How do you know all of these things?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
I don't know. He's a legends kind of came to
He's a legend.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
I had no idea, just.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
A short PSA to help me help you.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
I just I just watched it flicking through the TV
and I just watched Jerry Maguire again. Oh yeah, that's
where it comes from.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Help me help you.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, because I was there. I was there when they
were filming it. They filmed it at the Cardinals facility
when I was coaching there.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
It's one of my favorite Mac facts is that you
were there for the filming of Jeremy Maguire.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
That the every day, every day it was it was fascinating.
So anyway, go ahead, I mean Mac nugget.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, but really this is this is a great resource
to help you get up to date on everything that's
going on draft related because on draft night you're going
to hear the names that we are talking about, so
you may as well know a little bit about them.
With that being said, are you guys ready to start
talking tight ends?
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Let's go this go.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
This is a great draft for tight ends, correct, And
that's exciting because I feel like we've had a couple
years where there's kind of been a lull at the
tight end position. Why do you think it is that
this year is the year that there's a lot of
decent depth at that position group.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
It's become a huge, huge position in offensive football. Yeah,
not only the National Football League, but starting out in
the collegiate game with all the RPOs that the people
are doing now and the spread offenses, and plus a
lot of people are playing a lot of twelve personnel now,
which is two tights, two wides, one back, but using
these guys as big slot receivers. That's why.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, because we're not talking about your traditional yesteryear tight
end draft where the y blocking position, Like, yeah, there's
a couple of guys in this draft that that's what
they do. But you're really he's right, You're you're looking
at big, giant receivers.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, that's awesome. Well, I have asked you guys to
put together a list of the top names within the
tight end group, and you so kindly did that. Yes,
so RHTT. Who are some of the guys who are
on your list.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Let's start with a guy that started to really get
on our radar going to the Senior Bowl this year
in Mobile, and that's Elijah Arroyo from University of Miami,
one of quarterback cam Ward's favorite targets. He had a
significant knee injury, so the medical checks on that knee
were really crucial. In Indianapolis, he had a pretty severe
(04:00):
knee injury that limited him just eight games that he
played in between the twenty twenty two and the twenty
twenty three seasons as a Hurricane. So he had a
career year in twenty twenty four and stayed healthy. Thirty
one catches, five twenty six and six touchdowns from cam Ward.
He rang in at the combine at six five and
an eighth two fifty hands, ten inches arms, thirty three
wing almost eighty two inches, and we saw him at
(04:22):
Singer Bowl. He was huge, big, big dude. He did
not do any testing at the combine except for the
bench press. He did twenty two reps at two to
twenty five but that's a guy that is really starting
to pick up steam as one of the better tight
ends in this group. Another one is a guy named
Colston Loveland and he is from the tiny town of Gooding, Idaho,
(04:46):
population thirty five hundred. Standout basketball player in high school
and he was a Michigan Wolverine. He finished twenty twenty
four with forty five catches for six hundred and forty
nine yards and four touchdowns. Colston Loveland had a right
acy joint repair of his right shoulder on January twenty ninth.
He was still in the sling and the apparatus when
(05:07):
I saw him at the podium at Combine a while back.
Another one that should be cleared up to go this
summer after he is drafted. Sixty five and three quarters,
two hundred and forty eight pounds, ten inch hands, arms
thirty two and three quarters. My last one on this
list is a guy from well Eddie. George is now
their head coach at Bowling Green and now in Kentucky.
