wins, five to six is generally the number, but I
wonder if it's less than five. Doesn't love linebacker, So
I would still think five, because like Chaguona Loubi, for example,
number fifty, we've used to see him, you know, somewhat
subbing in at linebacker in years past, but he's been
a great special teamer. Well, James, right now, if I
(01:38:02):
made a depth chart at linebacker, I gotta go pretty
far down the list before I get to a Loubie.
He hasn't been involved in the camrac Groans, Joe, Bachi's,
Austin and Jake like those sorts of names. So but
does he still have the special teams role?
Speaker 7 (01:38:17):
So?
Speaker 4 (01:38:17):
I yea, Honestly, I don't think four is that crazy
of a thought. I'm probably a little bit off on that,
just because special teams play usually involves a good amount
of linebackers. But yeah, I would say five. And then again, corner,
I mean outside of you know, the question at corner
is how many injured guys are you carrying on your roster?
Speaker 3 (01:38:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:38:38):
Because James, what are the rules if you go on
injured reserve to start the season? Are you out for
four weeks or six?
Speaker 1 (01:38:44):
I think it's four? Isn't it four and then you
can come back?
Speaker 4 (01:38:47):
Or is a six? I always I always forget four.
I are, Yeah, it's four. So who's is anyone in
that realm? I have thought about this, like it's Kenny
Moore gonna miss ray season time ers?
Speaker 3 (01:39:00):
He good?
Speaker 4 (01:39:01):
Is Jalen Jones going to miss regular season tim ors?
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
He good?
Speaker 4 (01:39:04):
Is Juju Bred? Like those three? What's the window? Are
they back before September? Is it going to be a
week or two into September? Or is it gonna be
post four weeks? Because again, if you go on IR
right now, you're done for the.
Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
Year, right.
Speaker 6 (01:39:18):
I think they have like the two you can designate
to come back right right right? But even then, like
it's still not a great sign if you go on IR.
Speaker 4 (01:39:24):
Those are some roster cut questions I have.
Speaker 1 (01:39:27):
Yeah, a couple of people checking in on thoughts for
this week's joint practice. In the in the preseason game,
someone says, if green Bay is banged up, if our
offense or defense struggles, that's even more of an indictment
on this team, right right.
Speaker 6 (01:39:41):
I would think, So, I mean you got to show
something to gainst somebody else for a change. And so
tomorrow will being very interesting because of like I said,
they don't have their top quarterback. So if Malik Willas
comes out and has and they're down for their top one, yeah,
if he comes out and burns up the entire defense
and I get that the Cults are banged up.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
Two, I'm still gonna have some questions about what's going on.
Speaker 1 (01:40:02):
Derek also says, give Mark a raising more pt.
Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
O, Derek, Brother, sign me up?
Speaker 1 (01:40:09):
Is that your is that Mark's burrow?
Speaker 4 (01:40:11):
Was gonna say, hold on now, is that brother?
Speaker 6 (01:40:15):
Vacation day once a week, probably for about eight or
nine straight weeks over a week off after that.
Speaker 2 (01:40:21):
Yeah, p t O. Certainly I will happily accept any
and all. But were you joining Jeff and France or
was that a little bit if I can fit in
the suitcase. Yeah, I was going to wait a second.
We can't let Jeff criticize you lived in the middle
of training camp.
Speaker 1 (01:40:39):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, what else am
I going to take a break.
Speaker 6 (01:40:44):
I don't know during the course during training camp. You
guys here for training, Yeah see you got you got
out there sweating it up.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
But he missed you dearly. He wanted you there like
the show was you left us exactly what it was.
I alone real quickly when we're doing some of the texts, Kevin,
there's one for you. Is the quarterback the number one
concern for the fighting Irish football this year? Ridger nineteen
seventy one, we talked under Dame.
Speaker 3 (01:41:12):
Well we.
Speaker 1 (01:41:15):
Because you're wearing the Notre Dame T shirts today, wake
up to the coach.
Speaker 4 (01:41:19):
Indeed, let me reposition myself here mark two weeks from Sunday,
right trip to face the fighting Stephen Holders down there,
I thank you. I think the quarterback is a concern.
Past catchers are they great or are they just mm uh?
And then o line depth. I love their starting five,
maybe even six seven, but last year they got really
(01:41:40):
really banged up, and I think it caught up to
them against Ohio State. Man last year was so fun
and I was almost going to throw that into Rick Carlisle,
Like the Notre Dame run last year has me being
a loser at night. It has me youtubing the highlights
from that run. You think Rick carl oh ever does
(01:42:01):
that with the Pacers, Like aren't there Pacer fans out
there that have done that? Have you not gone back
and watched and watched some of the game winners at
the very end, in the last few minutes of some
of those games, Like that's.
Speaker 1 (01:42:09):
What I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (01:42:10):
It was the cherry on top, Like getting to the
national title game. As a Notre Dame football fan that's
thirty five years old, I should just be happy about it.
Speaker 1 (01:42:16):
And you saw that in person?
