of these interviews are just phenomenal. So up, first, I
(01:27):
would love to share my interview with Kellie Tucker. Welcome
to Just Show. My guest Kelli Tucker. Hello, Hello, Oh,
thank you so much for joining me.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
So good just to talk to you. I'm so excited. Yes,
me too, me too.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
I've been looking forward to this because I read your
bio and you have so much going on and so
many exciting new things that are happening. So we're going
to talk all about that. But before we do, I
love to talk about kind of how people get started
in the music industry. But in your case, you came
from a very musical family. So what was it about
(02:04):
coming from a musical family that inspired you to create
music of your own? Because what I love about you
is you have like a voice and a style all
your own, which is a phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
All thank you. I mean yeah, I think anybody that
comes from a musical family, and I know several have
that desire to create something special all of their own,
you know, Like my cousins are very talented in their
(02:34):
own way, and it's it does come into blood. But
you know, there's some people that don't want to be
in music. They're like, eah, I forget it, you know,
I don't want to do any of that. But I
think it was I think it was. Brant was really small,
And I tell this story a lot, but it really
is true. Like when my mom and my aunt were
(02:56):
touring in the eighties, eighties and early nineties, we as kids,
all the cousins would go on tour with him because
we were too small to start school and they wanted
to have us on the road with him. So I mean,
I was I was imprinted with that lifestyle and that
and the and the music very young, and we would
(03:18):
peek out behind the curtain while they would perform, and
then it would bring us out on stage, and you know.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I was just I was like, oh my god, what
is this? You know?
Speaker 5 (03:27):
And as I got older, As I got older, I
was I was really trying to find my path and
what is it that Okay, this is what this is
what they're doing, and that's amazing, But what what can
I do that makes me special? Unique and different. I've
always been wanting to like do my own thing. I'm
(03:49):
just I'm I'm I.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
I have a big.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
Problem probably being not following the you know, the the
wave of the grain or whatever they say, I have
I have to do. I have to do my own things.
So yeah, I just I really love what I'm doing
right now, and it's really fun and it's exciting. But
music being coming for a musical family, it just it
kind of just makes sense. But it really is something
(04:17):
I like, I'm obsessed with doing this, you know, at
this point, right And I live in Vegas right now,
and I've been performing here for a really really long time,
and I just I've grown to love life performing like
really deeply.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Absolutely absolutely. And you know, so many people really love
your music. And you know, you had your latest single
Country Guitar, which is doing so well. Tell us about
this fun one? Did you write this one or tell
us all about it?
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I do. I always want to
like have my own little say in my song, so
you know, they're all personal. But I took a break
from Vegas back in twenty twenty two, and I was
I was just trying to see figure out like what
my next step was. But I knew I wanted to
go back to Nashville, Vita my family, write some songs
(05:05):
and just kind of see where the wind took me.
And one day I just like went outside on her
patio and I just started writing this this little jam
because I'd had this idea of country gatur and this
this idea of like my my my flip fill up lifestyle,
like I'd go from you know, performing in Vegas and
all these beautiful gowns, and then I'd go to Nashville
and I'd write horses. So I had this this lifestyle
(05:28):
that I wanted to talk about, and and that's how
Country Gatur came to life. I just sat on the
patio one day and just wrote it, you know, ye
how it became.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yeah, I's so much fun. Yeah, and it looks like
the music video was a lot of fun. You recently,
you know, you partnered with People Girl the music video,
which is so cool. Come on at first time you
about that? Come on now People?
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Oh my god. I could not believe it when that
that was told me, and that People was going to
premiere at People dot com. And and I mean I
had such a beautiful interview with Trish at People. She's
an amazing person and we just connected really well and
that's how that started. But uh, yeah, it was a
(06:13):
true I mean, it was an honor. I mean, I
I my, you know, this was my first music video
and for them to release it on their platform that
was really really cool. It was really really sweet. And yes,
just speaking of making the video, it was literally the
most fun I've ever had in my life. I'm sure
you can tell. Just like she's using ear the entire time.
(06:34):
And what's really cool is that you know, everything I
do as an independent artist thus far is self funded
and and ideal anything on my own. And the team
that I that I hired and worked with, they were
so cool about my creat division was that was their
ultimate goals to make sure that I was happy and
(06:55):
that all these cool little moments played out the way
they did, from you know, me dressing up as Marilyn
Monroe and Audrey Hepburn to roller skating and the fireworks
and the pink truck. It was just so much fun.
