Speaker 1 (00:17):
Welcome in jazz A. I'm on Tainanie Stevens, Katy Shadwick
in for us and for Brian Sexton. John osers with
me as well to continue your training camp coverage of
Jaguars finally playing a preseason game last week and they're
working towards their second one against the Saints this weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Let's start out with some of our big things brought
to you by g e H.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Government Employees Health Association benefits for federal employees and retirees.
So we're gonna start out with mental Obviously, there were
a lot of mental mistakes in their first preseason matchup
against the Steelers, and that's something Liam Cohen really focused
on practice at London.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Alignment assignment, getting our cleats in the ground when.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
We have a call.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
On both sides of the ball, you know, fundamentals. We
did a forty play alignment assignment period of just getting
the call, getting our cleats in the ground, making loud
guttural communication, getting the calls in quickly. That was what
we were really kind of focusing on from an emphasis standpoint. Obviously,

(01:20):
some of these guys are gonna be a little bit soler.
That played a lot of snaps in the game, so
we were trying to really hone in on the mind
got conditioning out of it kind of as well. So
that was kind of the thought of today as your
head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
At practice on Monday got at that time, z Ap.
They went really mentally focused. They weren't they didn't have
all their pads on Monday. They were really trying to get,
you know, some of the stuff that you can avoid
out of the way and just alignments issues like that.
That was mainly the focus for the Monday.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
It was.

Speaker 6 (01:50):
And you know, I'll use emojis a lot when I
text people, John, I know it certainly does.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Kyle, you probably do too. You never want to.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
See this struggle on the field on.

Speaker 6 (01:59):
Defil So it felt like there was a lot of
what's going on on the field on defense, and that
was the whole focus on money. All right, take the
pads off, let's slow things down a little bit, and
you gotta nip that in the bud right now, because
that can fester and grow into miscommunication once the regular
season gets here. John, and I think it was really
smart for Liam Cohen to just settle it down a

(02:20):
little bit and get refocused.

Speaker 7 (02:21):
Yeah, I thought he had a little bit of a
tone on Monday of Okay, we can get lined up.
We're gonna line up, and we're gonna line up again.
We're gonna line up again until you guys get it right.
And that may be a little extreme, but I thought
it had a feel of that.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
You know.

Speaker 7 (02:35):
The the cleats in the ground was something that Anthony
Campanelli talked about as well. If it didn't happen, then
they're gonna make darn sure it does happen. So I
thought it was interesting that, you know, I really like
how Liam Cohen is approaching his availability with the media,
meaning he's very transparent. I think it shows you he's

(02:59):
probably that way with the players, and if he sees
something needs to be addressed, he's going to address it.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Forgett to say absolutely, it's refreshing. I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Second big thing physical now, just because they were more
mentally focused on Monday, on Tuesday, they went back to
physicality and probably one of the most physical practices we've
seen so far in training him getting after it.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
We got our first fistfight a little bit as well.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
But coach camp talked also yesterday about not wasting their
time and utilizing it.

Speaker 8 (03:25):
The beautiful part of football is you always got to
understand times the enemy. You know, time is the enemy.
That's what you're working again, So every walk through, every meeting,
if you're not paying attention, if you're not dialed in
on all your reps, you know, your opportunities out there,
however many they may be, You've got to make them count,
you know. And I know that's like cliche. Everybody says, oh,
don't count the reps, make the reps count, but like
there's not enough time to not be locked into what

(03:49):
you're doing. So if you don't do that, you know,
sometimes you're learning on the fly. And I think we'll
learn from that last outing out there on the field.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
John, I know a lot of us panicking maybe is
a strong way of saying it. They're worried about what
they saw on defense in that preseason game. We talked
a little bit about that earlier this week, but also
just taking advantage and utilizing the opportunity. They have a
camp to fix this right away and get back on track.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (04:13):
Look, I mean I've been down playing a little bit,
uh the first series the other night, cause it was
one preseason game and it was in the in the
first preseason game and it was ten plays. But if
it's another preseason game and another preseason game at some point,
you can't say that it's just preseason if it if
it keeps happening. So I think there is some urgency.

