Attorney and counselor at law Tonight,I'd like you to consider the cliche that
runs lucky in cards unlucky in love, because that brings up the case of
Lucky a Tero, the exception whoproved the rule. As his name implies,
he was lucky in everything. Forexample, look at him now as
he takes part in a fast pokergame. He's the good looking, dark
(03:01):

all night and it's the deck. You're going to take that back? Last,
and not take an elephant back.Stay away from me? You're going
(04:33):

the level. But with your lot, everybody says, what I studied?

George Harrid. I tell you thehorses to play. If we lose,
it doesn't cause you anything. Ifwe win, I give you a cat.
Let's have the cash. It's adeal, that deal with all those

Yeah, that's late. I wonderif I was keeping them. I stopped
up. Well, we made thedeal. Recriminds me, I have a
(08:26):

You know? Things like said,Oh yeah, well they want to
use your name a connection with itand some of your experiences since you're getting
(08:50):
to be famous, he said, would be good money in it. Well
I'm doing all right. Why shouldI bother with something like this? All
right? I just thought I'll dothe thinking for this time. O night.
Oh no, don't look like that. Like what Maybe you know i'd
(09:13):
do anything for you. You wantme to call that publishing? Tell all,
I tell you what matters. Everybodysays I'm luck. That's right,
I'm the lucky spellow in the worldbecause I got you. Sometimes I'm afraid
(09:35):
tell me something. I want thisstrike? Are you happy you ask it?
I got to know, yes, sir, I'm sometimes I think maybe
you are ashamed of me? Whatearth? What think you say? Like?
(09:58):
Just I think you don't like ahusband who is just yeah, I

funny hunch you're fronten for somebody.Would I do that? You know?
And I got how funny a hunch? Who it is you have? Yeah,
Terrill, that's very funny. Ithought you'd appreciate it before you laughed
yourself to death. Let's get afew things straight up. Yeah, Let
(11:35):
so first of all, get thisstraight. You're way off base, hardway.
I hardly know a terrior. AlanBeck says that he was in the
game with you and not Tero thenight loss and blow he stopped. He
says, you're not Tera a realchairman, So I think cards with the
terrible. Lots of people didn't realthey learn better. That doesn't mean anything.
You are on his pair of archer. You're calling it. I was
(12:00):
at your turn. I'm not duging. No, hey me off. That's
a new shirt that it'll be ashamedto get blood all over it. Wouldn't,
but I don't know what thinks yousure that's okay, okay, Leaf,
(12:20):
I'll talk. Yeah, yeah,yeah, Hardwick, you're right.
It's a terrorist cache. Thanks Pal, that's all I wanted to love.
(12:50):
Ohone, Oh hello, mister Malone. This is Layman up there. That's
right. I've been reading about you. Well, that's why I want to
see you. Somebody's trying to destroythe little don't worry down. When can
(13:11):
I see you? Oh? Well, my appointment? All right? Well