(05:29):
This is Bowling Green, Ohio and the MAC Conference, and
that's Harold fannin junior. Harold fannin junior is a very
interesting prospect six to three and a quarter two forty
one hands nine and a quarter arm thirty two in
a quarter wing almost eighty inches. He tested pretty well
at that size four to seven to one in the
forty one five six in his first ten four to
thretey nine short shuttle six nine seven three cone drill,
(05:52):
thirty four inch vertical leap nine ten broad twenty two
reps at two twenty five and he led all FBS
tight ends and receptions and receiving yards at Bowling Green
last year. He finishes with one hundred catches last year
for thirteen hundred and forty two yards and nine touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Wow wow, wow wow RTT, that was a strong list, Mac,
What do you have?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
First of all, let's help our ot people out a
little bit. We give you all these numbers on these testing. Yeah,
when you talk about the three cone for these skill positions,
anything under seven is really good. Okay, that's what you're
looking for. Seven seconds are under. You start getting into
mid sevens, then you start getting into guys that are
having trouble getting around the corner or or just you know,
being able to move. But if you hear us say
(06:37):
this was a six' five or six six or six
that's really. Good that's what you're looking. For the three
cone anything under Seven.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Okay now that's a Guy Harold fan and he was
six three and a quarter but he was two hundred
and forty one pounds doing, that.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Right, YEAH i mean that's a lot of person to.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Move, yes it.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
IS i, mean and it's important to kind of know
what the measuring stick. Is you know when you're when
you're when you're listening to all these. Numbers because that's.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Good call Out, mac good job everyone.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Now and THEN i get it. Right Tyler warren From
Penn state six' five and, a half two, sixty five
nine and a, half hands seventy six, Inch wingspan this
guy is is what you're looking for size and play
strength IN. The nfl but he's a why? Tight end
WHAT do i MEAN when i? Say why why? Tight
(07:23):
end is that guy that's normally gonna light up next
to your. Offensive tackle this is not a guy that's
going to split out a, whole lot but. He was
he is a prototypical redhead talked earlier in this you
know about, tight ends about the difference of the way
the position. Has changed this is a prototypical why? Tight
end why is on the end of the line, of
scrimmage next to. The tackles just so we Got That
(07:45):
penn state's entire offense ran through. This guy he can
make really good adjustments to the ball down. The field
he's a great, combat catcher which means a contested catch
because of his size. And strength he's improved. His hand
he will he will. BULLY defenders i mean. HE will
i mean you can see him do it all. The
time he can sink. His hips, he's consistent and he's.
(08:08):
Technically nuanced he's got. Good power his contact balance after
catch is really. Really good he's got, the size he's
got the movement skills to block just about however you
want him, to block all. Right now his speed is
average for what we're. Looking at. HE'S unlikely, i say
he's a white. Tight end he's not going to be
(08:28):
a guy when you're looking, at, saying well he's going
to really threaten us deep down. The scene but he's a. Fluid,
Runner amy but the difference between being fluid and being
explosive and. Extremely quick but this guy will be a first.
Round pick all of these guys have got pluses. And
minuses so when you're talking about. THESE people, i mean
like we're doing it we would in a. Draft room
(08:50):
you've got, to give you got to give the pluses
and the minuses with what. We've got next Guy Is
mason taylor OUT. Of lsu first, of all really good
gene pool.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
In him yea gold, Jackets galore yes.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Six five two, fifty one hand size, of ten arm
lake of, thirty two wingspan of. Seventy eight go the nuggets.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
On.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Him rent, Of Course, jason Taylor the Hall of famer
pass rusher For, the dolphins is. His father his Uncle Is,
zach Thomas another dolphin gold jacket member Of the Hall.
Of FAME but i hate that we did not ask
him this At The senior bowl when we talked. To
him we're really nice, young man but he knew early
on he wanted to, get better, and obviously you know
(09:29):
with uncle and dad with. That pedigree but when he
was in, high school he asked, his mother can we
turn our garage into? A gym and SO The Mt,
mason TAYLOR The mt, Lab created they finished, It out
they put gear, in there and all of his teammates
would come over and work out every day at. His
house at, his House ret. Nuggets supreme here.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
We, go wow that's a. Big one and also shout
out to mom for, Being, like, okay yeah sure she.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
KNOWS well, i Mean, mo is, you know knows what
football can do for you when you get really good at.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
It, too yeah this dude is a, legitimate dude and
you can tell he's grown up with it when you talk. To,
HIM yeah i mean you really. Like that he can
really track the ball over. His shoulder he's got good
coordination and. Body control his drop rate, is really. Really