(04:35):
There's a reason to panic about it. But from a
coaching standpoint, the reason you have preseason games is so
you can look at him and say, Okay, what it
needs to get fixed, Well, you know, get the cleats
in the ground, let's get going, Let's make sure they
understand the urgency of this, and uh.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Let's move on and get that fixed.

Speaker 7 (04:49):
So I that's been the tone, and I think both
of these guys campany lanco and have uh expressed that.
I I'd be surprised if there's a whole lot of
this on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
All right, it's been a focus all week John, And yeah,
he's right.

Speaker 6 (05:03):
Though the clock is ticking, there's only two more preseason
games left, most likely, and just a guess here, the
starters might not play in the last one since they
have the practice against the Dolphins, so time is limited,
especially for the guys they feel like are frontline starting
players to get their act together and be physical and
put good reps on tape. So it's coming quick week

(05:25):
ones right around the corner, sure is.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Let's do our final big thing, which is depth. Tyson Campbell, cornerback,
has not practiced. He did not practice on Monday, did
not practice on Tuesday. He's dealing with an injury that
hasn't been disclosed at this point.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
But how concerned are you about the secondary at this point?

Speaker 4 (05:39):
JP?

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Obviously Montereg Brown is going to miss the rest of
training camp he has an injury. At Travis Hunter obviously
plays on both sides of the ball. We haven't seen
him play every single down on defense, so is that
something we could see more of him on defense now
because of the need.

Speaker 6 (05:52):
It seems like that Caleb Bransaw too has been out
a little bit as well, the rookie that they liked
they were going to count on a little bit at
some point on the in the secondary.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
But yeah, earlier in the week we.

Speaker 6 (06:02):
Saw Travis Hunter play all defense. That was back on Tuesday,
So is that an everyday occurrence moving ahead?

Speaker 5 (06:10):
Don't know about that.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
Maybe it just worked out for Travis Hunter on that day,
but maybe he does I don't know.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
If it'll, that's the question. John. I don't know if he'll.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Just what they're doing with Travis, because what they're doing
with Travis Hunter is its own thing no matter what
happens on either side of the ball at those positions.
I think they want to stay on track with Travis
as much as they can.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
Yeah, I don't think he drafted Travis Hunter with the
idea that you were going to have an injury in
camp dictate his playing time because with Travis you're not
only worried about like what's happening today and in week one.
You want him to develop over the course of his
career or the short term. As far as depth your debt,

(06:50):
I mean, you are deep until you're not deep. Well,
I think they started out deep and now that they
have two guys out, they're not as deep.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
So that's basic math.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
But I do think you want to make sure Tyson
whatever is going on now doesn't linger, because he's had
linger stuff the last two years.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
You don't want that.

Speaker 7 (07:11):
I think they're okay for now in the secondary because
of Travis Hunter. But if there's one more to frontline
guy than their shallow.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
They are pluses and minuses. We appreciate the math.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
John, stay with this year on jags Am, We're gonna
go over some names you need to know from training
camp this week. Welcome back to jag z Am today,
presents to you by Jet Home Loans, also brought to
you by Field's Auto Groups he Fields First, Jacksonville's premier
luxury auto group at Field Aotto dot Com.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Welcome you back in today.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
A little bit of a break from practice, but we've
been out there every single day, so I feel like
today we're gonna go over some names that you need
to know from practice. Some are new people, some are
people you already know but maybe in a different role,
or somebody that's just gonna be really important to this roster.
And we need to talk about it a little bit
because I feel like there's tons of new faces, new names.
This is gonna look a lot different than last year.
And if people aren't at training camp every day, which

(08:05):
most of you aren't, you do want to know some
of these people.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
So John, when you're thinking.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
About someone not necessarily new, but someone that might have
a different role this year.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Well there's a lot.

Speaker 7 (08:14):
I mean I almost talked about Dewey wingerd here because
I think he's going to be a really important member
of the secondary and maybe people will tend to write
him off. But I went with Travis etn who is
also not new. But you know, in March and April,
I'm getting questions all the time about trading him, and
it was almost like people wanted to make him an

(08:35):
afterthought because all of a sudden, he's a back coming up.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
On year five.