It was. It was a beautiful experience. Like I don't
I tell everybody that was the most fun two days
of shooting I've ever done in my life. So, yeah,
(07:18):
it was great.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
It looked like it, Oh my goodness, it looked like
so much fun. And I just loved the colors, the outfit,
you know, just so many incredible things. None of your
mama even made a cameo in it, too, so it
was so special.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
Yeah. Actually, like, so I've got I've got three projects
I'm releasing, and she's it's. I made it a point
that every music video she is in it, so she
makes an every single one, and uh, I love I
love that that's the case. And what's really cool is
want to make a couple of social media posts and
(07:52):
videos regarding some of the outfits that I'm wearing, because
she a lot of those outfits tore hers from back
in the day, vintage her vintage clothing that she wore,
and they're really really special. And some some of those
dresses I wore in the pageants, and it's yeah, it was.
It was really neat to include some of those those
gowns and those memories in this video that are you know,
(08:14):
immortal now, yes, that made.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
It even more special. Well, that's amazing. It's such a
cool video. I hope everyone checks it out.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
You can find on YouTube to do it, y'all, Yes
you can, yes, do it.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Do it absolutely, Share with your friends, the neighbors, your cousins, everybody.
Speaker 5 (08:30):
Please.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
And you know, I'm so excited about the music video
and the song, but it also then got me excited
and thinking, you know, is there any new music coming
up or maybe hopefully in the near future, maybe an
album or anything in your mind as yet?
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Yeah, oh yeah, I've definitely got things. I got irons
in the fire for sure. There's gonna be another song
released before the end of the year. With a music video,
and then another one next year, and then you know,
who knows where the wind is going to take me,
but I do there's always going to be more music, period.
So yeah, I'm uh, I'm really excited for everybody to
(09:07):
see this, this collective group of music works that I've done,
and I'm excited to share everybody. And it's all super
fun and and has such special meaning to me. And
it's all it's all very mythical, you know, That's how
I could put it it. Yeah, yeah, it's got a
it's just it's just, you know, I think the the
(09:30):
subject matter is really really different that hasn't been discussed before.
So I'm really excited to share it.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
I'm so excited that you are going to put out
some great new music here in the future. I'm we'll
definitely be promoting it once everything comes out, you know,
we will. We'll last it everywhere. That's effort.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Thank you, thank you, Yes, I uh, it's uh, it's
I'm I'm I'm really really grateful all the supports that
I've gotten so far, and it's just been like a
super magical time. Yeah, and just it's so lovely. I
don't even know, like it's it's weird. It's crazy because
you know, you make music, and it's just one small
(10:12):
part of who you are. You know what I'm saying.
You make you can make, you make one song and
it's just like, oh this is this is that one
small part. But being able to like continue to put
up music and people, I really understand who you are.
And I think that's why it was really important to
me to make the video because I go so people
could listen to a song and go, that's cool whatever,
but I really wanted people to get to know my
(10:33):
personality and kind of see what, you know, my ideas
of what this looks like is so yeah. I just
I want people to feel like I'm not untouchable. I'm
your best friend. I'm just another just a gal. I'm
your gal pal. That's that just wants to have fun.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yes you are, Yes you are. And I love it
because you know what's really cool and you can really
show your personality, you know, through social networking sites and
you have like the funniest reels I'm telling you that
I've ever seen. You're just so hilarious, Like the X
one I bout died, it was so funny. It's just
you're curious.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
There's so I don't know.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
I just I have such a funny bone.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Man.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
I just can't take myself seriously in too much. Like
obviously I take my music and my writing and all
that and my my career seriously. But me as a
person as myself, I'm just like, there's too many serious
people out there. I can't. I have to be silly
and goofy and and funny. And that's just that just
makes me feel good. But yes, the videos are pretty funny.
(11:37):
You guys have to check it out. It's my social
media is kind of dumb.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
I love it so so much. I think you still
love you the moment they see it. So your Facebook
page for sure, and also can you please get out
your website as well for people to go and check out.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
Yeah, so it's it's really hard, so be careful. I'm
gonna write it down. It's Calie Tucker dot com. So
b a l I Kelli Tucker. Yeah, yeah, I've got Instagram,
I've got Cooks Talk, I've got Facebook, I got it,
I got it all.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
But yeah, you know, please make sure you go and
check out all of the videos, the hilarious fun videos
that that you know, Kelly does. But also of course
check out the website because you have everything on there
and something I've seen on your website which kind of
got me a little excited and very curious. So I
see like on a boat the boat the boutique tab
that coming soon is like a tree creektur Western vogue.