I want to see you. Arenothing. Ten minute. Thank you,
mister Malone. Goodbye. Oh hello, I didn't hear you come in.
Hey, what's the idea of beforereturning to the amazing mister Malone? A
(14:28):
few words from your announcer, Andnow back to the amazing mister Malone.
Tera said it'd be over in tenminutes. I waited ten minutes. I
waited twenty minutes, when I'd waiteda full thirty minutes and still know a
(14:48):
terror. I looked him up onthe phone book and called him back.
Oh, don't tell me that soundslike Lieutenant Brooks. Don't tell me that
(15:09):
sounds like the amazing. What areyou doing at a terros Brooks? You
know? Look, I'm serious. What do you think? Homicide? Who's
been homicided? How do you likethat? I'm unemployed again? Client prospective?
I can't tell it. No,I just don't know. He didn't
say except something about somebody trying todestroy the legend. I want to talk.
(15:37):
I can't. I got a datewith a man, a curist,
Curtis little Dollar, who ever kepta handmaid? But look, Lieutenant Brooks,
you wanted to see me? Yeah, come on next road? Why
(15:58):
I want you to talk to missus? Sarah? Missus a Tara? Oh,
this is John J. Malone.Hello, Hello, this is a
Tara Malone. Tells me your husbandwanted to engage Hi. You know what
it was about? Yes? What? Well? Some people were going to
write a book about his system ofworking out percentages? Yeah, or mister
(16:23):
Larsen mute Larsen began spreading stories thatmy husband was a chief publishing. People
heard about it, and they didn'tlike it. My husband's threatened to get
hold of mister Larson and give himanother beating another. They'd already had one
fight that I convinced my husband thatfighting wouldn't do any good. I persuaded
him to go to you, misterMalone. I thought they might be able
(16:45):
to sue for definition of character.I'm seeing. Well, thanks missus,
Tara. Oh, we won't botheranymore. Now that's all right. I
want to help in any way Ican. If you can let me find
who kills Jackie Way, well, come on alone, goodbye? Missus out
there on send out a call topick up new Larsens for questioning. You
(17:15):
know, Brooks says. One thingthat puzzles me, WhatsApp alone? When
a terror said destroy? What didhe mean by a defamation or murder?
Maggie? I thought I told youI'm out. Oh well, well I
(17:37):
just came in. Tell him Isee him right away. I already did.
That's what I call efficiency. Toshow my appreciation. You get a
raise effective tomorrow morning, but firstyou get choked to death effective tonight.
Come in, Larson, Oh Malone, I gotta talk to you. Oh,
(18:02):
everybody knows I didn't like a tiroI figured him for a crook,
and I said, so he murdered. I'm a natural. When the law
starts looking to assess Jack any bythe radio, the law he is looking
for him Jack, I didn't killa hero. That's why I don't check
not dead, Well check on it. Maybe I will. There are plenty
a lot of people who could havedone the job. For example, Hero's
(18:23):
wife. His wife, she seemedgenuinely upset by his dead. What would
you expect her to do? Laughatout? It looked like the real thing?
No phony usteric. He used tobe on the stage before he married
it. She's had practice. Whywould she kill him? I had an
idea. She always figured he wasjust a little bit too good for him.
She married him. He had noNow she's got it without him.
(18:45):
I'll make a note of that.Where else do we look? You might
try Dick Blaine. Dick Blaine. How did he fit with a taro?
They don't know for sure. Latelyhe's been hanging around without here all a
lot. You ought to be ableto sing something. All right, I'll
try him too. You'll probably findhim Moki's taving. He usually hangs out
around there. We'll see what youcan find out William alone. It'll help
you defend me. Who says I'mgetta defender? What do you think I
(19:07):
gave you old reads, Paul,I've been wondering. Look, Malone,
do you want the case or don'tyou? ATTERO was going to engage me
against you, but he never gotaround of it. No, I suppose
I'm free to take you on.I'll think it over. We'll check on
blame and read it O TiO.It may help you make up your mind.
I'll do that. I'll then ifI'm picked up, there'll be that
(19:27):
much ahead. If you're picked up, you gotta give yourself up. No
thanks, I thought you want tomeet a defender. Not on most tone.
I don't be a jer I'm nottaking any chances. I want to
see what you find out. First, get Lieutenant Brooks on the phone,
Maggie, have a nice chap withthe lieutenant alone, but don't expect me
(19:48):
to wait. Come back here,Lass and think I'm crazy putting on a
good imitation. Now listen to me. I'm don't get to stay here.
And this gun is telling you.I'll give the orders and it'll relieves you
of any responsibility of letting me go, so maybe you'll still do what I