Speaker 4 (01:42:17):
Well yes, but I mean like Ohio, you know, Georgia
and Penn State in particularly, like I should just be
happy that they got there. But the drama against Penn
State picking off Drew Aller, the pseudo game winning field
goal by mitched Year, you know, the Georgia game, the
big kicker turned for a touchdown, a huge trip sacking
in the first half, like those moments, the Indiana game,
the Jeremiah Love run of ninety eight yards, like all
(01:42:40):
of that. You sent me the Penn State run by
Jeremiah Love a couple of weeks ago, Jeff, and I
was like, it is Jeff, I see a Notre Dame
fan here or did he just like to play?
Speaker 1 (01:42:47):
I think you just like I love the those kinds
of plays. I will watch over and over and over.
Speaker 4 (01:42:51):
Yeah, for the place, But I can't wait. Have I
told you I love Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (01:42:55):
Football every once in a while.
Speaker 4 (01:42:56):
Have you brought this up kick by water name basketball?
Speaker 1 (01:42:59):
Have you brought this up to be an adults trying
to keep writings here?
Speaker 4 (01:43:04):
I can't wait to watch Michael Shrewsbury. We're this guy, Carson,
check out this due. This dude is a Greek god
and he grabs every rebound out there.
Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
We're back in pandemic sports at radio for talking Notre
Dame basket.
Speaker 1 (01:43:21):
I'm just curious, what's it going to be like the
Michael let's go Marcus.
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
I love me some Marcus Burke. I did se him
paying person.
Speaker 4 (01:43:34):
Game was electrics.
Speaker 1 (01:43:36):
Yeah, I'm curious to see what James is gonna be
like during that Indiana Illinois.
Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
Week confident because we're about to beat them down on
one one.
Speaker 6 (01:43:45):
So for all you asking who's gonna win more games,
you know, the Hoosiers or the Colts. You're not gonna
start off very well. If you're a Hoosiers, saying, just
letting you know right now, that is a big game
early in the season.
Speaker 1 (01:43:57):
All right, we'll get to all of that stuff. His
time marches forward, but right now, let's check things down
for here and now.
Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
Lost the morning checkdown on Nutti sweet five and one
oh seven five. The fan started with the Indian had
a fever.
Speaker 1 (01:44:11):
They were on the court last night at the Fieldhouse,
but they came out on the wrong end of an
eighty one eighty contest with the Dallas Wings seventeen turnovers,
James Boyd twice. They had to rally from double digit deficits,
still as poorly as they played last night. Kelsey Mitchell,
who had twenty four, had a chance to win it
at the end. It wasn't a great look. But man,
if they'd have won that game, I forget about it,
(01:44:32):
because they didn't really deserve to win that game.
Speaker 2 (01:44:35):
Yeah, and uh should have what Akuta is not reality.
Speaker 6 (01:44:38):
They lost that game. Tough loss for him, the last possession.
I'm sure they wish they had back. But at the
same time, sometimes you know, you don't always get over
the hump, and I think the Pacers kind of spoiled
us a bit we're talking about them a little earlier
with how I finished games with a Fever. Fortunate on
the wrong end of that one last night. Now, who
was the six to seven girl off the bench?
Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Lee?
Speaker 4 (01:44:59):
Yea our room.
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
You had it down, James, but you did it. You
have a Yeah, I think it's you are Rum.
Speaker 4 (01:45:06):
Maybe we'll text Ryan Ruco and ask him to do
that might have been the game of her life. She
was unbelievable. Yeah, she was unbelievable. They have Fever had
no answer for whatsoever. Boy, that was a rough final
few minutes. So you you a ru But yeah, you know,
like I said earlier, thank you. You can have a
bad loss for that race Without Kaitlyn Clark. I think
last night was one of them live in a row.
(01:45:28):
They were missing one of their leading scores, not like
the Fever had their first game back from the West
Coast trip. So the rare bad loss without their star.
Speaker 1 (01:45:36):
Three of four they've lost. Now they will play Washington
again on Friday night. The Mystics come in. They'll start
at seven thirty. Eddie Garrison will have the fan pregame
show for you at seven fifteen on Friday night. Meanwhile,
the Indianapolis Colts have been talking about them quite a bit.
They'll be at joint practices with the Green Bay Packers tomorrow,
but James Boyd Packers will be missing their starting quarterback.
Speaker 6 (01:45:57):
Yeah, but then they're going to have their star quarterback
mo League Willis because he had the game of his life.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
Against the Colts last year.
Speaker 6 (01:46:05):
In my game of the life, I mean he was
toble fourteen passing for one hundred and twenty two yards.
Speaker 4 (01:46:09):
Have I told you not to dame? Basketballs are ready
for this year.
Speaker 1 (01:46:12):
I cannot we go to break. Where's your buzzer?
Speaker 3 (01:46:14):
There?
Speaker 1 (01:46:14):
Mark to break?