(12:31):
What is going on? Because I need to know.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
I am so thankful you asked me. No one has
asked me what that's about. Thank you so exciting. So
who wants to Cutchy Couture is my brand as an artist,
and it's also the name of the song, so I
wanted to do why That's why this song was so
important for it to be the first release. So I'm
looking to partner with different designers to create the Country
(12:58):
Guitur clothing line along with a multitude of other things
from beauty products and hair care products and things that
I care a lot about, you know. And so uh,
it's we're we're in the process of the whole trademarking thing,
and we are doing designs and but I think initially
to start, like I've been talking with my team and
(13:21):
what we're going to do is just we're going to
do March. We're going to do country Cotur Merch and
start with that, and and then we're just kind of
kind of build off off of that right now, so
all of it, all of it is like a little
machine with its full wheels, and we keep looking for
more more wheels to put on this machine. But yeah,
it's coming soon, and it's coming.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
I can't wait to be announced. Y'all have to stay too.
I'm so excited about that. When I see that, I'm like,
I can't wait. I'm ready for it.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
I'm I tell you something. Let me tell you something. So, Okay,
there's a video of me that my friend took and
I call it. I called it. I saw my social
media and it's called I call it my car wash outfit.
Did you see that video by chance?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
I think I did?
Speaker 5 (14:05):
Yes, Okay, So it's basically just has the fringe that
I just sent around and I call it my car
wash outice.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
And so I designed that. So that's one of my designs. Yeah,
And I get so many compliments on it, and so
I'm hoping to create really like, you know, becauture looks
and outfits and an affordable post for everybody has one
of the ideas and that's amazing. So yeah, just just
(14:34):
use you guys your little paints of what my thoughts are,
my ideas are.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
So oh I love that outfit too. Wow, that's really
cool that you just Wow, that's very cool, very cool.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Well, I'm looking forward.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
To it and I'll keep my eyes open and I
hope everyone else does the same. But I know, I
do want to mention because fans may also remember you
on this show called The Boys, you were Team Blake,
So I wanted to ask you, what was that experience
like on a show like this, because it seems like
it would be a bit nerve wracking. You were amazing, though,
but for me, I'm like a lot.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
Oh yeah, I know, I wasn't prepared. I wasn't prepared
at all for that show, not even in the slightest it.
I wasn't really performing at the time, and I was
nervous as hell, and I just I wasn't ready for it.
And uh, although I'm super proud I I have, I
mean the most incredible memories of my life being on
the show and the friends that I made. Yes, and honestly,
(15:31):
I had one of the best audition experiences that that
that was almost magical, but that you know, being on
the show was incredible for me, just simply because you know,
after it ended, I used that as a platform to
move to Vegas and start performing my own shows, and
it it got me to where I am at oh
(15:52):
everything to that show. So yeah, it's it was. It
was really cool, but it was nerve wracking. I wasn't prepared.
I think if I had got if I could go now, I.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Would do that. But if you were enjoying it though,
you know, no, I mean we all were.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
Well we're all really secluded into this hotel and couldn't
you know, we're just like fixated on the show and
like our performance, and you know, sometimes you get in
your head too much. You gotta get out of your heads.
But yeah, it was. It was a nerve wrecking experience.
I'm not going to say it wasn't. And I you know,
I still have nerves on certain for certain venues and stuff,
(16:33):
but but not.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Really that's right, right? Is there is there a venue?
Is there a venue that you haven't performed yet that
you would just love to.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
I just saw a video the other day of a
band performing at Red Rocks and it looked all unbelievable.
It looked unbelievable. It's outdoor, and I really don't like
performing out outside. I don't, but that was really beautiful.
I don't know what that's what it's called. But no,
I've never been that person. Honestly, I've performed at the
(17:05):
Adobe Theater. I've performed. I did shows for you know,
south By Southwest, and those those are great. I don't
care if it's honestly a dive bar in the middle
of nowhere or a grand theater in New York City,
I don't I don't care. I just want to perform.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah, it's the far is being able to perform, you know,
for the fans and get to know you know, fans
and stuff and you know, performing country guitur. How well
is that doing, you know for the crowd. I mean,
I'm sure i'd be one of those people that'd be
like screaming all the lyrics back at you. So I'm
sure you're getting a lot of work.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
Can you please come to my shows? Oh it's great.