Speaker 7 (08:39):
He's not an afterthought. He's He's going to be very
important in this offense. And I have gotten the impression
that every time the coaches see him on the field,
they like him a little more. And whatever preconceived notion
there may have been about what he was or wasn't,
he fits what they're trying to do. And in this
in this Liham Cohen offense that emphasizes back, emphasizes versatility,

(09:02):
emphasizes being able to catch the ball out of the backfield. Uh.
You know, Travis has been good around here, really good.
I don't know if he's gonna match his career high rushing,
but I'm betting he's going to match his career high
in terms of being important to.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
The offense and being really really good.

Speaker 7 (09:19):
I think he's gonna have a really good year and
set himself up for a very interesting off season next year,
wherever he may be.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Next that's a good point.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
This is the final year for his rookie deal, so
he'll be up for a new contract, whether here or not.
So you have to imagine that'll be a motivating fact.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
We'll see. I mean, the fans are trying to play trade.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Machine John yesterday.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yesterday was the world.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
He's not going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Not that I've heard, is he No?

Speaker 4 (09:42):
No, I'd be.

Speaker 7 (09:44):
Right now if I'm gonna say he's not gonna be
a trade anywhere on this roster, maybe in running back.
Who knows Traves etn I think they're a lesser team
without him right now?

Speaker 1 (09:54):
I agree, Who is someone a name you need to know?

Speaker 2 (09:58):
According to JP, I was.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
Thinking about Parker Washington because he was fresh on my
mind after practice on Tuesday where he was all over
the field, and you know, I think he kind of
got lost in the headlines of the offseason with Travis
Hunter and Deonny Browner. But outside, I just wanted to
go defense. And we've seen Jordan Lewis this training camp.
Come in here and really I think take over the
attitude of the back end of this defense. Free agent addition,

(10:24):
longtime Dallas cowboy was probably lost in some of the
outside of the spotlight in Dallas a little bit. There's
you know, a lot of headliners down there, but a
really good nickel cornerback and he's coming here and proving it.
I think in training camp so far, with his ability
to get the hands on the football. Almost every day
he's got his hands on it somehow, whether it's a

(10:46):
pass deflection or an interception or a vocal leadership moment.
I mean, he's all over the place on defense. But
especially since we talked about earlier, it's a little thin
right now in the secondary. Some injuries are popping up.
He's a guy you're really gonna rely on in Jordan Lewis.
And that's why, uh, that's the name.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
I think.

Speaker 7 (11:05):
Yeah, I think people tend to always wanna focus on
additions as a reason the team can get better.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Guys on the roster can get better too.

Speaker 7 (11:14):
I think guys like Trayvon Uh, I think there's guys
in this roster are gonna make a big jump. I
he even betjmight. But if you're looking for outside editions
that are gonna make this team better.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
Jordan Lewis is right in there.

Speaker 7 (11:26):
Jordan Lewis, Yame Brown, those two guys tangible ways this
is gonna look different.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (11:32):
I don't know about pro bol, I don't know about
any of that, but I think Jordan Lewis is a
guy who might be the best defensive back on this
team this year.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
I think so.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Obviously, also bring in he's a veteran, he's been in
the league for eight years. He brings in that presence, presence,
and a little bit of what I would say is
it wasn't a lack of leadership, but I felt like
the communication on defense last year was certainly lacking, and
it felt like there wasn't always someone at every level
that could kind of pull it together. And he feels
like that guy in the defensive back room or in
that area of the field that can pull things together sometimes.

Speaker 7 (12:02):
Guys, you know, I'm not a big free agency guy.
I don't necessarily think that you automatically get better through
that because it's hard to fit and you don't know
what you're getting a lot of times, Jordan Lewis is
a guy that when you unwrap the present, you're fired
up about it. Yeah, and then you know, there's always
that president. You put him in the tree, thank you
forget about. He's the one you still like two or