low he's a. Smooth mover he's, very subtle and the
things he does you can tell he's been learning, the game,
you know from an. Early age he's got good beIN
(10:25):
he's got. Lateral explosiveness he understands how to locate his
targets when. He's blocking they used him a lot in
past protection because he's just he's at a good old
all around. Tight end he's got. Average speed he's not
going to be. A burner he's not as sudden sometimes
out of, these breaks but. He's smooth there's a difference
between being sudden and. Being smooth the thing that happens
(10:47):
to him sometimes is he kind of cuts his route
sometimes because he predetermines where the open spot's going, to
be which can. Be good but at the, same time
your quarterback's got to, know too you know what's. Going on,
so anyway we're talking about some real minution now and
when you're looking at, a tape and so he's not
going to be an overwhelming guy to beat, the press
but to find an open spot and to be able
(11:07):
to maneuver. In space he's a. Good player he's a red.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Zone.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Threat yeah and here's the other point that he's not going,
to be which is important because of his pedigree in,
his background he's grew up. WITH it a lot of
rookies amy come into this league with big wide eyes
because all of, a sudden the environment, is like what.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
The, Hell, yeah yeah he's very familiar and comfortable in,
this way very comfortable in.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
This environment Powder dry Yep gunner Helm from texas sixty
five two forty one nine and seven, eighth hands thirty three,
inch arms seventy eight wingspan four Eight four in the
forty he can run a one six nine ten thirty
inch vertical kind of average seven one five three cone
remember what we talked, about earlier three cones seven. Or
under that's pretty. Much, there yeah he's got above. Average
(11:53):
size he's got good. Movement skills forty five targets in twenty,
twenty four. Zero drops he's a good hands he, can
track he can, high point he understands how to. Manipulate
coverage he's a fluid he's a. Smooth athlete he can
sink his hips, on breaks which. Is important if you
have to grind the coffee, making breaks turning, the corners it's.
Not good he can sink. His hips he's very smooth.
(12:15):
Doing that, he's versatile he's got some quicks. To it
he didn't have. Elite speed that's gonna be one of
the things that you're gonna. Look at and then he
wasn't really productive until his fourth year. In college so
he has been, an ascending as we call an. Ascending
player here's the other Thing. About, gunner hell he popped
his ankle at the combine with a false start in
THE forty, i mean and it's swelled up like a.
(12:37):
Helium balloon but he continued to work out on it the. Whole,
time wow this guy's got a lot of grit. To
him he's, a physical. Physical Player so gunner Held.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
From texas, poor guy that's not a good day to hurt.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Your, ankle no but you're showing. Your, coaches hey he's
still he gonna do.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
The work he got a Lot of he got a
lot of crops for finishing.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
It, out, yeah yeah well. That's good definitely a name

(13:39):
Let's do does that sound sound like a? Fun. Thing
rhett i'm excited to hear about some of the names on,
your list because you've got some solid.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Talent.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
There, yeah well let's Start With arizona Wildcat Receiver teta
Roha McMillan teta. ROAN McMillan i think ran into four
fives at his. Pro day size and catch radius is
what you're talking about with this six four in eighth two,
nineteen hands ten inches wing almost, seventy eight but a
great catch radius and big. Big hands he was a
(14:09):
standout volleyball player in, high school so hand eye coordination
and combat. STYLE catcher i think for his size he
could stand to put on a little bit of weight
because his frame was a. Little slight but he is
certainly a name you will. Hear called On that, Thursday
night april. Twenty fourth to begin the, FIRST round i
(14:30):
moved to a guy who you people know a whole
lot better because they won the, national championship And That's
emika Agbuca From. Ohio state you talk about a really
nice receiver who runs the you know what out of
a route tree just under six one two, two hands
nine and, five eights thirty one and a half, inch
(14:50):
arms seventy six and five eighths inch winging finished twenty
twenty four with eleven hundred and fifty receiving yards and.
Twelve touchdowns, good hands route runner and just a lineage
of good receivers out of. That program he's the next
one out. OF it i really. Like It, Mika booka
let's Move To. Jaden higgins this young man Is From,
(15:12):
iowa state grew Up, In. Louisville Kentucky jaden higgins big.
Guy GUY so i Have At senior bowl six four,
eighth two, fourteen hands nine out and eights thirty three
and an, eighth arm eighty Inch Wingspan jaden higgins four
four seven and the forty one five three in the.
First ten and again that's at six' four and change
and at two hundred, and fourteen pounds thirty nine inch
(15:35):
vertical leap ten. To eight broad so the Explosion factors
that max, always talking. About They're There but jaden higgins
eleven hundred and eighty three yards and twenty Twenty Four,
for iowa, state nine, touchdowns physical size one of the
big receivers in this that can. Make some PLAYS and
then i Finish With a, Southeastern Conference player Trey Harris.
