Speaker 1 (00:10):
It's thirty three degrees in Jacksonville, twenty degrees in Canterbury,
fifteen in kirk Andrews upon Eden. Key, where is kirk
Andrew's upon Eden.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
It's near Eden.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
There we go fed to Cumbria. Did I google it? Yes?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
I did.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
This is Teel Talk, the official Jacksonville, Jankuars, UK and
Ireland podcast, presented by Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence. Still no relation.
He's Key Rams, sur and Key, how's it going?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Very well? Very well? Thank you Jay. Lots of exciting
things to talk about today.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, especially because since we last spoke, there has been
a certain certain thing that has been clarified, a certain
thing that has been revealed, and this probably is going
to be the earliest possible preview of a specific NFL
game in history. La Rams at the Jacksonville Jaguars Wembley Stadium,
(01:02):
two thirty nineteenth of October twenty twenty five. We'll get
into that in a minute. Key. And in fact, you
know that's not even necessarily the headline the headline of
this whole podcast, because our very special guest on this podcast,
Foyerer Lua Khan, he joins us from Jacksonville. We talked
to Darren as well, the UK Jags fan who went
with Jamie. You remember Jamie our International fan of the
(01:25):
Year to Green Bay for the draft. So Darren may
be the luckiest Jags fan in the UK. He's going
to tell us about the bits that no doubtly Jamie
forgot to tell us because there was just so much
the last time we spoke to him, and so much
news in Duval Dispatch is including summer activities in the UK.
So basically, if you're a Jags fan in the UK
(01:47):
in Ireland, this is a bumper edition specifically for UK
and Irish fans.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Jam Packed, Jay, That's what I'm saying. This is a
good one.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Jam Packed. Should we start with the the thing that
we're looking forward to this episode, Let's.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Go deep on it immediately.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Please, we know now who we know when it's the
team with so many connections to our new regime here
at the Jacksonville Jaguars, it's going to be the La
Rams that the Jags are facing at Wembley Stadium.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
I like this a lot. Do you know what?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
You could have said any of the teams in the NFL,
and I would have gone, I like this because it
means I get to go and watch the Jags play
at Wembley again. But I particularly like we've got new
people coming in to the organization. They have connections with
the La Rams. And when La Rams came up, I thought,
this is good. This is like almost like some sort
(02:47):
of fate connection, and I like that. I think there's
going to be a lot of interesting things happening around
the time. Not even to mention, I think it's going
to be a great match up. I like all of
the connections that are happening.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Yeah, I mean the easiest thing to say is what's
the phrases it? Like you know, teacher versus pupil or
like you know, master versus that becomes the student. That's it.
And that's what could potentially happen in October because obviously,
you know, as I mentioned earlier, there are connections here.
(03:20):
New Jags head coach. His first job in the NFL
Sean mcvagh from the La Rams. He gave that job,
you know, over in California. James Gladstone, of course, his
first job in the NFL was from Lesnie, the general
manager of the La Rams. And you know, obviously James Gladstone,
the Jags new GM literally just moved from l A
(03:43):
a matter of weeks ago, and yeah, in just just
a matter of months they're going to be going to
be facing the La Rams. So this is really a
case of can the Jags get one over on the Rams?
Can Neir Liam Cohen get James Gladstone get one over
on the Rams? Like you know, off the bat essentially,
because it's really early in the season as well.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Oh yes, so this is this is this is the one.
I think it's a really good it's a really good test,
and I think on paper, can they get one over? Absolutely,
they can get one over. I think yeah, it's it's
either way. It's going to be an excellent day. And
it will be nice to see the handshakes at the
end of the game and see who comes out on top.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
I mean, yeah, if you're to a drama, you look
for the who doesn't give us the hand give them
the handshakes, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Oh would you would you be one of those that
goes in and no, well just just avoiding the handshake.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
No, everyone's on good terms, aren't they. I don't think
that's going to be happening in any way. But the
Rams are I think off on the face of it,
they are Super Bowl contenders. So it's really going to
be a brilliant test for the Jacksonville Jaguars. See where
they're at early on in the season, new regime, new players, obviously,
new head coach, new coordinators. Of course, you just need
(05:00):
to look at the Rams. Just look at their their
wide receiver unit right now, just the top two receivers
along with you know, Matt Stafford on the center. Of course,
you've got Pooka and Akua who has been sensational over
his first couple of years in the NFL. A man
called Davonte Adams that you probably have heard of as well.
Key is now with the LA Rams up against Tyson Campbell,
Jaron Jones, Jordan Lewis, and maybe Travis Hunter. Maybe Travis Hun.
(05:24):
I mean, if he is playing cornerback, what a test
that is early on in the in Do you know what, Travis,
He's just gonna be playing every snap on this game
because it's gonna be it's gonna be a tough one.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
But you know what, Jay, I'm glad you mentioned Tyson
Campbell because, oh tas this week obviously a lot of
talk about Tyson Campbell, and I liked hearing Liam Cohen
saying this could be his breakout year. I thought that's
excellent this early on to be saying that sort of thing.
How well is Tyson Campbell playing right now?