Before this song was released, I started singing it and
I wouldn't tell people what it was, and they just
they're so I'll just kind of like gauge the reaction
like do they like it or do they not? You know,
are they paying attention are they not? And yeah, some people,
some people not the whole it would say fifty percent
(17:57):
of the time, it would be like that's cool. What
is the you know? But now that people have heard it,
you know, it's really cool to see everybody start singing
the lyrics. It's really neat. It's that's special. That is
very special when they do that. So definitely, you know
what I thought about doing. I need to release a
karaoke track version so people can sing it karaoke. Yes,
(18:20):
I need to.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
That'd be so cute. Say I'm waiting for like people
to like create a dance for it, like a like
a two steps or something.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
I mean thought it makes you want to It's like
it makes you want a jam and vibe. But it's
also I don't know if it is a like, I
don't know what kind of dance you would be to it.
We need a dance expert. So if you're a dance
expert out there and want to come up with a dance,
I'll I'll do the dance and then maybe everybody else
(18:48):
is doing it too. But I I also make fun
of myself dancing on these videos if you guys haven't
checked me out yet. But I'm not a dancer, Like
I went to college and we did jazz and I
love that. I have a lot of it. I have
a jazz background and it's not it doesn't work. It
doesn't work for the music I do. It's kind of funny.
So yeah, so it's hilarious. Want to country catuur.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Someone someone out there, please do it because I think
that would be really really neat. But yeah, you should
definitely do the karaoke thing because I would be like
the first person to do that. I love I'm a
karaoke type person, so I will definitely pull out some
country tour.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
Would that be super everybody to have it. And that's
the way everybody can really learn the lyrics because I
don't know if I'm going to do a lyric video
for this, so but other things can dance can do one,
but I can't.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Love you never know, Yeah, you never never know. You
never know. I love that, And I do want to
ask you some fun questions before we go. I love
I love my fun questions.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
You can ask me anything anything you want.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Perfect, perfect, no it's nothing too crazy open.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
I love it me too, me Jo so fun question
that some fun questions for you. Have you ever had
any embarrassing on stage moments that you can recall, anything
that did not go well live and in person?
Speaker 5 (20:09):
It happened gosh all the time. I just yeah, I mean,
you can know which one to pinpoint. The worst one though,
was when I was I was a kid though, I
was a kid and I wanted to be a part
of this Christmas show so bad at my school, and
I didn't know the lyrics to the song. I wrote
them on my hands. I couldn't see him. I started
making up the lyrics to this song as the track
(20:32):
was playing, and it was awful.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
It was.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
It was the worst I sought. My mom was like,
can you take me home? I couldn't stand the embarrassment
of it all. But no, not since then, I haven't
had anything on stage that was overally embarrassing or I
couldn't recover from. But I mean, yeah, I don't. Like
I said, my shows are so much fun and so
light hearted, and I do not take any any of
(20:57):
it just too seriously, because if you mess up in
that stuff, you hit a wrong note, you hit a
wrong note, but no, they're Yeah, we all just laugh together,
you know for sure.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
That's that's what it's about. I love live music. That's
why I love live music is because you just never know,
you know what could happen. But most of the time,
you know, artists, you know, like yourself, you professionally just
keep going. You just laugh it off and and it
kind of just makes it for a fun show. Really.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Yeah, when you don't, when you go gohous that word,
who cares?
Speaker 4 (21:26):
That's all? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Live you know, right?
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Yeah, this stuff because crazy.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Definitely, I agree.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
And then the next one question for you, and I'm
sure you've never gotten this one before. If you could,
if you could choose any animal in the wild or
not in the wild, what animal, personality wise do you
think will best shirt suit you?
Speaker 4 (21:46):
You?
Speaker 5 (21:48):
Yeah, Corn, Yeah, you still quick on that one.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
I love that You're like, I'm ready for your question.
Don't mess with me.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
When you said animalog like this, I know where this
is going. Let's do it. Yeah, I know. I still
believe that they're real. I'm sorry, I do, me.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Too, I do.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
I believe unicorns are really exist somewhere somewhere they do,
and I'm going to get one one of these things,
so I'll be the first, But yeah, I will. I'm
a mythical creature and I love it roaman people's imaginations.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
I love that. I love that you are still prepared
for this. I swear I'm sure unicorns exist. I've seen.