Speaker 4 (01:46:15):
Shooting Surda Shrews Barry Sir Mohammed in year two, pluck
through up, big guys. I can't wait to put me
to sleep. I can't wait. I'll be at the exhibition
game at Ankle. I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
Verbal sleep aid is what Kevin?
Speaker 1 (01:46:31):
Get all your laughs now, Ice blew sleep. It tough
news for for Purdue alumni Rondell Moore. For the second
year in a row, he will miss an entire season
with injury. He blew out a knee and will miss
the entire season. He was injured in a game on
Saturday night, and they found out last night that the
MRI did not look good. It's just I love watching
(01:46:53):
that young man play. He's electric and KB. I just
I hope he can come back one more time because
it's gonna be tough two straight years.
Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
Yeah, we talked about it. James, ask Kyle and nnerup
when he joined us yesterday. You're mount rushmore of Indiana
high school football players. Kyle seen in the eighteen years
that we have been so fortunate to watch him cover
preps here locally. And I'm not gonna act like I
was watching a bunch of New Albanny high school football games.
But at Purdue on the list, I mean that's the
(01:47:21):
anteline Randall l You know what that Rondell Moore provided.
So he was absolutely incredible there for the boy the
makers there, and unfortunately injuries have largely defined his NFL career.
Speaker 1 (01:47:31):
And for you fantasy football players, James Cook is back
in the fold with the Buffalo Bills. He had a
hole the ind but he got a four year, forty
eight million dollar deal, so he'd be back to give
away for the Bills in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:47:42):
Yeah, we got that coming up, Will so when we
need to finalize how many spots we have available here?
Speaker 3 (01:47:48):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:47:48):
Kevin and I are in, James is out, he said,
I'm in, Jeff is in Okay, and he to send
you an invite. Then you need to sign up.
Speaker 4 (01:47:55):
So we what we will do then? As you're thinking
twelve teams, so that leaves nine spots and as usual
a nine o'clock hour draft.
Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
Are we doing nine o'clock hour? I have it set
for eight if you'd like me to push it to nine,
kind of like nine?
Speaker 1 (01:48:11):
Jeff?
Speaker 4 (01:48:11):
Are you good on the multitasking? Uh, drafting and doing
the show?
Speaker 3 (01:48:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:48:15):
I'm fine with that.
Speaker 2 (01:48:16):
James can hold down the Ford. What's he doing? What
am I doing?
Speaker 1 (01:48:21):
Draft?
Speaker 2 (01:48:22):
Drafting? So I should keep tracking. You should be giving
Jeff advice. You should really share Mark.
Speaker 4 (01:48:29):
This is what probably year, I don't know five we've
done this. Yeah, boy, if we had some issues in
the old multitasking of drafting and doing the show. I
just want to make sure Jeff's good.
Speaker 2 (01:48:40):
Oh yeah, yeah, Jake is I can't do it?
Speaker 1 (01:48:42):
What's going on here? How do I get?
Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
How do I draft the Chargers defense?
Speaker 1 (01:48:45):
First?
Speaker 2 (01:48:46):
Overall?
Speaker 1 (01:48:46):
The little ding, well, these are the previous issues we've had.
Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
Please do not that serious statement. He was always confused.
What you meant him on the clock again?
Speaker 3 (01:48:58):
What that?
Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
What that does sound like?
Speaker 2 (01:49:01):
Fast?
Speaker 4 (01:49:02):
I was three minutes into a nine minute story.
Speaker 1 (01:49:04):
Talking about you, Prince, and you know I love you,
Jake uh baseball real quickly. The Cincinnati Reads beat the
Phillies last night six to one. Rocky shut out the
Cardinals three nothing. It was the White Sox getting a
victory over the Tigers ninety six. And the Milwaukee Brewers,
for the second time this year, have won eleven games
in a row and they love beating up on Paul
(01:49:25):
Skins fourteen nothing. Last night they get to win over
the Pittsburgh Pirate.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
Have I mentioned Jalen Harrelson for the Irish? Remember when
he committed no talk about a point forward?
Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
He could ball.
Speaker 4 (01:49:39):
I'd need all the drugs in the world.
Speaker 6 (01:49:41):
He don't need you, no, I mean, like in high school,
he was amazing. He obviously up and left, and I
don't blame him for doing that because he was amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
We've lost Kevin for a while, haven't we.
Speaker 4 (01:49:50):
Mark, He's gonna have to fist found myself though.
Speaker 1 (01:49:52):
Yeah, probably didn't You start an OnlyFans account about an
hour ago.
Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
For a notre name basketball.
Speaker 6 (01:49:58):
Oh get Jeff Wines wants to get us off the air.
And now now said he's talking about Holy fans, we can.
Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Talk about the birds and the bees. He gets it,
gets at queazy. But now you know, all of a sudden,
you're coming over to the other side, and are we
on here?
Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
We are on see you in a moment here at
ninety three five and one of seven five, you.
Speaker 4 (01:50:18):
Know if you can promise protection.
Speaker 2 (01:50:22):
Honestly, now I say that out loud, it sounds like
I'm reading like a condom ad.