(15:57):
From Ole miss trey Harris, Is, from lafayette Louisiana Played,
at louisiana tech Transferred Went, to ole miss finished. His
career there his last Two Years under lane kiffin twenty,
twenty four year one thousand and, thirty receiving. Yards seven
touchdowns he Was One of jackson dart's go to Guys
In this trey harris six to two and three eights,
(16:18):
two five hands nine and, five eighths arm, nearly thirty
two wing almost seventy nine and then he tests well
at that size four five four and the forty one
five six in his first ten thirty eight and A
Half inch vertical league ten, five broad jump and all
he did was just catch the ball and score a
lot of the times. When he did he's One Of
two southeastern conference wide receivers in the History Of the
(16:41):
southeastern conference to average one hundred yards per game receiving.
The Last, One Jabar.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Gaffney, Florida, gator wow mac can you explain to us
why explosion would be such a valuable thing for a
wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
To have quickness it has to happen quick and, explosion
means everything especially when you're with timing with routes. You
don't have you don't have a lot of time as
a receiver to ooze. Into your route you really don't.
Because a quarterback the quarterback has got a clock. In
his head the same clock has got to be. In
your head and the, ability to explode the ability to.
(17:18):
Stop and start the other thing you want about explosion
is the better explosion that you have amy the more
you threatn, the defensive back because all, of a sudden
if you explode off the, line of scrimmage you're gonna.
Back them up and then, if you can if you
can shut it down and explode out of a break
instantaneously as to where the, ball is delivered you got a.
(17:39):
Chance for separation you're always looking for separation if You've
got a if you're A receiver and i'm, a DEFENSIVE
coach which i was for most, of my life and
you watch tape and somebody's oozing, into the routes that's not. A,
big threat yeah so you need. To, be explosive.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Okay that's good. INFORMATION right, there i mean look at
us learning things HERE. On the tv. Do not oose
there's no. Time, for that yeah we doing so whatever
you need to do to get. That Figured, out travis hunter?
Speaker 3 (18:11):
How about him we talked about him. As a cornerback
he can you put? Him, in both yes this guy's,
an athlete here he. Is an athlete we've already talked
about his size, six foot eight probably played a little
lighter than that, during you know played one hundred and four,
snaps a game. Which is incredible the thing is incredible
about all of that is that at the end, of
(18:31):
ball games if they needed him to, make a playoffensively
after having, played ninety snaps he was there to. MAKE the,
play i mean he's conditioning has got. To be incredible but.
He is blessed he's he's a he's. A gumby athlete
he's extremely fluid. As a receiver he's got a he's
got elite spatial awareness when he's. In the air, in
(18:51):
the air he's like he's. Like a, cat you know
you can drop a cat off a roof and he'll
find a way to hit. On his feet that's the way.
This guy is he's got a space shall awareness as
to where he can adjust, to the ball and then he's.
Got instant acceleration there were a lot of times where
they would line him up offensively and he would just
run away from any time they tried to single him up.
With A corner travis hunter, is an. EXCEPTIONAL exceptional athlete
(19:14):
i put him. IN both categories i think wherever he's
drafted that sooner or later in his career he.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Will play both is there a world where he is
drafted as a receiver, To, a team yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Really for sure i'm sure there's some some teams that
have him as that's.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
On theirs have him as a receiver corner, wherever he
goes and he's gonna they're gonna have him major in
one and. Minor in another wild he.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
Is an athlete continue on in The.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Garden from mizoo another of your nil players that you donate.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
To your very well for.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Three years, too so anyway six foot two hundred and
six pounds seventy six inch wing span a four to
four to one. In the forty his decline in production
this year had more to do with usage quarterback play
than regression On. HIS part, PHYSICALLY i mean i really
believe that he's built like. A running back he's. A,
(20:14):
stout dude, now he's. Explosive he's sudden he's a, very
fluid athlete which is what you are looking. FOR down
there i think he's a combination, of contact balance which
means he can, take a hit stay, on, his. Feet
start stop he's got, a great transitionability and he's got
good instincts with the ball. In his hands he is
a weapon when he has a ball. In his hands
(20:36):
when you watch his tape from, the previous years, very
very consistently he makes the. First man miss he LED
all the fbs wide receivers in twenty twenty four with.