Speaker 1 (05:54):
No, man, Yeah, I mean it's always it's always good
to see your head coach say something like that. And
it's interesting as well because this is OTAs. This is
really like basically as early as you can get in
the off season, So you're really trying to make an
impression for your new head coach, aren't you. So Syson
camb will be feeling good about that, But you know,
he's a confident guy. He's never going to be feeling,
(06:15):
you know, like you wouldn't be having a good season.
But we want we want to hear that. We want
to hear that, especially.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yes, especially after a tricky season with injury as well.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
I loved hearing that for him. That was great.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I think that this game the Rams the Jags. I
don't know if I'm biased, but this is like one
of the best Wembley games. I think one of the
best NFL games international NFL games for a while. In
my opinion. This is you know, there's so many NFL
games that are international this year all around the globe,
which is, you know, amazing, But this I just think
(06:48):
I've just got a feeling this is going to be
one of the standout games. You know, even looking I
mentioned a couple of wide receivers there for the La Rams.
But let's not forget now that you know, Travis Hunter
joining Brian Thomas Junior, those two players for the Jags
compared to twelve months ago. Genuine I do believe this
the pull, the excitement, the fever from not only Jags fans,
(07:12):
but from just NFL fans in general that are going
to be going to that game. I think it's going
to be something else just because of those two. I mean,
I'm not I'm not even counting Trevor Awrence in this conversation.
Just Brian Thomas Jr. And to Travis Hunter. That is
going to be there's gonna be so many eyes on
just those two players at Wembley. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Now, isn't that interesting that you've said that, because I'm
actually going to say the same thing about Brian Thomas
Junior that he's gone under the braidars Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Oh well, yeah, yes, And of course I'm going to mention, I.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Mean, look, can we honestly say that considering that I
think that about seventy five percent of every single podcast
we just talk about Brian Thomas jor and how much
how good it is, Yes, of our.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Podcast, yes, absolutely, But generally speaking, actually, since Travis Hunter
joined the organization, Brian Thomas Junior has flown under the
radar a bit and this week OTA is everyone's talking
about Travis Fewer and fewer people are talking about Brian
Thomas Junior. And I'm like, I reckon, Brian Thomas Junior
probably quite enjoys that. But You're absolutely right the pull
(08:19):
and it's such a good move by James Gladstone because
people are talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars and in the
UK people are excited to go and.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
See that game. That's what I'm saying, the game that
everyone's talking about.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Your Absolutely, yeah, I genuinely believe that, like the excitement
is going to be you know, at in London, at
Wembley Stadium, that day is going to be off the scale.
I mean it always is, but I think in this
particular game it's going to be off the scale. And
again we're buyers, we're excited no matter who's playing. But yeah,
it just makes me very excited to see them, you know,
(08:50):
come this October. In our tickets on general sale this Friday,
the thirtieth of May. So that's nine am, all right, Yeah,
Jancus dot Code at UK do I have my alarms?
But tickets are on sale now to Union Jack's members.
There's a link on Jancus dot Code at UK homepage
(09:11):
that'll allow you to get access as a member. And
as I say, general sales starts on Friday, May thirtieth.
You can get your tickets now to see that Jaggs
Rams game at Wembley Stadium. So you don't need to wait.
If you're Union Jack's member, you do not need to wait.
You can get your tickets.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
And I'd suggest it because that that is going to
sell quick.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
I'm just hype, man, I'm just really high. I just
feel like we could talk about this for the whole episode.
To be honest with you, I just think it's going
to be a real great test to see where the
Jags are at.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Early on talking about a great test, yeah right, it's
talking about a great test. Early on Monday night football
Kansas City Chiefs Early October.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, talk about a test.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
It's really exciting because you could look at these lists
in two different ways, and I tend to always see
it as like a positive thing, which is, Ah, it's
tough to have some you know, really difficult you know
matchups early on in the season, because you know what
happens if you are on a losing record, you know,
confidence wanes, and then what happens later on in the
season you're almost coming back, you want to try and
(10:12):
get you know, a winning record early. But I come
at it kind of different, which is, Look, this is tough.
There's no doubt about it. I mean I was just
saying that the LA Rams is one of the tough,
toughest games. I do believe that. But obviously the Chiefs
are that they've won multiple Super Bowls over the last
few years for a reason. But if you are able
to get a victory against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday
(10:33):
night football, do you know who's going to be standing
up and talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars. Everyone?
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Everyone, literally everyone, everyone across the world, every NFL fan
will be talking about it.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Do you know what, Jay, I completely agree with you.
I'm gonna throw something else in there. Monday Night football
against the Cincinnati Bengals couple of seasons ago is where
I think the slump started, right. I think it's going
to be so interesting to see what this team looks like,
(11:05):
regardless of win or loss. I think it's going to
be interesting to see how they handle being under the
microscope the eyes of the world on them for Monday
Night football.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
That I'm more interested in than the actual.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
W or L.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
I think, how will we handle it is more important
because we've been watching the draft, we've been watching OTAs.