Speaker 1 (01:50:27):
Some discussion over the fantasy football league there during the break,
how do you want to put people into this league?
Mark Dycht and what's your what's your thought process here?
Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Well, we've usually done like same face, new place for
like players that have switched teams in the offseason. Kevin suggested,
you know, long listening to the show some knowledge here,
Make make them sure, make them earn it like that
they've been listening the show Trivia. So I have one
question that we could throw out there. If we want
to give away our first spot, we have nine spots available.
(01:50:54):
Jeff is well, Jeff has to accept his invites, so
we have nine available, but we will have.
Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
He said it to me like a minute and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:51:01):
Again, what else are you doing over there? Priority multitasking
is already going down. We need to your p's and
q's here.
Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
I have a little skip is going to go.
Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
I was looking at Derek's text. He says, do you
need a fifty year old intern? He'd work for a
spot in the Fantasy League.
Speaker 5 (01:51:16):
Look at that.
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
Well, he's at the same Derek that's offered me more
and a raise because he can join.
Speaker 4 (01:51:21):
All the leagues.
Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
Then you might you might have a protege soon, Mark, Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
I'll take it. Uh So, if we want to do
long like you know, who's been listening Mayo PLoP?
Speaker 4 (01:51:32):
Is that my team name?
Speaker 5 (01:51:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:51:33):
That was you last year.
Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
Yeah, I need to change my I think mine's like
a default like Mars Magnificent teams seen excellence. I was
pissing excellence. That's right, because who was that? Who's the
former gosder Shareless? Yeah, whizzing on a plane. That was
a great reference last year. Okay, So if we're doing
for who's been listening longer, how about this first one
(01:51:56):
to answer this question? Two three nine seventy The phone
number Jeff has mentioned insect the last three consecutive shows.
Name that insect.
Speaker 1 (01:52:04):
We I had to give an update on what it was. Well, no,
you can't not now, No, that's why I mentioned it today.
Money on the table Jason here, Jason Ellis sent us
the answer there, so got to get it.
Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
I want what you've been calling it though, So two three,
nine seventy you get the answer, and you're in the
fantasy you can get the first spot, you believe.
Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
Rick Carlisle shared with us earlier that watched the first
four and a half minutes of Game seven and then
shut it off.
Speaker 1 (01:52:29):
Real. That's real, respect, it is real.
Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
And is that not the Marion Webster definition of torture?
Speaker 2 (01:52:39):
Yeah, it's got to be.
Speaker 4 (01:52:40):
I mean, can you I that thought has not crossed
my mind? Are there people out there that have done that?
Speaker 5 (01:52:48):
Like?
Speaker 4 (01:52:48):
Literally, you watched the third tyres three and if I
remember correctly, that man came to the bench talking, Oh
he was talking crazy and it's hrutting, and they go
to time out, they go to commercial break, and then
that's when Rick said he had had enough and then
just shut it off.
Speaker 2 (01:53:04):
Our guy had uh.
Speaker 6 (01:53:05):
The athletic Marcus Thompson phenomenal writer, and uh, when he
wrote about that game and the build up prior to
the injury with Tyreevese, he mentioned that Tyrese had walked
in there like he was a bank robber, like it
was a heist gosh, And I was like, wow, I
could definitely get that feeling because he was there to
(01:53:25):
spoil all of the narratives, the pageantry, the you know,
NBA won a crown Oklahoma City or whatever, like they
wanted to be the misfit and he was bad news champions.
Speaker 4 (01:53:37):
While yeah, he wasn't going to get he was going
to make sure that everybody in there heard him.
Speaker 1 (01:53:43):
And gosh, I know I come of it from a
kind of a little homersm. Yeah, but that's I don't
care because I was I really wanted that for this franchise.
But it felt like they were on their way to
something special that night. No, I would agree with that
they did. It felt like they were there to rob
the bank.
Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:54:04):
They had a plan and they were executing it. And
you know, all respect to Rick, I have several times
gone back through some of those game winners and those
final segments, as we had talked about before Kevin. But
I've not been able to get to Game seven. Yeah,
I'm mean I can't do that.
Speaker 4 (01:54:17):
I get the game winning part, but the first four
and a half minutes of Game seven just seems like
absolute torture and just the constant what if. And you know,
I've gone with the different what if, like I haven't
gone with the game seven what if? To me, the
real what if it is the game four. The end
of Game four, you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
Know always that one guy's got to be different than
everybody else.
Speaker 4 (01:54:38):
You guys know that. I was MOPI, MOPI after that one.
When you have that lead on your home floor and
at that point you can go up three to one,
do the Vince Carter. It's over the Thunder not winning
three in a row. The Thunder are not winning three
in a row at that point, and to have that
on that Friday night, I can distinctly it went here
(01:55:00):
ball late. It was hard against Chet. It was Halliburton
against Chet, and Chet won every single time in those
hero ball moments, Shay hits a huge three late late Chocola.
