(00:02):
I consider you my student, whether you have taken limb, you're in the program right now, the Lean and Make Make Academy.
In which case it's, it's clear you're my student, but even if you haven't.
Yet taken the lean and make Bank academy.
I consider you my student.
You're my future student.
You're gonna be in there and we're gonna be working together.
I'm, I'm talking to you.
(00:23):
I'm talking to you, my student, whether you're a future student, whether you're a current student, whether you are a grad of our program, when I record these episodes of the money sessions, you are who I'm talking to.
Just today I was teaching office hours running our clinical corner in the Lean and Make Bank Academy, and one of our students was like,, I ask our students, you know, existing seasoned students, please give advice.
(00:48):
What's your number one piece of strategic feedback for people who have just joined the program?
And one of our, our long standing students said, Listen to the money sessions.
I listened to all of those episodes and I love that the students said that because these, these episodes are for you wherever you are at in your limb journey, your premium fee private practice journey, these episodes are for you.
(01:11):
And so I often come up with the ideas for these episodes from conversations I am having with our current students and conversations I've had with our graduates.
What's working in terms of premium fee marketing these days?
What are the struggles you're facing?
How are you overcoming any obstacles that come with designing a practice, cash pay, premium fees, $250 300 dollars per session, weekly sessions, no cancellation policies.
(01:35):
When you're designing a practice that actually serves you, sustains your life, gives you life versus just sucking you dry, what does it take to do that in an ongoing way.
Beginning, middle, and end.
Let me give you a pro tip.
There's no end.
There's no end to this journey, because we always, if you're one of my students, you will always striving for growth, spaciousness, ease, and freedom.
(01:58):
That is a lifelong journey, a delicious, beautiful, creative endeavor that spans your entire lifetime.
So I was talking to a future student today.
P, P, I'm talking to you.
, and one of the things you brought up was I, I think that therapists can have a premium fee practice.
(02:22):
I know it's possible and in fact this person I was talking to today who was considering joining us, and I have no doubt will join us, she was saying, I'm even a supervisor and I help other therapists actually be successful in private practice, but when it comes to me.
You know, Tiffany, I feel like I'm a special snowflake.
I know you talk about a special snowflakes.
(02:43):
This can work for everyone else, but I, I don't know that it can work for me.
And here's, here's a thought I had for you, P, and for all of you who are listening right now that came up after.
Conversation folks, I continue to be in conversation with you just because the the meeting time is done and I close that zoom window or I turn off my Instagram story or I stop, you know, the, the, the Instagram reel is done or the money sessions podcast is over our, our office hours is officially through for the day.
(03:10):
I am still in conversation with you all of the time.
In my mind And here was my thought for this.
If you are somebody who has thought, I would love to have a premium fee practice.
I love this idea.
I'm I I don't feel guilty or maybe I feel a little guilty, but I truly believe that I, I'm worthy of that it's my right to have a business that takes care of me, that takes care of my children, that that allows me to live the life I want.
(03:38):
I believe it, but I just don't think it's possible.
Here's my.
Thought for you.
By the way, if you have no idea who I am or what I'm talking about, hello, welcome to today's episode of the Money sessions.
In this series we go between having real, honest, raw, just transparent conversations with therapists who are on the path or are staunchly firmly grounded in having premium fee cash pay practices.
(04:06):
What is their journey?: What did it take to get there?
What are the obstacles?
How are they making it happen?
What are their doubts?
That's what we do for half of these podcast episodes, and the other half is just me coming in and sharing behind the scenes insights that come from having these conversations with therapists every single day, all day long.
So my message for you, if you are somebody who believes it's possible to have a premium fee practice.
(04:29):
In fact, you've listened to every episode of the Money sessions.
You have been following me for years.
You know what we do.
You know that like, OK, this is the thing that therapists are doing, this is possible for me.
Let me back that up.
This is possible.
I know this is possible for someone, but I don't believe it's possible for me.
Here's what I have to say to you.
I think this is important for you to hear.
, You are likely part of a generations of.
(04:58):
You come from and in this particular case, a black woman, I'm talking to you, black woman to black woman.
This could be a, you could come from it you don't have to be a black woman for this to apply.
