(01:37):
with Grace Humphries.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Hello, Hi, thank you so much for joining me. Thank
you for having me my pleasure.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
So I have been really looking forward to talking to
you because I love the latest single, why Do You
Give Up? So we're going to talk about that along
with some other fun things. But I really wanted to
kind of start from the beginning, because you've been writing
and performing music since childhood.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Really, I mean, can you tell us about the moment
you knew that this was your path?
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Yeah, I kind of there wasn't really a specific moment
because ever since I can remember, I've been singing around
the house, you know, as a toddler. I remember doing
that and kind of making up my own jingles, even
though they weren't like full songs, but I made up
my own jingles. And then when I was thirteen or
(02:22):
when I was eleven, I taught myself how to play
piano through that app called Simply Piano. And then when
I was thirteen, I picked up the guitar, and then
soon after that I started writing songs, so full songs
like chorus, pre chorus, verse, and that was really kind
of the gateway to this whole journey. And then at
(02:44):
fifteen I went into a studio and recorded my own
demos and that's kind of where it started.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
The rest is history.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Really, You've been on like a really fast track since then,
I mean, you have been putting out some great, great
songs that are doing very well, you know, one being
your latest single, Why'd You Give Up, which is a
powerful song, very relatable.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Can you tell us about this song?
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Yeah, so a lot of my songs aren't actually about me.
I like to pull from books and movies and other
people's experiences. And there was this one book that really
caught me. This this romance book about you know, two
people who have this on and off relationship, and I
(03:33):
wrote about their story and I thought that so many
people could relate to it, and I really kind of
I guess you could say I live vicariously through you know,
characters and movies and books.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, that's so cool.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
And what's the like the fan reaction been like for
this song since its release?
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Yeah, people really love this song. I think it's a
lot of people have said this is the most relatable.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
One, and.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
That's like, as a songwriter, that's the you know, the
best thing you could hear from people.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yeah, that's the best compliment, isn't it When people are
actually relating to something that you've written, your words. And
you know, when you first heard this song, you know,
coming out of the studio we were when you first
heard it, and it's all of its glory. What was
that reaction, like, I mean, I'm sure it was just
so much pride and joy that it was, you know
(04:29):
that it turned out so well?
Speaker 3 (04:30):
It really did, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
I you know, it's kind of the first these these
three songs, especially that I've released in the past three months.
It's kind of the first songs that I've released.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
That really I thought.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
The production is how I heard it when I wrote
the song, you know, if that makes any sense, and
it really came to life. And when I was working
with Caleb Flanders, who produced the song, I really felt
like he kind of knew the vision that I had
for this song. And yeah, the song really came to life.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
So it really did turn out incredibly well, along with
your other singles as well. I know your previous single
was I Couldn't, which did very well, and that was
another like really powerful and emotional song, and so I
really love how you are able to capture such incredible
storytelling first and foremost, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
You're very welcome, which is what you want in a
song and in a songwriter.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
So You're just incredible, and I have to ask you.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Any thoughts on like an album or AP that you
can tell us about, or are you mainly focused on
releasing singles at this point?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
We need more, is what I'm doing? Well, thank you
so much.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
That's very kind.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
I really do want to release an album, hopefully in
the next year or two, but for now, I think
I'm just you know, releasing singles and just kind of
trying to get my foot in the door and seeing,
you know where it takes me.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah. Yes, So are you doing some more writing as
of now?
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I mean, is there's more songs maybe in the works
that we can keep an eye out for.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Yes, for sure.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
I am planning on releasing a Christmas song and I'm
really excited about that.
Speaker 7 (06:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
And then I have a couple other songs that I
feel are slightly different in sound than the other things
I've released. They're kind of more folky, and I'm really
excited for those.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yeah, I'm so excited. You have no idea. I'm so excited.
First off, the Christmas song.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
I love a good Christmas tune, let me tell you so,
I'm really looking forward to that one. And then, of
course I love that you're mixing it up and doing
more of like a folky sound, and you're just kind
of able to play around a little bit with your voice.
You know that you're very versatile, which I think is
so great. And I want people to be able to
find your new music as soon as it comes out.