I go back more to the game four and just
think there's an opportunity lost. Gosh, hmmm mm mmmm and
then I love the rat game reference there because then
(01:55:20):
after that James, when you asked him to clarify what
rat game meant, Rick Carlisle calling it that Game seven
turned into a rat game.
Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:55:29):
Once the thunder like got a little control of it,
that game got so ugly and it got so clunky.
What what did I'm trying to think what even the
final score was?
Speaker 1 (01:55:40):
I felt like it was I've erased that part of this.
Speaker 3 (01:55:44):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:55:44):
Yeah, and I might have my my nephew and we
were on vacation last month. He loves to just drum
up you know the YouTube highlights, and so I mean
he doesn't care. He just wants to watch Pacers basketball.
He doesn't care what it is. And all of a
sudden I looked up and he was watching Game seven
and he had it was watching brick Smids. He's keeping
it somewhat modern. Uh, and he, you know, got it
(01:56:07):
to the point where it was like whatever Matherin has
like an and one to make it like ninety eighty.
Maybe I kind of forgot about like that aspect of
the game. What it got super clunky, and all the
Pacers really had was just Matherin just going rat game yeah,
and that's what Rick was referencing. I think a little
bit there as well.
Speaker 1 (01:56:24):
The text line blowing up with the answer to your question.
But I think you took a phone call for the
spot in the in the league, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
Shout out to Ross who he said he doesn't do
fantasy football much, but when he does because he wants
to do the show league. So he's in first spot
to go eight left.
Speaker 4 (01:56:41):
We need a prize on the line real quickly.
Speaker 1 (01:56:45):
We'll figure that in the next year too, we'll get
something nice. How do you feel about Cody who said, hey, look,
I was actually the first to correct Jeff in the
chat that they're not sweat bees, that they're hoverflies.
Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
Well, I wanted whatever you were calling him, which was
I know that was the correct you knew that sweat bee.
Speaker 1 (01:57:00):
But then he he said, he's the one that also
said it's the We.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
Went with phone calls on that one.
Speaker 1 (01:57:05):
So that's a you problem. Draft, Yeah, most of things
are my problem. I mean, let's be honest.
Speaker 2 (01:57:11):
We've set the draft for Wednesday, September third, at nine am,
so it's the day before the season opener.
Speaker 1 (01:57:17):
Love it. So that's what we're doing.
Speaker 4 (01:57:19):
That's excellent work Mark.
Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
I'll let you all stress out over well. I don't
like these ones that have drafts, like during pre season
all that, because so much uncertainty and injuries happened. Like
there's someone someone I know they already drafted. I'm like,
you are an insane person. That's stupid, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (01:57:32):
I get that.
Speaker 4 (01:57:32):
There are people that like, do are you a part
of any of these leagues? Like you go somewhere moundies
are like, yeah, I'm going on a boys trip this weekend.
We're doing our fantasy draft. No, we've gone like Colough, Yeah,
I've done the BW Three's one you just want to
but that's never boy. I just love to see the
look on Mattie's face. But I was like, yeah, head
out for the weekend and we're going to draft a
(01:57:53):
fantasy football field.
Speaker 2 (01:57:55):
Yates like separated his shoulder like they're figuring out his
draft on the shoulder doing that.
Speaker 6 (01:58:00):
And he tackled it like one of the dummies or
whatever and dislocated his freaking shoulder.
Speaker 4 (01:58:04):
Yeah, and this is why I didn't run the forty
yard ash James with you?
Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
Is that the only Oh I gotta I gotta decide
if I'm running it again? On with it tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (01:58:12):
Yeah, Oh, have you gotten faster than the last?
Speaker 6 (01:58:13):
I gotta see. I gotta see if you know the players,
I say, they got to get one percent better?
Speaker 4 (01:58:17):
Well, and I got to see if you believe. You know,
there's a thought when you play golf. Sometimes in hotter weather,
the ball travels a little bit further. It will probably
be hotter tomorrow afternoon than it was at seven forty five.
Speaker 1 (01:58:27):
Some real stretching. And you're in the prime of your life.
Speaker 4 (01:58:30):
This might you Saint Hilt.
Speaker 1 (01:58:32):
Yeah, you know, I could be blazing.
Speaker 6 (01:58:34):
I'm just trying to share everybody. You know, I'm more
than a radio host, Okay, I'm an actual athlete.
Speaker 4 (01:58:38):
Should we have forty?
Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
Should we have the forty to the fan Olympic Games
between Kevin and James because we already got basketball golf?
Now we can.
Speaker 6 (01:58:45):
When I came over and told Kevin that I had
run the forty, he looked at me and say, you
are crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:58:50):
I was appalled.
Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
I was a palled.
Speaker 4 (01:58:52):
I don't even walked the fort I saw him cut
about seven little kids in line to sign his waiver
to get up there.
Speaker 2 (01:58:57):
I definitely pulled up Bill Belichick and I was just
like walking and get out the way. And I genuinely
said when I got up there, whose kid wants to lose?
And they're the fan. The parents were just like, you
are nuts, and they were laughing about it.
Speaker 4 (01:59:09):
So the number one pick in fantasy football this year
is who.