I'm certain if you're listening to this episode, there is a way this applies to you.
You come from generations of people.
For whom you have done it right, there's a lot of things you've done wrong, but I suspect somewhere back in your story line in the generations of your family, there was somebody who actually did all of the right things, made the strategic moves, started building the wealth, built up a financial safety cushion, actually had a trajectory for growth, overcame the odds.
(05:41):
And guess what?
That shit was taken away.
That shit was taken away unfairly, unjustly, just ripped apart because the system was stacked against you.
You.
I'm talking about your grandmother, your great grandmother, your great great grandmother, your great great grandfather, right?
It didn't matter what you fucking did.
The system was not gonna let you win and you look around.
(06:04):
Oh, let me say one more thing.
The system is not gonna let you win.
And then it says, oh by the way, it's your fault.
You did it wrong.
Oh, you, you weren't this enough.
You weren't that enough.
If only you weren't right, if only you had done X, Y, and Z, you would have been fine now, right?
It's your fault that you're here.
Meanwhile, other members of our society fumble, trip, make errors, lose all their money.
(06:28):
I'm not talking about our president of the United States right now.
, just have shit handed to them over and over and over and make so many mistakes and do it wrong and fumble and trip, and they are still rewarded.
The system still rewards them.
They're giving the message you're doing it right.
You're getting the message you're doing it wrong.
Listen folks, I am certain there are things you need to be doing more strategically.
(06:52):
I know, I know, I know you do, right?
That's why this program exists.
That's why I run the Lean and M V Academy.
That's why I give you a step by step by step roadmap to succeed, to have a $200,000 practice while seeing fewer than 15 clients a week.
That's why I do this.
However, I suspect in your family line there have been instances where you have people who did it all right and were punished, were beat down, had things taken away and we're told it's your fault, and that story of, I get a little emotional actually I'm I'm finding myself getting emotional.
(07:28):
That story of.
This is possible for other people, but it's not possible for me, has been passed down for generations.
And you have internalized that story as I've done something wrong.
P in LA.
You who's listening to this episode right now, you have internalized it as this is possible for everyone else, but it's not possible for me.
(07:51):
You've made that story your own story.
But I need you to know.
I'm here to tell you right now it's not yours, it's not your story.
This is a generational story.
This is a historic story, this is a story of unjust systems that fuck you over and then tell you it's your fault.
(08:12):
Tell you you've done something wrong.
The fact is, having a premium fee practice, whatever you go for, having a business, having a group practice, having courses, doing a TED Talk.
In order to be successful, you literally have to do it wrong.
You have to fail.
You have to fail.
But when you have come from generations of people where failure means death, where failure means destitution, where failure means imprisonment, where failure means you are ripped apart from your family members, then it's much harder.
(08:44):
I'm getting goosebumps, folks.
Fuck, I knew this message had to be said today.
It is much harder to take risks, to bet on yourself, to believe that it's possible for you because that has meant death for family lines.
Do you hear what I'm saying?
Do you hear what I'm saying?
Take a moment to let that sink in.
(09:10):
So it makes sense that you feel this way.
It makes sense that you are on the cusp.
You wanna make a change.
You clearly listening to this episode, you listen to the, the, you read my emails, you're on Instagram, you listen to all the stories of people who have been successful.
There's a voice in you, there's a part of you.
I like to think in terms of your internal committee, there is a committee member who has hope.
(09:32):
Who who believes that this is possible, who sees the possibility, who listens to these stories and feels inspired and wants something more, you experience that desire, but there is a committee member with a louder voice, and maybe this is a group of committee members in there who have had the experience for generations.
They're hearing the generational story they've internalized.
(09:55):
The generational experience of don't be a sucker, don't be a fool.
You really think this is gonna work for you, you're gonna do all that work and guess what, it's gonna be ripped away.
It's gonna be ripped away.
So why even start?
Here's why to start.
Here's why to start.
You have kids.
You want a different story for them, and there's only one way for them to get a different story, which is why you fucking making that different story.
(10:20):
I'll tell you why you want a different story because you've come from a long line of people who worked their asses off and been fucked over, and you have a chance to do it differently.
Standing on their shoulders, you could do it differently.
They didn't work so hard for you to be scared and not take risks.