I've seen YouTube videos. Okay, I know it's non person,
but I've seen, and some people ask me to go
out and find unicorns.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
There was there was a there. There was a couple
back in the seventies that used to breed one horned
white goats and they say that they were all like
from the idea of a unicorn. I'm like, no, no, no,
all that this is this what we got. We got
paintings of it from back in the day.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
There's there.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
They were real. They were real, Yes they were.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I love that. Good, good as good answer. The next
one question I have for you is that if there's
is there an artist out there that you would love
to work with in any genre of music? Is there
that one artist that you would just be like, yes,
I would love to work with them that maybe kind
of you know, same same type of music that you do,
and you'd love to kind of collab with.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
Jeez oh, pis. There's so many I don't even know
where to begin. I mean, obviously, Shania Twain would be
my first pick because he's been an influence all my
life some of the kids, and her music is also
so much fun and it's got so much life to it.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
But then there's artists like I would say, well, third
I blind had a huge influence on me as well.
I love them. I think Stephen Jenkins is a great
writer and I would I would die to write with him.
I think he's insightful and intelligent and beautiful with his words,
say bon Dare von Iver. He's incredible, great writer, producer.
(23:58):
I just yeah, Uh, there's a lot of off brand artists
that people may not know that I would love to
collaborate with. But I mean, uh, there's so I honestly like,
I would love to do a show with Morgan Walland
just because he was on the same season as me
of the Voice and Doll and he does funky, fun music,
(24:21):
I think, just like I do, and I think me
and him will put on a really fun show if
we were together.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
I think show. I think, So who do we guys all,
let's make happen. Come on, somebody to go out there. Yeah,
that would be amazing. I think that would work so
well for sure. I love it and I can't wait
to see what you do next. I'm just so excited
to see your journey. I think you are just an
incredible talent and a beautiful person. So I'm just so
excited to see what is what is next for you.
(24:47):
Thank you so much for joining me.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
Thank you so much for the love and support you've
shown me, and I really appreciate it. And thank you
for being a friend. You're a doll.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Oh any time, anytime.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
We're definitely friends. Now. I'm just saying, just putting it
out there because a big fans. Yeah, thank you here,
just so insensible. Take care. Thank you so so much,
Kelly Tucker, everybody, Thank you guys, anytime, anytime. All Right,
that was a fun interview. I had a good time
chatting with Kelly and getting to know her. And now
(25:19):
my next interview is with the fabulous less Ship. Enjoy.
Please welcome to the Josie Show. My guest Leslie Shi Hi.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
How's it going, Josie?
Speaker 2 (25:29):
All going good?
Speaker 4 (25:30):
How are you I'm doing great. I'm doing great. I'm
at home for a few days before we hit the road. Friday,
we head up to New York for a few shows,
but uh ill spoken in at home for a few days.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Yes, absolutely, being with the family, that's I'm sure. I'm
sure you know. Being on the road is probably you know,
fun stuff that it is pretty nice to be able
to relax as well.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Oh absolutely, yeah, I'm needed more than I give myself sometimes,
but yeah, it's good to be for a change.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Good, good, Well, I'm happy to hear that. And you
you have been very very busy. I do have to
say your shows. You know, your schedule has been very,
very packed, and I've recently seen you actually live. You
performed at the Keith Whitley Memorial show and you were phenomenal.
So growing up, was Keith Whitley like a big influence
on you and your music? Would you say so?
Speaker 4 (26:21):
I'll tell you how that started out for me growing up.
I was a huge, huge Randy Travis band. Randy Travis
was my number one, and I started playing guts. I
started playing guitar my parents' parties they had on the
weekends when I was like fourteen, fifteen, and my dad
and my sister's ex father in law schooled me on
(26:42):
Keith Whitley as I started learning how to play guitar,
and I fell into the rabbit.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Hole hard, yes, right right, absolutely, What's What's Love? And
Randy Travis is amazing as well, So I mean, come on,
you have like the best influences that I think you
could ever have, honestly with you. So I think that's amazing,
and I want to go back a little bit when you.
I love going back with my music artists, when you
first realized you were into music and creating music? How
(27:08):
did this all get started?
Speaker 1 (27:10):
So?