(12:24):
three months later because he's exactly what you want. He's
a pro, he knows how to prepare, he fits, he's
gonna make plays. He's not over the hill. I think
it's gonna be a great free decign.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
And he's not afraid to mix it up with the
other team occasionally too if he needs to. You know,
if he backs it up with a good play, that's
the perfect scenario. But when it matters, he's the guy
that can, I think, be vocal for this football team
and for this defense.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
That's at the tone we love that I went defense
as well.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Mine is Mason Skis because we haven't seen him on
the field yet. He started the we saw him an Ota,
we saw him in those workouts looking good, getting involved
in the off season program, but he hasn't been on
the field yet. And I think that's a group that
we looked at maybe in the off season and said
we really need to see an improvement from there, and
it wasn't a bunch of additions.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
So it's going to have to come within.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Eric Arms said obviously moving back to his natural position
defensive tackle, but he hasn't been on the field recently either,
so that makes even more pressure on Mason Sith when
he comes back. I would love to see him before
the end of the training camp. I don't want to
go in and not have seen him yet. But for me,
that's a name to keep an eye on, because if
he's not back yet and Eric Armstead's also dealing with

(13:36):
an injury, I'm now concerned about that position group.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
A little bit.

Speaker 6 (13:39):
I mean, it feels like to me that he was
one of the talks of the off season, like they
liked him a lot in what he was doing in
the off season program.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
And then now the injury has popped up.

Speaker 6 (13:48):
I could foresee it though maybe in the next week
or so him trying to get back out there. He
would see him on the side right now, and with
Armstead off to the side.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Also, I mean, I'm doing this again, like what.

Speaker 6 (13:59):
Happens at the if it's a tackle at these positions,
if these guys aren't ready, it's a weakness up front
right now, uh, in terms of depth.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
But let's go play it out and see what happens. John,
But I mean he's a guy you gotta have.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
You counted on him. They drafted him high previous regime.
Did gotta see him on the field.

Speaker 7 (14:16):
Yeah, I think they can be okay for a couple
of weeks with Lacey.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Devon.

Speaker 7 (14:23):
Yeah, the new free agent sign that they just brought
in and I'm drawing a blank. But they've got some
pieces there and you can get by it for a
couple of weeks. But if they're gonna be strong on
the interior, to me, Mason Smith is the one defensive
interior guy who has a chance to be a star.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (14:41):
I'm not sure Armstead can be a star anymore. I
think he can be solid, but he's he's in his
eleventh year. I don't know if there's gonna be an
ascension there. Mason Smith has the ability to be a star.
There's certain things on this team you think, okay, they
can be special and really get better fast if this happens.
If the receiver's core is as good as we think, uh,
and it it, Mason Smith makes the interior strong and

(15:03):
special instead of just Ugh. Then all of a sudden
that can mean being a lot better in a hurry.
So he's important coming.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Up after the break, we're gonna talk specifically about the
edge rushers on the team and tell you what's on
the roster right now.

Speaker 7 (15:21):
Check Dan.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Brought to you by dream Finders' Homes.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
For twelve years, dream Finders' Homes have been how to
call themselves the official homebuilder of the Jacksonville Jaguars because
a dreamfinders dot Com for all of the available inventory,
Go Jacks.

Speaker 9 (15:34):
It takes us just coming in and being ourselves every day,
being true to ourselves. As far as we obviously know
it's a physical sport. We all want to come up
here here every physical but at the end of the day,
it's either you're gonna win or you're gonna lose, and
don't nobody want to lose. So coming there with that mindset,
I feel like as far as with our defensive perspective,
we want to be physical, want to stop and run,
and that's our main focus.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Person Ravon Walker, entering his fourth season here already feels
like flies a little bit.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Wow, that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
But just in terms of the defense, obviously we talked
a little bit about the defensive line just before the break,
but the edge rushers, you got Josh Heindalen you've got Trayvon,
you feel good about that. But as we mentioned, I
feel like some about the interior. Will will that affect
how many sacks they have?

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Will that?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
How much will that affect it?

Speaker 5 (16:21):
I mean, I think that usually does.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
If we don't have a push in the middle, makes
it that much tougher for the edge guys to get
home when the quarterback and just sit there in the.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
Pocket might have to move.

Speaker 6 (16:30):
So I think it all runs in tandem. However, they'll
tell you they need to do their own work and
get there too. And even though there have been issues
at times in the interior, Trayvon Walker still gott in
his ten at least the last couple of years, so
I think the arro continues to rise for him.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
Josh Hein Allen is always motivated to step up his
game on the other side.