This team, this franchise feels different and looks different, and
I'm excited to see what we do on that Monday night.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yeah, But at the same time, you know, I don't
want to come at it and be like, you know,
it's early in the regime, it's just about improvement or whatever,
because I don't think that there's one player, you know,
in that on the I don't think that there's you know,
any coach that is going to be satisfied with mild improvement,
you know.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
No or even I think. I think the attitude is
a big is a big part of it.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Attitude is absolutely a big part of it. But you know,
I kind of think that that is a that that
should be a prerequisite, that should be a that should
be a baseline thing for any NFL team, to be
honest with you, you know, I'm not saying it's easy.
I'm not saying it's easy when you've had difficult seasons,
but when you are early on in the season, especially,
you know you need to keep that attitude right when
(12:21):
you've got a new head coach, when you've got new
coordinators as well, and you know at the same time
you need to And every NFL player knows this as well.
It's not a case of oh, well, you know I
was good two seasons ago, a good three. No, it's
what have you done for me lately? Do you know
what I mean? It's like you need to have every single.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
It's an old Eddie Murphy bit it Yeah, yeah, it's excellent.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Well it's true though, I mean in the NFL, every
every player knows that, every coach that knows that is
that you can only ride on reputations so much. And
I'm not even I'm not saying obviously that any Jags
player is doing this whatsoever. But it's a whole, you know,
holistic thing it's how your how you are on the field,
how you are on the off the field, it's how
you are on the sideline as well, what you bring
to the table. And I think earlier in the season,
(13:05):
I think we're going to see we aren't going to see,
We're going to see a good attitude. I don't have
any doubt about that. Key, I don't have any doubt
about that.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Lawrence in Yeah, Yeah, I just.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Think that it's it's exciting. I love the off season.
I think there's a lot of people I think that
that look at the off season. As you know, there's
obviously no NFL action, and we can yearn for it,
we can look forward to it, we can be excited
to see, you know, our teams on the field. But
at the same time, I think it's great to give
to give ourselves perspective. It's great to look at it
(13:35):
from a long point of view, to be able to think, right, okay,
what can we do better? Because there is time we do.
You know, it's not like the premier league season, or
it's not like you know, football where literally or even
baseball or basketball. There's just so many games, like you know,
all the time with the NFL you have the long
off season which you are able to look and be like, right,
how do I want to be? What do I want
(13:57):
our team to be like? And also let's be hopeful.
You know, I call it like hope season because everyone
is able to be hopeful in the off season. No
matter who you support, everyone still has the same chance
of winning the Super Bowls, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Yeah, this hope season, I have to say, feels more
hopeful than for a few good few years.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
I have to say, yeah, absolutely, all right, So what
has else has happened over the last few weeks. Well,
Gabe Davis, the Jags wide receiver, well, the former Jags
wide receiver. Now I suppose he has been cut since
we last had a conversation. Key Patrick Murta, the Australian
who was on the IPP program, who was on the
podcast what about a year ago? Actually wasn't he He's
(14:38):
no longer with the team. Current tight ends Brenton Strange,
Johnny Munt Hunter, long Sean Bowman. I mean it was
always going to be tough, I think for him to
come back from two really difficult injuries. But I ever,
you know, I've got a lot of hope that hopefully
he can make it in the league, you know, somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Yeah, I wish about all the best one percent. But
let's be honest, that tight Andrew is deep. Yeah, like
that's that's going to be interesting to watch this season.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Lewis ree Sam staying with the team, so yeah, hopefully
we can have a conversation with him maybe before the
season starts. Obviously, we spoke a lot about Travis Hunter
as well in the last podcast, I'll Shock our Excitement,
et cetera, et cetera. He's like all over the news,
(15:27):
like all over the NFL news. You just needed to
turn on like any NFL like programming, and they're talking
about Travis Hunter and what he's been doing. There was
the there was the story about him sitting there, sitting
there next to the woman on the plane he saw
this izm key and the lady was confused why loads
(15:47):
of people were coming up and you know, asking him
for a photo. And in the end she was like,
I'm going to go get like a Travis Hunter Jaggs Jersey.
Now there's also I love I.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Mean, that's that's how that's how a franchise grows, right,
is things like this, that's why I think James Dadstone
is an absolute genius.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
But also we've all been in that situation. I genuine
believe we've all been in that situation where you're like,
that person's famous. I just don't know why loads of
people are going up to that person and asking for
a photo. I just don't know why. I get it
all the.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Time, and I'm like, it's me key off of tal.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Yeah, the podcast where nobody nobody knows your face. But
apart from if you're watch it on YouTube, by the way,
like and subscribe. He was also surprising a kid the
other day. I saw this video where he was walking
in a neighborhood. I presume he was in Florida's just
walking in the neighborhood and there was this kid that
was just, you know, practicing football, and he was like,
he just introduced it. He said hello, and he turned
(16:45):
around and he immediately knew who Travis Hunter was. And
I know he's a big name in college, but I
just think that that really just provides the really is
a good example of like the his star power already
when he's just gone into gone into the league, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
So imagine you go into the league, and you're on
the same team as Brian Thomas Junior, who was like
top five in most areas for as a wide receiver
last season, and everyone's talking about you and fewer people
are talking about Brian Thomas jor that.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
That is the power of this guy.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Also, Jay, did you hear what Jeff Larguman had to
say about him?