asked along along? All right, mister, well what will it be?
(20:14):
Nothing things? I'm not drinking today. I'm just looking for somebody. Ah,
how do you like that? Notdrinking? And he takes up space
at the bar or what? It'snot crowded, right, jar buddy,
it's deserted as a poor relative schuneraland Friday afternoon too place ought to be
jumping. You know, I gota theory now, Martin? Who told
(20:34):
you my name? Nobody? Ididn't think so it's not Martin. Oh
well, Joe just playing Joe?How do you do? Joe? Not
bad now? Like I was saying, I got a theory. Sorry,
I haven't timed the theory today,Joe, How do you like that?
I gotta listen to other people's struggles, their ideas that pull up the philosophy.
But has anybody got time to listento me? No? There are
(20:56):
only three people in here? Isone of them big blamed by any camp.
I don't want drinks, you don'twant conversation, But I got to
answer a question. Will two fishmake it any easier on you? Bry
me? That's Blaine just going outthe door. Thanks, Joe, I'll
be seeing it. Hey Blaine?Wait, oh brother, huh, just
(21:30):
fine, But what happened? It'sfun of the tummy gun looking out of
that cars. I went by andI was looking your way, so I
tackled you. If I hadn't yourname and be signed on that that dotted
line of bullet holes in the buildingbehind hole, well well thanks, all
right, all right up, Gay, I want to talk to you,
(21:51):
so let's go somewhere where we cantalk before your friends decide to do a
repeat. Blaine wanted to go backto the bar. We needed a drink,
but I figured we'd better get outof that neighborhood past. I took
into my car and we started off. Have you any idea who it was
(22:14):
that sprayed? Led it to?Just now? The anful George Hardwick?
Why is it? Bookie didn't wantto handle a tero's bits or terror?
It made me affront for him.Hardwick found out so or enough to want
to kill him, enough to threata terror. I knew about it,
so he could have wanted to shutme up right, It's worth looking at
it. By the way, diddid ar Terror know hard Wicke had found
(22:37):
out I don't know. I hadn'tseen him since Tuesday noon, and that
was before Hardwid been cut on.Wow, it looks like I visited a
hard wicket in order. I'll callit Tenor Brooks to meet us said,
as long as Hardwick likes to playwith guns, it might be a good
idea to have the law handy. That's right, Lieutenant. I did threaten
(23:02):
a Taro. I was going togive him his lumps, but I didn't
intend to kill him. Don't tellme it was an accident. Hardwick wasn't
anything as far as I was concerned. I didn't have anything to do with
it. All right, you're witnessMalone. When did you first get the
idea Blaine was funning for a Taroday before yesterday. When I paid off
Blaine, when I added up hiswinnings, it looked way out of line
(23:26):
for his usual time to play,I see. So when Blaine came back
that night, I convinced him toadmit that he was working for a tarl.
Blaine, Y, why did yougo back to Hardwick after you've been
paid off? When I give aTaro was bully gave me another list to
play, So I went and placedto bed for the next day. We
should look. I've answered all thequestions. I'm going to him. You've
(23:49):
got me for making book. Isn'tthat enough? I don't know anything about
the murder, so lay off.Just one thing more, Hardwick? Where
you been this afternoon? Right here, all afternoon, all afternoon? Who's
been here to see it? Nobody? Where's the keys to a car?
I thought you said just one thing, Malone, it's the whole part of
(24:11):
the same thing. Now, whereare the keys to a car in my
pocket? Why? That's the blackcat lack in front of the building.
Isn't that well? What if itis nothing except the radiators warm? The
car's been out? Who could havebeen driving it? If you have the
keys and nobody's been to see it, well, I you better come along
with me, Hardwick, and don'trace. Got a whole squat outside and
(24:32):
they'll swarm all over here at thefirst sound of a shot, So be
careful. You wouldn't want him gettingmud in your carpet, now, would
you come on? I want tocall a lawyer. First, Lieutenant alone
is a lawyer. I've got aclient Brooks lost them. Yeah, I've
better get in touch with him andtell him we're on the home streat.
You bet we are. We've gotHardward from making book attempted murder suspicion of
(24:52):
murder. Oh, let's not overdothings, Brooks that Malone. I hate
to see a fellow make a pickof him, though, cut out the
double talk, molng. Two ofthose charges ought to be enough to hold
Hardwick for a long time. Whynot dropped the third especial murder? Yes,
since you can put the cuffs onthe real murderer. Oh I can't?
Or thanks for telling me? Allright? Where do I put him?