Speaker 4 (27:10):
I started playing cello in middle school and I played
for like four or five years in school, and then
I got into a metal band, like a thrash metal band,
was playing bass and high school in that band, and
moved up to a little town in Wisconsin and my
parents frequented this bar that they had like the football
(27:32):
games at and whatnot. And I started playing guitar in
those bars. And that's kind of how I got started,
was was doing that. And then years later I ended
up hitchhiking and hopping freight trains all over the country
and street performing is where I got most my practice.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Right right, absolutely. I love that. So you've always pretty
much from young young boy, you really have had the
music bug within you. And you've been constantly just going
and doing shows. I noticed, which is awesome. As an entertainer,
you'd have to, you know, get those gigs and you
have to perform. And so I've noticed with you that
you do that a lot, and I think that is
what you know people love about you is you're very
(28:12):
You're very out there. People are able to see what
you do, and I think that's what really works for you,
and I love that. I think more artists I'm really
get out there.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
I think it's such an important thing to to put
yourself out there as much as you can. I mean,
especially in the first few years that you're playing, Like
if you're not playing, nobody can hear you. So I
can't remember who told me that, but it's stuck with
me ever since. So I've flowed down a lot. This year.
I've kind of done the weekend Warrior thing. But those
first few years, I think the first year I played out,
(28:45):
I played like two hundred and sixty something shows that
year wows. But I've got that way back.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Yeah, Oh my goodness, that's crazy. But hey, listen, like
you said, I mean, it gets you out there, gets
you in front of fans, so people are able to
hear your voice. And I have to say this is
very cool because earlier this year, you released an album
Live at Steelhouse with yourself and Jason Evans. Can you
tell us about the recording of this album and the
songs listeners will be able to find on this one?
(29:15):
It's so good?
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Oh oh man, So that that album. Uh, we decided
like two weeks before him, We're like, we're just gonna
come to the studio and uh, we're gonna we're gonna
sit across from each other with some guitars and a
few beers and just tell stories. And that's basically how
how it went down. We got to the studio, we
sat down and Andy Smith, the producer, just hit record
(29:40):
and it was it was basically like hanging out with
my best friend. And you know, I didn't I didn't
plan any of the songs to be on that album.
All of those were the ones that I picked and
the ones that Jason picked. We picked as we were
going along on that album.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Oh that's so cool. So you guys both had like
a little bit of a I'm what you guys put
on that album.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Absolutely that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
So it's kind of like the labor of love for
both of you. And I think I feel like, well,
when Canda first meet Jason Evans, have you always been
princes with them? Or did you meet him like during
the live show.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
I can't recall the exact show that I met him at,
but uh, me and me and Jason uh kind of
had a reputation of being a little a little wild
and outspoken, and uh, I think that's pretty much how
we got put together. Somebody told him they don't know
about West. He's like, well, I got to meet this
(30:34):
guy now, and h we we booked a lot of
shows together that first year we played together, and uh,
he was He's just an awesome friend, good, good person.
Uh He's all about his family and writes killer songs.
That's that's my favorite project that I've put out so far.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Oh that's so cool. I love it. It's so good.
I hope everyone checks it out. It's available on all
the social networking sites, all the social places that you
can find music. But also is there a physical copy
of this as well, I have sixty copies left finally,
and then sometime later this year, I'm going to try
to put out vinyl versions of it. Ooh, that'd be cool.
(31:19):
I love a vinyl.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
Yeah. And and there's there's one difference between the physical
copy and the version that's on all the platforms. We
actually have a ghost song on the end of the
physical copy, like they did back in the eighties. So yeah,
we got a studio version of one of the songs
that Fenton al blues song. I don't know if you've
heard it, see and him put that song out about
(31:41):
a month before that record came out.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Really wow, it's so cool it was. I love I
love how spontaneous it was. But also it is songs
that you don't mean a lot to you bold and
I think it's turned out very very well. Have you
had some really great response from the listeners out there
who heard it were like, hey, guys, this.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
Is absolutely we uh. We we sold about eight hundred
copies before they came out.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
And okay, no, that's just that told you something.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Ye, yeah, because yeah, because we put out physical copies
about a year before I put it out on the
social media platform like it wasn't available anywhere other than
getting it on getting the CD at a show somewhere,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Yeah, definitely, that's amazing. I hope people check it out.
Check it out, y'all. I'm telling you, do it, do it,
do it, do it. Get get yourself a physical copy
first and foremost. But also it is all over the
place so you can get it. Please make sure you
support it live at Steelhouse. Yes, with West Ship and
Jason Evans. You're not gonna want to miss it. And
(32:48):
the cover is pretty cool too.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Oh yeah, shout out to JJ Waters on that one. Yeah,
yet no, JJ does pretty much all of my cover are.
He's a He's an artist out of West Virginia. Absolutely
incredible talent.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
I wish I had that gift. Let me tell you,
it's pretty cool. Abs and yeah, so please make sure
you check it out everyone. And also I want to
talk about your most recent single, I've Been Down. Can
you show your inspiration behind this single?