Speaker 1 (17:27):
No? Go, what do he say?
Speaker 3 (17:28):
So?
Speaker 2 (17:29):
This is so Jeff.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Largerman has been on the radio for the Jags for
five years, knows the team like as good as anyone
knows the team working in the NFL thirty plus years.
I think it's something like that, Jeff Larguman said. Travis
Hunter is probably the best athlete he's ever encountered in
his long career. Which imagine that that is It's a
(17:54):
crazy sentence, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
It's a crazy sentence. And that's why everyone's excited to
see him. Everyone's excited to see out on the field,
you know. And congratulations as well, because he's he is
now married. Bye congratulations. He married his fiance in Tennessee
a month after becoming the number two overall pick in
the twenty twenty five NFL Draft. So big month for Travis.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Yeah, did you see the wedding present that he got
no what again for his new wife. It was a
really expensive Mercedes and it just it made me think,
I want to get in there with Travis.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
You want to marry Travis, is what you're saying. Yeah,
I'll tell you what. Key, let's say from Foyer Lucon
in a moment. But first and breaking news this morning
is that the event formerly known as the Player Tour
is back a very different format this time around. No
Key Jaguars on the Prow presented by Experience Kissing Me
will be coming to London at the end of June
(18:55):
with an event planned. So it's Saturday, the twenty first
of June at Trailfinders' Sports Club in Ealing kids playing
jag Tag with players on the field, QB challenge, barbecues,
ice cream, face painting, music, autographs, some of for the
whole family to enjoy. It is always amazing when Jaggs
players come over, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Key, Absolutely like the things that we do for the
fans in the UK and Ireland is absolutely superb.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Second to none. I'm going to say it's second to none.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
And the exposure that they get to the players is fantastic.
And as a fan, this is something that I'm looking
forward to doing.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Like, yeah, actually can't wait, man, can't wait.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Would you like to exclusively exclusively reveal two of the
players that have been confirmed so far to go to
Jackers on the Brown?
Speaker 4 (19:47):
I would love to exclusive, exclusively announce that Foyer, luic
On and Lewis Riese Zama are coming over to spend
some time with us.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
It's going to be amazing, amazing. More players going to
be coming as well, that will be confirmed. But I
mean Foyer, Lucan, Lewis Reexammit. I mean, it's just going
to be a fun day, isn't it. I mean that
a fun day speaking to star linebacker and Lewis Rezammit,
who represents the UK so well, doesn't he over in Jacksonville?
And it's such a nice guy. He's appeared on Until
(20:18):
Talk multiple times, doesn't he. So it'll be good to
be good to get Foyer Lucan speak to him in
a moment of course, and Lewis Rezammit, both of them
coming over to London on the twenty first of June.
As I say at trail Finders Sports Club, ealing quick
reminder as well, let's not forget tickets on sale to
Union Jack's members for the game at Wembley Stadium, and
(20:38):
I'm going to keep talking about this. I'm going to
keep talking about this. Jaguars dot co dot UK will
allow you to get access as a member and general
sales starts Friday the thirtieth of May, so you can
get your tickets to go see Jags Rams at Wembley Stadium.
And speaking of Jaguars on the prow, one of the
players coming over Jack star linebacker Foyer Lucon who caught
(21:01):
up with earlier, welcoming to to talk four Luke on
how's it going.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Man, going great?
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Just got off the practice field, a good little day
of practice. Now go and get ready to get study,
go home, take a nap.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Looking forward to the nape. Just straight in your mind.
How's it being back in the Jack's facility.
Speaker 6 (21:22):
That's good, good energy. We got the new coaches and everything.
Who'll being around the rookies, the new players and stuff.
Just trying to write the ship and there's a lot
of good energy around the team right now. So just
trying to take that in towards the rest of off
season going into the regular season.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Well, you mentioned you got you know, a new head
coach there, new DC as well. What's it been like
with you know, new people around in the building.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
It's cool, you know.
Speaker 6 (21:44):
Obviously after last year, we knew that things did not
go the way that we wanted to. So I think
a lot of people are open to, you know, learning
whatever the coaches want, attacking things a little bit from
a different little angle, anything that's going to help but
have a better outcome then last year. But everybody's kind
of stuck on the process right now, trying to get
better in terms of the schemes and what we're learning
so that we can all put it together make it
look good.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Is there anything that you can tell us about Liam
Cohen that you know fans might not know already.
Speaker 6 (22:09):
No, real, real intelligent, real bright and very personable. I
think I like his humor. I like his humor for real,
if you can really understand it.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
So he's good.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Oh that means we're going to love him in the UK.
Oh he's going to go down.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Well, he got that little sad to him for sure.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Look, big news, you are back in the UK and
just a few weeks time, aren't you? For Jaguars on
the prow presented by Experience Kissing Me in London on
the twenty first of June Trail Finders Sports Club in Ealings.
So you're going to be there, Lewis rees zamit is
going to be there as well in the UK's own
Lewis Reexammit. How excited you to be back in the UK?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
I'm excited. I love making a trip over there, spending
some time over there. It's always always fun to see
that culture and that side of things. So I'm excited
to make that trip and then going along with Lewis too.
