Speaker 2 (00:22):
The Golden Girls, Season six, episode seventeen, There Goes the Bride,
Part two, original air date February ninth, nineteen ninety one.
In this episode, Dorothy is going to see Stan. Sophia
is not happy. Rose comes back and informs them Myra
(00:45):
is getting worse. Sophia tries to set Dorothy up with
another man. It's another day and Blanche over sleeps. She
has interviews for a new housemate lined up for when
Dorothy moves out and lives with Stan. Wants to take
Sophia with her, but Sophia would prefer to stay. She's
(01:05):
got a jump interview at McDonald's to help pay her rent.
Rose comes back up set her breaks went out and
she almost died.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
She thinks Myra tampered with her brakes. A phone call
comes in.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Rose thinks it's Myra, but it's Chuck. For Blanche. Blanche
has a lady coming over to see the room. She
asks them to behave She's already turned down a dozen people.
They were too young, too pretty, too much competition for Blanche.
Truvia arrives to meet everyone. She has quite a story
(01:43):
with three dead husbands. The wedding rehearsal is taking place
at the same time. Sophia interrupts, thinking it is the
actual wedding, but it's not. The Next day, things for
the wedding start to arrive, even the flowers, so a
thought she canceled. Rose tells a Saint Olave's story to
(02:04):
try and share Sophia up, but it doesn't work, but
it does get Blanche a jumping off point. The girls
see Dorothy in her wedding dress and thinks she looks beautiful.
Blanche and Rose talk a bit about their own weddings.
Dorothy describes her first wedding to Stan. Everyone was crying
(02:27):
for different reasons. They help her get ready. Dorothy is queasy,
just like she was at her first wedding. This time
she's not pregnant, though Sophia shows.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Up after all.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
She warns Stan to treat Dorothy right. This time, Myra
shows up. She is going to stop bothering Rose and
move into Shady Pines. Stanley arrives with his lawyer, who
was also his best man. He wants Dorothy to sign
a massive prenup agreement instead of citing it. She on
(03:00):
the head with it, calls off the wedding and throws
them out. She announces she has decided not to make
the same mistake twice. Stan also gave her the tickets
to Aruba, so she and Sophia head off to enjoy
the trip. Favorite quotes Dorothy, my mother refuses to accept
(03:24):
the fact that I am getting married in three days Errol, So, uh,
what are you doing tonight?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Dorothy? Goodbye Errol.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Blanche, Why didn't somebody wake me, Sophia, Because the last
time I walked into your bedroom unannounced, some guy mister
trampoline and almost killed me. Sophia, I'm not living with
you in Stan Dorothy, Yes you are, Ma. I want
you with us, and besides, you can't afford to live alone, Sophia.
(03:55):
Blanche will let me keep my room and I have
an interview at McDonald's if I can see over the
counter of their new fry girl.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Blanche. Good you're both here. Listen.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
I interviewed a very sweet lady on the phone, and
she'll be here soon. So when she gets here, please
pretend to be nice.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Rose.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
You've already turned down about twelve people. They're either too
thin or too pretty or too young. It's like you
only want to live with a woman who has no
sex appeal whatsoever. You think we're dogs, don't you, Truby.
He's dead, sweetie, But hey, I'm used to it. I
put three in the ground. Well, what can I tell you?
(04:37):
I like em old rich and barely breathin', Truby. I
always get nervous at weddings, weddings and funerals.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I've been to so many of both. I get mixed up.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Same guestless, same flowers, handful of rice, handful of dirt.
The only difference is after the funeral, It's ok to
date Blanche.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
I'm beginning to like her. Sophia. You've got a second chance.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
But if you hurt my daughter again, I'll make you
miserable for the rest of my life. And if I
lay off meeting Dery, that could be as.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Much as five years.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Dorothy, you want me to sign a prenuptial agreement? You
want me to sign a prenuptial agreement? Stanley, Whatever happened
to openness and honesty and trust? Not to mention the
thirty eight years that I spent as your wife, your partner,
(05:33):
the mother of your children, the woman who held down
two jobs while you were at home, staring at a
match book trying.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
To draw Winkie.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Dorothy, God, this has always been my worst night, ma'am.
Trueby a wedding falling apart at the last minute, Dorothy,
no going on a honeymoon was my mother? Well, this
episode is a dramatic end to the first half. Stan
(06:09):
and Dorothy rekindling their romance.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
And it going up in flames.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
For lack of a better way to describe it, you know,
Myra gets resolved, She's gonna go to Shady Pines, and
Sophia is gonna give her all the ins and outs
because well that's what Sophia does now. Dorothy and Stan
oh on. I mean, I think all of us watching,
no matter how many times we watched this, we knew
(06:36):
this was a bad idea, her getting back together with Stan.
No matter what you do, it ain't gonna end well
because Stan is always gonna be Stan, and the reason
that you ended a relationship the first time is quite
likely gonna be the reason you end the relationship the
second time.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
But I mean, people do change.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
People do decide that change is worth it so they
can have the person that they really want to be
with if they're really truly love them, but I mean
it's Stan, and Stan is just all about Stan. So
his emotional maturity not very good. Definitely not close to
his age, maybe like a five or six year old.
(07:16):
There are ten potentium when he doesn't get his play.
But yeah, it's just kind of sad. Stan is his
own worst enemy. He wants to be loved, but he's
just really not capable of being mature in a relationship.
He has to think about the other person's feelings, how
(07:36):
his actions affect their feelings. Maybe he doesn't, what's the point,
You're just hurting the other person. But Stan, Stan is Stan.
And my favorite part of this episode is when Dorothy
wax him on the head with that prenuptial agreement, which
actually looks like it is bigger and has more pages
(07:57):
than the Bible. That thing looks like it is about
twenty thirty pounds, and I don't know how anybody picked
that up. Now, we have a really cool guest star
in this episode. I know, I don't talk much about
guest stars because most of the time there really aren't
that any, you know. I mean, we've had Dick Van
Dyke throughout the show, and he's a really cool guest
star and the finale guest star is awesome.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
But in this case, the guest.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Star is true be played by none other than Debbie Reynolds.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Now, I don't know if anybody's.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Aware of this, but if you're a Star Wars fan
al so like me, Debbie Reynolds is Carrie Fisher's mom
aka Princess Leah, you know, and it's been It was
very tragic seeing Carrie Fisher pass and then her mom,
Debbie Reynolds, passed days later because she just couldn't cope,
you know. I mean, some of the guest stars that
(08:48):
are in this series are incredible, you know, and this
one was a legend in her own right.