Speaker 6 (16:53):
And then you add in Ogba, veteran guy who's been
around the league for a minute, and the Duan Smooth
is back in play at defensive end, and you've got
some rotational guys there John behind these two starters.

Speaker 7 (17:05):
I'm a big believer that, look, you have to have
good pass rushers. You have to have very good pass
rus in the NFL. But I think the biggest factor
in pass rush that gets overlooked are you getting into
situations where you know the other team's gonna pass because
how many how many sacks do you get on second three?

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Right?

Speaker 7 (17:27):
So you've got to get in those distant situations and
you've gotta have leads. So I think Trayvon and Josh
can both be thirteen fourteen SAT guys if they're you know,
late game situations, if they're leading, and if they get
a lot pass rush opportunities.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
So I think they're better. With the depth on the edge,
they're better.

Speaker 7 (17:47):
That's why I think the Mason Smith the interior the
line is so important. You've got to be in third
and eight, second and nine situations like that or the
best pass rushers aren't gonna get ten sacks, you know,
if you're not in that, And.

Speaker 6 (18:00):
That means we'll always tell you, hey, we got to
earn the right to go rush the pastor that means
stop the run and get in those situations in those
early downs to make it third of eight because they've
stopped the run twice.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
You don't do that, you really don't have a shot. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:14):
Hall of Famer Dwight Herney told me once he had
his best year rushing the passer on a year where
he had three and a half sacks.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
I said, how in the world could that be.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
It was a year where the Colts couldn't stop the
run and he got in very few pass rushing situations.
He was coming off the ball better, etcetera, etcetera, doing
what he thought he did right better, didn't have opportunities,
So they've got to get That's why, even though fans
think it's a passing league, it is a passing league,
it's a running league if you can't stop the darn run.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
John, I feel like one of our favorite pastimes when
we sit next to each other in the press box
when we travel on the road is always to see
how teams are going to run the complete opposite way
of whatever Trayvon's on, because I feel like his rushing defense,
at least run defense, is one of his, maybe not
as heralded, highlights of his game.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
I think it's.

Speaker 7 (19:01):
He's great there and that's the thing that you can't
take away from him, meaning, no matter what, he's gonna
be good at that. Sack numbers sometimes rise and fall
based on circumstance, being a man against the run is
always there and the team can always rely on that.

(19:22):
It's why he's a very safe player in terms of Okay,
why are they gonna be good? Is he gonna be good?
He's always gonna be big against the run JP because
he's so strong as sets the edge so well well.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Certain the edge, that's what it's all about.

Speaker 6 (19:37):
And he's so stout and strong and long arms and
everything that goes into that process. And it's only gotten
better over time for him too. If that's if that's
the floor, you're doing pretty good and you can build
everything else around that with Trayvon, And it's felt like
he's it feels like he's done that so far.

Speaker 7 (19:55):
Yeah, there were three or four years around here where
like when you'd be watching the game, if there was
a defensive player down and it was forty one, he
tow to hold your breath and please don't let it
be forty one. It's forty four for me now and
forty one, but I don't want to see forty four
go down because overlook him until he's not there, and

(20:18):
then I think fans are really is how important.

Speaker 6 (20:20):
And I like the fact too that he just goes
about his business. He doesn't worry anymore about the draft stuff.
It feels like he says he doesn't. At least, he
just goes and plays his game. He's not worried about
Hutchinson and Detroit and all those things when they were
coming out. He's made his own career and he does
this thing, and he plays in this defense where he
needs to, and I think it's admirable. Actually, he doesn't

(20:42):
worry about all the noise outside. He just goes and works.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
I believe him when he says it. I do.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
We talked a little bit about some of the additions
in the offseason, obviously one Emmanuel Agua coming in, a
veteran Dwan Smoot coming back to town.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Is that enough depth for you?