You know, he can show me around some stuff that
he knows, So I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
I mean, it's going to be a great day as well,
because you know there's going to be something for the
whole family to enjoy. How amazing is it when you
get to go out on the field with you know,
young people that are playing American football, especially when it's
you know, not in the US.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Cool. I like Joe parts for answering question. I like
the energy that they all bring.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
And then when we do the little camp since I
like seeing how the game is growing over there, or
you know, just seeing their eyes when I'm teaching them
stuff and getting their duice up while playing.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
So it's always it's a fun time.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Is there anything that you that you find that you
are like desperate to do whenever you're over in the UK?
Speaker 6 (23:28):
I really I don't think they're playing soccer or y'all football.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Huh, you're gonna miss it. You're good, You've missed it
by like a few weeks.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
I just see I like seeing sporting events, so or
any type of events stuff like that, like action.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
I'll get back over there at some point in time.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
But you've been to any games over here in the UK? Game?
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:46):
How would you compare a Fulham game to like an
NFL game?
Speaker 6 (23:49):
I just like the atmosphere, but they packed it out.
It's like in the middle of the neighborhood. So I
was like, wow, that's so crazy that the support and
fandom they get. That was technically I guess a smaller team,
but you know it's really their team.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
That's really cool.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
I feel like up or down, all the all the
people are going to be right right or die for him,
So I like it.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
I ask every player that I speak to from the
Jacks their opinion on the British food. I'm going to
ask you.
Speaker 6 (24:17):
Shoot, I like, I know what I like to eat,
so I just think that.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
I just think that whenever you ask someone a question
an opinion about something and then there's that little pause,
I feel like, you know, that just says it.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
But I know that I know that even my dad.
Speaker 6 (24:30):
You know, my dad's from Ideeria, so he got a
lot of people up there in London and stuff. So
even he he you don't like the food, so like
going into it. I know that people not from there,
you know the food.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Is a little off.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
But every time I'm there, I find what I like
to eat, So I never had a problem with the
restaurants I've been to.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Okay, that's that's what we want to hear, that's what
we want to You are back over in the autumn
as well. Of course it's October. Jack's going to be
playing the l A Rams. What was your reaction when
the ram and now.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
I'm happy that you got to come over and play us.
Speaker 6 (25:02):
I feel like that's kind of a home away from home,
so you know, I kind of felt like you got
in an advantage of being made that made the trip
the past couple of years for me. Yeah, I know
it would be a fun game. I though the Rams
are always fun to play. I'm just excited to play them.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yeah, do you remember your first time playing the game
over here for the Jacks for the Jazz.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Yeah, mm hmm against the Falcons.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Maybe it was against the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I was my old team.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Now, Oh yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Yeah, yeah, we won.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
So what happened was I came the year before for
the Falcons and that was so interesting. I forgot to sleep,
so I was running on fumes and stuff. We won
against the Jets that game, but I was tired. Uh
So the next time we came over, I was better.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
You sort of planned it out a little bit more,
a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Much better. Trip had a good game that game.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
I want to just like bring us back about a
month as well, because obviously the Jacks were so like that.
The story of the NFL Draft as well, you know,
in the in the in the first round. You know,
when did you watch the draft? Did you have like
an initial reaction when Travis Hunt was drafted?
Speaker 3 (26:09):
I do watch the draft. Yeah, I was happy. I
was happy. You know.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
I know, he's a good kid actually from that from Georgia,
so I knew him in high school a little bit
during COVID we actually trained somewhere in the same gym,
so I've seen him around. I've really interacted with him
that much by seeing like he's a humble kid, good
work ethic and stuff.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Obviously he's blown up since then. It is excited about
the talent that we're bringing to the team.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
Really, and then I know our coaches have the most
confidence him in him, and I have the most confidence.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
In our coaches to make sure he's implemented the right way.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
So you know, anytime you get a good talented kid
around and he's going to be used the right way.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Uh, you know, this guy has a limit. So I'm
excited for him.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
I think that, you know, looking forward to what's going
on next month, looking forward to the Jags coming in
in a few months time against the Rams as well.
Why should people in the UK become fans of the
Jag if they aren't already.
Speaker 6 (27:01):
You're embracing them as our home away from home, and
we're over there a lot at the time, So I
would you know, root for the team that's going to
at least be playing there every year. We embrace the
trip when we love the city every time we go
over there, so we feel like, you know, in terms
of the international games that are home away from home,
we're embracing it. So any fandom that wants to come
out and be our fans, we're gonna love you like
(27:22):
we do the Fancier and duvall.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Foy as well. You're a big, a big soccer fan,
what football as we would say on you know, this
side of the pond. So tell me about your your history.
You played a little bit when you were younger.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
Yeah, I played a lot of bit. I played kind
of year round growing up. I remember preschool all the
way till through eighth grade, traveled all around the country.
Our team was ranked in the nation and all that.