(07:00):
Can you please give out your website and also social
networking sites as well.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Of course. So my website is Grace Humphreys music dot com,
and then my Instagram is Grace Humphreys Music at Gray
Humfrey's Music, and then YouTube is the same handle at
Grace Humfrey's Music. TikTok is the same, and then Facebook
is the same.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Perfect everyone, please make sure you go and check her
out right now, right after this interview.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
I promise you won't regret it.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
And then of course your singles are all on Spotify, Amazaby,
They're all over the people, which I love, very accessible,
so please make sure you check that out everybody. And
I wanted to ask you what was the feeling like
the very first time that you heard one of your
songs on the radio.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
Oh man, I remember, h I think I had my
dog with me and I was I was doing I
was doing a content thing, and I was just man,
I could not stop dancing. I was I think it
was good enough. It was good enough that I released
about a year ago. Yeah, and man, I was just
(08:05):
so elated and yeah to hear that my mom was
with me and oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Right, Oh wow, what a crazy experience. And I love
that your mom and your dog were both able to
share the experience.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Yes, that's amazing.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
And I wanted to ask you what's been a highlight
for you since starting this musical journey. I mean, I
know you have had, you know, so many great you
know things you know happen with you now, but of
course more is to come, but so far, what's been
kind of a highlight for you?
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yeah, I think the highlight. There's so many, but I
feel like what really comes to mind is how some
people on my socials you know, have reached out to
me and said how much they relate to my songs,
and especially with I Couldn't, A lot of people said
they because it's more of a you know, an anthem
(08:54):
for kind of more of a message that I had
with that song, and people really had really deep stories
to share and that meant a lot to me.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Oh, nothing better than that that crazing. And I have
some fun questions for you. I love my fun questions.
So have you ever had any embarrassing on stage moments
that you can recall or something that just didn't happen
as planned live and in person?
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Oh? Of course. So I'm I'm a worship leader at
my church and I might in ears. I did not
have the pastor turned up that day and we were
taking communion. It was communion, and I took communion before
(09:41):
the pastor on stage. Everyone saw because I thought you
had said you can you can take the communion?
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Yes, Oh yeah, so I'm sure You're not the only one.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Have I promised you? Oh? That is that is too.
That is too funny.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Listen, anything could happen when you're when you're live, and
any circumstance or.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Any location, it could happen.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
So the other fun question that I have for you,
are there any like vocal warm ups that you do
that may sound funny on the outside of work every time?
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Oh, that's a good question.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
I feel like lift trills kind of are a little weird,
but they really do work. And then there's this you
can put blowing air bubbles in a cup with a
straw and.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
That really warms up your voice and you just.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
Kind of walk around the house with your your water,
your half full cup of water and with your.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Straw and just blowing bubbles in the cup. But yeah, see,
that's what people have been doing since they were kids.
I mean, listen, we were all doing it. We're all
warming up as children exactly.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
That is the crazy thing that you people can do.
And that's a great warm up. That's wonderful. And the
last question that I have for you, is there a
stage anywhere in the world that you would love to
perform that you haven't had the opportunity yet.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Oh? Man, that's so that's a great question. I feel
like I would really love to perform at the Opry someday. Ye.
Even though I'm not like I would say, maybe as
country as some other country artists, I do feel that
country is a big part of my sound and I
would love to play there.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Oh for sure, I could see it happening. You would
be amazing. I would love that.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
You're very welcome, and I'm so excited to see what
is next for you. We will definitely be following your journey.
But until then, everyone, please make sure you check out
the latest single why do You Give Up?
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Right Now? By Grace Humphreys and stay tuned what is next?
And thank you so much Grace for joining me.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Oh my pleasure.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
You've just heard from the wonderful Grace Humphries. Up next
is the very talented Gracie Shreiver.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Please welcome to the Josie Show. My guest Gracie Shiver.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Hello, are you hello or you doing?
Speaker 3 (12:01):
I am doing well. Thank you so much for joining me.
I really appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
Yes, thank you for having me. I've been so excited
about this. I really appreciate it to you.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Oh, I have been looking forward to this because your
latest single, let me tell you Living Proof has been
a repeat in my household.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
It's so good. Can you share the inspiration behind this
beautiful song?