Well, Blaine's waiting patiently? Whynot try him me? Yeah,
(25:17):
that's right, Blaine. You're theone who killed a Tarol well brocksre you
waiting for it? All right?Malone? I sacked tightway, I stuff
get face? Now? How aboutyou making with explanations? It goes like
this, Today it's Friday. You'reamazing, mister Malone. You know what
(25:40):
day it is? That's on accountof a bartender told me he was beating
about the rotten Friday PM business.I have a fair so did he,
but I didn't wait for it.So today is Friday, yeah, which
means the day before Yesterday was Wednesday, Friday, Thursday, Wednesday. Oh,
what do you know he can count? I didn't play hooky that day.
You know something, Malone, We'regetting absolutely nowhere. We got into
(26:03):
Wednesday, and that's the day Hardwicksaid he paid off Blaine. Yeah,
and Blaine said he gave the moneyto a taro. M But earlier Blaine
had told me he hadn't seen onTero since Tuesday, so I knew he
was lying. He never turned themoney over to a taro. He kept
it for himself and then killed ataro so he wouldn't have to pay Larson
shooting off his mouth about a taro, and Hardwick wiped at him too.
(26:26):
I guess Blaine figured nobody'd be lookinghis wife. That's it brood and Hardwick
tried to wipe out Blaine because hewas afraid Blaine would mention Hardwick's threats to
a taro. But since Hardwick didn'tkill a tarot, what was he worry
about. He wanted to avoid investigation. He knew once the heat was on
him, it would uncover his bookmakingactivities, which is just what happened,
(26:48):
and he should copy him it girl, I'm furnished rife metch you for the
check. No thanks, I'm nota gambling man. Look what I did
to a terr he did all right, I just got himself killed. That's
so even his luck couldn't stop less? Oh why don't all seems to me
he was lucky even then? Howdo you figure that? Haven't you seen
today's paper? Another high cost ofliving item? Beginning tomorrow the price of
(27:11):
funerals goes up. Our terror gotin just under the wire, as that
Pollock Gourden night and now once againback to the Amazing mister Millin. Well,
(27:34):
no doubt about it. A terrorshow was a lucky stiff. Next
week I'll tell you about a stiffwho wasn't so lucky. So why not
pick me up at my office atthe same time, I'll be waiting for
you. Good Night. The AmazingMister Malone is a Grace Gibson production starring
John Soul as John Jay Malin anddirected by Lawrence H. Session. Welcome
(28:04):
back, and once again crime isthwarted by the process of elimination. Now
to listen or comments and feedback. And Joan commented regarding our episode eleven fourteen
of The Old Gold comedy theater havingwonderful crime. She says, my mother
(28:26):
used to like Harold Lloyd when heappeared in silent movies. I thoroughly enjoyed
today's shows. I found it verygood and funny. The show was great
fun. Keep up your wonderful workwith his podcast, and I hope to
be hearing more of this sort ofshow again. Well, thanks so much,
Joan, and I appreciate you're listening, and it's something if you listen
(28:48):
long enough to the show you'll hearmore of. I have to say that
detective comedies were rare in terms ofbeing on the air and being any good,
which was why many of them didn'tmake it very long. We've already
played Leotitus with her All, whichI thought was decent, and also the
(29:11):
Thin Man. Other ones that we'llbe looking at that are very strong,
the comedic mister and Missus North,so that was only in the earlier episodes.
They changed to kind of a melodramaticthing later on. And we're also
(29:32):
we've got a couple of a coupleof three specials, at least one with
a Red Skelton adapting in one ofhis whistling detective movies. To the radio,
of course a comedic. And thenwe have an episode of the w
R Summer Playhouse that I hope toplay one of these years around the start
(29:55):
of baseball season. And of coursewe have radio adaptation of Bob Hope's My
Favorite Brunette. And if I stumbleon anything else, I'd be happy to
consider adding it to the list ofstuff I'd like to play. If you're
aware of any good comedy detective storylineshows, I'd love to hear from you.
(30:22):
And ideally it's got to have somebit of mystery, you know,
can't be all paper paper thin, otherwise we could play the Sam Shovels sketches
from Abbott and Costello and the onelong pan sketches of Fred Allen, which
could actually be pretty fun but couldn'tquite fit on our show. But thanks
(30:47):
so much again for the email. That'll do it for today. Join us
back here on Wednesday, as yourstruly Johnny Doller continues, and join us
next week for another episode of theAustralian version of Them See Mister Malone in
the meantime and send your comments toBox thirteen at Great Detectives dot net.