Thirty missed tackles he forced. Thirty miss tackles the guy's
dangerous with the ball. In his hands he can. Snap
off routes we talk about explosion his. Production this year
(20:57):
you didn't get your money's worth. When you nil it
kind of cut in half from. Twenty twenty three and
in usage to me and. The quarterback play he's got,
a second gear but a lot of times guys have second.
Then third gears he didn't didn't. Show, that much again.
These are technicalities now you can talk. About his footwork
you can talk about tightening, up his stem which his
stem is, how he, breaks you know out. Of a
(21:18):
route about little over eighty percent of his his his
routes were out of the. Slot this year if you're,
in the slot you're not facing a lot of press man.
Because they can't they can't because you're. Off the ball
they can't be off sides. To, Press you okay so
that's something that that he'll have. To WORK on but i,
Like This receiver Matthew goland from texas, five to eleven,
(21:38):
one ninety one seventy five inch wingspan four two nine
In the forty it's about all you need to know.
TO begin, with i mean this is a this is.
A track, guy he's fast his. Footwork is decent he's light.
ON his feet i Mean he's not he's not a
he's not a heavy. Runner at all he sets, his
routes up he can. Drop his hips he sets defenders
up a. LOT of times i mean he. OKI doks
(21:58):
them i mean he puts, them to, sleep you know
and then he's got an immediate burst. FOUR two nine i, mean.
That's fast fast his spatial awareness. Is really good his
production in, twenty twenty four, you know what it really
jumped out once they. Got, the playoffs yeah he plays,
big and big he's a little he's a. Little bit
undersized some of his other athletic traits are, not just
elite but that speed makes up for a. Lot, of
(22:21):
things now his catch radius because of his size is,
not really high but his speed and separation is on.
An Elite Level so Matthew, goldan from texas. Remember That
Name Jalen royle's utah state six foot two oh five
nine and a, half inch hands, forty yard dash four
four to two or one four nine. Ten yard split
(22:42):
remember we said anything under one, five is elite, one four,
nine fluid, hips great. Footwork sharp cuts if he's EVER
got a dB playing that side saddle technique that you
see a, lot in college which means you've got your
rear end turned towards a sideline looking. Into the ball
if he ever catches somebody in that he, drops him
immediately he. Can crush him, Got good footwork you got
(23:03):
a lot of change of. Pace to him he's a he's.
A good target he's got, a good focus he's got.
Good ball tracking, his size, measurables you know are are
kind of in the in. The mid range his strength at,
the catch point that's something that he'll have. To work
on his, speed is good he's in that four four.
To two range he needs to improve on his consistency
in his precision, with his footwork and so all that
(23:24):
can be learned, in this league but down in The
Draft somewhere jalen royals is it would be a Nice Addition.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
From utah state let me ask you a question, about
productivity dips because there are a couple people in both
position groups tight end in receivers where year over year
they will have a productivity dip for one reason or
another where there their numbers just don't match up from
one year. To the next do teams have to do
a deep dive into why?
Speaker 3 (23:52):
That, may, be no no you know why that that
is a result that is a result. Of transfer portal
interesting and with, the transfer portal the first position that
was affected by, the transfer portal the first position group
that switched teams are the quarterbacks because there's only one
that plays and they want to. All play now so
(24:16):
once your, quarterback starts changing that. Makes a difference that makes.
A huge difference and also with, the transfer portal you're
supporting cast changes year to. Year, to year now as,
A talent EVALUATOR i mean i have, to do it
everybody else has. To do it then you've got to
go back and you've got to pick up previous tape of,
where they were who they, were playing with what they,
(24:38):
were surrounded by with receivers and tight ends that. We
talk about if we're going to talk about production, through
the air then you see how their. Quarterback has changed
and you also need to see what type of, system
they're in because they may change systems too when the transfer,
portal takes place if, it makes sense. So it does it.
Makes a difference it makes a difference evaluating all, of
(25:00):
these players but it especially started affecting the, quarterback position
first and as a result of, the quarterback position everybody
else that they deliver.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
The, ball to yeah that actually makes a. Lot of,
sense and somehow as we've been going through, all of
this the transfer portal never really registered in my mind
as a factor for a lot of different aspects of
why a guy's numbers would be the, way they are
the reason the team would be playing the. Way they are,

the time. That's Very, interesting.

a tight end in receptions and receiving yards at the.
(26:14):
Tight end position and this Is despite, Having Malik Neighbors,