Speaker 6 (01:59:14):
I think he's gonna be, say, qualmed, but I don't
think it should be. I feel like anytime you draft
a running back that came off of a crazy year,
they always get hurt very early in the year.
Speaker 4 (01:59:24):
Into my head, I was thinking maybe be John Robinson.
Speaker 1 (01:59:26):
That was the other one.
Speaker 4 (01:59:28):
And if you don't want to go running back, I
just feel like Jamar chasees fall out of bed and
a given and all the all the Bengals do is
throw it.
Speaker 2 (01:59:36):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
You were about Justin Jefferson this year because you don't
know what J. J. McCarthy's going well, and I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:59:41):
I feel like.
Speaker 4 (01:59:43):
He didn't hurt the hamstring again, he's doing a hamstring,
So that one a little bit. The top Colt skill
player not named Jonathan Taylor Josh Downs.
Speaker 1 (01:59:54):
That will be my big Tyler Warren be sneaky.
Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
I'm gonyler he could be sneaky because they're going so
much depth issue at tight end anyway, I could easily
see titles forward.
Speaker 1 (02:00:03):
You just spam.
Speaker 2 (02:00:06):
Kelsey and then you get get Dallas Goddr and like
who the hell is is playing anymore? George Kittle and stuff?
And then like I'm not taking a flyer on Kyle
Pitts or should I try Tyler Warren this time? Are
you guys the real questions? Are you guys drafting a
cold quarterback?
Speaker 3 (02:00:21):
Hell?
Speaker 6 (02:00:21):
No, no, I minute to win it the hell right, Jeff,
you can't be saying this so vihemently. You were telling
me not to be feeling good about this quarterback room.
You know, No, Jeff better be drafting eighty Mitchell.
Speaker 4 (02:00:33):
He needs to be draft.
Speaker 1 (02:00:33):
Described by I'm fine with that, but describe my enthusiasm
for the quarterbacks. It wasn't like I was saying that
their top tier.
Speaker 4 (02:00:40):
Well, if you think cults are winning eleven games, then
that means you think good.
Speaker 1 (02:00:43):
You told me, settle just gets higher every time we talk.
I never wanted eleven games.
Speaker 4 (02:00:48):
Well yeah I will, Mark.
Speaker 1 (02:00:49):
Do you have that audio?
Speaker 2 (02:00:50):
Yeah? We need to find this climb and dig it
up never s. But this should be eighty Mitchell. The
eighty Mitchell hype. Training should certainly start with jeff Rickord.
He's gotta be your first pick, Jeff.
Speaker 6 (02:01:01):
If you don't Mitchell as your first pick, you have
no faith in him catching eighty two footballs this season.
Speaker 1 (02:01:06):
Even that, though, is not enough to win. You would
league well.
Speaker 4 (02:01:10):
For receptions out there. First Mike saying you don't draft
Barkley because he's on the front cover of Madden.
Speaker 1 (02:01:17):
This is also strategy the Madden curse.
Speaker 4 (02:01:19):
You guys believe in that.
Speaker 2 (02:01:20):
I actually kind of do. I feel like everybody gets hurt,
but there seems to be some history.
Speaker 6 (02:01:24):
I think the real reason is because whoever on the
cover usually won a Super Bowl the year before, or
they went very far in the playoffs, and so they
just get hurt because they played so many games recently.
Speaker 2 (02:01:34):
Does Christian McAffrey have a bounce back here?
Speaker 4 (02:01:35):
But you talk about a guy that's hurt.
Speaker 1 (02:01:37):
Can you count on him being healthy? I know, just
such a great player when he ran goes love that.
Speaker 4 (02:01:41):
Kevin said, BW threes emblematic of wisdom only gained by
us in those older generations. Did I sound really old?
Saying b W threes. Yeah, yeah, that was I mean,
I does sickly remember us going to the Glendale one
and and we had like the actual board they gave
you like a draft boy or you walked in and
(02:02:02):
I'm trying to think who it was. Might have been
Mark bran Agan's like literally putting these names on the
board for the league.
Speaker 1 (02:02:08):
Yeah, I did it.
Speaker 2 (02:02:09):
The one down the street over here, we did. We
did a fantasy draft party one time, and we did
that same thing. You brought like thirty dollars worth of appetizers,
inch like here you go, here's the private room.
Speaker 4 (02:02:19):
That's a great idea, that's e W threes.
Speaker 2 (02:02:23):
Well, I always wondered what was the three in the
turn Buffalo wild Wings?
Speaker 4 (02:02:27):
What was the third part was wild wings?
Speaker 3 (02:02:30):
Is that what it was?
Speaker 1 (02:02:31):
See? I didn't even know that I learned something today.
Speaker 3 (02:02:33):
Can no.