So kind of hard to believe it. I was a skinny,
skinny little kid, played a lot of sports. But Tacker
was the first board and my dad loved it. So
we're playing every went to a couple like national camps
(27:56):
and all that US identification camp and all that.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
But I think I just played a lot.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
They morphed in the club teams after eighth grade, and
I just grew up playing so many sports that said
I can only play.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Soccer, and I was not about that. I like playing everything.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
So a lot of my friends playing football. My brother
before me had moved to football in high school, so
I kind of followed their path and uh for not
to be the right path for me.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Yeah, I mean, what position did you play when you
played soccer?
Speaker 3 (28:22):
When I was really into it?
Speaker 6 (28:23):
So like, because I played so many sports, like you
can't you know, practice year round, but I was on
the team doing everything. I started out midfield, was a striker,
and then kind of by middle school I was defender.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Just used my athleticism in my body positioning and stuff.
Speaker 6 (28:37):
But you know, you don't have as many united technically
sound as a as a midfielder when you're defender. But
I was still like more athletic and stuff. But yeah,
we were really good. We were traveling everywhere, playing everywhere,
winning all the time.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
It was fun.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Is it like, is it like another another branch of
history where for a little and could be playing soccer
right now?
Speaker 6 (28:58):
I mean I feel like if I really focus, I
mean it's it's hard. Could every time I start talking
about this sport, nobody believes me. But yeah, going around
the guys I grew up around, you told them I
played soccer.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
They understand it for sure.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Is there a team that you supported or is there
like someone.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
That that was my favorite player growing up? That was
back when Wayne Rooney was on what Manchester United and
the os and you know, you know what I'm talking.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
About, Skulls.
Speaker 6 (29:23):
You just say yeah, yeah, of course, yeah, I said
young team.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Real Ferdinand played for man United.
Speaker 6 (29:32):
Paul, Yeah, yeah, that team Cole actually Cole Yeah, dude,
I'm telling you now, I was like that.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
It was real big in soccer.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Ye're just naming like every English player. So it makes
me think that you've been following the England.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Team, you know, that's what I'm naming it. You though,
that was.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Okay, okay, well we could go through the Nigerian team
if you want as well.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
You know that was my dad. Look, I wasn't watching
them like that.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Do you watch the US team as well back in
the day.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah, we here, Kobe Jones.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
It's nice to hear as well, when you know, sometimes
you kind of think that, you know, the US has
American football, We've got football, you know, but when you're here,
I mean, like, you know, I'm doing my bit being
into you know, American football. But it's great to hear
when you know professional athletes over in the US follow
soccer a lot, especially you know when growing up. So yeah,
So if I were to say, for now, as a
Liverpool fan myself, can you be an honorary Liverpool.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Fan allegiance to somebody there.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
You've got to be fullham, I guess it's got to
be full of got to it's got to be yeah, yeah,
thank you so much, man, I appreciate that for sure.
What a nice guy, Key, what a nice guy.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
It's so lovely of him to put the playbook down
long enough to come and chat to you.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Oh I forgot, Yeah, he's what. You've had this conversation
with him before, aren't you?
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Constantly when he was over here last year, every spare
moment had was studying the playbook. Unbelievable commitment to his role.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
Well, and remember you can you can meet the man.
You can meet the man. Key. Jaguars on the prow
Coming to London, presented by Experience Kissing Me, Saturday twenty
first of June at Trailfinders Sports Club in Ealings. So
much going on and of course the two players that
are confirmed so far ful Lucon and Lewis Reese zammit
(31:26):
Key do you know what.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
If it was just those two, how excellent would that be?
Speaker 4 (31:30):
But the fact that there's another player to yet be
announced even better, Like, let's all.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Go, let's all go. We've heard a few of the
names bendeddabout, haven't we, Key the person person. I think
it's going to be big, There's no doubt about it.
It's going to be fun, It's going to be an
amazing day. And there is a link to sign up
over at Jaguars dot co dot uk right now, but
we'll give you all the details and in able you
(31:55):
to get tickets to the event. So in the last
couple of episodes, we spoke to Jamie Phillips are International
Fan of the Year. We announced him on the podcast
that he was going to the NFL Draft. We spoke
to him when he came back. He had an excellent time,
despite both me and Key making it extremely clear about
our availability to my calendar. Yeah yeah, Jamie just sort
(32:19):
of signed that that a little bit and decided to
take his mate Darren with him. So how did that happen?
Who is Darren? Who is Darren? And what has he
got that we.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Have not Darren Abbott?
Speaker 4 (32:31):
My question to you is this week's big question. What
juicy gossip have you got on Jamie Phillips that he
chose you to go to Green Bay with him?
Speaker 5 (32:41):
Please, I wouldn't want to say anything. It's probably the
T shirts.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Oh yes, ah my, can you describe the T shirt
to us?
Speaker 5 (32:50):
Well, it's not the most flash picture of Jamie. We
managed his Facebook page. If you shouldn't have wanted to
you put things on Facebook.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
So it's a big photo of Jamie, isn't it taking up?
I'm gonna going to be conservative and say about two
thirds of the whole T shirt and then says Jacks
Jague is International Fan of the Year twenty twenty five, Darren,
Were you wearing that at the draft?