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Absolutely so? Uh Uh it's an old Hank Hank Williams
junior song. But uh, the guy that co wrote this song,
uh is one of my one of the co writers,
is one of my really good friends. Guy by the
name of Bobby Keel. He wrote that one and Whiskey
on Ice for Hank and Uh. He wrote A Little Need,
a Little Time Off for Bad Behavior for co and Uh.
(33:38):
I got to meet him at a show that I
played in I want to say Indiana. I got there
Billy don Burns, I think, and Uh, him and Billy
were really good friends and that's kind of how we
hit it off. But Uh, I've always wanted to put
out some Hank Junior songs, but I wanted to put
my own twists on. I didn't want to try to
(33:59):
sound like in or you know what I mean. I
didn't want to do absolutely yeah, I didn't. I didn't
want it to sound like like a karaoke cover, if
that makes sense, I hear you.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Yeah, yeah, totally.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
That's my favorite song I put out so far. But uh,
the guy that recorded that is another fella out of
West Virginia named Jack McCord, and he's a He's a
magician at what he does. Man, he's a great songwriter too.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
I love it. I love it, And I wanted to
ask you, are you working on any new music or
are you doing you know, any writing as of right now?
Anything you know in the future that we should keep
our eyes peeled for so I know you.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
Uh you got to see Way Jennings when you were
at the Keith Whitley show. I had three co writes
on the last album that he put out, and uh,
five out of the ten songs he's got on this
new record, me and him co wrote at a hotel
over in Columbus, Ohio about six months ago. And I
got I got another co write coming out with Kreed
Fisher sometime at the end of the year. But oh yeah, yep,
(35:00):
got out to Creep Fishes yep. And we're in the
talks of a bluegrass record. Yeah. I got all the
songs laid out and uh in a date to go
record them. So that's gonna be fun work. We're I'm
taking a twist on a few of my songs. I've
already put out a few covers that uh have kind
of became staples at the shows. It'll be it'll be fun, man,
(35:20):
I'm excited about it.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
Oh, that'll be a lot of fun. That is really cool.
I'm looking forward to it. And once everything is out,
please let us know. We'd love to have you have
you on to talk about it or anything else that
you have, you know, to to talk about. We'd love
to have you back on the show. And I love
that you co write songs on artists that we love
as well.
Speaker 5 (35:37):
Do you like to co write.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Or do you prefer like writing on your own or
a mix of bolts? I mean, which do you prefer?
Speaker 4 (35:43):
So I started out just writing by myself, and when
I started I didn't start writing until I started playing shows.
So like I got, I got off the road, uh,
move into a house with my old manager, and somebody
had told me, they're like, man, you need to write
a book with all with all the stuff that you've
gone through being homeless and uh, going through all the
(36:04):
drugs stuff and whatnot, and uh, man, right, I should
write some of this down. And Uh, that week I
wrote my old Man and front row Seat.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Wow, that's awesome. My old man has so well. I
have to say that's a good song. Everyone loves that one.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Yeah, that's the uh they said, when you get tired
of playing, and that's when you know you got the
right one. I play that one a lot.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Yeah. So you're wearing that one out?
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Oh yeah, I guess people coming after the shows and
you're playing my old man. I said, of course, yes.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Oh it's so funny. Oh I love that. That's really cool.
I'm glad that you, you know, wrote down your feelings and
turned to music because you have gone through a lot
and you know, I don't know if you want to
share you know too much or anything, but you do
have a very interesting story. I think one day you
should write the book.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
It would be a yeah, that would be an awesome thing. Uh. Now,
now that time the song, right, I wouldn't say I
got it down, but I'm figuring it out. I do
have another co write coming out on July twenty fourth
with my buddy Cash Jones, a song we wrote called
the Wagon. We're both performing on it. We just announced
(37:15):
that one like ten minutes before I got on the phone. Call.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Oh that's hilarious. Okay, so it is common exclusive.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Y'all's that one?
Speaker 2 (37:23):
That's awesome. I can't wait. I can't wait to check
that one out as well. I mean, you have a
lot of great songs that are that are coming out,
whether you co write or are also performing on them.
So I really do hope after the show everyone goes
and finds you on social networking sites. I know you're
on Facebook for sure, and that's just under west Ship
right yep.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
And I'm on Twitter or x whatever you want to
call it in Instagram. It's wet underscore underscoreship a.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Dream venue that you would love to perform that you
haven't yet, Do you still have a dream anywhere around
the world?