You hear what I'm saying?
And you don't have to do it alone.
You're gonna be with all kinds of people who have similar stories who are taking similar risks, who are betting on themselves and betting on each other together to change the game for us because nobody's gonna change the game for you.
(10:49):
Nobody's gonna change the game on your behalf, but if you make the choice, if you take the risk, here's the situation, real talk.
I've been running this program for I think 7 years at least.
, lean and make bank working with therapists around money in private practice.
, I have 3 full-time people who work on my team, 2 folks who have graduated from the program who are doing office hours in the program, showing you exactly how to do it, helping you move forward when you feel stuck.
(11:16):
We have helped over 800 students, maybe closer to 900 by now, in our program we've have helped tens of thousands, more than 10s of thousands through our free programs, through our podcasts, through our online presence, through our email list.
But 10s and 10s of thousands, and even then I wonder.
(11:38):
I often wonder.
Is this really possible for me?
It doesn't go away.
I'm not like, there was no point where I'm like, well, let me be clear.
There's never been a time when I've suddenly struck with, oh yeah, I can do this.
This is possible for me, this is possible for Tiffany.
Done and done.
It's not how it works.
(11:59):
It's just not how it works at every phase, at every stage.
The question comes up, can I, is, I know I see people out there, mentors I've looked at people who have online businesses, people who are making huge impact doing TED Talks, making change, writing books.
I see that it's possible, but I often wonder, OK, I know it's possible, but is it possible for me?
(12:20):
And I do it anyway.
I do it anyway.
That question, is it possible for me, does not mean that you have to wait until the answer is yes to take action.
I take action every single fucking day and I still don't have the answer to that question.
I won't have the answer to the question until I'm dead because that's when I stop, right?
When I'm dead is when I stop asking that question.
(12:43):
When I'm dead is when I start stop moving towards, stop working to create when I stop designing a life where I pursue ease and freedom and spaciousness for myself, for my children, for you, my student.
Who I'm doing all of this work to help you see the breakthrough to understand.
(13:07):
There is something possible for you.
I can't promise your end game.
I can't promise that the system's not gonna fuck you over, but I can promise psychic and emotional emancipation when you make a choice to pursue freedom for yourself.
When you make a choice to understand what is it, what do I want?
What's my desire and to drive towards it.
Nobody can take away from you, your desire, your power.
(13:32):
To drive towards what you want.
The only one who can take that away is you.
The only one who can take that away from you is you.
So my question to you, if you've been considering working with us for a long time, if you've been considering joining limb, joining this legion of therapists who are committed to.
Doing it differently, doing it for themselves, bucking this fucking system and saying I don't know how.
(13:56):
I don't know if it's possible for me, but I'm damn sure gonna find out.
I'm damn sure gonna try.
I'm not gonna sit around, wait until I'm 80 and regretting not taking action.
If you're that person, I encourage you to send me an email, Tiffany at lean and make bacon, just say I'm ready.
Just say I'm ready.
(14:17):
You got it?
I don't want your fear.
I don't want generations of you being fucked generations of true historical and current systemic marginalization, systemic inequity.
I don't want that to be the reason that you don't move forward towards what you want.
I don't want that voice to win.
Over the part of you that has hope, that wants change, that wants to believe it's possible.
(14:42):
You hear what I'm saying?
Email me, Tiffany@lena McBank.
I'm ready.
Let's fucking do this.
Let's fucking.
Why not?
What do you have to lose?
Here's what you have to lose.
,, fantasy.
As long as you don't take action, you can live in a fantasy.
Well, if I did take action, maybe it would happen.
(15:04):
What you have to lose is just the the fantasy security, a hope that the world can be rainbow and sunshine and tomatoes all day long.
Guess what, it's not gonna be.
This road is gonna be hard.
There are gonna be disappointments, there are gonna be there's gonna be shame, there's gonna be struggle, but there's also, I promise, I can say this, from being on the other side and continuing to find new sides and new sides, there is ease.
(15:31):
And spaciousness and psychic and mental emancipation.
That makes everything not even worth it, but more than worth it.
There's no other way I'd want to live.
There's no other way I would want to live.
That's, that's it.
Fucking take it away, folks.