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Then there is actually a photo circling around and circulating
where I actually have my photo taken with the commissioner
Roger Goodell.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Oh my goodness, Jamie's seen this photo, right yest. And
what was his reaction to that?
Speaker 5 (33:31):
I think it was a little shocked that while he
was on the stage, Roger Goodell came down he was
making his draft pick. There I was having my photo
taken with him.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
So Jamie has sort of had a photo with Roger
Goodell his face hats anyway. Yeah, can you give us
your highlight of your draft experience, Darren, because obviously Jamie's
given giving us hiss.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
It was it was the whole friendliness we got over there,
and it was the English accent. Everybody was shouting Duval
to us. We were responding by I think by the
Friday evening Jamie had lost his voice. I certainly had,
But it was just the fact that everybody was shouting
(34:15):
Duval when obviously it was English. Everybody was coming up
to us and talking to us. Photographs taken, the number
of people that come we have your photos with you.
We actually made the Green Bay Times pull out supplement. Mean,
Jamie actually in that in our jag shirt, so we
(34:36):
made it quite an impression. So it was the overall friendliness.
Everybody in Green Bay was wonderful to us. It really
was a fantastic experience. The draft was wonderful, but it
was that experience of going to what I would call
probably the real America rather than.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
A big city and somewhere that you know you you
I don't know if you've been there before or Darren,
but you might not have ever anticipated going to to
be fair until.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
I actually got on the plane that Tuesday morning. I'd
actually never left the country.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
Wow, this was your first trip abroad and you got
to go to the draft.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Yeah. Jamie sent me a message saying, have you got
a passport? I sent you one back saying no, I
haven't had a passport at that time.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
So you had to rush to get apart because it
wasn't that long notice, was there. I know passports can
sometimes take a little while to get so you must
have been in a rush to make sure that you
can actually go.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
Well, first of all, he sent the message. I just
said to my wife, I think I might be going
to America, and she's just up there laughing at me.
So it's a case of rushing off to ASDA, the
nearest place, and get a photo taken.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
To do passports now Mars it's.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Sold on electronically where you they email you the photo.
It's sold on electronically and thankfully, but this was on
the Saturday. By the following Saturay, I've got the passport
on my und It was nerve wracking to start with.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
I'd be threatening that it wouldn't come in time or whatever,
but I mean, you managed to get there. What an
experience to go to your first you know, NFL event
over in the US, your first, your first trip abroad.
I mean, what a what a bucket list thing to
tick off, Daran, It was.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
An experience another lifetime. Of course, it will never happen again.
I'm not sure why Jamie really picked me. I will
always be for in his debt for it. But we
had a fantastic time. And I think one of the
comments Vicky's wife did make, and this is going to
make you chuckle, she did say, why are you taking
(36:46):
Darren is a good bit older than you. We won't
mention about the nights. When we got back to the hotel,
he was knacking and he went off to bed and
we stayed. I stayed in the bar with the rest
of them. Gave me Jamie it was a lightweight.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Oh that's funny, that's that's fine. You did you manage
to meet up with a load of other Jags fans.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
Then there weren't actually that many Jags fans in attendance.
I think that's why we, me and Jamie stood out,
and we've got a lot of the shouts to do
val there's majority of Green Bay packers. Of course, but
I think with me and Jamie and we did make
the effort that were wearing the jag skiers all the
time to show people that Jags were represented.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
Absolutely, Daran, Can you tell us how you first got
into being a Jags fan?
Speaker 5 (37:35):
Twenty sixteen. I had a friend whose son wanted to
go to watch an NFL game. I was getting fed
up with Premier League football after being a season ticket
older a team that wears red for several years, and
I just managed to get tickets. We got on the train,
(37:55):
went down to London, me being never I've never actually
watched a game before division anything. So in the Premier League,
the home teams or was listed first, so of course
I picked the Jacksonville Jag. You was thinking I was
picking the home awaiting.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Do you thought you were going with the underdog or something?
Speaker 5 (38:14):
And we beat the Colts that day. I can't remember
the exact score, but I know we beat the Colts
and it's grown from there.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
I always think it's quite you know, amazing to think
back to the fact that that was less than ten
years ago. So within the space of ten years, you
went from never watching an NFL game ever, yep, to
go into the NFL Draft in Green Bay.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Yeah, I'm sure there's a lot of people very embarrassed.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Yeah, you're speaking to two of them right now.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
Come on, that's why I just mentioned it.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, Oh incredible. I mean, is there a way that
you could just sort of, you know, sum up your experience.
I suppose in a couple of sentences to I suppose
to make us just feel that tad more envious.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
You should really go it's a fantastic.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Okay, appreciate that. Appreciate you, Darren. Yeah, appreciate that. Thank you. No,
I mean it's it's incredible. And as you say, you
managed to represent the Jags as well and represent the
UK too. So I suppose the last question we can
ask he is, well, what have what have you got? Darren?
What have you got for Jane? We to say thanks?
Speaker 5 (39:23):
I don't know, as I said, I don't know how
I can repay him.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Jamie's been to take the T shirt off for a start, Darren, No,
he loves it.
Speaker 5 (39:32):
Really. I don't know whether you're aware, but I did
organize a trip over to the Nottingham Panthers to the
ice hockey and he walks into the pub and there's
tent well, nine of us all sat there wearing them.