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Well, the Rhyman would definitely be at the top for me.
Pick a second, though, yeah, because there's there's a few
that I've played that I would love to just go
back to back, get back and name off. But if
I had to pick one that I haven't been to yet,
probably the Machine Shop in Splint, Michigan.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Ooh yeah, that would be awesome iconic.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Oh yeah, that's a historic place right there. But that
caused my number two.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
That would be amazing. I hope they do happen for you.
Anybody listening, contact them, start shooting out numbers, call them.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
I got to uh scratch one off my bucket list
this year. Actually I was going to say the Shed,
but that was ah, that was where I had my
first full band show this year.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
Oh that's if. I love it when you're able to
scratch off a bucket list.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
Oh yeah, especially for first time with my band like
that was? That was That's the kind of stuff dreams
are made of. Man.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Oh yeah, definitely, definitely, And I'm hoping more of those
dreams and more bucket lists. You know, things happen for
you this year, you know. I hope, I hope it
really does, and you definitely deserve it. I love how
you are with the fans. You're very welcome. And before
we go, I do have some fun questions for you.
Are you read here? I just got a feto.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Oh yeah, let's let's go.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
All right, all right, that's too crazy. After the while,
while performing, have you ever had any embarrassing on stage
moments that you can recall something live in a person
that you're like, oh stoop. That was that didn't go
as I planned.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
I went to go sing a George Jones song that
I sang all the time, and it was the last
song of the night. And I was like three shows
in that week, and every time i'd hit the high
note on the chorus for Who's going to fill their Shoes,
I'd squeak like I was fifteen years old. It was
like it was time I come back to course. Oh yeah.
(39:47):
That was probably the most nobody else really noticed it,
but like for me betting up there on stage, it
was like, every time I came back to that chorus,
I was like, man, I hope I don't squeak, and
I did every time.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
That's tough. That's a tough one. I do not play
that one. That's that's a tough song. But I'm i'm
I love how honest you are about it. You're like,
you know what, that just happened, So, oh, what are
you gonna do?
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Mistakes happen on stage? Man, that's a that's something that
people are gonna have to get used to. It's this
is something they want to do.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Definitely, Definitely, that's that's a given. That's some advice right
there for any upcoming artists. Just get ready because which
and I think that's one of the things that I
love about live shows is you just never know what's
going to happen, you know what I mean, and you
just kind of just go with the flow. There's nothing
wrong with it. We're all humans. The next one question
that I have for you, is there any artists any
genre that you would love to work with? Is there
(40:36):
kind of like that dream artist that you would love
to collab with.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
I'd have to say Tracy Lawrence. Tracy Lawrence at this
point would be my number one choice that uh oh,
he's the most consistent nineties country star up I've seen
live to this date. And uh, that's Black Brandy Travis.
I grew up on his stuff and learned how to
play all his music growing up.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Good answer, good answers, that's for sure. And then the
last question that I have for you, which I'm sure
is a weird one that you've never been asked, but hey,
let's do it. So if you could be, if you
could be any wild animal, or it doesn't even have
to be a wild animal, which animal do you think
best personality wise suits you? What do you think animal
would be?
Speaker 5 (41:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (41:22):
Uh, my girlfriend Brie would probably say an alligator. And
if I had to take an alligator, he'd be that
one off All Dogs go to Heaven. That's singing in
the bottom of that swamp. Yeah, yeah, that's a singing gator.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Singing gator. Hey, I see, I love how quick you
were about that one too. You're like, you know what
I got your question, don't mess with me so good
good answer, good answer, good answer. Why would I had
such a great time chatting with you, and please come
back anytime.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
Okay, absolutely if we're if we're in town for the
Josies off stop and say.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Hey, yes, please do. I would love it. We never
get to like, I never get to like being able
to like talk fully with artists at that show because
it's always so crazy. So it is really nice to
finally get the chance to talk to you. I feel
like I've seen you, but I haven't had a chance
to really talk to you. So it's been nice.
Speaker 4 (42:12):
Well, y'all, y'all do a great job with that show.
I remember the first time I went when y'all had
it at the Opera the first time and we had
a blast.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Say oh good, I'm glad, Thank you so much, and yes,
please coming by if you can, if you have the opportunity.
We'd love to see you again. And I'd love to
have you back here on the Josie Show anytime.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
And thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you man,
thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (42:34):

moment that you hear their music. I promise you that.