Speaker 1 (02:02:34):
I have no idea is making that up? Yes, I
believe you had Mark, and I thinker Mark and I
were there with you. All Right, we'll finish up strong
here as we continue the Fan Morning Show on a
Wednesday ninety three, five seven. Get ready to finish up
and turn you over to ESPN Radio for a couple
of hours. Then Jay Query comes your way at noon,
JMV at three as always, and Mark. They will both
(02:02:57):
be coming to you from the state Fair. What would
you recommend that they check out for lunch?
Speaker 2 (02:03:01):
Well, James was just there yesterday. I feel like we
need to get hit. I haven't been in like a
week ago. Yeah, it was fine. I had some loaded
barbecue fries are really good.
Speaker 1 (02:03:11):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (02:03:12):
I also had a lemon shake up because that's just
a staple I guess Indiana state Fairs. And I had
the Key Lime Milkshick milkshake from the dairy bar. So
that was the three things that I ate or consumed
at the state Fair. I am not I don't think
my body's made out for State fair like unless it
comes in smaller portions.
Speaker 2 (02:03:31):
I feel like I eat one or two things.
Speaker 6 (02:03:32):
And I'm like, all right, I got to come back
another day to try something else, because otherwise I feel
like I'm gonna be eat myself to a coma.
Speaker 2 (02:03:37):
That's why we go a couple of times. I can't
eat all this now.
Speaker 6 (02:03:41):
Yeah, samples, I feel like they they should. They should
offer smaller portions and I would try more things.
Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Even when I went to the sampling thing. They gave
it a pork I'm not kidous this big. I'm like,
that's a sample. I know a size sandwich. Am I
dealing with all this?
Speaker 6 (02:03:54):
But it was It was a good time. I enjoyed
it for sure, and I'm hoping to make at least
one more time before it finishes up this weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:04:02):
I think it's like four days left or whatever, so
we're gonna try to get out I think one more time,
but we'll see.
Speaker 1 (02:04:06):
So if I took you over there and I said
this is that you can only have one item, what
would it be?
Speaker 2 (02:04:12):
I haven't tried it yet, but it's on my list.
I think it's on James's list too. It's like the
deep fried pork chops. Yeah, I couldn't find it. I
know exactly where it is. It's right outside the Harvest pavilion.
I've already seen where it's at. I've like zeroed in
on it like I'm tackling you down. It sounds like
I got something else to do prep later today. Bless you, Kevin,
thank you for joining us again by Wild Wings and
you ditched us Mark bike in. Yeah, that's why I
(02:04:34):
saw it. I was like, what the hell is weck
and they said it was some kind of bread beef
sandwich or bread or something.
Speaker 3 (02:04:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:04:40):
I'm like, okay, I guess I had no idea. I
went with your wet and wild thought.
Speaker 1 (02:04:45):
I was all in.
Speaker 2 (02:04:46):
I was like, okay, we we same thing.
Speaker 5 (02:04:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:04:48):
A couple of people sending us images of those too.
Jason sent what he in?
Speaker 3 (02:04:51):
Now?
Speaker 1 (02:04:52):
Yeah, whoa of the sandwich?
Speaker 2 (02:04:54):
We can get images on the text line that could
be really dangerous text line.
Speaker 4 (02:04:58):
We were worried about the YouTube stream and now worry
now we're not images but.
Speaker 1 (02:05:05):
Difference.
Speaker 2 (02:05:06):
Yeah, I don't mean I want to see that.
Speaker 1 (02:05:07):
I was going to say, I think that's even more sandwich.
You guys are right there with Mark and the gutter
that way. How does that work? It's like Dick's on steroid.
Speaker 2 (02:05:16):
James, whoa, whoa, chill, chill, chill, Lord, hold down over there?
What context was this in? But no, I did say
those words, so use them however you wish.
Speaker 1 (02:05:27):
Mark Man, oh man, oh man, I love that. Uh
So the cults have another day off today. Everybody kind
of rusting a little bit. Uh you think we'll see
a lot of guys just not playing tomorrow. That have
been nursing injuries dreams.
Speaker 6 (02:05:41):
I don't know, because we never get the severity of
the injuries. We just hear Shane tell us a body part.
With the way Shane Breakdown breaks down injuries is actually
I shouldn't laugh at it, but it is funny to
me sometimes because we'll ask, Hey, what is this guy
dealing with? Always got a little foot, you got a
little back, You've got a little knee, And I'm like, well,
I know, I know that he has a knee in
(02:06:01):
a back.
Speaker 2 (02:06:02):
How is it doing?
Speaker 6 (02:06:03):
And so we haven't really got an update on any
timelines for these guys. So I am curious to see
if alb Pieris will be back in action, Nick Cross
will be back in action, and obviously in any of
the cornerbacks. When it comes to Kenny Moore, Jalen Jones
or Juju Brins, we'll just have to wait.
Speaker 1 (02:06:18):
And see who shoots up and gets out there and
plays Kevin anything in particular you want to learn about, folks,
you know that we haven't talked about yet today because
I know we've been focusing on the quarterback. We've talked
a little bit about some of the other positions, but
along that defensive line. Is it pretty much set?
Speaker 4 (02:06:33):
One thing I do want to add to James, I
feel like in years past, today's also been a joint practice.