Speaker 7 (20:57):
How do you feel about edge is four nine well
Gard Deck I think can be a little bit of
a factor there too. They've got some options that we
don't know out of that bunch what the role is
gonna be yet, or even who's gonna be on the
roster out of that bunch, But there's certainly more options,
and you feel like there's least guys who have done it. Look,

(21:20):
you'd always like more. You'd like to have a third
and fourth guy who can get ten sacks. I don't
know if you're gonna have that, but it does feel
like there are more guys who can make an impact,
certainly smooth as a guy. I think you've got two
guys who can affect it no matter what, and then
you've got three more where if you get decent coverage,

(21:41):
who may need one step more than the other two.
But I think it's gonna be a better pass rush
it was last year, as long as they're in circumstances
where they can show it.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
Yeah, And how long is Ogba have been in the
league now? A little bit like he's been around nine
I think, yeah, a long time, So he's got a
lot of time on task here. If he's your rotational guy,
and if he has gas left in the tank, I
think you're a pretty good shit.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
It'll be your ten for him.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
So I feel like, yeah, overall, I'm not overly stressed
about this group, which is exciting because I feel like
usually when we're going to the season, we're like, where's
what's going on?

Speaker 2 (22:13):
Like who's backing them up?

Speaker 1 (22:14):
But I feel a little bit better about this forsom
than I have in the past, So definitely something to
look forward to once the regular season starts and see
what the pattern of.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Switching in and out is going to be.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
I imagine it'll be different than last year, so that's always
a plus as well.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
No hockey line changes this year.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
I know Pete doesn't get to talk about the hockey
line changes any risk.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
On Monday, just loved the line changes.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
No more, I don't think, say but let's we'll tell
you what's coming up the rest of the week after
the break. Jag fans, you want customized Jaguars furniture for
your home, check out zipchare dot com. The brows all
the customizable options. Zipchair is furniture for fans.

Speaker 8 (22:54):
I think it means guys that usually compete. You don't
want guys fighting, you know, all day and reckon the practice.
There's not time for that. But sometimes tempers flare, and
usually that means there's a motion out there. And I
don't think that's a necessarily a bad thing. We don't
want to fight each other all practice, but the guys
are getting heated and competing.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
I think that's that's a good thing.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
And he that practice we saw our first little fight
of training.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
It was like the Notre Dame logo.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Those guys there were squares in helmets.

Speaker 6 (23:24):
Which in helmets, which is the whole different ballpark altogether.
But he's right though, I mean, a little intensity is
not a bad thing. They haven't really had it spill
over yet into something like this, and it was quickly
broken up. Nobody broke a hand or a face, so
all's well.

Speaker 7 (23:40):
Most coaches will tell you it's really a waste of
time to do it. But you don't get to upset
as long as it doesn't spill in. As long as
you're not making sports enter with it, it's fun.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Everybody stayed at practice today, so all worked itself out.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
No media members got in a fight to fight, you.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
Know what, Well, entire that's.

Speaker 7 (24:02):
Usually the problem, so you know it'll be fighting with
the players.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
We got a scrimmage tomorrow. What are you guys hoping
to see out there? I'm just hoping for some more competition.
I think they'll run it similar to what we saw
in the stadium.

Speaker 7 (24:16):
Yeah, it's interesting. I'm not sure I remember too scrimmages
around here that have been called that.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
You know, you know, you have live periods.

Speaker 7 (24:26):
I think that might be something I said for a
couple of years since they started going to this to
the third preseason game. As you get more preseason opportunities
taken away, uh you need something to simulate real game action,
especially when you're in the first year of a coach.
And uh now that Liam needs the reps, but the
team they need to see what this looks like for real.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Uh So it's interesting.

Speaker 7 (24:51):
I'm looking for, you know, contact and for efficiency from
the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
I think would be the two things.

Speaker 6 (24:59):
Alignment, assignment, communication. Those have been the buzzwords this week
for Liam Cohen. They had an earlier in the week,
had the practice where they just had periods focusing on that.
Let's see that, all right, turn it up, pads are
back on to scrimmage.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
Does that translate?

Speaker 6 (25:16):
I think that's a huge question mark for Liam Cohen
and the coaching staff and the players.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
They answer on tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Mistake free football very important. We will be back tomorrow
for our final episode of Jags Am this week, and
we'll also talk a little bit about the Saints preseason
game coming up this weekend.