It was a bit of a shock to him, so
he loved it really, especially when it's all sat there
in the arena wearing these T shirts.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
We had to do it, didn't We.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Part of the trip was I was there also to
represent Jamie as the international Fan of the Year for
the Jaguars. I was there to support him and make
his time as moment as a camp and I'm seeing
it that even before he took helf a tanking to
Green Bay, I look at it that we've got to
make his year special and we've got other things planned
for him as the year goes along. We've got to
(40:22):
make him special. It's a really nice guy. He's supporting
me after my cancer diagnosis last year. He was there
for me, and I know he would have been there
for tracing my wife if she needed him. So he's
a great guy. So I've got to make the year
special for him.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Haven't That's excellent? Man, that's excellent. He couldn't have chosen
anyone better to take with him.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Darren.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
Honestly, thank you very much for the conflent.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Darren. You're not only celebrating the Jags or the Jags
in the UK. But really you're celebrating celebrating the person
as well.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
And I like the fact that it's it's an international
Fan of the Year as well. It's not just for
that one moment, it's a whole it's a whole year. Yeah,
let's celebrate him. You're the first fan that we have
spoken to since the l A. Rams has been announced
the opponent against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
What is your take on that fixture?
Speaker 5 (41:15):
Really looking forward to. I think it's going to be
quite a good match up. I'm really looking forward to seeing,
of course Trummy Sunter. But the one name that came
out of the draft I'm quite looking for is Cayleb Branshaw.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Twu Lane's Kayler Branshaw.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
Let's go Greenway, Darren, you've done it. You've mentioned too Lane.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Well done.
Speaker 5 (41:36):
Sorry, it's just that I watch a bit of the
college football, some pickup, but I think he looks quite
an exciting pickup.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
I really do.
Speaker 5 (41:43):
All the hypes it's going to be about Travis, but
I think he's one of the really going to be
one of the stars.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
I think he comes across really well. I like his attitude.
He's got a bit of sas to him, which is nice.
Speaker 5 (41:57):
Yeah. So I'm just looking forward to it. I've got
my ticket. It's last Monday. I was sat there waiting
for as soon as we could get the tickets. Got
me tickets for Wembley. Really looking forward to I think
it's gonna be a fantastic match up. Really good day
out in London again and once again we'll have one
or two surprises for Jamie.
Speaker 4 (42:15):
Yes, you absolutely so, Darren, Like I'm looking at your
background and I'm very interested. For those that are watching
on YouTube, you can see it. But for those that
can't see it, Darren, can you talk us through what's
going on on your wall please?
Speaker 5 (42:33):
Well, Jamie Phillips very kindly got me into the game
one jerseys. The black one is Keel and Cole from
the Washington Commanders. Now and the fascination with match worn
then grew. Luckily, then we've got.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
The they're sealed right, yes, okay, then.
Speaker 5 (42:59):
Of course the one is a Josh Allen Who's You've
got to have one of the Josh Allen's if you
can get one card and it's a lovely one with
the Captain's patch managed to get that and at the
open practice last year he very kindly signed it and
there's a little photo of him signing it in the frame.
And so of course you've got to have one of
(43:20):
each caller them, haven't you to display a teal, white
and black? And the tier one is actually James Robinson's
last ever game for the Jaguars. So wow, that is
quite a surprise possession because I thought James Robinson was a
fantastic player picked up as a undrafted free agent, fantastic servant.
(43:41):
Shame that's what's happened to him. But much of my
own wife's annoyance. There is a storage from over there
with another twenty eight game on Jerseys.
Speaker 4 (43:51):
Oh wow, just to be clear, Jerseys than Wall Space.
Speaker 5 (43:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
I was thinking you've got three behind you, and I
was thinking I'm pretty jealous about that. You've got twenty
eight others? Oh my goodness, do you rotate them?
Speaker 5 (44:07):
No? No, were about those frames. I've got to get.
I've got a nice logan cook one with.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
The So yeah, who else have you got or are
they all Andrew Wingers?
Speaker 5 (44:17):
And unfortunately I haven't gotten Andrew Winger. We've got Jamie one.
The other week we mnaged to get Jamie one as
a little pressy for International Family the Year, and Logan Cock.
Oh I can't remember them all now, got a couple
of loads.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
You know, you've got a lot when you just don't
know who you've got, you know.
Speaker 5 (44:33):
And another one that I've got to get framed up.
We managed to get one of the Color Rush they
one of those, so I'm quite it's quite a nice
little collection. But my wife blames Jamie for me spending
all my money on the jerseys.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
Darren, that's so good, as I say, thank you so
much for joining till your talk.
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Thank you very much. I'll catch up with you in Wembley.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
Yeah, for sure. Cheers Darren, thank you very much. Chose.
I think it's key. I get it now, I get it.
I get why Jamie chose Darren instead of us. I
understand I would.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Much rather go to Green Bay with Darren than you. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:12):
Well, well you could have put it a different way
by feelings slightly, I suppose, but you know it's but still,
I mean, you know, it sounds like it sounds like