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (12:23):
Yes, thank you.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
Well.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
First, that means so much. I really do appreciate that.
Speaker 7 (12:27):
I am actually was you know, I had dated my
high school sweet already just got married recently, and so
you always are searching for that inspo for music. And
he kind of made a joke with me because you know,
we did it forever, but it was never I never
really wrote a ton of love songs that I laugh
and I'm like, sometimes love songs just don't come out.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
As easy for some reason.
Speaker 7 (12:50):
So I was like, okay, when we you know, we
set a deep for the wedding and stuff, I wanted
to do something special to surprise him. So a couple
of my friends, Kelly Prince and Mitch Craig, sat down
with them at Universal and was like, I want to
surprise them with a first stance song.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
So I wrote this one for him.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
And put it out and got to have its little moment.
So it was it was exciting.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Yeah, that is ah, I love that, And congratulations to you.
That's so exciting.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 7 (13:18):
Yes, it's been a whirlwind of a year, but it's
been a lot of good things.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Justly has been left and right.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
You have been, you know, doing some incredible things, and
so many wonderful things have been coming your way personally
and professionally. And the first time I heard the song
actually because it was on WSM, because it premiered there,
and it was I mean, come on, how exciting is that?
Was that a bucket list moment for you being able
to be to premiere this song there.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
Yes, for sure, that is something that I have like
prayed about since I was a little bitty girl, and
you know, like being twenty two now and do like
the Opry has always been just very iconic for me.
So I was like when they called and I got
to visit with you know, Charlie and Bill and this
Kelly and all of them, it was the.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Best morning ever.
Speaker 7 (14:03):
I squoiled like a little girl when I got that gold.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
So it was so fun.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
That is so fun. And they're the sweetest too. We
were on the show off for the Josee Music Bards.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
We on the Josee Music Bards that's at the Grand
Opry House, and so when we were down there, we
got to meet the three that you mentioned and they're
just so sweet. And the interview were so good too.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Oh that's amazing.
Speaker 7 (14:22):
Guess they're the nicest people ever and even their directors
and you know, producers, and I ran them up a
box of merch, like they wrapped.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
The fake blonde hats and everything. They're just the best.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
That was amazing.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Yes, it was such a great It was such a
great interview. It's also on YouTube if anybody wants to
check it out. But what kind of feedback have you
gotten from fans about Living Proof so far. Any cool
stories that you've been receiving at all, Yes, it's.
Speaker 7 (14:47):
I think my favorite thing is like when you release
the song and then you get on TikTok or something
and they use the sound for like their wedding photos
or videos or they're like, you know, I've been married
to my Like I just played a show in South
Carolina this past weekend, and you have the people that
are like, well, I was married to my high school
sweetheart and now we're celebrating forty years or fifty years.
But it's just so sweet to hear those stories too,
(15:10):
because you know, and it's not a super common thing,
but no matter what it's relatable for, like whether they
were high school sweethearts that you just met, it's so
sweet to see the photos and the little TikTok videos
and all of the sweet comments.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Nothing better than that. That's amazing.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
That's so cute.
Speaker 7 (15:26):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
I love that so much. That's amazing. And are you
thinking of a music video for this one at all?
Speaker 6 (15:34):
You know that has kind of been in the works,
but I think what we're gonna do is kind of
something really cool.
Speaker 7 (15:40):
With We did a cant some camcorder footage just throughout
the days of their wedding and dating and stuff. So
I think we're gonna do something kind of special at
that that should come out pretty soon.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Oh I'm so excited. I cannot wait. Because you looked gorgeous.
It looked like a beautiful, beautiful wedding from the photos.
I stopped on Facebook and it just an Instagram, but yeah,
so it looked like it was such a beautiful, beautiful night.
And how amazing would that would that be in a
music video? That was the first thought.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
I was like, this music, this has to be a
music video.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
Oh, thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
It was.