I feel like they've had the Wednesday Thursday joint sessions
there and again green Bay's really banged up. Matt Lafleur
was literally asked yesterday, did you think about canceling the
joint practice with the Colts due to all of their injuries.
He laughed at the question, but still the fact that
(02:06:54):
it was asked kind of shows you where Green Bay's
at from a health standpoint. So unfortunately it's only one
joint practice hence back to back off days for the
Colts here Tuesday and Wednesday. Yeah, linebacker and corner I
go to probably more than D line. I mean D line.
Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:07:08):
Sure, when you get into full pads, you want to
see what they look like against green Bay starters. And
I think green Bay starting on line is decently intact.
But linebacker and corner I just have no clue. And
I'm talking no clue on starting spots. I mean the
guy that runs out next to Sire Franklin. Like, let's
say the Colts open up in nickel five defensive backs
week one, probably pretty likely against Green Bay consider or
(02:07:30):
against Miami considering their passing game. So two linebackers and
three corners. I have no idea who the second linebacker is,
and I have no idea who the third corner is.
And the reason I ask Rare, I mean on August thirteenth,
I feel like, for the most part, you can write
everything in on the depth chart in pen if not sharpie,
(02:07:51):
and those two spots starting spots, I'd write it in
the lightest pencil I can.
Speaker 1 (02:07:58):
Yeah, the reason I asked that question is I would
love one of the things we need to see from
this team if they're going to be better, is to
get a little bit of pressure on the quarterback. And
because Green Bay has a mostly intact offensive line, and
I do believe from what I've heard they are going
to start and play a little bit, I would like
to see somebody make an impact from that defensive line certainly.
Speaker 4 (02:08:15):
And Lot two has had a really really good training camp.
Now again, will that translate, James, you were there, do
you remember a lot to doing much in the joint
practice last week in Baltimore? He only played a series
in the game.
Speaker 6 (02:08:28):
So yeah, to be honest, I wasn't able to watch
a lot of him to watch the offense. Yeah, and
they're setup, like I told you, was a little bit more.
I think the fans were able to probably see it
better than we were as media members. It was a
unique setup. No, I mean every setup is different. This
pros and cons. But I really could not tell, to
be honest with.
Speaker 4 (02:08:46):
You, like that's the difficulty with him right now in
training camp. It's like does he just know Bradon Smith
really well and is able to, you know, kind of
get the best of him. Obviously it's better than the alternative.
And I don't really think any of their defensive end
is cooking like a lot two is. So Yeah, definitely
getting some pressure with your front four much needed.
Speaker 1 (02:09:06):
Also, I want to put a point on the Fever
game last night. You heard it live here at ninety
through five one h seventy five the fan time for
the Fever Focus. It is brought to you by and
after every game by Payless Liquers. Get more Payless at
Payless Liquors. It was about turnovers and being sloppy. I
thought maybe not having a point guard kind of caught
up with them last night, James.
Speaker 6 (02:09:25):
It did, and it cost them in a one point loss,
a painful loss, but they'll have a chance to bounce
back and kind of get back on a roll. They've
lost what three or four you said, Jeff, so not
doing well as of late, but a chance to bounce
back Friday against the Mystics.
Speaker 1 (02:09:38):
And we still don't get any kind of update on
maybe how much longer it is for Caitlyn Clark. Yeah,
no updates. That's how that goes. They will play it
against Friday night.
Speaker 4 (02:09:47):
Do they practice today? I assume they practice there today
or tomorrow right with no game until Friday.
Speaker 6 (02:09:52):
I have to check their schedule, but I would assume that, yeah,
they're probably gonna get least one practice in.
Speaker 1 (02:09:57):
Well, they need to get going again and try to
hang in there. As I mentioned a little while ago,
they are two full games now out of that fourth spot,
which would be home court advantage in that first round
of the playoffs, and hanging in there ahead of La
LA's a ninth Right now, they got a couple and
a two and a half game lead on them, so
they're still okay there, but they do need to win
some games pick it back up, because they had one
(02:10:18):
six of eight before this late last little run here.
Speaker 6 (02:10:21):
Yeah, and then Odyssey Simms made her debut for the Fever.
She's like their emergency point guard basically over the next
week or so.
Speaker 2 (02:10:28):
So we'll see if she can have a better game
come Friday again against the Mystics.
Speaker 1 (02:10:32):
All right, anything else you're looking forward to tonight in
the world of sports, the Colts being off, Fever being off.
You're gonna take the day off, James Boyd always, I'm
gonna get it done.
Speaker 4 (02:10:41):
I'm gonna watch Notre Dame basketball highlights.
Speaker 2 (02:10:45):
Oh yuck.
Speaker 4 (02:10:46):
I mean, you guys are laughing over here. Notre Dame
basketball has made it to the Elite eight more recently
than Indiana basketball twice. In fact, Notre Dame back to
back of lead eights.
Speaker 2 (02:10:55):
Oh that would hurt me if I was an IU fan,