Speaker 6 (16:13):
We had the best thing.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
We're like, you know what, we want this to be beautiful,
but also we're from this stut like, we're from Oklahoma
and we love country music and obviously in barbecue, so
we were like, we wanted to be comfortable and fun
but pretty.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
So it was a perfect mix in both worlds.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Yes, absolutely, it looks stunning. It really did, and so
I'm so excited about that. And then of course your
prior single, which which really really got you know, so
much tension, was rich.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
It did so well and.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
That one was actually inspired by your parents' story a
bit too as well. So can you tell us a
little bit about that.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
Yes, that was sweet too.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
I kind of like wanted to do a little moment
this year with all of the like love songs you
had written. But so my parents got married at twenty
two as well, which is really funny, and we were
I was visiting with them, you know, back when we
first got engaged, and I'd always heard the love story
of my parents, but just hearing my dad be like,
you know what, You're gonna have tough moments, You're gonna
(17:12):
have good moments, and there's gonna be moments where you're
scraping pennies together to make it work. And they laughed
because they were like, y'all are way better off than us.
We were eating liver out of the freezer and like
onion cast role.
Speaker 6 (17:24):
Right, there was a sweet Yes, it was just a sweet.
Speaker 7 (17:27):
Moment of like just their story and like their parents
were the same way and my husband's parents were the
same way. So it was like it's a full circle moment.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
It really is. I loved it. It's such a great song.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
And I have to ask you because I literally fell
in love with all of your songs, and everyone has
their own process when it comes to songwriting.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
So what did that look like for you when you're
ready to write a song? How does that? How does
that work for you?
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (17:53):
I feel like for some people it'll be like a
hook or something, and for me, I feel like it's
just like a story of something gone through. I think
it's cool when you get in a writer's room because
everyone has their own strength, like you have the melody
strength or the lyric strength or the hook strength. And
I really do think my strength is coming in with
like the story and maybe a little melody that can
(18:14):
be tweaked as well. But with Rich and Living Proof,
it was like I knew what I wanted to say.
I came in with several verses written and just finding
those people that see your vision and can help mold
it as well. And that's It's just a really cool
thing to get to do and how everyone's artistic in
their own ways.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Yes, oh well, I love that and I'm so excited
for you on this song of course, living Proof, But
also I can't wait for what is next for you?
Speaker 3 (18:39):
So are you?
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Have you been writing some more songs? Can we look
for maybe like an album repe down the line.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
What are we thinking?
Speaker 6 (18:46):
Yes, I have so much more music.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
Honestly, I just got done this past week in the
studio with some more music that I'm trying to promote the.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
Ones that I have on now. But then you get
these new.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
Ones bucks and you're like, oh my gosh, Yes, so
much more music coming. I'm doing singles until probably late
spring of next year, and then I do have an
EP dropping. But for Christmas, I have a Christmas single
and I'm gonna get to do a whole moment for that,
and then another single coming out into January with another
(19:17):
music video.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
So it's gonna be exciting.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Oh it is. I cannot wait. I'm definitely gonna promote
it everywhere. I promise you that.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
I thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
You're very welcome and for those who want to stay
tuned everything that you have going on, can you give
out your website and also your on social networking sites
as well.
Speaker 6 (19:34):
Yes. So my name's Gracy Shrever. My parents did me
a little dirty, so it's g r aceee.
Speaker 7 (19:41):
I mean you can find me on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook,
everything at just Gracy Shriver and also anywhere you stream
your music as well.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Perfect.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
I love that everyone check her out. That's amazing. I
hope everyone does after the show. And then of course
they could hear all of your music on all of
those great platforms like Spotify, am on Music.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
You're everywhere, dismay of everywhere, they could stream all of
you there.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yes, I love that you're very accessible. Okay, you can
check her check her out, everybody, please do.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
And I wanted to mention because you were on the
Voice I believe it was twenty nineteen and I remember
seeing that and did that experience teach you or help
you in any way for your journey?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
What was that experience like?
Speaker 7 (20:21):
Yes, you know, I so I was sixteen and turned
seventeen on the show, and so that was a little
bit crazy.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
Was my senior year of high school and then the
sort of COVID and it was just kind of crazy.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
Yeah, but I will say I made a million friends,
and I think it was Although it has, you know,
it's ups and downs, it definitely like throws you into
what the industry is like. It's like television, hand makeups,
strict schedules, you gotta like everything's on the flights ever
changing and I think I kind of told my mom
like now we look back, I'm like, you either want
(20:54):
it more after that or you're just done. And I
definitely think like it lit another fire under me at
even just sixteen, of like I want this even more
than I ever believed. So I learned so much. Kelly
Clarkson hands down to this today. It's one of the
sweetest people I've ever met. It has the best advice.
So just the connections I made from that show will
(21:15):
forever be thankful for.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Absolutely nothing better than that is getting to meet some
great artists that you can learn from, and you know,
what a great experience for you to have, you know,
at such a young age. But I'm sure you were
very nervous as well. You can show it, but a
little bit you.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Were a little nervous probably next I know, and.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
It's like, but you kind of just didn't have time
to be nervous. You're like, oh my gosh, you're running around,
but I definitely was.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
Once you get up there, you're like, Okay, I'm solid,
and everyone's just humans. But then you get backstage and
they're like eleven million people are watching right now, and
you're like, oh.
Speaker 6 (21:49):
It's a whirlwind.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
I love that. That's so funny. Oh my goodness.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
And I have to ask you, you know, some fun
questions because I'm all about the fun question.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
So are you ready?
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Yes, ma'am perfect, perfect. So this is the question that
I love to ask because we are all humans. So
have you ever had any embarrassing on stage momentcy you
recall or something that just didn't happen as planned live
and in person? Oh?
Speaker 5 (22:14):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (22:14):
And the one that comes to mind is when I
was eleven. I know this is a throwback, but I
was digging ever since I was ten. So I was
eleven and I was singing at Toby Keith's restaurant in
Oklahoma City, and I was singing the wagon Wheel and
I forgot every single word. So I just made up
the whole entire song is like through it, I got off.
(22:36):
Yet I literally made up the whole thing. I never
skipped to be going off the stage. And then everyone's like,
oh my gosh.
Speaker 6 (22:41):
I was singing along.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
And I guess I don't know the words, and I
was like, hey, I picked it, made it?
Speaker 3 (22:47):
You really did. That's an improv right there. That's probable.
That's amazing. I guess I love that season about how
you recover. You know what I mean, and you exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
My parents were like, just don't stop, so I straight
it up.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Watch this. I love that.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
I love that fun question that I have for you.
It's another one I love to ask. Is there a
like a vocal warm up that you love to do
that may sound funny on the outside, but every time
dead on it always works.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
Yes, the mews. I've been doing the mew.
Speaker 7 (23:20):
Since I was a nine and I people will get
me like I'm a freak, but I swear it.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Yes, I've heard that ready and yes absolutely, they always
say the mew one is like one of the one
of the best.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
It may sound funny and people may look at you strange,
but it works. Yes, yeah, I know it is.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
It's so random. I still don't understand it, but I've
been doing it for years.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
I love that. That is so so cool. Oh my goodness. See,
there you go.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
There's some advice to some younger artists out there. Get
the meow going, get the warm ups. Warm Ups are
very important. I have learned this, yes, very.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Yeah, so make sure you do that, uh for sure.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
And then the last fun question I have for you,
is there stage that you'd love to perform that you
haven't yet. It could be anywhere around the world.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
What would you.
Speaker 7 (24:04):
Say, Oh, I think I have two, and they're very
different skills. My first and foremost will of course be
the grandele Aubrey Circle yea that I think is just
the highlight for any socially country music artists. And then
next be my hometown arena of the b Ok just
being a Tolsal girl in like every concert I went
(24:25):
to growing up was at the be Ok, So that
would be a cool one for me to get to
say I played.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
That would be so cool, especially since you were able
to see shows. You'll be able to look out in
the audience and like be like, hey, I was sitting there.
Speaker 6 (24:37):
Yes, that's my dream.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
It will happen for you. I'm telling you, I feel
it in my bones. Both of those.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
I'm sure because you're just You're just I'm doing incredible
things really uphill and I'm just so excited to see
what is next for you.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
And like I said, we are new fans, so I
hope everyone.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
